Cultural Identity Development
Before we delve into how culture and society heavily influences our identity, we must consider
what makes a society a society. In a sense, a society is expounded as a group of individuals who
live under a particular ambiance and collaborate in the exchange of words while sharing common
interests and aims amongst each other. The people of today have the fascinating ability to
accumulate unique ideas that could potentially change the world as well as influence others into
how they may think of themselves. I am drawn to the thought that in order for there to be change,
there must be those who are willing to sacrifice. Unfortunately, there are some things that go
sacrificed unwillingly but are condoned by the majority as the norm. The culturethat we hold
behind our identities often becomes distorted by outside factors such as our peers and the world
around us. The moment we are born into this world, we are exposed to new stimuli on a daily
basis. Things like friends and family have a huge influence on one s identity. Humans are naturally
driven by the strong desire of belongingness within our communities and so we look for the
fragments that develop our identities. Individuals seek traits that will make others... Show more

No matter who you are or what environment you live under, the physical or mental aspects of that
particular individual will be greatly affected by the society that they themselves explore every day.
Before we answer this particular question, we must understand just how human identity is
developed, what culture consists of, and then drive towards our conclusion of how culture
influences identity development. For the most part, in order to know what stimulates the growth of
identity development, we must comprehend how identity is developed. Identity development starts
with infants realizing their sense of self which perpetuates throughout childhood and then becomes

Literary Analysis Of Roman Fever
In Roman Fever by Edith Wharton s, Grace Ansley and Alida Slade begin to discuss their past and
present with one another revealing some skeletons in the closet. Wharton wanted the readers to
focus on the betrayal from a so called friend Mrs. Ansley. Furthermore, Wharton wanted the readers
to think about deceit in the story by actively misleading Mrs. Slade. In the end, what was noted to
be miserable, gains notoriety by revealing the ultimate secret.
The setting of Roman Fever takes place in a Roman restaurant terrace. Surrounded by beautiful
sunsets and prior history, It tends to take a toll on both women that leads to a great deal of emotion.
As young aged women in Rome, young Grace was always sweet and quiet. Alida was engaged to
Delphin. Suspecting that her friend may have feelings for her fiancГ©, Alida wrote a misleading
letter to Grace, requesting that they meet at the Colosseum, signed with Delphin Slades initials.
However, the temperatures near the Forum and Colosseum at night can be brutal, and young Grace
is liable to become ill. It ultimately led to Grace and Alida s friendship to deteriorate.
One can find it rather difficult to believe that these two women were actually childhood
companions. They appear to be the opposite of one another. Mrs. Slade, who is described as
fuller, and higher in color, with a small determined nose supported with vigorous black eyebrows,
(Wharton) seems to be as arrogant and envious of Mrs. Ansley. Mrs. Ansley, however, was

Using Interviews And Questionnaires On Cardiovascular Disease
Methodology Introduction Interviews and Questionnaires Prior to the date of the interview, a letter
explaining the purpose of the research was sent to all the identified potential respondents. On the
day of the survey, respondents were requested to fill consents forms to indicate whether they agree
to the survey. For respondents that were below 18 years, their parents were asked to fill consent
forms indicating their consent to allow their children participate in the exercise. On a separate
form, they were asked to fill their personal data After that the survey was administered to every
respondent. The survey mainly concentrated on cardiovascular disease and the risk factors
associated with it. They were asked a set of questions touching on general health as well as lifestyle
factors including physical activity, alcohol consumption, diet and consumption of fruits and
vegetables, smoking and other such risk factors for cardiovascular disease. They were also asked to
state whether a member of their family had suffered from cardiovascular disease in order to
determine the level of contribution by genetic make up. The patients were also asked about
prescribed medication, nicotine replacement treatments, and vitamin supplements. To determine
their risks of contracting CVD, informants were asked to state whether they had previously
experienced any of the following conditions which are strong indicators of CVD: heart attack,

Analysis Of The Movie Mr. Essay
Mr. Bones is a story of a boy s account of his father s change of personality after joining a
minstrel show. The boy narrates the big contrast in the family dynamics as the father takes on an
alternative persona. The sudden change of personality causes the boy to doubt how his father
really is. Mr. Bones advocates the idea that we should not judge a book by its cover, as there is
more to a person than what we see. It also represents how everyone has feelings, and the desire to
be heard and treated properly. The author uses the minstrel shows songs, the Jim Crow laws and its
stereotypical character Jim Crow to symbolize the changes the character go through.
Mr. Bones revolves around a quiet dysfunctional family where the narrator describes that The
quiet household is often more turbulent than the household of the tyrant or the drunkard (Page
2). The mother has full control of the household while the father can only listen to her constant
nagging but he always has a smile on his face. One day, his father introduces himself as Mr.
Bones which is the father s alternate personality. Mr. Bones often jokes and taunts even to his
wife that makes his wife feel smaller and more scared each day. It is interesting as that the
narrator points out that the jokes his father says are more than jokes (Page 13). These jokes are
the father s way of telling the truth. For example, the yellow mustard, which he calls mouse turd
(Page 13), is tasteless and cheap. He also pokes fun at the

Racial Differences Between African Americans And Europeans
Morrison expounds on this by explaining that racial characters like that in books and novels are
formed by an African presence, a presence that has a three parts towards its development. The
first part is through the hierarchic difference between African Americans and Europeans, which
was established years ago and is the simplest feature of the development. Basically, it is the
established belief of Europeans academic dominance over that of Africans, and the view of
Africans as ignorant and savage beast, not even humans. This belief is indeed how slavery was
formed. The second stage of the construction of Africanist is a bit more complex. This one is
involved the cracks and uncertain nature of Africans; this aspect involved the fear of What If? As
in what if Africans gained the knowledge to read and write, or what if they figure out that being
enslaved is indeed wrong and that the form together an army to fight back and gain their
independence from slavery. The third and final stage of this construction process is the use of
African Americancharacters, or any character that is of darker skin, and create the image of them
being evil or immoral or impure in comparison to Europeans and those of lighter skin tone. All three
stages combined creates the American Africanist that has caused many literary works be thrown
away and lost in history with other historical significance that the African race had a hand in the
development of the United Statesof America.

Climate and topography are two very important factors that may influence industries profitability
and productivity. Is important for business leaders to recognize how climate and topography factors
impacts different industries. Recognizing climate and topography could be of assistance for
businesses venturing into the global business environment arena. Climate and topography are
factors of huge importance when determining location and strategic planning. One of the industries

is the combination of manufacturers of electronics products at different scales. Climatic
considerations are very important to the electronics industry. The incorrect climatic condition could
cause devastating effects for example Tribocorrosion involves mechanical and chemical
/electrochemical interactions between surfaces in relative motion in the presence of a corrosive
environment. Tribocorrosion phenomena are encountered in many technological areas where they
cause damage to installations, machines, and devices. Often tribocorrosion damage is a problem for
safety or for human health. In other applications tribocorrosion phenomena are put to good use in
manufacturing. The chemo mechanical mechanisms of tribocorrosion are still incompletely
understood, they involve the properties of contacting material surfaces, the mechanics of the
contact and the corrosion conditions (D Landolt, 2006). The tribocorrosion example clearly
illustrates how climate could directly affect the electronics industry. Topographic considerations are
also directly linked to this industry. The incorrect topographic location chosen for a factory or
distribution center could cause millions in loses to the industry. The electronics industry depends

Creating A Centralized Collection Of Information About Our...
Section One In 1995 with the emergence of the Internet as a powerful tool that was clearly here to
stay, a project began to create a centralized collection of information about our nation s wilderness.
Before the proposal of the Wilderness Information Network, information on the wilderness was
spread across multiple sites controlled by different branches of the government that held relevant
information. The Wilderness Information Network (WIN) sought to unite the information in a way
that the general public, wilderness visitors, scientists, managers, educators, legislators, and
government agents would all be able to make productive use of the available information, which
would be provided by the National Park Service, Bureau of Land... Show more content on

However, the Park Service s representative on the steering committee for the project, found this to
be duplicative. The representative, Wes Henry, believed that any information sought by the WIN
was available through Park.Net, the National Park Service s (NPS) operational webpage. He
believed that the WIN would be placing extra burden on Park managers, seeking the extra effort in
an attempt to gain irrelevant or ill thought out information. This begs the question: How could the
WIN move forward without the NPS, which oversaw 42%, the greatest percentage under a single
agency, of wilderness land? The key actors in the problem on the WIN would be the government
agencies comprising the steering committee and their representatives, and while three institutions in
Missoula, MT served as the driving force behind the project (the University of Montana, the Aldo
Leopold Wilderness Research Institute and the Arthur Carhart National Wilderness Training
Center), they were a part of the National Wilderness Preservation System that was made up of the
four federal agencies. The steering committee included Wes Henry of the National Park Service,
Jeff Jarvis of the Bureau of Land Management, Peter Jerome of the Fish and Wildlife Service, and
Jerry Stokes of the US Forest Service. This committee served as the closest thing to a directing

A Murder Is Anounced Play Themes
Drama Review
Introduction:
Greed, betrayal and deceit are words that accurately define Hobart Repertory Theatre Society s
abridged production of A Murder Is Announced directed by Don Gay. Calvin Christian School s
grade 9 12 drama classes and the Student Theatre Company attended this production on Thursday
the 7th of May at The Playhouse Theatre. This play is an adaptation of the famous book by author
Agatha Christie who is considered the 2nd best selling writer closely behind William Shakespeare.
Plot:
A murder is announced in the local newspaper and it reads that it would take place at Little
Paddocks in Chipping Cleghorn. People start gathering at the household, awaiting the suspicious
death. Is it a fake or a practical joke? No one will know until the lights go out! ... Show more

But the main theme in the book and the play is murder . The whole play revolves around this
mysterious murder, eventually we find out that the murder revolves around money. It shows us that
people will do anything and everything in the pursuit for money. The play has a universal theme,
meaning that everyone could relate to it. Not everyone has killed someone to get money, but
everyone can understand the lengths some people go to obtain what is not rightfully theirs,
especially money.
The style of the murder mystery is cosy . This means that this style of murder is not as
horrifying or violent as some other murders. The violence is toned down and is not as terrifying
because it is treated in a humorous way. Cosy murder mysteries aren t filled with blood and gore
so you could easily watch or read this type of murder without getting completely scared. Agatha
Christie used cosy murder mysteries a lot in her books and it considered the cosy queen .
A Murder Is Announced also addresses the idea of class and status. This play is set in England in
the 1950s and class and social structure defined society in that time.

Favelas Of Brazil Essay
World Sporting Events are Much More Than Just Games The cries of mistreated people in the
favelas of Brazil are heard, but not helped. According to the IOC (International Olympic
Committee), the preparations made by Brazil for the World Cup and Olympics have been the
worst they have ever seen. Brazil has reportedly dropped 14 billion on the World Cup alone, the
money spent on the World Cup has gone to stadiums and and all aid for the event. This emmense
spending to people being evicted due to needed space for the events and activities, given low pay
because the economy can no longer support the money being spent, living in terrible conditions due
to the government cutting off all aid and support to its people. All these events combined... Show

The Brazilians living in the favelas who are revolting are not bad people, they just aren t being
treated the way people are supposed to be treated. With no other way to express their anger
towards their government, they lash out. This is not right, but is it wrong to express yourself?
These riots are due to the overall mistreatment of the people in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. Brazil
was not ready to say the least. I am not saying Rio is not a great place to visit, they just were not
ready. They were unprepared for both the Olympics and World Cup. They had to build stadiums
fastly and they had to deal with the outbreak of their own people. Brazil ran into these problems
just like any other country does that holds a worldwide major sporting event. The best two
examples to compare to Brazil are Sochi in 2014 and Beijing in 2008. Sochi 2014 was not as
bad as Brazil, but the preparations were morally questionable when it came to some strategies.
The Russian Government, however, was preparing for seven years for the olympics in sochi,
Brazil has been for only four years. Brazil is not ready to say the least, but even with so much
time some things happened that still were not so humane. Overall, Sochi was much more of a
success when it came to preparing for the olympics. In Sochi, there were wild dogs everywhere in
the streets. This fiasco with clearing the streets of dogs

An Hour Imagery
Kate Chopin in, The Story of an Hour, uses imagery to create symbolism, enhance the irony, and to
convey the conflict. Chopin has a way of creating these ideas in your head through the words she
uses in her stories. The Story of an Hour, bases it s main theme on Freedom and Confinement,
which shows in many ways like, for example, the delicious breath of rain, which symbolizes
refreshment and new beginnings within the story. By Enhancing the irony of the denouement
/protagonist s situation, it creates a vast amount of imagery within, The Story of an Hour. Moreover,
josephine worries that Mrs. Mallard locked herself in her room and is making herself ill.

Consequently, many refer to Chopin s stories as having a unique approach to worldwide issues
and concerns. Chopin doesn t want to change the world; all she wants is to describe it as best
she could through her pieces of literature. The goal is to expose the truth about the lives of many
women and men in the nineteenth century and how challenging it really is. There is an infinite
amount of literary devices, including imagery, to show the reality of society s situation back in
the 18th century within the story. In, The Story of an Hour, her main idea/theme is the pure
formality of Freedom and Confinement for women through marriage. Within creating imagery,
there is robust continuously throughout the story itself. Accordingly, she gives the reader a
sense of Mrs. Mallard s new life through the view of an open window. Nevertheless, she wants
her audience to experience what Mrs.Mallard was so that the readers will fully understand the
severity of women s situations then and now who have to go through the pain that Mrs.Mallard
did every single day. Bob Marley once said that, Beginnings are usually scary, and endings are
usually sad, but it s everything in between that makes it all worth living, and in Mrs.Mallard s
case, that reigns true. The emotions she feels when she liberates from her tight chains of marriage
became the reason she wants to live and to keep moving forward. That feeling makes her life
worth living again, but then disaster strikes and that feeling vanishes along with her living,
breathing self. Mrs.Mallard didn t die of joy that kills, she dies of the darkness of her past,
consuming every last breath she takes, and then... she s

1.2.1 Introduction
Indian theatre is one of the longest and amplest theatres in the world; it dated back to around
5000 years, as the other theatres in over the world Indian theatre emerged in the seasonal
celebration and religious ritual. Bharata s Natya Shastra was regarded to many Indian writers as
the oldest and most detailed in the dramaturgy context, where the origin of word drama in Sanskrit

The Cultural Identity Of The African American Community
The African American community has sat at the end of a discriminatory lens from the moment they
set foot in the United States. For that reason, black communities have undergone the process of
community building to ensure that all members feel a sense of belonging.
Race, gender, nationality, ethnicity, poverty, and sexual orientation
, all play a role in developing one
s identity and more often than not, these multiple identities intersect with blackness. Being that
American society has deemed colored people and populations as minoritarian subjects, African
diaspora people can be seen making safe spaces for themselves to survive as individuals and as a
part of communities.
Stuart Hall s Cultural Identity and Diaspora focuses on the current issues of identity, cultural
practices and cultural representations. He analyses the visual representations of Afro Caribbean s
and challenges the notions of identity from African and European places. Hall then goes on to
explain how Caribbean cinema has chosen to both, refute and embrace European influence. He
presents two different forms of thinking about cultural identity. In the first position, Hall defines
cultural identity in terms of one, shared culture, which people with a shared history and ancestry
hold in common. The first model uses stable, unchanging and continuous frames of reference and
meanings to present the idea of shared culture, history, and ancestry rooted beneath more superficial
imposed selves (Hall, 223).

Father Paneloux Religion
In his novel The Plague, Albert Camus conveys through Father Paneloux s character that an
idealistic, man made paradise does not prevent groundless contexts from unfolding; thus, religion
ineffectively evades the Absurd, but bolsters the illogical thinking that it is escapable. Father
Paneloux reinforces the theory that God bestowed the plagueon the citizens of Oranas a punishment
for their sins; he expands that this penalty forces the citizens to confront the ultimate test: whether
to accept God or not. In order to rationalize the case of an innocent child s death, Father Paneloux
explains to the congregation that God s plan includes suffering; therefore, if it was God s will,
[they], too should will it (225). He deducts that in trusting... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

His own justification cannot even convince him completely, and he begins to doubt if a god truly
exists because he simply cannot understand. Nevertheless, he retreats to religion and acts upon his
faith in order to combat the Absurd. Father Paneloux remains true to his faith; however, he
ultimately succumbs to death, which raises questions about religion s success in withstanding the
Absurd. Because priests dedicate their whole entity to God, Father Paneloux refuses to develop
close relationships or seek for medical assistance because it was against his principles (234). He
embraces his death if it supports God s divine plan, and as a result, his condition worsens.
However, his doctrines do not cure him of his anonymous disease, and his rejection for aid only
contributes to the Absurd. Father Paneloux s death validates Camus message that religion acts like
a fruitless safe haven from the incongruous situations that the citizens in Oran do not wish to
confront. Symbolized by the roar of the wind (229), the plague even roams in the Cathedral square
(229); this significantly reveals that the Absurd conquers and defeats

Collateral Damage with the Frontier Resource Group
Have you considered what would happen if we acted on our own conscience and did what we
thought was right? Think about the impact that would occur on others around us. The US has
several groups of privatized military men that engage in military tactics around the world. Where
collateral fallout and world conflict arise, the privatized military group known as Frontier Resource
Group conducts military missions. Mercenary, Erik Prince, founder of the privatized military
organization known as Frontier Resource Group, used his navy seal background and
information obtained from the CIA to carry out his own reconnaissance missions. War torn
countries like Somalia, South Sudan, and central Africa are just a few countries that Frontier

Prince integrates his own military evaluations, war tactic, and analysis, to inflict harm and sell
firearms to enemies in devastated war torn countries. Building roads and investing in airstrips for
some of the poorest regions in Africa seems like a legitimate business turn around for a war
profiteer like Erik Prince. Recently, Prince made a 105 million dollar deal with Citic, an
advertising firm based in Hong Kong, for transporting equipment and provided security in and
around some of Africa s most dangerous regions. (Feith) His privatized military group, planned

Personal Goals And Abilities Of A Social Enterprise
According to (Young, 2008) A social enterprise is thought to be something new and something
distinct from classical business and traditional non profit activity, combining at different extents
elements of the social purpose, the market orientation and financial performance standards of
business . When looking at starting up a social enterprise there are important points that need to be
looked at the help ensure the enterprise is successful.
Firstly before the start up of a social or technological enterprise there are issues that have to be
assessed, these are personal goals and abilities, resource availability and opportunity (Schaper,
Volery, Weber Gibson, 2014). The personal goals and abilities of a social enterprise are to address
social and environmental problems, mostly looking at the root of a market, also aiming for the
majority of profits to be reinvested back into the enterprise this will increase social purpose. A
standard enterprise is usually more concerned in earning profits for the shareholders and owners
(Social Enterprise UK, 2012).
Resource availability is another issue that has to be assessed before starting a social enterprise,
more specifically entry costs and exit costs. In New Zealand the social finance sector is
significantly under developed and as a result of this it makes social enterprise start up very
difficult, therefore initial financing has to come from New Zealanders own personal pockets until
some sort of funding is found (Schaper,

Large amounts of white population in Montgomery went against the bus boycott and some even
used violent actions. The White Citizen s Council listed some of the telephone numbers of white
people who support the boycott, and numerous people made phone calls to complain about the

Hydraulic Fracturing In Michigan, The Great Lake State
Michigan, the Great Lake state. Michigan is quite unique among the states for it touches four of
the five great lakes, hence the nickname the great lakes state. Michigan has over 12,000 lakes,
and more shoreline than any other state besides Alaska. you re never more than six miles from a
lake (), making it easy to see why Michigan has a thriving recreational industry. Blue water, sandy
shores and towering sand dunes make this state truly special. Hydraulic Fracturing, or Fracking
threatens to take away what makes this state so special. Fracking provides short term benefits and
is a much cleaner alternative to coal, but has negative long term impacts. The First is that fracking
uses huge amounts of water. Every time a well is fracked, millions of gallons of water are removed
from the Great Lakeshydrological cycle forever. Secondly is the worry that potentially dangerous
chemicals used may escape and pollute the air and contaminate groundwater causing a number of
environmental and health hazards.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

better alternative to coal, which does not burn as cleanly. However, harmful substances are
contained in the fracking fluid that is pumped into the pipes to crack the shale and release natural
gas. Sadly natural gas is not the only thing flowing back up the

The Courtroom Trial That Can Affect The Verdict Verdicts
There are numerous factors in a courtroom trial that can significantly affect the verdict reached by
jurors and can potentially influence whether the perpetrator of crime is ultimately convicted or is
acquitted. In this essay I will explore several of these factors including how the personal
characteristics of the defendant (e.g. attractiveness, gender and race) persuasion techniques (e.g.
order of testimony) and jurycharacteristics can determine the conviction of a criminal.
Psychological research has shown that the attractiveness can influence jury decisions with studies
demonstrating an attractive bias in that attractive defendants tend to receive more lenient sentences
for similar crimes carried out by less attractive people. For example, Castellow et al (1990) aimed
to test the effect of the attractiveness of a defendant on guilty verdicts. This was done by
conducting a lab experiment in which 145 students were given details of a sexual harassment case
and then shown images of a defendant victim. These images had been previously categorised as
attractive/unattractive by a panel as perceptions of attractiveness are mainly consistent between
genders and races (Eisenthal et al. 2006). It was found that the combination of an attractive victim
unattractive defendant created the highest percentage of guilty verdicts (83%) when they were
asked whether the defendant was guilty of sexual harassment. However, only 41% guilty verdicts
were reported when the defendant was

The Dark Avengers
Heroes come in all shapes and sizes; tall, dark, handsome, ugly, astute, or mentally handicapped,
and Shane is no exception. He rode into their lives with temperance and vigor, and left a legacy
behind. How does one deal with a shady business man who is hell bent on wanted and willful
destruction of freedom? Brute force has always been the heroes approach. Shane rode into a small
town in Wyoming and met a family, who with all their respect needed a hero. Both of the stories
that I will tell, including Shane s and the story of Tombstone had their similarities, and also had
their differences. What is it about the dark clothed eerie figures that instill so much fear in the
hearts of vigilantes? Perhaps it is their silence that speaks such... Show more content on

Another obstacle lay ahead as Fletcher would not have this stranger ruin his plans of
domination. Up on the balcony behind Shane he took a shot. Missing his target, Shane returned
fire in a glorious finish to what was a choice long awaited in his mind. I expect that finishes it,
Schaefer (141) he uttered, and it did. I will now describe Wyatt Berry Stapp Earp; a lawman,
hunter, gambler, saloon keeper, miner, and boxing referee. Wyatt s appearance was always
professional. He would wear pressed black suits and pants, with a vest, and underneath the suit,
a white dress shirt was visible. On his head, a top hat was occasionally seen. When he was
younger, around twenty years of age, facial hair was a constant for Earp. It started as a small
moustache, and grew into a wavy horizontal pattern that remained fixed upon his face. His eyes
were dark and he seemed to wear a scowl, any man that strolled by him could not help but notice
his intense aura. Many people thought of him as the county sheriff; however he preferred the city
marshal title. His attitude toward crime involved taking no chances, and he became known for
cracking the long barrel of his Colt over the heads of offenders, a good solution to avoid a fatality,
and for delivering the perpetrator into prison. Wyatt loved to disturb the peace when a member of
the town became disorderly. The movie Tombstone portrays his character well as a courtesy starved

Guns Kill, but Laws Never Will Guns have been used throughout history for many reasons
including hunting, fighting in wars, and for personal safety. Unfortunately, guns have also been
used negatively and have caused many deaths. There have been laws in place to control the use of
guns throughout history starting in the late 1700s. The first law was the Second Amendment
which guaranteed the, right of the people to keep and bear arms. KRCRTV.com reported on
February 19, 2013 that the first gun control laws were created in Georgia in 1837 banning hand
guns. They also stated that Congress has started many other gun control laws over the past eighty

Obama wanted to strengthen the ban on assault weapons, which were the weapons used by
several killers in mass shootings in 2015. Most mass shootings are committed by people with
mental illnesses, or people who were bullied or frustrated at work. With weak gun control people
are able to purchase guns easily, and those that want to use them for mass shootings have very
little standing in their way. Mass shooters, people with mental issues, and people with criminal
backgrounds are all able to acquire guns, which calls for stricter background checks to be
performed. Some countries have very restrictive background checks that require people to take
gun training, get a hunting license, and show proof of membership to a shooting range. They also
require that people prove that they are not mentally ill, do not have a criminal background, are old
enough to have a gun, and do not have a police record. Frederick Lemueux from Slate Magazine
says, With these provisions, most U.S. active shooters would have been denied the purchase of a
firearm. In addition, a study from the John Hopkins Center for Gun Control Policy and Research
found that after the backgrounds checks were no longer required beginning in 2007 in Missouri, the
murder rate increased 16 percent. If background checks had continued in this state, many of these
murders would not have occurred because the shooters would not have been

The Qualities Of An Anglo Saxon Hero
Bravery. Honor. Intelligence. Loyalty. Sense of Duty. Selflessness. Sense of Justice. Strength.
Boasting. These are the common characteristics of an Anglo Saxon hero. Anglo Saxon heroes
display some or all of these attributes, which help distinguish them as a hero. Much like Batman
and Superman or other heros of modern day, Anglo Saxon heroes protect the public against evil
foes, or perhaps Villains. They act courageously and selflessly, without seeking personal gain. Also,
they possess an overwhelming sense of duty to protect those in need. Furthermore, Superheros are
loyal to those they serve, whether it be their lord, or the Lord. With all these characteristics in mind,
the character of Beowulfcan clearly be seen as an Anglo Saxon hero. Specifically, his overwhelming
bravery, loyalty, and sense of duty establish him as an Anglo Saxon hero. First of all, Beowulf is
the pure embodiment of bravery. A man who drove five great giants into chains, chased all of that
race from the earth , and also swam in the blackness of night, hunting monsters out of the ocean
and killing them one by one , is clearly the bravest man alive, bar none. Furthermore, even before
he slayed Grendel, Grendel s mother, and the Dragon, Beowulf already had a reputation as one of
the bravest men in the word. Then, while battling the three beasts we witness in Beowulf, he further
shows his bravery by killing Grendel with nothing but the strength in his fingers.
After that, he swims down through

temples were constructed with the help of concrete and oriented themselves to face east towards the

Chemical Weathering
Background Information
Chemical weathering occurs when the erosion of rocks and the disintegration of rocks are caused
by chemical reactions with water and substances dissolved in it. This can occur in places where
rainfall is common, it occurs more rapidly at higher temperatures. Since high temperatures and
damp areas cause the chemical weathering process to increase, you can infer that chemical
weathering occurs more frequently in the spring.
There are different types of chemical weathering, the three big ones being solution, hydrolysis,
and oxidation. Solution weathering occurs when sulphuric acid in the air mixes with rainwater
turning it into acid rain. This is most common in highly polluted areas such as China which is a
very big country with a lot of cities and rural manufacturing plants. Acidic rain can remove
/damage rocks, limestone is especially vulnerable to weathering by rain water containing CO2.
The next type, hydrolysis weathering, breaks down rocks by acidic water to produce clay and a
soluble salt. The only rock not affected by hydrolysis is quartz. Finally the last type of weathering
is the breakdown of rocks by oxygen and water called oxidation, which makes rocks less resistant ...

People must have the same question I have. Why Hooke is writing to a person who is an expert

different kinds of field instead of just one field, so all kinds of scientist actually discuss about all

Judith Butler Religion
A traditional view of homosexuality is that it is perceived as wrong. It is to be avoided, to be
othered , and is subject to social abjection . In Judith Butler s Gender Trouble, she identifies a need
for a new interpretation of gender against the previous regime of gender hierarchy and compulsory
heterosexuality. In this essay, I will argue that Judith Butler s approach to genderpolitics is an
improvement on previous attitudes towards homophobia. I will do this through a close contextual
reading of Butler s work, particularly Gender Trouble and her article Imitation and Gender
Insubordination. Butler calls for a more fluid, variable interpretation of gender that would strive for
a new equality where subjects are not restricted to notions of masculinity or femininity . Butler
herself argues that gender is performance and is false, and this act of doing is just a social
construct. This then calls into question what the alternatives can be, and this essay will argue these
improvements on attitudes towards homosexualityrequires a deconstruction of attitudes towards
gender.
It will argue this through, firstly, establishing that a patriarchal societal regime with a mind towards
procreation has the expectation of conformity to binary gender roles in place. From this, it can be
drawn that sexual preference is inherently linked to gender construction, which needs to be
challenged. And then from these first two premises it guides us to question what the binaries of

A Clockwork Orange, by Stanley Kubrick
In this essay I will be exploring how the dystopian society in Stanley Kubrick s 1971 film
adaptation of Anthony Burgess 1963 novel, A Clockwork Orange has been used to explore
contemporary anxieties. A Clockwork Orange takes place in an outlandish and dreary vision of
future Britain governed by an oppressive, totalitarian super government. In this society, ordinary
people have fallen into a dazed state of complacency, unaware of the sinister growth of a rampant,
violent youth culture.
Anthony Burgess wrote his short novel A Clockwork Orangein 1962 as a way of coming to terms
with the rape of his first wife. The dystopian journey of A Clockwork Orangeis told through the
first person account of Alex, the fifteen year old anti hero of the novel who narrates in a teenage
jargon called nadsat , which incorporates elements of Cockney English slang and Russian. Alex,
together with his band of droogs, Georgie, Pete and Dim, who fill themselves up with milk laced
with drugs at the Korova Milkbar prior to a night of committing crimes of murder, rape, and theft.
In one of their most atrocious crimes, Alex and his band of droogs force their way into the home
of a couple, where they rape the woman as her husband is forced to watch. The turning action
comes when they then head back to the Korova, where they fight with each other. Alex, who loves
classical music, becomes angry at Dim when Dim mocks an opera that Alex adores. Alex punches

The aircraft assigned to execute these phases were the F 105 Thunderchief and the F 4 Phantom.
These two aircraft were the staples in Operation ROLLING THUNDER; however they were only
flown with moderate effectiveness. The F 105 known as a Thud was created for high speed
interdiction missions carrying nukes into Russia during the Cold War. In Vietnam they were
assigned a different interdiction mission carrying conventional dumb bombs which forced the
aircrews to fly slower at decreased altitudes and this greatly increased their vulnerability. On the
other hand the F 4 was a strong, versatile platform which allowed it to better accomplish
interdiction missions and it was extremely lethal during interception missions against MiGs. The
first phase consisted largely of attacks focused on targeting North Vietnam s logistical systems;
however it experienced limited success with a large amount of F 105s falling prey to SAM sites.
These logistical systems were the main sources behind many of the weapons and supplies that
insurgent forces were receiving. These missions were centered on strategic persuasion and
interdiction. The first phase placed a heavy emphasis on these types of missions, but they would
also continue throughout the rest of the air campaign. The second phase consisted primarily of
targeting supply lines and factories in North Vietnam. These included

The Poverty Cycle Of Homeless Children
education, despite income level, students have a higher chance of continuing and ending their
poverty cycle.
Homelessness
Poverty affects more than a child s education, it also impacts where that child might sleep at
night. During the 2009 2010 school year, 939,903 homeless children and youth were enrolled in
public schools, a 38% increase from the 2006 2007 school year ( Effects of Poverty... 2). These
numbers include grade K 12, so additional younger children may not be accounted for. In 2010
more than 1.6 million children (1 in 45 children) in America were homeless and that
approximately 650,000 are below age 6 ( Effects of Poverty... 2). Homeless children, whether that
be bouncing from home to home or living on the streets, may have a reduced quality of life..
According to Jeff Koistsky, the executive director of Hamilton Family Center:
Homelessness has a devastating impact on children. No access to places for homework, no places
to feel safe, and they don t even have a pillow or bed to lie down on. They can t even have a good
night s rest. It overall has a terrible impact on their academic and social development. (youtube

Opponents of the Flag Desecration Amendment, propose reasons that make sense in not passing
such an amendment and in doing so would lead to an ultimate betrayal of the freedoms granted
to us by the First Amendment. In passing the Flag Desecration Amendment, it would mean that
if a person wanted to express political freedom of speech by desecrating the flag they could not.
A proposed Amendment would undermine the First Amendment. As Americans we are granted
many freedoms and the freedom of speech is a major one, so if congress were to say that a
person could not express themselves and to have it in writing then what else would change.
Opponents also make a point that flag burning is rare. They say that is doesn t happen every
year, but when it has that it was to express political speech as the Supreme Court held in 1989.
Opponents also say that once freedoms such as this be taken away then what s to say what else
congress will regulate and subject to violations. Anna Ross, form the How a Member Decides to
Vote module mentions, that while it might make us mad to see our flag being desecrated, it is not
good enough reason to weaken one of the most important principals of democracy.
The module simulation was very informative; the how a member decides to vote module shows
the steps that are taken by a person in congress on voting for such a change. The process is
difficult, it takes a bit of personal beliefs and

Chinese Foreign Policy Towards North East Asian Countries
Introduction
In the 21st century, the rise of china has become the most remarkable event in the international
relations. China is one of the fastest growing economy in the world. Many researchers used
factionalism as a means to define Chinese foreign policy because of the conflict among the top
leaders during the revolutionary period. Chinese foreign policy has become more pragmatic and
sophisticated. By joining the World Trade Organization, the country increased its participation in
the global economy (Hao, Y., Hou, Y, 2009).My research topic is on the Chinese foreign policy
towards North East Asian countries. This paper concentrates on the Chinese foreign relations with
North East Asian countries like Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Russia (Zhao, Q, 1997)
The author used three key words to understand the Chinese foreign policy i.e., modernization,
nationalism and regionalism. Modernization is important for the entire task as it is essential for
solving both the domestic and external problems of the country. Nationalism is one of the major
sources behind Chinese foreign relations. China s nationalism focuses more on the Chinese foreign
policy studies. Regionalism means China is having a power to concentrate on the political,
economic and military activities .These three trends influence the Chinese foreign policies .People
of Republic China is regarded as regional power. Chinas trading activities mainly constitutes the
North East Asian countries (Zhao, Q, 1997)

Wildfire Effects
Whitebark pine (Pinus albicaulis) is a keystone species (Tomback et al. 2001), forming subalpine
and treeline forests that supply food and shelter for hundreds of plant and animal species. This trait
makes whitebark pine a quintessential high elevation conifer and it forms unique habitat types with
both geographic and successional variation that support considerable biodiversityacross the higher
mountains of the United states and Canada. (Tomback et al. 2001, Tomback and Achuff 2010).
Whitebark pineis a foundation species. The tree stands create a stable environment for other trees
and plants by holding rocks and soil on slopes where other trees cannot survive (Arno and Hoff
1989). It provides shelter and a gentler microenvironment where... Show more content on

Wildfire and prescribed burns have a variety of impacts on wildlife and habitats, both direct and
indirect (Wasserman 2015). Direct effects include fatality, emigration out of burned areas,
immigration into new areas. Indirect effects is changes in vegetative structure, diversity, species
composition, and other components of their habitat. Species responses to wildfire depends on
these direct and indirect effects of fire and how fire regimes and fire severity impacted the
landscape (FulГ© et al. 2003, Reynolds et al. 2013). Herbivores, such as elk, deer, and bighorn
sheep, respond in post fire wilderness due to the open dense canopies that allow an increase in
understory plants that herbivores feed on (Bailey and Whittam 2002). For example, elk prefer
forage quality that provide their required calorie intake to allow them to successfully produce
milk. During early succession, mid succession, and late succession of post fire habitat, forage
quality is at its highest during early succession stages in both mesic and xeric sites (Swanson et
al. 2011). This suggest that herbivores, like elk, would utilize these early succession post fire
areas. Carnivores and mesocarnivores respond to post fire changes as well. Male american black
bears and grizzly bears used burned sites increasing their home range post fire. Canids, such as the
coyote, use both burned and unburned areas due to food availability (Cunningham et al 2002). The
Mount Washburn sites are in landscapes that experienced high severity fires and have an abundance
of whitebark pine deadfall in the area. This overabundance of deadfall might detter larger
herbivores and carnivores decreasing wildlife species diversity. Wildlife species diversity is an
intuitive way to determine an ecosystem s health and status (Edwards and Abivardi 1998). Wildlife
species diversity boosts ecosystem productivity due to diversification

The Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada
5A. List the factors your team considers key to the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada (TMMC).
The factors that group two considers important to the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada will be
using the weighted scoring model which is a technique used to document decisions or solutions for
management to make informed decisions taking into account all available options when it comes to
resource allocation, (Carroll, Farr Trainor, 2008).
The group determined that the preferred cost of materials, labor, location, production capacity and
brand as the factors it considers important to the company?s success in Canada.

Endogenous Factors
Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada (TMMC) growth has meant new opportunities for Canadian
suppliers and has helped create new jobs across Canada. For example to support the launch of the
first Lexus built outside Japan, there have been new suppliers, built plants in communities as well
as the expansion of the suppliers base already there before TMMC moved into Canada.
Additionally because of the lower Canadian dollar compared to the US Dollar, Canadian plants
have shown two areas of high performance, which are quality and high productivity with the third
point being cost competiveness in the corporate income tax rate.
Additionally flexibility, which is very important to Toyota?s Total Production (TPS), does not
change volume by changing of plant layout but increases flexibility in overtime working and
general manpower. This flexibility gives employees the ability to work about 48 hours a week if
needed to meet demands of customers, (Smith, 2005).
Exogenous factors
The group determined that there are factors beyond its control such as material cost and labor,
location is contributes to the external factors that affected its weighted benchmarks. In Canada the
auto industry is still one of the highest paying fields and with Toyota?s reputation, they tend to
attract higher talent which

Initial FEAF Missions
Initial FEAF missions were the transportation of Army and Marine units and equipment from Japan
to South Korea, the evacuation of American civilian nationals, and obtaining significant intelligence
through aerial reconnaissance of North Korean troop movements south. Fighter bomber ground
attack missions by Japan based F 80Cs significantly slowed the North Korean Army s advance
during July 1950. On 13 July, the FEAF Bomber Command took over command of the 19th
Bombardment Group and of the 22nd and 92nd Bombardment Groups which had been transferred
from Strategic Air Command (SAC) bases in the United Statesto Japan. These B 29 Superfortress
units were used in tactical attacks which were not very successful.[10]
Despite repeated air attacks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The 31st Strategic Reconnaissance Group completed the team. The 92nd and 98th BGs and the
31st SRG operated from bases in Japan, whereas the 19th, 22nd, and 307th BGs were based in
Okinawa. Five major industrial centers in North Korea were earmarked for attack. This sort of
mission is what the B 29 had been designed for, and by early September, all known industrial
facilities in North Korea had been destroyed except for some oil storage facilities at Rashin,
which was considered too close to the Soviet border to risk an attack. By late September, all 18
strategic targets in North Korea had been destroyed, and the B 29 Force now turned to secondary
targets.[10]
Along with the SAC B 29 units, Tactical Air Command (TAC) deployed numerous fighter,
fighter bomber, tactical bomber, transport and support units to FEAF. TAC Lockheed F 80C
Shooting Star and Republic F 84E Thunderjets units deployed to FEAF to rapidly gain control of
the air from the Korean People s Armed Forces Air Corps (KPAFAC). For a time in August and
September 1950, all FEAF flying units had to fly from bases in Japan. The only continuously
usable tactical base in Korea was Taegu (K 2), which the FEAF used as a staging field to refuel and

Importance Of Moral Education In To Kill A Mockingbird
In Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus Finch reveals moral education to his children as
well as to others in Maycomb through his sympathy, diplomacy and morality. The author
demonstrates moral education through Atticus one way in the novel is through the sympathy
he conveys to those around him. Lee provides examples of this character when Scout is
informing the reader of what Atticus is doing as they walk ahead of her and Dill on their way
back home from finding Atticus and a lynch mob outside of the Maycomb County Jail: Atticus
and Jem were well ahead of us, and I assumed that Atticus was giving him hell for not going
home, but I was wrong...Atticus reached out and massaged Jem s hair, his one gesture of
affection (Lee 157). Although Jem does not follow Atticus s orders while at the jail because he is
worrying about his father s safety, Atticus does not get made and scold him. Instead, Atticus is
understanding of Jem and is somewhat proud of his son for standing up for what is right against
the racist lynch mob seeking Tom Robinson. This characteristic can also be seen while Scout is
describing the town of Maycomb, her family s history, as well as her relationship with her family
members to the readers: Jem and I found our father satisfactory: he played with us, read to us, and
treated us with courteous detachment (Lee 10). Atticus s relationship with his kids shows that he is
still caring and compassionate while also distancing himself from them. By Atticus

Principles of Management
15 September, 2016
History of Management: Paper 1 Many people have their fingerprints on what is known as
management today. Just as everything else it started from ground zero with a lot of trial and error.
Over the years brilliant people such as Adam Smith and countless others have etched into history
that best way to manage, whether on a small or large scale. The wake of these people is still being
seen today in upcoming companies such as Zappos, who brings fresh and new twists to management
as a whole. Management has evolved over the years and will continue to as people and procedures
do as well.
March 9, 1776 marked the date that Adam Smith wrote his widely known book The Wealth of
Nations . The book s original name is An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of
Nations, however it is not recognized by the majority public as so. Smith originally wrote the novel
to dismember the thought that mercantilism was a good idea. Only selling goods and gaining
nothing from trade in return proved in many cases to not be effective.. Smith wrote of the Invisible
Hand which claimed that people, by human nature, look out for their best interest and that in doing
so they unknowingly help the economy. Smith states, He (or she) generally, indeed, neither intends
to promote the public interest nor knows how much he is promoting it (Investopedia.com, An

The Birth Of The Fetus Essay
Woman all over the world who are expecting a baby handle the life changing journey in diverse
ways. Some are single first time mothers who are striving to find a way to make their
predicament work, a few are surrogates who are carrying a baby for a family who are unable to
conceive on their own, and many are families who are trying to broaden their current household. No
matter what the reasoning is behind the conception of the infant, there is always the mystery of how
much the fetusreally absorbs as they are progressing within the womb. Studies all over the globe
have been administered to uncover how much they obtain. Proving whether or not an infant will
react the same way or indifferently outside of the womb when being presented with the same
stimuli. These types of studies help exemplify what an infant actually retains outside of utero ,
and if all the classical music and endless conversations to the womb actually played a vital role in
the advancement of the fetus learning capabilities. Between the second and third trimester it is
vital for the baby to continue to grow as much as possible. If the baby were to arrive after 24
weeks, it would be able to survive, but it would have to remain the NICU. During the six months,
the eyelids finally open after being sealed during the entire pregnancy. Also the fetus has developed
taste buds, eyebrows, eyelashes, and a grasping motion. It is during the seventh month period, also
known as the fetal stage, that the fetus

Critical Analysis Of Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken
Critical Analysis of Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken
The speaker in Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken gives the reader insight into human nature
with each line of poetry. While, Frost had not originally intended for this to be an inspirational
poem, line by line, the speaker is encouraging each reader to seek out his or her own personal
path in the journey of life. Romanticizing the rural woods of New England creates the perfect
setting for the theme of self discovery laid out and described by the speaker.
Robert Frost s original intent in writing the poem was not to convey the inspiration that it has for
almost a hundred years. He had written the poem to poke fun at his friend, Edward Thomas, with
whom he had taken many walks. Thomas was hesitant and always wondering what would happen if
he had chosen a different path (http://www.yoga.com/raw/readings/frost_road.html). In fact, Frost
sent the poem to his friend, then in France, and got the response, ?What are you trying to do with
me?? (http://www.libarts.sfasu.edu/Frost/PopPoems.html). However, Frost did see the impact the
poem was having and stated, Do not follow where the path may lead?Go instead where there is no
path and leave a trail.
The speaker communicates many things in the first stanza of the poem. The first line, ?Two roads
diverged in a yellow wood,? uses imagery with the color yellow, the color of gold, to show that
the speaker sees an opportunity ahead of him. The two roads symbolizes the choices and
consequences he must choose. The next line, ?And sorry I could not travel both,? illustrates how
difficult it is to make a choice. It is impossible not to wonder what could happen by choosing the
other road and what he could be missing out on. ?And being one traveler long I stood,? shows
how the speaker would like to be in two places at once. Unable to accomplish this, he takes a
long time to decide on what he should do. Finally, the speaker describes studying the first option,
looking as far into the future as he possibly could with the lines, ?And looked down one as far as I
could to where it bent in the undergrowth.?
The speaker continues to convey his message in the second stanza of ?The Road Not Taken.? In the
opening line of this

Similarities Between The Alamo And The Battle Of San Jacinto
The Battle of Two Paintings
Remember the Alamo! This instantly iconic decree of hope and patriotism was yelled by Texan
soldiers as they fought in the Battle of San Jacinto, the deciding battle in the Texas war for
independence. The battle only lasted eighteen short minutes, and it was a Texan victory, causing
them to gain independence from Mexico. Those two events, the Battle of the Alamo and the Battle
of San Jacinto, inspired many people in many different ways, including Henry Arthur McArdle.
McArdle was a painter who would go on to paint two very famous paintings, The Battle of San
Jacinto and Dawn at the Alamo. While both of these paintings depict very similar scenes and have
the same techniques and composition, there are differences in both that make each painting unique.

Its vibrant blue color puts the viewer at ease, making the painting appear to be a tranquil and
peaceful scene. As the observer s eyes drift downward, they see the chaos as the Texans slowly
lose the battle. At the top of the left building, a Mexican flag flutters in the wind, and to the right,
another Mexican flag raises as the Texasflag is tossed to the ground. Through all this, at the bottom
of the painting, hope is still shown: the Texans will not give up. Patriotism is shown as although
they are outnumbered and their flag is lowered, they are still fighting. On the right side, it shows a
man much larger than the others, shooting a man holding a Mexican flag. This figure represents
patriotism in the physical form, and the observer can assume this man is an important figure in the
battle of the

  • 2. Cultural Identity Development Before we delve into how culture and society heavily influences our identity, we must consider what makes a society a society. In a sense, a society is expounded as a group of individuals who live under a particular ambiance and collaborate in the exchange of words while sharing common interests and aims amongst each other. The people of today have the fascinating ability to accumulate unique ideas that could potentially change the world as well as influence others into how they may think of themselves. I am drawn to the thought that in order for there to be change, there must be those who are willing to sacrifice. Unfortunately, there are some things that go sacrificed unwillingly but are condoned by the majority as the norm. The culturethat we hold behind our identities often becomes distorted by outside factors such as our peers and the world around us. The moment we are born into this world, we are exposed to new stimuli on a daily basis. Things like friends and family have a huge influence on one s identity. Humans are naturally driven by the strong desire of belongingness within our communities and so we look for the fragments that develop our identities. Individuals seek traits that will make others... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... No matter who you are or what environment you live under, the physical or mental aspects of that particular individual will be greatly affected by the society that they themselves explore every day. Before we answer this particular question, we must understand just how human identity is developed, what culture consists of, and then drive towards our conclusion of how culture influences identity development. For the most part, in order to know what stimulates the growth of identity development, we must comprehend how identity is developed. Identity development starts with infants realizing their sense of self which perpetuates throughout childhood and then becomes the main platform of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Literary Analysis Of Roman Fever In Roman Fever by Edith Wharton s, Grace Ansley and Alida Slade begin to discuss their past and present with one another revealing some skeletons in the closet. Wharton wanted the readers to focus on the betrayal from a so called friend Mrs. Ansley. Furthermore, Wharton wanted the readers to think about deceit in the story by actively misleading Mrs. Slade. In the end, what was noted to be miserable, gains notoriety by revealing the ultimate secret. The setting of Roman Fever takes place in a Roman restaurant terrace. Surrounded by beautiful sunsets and prior history, It tends to take a toll on both women that leads to a great deal of emotion. As young aged women in Rome, young Grace was always sweet and quiet. Alida was engaged to Delphin. Suspecting that her friend may have feelings for her fiancГ©, Alida wrote a misleading letter to Grace, requesting that they meet at the Colosseum, signed with Delphin Slades initials. However, the temperatures near the Forum and Colosseum at night can be brutal, and young Grace is liable to become ill. It ultimately led to Grace and Alida s friendship to deteriorate. One can find it rather difficult to believe that these two women were actually childhood companions. They appear to be the opposite of one another. Mrs. Slade, who is described as fuller, and higher in color, with a small determined nose supported with vigorous black eyebrows, (Wharton) seems to be as arrogant and envious of Mrs. Ansley. Mrs. Ansley, however, was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Analysis Of The Movie Mr. Essay Mr. Bones is a story of a boy s account of his father s change of personality after joining a minstrel show. The boy narrates the big contrast in the family dynamics as the father takes on an alternative persona. The sudden change of personality causes the boy to doubt how his father really is. Mr. Bones advocates the idea that we should not judge a book by its cover, as there is more to a person than what we see. It also represents how everyone has feelings, and the desire to be heard and treated properly. The author uses the minstrel shows songs, the Jim Crow laws and its stereotypical character Jim Crow to symbolize the changes the character go through. Mr. Bones revolves around a quiet dysfunctional family where the narrator describes that The quiet household is often more turbulent than the household of the tyrant or the drunkard (Page 2). The mother has full control of the household while the father can only listen to her constant nagging but he always has a smile on his face. One day, his father introduces himself as Mr. Bones which is the father s alternate personality. Mr. Bones often jokes and taunts even to his wife that makes his wife feel smaller and more scared each day. It is interesting as that the narrator points out that the jokes his father says are more than jokes (Page 13). These jokes are the father s way of telling the truth. For example, the yellow mustard, which he calls mouse turd (Page 13), is tasteless and cheap. He also pokes fun at the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Racial Differences Between African Americans And Europeans Morrison expounds on this by explaining that racial characters like that in books and novels are formed by an African presence, a presence that has a three parts towards its development. The first part is through the hierarchic difference between African Americans and Europeans, which was established years ago and is the simplest feature of the development. Basically, it is the established belief of Europeans academic dominance over that of Africans, and the view of Africans as ignorant and savage beast, not even humans. This belief is indeed how slavery was formed. The second stage of the construction of Africanist is a bit more complex. This one is involved the cracks and uncertain nature of Africans; this aspect involved the fear of What If? As in what if Africans gained the knowledge to read and write, or what if they figure out that being enslaved is indeed wrong and that the form together an army to fight back and gain their independence from slavery. The third and final stage of this construction process is the use of African Americancharacters, or any character that is of darker skin, and create the image of them being evil or immoral or impure in comparison to Europeans and those of lighter skin tone. All three stages combined creates the American Africanist that has caused many literary works be thrown away and lost in history with other historical significance that the African race had a hand in the development of the United Statesof America. Tribocorrosion phenomena are encountered in many technological areas where they cause damage to installations, machines, and devices. Often tribocorrosion damage is a problem for safety or for human health. In other applications tribocorrosion phenomena are put to good use in manufacturing. The chemo mechanical mechanisms of tribocorrosion are still incompletely understood, they involve the properties of contacting material surfaces, the mechanics of the contact and the corrosion conditions (D Landolt, 2006). The tribocorrosion example clearly illustrates how climate could directly affect the electronics industry. Topographic considerations are also directly linked to this industry. The incorrect topographic location chosen for a factory or distribution center could cause millions in loses to the industry. • 8. Creating A Centralized Collection Of Information About Our... Section One In 1995 with the emergence of the Internet as a powerful tool that was clearly here to stay, a project began to create a centralized collection of information about our nation s wilderness. Before the proposal of the Wilderness Information Network, information on the wilderness was spread across multiple sites controlled by different branches of the government that held relevant information. The Wilderness Information Network (WIN) sought to unite the information in a way that the general public, wilderness visitors, scientists, managers, educators, legislators, and government agents would all be able to make productive use of the available information, which would be provided by the National Park Service, Bureau of Land... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the Park Service s representative on the steering committee for the project, found this to be duplicative. The representative, Wes Henry, believed that any information sought by the WIN was available through Park.Net, the National Park Service s (NPS) operational webpage. He believed that the WIN would be placing extra burden on Park managers, seeking the extra effort in an attempt to gain irrelevant or ill thought out information. This begs the question: How could the WIN move forward without the NPS, which oversaw 42%, the greatest percentage under a single agency, of wilderness land? The key actors in the problem on the WIN would be the government agencies comprising the steering committee and their representatives, and while three institutions in Missoula, MT served as the driving force behind the project (the University of Montana, the Aldo Leopold Wilderness Research Institute and the Arthur Carhart National Wilderness Training Center), they were a part of the National Wilderness Preservation System that was made up of the four federal agencies. But the main theme in the book and the play is murder . The whole play revolves around this mysterious murder, eventually we find out that the murder revolves around money. It shows us that people will do anything and everything in the pursuit for money. The play has a universal theme, meaning that everyone could relate to it. Not everyone has killed someone to get money, but everyone can understand the lengths some people go to obtain what is not rightfully theirs, especially money. The style of the murder mystery is cosy . This means that this style of murder is not as horrifying or violent as some other murders. The violence is toned down and is not as terrifying because it is treated in a humorous way. Cosy murder mysteries aren t filled with blood and gore so you could easily watch or read this type of murder without getting completely scared. Agatha Christie used cosy murder mysteries a lot in her books and it considered the cosy queen . A Murder Is Announced also addresses the idea of class and status. Brazil has reportedly dropped 14 billion on the World Cup alone, the money spent on the World Cup has gone to stadiums and and all aid for the event. The Brazilians living in the favelas who are revolting are not bad people, they just aren t being treated the way people are supposed to be treated. With no other way to express their anger towards their government, they lash out. This is not right, but is it wrong to express yourself? These riots are due to the overall mistreatment of the people in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. Brazil was not ready to say the least. I am not saying Rio is not a great place to visit, they just were not ready. They were unprepared for both the Olympics and World Cup. They had to build stadiums fastly and they had to deal with the outbreak of their own people. Brazil ran into these problems just like any other country does that holds a worldwide major sporting event. The best two examples to compare to Brazil are Sochi in 2014 and Beijing in 2008. Sochi 2014 was not as bad as Brazil, but the preparations were morally questionable when it came to some strategies. The Russian Government, however, was preparing for seven years for the olympics in sochi, Brazil has been for only four years. Brazil is not ready to say the least, but even with so much time some things happened that still were not so humane. Overall, Sochi was much more of a success when it came to preparing for the olympics. In Sochi, there were wild dogs everywhere in the streets. This fiasco with clearing the streets of dogs ... The goal is to expose the truth about the lives of many women and men in the nineteenth century and how challenging it really is. There is an infinite amount of literary devices, including imagery, to show the reality of society s situation back in the 18th century within the story. In, The Story of an Hour, her main idea/theme is the pure formality of Freedom and Confinement for women through marriage. Within creating imagery, there is robust continuously throughout the story itself. Accordingly, she gives the reader a sense of Mrs. Mallard s new life through the view of an open window. Nevertheless, she wants her audience to experience what Mrs.Mallard was so that the readers will fully understand the severity of women s situations then and now who have to go through the pain that Mrs.Mallard did every single day. Bob Marley once said that, Beginnings are usually scary, and endings are usually sad, but it s everything in between that makes it all worth living, and in Mrs.Mallard s case, that reigns true. The emotions she feels when she liberates from her tight chains of marriage became the reason she wants to live and to keep moving forward. • 13. The Cultural Identity Of The African American Community The African American community has sat at the end of a discriminatory lens from the moment they set foot in the United States. For that reason, black communities have undergone the process of community building to ensure that all members feel a sense of belonging. Race, gender, nationality, ethnicity, poverty, and sexual orientation , all play a role in developing one s identity and more often than not, these multiple identities intersect with blackness. Being that American society has deemed colored people and populations as minoritarian subjects, African diaspora people can be seen making safe spaces for themselves to survive as individuals and as a part of communities. Stuart Hall s Cultural Identity and Diaspora focuses on the current issues of identity, cultural practices and cultural representations. He analyses the visual representations of Afro Caribbean s and challenges the notions of identity from African and European places. Hall then goes on to explain how Caribbean cinema has chosen to both, refute and embrace European influence. He presents two different forms of thinking about cultural identity. In the first position, Hall defines cultural identity in terms of one, shared culture, which people with a shared history and ancestry hold in common. The first model uses stable, unchanging and continuous frames of reference and meanings to present the idea of shared culture, history, and ancestry rooted beneath more superficial imposed selves (Hall, 223). ... Father Paneloux Religion In his novel The Plague, Albert Camus conveys through Father Paneloux s character that an idealistic, man made paradise does not prevent groundless contexts from unfolding; thus, religion ineffectively evades the Absurd, but bolsters the illogical thinking that it is escapable. Father Paneloux reinforces the theory that God bestowed the plagueon the citizens of Oranas a punishment for their sins; he expands that this penalty forces the citizens to confront the ultimate test: whether to accept God or not. In order to rationalize the case of an innocent child s death, Father Paneloux explains to the congregation that God s plan includes suffering; therefore, if it was God s will, [they], too should will it (225). Because priests dedicate their whole entity to God, Father Paneloux refuses to develop close relationships or seek for medical assistance because it was against his principles (234). He embraces his death if it supports God s divine plan, and as a result, his condition worsens. However, his doctrines do not cure him of his anonymous disease, and his rejection for aid only contributes to the Absurd. Father Paneloux s death validates Camus message that religion acts like a fruitless safe haven from the incongruous situations that the citizens in Oran do not wish to confront. • 17. Personal Goals And Abilities Of A Social Enterprise According to (Young, 2008) A social enterprise is thought to be something new and something distinct from classical business and traditional non profit activity, combining at different extents elements of the social purpose, the market orientation and financial performance standards of business . When looking at starting up a social enterprise there are important points that need to be looked at the help ensure the enterprise is successful. Firstly before the start up of a social or technological enterprise there are issues that have to be assessed, these are personal goals and abilities, resource availability and opportunity (Schaper, Volery, Weber Gibson, 2014). The personal goals and abilities of a social enterprise are to address social and environmental problems, mostly looking at the root of a market, also aiming for the majority of profits to be reinvested back into the enterprise this will increase social purpose. A standard enterprise is usually more concerned in earning profits for the shareholders and owners (Social Enterprise UK, 2012). Resource availability is another issue that has to be assessed before starting a social enterprise, more specifically entry costs and exit costs. In New Zealand the social finance sector is significantly under developed and as a result of this it makes social enterprise start up very difficult, therefore initial financing has to come from New Zealanders own personal pockets until some sort of funding is found (Schaper, ... The play follows Annie Sullivan, a half blind northern young woman, as she travels to Post Civil War Tuscumbia, Alabama in order to teach Helen Keller, a blind and deaf little girl. When she arrives in Alabama, Annie meets Helen s family members; her father, Captain Keller, is a stubborn, commanding former Civil War captain and her mother, Kate Keller, is a young, overly protective woman, both of them have kept Helen almost as a pet because they did not know what to do with her or how to treat her. Annie thinks that this love and pity from Kate is Helen s worst handicap because it prevents her from learning language and keeps Helen closed off from the world around her. Kate s desire to make Helen happy on her first night back blinds Kate to the realization that if she allows Helen misbehave even once, the progress that Helen has made in the time she spent with Annie in the garden house will diminish and Annie will have to start teaching Helen all over again. Annie knows that if Helen realizes that she can get away with misbehaving, now that she is reunited with her family, she will revert back to her old ways and continue misbehaving. • 23. The Courtroom Trial That Can Affect The Verdict Verdicts There are numerous factors in a courtroom trial that can significantly affect the verdict reached by jurors and can potentially influence whether the perpetrator of crime is ultimately convicted or is acquitted. In this essay I will explore several of these factors including how the personal characteristics of the defendant (e.g. attractiveness, gender and race) persuasion techniques (e.g. order of testimony) and jurycharacteristics can determine the conviction of a criminal. Psychological research has shown that the attractiveness can influence jury decisions with studies demonstrating an attractive bias in that attractive defendants tend to receive more lenient sentences for similar crimes carried out by less attractive people. For example, Castellow et al (1990) aimed to test the effect of the attractiveness of a defendant on guilty verdicts. This was done by conducting a lab experiment in which 145 students were given details of a sexual harassment case and then shown images of a defendant victim. These images had been previously categorised as attractive/unattractive by a panel as perceptions of attractiveness are mainly consistent between genders and races (Eisenthal et al. 2006). It was found that the combination of an attractive victim unattractive defendant created the highest percentage of guilty verdicts (83%) when they were asked whether the defendant was guilty of sexual harassment. These are the common characteristics of an Anglo Saxon hero. Anglo Saxon heroes display some or all of these attributes, which help distinguish them as a hero. Much like Batman and Superman or other heros of modern day, Anglo Saxon heroes protect the public against evil foes, or perhaps Villains. They act courageously and selflessly, without seeking personal gain. Also, they possess an overwhelming sense of duty to protect those in need. Furthermore, Superheros are loyal to those they serve, whether it be their lord, or the Lord. With all these characteristics in mind, the character of Beowulfcan clearly be seen as an Anglo Saxon hero. Specifically, his overwhelming bravery, loyalty, and sense of duty establish him as an Anglo Saxon hero. First of all, Beowulf is the pure embodiment of bravery. A man who drove five great giants into chains, chased all of that race from the earth , and also swam in the blackness of night, hunting monsters out of the ocean and killing them one by one , is clearly the bravest man alive, bar none. Furthermore, even before he slayed Grendel, Grendel s mother, and the Dragon, Beowulf already had a reputation as one of the bravest men in the word. • 30. Chemical Weathering Lab Report Jerry Valente Earth Science 1 11/10/17 Chemical Weathering Background Information Chemical weathering occurs when the erosion of rocks and the disintegration of rocks are caused by chemical reactions with water and substances dissolved in it. This can occur in places where rainfall is common, it occurs more rapidly at higher temperatures. Since high temperatures and damp areas cause the chemical weathering process to increase, you can infer that chemical weathering occurs more frequently in the spring. There are different types of chemical weathering, the three big ones being solution, hydrolysis, and oxidation. Solution weathering occurs when sulphuric acid in the air mixes with rainwater turning it into acid rain. This is most common in highly polluted areas such as China which is a very big country with a lot of cities and rural manufacturing plants. Acidic rain can remove /damage rocks, limestone is especially vulnerable to weathering by rain water containing CO2. The next type, hydrolysis weathering, breaks down rocks by acidic water to produce clay and a soluble salt. The only rock not affected by hydrolysis is quartz. In Judith Butler s Gender Trouble, she identifies a need for a new interpretation of gender against the previous regime of gender hierarchy and compulsory heterosexuality. In this essay, I will argue that Judith Butler s approach to genderpolitics is an improvement on previous attitudes towards homophobia. I will do this through a close contextual reading of Butler s work, particularly Gender Trouble and her article Imitation and Gender Insubordination. Butler calls for a more fluid, variable interpretation of gender that would strive for a new equality where subjects are not restricted to notions of masculinity or femininity . Butler herself argues that gender is performance and is false, and this act of doing is just a social construct. This then calls into question what the alternatives can be, and this essay will argue these improvements on attitudes towards homosexualityrequires a deconstruction of attitudes towards gender. It will argue this through, firstly, establishing that a patriarchal societal regime with a mind towards procreation has the expectation of conformity to binary gender roles in place. From this, it can be drawn that sexual preference is inherently linked to gender construction, which needs to be challenged. And then from these first two premises it guides us to question what the binaries of male or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Fitting In Short Story During HP English I have read four different short stories by various authors. These stories have many differences like race, gender, age, and social class. But even thought there are many differences in the stories, the biggest similarity they all share is that all four stories are about fitting in the American society. This is an important theme to me since I am starting as a first generation college freshman at Saint Mary s. So coming into this new school I will have to learn how to fit in with the society of the school just as the characters in each of the four stories try to fit in their own environment. Everyone has to go through some type of fitting in when they enter a new environment. But how a person reacts to the process of fitting... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This story is about a female writer who grows up in a Mexican family in America. Her family follows the Mexican tradition of women needing to find husbands and become housewives. Cisneros does not follow this tradition and gets her education, but her family does not approve. Even though Cisneros is a successful writer, all she wanted was to fit in with her father and 6 brothers who he valued so much. She had difficulty fitting in because her family did not see her as equal. When Cisneros graduated from college her father s reaction was, and still no husband, my father shakes his head even now and says I wasted all that education (Cisneros 13). Her father did not value her successful college education at all just because she did not get a husband there. But when Cisneros s eldest brother graduated her father was content as show when Cisneros states, When my oldest brother graduated from medical school, he fulfilled my father s dream that we study hard and use this our heads, instead of this our hands (14). It is hard for Cisneros to fit in her family when she achieved the same amount of success as her brother but her father views it as a waste of time because she is a woman. Due to this inequality she tries fitting in by dedicating all of her writings to her fathers approval. Homelessness Poverty affects more than a child s education, it also impacts where that child might sleep at night. Opponents of the Flag Desecration Amendment, propose reasons that make sense in not passing such an amendment and in doing so would lead to an ultimate betrayal of the freedoms granted to us by the First Amendment. In passing the Flag Desecration Amendment, it would mean that if a person wanted to express political freedom of speech by desecrating the flag they could not. A proposed Amendment would undermine the First Amendment. As Americans we are granted many freedoms and the freedom of speech is a major one, so if congress were to say that a person could not express themselves and to have it in writing then what else would change. Opponents also make a point that flag burning is rare. They say that is doesn t happen every year, but when it has that it was to express political speech as the Supreme Court held in 1989. Opponents also say that once freedoms such as this be taken away then what s to say what else congress will regulate and subject to violations. Anna Ross, form the How a Member Decides to Vote module mentions, that while it might make us mad to see our flag being desecrated, it is not good enough reason to weaken one of the most important principals of democracy. China is one of the fastest growing economy in the world. Many researchers used factionalism as a means to define Chinese foreign policy because of the conflict among the top leaders during the revolutionary period. Chinese foreign policy has become more pragmatic and sophisticated. By joining the World Trade Organization, the country increased its participation in the global economy (Hao, Y., Hou, Y, 2009).My research topic is on the Chinese foreign policy towards North East Asian countries. This paper concentrates on the Chinese foreign relations with North East Asian countries like Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Russia (Zhao, Q, 1997) The author used three key words to understand the Chinese foreign policy i.e., modernization, nationalism and regionalism. Modernization is important for the entire task as it is essential for solving both the domestic and external problems of the country. Nationalism is one of the major sources behind Chinese foreign relations. China s nationalism focuses more on the Chinese foreign policy studies. Regionalism means China is having a power to concentrate on the political, economic and military activities .These three trends influence the Chinese foreign policies .People of Republic China is regarded as regional power. Wildfire Effects Whitebark pine (Pinus albicaulis) is a keystone species (Tomback et al. 2001), forming subalpine and treeline forests that supply food and shelter for hundreds of plant and animal species. This trait makes whitebark pine a quintessential high elevation conifer and it forms unique habitat types with both geographic and successional variation that support considerable biodiversityacross the higher mountains of the United states and Canada. (Tomback et al. 2001, Tomback and Achuff 2010). Whitebark pineis a foundation species. Wildfire and prescribed burns have a variety of impacts on wildlife and habitats, both direct and indirect (Wasserman 2015). Direct effects include fatality, emigration out of burned areas, immigration into new areas. Indirect effects is changes in vegetative structure, diversity, species composition, and other components of their habitat. Species responses to wildfire depends on these direct and indirect effects of fire and how fire regimes and fire severity impacted the landscape (FulГ© et al. 2003, Reynolds et al. 2013). Herbivores, such as elk, deer, and bighorn sheep, respond in post fire wilderness due to the open dense canopies that allow an increase in understory plants that herbivores feed on (Bailey and Whittam 2002). For example, elk prefer forage quality that provide their required calorie intake to allow them to successfully produce milk. During early succession, mid succession, and late succession of post fire habitat, forage quality is at its highest during early succession stages in both mesic and xeric sites (Swanson et al. 2011). This suggest that herbivores, like elk, would utilize these early succession post fire areas. Carnivores and mesocarnivores respond to post fire changes as well. Male american black bears and grizzly bears used burned sites increasing their home range post fire. Canids, such as the coyote, use both burned and unburned areas due to food availability (Cunningham et al 2002). The Mount Washburn sites are in landscapes that experienced high severity fires and have an abundance of whitebark pine deadfall in the area. This overabundance of deadfall might detter larger herbivores and carnivores decreasing wildlife species diversity. Wildlife species diversity is an intuitive way to determine an ecosystem s health and status (Edwards and Abivardi 1998). Importance Of Moral Education In To Kill A Mockingbird In Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus Finch reveals moral education to his children as well as to others in Maycomb through his sympathy, diplomacy and morality. The author demonstrates moral education through Atticus one way in the novel is through the sympathy he conveys to those around him. Lee provides examples of this character when Scout is informing the reader of what Atticus is doing as they walk ahead of her and Dill on their way back home from finding Atticus and a lynch mob outside of the Maycomb County Jail: Atticus and Jem were well ahead of us, and I assumed that Atticus was giving him hell for not going home, but I was wrong...Atticus reached out and massaged Jem s hair, his one gesture of affection (Lee 157). Although Jem does not follow Atticus s orders while at the jail because he is worrying about his father s safety, Atticus does not get made and scold him. Instead, Atticus is understanding of Jem and is somewhat proud of his son for standing up for what is right against the racist lynch mob seeking Tom Robinson. This characteristic can also be seen while Scout is describing the town of Maycomb, her family s history, as well as her relationship with her family members to the readers: Jem and I found our father satisfactory: he played with us, read to us, and treated us with courteous detachment (Lee 10). Analysis Of The Book The Wealth Of Nations Essay Mason Bendigo Professor Moressi Principles of Management 15 September, 2016 History of Management: Paper 1 Many people have their fingerprints on what is known as management today. Just as everything else it started from ground zero with a lot of trial and error. Over the years brilliant people such as Adam Smith and countless others have etched into history that best way to manage, whether on a small or large scale. The wake of these people is still being seen today in upcoming companies such as Zappos, who brings fresh and new twists to management as a whole. Management has evolved over the years and will continue to as people and procedures do as well. March 9, 1776 marked the date that Adam Smith wrote his widely known book The Wealth of Nations . The book s original name is An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations, however it is not recognized by the majority public as so. Smith originally wrote the novel to dismember the thought that mercantilism was a good idea. Only selling goods and gaining nothing from trade in return proved in many cases to not be effective.. Smith wrote of the Invisible Hand which claimed that people, by human nature, look out for their best interest and that in doing so they unknowingly help the economy. • 48. Critical Analysis Of Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken Critical Analysis of Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken The speaker in Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken gives the reader insight into human nature with each line of poetry. While, Frost had not originally intended for this to be an inspirational poem, line by line, the speaker is encouraging each reader to seek out his or her own personal path in the journey of life. Romanticizing the rural woods of New England creates the perfect setting for the theme of self discovery laid out and described by the speaker. Robert Frost s original intent in writing the poem was not to convey the inspiration that it has for almost a hundred years. He had written the poem to poke fun at his friend, Edward Thomas, with whom he had taken many walks. Thomas was hesitant and always wondering what would happen if he had chosen a different path (http://www.yoga.com/raw/readings/frost_road.html). In fact, Frost sent the poem to his friend, then in France, and got the response, ?What are you trying to do with me?? (http://www.libarts.sfasu.edu/Frost/PopPoems.html). However, Frost did see the impact the poem was having and stated, Do not follow where the path may lead?Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. The speaker communicates many things in the first stanza of the poem. The first line, ?Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,? uses imagery with the color yellow, the color of gold, to show that the speaker sees an opportunity ahead of him. The two roads symbolizes the choices and consequences he must choose. The next line, ?And sorry I could not travel both,? illustrates how difficult it is to make a choice. It is impossible not to wonder what could happen by choosing the other road and what he could be missing out on. ?And being one traveler long I stood,? shows how the speaker would like to be in two places at once. Unable to accomplish this, he takes a long time to decide on what he should do. Finally, the speaker describes studying the first option, looking as far into the future as he possibly could with the lines, ?And looked down one as far as I could to where it bent in the undergrowth.? The speaker continues to convey his message in the second stanza of ?The Road Not Taken.? In the opening line of this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
