The Reluctant Fundamentalist Essay
Fundamentalism is a strict adherence to a set of ideas or beliefs that are conservative in nature. It is a
pejorative term usually associated with religious fanaticism. Usually, this is what comes to mind when
there is mention of a fundamentalist. However, in Mohsin Hamid s The Reluctant Fundamentalist
starring the protagonist Changez, a Pakistani Princetonian who is a top ranked employee at a
prestigious New York valuation firm, turns out not to be an Islamic fundamentalist, but a reluctant
fundamentalist of US Capitalism. Hamid challenges readers to reevaluate their preconceived notions
and prejudices of people different from themselves in post 9/11 America by employing the use of
motifs, aphorism, and suspense, to create a conflation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hamid, through his choice of names, brilliantly doubles his characters as motifs. All the significant
characters have a symbolic identity and thus, he is simultaneously telling two stories, but not in the
traditional sense expected of a frame story, for this is not a story within a story, but rather, a story
behind a story. The frame takes Changez back to the past, but when he finishes retelling the past, the
frame is no more and the reader is back in the present. Therefore, when the past is put in conjunction
with the happenings in the cafe, only one story is being told. The second story is conveyed through the
interaction of the motifs and requires a little intuition (not that much) on the reader s part to decipher
its meaning. In using the motifs to convey a variety of messages, the relationship between Changez
and Erica is especially saturated with clues of their secret identities. Erica had only one previous lover,
Chris, her childhood sweetheart who died of cancer in late adolescence and whom she is never able to
let go. Initially, she was severely depressed but eventually recovered from the ordeal. However, as
Erica s intimacy with Changez grows, so does her feeling of nostalgia. The September 11 attacks
triggers a relapse in Erica and she becomes more and more obsessed with Chris. She rejects Changez
physically and is only able to have sex with him when they pretend

Abstract
This report is prepared in response to a need which arose from the personal decision to purchase a new
city car. In the following pages it will be attempted to answer burning questions regarding the decision
making in the presence of multiple and conflicting criteria. By the use of appropriate techniques it will

This report analyses the whole process which is followed in order to make a personal decision related
with the buy a hatchback for city driving: from the identification and structuring of the problem to the
appraisal of the alternative solution (French et all, 2009,pp 81).
As it happens in any imminent decision regarding a purchase, an assiduous market research is
required. The brochures of the major automobile companies and the car web sites constitute the main
information source which will be used for the designation of the criteria and the elicitation of their
values. Due to the fact that the criteria which are taken into consideration are more than two, Multiple
Criteria Decision Analysis(MCDA) will be applied. The MCDA is supported by the use of the IDS
software. The data and its calculation as well as any output of IDS tool, are presented explicitly in the
respective appendices.
2. Methodology
As it is referred above, the objective of this problem is to take a decision concerning the purchase of a
new city car. For this reason, the article Best city cars from the website carbuyer.co.uk (2014) is very
helpful as it provides the best ten city cars among which the final decision will be made. All these city
cars (alternatives) are available in different versions. Due to the limited budget (9000pounds) the
decision making is focused on the economical model, widely well known as S trim level. In this
selection problem the car

Thyroid Hormones, Thyroxine ( T4 ) And Triiodothyronine (...
PPL 7. Thyroid function
Thyroid hormones, thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), are implicated in numerous process,
including growth and development of muscle, bones and the central nervous system (CNS);
metabolism by increasing basal metabolic rate, calorigenesis and appetite; and have cardiovascular
effects due to they make the heart beats faster and harder. Deregulation of the correct function of the
thyroid can lead to different pathological process such as hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism,
thyroiditis, goiters, thyroid cancer and solitary thyroid nodules. The determination of thyroid
hormones, especially FT4, together with TSH is an important element in clinical routine diagnosis. It
is useful when thyroid disorders are suspected and also for the monitoring of therapy.
Before this learning unit, I was aware of general aspect of thyroid structure and function. But I found
it helpful to adequate myself into the synthesis and control of hormone production. The transport of
thyroid hormones along the body was new to me, as well as, the methods of measurement of thyroid
hormones. Some of the thyroid disorders are quite common, so as a health worker, it is important to be
aware of the different tests used to assess the thyroid, such as, plasma T3, T4 and TSH; besides the
tests that establish the cause of the dysfunction, including thyroid autoantibodies (anti thyroid
peroxidase and anti thyroglobulin), serum thyroid binding globulin (TBG), thyroid enzyme activities,

Empathy Belly Research Paper
While wearing the empathy belly, I experienced many physical and mental challenges. There were
many obstacles I had to overcome and deal with the uncomfortableness. After wearing the belly for
only a few short hours, I now have even more sympathy for women who have to go through this for
nine months. I experienced many symptoms while wearing the belly. The most noticeable symptom I
noticed was my heart rate. Having a heart condition and wearing the belly probably wasn t the best
idea since it cause my heart rate to increase and I had a palpitation. It makes me wonder what it would
be like if I was actually pregnant. Would I be able to carry a baby without it drastically effecting my
health? I noticed that it was harder than normal to breathe because of the metal balls on my ribs. I was
sweaty and felt like walking from class to class was a chore. The only part of my body that actually
hurt was my ribs because of the balls. Walking in the belly was very awkward and uncomfortable. It

they have to experience the physical effects, they also have to experience the mental effects. I give
props to pregnant women because I don t think I d be able to handle it for nine weeks. If a teenage girl

Emily Dickinson Because I Could Not Stop For Death Essay
Death was very prevalent in the life of Emily Dickinson. It had all started with the death of her loved
ones and family friends that led her into a state of solitary where she had become very reclusive and
gave her time to write the large amount of poems she created. It has provided people who have had
something tragic or just in that state of mind to provide an outing as well as provide incredible
imagery to pass onto a reader. Emily Dickinson was a poet that has very impressive way of using
multiple themes in her poems that create incredible imagery. Each composition that Dickinson has

Electric Cars Vs Electric Cars
Throughout modern times we have seen and witnessed many advancements of technologies. One of
the major advancements in environmental friendly technology we have seen include electric vehicles.
Electric vehicles have brought us about many advantages, but there are reasons why electric vehicles
should cost more than conventional gasoline cars.
Electric car sales have raised to 2 million dollars in 2016 after being almost non existent in 2010. EV s
run on electricity, compared to conventional vehicles that use a gas or diesel powered engine. These
cars average around $1.14 per eGallon, compared to $3.65 a gallon for gas. Nevertheless they have a
major obstacle when it comes to entering and doing well in today s market due to the high price.
Electric cars use different parts that cost more to produce, therefore the parts used to make the electric
cars cause the price for the car to rise. Considering the cost for producing electric cars is so expensive,
companies need to charge a high price in order to make a profit. This proves that the price for electric
cars should be more expensive than gasoline powered vehicles because of the battery price, it s a new
market and the technological opportunities.
To create a battery that makes an electric car run there are many different components that need to be
taken into consideration. The cost for electric car battery by itself takes up about 25% 50% of the
electric vehicle price. The main component that contribute to the majority price

The Pros And Cons Of Fingerprint Authentication
In 1997, President William J. Clinton, as cited by Woodward (2003), states that having right to privacy
is one of the most cherished freedoms by individuals. However, most of the consumers today just
cares about the convenience brought by technology. Many consumers do not like passwords and PINs
because it might be forgotten due to its complexity or it might took a lot of time to be authenticated.
Fingerprint authentication was implemented to address these problems. Vacca (2007) remarks that
consumers will use fingerprint authentication because of its convenience (p. 121). Although finger
scan technology provides the convenience, which consumers always wanted, without sacrificing
security, this technology infringes their privacy at the same time. Individuals lose their anonymity
when they disclose their biometric information. Woodward (1997) states that the individual is

According to Vacca (2007), fingerprint authentication is trusted for e commerce since most of the
Internet users are uncomfortable of disclosing their credit card information online (p. 123). Some
businesses and companies are starting to integrate fingerprint scanning into their products and
systems. Potter (2015) states that Royal Bank of Scotland would enable fingerprint authentication on
its mobile banking apps. Mobile banking users would be able to access their accounts instantly by
tapping their finger on the fingerprint sensor. According to Wielch (2014), Apple s new payment
method called Apple Pay allows consumers to transact securely without taking their credit card out.
Furthermore, Wielch (2014) states that a consumer simply holds their phone near the payment
terminals and places their finger on the Touch ID to authorize the transaction. Sustar (2014) affirms
that Apple Pay is being integrated by leading retailers, banks and credit card companies into their

Questions On Non Financial Firms
1. Introduction
The 2007 2008 crisis started off in August 2007 as a subprime mortgage crisis primarily concentrated
in the United States but quickly metamorphosized into a global financial crisis where financial
institutions teeter on the edge of bankruptcy in many countries in addition to the United States. A
global economic crisis ensues in which nonfinancial firms around the world appear to spiral
downward as well. A key potential contributor to the plight of the non financial firms is the financial
crisis itself, in the form of a negative shock to the supply of external finance needed by non financial
firms. However, as the two quotes by some leading policymakers and scholars at the beginning of the
paper indicate, the idea that non financial firms suffer from a strongly negative supply of finance
shock is not universally shared. In addition, if non financial firms do not do well, there can certainly
be other causes, such as a contraction of demand for their products.
This paper has three objectives. First, it aims to develop a simple framework that can capture and
quantify the relative importance of the finance shock to the economic health of non financial firms.
Second, in a cross country context, it aims to investigate whether the responsiveness of the real
economy to a given finance shock varies by country features that the literature suggests that could
matter, such as the type of a financial system, the nature of a monetary and exchange rate regime, or
the extent

Crucifixion Of Jesus Christ And His Death On The Cross
Crucifixion, the word makes one automatically think of Jesus Christ, and His death on the cross by to
Romans. Even if there is no previous history of Christian faith, the image of Jesus on the cross is still
prominent when thinking of crucifixion. Crucifixion, the definition given by Merriam Webster
dictionary is the crucifying of Jesus. Gerard Sloyan states, Jesus of Nazareth in Galilee died on the
cross at the hands of Roman justice, hundreds of thousands were subjected to the cruel punishment
before and after Him. Yet one is hard pressed to provide the name of another victim of crucifixion (1).

(Sloyan 15). The Romans preferred, those sentenced to crucifixion, be beaten, flogged, and tortured
before their death upon the cross. It weakened the victims to such a degree that their time on the cross
was shortened. (Sloyan 17). There has been some debate over the years as to whether the Romans
used rope or nails to affix victims of crucifixion to the cross, however evidence has been found prove
nails are used. In the 1960 s archaeologists in Jerusalem found remains of around three dozen Jews,
who had died during an uprising against Rome in A.D. 70. The remains of one victim, was found with
a seven inch nail still piercing the feet, with remains of olive wood from the cross still attached.
(Strobel 200 201). This discovery confirmed biblical connects to the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The
medical evidence, though Jesus died long before modern medicine, is still there to support the facts,
that there is no way Jesus could have survived the cross. Even before Jesus made it the cross, there is
evidence Jesus suffered and was tortured before his death.
The Jesus was preparing for his mind for the torture that was to come in the following days, so he was
naturally experiencing a great deal of psychological stress. (Strobel 194). In Luke 22:44 Jesus is
praying on the Mount of Olives, And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was
like drops of blood falling to the ground. As

such a company had been obtained because of its monopoly and there was a right to copy the shape
after its patent had expired. The term unfair competition and trademark laws could otherwise be used

The Industrial Revolution During The 19th Century Essay
The Industrial Revolution occurred in Britain from 1760 to 1840. During this time many people
moved from farming areas to the city for work. Britain had three different classes, upper, middle and
working/lower. These three classes had different living and working conditions. The lower class had
the harshest conditions and punishments out of the three, they worked 12 hours a day and then went
home to a crowded diseased ridden house late a night. The middle class actually benefitted from the
revolution, going from working in factories to owning them. And the upper class had the easiest life
out of the three, not having to work and living in beautiful mansions.
Working/lower class working conditions.
Before the industrial revolution the poor working class people had jobs in agriculture and then when
the revolution came, they had to find jobs in factories. Because working in factories was easier than in
the fields, large amounts of women and children began working. During the industrial revolution,
some of the working class benefitted from it by getting better jobs and/or becoming business owners.
But the ones that were unskilled and uneducated were stuck in the lower class. There jobs offered poor
pay which often resulted in a miserable, dreary and simple life. The working conditions were fifthly,
dangerous and extreme. Most children who worked all day every day didn t go to school which meant
they could receive an education. Without an education, the poor couldn t get

Pros And Cons Of Firefighting

Firefighting, 2 Con s, 1 Pro Firefighting is a profession that can weigh heavily on a person s emotional
and mental well being, as well as their physical health, yet be rewarding at the same time.
The first ever city fire department in the world was started in Edinburgh, Scotland,in 1824. It was
called the Edinburgh Fire Engine Company and led by James Braidwood. The London Fire Engine
Company was the next one established in London, England in 1832. On January 27, 1678 the first fire
engine company was put into service in Boston under the direction of Captain Thomas Atkins. This
company took the place of bucket brigades which had previously been used to control fires. In 1736 at

As of 2014, there were around 1,134,400 firefighters serving in 27,198 fire departments nationwide
and responding to emergencies from 58,150 fire stations. Out of the 1,134,400 firefighters, 31 percent
of them were professional firefighters and 69 percent of them were volunteers. Firefighters generally
work long shifts that include weekends and holidays. The two most common types of shifts for
firefighters are 24 hours on duty followed by 48 hours off duty, or 48 hours on duty with 96 hours off
duty. On a daily basis, firefighters work with heavy, loud and dangerous tools such as axes,
sledgehammers, chainsaws, k12 saws, the jaws of life, fire engines, SCBA (self contained breathing
apparatus), hoses, water nozzles, among many other tools and apparatus. The Personal Breathing
Apparatus (air pack) provides the firefighter with clean oxygen. It is made up of a high pressure tank,
a pressure regulator, and an air mask.
To become a completely trained firefighter it can take up to 2 years if you decide to, or have to have
your paramedic certification. The full paramedic training takes up to 10 times as long as basic EMT or
Emergency Management Technician training, which can be between one and two thousand hours of
training. Some paramedic training can take up to 2 years to complete. The average fire academy
program takes about 12 to 14 weeks to complete. That training totaling up to 600 hours or more of

Joint Child Custody
Parents separating and fighting for joint child custody is very common in today s society. Many
children of different ages go through this process and it can affect the child in many ways. A mother of
three fighting for full custody of the children and the father agreeing or opposing to it can affect the
health of the children. Child custody is more common if the parents have been apart for several years
and its expected for joint custody to be a higher possibility (Bergstrom, M., Fransson, E., Hjern, A.,

Alcohol At Sporting Events And Alcohol
In today s society, sporting events and alcohol are intertwined. Social drinking has always been a part
of the sporting spectrum, whether at a tailgate party, sports bar, professional stadium or arena, and
even at home. Collegiate sporting events are no exception to this popular pastime. However, alcohol is
not available at every NCAA sporting event. According to Mitchell (2015), only 25% of FBS colleges
allow the sale of alcohol at sporting events. Obviously, the main concern for not allowing alcohol at
sporting events is the risk of underage drinking, binge drinking, and rowdiness among students and
fans. Despite this setback, many colleges are allowing the sales of alcohol in order to decrease the
economic burden many colleges are facing. Several colleges such as the University of Maryland and
the University of Memphis have recently started implementing the sales of alcohol for this reason. Not
only is sales the main revenue stream for selling alcohol, but also sponsorship from the alcohol
companies themselves. The idea of extra revenue may sound great for many collegiate athletic
departments, but there are legal risks to take into full consideration. In a hypothetical situation where
Dr. Mark Emmert resigns as president of the NCAA, the first priority that should be implemented by
the new president should be the acceptance of alcohol sales at collegiate sporting events, specifically
championship events. When looking at the NCAA as a whole, the biggest setback that most

Postmodernism And The Future Of Literature
Postmodernism and the Future of Literature
During the 19th and early 20th, Western world experienced numerous historical events and influential
changes, including the Word Wars and technological revolutions. These phenomenons affected the
society at large, including in the aspect of art and literature. Literary historians often classified
literature from late 19th century until the end of World War II as modernism and literature after World
War II as postmodernism. Although there are no explicit definitions, common traits can often be found
that distinguished these two categories. In this paper, I will be examining modernism and

Postmodernism artists enjoyed experimenting on literary techniques, such as metanarrative and lack of
character developments, which received mixed response in literature world.
One of the most notable works in postmodernism era is Calvino s If On A Winter s Night A Traveler.
Just like many postmodern works, If On A Winter s Night A Traveler is a metafiction, using second
person narrative form to further emphasis its self consciousness. Calvino indicated his intention by
starting his book with the sentence You are about to begin reading Italo Calvino s If On A Winter s
Night Traveler (1), addressing the main character of the book as You or the Reader . In addition, the
book is high fragmented, another trait commonly found in postmodernism works. The book is divided
into 22 parts, each in the form of double chapters, alternating between numbered chapters telling story
of the character You , and unnumbered chapters containing the first chapter of 10 separate stories.
With the concept of beginning a whole new story on each unnumbered chapters, Calvino was able to
explore a wide range of genres, spanning from mystery to romance, in a single book. The
discontinuity of the chapters result in absence of clear image of characters in each stories. Even the
main story from the numbered chapters, Calvino used the advantage of having You as the main

3. Critique
Before dealing with the issue at hand let me provide general overview of principle of legality, the
basic ethical structure governing both the enactment and interpretation of criminal Statutes are the
principle of legality. It is commonly represented by the maxim nullum crimen sine lege, nulla poena
sine lege or no crime or punishment without law .This is a matter of general legislative morality since
it requires an individual to be given fair warning of what he or she may or may not do.Moreover; it
discourages state use of the criminal law for political rather than social ends. There are four key
attribute of principle of legality, which expressed in the legal principle of lexscripta (punishment must
be based on written law), lexcerta (the form and severity of punishment must be clearly defined and

The Government Should Have A Big Or Lesser Role Regulating...

Dr. Link/Mr. Sazo
Economics
There is much debate on whether the government should have a big or lesser role in regulating the
economy. Many people think that the government should be more involved, but I believe that the
government should receive a lesser role in regulating the economy because of how it affects
individuals in global trade and corporations. Less government regulation in global trade will be a
better decision and create lesser problems. The purpose of the government in a global trade is to make
sure that the transaction between consumers and producers is not interrupted. They must make sure
that goods being sent into the United States are safe and the right products. If they are not safe, it puts

What Does Today Owe Tomorrow tackles the question whether we should help the future generation
even if they have not done anything to give back. Scientists believed that (3) if we continue pouring
greenhouse gases into the atmosphere at ever rising rates, the unknown will remain substantial
because of how much of the present will affect the suffering of the future people. However,
economists in the field believe that the thing to do is to put a price on emissions of greenhouses gases
that would raise the price of gasoline and electricity. Doing this would stop emissions and people
would want to buy better and efficient cars. Because this is unknown, another likely answer is to push
harder on climate policies or increase emissions price. The last article focuses on the issue of The First
Amendment. The First Amendment (4) has become the darling of economic libertarians and corporate
lawyers who have recognized its power to immunize private enterprise from legal restraint. This has
become the patron saint for protestors in the article, First Amendment, Patron Saint of Protesters, Is
Embraced by Corporations. Because of the First Amendment, cases involving businesses have
increased from 1.5 to 2.2 a year and those involving individuals have fallen 4.2 to 3.6. With the use of
the First Amendment, corporations use this against their workers, not allowing them to use their right

The two Islamic structures are the Dome of the rock and alhambra. It is likely that both structures

The Influence Of Greek Culture
Many have called Greece the birthplace of the modern world, for so many of today s lifestyles and
governmental patterns have stayed the test of time and even been copied by many nations including

But why are we traveling to Ancient Greek you may ask out of the many powerful nations of the

The One Child Policy And Gender Bias
Everyday, people talk about major global issues, such as the economy, access to better health care, and
education. However, one major issue that still needs to be addressed in particular is access to
education for women in various countries. Women s access to education is more limited in China in
comparison to the access to education in the United States, due to the one child policy and gender
bias. Women s access to education in China is much more limited than it is to women in the United
States and one main reason for this is something called the one child policy. The one child policy
basically states that families in China are only allowed to have one child. Before the one child policy
existed, parents had families with more than one child; this often led to parents favoring the male child
(Lee, 2012, p. 41). When parents favor their male child, this is referred to as son preference and son
preference is something that has continued in China among most parents for centuries (Lee, 2012, p.
41). Male children, therefore, are preferred and more privileged, leaving little or no opportunity for the
female children to progress educationally. This gender bias has resulted in significant gender
inequalities in many respects, such as the large gap in the literacy rate or in educational attainment
between the genders (Lee, 2012, p. 41). Both the gender bias and son preference have led to the wide
literacy gap as a consequence and this is something that needs to change. If a

Simulationary Monetary Policy
Asymmetry in the credit markets result in a wedge between the costs of external funds (i.e. from banks
and other lenders) to the public, and the cost of internal funds. Thus, internal funds, bank loans and
other sources of financing are imperfect substitutes for firms. These imperfections related to credit
market frictions causes monetary policy changes to affect both the bank lending channel and the
balance sheet channel citep{Gertler1995}.
The bank lending channel underpins the role of banks as financial intermediaries, as their business
structure is designed to serve certain type of borrowers, being small to mid sized enterprises and
households, where the problem of asymmetric information emerge citep{stiglitz81}. According to the

The risk taking channel is thought to operate via three main mechanisms. First, the search for yield
mechanism, with low (nominal) interest rates increasing incentives for banks to take on more risk
citep{Rajan2005}. The second mechanism relates to the impact of low interest rates on real
valuations, incomes, and cash flows. Low rates boost asset and collateral values while tending to
reduce price volatility, which in turn downsizes the banks estimated probability of default, implying
the belief that the increase in asset values are sustainable, encouraging both borrowers and banks to
accept higher risk positions citep{Borio2012}. Third, monetary policy also affects risk taking through
the reaction function of the central bank to negative shocks. The commitment of a central bank for
lower (future) interest rates in the case of a threatening shock reduces the probability of large
downside risks, thereby encouraging banks to assume greater risk.footnote{This effect, also known as
the Greenspan or Bernanke put, operates through the textit{expected} lower interest rates rather than
textit{current} low rates themselves. Its magnitude, however, depends on the current level of the
policy rate. Anticipated interest rate reductions tend to correspond to a higher risk position when there

The Primary Compound Steel Contained Chromium
The primary compound steel contained chromium and was protected in 1865 by American
metallurgist Julius Baur and produced by the Chrome Steel Co. of Brooklyn, N.Y. This amalgam steel
was never fruitful, yet the reputation provoked an enthusiasm for chromium combination steels by
French metallurgist Henri Ami Brustlein. He soon discovered that to composite chromium with steel,
the chromium mineral should have been refined to create an expert amalgam of iron chromium
carbon. This expert amalgam would promptly break up into the melt of the pot process, generally the
recuperation of chromium would be excessively whimsical, making it impossible to control the
compound substance. Brustlein created and sold chromium amalgam steels for instruments, gun shells,
and covering plate over a time of around 15 to 20 years before any other person entered the field. For
his work in creating combination steel and related warmth medicines and applications, Brustlein
should be known as the Father of Alloy Steels.
While Brustlein was creating chromium steels, other French metallurgists were figuring out how to
noticed nickel containing metal from New Caledonia, a French region in the South Pacific. The
subsequent ferronickel was then used to add nickel to steel. The creation of nickel steel was seen in
France in 1888 by James Riley, an Englishman who made plans for comparative steels to be made at
The Steel Company of Scotland in 1889. He promptly tried these steels and reported their

Using Images And Image Optimization
It s said that a picture is equal to 1,000 words. However, in most discussions of SEO best practices,
the topic of image optimization is a bit of an afterthought. Many of today s best practice guides for
image optimization remain very similar to what an aspiring SEO might have read a decade ago. In
recent years, the emergence of social media, the emphasis placed on page speed optimization, and the
use of structured data and rich snippets have changed the game a bit. Looking ahead to the future,
SEO practitioners and business owners may need to entirely re think how they approach using images
and image optimization. But before breaking down the past, present and future of SEO for images, it s
worth looking at why this subject is an important one, and perhaps far more critical for some
industries than they may realize. Why Image Optimization Matters Businesses like accounting
software companies or psychotherapists probably place a limited emphasis of image results in search
engines. Their offerings are not highly visual, and text is a good medium for conveying their

Magic In Fantasy Mythology
Magic and myth serve a multitude of roles in the fantasy genre. Magic is often used as a significant
plot device and can exist in a fantasy work for several purposes; magic is used as a mode of
enticement to peak the reader s interest and signifier of the genre, it is used to advance the plot, and,
magic is also used as a device in which the author can explore real world concepts and contemporary
concerns in a way that is both immediate, yet removed from reality. The incorporation of traditional
mythology is also frequent in fantasy works as they are a source of inspiration that also draws the
reader s attention without requiring too much explanation for the audience to understand, they can also
aid the work in becoming more relatable to the reader s own reality. The incorporation of mythology
could have a religious agenda as in C.S. Lewis s The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. Lewis uses
magic and the fantasy genre to incorporate Christian mythology and create a text which serves as an
introduction to Christianity, in a way that he believes will interest children. The inclusion of
mythology in fantasy fiction also connects the reader s own reality to the fictitious one in the text,
making the text feel more applicable to the reader s own life. In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of
Azkaban, J.K. Rowling uses magic as a device to create major plot points, for example, the magic that
protects Harry throughout the series due to his mother s sacrificial death, and even more

the missional aspect of the student ministry, but also the reasoning behind this aspect. Reid s chapters
recognize the issues that many student ministries deal with and how the ministry can go from just an
event to a mission ministry. Throughout this book review I will summarize the content and highlight

He also claims, This book is not intended to focus on what is wrong in student ministry, however, but
to offer a new (or renewed) way of thinking (Reid 18). Here Reid clearly states what the purpose of
this book is and not to necessarily fix the ministry, but rather enhance it and provide a new way of
thinking about missions. Reid then goes on throughout chapter one to explain in detail the purposes in
missional ministry and why. In this section Reid explains that the students today as a generation are
leaning toward challenges and making a difference. He even goes as far as defining this word,
Missional: to see the world with the eyes of a missionary, to think like a missionary and to relate to
others as a missionary with a message of the gospel. In short, life is ministry. Make disciples as you go
(Reid 27). Reid goes on explaining the missional shift that has happened in the western church and
how this can impact the student ministry as a whole. This idea of missional ministry in the student
ministry is simply not in perspective and Reid covers this. He goes throughout many chapters
explaining how the bar has been set too low and why this missional aspect is not being brought up in
student ministry. Reid then centers in on the gospel in chapter two and what this means as it impacts
the missional ministry. The main point of this is so that one understands that the reasoning of the
gospel is not solely

Religious Prayer Within Public Schools
Religious prayer within public schools has been a heated debate for many years and ultimately has
caught national attention. Overtime many court cases have challenge this issue. The Constitution itself
is on the fence of religious prayer because of the First Amendment s freedom of speech clause which
prohibits the government s involvement with the freedom of exercise of religion. The policy of
religious prayer within Mississippi public schools is a state policy level. In the year of 2013, Governor
Phil Bryant of Mississippi signed a bill/law that protects voluntary prayers from students on public
school property and other public property. This policy also protects student prayers at public school
related events such as praying over public school intercoms, at assemblies, and sporting events. In
addition, the policy allows students to openly discuss their faith with classrooms and permits students
to establish organizations such as a bible club. To clarify, the term protection does not imply that the
law is promoting any religion or religious belief. However, it is against the law for administration
from public schools to lead a public school prayer.

I was an only child for much of my childhood and we moved around a lot, so while I was growing up,
books were my constant and usually only friends. The books I ve selected for my bookshelf are what I
feel my progression in taste of books looks like in relation to my personal growth.
I included Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban because it s my favorite out of the entire series,

universal cultural phenomenon that I was so excited to be part of. I grew up reading the series and

a Harry Potter premiere when I had the chance.

I cite Grendel as the starting point of my foray into existentialism and philosophy in general. Grendel

Song Analysis Of The Song Czerwone Make Na Monte Cassino
Czerwone Make Na Monte Cassino is a Polish World War II military song. It was written about the
fight against a German stronghold in a Benedictine monastery on Monte Cassino. Though the Allies
had been fighting at Cassino since mid January, the Polish forces joined for the fourth and final round
of assaults on May 11, 1944. This victory allowed Allied forces to advance to Rome. Composed
during the night of May 17, 1944, Czerwone Maki Na Monte Cassino is collaboration between Alfred
Schutz and Feliks Konarski. Schutz was a composer, and actor in the Polish Soldiers Theater at

The Murder Of The Manson Family By Timothy Dwight
A murderer is normally defined by the psychological attributes that define him or her. These killers
often suffer from a psychotic delusion that forces them to commit their horrific crimes. However,
those who are pronounced sane and rational have a moral conviction that drives them to kill. It is this
principle that separates the average murder from the psychotic sadists that believes in what he or she
does. Charles Manson, leader of the Manson Family, believed in the apocalyptic war of Helter Skelter,
the uprising of blacks and the mass genocide of whites (Whitehead). Manson s firm conviction about

Due to his hormonal deficiency, Leopold became socially reclusive, often not talking to anyone. His
counterpart, Loeb, was handsome and societal person. However, he possessed a demonical side, the

attributes that define the murderers are still the same. Whereas Loeb and Leopold focus on a
philosophical conundrum, Beadle is faced with a moral conundrum. However, these characters share a
common dilemma, such as social repression, that emulates the personality of a murderer. It is these
ideals and motivations that exemplify the motivation and belief system that drive a person to kill. As
such, these stories are commendable examples that embody the true crime genre. The aftermath of the

Beadle, accustomed to a luxurious lifestyle, would rather face death than be considered part of the

called the Mirador Basin project. In the article El Mirador, the lost city of the Maya the author Chip
Brown explains how Hansen has excavated, explored and mapped 51 ancient cities in the Mirador
Basin and he has observed how the achievements of the Pre Classic Maya were reflected in the way
they made the leap from clans and chiefdoms to complex societies with class hierarchies and a
cohesive ideology. According to his discoveries he thinks that the mapped sites in the Mirador Basin
may have formed the earliest well defined political state in Mesoamerica. An early political state or

Greeting To An American Essay
There are certain customs based on the specific country a person should follow when entering a
country that is not familiar with them. This means that if a person is about to operate or visit a country,
they should study their specific customs so there isn t any miscommunication. For example, when
greeting someone, man to man, a handshake with the right hand is a common form and will possibly
linger a bit during the conversation. To women to women, a verbal greeting or even a handshake is
also common. Between a man and woman, verbal greetings are also welcome, along with a handshake
in a more formal or business situation. In Senegal, greetings are very important and questions about
your health, family, and different pleasantries. When greeting someone, do not rush the greeting and
hold a positive relationship. This is due to personal relationships being an important factor. ... Show

Self-Analysis Essay 5th Grade
Self Analysis Essay 6th grade was a big year for me, and I think I have really changed since 5th grade.
6th grade had its ups and downs, but I think i ve got the hang of it. Homework and tests challenged
me, but I always knew I could handle it. From all of the people who helped me and cheered me on,
they are the real MVP s. Next year, I know I can do better. One thing that inspires me is my guitar and
other guitar players. Whenever I have a hard time studying I always put on some classic rock. It feels
as if the lyrics to the song make me more focused on what I am trying to achieve. Plus listening and
watching guitar players play inspires me to play better. So I think that my guitar inspires me the most.

General Background Information: CMS Systems, Inc. is a company that provides information systems
consulting services to companies in the telecom industry in the United States and the United

Employees currently log their time using an Excel worksheet. An example of this worksheet is
presented below. Notice that the employee s supervisor is listed on the worksheet. A supervisor is
currently required to approve his/her employees timesheets by placing his/her initials beside his/her
name. Deliverable: For this project, you are required to create the GUI for a timekeeping/payroll
system for CMS. The system should first allow an employee to enter his/her name and record the time
he worked on each project for a given week. Using the spreadsheet above as a guideline, the system
must allow the user to enter his/her name and the name of his/her supervisor. Next, the user must enter
the number of the week for which he is entering time. Assume a maximum of 52 weeks in a year.
Make sure the employee enters only a valid week number. To record an employee s hours, the user
must enter the name of a client, a client s contract and a project. For each of the 7 days in a week, the
user must enter hours worked or check a box that indicates the day is a weekend, a holiday, or a
vacation day. If the employee fails to enter any hours for a day and fails to check the
weekend/holiday/vacation box for that day, the system should warn the user that the given day is
missing information. The system should also ensure that if any work hours are entered for a day, the
checkbox for that day should NOT be checked. Finally, the system should

Why Is It Always Wrong To Prove Anything Upon Insufficient...
SYNOPSIS In this essay, I will criticize W.K. Clifford s main claim that it is always wrong,
everywhere, and for anyone, to believe anything upon insufficient evidence. I will prove it is not
wrong to form a belief without sufficient evidence, by engaging with ineffability. In the first section, I
will begin by presenting Clifford s main argument for why it is always wrong to believe anything
upon insufficient evidence. In the second section, I will define and explain The Representation
Principle. Since Clifford does not clearly define what constitutes sufficient evidence, I will employ
The Representation Principle as one requirement for sufficient evidence. The Representation Principle
states: it is impossible to acquire sufficient evidence if someone is unable to fully represent all of the
relevant information. In the third section, I will present my argument for refraining from forming
beliefs, also referenced as The RFB Argument. I conclude that in some cases it is wrong for human
beings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clifford presents a case involving an individual holding a belief upon insufficient evidence. He
describes a ship owner who sincerely believes in the soundness of his ship when he sends it on a
journey, holding a great number of people aboard. However, he acquired his belief in the soundness of
the ship by stifling his doubts about the flaws of the boat, rather than by honestly seeking the truth.
Clifford claims the ship owner is wrong in holding his belief, since he did not form his belief on
sufficient evidence. Regardless of the outcome of the ship s journey, the ship owner believed wrongly.
Clifford s argument can be presented as follows: 1. In the ship owner case, the ship owner believed
wrongly. 2. If the ship owner believed wrongly, then it is always wrong, everywhere, and for anyone,
to believe anything upon insufficient evidence. C. So, It is always wrong, everywhere, and for anyone,
to believe anything upon insufficient

Theme Of Patriarchy In The Epic Of Gilgamesh
For centuries, books, television shows, even beloved childhood movies have subtly reinforced the
social construct of patriarchy. Classic movies such as Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty follow the
typical story line of a damsel in distress, followed by a heroic man coming to her rescue. This
conception of a male focused storyline is nothing new and is an aspect that constitutes patriarchy,
which has existed since the advent of agriculture and has persisted throughout the centuries. In fact,
patriarchy was a major theme that was reinforced in the first story ever recovered; The Epic of
Gilgamesh was written as early as 2000 BC in Mesopotamia and is loosely based on the Sumerian
king, Gilgamesh. The story tells of Gilgamesh s adventures with his friend Enkidu as they conquer
everything from other men to the Bull of Heaven. Throughout the story, patriarchy is heavily
reinforced. Although the driving force behind patriarchy is personal attainment of security and status,
a number of objectively undesirable events result such as the subjugation of women and societies that
value control and dominance. The narrator reinforces different aspects of patriarchy in The Epic of
Gilgamesh by portraying men in a good light and women in a bad one, focusing society around males,
withholding agency from female females, normalizing violence, and creating the need for unequal
relationships between men and women.
The narrator of this epic consistently reinforced the stereotypical gender roles and

Kahlo s Self-Portrait With Cropped Hair
Suffering is a consistent and main theme of Kahlo s paintings. She chose to reveal her inner side
through a number of self portraits. As such, the fundamental theme was herself, and the primary
reason for painting them was to record the reality in which she lived. As she said, I paint self portraits
because I am so often alone, because I am the subject I know best. She probably could perform an in
depth self analysis through a mirror as she spent several of her time alone lying in bed (Kettenmann
Andrea, 2002). Except for a few still lifes she painted before her death, most of Kahlo s paintings were
portraits of herself and her family and friends. Among her 200 or so pieces of work, 55 pieces were
her portraits. Her portraits have various ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She painted this piece to identify her identity as Mexican. For this painting, she was inspired by an
image of a mother breastfeeding her baby, which is one of her collections of art before Columbus.
Kahlo also continued to show her interest in her identity or existence, including her patriotism,
lineage, and family, which can be seen in My Grandparents, My Parents and I (1936) (Figure 11). In
this painting, she is emphasizing her existence through a young self, standing behind a small tree,
holding a ribbon connecting her grandparents and parents. Her lineage can be revealed by taking a
look at her genealogy. In the painting, Kahlo s maternal Indian grandfather and maternal Spanish
grandmother stand next to her mother. A European couple, who are her paternal grandparents, is next
to her father. Kahlo is expressing her dual lineage by painting two different backgrounds on the left
and right sides, and is drawing attention to her existence by describing herself as an insecure child.
The ribbon s knot in her hands indicates the encounter between her mother and father, her fateful
birth, a blood bonding. The painting can be considered a family portrait that symbolizes her identity,
ethnicity, tradition, and

Essay On Landlords
Saving Drains From Tenant Tyranny: 10 Ways Landlords Can Keep Their Plumbing Clog Free
Owning rental property can be rewarding and lucrative, but it can sometimes be one headache after
another, especially if tenants misuse or abuse your apartments. Clogged pipes are one instance where
being a landlord can literally drain your time and money to no end. Here are 10 helpful ways to avoid
that mess, once and for all.
1. Specify Who Is Responsible For Clogs In The Lease
You should include a clause in the lease your tenants sign, indicating if they or you will be responsible
for drain cleaning and clogs. Failure to include this information will likely leave you on the hook
every time a slight issue arises with drains. Be sure to read this ... Show more content on

This preventative action, too, will work in your favor if the next tenant tries to complain that persistent
clogging is a result of your inaction.
4. Stock Up On Drain Screens For Your Tubs
Drain screens are cheap and easy to store and while you don t want to make a habit of buying things
your tenants should be buying themselves, having extra screens on hand may be worthwhile if doing
so prevents those annoying and often time consuming clogs. You could limit the number of free
screens you provide each tenant, but since you can t force them to buy their own, giving them away
will likely save you money and time in the long run.
5. Equip Washing Machine Hoses With Lint Catchers
If you own washing machines on the property, be sure and equip them all with lint catchers. This will
eliminate a lot of added debris from entering the system and potentially causing more clogs.
6. Never Rinse Your Carpenter Tools In The Sinks
Whether you or hired professionals take care of re grouting, caulking and other carpentry jobs at your
rental units, make sure no one ever uses the sinks to rinse tools off. Even when it s only done
occasionally, all that goop going down the drains can add up to costly clogs later.
7. Clean Pop Up Stoppers Regularly
All of your bathroom sinks should have pop up stoppers in them and it s a good idea for you (or your

Biopsychosocial Interview Paper Sample
For this assignment, I chose to perform my interview on my roommate s boyfriend; Jose Sandoval. I
have been friends with him for about one year, the time that he has been dating my roommate. I have
to say that we get along very well, he often comes to hang out at our apartment and we have shared
some good times; the three of us together. To be honest, I thought I knew him pretty well up to this
point. Well, I was wrong. After completing the interview, I was able to learn so many new things about
his background, which I will happily share now for this assignment. This paper will transcribe his life
story with three major areas of focus. My first focus will revolve around his life before moving to the
United States. Secondly, I will describe his immigration process and lastly, the paper will also touch
on how his life progressed once living in the United States.
First and foremost, this section carries out a detailed interview on Jose s life before his arrival to the
United States of America. Where I discussed his family bond and focused on his growing up
environment and his biculturalism through playing Mexican and American games and the constant
migration and tourism that revolved around this city.
My interviewer made reference of having a strong bond among his family while growing up. His
family was composed by his father, mother and two older siblings; brother and sister, who always
treated him, like their own son. They spoke to each other in Spanish, did everything

Wizard Of Oz Analyse
Conor I thought the Wizard of Oz was a bright and colorful moving. Being a movie that was
transitioning from a black film to color it really emphasized every single color imaginable. All the
colors remind of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or Candyland. I like how Emerald city stayed true
to one color to make it unique which was green. It really conveyed to the audience why it was called
Emerald City just of its color scheme alone. I felt bad for the tin man because all that makeup must of
been hard to wear? I loved the color scheme that the wicked Witch of the West had. The dark green
paint on her face and mole really captured the essence of evil. Dorothy really annoyed me in the
movie. Her accent was just awful, and she spoke like a little

Working Mothers Face A Whirlwind Of Responsibilities
Introduction Working mothers face a whirlwind of responsibilities. The working mother struggles
between both her family obligations along with her work obligations creating a constant clash between
which obligations are considered more important. A healthy balance between both spheres is hard to
develop without the help or give of the other. Work life balance or work family culture, as defined by
Chang, Chin and Ye is the, shared values and assumptions regarding the extent to which a company
supports the integration of employees work and family lives (2014). Work life balance and work
family culture are interchangeably used to demonstrate the same desired affect of balancing both

Work family conflict or conflict due to work interfering with family is said to occur whenever work
responsibilities interfere with family demands (Fiksenbaum 2014). With the demands of the world
today, it is causing more of a blur between work time and family time. It is easier than ever for bosses
to communicate with their employees about work business after the employee has already left the
building, creating a constant conflict between family and work. Working mothers struggle between the
high demands of work as well as their family obligations and too few employers are taking notice.
Women will often decide to quit their jobs and become stay at home mothers because they feel they
are falling behind on their home responsibilities or they are burned out from trying to balance both of
their obligations. However, in order for employers to keep their high preforming employees several
have decided to investigate and create programs; through the use of job design and job analysis,
coupled with the help from their human resource personnel on how to create programs in order retain
top talent. Historically, employers would not even bother with such initiatives but they are finding
with retaining and keeping their top employees productivity continues to grow. Literature Review

Should Gaming Be A Sport Essay
Should Gaming Be A Sport?
I for one am for gaming be considered a sport. I am one of the guilty ones who can play them hours at
a time and maybe 8 hours straight but that s rare now. I ve had experience with gaming since I was
only three years old at which I had a gaming console, the Xbox 360. There are of course the people
who hate gamers and call them lazy then telling them to do something productive. Sure they could be
right in some aspect but what they don t realize what our brains are doing. That is a key point in which
this topic will be discussed.
Again with the people who hate gaming, most of them haven t even touched a game before and if they
have they most likely hated or didn t want anything to do with it. It s all about how you want to play
and getting better at it. Many people believe gaming is a useless effort which does no good for your
brains or body, while the body part can be true for those who don t actually do anything proactive as a
hobby can gain weight if they eat a lot while gaming or lose weight if they starve themselves to ...

In my opinion yes, in some, no. It s all personal preference. The thing is, gaming already is a sport
somewhat, it s something called an eSport (electronic sport). Sure you can argue about how it s not a
true sport but it s mainly a hobby that doesn t require much physique to do. There are tournaments all
over the world that take place every year and many years before now and those that will come after. In
July 2014, an outstanding 11,000 people stuffed themselves into a basketball arena in Seattle. They
were not there to watch a basketball game, but to watch gamers compete for $11 million in prize
money. These tournaments make gamers be competitive and sometimes rage induced for these kinds
of events for a good cause. Gaming takes an immense amount of practice, focus, and dedication which
is why gaming should be considered an official

  • 4. The Reluctant Fundamentalist Essay Fundamentalism is a strict adherence to a set of ideas or beliefs that are conservative in nature. It is a pejorative term usually associated with religious fanaticism. Usually, this is what comes to mind when there is mention of a fundamentalist. However, in Mohsin Hamid s The Reluctant Fundamentalist starring the protagonist Changez, a Pakistani Princetonian who is a top ranked employee at a prestigious New York valuation firm, turns out not to be an Islamic fundamentalist, but a reluctant fundamentalist of US Capitalism. Hamid challenges readers to reevaluate their preconceived notions and prejudices of people different from themselves in post 9/11 America by employing the use of motifs, aphorism, and suspense, to create a conflation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hamid, through his choice of names, brilliantly doubles his characters as motifs. All the significant characters have a symbolic identity and thus, he is simultaneously telling two stories, but not in the traditional sense expected of a frame story, for this is not a story within a story, but rather, a story behind a story. The frame takes Changez back to the past, but when he finishes retelling the past, the frame is no more and the reader is back in the present. Therefore, when the past is put in conjunction with the happenings in the cafe, only one story is being told. The second story is conveyed through the interaction of the motifs and requires a little intuition (not that much) on the reader s part to decipher its meaning. In using the motifs to convey a variety of messages, the relationship between Changez and Erica is especially saturated with clues of their secret identities. Erica had only one previous lover, Chris, her childhood sweetheart who died of cancer in late adolescence and whom she is never able to let go. Initially, she was severely depressed but eventually recovered from the ordeal. However, as Erica s intimacy with Changez grows, so does her feeling of nostalgia. The September 11 attacks triggers a relapse in Erica and she becomes more and more obsessed with Chris. She rejects Changez physically and is only able to have sex with him when they pretend ... This report analyses the whole process which is followed in order to make a personal decision related with the buy a hatchback for city driving: from the identification and structuring of the problem to the appraisal of the alternative solution (French et all, 2009,pp 81). As it happens in any imminent decision regarding a purchase, an assiduous market research is required. The brochures of the major automobile companies and the car web sites constitute the main information source which will be used for the designation of the criteria and the elicitation of their values. Due to the fact that the criteria which are taken into consideration are more than two, Multiple Criteria Decision Analysis(MCDA) will be applied. The MCDA is supported by the use of the IDS software. The data and its calculation as well as any output of IDS tool, are presented explicitly in the respective appendices. 2. Methodology As it is referred above, the objective of this problem is to take a decision concerning the purchase of a new city car. • 11. Electric Cars Vs Electric Cars Throughout modern times we have seen and witnessed many advancements of technologies. One of the major advancements in environmental friendly technology we have seen include electric vehicles. Electric vehicles have brought us about many advantages, but there are reasons why electric vehicles should cost more than conventional gasoline cars. Electric car sales have raised to 2 million dollars in 2016 after being almost non existent in 2010. EV s run on electricity, compared to conventional vehicles that use a gas or diesel powered engine. These cars average around $1.14 per eGallon, compared to $3.65 a gallon for gas. Nevertheless they have a major obstacle when it comes to entering and doing well in today s market due to the high price. Electric cars use different parts that cost more to produce, therefore the parts used to make the electric cars cause the price for the car to rise. Considering the cost for producing electric cars is so expensive, companies need to charge a high price in order to make a profit. This proves that the price for electric cars should be more expensive than gasoline powered vehicles because of the battery price, it s a new market and the technological opportunities. To create a battery that makes an electric car run there are many different components that need to be taken into consideration. The cost for electric car battery by itself takes up about 25% 50% of the electric vehicle price. The main component that contribute to the majority price ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, most of the consumers today just cares about the convenience brought by technology. Many consumers do not like passwords and PINs because it might be forgotten due to its complexity or it might took a lot of time to be authenticated. Fingerprint authentication was implemented to address these problems. Vacca (2007) remarks that consumers will use fingerprint authentication because of its convenience (p. 121). • 13. Questions On Non Financial Firms 1. Introduction The 2007 2008 crisis started off in August 2007 as a subprime mortgage crisis primarily concentrated in the United States but quickly metamorphosized into a global financial crisis where financial institutions teeter on the edge of bankruptcy in many countries in addition to the United States. A global economic crisis ensues in which nonfinancial firms around the world appear to spiral downward as well. A key potential contributor to the plight of the non financial firms is the financial crisis itself, in the form of a negative shock to the supply of external finance needed by non financial firms. However, as the two quotes by some leading policymakers and scholars at the beginning of the paper indicate, the idea that non financial firms suffer from a strongly negative supply of finance shock is not universally shared. In addition, if non financial firms do not do well, there can certainly be other causes, such as a contraction of demand for their products. This paper has three objectives. First, it aims to develop a simple framework that can capture and quantify the relative importance of the finance shock to the economic health of non financial firms. Second, in a cross country context, it aims to investigate whether the responsiveness of the real economy to a given finance shock varies by country features that the literature suggests that could matter, such as the type of a financial system, the nature of a monetary and exchange rate regime, or the extent ... Even if there is no previous history of Christian faith, the image of Jesus on the cross is still prominent when thinking of crucifixion. Crucifixion, the definition given by Merriam Webster dictionary is the crucifying of Jesus. Gerard Sloyan states, Jesus of Nazareth in Galilee died on the cross at the hands of Roman justice, hundreds of thousands were subjected to the cruel punishment before and after Him. The Romans preferred, those sentenced to crucifixion, be beaten, flogged, and tortured before their death upon the cross. It weakened the victims to such a degree that their time on the cross was shortened. (Sloyan 17). There has been some debate over the years as to whether the Romans used rope or nails to affix victims of crucifixion to the cross, however evidence has been found prove nails are used. In the 1960 s archaeologists in Jerusalem found remains of around three dozen Jews, who had died during an uprising against Rome in A.D. 70. The remains of one victim, was found with a seven inch nail still piercing the feet, with remains of olive wood from the cross still attached. (Strobel 200 201). This discovery confirmed biblical connects to the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The medical evidence, though Jesus died long before modern medicine, is still there to support the facts, that there is no way Jesus could have survived the cross. Even before Jesus made it the cross, there is evidence Jesus suffered and was tortured before his death. The Jesus was preparing for his mind for the torture that was to come in the following days, so he was naturally experiencing a great deal of psychological stress. (Strobel 194). • 16. The Industrial Revolution During The 19th Century Essay The Industrial Revolution occurred in Britain from 1760 to 1840. During this time many people moved from farming areas to the city for work. Britain had three different classes, upper, middle and working/lower. These three classes had different living and working conditions. The lower class had the harshest conditions and punishments out of the three, they worked 12 hours a day and then went home to a crowded diseased ridden house late a night. The middle class actually benefitted from the revolution, going from working in factories to owning them. And the upper class had the easiest life out of the three, not having to work and living in beautiful mansions. Working/lower class working conditions. Before the industrial revolution the poor working class people had jobs in agriculture and then when the revolution came, they had to find jobs in factories. Because working in factories was easier than in the fields, large amounts of women and children began working. During the industrial revolution, some of the working class benefitted from it by getting better jobs and/or becoming business owners. But the ones that were unskilled and uneducated were stuck in the lower class. There jobs offered poor pay which often resulted in a miserable, dreary and simple life. The working conditions were fifthly, dangerous and extreme. Most children who worked all day every day didn t go to school which meant they could receive an education. According to Mitchell (2015), only 25% of FBS colleges allow the sale of alcohol at sporting events. Obviously, the main concern for not allowing alcohol at sporting events is the risk of underage drinking, binge drinking, and rowdiness among students and fans. Despite this setback, many colleges are allowing the sales of alcohol in order to decrease the economic burden many colleges are facing. Several colleges such as the University of Maryland and the University of Memphis have recently started implementing the sales of alcohol for this reason. Not only is sales the main revenue stream for selling alcohol, but also sponsorship from the alcohol companies themselves. The idea of extra revenue may sound great for many collegiate athletic departments, but there are legal risks to take into full consideration. In a hypothetical situation where Dr. Mark Emmert resigns as president of the NCAA, the first priority that should be implemented by the new president should be the acceptance of alcohol sales at collegiate sporting events, specifically championship events. When looking at the NCAA as a whole, the biggest setback that most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These phenomenons affected the society at large, including in the aspect of art and literature. Postmodernism artists enjoyed experimenting on literary techniques, such as metanarrative and lack of character developments, which received mixed response in literature world. One of the most notable works in postmodernism era is Calvino s If On A Winter s Night A Traveler. Just like many postmodern works, If On A Winter s Night A Traveler is a metafiction, using second person narrative form to further emphasis its self consciousness. Calvino indicated his intention by starting his book with the sentence You are about to begin reading Italo Calvino s If On A Winter s Night Traveler (1), addressing the main character of the book as You or the Reader . In addition, the book is high fragmented, another trait commonly found in postmodernism works. The book is divided into 22 parts, each in the form of double chapters, alternating between numbered chapters telling story of the character You , and unnumbered chapters containing the first chapter of 10 separate stories. With the concept of beginning a whole new story on each unnumbered chapters, Calvino was able to explore a wide range of genres, spanning from mystery to romance, in a single book. The discontinuity of the chapters result in absence of clear image of characters in each stories. However, one major issue that still needs to be addressed in particular is access to education for women in various countries. Women s access to education is more limited in China in comparison to the access to education in the United States, due to the one child policy and gender bias. Women s access to education in China is much more limited than it is to women in the United States and one main reason for this is something called the one child policy. The one child policy basically states that families in China are only allowed to have one child. Before the one child policy existed, parents had families with more than one child; this often led to parents favoring the male child (Lee, 2012, p. 41). When parents favor their male child, this is referred to as son preference and son preference is something that has continued in China among most parents for centuries (Lee, 2012, p. 41). Male children, therefore, are preferred and more privileged, leaving little or no opportunity for the female children to progress educationally. This gender bias has resulted in significant gender inequalities in many respects, such as the large gap in the literacy rate or in educational attainment between the genders (Lee, 2012, p. 41). Both the gender bias and son preference have led to the wide literacy gap as a consequence and this is something that needs to change. If a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mayan Archaeological Investigation When I was faced with choosing what archaeological site I should pick for this research project, I had no site in mind except that I wanted to pick one that would teach me the most about past civilizations, but also about what archaeological investigation entails. El Mirador or the the lost Mayan city is a huge site that s area in total is larger than Los Angles. By 2008, Hansen and his team had published over 100 scientific papers and many more technical reports and scientific presentations. Hansen s work still continues today as he is the director of what is called the Mirador Basin project. In the article El Mirador, the lost city of the Maya the author Chip Brown explains how Hansen has excavated, explored and mapped 51 ancient cities in the Mirador Basin and he has observed how the achievements of the Pre Classic Maya were reflected in the way they made the leap from clans and chiefdoms to complex societies with class hierarchies and a cohesive ideology. According to his discoveries he thinks that the mapped sites in the Mirador Basin may have formed the earliest well defined political state in Mesoamerica. An early political state or not, this leap that the Maya were able to make at the time was not due to simple one factor but many. In the article Top 10 Discoveries of 2009 Popol Vuh Relief by Zach Zorich who describes that there was a fairly new discovery that was found while a team was investigating the water collection system at the city El Mirador. What they found was a sculptural panel with one of the earliest depictions of the Maya creation story, the Popol Vuh. The depiction of the Maya mythology is not all though, Zorich explains that the sculptural panel decorates the wall of a channel that was meant to funnel water through the central administrative area of the city. According to Hansen every roof and plaza in the city was designed to guide rainwater into the reservoir and while a rainforest does not seem to a place of drought, the Mirador Basin gets very little rain from January through May. Clifford s main claim that it is always wrong, everywhere, and for anyone, to believe anything upon insufficient evidence. I will prove it is not wrong to form a belief without sufficient evidence, by engaging with ineffability. In the first section, I will begin by presenting Clifford s main argument for why it is always wrong to believe anything upon insufficient evidence. In the second section, I will define and explain The Representation Principle. Since Clifford does not clearly define what constitutes sufficient evidence, I will employ The Representation Principle as one requirement for sufficient evidence. The Representation Principle states: it is impossible to acquire sufficient evidence if someone is unable to fully represent all of the relevant information. In the third section, I will present my argument for refraining from forming beliefs, also referenced as The RFB Argument. I conclude that in some cases it is wrong for human beings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clifford presents a case involving an individual holding a belief upon insufficient evidence. However, he acquired his belief in the soundness of the ship by stifling his doubts about the flaws of the boat, rather than by honestly seeking the truth. Clifford claims the ship owner is wrong in holding his belief, since he did not form his belief on sufficient evidence. Regardless of the outcome of the ship s journey, the ship owner believed wrongly. Clifford s argument can be presented as follows: 1. In the ship owner case, the ship owner believed wrongly. 2. If the ship owner believed wrongly, then it is always wrong, everywhere, and for anyone, to believe anything upon insufficient evidence. C. • 46. Theme Of Patriarchy In The Epic Of Gilgamesh For centuries, books, television shows, even beloved childhood movies have subtly reinforced the social construct of patriarchy. Classic movies such as Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty follow the typical story line of a damsel in distress, followed by a heroic man coming to her rescue. This conception of a male focused storyline is nothing new and is an aspect that constitutes patriarchy, which has existed since the advent of agriculture and has persisted throughout the centuries. In fact, patriarchy was a major theme that was reinforced in the first story ever recovered; The Epic of Gilgamesh was written as early as 2000 BC in Mesopotamia and is loosely based on the Sumerian king, Gilgamesh. The story tells of Gilgamesh s adventures with his friend Enkidu as they conquer everything from other men to the Bull of Heaven. Throughout the story, patriarchy is heavily reinforced. Although the driving force behind patriarchy is personal attainment of security and status, a number of objectively undesirable events result such as the subjugation of women and societies that value control and dominance. The narrator reinforces different aspects of patriarchy in The Epic of Gilgamesh by portraying men in a good light and women in a bad one, focusing society around males, withholding agency from female females, normalizing violence, and creating the need for unequal relationships between men and women. The narrator of this epic consistently reinforced the stereotypical gender roles and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A European couple, who are her paternal grandparents, is next to her father. Kahlo is expressing her dual lineage by painting two different backgrounds on the left and right sides, and is drawing attention to her existence by describing herself as an insecure child. Clogged pipes are one instance where being a landlord can literally drain your time and money to no end. Here are 10 helpful ways to avoid that mess, once and for all. 1. Specify Who Is Responsible For Clogs In The Lease You should include a clause in the lease your tenants sign, indicating if they or you will be responsible for drain cleaning and clogs. Stock Up On Drain Screens For Your Tubs Drain screens are cheap and easy to store and while you don t want to make a habit of buying things your tenants should be buying themselves, having extra screens on hand may be worthwhile if doing so prevents those annoying and often time consuming clogs. You could limit the number of free screens you provide each tenant, but since you can t force them to buy their own, giving them away will likely save you money and time in the long run. 5. Equip Washing Machine Hoses With Lint Catchers If you own washing machines on the property, be sure and equip them all with lint catchers. This will eliminate a lot of added debris from entering the system and potentially causing more clogs. 6. Never Rinse Your Carpenter Tools In The Sinks Whether you or hired professionals take care of re grouting, caulking and other carpentry jobs at your rental units, make sure no one ever uses the sinks to rinse tools off. Even when it s only done occasionally, all that goop going down the drains can add up to costly clogs later. 7.
