5. Mood Board
I chose the natural colour schemes
of greens and oranges and blues
and browns to represent the
woodlands and forest setting of my
product. I looked at folklore and
fantasy book covers to inspire my
product as big foot and everything
surrounding him is an ancient story
told through folklore.
6. Mood Board Analysis
Is there any repetition in the images you have collected?
Repeated colours/images styles/fonts/tone/mood
• A lot of green, blues, oranges and browns showed up on my mood board because of the
recurring woodland imagery. This is because I need a lot of wildlife inspiration to create a
book about adventure and finding bigfoot. I chose images of wild creatures and young people
searching and bigfoot to represent the plot of my product. The mood of these images
represent a very old and fantasy type of setting, with nature inspired aspects and lots of
folklore.
How will your mood board influence your final product?
• My mood board will help me see how a book cover and a book poster conventionally looks to
give me a reliable idea on how to design mine.
• It will inspire me to create something adventure themed because of the pictures of wood life
and the outdoors.
• It will help me understand what colours and images I should use in order to convey the write
message of nature and mystery and wildlife in my prodcut.
7. Informal Proposal
Current Idea
Concept Promotion of a coming of age, adventure/mystery book about two teenage twins on a search for big foot. I will
design a front cover and promotional designs like posters and advertisements for the book launch.
Type of
products you
would make
• Adver-gif – I chose this this concept because it is interesting and more social media based interactive form of
promotion that is unique and otherwise unheard of.
• Poster – A poster to show in book stores or train stations, it will catch peoples attention when passing public
places and make them think of the book.
• Book cover – The book cover will attract peoples attention to the product and let them recognize some of
the aspects of the book.
What you will
need to make
them
• Adobe Photoshop – I will use this to make all of my products, so will need to be in college and have access to
a computer to make them.
• Careful planning – I will need to plan out my ideas carefully and take into consideration time management
and attention to details.
• Access to internet – I will need access to the internet so I can gather fonts for my products and also images
that I can modify to fit into my products.
Audience (New Adult, Young adult) Teenager, 15 to 25 – I picked this age range because teenagers will be mature enough to
understand the content inside my product as it is a coming of age story about two kids who discover mysteries about
themselves as well as the town. Anyone older than this age range may not relate the the characters and their ambitions.
NRS social grade: BC1C2D – These social grades will relate to the characters in the books because they are not very rich and
live a mediocre life style. Also, people in this demographic will be able to afford the book.
8. Choices
Discounted ideas Reasons for not choosing this
project
videogame/Live action story board • The target audience would have been 9+ which is
quite young and would of been hard to do qualitative
and quantitative research into.
• I’m not sure I have the skills necessary to make an
extended video game
• I may not have had the time to do a video game and
two other projects.
Movie poster/cover • This Idea was much like the once I ended up
choosing, so it was really a choice of which I found
more interesting. Because I have already made a
movie poster in the past, I thought it may have been
more intriguing to focus on book promotion.
