3. Mind Map
Strengths of using this method
• Starts to make me think of initial ideas.
• Quick way of thinking of ideas
• Enables you to visualise what you think the project could look like
Weaknesses of using this method
• Having lots of ideas is good however you do not focus on 1 or 2 main ideas
straightaway.
• If you go into detail about a lot of your ideas it could start to get messy and you can
take up too much space.
Did you like using this method? Why?
• I liked using the mind map method because it is something that I have never
really done before and it was a good exercise to get me thinking to get me
thinking about good possibilities for the project.
5. Mood Board
• Strengths of using this method
• You are able to get a more clear picture of what you want your advert to look like.
• You get a good idea of the colour pallet for our project.
• Take inspiration from other peoples adverts but also look at the trend of advertising the
brand; social, seasonal.
• Weaknesses of using this method
• You might end up having too many pictures and struggle to decide what you want to do,
makes you confused.
• It could potentially lead you on to change your ideas in a negative way by tempting you
to copy / plagiarise.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• I liked using this method because it allowed me to get a clear idea what I want
my advert to look like and seeing other peoples advertisements gave me some
inspiration for my own. This helped me reflect on possible design ideas.
6. Style Sheet
Official Coke text as
main font
A image of people laughing and
drinking coke as the main
picture to set a fun vibe when
you look at the advert
Different shades of red
for the background
colour
A bunch of
different coke
quotes around
the advert with
some of my own
7. Style Sheet
• Strengths of using this method
– It helps you remember what you are wanting to put on your advert and you can
keep checking it if you forget.
– I formulated a colour pallet originating from the mood board.
– Style sheets help you plan out your project more efficiently and allows the designer
to focus in on the main idea.
• Weaknesses of using this method
– You might keep changing your mind and it will consume a unfair amount of your
time that could be used to make this project into what you wanted it to be.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• I do like using this method because it helps me remember what I have planned
for my idea. It helps me focus in on the project and I can keep looking back to
see what I have missed out and what else I could include to make it better.
8. Layout Plan
Large coke bottle
At the side of the
advert
With a quote
attached to it
A picture of two
friends laughing
together.
Red themed poster
to fit with the coke
logos
Coke logo blended
in the background
9. Layout Plan
• Strengths of using this method
• Gives me the visual idea of what the advert will look like when finalised.
• This enables me to create a scrap copy of my design to see what works and what doesn’t.
• This enables me to make mistakes that can be rectified which means that it can be changed
for the better.
• Gives me time to think about the layering order of what I want to create.
• Weaknesses of using this method
• Limited space for images and text
• Time consuming.
• Frustrating because we don’t get to do the practise in Photoshop.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• I liked using this method because now I don’t need to start from scratch and it gives me a
plan to work with. However I really wanted to rush ahead and use Photoshop.
10. Brainstorm
• Every time at the end of an advert there is always someone drinking the coke bottle
and zooming in close at them
• Coke is always a cheerful advert. The actors in the advert are usually laughing with
friends or dancing.
• At the end of the advert the logo always appears with the slogan “your own
happiness” and “taste the feeling” slogans are good for brands because if they use
them often they represent the brand they are advertising.
• Some adverts focus on a couple as the main characters
• Most of the adverts are usually Christmas themed. Mostly Winter time and Santa
usually appears at the end of the advert
• The music played in most adverts for coke is usually quite classical but if the advert
is more energetic then they might use pop or house music
11. Brainstorm
• Strengths of using this method
• You are able to make notes of what you see in the adverts and what they include
• Can think of ideas in groups and write down all your different ideas together.
• May find different ideas from different opinions and makes me become more open
minded.
• Weaknesses of using this method
• You can only use a limit of your ideas and might think of too many when you are all
talking in a group.
• You might be influenced to create something that you don’t really want to make and
could potentially knock out most of the originality of your own authentic ideas.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• No I didn’t like brainstorm because I like coming up with my own ideas and
keeping it original rather than taking ideas from other peoples work. However
I appreciate that in the professional world I will be expected to attend
brainstorm meetings and it is something I must work upon.
12. Informal Pitch
PEER Pitch = Harry
• Strengths of using this method
• It gave me an opportunity to speak with another class member and share our own
different ideas on what we should do with our project and merge them together.
• We went on forward to plan our project by writing them all down on mind map so we
knew what we are going to say to Chantelle when we would discuss the main potential
idea for our project.
• Weaknesses of using this method
• Although we got a fair few of good ideas it was easy to get side-tracked and talk about
other things instead of focusing on our idea. this was because we felt we didn’t need to
be as professional with each other as much as being with a member of staff. This is
something that we both need to improve.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• I did like this method because it allowed me and Harry to build a friendship and a good
working ethic. I think we both struggled talking to each other at the start because this
was the first time we had met.
14. Group Idea Generation
• Strengths of using this method
– This method is good because it helps you to think of ideas quicker than when
you are working on your own. This is also good for sharing ideas and seeing
which are better.
• Weaknesses of using this method
– The weaknesses of this method is it could be time consuming if you
are having trouble with coming up with ideas or cant decide which one
to use.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• Yes I did like this method because it was much easier than working on my
own
15. Formal Pitch
Client = Chantelle
• Strengths of using this method
– You get to talk to clients directly.
– You can vocalise and support your mood style boards.
– You can build relationships with your clients and discuss any areas of
concern.
– Avoid costly mistakes through misunderstanding clients.
• Weaknesses of using this method
Some ideas might not be vocalised effectively by clients or myself.
The client could agree to your idea or send you back to the start which
would be frustrating.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• I do on occasion suffer from social anxiety and worry about speaking in a
group or up in front of everybody. This is something that I need to work on if I
am to consider a professional career in media.
16. Initial Reaction
• My idea is to draw and animate a coke
branded Mario pixel character. I feel confident
drawing Mario in squares because I enjoy
using Photoshop and it does not seem to be
that difficult for me.
• The only difficulty that I face and struggle with
when drawing in Photoshop is the time, we
have a tight deadline to hit.
17. Initial Reaction
• Strengths of using this method
– This method feels like a reflective process.
– It lets me look back to see what skills I need to improve.
• Weaknesses of using this method
– If you had a rough time creating the project then you will
have to write about all the things you struggled with and
what went wrong.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• I like this method because it allows me to reflect back
on what skills I have improved or need to improve.
18. Sketches
This I need to fill out in college because my computer doesn’t have
Photoshop and my sketch is saved as a Photoshop file.
19. Sketches
• Strengths of using this method
– The strengths of sketches are that you get to develop your
skills in the drawing medium and if this method is
interesting for you then you will enjoy learning new skills.
• Weaknesses of using this method
– If you already know how to draw and feel you do not need
to learn any new specific skills then this method might not
be for you. You also might not enjoy creating sketches and
you might think it is quite time consuming.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• I did not really enjoy using this method because I am
not interested in drawing as much as other sources in
the creative media department.
20. Formal Proposal
• Strengths of using this method
– The strengths of formal proposal is that we can
write down all the things we are using it for and
explaining how it is going to be used.
• Weaknesses of using this method
– The weaknesses of using this method are it takes
quite a while to fill it all in and you might not
know what to do if it is your first time doing a
formal proposal.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
