Writing Techniques of Emily Dickinson Essay
Emily Dickinson is one of the most interesting female poets of the nineteenth century. Every author
has unique characteristics about him/her that make one poet different from another, but what cause
Emily Dickinson to be so unique are not only the words she writes, but how she writes them. Her style
of writing is in a category of its own. To understand how and why she writes the way she does, her
background has to be brought into perspective. Every poet has inspiration, negative or positive, that
contributes not only to the content of the writing itself, but the actual form of writing the author uses
to express his/her personal talents. Emily Dickinson is no different. Her childhood and adult
experiences and culture form ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The controversy surrounding Emily Dickinson is her odd lifestyle and her tendencies to be somewhat
of a recluse. She is sometimes considered abnormal because she does things differently from most
others. She spends much of her life dressed in white and withdrawn from much of society. Of course,
her peers take this negatively, but what they do not understand is that her being so private is more of a
meditation to her, instead of a hiding. She just wants to escape the pressures she feels are normally
required of women. She does not want to be a servant to sick and elderly. She feels she has more
potential for her mind to grow, and those obligations would just be hindrances to her writing
(McQuade 1255). Her childhood and her staying out of society as an adult, along with many other
aspects known and not known, influence her poems and the style in which she goes about writing the
works. Her techniques of writing are completely different from any other writer, whether prose or
poetry. Dickinson composes her phrases by marking them off with a dash, placing a space before and
after. This small maneuver places more emphasis on her impress of the mind in its analysis of
experience (McQuade 1256). Her slant thymes and unique form of expression produces more of an
oddness to the audience.
One of Emily Dickinson s unique forms of writing is her excessive use

Gary Sinise Foundation Essay
The Gary Sinise Foundation: Fighting for Fighters In the United States, there has been an ongoing
issue with respect and service for it s military men and women. There are, however, many people who
stand up for those brave fighters, one of them being a man named Gary Sinise. Gary has always felt a
need to honor and serve those who defend or have defended the nation. In 1994, he portrayed the role
of Lt. Dan Taylor in the famous film Forrest Gump, which has created a powerful bond between
himself and the military community. He has dedicated most of his life to finding ways to serve those

Federated Department Stores made a decision in 2005 to reposition and consolidate 15 of its regional
department store chains under just one national brand Macy s. This decision was in response to the
decline in sales and profits that had hit the traditional department store industry, which was in a
maturing stage and moving towards a downward trend for some time. Just three years later, in 2008,
U.S. economy was hit with a recession that threatened the livelihood of many successful retail giants.
While Macy s did experience a significant drop in revenue in 2008 with a net loss of $4,803 million,
compared to other department stores such as Mervyn s that went bankrupt when the recession hit,
Macy s managed to stay in the game. Macy s ability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, Macy s launched Everyday Value strategy program that promoted value pricing such that
customers would be able to purchase products without having to wait for sales day and the availability
of coupons to get the most bang for their buck. In this way, Macy s would have a better chance to stay
close to its customers, provide affordable luxury and find a viable middle ground. While consolidation
and repositioning efforts had their benefits, there were some challenges. Change is often very difficult
as most individuals are creatures of habit. Thus, consolidation of department stores to one brand (in
this case Macy s) meant that existing consumers who had regularly shopped at their favorite
department stores (such as Marshall Field s in Chicago) would now have to adjust to new products,
prices and services. In fact, the perception of some loyal consumers post consolidation was negative,
complaining that Macy s store had lower quality products and services. In addition, Macy s had
standardized its products and pricing nationwide to lower purchasing cost, however this tactic actually
backfired. Standardization resulted in higher prices of products offered at Macy s compared to the
former regional department stores chains, thus consumers were apprehensive to shop at the

Mary Anne Warren Analysis
Mary Anne Warren argues in the position that abortion is morally permissible because the fetus is not
a person therefore has no rights and not considered immoral to be killed. I shall argue that Warren s
argument in invalid since the claims of argument cannot be proven. The general argument made from
Warren is (1) If a person, they have the right to life, (2) The fetus is not considered a person, and (3)
Therefore, since the fetus is not a person they do not have a right to life. Also, (4) A human being
needs all the morals of personhood to be considered a person, (5) An infant does not have morals, and
(6) Therefore, an infant is not a person because the do not have the morals to be considered a person.
From the time that Warren s article. On the Moral and Legal Status of Abortion , was published she
had gotten critiques that her argument appears to justify not only abortion, but infanticide as well.
(Warren, 16) Warren claims that if her argument is valid then infanticide is not a form of murder, since
you are not killing a person. A human being is a person if they have the previous characteristics of
personhood introduced into her argument. According to Warren ... Show more content on

Her argument does not specify if the same reasoning can be applied to fetuses. Not specifying which
certain traits are needed to be classified as a person opens up questions for critics saying that it is not
wrong for infanticide because an infant is not more of a person than a fetus according to her
arguments. Although her response about this is that infanticide is not just because it deprives the
infants from people that care about them and can find happiness along their side. A person might want
to raise these infants and the reason why they should be put into orphanages. In the end Warren s
argument is contradicting that infanticide is morally wrong because it deprives form having

Why Polygraph Is Important
The polygraph is a device that is used by law enforcement to see if a suspect is lying. It measures a
person`s emotional response, assuming that a person will be anxious while lying. This device is
commonly used by law enforcement and has been shown to work, although it has made errors, as well
as suspects, have found techniques to beat the test. Another test has been created the Guilty
Knowledge Test (GKT), which does show promise, and is harder to beat.
The polygraph test is believed to work because an anxious or the detection of a strong emotional
response will supposedly show that a person is not being truthful, though it has worked in many
instances it is not completely accurate as a suspect may be anxious for other reasons.
The polygraph is usually accurate, as it does monitor biological changes moment by moment. In most
cases the test is accurate and can detect changes in blood pressure and other markers, however, some
people are not anxious when lying and others have found ways to cheat the test. ... Show more content

A suspect may not have committed the crime and are nervous about having to do a polygraph test, this
reaction could be misread on a polygraph. A suspect can also trick the polygraph test resulting in a

that may not always be the case, a criminal could feel completely at ease while lying and be let go.
Another method that could be used to trick the polygraph test is to show an anxious response even
when telling the truth on neutral questions to throw off the

Beriberi In Developing Countries
In the 19th century, an increasing number of Asians were experiencing loss of appetite, weakness, and
edema, among other symptoms, making it difficult to perform daily activities. This disorder, known as
beriberi, appeared after the exclusive use of polished rice as a staple in these countries (Wooley,
2009). In 1926, thiamin deficiency was discovered to be the cause of this disease (Dinicolantonio,
Niazi, Lavie, O keefe, Ventura, 2013). While beriberi is mostly found in developing countries where
grains are not enriched with thiamin, this deficiency is also associated with alcoholism, malnutrition,
chronic renal failure, diuretic use, and heart failure in the Western world. Heart failure is a condition in
which the myocardium is unable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, loop diuretics can initiate or further exacerbate thiamin deficiency. This relationship was
first described in 1980 when the administration of loop diuretics in rats increased urinary excretion of
thiamin after 4 weeks, suggesting that long term therapy promotes deficiency (Yiu, Itokawa Kuwai,
1980). The renal excretion of thiamin is directly dependent on urine flow, which is increased with
diuretic medication (Wooley, 2009). Further, thiamin is not protein bound, and is therefore easily
filtered at the site of the glomerulus. A particular diuretic called furosemide decreases thiamin uptake
by cardiac myocytes A particular diuretic called furosemide not only hyper excretes thiamin, but it
also minimizes thiamin s entry into heart cells (Dinicolantonio et al., 2013). Therefore, administration
of this medication may further affect heart contractility since myocardial cells are deprived of thiamin,
preventing the decarboxylation reaction necessary in pyruvate s conversion to acetyl CoA and slowing

Different Forms Of Co Teaching
Lauren Dursky and I decided that we would implement different forms of co teaching for different
subjects. It did not seem efficient to use the same method for each subject, so we decided to vary the
instruction. For math, we decided to use station teaching. This allows students to discover a true
understanding of each concept through different activities. This style of co teaching also allows each
teacher to incorporate his or her own unique perspective into the classroom. This style could be
challenging for math because it requires extra planning and you have to make sure both teachers are
teaching similar methods at the same time so movement from one station to the next is smooth. We
then decided to use the teaming method for history. The teaming method allows both teachers to
present their own views to the class and bounce ideas off of each other (The Power of 2, 2005).
Instead of using textbooks to teach history, we decided to take a concept and explore its significance
through events and debates. We would start off by each presenting a different point of view on a single
event and have students divide into two groups based on their initial thoughts. Each teacher would
then lead their portion of the class through research and constructing a debate. After a couple days
spent learning about the situation and preparing an argument, the two halves of the class would
debate.
For language arts we decided to use the parallel teaching method. This method allows for small

Evil Natures In Lord Of The Flies By William Golding
Every human has different attributes and abilities, but under the circumstance between death and
survival the evil natures of human beings seem to show. In William Golding s novel, Lord of the flies
he displays many different signs on how there s evil natures in every human being. Jack represents
evil and violence, Roger represents strength and human savagery, the group of boys represented
cruelty inhuman actions, Kill the pig! Cut his throat! Kill the pig! Bash him in.
Firstly, Roger a young boy who had been stranded on the island with the group of children displayed
many times the evil natures in human beings. Roger feels no remorse for his action and when the
group frees Roger from the restraints of decency, an effect he feels as a sense of delirious
abandonment which essentially is a big part in his later on actions. Roger was the offender during
Piggy s death, as Ralph was assisting Piggy with finding his glasses, as he can t see without them.
Roger decides to plan out a first degree murder as he pushes the rock onto Piggy which unfortunately
results in the cause to his death, The desire to squeeze and hurt was over mastering. Roger is one who
enjoys the harm of others, and essentially just likes to hurt people as he displayed evil natures just in
his personality through this whole novel. As Roger displays another act of evil as he throws stones at
Henry as he was walking down the shoreline of the island, with the pure mindset of evil itself.
Secondly, Jack

Auckland, New Zealand, the Second Industrial Revolution (1840 1870) influenced rapid development
with a growth in transport, factored by a new ideological theory which promoted productivity, through
advancements in technology. These factors helped change the status of Auckland, known as the oldest
city in New Zealand (Bloomfield.G 1967), to the largest and most modern city (Bloomfield,G 1967)
in New Zealand, influencing the role of urbanisation to the economic and social stature of the city
through till the early 20th century. Conversely, London also developed through the Industrial
Revolution with similar trends in development but to a greater extent given its status as a trade capital
and the population density influencing the process of urbanisation. Through strict comparison of both
cities, this essay will provide a thorough analysis of the pressures and opportunities created by the

Greek Burial
Burials are one of the most used archaeological sites for scholars to gain insight and information on all
civilizations, and in this case Greek civilizations. In his book Ethnic Identity, Stuart Hall makes a
strong argument illustrating that social structures may be articulated and projected through funerary
ritual and this may be undeniable (). Greek burial customs depict a parallel with society and their
standards of living throughout time; focusing on the Bronze Age and into the Classical Period, the
changing society of Ancient Greek shows the development of these burials.

LSD and the Psychedelic Scene Essay
In the sixties, the psychedelic music scene was at its prime and the world was full of hippies. During
this time, drugs were a very popular part of the hippie culture and the prevalence of LSD helped to
create the distinct genre of psychedelic music. Many bands and artists such as The Beatles, The Byrds,
Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, and Grateful Dead were heavily influenced by LSD, which led to the
creation of some great music. This decade was full of adventure, music, sex, drugs, and exploration,
which was all made possible due to this powerful and trippy drug. Before jumping into the details of
the psychedelic scene one needs to know the history of lysergic acid diethylamide and how it came to
be such an important part of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many references to LSD in songs from this time due to the big influence it had on the artists
who wrote them. In order to produce the psychedelic feel, the artists would write esoteric lyrics, often
describing dreams, visions, or hallucinations as well as other techniques such as distorting the sound,
playing sections of the song backwards, and delaying sounds. Another important part of psychedelic
rock is the influence of Indian music. Bands such as The Beatles popularized this technique of using
exotic instruments like the sitar, the tambura, and the tabla in their music (Psychedelic Rock). LSD
started being associated with music when Ken Kasey would hold acid tests (essentially big parties
where everyone was given the drug) where Grateful Dead, formerly known as Warlocks, would play
as the house band. These parties gave them recognition in the San Francisco area and their popularity
soon skyrocketed. Although their studio albums were not a great hit, their live concerts were very
popular (Keno). This lead the way to concerts surrounded by the use of LSD. Everyone would indulge
in the substance and then music would be played for everyone to enjoy. This was a very common
practice among artists and music listeners in the sixties as places like the Avalon Ballroom and the
Fillmore Auditorium soon began popping up in the San Francisco area. In order to inform the public
of these new events, people would put up posters on

Social Construction Of Gender And Gender Roles
While observing interactions between people of both different and the same genders in the park at
Orange Circle, it becomes evident how the social construction of gender and standard gender roles
may or may not follow archetypal manner and can be applied differently depending on the individuals.
Some of the observations recorded during this period have provided evidence that gender roles and
gender stereotypes may be followed or applied in an archetypal way. However, what is most
interesting is that the observation of select individuals has delineated the manner by which certain
aspects of gender roles are shown to be subverted, challenged, or even reversed. Based on these
observations, it can be surmised that people may have a choice in the ways in which the social
construction of gender does and does not apply to their lives. As was stated in the introduction, some
of the interactions recorded during the observation showed the ways in which socially constructed
gender roles are reinforced. This is best exemplified by the interaction between two small children, a
girl and a boy, who were playing by the fountain located in the center of the park. The young boy can
be described as exhibiting rather aggressive behaviors that include but are not limited to pushing and
shoving, throwing objects, and shouting. In contrast, the young girl behaves in a much more
submissive manner, reacting to the boy s actions by giggling, smiling and squealing. This example

Air Pollution And Its Effects On The World
ABSTRACT
Present day scenario of Delhi in terms of air pollution is undermining and is predicted to continue
growing on that front. The air quality, in fact, is the worst of all the major cities in the world. One of
the reasons for the suffering air quality is Vehicular Pollution which is mainly due to the fuels. This
paper mainly intensifies on the use of CNG instead of Petroleum based fuels like petrol and diesel. It
compares all of the above with respect to pollution control as well as the expenses associated with
their use to suit the general public. This paper provides the current status of the use of these fuels and
their preferences.
INTRODUCTION
Normal human activity is more harmful for nature than the greatest wars or nuclear explosions in
history. For the last decade, pollution has been on a steep rise all across the world with air pollution
taking a lead. In India, particularly in Delhi, the level of pollution is scarily high making it the
eleventh most polluted metropolis in the world[1]. A considerable role in pollution is played by Air
pollution. Air pollution is caused by road dust, industrial gases, vehicular pollution, burning of solid
wastes and concrete batching[2].
Vehicular Pollution is due to emissions from vehicle including PM10 and PM2.5, Sulphur Oxides,
Nitrogen Oxides, Volatile organic compounds, CO, air pollutants including Benzene, Carbon di oxide

the anonymity of the soldiers is also augmented, leaving the reader to again question who exactly they

Essay on The Effect of God on Robinson Crusoe
It has been observed that when placed in harsh or unusual conditions, people tend to look to spiritual
support to help them overcome adversity. In Robinson Crusoe, Daniel Defoe not only depicts the
struggle of a man abandoned on a deserted island, but also depicts Crusoe s repentance for past
disobedience against his father and humanity as well as his acceptance of religion into his life. Crusoe
s religious beliefs, however, do not remain consistent; in fact, he later uses religion as a justification
for murder and other immoral acts. Crusoe accepts religion into his life, repenting for his sins
throughout the novel, however his faith is not genuine, only becoming strong when he experiences

However, unlike the custom of the times, Crusoe carves out a dedication I came on shore here of the
30th of Sept. 1659 (Defoe 61) as opposed to a tribute to God or Christ. Next, in his journal, Crusoe
begins to relieve himself by listing both the good and evil of his situation. Crusoe confronted with
tragedy quickly takes religion into his life, but once again the sincerity in his beliefs can easily be
questioned by the reader. Additionally, once Crusoe is settled into his life on the island, he forgets his
commitment to religion until he becomes deathly ill. In his journal he writes Very ill, frighted almost
to death with the apprehension of my sad condition ... Prayed to God for the first time since the storm
off Hull (Defoe 84). His strength returns soon then suddenly he falls back into sickness. During this fit
of illness he cries out for God to pity and have mercy on him. After waking up feeling better, but
thirsty, Crusoe lies in bed and falls back to sleep. While asleep, Crusoe experiences a vision of a man
descending from the clouds. The apparition approaches Crusoe, saying Seeing all these things have
not brought thee to repentance, now thou shalt die (Defoe 85). Crusoe finally realizes all the
wickedness in his life, such as disobeying his father and participating in the slave trade for his own
profit. While suffering in sickness for another day, at last

Reducing Congestive Heart Failure Complications
Individuals with end stage decompensated congestive heart failure (CHF) will often be admitted to the
hospital when complications arise. This is often the case because treatments (such as intravenous
medications) needed to deal with the various complications of CHF require interventions that need to
be administered by a team of medical staff with close monitoring of the patient. According to the CDC
website report Hospitalizations for Congestive Heart Failure: United States 2000 2010, 5.8 million
people suffer from CHF in the United States, and hospitalization rates for individuals under the age of
65 with CHF increased significantly from 23% to 29% with rates for men higher compared to women.
Fluid retention that is unresponsive to oral diuretic treatments is one of the most common situations
that lead to a hospital admission (Austin, Hockey, Williams, Hutchison, 2013). Detecting early signs
of decompensated heart failure could help reduce the need for a hospital admission and improve the
quality of life for those with end stage CHF by allowing treatment to occur in the home setting that
might normally be provided in the hospital

Ratio or Quick Ratio: The liquidity ratio or quick ratio according to Sobel, M MBA in a nutshell , is
another measure of short term solvency, in relative terms. This is considered a conservative indicator,
according to Sobel, M MBA in a nutshell , given that the assets represented in the numerator of the
ratio do not include inventory, which is difficult to liquidate quickly. The formula that expresses this
is:
Liquidity ratio = Cash + accounts receivable + marketable securities divided by Current liabilities
Placing the values from the balance sheet into the formula
Liquidity ratio = $10,972.18 divided by $4,073 = 2.7

The Character Of Naomi Nakane In Obasan, By Joy Kogawa
Naomi is always the good, silent child who does what s expected of her, she takes whatever is given to
her, for awhile without any complaints. In Joy Kogawa s novel, Obasan, the main character, Naomi
Nakane, chronicles her life with distance, and it is through minor character like her brother, Stephen,
and their actions that we see the depth and impact of Naomi s passive nature.
At the start of the book, Naomi describes herself as being a part of her mother, like a branch to a tree.
She often hides behind her mother and is completely silent. Stephen on the other hand, is the star
child; musically gifted from birth. With [his] practice time each night (Kogawa 62) Naomi was
constantly forced to listen to Stephen play his music, and as a child she would sit and watch him, but
not just him, it would be her father and mother, too. Everyone in Naomi s immediate family had some

had that could compete with her brother s intelligence and musical talent. And so this, along with other

is practice for the future, and practice makes perfect. But nobody s perfect, so why practice? (Billie
Joe Armstrong). But he hasn t done this alone he is in the band with Tré Cool and Mike Dirnt. Green
Day is a great band because it became so well known so quick and is still playing to this day. Some
say that Billie is weird. I think he s just not afraid to show who he is, instead of hiding behind a fake
personality just because everyone else does it. He knows other people will have their opinions but he
doesn t care about what they think and say. I think more people would like punk if they stopped

Similarities And Differences Between Acidosis And Alkalosis
Differences between Acidosis and Alkalosis
Acidosis is when the pH of one s blood is below the normal level of 7.35. Alkalosis is when the pH of
one s blood is above 7.45. These can be broken down into two categories respiratory and metabolic.
Normal oxygen (CO2) levels are 35 45 mmHg in systemic arterial blood. Normal levels for HCO3−
22 26mEq/liter in systemic arterial blood.
Respiratory Acidosis occurs when the lungs cannot remove all the carbon dioxide that the body
makes. In turn this makes fluid in the body become too acidic. The distinctive feature of respiratory
acidosis is an abnormally high PCO2, meaning above 45 mmHg. Improper exhalation of oxygen can
cause the blood pH to drop. Any condition that decreases the movement of CO2 from the blood to the
alveoli of the lungs to the atmosphere causes a buildup of CO2, H2CO3, and H+ (Tortora, 2014,
p.1036) . Symptoms of this condition may include: confusion, lethargy, fatigue, sleepiness, and
shortness of breath. Probable causes are: obesity, disease of the chest, diseases of the lungs and
airways, and drugs that suppress breathing (MedlinePLus, 2012). A health care provider will perform a
physical exam to see if this is what is happening. He may do so by: arterial blood gas which measures
oxygen and carbon dioxide levels in the blood, basic metabolic panel, a chest x ray, or possibly a
pulmonary function test (MedlinePLus, 2012). Treatment is mainly aimed at the underlying cause not
at condition itself. It is treated

Oscar Wilde Satire In The Importance Of Being Earnest
Sofi Sosa
Professor Klein
British Literature
11 December 2017
Oscar Wilde s The Importance of Being Earnest presents a satirical play that is used to emphasize the
insignificance and absurdity of certain rules within Victorian society. The main characters in the play
characterize Victorian high society; therefore, the criticism that arises from Wilde s exaggeration
extends further than the play itself. More specifically, Wilde exaggerates the consumption of food,
something that seems to be routine in everyday life. Wilde plays on this theme of presenting such an
ordinary event as an emotionally moving experience. He does this by making a connection between
the presentation of food and a characters feeling of emotion that is unusual during the Victorian
society.
During the Victorian society, it was considered disrespectful for members of the upper classes of
society to show conflicting and personal feelings. In public, any kind of overbearing emotions needed
to be prevented in order to maintain proper appropriateness. In response to these societal rules, Oscar
Wilde uses the characters exaggeration of their food intake to represent the emotions that they are
unable to show. By using food to mask and restrain unpleasant feelings like lust, aggression, and
stress, Wilde conveys the Victorian Era s dislike towards public displays of such emotions.
Through discussing one s feelings of sexual desires, rules of the political system regarding polite
conversation were

  • 2. Writing Techniques of Emily Dickinson Essay Emily Dickinson is one of the most interesting female poets of the nineteenth century. Every author has unique characteristics about him/her that make one poet different from another, but what cause Emily Dickinson to be so unique are not only the words she writes, but how she writes them. Her style of writing is in a category of its own. To understand how and why she writes the way she does, her background has to be brought into perspective. Every poet has inspiration, negative or positive, that contributes not only to the content of the writing itself, but the actual form of writing the author uses to express his/her personal talents. Emily Dickinson is no different. Her childhood and adult experiences and culture form ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The controversy surrounding Emily Dickinson is her odd lifestyle and her tendencies to be somewhat of a recluse. She is sometimes considered abnormal because she does things differently from most others. She spends much of her life dressed in white and withdrawn from much of society. Of course, her peers take this negatively, but what they do not understand is that her being so private is more of a meditation to her, instead of a hiding. She just wants to escape the pressures she feels are normally required of women. She does not want to be a servant to sick and elderly. She feels she has more potential for her mind to grow, and those obligations would just be hindrances to her writing (McQuade 1255). Her childhood and her staying out of society as an adult, along with many other aspects known and not known, influence her poems and the style in which she goes about writing the works. Her techniques of writing are completely different from any other writer, whether prose or poetry. Dickinson composes her phrases by marking them off with a dash, placing a space before and after. This small maneuver places more emphasis on her impress of the mind in its analysis of experience (McQuade 1256). Her slant thymes and unique form of expression produces more of an oddness to the audience. One of Emily Dickinson s unique forms of writing is her excessive use ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This decision was in response to the decline in sales and profits that had hit the traditional department store industry, which was in a maturing stage and moving towards a downward trend for some time. Just three years later, in 2008, U.S. economy was hit with a recession that threatened the livelihood of many successful retail giants. In addition, Macy s launched Everyday Value strategy program that promoted value pricing such that customers would be able to purchase products without having to wait for sales day and the availability of coupons to get the most bang for their buck. In this way, Macy s would have a better chance to stay close to its customers, provide affordable luxury and find a viable middle ground. While consolidation and repositioning efforts had their benefits, there were some challenges. Change is often very difficult as most individuals are creatures of habit. Thus, consolidation of department stores to one brand (in this case Macy s) meant that existing consumers who had regularly shopped at their favorite department stores (such as Marshall Field s in Chicago) would now have to adjust to new products, prices and services. In fact, the perception of some loyal consumers post consolidation was negative, complaining that Macy s store had lower quality products and services. In addition, Macy s had standardized its products and pricing nationwide to lower purchasing cost, however this tactic actually backfired. Standardization resulted in higher prices of products offered at Macy s compared to the former regional department stores chains, thus consumers were apprehensive to shop at the ... Mary Anne Warren Analysis Mary Anne Warren argues in the position that abortion is morally permissible because the fetus is not a person therefore has no rights and not considered immoral to be killed. I shall argue that Warren s argument in invalid since the claims of argument cannot be proven. The general argument made from Warren is (1) If a person, they have the right to life, (2) The fetus is not considered a person, and (3) Therefore, since the fetus is not a person they do not have a right to life. Also, (4) A human being needs all the morals of personhood to be considered a person, (5) An infant does not have morals, and (6) Therefore, an infant is not a person because the do not have the morals to be considered a person. From the time that Warren s article. This relationship was first described in 1980 when the administration of loop diuretics in rats increased urinary excretion of thiamin after 4 weeks, suggesting that long term therapy promotes deficiency (Yiu, Itokawa Kuwai, 1980). The renal excretion of thiamin is directly dependent on urine flow, which is increased with diuretic medication (Wooley, 2009). Further, thiamin is not protein bound, and is therefore easily filtered at the site of the glomerulus. A particular diuretic called furosemide decreases thiamin uptake by cardiac myocytes A particular diuretic called furosemide not only hyper excretes thiamin, but it also minimizes thiamin s entry into heart cells (Dinicolantonio et al., 2013). • 13. Different Forms Of Co Teaching Lauren Dursky and I decided that we would implement different forms of co teaching for different subjects. It did not seem efficient to use the same method for each subject, so we decided to vary the instruction. For math, we decided to use station teaching. This allows students to discover a true understanding of each concept through different activities. This style of co teaching also allows each teacher to incorporate his or her own unique perspective into the classroom. This style could be challenging for math because it requires extra planning and you have to make sure both teachers are teaching similar methods at the same time so movement from one station to the next is smooth. We then decided to use the teaming method for history. The teaming method allows both teachers to present their own views to the class and bounce ideas off of each other (The Power of 2, 2005). Instead of using textbooks to teach history, we decided to take a concept and explore its significance through events and debates. We would start off by each presenting a different point of view on a single event and have students divide into two groups based on their initial thoughts. Each teacher would then lead their portion of the class through research and constructing a debate. After a couple days spent learning about the situation and preparing an argument, the two halves of the class would debate. For language arts we decided to use the parallel teaching method. Many bands and artists such as The Beatles, The Byrds, Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, and Grateful Dead were heavily influenced by LSD, which led to the creation of some great music. This decade was full of adventure, music, sex, drugs, and exploration, which was all made possible due to this powerful and trippy drug. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many references to LSD in songs from this time due to the big influence it had on the artists who wrote them. In order to produce the psychedelic feel, the artists would write esoteric lyrics, often describing dreams, visions, or hallucinations as well as other techniques such as distorting the sound, playing sections of the song backwards, and delaying sounds. Another important part of psychedelic rock is the influence of Indian music. Bands such as The Beatles popularized this technique of using exotic instruments like the sitar, the tambura, and the tabla in their music (Psychedelic Rock). LSD started being associated with music when Ken Kasey would hold acid tests (essentially big parties where everyone was given the drug) where Grateful Dead, formerly known as Warlocks, would play as the house band. These parties gave them recognition in the San Francisco area and their popularity soon skyrocketed. Although their studio albums were not a great hit, their live concerts were very popular (Keno). This lead the way to concerts surrounded by the use of LSD. Everyone would indulge in the substance and then music would be played for everyone to enjoy. Social Construction Of Gender And Gender Roles While observing interactions between people of both different and the same genders in the park at Orange Circle, it becomes evident how the social construction of gender and standard gender roles may or may not follow archetypal manner and can be applied differently depending on the individuals. Some of the observations recorded during this period have provided evidence that gender roles and gender stereotypes may be followed or applied in an archetypal way. However, what is most interesting is that the observation of select individuals has delineated the manner by which certain aspects of gender roles are shown to be subverted, challenged, or even reversed. Based on these observations, it can be surmised that people may have a choice in the ways in which the social construction of gender does and does not apply to their lives. As was stated in the introduction, some of the interactions recorded during the observation showed the ways in which socially constructed gender roles are reinforced. This is best exemplified by the interaction between two small children, a girl and a boy, who were playing by the fountain located in the center of the park. The young boy can be described as exhibiting rather aggressive behaviors that include but are not limited to pushing and shoving, throwing objects, and shouting. In contrast, the young girl behaves in a much more submissive manner, reacting to the boy s actions by giggling, smiling and squealing. This example provides ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Essay on The Effect of God on Robinson Crusoe It has been observed that when placed in harsh or unusual conditions, people tend to look to spiritual support to help them overcome adversity. In Robinson Crusoe, Daniel Defoe not only depicts the struggle of a man abandoned on a deserted island, but also depicts Crusoe s repentance for past disobedience against his father and humanity as well as his acceptance of religion into his life. Crusoe s religious beliefs, however, do not remain consistent; in fact, he later uses religion as a justification for murder and other immoral acts. The apparition approaches Crusoe, saying Seeing all these things have not brought thee to repentance, now thou shalt die (Defoe 85). Alkalosis is when the pH of one s blood is above 7.45. These can be broken down into two categories respiratory and metabolic. Normal oxygen (CO2) levels are 35 45 mmHg in systemic arterial blood. Normal levels for HCO3− 22 26mEq/liter in systemic arterial blood. Respiratory Acidosis occurs when the lungs cannot remove all the carbon dioxide that the body makes. In turn this makes fluid in the body become too acidic. The distinctive feature of respiratory acidosis is an abnormally high PCO2, meaning above 45 mmHg. Improper exhalation of oxygen can cause the blood pH to drop. Any condition that decreases the movement of CO2 from the blood to the alveoli of the lungs to the atmosphere causes a buildup of CO2, H2CO3, and H+ (Tortora, 2014, p.1036) . Symptoms of this condition may include: confusion, lethargy, fatigue, sleepiness, and shortness of breath. Probable causes are: obesity, disease of the chest, diseases of the lungs and airways, and drugs that suppress breathing (MedlinePLus, 2012). Oscar Wilde Satire In The Importance Of Being Earnest Sofi Sosa Professor Klein British Literature 11 December 2017 Oscar Wilde s The Importance of Being Earnest presents a satirical play that is used to emphasize the insignificance and absurdity of certain rules within Victorian society. The main characters in the play characterize Victorian high society; therefore, the criticism that arises from Wilde s exaggeration extends further than the play itself. More specifically, Wilde exaggerates the consumption of food, something that seems to be routine in everyday life. Wilde plays on this theme of presenting such an ordinary event as an emotionally moving experience. He does this by making a connection between the presentation of food and a characters feeling of emotion that is unusual during the Victorian society. During the Victorian society, it was considered disrespectful for members of the upper classes of society to show conflicting and personal feelings. In public, any kind of overbearing emotions needed to be prevented in order to maintain proper appropriateness. In response to these societal rules, Oscar Wilde uses the characters exaggeration of their food intake to represent the emotions that they are unable to show. By using food to mask and restrain unpleasant feelings like lust, aggression, and stress, Wilde conveys the Victorian Era s dislike towards public displays of such emotions.
