Organizational Justice Impact Employee Job Commitment,...
Organizational justice is a concept that represents how fair employees feel they are being treated by
their employer. This encompasses distributive justice, perceptions around outcomes such as pay and
promotions, and procedural justice, how these outcomes are determined. Why is this important? An
organization s culture is defined by it. Organizational justice impacts employee job commitment,
satisfaction, and performance. Employees perceptions of fairness will impact how successful a
company is in their market. (Patrick, 2012) (Kreitner Kinicki, 2013)
The concept of organizational justice was birthed out of equity theory. Pioneered by the psychologist
John Stacey Adams, the theory holds that motivation is a function of fairness in ... Show more content

As it sounds, pay transparency reflects on organizations decision to be open about the salary of each
employee/position. In his Ted Talk, David Burkus (2016) challenges the traditional practice of secrecy
around salaries. For Burkus (2016), pay transparency is the biggest way to combat inequity and pay
discrimination. Being open and transparent about how we compensate our team breeds trust amongst
all people involved, says Leo Widrich, CMO at Buffer (Baer, 2014). Buffer is a tech company focused
on products and services to help organizations maximize their social media campaigns. Buffer
publicly disclosed their salary formula and every employee is aware of what everyone makes, all the
way up to the CEO. They consider the move to pay transparency as an ethical imperative and
competitive advantage, highlighting their growth, profit, and company culture as proof. (Widrich,
2013)
Is pay transparency the answer to problems of inequity in the workplace? The results at Buffer seem to
point in that direction. However, larger organizations such as Google don t seem to embrace the idea
of pay transparency. An informal initiative internally publishing salaries, led by a Google engineer,
was less than welcomed resulting in the denial of the engineer s bonuses. (Weinberger, 2015)
Professor of Strategy and Strategic Leadership, Todd Zenger (2016) encourages organizations to count
the cost. According to Zenger, organizations should consider if pay

Acoustic Spaces And Ambient Noise Levels
Introduction
A range of observations were conducted to assess acoustic spaces in terms of their characteristics and
ambient noise levels. Using a Digitech QM 1589 (see figure one) three studies were measured in order
to successfully account for characteristic behaviours and differentiate between ambient noise levels.
These studies where assessed under A and C weightings and in fast and slow settings. A weighting
follows the frequency sensitivity of the human ear at low
Figure One: Digitech QM 1589 (http://www.jaycar.com.au/) 2016 levels while C weighting is the
frequency sensitivity of the human ear at very high noise levels (Hear Forever, 2013). Measurement
One is the sound pressure level of 8 acoustic environments that where examined to establish the
quietest space possible, maintaining a reliable and consistent source of results. Measurement Two
follows the assessment of Clarendon Street, a busy road; involving the observations of cars, trucks and
trams that share the road. Measurement Three is the analysis between A and C weighted testing of
pink noise from a single speaker repeated at 1 and 4 metres validating the application of the Inverse
Square Law.

In this measurement and observation 8 possibly quiet acoustic spaces where assessed to find the
quietest space possible; among assessed are JMC Academy s facilities including the library, classroom

George Orwell Politics And The English Language
Language is the network of communication in thought, spoken words, and written verse. It is
structural and formed through the development and adaptions of human beings. As art itself, language
takes the configuration of the world and conveys itself in a diverse manner. Although, some persons
argue that language shall be strictly followed and contain no modifications for that ruins the sole
purpose of language being our system of disclosure. George Orwell, in his text Politics and the
English Language , delivers a message of traditional English being taken further from its roots and
changed into something harsh and inadequate. On the other hand, there s the more lenient and open
author, James Baldwin, who in his text, If Black English isn t a Language, Then Tell me, What is? ,
delivers a cry of despair for the language that has grown as its own from his culture and background.
Thus, both Orwell and Baldwin have similar and different outlooks on the perception of language and
how it should be presented in thought and literature. To begin with their differences, Orwell expounds
on the faults of English language when written constructively. In his text, Politics and the English
Language , he pleads with his concerns about modern writers and their writing structure through a
haughty and conservative perspective. To this author, language and writing is incorrigible. For
instance, in the text he states, In certain kinds of writing, particularly in art criticism and

Abuse In 1984 And Red Army
In both 1984 and Red Army documentary there is a clear theme followed throughout. Abuse from a
higher power can occur at anytime both mental and physical. Abuse can cause great deals of pain on a
person persuading them to do opposite of the initial intentions. Physical abuse plays a huge roll in
1984 and Red Army documentary. Its back to the 1980 s where the novel takes place. Everyone is
forced to be the exact same as one another. The same clothing is worn, the same things are said, and
everything must be thought about exactly the same. If a brave should decide to disobey any of these
they will be tortured like poor Winston was. Winston was sent to the Ministry of Love to be made
sane. The party wanted him to believe 2+2=5 even though

Garfield Persuasive Speech
Hello everyone I am currently reading a book about a black and orange cat named Garfield. No I m
pretty sure most of us are familiar with the little big guy. His kicking Odie of the table, sleeping all
day, eating everything in site. Any way lets get into what my favorite parts about it. Once and a while
Garfield will sneak up be hind Odie and kick him of of what ever object he stands on oh yeah by every
once and a while I mean a lot. Garfield usually will just sneak up behind Odie if he s doing anything
or not and basically kick him as hard as he possibly can. I say this he bullies Odie just a little bit too
match because let s say Garfield, John and Odie. are all eating lasagna and Garfield finishes his first
he will then eat Odie s or John s. However, Garfield usually eats his own food and does this only
every once and a while. So what happens when a pudgy little cat can reach locks and door nobs you
would think that they would let their self outside not Garfield. Garfield likes being inside instead of
out side but he likes locking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s like his second favorite thing besides eating. But with Garfield sleeping all the time, Odie will get
board and attempt to wake Garfield up by licking or whimpering. Since Garfield is such a deep sleeper
he doesn t notice anything. Every thing that Odie try s it won t wake Garfield up. Usually when John
gets home and makes lasagna that will wake Garfield up.If you haven t read or watched Garfield and
your wondering why he s so pudgy then I ll explain it to you. Every day Garfield s schedule is
sleep, eat, kick Odie off the table, sleep and eat. The items he eats are not always easy the healthiest. He
will eat anything from lasagna to cake or chicken. But his favorite dish is lasagna. I feel that s what he
eats for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. He will eat kibble but he doesn t enjoy it as much as he enjoys

Marketing At The University Of Florida
1. I am studying marketing here at the University of Florida because I am interested in the buying and
selling of goods/services. I find things like television ads, target customers, different brand logos, and
commercials very interesting. Jimmy Johns for example, has really funny ads on the television and
radio that market there product. Companies like Southwestern Advantage sell educational systems
door to door. I think that is a very interesting way to market their product. I know that I am not into
finance or accounting but at this point in time marketing is my best option. If I ever change my major
it would become Economics or Sociology.
2. Ideally five years from now I see myself completing an M.B.A. program. I will have multiple job
offers from fortune 500 companies however, I may decide to simply go into real estate. I am aware
that you do not need a college degree for real estate however, I want to keep my options open if that
does not work out. I need to discover what my true passion is. Ideally I will have already landed a job
with a great real estate company. I will have shadowed a successful individual in the field. I would be
personally fulfilled if I do what I love. In five years I should have no doubt in my mind about what I
do or do not love.
3. I would need practical experience shadowing first hand very successful real estate agents. I would
need an internship with a marketing company to find out if that is what I want to do for the rest of my
life. I think

Barbara Mcclintock Biography
Barbara McClintock was born on June 16, 1902, in Hartford, Connecticut (Tracy). When she was
born, the terms gene or genetics did not exist (Keller 1). Yet, by the time she was finished with her
work, advanced terms in genetics, such as transposable elements had come about. McClintock was
born to Thomas and Sara McClintock. Thomas came from a poor background but became a doctor. He
also had an interest in science, which may have been where Barbara s interest originated (The Editors
of Encyclopædia Britannica). In contrast, Sara McClintock came from a much wealthier, more
prestigious background; her ancestors could be traced to Pilgrims on the Mayflower (Tracy). After her
marriage, Sara, who became a mother of four, was a piano teacher to bring in more money for the
family. At the age of three, Barbara was sent to live with her aunt and uncle for three years (Tracy).
She enjoyed her time with the extended family and returned to Thomas and Sara after three years ...

A professor at the university had given her a special invitation to take a graduate level genetic course
(Keller 35). At this point, McClintock developed a new attitude towards science: I knew I just had to
go on (Keller 35). McClintock received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1923, and two years later,
she received a master s degree (The Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica). McClintock did not achieve
this degree the way she wanted to, however. McClintock s main interest was in genetics, but that
department (plant breeding) did not accept women (Keller 35). Instead, McClintock chose another
path, majoring in cytology, minoring in genetics and zoology, in the botany department (Keller 35).
McClintock went above and beyond what she had to do in order to graduate. She audited many
courses and took many additional courses, just for the sake of learning more (Keller

I was raised in a home that was Baptist, but we did not attend church every week. I did attend church
by myself from the third grade through the ninth grade. We lived in an upper middle class
neighborhood that was almost 100% white. My aunts and uncles, as well as my grandparents, lived
close by so we visited frequently.

I identify myself as white, non Hispanic. 3. Select an ethnic group you come the closest to identifying

attending a couple other funerals but I was really too young to understand what exactly was going on.
4. How do you feel about your ethnic identity? What are the strengths and weaknesses you perceive in
your ethnic group?
I am very lucky in that I grew up in a household that ethnicity was never discussed. I always believed
(as my parents did) that everyone was equal. I think this was definitely a strength in that I never
looked down on anyone. I can say the only weakness that my ethnic group would have is those that do
look down upon other ethnic groups. I did not witness this from anyone (that I remember) until I was

Improving Your Emotional Intelligence Can Be Jump
Improving your emotional intelligence can be jump started by following some simple steps.
Psychiatrist Dr. Norman Rosenthal (2012) suggests several steps that can enhance your emotional
intelligence, many of the tips he suggests are found among the foundational skills toward successful
collaboration discussed in the text by Friend and Cook (2013). Both Rosenthal and Friend and Cook
place not interrupt or changing the subject high among skills that will help you to become a better
listener. Listening with your whole body and being aware of physical sensations of stress will allow
you to process your thoughts with the power of reason (Rosenthal, 2012). Additionally, all of the
authors suggest avoiding prejudgments and making faulty assumptions. By not making assumptions
and judgments before all of the information about a topic or conflict has been given prevents a
thorough thought process from taking place. Rosenthal follows up this step with two additional steps
that require the listener to seek to make connections with their own thoughts. He states that listening
to your feelings is like listening to all of the witnesses in a court case. Only by admitting all of the
evidence will you be able to reach the best verdict (2012). I think this advice makes an excellent tie
into Friend and Cook s suggested listening skills namely, establishing listening goals, and focusing on
the content and context of the spoken message (p. 67 68). When a conflict arises it is important to be

Volkswagen Of Americ Managing It Priorities
Team 11
Volkswagen of AmericaManaging IT Priorities
1. What is your assessment of the new process for managing priorities at Volkswagen of America? Are
the criticisms justified? Is it an improvement over the old process?
We believe that the new process for managing priorities was well structured and aligned with the
business goals but with few exceptions. Let s try to understand why?
VWoA laid out their five next round of growth goals (NRG) and built a business architecture with the
help of different organizational entities to manage priorities of different projects in order to implement
these goals. The ELT was given the primary responsibility along with ITSC, PMO, BPTO and DBC
playing important roles while selecting and prioritizing projects. The Digital Business Council was to
play the most challenging role here as it would work with different Business Unit managers in order to
select and prioritize projects, keeping in mind a way to categorize projects, assess their business
impact, aligning project with business goals and making tradeoff decisions. The process played out in
three phases initiated by PMO. Thus, this process is well structured and would help DBC to consider
different trade offs while selecting and prioritizing projects.
The only exception is that we would recommend to include members of VWG while drafting the goal
portfolios of the company so that certain projects that impacted on the global level could also be
funded. If they had included them, then

Fate In Beowulf
Beowulf has been the most influential piece of Old English text. The incredible epic gives a window
into the lives and beliefs of the Anglo Saxons. Beowulf is a piece of immense academic praise,
however there is still speculation towards many of the major themes throughout the journey of the
hero. Peter F. Fisher presents his own thoughts on the fate of Beowulf. Fischer brings similar
perspectives to the ideas about Beowulf as an epic hero, and his fate, but he also incorporates his own
meaning about the hero s fate. Moreover, a main theme throughout Beowulf is the importance of the
trials towards the heroic character. The trials that Beowulf face are battling through demonic monsters,

The third and final trial takes places with the second part of the poem. This part of the poem follows
Beowulf fifty years in the future when he becomes king of the Danes. He now is characterized by
more wisdom than heroism, however, the final challenge awakens the aged hero to fight again. During
his final encounter with evil he faces a dragon which protects a giant hoard of treasure. Although the
battle with the dragon only lasts ten pages it is greatly significant to the context of fate. Similarly to
Beowulf s embodiment of good, the dragon has distinct elements that create a truly evil, greedy, and
dangerous character. The dragon could almost could be said to represent the fundamentally evil nature
of mankind by his greed, malice, and protection of the treasure. The dragon s extremely evil nature he
is truly a sufficient trial for the perfect hero to defeat. The destructiveness of the dragon requires
Beowulf to meet him in battle. Just as the dragon is the perfect villain for the hero to face, he also
serves as the perfect inflictor of Beowulf s fate. Beowulf is transformed by greed and thus his destiny
in becoming an epic hero are squandered. Prior to becoming king, Beowulf fought to protect the
Danes from evil. Now as king his motivation for defeating evil is to gain even more wealth in the form
of the dragons hoard. All the while, his fate to become an Epic Hero has changed. His battle with the

Organization Decision Making Process
An organization continually makes decisions at all levels. Until the past decade, most organizations
and their managers and employees operated in an information and knowledge fog, making decisions
based on best guesses about the past and present, and making expensive errors in the process. Many
have failed throughout the course trying to improve the decision making process, there are many ways
that contribute to the failure. Organizations can easily miss the market, by not having the right
intelligence, analysis, not acting on agreements, having inadequate capitalization or simply because
the competitors are doing better job. Another crucial failure during the process is poor execution,
when there is ineffective leadership, inefficient operations, and excessive costs. Not following the
right strategies is another contributor of failure, not having the right products and services, ineffective
marketing, utilizing outdated technologies and not adjusting to the frequent changes on the market in
today s competitive world. Nevertheless, several steps can guide us to making the right decision. The
first is to declare a decision, recognize that an organization ought to make a decision, second is to
decide what to make with that decision and finally execute the decision to create results and changes
in the outcome of those decisions. There are four stages in the decision making, intelligence, design,
choice and implementation. All of these steps consist of discovering,

What Is The Theme Of Division Convey In The Caged Bird
How is the Theme of Division Convey in the Poems Nothing s Changed and Caged Bird ? First Draft
Nothing s Changed is written by Tatamkhulu Afrika, and Caged bird is written by Maya Angelou.
Both poems express the reality of division and oppression. The themes of Oppression contrasted with
the theme of Freedom are present in both poems. Angelou, a freedom fighter, who has experienced
injustice against her based on her color, wrote Caged Bird a poem that utilises contrasting techniques
and an extended metaphor to show the importance the significance of herself as well as the rest of the
Black community. Nothing s Changed , is also a poem about racism, however now in South Africa.
The poem presents Afrika s views much more literally than Angelou does.

The Quality Of Wisdom In Herman Hesse s Sidddhartha
Wisdom is the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgement. Knowledge is facts,
information, and skills acquired by a person through experience or education. You may gain
knowledge through education but you can t be taught wisdom. Sometimes that s a hard learned lesson.
In Siddhartha, Herman Hesse uses the theme wisdom cannot be learned nor gained through teachings
but can only be achieved through experience. Which is very evident through seeing Siddhartha going
through his journey of life to reach full enlightenment/wisdom on his own.
Siddhartha early on in his rich Brahmin life realizes that the teachings he s learning from the Brahmins
is inadequate to reach enlightenment. Siddhartha is not content with having knowledge he knows that
there is more to learn and receive. The Brahmins are not fulfilling his mind. He had begun to sense
that his venerable father and his other teachers, that the wise Brahmins had already imparted to him
the bulk and the best of their knowledge...his mind was not contented (5). This shows that he realizes
there is more and he decides to leave to find that more . Siddhartha finds the Samanas and becomes
apart of them. He gains knowledge but questions their way to nirvana/enlightenment. During the
samana period he is discontent with what he has already learned thinking that he has been taught all
there is to learn from the Samanas. I am willing to listen to these teachings though in my heart I
believe that we ve already tasted the best fruit of these teachings (21). Siddhartha knows there is more
he can be taught and thinks he can not do that with the Samanas. Siddhartha believes the teachings of
wisdom and knowledge but is discontent with learning it and tries to find other paths to enlightenment.
After the Samanas, Siddhartha crosses the river to find someone that has reached the highest level of
wisdom and enlightenment. He is still discontent but acknowledges that he can reach that level if he
keeps searching. After listening to a teaching from the Buddha(who has reached enlightenment)
Siddhartha wants to ask him how he reached enlightenment. The Buddha says what Siddhartha has
been thinking the whole time. It came to you from your own seeking path,

A Questionnaire on the American Samoan Society
In what ways was the traditional leadership of Samoan villages different from typical American
leadership?
On the political level in the United States, most leaders are elected directly or appointed to office by
politicians, although they often come from very wealthy and privileged backgrounds and have their
political careers financed by various special interests. Of course, much of the real leadership in the
country is based on wealth and income, or control of large corporations, bureaucracies and financial
institutions. Samoa has a matai or chief system that traditionally controlled the social, political and
economic order. Those in the lower castes were expected to show respect and deference to their elders
and hereditary rulers, rather than the more modern (post French Revolution) concept of equal
citizenship for all. Chiefs controlled all exchanges and the distribution of wealth and land, which is
also quite different from the capitalistic individualism that lies at the core of modern American culture,
and naturally the U.S. colonizers attempted to undermine this traditional system.
How did the traditional system of chiefly power reinforce the close knit social system of village life?
This traditional society in Samoa and other Polynesian islands was based on the clan and the extended
family, each of which had elders, chiefs and patriarchs. It was a collectivist and hierarchical society,
not at all a democracy, in which the hereditary elites were the governing

Effects Of Economic Growth On Society
1. INTRODUCTION 1.1 BACKGROUND The harmful effects and environmental problems resulting
from impact of economic growth have increased concerns of environmentalists, shareholders,
governmental bodies and society about environmental issues. Pressures from a variety of sources have
come to bear on the companies to accept responsibility for impacts on society from business activities
(Hackston and Milne, 1996). Companies are being urged to become accountable to a wider audience
than shareholder and creditor groups (Hackston and Milne, 1996). Financial objectives are no longer
the only important variables to firms; in addition to the owners economic aims, the interests of
employees, customers and the public at large have increasingly been recognized over the years (Kolk,
1999). As indicated by Kolk (1999), the notion of stakeholders has emerged to complement the
concept of shareholders . Due to these developments, companies have been attempting to seriously
take into account their environmental and social impacts and to provide information about their
environmental performance (Unerman et al., 2014; Dixon et al., 2005; Monteiro Guzmán, 2010).
Many companies have developed environmental management systems and increasingly adopted
environmental reporting within the annual report (Deegan and Gordon, 1996; Gray et al., 1995a;
Guthrie and Parker, 1990). Dixon et al. (2005) argue that the main reasons for the development of
environmental disclosure are the increase of

Office Action, points to adjacent ribs (124) that extend from the pad body and define a contact surface.
However, Fox discloses an absorbing member (124) that includes a plurality of tabs (128). The tabs
(128) of absorbing member (124) disclosed by Fox are not the same as the support ribs (142) disclosed
in Applicants specification. Additionally, nowhere in Fox is it disclosed that the tabs (128) or the
absorbing member (124) define a frame contact surface. In this regard, Applicants respectfully assert
dependent Claim 2 is further allowable over Fox.
Amended independent Claim 10 is currently amended to include the limitation of an inner foam
surface being contoured to the seat back frame. Fox fails to disclose the above limitation. Instead, Fox
discloses foam blocks (A) in the corners of the seat back shell (B) between the seat back shell (B) and
the structural frame (C) (Col. 2, Lines 17 22; Fig. 25). Nowhere in Fox is it disclosed to have an inner
foam surface contoured to the seat back frame, as included in Applicants amended independent Claim
10. In this regard, Applicants respectfully assert amended independent Claim 10 is allowable over
Fox. Dependent Claims 11 15 depend from amended independent Claim 10, and for at least the reason
set forth above, are also allowable.

The Dark Side Of Zombies
Darkness devoured everything in sight. A sea of lifeless moans crashed into the walls that kept me
prisoner. I could feel the hot breath of those creatures seeping through the walls. Paranoia invaded my
brain like the disease that infested those monsters. They were constantly trying to get in. They knew I
was here, I was a meal trapped in a cage and every intake of breath was a ring of the dinner bell.
Suddenly the snaps of rotting wood punched my ear drum. The snarling monsters came tumbling
through the gaps, their twisting bodies shuffling towards me. As their outstretched limbs searched for
my flesh I was ripped away by the ring of a phone. The television had sucked me in once again.
Casting me in the middle of the fictitious apocalypse. The concept of zombies has always been a
welcomed thought to me but why? Why am I and other humans fascinated with the thought of this life
threatening concept? These creatures are known by many names. The undead, zombies, even the
popular tv show The Walking Dead refers to them as walkers. Within history we find that the term
zombie comes from Haitian folklore where corpse reanimation was achieved mostly through magic. In
recent times radiation, mental disease, scientific accidents, etc. attribute to this reanimation.
HISTORY
The idea of zombies can be traced all the way back to 8th century. Voodoo priests used black magic to
possess their victims or so they say. They actually applied a deadly poison from a porcupine fish

Analysis Of Alan Mccluskey s The Wasp Habitus
As Alan McCluskey, following Aldrich, argues, usually only white and wealthy and Anglo Saxon
Protestant males were permitted to enter positions of influence and contribute to American high
culture (9). But while WASPish principles would maintain some hold on New England for another
half century, as we saw with Prescott, prestigious institutions began to extend class privileges to those
like Coleman Silk who did not necessarily fit the WASP designation physically, but were sympathetic
to the WASP habitus. As McCluskey continues, Roth s philosophical orientation to the nature of
human identity holds that [identity] is an ineluctably synthetic process that is unstable, contingent, and
ultimately outside the parameters of rigid definition (8). We see as much when, about the time of
Prescott s retirement and death, a young Silk makes the decision to discard his black heritage and live
his life as a white man. While relatively light skinned, however, Silk knows from personal experience
in a Norfolk brothel ( You re a black nigger, ain t you, boy? ) that he will never pass for pure white,
and instead adopts a Jewish identity (114). In the slowly expanding definition of who belongs, Silk
decides to negate the race difference that would exclude him by adopting a religious identity that,
while still marginalised, had increasing access to the upper echelons of New England collegial culture.
As Zuckerman explains, he presents himself as a small nosed Jewish type with the

Why The Kiva System Has Become A Successful
There are many reasons why the Kiva system has become very successful in delivering results to the
companies who have made the investment of implementing it to their pick and packing stations. The
concern with these station is that they are considered cost centers in the supply chain of a company.
Labor is a huge part of the cost associated with these centers as well as the cost with expanding
automated retrieval and storage systems. By improving the efficiency in this part of the value chain
would mean huge savings for the company. Kiva systems are intended to improve efficiency, reduce
power consumption, and essentially eliminate some processes necessary under the old method of pick
and packing. Labor cost would be reduced by picking up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They would be more concerned in inventory space. Description of the Logistical Practice To better
understand how the Kiva System works, one needs to understand how the need for the Kiva System
was created. Warehouses play an important role in the supply chain from the manufacturer to the
consumer. They serve as giant pick and packing centers. The product comes in usually in large pallets
that are sold in bulk, but then they are broken down and either repackaged or organized to be stored at
the warehouse. These distribution centers are considered cost centers because the work done at the
facility add no inherent value to the product (Kamarthi). This means that all the cost is being placed on
the company and not the consumer because it adds no value to the product. This would mean that it is
really important for a company to keep the operational costs at a minimum by improving the accuracy
of the distribution center high. The process of filling and order in a distribution center requires a few
people, pickers, sorters, and packers. This means that a lot of money is tied up to labor. Another
method the DC s use to make the process faster is by using automation processes such as conveyors
and sorting equipment. These automation handling systems are very expensive and involve large
design cycles that take 12 to 24 month to bring online (article citation). Another drawback is that once
they are set, they are set in stone

Carson 2015 Student Number: 1302170 Words: 2113 Critically discuss the value of the concept of

Freud (1894) believes the ego uses defense mechanisms to protect itself from anxiety, which arises as
a byproduct of the conflict between the competing demands of the id and the superego. Building on
Freud s theory, Klein (1959) theorised that the infant experiences anxiety in its first few months of life

The analogy of an iceberg is often used to demonstrate that what lies below the surface of the water
(the unconscious) is greater than that which is visible above the water (the conscious). These anxiety
defense mechanisms are important in that they shape an individuals behaviour, which in turn will have
an effect on the individual within and organisation and in turn can affect the organisation as a whole,
not least as regards anxiety that arises when confronted by change. Using these psychoanalytic
theories, this paper will give a greater insight into the understanding of the functioning of
organisations, with an emphasis on anxiety and change and the ways in which individuals and groups
defend against this thus failing to achieve the group s primary task. This paper will use ideas that
began with Freud and further developed by Klein and then Bion particularly Bion and his study of
groups. *For the purpose of this essay, the terms group and organisations will be used intermittently. A

Informative Speech On American Football
American football is widely enjoyed by our country. It is one of the top sports we participate in and
watch as a nation. Here I will be telling you why it is so significant to us as a nation, how it impacts us
and also how it is important to us. The history of football dates back to nearly 1860 s. It actually
evolved from another sport. That sport being rugby. Rugby is a very physical game. That is where
football gets it toughness from. The first ever game of football played was in November 6 of 1869.
The football game was between Rutgers and Princeton. Each team consisted of 25 players. Though out
time since then, rules have been changed and altered. The sport being very physical, led to injuries
amongst early players. Very little padding was used. Our president, Theodore Roosevelt was soon to
abolish the game itself if changes were not made. Rules and regulations were then made and added to
the sport. This turned out to be better for the players. Less injuries occurred to them. ... Show more

Comparing Henry V And St. Joan Of Arc
Henry and Joan During the scenes of Henry V and St. Joan of Arc, it is noticed that there are certain
expectations that are expected of each Joan and Henry. Each of these individuals are expected of
different things based on their genders. Joan shows that being just a girl doesn t have to determine
what you do and Henry makes it known that if you do certain things that you believe in, that you are
still a man and shouldn t listen to what other have to say and to prove them wrong. This is where both
people have similarities and differences when it comes to their gender roles. For King Henry V, he is
doubted sometimes that he is not a true man and that since he is a king he should act like one. Henry
shows and tells that when he is having a conversation with his men about being a good king and man.
He said Though it s not my place to say so, I think the king is, after all, only a man, the same as me.
The violet smells to him the same as it does to me. The sky appears to him much as it does to me, and
all his senses are those of a mortal man. Without his fine clothes, the king appears just like any other

Bp Oil Spill Letter
The purpose for my letter is to express my concerns of the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill that
occurred April 20, 2010. The BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill is the most recent oil spill and in all
probability the biggest catastrophic spill in the petroleum industry. The BP oil spill did not just affect
the company, it affected so much more; it had such a huge impact on the birds, whales, and the costal
habitats. Six years ago the Macondo oil well in the Gulf of Mexico blew out, causing an explosion. Oil
leaked from the broken well from mid April to mid July, nearly three months, causing more than 200
million gallons of crude oil to swim out onto the gulf shoreline. In addition to the oil, almost 2 million
gallons of virulent dispersant was used. The chemical dispersant did not lessen the amount of oil, but
broke it into smaller particles, leaving the Gulf of Mexico as a dead zone. My concerns are the
animals that are continuing to be harmed by the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The Deepwater
Horizon oil spill was a deadly accident that caused a lot of harm; it destroyed Gulf fishing and tourism
industries. The spill injured 17 people and 11 people lost their lives. The marine ... Show more content

constantly inspecting correctly. Schedule regular audits. Technology has advanced so much that BP

Alcoholic Beverages an introduction
Alcoholic beverages have been around for thousands of years, some Stone Age beer jugs show that
fermented beverages were being produced as early as 10,000 B.C.[Hanson, David J. 1997]. In the past
beer was used as a substitute to drinking water, it was considered safer due to the unsanitary ways that
water was delivered, as the process boiled off any bacteria [Cahill, Mero M. There are many different
types of alcoholic beverages on the market, these are classified into the following groups beer, wine
and spirits (Alcoholic Beverages).
Beer According to [Motarjemi, Yasmine Moy, Gerald Todd, Ewen. 2014] beers are alcoholic
beverages brewed from germinated barley (malt), hops, yeast and water. It is also stated that beer can
be dated back to 9500BC, making it one of the worlds oldest prepared beverages.

The Grocery Store
Who would have thought that by opening up a single grocery store in the early 1900s, it would give
the ability for someone to open up over 60 more in less than ten years. In today s business market, it is
nearly impossible to open up 60 grocery stores in Toronto in less than 10 years. The reason being is
that the grocery retail industry is now becoming or has become an Oligopoly. When one is walking
through the streets of Canada looking at places to shop for groceries, one may stumble across several
options of grocery stores to choose from. Often people question whether to buy their groceries either
at No frills, Fortinos, Real supermarket or Loblaws. For many, the question is simply answered by
choosing the store nearest to the comfort of their home. Over time, customers become loyal to the
store for many different reasons, it often has to do with the experience offered at a certain chain and
loyalty programs. Many of these loyal customers will not buy from other supermarkets unless they are
away from home where their preferable store is not convenient. Not every Canadian customer is aware
that Loblaw Companies Limited, the single largest Canadian food retailer owns many of the different
supermarkets out there. This paper will prove that the Loblaw Companies Limited has is constantly

Summary Of The Book The Trail
They were on their morning walk through the endless trails and old dirt paths that twisted and turned
until you saw no end. The trails were covered with fresh snow stacked upon autumn s forgotten leaves
that were never bothered to be picked up. Walking into the woods, holding his gun with an old torn
red flannel tee on, Jason has doubts that this might be his last season. Charlie was already climbing
down the hillside, straying off the trails, and hoping of making the first kill to prove his worthiness to
his owner. Jason calls back to Charlie, Come mere ol boy, don t start without me! and they begin their
way quietly trudging through the dense woods to their special spot. They continue down the beaten
path until Jason and Charlie come to a clearing in the woods where the only drops of sun come down
through the dead leaves that have yet to fall. Here Jason pulls out a decaying tarp and sets up base
camp. From camp, you can see all the rolling hillsides slope down into one large snake like river
flowing through the mountains until it is lost in the distance. The Tennessee mountains are a
treacherous terrain filled with steep drop offs and deadly trails. One can easily become lost and lose all

What Is The Legacy Of John Marshall

American Government (Politics 113)
20 Nov 2014
The Legacy of John Marshall Few individuals have left as prominent a mark on the United States as
Chief Justice John Marshall. An ardent Federalist, he worked throughout most of his life to separate
the powers of national and state government, furthering the agenda of his party long after they
dissolved.
In Marbury v. Madison, he led the Court in striking down an act of Congress that was in conflict with
the Constitution, legitimizing the doctrine of judicial review. Over the course of his thirty four year
term, Marshall oversaw numerous landmark cases, his decisions in which played an undeniably
critical role in the early development of American law. Thanks to his firm hand and consistent
principles, he was able to secure the institutional power of the Supreme Court in the face of staunch
Jeffersonian opposition affirming its place as an equal among the Executive and Legislative branches
of government. The Supreme Court was established in 1789, with its powers stated in Article III of the
newly ratified United States Constitution. In the years leading up to the Marshall era, the Court was
little more than a shadow of its future self. It lacked both the prestige and authority of the latter 19th
century. John Jay and his successors, Rutledge and Ellsworth oversaw few cases, and ever fewer

The Icf Brief Core Set For Hl
The novel approach used in this investigation, the validity of the ICF Brief Core Set for HL has been
confirmed, supported the pilot studies results, and one category is being suggested to be added.
Thereby, a statistically validated version of the ICF Brief Core Set is proposed and could be used as
essential tool to capture factors leading to increase the likelihood of hearing disability and
socioemotional isolation among older adults with and without HL.
Overall, three methods (linking, self reported, and proposed model of standardized outcome measures)
validated most of the ICF categories; however, there was a slight difference as a result of purpose of
validation and research design as presented in Table 13. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the second pilot study we estimated the effect of global and specific cognitive functions in
restricting participation in daily life activities. The Self Reported ICF Brief Core Set Scale for HL in
its simple and initial version, obviously, reveals that memory and hearing dysfunctions and inability to
listen and communicate effectively were the major problems that limit and restrict participation in
social interactions followed by attention deficits, temperament and personality, emotional problems,
and sensation of tinnitus. These finding were verified and confirmed by the standardized outcome
measures. In regards to the environmental factors, it is interesting that the majority of the participants
rated background noise and loud sound as barriers, while majority rated family support, family
attitude, and social attitude as facilitators that have a relevant influence on functioning. For older
adults HA users, the majority rated HAs use as facilitators, however, few reported HAs use as barriers.
Further, the Self Reported ICF Brief Core Set Scale for HL factor analysis replicated the four factor
solution of older adult s functional performance that was found in the pilot studies linking
methodology and qualifier coding procedure (Alfakir, et al., 2015a). The overall

The Role Of Settler Colonization And Its Negative...
In April 1995 Pamela George, an Ojibway women, was brutally murdered in Saskatchewan. Her
murderers Steven Kummerfield and Alex Ternowetsky, young middle class white men, were convicted
of manslaughter and sentenced to merely six and a half years in prison. George s story is one of the
many Indigenous women who have been murdered or missing over the past years. There are over 580
cases of missing and murdered Indigenous women, close to half are put aside and left unsolved. Only
53% of these cases have lead to charges of homicide (Klement 8). Drastically, statistics indicate that
Aboriginals are faced with more hardships throughout their life compared to the average Canadian.
Indigenous groups, particularly women, suffer from a lower rate of education, higher suicide rates and
an array of health risks. This paper will examine the role settler colonization history has played in
perpetuating conditions for violence to indigenous women, many of which are still experienced today.
This will be accomplished by first assessing the history of settler colonization and its negative
repercussions. Secondly, it will use Sherene Razak s concept of spatial segregation, to illustrate how
state institutions have facilitated violence through space, race and the law. Lastly, this paper will use
evidence from the film Finding Dawn to further demonstrate how violence towards indigenous women
is institutionally produced.
In the 16th century, French colonists arrived to Newfoundland

My Catholic Church Experience Paper
On April 11th, 2017, I attended mass in the Blessed Edmund Chapel. Unlike other weekday masses,
this one was scheduled at 7 AM because of it being Holy Tuesday. Never having been to a Catholic
mass before, all of this was a new experience. Growing up in a non denominational Christian
household, I did not have a clue what to expect. From this experience, I was able to gain insight into
the Catholic practices and how they conduct their masses. It also helped to expand on the teachings we
discussed in religion class. When you first walked into the Blessed Edmund Rice Chapel, you see
chairs lined up in front of the altar and podium. Underneath a majority of the chairs, lay a bible to
follow along with the sermon of the mass. In front, in front of the altar, there were two candles that a
Brother lit during the mass. Even though the chapel being small might seem like a disadvantage, I
thought that this feature offered a more personal and close experience. Up on the altar, in between the
candles, there was a wooden figure of Jesus on the cross. It was in a way similar to churches I have
attended before, except there was no altar or podium, and was ... Show more content on

It was interesting to finally see the Catholic religion in practice rather than discussing it. I learned how
the worship differs from the fellowship church and at a Catholic Mass. This was my first time
experiencing music like this and also having a service conducted like this. It took a shorter period of
time than I was used to and involved less singing. Attending a Catholic mass definitely helped me to
better understand the practices of Catholics. It taught me more about scripture and also provided me
with an insight to a different religion s customs. From this experience I will take away a new
knowledge of the religion the college I attend represents. It also showed me what a Brother exactly
was and what their duties

The Indian and the White Communites in Dances with Wolves and Machimanito
The film Dances with Wolves shares a lot of its content with the story Machimanito. In Dances with
Wolves, two nations come to interact with each other. While the white man is dominating the land, the
Indians are trying to protect both their land and themselves. In Machimanito, the story describes the
epidemic and its effects on the Indians, while describing the ongoing conflict between Indians and the
white man. There is a huge cultural difference between the white man and the Indians, which is
reflected on their ways of life and communities; each lives a different life style including their
interaction with nature and themselves, their authority within this ... Show more content on

The Indians establish their roots in the land and start extracting their needs passively and in rational
amounts that are enough for their survival.
The setting of each of the two communities in Dances with Wolves reflects their personality. The
Indians live as whole and on a piece of land where all the tents are near each other. This stresses that
Indians live collectively rather than individually like the white man. The first time Dunbar rides to the
Indians with Stands with a Fist, the camera shows Dunbar as being on the top of the hill; the camera is
looking up on Dunbar. Then it moves upwards to give the viewer a panorama of the surroundings of
the community. This sight includes: trees, land, mountains and a river. These are the basic elements of
nature and the Indians live within these elements. This resembles the bond which the Indians have
with nature.
When the camera gives a view of the soldiers fort, it is noticeable that there is almost no trees
presents, and a logical reason is that the tree have been used to build the post. The buildings in the
post emphasize the separation of the white man, as they are built within a considerable distance
between each other. These walls separate people from each other; thus emphasizes and explains the
individuality of the white man. Also Dunbar builds a fence for his horse to stay in, while in the Indian
community all the horses are left to their will.

strategies that have made it become the pacesetter for other companies. As the industry becomes more
competitive, Macdonald s corporation needs to balance its business level strategies and corporate level
strategies. This paper analyses the business level and corporate strategies adopted by MacDonald s
corporations. An analysis for Macdonald s Competitive Environment will feature the Yum Brands in a
bid to compare the performance on Slow cycle and Fast cycle Markets.
Macdonald s Business level Strategies
Strict Franchising and Licensing Agreements
Macdonald s offers a strict, but mutually beneficial franchising and licensing agreements that have a
term of 20 years (McDonald s, 2014). Before an individual obtains a franchise or a licensing
opportunity, a careful scrutiny of the restaurant location must conform to expectation of future growth
of the business. The scrutiny ensures long term profitability of the restaurant. The process of setting up
a restaurant is very thorough. The franchising and licensing agreement allows the corporation to have
enough cash for further expansion. Expansion creates dominance and goes a long way to stamp

The Oversexualization And Objectification Of Women
The Oversexualization and Objectification of Women
On all platforms of media, women and even young girls are oversexualized; thus leading to men
viewing women as no more than breasts, vaginas, legs, or any other body part they prefer. Even in
current television shows, movies, comic books, and advertisements, women are still depicted as sexual
objects, which can damage a woman s confidence. The oversexualization of women s bodies can
degrade a young woman s confidence, and when girls try to boost confidence by dressing or acting
like the women they see in the media, they are reprimanded for it. Girls cannot be blamed for their
sexualization; they are just emulating what they see in the media. On television and in movies, women
are often portrayed as the love interest for the main male character or the succubus that tries to gain
the main character s love through temptation. Most the women depicted in the romances are white,
thin, and busty. Often the attractive female lead has a best friend who is deemed overweight and never
receives any romantic interactions. The only goal the female character has is to gain the attention of
the main character. In other movies and television shows when the female character is not considered
attractive, she must go through a complete makeover before her love interest even notices her. Once
the makeover is complete, the girl s love interest is completely stupefied with her beauty and instantly
falls in love with her. This plot device leads

The History Of Edsel s Huge Company
As right on time as 1906 Henry Ford had gained 58.5 percent of the organization s stock; and, when
alternate investors shied away from building the goliath (and costly) River Rouge plant in Dearborn,
he got them out; Edsel Ford (1893 1943) moved toward becoming president (1919). On Edsel s
passing in 1943, Henry Ford came back to the administration, yet in 1945 he turned it over to his
grandson, Henry Ford II, who revamped the organization s tangled arrangement of budgetary
administration and revitalized its corporate culture by employing capable more youthful
administrators. The fizzled presentation of the Edsel (display years 1958 60) happened in the midst of
these triumphs. Henry Ford II kept on managing the organization as CEO (1945

Data Protection and Customer Privacy
The media, trade bodies and academia has created a large buzz around the Data Protection and
customers privacy in the recent years. The consequences of the issue raised are different legislation
policies, self regulation, and general confusion. In order to be discussed, this controversial topic
should be looked at from two different perspectives: customers one and direct marketers one. From
customers point of view, direct marketing is undoubtedly an invasion of their privacy. Consumers feel
intimidated by the direct marketing campaigns that fire them with different types of unwanted printed
and online media daily. Further, many of them are being concerned about their personal information
being so easily available which makes them feel vulnerable. On the other side are direct marketers
who put a lot of effort in their attempts to engage the audience and build/maintain relationships with
them. Moreover, practitioners believe that they are targeting the best prospects and best customers
(rather than uninterested people) who are willing to buy the products offered and are happy to receive
up to date information about them. Thus, it has been assumed that marketers see themselves as
assistants who help people in choosing the best deals available whereas customers feel like victims
rather than catered for.
Customers concerns about their privacy could be simply splitted up into two parts: unwanted direct
marketing approaches and privacy issues. Junk mail , Spam emails,

  • 2. Organizational Justice Impact Employee Job Commitment,... Organizational justice is a concept that represents how fair employees feel they are being treated by their employer. This encompasses distributive justice, perceptions around outcomes such as pay and promotions, and procedural justice, how these outcomes are determined. Why is this important? An organization s culture is defined by it. Organizational justice impacts employee job commitment, satisfaction, and performance. Employees perceptions of fairness will impact how successful a company is in their market. (Patrick, 2012) (Kreitner Kinicki, 2013) The concept of organizational justice was birthed out of equity theory. Pioneered by the psychologist John Stacey Adams, the theory holds that motivation is a function of fairness in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As it sounds, pay transparency reflects on organizations decision to be open about the salary of each employee/position. In his Ted Talk, David Burkus (2016) challenges the traditional practice of secrecy around salaries. For Burkus (2016), pay transparency is the biggest way to combat inequity and pay discrimination. Being open and transparent about how we compensate our team breeds trust amongst all people involved, says Leo Widrich, CMO at Buffer (Baer, 2014). Buffer is a tech company focused on products and services to help organizations maximize their social media campaigns. Buffer publicly disclosed their salary formula and every employee is aware of what everyone makes, all the way up to the CEO. They consider the move to pay transparency as an ethical imperative and competitive advantage, highlighting their growth, profit, and company culture as proof. (Widrich, 2013) Is pay transparency the answer to problems of inequity in the workplace? The results at Buffer seem to point in that direction. However, larger organizations such as Google don t seem to embrace the idea of pay transparency. An informal initiative internally publishing salaries, led by a Google engineer, was less than welcomed resulting in the denial of the engineer s bonuses. (Weinberger, 2015) Professor of Strategy and Strategic Leadership, Todd Zenger (2016) encourages organizations to count the cost. According to Zenger, organizations should consider if pay ... • 4. George Orwell Politics And The English Language Language is the network of communication in thought, spoken words, and written verse. It is structural and formed through the development and adaptions of human beings. As art itself, language takes the configuration of the world and conveys itself in a diverse manner. Although, some persons argue that language shall be strictly followed and contain no modifications for that ruins the sole purpose of language being our system of disclosure. George Orwell, in his text Politics and the English Language , delivers a message of traditional English being taken further from its roots and changed into something harsh and inadequate. On the other hand, there s the more lenient and open author, James Baldwin, who in his text, If Black English isn t a Language, Then Tell me, What is? , delivers a cry of despair for the language that has grown as its own from his culture and background. Thus, both Orwell and Baldwin have similar and different outlooks on the perception of language and how it should be presented in thought and literature. To begin with their differences, Orwell expounds on the faults of English language when written constructively. In his text, Politics and the English Language , he pleads with his concerns about modern writers and their writing structure through a haughty and conservative perspective. To this author, language and writing is incorrigible. For instance, in the text he states, In certain kinds of writing, particularly in art criticism and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Yet, by the time she was finished with her work, advanced terms in genetics, such as transposable elements had come about. McClintock was born to Thomas and Sara McClintock. Thomas came from a poor background but became a doctor. He also had an interest in science, which may have been where Barbara s interest originated (The Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica). In contrast, Sara McClintock came from a much wealthier, more prestigious background; her ancestors could be traced to Pilgrims on the Mayflower (Tracy). After her marriage, Sara, who became a mother of four, was a piano teacher to bring in more money for the family. At the age of three, Barbara was sent to live with her aunt and uncle for three years (Tracy). She enjoyed her time with the extended family and returned to Thomas and Sara after three years ... • 12. Improving Your Emotional Intelligence Can Be Jump Improving your emotional intelligence can be jump started by following some simple steps. Psychiatrist Dr. Norman Rosenthal (2012) suggests several steps that can enhance your emotional intelligence, many of the tips he suggests are found among the foundational skills toward successful collaboration discussed in the text by Friend and Cook (2013). Both Rosenthal and Friend and Cook place not interrupt or changing the subject high among skills that will help you to become a better listener. Listening with your whole body and being aware of physical sensations of stress will allow you to process your thoughts with the power of reason (Rosenthal, 2012). Additionally, all of the authors suggest avoiding prejudgments and making faulty assumptions. By not making assumptions and judgments before all of the information about a topic or conflict has been given prevents a thorough thought process from taking place. Rosenthal follows up this step with two additional steps that require the listener to seek to make connections with their own thoughts. He states that listening to your feelings is like listening to all of the witnesses in a court case. Only by admitting all of the evidence will you be able to reach the best verdict (2012). I think this advice makes an excellent tie into Friend and Cook s suggested listening skills namely, establishing listening goals, and focusing on the content and context of the spoken message (p. 67 68). • 13. Volkswagen Of Americ Managing It Priorities Team 11 Volkswagen of AmericaManaging IT Priorities 1. What is your assessment of the new process for managing priorities at Volkswagen of America? Are the criticisms justified? Is it an improvement over the old process? We believe that the new process for managing priorities was well structured and aligned with the business goals but with few exceptions. Let s try to understand why? VWoA laid out their five next round of growth goals (NRG) and built a business architecture with the help of different organizational entities to manage priorities of different projects in order to implement these goals. The ELT was given the primary responsibility along with ITSC, PMO, BPTO and DBC playing important roles while selecting and prioritizing projects. The Digital Business Council was to play the most challenging role here as it would work with different Business Unit managers in order to select and prioritize projects, keeping in mind a way to categorize projects, assess their business impact, aligning project with business goals and making tradeoff decisions. The process played out in three phases initiated by PMO. Thus, this process is well structured and would help DBC to consider different trade offs while selecting and prioritizing projects. The only exception is that we would recommend to include members of VWG while drafting the goal portfolios of the company so that certain projects that impacted on the global level could also be funded. The third and final trial takes places with the second part of the poem. This part of the poem follows Beowulf fifty years in the future when he becomes king of the Danes. During his final encounter with evil he faces a dragon which protects a giant hoard of treasure. Although the battle with the dragon only lasts ten pages it is greatly significant to the context of fate. Similarly to Beowulf s embodiment of good, the dragon has distinct elements that create a truly evil, greedy, and dangerous character. The dragon could almost could be said to represent the fundamentally evil nature of mankind by his greed, malice, and protection of the treasure. The dragon s extremely evil nature he is truly a sufficient trial for the perfect hero to defeat. The destructiveness of the dragon requires Beowulf to meet him in battle. Just as the dragon is the perfect villain for the hero to face, he also serves as the perfect inflictor of Beowulf s fate. Many have failed throughout the course trying to improve the decision making process, there are many ways that contribute to the failure. Organizations can easily miss the market, by not having the right intelligence, analysis, not acting on agreements, having inadequate capitalization or simply because the competitors are doing better job. Another crucial failure during the process is poor execution, when there is ineffective leadership, inefficient operations, and excessive costs. Not following the right strategies is another contributor of failure, not having the right products and services, ineffective marketing, utilizing outdated technologies and not adjusting to the frequent changes on the market in today s competitive world. • 19. The Quality Of Wisdom In Herman Hesse s Sidddhartha Wisdom is the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgement. Knowledge is facts, information, and skills acquired by a person through experience or education. You may gain knowledge through education but you can t be taught wisdom. Sometimes that s a hard learned lesson. In Siddhartha, Herman Hesse uses the theme wisdom cannot be learned nor gained through teachings but can only be achieved through experience. Which is very evident through seeing Siddhartha going through his journey of life to reach full enlightenment/wisdom on his own. Siddhartha early on in his rich Brahmin life realizes that the teachings he s learning from the Brahmins is inadequate to reach enlightenment. Siddhartha is not content with having knowledge he knows that there is more to learn and receive. The Brahmins are not fulfilling his mind. He had begun to sense that his venerable father and his other teachers, that the wise Brahmins had already imparted to him the bulk and the best of their knowledge...his mind was not contented (5). This shows that he realizes there is more and he decides to leave to find that more . Siddhartha finds the Samanas and becomes apart of them. He gains knowledge but questions their way to nirvana/enlightenment. During the samana period he is discontent with what he has already learned thinking that he has been taught all there is to learn from the Samanas. I am willing to listen to these teachings though in my heart I believe that we ve already tasted the best fruit of these teachings (21). Siddhartha knows there is more he can be taught and thinks he can not do that with the Samanas. Siddhartha believes the teachings of wisdom and knowledge but is discontent with learning it and tries to find other paths to enlightenment. After the Samanas, Siddhartha crosses the river to find someone that has reached the highest level of wisdom and enlightenment. He is still discontent but acknowledges that he can reach that level if he keeps searching. • 20. A Questionnaire on the American Samoan Society In what ways was the traditional leadership of Samoan villages different from typical American leadership? On the political level in the United States, most leaders are elected directly or appointed to office by politicians, although they often come from very wealthy and privileged backgrounds and have their political careers financed by various special interests. Of course, much of the real leadership in the country is based on wealth and income, or control of large corporations, bureaucracies and financial institutions. Samoa has a matai or chief system that traditionally controlled the social, political and economic order. Those in the lower castes were expected to show respect and deference to their elders and hereditary rulers, rather than the more modern (post French Revolution) concept of equal citizenship for all. Chiefs controlled all exchanges and the distribution of wealth and land, which is also quite different from the capitalistic individualism that lies at the core of modern American culture, and naturally the U.S. colonizers attempted to undermine this traditional system. How did the traditional system of chiefly power reinforce the close knit social system of village life? This traditional society in Samoa and other Polynesian islands was based on the clan and the extended family, each of which had elders, chiefs and patriarchs. It was a collectivist and hierarchical society, not at all a democracy, in which the hereditary elites were the governing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

INTRODUCTION 1.1 BACKGROUND The harmful effects and environmental problems resulting from impact of economic growth have increased concerns of environmentalists, shareholders, governmental bodies and society about environmental issues. Pressures from a variety of sources have come to bear on the companies to accept responsibility for impacts on society from business activities (Hackston and Milne, 1996). Companies are being urged to become accountable to a wider audience than shareholder and creditor groups (Hackston and Milne, 1996). Financial objectives are no longer the only important variables to firms; in addition to the owners economic aims, the interests of employees, customers and the public at large have increasingly been recognized over the years (Kolk, 1999). As indicated by Kolk (1999), the notion of stakeholders has emerged to complement the concept of shareholders . Due to these developments, companies have been attempting to seriously take into account their environmental and social impacts and to provide information about their environmental performance (Unerman et al., 2014; Dixon et al., 2005; Monteiro Guzmán, 2010). Many companies have developed environmental management systems and increasingly adopted environmental reporting within the annual report (Deegan and Gordon, 1996; Gray et al., 1995a; Guthrie and Parker, 1990). Dixon et al. (2005) argue that the main reasons for the development of environmental disclosure are the increase of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I could feel the hot breath of those creatures seeping through the walls. Paranoia invaded my brain like the disease that infested those monsters. They were constantly trying to get in. They knew I was here, I was a meal trapped in a cage and every intake of breath was a ring of the dinner bell. Suddenly the snaps of rotting wood punched my ear drum. The snarling monsters came tumbling through the gaps, their twisting bodies shuffling towards me. As their outstretched limbs searched for my flesh I was ripped away by the ring of a phone. The television had sucked me in once again. Casting me in the middle of the fictitious apocalypse. The concept of zombies has always been a welcomed thought to me but why? Why am I and other humans fascinated with the thought of this life threatening concept? These creatures are known by many names. The undead, zombies, even the popular tv show The Walking Dead refers to them as walkers. Within history we find that the term zombie comes from Haitian folklore where corpse reanimation was achieved mostly through magic. In recent times radiation, mental disease, scientific accidents, etc. attribute to this reanimation. HISTORY The idea of zombies can be traced all the way back to 8th century. Analysis Of Alan Mccluskey s The Wasp Habitus As Alan McCluskey, following Aldrich, argues, usually only white and wealthy and Anglo Saxon Protestant males were permitted to enter positions of influence and contribute to American high culture (9). But while WASPish principles would maintain some hold on New England for another half century, as we saw with Prescott, prestigious institutions began to extend class privileges to those like Coleman Silk who did not necessarily fit the WASP designation physically, but were sympathetic to the WASP habitus. As McCluskey continues, Roth s philosophical orientation to the nature of human identity holds that [identity] is an ineluctably synthetic process that is unstable, contingent, and ultimately outside the parameters of rigid definition (8). We see as much when, about the time of Prescott s retirement and death, a young Silk makes the decision to discard his black heritage and live his life as a white man. While relatively light skinned, however, Silk knows from personal experience in a Norfolk brothel ( You re a black nigger, ain t you, boy? ) that he will never pass for pure white, and instead adopts a Jewish identity (114). In the slowly expanding definition of who belongs, Silk decides to negate the race difference that would exclude him by adopting a religious identity that, while still marginalised, had increasing access to the upper echelons of New England collegial culture. Why The Kiva System Has Become A Successful There are many reasons why the Kiva system has become very successful in delivering results to the companies who have made the investment of implementing it to their pick and packing stations. The concern with these station is that they are considered cost centers in the supply chain of a company. Labor is a huge part of the cost associated with these centers as well as the cost with expanding automated retrieval and storage systems. By improving the efficiency in this part of the value chain would mean huge savings for the company. Description of the Logistical Practice To better understand how the Kiva System works, one needs to understand how the need for the Kiva System was created. Warehouses play an important role in the supply chain from the manufacturer to the consumer. They serve as giant pick and packing centers. The product comes in usually in large pallets that are sold in bulk, but then they are broken down and either repackaged or organized to be stored at the warehouse. These distribution centers are considered cost centers because the work done at the facility add no inherent value to the product (Kamarthi). This means that all the cost is being placed on the company and not the consumer because it adds no value to the product. This would mean that it is really important for a company to keep the operational costs at a minimum by improving the accuracy of the distribution center high. The process of filling and order in a distribution center requires a few people, pickers, sorters, and packers. This means that a lot of money is tied up to labor. Another method the DC s use to make the process faster is by using automation processes such as conveyors and sorting equipment. These automation handling systems are very expensive and involve large design cycles that take 12 to 24 month to bring online (article citation). Introduction Freud (1894) believes the ego uses defense mechanisms to protect itself from anxiety, which arises as a byproduct of the conflict between the competing demands of the id and the superego. Building on Freud s theory, Klein (1959) theorised that the infant experiences anxiety in its first few months of life and deals with it by splitting and projective identification. The analogy of an iceberg is often used to demonstrate that what lies below the surface of the water (the unconscious) is greater than that which is visible above the water (the conscious). These anxiety defense mechanisms are important in that they shape an individuals behaviour, which in turn will have an effect on the individual within and organisation and in turn can affect the organisation as a whole, not least as regards anxiety that arises when confronted by change. Using these psychoanalytic theories, this paper will give a greater insight into the understanding of the functioning of organisations, with an emphasis on anxiety and change and the ways in which individuals and groups defend against this thus failing to achieve the group s primary task. This paper will use ideas that began with Freud and further developed by Klein and then Bion particularly Bion and his study of groups. *For the purpose of this essay, the terms group and organisations will be used intermittently. A Potted History Before the 1930s, the investigation of groups and organisations was not a generally recognised theory of study (De Board, R 1978). Here I will be telling you why it is so significant to us as a nation, how it impacts us and also how it is important to us. The history of football dates back to nearly 1860 s. It actually evolved from another sport. That sport being rugby. Rugby is a very physical game. That is where football gets it toughness from. The first ever game of football played was in November 6 of 1869. The football game was between Rutgers and Princeton. Each team consisted of 25 players. Though out time since then, rules have been changed and altered. The sport being very physical, led to injuries amongst early players. Very little padding was used. The BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill is the most recent oil spill and in all probability the biggest catastrophic spill in the petroleum industry. The BP oil spill did not just affect the company, it affected so much more; it had such a huge impact on the birds, whales, and the costal habitats. Six years ago the Macondo oil well in the Gulf of Mexico blew out, causing an explosion. Oil leaked from the broken well from mid April to mid July, nearly three months, causing more than 200 million gallons of crude oil to swim out onto the gulf shoreline. In addition to the oil, almost 2 million gallons of virulent dispersant was used. The chemical dispersant did not lessen the amount of oil, but broke it into smaller particles, leaving the Gulf of Mexico as a dead zone. My concerns are the animals that are continuing to be harmed by the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill. • 42. What Is The Legacy Of John Marshall Michael J. Scinto Professor Paul Rego American Government (Politics 113) 20 Nov 2014 The Legacy of John Marshall Few individuals have left as prominent a mark on the United States as Chief Justice John Marshall. An ardent Federalist, he worked throughout most of his life to separate the powers of national and state government, furthering the agenda of his party long after they dissolved. In Marbury v. Madison, he led the Court in striking down an act of Congress that was in conflict with the Constitution, legitimizing the doctrine of judicial review. Over the course of his thirty four year term, Marshall oversaw numerous landmark cases, his decisions in which played an undeniably critical role in the early development of American law. Thanks to his firm hand and consistent principles, he was able to secure the institutional power of the Supreme Court in the face of staunch Jeffersonian opposition affirming its place as an equal among the Executive and Legislative branches of government. The Supreme Court was established in 1789, with its powers stated in Article III of the newly ratified United States Constitution. In the years leading up to the Marshall era, the Court was little more than a shadow of its future self. It lacked both the prestige and authority of the latter 19th century. John Jay and his successors, Rutledge and Ellsworth oversaw few cases, and ever fewer significant ones. Often cited as an example of the early Court s inefficiency, their most ... • 43. The Icf Brief Core Set For Hl The novel approach used in this investigation, the validity of the ICF Brief Core Set for HL has been confirmed, supported the pilot studies results, and one category is being suggested to be added. Thereby, a statistically validated version of the ICF Brief Core Set is proposed and could be used as essential tool to capture factors leading to increase the likelihood of hearing disability and socioemotional isolation among older adults with and without HL. Overall, three methods (linking, self reported, and proposed model of standardized outcome measures) validated most of the ICF categories; however, there was a slight difference as a result of purpose of validation and research design as presented in Table 13. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the second pilot study we estimated the effect of global and specific cognitive functions in restricting participation in daily life activities. The Self Reported ICF Brief Core Set Scale for HL in its simple and initial version, obviously, reveals that memory and hearing dysfunctions and inability to listen and communicate effectively were the major problems that limit and restrict participation in social interactions followed by attention deficits, temperament and personality, emotional problems, and sensation of tinnitus. These finding were verified and confirmed by the standardized outcome measures. In regards to the environmental factors, it is interesting that the majority of the participants rated background noise and loud sound as barriers, while majority rated family support, family attitude, and social attitude as facilitators that have a relevant influence on functioning. For older adults HA users, the majority rated HAs use as facilitators, however, few reported HAs use as barriers. Further, the Self Reported ICF Brief Core Set Scale for HL factor analysis replicated the four factor solution of older adult s functional performance that was found in the pilot studies linking methodology and qualifier coding procedure (Alfakir, et al., 2015a). • 44. The Role Of Settler Colonization And Its Negative... In April 1995 Pamela George, an Ojibway women, was brutally murdered in Saskatchewan. Her murderers Steven Kummerfield and Alex Ternowetsky, young middle class white men, were convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to merely six and a half years in prison. George s story is one of the many Indigenous women who have been murdered or missing over the past years. There are over 580 cases of missing and murdered Indigenous women, close to half are put aside and left unsolved. Only 53% of these cases have lead to charges of homicide (Klement 8). Drastically, statistics indicate that Aboriginals are faced with more hardships throughout their life compared to the average Canadian. Indigenous groups, particularly women, suffer from a lower rate of education, higher suicide rates and an array of health risks. This paper will examine the role settler colonization history has played in perpetuating conditions for violence to indigenous women, many of which are still experienced today. This will be accomplished by first assessing the history of settler colonization and its negative repercussions. Secondly, it will use Sherene Razak s concept of spatial segregation, to illustrate how state institutions have facilitated violence through space, race and the law. Lastly, this paper will use evidence from the film Finding Dawn to further demonstrate how violence towards indigenous women is institutionally produced. In the 16th century, French colonists arrived to Newfoundland ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. My Catholic Church Experience Paper On April 11th, 2017, I attended mass in the Blessed Edmund Chapel. Unlike other weekday masses, this one was scheduled at 7 AM because of it being Holy Tuesday. Never having been to a Catholic mass before, all of this was a new experience. Growing up in a non denominational Christian household, I did not have a clue what to expect. From this experience, I was able to gain insight into the Catholic practices and how they conduct their masses. It also helped to expand on the teachings we discussed in religion class. When you first walked into the Blessed Edmund Rice Chapel, you see chairs lined up in front of the altar and podium. Underneath a majority of the chairs, lay a bible to follow along with the sermon of the mass. In front, in front of the altar, there were two candles that a Brother lit during the mass. Even though the chapel being small might seem like a disadvantage, I thought that this feature offered a more personal and close experience. Up on the altar, in between the candles, there was a wooden figure of Jesus on the cross. It was in a way similar to churches I have attended before, except there was no altar or podium, and was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was interesting to finally see the Catholic religion in practice rather than discussing it. I learned how the worship differs from the fellowship church and at a Catholic Mass. This was my first time experiencing music like this and also having a service conducted like this. It took a shorter period of time than I was used to and involved less singing. Attending a Catholic mass definitely helped me to better understand the practices of Catholics. It taught me more about scripture and also provided me with an insight to a different religion s customs. From this experience I will take away a new knowledge of the religion the college I attend represents. It also showed me what a Brother exactly was and what their duties ... The Indian and the White Communites in Dances with Wolves and Machimanito The film Dances with Wolves shares a lot of its content with the story Machimanito. In Dances with Wolves, two nations come to interact with each other. While the white man is dominating the land, the Indians are trying to protect both their land and themselves. In Machimanito, the story describes the epidemic and its effects on the Indians, while describing the ongoing conflict between Indians and the white man. There is a huge cultural difference between the white man and the Indians, which is reflected on their ways of life and communities; each lives a different life style including their interaction with nature and themselves, their authority within this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Indians establish their roots in the land and start extracting their needs passively and in rational amounts that are enough for their survival. The setting of each of the two communities in Dances with Wolves reflects their personality. The Indians live as whole and on a piece of land where all the tents are near each other. This stresses that Indians live collectively rather than individually like the white man. The first time Dunbar rides to the Indians with Stands with a Fist, the camera shows Dunbar as being on the top of the hill; the camera is looking up on Dunbar. Then it moves upwards to give the viewer a panorama of the surroundings of the community. This sight includes: trees, land, mountains and a river. These are the basic elements of nature and the Indians live within these elements. This resembles the bond which the Indians have with nature. When the camera gives a view of the soldiers fort, it is noticeable that there is almost no trees presents, and a logical reason is that the tree have been used to build the post. The buildings in the post emphasize the separation of the white man, as they are built within a considerable distance between each other. These walls separate people from each other; thus emphasizes and explains the individuality of the white man. Also Dunbar builds a fence for his horse to stay in, while in the Indian community all the horses are left to their will. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. The Oversexualization And Objectification Of Women The Oversexualization and Objectification of Women On all platforms of media, women and even young girls are oversexualized; thus leading to men viewing women as no more than breasts, vaginas, legs, or any other body part they prefer. Even in current television shows, movies, comic books, and advertisements, women are still depicted as sexual objects, which can damage a woman s confidence. The oversexualization of women s bodies can degrade a young woman s confidence, and when girls try to boost confidence by dressing or acting like the women they see in the media, they are reprimanded for it. Girls cannot be blamed for their sexualization; they are just emulating what they see in the media. On television and in movies, women are often portrayed as the love interest for the main male character or the succubus that tries to gain the main character s love through temptation. Most the women depicted in the romances are white, thin, and busty. Often the attractive female lead has a best friend who is deemed overweight and never receives any romantic interactions. The only goal the female character has is to gain the attention of the main character. In other movies and television shows when the female character is not considered attractive, she must go through a complete makeover before her love interest even notices her. Once the makeover is complete, the girl s love interest is completely stupefied with her beauty and instantly falls in love with her. This plot device leads ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On Edsel s passing in 1943, Henry Ford came back to the administration, yet in 1945 he turned it over to his grandson, Henry Ford II, who revamped the organization s tangled arrangement of budgetary administration and revitalized its corporate culture by employing capable more youthful administrators. The fizzled presentation of the Edsel (display years 1958 60) happened in the midst of these triumphs. Henry Ford II kept on managing the organization as CEO (1945 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Data Protection and Customer Privacy The media, trade bodies and academia has created a large buzz around the Data Protection and customers privacy in the recent years. The consequences of the issue raised are different legislation policies, self regulation, and general confusion. In order to be discussed, this controversial topic should be looked at from two different perspectives: customers one and direct marketers one. From customers point of view, direct marketing is undoubtedly an invasion of their privacy. Consumers feel intimidated by the direct marketing campaigns that fire them with different types of unwanted printed and online media daily. Further, many of them are being concerned about their personal information being so easily available which makes them feel vulnerable. On the other side are direct marketers who put a lot of effort in their attempts to engage the audience and build/maintain relationships with them. Moreover, practitioners believe that they are targeting the best prospects and best customers (rather than uninterested people) who are willing to buy the products offered and are happy to receive up to date information about them. Thus, it has been assumed that marketers see themselves as assistants who help people in choosing the best deals available whereas customers feel like victims rather than catered for. Customers concerns about their privacy could be simply splitted up into two parts: unwanted direct marketing approaches and privacy issues. Junk mail , Spam emails, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
