Adele Rolf conducted experiments editing two photos to practice skills for a final product. In the first photo, levels and contrast tools were used to deepen grass and blossom colors and make the image brighter. The second photo aimed to show tree bark detail; contrast and levels tools brightened the image and made pink blossoms stand out against the bark. Reflection notes confidence grew from learning new Photoshop tools and techniques like subtle color overlays. Elements from the experiments, such as using levels tools to subtly alter photos' feels, will be incorporated into the final product.
2. Process
• I decided to use this image to experiment
on because the image is basic and easy to
edit. As you can see on the left hand side I
have an edited and un edited photo. The
top photo isn’t edited and the bottom
photo is edited and as you can see there is
a big difference between the images. The
top photo was taken outside in the sun
with some blossom mixed with the grass
that had fallen from the tree. When
editing the photo I used a levels tool in
order to deepen the colour of the grass
and the fallen blossom, I have also used a
contrasting tool in order for the different
colours in the images so that the images
became more bright and eye catching to
the eye. I decided to take the photo at this
angle because I think that it shows the
detail on the grass and I think that my
audience would be attracted to this
photograph because of the bright colours
and the contrast between the colours.
3. Process
• I decided to use this image in my experiments
because I wanted to use a similar photo to
what I wish to produce in my final product.
When taking this photo I wanted to show the
detail in the bark on the tree in order for my
audience to see the close up beauty of a tree.
The top lest is the natural image and the
bottom lest is the edited image. When editing
this image wanted to brighten the image and
try to make the pink blossom stand in the
background in order to show a contrast
between the bark and the blossom
background. In order me to succeed at this I
need to use the contrast tool so that I could
change the levels. I also had to change the
vibrant levels in order to let the subtle green
on the bark seep in and create more
contrasting colours in the image. I think that
this image will appeal to my audience
because of the angle of the shot and how the
camera is focused on the bark on the tree.
4. Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you
include in your final product?
These experiments have helped fell more confident when starting my final product
because I have learned how to use new tools using the Photoshop software provided
by college. When editing the second image I used a subtle colour over lay of pink to
try and make the pink blossom in the background stand out to drag more attention to
the audience. I want to edit future images in a similar way because I feel that this
method was really affective and easy to achieve. When editing my experiment photos
I used a control levels tool which enabled me to slightly change the feel of the entire
photo. I wanted the photo to feel happy and full of life and changing he levels really
helped. The elements of my experiments will be incorporated into my work by using
similar tools, this will help me when editing my final because I feel a lot more
confident in my work.
