The Unified Effect In The Fall Of The House Of Usher
During the whole of a dull, dark, and soundless day in the autumn of the year, (412) is the first
sentence in The Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Allan Poe. This beginning sentence sets the tone
of dark. Gothic Literature s style has elements of fear, horror, gloomy and death; it gives the feeling of
suspense and fear. This story is a great example of Gothic Literature. In this story the narrator goes to
Usher s house, which is mysterious, and becomes aware that the house is like Usher who is sick. Poe s
technique of the unified effect accomplishes its intended purpose through the setting, plot
development and imagery. One way Poe accomplished the unified effect was by the way he described
the setting. Poe used very descriptive words, Feeble gleams of encrimsoned light made their way
through the trellised panes, and served to render sufficiently distinct the more prominent objects,
(416). This sentence gives a certain dark tone Poe was achieving. This simply means that a dim,
reddened light was shining only on the important objects. The light being encrimsoned suggest that
there is blood or death. This is foreshadowing the ending of the story which contributes to the plot
development for Poe s technique. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He foreshadows many times throughout the story and creates suspense from the plot. One example of
foreshadowing, and I learned that the glimpse I had obtained of her person would thus probably be the
last I should obtain that the lady, at least while living, would be seen by me no more, (418). This tells
us that this would be the last time the narrator would see the lady and that she would be dead by the
end. On top of that, this lets the readers know that there is death involved, gives the feeling of
suspense, which helps with imagery, and sets a dark

Los Angeles, Five High Schools Essay
Throughout many cities, in specifically Los Angeles, five high schools were faced with
discrimination. Lincoln, Garfield, Wilson, Belmont, Roosevelt high schools was targeted in many
racist ways. These high schools had restricted rules towards students. Majority of the student
populations in these schools were Latinxs. They faced problems that were not as necessary
problematic. According to Jose Angel Gutierrez, English was the only language allowed spoken in the
classroom and schoolyard. Severe punishment awaited the bold who uttered their native Spanish
language within earshot of school officials (2). Students were forbidden to speak Spanish during
school hours. Students were forbidden from using the bathroom, especially during lunchtime. Students
were denied to be taught their Mexican American history. Students were mostly being led into the
labor industry instead of going to college and getting a degree. According to E. Esparza (2006), We
had a huge conference that summer of 1967, in which college students there were a couple of hundred
came together from throughout Southern California. It was basically almost everyone who was in
college then, because there was less than 2% of all Chicanos that even enrolled in college . Students
were discriminated by many teachers and administrators. Administrators were not responsible and
repeatedly called out, leaving small staff to teach the students. Students did not only receive these
discriminatory actions, they also

Assignment 2 Sex Offenders
After criminals pay their debt to society, many criminals will start a fresh life, those convicted of
felons are limited to job selection, they lose the ability to vote and if they are a sex offender then they

Strong Work Ethic
Throughout my educational career I have learned the importance of a strong work ethic. In middle
school I was able to accomplish all of my school work, take advanced classes, maintain grades above
a C average, and take part in after school activities without much effort. High School on the other
hand, forced me to mature and develop a work ethic to succeed as a student. Maintaining, the same
GPA, I balance acting and directing for my school s theater company, volunteering as a part of the
National Honor Society, being involved in International Club and Student Council, working part time
at my local library, and excelling in Advanced Placement classes. With so many obligations, sound

Indian Removal Speech
Mr. President, Members of Congress I am a Cherokee Indian name Lauren who was removed from my
house from my land with my family. I was born and raised on that land that I instantly fell in love with
and never thought in a few years I would be removed from my home and forced to move somewhere
else forever! This shouldn t be happening to us, we are humans just like all of you here today that we
should be treating each other with respect and happiness. Me and my family and friends don t deserve
this kind of respect thats getting thrown at us nor should we be forced and pushed around to move
somewhere and know that our land will be owned by someone else. For this reason we as Cherokee
Indians should get our land back and unite together and live normal again.
I am here today in my family s respect that some of them died during the march. I m proud to stand
here today in front of you guys today to try and get our land back and return to our homes. My family,
my friends, my people knew that this day will come but we thought we could fight back. That did not
work out for us after the deadline. When we were forcefully removed out of our homes, put into cattle
pits in the pouring cold rain, and had to march through the cold winter snow were we had to burry a
lot of my people and close ones. I have always wanted to know what Georgia wanted from us or our
land. But from one thing I know or heard it was a large land for them that they found value in our land

The red wolves are an endangered species. Right now they are only 45 60 left the wild. If people don t
do something soon they might become completely extinct.
Red wolves are very similar to the coyotes. As their name name suggests the have red coat but also a
little brown mixed into it. They are the smaller and leaner version of their cousin, the grey wolf. They
are native to the southeast region of North America. Red wolves are mostly found in forest and
swamps but can survive mostly anywhere in the southeast. They are a carnivorous species and their
diet ranges from small rodents to white tailed deer. If they can not find anything else they have been to
eat berries and insects to survive. Red wolves breed once a year during January through February.

They can also breed with coyotes because their DNA is so similar. Both of the parents care for their
young after they are born. The pups leave the den by the time they are 6 weeks old, they reach full size
by the time they are one and can reproduce by the time they are two. Red wolves have many different
adaptations. During the summer they lose their coats and during the winter they grow them back. By
doing this so they can keep cool during the summer and be warm in the winter. They have sharp teeth
that help them catch and eat their prey. Another adaptation of the red wolves is that they can survive
having heartworms. To help them thrive in their habitats they stay in packed. This aids them in
hunting, defensing, and surviving. Red wolves in the wild face many challenges such as over hunting
and loss of habitat. During the 1960 many hunter thought red wolves were dangerous and over hunted
them. The wolves habitat have also been destroyed leaving very few left in the wild today. After being
declared endangered in the 1970s, recovery programs have been created to help save the red wolves.

Motivation For Witchcraft
Throughout the sixteenth and seventeenth century, witchcraft was widespread throughout various
areas of the world. Today, witchcraft may be subtly displayed in children s books, where a witch often
an elderly woman is shown travelling by broomstick or casting evil spells. Back then, people held
allegations against others for using this black magic, and, in turn, some societies conducted
persecutions against such individuals. These persecuted, and often executed individuals, were often
said to be using their evil in worship of the Devil. Now that we see these ideas of black magic in
children s books, it may appear that these witch panics were extreme. Before we make assumptions
about the accusers of witches, we must consider further details in attempt to understand their
underlying motivations to accept witchcraft beliefs. As Darren Oldridge argues, there may be multiple
factors for this acceptance of witchcraft beliefs. One motivation that is evident is the absorption of
power among the persecutors. Through time, since the start of witchcraft, witches became responsible
for more and more issues, reflecting the span of influence persecutors held. It is important to consider
the beginning of witchcraft prevalence. Since witchcraft allegations were often associated with the
Devil, it must have been a Christian phenomenon. In Europe, where many witch trials took place,
Christianity was extremely prevalent in the late Middle Ages and the early modern period. Therefore,

The System Failures From Limited Funding
Levee System Failures from Limited Funding Abstract Hurricane Katrina was one of the most
damaging hurricanes in the U.S. history. This disaster was not only due to natural causes, but to the
catastrophic levee failure resulting from the storm surge. The public widely reprimanded the U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) afterwards since they built the New Orleans Levee System.
However, the Corps of Engineers was unable to rebuild the outdated levee system due to lack of
federal funding. This paper will focus on how President George. W. Bush and Congress were culpable
for not providing enough funding for the proposed flood protection projects. While both the president
and Congress were at fault, this paper is directed towards Congress ... Show more content on

Army Corps of Engineers, requested the federal government to fund New Orleans Levee remedial
projects. Yet, Congress provided a negligibly small amount of funding. Admittedly, the U.S. Army
Corps of Engineers (USACE) was directly culpable for building an unreliable levee system, but it is
President George. W. Bush and Congress s fault that there was not enough funding for them to build
the system. In the process of determining the annual budget, the president first proposes the budget
according to recommendations from government agencies, such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Then, the proposal is sent to Congress to make the final decision. Since the President and Congress
work together to complete the budget, both President Bush and Congress cannot escape blame for
making a bad decision to underfund the levee remedial projects. In this case, both the U.S. President
and Congress violated rights ethics and utilitarianism. To prevent this kind of unethical decision
making from happening again, Congress should (1) adhere to rights ethics by considering suggestions
besides the budget proposal (2) pertain to utilitarianism by employing specialists to calculate the pure
financial outcomes. Long before the disaster in 2005, many signs herald that a flood was going to
happen in New Orleans. In New Orleans history, several catastrophic hurricanes swept the land and
caused floods to inundate the city.

Spiritual Awakening During The Great Awakening
Spiritual vs Political
When people think of the Great Awakening they think of an animated spiritual uprising in the 1700s.
Is the spiritual awakening of America the most significant part of the Great Awakening? The Great
Awakening was a spiritual awakening during the 1730s through the 1770s, reaching its height in the
1740s. Taking place in both England and the colonies, George Whitefield, Jonathan Edwards,
Theodore Frelinghuysen, and Gilbert Tennent were the distinguished preachers. Although these men
preached to thousands, the main way people heard about Christianity was through their friends.
Whitefield and his fellow preachers taught about a new concept: faith which was not solely based on
works. Before the Great Awakening, a spiritual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They argue that the spiritual impact was momentous because church membership increased during the
Great Awakening. Between 25,000 and 50,000 new Christians were added to the churches in [New
England] whose total population was then about 300,000. (Clouse 92) However, this idea is invalid
because church membership returned to its previous numbers after the Great Awakening. The gain in
church membership was not significant in the long term as there were many false conversions during
the Great Awakening which diminished its [spiritual] influence. (Clouse 93)
Additionally, people argue that, as a result of newfound religious freedom, the government no longer
mandated personal beliefs. This is also untrue. Even today, the courts establish laws that govern moral
issues. Recent examples of this are the recent passage of a federal law that allows homosexual
marriage and the resulting incarceration of Kim Davis, a county clerk in Kentucky, who opposed the
law.
Neither of these arguments are sufficient to prove that spiritual is greater than

The Pros And Cons Of Lesbianism In Audre Lorde
Lesbian, a term originating in the late 19th century, that describes homosexual women. In simpler
words, a lesbian is a woman identified woman who is either sexually, or emotionally attracted to other
woman identified women. Identifying as a lesbian means preparing yourself to be accepted by some of
society, while looked down upon and ridiculed by others, it can mean different things for different
individuals, but one thing remains the same, being lesbian comes with certain experiences, both good
and bad that you otherwise would not experience. The whole lesbian discussion becomes more
complex as we add in different intersections ranging from class, social status, to race. This brings up
the whole concept of intersectionality which describes multiple layers of oppression that exposes
individuals to systems of discrimination and leaves them at a disadvantage. However, intersectionality
is a conversation that could continue on for eternity probably introducing more interdependent
systems than the ones I mentioned. Due to the complexity of the matter, I would like to focus on and
explore just one of the intersections of lesbians that I find most intriguing: lesbians in relation to race.
Being a Black lesbian helps shape many individuals into who they are. The black lesbian experience
most certainty helped shape Audre Lorde, and developed her into the women that she came to be.
In order to clearly analyze how the black lesbian experience shaped Lorde, I am going to be focusing

Biochemical Reaction Lab
The purpose of this lab is to discover how changes in temperature can affect enzyme activity.
All walks of life, from humans to plants, are living because of biochemical reactions. Biochemical
reactions are processes that occur on a cellular level and are responsible for sustaining life:
Photosynthesis, Cellular Respiration, Digestion, etc. Within these reactions, molecules change their
identity and transform into new molecules. In the middle of these molecular transformations are
enzymes (sites.com).
Mostly made of protein, enzymes help catalyze chemical reactions quicker by lowering the cell s
activation energy to complete a reaction, all while keeping its shape. A molecule or substrate will bind
with an enzyme on its active site and reactants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The prediction of minimum activity occurring in 0° C and a maximum activity in 37° C was also
supported.
Through this lab it is easier to see when enzymes are at their weakest and their strongest. Within the
body an enzyme is most efficient at a comfortable 37° C. For Catalase, its job in a perfect environment
includes breaking down millions of hydrogen peroxide molecules every second (rcsb.org). As the
temperature was increased, the reacting molecule H2O2 gained more kinetic energy, increasing the
rate of bonds with the Catalase molecule and oxygen production.
Every enzyme has its point of no return. During denaturation the enzyme s protein structure collapses
and loses its job specific shape. When this happens, its active site also loses shape; therefore, leaving a
warped or completely disappeared active site for the substrate/reactant to collide and terminating the
enzyme s ability to function (Taylor 2009). With Catalase, its ceiling of temperature was 55° C as its
rate of oxygen production decreased immensely and was less than half measured in 0° C test

Freud s Developmental Stages Essay
Freud held strong beliefs about the roles of sex, procreation and the death drive within human
psychological development and developmental problems.
A brief summary of Freudian developmental stages:
Birth 1 year: Oral Stage.
This stage is concerned with the mouth and how the baby feeds i.e. sucking and is weaned on and
from mothers milk. He called this libido and refers to it as the driving force.
When the baby changes from sucking to biting this indicates the time for weaning and the next stage
which is solid food.
Freud believes that if this is done to abruptly it can cause trauma and inhibit healthy progression.

1 3 years: The Anal stage. â€oeWhere gratification is derived from gaining control over withholding
or eliminating faeces†Dryden s
Handbook of Individual Therapy pg 32
This stage is concerned with child s need to do things on their own terms, the conflict arises for them
where they have a need to assert their own will but also crave parental approval, this time can produce
a battle of wills between parent and child.
Age 3 6 years: The phallic stage.
At the core of this stage we see the child begin to learn about other people around them and the roles
they play, as children often learn by mimicking or copying they begin to do that with the same sex role
models according to Freud, although in the modern world this is not so clear cut as there are many
single sex parents and same gender parents raising families, which back then would not have been
accepted.
However, as the child becomes more aware of their genitals they will become increasingly curious
about sexual differences.
This is a very important stage in psychological development. There are some differing accounts about
what the Oedipal complex truly represents but it is clear it is a time of confusion for a

What Are The Positive Effects Of Industrialization On...
In the first place there were many positive and negative effects on Industrialization. However,
Industrialization had a greater positive effect on society, although some might argue that
Industrialization had a primarily negative effect on society because of a bad work environment and
unhealthy working conditions. However it was actually a positive effect on society because of a ready
workforce, faster production of goods, increase of trade, and better financial opportunities. However
due to a ready workforce, this showed a positive impact on businesses and society. For example in
document 1 a 16 year old girl, Mary Paul, explains how Lowell is the best place of her, and that if any
girl wants employment, I advise them to come to Lowell . I perceive from this statement the she was
very happy to work there, therefore it must be a good working environment, which means that the
company must prosper thu bring in a ready workforce because she even advise others to come and
work there. Another example would be in document 2, document 2 has a poem that explains how a
parent never gets to see their child because of long working hours. Although this is a negative effect
on Industrialization, it also has many positive effect to, for example even though the parents have to

Summary Of John Adams Short Ride In A Fast Machine
John Adams is an American composer, best known for his operas, the symphonic fanfare Short Ride in
a Fast Machine, and the Pulitzer Prize winning work, On the Transmigration of Souls. He was born in
Massachusetts, graduated with a BA and a MA from Harvard, and taught at the San Francisco
Conservatory. In addition to directing the New Music Ensemble at the conservatory, he also worked in
the electronic music studio. His work has become quite popular, especially Short Ride in a Fast

(Recorded sounds and the names of the victims will reappear throughout the work.) The texts sung by
the chorus and children s chorus are drawn from the heartbreaking missing person notices that sprang
up around the World Trade Center site after the attacks. One of Adams s inspirations for this kind of
layering of various quotations is the early 20th century composer Charles Ives, and he makes this
especially clear by including a long reference to the trumpet solo from Ives s The Unanswered
Question. A long opening section ends with a sudden thinning of the texture, and the sounds of
digging. The music grows threatening and there is quick burst of anger from the orchestra, which just
as quickly subsides into a long choral passage. This reaches an emotional peak with the words I know
just where he is, followed by a ferocious orchestral interlude. The chorus responds with the words
light and love failing at first to stop the orchestra s fury, but the music eventually subsides, and the
work ends with long, quiet, and deeply touching epilogue. The last words we hear I love you. are the
best response of all to tragedy and

For some reason, Becquerel decided to develop his photographic plates anyway. To his surprise, the
images were strong and clear, proving that the uranium emitted radiation without an external source of
energy such as the sun. Becquerel had discovered radioactivity.
Becquerel used an apparatus similar to that displayed below to show that the radiation he discovered
could not be x rays. X rays are neutral and cannot be bent in a magnetic field. The new radiation was
bent by the magnetic field so that the radiation must be charged and different than x rays. When
different radioactive substances were put in the magnetic field, they deflected in different directions or
not at all, showing that there were three classes of radioactivity: negative, positive, and electrically
neutral.
The term radioactivity was actually named by Marie Curie, who together with her husband Pierre,
began investigating the phenomenon recently discovered by Becquerel. The Curies extracted uranium
from ore and to their surprise, found that the leftover ore showed more activity than the pure uranium.
They concluded that the ore contained other radioactive elements. This led to the discoveries of the
elements polonium and radium. It took four more years of processing tons of ore to isolate enough of
each element to determine their chemical properties.
Ernest Rutherford, who did many experiments studying the properties of radioactive decay, named

Faith and Organized Religion Essay
Many skeptics in today s culture are convinced that organized religion does more harm than good.
Many of these people make persuasive arguments that are or can be conclusive. In some cases, they
say, a church, has too much power, is filled with politics and its rituals take away from God and put
emphasis on one s self; therefore, faith is what matters. In the novel A Portrait of The Artist as Young
Man by James Joyce, readers see Stephen go through life with faith, surrounded by others with faith
and religious activities. After a while, Steven loses sight of true faith, forgets God and becomes an
artist.
Faith is defined as the substance of things hoped for, and the evidence of things not seen. Many people
choose to either believe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The preacher then cautiously warns him that participating in this sin will take over his life. After this
confession, he found his faith and became a new man. Stephen began rituals, Sunday was dedicated to
the mystery of the Holy Trinity, Monday to the Holy Ghost, Tuesday to the Guardian Angel...
(Portrait, 103). Stephen immediately jumped from being only concerned with himself, doing nothing
for the Lord and engulfed in sin. Stephen even wore rosary, then at the end he lost faith. Stephen
consumed himself with acts and rituals so much that it could be said he lost faith. The rituals took him
away from God and put emphasis on what he wanted to be, an artist. The rituals of organized religion
pushed him to the edge.
As Stephen was in the transaction of sanctification, he started to go through the motions. Stephen did
everything according to feeling. For example, when he felt like he was not saved, he repented to gain
God s power. A restless feeling of guilt would always be present with him: he would confess, repent,
and be absolved, confess and repent again and be absolved fruitlessly (Portrait, 109). Stephen was
entirely in control of his own thoughts; he knew he could go back to the way he was at any second.
Stephen wanted to be free and to express himself for who he was and not who everyone wanted him to
be. After a long struggle between this ritualistic attitude, he felt tied to the rituals of his religion.

Thr Brazilian Film Industry
Brazil The Brazilian cinema has seen its fair share of highs and lows from 1980 2014. The cinema
success is directly related to the people in power since the cinema is funded through government
subsides. Brazilian producers cant hold a candle to the American cinema, not many can, they tried
making box offices hits. Last year, in 2013, the top 10 films in Brazil were posted and a Brazilian film
was the 3rd American imported films came in the first two. The little victories are important to a
country that has such a free trade market they don t focus on pushing their own cinema. The early
1980 s were a dark time for Brazil. President Figueiredo came into office when debt and
unemployment were at its highest. Also Brazil was in $90million dollar debt. This economic struggle
introduces Brazilian cinema to a new low. By the early 1990 s President Collar opens the market to
free trade. This was to industrialize Brazil, and attempt to cut government spending. Cutting
government spending hurt cinema, which is why there will be a large decline in the early 1990s. By
1992 president Franco came into office. The inflation rate by this time doubled. This was a very bad
time for brazils government. With the economy doing so poorly the urban crime life was high, acting
as a muse for many producers. At this time 40% of the domestic films were documentaries on urban
violence. In the 1980s to produce a film in Brazil is cost about $500,000 in order for the film to pay

The Best Tablets For Drawing
The Best Tablets for Drawing in 2017 Over the years, the appreciation for art has always stayed the
same. We still appreciate Picasso s work. Man indeed doesn t change. But his landscape does. His
tools and his surrounding also have to change to serve him better. An artist is a true observer of life.
As such, he is bound to notice the ever changing quality of life that is more so enhanced by
technology; and then captured by the same technology. The rudimentary drawings of the stone ages
captured life then. Technologically enhanced equipment will help us capture ours. Enter the
technology s provision to modern day art; the drawing tablet. Art supplies have always been generally
expensive. We can confirm the drawing tablet is also not cheap. However, ask any artist today, this
tablet is a necessary tool to keep up with the artistic trends. So what should you be looking for in a
drawing tablet in order to have the best drawing experience? Interface A USB interface is the best in a
drawing tablet as it allows you to use any computer as long as it supports USB. Since the interface is
what allows your tablet to connect with your computer, it is important to note whether your computer

Analysis Of Luncheon On The Grass
Discussion Essay: Luncheon on the Grass (Le Déjeuner sur l herbe) Luncheon on the grass, a painting
that left people of its time stunned was created in 1863 by painter Edouard Manet. This painting was
an Impressionist work that broke the barrier that art should only be made if it respects the established
conventions and attempts to achieve timelessness. The original name for this artwork was The Bath
but it was changed four years later. It is an oil painting on canvas and its size is 208cm x 264.5cm
(81.9 in x 104.1 in) it is a large painting. The color scheme of dark green, brown and black used to it
gives a very earthly sensation. Manet s style of painting was as controversial as his subjects as he ...

All the figures in the painting were real individuals in Manet s life. The man towards the left is
Ferdinand Leenhof who is his soon to be brother in law, the man on the right is his younger brother
Eugene Manet and most importantly the nude woman who left everyone stunned was a female model,
Victorine Meurent, who makes another appearance in Manet s other painting Olympia where once
again she is the topic of debate. As all the figures were recognizable and were portrayed in an explicit
narrative made it even more difficult to be displayed alongside traditional paintings. The painting was
rejected by the official French academy in 1863 because it left the salon jury outraged to how the
woman is being shown in the nude with no shame at all. Although nude women had always been the
subject of classical art the problem here was that she was being depicted as a normal human being.
Her body posture seemed relaxed, by slouching it also creates folds on her stomach. The salon did not
approve as she was displayed as a regular modern day woman who happened to take her clothes off
(you can see her polka dotted dress and hat towards her left) rather than a goddess or mythological
creature. Another problem they had was that she is looking directly into the viewer s eyes with
confidence and self awareness to which people were not

Jung-Typology Personality Assessment
Reflection on the Jung Typology Personality Assessment and DISC Leadership Assessment
While both the Jung Typology and the DISC s assessment varies, mostly the characteristics it read
were seemingly similar. Both tests seem to find my personality to be more introverted and cautious
than extroverted and daring. I believe that these tests are mostly accurate, but have some flaws
intertwined within.
Through the Jung Typology assessment, my results were not surprising and mostly accurate. My
results came back as ISFJ, meaning I am more introverted than extroverted, more sensing than
intuitive, more feeling than sensing, and more judging than perceiving. D. Kiersey mentions that ISFJ

The DISC assessment, similar to the Jung Typology, I felt was not as accurate and I found more to
disagree with. The DISC was more in depth, I thought. The DISC said that I was less decisive,
moderately interactive, highly stable, and extremely cautious. Once again the DISC assessment also
said I would prefer a stable work environment, and I still disagree with that one.
However, I believe it was spot on when it says that I like to analyze a situation before I act on a
decision and I am normally the quiet person in a heated debate. In the interactive category, I was
almost directly in the middle. However, the only true thing in this category is the fact that I prefer to
work alone, the rest were close, but I felt that they were not as explicit at the Jung
Typology. For the stability category, I had a pretty high score, which was not very surprising to me.
This category was pretty accurate, saying that I am patient with a wide variety of people and that I m
not great at letting things go. The cautious category was the highest score (99). This was almost 100%
accurate based on my personality. The only flaw I found was that it said I have

Language Bias
1. When writing a research report, there are five main issues of language bias . They include but, are
not limited to, gender, age, sexuality, ethnicity, and disabilities. Gender is language bias, as it is a
cultural term referring to social roles, which may be perceived as offensive. For example, referring to
a female firefighter as a fireman implies that the female is actually a male firefighter. To avoid this,
writers should ensure that they are using terms to avoid sexist bias. Next, age is language bias as a
writer might think that someone is elderly because they are 50 but in reality, it is not accurate to call
someone elderly until they are 65 or older. Those that are 50 could find this offensive. Thus to avoid
this, a writer should always include an age range or refer to the APA manual when placing people into
age categories. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When talking about sexuality, writers should use words like sexual orientation, as it is not implying
the person chose a certain sexuality. For example, an author should not write about how being a gay
man is a sexual preference, as it seems like it was his choice. More so, ethnicity is also language bias.
It is best to refer to the geographic locations one is from, as ethnic labels can be offensive or harmful.
Writers can avoid using slang language by aiming to identify persons by nation of origin. Lastly,
language objectifying a person s condition or disability is language bias. Language including negative
labels, or slurs should not be used, as they are harmful and offensive. If one needs to write about a
condition, it is advised they place focus on the individual and not the disability. For example, if they
are writing about dyslexia, they could state, persons with dyslexia find it frustrating to do group work

With the advent of modern era, there has been a tangible shift from securing permanent things to

development and betterment. This penchant can be evidently contemplated in the corporate
employees, since the corporate world is swamped with a surfeit of jobs and there are ample chances

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Solar Power
ABSTRACT
Solar power has a vast potential. The industry is to see large growth in the upcoming future. However,
there are technical and cost limitations which hinder solar power s ability to become a more influential
global electricity source. Despite these limitations, solar power is utilized by many. From homes in the
Unites States to developing countries, solar power is making lives and the world a better place.
Governments must see the potential of solar power and push their country s energy needs away from
fossil fuels and towards renewable sources, such as solar power.

fulfill their energy needs. Many turn to solar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
FINDINGS
The largest obstacle solar power has to overcome is cost. Solar power has high startup costs. Stated in
The Future of Solar Energy, Currently, the estimated installed cost per peak watt for a residential PV
system is approximately 80% greater than that for a utility scale plant, with costs for a typical
commercial scale installation falling somewhere in between. These cost estimates often include costs
for inverters, racking and installation hardware, design and installation labor, and marketing, as well
as various regulatory and financing costs (The Future of Solar Energy). Many do not want to pay for
the upfront costs of instillation of solar energy devices when an alternative energy supplier is already
in place. In order to successfully reduce our carbon emissions, governments must become involved.
Federal money must be allotted to the research and development of solar power for it to become a
viable energy source. In doing so solar power will become less privatized and potentially more
affordable. There has been recent growth in the solar energy due to a 50% 70% drop in reported PV
prices (without federal subsidies) per installed peak watt , and a current federal tax subsidy for solar
generation: a 30% investment tax credit (ITC) (The Future of Solar Energy). The reduction of PV
prices and a tax credit is a positive aspect for solar power, but the prices are still too high for the
masses. The value of a renewable energy source is frequently lost when

The Process Of Alternative Dispute Resolution
The process of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is a relatively new phenomena which has
infiltrated contemporary next generation human resource management. As the use of ADR methods
grew, proponents viewed them as promising mechanism s for an abundance of scenarios. Conflict has
and always will be an inherent part of the workplace (Colvin 2003). It is for this reason alternative
conflict resolution has amassed development, especially considering the cost of rigid normative
procedures, with Gibbons (2007, p 7) estimating that employment conflict in the UK costing an
estimated £410 million annually. Conflict is generated when one party perceives that another party has
negatively influenced something the first party cares about (Huczynski and Buchanan 2007, p764). It
is in this context that conflict resolution processes ought to address both the actions and perceptions of
both parties in the dispute in order to garner more successful results (Willmott 1993). Therefore, in
order to achieve this practically a significant shift was required from regular grievance strategies
toward a more flexible and pragmatic system which promotes a positive outcome for both parties
(Gibbons 2007, p 7). All forms of ADR will involve a third party with the role of the third party
contingent on the type of ADR applied .The type of ADR used shall be dictated by the type of dispute,
what stage it is at and ultimately the type of resolution being sought. It is against this backdrop that

The advantages resulting from this incorporation are immeasurable. For example, during a major
hurricane the Social Media Analyst can monitor information involving trapped survivors, areas

will this incorporation save lives, but it will also reduce the amount of property damage that otherwise
would occur. The disadvantages of this incorporation are that existing personnel may feel threatened
by the change, that others will argue that it is too expensive and not worth the monetary expenditure,
and that some may feel it simply will not work better than the existing procedures. Another potential
drawback is failure to avoid biases and mind traps. One example is the confirmation bias or primacy
effect. This occurs when all evidence is examined in the context of confirming an existing belief.
Unfortunately, this occurred in the Iraq WMD scenario whereby everyone thought the weapons

Complexity And Algorithms That Can Take An Impossible...
Complexity and Tractability
The area of tractability explores problems and algorithms that can take an impossible amount of
computation to solve. Tractable problems can be roughly defined as problems that can be solved in a
reasonable amount of time, while intractable problems are those which take too long to solve to be
useful. Finding solutions to these problems is a key problem in computer science today and has been
for many years. It is also important for a computer scientist to recognise intractable problems as it
would be a huge waste of time trying to write a program to an intractable problem. It would be better
to recognise this and take a different more suitable approach that would save time and effort but also
would come up with a valid solution. However there are advantages to making a problem intractable
though as when securing things using intractable codes which cannot be hacked into easily.
Complexity can be simply defined as a rough estimation of amount of time it takes a particular
algorithm to solve a problem. This is not only measured in time but can be expressed as the number of
steps taken in order to solve a problem. It is important to be able to measure the complexity of a
problem as this can help to indicate how good/effective an algorithm will be and whether it is tractable
or not.One of the most popular intractable problems that has been found is the Traveling Salesman
problem. This problem represents a salesman who wants to find the shortest

Literary Devices In A Doll s House
Analysis of Henrik Ibsen s A Doll House
In A Doll House by Henrik Ibsen was created during 1800s time period. This play helps shine a light
on the gender roles of the 1800s while also creating a twist that was uncommon for this period. During
this time period, women were left home to oversee the domestic duties, while men went to commuted
to work (Hughes). Men were seen as physically superior but morally inferior to women; which is also
portrayed within this book (Hughes). This play marks the beginning of Henrik Ibsen s realist period,
which he explored the ordinary lives of small town people (Kirszner and Mandell 881). This modern
tragedy helped make Ibsen famous internationally because of the real life story it captured (Kirszner
and Mandell 882). Henrik Ibsen uses an array of literary devices to help keep the reader captivated
from beginning to end. Three of the most prominent literary devices used by Henrik Ibsen are
symbolism, foreshadowing, and an array of themes. These literary devices help transform a basic play
into a complex story of lies and deception.
Symbolism is used a lot within in the play and is a figure of speech that is used when an author wants
to create a certain mood or emotion in a work of literature (What is Symbolism in Literature?).
Majority of A Doll House is filled with symbolism that creates an intense emotion for the reader. The
setting of the play is around Christmas Day and is approaching New Year s Day. This holds a lot of

Essay On Software Programmers
What They Do
A software developer designs and creates applications that can be used on electronics such as a
computer or smartphone. They will also periodically update applications once they have already been
released in order to improve upon or fix any issues they might have. These people must have a
creative mind in order to concoct an original idea. Software developers begin by making a series of
models or diagrams, such as flowcharts, regarding their idea for an application. Once that is completed
it is then handed over to a programmer who will run a code that fits the idea, and test it. However,
some companies have software developers come up with their own code and test it themselves. These

The median annual pay for an application software developer was $100,080. The highest ten percent
earned more than $157,590, and the lowest 10% earned less than $58,300. Developers typically get
paid a salary, but the median hourly pay comes out to just below $50, at $49.17. Most work full time
at their jobs.
Job Outlook/Opportunities

insurance and reinsurance carriers are also going to need new, innovative software to help manage

The British Army At The Age Of 17 Essay
There was a young guy who joined the British Army at the age of 17 in order to do something with his
life that he believed to be of significance. He wanted to serve Queen and country. He wanted to
experience war. He wanted to fight. He wanted to win. He wanted to be validated as important and
special by others.
After 8 years of voluntary military service, he handed his notice and ended his contract for what he
believed would be a normal life out side of the HM Forces. He wanted a normal life, he wanted some
normal and consistent relationships, and he wanted a normal job and a girlfriend he could see
whenever he wanted.
He wanted to feel valued somewhere, and he wanted to feel important. He wanted to know that he d
be missed somewhere when he wasn t around. He wanted to be his own person and free from small
minded military regimentals, free from the restrictions of rules and conformity to legalism, he wanted
out, he wanted freedom.
He wanted to make progress in life. He wanted to connect with new people and develop new
relationships. He wanted to know love and he wanted to know freedom. He wanted some certainty and
needed to become both confident and secure in who he was. He needed to pay the bills, he needed
some direction and purpose, he needed to make sense of his life, he needed peace from his demons
and the memories of his past.
He needed change, he needed to take risks and step out in faith that even in the midst of uncertainty,
he d be able to develop who he

Critical Points Within The Civil Rights Movement Essay
Gladwell uses many critical points within the Civil Rights Movement to support his claim the most
notable of which is of the Greensboro sit ins. In the early 60s, seventy thousand students, all across the
South and Southwest took part in these revolutionary demonstrations (Gladwell). By this time Jim
Crow laws were well in effect; the South and Southwest were plagued by racial discrimination and
segregation. The consequences of disobeying these laws were brutally severe: unjust arrests, beatings,
lynching s, and even murder were subjected upon the African American community. Oppositionists,
such as the Ku Klux Klan, retaliated in the form of violence and intimidation. Despite the grave risks
involved, demonstrators heeded the call to action because they were deeply and personally connected
to the cause. However, this radical assemblage of protestors did not occur on a whim or by chance.
Instead, it all began when four black college students decided to risk their safety and possibly their
lives by defying the discriminatory beliefs and norms embedded within the fabric of American society.
Joseph McNeil, Franklin McCain, David Richmond, and Ezell Blair were all close friends. They spent
nights together chugging beers and woefully discussed the injustices that pervaded their lives. These
interactions were personal, direct, and intimate. Their interactions were not limited by the obscurities
of text messaging, emoticons, acronyms, or ominous punctuations. Likewise, their

Correspondence Between Vocal and Musical Emotion
Throughout history and across cultures, language and music prevail as defining characteristics of
humanity. This unique status as species specific traits has inevitably prompted a great deal of cross
domain comparisons, and much research has gone into identifying both similarities and differences
between the two systems (Patel 2008: 3). Intonation, or speech melody , has been hailed as the point at
which language and music meet (Bolinger 1972: 261). A frequently discussed yet under researched
aspect of this affiliation is the expression and communication of emotion. Though the possibility of
correspondence between vocal and musical emotion has concerned philosophers for centuries, due to
the interdisciplinary nature of the topic it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sincerity of an emotional expression is appraised in terms of this conflict the closer a signal comes
to being determined by push effects, the more genuine it is taken to be (for example, a scream of pain
is interpreted as more true than a stereotyped vocal emblem such as ouch ) (Johnstone and Scherer
2000: 222). The influence of pull factors is somewhat restricted; in order for an emotional expression
to remain both credible and comprehensible, the signal cannot deviate far from the underlying push
effects (Johnstone and Scherer 2000: 222). Though the term emotion is typically avoided when
considering animal communication, there is some evidence for similarities between animal affect
vocalizations and physiologically influenced human expressions (Scherer 1995: 236; Juslin and
Laukka 2003: 773).
2.1.1 Basic emotions
There are, in theory, an infinite number of shades of possible human emotions. A crucial point of
difference between theories concerns how these emotions relate to one another (Sloboda and Juslin
2001: 76). The majority of research to date follows the concept of basic emotions; the notion that there
is a small number of discreet, innate, and universal emotion categories from which all other emotions
may be derived (Juslin and Laukka 2003: 771). Though there are slight labeling discrepancies between
theorists, the basic emotions are typically taken as

The Olympic Games Of The United States Essay
In 1896, the Olympic Games were officially reborn into the modern era thanks to a Frenchman named
Baron Pierre de Coubertin (Lewis, 1992). In 1904, the Games of the III Olympiad arrived in the
United States, marking itself as the first Olympics to be held in said country as well as the first hosted
outside of Europe. Often forgotten, this specific Olympics also signifies the beginning of the horrible
luck Chicago, Illinois, has had regarding the hosting rights. With four losses under its belt and a
history of bad news, Chicago is frequently told to no one s surprise that it should simply give up on its
dream and focus on improving itself. However, who s to say that the Jewel of the Midwest can t do
both? By incorporating a well thought out narrative of what the city has gone through into their appeal
process, Chicago could very well win the bid next time around whenever that might be. The city
boasts an efficiently compact setting; a history and love of sports that entices amiable relations
between residents; and an enthralling tale to tell. Overall, Chicago can use its need for a strong
community to reach the top of the podium in the rigorous battle for host city status. A point often
overlooked, the city technically won the hosting rights once.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) awarded the city the right to host the third Olympics in
1904. Be that as it may, those games did not take place in Chicago as planned. Instead, Saint Louis,
Missouri, captured the rights

Can Continental Airlines Continue to Work Hard, Fly Right...
History of Continental Airlines
Continental Airlines began service in 1934 as Varney Speed Lines, named after one of its initial
owners, Walter T. Varney operating out of El Paso, Texas and extending through Las Vegas,
Albuquerque and Santa Fe, New Mexico to Pueblo, Colorado. The airline started with Lockheed
Vegas, a single engine plane that carried four passengers. The airline later flew other Lockheed planes,
including the Lodestar. It was renamed Continental on 1 July 1937 after a new owner Robert Six had
taken a forty percent ownership with Varney s co founder Louis Mueller. Six relocated the airline s
headquarters to Stapleton Airport in Denver in October, 1937. Robert F. Six was one of the legendary
patriarchs of U.S. aviation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most agreements permit airlines to fly from their home country to designated airports in the other
country: some also extend the freedom to provide continuing service to a third country, or to another
destination in the other country while carrying passengers from overseas. In the 1990s, open skies
agreements became more common. These agreements take many of these regulatory powers from state
governments and open up international routes to further competition. Open skies agreements have met
some criticism, particularly within the European Union, whose airlines would be at a comparative
disadvantage with the United States because of cabotage restrictions.
Internal Organization
He challenged all stakeholders in the air transport value chain to keep pace with an aggressive agenda
for industry change. After at least two years of lost growth, traffic is back to pre September levels in
most parts of the world. First quarter 2004 passenger traffic was 6.5% above the same period for 2001
while cargo volumes were 15.5% above 2001 levels. Firms in the commercial airline industry were
studied to ascertain their use of strategic market planning. The results indicate strategic market
planning and related techniques (Experience curve/cost analysis, portfolio analysis, investment
opportunity analysis, and PIMS)

Comparing Paster s Humoral Theory
Within humoral theory, the body is understood to be comprised of four humors: black bile, yellow
bile, phlegm and blood. Gail Kern Paster describes the long standing importance of humoral theory,
writing (8). Compare and contrast the idea of the body as a semipermeable, irrigated container in two
texts covered in the course. Relate your analysis of the two texts to humoral theory. In Renaissance
Literature, the body has been interpreted in different ways. Renaissance writers understood the body
as consisting of four humors: black bile, yellow bile, phlegm, and blood. Gail Kern Paster states in
Civilizing the Humoral body that every subject grew up with a common understanding of his or her

However, in Elizabethan drama, men played all roles, which meant that female experiences and
emotions were not allowed to come to the fore. (Paster) The effect of humoralism is influenced by
how the body is constructed due to social interactions in the external world. Paster allows for a
contemporary perception of the body. She uses the body as a representation of how people feel and
how they express these feelings through body language by outlining the difference humoralism, or any
other influential account of human physiology, makes to the subjective experience of being in the
body and thus to such matters as the inescapable...experience of bodily shame (Paster 3) In The Body
Embarrassed, Paster argues that the body can be seen as semipermeable, irrigated container because
the impact of humoral theory distinguishes between a social and physical body which connects the
experience from within the body with the outer body. This means that the individual s emotional
experiences are shown by the external depictions and perceptions of their

Disadvantages Of Arranged Marriage
It was against all scientific reason for two people who hardly knew each other, with no ties at all
between them, with different characters, different upbringings, and even different genders, to suddenly
find themselves committed to living together, to sleeping in the same bed, to sharing two destinies that
perhaps were fated to go in opposite directions. ― Gabriel Garcí¬a Márquez, Love in the Time of
Cholera
Indeed arranged marriage defined by the Oxford dictionary states that an arranged marriage is a
matrimony premeditated and contracted by the families of the couple involved. It is a union not based
on the decisions of the couple but rather their families. Arranged marriage is widely known to be
practiced across Asia and some parts of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Parents will only choose spouses that are best suited for their children, and they know that their
children will have the security and stability with their partners. Such arranged marriages prevents
unions that are grounded on pure compulsions. It is a matrimony that may not be about love but about
what is best for the couple s future. Often, in love matrimonies, the couple is too blinded by what they
perceive as love to see the faults of one another and their unsuitability. In arranged marriages it is the
parents that decide and they offer an impartial opinion on the personality of their partner. They know
what is best for their children. For example, a religious family would want their children to have the
same religious background as their spouse. For example, a Muslim family would want or maybe even
demand a matrimony between another Muslim families. By having an arranged marriage, families can
now check and be sure of the other party s background and make an informed decision before their
children got married. In normal love marriages, the family might have little say in who their children
falls in love with, thus reducing the chances of having an ideal partner. Therefore, arranged marriages
has its benefits as they offer security and stability to the couple and thus preserving the families
customs and practices if need be before the couple are to be

  • 2. The Unified Effect In The Fall Of The House Of Usher During the whole of a dull, dark, and soundless day in the autumn of the year, (412) is the first sentence in The Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Allan Poe. This beginning sentence sets the tone of dark. Gothic Literature s style has elements of fear, horror, gloomy and death; it gives the feeling of suspense and fear. This story is a great example of Gothic Literature. In this story the narrator goes to Usher s house, which is mysterious, and becomes aware that the house is like Usher who is sick. Poe s technique of the unified effect accomplishes its intended purpose through the setting, plot development and imagery. One way Poe accomplished the unified effect was by the way he described the setting. Poe used very descriptive words, Feeble gleams of encrimsoned light made their way through the trellised panes, and served to render sufficiently distinct the more prominent objects, (416). This sentence gives a certain dark tone Poe was achieving. This simply means that a dim, reddened light was shining only on the important objects. The light being encrimsoned suggest that there is blood or death. This is foreshadowing the ending of the story which contributes to the plot development for Poe s technique. ... This tells us that this would be the last time the narrator would see the lady and that she would be dead by the end. Majority of the student populations in these schools were Latinxs. They faced problems that were not as necessary problematic. Severe punishment awaited the bold who uttered their native Spanish language within earshot of school officials (2). Students were forbidden to speak Spanish during school hours. Students were forbidden from using the bathroom, especially during lunchtime. Students were denied to be taught their Mexican American history. Students were mostly being led into the labor industry instead of going to college and getting a degree. According to E. Esparza (2006), We had a huge conference that summer of 1967, in which college students there were a couple of hundred came together from throughout Southern California. It was basically almost everyone who was in college then, because there was less than 2% of all Chicanos that even enrolled in college . • 11. Motivation For Witchcraft Throughout the sixteenth and seventeenth century, witchcraft was widespread throughout various areas of the world. Today, witchcraft may be subtly displayed in children s books, where a witch often an elderly woman is shown travelling by broomstick or casting evil spells. Back then, people held allegations against others for using this black magic, and, in turn, some societies conducted persecutions against such individuals. These persecuted, and often executed individuals, were often said to be using their evil in worship of the Devil. Now that we see these ideas of black magic in children s books, it may appear that these witch panics were extreme. Before we make assumptions about the accusers of witches, we must consider further details in attempt to understand their underlying motivations to accept witchcraft beliefs. As Darren Oldridge argues, there may be multiple factors for this acceptance of witchcraft beliefs. One motivation that is evident is the absorption of power among the persecutors. Through time, since the start of witchcraft, witches became responsible for more and more issues, reflecting the span of influence persecutors held. It is important to consider the beginning of witchcraft prevalence. Since witchcraft allegations were often associated with the Devil, it must have been a Christian phenomenon. In Europe, where many witch trials took place, Christianity was extremely prevalent in the late Middle Ages and the early modern period. Therefore, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, the Corps of Engineers was unable to rebuild the outdated levee system due to lack of federal funding. This paper will focus on how President George. W. Army Corps of Engineers, requested the federal government to fund New Orleans Levee remedial projects. Yet, Congress provided a negligibly small amount of funding. Admittedly, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) was directly culpable for building an unreliable levee system, but it is President George. W. Bush and Congress s fault that there was not enough funding for them to build the system. In the process of determining the annual budget, the president first proposes the budget according to recommendations from government agencies, such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Then, the proposal is sent to Congress to make the final decision. Since the President and Congress work together to complete the budget, both President Bush and Congress cannot escape blame for making a bad decision to underfund the levee remedial projects. In this case, both the U.S. President and Congress violated rights ethics and utilitarianism. To prevent this kind of unethical decision making from happening again, Congress should (1) adhere to rights ethics by considering suggestions besides the budget proposal (2) pertain to utilitarianism by employing specialists to calculate the pure financial outcomes. Is the spiritual awakening of America the most significant part of the Great Awakening? The Great Awakening was a spiritual awakening during the 1730s through the 1770s, reaching its height in the 1740s. Taking place in both England and the colonies, George Whitefield, Jonathan Edwards, Theodore Frelinghuysen, and Gilbert Tennent were the distinguished preachers. (Clouse 92) However, this idea is invalid because church membership returned to its previous numbers after the Great Awakening. The gain in church membership was not significant in the long term as there were many false conversions during the Great Awakening which diminished its [spiritual] influence. In simpler words, a lesbian is a woman identified woman who is either sexually, or emotionally attracted to other woman identified women. Identifying as a lesbian means preparing yourself to be accepted by some of society, while looked down upon and ridiculed by others, it can mean different things for different individuals, but one thing remains the same, being lesbian comes with certain experiences, both good and bad that you otherwise would not experience. The whole lesbian discussion becomes more complex as we add in different intersections ranging from class, social status, to race. This brings up the whole concept of intersectionality which describes multiple layers of oppression that exposes individuals to systems of discrimination and leaves them at a disadvantage. However, intersectionality is a conversation that could continue on for eternity probably introducing more interdependent systems than the ones I mentioned. Due to the complexity of the matter, I would like to focus on and explore just one of the intersections of lesbians that I find most intriguing: lesbians in relation to race. All walks of life, from humans to plants, are living because of biochemical reactions. Biochemical reactions are processes that occur on a cellular level and are responsible for sustaining life: Photosynthesis, Cellular Respiration, Digestion, etc. Within these reactions, molecules change their identity and transform into new molecules. In the middle of these molecular transformations are enzymes (sites.com). The prediction of minimum activity occurring in 0° C and a maximum activity in 37° C was also supported. Through this lab it is easier to see when enzymes are at their weakest and their strongest. For Catalase, its job in a perfect environment includes breaking down millions of hydrogen peroxide molecules every second (rcsb.org). As the temperature was increased, the reacting molecule H2O2 gained more kinetic energy, increasing the rate of bonds with the Catalase molecule and oxygen production. Every enzyme has its point of no return. During denaturation the enzyme s protein structure collapses and loses its job specific shape. When this happens, its active site also loses shape; therefore, leaving a warped or completely disappeared active site for the substrate/reactant to collide and terminating the enzyme s ability to function (Taylor 2009). To his surprise, the images were strong and clear, proving that the uranium emitted radiation without an external source of energy such as the sun. Becquerel had discovered radioactivity. The new radiation was bent by the magnetic field so that the radiation must be charged and different than x rays. When different radioactive substances were put in the magnetic field, they deflected in different directions or not at all, showing that there were three classes of radioactivity: negative, positive, and electrically neutral. The term radioactivity was actually named by Marie Curie, who together with her husband Pierre, began investigating the phenomenon recently discovered by Becquerel. The Curies extracted uranium from ore and to their surprise, found that the leftover ore showed more activity than the pure uranium. They concluded that the ore contained other radioactive elements. This led to the discoveries of the elements polonium and radium. It took four more years of processing tons of ore to isolate enough of each element to determine their chemical properties. Brazilian producers cant hold a candle to the American cinema, not many can, they tried making box offices hits. Last year, in 2013, the top 10 films in Brazil were posted and a Brazilian film was the 3rd American imported films came in the first two. The little victories are important to a country that has such a free trade market they don t focus on pushing their own cinema. The early 1980 s were a dark time for Brazil. President Figueiredo came into office when debt and unemployment were at its highest. Also Brazil was in $90million dollar debt. This economic struggle introduces Brazilian cinema to a new low. By the early 1990 s President Collar opens the market to free trade. This was to industrialize Brazil, and attempt to cut government spending. Cutting government spending hurt cinema, which is why there will be a large decline in the early 1990s. By 1992 president Franco came into office. The inflation rate by this time doubled. This was a very bad time for brazils government. With the economy doing so poorly the urban crime life was high, acting as a muse for many producers. At this time 40% of the domestic films were documentaries on urban violence. In the 1980s to produce a film in Brazil is cost about $500,000 in order for the film to pay for itself ... Analysis Of Luncheon On The Grass Discussion Essay: Luncheon on the Grass (Le Déjeuner sur l herbe) Luncheon on the grass, a painting that left people of its time stunned was created in 1863 by painter Edouard Manet. This painting was an Impressionist work that broke the barrier that art should only be made if it respects the established conventions and attempts to achieve timelessness. The original name for this artwork was The Bath but it was changed four years later. It is an oil painting on canvas and its size is 208cm x 264.5cm (81.9 in x 104.1 in) it is a large painting. As all the figures were recognizable and were portrayed in an explicit narrative made it even more difficult to be displayed alongside traditional paintings. The painting was rejected by the official French academy in 1863 because it left the salon jury outraged to how the woman is being shown in the nude with no shame at all. Although nude women had always been the subject of classical art the problem here was that she was being depicted as a normal human being. Her body posture seemed relaxed, by slouching it also creates folds on her stomach. The salon did not approve as she was displayed as a regular modern day woman who happened to take her clothes off (you can see her polka dotted dress and hat towards her left) rather than a goddess or mythological creature. Through the Jung Typology assessment, my results were not surprising and mostly accurate. My results came back as ISFJ, meaning I am more introverted than extroverted, more sensing than intuitive, more feeling than sensing, and more judging than perceiving. D. However, I believe it was spot on when it says that I like to analyze a situation before I act on a decision and I am normally the quiet person in a heated debate. Gender is language bias, as it is a cultural term referring to social roles, which may be perceived as offensive. For example, referring to a female firefighter as a fireman implies that the female is actually a male firefighter. To avoid this, writers should ensure that they are using terms to avoid sexist bias. Next, age is language bias as a writer might think that someone is elderly because they are 50 but in reality, it is not accurate to call someone elderly until they are 65 or older. Those that are 50 could find this offensive. Thus to avoid this, a writer should always include an age range or refer to the APA manual when placing people into age categories. ... It is best to refer to the geographic locations one is from, as ethnic labels can be offensive or harmful. Writers can avoid using slang language by aiming to identify persons by nation of origin. Lastly, language objectifying a person s condition or disability is language bias. Language including negative labels, or slurs should not be used, as they are harmful and offensive. However, there are technical and cost limitations which hinder solar power s ability to become a more influential global electricity source. Despite these limitations, solar power is utilized by many. From homes in the Unites States to developing countries, solar power is making lives and the world a better place. Governments must see the potential of solar power and push their country s energy needs away from fossil fuels and towards renewable sources, such as solar power. INTRODUCTION With the reduction of the dependence on fossil fuels, countries and citizens are looking for a way to fulfill their energy needs. Many turn to solar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... FINDINGS The largest obstacle solar power has to overcome is cost. Solar power has high startup costs. Stated in The Future of Solar Energy, Currently, the estimated installed cost per peak watt for a residential PV system is approximately 80% greater than that for a utility scale plant, with costs for a typical commercial scale installation falling somewhere in between. These cost estimates often include costs for inverters, racking and installation hardware, design and installation labor, and marketing, as well as various regulatory and financing costs (The Future of Solar Energy). Many do not want to pay for the upfront costs of instillation of solar energy devices when an alternative energy supplier is already in place. In order to successfully reduce our carbon emissions, governments must become involved. Federal money must be allotted to the research and development of solar power for it to become a viable energy source. In doing so solar power will become less privatized and potentially more affordable. There has been recent growth in the solar energy due to a 50% 70% drop in reported PV prices (without federal subsidies) per installed peak watt , and a current federal tax subsidy for solar generation: a 30% investment tax credit (ITC) (The Future of Solar Energy). The reduction of PV prices and a tax credit is a positive aspect for solar power, but the prices are still too high for the masses. The value of a renewable energy source is frequently lost when ... • 36. The Process Of Alternative Dispute Resolution The process of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is a relatively new phenomena which has infiltrated contemporary next generation human resource management. As the use of ADR methods grew, proponents viewed them as promising mechanism s for an abundance of scenarios. Conflict has and always will be an inherent part of the workplace (Colvin 2003). It is for this reason alternative conflict resolution has amassed development, especially considering the cost of rigid normative procedures, with Gibbons (2007, p 7) estimating that employment conflict in the UK costing an estimated £410 million annually. Conflict is generated when one party perceives that another party has negatively influenced something the first party cares about (Huczynski and Buchanan 2007, p764). It is in this context that conflict resolution processes ought to address both the actions and perceptions of both parties in the dispute in order to garner more successful results (Willmott 1993). Therefore, in order to achieve this practically a significant shift was required from regular grievance strategies toward a more flexible and pragmatic system which promotes a positive outcome for both parties (Gibbons 2007, p 7). All forms of ADR will involve a third party with the role of the third party contingent on the type of ADR applied .The type of ADR used shall be dictated by the type of dispute, what stage it is at and ultimately the type of resolution being sought. Complexity and Tractability The area of tractability explores problems and algorithms that can take an impossible amount of computation to solve. Tractable problems can be roughly defined as problems that can be solved in a reasonable amount of time, while intractable problems are those which take too long to solve to be useful. Finding solutions to these problems is a key problem in computer science today and has been for many years. It is also important for a computer scientist to recognise intractable problems as it would be a huge waste of time trying to write a program to an intractable problem. It would be better to recognise this and take a different more suitable approach that would save time and effort but also would come up with a valid solution. However there are advantages to making a problem intractable though as when securing things using intractable codes which cannot be hacked into easily. Complexity can be simply defined as a rough estimation of amount of time it takes a particular algorithm to solve a problem. This is not only measured in time but can be expressed as the number of steps taken in order to solve a problem. It is important to be able to measure the complexity of a problem as this can help to indicate how good/effective an algorithm will be and whether it is tractable or not.One of the most popular intractable problems that has been found is the Traveling Salesman problem. This play helps shine a light on the gender roles of the 1800s while also creating a twist that was uncommon for this period. During this time period, women were left home to oversee the domestic duties, while men went to commuted to work (Hughes). Men were seen as physically superior but morally inferior to women; which is also portrayed within this book (Hughes). This play marks the beginning of Henrik Ibsen s realist period, which he explored the ordinary lives of small town people (Kirszner and Mandell 881). This modern tragedy helped make Ibsen famous internationally because of the real life story it captured (Kirszner and Mandell 882). Henrik Ibsen uses an array of literary devices to help keep the reader captivated from beginning to end. Three of the most prominent literary devices used by Henrik Ibsen are symbolism, foreshadowing, and an array of themes. These literary devices help transform a basic play into a complex story of lies and deception.
