Analysis Of Mirror By Sylvia Plath
Mirrors reflect the innermost part of the soul. A mirror can show you at your most beautiful and your
most unpleasant times. Sylvia Plath s poem Mirrors , conveys a message that is much deeper than the
words printed on the page. The denotation of Mirrors provides the reader a basic reading of the poem,
whereas the connotation gives a deeper meaning to the work. Plath s word usage conveys two
meanings to Mirrors , allowing the reader to better personalize the work. I am silver and exact. I have
no preconceptions. / Whatever I see I swallow immediately / Just as it is, unmisted by love or dislike. /
(Plath 739 lines 1 3) Reading these lines obviously describe a mirror. The mirror is a first person
narrator describing itself; it is silver and exact with no preconceptions . It takes in whatever looks at it
and feels no emotion towards it. Studying the text shows a deeper meaning. The mirror is exact,
nothing is wrong with the object itself. The mirror does not have any feelings, it will not judge
whomever is looking into it. Whatever looks into the mirror will see its entire self, without filters of
love or dislike. The next lines follow I am not cruel, only truthful / The eye of a little god, four
cornered. / (Plath lines 4 5) The mirror is not mean, it only shows the object its true reflection. It
seems to be a god like entity since it sees all. The connotation is seen as the mirror shows you who
you truly are. It casts back an image that some are happy with

The Building Blocks Of Successful Leadership Essay
4 The building blocks of successful leadership pipeline
Despite the benefits listed above, leadership succession remains a cause of concern for a number of
organisations. DDI s Global Leadership Forecast from 2011 showed how only 38% of participating
leaders said the quality of leadership within their organisation is either very good or excellent. More
importantly, only 18% of HR professionals in the same survey felt the organisations have a strong
bench to respond to future needs. In order to make the most of the leadership pipeline model,
organisations must also focus on the following four elements.
A simple system with buy in from the senior leadership team
The focus should be on creating a clear and simple pipeline framework. The more complex the
program, the more it risks failing at some point. If the organisation is able to reduce the bureaucracy
required to run the system, then it ensures the system is based on clarity and effectiveness. One way to
remove complexity from the system is by narrowing its focus. The processes used must be focused on
the actual objectives and needs of the organisation. There s no reason to add broadness by creating a
far reaching process when there is no need for it. The scope is at its best when it doesn t focus on
every person within the organisation, but narrows the effort down towards a few key players.
Furthermore, it s important to ensure the system is flexible enough to respond the changing needs
within the organisation.

The Effects Of Social Media On Corporate Bad News And A...
Social media has become prominently popular. Tens of millions of users login to social media sites
like Twitter to disseminate breaking news and share their opinions and thoughts. For businesses, social
media is potentially useful for monitoring the public perception and the social reputation of companies
and products. Despite great potential, how bad news about a company influences the public sentiments
in social media has not been studied in depth. The aim of this study is to assess people s sentiments in
Twitter upon the spread of two types of information: corporate bad news and a CEO s apology. We
attempted to understand how sentiments on corporate bad news propagate in Twitter and whether any

Nowadays, however, the public expects companies to apology promptly (within 24 hours) and

experience a serious and global damage in its reputation due to the spread of bad news in social media
is Domino s Pizza. The crisis started when two employees produced and uploaded a vulgar YouTube
video in 2009. Within a few days, the video gained more than half a million views, major news media
covered the event, and people started to discuss the incident on social media. Domino s soon released
a YouTube video where its CEO apologized and explained the situation. We paid attention to the
Domino s crisis in Twitter, because from the beginning to the end the medium played a central role in
spreading both the bad news and the apology. First, the crisis started in YouTube, but soon it was
picked up by users in various social media sites. Twitter was one of the key places where discussions
took place. Based on our estimation, more than 15,000 Twitter users posted a message about the event,
Second, Domino s apologized on Twitter by sharing a link to its CEO s apology on YouTube. This
study makes three contributions. First, we demonstrate the benefits of analyzing the actual social
media conversations on a crisis situation. Before social media existed, it was extremely

Sociological Effects Of Media Violence
Violence has become a major social disturbance that is continuously on the rise to become more
common within the media. Movies, TV shows, video games and the music in this era are being
heavily influenced by violent notions. Some of the most popular TV shows that are aired have a
significant amount of violence engulfed in the scripting. Even games and music that are produced are
commonly centered on a violent scheme. Media violence has become a sociological issue for many
reasons. Media inspires people in dramatic ways, which poses an issue when what is being portrayed
is violence. Society grasp ideas through many ways, media being one, and accept them as norms.

Violence has always been embedded in the infrastructure of media. Since it has been this way for such
a long time and is not causing a major threat to the upper classes, it is les beneficial to eradicate the
amount of violence in media. Subsequently, media violence exist because it does not cause major
issues to the one at the top. Also the media in violence exist because it serves a function in society.
One of its many functions is to retain the lower class. By targeting the youth, media encourages
violent acts that lead to imprisonment. This hinders the future advancement of the youth in the lower
class making them suffer in strife. In alignment with keeping the lower class down, it entices the
proliferation of the wealth and fame of the individuals that contribute in the productions of the media.

News Media Satire Essay
News media today has traded in their hats from informing the citizens to telling the people what they
want to hear. It seems whatever news channel you watch or article you read, there is always a biased
political agenda the journalists are pushing onto you. Media is a business, their main concern is their
profit margins and viewership not in telling the cold hard facts. Not all news journalists and reporters
are biased but the unbiased one are few and far between. The inappropriate fit between the country s

International Politics And Its Impact On The World
The study of International Politics is very important and extremely relevant in today s society,
especially in a world that is so easily impacted by the countries and nations around the United States,
whether it is positive or negative. As a republic, we tend to feel irrelevant in the world despite our
loyalty as a nation. Many people feel that since they are only one person they can do very little to help
the world, but I believe that if more people were educated on international matters and the simple
things that they can contribute to positively impact the world, they would actually try. In reality,
something as small as casting your vote for an elected leader can lead to a large force acting for a
change in policy that you desire, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Christianity began over two thousand years ago, and with the start of this, societies began to base their
values upon one central belief, which in is the origin of patriotic approaches to world politics.
Christianity became very popular extremely quick, and made significant political impact in Western
Europe during the Renaissance years. In the 1600s, the Roman Empire, who mainly pursued
Catholicism and Protestantism, had expanded over what we know today as Germany and many other
territories to seize a much larger force. Today, we acknowledge the system of an independent
government as superior to any other force in action, but that would not be possible without the rise of
the principle of sovereignty, paired with the rise of the evolution of science and decline of religious
dominance in this region. The Treaty of Westphalia, one of the most impactful diplomatic documents,
established the principle of sovereignty while also ending thirty years of war. This was the first time in
history that autonomous, internal political borders were recognized. Countries were now seen as
independent, and mostly equal entities instead of pieces of land conquered by more powerful
countries. While this may seem small, it is the foundation of international relations. Nations could
now retain goods and services that are undeniable to their territory and is merely the start of trading

The History and Breakdown of the Glass Ceiling Essay
The History and Breakdown of the Glass Ceiling
The term the glass ceiling first came into use in 1986 when two Wall Street Journal reporters coined
the phrase to describe the invisible barrier that blocks women from the top jobs in corporate America.
(Glass Ceiling Commission, Successful Initiatives ). Since then the metaphor has also been applied to
the barriers of minorities. The Glass Ceiling Effect has been around for approximately 50 years. In my
opinion it is on its way out the door. Corporate Officers and Senior Management are noticing the
merits of women and minorities and doing something about it.
The glass ceiling, in its simplest form, is the theory that women and minorities do not advance into

The 1964 Act prohibits employers, unions, and employment agencies from discriminating against job
applicants and employees on the basis of race, sex, age, handicap, religion, or national origin. The law
prohibits discrimination in hiring, firing, discipline, compensation, and other conditions of
employment. (Reader s Digest, Know Your Rights ,1997). The Civil Rights Act of 1964 is the
backbone of efforts to eliminate employment discrimination. (Glass Ceiling Commission.
Enforcement Techniques , 1993). The Act allows victims of discrimination in the workplace to
privately litigate claims. The Act started the advancement of women and minorities in the workplace.
Until this point women were in the workforce steadily, but not advancing. Minorities were also
present, but almost never in positions of visibility. Women and minorities in senior management were
almost unheard of. Employers are now forced to review and revise policy and procedures for hiring
and promoting within their respective companies. They are now accountable to the government and
liable to the employee in the event of discriminatory behavior.
At this time and since then, several agencies have been organized to enforce the Act and prohibit
discrimination. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission came into effect to enforce
antidiscrimination laws. The EEOC investigates allegations of bias, negotiates agreements after
charges are filed, and occasionally goes to

Jacob Van Loon
This is The Wilderness Explosions in the Sky by Jacob van Loon
I particularly like this art piece because it is complex, contrasting, and portrays certain moods and
images.
To start, this painting was made by drawing many overlapping straight lines, and painting over it with
a lacquer, then he repeated this step several more times. He then filled each shape with blue or orange
watercolor paint. You can see where the paint leaks out in some places, this provides a balanced ratio
of geometric and abstract shapes. The blending also softens the contrast between the two colors.
I ve concluded that the painting makes me think of an apocalypse now scenario. Its looks similar to an

Sympathy For Peace In The Film Hacksaw Ridge
The soldier above all others prays for peace, for it is the soldier who must suffer and bear the deepest
wounds and scars of war. (Douglas MacArthur). Soldiers are the people who are the most adamant in
praying for peace because they are the ones that fight and die. These scenes of death and bravery and
desiring peace are displayed in a film by Mel Gibson titled Hacksaw Ridge. In the film, Hacksaw
Ridge, director Mel Gibson kept some events from The Battle of Okinawa the same but changed some
of the events leading up to the film in order to set the plot and create sympathy for the characters The
movie, Hacksaw Ridge, depicted true events from The Battle of Okinawa, that portray the real life
events accurately. For instance, after the soldiers withdrew from the ridge and Doss stayed and He

human life. Additionally, he displayed the conflict that occurred between Doss and his commanding

Desmond Doss, who ended up saving countless lives in the battle. By keeping the events accurate he

Scapular Muscle Rehabilitation
Introduction In regards to mobility, the glenohumeral (GH) joint is one of the best the human body has
to offer. It allows for the range of motion needed for the activities of daily living that we have all
grown accustomed to. In order to execute these motions, however, the shoulder joint needs a stable
base of support. This is one of the primary roles of the scapula and its surrounding musculature. When
the GH joint is injured, however, scapular muscle activation, and therefore stability and function, is
theoretically altered. Many shoulder rehabilitation programs focus on restoring proper coordination of
these muscles, especially those involved with scapular upward rotation. Until recently, however, there
has not been much research supporting the relationship between muscle activation ratios and shoulder
injuries, nor the ability to preferentially activate scapular muscles using rehabilitation exercises.
Furthermore, the purpose of this study was to determine if there are differences in muscle activation
ratios between healthy individuals and those with GH injuries, as well as evaluate muscle activation
during particular rehabilitation exercises (Moeller, Huxel Bliven, Snyder Valier, 2014).

Gadamer s Analysis
Gadamer s hermenutics is a continuation of the hermenutics of Heidegger, Gadamer held that
contemplation is the opposite to experience and reflection and we can only reach the truth by
understanding our experience. To unfold the nature of individual understanding is vital. He criticised
Dilthey in his book Truth and Method (1975) where he claims that he is limited by his insistence of a
totality of meaning , his aim was to uncover the nature of human understanding. Gadamer s thoughts
suggest that every heremeneutic act is already structred by coscious and unconscious Vorurteile
(preconceptions) that determine the way in which an object is seen. There is no completely objective
view of an issue, as for the viewer, a bias will always be there. ... Show more content on

However, Weiss (1991) appeared to give little credence to Gadamer s contributions based on the fact
that Gadamer failed to note the nuance that seperated Dilthey s thoughts from those of his
predecessors. Considering, the shared lived experience , Dilthey does not infer the a priori structure of
universal experience featured in the Hegelian model. He also does not give any precedence to
communal experience over individual, when forming his version of shared history, this emphasises
that Dilthey s objectivity is one that is made up of all persons s lived experiences and not just those of
a singled out individual. Dilthey appears to be too much under the influence of the scientific ideology,
that everything is reducible to scientific

Arranged Marriages Between Rochel And Nasira
Arranged is a beautiful presentation, of the everyday life of women in devoted religions, and really
portrays in the way they find choice in their religious devotion. So, while having the freedom to write
about whatever we wish upon while watching this film, I decided to base my essay on the cultural
relationship of arranged marriages between Rochel and Nasira; just two women and their friendship.
Rochel who is an Orthodox Jew, and Nasira who is a Syrian descent Muslim, are both public school
teachers at a multi cultural school located in Brooklyn, New York. Both of the women begin to realize
that they have more in common with each other than they think. Rochel and Nasira are going through
an arranged marriage processes, in which they are both feeling religious and cultural pressures from
their families. Both women are presented with many choices for potential husbands; however,
ultimately, they choose whom they want to marry, as in any other marriage. Arranged marriages
should never be forced or pressured. On the other hand, one shouldn t criticize arranged marriages as
long as the people who are in them are okay with them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

people meet and agree to marry. Two people who have a lot in common and good chemistry can end
up in a horrible marriage if one or both of them choose during the marriage to adopt
attitudes/actions/desires inconsistent with a good marital relationship, and two strangers who start out

Women and New Deal Programs Essay
Black Tuesday is cited to be the day that the Stock Market Crashed on October 19, 1929, and it is
believed to have been the beginning of the Great Depression (Schultz). This led to many catastrophes
in the United States economic system that lasted ten years, from 1929 1939 (Schultz). During this time
period consumer spending declined, unemployment increased, and a severe drought throughout the
U.S led to a reduction in agricultural labor, which resulted in even more unemployment (Schultz).
Nevertheless, out of this crisis President Roosevelt created programs, throughout his presidency, in

employment opportunities that were create with the New Deal and Second New Deal policies. Women
were employed on FERA, Federal Emergency Relief Administration projects, which were run by state
funds (Woolner). One of the agencies of this administration that was created through the New Deal
programs and directly assisted women was the Work Progress Administration. The WPA was created
in 1935 and hired single women, widows, or women with disabled or absent husbands (Kennedy 625).
While the WAP employed men in unskilled manual labor job, women were assigned sewing projects.
They were in charge of making clothing, blankets, and other necessities that were given to charities
and hospitals (Ware 43). Women were also hired in the school lunch programs created by the WPA
and in its Federal Art project, which gave 162 women a job painting murals and creating statues for
the newly built post office buildings and court houses (Ware 47). The New Deal policies, while their
main target was employing and benefitting the male population, with the help of Eleanor Roosevelt,
employment for women also increased and provided a foundation for Women s Rights Movement
(Woolner). Furthermore, before the New Deal and Second New Deal policies having women in
government agencies was rare. However, as mentioned above employment opportunities increased for

The Stages Of Phil Runs
When PHIL runs, it has three distinct stages that the code runs through. First is the initialization stage.
This is where the code that needs to be set up first runs. The next stage is the execution stage, which is
arguably the most important stage. This is where the majority of the code executes. Any code in the
execution stage repeats until the user terminates it. The final stage is the termination stage, which
happens after the user terminates the execution stage. This is where all tasks stop and any code which
needs to complete, can do so safely. Tasks in PHIL are pieces of code that will execute repeatedly.
Tasks can be anything from the satellite propagation to the sensors. The Lua script handles the
scheduling, initializing, execution, and termination of these tasks. Each task runs according to how the
Lua script has it scheduled and the code will continue to run until the user gives the command to
terminate the task. Figure 2 shows the architecture of PHIL. This portion of the reboot focuses on the
simulation side and not the flight software side. As these tasks run, they may have data that other tasks
require to successfully run. A way of handling this transfer of data from one task to another is to adopt
a Publish and Subscribe System. This system allows for the transferring of variables without getting in
the way of the scheduler and makes sure that all tasks receive the same data for that given moment of
time. For example: The satellite propagation publishes

I.INTRODUCTION
DNS is a protocol with some protocols for computers in exchanging data over the Internet. The
process is to turn a website like google.com into an machine readable address like 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
for IPv4 that computers use for identification on the network. In fact Google Public DNS is largest
DNS service in the world which handles more than 400 billion requests a day. All the computers or
hosts on the internet use IP Address to establish a connection with site they are need. With the DNS
service, we don t need to remember the whole bunch of numbers stacked at each decimal point. We
just use a DNS server and appropriate name servers and access the sites with specific names. And this
DNS server manages a massive database which maps the domain names to those IP Addresses.
On a short note, DNS server search for the domain name as per the User Request. This process is
named as DNS name Resolution and this means DNS servers converts the domain name to IP address.
As mentioned earlier, google.com has IP address of 8.8.8.8 which you enter directly into browser will
give you the Google s page. Web site s IP addresses are dynamic and some sites use many IP s with
only one Domain name.Without DNS servers, Internet access would be a lot tougher.

Kurt Cobain was dead at his home on April 8th, 1994, with a shotgun on his chest, drugs at his side,

Environmental Problems In The Environment
Environmental issues run through the entire development of humankind at different historical stages.
Due to the differences in the level of production and productivity, the types of environmental
problems, and the scope and extent of their impacts are also different and can be broadly divided into
three stages: From the appearance of mankind till the Industrial Revolution, it was the stage of early
environmental problems; From the industrial revolution to the discovery of the Antarctic ozone hole in
1984, it is a stage of modern environmental problems; From 1984 to now, it is the stage of
contemporary environmental problems.
Therefore, people often blame the environmental problems to the development of chemistry and the
industrialization with the help of more matured chemical products. The industrial revolution that
started in the 18th century not only brought hope and joy to mankind, but also laid the latent threat of
human existence and development. Western countries first entered the process of industrialization,
enjoying the prosperity brought about by industrialization as soon as possible and earning the earliest
bitter pill of industrialization. Beginning in the 1950s, environmental pollution incidents came one
after another, resulting in thousands of lives being threatened and even many people died. The world
currently environmental problems mainly include climate change, ozone depletion, deforestation and
biodiversity reduction, atmospheric and

Theistic Evolution
Have you ever wondered how the universe came into existence? There are several different theories or
views on the origin of the world. Three of these views would include but not limited to: theistic
evolution, the big bang theory, and the view called abiogenesis.
Theistic Evolution is the belief that there is a God but he is not directly involved with the world. This
is the belief that the world was not created in one moment, without a conscious thought or occurred
naturally on its own. Theistic evolutionists believe the earth was created over a period of time. They
also believe that God only helped the process of creation. They don t believe he created the earth or
did any of the heavy lifting. The people who believe in this way are typically those who want a
religion that looks at life from a scientific point of view. This person in particular blames God for the
darkness in this world. They believe that God is just sitting back, watching as the world turns ... Show

Those who actively believe this theory, think that the universe has a beginning. They believe the
universe has not always existed. They believe that one moment there was nothing and another moment
the universe existed. What is currently known as the Big Bang Theory was evolved from the standard
theory. The standard theory says that the universe came into existence as singularity around 13.7
billion years ago (Big Bang Theory). Singularities are believed to have originated at the heart of black
holes. If one can see a black hole, one is too close. Therefore will be sucked into the black hole. Due
to the powerful force of the black hole s gravitational pull. A singularity is defined as interminably
small in size, immensely hot in temperature and extremely dense. Those who believe in the Big Bang
Theory believe the universe expanded and cooled, going from very, very small and very, very hot, to
the size and temperature of our current universe (Big Bang

Continuity Vs Discontinuity Research Paper
Daniell Lyman u0849900 Psyc 3230
01 Continuity v.s. Discontinuity I would state that discontinuity
has more common relations to the view or theory of existentialism. This is the belief that the existence
of an individual person as a free agent determines their own development by will. People can and will
change abruptly with or without relation to their age. The controversy over continuity and
discontinuity is the time span in which people change in their life span. I will not argue that some
individuals do in fact grow over a long steady period of time. However, large shifts in a person s life
can change them overnight as well. Both approaches and views ultimately make up the most common
human experience throughout the world which is compiled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He talks about how hope is distilled upon newborns as is wisdom for late adulthood. The twelve
stages each acquire a new skill as the individual develops gradually throughout their life. This book
outlines several common topics covered in the view of continuity in development. The idea that an
individual gradually learns and develops overtime in a relatively similar way as everyone else is a
vague statement to make in a world filled with such diversity. When discussing the effects of trauma
during the life span it is important to understand the meaning of resilience in context. Young
adolescent children may seem vulnerable in comparison to adults due to the development or lack of
foundation around them. I believe a traumatic event can be detrimental to both adolescent children and
late adults. The individual s life looked at in context is the best way to determine what is seen as
maladaptive. The existentialist view in relation to discontinuity is captured in a poem verse called
Invictus by philosopher William Ernest Henley, It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with
punishments the scroll. I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my

Essay on American Education in the 1800 s
American Education in the 1800 s
In the early 1800 s education in America grew and developed rapidly, largely because of the works of
three very important men: Noah Webster, William McGuffey, and Horace Mann. These three men
were catalysts for the growth of education throughout the nineteenth century, and without them the
large strides America took during this time would not have occurred. These great men all shared one
goal: to educate the youth of America as well as possible. This was no small task, however, because
the educational system in place was disorganized and had several large problems that had to be
overcome.
The task of correcting the many problems that faced education in the early 1800 s required the genius

The book was such a success that it was used in classrooms for almost one hundred years
(www.ctstateu.edu). Noah Webster s greatest accomplishment was writing the first truly American
dictionary. The book took more than 27 years to complete, and among the nearly 70,000 words
featured in it were truly American words, such as skunk and chowder (www.christianlaw.com). This
book was the work of a lifetime for Webster, and his name is now nearly synonymous with any
modern American dictionary.
Another great contributor to the spread of American educational tools was William McGuffey, author
of the widely spread series, Peerless Pioneer Readers. This series of writings was used in every state
of the Union and had a very obvious effect on students in American schools (lib.muohio.edu). Along
with creating such influential educational tools, McGuffey also taught at several prestigious
institutions of higher learning, such as Ohio University and Miami University (www.hfmgv.org). With
such a widespread influence caused by not only his educational series but his teaching across the
Midwest, it s no surprise that McGuffey is considered one of the instigators of the rapid improvement
of the educational system in America.
The man with the greatest effect on the government s relationship with schools is Horace Mann. Often

Chewing Gum Comparison
Contrast to what most people believe, chewing gum is ancient. There has been evidence of man
chewing tree sap as far back as the ancient Greeks. The Greeks used resien from the mastic tree as an
early form of gum. It wasn t until 1848 that John B. Curtis saw the potential of producing gum. His
first product was called State of Maine Pure Spruce Gum. Curtis was not the only one who saw the
potential in gum. Thomas Adams was working with chicle, which is sap from the sophodilla tree, to
use as a substitute for rubber. He eventually gave up and added flavoring to his mixture, creating
chewing gum. In 1871 Adams invented a machine with the sole purpose of producing chewing gum.

Powdered sugar is used as a coating to keep the gum from sticking to the machinery. The chewing
gum is then transported to a temperature controlled room until it is the right consistency, and then

many different kinds of gum that can be grouped into three different classifications. Each
classification targets different ages and needs of the consumer. The first classification is bubble gum.
Bubble gum targets the younger generation with its sweet and colorful characteristics. Knowing how
to blow an air bubble in the elastic treat is a trick every child must learn. Chewing gum is meant for
most ages. It have a minty flavor that freshens breath and, in some brands, kills bacteria. The only
downside to chewing gum is that it is not as rubbery as bubblegum, which makes blowing bubbles
difficult. The last classification is medicated gum. Medicated gum can be used to quickly get

Fatalism In The Radical Durkheim And C. W. Mills
This is evident in Frank Pearce s chapter Fatalism in The Radical Durkheim and C. W. Mills chapter
The Promise in The Sociological Imagination as both men place great emphasis on the fact that our
awareness of our everyday lives affect how we behave and react to daily stressors. However, Pearce s
Durkheimianism exceeds what Mill s calls the sociological imagination by demonstrating that all
walks of life suffer no matter their employment or social ranking, but in very different ways.
Additionally, Pearce s explanation on fatalism furthers this point by insisting that our personal
experiences are predetermined due to the greater society in which we live in; thus, the outcome
becomes unavoidable (Pearce 2013:126). For this reason, I contend

Robert Frost The Road Not Taken Response
The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost also shows the traveler making his own moral decisions. The
traveler values perseverance. At the fork in the road, the traveler takes the less traveled path. The dark,
overgrown, and unpredictable path. As he walks along the path, he doesn t lose sight of what his goal
is, and doesn t even consider going back and taking the other path. His mind is set on taking the more
challenging path, no matter how hard it is. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way
leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. (Frost The Road Not Taken) Frost says, the
character in his poem is a representation of his friend Edward Thomas. Robert Frost admires his Welsh
friend, because he is known for making decisions and never looking back on them. Although the
traveler had originally wanted to travel down both roads, and hopes someday he can, he still chooses
to pick the path less traveled by. In those lines, this traveler is doubting he would ever get the chance
to come back, and pick between the two roads again, so he is happy and grateful he picked the road
that would benefit him, and challenge him the most. Persistence ensures we follow through with our
decisions. Being sure, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Fellowship of the Ring Response Essay
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
Reader Response
The novel The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R Tolkien is set in a fanciful world filled with strange
creatures and magical happenings, but not everything is so unlike our world. Many of the characters
change over the course of the story, just as we do over the course of our lives. Frodo, the main
character and the carrier of the magical ring, is part of the mythical race of Hobbits, yet he is
remarkably human. He has the same values as we do, and his small size hides his big heart. His
journey throughout the novel changes his life and his outlook on life. In the beginning he is content

However the women wear their hair down and the men wear fancy embroidered vests, which suggests
much later in time. I like novels with no set time, because they let me imagine what I want.
The Fellowship of the Ring has a lot of background information and long words. Tolkien does this in
all of his writing. I disliked all the landscape in the beginning, but I grew to be thankful for the extra
description as the novel went on. Tolkien s world is complicated, with many mountain ranges, plains,
deserts, jungles, and forests, and the rich description helps to keep them straight and also helps the
reader imagine the world of Middle Earth. Generally fantasy books that are written for children have
less information and more action, but not this one. This book is written with many long and
occasionally some made up words. The names, for example the name Galadriel, are made of odd
letters and have strange pronunciations, yet all fit the characters to a tee. The Elvish language made by
the author flows off the tongue of the reader, and is a pleasure to say aloud. The book may seem dense
to a reader who prefers fast paced action, yet the description and the rich language simply enhance the
plotline.
Tolkien wrote his novels as bedtime stories for his young children. When they were first published,
they were sold solely as children s novels. Over the years, however, The Fellowship of the Ring has
become a classic read by all ages. How does

Reflection On Social Work
I ve now been at my placement for over a month and have experienced many different opportunities.
Over the last few weeks I learned about the process of facilitating a care conference with family
members and the resident. I learned how to write up notes about the care conference to chart. Another
learning experience I discovered was the process of guardians for residents who cannot make their
own decisions. My supervisor and I sat down to discuss the process and went through paperwork on
how to become a guardian. I learned a lot about Power of Attorney s during this time and the legal
work behind guardianship. Later, my supervisor said I d be able to go to a guardianship court hearing
to watch the process unfold. I m looking forward to that so I can see the whole picture of the
guardianship process. I got to experience what is called a departure at Bethel Home. A resident had
passed and the staff received the family s permission for the departure ceremony. The staff gathered in
the hall and said a prayer with the family, and then they sang Amazing Grace. It was something I had
never experienced before and it was very emotional for the staff and the family members. It was a
helpful way for the family and staff to receive closure. Over the past month I am beginning to
understand the flow of Bethel Home. I am starting to get a feel for what the social worker s
responsibilities are and an understanding of other positions. I m starting to ask more questions and I m

Losing a Language Explication Essay
W.S. Merwin immediately sets a tone for Losing a Language in the title, hinting at the lament like
characteristic of the poem. In fact, the title is not supposed to be a metaphor or even contain a hidden
meaning that the reader must deduce by reading on. The poem is exactly what the title suggests:
language and words, and thus communication, has been lost. Merwin creates a nostalgic and sad tone
to emphasize the loss and quickly establishes the direction of the poem using simple diction. He
carries this simple language, along with the mournful tone, into the rest of the work and does not stray
from the subject. This allows the central idea, the loss of language, to not only persist throughout the
piece but to become the dominant thought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A second conflict introduced in the first couplet is the gap between the old and the young due to the
loss or change of language. The speaker states that the old still remember and contrasts this with the
young, who have fewer words. In the fifth couplet, we see a similar situation with parents and
children. The speaker gives us two ends of a spectrum to demonstrate the distance that the change in
language has created. We see a physical representation of this with the line, farther and farther away.
The gap is also represented in the sixth and ninth couplets, particularly in the lines we are wrong and
dark / in the eyes of the new owners. By referring to one side as we and the other as them, new
owners, or somebody, we can see two sides and that what was once familiar to the speaker is now
replaced by something foreign (line 21) and an us vs. them gap is formed. Because the speaker is
direct and clear, we are able to recognize the nostalgic tone simply because of what the speaker is
explicitly telling us. However, the structure of the poem also contributes to the tone. There are no
punctuations throughout the entire poem, yet we still read it slow enough to create a dramatic and sad
mood. The poem is divided into fourteen couplets, each with a substantial gap between them. At the
end of a couplet, we are forced to slow down and fully pause before moving on to a new section. In
addition, most of the lines are complete clauses

Examples Of Altrruism In A Streetcar Named Desire

Definition of Empathy and Altruism
Empathy derives from the German word EinfĂźhlung, meaning to feel the suffering and troubles of
another from within (Clarke, 2014). The empathic concern that enlivens us to action and to alleviate
the perils, poverty or punishments borne by another. Humans devoid of empathy are bereft of
compassion and immune to the needs and welfare of another.

something other than relieving negative state was motivating the helping behavior of the high empathy
subjects in their studies. It contradicted with the theory proposed by Robert Cialdini (1987) which
supported that empathy altruism hypothesis was actually the product of an entirely egoistic desire for

Yellow Wallpaper Influence
Wallpaper, in general, is never appealing, but usually most wallpaper does not make one go
completely crazy and lose their mind. Charlotte Perkins Gilman, the author of The Yellow Wallpaper,
created a wallpaper that did just that. The Yellow Wallpaper is a short story about a husband and wife,
who go to a summer house for the wife s depression. John, the husband, is a doctor and is responsible
for treating his wife. His treatment for her illness is to keep her cooped up in an old nursery room with
hideous yellow wallpaper. The wife, who is also the narrator of the story, slowly becomes more and
more obsessed with the wallpaper pattern as she is forced to stay in that room. The pattern, the wife
believes, is taking the shape of a woman trapped behind the wallpaper. The story ends when the wife
completely loses it and tears down the wallpaper in an effort to free the trapped woman. This causes
her husband to faint and she continues to creep around the room. Gilman s influence for this

With supercritical water extraction and treatment, the heavy crude is upgraded to a medium to light
crude that is higher value and can be further refined at more facilities worldwide. In addition, it can be
transported and stored using conventional crude infrastructure already in place and leverage that

Using supercritical brine , such as the water found with typical oil reservoirs or seawater (14) is the
key difference and what makes this unique. Based on the cited experimental work, heavy crude can be
hydrocracked more efficiently to make a medium to lighter crude in a relatively simple process. It has
been demonstrated that in one step, sulfur is converted to H2S for easy separation, metals can be

Predestination And The Movie Predestination
Predestination
The movie Predestination has presented many great examples of different psychological cases. In the
movie the plot of the story is that a bomber has killed many people and the main character has to go
back in time to stop him. The aftereffects of going back in time multiple occasions is what may be a
leading factor as to what each characters unique disorder may be, but the tiny details on the side is
what reveals the bigger issue. The main characters are easy to breakdown and it s obvious as to what
each ones disorders are.The background of this character is directly unique to the movie as the main
story of the movie is what causes him to develop all of his problems. The movie itself is a paradox and
requires a lot of thought even after seeing it from a third person point of view so the characters

The movie has three major characters that are unique to themselves and each other. The characters are
all different to each other in many ways such as age, appearances, and even personalities yet they are
crucial to each other at the end of the movie. The first character is a middle aged man named John, the
second character is a younger woman named Jane, and the last character is an older man whose name
is also John. The middle aged man, John, is the time traveling agent mentioned before whereas the

  • 3. Analysis Of Mirror By Sylvia Plath Mirrors reflect the innermost part of the soul. A mirror can show you at your most beautiful and your most unpleasant times. Sylvia Plath s poem Mirrors , conveys a message that is much deeper than the words printed on the page. The denotation of Mirrors provides the reader a basic reading of the poem, whereas the connotation gives a deeper meaning to the work. Plath s word usage conveys two meanings to Mirrors , allowing the reader to better personalize the work. I am silver and exact. I have no preconceptions. / Whatever I see I swallow immediately / Just as it is, unmisted by love or dislike. / (Plath 739 lines 1 3) Reading these lines obviously describe a mirror. The mirror is a first person narrator describing itself; it is silver and exact with no preconceptions . It takes in whatever looks at it and feels no emotion towards it. Studying the text shows a deeper meaning. The mirror is exact, nothing is wrong with the object itself. The mirror does not have any feelings, it will not judge whomever is looking into it. Whatever looks into the mirror will see its entire self, without filters of love or dislike. The next lines follow I am not cruel, only truthful / The eye of a little god, four cornered. / (Plath lines 4 5) The mirror is not mean, it only shows the object its true reflection. It seems to be a god like entity since it sees all. The connotation is seen as the mirror shows you who you truly are. It casts back an image that some are happy with ... More importantly, only 18% of HR professionals in the same survey felt the organisations have a strong bench to respond to future needs. In order to make the most of the leadership pipeline model, organisations must also focus on the following four elements. A simple system with buy in from the senior leadership team The focus should be on creating a clear and simple pipeline framework. The more complex the program, the more it risks failing at some point. If the organisation is able to reduce the bureaucracy required to run the system, then it ensures the system is based on clarity and effectiveness. One way to remove complexity from the system is by narrowing its focus. The processes used must be focused on the actual objectives and needs of the organisation. There s no reason to add broadness by creating a far reaching process when there is no need for it. The scope is at its best when it doesn t focus on every person within the organisation, but narrows the effort down towards a few key players. Furthermore, it s important to ensure the system is flexible enough to respond the changing needs within the organisation. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the first companies to experience a serious and global damage in its reputation due to the spread of bad news in social media is Domino s Pizza. Today, we acknowledge the system of an independent government as superior to any other force in action, but that would not be possible without the rise of the principle of sovereignty, paired with the rise of the evolution of science and decline of religious dominance in this region. The Treaty of Westphalia, one of the most impactful diplomatic documents, established the principle of sovereignty while also ending thirty years of war. • 14. Scapular Muscle Rehabilitation Introduction In regards to mobility, the glenohumeral (GH) joint is one of the best the human body has to offer. It allows for the range of motion needed for the activities of daily living that we have all grown accustomed to. In order to execute these motions, however, the shoulder joint needs a stable base of support. This is one of the primary roles of the scapula and its surrounding musculature. When the GH joint is injured, however, scapular muscle activation, and therefore stability and function, is theoretically altered. Many shoulder rehabilitation programs focus on restoring proper coordination of these muscles, especially those involved with scapular upward rotation. Until recently, however, there has not been much research supporting the relationship between muscle activation ratios and shoulder injuries, nor the ability to preferentially activate scapular muscles using rehabilitation exercises. Gadamer s Analysis Gadamer s hermenutics is a continuation of the hermenutics of Heidegger, Gadamer held that contemplation is the opposite to experience and reflection and we can only reach the truth by understanding our experience. To unfold the nature of individual understanding is vital. He criticised Dilthey in his book Truth and Method (1975) where he claims that he is limited by his insistence of a totality of meaning , his aim was to uncover the nature of human understanding. Gadamer s thoughts suggest that every heremeneutic act is already structred by coscious and unconscious Vorurteile (preconceptions) that determine the way in which an object is seen. • 18. The Stages Of Phil Runs When PHIL runs, it has three distinct stages that the code runs through. First is the initialization stage. This is where the code that needs to be set up first runs. The next stage is the execution stage, which is arguably the most important stage. This is where the majority of the code executes. Any code in the execution stage repeats until the user terminates it. The final stage is the termination stage, which happens after the user terminates the execution stage. This is where all tasks stop and any code which needs to complete, can do so safely. Tasks in PHIL are pieces of code that will execute repeatedly. Tasks can be anything from the satellite propagation to the sensors. The Lua script handles the scheduling, initializing, execution, and termination of these tasks. Each task runs according to how the Lua script has it scheduled and the code will continue to run until the user gives the command to terminate the task. Figure 2 shows the architecture of PHIL. This portion of the reboot focuses on the simulation side and not the flight software side. As these tasks run, they may have data that other tasks require to successfully run. A way of handling this transfer of data from one task to another is to adopt a Publish and Subscribe System. Thomas Adams was working with chicle, which is sap from the sophodilla tree, to use as a substitute for rubber. He eventually gave up and added flavoring to his mixture, creating chewing gum. In 1871 Adams invented a machine with the sole purpose of producing chewing gum. Since the time of Curtis and Adam, chewing gum has changed. Some qualities ... • 28. Fatalism In The Radical Durkheim And C. W. Mills This is evident in Frank Pearce s chapter Fatalism in The Radical Durkheim and C. W. Mills chapter The Promise in The Sociological Imagination as both men place great emphasis on the fact that our awareness of our everyday lives affect how we behave and react to daily stressors. However, Pearce s Durkheimianism exceeds what Mill s calls the sociological imagination by demonstrating that all walks of life suffer no matter their employment or social ranking, but in very different ways. Additionally, Pearce s explanation on fatalism furthers this point by insisting that our personal experiences are predetermined due to the greater society in which we live in; thus, the outcome becomes unavoidable (Pearce 2013:126). At the fork in the road, the traveler takes the less traveled path. The dark, overgrown, and unpredictable path. As he walks along the path, he doesn t lose sight of what his goal is, and doesn t even consider going back and taking the other path. His mind is set on taking the more challenging path, no matter how hard it is. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. (Frost The Road Not Taken) Frost says, the character in his poem is a representation of his friend Edward Thomas. Robert Frost admires his Welsh friend, because he is known for making decisions and never looking back on them. Although the traveler had originally wanted to travel down both roads, and hopes someday he can, he still chooses to pick the path less traveled by. In those lines, this traveler is doubting he would ever get the chance to come back, and pick between the two roads again, so he is happy and grateful he picked the road that would benefit him, and challenge him the most. The Fellowship of the Ring Response Essay The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring Reader Response The novel The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R Tolkien is set in a fanciful world filled with strange creatures and magical happenings, but not everything is so unlike our world. Many of the characters change over the course of the story, just as we do over the course of our lives. Frodo, the main character and the carrier of the magical ring, is part of the mythical race of Hobbits, yet he is remarkably human. He has the same values as we do, and his small size hides his big heart. His journey throughout the novel changes his life and his outlook on life. However the women wear their hair down and the men wear fancy embroidered vests, which suggests much later in time. I like novels with no set time, because they let me imagine what I want. The Fellowship of the Ring has a lot of background information and long words. Tolkien does this in all of his writing. I disliked all the landscape in the beginning, but I grew to be thankful for the extra description as the novel went on. Tolkien s world is complicated, with many mountain ranges, plains, deserts, jungles, and forests, and the rich description helps to keep them straight and also helps the reader imagine the world of Middle Earth. Generally fantasy books that are written for children have less information and more action, but not this one. This book is written with many long and occasionally some made up words. The names, for example the name Galadriel, are made of odd letters and have strange pronunciations, yet all fit the characters to a tee. The Elvish language made by the author flows off the tongue of the reader, and is a pleasure to say aloud. The book may seem dense to a reader who prefers fast paced action, yet the description and the rich language simply enhance the plotline. Tolkien wrote his novels as bedtime stories for his young children. When they were first published, they were sold solely as children s novels. Over the years, however, The Fellowship of the Ring has become a classic read by all ages. How does ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Reflection On Social Work I ve now been at my placement for over a month and have experienced many different opportunities. Over the last few weeks I learned about the process of facilitating a care conference with family members and the resident. I learned how to write up notes about the care conference to chart. Another learning experience I discovered was the process of guardians for residents who cannot make their own decisions. My supervisor and I sat down to discuss the process and went through paperwork on how to become a guardian. I learned a lot about Power of Attorney s during this time and the legal work behind guardianship. Later, my supervisor said I d be able to go to a guardianship court hearing to watch the process unfold. I m looking forward to that so I can see the whole picture of the guardianship process. I got to experience what is called a departure at Bethel Home. A resident had passed and the staff received the family s permission for the departure ceremony. The staff gathered in the hall and said a prayer with the family, and then they sang Amazing Grace. It was something I had never experienced before and it was very emotional for the staff and the family members. It was a helpful way for the family and staff to receive closure. Over the past month I am beginning to understand the flow of Bethel Home. I am starting to get a feel for what the social worker s responsibilities are and an understanding of other positions. • 32. Losing a Language Explication Essay W.S. Merwin immediately sets a tone for Losing a Language in the title, hinting at the lament like characteristic of the poem. In fact, the title is not supposed to be a metaphor or even contain a hidden meaning that the reader must deduce by reading on. The poem is exactly what the title suggests: language and words, and thus communication, has been lost. Merwin creates a nostalgic and sad tone to emphasize the loss and quickly establishes the direction of the poem using simple diction. He carries this simple language, along with the mournful tone, into the rest of the work and does not stray from the subject. This allows the central idea, the loss of language, to not only persist throughout the piece but to become the dominant thought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A second conflict introduced in the first couplet is the gap between the old and the young due to the loss or change of language. The speaker states that the old still remember and contrasts this with the young, who have fewer words. In the fifth couplet, we see a similar situation with parents and children. The speaker gives us two ends of a spectrum to demonstrate the distance that the change in language has created. We see a physical representation of this with the line, farther and farther away. The gap is also represented in the sixth and ninth couplets, particularly in the lines we are wrong and dark / in the eyes of the new owners. By referring to one side as we and the other as them, new owners, or somebody, we can see two sides and that what was once familiar to the speaker is now replaced by something foreign (line 21) and an us vs. them gap is formed. Because the speaker is direct and clear, we are able to recognize the nostalgic tone simply because of what the speaker is explicitly telling us. However, the structure of the poem also contributes to the tone. There are no punctuations throughout the entire poem, yet we still read it slow enough to create a dramatic and sad mood. The poem is divided into fourteen couplets, each with a substantial gap between them. At the end of a couplet, we are forced to slow down and fully pause before moving on to a new section. In addition, most of the lines are complete clauses ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Charlotte Perkins Gilman, the author of The Yellow Wallpaper, created a wallpaper that did just that. The Yellow Wallpaper is a short story about a husband and wife, who go to a summer house for the wife s depression. John, the husband, is a doctor and is responsible for treating his wife. His treatment for her illness is to keep her cooped up in an old nursery room with hideous yellow wallpaper. The wife, who is also the narrator of the story, slowly becomes more and more obsessed with the wallpaper pattern as she is forced to stay in that room. The pattern, the wife believes, is taking the shape of a woman trapped behind the wallpaper. The story ends when the wife completely loses it and tears down the wallpaper in an effort to free the trapped woman. This causes her husband to faint and she continues to creep around the room. With supercritical water extraction and treatment, the heavy crude is upgraded to a medium to light crude that is higher value and can be further refined at more facilities worldwide. In addition, it can be transported and stored using conventional crude infrastructure already in place and leverage that capital and operating investment. Using supercritical brine , such as the water found with typical oil reservoirs or seawater (14) is the key difference and what makes this unique. Based on the cited experimental work, heavy crude can be hydrocracked more efficiently to make a medium to lighter crude in a relatively simple process. It has been demonstrated that in one step, sulfur is converted to H2S for easy separation, metals can be removed (25) and the heavy organic molecules are hydrocracked to shorter chain compounds with less coking than obtained with conventional coking and hydrocracking methods. There are various opportunities for deploying Supercritical Brine Extraction and Upgrading (SCBEU ): Use SCBEU units at bitumen and oil sand sites to extract and upgrade at the site.
