Junk Food In Schools (A Serious Epidemic)
Junk Food In Schools ( A Serious Epidemic) Junk food according to Merriam Webster s dictionary is
food that is high in calories but low in nutritional content (Merriam s Webster Dictionary). It is a very
unhealthy group of foods that Americans eat and is part of the lifestyle of the average american. Junk
Food is very common in American schools, and Scholars and Scientists alike have attributed this to
the extreme rise of obesity in the United States. Junk foods should be prohibited in schools because,
they lead to obesity, they worsen the medical expenses of the US economy and its citizens, and they
sabotage the human health with long term consequences.;

The amount of money used to treat patients with health related reasons stemming from consumption
of junk food is extreme and hurts the economy and its GDP (Gross Domestic Product). Renowned
authors Deborah Lee and Nancy Sprague testify that Economically, US health care spending on
chronic illness as a percent of gross domestic product is substantial (Point: Public Schools 5). This
quote on its own should be able to raise awareness in the fight against junk food in schools and it
needs to be heard. Absolute amounts of how much the government spends on these health related
illnesses have not been calculated but the numbers are expected to be at very high amounts. Speaking
of economic health costs, another way junk food negatively impacts the economy is through the way
they affect the revenue of companies that provide healthy food. It is of utmost importance that people
know that Financial challenges find families purchasing cost effective foods which tend not to be the
healthiest products the local supermarket stock. (Point: Public Schools 9) according to authors Lee and
Sprague . One way people will be able to avoid buying junk food is if companies that provide healthy
dieting reduce the prices of their goods so that financially challenged families will not have to resort to
cheap junk food to be able to live. With this method, they will be able to afford healthy food to feed
themselves and others. Another major problem is that the

as some may be interested in what the business is doing and how is it performing however some
stakeholders will not even care about your business. For example you are into a project in which your

however, crossing an individual who intends on building their ideas from the ground up is rare

The Effect Of Phonetic And Semantic Encoding On Correct...
Abstract
The current lab experiment was a partial replication of Craik and Tulving s 1975 study. The aim was
to investigate the effect of phonetic and semantic encoding on correct recognition of words. The
research hypothesis was semantically encoded words have a higher rate of correct recognition then
words that have been phonetically encoded. This was a one tailed hypothesis, as previous research
supported it. The null hypothesis was that the results will show no difference between words that are
successfully recognised from the two levels of encoding, and any difference will be due to chance.
The independent variable was the encoding level Phonetic or Semantic and the dependent variable
was the number of correctly recognized words on a standardized recognition sheet. An independent
measures design was used, with opportunity sampling to select 20 participants 10 male, 10 female
who were split into phonetic and semantic groups of 10 each. The findings were that phonetic
encoding had a mean of 17.2, and semantic encoding had a mean of 27.8. The Mann Whitney U test
showed that the results had a significance level of 0.01. Therefore, this experiment s data can be
considered 99% significant; the research hypothesis was supported and the null hypothesis was
rejected.

commonly used Wi Fi basically work in 2.4G wireless frequency band, using 802.11b / g protocol. But
as more and more equipment is added to the 2.4GHz, the channel became very crowded between 2.4

wireless mouse, Bluetooth and other). The crowded channel will make the equipment to seize

Essay on Confucianism and Daoism
Confucianism and Daoism Confucian and Daoist views were important for the shaping and
development of mankind in the past. They were views that existed among the eastern Asian countries.
They had both similarities and differences in the way they shaped out self knowledge and self
cultivation. Also there was other outside forces that played a major role in their theories. Nature and
art were said to have helped shape the human race as we know it. Confucianism and Daoism seem to
be complete polar opposites but there are some similarities between the two. One way that they are
similar is that they both focus on the goal of self improvement. Their teachings both agree that people

Do not be upset, do not be startled; all things will order themselves. (Cleary 39) Rather than disturbing
the balance of nature, or being themselves disturbed by things beyond their control, they allow nature
to take on its own order and find peace in that setting. A difference in self knowledge can be
determined between the two philosophies. Confucianism teaches the idea of spending more time with
society learning everything you can so you can judge good from bad and promote virtue. Daoism
gives a different view of self knowledge. It promotes the belief that there is more to the world than can
be studied. It says that human judgements and teachings can be flawed by lack of understanding the
whole worldly picture. Instead, one should go about life with the concept of wu wei (non purposeful
action) which allows nature to show humans their ideal path . Nature does not play as big of a role in
Confucianism in development as it does for Daoism. Confucianism deals more with your learnings
from society and strive for the ideal of a gentleman or perfect man . One thing that is said to be
determined by nature is that Confucius never stated whether man was born good or evil, noting that
By nature men are similar; by practice men are wide apart (Lun Yu). Daoism has everything to do with
nature. It plays the most important role in human development and knowledge . It states that humans

Why Is The First World Series Important In History
The first World Series was extremely important in history. The series changed the game forever. The
series hosted the best team in the American league and the best team in the National league. It hosted
the Boston Americans and the Pittsburgh Pirates. The world series was a best of nine and it took place
at Huntington Avenue baseball grounds in Boston. In an big effort to end a bitter rivalry and promote
unity in baseball, National League and newly established American League decided to come together
for a new kind of season finale. Nine years earlier, the two top teams in the National League competed
in an post season championship in which Boston defeated Pittsburgh five games to three. In 1903,
both teams found themselves competing against one another in the first official World Series .
Pittsburgh s Barney Dreyfuss and Boston s Henry Killilea agreed that their ball clubs, who were both
pennant winners, should meet in a best of nine playoff series for the World Championship. Game 1 of
the series was a complete success as fans were treated to the best baseball from both leagues. The
Pirates played well on both sides of the ball as Deacon Phillippe pitched a six hit game and right
fielder Jimmy Sebring hit the first home run ever in World Series history. He drove in four runs for a 7
3 victory. Game 2 was not bad either as Boston reflected Pittsburgh s previous performance. They tied
the series up when Bill Dinneen threw a three hit game and Patsy Dougherty hammered two homers in

The Boston University Archaeology Department Essay
On May 9th, 2016, the Boston University Archaeology Department held a public outreach event
called, Eating Archaeology , where guests were served foods from four different time periods and
places: Bronze age Mycenae, Bronze age China, Pre Columbian Mesoamerica, specifically the Aztecs,
and mid 19th century Boston. The creation of these dishes was made possible through analyzing
archaeological sites through the lens of the newly popularized sub field, archaeology of the senses,
which studies how the materiality of the world contributes to and is influenced by how humans use
their senses (Hamilakis 4). Through analyzing the bodily senses, archaeologists can create a more
detailed interpretation of the experiences of ancient humans (Hamilakis i). This new interest in the
sensory aspect of human culture brings a fascination with the types of foods that people consumed in
the past. With this in mind, a group of graduate students in the fields of archaeology, food history, and
gastronomy, at Boston University, collaborated to test if material remains can be used to recreate
ancient recipes. Through eating these foods, one can glimpse a part of the culture that ate the dish,
illustrating the power of taste, and demonstrating that archaeology can be used to create something
tangible for the public. This paper will focus on the research process for the mid 19th century brothel
site, located in Boston, and how the materials gathered during excavation were used to reconstruct the

Aggregate Demand In America
Weak aggregate demand and rising costs due to still high energy and food prices put the US economy
in a tricky situation, one in which the Federal Reserve is forced to make the tough decision between
tackling the unemployment problem (jobless rates have risen to 5.7%) or the inflation problem (price
levels have also risen 5.7% this year, the highest inflation in 17 years). Rising prices and rising
joblessness are both harmful to the economy, but when energy and food prices drive up the price level,
while week investment and consumer spending lead to falling overall demand in the economy, the
conditions exist where joblessness and prices can rise simultaneously. This is America s situation at
present. In the short run, however, the decline

Comprising of some 500 tribes, their culture are linked by totemism, or affinity to an animal, plant or
cosmical phenomena, with several tribes belonging to one totem but may have varied languages
(Reidlinger, 1996). Hence, social order and relations were based on the specific social rules and laws
of the totem in which they belong. In terms of religion, the Aborigines believed that all forms of life
came from Creation Ancestors , referring to both animal and human kind, and that their spirits linger
and dwell on mountains, rocks, and whoever disrespects the land will be turned to rock. Thus, they
place reverence on the land because any damages made on it endangers the living and the sacred
spirits occupying it. This fact also explains their dependence on what nature can provide rather than
disrupting the natural course of nature. There were about 750,000 aborigines living in harmony until
the arrival of Captain Philip in 1788 in Australia on instructions of King George III, along with some

How Does Shakespeare Present The Character Of Iago
In William Shakespeare s Othello, the character Iago is presented as the villain of the play.
Shakespeare presents him as a selfish character, with jealousy and hatred, intelligent at the same time.
He has a very specific language, we realize that because he can be played in many different ways but
the language is different, especially when he speaks about Othello.
When we first see Iago interacting is through a soliloquy. We know that because Roderigo exits,
suddenly Iago starts speaking out his mind, he is constantly cent ring himself [...] Thus do I ever make
my fool my purse...For I mine own gained knowledge.. . I hate the Moor . Iago constantly repeats the
word I , he is presented as a really egocentric character.

Language Discrimination In Language
Language Discrimination Language discrimination is treating an individual unfairly due to the
features of their speech for instance, accent, vocabulary size and syntax. The growing Latino
population has been a cause or rising concern among most of the white Americans. This rapid growth
is viewed by the whites as a potential cause of the extinction of English and the way of life in
America. As a result, the whites have strived to discourage the use of Latinos heritage language which
has been discriminative (Barret 180). Despite the fact that language discrimination is being fought
against, it still exists in America. The linguistic profiling is as dangerous as racial profiling since it
denies one the opportunity to have equal chances of getting a degree, employment, a place of
residence and even healthcare because people use false general assumptions concerning a language in
order to justify the judgements concerning race, origin, religion, ethnicity and regional affiliation than
with communication and language. The two leading English dialects in Latino America that is, Puerto

The Faults Of The Power Grid
Chapter: 1 Introduction
In today s modern world is heavily dependent on continuous and reliable power supply. Many of the
industrial processes, manufacturing, production, repairing, maintenance and not to forget a whole city
is heavily dependent on this continuous supply. It is a harsh reality to live in system without problems
is next to impossible. This problems in general are called faults in the power grid language.
On daily basis many faults occur on the power grid and steps are to be taken to eliminate/remove this
faults as quick as possible. If the fault persists for long it could result in a havoc and loss of huge
amount of money, which is unacceptable.
The faults mainly occurring on a power grid includes over current, over voltage and short circuit. It is
also a harsh reality that this problems cannot be to some extent kept in mere attention of humans,
whose capability and speed to some extent are limited.
Hence a fast acting mind is required that takes care of this problem. To solve this problem PLC
(Programmable logic controller) comes into the picture. It is used to operate relays (a type of switch)
which in turn assists the CB (circuit breaker) to isolate the faulty part from the healthy one as quick as
possible. It operates as per the logic stored in the mind of the PLC by the user. The program language
used in PLC is very much simple and user friendly as compared to other previously used software i.e.
micro controller. The programs can be fed to the brain

Decolonization Of The Country Of Ghana
One of the most desirable qualities to achieve is independence. Whether it be regarding intellectual,
financial, or emotional aspects of life, striving for independence continues to be a universal concept.
For the country of Ghana, independence became a necessity, and this type of freedom could only be
obtained through a process called decolonization. Decolonization is when a country removes itself
from a location it has colonized, leaving that location independent to govern over itself. The nature of
this can be problematic, due to the extensive difficulties of creating a functional country with little
time or practice. Decolonization originated from nationalist movements throughout the late 19th and
early 20th century, and the observation of older colonies obtaining independence both inspired and
guided the country of Ghana to do the same. Understanding that the rewards of decolonization far
outweigh the problems it may bring is essential. The desire for decolonization began once countries
realized that the colonizing countries were not invincible. Weaknesses were shown during World War
II especially. Some of these weakness were the lack of attention and lack of control these colonizing
countries had. The colonized people s thirst for independence on top of this vulnerability presented a
perfect opportunity to begin independence movements. During the beginning of World War II, a
document named the Atlantic Charter was created. This document described the goals of the

A Comparative Analysis of Shakespeares Shall I Compare...
A Comparative Analysis of Shakespeares Shall I Compare Thee and Donne s The Flea In shall I
Compare Thee Shakespeare is addressing a woman, although it is not clear who, the most likely
person is his dark lady. Shakespeare addresses this woman directly in a charming way. The poem is
not said to of been set in a particular place but I believe it is more then likely to of have been set in a
garden because the things he compares the woman with are found outside. The poem is about
Shakespeare trying to explain he deep his love is for this woman. Although I would like to believe that
this poem is about platonic love it is my opinion that Shakespeare is trying to ensure a sexual
relationship with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The poems second argument is marked with a discourse marker, in this case But . The poems second
argument is why the woman is better then summer, Shakespeare says Sommers lease hath all too short
a date….but thy eternall sommer shall not fade Shakespeare is saying that summer ends and fades, but
you never will. The last two lines of Shall I Compare Thee , So long as men can see, so long lives this,
and this gives life to thee. The first thing I noticed about the final couplet is that they are indented
from the rest of the text; I believe this is to give this final couplet the feel of a conclusion. These two
lines mean that as long as people can read then this woman s beauty will live forever and that in the
poem she can never die. In The Flea the poems first argument is when Donne uses the flea to add
impact and emphasise his point that her losing her virginity is not a big deal. He says it has already
sucked from him and from her and that in this flea their blood is mingled. Donne uses this type of
sexual innuendo a lot in this poem. After Donne says this the woman tries to kill the flea. When this
happens Donne changes the direction he was going with his argument and starts to say that this flea is
a very big deal, that they have been married inside this flea and that if she kills it she will commit not
just one crime but in killing the flea she

McCloskey Article (278.205 Kb)
Having completed the unit of philosophy of religion, you are now ready to respond to an article
written by an actual atheist. This article, titled On Being an Atheist, was written by H. J. McCloskey in
1968 for the journal Question. McCloskey is an Australian philosopher who wrote a number of
atheistic works in the 1960s and 70s including the book God and Evil (Nijhoff, 1974). In this article,
McCloskey is both critical of the classical arguments for God s existence and offers the problem of
evil as a reason why one should not believe in God.
Your assignment is to read his short article, attached above, and respond to each of the questions
below. The basis for your answers should ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The uncaused cause holds to that which is outside the framework of causation. Most philosophers hold
that this first cause cannot be caused for the reason that it is outside causation. Something would need
to set forth in motion the ring of causality. If the premise stands, then such a first cause would have to
exist necessarily, otherwise it would have been caused. This necessity is one of causal relation, as long
as the premise is accepted.
As regards the cosmological argument itself, McCloskey states that all we entitled to infer is the
existence of a cause commensurate with the effect to be explained, the universe, and this does not
entitle us to postulate an all powerful, all perfect, uncaused cause. (p.63) This is indeed true, there is
no reason to necessarily infer a God person, however; the inference is of the nature that suggests
(hence the term infer) a cause of such magnitude that it is practically God like. Moreover, his words
do not disprove the rational of a God. Entitlement not to call this cause God is neither entitlement to
deny calling this cause or considering this cause to be God.
·
· 3. On the Teleological Argument: o McCloskey claims that to get the proof going, genuine
indisputable examples of design and purpose are needed. Discuss this standard of indisputability
which he calls a very conclusive objection. Is it reasonable? o From your reading in Evans, can you

Nonverbal Communication in Politics
Nonverbal Communication in Politics
The 2012 presidential election finally reached its conclusion late Tuesday night on November 6th, as
the incumbent Barack Obama won a second term in the White House over the challenger Mitt
Romney. The election, with its reputation as the most expensive presidential race in history, attracted
wide attentions not only from the United States but also from many other countries around the globe
(Confessore McGinty, 2012). The election was also noted with a numerous number of debates and
discussions in both online and offline about the two candidates policies and pledges on every level.
However, while a lot of attention was paid to the candidates verbally expressed speeches and pledges,

Physical Appearance
The first form of nonverbal communication that plays a significant role in influencing the voting
behavior is the physical appearance of candidates. The analytical study by Olivola and Todorov (2010)
states that today s politics have become so extremely intricate and incomprehensible that it is almost
impossible for voters to genuinely agree to every aspect of the candidates views. For instance, it is
highly conceivable for voters to agree on international and security issues with one candidate and
agree on economic issues with the other candidate at the same time. Hence, the number of the voters
who are unfamiliar with the intricacies of political issues and unmotivated to study candidates policy
as a criterion for making their choice has increased (Olivola Todorov, 2010). In addition, according to
Olivola and Todorov (2010), the field of cognitive psychology indicates that people s minds tend to
simplify decision making process by relying on simple rules when they are confronted with too much
information. As a result, instead of behaving as rational actors and voting reasonably as they are
believed to do so, voters are hugely influenced by and unconsciously opt for irrelevant cues, which in
this case, the candidates physical appearance.
Furthermore, Olivola and Todorov (2010) state that voters actually infer politicians personality traits
and form impressions on politicians based on their physical appearance

Hiroshima Bombing Blame
How would you feel if you designed a weapon that was responsible for the death of thousands of
individuals? In August, 1945 the United States dropped nuclear bombs on the cities of Hiroshima and
Nagasaki. It is estimated that between 106,000 to 185,000 people died and approximately 110,000
others were injured. (29 9) Atomic Energy during World War II was used to develop a powerful bomb

In 1934, after the death of President Hindenburg, Hitler took over to become Fuehrer and Reich

The heat from the blast caused fires that burned for days on end. At ground zero, the heat charred
corpses beyond recognition. The heat ceased so quickly that surfaces not in the direct line of radiation
were left unaffected. This caused visible, clearly defined shadows where objects were shielded against
the heat. Humans exposed to the heat were victims of flash burns, and had serious, third degree burns

Nothing was left of the whole thick crop, except that in place of the pumpkins there was a woman s

My Observation At The Mall Center Mall
For my observation, I decided to go the Town Center Mall in Boca Raton, Florida to observe the
advertisements that are present in our community. I went to the mall to conduct research because I
need to make a purchase for a vacation, so I thought this was the perfect place to go. Each store I
walked into, there were advertisements for instant savings, but the further I walked into any store, the
prices climbed higher. Truthfully, I was shocked by the amount of people who did not care that they
were being bamboozled. Initially, we were told at the front of the store that there were discounts, but

Mary Shelley And Emily Bronte Literary Analysis
The works of Mary Shelley and Emily Bronte have been delegated works of art for quite a long time,
and they hold a solid attach to the components of the scholarly periods that they were composed in.
What s more Frankenstein, composed by Mary Shelley, and Wuthering Heights, composed by Emily
Bronte, are both gothic fiction books. Moreover, both plots are both loaded with twists and turns
making a tension that is encased with gothic components. Shelley and Bronte both use high feelings,
extraordinary events, and climate to highlight gothic components while utilizing allegories and
striking symbolism to accomplish that.
All through their books, these two writers put an adoration story between embraced kin into their
pages. Both Shelley and Bronte utilize that sentimental affection between kin to enlighten the high
feelings that is available in all characters. In Frankenstein, Victor is enamored with his cousin /adopted

Disease Surveillance And Investigation Efforts
There are eighty communicable diseases that are required to be reported to the Department of Public
Health as part of the disease surveillance and investigation efforts. Every state has a website on what
to report, to who and time frames which it should be done. ( Reportable Diseases/Conditions in
Florida, 2014). It is everyone s duty as a medical professional to follow these rules to report to their
health department due to the possible spread of diseases. Communicable diseases can be prevented or
lessened the side effects with vaccines and education.
One common disease is the chickenpox. It is caused by the Varicella zoster virus. ( History of chicken
pox, 2013). History shows that chickenpox may have been around since Babylonian times. Anyone at
any age can get this disease. Chickenpox is contagious from one to two days before the rash appears
until all blisters have formed scabs. It spreads from person to person by direct contact or through the
air from an infected person s coughing or sneezing. It can also be transmitted from the fluid from the
blisters they cause until they are scabbed. The virus has a ten to twenty one days of an incubation
period. Chickenpox is usually diagnosed by the appearance of the rash the person has. The chickenpox
disease can start without warning or with a fever and a runny nose. Most common symptoms that
people are aware of are the red spots that appear on the upper trunk, neck, stomach, face and scalp that

The Five Principles Of Dance In The Russo-American Era
Dance is found in all cultures, it was considered a way to communicate without talking. During the
Renaissance period, ballet was considered a Russian specialty. The highly qualified and sought after
dance companies would tour the world performing in front of those who had never experienced ballet
before. By exposing ballet to the United States of America, the Russians inspired and sparked a
demand for legitimate ballet in America. It took place throughout the 20th century, currently known as
the Russo American Era. During the Russo American Era, the Russian choreographers, such as,
Michel Fokine, Anna Pavlova, Vaslav Nijinsky, Léonide Massine, and Bronislava Nijinska; they
benefited from its American audience and started to make dramatic changes to the classical ballet.
Every single one of these choreographers implemented and transformed the way people view, danced
and perceived ballet in the early 20th century. Several ideas for these innovations were from Michel
Fokine, when in 1914 wrote a letter to the London Times, stating the five principles of ballet that
befitted the 20th century ballet:
1. Each dance should use new forms of movement suitable to its subject and period.
2. Dance and mime should be used to express dramatic action.
3. Mime should be used only when the ballet s style dictates it, in other cases the dancer s whole body,
not only the hands, should be used to communicate.
4. The corps de ballet should be used for plot development and as a means of

Manic Existence Of Turtles
On the Manic Existence of Turtles
Introduction
Turtles are strange creatures.
They re not the end all of strangeness, but they are irritatingly close to that line.
They hang in the balance, so close to being outcast by animal society, yet so very far from it.
If you asked someone what their favourite sort of animal is, and they said turtles, you wouldn t scoff
or think they were strange, you would nod and it s possible that the situation would simply devolve
into an everyday conversation about ocelots, as most situations do.
However, if that person said that their favourite animal is the spiny, melted jelly bean like echidna,
you might question that person and their mental state at the time, when really, they re on par with each
other.

Softshell Turtles
Never has there been an animal that looks so much like a soggy burrito, a hotdog, and a dinosaur
engaged in a night of passion and somehow birthed a turtle.
Have you seen softshell turtles?
Usually, I like things with soft shells, and find them bearable or even pleasant to look at. (E.g., soft
shell tacos, soft shell crabs in most circumstances, soft shell coats, etc.)
Softshell turtles broke that already broad reasoning; they absolutely shattered what I thought was a
fairly open perception of what turtles really are.
What is a turtle? All signs point to the defining features of turtles as being scales, a shell, and a look
that says, I want to murder the human race, but that also implies mercy and a lack of effort towards
that cause.
Softshell turtles barely have shells, have fairly smooth skin, and look as if they re currently on a
killing spree that will halt for no man, woman, or child.
They look like the spawn of a soggy burrito, a hot dog, and a dinosaur, as previously stated; they don t
look very much like the turtles we ve all come to know and be creeped out

Identity as a Name in The Importance of Being Earnest
Wilde uses Gwendolen s and Cecily s obviously superficial affection towards each other to again
accentuate and criticize the importance that the Victorian s placed on an individual s name. The
practice of naming others as a means to display one s own dominance is satirized by the irony in the
argument between the two young ladies. The audience detects that they are undoubtedly fighting over
Ernest as well as superiority, but their true feelings are ironically hidden (rather poorly) under fake
earnestness. Garland states that, both women attempt to define the existence of their opponent through
rapidly shifting expression of Identity (272), and cause a quiet fire in the atmosphere of the scene.
Since their fight is so indirect and blatantly petty, Wilde is able to comically criticize females of
victorian society that are represented by Gwendolen and Cecily. Gwendolen and Cecily are both
fixated on the name Ernest because the superficial society surrounding them unconsciously causes
them to gravitate towards men that they believe have earnest dispositions. Gwendolen asserts her
fondness of the name Ernest declaring, my ideal has always been to love some one of the name of
Ernest. There is something in that name that inspires absolute confidence (Wilde 980). Cecily also
admires the name Ernest and makes a statement almost identical to Gwendolen s when she admits, it
had always been a girlish dream of mine to love someone whose name was Ernest. There is something

In Cold Blood, Capote makes an argument about the death penalty. In Cold Blood, written by Truman
Capote, is a seemingly objective account of the Clutter murders of Holcomb Kansas. Capote details
both the lives of the Clutters and the lives of the two men involved in their murder. In this novel
Capote argues against the death penalty using devices such as simile, metaphor, juxtaposition, and. In
the first passage of the book, Capote writes about the incident and the resulting deaths. He writes At
the time not a soul in sleeping Holcomb heard them four shotgun blasts that, all told, ended six human
lives (Capote 5). This is an example of juxtaposition because it shows the contrast of the sleeping
town and the tragedy that was occurring at the same time. Capote uses this juxtaposition, not only to
detail the nature of the crime, but also to make a subtle argument about the case. After finding out that
the Clutters have been murdered, the community is shocked and horrified. They cannot sleep at night

Absolute amounts of how much the government spends on these health related illnesses have not been calculated but the numbers are expected to be at very high amounts. Speaking of economic health costs, another way junk food negatively impacts the economy is through the way they affect the revenue of companies that provide healthy food. It is of utmost importance that people know that Financial challenges find families purchasing cost effective foods which tend not to be the healthiest products the local supermarket stock. • 7. The Effect Of Phonetic And Semantic Encoding On Correct... Abstract The current lab experiment was a partial replication of Craik and Tulving s 1975 study. The aim was to investigate the effect of phonetic and semantic encoding on correct recognition of words. The research hypothesis was semantically encoded words have a higher rate of correct recognition then words that have been phonetically encoded. This was a one tailed hypothesis, as previous research supported it. The null hypothesis was that the results will show no difference between words that are successfully recognised from the two levels of encoding, and any difference will be due to chance. The independent variable was the encoding level Phonetic or Semantic and the dependent variable was the number of correctly recognized words on a standardized recognition sheet. An independent measures design was used, with opportunity sampling to select 20 participants 10 male, 10 female who were split into phonetic and semantic groups of 10 each. The findings were that phonetic encoding had a mean of 17.2, and semantic encoding had a mean of 27.8. The Mann Whitney U test showed that the results had a significance level of 0.01. Therefore, this experiment s data can be considered 99% significant; the research hypothesis was supported and the null hypothesis was rejected. Also there was other outside forces that played a major role in their theories. Nature and art were said to have helped shape the human race as we know it. Do not be upset, do not be startled; all things will order themselves. (Cleary 39) Rather than disturbing the balance of nature, or being themselves disturbed by things beyond their control, they allow nature to take on its own order and find peace in that setting. A difference in self knowledge can be determined between the two philosophies. Confucianism teaches the idea of spending more time with society learning everything you can so you can judge good from bad and promote virtue. Daoism gives a different view of self knowledge. It promotes the belief that there is more to the world than can be studied. It says that human judgements and teachings can be flawed by lack of understanding the whole worldly picture. Instead, one should go about life with the concept of wu wei (non purposeful action) which allows nature to show humans their ideal path . Nature does not play as big of a role in Confucianism in development as it does for Daoism. Confucianism deals more with your learnings from society and strive for the ideal of a gentleman or perfect man . One thing that is said to be determined by nature is that Confucius never stated whether man was born good or evil, noting that By nature men are similar; by practice men are wide apart (Lun Yu). • 12. The Boston University Archaeology Department Essay On May 9th, 2016, the Boston University Archaeology Department held a public outreach event called, Eating Archaeology , where guests were served foods from four different time periods and places: Bronze age Mycenae, Bronze age China, Pre Columbian Mesoamerica, specifically the Aztecs, and mid 19th century Boston. The creation of these dishes was made possible through analyzing archaeological sites through the lens of the newly popularized sub field, archaeology of the senses, which studies how the materiality of the world contributes to and is influenced by how humans use their senses (Hamilakis 4). Through analyzing the bodily senses, archaeologists can create a more detailed interpretation of the experiences of ancient humans (Hamilakis i). This new interest in the sensory aspect of human culture brings a fascination with the types of foods that people consumed in the past. With this in mind, a group of graduate students in the fields of archaeology, food history, and gastronomy, at Boston University, collaborated to test if material remains can be used to recreate ancient recipes. Through eating these foods, one can glimpse a part of the culture that ate the dish, illustrating the power of taste, and demonstrating that archaeology can be used to create something tangible for the public. Rising prices and rising joblessness are both harmful to the economy, but when energy and food prices drive up the price level, while week investment and consumer spending lead to falling overall demand in the economy, the conditions exist where joblessness and prices can rise simultaneously. Comprising of some 500 tribes, their culture are linked by totemism, or affinity to an animal, plant or cosmical phenomena, with several tribes belonging to one totem but may have varied languages (Reidlinger, 1996). Hence, social order and relations were based on the specific social rules and laws of the totem in which they belong. In terms of religion, the Aborigines believed that all forms of life came from Creation Ancestors , referring to both animal and human kind, and that their spirits linger and dwell on mountains, rocks, and whoever disrespects the land will be turned to rock. Thus, they place reverence on the land because any damages made on it endangers the living and the sacred spirits occupying it. Language Discrimination In Language Language Discrimination Language discrimination is treating an individual unfairly due to the features of their speech for instance, accent, vocabulary size and syntax. The growing Latino population has been a cause or rising concern among most of the white Americans. This rapid growth is viewed by the whites as a potential cause of the extinction of English and the way of life in America. As a result, the whites have strived to discourage the use of Latinos heritage language which has been discriminative (Barret 180). Despite the fact that language discrimination is being fought against, it still exists in America. The linguistic profiling is as dangerous as racial profiling since it denies one the opportunity to have equal chances of getting a degree, employment, a place of residence and even healthcare because people use false general assumptions concerning a language in order to justify the judgements concerning race, origin, religion, ethnicity and regional affiliation than with communication and language. It is a harsh reality to live in system without problems is next to impossible. This problems in general are called faults in the power grid language. On daily basis many faults occur on the power grid and steps are to be taken to eliminate/remove this faults as quick as possible. The faults mainly occurring on a power grid includes over current, over voltage and short circuit. It is also a harsh reality that this problems cannot be to some extent kept in mere attention of humans, whose capability and speed to some extent are limited. Hence a fast acting mind is required that takes care of this problem. To solve this problem PLC (Programmable logic controller) comes into the picture. It is used to operate relays (a type of switch) which in turn assists the CB (circuit breaker) to isolate the faulty part from the healthy one as quick as possible. • 20. Decolonization Of The Country Of Ghana One of the most desirable qualities to achieve is independence. Whether it be regarding intellectual, financial, or emotional aspects of life, striving for independence continues to be a universal concept. For the country of Ghana, independence became a necessity, and this type of freedom could only be obtained through a process called decolonization. Decolonization is when a country removes itself from a location it has colonized, leaving that location independent to govern over itself. The nature of this can be problematic, due to the extensive difficulties of creating a functional country with little time or practice. Decolonization originated from nationalist movements throughout the late 19th and early 20th century, and the observation of older colonies obtaining independence both inspired and guided the country of Ghana to do the same. Understanding that the rewards of decolonization far outweigh the problems it may bring is essential. The desire for decolonization began once countries realized that the colonizing countries were not invincible. Weaknesses were shown during World War II especially. Some of these weakness were the lack of attention and lack of control these colonizing countries had. The colonized people s thirst for independence on top of this vulnerability presented a perfect opportunity to begin independence movements. During the beginning of World War II, a document named the Atlantic Charter was created. This document described the goals of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The last two lines of Shall I Compare Thee , So long as men can see, so long lives this, and this gives life to thee. In The Flea the poems first argument is when Donne uses the flea to add impact and emphasise his point that her losing her virginity is not a big deal. The uncaused cause holds to that which is outside the framework of causation. Most philosophers hold that this first cause cannot be caused for the reason that it is outside causation. Something would need to set forth in motion the ring of causality. If the premise stands, then such a first cause would have to exist necessarily, otherwise it would have been caused. This necessity is one of causal relation, as long as the premise is accepted. As regards the cosmological argument itself, McCloskey states that all we entitled to infer is the existence of a cause commensurate with the effect to be explained, the universe, and this does not entitle us to postulate an all powerful, all perfect, uncaused cause. (p.63) This is indeed true, there is no reason to necessarily infer a God person, however; the inference is of the nature that suggests (hence the term infer) a cause of such magnitude that it is practically God like. The analytical study by Olivola and Todorov (2010) states that today s politics have become so extremely intricate and incomprehensible that it is almost impossible for voters to genuinely agree to every aspect of the candidates views. For instance, it is highly conceivable for voters to agree on international and security issues with one candidate and agree on economic issues with the other candidate at the same time. Hence, the number of the voters who are unfamiliar with the intricacies of political issues and unmotivated to study candidates policy as a criterion for making their choice has increased (Olivola Todorov, 2010). During the Renaissance period, ballet was considered a Russian specialty. The highly qualified and sought after dance companies would tour the world performing in front of those who had never experienced ballet before. By exposing ballet to the United States of America, the Russians inspired and sparked a demand for legitimate ballet in America. It took place throughout the 20th century, currently known as the Russo American Era. During the Russo American Era, the Russian choreographers, such as, Michel Fokine, Anna Pavlova, Vaslav Nijinsky, Léonide Massine, and Bronislava Nijinska; they benefited from its American audience and started to make dramatic changes to the classical ballet. Every single one of these choreographers implemented and transformed the way people view, danced and perceived ballet in the early 20th century. Several ideas for these innovations were from Michel Fokine, when in 1914 wrote a letter to the London Times, stating the five principles of ballet that befitted the 20th century ballet: 1. Each dance should use new forms of movement suitable to its subject and period. 2. Dance and mime should be used to express dramatic action. 3. I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You have lots of potential, but I seriously hope this isn t the final product. And really, I think we d all sort of agree on that. Softshell Turtles Never has there been an animal that looks so much like a soggy burrito, a hotdog, and a dinosaur engaged in a night of passion and somehow birthed a turtle. Have you seen softshell turtles? Usually, I like things with soft shells, and find them bearable or even pleasant to look at. (E.g., soft shell tacos, soft shell crabs in most circumstances, soft shell coats, etc.) Softshell turtles broke that already broad reasoning; they absolutely shattered what I thought was a fairly open perception of what turtles really are. What is a turtle? All signs point to the defining features of turtles as being scales, a shell, and a look that says, I want to murder the human race, but that also implies mercy and a lack of effort towards that cause. Softshell turtles barely have shells, have fairly smooth skin, and look as if they re currently on a killing spree that will halt for no man, woman, or child. They look like the spawn of a soggy burrito, a hot dog, and a dinosaur, as previously stated; they don t look very much like the turtles we ve all come to know and be creeped out ... • 40. Identity as a Name in The Importance of Being Earnest Wilde uses Gwendolen s and Cecily s obviously superficial affection towards each other to again accentuate and criticize the importance that the Victorian s placed on an individual s name. The practice of naming others as a means to display one s own dominance is satirized by the irony in the argument between the two young ladies. The audience detects that they are undoubtedly fighting over Ernest as well as superiority, but their true feelings are ironically hidden (rather poorly) under fake earnestness. Garland states that, both women attempt to define the existence of their opponent through rapidly shifting expression of Identity (272), and cause a quiet fire in the atmosphere of the scene. Since their fight is so indirect and blatantly petty, Wilde is able to comically criticize females of victorian society that are represented by Gwendolen and Cecily. Gwendolen and Cecily are both fixated on the name Ernest because the superficial society surrounding them unconsciously causes them to gravitate towards men that they believe have earnest dispositions. Gwendolen asserts her fondness of the name Ernest declaring, my ideal has always been to love some one of the name of Ernest. There is something in that name that inspires absolute confidence (Wilde 980). Cecily also admires the name Ernest and makes a statement almost identical to Gwendolen s when she admits, it had always been a girlish dream of mine to love someone whose name was Ernest. In his novel, In Cold Blood, Capote makes an argument about the death penalty. In Cold Blood, written by Truman Capote, is a seemingly objective account of the Clutter murders of Holcomb Kansas. Capote details both the lives of the Clutters and the lives of the two men involved in their murder. In this novel Capote argues against the death penalty using devices such as simile, metaphor, juxtaposition, and. In the first passage of the book, Capote writes about the incident and the resulting deaths. He writes At the time not a soul in sleeping Holcomb heard them four shotgun blasts that, all told, ended six human lives (Capote 5). This is an example of juxtaposition because it shows the contrast of the sleeping town and the tragedy that was occurring at the same time. Capote uses this juxtaposition, not only to detail the nature of the crime, but also to make a subtle argument about the case. After finding out that the Clutters have been murdered, the community is shocked and horrified. They cannot sleep at night because of the fear that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, by comparing it to a jack o lantern, Capote paints a picture in the reader s mind of the eerie glow coming from the warehouse, and the metaphorical fire found within. This comparison shows the reader the fear that the inmates feel and makes the reader feel bad for the people waiting to die.
