Dissociative Identity Disorder In Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde
Dissociative Identity Disorder in Robert Louis Stevenson s The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr.
Hyde This article was written by Rokeya Sarker Rita about the best selling novel, Dr. Jekyll and Mr.
Hyde. The earliest case of DID came about in the nineteenth century in Europe and was dealt with by
Pierre Janet, a philosopher and psychologist. Around that time, the information on DID was practically
nonexistent so Rita wanted to see how accurate the depiction of DID was in the novel. She uses
research from back then, research from this time and references from the novel to help find answers.
Unbeknownst to a majority of the population, Robert Louis Stevenson, the author of Dr. Jekyll and
Mr. Hyde, used to experience psychotic breaks. He often spoke of be aware of his two differing
personalities. He spoke of myself which was his true self, his rational side, his normal side. He also
spoke of his other side, the other fellow , who was his dark side yet very creative, difficult, and
seething. Stevenson actually enjoyed his split personalities and drew inspiration from it for his novel.
He fond it interesting that he had simultaneous yet slightly conflicting states of mind going on. These
psychiatric problems perhaps stemmed from his parents who were aggressive hypochondriacs. In the
case of Dr. Jekyll in the story, his DID stems from being part of a Victorian society. This society
emphasized social value ad reputation so Dr. Jekyll felt pressurized to maintain his

A Brief Note On The American Association Of Orthopedic...
FIC AIMS
Background and problem to be addressed: According to the American Association of Orthopedic
Surgeon s (AAOS), chondrosarcomas are the second leading cause of bone cancers, as well as the
most difficult to treat (1). Currently, the only effective treatment includes chemotherapy and wide
surgical resection of the bone and cartilaginous tissue surrounding the tumor, which is incredibly
invasive and painful for the patient (2). Depending on the location of the tumor, however, surgical
resection might not always be possible. Also, if the margin is not wide, the tumor can recur.
Alternatives to resection include debulking and intralesional surgery, but these are associated with a
recurrence rate of up to 93% (3,4). Therefore, developing a less invasive alternative treatment would
be a significant advancement in quality of life for patients with chondrosarcomas.
Long term goal: The long term goal of this research program is to find effective treatment for
chondrosarcomas. Here, we propose to test whether iron depletion therapy can be used to improve
outcome for patients with chondrosarcoma tumors. A first step toward reaching this initial goal is to
test whether iron deprivation controls tumor cell growth in vitro and in a rat model.
Hypothesis: Our experimental model will utilize chondrosarcoma cell lines that will be studied in
tissue culture and in rats. We hypothesize that chondrosarcoma cancer cell lines depleted of serum iron
will exhibit decreased growth and

How Did The Golden Age Of Hip Hop Affect African American...
The Golden Age Of Hip Hop The 80s was considered The Golden Age Of Hip Hop because of its
lyrical content and focus on the African American experience in Urban America. Hip Hop at the time
matured and focused on social issues. Hip Hop has its own fashion with bold bright colors, big jewelry
and baggy clothes. At the time, sales and interest boosted within the record companies. Eventually the
Golden Age era ended due to new things being done involving music. Hip Hop is still widely listened
to today throughout America and the rest of the world. Hip Hop is more than music, it s more of a
culture. Hip Hop has socially affected America especially the African American community. Hip Hop

A Student Of Lebanon Valley College Essay
As a student of Lebanon Valley College, I have found that this school is home for me. With my very
first step on campus, I knew this is where I belonged. Now, after just a short enjoyable semester I am
faced with the dilemma that I may not be here next semester. Understand, when I was in the sixth
grade I knew college is where I wanted to be, even though no one in my family saw it as a possibility.
I was that little kid with big dreams, but now I am being subjected to my own true faults.
To begin, in the third grade my parents got a divorce and everything I knew was torn into two. I
understand this divorce was a decade ago, but I never understood the rippling effect of it. We kids had
to commute back and forth between two parents who were barely keeping their heads above water
financially. I was a little person who had to deal with multiple occasions in a house with no heat, no
power, and no source of food. Times were tough, but my internal drive to become something, trumped
everything else. As a result of my parents finances, college funds were never a possibility. This
impossibility hit home for me, which allowed a little third grader to fight tooth and nail for a simple
honor roll or distinguish honor roll in hopes of becoming something one day. As the years went on I
kept this status because I wanted to make myself proud, but most of all, I wanted to make my mother
proud. For my mom, colleges was never an option, she had too many setbacks to even make it through

Analysis Of The Invention Of Wings
Sue Monk Kidd s The Invention of Wings is a riveting tale of equality, the struggle of freedom, and
friendship. The story revolves around Sarah Grimke and her slave Handful that she was given on her
eleventh birthday. From a young age, Sarah begins to understand the consequences of slave
inhumanity and this disturbs her daily life. After watching a slave being punished, she was left scarred
and develops a speech impediment. As Sarah proceeds through her life, she comes across important
life occasions such as death, extrusion, and heartbreak. Sarah s relationship with Handful has its ups
and downs. As children, they were very close and the idea of owning Handful weighs a toll on her. As
she continues through the stages of her life, she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Charlotte s passion in driving emancipation was not only portrayed through her storytelling, but also
her quilts. The black triangles sewn onto the quilt represent freedom and blackbird wings. This
obviously was such a big part in Handful s life as well because later in the novel when she sews a quilt
for Denmark Vesey, the same black triangles that her mother had sewn years before were symbolized
again. At the end of the novel when Handful and Sky escape, they take Charlotte s original quilt with
the wings on it to the North with them. Handful also references hearing the blackbird wings as she
escapes to the north at the end of the novel. There are two unambiguous themes that the book center
around: friendship and equality. As a reader, both of these themes encapsulate the reader as the novel
progresses and almost allow the reader to have a personal connection with the characters. Unlike other
novels that only show positives and joyful experiences, Handful and Sarah experience a roller coaster
of a friendship because of their differing backgrounds. Both of these characters must overcome their
own issues, which sometimes created distance and heartache between the two. In part one of the
novel, Handful talks about a pure love between her and Sarah and it shows their innocence as children
and the friendship that they both had: People say love gets fouled by a difference big as ours. I

Erikson s Stages Of Development
Adolescent Development The age of adolescents is generally a time of great change within a person s
life. Between the ages of twelve and eighteen, adolescents do not only experience rapid physical
change, but also begin to find their own unique personality by completing cognitive, behavioral, moral
and social stages. These stages were defined by different theorists such as Erik Erikson, Jean Piaget
and Lawrence Kohlberg. After completing these stages an adolescent should be able to develop into a
healthy and happy adult who can think abstractly and has their own set of morals and identity (Berk,
2014, pg. 402).

407). Kohlberg s levels of morality are separated into three main stages. Children are most often in the
first stage, the preconventional level, At this level individuals reason through their morals based upon
consequences that will come after. The conventional level describes how individuals at this stage
conform to agreed upon morals and rules to keep the order rather than avoiding punishment. The last
and most advanced stage is the postconventional stage which entails individuals who move beyond
agreed upon rules and morals and actually question established beliefs and principles (Berk, 2014, p.g.

popularity he is in the conventional level because he hopes to solve his dilemma of wanting to gain
popularity by keeping everything in his school s culture and principles intact. When Ronald was trying
to keep his deal with Cindy a secret and also fit in, he was perpetuating the current social system.
When Ronald finally had his realization that cliques are not important and all that really mattered was
who you are he tore down social barriers and laws and began to apply his new and abstract morals to

Competitive Advantage Analysis Of The England Television...
10 Competitive Advantage Analysis
When a company succeeds in creating more value for customers than its competitors, that company is
said to enjoy competitive advantage in an industry. A competitive advantage exists when the firm is
able to deliver the same benefits as competitors but at a lower cost (cost advantage) or deliver benefits
that go over those of competing products (differentiation advantage). Therefore, a competitive
advantage allows the firm to create superior value for its customers and profits for itself.

A Report On The Security System
In December of 2015, Syed Rizwan Farook and his wife, Tashfeen Malik killed 14 people at a holiday
party in San Bernardino, California. Authorities believe the two attackers were influenced by violent
jihadist ideology. Both Farook and Malik were killed later that day in a gunfight with the authorities.
Upon searching their house, law enforcement confiscated Farook s corporate owned iPhone (Brown,
2016, p. 8). However, when the FBI tried to unlock this iPhone, they discovered that the security
system in place on it would erase everything on the phone if more than ten unsuccessful attempts to

Hackers have been threatening people s personal and private information for years, and companies

A History of Submissive Women in Literature
The feminine gender has long been one that has been repressed throughout history and forced to
acclimate itself to a world dominated by men. Although major improvements have been made in the
strife for equality, this continues to be a man s world. In the short stories The Chrysanthemums and A
Rose for Emily, as well as in the drama A Doll s House, the protagonists are all frustrated women who
are unfulfilled with their subservient lives. Partly imposed upon them by their setting s historical and
societal norms, they choose to either do something about it or continue to internalize their
dissatisfaction. When analyzing these pieces of literature, it becomes quite obvious which of the
protagonists fall under the category of those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Elizabeth Hardwick, Nora is intrinsically independent and free spirited from the very
beginning of the play (294). Unni Langås also wrote an essay on Ibsen s drama and about Nora s
specific motives. He wrote, When she performs acts that are generally reserved for men, or withdraws
from practices associated with women, she shows the gender attribution of these acts to be social
constructions and thereby contests their reified status (157). So, Langås claims that Nora s rebellion
and discontent began long before she literally walked out on Trovald, her husband. The events that
eventually unfolded at the end of the play and that lead her to finally leave her husband were just those
last straws that broke the camel s back. Before her final stage exit, Ibsen has Nora say, For eight years
I have been patiently waiting, enforcing this idea of long lived frustration (3.1107). Again, this idea of
the rebellious woman at the end of the nineteenth century was not only reserved to post Civil War
America as was the case with Emily Grierson. Nora Helmer and her insurgence, against all ethical and
moral norms of society at the time, did not go unnoticed in Northern Europe. According to Marilyn
Yalom, The idea that a respectable woman should renounce her role as wife and mother, leave her
husband and children, and strike out on her own was seen

The employee s computer may also contain valuable information that can be extracted about the
downloading of the information. All of these avenues will provide a chain of auditable evidence
against the employee in question and could result in his dismissal as well as other civil legal action.
The third scenario involves the theft of a laptop computer. On October 31, 2012 there was a security
breach reported by NASA that a laptop computer was stolen from an employee s vehicle that
contained personal data on ten thousand users and was unencrypted. NASA immediately began
working with local law enforcement after the laptop was stolen, with the goal of recovering the
computer and protecting the sensitive data (Vijayan, 2012).
Information provided by IT Security about the serial number of the laptop and other identifying
features should have been well documented before the laptop ever left the NASA facility. Computer

information on the stolen laptop so they can be informed and take appropriate action to protect their

any sensitive information was accessed while the computer was missing and what information was

Cannabis In Canada
Abstract
Cannabis use, though still somewhat stigmatized in the media, is among one of the fastest growing
trends in Canada among youths and adults alike. The evidence I have gathered through statistical
analysis and secondary research shows that cannabis has become the recreational drug of choice
among Canadians. This is due to a host of factors. One of these factors is a record breaking positive
public perception of cannabis among Canadians. The way the public perceives a drug is very
important, and for something as taboo as cannabis to be accepted by the public and the media takes
time and effort. This struggle to increase the positive perception of cannabis among Canadians has
paid off greatly, displayed in national surveys where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sandberg, S. (2011, August 3) The Department of Sociology and Human Geography in Norway did a
study on the public perception of marijuana among Norwegians who part take. A study done on 100
cannabis users saw that their perception of the drug was either neutral or positive. Unlike tobacco
users or alcoholics, cannabis users don t see much of a problem with using weed (another slang term
for cannabis). They don t seem to understand that smoking this product can have similar effects on
their lungs as cigarettes (though not as destructive). The idea that teens do drugs to rebel against
society is actually un true, the exact opposite is true. When cannabis is talked about so positively in
the media and among politicians, it actually makes teenagers think the drug is safe and subconsciously
encourages them to do it. Alcohol and cigarettes aren t looked at so positively in society, and thus the
use of these drugs among youths is falling dramatically (yes, even alcohol). They see these drugs as
life threatening, manmade chemicals ingested by older folk, while cannabis is seen as this great, all
natural remedy to many ailments in life (depression, anxiety, appetite loss, insomnia, etc). Though
much of marijuana s positive attributes are supported by science, there are some misconceptions that
leave teens with the wrong ideas about cannabis, such as marijuana has no negative mental effects on

The Incidence Of Thyroid Cancer
The incidence of thyroid cancer is rapidly rising in the US accounting for 62,980 cases with 1890
deaths every year[1]. It is the seventh most common cancer diagnosed in women and peaks earlier
than in men. Despite its high prevalence, death rate from thyroid cancer is fairly stable from past many
years. In general, thyroid cancer offers a good prognosis with an overall survival rate of approximately
90%[2]. Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) and follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC) termed as
differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) contribute to majority of thyroid cancers sharing a superior
prognosis. Medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), mostly acquired as a part of familial syndromes,
display only modest cure rates. While surgical resection followed by radioiodine therapy remains the
treatment of choice for localized thyroid cancer, it fails to eradicate tumors with aggressive behavior.
In marked contrast to DTC, anaplastic carcinoma (ATC), an undifferentiated sub type of thyroid
cancer, has a higher propensity to locally invade nearby structures and metastasize rapidly. It
approaches to almost 50% of all thyroid cancer related deaths, the median survival being only six
months[3]. The grim prognosis of ATC is due to the fact that it is diagnosed at an advanced stage
which offers palliative treatment as the only option for patients suffering from the disease. Because of
the chemo and radio resistant nature observed in aggressive thyroid cancers, many researchers have

Pros And Cons Of A Great Looking Garden
25.
To me a great looking garden is much more than just that just a smart looking lawn and finely cut

The Importance Of Human Trafficking
Human trafficking is the ideal kidnapping of the century. Human trafficking is the most harmful crime
that should be taken seriously because of this crime it hurts young women and girls of all ages. Some
say that the crime might be reported, but it doesn t mean it s noticed. There is all the information on it,
the bad info, and ways to solve it, and ways to prevent it from happening to others. With this crime
being the most unnoticed reported crime, people should help solve it.
Human trafficking is the most hurtful and dangerous thing in the 21st century. It s ruining people s
families, and the world doesn t know about this kind of information because of the police force (etc.),
they keep it from getting out. They think that if they keep it from getting out no one will know, but I
think if people found out they will be willing to help out. Human trafficking is a crime against
humanity. We must unite our efforts to free victims and stop this crime that s becoming more
aggressive, that threatens not just individuals, but the foundational values of society. (Pope Francis).
So as you can see human trafficking should be the most important thing for society today because of
the number of lives they re taking away from their own families. However, human trafficking in people
s eyes is a serious crime and a grave violation of human rights.

Moreover, the number of clients who have received services simply identifies the number of clients
who proceeded through the program. Outcomes identify the changes, impact, or benefits of the clients
both during and after the program. For example, an outcome may be for clients to stop drinking in an
alcohol program. Individuals should be aware that outcomes are different from outputs, for an
example, the amount of clients who pass through a program. (Lewis, Packard amp; Lewis, 2006) The
changes or outcomes can be conveyed in the following terms. First knowledge, and skills outcomes

The Minimum Wage
There have been multiple debates on whether or not the minimum wage should be raised. Minimum
wage can produce an impact on everyday life more than most may think. It is not just about more
money in a person s pocket; it can affect the economy in multiple ways. Many people think it would
be a good idea to raise the average minimum wage, but they do not understand or take the time to
think of the disadvantages. The minimum wage is the least amount a worker can be paid at a job, by
federal law. The present minimum wage is set at seven dollars and 25 cents. The wage can be
determined by votes of the public or the average living cost. Before the Fair Labor Standards Act,
corporations were free to choose any pay rate of their choice. This ... Show more content on

Another disadvantage to a rise in pay includes the possibility that some people may lose their
government benefits due to their new annual income, such as food stamps or health insurance.
The loss of federal and state aids could produce a greater hardship on people and their families than
the preexisting minimum wage. For those who have already earned a higher pay due to noticeably
hard work or time spent working for a company, the raise of minimum wage would cause the
experienced workers to demand more. If the company is already struggling to pay the difference of the
raised minimum wage, there will be no option but to either refuse the request of an experienced
worker or fire employees. Even though workers have dreamed of a pay raise for years, it has been
concluded that the money will not be coming very soon. It is expected to be a few years until an
increased minimum wage could be developed (Mcgeehan). This does not include all of America due to
larger cities usually having higher wages. Some states have more of a demand due to the different
living conditions and different prices of products. Smaller towns have been known to produce smaller
prices for average products due to supply and demand. This means the ratio of pay to living expenses
averages out. The outcomes aren t all bad. There are also some good

Essay on criminal law esssay
English law has been subject to being described as unprincipled and inconsistent in its approach to the
question of whether the failure to act is a sufficient basis for criminal liability. This is due to a range of
factors an example of which being the collection of convictions passed to defendants who have been
charged with a crime, which did not involve a positive or direct action. In addition for those who have
not been convicted, it is questionable whether the law is unprincipled as it is unclear about the moral
obligation that individuals have to act and when a moral obligation is a legal obligation. There is also
uncertainty regarding what is a sufficient basis for criminal liability as each case is different and it is

Lord Diplock stated, I see no rational ground for excluding from conduct capable of giving rise to
criminal liability conduct which consists of failing to take measures that lie within one s powers to
counteract a danger that one has created 3. This statement emphasises that the focus is the danger
created however the crime is damaging property thus the argument being used to prove his guilt does
not quite match the crime as no one beside himself would have been harmed. In fact, £800 of damage
was done thus maybe a fine would have been more appropriate sanction than a sentence. It can thus be
suggested that the law requires individuals to put right that which goes wrong 4 and in not doing so,
the defendant may have become a victim of the judges morals impacting the case ultimately
suggesting that although there is no written law, individuals are essentially forced into behaving in a
manner which would be considered noble. This also suggest that the law is unprincipled in its
approach to deciding weather the failure to act should result in criminal liability.
The case of R v Stone, R v Dobinson further supports this argument as the defendants have also been
convicted on the failure to act, however, it could be argued that in comparison to Miller, Stone and
Dobinson have no direct cause of the incident. According to Ashworth, there are three principals that

The Nature of Thought in Joyce Essay
The Nature of Thought in Joyce
Thought is a problem in Joyce s work. His characters obscure trains of thought and remembrance
constantly challenge the reader to keep up. I will argue that the depths of this obscurity are not, in fact,
murky; they are a response to his introspection about the nature of thought, and reflect a coherent
theory. Joyce often repeats phrases, and he makes such repetitions noticeable in order to direct the
reader to the questions: What is thought? And what are the unconscious processes of the mind? His
characters are unpredictable, experiencing truly surprising emotional reactions. This unexpectedness
adds depth and verisimilitude to characterization; as in life, the strongest emotional experiences are

When he makes the speech, the comparison between his aunts and the Three Graces pleases them very
much. He decides that, since his speech has been so successful, it would be safer not to risk offense,
and hastens to his close (139). The events of the story, and not so much Gabriel, are the reason he
chooses to leave the quotation out.
There is another factor that contributes to his willingness to drop the verses: he has already
accomplished his aim of working in Browning, by spontaneously borrowing from his own review of
the poet s recent work: But we are living in a skeptical and, if I may use the phrase, a thought
tormented age (138). His original words were One feels that one is listened to a thought tormented

phrase thought tormented is there for him to use. The fact that he does preface it with if I may use the
phrase suggests that he is aware of what he is doing.
However, Gabriel makes two other crucial word choices that are unconscious but telling. They are
apparent under a close reading, and even produce a vague feeling of familiarity under casual reading.

newspapers that the snow is general all over Ireland (144). And in conversation at dinner, Mary Jane

When genetic engineering is done on an organism, it introduces new characteristics on the organism.
Organisms, that is plants and animal gene configuration can be changed using modern biotechnology.
When the genes in an organism are changed this basically called genetic modification. There are some
terms we need to know when we talk about genetic modification. What is a genetically modified
organism? This is a plant or animal which through new biotechnology techniques, its genetic
configuration has been changed. This has made changes in the ways organisms grow in a tremendous
way. Other names which can be used to mean the same as genetic modification are genetic

Several food substances in our supermarkets are as a result of genetic recombination. Maize is a good
example of those genetically engineered foods. When we take meat and milk, both are constituent of

The Science Fiction Story, A Reporter

ESS 102
Research Paper In the science fiction story, a reporter goes to board the first public flight to Mars. He
writes about what he experiences such as the feeling of being the first passengers to Mars, seeing the
technologies that recycle water, eating fresh produce in space, and the final landing on Mars a year
later and watching the rovers that landed before him moving about. Many problems of space travel
stem from the fact that supplies are limited in space. A trip to Mars with current technologies would
take eight months to travel to Mars and that is just robotic missions (NASA 2012a). This presents an
obvious problem that a space flight can only carry a limited amount of food, water, and air. Any
system also needs to be powered by electricity. Current food technology consists of prepackaged food.
There are a couple problems that space food has to be able to solve. One problem is that space food
has to not just float around and get into vents, crevices, and machinery. This is a hazard that scientists
have to keep in mind when making food. Also, it should be long lasting enough to last in space until a
resupply. The food the astronauts eat in the International Space Station right now are all packaged
food sent up from earth. There is freeze dried food which is cooked before being flash frozen and
vacuumed. This is then rehydrated with water when astronauts want to eat. There are wetpacks, which
are food pouches that don t need to be rehydrated like

Mexican Peso Crisis Essay
The IMF and World Bank providing loans to impoverished and financially unstable countries is not
only irresponsible, it s unethical. I intend to use the example of the loans provided to Mexico during
the Mexican peso crisis, also called the Tequila crisis or December mistake crisis to illustrate this, and
then provide what I believe would be a better solution
On January 1st, 1994 the North American Free Trade Agreement became effective. This, along with
the Mexican peso having an exchange rate pinned to the US dollar and low interest rates in the United
States provided the Mexican government and Mexican businesses with access to foreign investors
who we eager to invest. Joseph A. Whitt, Jr. details the events as the Mexican government devalued
the peso. The financial crisis that followed cut the peso s value in half, sent inflation soaring and set
off a severe recession in Mexico (Whitt, 1996, p. 1). Two days later, On the morning of December
22nd, the government announced that it was abandoning the exchange rate target band and allowing
the peso to float (Whitt, 1996, p. 14).

Monitoring And Controlling Blood Glucose Levels
Worldwide, diabetes is a rapidly growing problem that is managed at the individual level by
monitoring and controlling blood glucose levels to minimize the negative effects of the disease.
Because of limitations in diagnostic methods, significant research efforts are focused on developing
improved methods to measure glucose. Nanotechnology has impacted these efforts by increasing the
surface area of sensors, improving the catalytic properties of electrodes and providing nanoscale
sensors. Herein, we discuss the developments in the past several years on both nanosensors that
directly measure glucose as well as nanomaterials that improve glucose sensor function.
Diabetes is a rapidly growing problem, currently affecting 300 million people worldwide . and its
incidence is expected to increase rapidly in the coming decades[0]. Diabetes can lead to complications
such as serious as lower limb amputations, blindness, and cardiovascular disease [1].Continuous and
accurate monitoring of patient blood glucose levels is critical for diagnosis and management of the
disease.
In order to attain optimal control, patients must monitor their blood glucose levels. Currently, this
requires a patient to obtain a small sample of blood, usually via a finger prick. Blood is placed onto a
sensor test strip that is then read by a handheld electronic reader, which reports the blood glucose
concentration. These sensors are based on electrochemical enzymatic measurements (Figure 1) with

Eating Disorder And Disordered Eating
Another issue that seems to be prevalent is the distinction between an eating disorder and disordered
eating. These two are frequently misunderstood and used out of context. Disordered eating is almost
the same thing as an eating disorder with a few differences. Someone who suffers from disordered
eating is someone who does the same things as someone who suffers from an actual diagnosed eating
disorder but with less frequently. An example of this would be purging after eating an excessive
amount of food. Those who suffer from disordered eating often times have a history of depression or
anxiety. In addition to mental health consequences, ED have physical health consequences. The
National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) lists some health consequences associated with AN
and BN. For AN, health consequences include reduction of bone density (osteoporosis), severe
dehydration, which can result in kidney failure, fainting, fatigue, anemia, a lower immune system
function, slowed heart rate, even poor circulation of the blood, and overall weakness (NEDA). Some
of the physical effects for BN are inflammation and possible rupture of the esophagus from frequent
vomiting, chronic irregular bowel movements and constipation as a result of laxative abuse, and peptic
ulcers and pancreatitis. (NEDA). Premature birth, muscle fatigue, tooth decay, and mental health
issues can all arise from a BN as well. Multiple studies and reviews have been conducted to

Twentieth Century Music Analysis
The twentieth century impacted human kind in ways that those alive before the year 1900 never could

in science and technology that elevated our quality of life to the standard we enjoy today. Like so
many other trades, the music industry benefited greatly from these new innovations. In turn, this new
technology altered the sound of music: changing how it was performed, recorded, and sold. Glenn

speaker learns something new about themselves and their relationship to the object or place. If the
encounter is between two people, there s a trend of the two not having the same level of
understanding. Both interactions are explored in Lyrical Ballads, the joint work between William
Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge. In Coleridge s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner , the
Mariner encounters deviations within his own behavior and otherworldly experiences that change him.
However, he can only describe the surreal events, not explain them. He s unable to explain why he
chose to shoot the albatross, which till that point had been a good omen. This decision lead to the
death of his crewmates and the curse being placed on him. Moreover, he s unable to explain the
appearance of the ghost ship, in which Death and Life in death play for the crewmen s souls. When
Life in death wins his soul, he doesn t understand why she placed the curse on him. These unfound
explanations for the events reflect on how nature doesn t have to have an answer for its actions. His

I Am A Neonatal Nurse
Nursing has a variety of different specialties. The specialty I am most excited for is neonatal. Neonatal
nurses are nurses who care for premature babies, otherwise known as neonates. They have many
different job responsibilities, including, assessing a client s pain, caring for them, and understanding
what is best for the specific client. Despite all the criticism about my career choice, I have reinforced
my decision by learning about the effects of stress, the type of care nurses implement, and best
practices of neonatal nurses. Before coming to school I knew I aspired to be a neonatal nurse, although
I was not aware of everything that went along with it. I was a premature baby, along with my older
sister. We were both diagnosed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This at first, did not make a whole lot of sense to me, but now it does. When a baby has gone through
stress in utero, they have built up a tolerance to stress and pain. Their bodies have felt factors of strain,
and can deal with it a lot better than babies who have not been exposed to stressful events before.
However, after a neonate is born, it is critical to prevent stress as much as you can. Babies are
constantly being assessed, held, bathed, and fed. Swaddling has been proven to help distress neonates
by being wrapped up in a blanket tightly (Buonocore Bellieni, 2007, p. 87). You can imagine the
immediate shock neonates encounter once leaving their mother s womb. There they desperately suffer
while discovering their new, constricted condition. They are pinned to their little bed by gravity,
deprived of their usual reassuring gestures (sucking their thumb, playing with their umbilical cord,
placenta, or feet, masturbating, or swallowing amniotic liquid) because of their lack of motor
coordination. They have lost their freedom and any kind of potential initiative; they are now
submissive and become passive. Many of them escape into their own world and anesthetize their
perceptions; they dissociate themselves, which later on will influence their way of living. I am often
brought

Dissociative Identity Disorder In Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde Dissociative Identity Disorder in Robert Louis Stevenson s The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde This article was written by Rokeya Sarker Rita about the best selling novel, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The earliest case of DID came about in the nineteenth century in Europe and was dealt with by Pierre Janet, a philosopher and psychologist. Around that time, the information on DID was practically nonexistent so Rita wanted to see how accurate the depiction of DID was in the novel. She uses research from back then, research from this time and references from the novel to help find answers. Unbeknownst to a majority of the population, Robert Louis Stevenson, the author of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, used to experience psychotic breaks. He often spoke of be aware of his two differing personalities. He spoke of myself which was his true self, his rational side, his normal side. He also spoke of his other side, the other fellow , who was his dark side yet very creative, difficult, and seething. Stevenson actually enjoyed his split personalities and drew inspiration from it for his novel. He fond it interesting that he had simultaneous yet slightly conflicting states of mind going on. These psychiatric problems perhaps stemmed from his parents who were aggressive hypochondriacs. In the case of Dr. Jekyll in the story, his DID stems from being part of a Victorian society. This society emphasized social value ad reputation so Dr. Jekyll felt pressurized to maintain his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. A Brief Note On The American Association Of Orthopedic... FIC AIMS Background and problem to be addressed: According to the American Association of Orthopedic Surgeon s (AAOS), chondrosarcomas are the second leading cause of bone cancers, as well as the most difficult to treat (1). Currently, the only effective treatment includes chemotherapy and wide surgical resection of the bone and cartilaginous tissue surrounding the tumor, which is incredibly invasive and painful for the patient (2). Depending on the location of the tumor, however, surgical resection might not always be possible. Also, if the margin is not wide, the tumor can recur. Alternatives to resection include debulking and intralesional surgery, but these are associated with a recurrence rate of up to 93% (3,4). Therefore, developing a less invasive alternative treatment would be a significant advancement in quality of life for patients with chondrosarcomas. Long term goal: The long term goal of this research program is to find effective treatment for chondrosarcomas. Here, we propose to test whether iron depletion therapy can be used to improve outcome for patients with chondrosarcoma tumors. A first step toward reaching this initial goal is to test whether iron deprivation controls tumor cell growth in vitro and in a rat model. Hypothesis: Our experimental model will utilize chondrosarcoma cell lines that will be studied in tissue culture and in rats. We hypothesize that chondrosarcoma cancer cell lines depleted of serum iron will exhibit decreased growth and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With my very first step on campus, I knew this is where I belonged. Now, after just a short enjoyable semester I am faced with the dilemma that I may not be here next semester. Understand, when I was in the sixth grade I knew college is where I wanted to be, even though no one in my family saw it as a possibility. I was that little kid with big dreams, but now I am being subjected to my own true faults. To begin, in the third grade my parents got a divorce and everything I knew was torn into two. I understand this divorce was a decade ago, but I never understood the rippling effect of it. We kids had to commute back and forth between two parents who were barely keeping their heads above water financially. I was a little person who had to deal with multiple occasions in a house with no heat, no power, and no source of food. Times were tough, but my internal drive to become something, trumped everything else. As a result of my parents finances, college funds were never a possibility. This impossibility hit home for me, which allowed a little third grader to fight tooth and nail for a simple honor roll or distinguish honor roll in hopes of becoming something one day. As the years went on I kept this status because I wanted to make myself proud, but most of all, I wanted to make my mother proud. Charlotte s passion in driving emancipation was not only portrayed through her storytelling, but also her quilts. The black triangles sewn onto the quilt represent freedom and blackbird wings. This obviously was such a big part in Handful s life as well because later in the novel when she sews a quilt for Denmark Vesey, the same black triangles that her mother had sewn years before were symbolized again. At the end of the novel when Handful and Sky escape, they take Charlotte s original quilt with the wings on it to the North with them. Handful also references hearing the blackbird wings as she escapes to the north at the end of the novel. There are two unambiguous themes that the book center around: friendship and equality. As a reader, both of these themes encapsulate the reader as the novel progresses and almost allow the reader to have a personal connection with the characters. Unlike other novels that only show positives and joyful experiences, Handful and Sarah experience a roller coaster of a friendship because of their differing backgrounds. Both of these characters must overcome their own issues, which sometimes created distance and heartache between the two. In part one of the novel, Handful talks about a pure love between her and Sarah and it shows their innocence as children and the friendship that they both had: People say love gets fouled by a difference big as ours. The minimum wage is the least amount a worker can be paid at a job, by federal law. The present minimum wage is set at seven dollars and 25 cents. For those who have already earned a higher pay due to noticeably hard work or time spent working for a company, the raise of minimum wage would cause the experienced workers to demand more. If the company is already struggling to pay the difference of the raised minimum wage, there will be no option but to either refuse the request of an experienced worker or fire employees. In addition for those who have not been convicted, it is questionable whether the law is unprincipled as it is unclear about the moral obligation that individuals have to act and when a moral obligation is a legal obligation. Lord Diplock stated, I see no rational ground for excluding from conduct capable of giving rise to criminal liability conduct which consists of failing to take measures that lie within one s powers to counteract a danger that one has created 3. This statement emphasises that the focus is the danger created however the crime is damaging property thus the argument being used to prove his guilt does not quite match the crime as no one beside himself would have been harmed. In fact, £800 of damage was done thus maybe a fine would have been more appropriate sanction than a sentence. It can thus be suggested that the law requires individuals to put right that which goes wrong 4 and in not doing so, the defendant may have become a victim of the judges morals impacting the case ultimately suggesting that although there is no written law, individuals are essentially forced into behaving in a manner which would be considered noble. This also suggest that the law is unprincipled in its approach to deciding weather the failure to act should result in criminal liability. The case of R v Stone, R v Dobinson further supports this argument as the defendants have also been convicted on the failure to act, however, it could be argued that in comparison to Miller, Stone and Dobinson have no direct cause of the incident. • 23. The Nature of Thought in Joyce Essay The Nature of Thought in Joyce Thought is a problem in Joyce s work. His characters obscure trains of thought and remembrance constantly challenge the reader to keep up. I will argue that the depths of this obscurity are not, in fact, murky; they are a response to his introspection about the nature of thought, and reflect a coherent theory. Joyce often repeats phrases, and he makes such repetitions noticeable in order to direct the reader to the questions: What is thought? And what are the unconscious processes of the mind? His characters are unpredictable, experiencing truly surprising emotional reactions. This unexpectedness adds depth and verisimilitude to characterization; as in life, the strongest emotional experiences are ones ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He decides that, since his speech has been so successful, it would be safer not to risk offense, and hastens to his close (139). The events of the story, and not so much Gabriel, are the reason he chooses to leave the quotation out. There is another factor that contributes to his willingness to drop the verses: he has already accomplished his aim of working in Browning, by spontaneously borrowing from his own review of the poet s recent work: But we are living in a skeptical and, if I may use the phrase, a thought tormented age (138). His original words were One feels that one is listened to a thought tormented music (130). Because the article is on Gabriel s mind (after his confrontation with Miss Ivors), the phrase thought tormented is there for him to use. The fact that he does preface it with if I may use the phrase suggests that he is aware of what he is doing. However, Gabriel makes two other crucial word choices that are unconscious but telling. They are apparent under a close reading, and even produce a vague feeling of familiarity under casual reading. He writes about what he experiences such as the feeling of being the first passengers to Mars, seeing the technologies that recycle water, eating fresh produce in space, and the final landing on Mars a year later and watching the rovers that landed before him moving about. Many problems of space travel stem from the fact that supplies are limited in space. A trip to Mars with current technologies would take eight months to travel to Mars and that is just robotic missions (NASA 2012a). This presents an obvious problem that a space flight can only carry a limited amount of food, water, and air. Any system also needs to be powered by electricity. Current food technology consists of prepackaged food. There are a couple problems that space food has to be able to solve. One problem is that space food has to not just float around and get into vents, crevices, and machinery. This is a hazard that scientists have to keep in mind when making food. Also, it should be long lasting enough to last in space until a resupply. The food the astronauts eat in the International Space Station right now are all packaged food sent up from earth. Monitoring And Controlling Blood Glucose Levels Worldwide, diabetes is a rapidly growing problem that is managed at the individual level by monitoring and controlling blood glucose levels to minimize the negative effects of the disease. Because of limitations in diagnostic methods, significant research efforts are focused on developing improved methods to measure glucose. Nanotechnology has impacted these efforts by increasing the surface area of sensors, improving the catalytic properties of electrodes and providing nanoscale sensors. Herein, we discuss the developments in the past several years on both nanosensors that directly measure glucose as well as nanomaterials that improve glucose sensor function. Diabetes is a rapidly growing problem, currently affecting 300 million people worldwide . and its incidence is expected to increase rapidly in the coming decades[0]. Diabetes can lead to complications such as serious as lower limb amputations, blindness, and cardiovascular disease [1].Continuous and accurate monitoring of patient blood glucose levels is critical for diagnosis and management of the disease. In order to attain optimal control, patients must monitor their blood glucose levels. Currently, this requires a patient to obtain a small sample of blood, usually via a finger prick.
