3. Research
When researching this products I found that there were many different aspects of the project that I
needed to think about in order for my final project to be completed at the highest level of my ability.
The strengths of researching my product were that it gave me loads of ideas and how to adapt my work
in order to make my work look professional. For example I looked at an image edited and un edited with
a tutorial on how to naturally edit images, This helped me understand the different tools on Photoshop
and gain confidence creating and editing my work. Another strength is that researching helped figure
out that I wanted to use a mixture of landscape and portrait photography in my portfolio.
The weaknesses when researching for my product were that I wanted to capture similar images to
photos that I found. This had a very negative effect on my work because I found it challenging to think
of unique ideas for my online gallery. Another weakness is that It was very times consuming and found
it very difficult to multitask, especially with the time framed aloud in the unit.
I think that if I had more time researching for my final product I could have learnt even more about
Photoshop and would have been able to produce very professional edits in order to and more depth
and make the detail of the images stand out more. This would have had a very positive effect on my
product because it would have made my FMP look professional and les rushed.
4. Planning
When researching for my final product I wanted to think of as many different ideas as possible in
order to maximise my options for my final product.
The strengths of planning for my final product were that it helped think of many different ideas
on what to take shots of and how. Planning helped me learn how to use the different settings on
the camera and change the exposure levels, this helped when editing my images because there
was less to edit.
The weaknesses of planning for my final product were that I didn’t have very long to plan, this
was because this product has a very tight schedule that needs to be kept on top of at all times.
Another weakness is that it was very hard to find information about the photos, for example
When looking for particular edits on an image it would very rare that it would tell you anything
except the locations and the photographer of the image.
If I had more time planning my product I would have created more detailed mind maps and
mood boards. I think that my work would have benefited if I had more detail in my mind maps
and mood boards because it would have helped me have more direction on what I wanted to do
how I wanted to produce my work.
5. Time Management
When keeping on schedule I found it very challenging to make my work detailed and look
professional because of the short amount of time I had to complete this project. In order to help
me keep on schedule I made my self a schedule. The schedule was set out for eight days and had
had little notes space on what I needed to do on each day and what equipment I needed in order
to do each task. This helped me stay on task at all times making my final product look
professional and thought out. The schedule I made clearly helped me a lot because I managed
to complete the product with time to spare, which meant that I had extra time to add more detail
to my work. If I had additional time to create my product I would have taken more images for my
online portfolio and edited more images so that I had an even amount of edited and un edited
images in my portfolio. I would have also played about with the tool on Photoshop to try and
merge images together to create a mixed image, this would have helped show more emotion
and a stronger vibe to the image.
6. Technical Qualities
When editing this image I used several
different tool in order for me to create quite
a dark feel to the image. The first image I
used was the brightness and contrast tool in
order to bring down the brightness levels of
the image. The second tool I used was the
levels tool in order for the lighting on the
image to be levelled correctly so that the
image wouldn’t have to much exposure to
the tools already used. I decided that I
wanted to edit this image in a dark way
because some of the daisies in the image
looked like they were dying. The bottom
image shows an already existing image. This
image shows daisies also but with a happy
and light vibe to it. The tools that might
have been used would be the exposure tool
in order to deepen the colours and help add
contrast between the daisies and the grass.
7. Aesthetic Qualities
I think that my work
does look good. I think
that my work looks
because of the tools I
used when editing the
image on Photoshop.
When looking at this
particular image I’m
visually attracted to
the deep red colour on
the leaves and because
of the almost dark vibe
it gives off. I think that
the image gives a slight
dark vibe because the
deep red colour
resembles blood. The
second image I’m also
fond of because of the
close up focus on the
bark of the tree and
also the angle of the
shot.
If I were to improve
theses images I would
do different things with
both of them. With the
first image I would
widen the image so That
I would get all the leaves
in focus in full shot, I
would do this so that
the image would look
more professional and
complete. With the
second image I would
change the angle so that
I would be able to see
more of the pink
blossom on the
branched on the tree. I
still overall think that
these images were very
successful and think that
my audience would be
attracted to them.
8. Audience Appeal
I think that this image appeals to my audience
because the main colour in the image is green and
from the questionnaire the results came back with
feedback that said they wanted to see lots of green
and other vibrant colours within my online portfolio. I
also think that my audience would appeal to this
image because of the focus and orientation of the
image. As you can see the image is focused on the
bush at the side of the landscape image and I think
that this particular shot appeals to the audience,
especially with the grave stone blurred in the back
ground. I feel as though image is telling the audience
to focus on the beauty of life and let the bad
memories go. I think this image appeals to my audience because because
of the effects I put on the image. I deiced to put a black &
white filter on the image because I wanted to to show the
silhouette of the the and by using the filter it created the
illusion that it was just the silhouette and not the tree it self.
When asking my audience about what 5 things come into
mind when thinking of nature mostly everyone replied with
one of their five as trees. From this feedback it gave me
motivation to take a photo of trees with different focus
levels and different orientation.
10. Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
– I like the way that you have presented your work on a
website.
– The images you have edited look professional.
– I think the layout of the website also looks professional.
• What improvements could have been made to the
product?
– I think you could have used a larger amount of images.
– You could have used some filters on the images you edited.
11. Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
– I like the overall feel of the photos taken. some the photos have an almost
creepy sinister vibe to them
– Most of the photos taken are angled in an off centred way, witch makes
the photos more appealing because they are interesting to look at
– I like that the unedited versions of the photos are quite colourful and you
have edited them in a way to improve upon this
• What improvements could have been made to the
product?
From looking at your online portfolio one the images in particular of tree is a
little out of focus . If you had used the automatic mode on the camera it
would have been easier to get the right focus level.
12. Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– The online portfolio looks very professional
– The edit/changes that have been made are very different and unique
– Interesting angles
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– Could be more photos
13. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
I agree with some of the feed back. I agree with the comment about needing
more images because I could only have a select few on my online portfolio
because of the photo limit.
I also agree that the images I have edited do look quite professional and they
bring the level of work up to a new level.
• What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
I disagree with the comment about using more filters on my edited image. I
disagree with this comment because if I put too many filter on the images
they would look natural at that’s the point of my photography portfolio.
14. Peer Feedback Summary
If i were to change anything in my product based on the feedback I was given I would
change some of the tools I used when editing my photos. I would change some of the
tools used because I look back at them now and realise that if I changed the levels for
example on certain photos it would have changed the whole feel of the image would have
more appealing to the eye. On my first feedback sheet they went into detail about how if
I used more/different filters in my wok it would have looked better. Even though my first
thought about this comment was negative, I now understand that using different filters
would helps more and raise the level of my work.
If I were t change anything about my product I would also use a different online portfolio
site. I would change the website I used because I could only update so many photos to the
site. From the feedback I was give there were multiply comment about “not having
enough images” and I think using a different website would have sorted out this dilemma.
