Production Process Evaluation
Research
When researching for my product I decided to find similar magazine covers
that I wanted to design. I did this because I wanted to see how successful
magazines designed their products. I researched three different genre
magazine covers in order to see how they designed the cover page and also
to see how they make each different cover diverse for the genre.
Strengths
I think that this research helped my product because it helped me think of
creative ways to layout my cover and double page spreads. Another way the
research helped me was that I figured out what genre I wanted to target for
my magazine and the colour schemes I wanted to use.
Weaknesses
I think that I needed more time researching because I felt as though I was
being rushed the entire project and think that I could have done a more
detailed analyse when researching and annotating the covers I decided to
use.
Planning
When planning for my product I created two mind maps using bubble.us.com.
This site aloud me to create mind map with detailed information without getting
confusing for me and other people to read to read. When planning for my
product I created a mood board to see different styles of magazines and what
would be the best layout design for my product
Strengths
I think planning my product helped quicken the process of my final product this is
because when making the final product I could look back on the planning stages
of this project and adapt information in order to create my final project.
Weaknesses
I think planning my product boxed the potential of my final product. This is
because after planning my final I wanted to change my idea but I couldn’t,
because it would have meant editing all my work on planning and the research
segments of this product. I didn’t have the time to change my work in order for
my product to be completed within the time aloud for this unit.
Time Management
I don’t think that I managed my time very well. This because in order to
complete my product on time I had to do extra work at home and in my free
periods during college. I found this particular project very challenging
because I’m not very confident using the software given to make my final
product.
If I had more time on my product I think that I would have added more detail
to my front cover and my double page spreads so that it would look more
professional and not rushed. I would have used more colours and try to make
sure that my different double spread sheets tied in together so it looked like
they look like they came from the same magazine.
Target Audience Appeal
I think that my final product appeals to my target audience because I have used
bands and artists that appeal and inspire to both male and female teens and
young adults. I think that teens and young adults are the primary audience for
music magazines. I think this because toddlers wouldn’t be interested in a music
magazine and old people typically don’t like the same music as teenagers or
young adults.
I decided to feature Leeds & Reading festival in one of my double page spreads.
This is because the festival is targeted at young adults and thought it would help
make my magazine look more professional if I had a real event that my prime
audience would be interested in.
I think that my final product appeals to my target audience because I made the
headline about the death of David Bowie that sadly passed recently. Teens and
young adults that like this styled magazine will most likey be very interested and
saddened by his sudden passing and will want to read the full article about his
death.
Technical Qualities
I think that my work looks similar to
existing products because it is clearly
organised and has a set theme like all
successful magazine brands. If you look
closely between the two articles you can
that they both have columns filled with
lots of information as well as different
styled photos about the subject in hand.
The differences between these two articles
are the backgrounds, as you can I used
opacity to fade a photo to create a
background, whilst making the spread look
more professional. The professional article
at the bottom has used a plain what
background with a yellow stripe going
throw diagonally, this makes the article
look unique and would attract more
people to read the article.
Aesthetic Qualities
I think that overall my product looks professional. This I because like many successful
Magazines I used a simple black, white and red themed cover. I decided to to this
Because it looks very professional and works well with my music themed magazine.
I think that the magazine title
looks very good, this is
because I used a unique font
and also because I used a
bright red colour against the
black and white background.
I think that I could improve
The quantity of work, this is
Because I could have added
More detail in order to make
The cover more professional.
The strengths of the cover page
Are that it has a clear layout and
You can read it easily. The
Weaknesses are that there isn't
Enough detail so it makes the
Cover look like an amateurs
Work. The background photo
Could have been a little more
In focus.
Aesthetic Qualities
The photos underneath the line up for Leeds/Reading Really help bring the page to life
and makes it look very Professional. If I could done something to improve this Page I
would have added more information on the page.
The strengths of this
Page are that the
Colours used are very
Bright and eye catching
To the audience. I also
Think that by having the
Small photo in the right
Hand corner makes the
Article look complete
And detailed.
The weaknesses
Are that I made
Lots of grammar
Mistakes, which
Effects the opinions
On how professional
my work looks. I also
Think that by having
All my photos on
slants make my work
look childish and
might change my
audience reviews.
I think that this particular
Section in my double paged
Looks good because I have
The pearl jam stick figure.
This makes the double
Paged spread look good
Because pearl jam fan will
Know what it represent
And want to read the rest of
the magazine
I created a red
Box around the
Tour dates to
Make them
Stand out more
And to also try to
Make the more
Intrigued by the
Tour dates.
Aesthetic Qualities
I think that this double paged spread is the most successful. This is because I
have used more effects and tools to create the page. I think that the opacity
background helped make the article look more creative. I used so the opacity
so that I could have a photo of bowie in the background but not make the
article look cramped and amateur like.
The strengths of
this article are how
the information is
all neatly placed,
this made the
article look very
professional. I did
this by placing
guide lines over my
work to make them
All in place.
Another strength in
my article is that
the colour scheme I
used works very
well with the rest
of my work.
The weaknesses of my Double paged spread are That I
don’t have set On both sides, I personally Like how it
looks, it gives My article more diversity which entices the
audience Into reading the article.
I think that the article
would look better if I
chose different fonts, this
is because having all my
font the same has made
the article look boring. If
I could re do this I would
change the font on the
title so it stands out
more.
Audience Appeal
I think that my cover photo will appeal to my audience because I
have advertised the biggest summer festival in Britain. Leeds/Reading
festival influence many of my target audience, not just by the music,
but also by the way they dress. I decided to use David Bowie as the
primary subject because of his resent passing. Bowie was adored be
the world, millions of fans were left devastated by his sudden death. I
also included tour dates and details for the libertines' upcoming tour
and pearl jam’s upcoming tour in America.
I think that the first page of my magazine appeals to my
target audience. This is because on the first half of the
page I have a big poster of the latest Leeds/Reading
festival line up with several photos of big names
preforming at the festival. This will appeal to my audience
because this festival is mainly targeted at teen and young
adults of both genders, which fits my target audience
criteria perfectly. The half of my article is a small article
on how to win a pair of tickets for the event. I think this
would appeal to my audience because most of my
audience would be very interested in winning a free pair
of ticket.
Audience Appeal
I think that my last double page spread will appeal
target audience David Bowie inspired millions of
people around the globe including my audience. The
influence that Bowie brought to the music industry is
amazing and should be recognised by all. This also
appeals to my audience because I have also used
several photos of bowie dotted around the spread in
order to bring the article to life. This appeals today
because they would be interested in the photos of
bowie.
I think that this double page spread appeals to my
audience. This is because I have featured The
Libertines and Pearl jam. These two bands are both
very successful and also having announced tours
both in America and Britain.
This will appeal to my audience because they
would want to see both these bands live. I sold this
magazine on the basis that I had the exclusive
gossip and dates for both the libertines and pearl
jam. Many people that follow one of or both bands
will want to buy the product because of its new
and exclusive information.
Peer

• Use a different font for the cover, to more match the title
Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
– Clear image, easy to understand and read
– Good layout
– Unique layout and overall design
– Looks professional just like a real magazine
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
A different font could have been used at the bottom to fit in with the main title.
Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– I like the overall theme of the product
– The images are clear and draws attention to the product
– I like the layout of the dps because it looks professional
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
• There could be more columns of text because it would look more professional
Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer
feedback?
I agree that I needed to use more columns in order to make my double
spreads look more organised and detailed
I also agree that I could use more fonts in order to add more diversity to my
magazine.
I agree with the comment about having a set theme throughout my cover
and double page spreads.
What do you disagree with from your peer
feedback?
I disagree with the comments about having all my photos being clear. This is
because one photo in particular is very blurry and makes the magazine looks
fake and de grades it.
Peer Feedback Summary
Based on my peer feedback I think that I would make sure that my work was in sett in
columns in order to make the article look professional. I would also change my last
double page spread colour scheme. This is so that it contrasts with the cover and
other double page spreads. My final double page spread colour scheme what mostly
red and white with some photos giving the spread an edge to it, the problem was that
it doesn’t work well with the other spreads I created. The feedback that I received
suggested that on the cover page that at the bottom of the page I used the same font
as the title In order for the cover to look for professional. I agree with this information
because the font I chose for the bottom of the page looks out of place.

7. evaluation

  • 3. Research When researching for my product I decided to find similar magazine covers that I wanted to design. I did this because I wanted to see how successful magazines designed their products. I researched three different genre magazine covers in order to see how they designed the cover page and also to see how they make each different cover diverse for the genre. Strengths I think that this research helped my product because it helped me think of creative ways to layout my cover and double page spreads. Another way the research helped me was that I figured out what genre I wanted to target for my magazine and the colour schemes I wanted to use. Weaknesses I think that I needed more time researching because I felt as though I was being rushed the entire project and think that I could have done a more detailed analyse when researching and annotating the covers I decided to use.
  • 4. Planning When planning for my product I created two mind maps using bubble.us.com. This site aloud me to create mind map with detailed information without getting confusing for me and other people to read to read. When planning for my product I created a mood board to see different styles of magazines and what would be the best layout design for my product Strengths I think planning my product helped quicken the process of my final product this is because when making the final product I could look back on the planning stages of this project and adapt information in order to create my final project. Weaknesses I think planning my product boxed the potential of my final product. This is because after planning my final I wanted to change my idea but I couldn’t, because it would have meant editing all my work on planning and the research segments of this product. I didn’t have the time to change my work in order for my product to be completed within the time aloud for this unit.
  • 5. Time Management I don’t think that I managed my time very well. This because in order to complete my product on time I had to do extra work at home and in my free periods during college. I found this particular project very challenging because I’m not very confident using the software given to make my final product. If I had more time on my product I think that I would have added more detail to my front cover and my double page spreads so that it would look more professional and not rushed. I would have used more colours and try to make sure that my different double spread sheets tied in together so it looked like they look like they came from the same magazine.
  • 6. Target Audience Appeal I think that my final product appeals to my target audience because I have used bands and artists that appeal and inspire to both male and female teens and young adults. I think that teens and young adults are the primary audience for music magazines. I think this because toddlers wouldn’t be interested in a music magazine and old people typically don’t like the same music as teenagers or young adults. I decided to feature Leeds & Reading festival in one of my double page spreads. This is because the festival is targeted at young adults and thought it would help make my magazine look more professional if I had a real event that my prime audience would be interested in. I think that my final product appeals to my target audience because I made the headline about the death of David Bowie that sadly passed recently. Teens and young adults that like this styled magazine will most likey be very interested and saddened by his sudden passing and will want to read the full article about his death.
  • 7. Technical Qualities I think that my work looks similar to existing products because it is clearly organised and has a set theme like all successful magazine brands. If you look closely between the two articles you can that they both have columns filled with lots of information as well as different styled photos about the subject in hand. The differences between these two articles are the backgrounds, as you can I used opacity to fade a photo to create a background, whilst making the spread look more professional. The professional article at the bottom has used a plain what background with a yellow stripe going throw diagonally, this makes the article look unique and would attract more people to read the article.
  • 8. Aesthetic Qualities I think that overall my product looks professional. This I because like many successful Magazines I used a simple black, white and red themed cover. I decided to to this Because it looks very professional and works well with my music themed magazine. I think that the magazine title looks very good, this is because I used a unique font and also because I used a bright red colour against the black and white background. I think that I could improve The quantity of work, this is Because I could have added More detail in order to make The cover more professional. The strengths of the cover page Are that it has a clear layout and You can read it easily. The Weaknesses are that there isn't Enough detail so it makes the Cover look like an amateurs Work. The background photo Could have been a little more In focus.
  • 9. Aesthetic Qualities The photos underneath the line up for Leeds/Reading Really help bring the page to life and makes it look very Professional. If I could done something to improve this Page I would have added more information on the page. The strengths of this Page are that the Colours used are very Bright and eye catching To the audience. I also Think that by having the Small photo in the right Hand corner makes the Article look complete And detailed. The weaknesses Are that I made Lots of grammar Mistakes, which Effects the opinions On how professional my work looks. I also Think that by having All my photos on slants make my work look childish and might change my audience reviews. I think that this particular Section in my double paged Looks good because I have The pearl jam stick figure. This makes the double Paged spread look good Because pearl jam fan will Know what it represent And want to read the rest of the magazine I created a red Box around the Tour dates to Make them Stand out more And to also try to Make the more Intrigued by the Tour dates.
  • 10. Aesthetic Qualities I think that this double paged spread is the most successful. This is because I have used more effects and tools to create the page. I think that the opacity background helped make the article look more creative. I used so the opacity so that I could have a photo of bowie in the background but not make the article look cramped and amateur like. The strengths of this article are how the information is all neatly placed, this made the article look very professional. I did this by placing guide lines over my work to make them All in place. Another strength in my article is that the colour scheme I used works very well with the rest of my work. The weaknesses of my Double paged spread are That I don’t have set On both sides, I personally Like how it looks, it gives My article more diversity which entices the audience Into reading the article. I think that the article would look better if I chose different fonts, this is because having all my font the same has made the article look boring. If I could re do this I would change the font on the title so it stands out more.
  • 11. Audience Appeal I think that my cover photo will appeal to my audience because I have advertised the biggest summer festival in Britain. Leeds/Reading festival influence many of my target audience, not just by the music, but also by the way they dress. I decided to use David Bowie as the primary subject because of his resent passing. Bowie was adored be the world, millions of fans were left devastated by his sudden death. I also included tour dates and details for the libertines' upcoming tour and pearl jam’s upcoming tour in America. I think that the first page of my magazine appeals to my target audience. This is because on the first half of the page I have a big poster of the latest Leeds/Reading festival line up with several photos of big names preforming at the festival. This will appeal to my audience because this festival is mainly targeted at teen and young adults of both genders, which fits my target audience criteria perfectly. The half of my article is a small article on how to win a pair of tickets for the event. I think this would appeal to my audience because most of my audience would be very interested in winning a free pair of ticket.
  • 12. Audience Appeal I think that my last double page spread will appeal target audience David Bowie inspired millions of people around the globe including my audience. The influence that Bowie brought to the music industry is amazing and should be recognised by all. This also appeals to my audience because I have also used several photos of bowie dotted around the spread in order to bring the article to life. This appeals today because they would be interested in the photos of bowie. I think that this double page spread appeals to my audience. This is because I have featured The Libertines and Pearl jam. These two bands are both very successful and also having announced tours both in America and Britain. This will appeal to my audience because they would want to see both these bands live. I sold this magazine on the basis that I had the exclusive gossip and dates for both the libertines and pearl jam. Many people that follow one of or both bands will want to buy the product because of its new and exclusive information.
  • 14. Feedback 1 • What did you like about the product? – Good quality image – Follows a theme – Fits conventions of magazines – Unique title and layout – Good layouts on double page spreads – All follow a theme • What improvements could have been made to the product? • Use a different font for the cover, to more match the title
  • 15. Feedback 2 • What did you like about the product? – Clear image, easy to understand and read – Good layout – Unique layout and overall design – Looks professional just like a real magazine • What improvements could have been made to the product? A different font could have been used at the bottom to fit in with the main title.
  • 16. Feedback 3 • What did you like about the product? – I like the overall theme of the product – The images are clear and draws attention to the product – I like the layout of the dps because it looks professional • What improvements could have been made to the product? • There could be more columns of text because it would look more professional
  • 17. Peer Feedback Summary • What do you agree with from your peer feedback? I agree that I needed to use more columns in order to make my double spreads look more organised and detailed I also agree that I could use more fonts in order to add more diversity to my magazine. I agree with the comment about having a set theme throughout my cover and double page spreads. What do you disagree with from your peer feedback? I disagree with the comments about having all my photos being clear. This is because one photo in particular is very blurry and makes the magazine looks fake and de grades it.
  • 18. Peer Feedback Summary Based on my peer feedback I think that I would make sure that my work was in sett in columns in order to make the article look professional. I would also change my last double page spread colour scheme. This is so that it contrasts with the cover and other double page spreads. My final double page spread colour scheme what mostly red and white with some photos giving the spread an edge to it, the problem was that it doesn’t work well with the other spreads I created. The feedback that I received suggested that on the cover page that at the bottom of the page I used the same font as the title In order for the cover to look for professional. I agree with this information because the font I chose for the bottom of the page looks out of place.
