Subordinates acknowledge the power of others based on their formal, hierarchical positions. Thus,
Small vs. Large Power Distance does not measure or attempt to measure a culture s objective, real
power distribution, but rather the way people perceive power differences.

Uncertainty avoidance reflects the extent to which a society accepts uncertainty and risk. It shows how
much members of a society are anxious about the unknown, and as a consequence, attempt to cope
with anxiety by minimizing uncertainty. In cultures with strong uncertainty avoidance, people prefer
explicit rules (e.g. about religion and food) and formally structured activities, and employees tend to
remain longer with their present employer. In cultures with weak uncertainty avoidance, people prefer
implicit or flexible rules or guidelines and informal activities. Employees tend to change employers
more frequently.
ï‚·
Individualism vs. collectivism individualism is contrasted with collectivism, and refers to the extent to
which people are expected to stand up for themselves, or alternatively act predominantly as a member
of the group or organization. It also shows how much members of the culture define themselves apart
from their group memberships. In individualist cultures, people are expected to develop and display
their individual personalities and to choose their own affiliations. In collectivist cultures, people are
defined and act mostly as a member of a long term group, such as the

Explain How Mcdonald And KFC
Overview
The objective of the report is to convey the information gathered about strategies and plans used by
Mcdonald s and Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC). This report starts out with a brief introduction
allocated to each of the company. Initially, we begin by explaining the planning strategies used by
Mcdonald s and KFC and then compare the plans against each other. After that, we briefly explained
the importance of planning for both the companies. Following that, we explained and compared the
leadership behaviour of both company s CEO and the types of power he uses to influence others and
the organisational results. We then described the 5 Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs for both the
companies and suggested how the CEO can further motivate his people. Lastly, we defined the
managerial roles played by the CEOs and did a final comparison based on these ... Show more content

Participative style is where the leader and the subordinates shares their views and opinions in decision
making process. This can be seen in Roger Eaton where he provides group of interactive sessions and
open conversations. This is to enhance open communication and give employees the opportunity to
express concerns and their ideas.
Comparison:
Steve Easterbrook, CEO of Mcdonald s, adopts the selling style. Steve believes in managing the
people in his company by using both directive and supportive behaviour. He displays his supportive
behaviour towards his employees by motivating them to further increase their self confidence level. In
addition to this, he also shows directive behaviour by paying attention to his employees and make sure
they carry out tasks correctly and under supervision.
Roger Eaton on the other hand adopts a participative style. He entrusts tasks to his employees and
involves them in decision making process for KFC and encourages them to delegate other employees
to get things done instead of him supervising everyone all the

Social Media s Role In Presidential Campaigns
Social media websites have been gaining popularity and record amounts of users since the early
2000s, but in recent years social media has started to have an important role in presidential campaigns.
Barack Obama, president of the United States from 2009 to 2017, is regarded as the first social media
president and since his time in office, the use of social media has only continued to expand. The use of
websites such as Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube have become key components in the election of the
president and their time in office. This importance can particularly be seen by examining the most
recent presidential election in 2016. The 2016 campaign season, election, and subsequent presidency
of Republican candidate, Donald Trump, are largely considered to be unlike any other in the history of
America. Unlike campaigns in the past, every detail of the 2016 process was shared online. Not only

defined by Hunt Allcott and Matthew Gentzkow as news articles that are intentionally and verifiably
false, and could mislead readers. Facebook, in particular, had a significant issue with the spread of
fake news reports and articles during the 2016 election. An increasing number of residents in the
United States are creating social media accounts and turning to these websites for quick access to
political knowledge and social media companies are struggling to slow the spread of fake news.

Second Language Acquisition ( Sla ) Theory
Theoretical Framework
The literature review of this research study is based on second language acquisition (SLA) theory. In
this section I address a number of studies that have been conducted on vocabulary acquisition and
share results of studies that are related to the topic. This is the framework I use for establishing the
importance of the study and a benchmark of comparing results with other findings.
Literature Review
Vocabulary Acquisition History
Since the early 1980s, research on second language vocabulary has taken a prominent role in the field
of second language acquisition (SLA). Previously, learning a language was heavily based on learning
grammar rules, which learners have to follow and understand in order to use correct grammatical
sentences. As a result, that has led to a neglect of learning vocabulary as there was an assumption that
vocabulary can be learned through communication and can take care of itself (Meara, 1980;
Maiguaschca, 1993).
A number of researchers (e.g., Carter McCarthy, 1988; McCarthy, 1990; Nation, 2010; Nation Laufer
2012; Schmitt, 2010) argue that vocabulary acquisition is the basic foundation of language learning
because words are the building blocks of communication and without them, learners will not be able
to express themselves and communicate by using a target language. This has led to the emergence of a
growing body of research intended to discover and describe second language (L2) learners strategies
for learning a target

Paul Cezanne
In Paul Cezanne s Mont Sainte Victoire, the artist uses a Japanese influence to paint a light filled
panoramic landscape, and harmonized patches of bright colors to convey his post impressionist view
of the parallel to nature that the mountain represented to him. In the foreground, is a tree which is on
the left side of the painting. This tree gives the viewer the feel of the Japanese influence with its sharp
contours and compressed space. The tree s branches are encased in pine needles which appear to be
woven into the sky. The tree s trunk and branches give depth and perspective to the painting, as well
as draws the eye to the mountain in the background. The contour lines outline the mountain top and

Cezanne applied his paint in thick layers with broad, discrete, and methodical brushstrokes, remaining
true to the architectural ideal that every portion of the canvas must contribute to the structural integrity
of the painting. With each brushstroke, Cezanne was constructing a picture as apposed to painting it
(Paul Cézanne Biography). In contrast, Monet used a single color, applying it, using a bold, flat and
evenly loaded brush. This technique is called tache, a French word for blot. This technique moved
paintings away from the blending of colors on the canvas, and led to the application of different colors
to represent the ripples across water and how the light falls on the subject, as seen in Monet s painting
On the Bank of the Seine ( Brushwork ). Alternatively, Thomas Cole came from the Hudson River
School where he learned to render crisply defined forms in paint. He avoided painterly flourishes that
called attention to his techniques. He used a thin wooden board which rested on the artist s arm to mix
his paints ( Hudson river, Pallet ). Cole would sketch the scene and then return to the studio to paint

Argumentative Essay On First Amendment Rights
Part I Intro: An age is called Dark not because the light fails to shine, but because people refuse to see
it. (James A. Michener, Space) I am here today arguing a denied, avoided, and controversial topic
[Christian Persecution]; and, I am doing this so that I can make the increasing amount of attacks on
our first amendment rights known. The injustice here is not only the attacks on Christians rights to
religious freedom, but also because it is ignored. The rights of everyone are compromised because no
matter what religion you identify with or even one at all, there is a precedent being set that denying
someone s right is okay. 1,400 documented attacks on religious freedom, at a 15% increase over the
past year and a 133% increase over the past five years. Part II Introduce arguments: This is an
injustice for three main reasons: Number 1: Our first amendment right is being violated. Number 2:
People are penalized for their beliefs. Number 3: People are unable to practice their religions freely.
Part III Reason 1: This is an injustice because our first amendment right is being violated. The first
amendment states that, Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or
prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of
the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
Ironically, the majority of Americans identify as Christians,

The Microsociology Of Violence By Randall Collins
The microsociology of violence is an attempt by Randall Collins to create an overall theory of
violence. He does by focusing on the situational context of the violent interactions, and how emotions
work to inhibit or support violence. As a theory, it has emerged from the field of microsociology, an
approach which seeks to explore human interactions on a face to face level. Collins own approach
combines Émile Durkheim s theory of ritual and group level interaction with the dramaturgical and
context relevant conception of human interaction advanced by Erving Goffman. Collins argues that all
human interaction on the face to face level is a ritual. It is the situational dynamics of this ritual where
he places his attention. He argues that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Importantly, they argue that the sometimes vague and overly metaphorical notions found in Randall
Collins theory of microsociology are bolstered by the integration of polyvagal theory. Similarly,
Mazur incorporates biosocial, hormone based mechanisms into microsociology of violence theory,
both validating and reinforcing the Collins findings. The tendency for bodies to produce a micro
alignment also means that individuals feel tension when they are at a cross purpose in an interaction.
This tension places a significant emotional burden on an individual and can diminish their physical
ability harm another. Collins calls this confrontational tension/fear (ct/f). By default, ct/f inhibits
violence. In arguing this, Collins draws upon a variety of phenomenological and observation accounts
of violence. These include Katz research into experiences of crime, Grossman s description of combat
stresses and the emotional difficulty of killing another in the context of military combat, Klinger s
work with police who have used lethal force, S.L.A. Marshall s controversial and contested survey of
American soldiers in the Pacific Theatre of World War 2, and Collins own observations of a wide
variety of violent encounters. Individuals involved in violent situations may experience a range of
symptoms which Collins argues are the

Why Is Emma Goldman Essay
Not many are strong enough to speak out. People like us usually aren t brave enough to argue towards
something, even though they strongly believe in it. Despite that, there is a woman, a fearless speaker,
who spoke up until her death to make the world a better place. Born on June 27th, 1869, Emma
Goldman is the leading figure of American feminism and an influential anarchist in history. From a
young age, she experienced poverty or noticed much violence towards women. This led to her
standing out as an anarchist she is known today. All her life was about conflicting with poverty,
freedom of speech, birth control, violence, women s rights, and government s military preparations.

In the 19th century, freedom of speech in America was still a dream. She was upset with the fact that
in America, a country which guaranteed free speech, officers armed with long clubs should invade an
orderly assembly . However, because of her passion towards her beliefs, Goldman faced threats from
the police to stop her talks. Nevertheless, Goldman never stopped expressing her thoughts in front of
the public. Eventually, she spent ten months in jail. Later on, after the assassination of President
McKinley, more people started to oppose or speak out. The government s actions towards trying to
suppress Goldman conversely led to many people supporting her right to freedom of speech. It was
after this when she started to constantly give speeches about this topic. Her speeches inspired Roger
Baldwin, a founder of the American Civil Liberties Union. Baldwin heard her speak in a lecture she
held and wrote in a letter, You always remain one of the chief inspirations of my life, for you aroused
in me a sense of what freedom really means . In 1903, Goldman joined the Free Speech League in

Big Breakthroughs Happen When What Is Still
Big breakthroughs happen when what is suddenly possible meets what is desperately needed.
Thomas L. Freidman
Introduction
The world as it is today would have been incomprehensible two or three decades ago. Over the last
few years a number of technological advances have made innumerable things suddenly possible and
what is surprising is that the readiness with which these things have been accepted implies that they
have been desperately needed! For example, in today s world, we can sit on our beds at home and
purchase items from two different corners of the world and expect the goods to reach us in a relatively
short period of time; we could also at the same moment using the same means invest our funds in
news ventures. This would have been hard to even dream about three decades ago. But, today, a small
glitch in this system would be considered unacceptable. Globalisation has empowered the exchange of
ideas and knowledge across the globe, aided the movement of people around the world in a manner
which on thinking about even today is quite mindboggling. Thomas Friedman in his book The World
is Flat has tried to analyse the triggers behind globalisation and has succeeded in doing this to a very
large extent. He has explained how ten events between 1989 and 2004 have contributed so largely to
the world as it is today. Friedman labelled these events as Flatteners . According to him, these events
made the world a flat place in the sense that people of different countries

Native American Ethical Issues
The handling of human remains and sacred sites of prehistoric people still remains as a hunge
controversial subject in the field of Anthropology. Archaeology are bounded by all kinds of laws and
regulations, guidelines are strictly followed by archaeologists to ensure a legal, ethical, and
professional conduct of archaeological research. Complex ethical issues arise when an archaeologist
tries to excavate a prehistoric site. Archaeologists must be careful when handling Native American
remains as they might violate laws if they mishandle the human remains. All these laws existed to
protect the basic human rights for the Native Americans. In this paper, perspectives from both Native
Americans and archaeological researchers would be discussed. ... Show more content on

Archaeologists can t just possess any Native American material on their own for research purposes
without the consultation of the Native American tribes. To the Native Americans, the past is connected
to present. Rebecca Tsosie, a law professor from the Arizona State University mentioned that The past
is very real to contemporary Indian people ans is preserved in oral histories and ongoing ceremonial
practices and beliefs. (66). The native people feel that they re obligated to take care of their past, they
have to honor their ancestors no matter how long ago they have passed away. They believe that they
should have the right to stop any behaviors that might desecrate their ancestors. It is very
understandable that one might not appreciate someone digging up their grandparents and perform
research without permission. Especially to people who practices a religion, this action may be
interpreted as the archaeologists trying to disturb the spirits of their ancestors. Not only the remains
and objects are important to the Natives, but also their land. Land was considered to be a gift given
from the Creator. Just like the ancestral remains the descendants are responsible for their sacred land.
It is believed that The land is complete with sacred teachings, marked by tribal history, and places of
interrelations to the powerful beings of the nature spirit world. (Champagne). The Native Americans
do not have the need to know the truth, all they care is to ensure spiritual peace to their ancestors and
to pass on the legacy of their own

Violent Crime And Property Crime
Abstract
In this paper it is going to discuss violent crime and property crime. It will be discussing the different
types of violent crimes and property crimes that exist. The differences between the two crimes and
there impact on the United States. The statistics of violent crime compared to property crime in the
year 2012. There are many things that may surprise you when it comes to the crime rate in 2012
compared to 2011 and before then.
Violent crime vs. Property crime I am going to begin by discussing the violent crime. There are 4 main
classes of violent crime. These classes consist of: Murder and Negligient Homicide, Forcible Rape,
Robbery and Aggravated Assault. These crimes are usually defined as offenses that include force or
the threat of force. The violent crimes are listed under the FBI s Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR)
program. There are other crimes which classify as violent crimes, these include: Burglary, Larceny
theft and Motor Vehicle theft. The FBI uses a system to classify crimes from the worst crime, Murder
and Negligient Homicide, being at the top of the list, and the least serious crime, Motor Vehicle theft,
being at the bottom of the list. One crime which is listed on both violent crimes and property crimes is
Arson, depending on the circumstances surrounding the offense at the time.
Murder and Negligient Homicide: The FBI classifies Murder and negligient homoicide as: when a
person is willfully killed by another. There

Medtronic s Ratings Earning Power I would rank Medtronic s earning power at a 9 on a scale of 1
(very weak) to 10 (very strong). Medtronic has successfully demonstrated their ability to grow and
provide substantial return to their owners. Medtronic s net earnings have steadily increased from
$984.0 million in 2002, to $1599.8 million in 2003, to $1959.3 million in 2004. Their total assets have
increased 13.7% from $12,405.5 million in 2003 to $14,110.8 million in 2004. These measures show
that Medtronic has been successful in generating profits and increasing their net assets. These
measures have steadily been increasing and therefore this type of progress can reasonably be expected
to persist in the future. Total liabilities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This account only made up 8% of the current liabilities for this year. These two facts show that the
accounts payable does not seem to be a significant form of financing. The company is not relying
heavily upon accounts receivable and is probably not having a difficult time generating cash to pay to
suppliers. One last measure used to determine the ranking provided for Medtronic s solvency was the
debt/equity ratio. Using this ratio, we see that the average total liabilities only make up 56% of the
total Stockholder s equity. This shows that the company s debt is bout half of the company s total book
value. All of these measures are consistent with the idea that Medtronic is able to produce cash to meet
debts as they come due. If the current and quick ratio proved that the company was carrying a large
percentage of current assets as compared to current liabilities, and if the debt didn t make up a
majority of the stockholder s equity, the ranking would have been higher. Earning Quality and
Persistence When ranking Medtronic s earning quality and persistence I would give the company a
ranking of 8 on a scale of 1 to 10. Net operating income is considered to be made up of usual and
frequent activities and is therefore considered to be persistent. This has steadily increased over the past
three years and can reasonably be expected to continue in the future. In 2002, the amount was $1590.2

Mozart Effect Field Research
Many parents have come to believe that music, especially classical music played during pregnancy or
in the nursery of their newborns would make their precious bundle of joy smarter. Is there science to
prove that this is true, or is it just a quick way to sale books, cd, and videos . The Mozart Effect drove

The Mozart Effect interested parents because they believed it was simple way for them to increase
their child s IQ. Entrepreneurs were motivated by easy profits because of the book called Mozart
Effect written by Don Campbell. There is very little merit that proves that listening to Mozarts music
increases the IQ of children. Using the name Mozart Effect as a trademark in infomercials for his
book, discs and cassettes was a way to get the news out to mainstream America. Mr. Campbell gained
a lot of fame and fortune through speaking engagement, cd, tape sells and promotion by the media.
The media created the illusion that listening to Mozart s music will somehow increase spatial
intelligence, concentration and memory and enhance right brain creativity activity. These were some
of the promises that were used to promote the sale of Mozart Effect CDs.
This information leads me to believe that the Mozart s Effect is not at all what it claimed to be. It is
true that all styles of music activates the auditory cortex (this is the area of the brain that processes
sound) and often times triggers parts of the brain that are connected to our emotions. There are other
studies that have found there is no statistically significant Mozart Effect . It is disappointing that the
media and commercial ventures have used unverified studies to promote the sale of a product to the
public. All of the false claims stating that Mozart s music increases one s intelligence

Taking a Look at Interpersonal Attraction
Interpersonal attraction embodies feelings of love, like, dislike, hate, lust and admiration. It refers to
positive and negative feelings towards one another. Since most people desire relationships of some
form, be it platonic friendship or romance, these are common essentials, which make interpersonal
attraction a major topic within social psychology. Since it is such an important topic, this essay will
discuss what attraction is and what determines it. Social traits are important aspects in attraction and
according to Hume (1757), attraction is biased since it is in the eye of the beholder . However,
researchers have defined attraction objectively through a variety of social factors and theories and
answered the question what draws us into these relationships ? What makes another person attractive ?
Researchers have identified five factors that are important in determining whether we are likely to find
another person attractive. These factors are physical attractiveness, proximity, pheromones, mutual
attraction or liking, similarity or complementarity of interest and beliefs.
I chose this topic because of my current relationship. I am the kind of girl who likes to go into
relationships with friends I have known for a long time but all of that suddenly changed when I met
my boyfriend. I have to admit, he is very attractive. Everybody that has seen him knows that he is very
attractive but that was not what drew me to him so the question is why did I like him ? We met at

Differences in the Development of New England and the Chesapeake Region
Question: Although New England and the Chesapeake region were both settled largely by people of
English origin, by 1700 the regions had evolved into two distinct societies. Why did this difference in
development occur?
By the 1700s the two regions, New England and Chesapeake varied greatly in spite of being from the
same mother country, England. Physical and cultural differences separated these two regions
distinctively. While religion moulded the daily life in New England, Money and tobacco farming
dominated the Chesapeake.

Religious uniformity was very important as they were intolerant of any other religion, and only church
members were part of the government at first. Citizens were required to attend Church services as part
of the law. Most of the people in New England had been merchants or small farmers in England. In
New England however, the rocky soil made it hard for a lot of farming, so the Puritans turned to the
coast. They built up major industries such as shipbuilding and fishing, and established trade routes
with England, and the Caribbean. The New Englanders were a very pious and hardworking people,
very different from their southern neighbours.
The Chesapeake region was the first region to be colonized. The first settlers had a very hard time
adapting to the moist swampy climate and lack of commerce and civility that they were used to in

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, About one in three U.S. kids are
overweight or obese . This shows that unhealthy lunches can lead to obesity because the food they are
getting for lunch has too many calories. So if the students eat healthy the number of students
overweight will go down. If kids eat unhealthy, they are most likely obese and that can lead to health
problems, including heart disease. According to the text, In 2009, a group of former military leaders
called obesity a threat to our national security. They said that 27 percent of 17 to 24 year olds can t

Summary Of Neil Degrasse Tyson
Based on the title of this episode, I expected it to talk about the depths of the ocean, but I was wrong.
Instead the episode began by discussing condensation and evaporation and the sun s effect on each one
of these mechanisms. Neil Degrasse Tyson then dived deep into a water trap to further express the
contents of the drop, and the water bears appeared once again, their small but rigid tolerance allows
them to survive almost everywhere. The episode then began to discuss the structure of a plant at a
molecular level and Photosynthesis. There was one thing that I found very interesting in this episode
and that was then sectioned that talked about Charles Darwin s prediction about the orchid s nectar. He
believed that everything as created for a reason, if the Orchid had nectar at the end of their narrow

Application Of New Learnings
Phase 3: Application of New Learnings. In Six Ways to Build Trust in Negotiations, Molhotra
preaches the significance of one s reputation. When I had first negotiated with Sam during the Toronto
Condo Activity , my friend Arfeen had told him about how I m a nice person to negotiate with. I did
not think much of that comment then, but when I found out that I would be negotiating with Sam for
the second time during the Summer Interns Activity , I knew that I could use my reputation, and thus,
personal credibility to benefit. In The Necessary Art of Persuasion, Conger claims that one should
always frame their position to find common ground. Providing evidence in the form of data and past
experiences, even the use of personal credibility can be highly beneficial when it comes to persuading
the other party. Having done my readings before the class, I was fortunate enough to be prepared in
advance of my negotiation with Sam. As we had already developed a casual friendship, and I found it
very easy to talk to him. It is important to note that he was unaware of the turning point ; all he knew
was that I was an easy person to negotiate with. My credibility came from our previous interaction
where I acknowledged his interests and was willing to cooperate. Before the negotiation even started,
we both agreed to do the negotiation activity quickly. This helped me articulate my points of interests

Birth Right citizenship is a legal right to citizenship for all children born in a country s territory,
regardless of parentage. But many people use the term to indicate the general or specific roles, rights

These are the ones whom obtain birthright citizenship . The second are firm believers in the only ones
that should be citizens are the ones who go through the proper process of becoming a citizen and
according to the article in USA today, it states that illegal immigrants are having babies as a way to
obtain citizenship, which too many Americans cheapens the whole idea of being American . The last
group is the other the ones whom are completely neutral or believe in the beliefs of the first or second
group but not down to the word. Possible if they believe the child should get birthrights but not the
parents, only the child and mother should get them, or if they believe that they should get them but
still have to work through the proper process to receive them to their full extent. The great majority of
people live in cities. This is no chance occurrence. Even long before our present age of giant cities,
even before ancient Rome, people tended to live in concentration, in whatever size of community their
environment allowed. Probably the human desire to live in close company is instinctive. We look upon
hermits as unfortunate; we readily agree that friendship doubles joy and divides grief. The issue, then,
is what is the best we can do together? For example, whether we are ideally clustered in small cities,
or in fewer very large ones. And does our density affect not only resource consumption, but our

Ronald Dworkin s Theory And How His Theory Essay
Introduction;
This essay is compiled to review and apply Ronald Dworkin (Dworkin) theory and how his theory
was incorporated to assist in constructing laws. In light of Dworkin s theory, significant areas such as
moral principles, legal principles, rights and rules will be explore to understand the influence that
these attributes had, in essence of creating laws.
In order to understand these attributes and their abilities to be incorporated into laws, Dworkin s
theory first must be explored and understood, to know how this was possible.
What is Dworkin s theory;
The basis of Dworkin s theory revolves around the notion that laws do not only comprise of rules, but
need to incorporate principles. This is due to rules needing to be used in an all or nothing fashion.
Whereas the use of principles enables an extra dimension of weight, giving rise to different avenues
that rules would not be able to. Dworkin, was one of the only theorists who rejected the notion of the
rule of recognition, as it was a very narrow concept. For Dworkin, he suggested the use of the
Hercules model, which is more applicable in comparison.
Dworkin suggested that the law was imbued with specific attributes of morality. This was also known
as the laws integrity. Dworkin s aim was to explain how it was people s duties to obey the laws, which
is a moral duty, and the states hold the monopoly of the power to enforce the laws, rests on the laws
integrity. However, for this the effectively work,

Industrial Revolutions
Historically, industrial revolutions have caused the most notable changes in work. The First Industrial
Revolution, driven by steam, and the Second Industrial Revolution, driven by electricity, led to an
increase in technology, production, and jobs especially among women, as illustrated by the photo of
Rosie the Riveter, depicting a woman in the workforce urging other women to engage in employment
(Human Development Report; Miller). While there had been fears of future unemployment due to the
rapid rise in machines performing the tasks of people, in 1962, President John F. Kennedy quelled

Example Of Knowledge Argument
INTRODUCTION OF THE THESIS According to Currie (2015), philosophy is the activity of
searching for a reflective understanding of ourselves and also to know about the natural and social
worlds we live in. As we know, philosophy is also related to the phrase thinking about thinking. We
can get to know what is actually happening in this world and we also will solve some of the
confusions that we face in life. Knowledge is the fact and information of knowing something that
through some experiences. In addition, argument is the process of arguing or disagreeing about a
statement that has discussed. For example, we might argue about the statement that we have the
opposite view from the others so we start to make up some proves to solve this matter. In this
assignment, we will discuss about the knowledge argument. From a thesis that we have read, we could
identify its position stated by Frank Jackson.
Knowledge argument stands against physicalism which is proposed by Frank Jackson. Physicalism or
materialism is distinguished with phenomenal consciousness of experiences that depicts mind is
subjective and implies physicality.

Greek Influence On Roman Society
Thanks to our course, it teaches me something I didn t know before. This week, what I learnt was
ancient Greek actually forged Roman society and its past glories. Apart from their historical
connections, it turned out Greek was an inspiration for Roman s outstanding achievements, to an
extent, if the proverb all roads lead to Rome presents this city state s central position in Antiquity, I
will think Roman s success owed its origin to Greek, to say the least. In my opinion, Greece was the
true begetter of Roman empire s economic and political miracles.
Although the two are both Mediterranean countries, but Greece had a major influence on the
development of Roman arts, governmental system, literature, and many more. In a way, Romans
internalized a set of Greek values which they ingeniously conflated Greek traditional charm with
Roman local idioms, then continuously built on that solid foundation and made some exciting
breakthroughs thereafter.
In addition, as Noreen Gunnell (2012) indicated, ancient Romans loved all things Greek. In the
highest form of flattery, the Romans copied Greek architecture, sculpture, and mythology...the Roman
god and myths are the Greek gods and myths...the Romans were enamored by all things Greek... To

The s Equine And Aquatic Therapy Services
Bethany s Equine and Aquatic Therapy Services, Incorporated, more widely known as BEATS, Inc., is
a treatment facility that utilizes both hippotherapy and aquatic therapy for children with a variety of
disabilities (BEATS, n.d.). Aquatic therapy employs the use of water as a means to treat various
conditions by aiding in reducing chronic pain and enabling a wider range of motion (Oeverman, n.d.).
Hippotherapy is a lesser known method of treating mental, physical, and sensory disabilities by using
horses. When ridden, the movements of the horses spine and hips mimic the movements of walking or
running for those who cannot. Even when stationary, the horses consistent breathing stimulates the
muscles of the individual riding that cannot be as readily stimulated with the use of any other
mechanism (B. Nugent, personal communication, February 25, 2016). This unique form of therapy
enables individuals to work on balance and strength. Above all, hippotherapy is incredibly beneficial
in enhancing the motivation of disabled clients. Because the children are used to clinical settings, they
do not realize that the session is a part of their treatment; instead, they are simply having fun. As the
occupational therapist walks close by, often times engaging the child with the use of props,
photographs, or games, they are still able to work with the child in the areas of need (Applegate,
2011). BEATS incorporates these two methods as a way of engaging disabled children and efficiently

St Thomas Aquinas Unbelievers Essay
Both in the times of St. Thomas Aquinas and in our times, there are many other religions. To avoid an
everlasting war many chose to tolerate those of the different religions. The Catholic Church teaches
that it is the true Church and that salvation cannot be found outside of the Catholic Church
(Catechism). When St. Thomas Aquinas speaks of unbelievers he speaks of those who are not
Catholic. Unbelievers are very different from heretics. While the Church tends to treat unbelievers the
same as they have for many years, it no longer treats heretics in the way they once did. In this paper I

Belief must be of one s own will and through the conversion process converts find and struggle with
their will, they then accept their will, and they have the word of Christ within them once they are able
to receive the sacraments.
Aquinas explains how we must have unbelievers in our world for religion to work and continue to
grow. Catholics are all called to evangelize, and this helps others get to know God and his wonderous
deeds. God in a sense asks us to evangelize by allowing certain evils:
But God, although all powerful and supremely good, nonetheless allows some evils to take place in
the universe, evils that he could prevent, lest greater goods be lost if evils were removed, or lest
rightly tolerate certain evils let certain goods be prevented, or even worse evils incurred (Aquinas
193).
Evangelization is a useful tool in compelling others towards Christ. When we evangelize through
working we express how much our beliefs rely on both prayer and work. James 2:14 says, What does
it profit, my brethren, if a man says he has faith but has not works ? This passage from the Bible
shows us again that we are meant to go out and live our faith and evangelize through our deeds. God
allows different evils so that he can allow for these different goods, some of these goods can be
achieved through evangelization. Moments of working through our deeds

Imperialism Spread Of China And The Opium War
When imperialism spread to China: Events leading to the Opium War
Have you ever wondered what it would be like if an event in history ceased to happen or the effect of

recently came across some historical text about China. During the time of imperialism, a major shift
had happened in China that caused an entire dynasty to fall. The collapse caused a half century long
recovery period and a change in world trade. This event was the Opium War.
The Opium War in China occurred in two time spans, 1839 1842 and 1856 1860, however, I am just

Would the country have collapsed on itself? Throughout history Britain consistently continued taking
over and or imperializing multiple countries to then rely on them for survival and wealth. Could this
have been a possible future for China? Today the United States is China s major agricultural source.
Yet, if this event had not transpired would China still be able to produce its own food? Would China
today even exist or would it have been consumed by another superior country?
During the reign of Qing Emperor Daoguang (1820 1850), foreign trade was only allowed in the
commercial port of Canton. Due to the foreign trade policy, for Britain to obtain Chinese goods they
would have to purchase them with silver. Silver was China s currency at that time. The English
speaking merchants were not allowed to learn Chinese and were to be harshly punished if they left the
port to enter China. This frustrated the British East India Company. They had very few restrictions
from foreign ports and companies. The reasoning behind this was they had already seized control of
them. This gave Great Britain a massive advantage: A monopoly system of the seas. A stem of related
problems began to emerge for Britain. They did not have their own supply of silver and would
purchase it from Mexico so it could be used to purchase large quantities of Chinese Tea. Tea and sugar
made a marvelous mildly addicting drug food... (qtd. Dunn) Years went by of accelerated

The Effects of Physical and Verbal Abuse on Children
One of the rising issues among children in our society today is the verbal and physical abuse they are
receiving from their parents and guardians. This is creating unhealthy families and dysfunctional

psychological and emotional detachment abusive children have to endure.
These affects occur when they have a history of being neglected or physically abused. A

Which keeps them from ever achieving their intellectual potential. Another psychological concern is
the physical stress. If the child is continually exposed to multiple violent and trauma acts, they will be
physically stressed out. When the child experiences this act over and over again, there are permanent
psychological changes. A child having over reactions to things that remind them of the original event
can create difficulty in concentration and attention. There are emotional effects such as isolation and
inability to trust other peers. This essentially can translate into low self esteem and depression. In one
long term study, as many as 80 percent of young adults who had been abused met the diagnostic
criteria for at least one psychiatric disorder at age 21. These young adults exhibited many problems,
including depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and suicide attempts ( Silverman, Reinherz Giaconia,
1996). NSCAW found that children who were placed out of home care due to abuse or neglect were
scored lower on measures of cognitive capacity, language development, and academic achievement. In
other words, they experienced difficulties with their academics being neglected or abused by parents
or relatives. Other factors related to child abuse is shyness. More abused children will tend to shy
away from meeting new people. This creates antisocial traits as they grow up. Raised under these
conditions leads

Use Your Own Language Analysis
Society today is quick to judge and state what is wrong and what is acceptable by the public. While
some differences between Spelling Matters and Use Your Own Words are obvious, the similarities are
relevant. Anne Trubek says that perhaps it is time to change or alter grammar rules to match the
current generation and culture. We should advance our guidelines about what is proper and improper
along with what is happening right now with the language. While Mikita Brottman says, bad spelling
can be a godsend a way of weeding out those who are thoughtless and inattentive to detail (p. 219).
Nonetheless, to observe that something is a mess and conclude that we should remove all limits and
let it get even messier is absurd. Yes, English spelling is hard to learn. English spelling is a terrible
mess (p. 221) says Anne Trubek. Modern technology does not help either. Computers, smartphones,
and tablets are speeding the adoption ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With modern technologies, the way we write and read is changing rapidly, and with such changes so
must spelling. Both authors make valid points, but at the same time have different views. Both, Mikita
Brottman and Anne Trubek are passionate about spelling and grammar. Brottman says that spelling
counts, grammar counts, and consistency counts in résumés. Mikita Brottman states that everyone
especially those applying for a job should know how to properly spell the name of their field of
expertise. Trubek says that as long as the message gets understood, spelling is not necessarily as
important as the meaning behind the message. No, autocorrect and spellcheckers are wrongheaded
because they reinforce a traditional spelling standard. Consistent spelling was a great way to ensure
clarity in the print era. But with new technologies, the way that we write and read (and search and data
mine) is changing, and so must spelling. (p.

The Internal And External Factors Of An Organization
Introduction The purpose of this paper is to analyze the culture, the internal, and the external factors in
an organization. Our job is to examine the entirety of the organization. That would include the
structural and environmental elements that effect the operation of the business. We will also take an in
depth look at the perspectives of employees, managers, owners, and clientele. The Organization Just
Chillin Snowball and Sweet Treat Shop is a locally owned mom and pop business. The owner Jeffery
Robertson and his wife, Corey, opened this business in November 2012. Since then, it has become a
staple of the Northshore area in Mandeville. Just Chillin has grown over the past four years, in both
popularity and in size, so much that they are now in the process of opening another location. Just
Chillin is an excellent company to observe and analyze the culture and the internal and external
factors that have made this company so successful over these past few years. Cultural Analysis What
is an organizational culture? Just Chillin Snowball and Sweet Treat Shop has a strong organizational
culture which has allowed the business to prosper in the community. A strong organizational culture is
one where the employees possess shared values, principles, traditions, and ways of doing things that
influence the way organizational members act and assist to distinguish the organization from other
organizations (Mary Coutler, Stephen P. Robbins, 51). Our observations have shown, that

Harrison Photography
The photographs at Harrison photography gallery, I found out that they are both different and similar
from what I ve learned within the text book History of Photography . I think they re the same as from
the book because of coloring, mainly in black and white. The difference between these photographs in
Harrison s gallery and from the text book are the sizes of the photos, clothing on portraits and prints.
Each individual photograph has its own size and printing process.
Which photographers are familiar, which are new?
Within the gallery, I was able to spot a photograph taken by Alfred Stieglitz that was familiar to me as
we read a chapter on him that I found very intriguing. Aside from his photograph, his camera work
book was also laid ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think viewers such as myself appreciate the idea of letting our imagination go wild and make our
own interpretation of what the photograph is or might be and develop our own side story to that
photograph. Although most photographers titled their photographs, it s a lot more fun to be creative as
was she/he when they took that photo and thought of its name.
What does the imagery say about the photographer?
I think that the photographs that the photographers took really tells a lot about him/herself. There were
pictures such as flowers, kids, waterfalls and forest. To me, that tells me that he/she must be a very
calming and soft hearted person. There were also photographs of people, parks and athletes (Mn Twin
baseball) which also tells me that this photographer was a social person who enjoy sports, a good walk
in the park and socializing with people.
What do the photographs say about the area and the era in which these photographs were created?
Photographs taken in the older days from 1990 s were a lot colorless, blind and lacks facial
expression. Which is understandable because photography was invented shortly before that time frame
compare to now where most photographs are in color, are bigger in size and has different printing

Essay about Zoot Suit
Zoot Suit, a play written by Luis Valdez, depicts the racially charged trial of the Sleepy Lagoon Case
of 1942 in which the courts charged a group of Pachucos with the murder of another Mexican
American. During the 1940s, many Mexican Americans suffered widespread discrimination as
dramatized in Zoot Suit. To combat such discrimination many Chicano youth wore stylized zoot suits,
adorned with oversized jackets during fabric shortages as a form of social and political rebellion. Zoot
Suiters felt disempowered by their position within society and used their fashion to send out a
message and as a means to regain their masculinity. The Pachucos were accused with the murder of a
fellow Mexican American not because of clear evidence or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

El Pachuco realizes that the 38th Street gang does not look up to standards, look at your gang, they do
look like mobsters (Valdez). El Pachuco is clearly indignant towards the way in which the court
mistreats the Zoot Suiters as seen by the way he stands angrily behind the gang and recognizes the
intolerance of the court and judge. Restricting the Zoot Suitors from adjusting their appearances puts
them at a disadvantage; instead of looking upright individuals, they are dirty urbanites. Similarly, El
Pachuco intervenes again when the court asks that the suspects rise when their names were called in
court. Both El Pachuco and the people s lawyer are infuriated by this proposal. Subjecting them to this
treatment is not only self incriminating, but also groups the Zoot Suiters together and stereotypes
them, rather than allowing each of them their own unique identity. When this is proposed El Pachuco
says, ready for the verdict now ese? and begins to play the piano as the suspects stand and seat
themselves. El Pachuco is sarcastic and attempts to make a mockery of the courtroom, having the Zoot
Suiters discriminated against and degraded (Valdez). El Pachuco s actions during this moment creates
a farce out of the courtroom and highlights yet another way in which the Zoot Suiters were poorly
treated. Although the Sleepy Lagoon Case was

Olive Compare And Contrast
I watched the Olive, the Other Reindeer film adaptation and I noticed some differences between the
movie and the storybook. I chose to compare the scene where Olive is wrapping Christmas presents
and hears All of the other reindeer on the radio. In the book, the scene shows Olive wrapping
Christmas presents and listening to Christmas music. She hears Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
play, and listens to the lyric All of the other reindeer, but she thinks that it is saying Olive, the other
reindeer, meaning that she is a reindeer. Hearing this makes her think that she is a reindeer and needs
to report to duty to help Santa Claus. However, in the movie, the scene shows Olive wrapping
Christmas presents and listening to the radio with her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Santa says maybe somehow we ll make due with all of the other reindeer. Fido hears Santa say this,
but he thinks that Santa says Olive, the other reindeer, indicating that Olive is the other reindeer that
will help him. Olive believes Fido and decides to trek to The North Pole to save Christmas. The
difference between the two is that in the book, Olive hears all of the reindeer and thinks they are
referring to her, and in the movie Olive s friend, Fido, hears all of the other reindeer and thinks Santa
is referring to her. Another difference between the two is that the book does not have Fido in it. I think
the only reason for this is because with a movie, the writer is able to incorporate a lot more detail into
the storyline because the movie is longer. Along with differences, I also found similarities between the
movie and the book. Both the pictures for the movie and for the book are created by J. Otto Seibold,
indicating that the movie is also created with animated characters. In both the film and the book, Olive
is drawn as a cute Jack Russell Terrier with lots of colorful surroundings near her, such as Santa s
workshop and his

The Theory Of Sexual Orientation
Chapter 9 looks at sexuality and how it is perceived around the world. It analyzes how each unique
culture recognizes homosexuality, heterosexuality, and bisexuality as a whole. It uses this information
to formulate facts, opinions, and ideas in regard to all three of these concepts.
This chapter considers gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation. All three of these
definitions have to do with how we classify ourselves, not how society classifies us. Thus, we should
have the freedom to decide what makes us happy, we should not have to conform to societies beliefs.
There are five different theories of sexual orientation that are examined and discussed in this chapter. I
think it is important to consider each theory and understand why they were created. The first being the
structural functionalist perspective focuses on having safe heterosexual relationships without cheating
to ensure safe child rearing and a regular family dynamic for the child to grow up in (300). The second
being the conflict perspective focuses on the power difference between the straight individuals and all
the members of the LGBT community. The straight individuals are seen as more powerful because
they are the norm meaning that are the dominant group. The LGBT community is the community with
the least amount of power, especially in 1973 when being gay was considered a mental illness or
mental disorder (301). The third being the symbolic interactionist perspective which focuses

Subordinates acknowledge the power of others based on their formal, hierarchical positions. Thus, Small vs. Large Power Distance does not measure or attempt to measure a culture s objective, real power distribution, but rather the way people perceive power differences. ï‚· Uncertainty avoidance reflects the extent to which a society accepts uncertainty and risk. It shows how much members of a society are anxious about the unknown, and as a consequence, attempt to cope with anxiety by minimizing uncertainty. In cultures with strong uncertainty avoidance, people prefer explicit rules (e.g. about religion and food) and formally structured activities, and employees tend to remain longer with their present employer. In cultures with weak uncertainty avoidance, people prefer implicit or flexible rules or guidelines and informal activities. Employees tend to change employers more frequently. ï‚· Individualism vs. collectivism individualism is contrasted with collectivism, and refers to the extent to which people are expected to stand up for themselves, or alternatively act predominantly as a member of the group or organization. This report starts out with a brief introduction allocated to each of the company. Initially, we begin by explaining the planning strategies used by Mcdonald s and KFC and then compare the plans against each other. After that, we briefly explained the importance of planning for both the companies. Following that, we explained and compared the leadership behaviour of both company s CEO and the types of power he uses to influence others and the organisational results. We then described the 5 Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs for both the companies and suggested how the CEO can further motivate his people. • 5. Social Media s Role In Presidential Campaigns Social media websites have been gaining popularity and record amounts of users since the early 2000s, but in recent years social media has started to have an important role in presidential campaigns. Barack Obama, president of the United States from 2009 to 2017, is regarded as the first social media president and since his time in office, the use of social media has only continued to expand. The use of websites such as Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube have become key components in the election of the president and their time in office. This importance can particularly be seen by examining the most recent presidential election in 2016. The 2016 campaign season, election, and subsequent presidency of Republican candidate, Donald Trump, are largely considered to be unlike any other in the history of America. Unlike campaigns in the past, every detail of the 2016 process was shared online. Not only did the public use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Facebook, in particular, had a significant issue with the spread of fake news reports and articles during the 2016 election. An increasing number of residents in the United States are creating social media accounts and turning to these websites for quick access to political knowledge and social media companies are struggling to slow the spread of fake news. • 6. Second Language Acquisition ( Sla ) Theory Theoretical Framework The literature review of this research study is based on second language acquisition (SLA) theory. In this section I address a number of studies that have been conducted on vocabulary acquisition and share results of studies that are related to the topic. This is the framework I use for establishing the importance of the study and a benchmark of comparing results with other findings. Literature Review Vocabulary Acquisition History Since the early 1980s, research on second language vocabulary has taken a prominent role in the field of second language acquisition (SLA). Previously, learning a language was heavily based on learning grammar rules, which learners have to follow and understand in order to use correct grammatical sentences. As a result, that has led to a neglect of learning vocabulary as there was an assumption that vocabulary can be learned through communication and can take care of itself (Meara, 1980; Maiguaschca, 1993). A number of researchers (e.g., Carter McCarthy, 1988; McCarthy, 1990; Nation, 2010; Nation Laufer 2012; Schmitt, 2010) argue that vocabulary acquisition is the basic foundation of language learning because words are the building blocks of communication and without them, learners will not be able to express themselves and communicate by using a target language. This has led to the emergence of a growing body of research intended to discover and describe second language (L2) learners strategies for learning a target ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Paul Cezanne In Paul Cezanne s Mont Sainte Victoire, the artist uses a Japanese influence to paint a light filled panoramic landscape, and harmonized patches of bright colors to convey his post impressionist view of the parallel to nature that the mountain represented to him. In the foreground, is a tree which is on the left side of the painting. This tree gives the viewer the feel of the Japanese influence with its sharp contours and compressed space. The tree s branches are encased in pine needles which appear to be woven into the sky. The tree s trunk and branches give depth and perspective to the painting, as well as draws the eye to the mountain in the background. Cezanne applied his paint in thick layers with broad, discrete, and methodical brushstrokes, remaining true to the architectural ideal that every portion of the canvas must contribute to the structural integrity of the painting. With each brushstroke, Cezanne was constructing a picture as apposed to painting it (Paul Cézanne Biography). In contrast, Monet used a single color, applying it, using a bold, flat and evenly loaded brush. This technique is called tache, a French word for blot. This technique moved paintings away from the blending of colors on the canvas, and led to the application of different colors to represent the ripples across water and how the light falls on the subject, as seen in Monet s painting On the Bank of the Seine ( Brushwork ). Alternatively, Thomas Cole came from the Hudson River School where he learned to render crisply defined forms in paint. He avoided painterly flourishes that called attention to his techniques. He used a thin wooden board which rested on the artist s arm to mix his paints ( Hudson river, Pallet ). Cole would sketch the scene and then return to the studio to paint the ... Michener, Space) I am here today arguing a denied, avoided, and controversial topic [Christian Persecution]; and, I am doing this so that I can make the increasing amount of attacks on our first amendment rights known. The injustice here is not only the attacks on Christians rights to religious freedom, but also because it is ignored. The rights of everyone are compromised because no matter what religion you identify with or even one at all, there is a precedent being set that denying someone s right is okay. 1,400 documented attacks on religious freedom, at a 15% increase over the past year and a 133% increase over the past five years. Number 3: People are unable to practice their religions freely. Part III Reason 1: This is an injustice because our first amendment right is being violated. The first amendment states that, Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. • 9. The Microsociology Of Violence By Randall Collins The microsociology of violence is an attempt by Randall Collins to create an overall theory of violence. He does by focusing on the situational context of the violent interactions, and how emotions work to inhibit or support violence. As a theory, it has emerged from the field of microsociology, an approach which seeks to explore human interactions on a face to face level. Collins own approach combines Émile Durkheim s theory of ritual and group level interaction with the dramaturgical and context relevant conception of human interaction advanced by Erving Goffman. Collins argues that all human interaction on the face to face level is a ritual. It is the situational dynamics of this ritual where he places his attention. He argues that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Importantly, they argue that the sometimes vague and overly metaphorical notions found in Randall Collins theory of microsociology are bolstered by the integration of polyvagal theory. Similarly, Mazur incorporates biosocial, hormone based mechanisms into microsociology of violence theory, both validating and reinforcing the Collins findings. The tendency for bodies to produce a micro alignment also means that individuals feel tension when they are at a cross purpose in an interaction. This tension places a significant emotional burden on an individual and can diminish their physical ability harm another. Collins calls this confrontational tension/fear (ct/f). By default, ct/f inhibits violence. In arguing this, Collins draws upon a variety of phenomenological and observation accounts of violence. These include Katz research into experiences of crime, Grossman s description of combat stresses and the emotional difficulty of killing another in the context of military combat, Klinger s work with police who have used lethal force, S.L.A. Marshall s controversial and contested survey of American soldiers in the Pacific Theatre of World War 2, and Collins own observations of a wide variety of violent encounters. Born on June 27th, 1869, Emma Goldman is the leading figure of American feminism and an influential anarchist in history. From a young age, she experienced poverty or noticed much violence towards women. This led to her standing out as an anarchist she is known today. The government s actions towards trying to suppress Goldman conversely led to many people supporting her right to freedom of speech. It was after this when she started to constantly give speeches about this topic. Her speeches inspired Roger Baldwin, a founder of the American Civil Liberties Union. • 16. Big Breakthroughs Happen When What Is Still Big breakthroughs happen when what is suddenly possible meets what is desperately needed. Thomas L. Freidman Introduction The world as it is today would have been incomprehensible two or three decades ago. Over the last few years a number of technological advances have made innumerable things suddenly possible and what is surprising is that the readiness with which these things have been accepted implies that they have been desperately needed! For example, in today s world, we can sit on our beds at home and purchase items from two different corners of the world and expect the goods to reach us in a relatively short period of time; we could also at the same moment using the same means invest our funds in news ventures. This would have been hard to even dream about three decades ago. But, today, a small glitch in this system would be considered unacceptable. Globalisation has empowered the exchange of ideas and knowledge across the globe, aided the movement of people around the world in a manner which on thinking about even today is quite mindboggling. Thomas Friedman in his book The World is Flat has tried to analyse the triggers behind globalisation and has succeeded in doing this to a very large extent. He has explained how ten events between 1989 and 2004 have contributed so largely to the world as it is today. Friedman labelled these events as Flatteners . According to him, these events made the world a flat place in the sense that people of different countries ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To the Native Americans, the past is connected to present. Rebecca Tsosie, a law professor from the Arizona State University mentioned that The past is very real to contemporary Indian people ans is preserved in oral histories and ongoing ceremonial practices and beliefs. (66). The native people feel that they re obligated to take care of their past, they have to honor their ancestors no matter how long ago they have passed away. They believe that they should have the right to stop any behaviors that might desecrate their ancestors. It is very understandable that one might not appreciate someone digging up their grandparents and perform research without permission. Especially to people who practices a religion, this action may be interpreted as the archaeologists trying to disturb the spirits of their ancestors. Not only the remains and objects are important to the Natives, but also their land. Land was considered to be a gift given from the Creator. Just like the ancestral remains the descendants are responsible for their sacred land. It is believed that The land is complete with sacred teachings, marked by tribal history, and places of interrelations to the powerful beings of the nature spirit world. (Champagne). The statistics of violent crime compared to property crime in the year 2012. There are many things that may surprise you when it comes to the crime rate in 2012 compared to 2011 and before then. Violent crime vs. Property crime I am going to begin by discussing the violent crime. There are 4 main classes of violent crime. These classes consist of: Murder and Negligient Homicide, Forcible Rape, Robbery and Aggravated Assault. These crimes are usually defined as offenses that include force or the threat of force. The violent crimes are listed under the FBI s Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) program. There are other crimes which classify as violent crimes, these include: Burglary, Larceny theft and Motor Vehicle theft. The FBI uses a system to classify crimes from the worst crime, Murder and Negligient Homicide, being at the top of the list, and the least serious crime, Motor Vehicle theft, being at the bottom of the list. One crime which is listed on both violent crimes and property crimes is Arson, depending on the circumstances surrounding the offense at the time. All of these measures are consistent with the idea that Medtronic is able to produce cash to meet debts as they come due. If the current and quick ratio proved that the company was carrying a large percentage of current assets as compared to current liabilities, and if the debt didn t make up a majority of the stockholder s equity, the ranking would have been higher. Earning Quality and Persistence When ranking Medtronic s earning quality and persistence I would give the company a ranking of 8 on a scale of 1 to 10. Net operating income is considered to be made up of usual and frequent activities and is therefore considered to be persistent. This has steadily increased over the past three years and can reasonably be expected to continue in the future. In 2002, the amount was $1590.2 million, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Is there science to prove that this is true, or is it just a quick way to sale books, cd, and videos . The Mozart Effect interested parents because they believed it was simple way for them to increase their child s IQ. Entrepreneurs were motivated by easy profits because of the book called Mozart Effect written by Don Campbell. There is very little merit that proves that listening to Mozarts music increases the IQ of children. Using the name Mozart Effect as a trademark in infomercials for his book, discs and cassettes was a way to get the news out to mainstream America. Mr. Campbell gained a lot of fame and fortune through speaking engagement, cd, tape sells and promotion by the media. The media created the illusion that listening to Mozart s music will somehow increase spatial intelligence, concentration and memory and enhance right brain creativity activity. These were some of the promises that were used to promote the sale of Mozart Effect CDs. This information leads me to believe that the Mozart s Effect is not at all what it claimed to be. It is true that all styles of music activates the auditory cortex (this is the area of the brain that processes sound) and often times triggers parts of the brain that are connected to our emotions. There are other studies that have found there is no statistically significant Mozart Effect . It is disappointing that the media and commercial ventures have used unverified studies to promote the sale of a product to the public. It refers to positive and negative feelings towards one another. Since most people desire relationships of some form, be it platonic friendship or romance, these are common essentials, which make interpersonal attraction a major topic within social psychology. Since it is such an important topic, this essay will discuss what attraction is and what determines it. Social traits are important aspects in attraction and according to Hume (1757), attraction is biased since it is in the eye of the beholder . However, researchers have defined attraction objectively through a variety of social factors and theories and answered the question what draws us into these relationships ? What makes another person attractive ? Researchers have identified five factors that are important in determining whether we are likely to find another person attractive. These factors are physical attractiveness, proximity, pheromones, mutual attraction or liking, similarity or complementarity of interest and beliefs. I chose this topic because of my current relationship. I am the kind of girl who likes to go into relationships with friends I have known for a long time but all of that suddenly changed when I met my boyfriend. I have to admit, he is very attractive. To avoid an everlasting war many chose to tolerate those of the different religions. The Catholic Church teaches that it is the true Church and that salvation cannot be found outside of the Catholic Church (Catechism). When St. Thomas Aquinas speaks of unbelievers he speaks of those who are not Catholic. Unbelievers are very different from heretics. While the Church tends to treat unbelievers the same as they have for many years, it no longer treats heretics in the way they once did. In this paper I will discuss and analyze the thinking of St. Thomas Aquinas about unbelievers and heretics and I will reflect upon and compare how those views fit into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Belief must be of one s own will and through the conversion process converts find and struggle with their will, they then accept their will, and they have the word of Christ within them once they are able to receive the sacraments. Aquinas explains how we must have unbelievers in our world for religion to work and continue to grow. Catholics are all called to evangelize, and this helps others get to know God and his wonderous deeds. God in a sense asks us to evangelize by allowing certain evils: But God, although all powerful and supremely good, nonetheless allows some evils to take place in the universe, evils that he could prevent, lest greater goods be lost if evils were removed, or lest rightly tolerate certain evils let certain goods be prevented, or even worse evils incurred (Aquinas 193). Evangelization is a useful tool in compelling others towards Christ. When we evangelize through working we express how much our beliefs rely on both prayer and work. James 2:14 says, What does it profit, my brethren, if a man says he has faith but has not works ? This passage from the Bible shows us again that we are meant to go out and live our faith and evangelize through our deeds. God allows different evils so that he can allow for these different goods, some of these goods can be achieved through evangelization. Moments of working through our deeds ... • 42. Imperialism Spread Of China And The Opium War When imperialism spread to China: Events leading to the Opium War Have you ever wondered what it would be like if an event in history ceased to happen or the effect of a slight change in the past and if it would drastically change the future? Like the butterfly affect? I recently came across some historical text about China. During the time of imperialism, a major shift had happened in China that caused an entire dynasty to fall. The collapse caused a half century long recovery period and a change in world trade. This event was the Opium War. The Opium War in China occurred in two time spans, 1839 1842 and 1856 1860, however, I am just going to discuss the first one. During the 19th century, global trade had spiked interest in many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Would the country have collapsed on itself? Throughout history Britain consistently continued taking over and or imperializing multiple countries to then rely on them for survival and wealth. Could this have been a possible future for China? Today the United States is China s major agricultural source. Yet, if this event had not transpired would China still be able to produce its own food? Would China today even exist or would it have been consumed by another superior country? During the reign of Qing Emperor Daoguang (1820 1850), foreign trade was only allowed in the commercial port of Canton. Due to the foreign trade policy, for Britain to obtain Chinese goods they would have to purchase them with silver. Silver was China s currency at that time. The English speaking merchants were not allowed to learn Chinese and were to be harshly punished if they left the port to enter China. This frustrated the British East India Company. They had very few restrictions from foreign ports and companies. The reasoning behind this was they had already seized control of them. This gave Great Britain a massive advantage: A monopoly system of the seas. A stem of related problems began to emerge for Britain. They did not have their own supply of silver and would purchase it from Mexico so it could be used to purchase large quantities of Chinese Tea. • 43. The Effects of Physical and Verbal Abuse on Children One of the rising issues among children in our society today is the verbal and physical abuse they are receiving from their parents and guardians. This is creating unhealthy families and dysfunctional environments where children are the victims of these abusive homes. Another cause of concern is the psychological and emotional detachment abusive children have to endure. These affects occur when they have a history of being neglected or physically abused. A UNICEF on child wellbeing reported that the United States and the United Kingdom are ranked lowest among industrial nations with respect to child well being. They also found that it s more common for child abuse to occur in single parent families than in families where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Which keeps them from ever achieving their intellectual potential. Another psychological concern is the physical stress. If the child is continually exposed to multiple violent and trauma acts, they will be physically stressed out. When the child experiences this act over and over again, there are permanent psychological changes. A child having over reactions to things that remind them of the original event can create difficulty in concentration and attention. There are emotional effects such as isolation and inability to trust other peers. This essentially can translate into low self esteem and depression. In one long term study, as many as 80 percent of young adults who had been abused met the diagnostic criteria for at least one psychiatric disorder at age 21. These young adults exhibited many problems, including depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and suicide attempts ( Silverman, Reinherz Giaconia, 1996). NSCAW found that children who were placed out of home care due to abuse or neglect were scored lower on measures of cognitive capacity, language development, and academic achievement. In other words, they experienced difficulties with their academics being neglected or abused by parents or relatives. Other factors related to child abuse is shyness. More abused children will tend to shy away from meeting new people. This creates antisocial traits as they grow up. Raised under these conditions leads ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While some differences between Spelling Matters and Use Your Own Words are obvious, the similarities are relevant. Anne Trubek says that perhaps it is time to change or alter grammar rules to match the current generation and culture. We should advance our guidelines about what is proper and improper along with what is happening right now with the language. While Mikita Brottman says, bad spelling can be a godsend a way of weeding out those who are thoughtless and inattentive to detail (p. 219). Nonetheless, to observe that something is a mess and conclude that we should remove all limits and let it get even messier is absurd. Yes, English spelling is hard to learn. Brottman says that spelling counts, grammar counts, and consistency counts in résumés. Mikita Brottman states that everyone especially those applying for a job should know how to properly spell the name of their field of expertise. Trubek says that as long as the message gets understood, spelling is not necessarily as important as the meaning behind the message. No, autocorrect and spellcheckers are wrongheaded because they reinforce a traditional spelling standard. Consistent spelling was a great way to ensure clarity in the print era. • 51. Essay about Zoot Suit Zoot Suit, a play written by Luis Valdez, depicts the racially charged trial of the Sleepy Lagoon Case of 1942 in which the courts charged a group of Pachucos with the murder of another Mexican American. During the 1940s, many Mexican Americans suffered widespread discrimination as dramatized in Zoot Suit. To combat such discrimination many Chicano youth wore stylized zoot suits, adorned with oversized jackets during fabric shortages as a form of social and political rebellion. Zoot Suiters felt disempowered by their position within society and used their fashion to send out a message and as a means to regain their masculinity. El Pachuco is clearly indignant towards the way in which the court mistreats the Zoot Suiters as seen by the way he stands angrily behind the gang and recognizes the intolerance of the court and judge. Restricting the Zoot Suitors from adjusting their appearances puts them at a disadvantage; instead of looking upright individuals, they are dirty urbanites. Similarly, El Pachuco intervenes again when the court asks that the suspects rise when their names were called in court. Both El Pachuco and the people s lawyer are infuriated by this proposal. Subjecting them to this treatment is not only self incriminating, but also groups the Zoot Suiters together and stereotypes them, rather than allowing each of them their own unique identity. When this is proposed El Pachuco says, ready for the verdict now ese? and begins to play the piano as the suspects stand and seat themselves. El Pachuco is sarcastic and attempts to make a mockery of the courtroom, having the Zoot Suiters discriminated against and degraded (Valdez). The difference between the two is that in the book, Olive hears all of the reindeer and thinks they are referring to her, and in the movie Olive s friend, Fido, hears all of the other reindeer and thinks Santa is referring to her. Another difference between the two is that the book does not have Fido in it. • 53. The Theory Of Sexual Orientation Chapter 9 looks at sexuality and how it is perceived around the world. It analyzes how each unique culture recognizes homosexuality, heterosexuality, and bisexuality as a whole. It uses this information to formulate facts, opinions, and ideas in regard to all three of these concepts. This chapter considers gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation. All three of these definitions have to do with how we classify ourselves, not how society classifies us. Thus, we should have the freedom to decide what makes us happy, we should not have to conform to societies beliefs. There are five different theories of sexual orientation that are examined and discussed in this chapter. I think it is important to consider each theory and understand why they were created. The first being the structural functionalist perspective focuses on having safe heterosexual relationships without cheating to ensure safe child rearing and a regular family dynamic for the child to grow up in (300). The second being the conflict perspective focuses on the power difference between the straight individuals and all the members of the LGBT community. The straight individuals are seen as more powerful because they are the norm meaning that are the dominant group. The LGBT community is the community with the least amount of power, especially in 1973 when being gay was considered a mental illness or mental disorder (301).
