# 39 ; S Use Of The Allegory In Dante s Inferno
The Italian poet, Dante Alighieri, takes the audience on a journey through the stories of hell,
purgatory, and heaven in Dante s Inferno. Starting in hell, Dante tells the story of his journey and his
experiences, under the guidance of the classical Roman poet Virgil, as he travels through the nine
circles of hell to reach heaven. Through his very detailed descriptions of punishments, settings and
characters, the poem serves an allegorical purpose by showing one man s desperate journey from
confusion and depression to salvation. An allegory is a story with both a literal and symbolic meaning.
Dante uses an allegory in Canto I and he describes his internal struggle through the dark forest which
represents his mid life crisis.

He often has great fun tormenting sinners, while being surrounded by flames. People often picture him
as attractive, a proud rebel, one who has refused to spend his life serving God, and many have
identified with him. Even those who have portrayed him in a way that emphasizes his evil nature have
portrayed him as powerful and dangerous. But nobody pictures Satan the same way Dante does. Dante
depicts Satan as almost completely passive. Dante shows Satan being stuck in the ice in the depths of
Hell, and his only actions are to flap his wings, and thus freeze the ice in which he s stuck, to gnaw on
the sinners in his three mouths, and to weep tears and blood. Dante describes Satan as huge, and at
first Dante cannot help but be terrified of him, but his size is the only reminder of his stature when he
was Lucifer and the fairest angel in Heaven. Dante depicts him as horribly ugly with his three faces of
different colors. His former beauty was of course given to him by his Creator, so the mention of that
beauty makes it appalling that he could have rebelled against God, who made him out of nothing and
made him so beautiful. And Dante sees that he should not fear him, since he has no real power. He
cannot even stop Dante and Virgil from escaping from Hell by climbing down his body to the center
of the earth and then turning around and climbing up. The last sight Dante and Virgil

Unteaching The Five Paragraph Essay By Marie Foley Analysis
Unteaching The Five Paragraph essay by Marie Foley is a light hearted but argumentive piece
focusing on the way most school aged children are taught to write. Foley s main point comes down to
the very first words in the essay; The five paragraph formula confuses and alienates students and
undermines our most basic goals as writing instructors. Foley believes that by teaching children to
write in a formulated manner we are not letting them explore and learn through their own writing. We
are instead giving them the freedom to discontinue the thought process once they feel that the essay
they have produced meets the formula standards they have been kept to, and refuse to part with. Marie
Foley then brings up a critique by William Coles on

Donzoko High Socioeconomic Perspective
Oppression is a prologue of unjust and cruel control. It is closely associated with low socioeconomic
statuses making the desire to escape it very scarce. In Donzoko, by Akira Kurosawa and The Lower
Depths, by Maxim Gorky, characters are presented with low socioeconomic statuses. The absurdity
and cruelness of having a low socioeconomic status is displayed as well as the characters persistent
fight to escape it. The Lower Depths, by Maxim Gorky and the cinematic adaptation, Donzoko, by
Akira Kurosawa portray the inescapable oppressed socioeconomic status of characters, however, the
mean ways in which this is displayed vary as Gorky relies on dramatic conventions and Kurosawa
relies on cinematic conventions. In Donzoko, Akira Kurosawa utilizes the cinematic convention of
varying camera angles as it exemplifies the inescapable oppression and socioeconomic statuses by
expressing a multitude of perspectives. Throughout the movie, a reoccurring angle was shot from
below. The low angles intend for the audience to feel a sense of entrapment since only little sky and
high walls are seen in the background. In one scene Sutekichi whom is given a low socioeconomic
status walks outside. As a result of the low angle, the character is viewed from below and the audience
perceive a sense of entrapment. This sensation is justified by the seldom appearances of sky and
frequency of walls which expresses the impossibility of escaping this status. Additionally, the low
angle provides the

The Discovery Of The Space Station
Someday, somehow, Clarke knew that she would witness the beauty of Earth. She would be able to
feel the sun warm her skin, and have the wind kiss her cheeks as she walked through a forest. Maybe
she would watch a rabbit hop out of a bush, or follow butterflies as she wandered carelessly around
the ground if those creatures were still alive from all the radiation. Her father had always told her
stories about Earth, visualizing it as a heaven for the living. It had been nearly ninety seven years
since the last humans touched the Earth s surface, and only a couple hundred thousand had survived
long enough to make it to the Ark the space station where the last human beings have been living in
since the nuclear bombings. Had the humans not been at conflict with one another, then maybe they
would still be inhabitants of Earth. But war brought distrust, and distrust in the other countries led to
nuclear warfare. While watching the old documentaries of the last surviving humans retelling their
stories of Earth, Clarke realized how different the Ark was, and how she would never live to her fullest
until she was on the ground. The Ark was always cold, and empty, and the oxygen she breathed felt, if
she could describe it in a word, fake. Surely, Clarke had never before breathed oxygen from the
ground, but its as almost as if her mind knew the oxygen she breathed wasn t right. As she sat against
the stone wall of her small cell, she stared at her drawings of Earth. With only a

The Road Fire Case Study
Paul and his mother, Mrs. Fisher, drove to their new home in Tangerine, from Texas, hoping to leave
all their memories behind. Shortly after arriving, conflict stirs up. A so called fire begins. Paul and his
mother quickly got nervous and called the fire department. The fire truck came over to their home, 20
minutes late, casually cruising up the street. Once they begin talking, the firefighter explains that it s a
unstoppable muck fire. Mr. Costello, the president of the homeowners association came to the Fisher
home to help explain the muck fires a little bit more in depth. Mr. Costello decided to bring his son
along, Mike, who would be holding footballs for Erik to kick this season. The next afternoon, Mrs.

weeks and the carnival the night before, he entered school as if everything was okay. The tables
quickly turned and he was sent to the office along with the group of boys that he went to the carnival
with. Mrs. Gates explained that the Police Department had alerted Lake Windsor of vandalism of a
carnival exhibit by a team of soccer players. Paul spoke up and explained that he had seen a team walk
into the exhibit, and walk out. Mrs. Gates and all the rest of the teachers recognised the school that the
boys attended and thanked Paul for his honesty. That same day, another misfortune occurred. A
sinkhole swallowed up multiple portables, teachers, and children. Strangely, Paul s father was affected
more from the sinkhole more than Paul was, even thought Paul was on the scene. Mr. Fisher received
a great deal of phone calls from angry parents. A meeting was held soon after, Mrs. Gates delivered
the news that students could either run a split shift at the middle school or relocate for the rest of the
term to Tangerine Middle School. Paul was thrilled with these words! Now he had a chance to start

Summary Of Lord Of The Flies
Kevin Luu AP Lit B3 Ms.Anders Summer Novel Reading Questions 1.Golding,William. Lord of the
Flies. Faber and Faber,1954 2.The title Lord of the Flies is referring to Beelzebub which is another
name for the devil. This title is fitting for the story because typically flies surround something that is
filthy or dirty, and in the story the boys on the island progressively become more dirty as the story
progresses which reflects the innate evil that is in all of them. 3.The boys who are marooned on the
island isolated from the rest of society split into two distinct groups, those who are civilized attempting
to form a makeshift living space and those who give into their more primal instincts and form a hunter
tribe. 4.Ralph is twelve years ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
7a. Ralph wept for the end of innocence, the darkness of man s heart, and the fall through the air of a
true, wise friend called Piggy. When all of the boys are first marooned on the island they are initially
all innocent and fairly civil as opposed to towards the end once they are rescued from the island by the
navy after they have grown savage as the result of all their hardships also leading to them losing their
innocence B.This ending is fitting because now that Ralph has witnessed the evil within everyone s
hearts his perception of man is forever changed even as he is being rescued from the island. What he
has seen on that island will remain with him for the rest of his life. As time had come to pass,so had a
sunrise, however there was no light, for all that was left was the darkness of man s heart 8.This novel is
based upon the workings of the heart because it describes a story where a group of innocent twelve
year old boys from England who couldn t do any harm back home split into two distinct groups on the
island, which were those who attempted to maintain an order and the others who followed their more
primal instincts such as bloodlust and violence. As time goes on Ralph and Jack become even more
cemented in their separate roles as the keeper of order and the feral hunter of the island. 9.I believe I

1. What are middle range theories? Why are they considered to be useful in conducting nursing
research? Give at least three examples of middle range theories; discuss what these theories are all
about and how these theories are useful in nursing practice and research. Middle range theory is a
presence of related concepts that are fixed on a limited scope of the reality of nursing. These theories
are made up of ideas and recommended connection among the ideas that can be related in a model.

fully dependent on one source, but rather use a variety of resources to help students understand

Eye Reflection Paper
On June 11, 2012 at almost 10 pm, I slipped while running in flip flops trying to reach my boyfriend
before his Jeep pulled out of the driveway. As I fell, my ankle bent back snapping, making a loud
crack, and causing my leg to be trapped underneath my back. Crying out in pain, I managed to flip
myself face down in the wet grass, relieving the pressure on my leg. I screamed for help for what felt
like hours before someone inside the house realized I was hurt. My friend s whole family came
outside to try to help, while someone called my boyfriend to come back and take me to the hospital.
With the help of 3 people, I managed to stand up and my way to hop to the Jeep as my broken ankle
flopped back and forth. Upon arriving at the hospital, I was rushed to the X ray room to access the
damage that had been done. I remember the comment the technician made to my boyfriend after I was
sent to a room to wait, We still need to take her for a CT scan to know the full extent of the damage,
but from the looks of the X ray s, there is no way those bones are going back together without surgery.
The ankle is shattered. Those words were burned into my head as I was taken for a CT scan and then

injected me full of drugs to help with the immense pain. The doctor came in to tell me that I had a

Also according to the British Herbal Pharmacopoeia, a respected guide to alternative medicine,
nutmeg has been proven to improve such conditions as rheumatism, nausea, diarrhoea and has other
therapeutic applications. This is evident in the medicated spray Nutmed produced locally in Grenada,
whose main ingredients include none other than the nutmeg. This spray is used to relieve joint pains,
muscle pains and other aches associated with arthritis.
Now for the side of nutmeg of which I m sure most of you were not aware. Did you know that nutmeg
can be considered a drug due to the effects it has on the human mind? Nutmeg contains the
psychoactive ingredient myristicin, which belongs to the deliriant drug family. Due to the presence of
this ingredient, a tablespoon of fresh ground nutmeg can indeed get you high! But warning, this is not

Essay On School Lunch Program
Over 100,000 schools have adopted the National School Lunch Program since its launch in 1946 by
then president Harry Truman. It was orgininally designed to provide low cost, healthy lunches at a
reduced cost and was relatively effective. Lately however, since first lady Michelle Obama fueled a
massive overhaul of the program shortly after her husband took office stripping the meals of so called
unhealthy content and started to require the School Lunch act to meet minimum nutritional standards...
This federal program has become too much about controlling what students eat vs. its content and it
needs to be changed. Ever since first lady Obama rolled out the new guidelines in 2010, there has been
a severe backlash from not just students, but from parents and lawmakers alike. For the past few years,
the program has been stripping food of its appeal, flavor, and quantity for a healthier option to curve
obesity. This has caused the amount of food that growing students, who need anywhere from 2,000 to
3,200 calories a day to less than 2,000. It has also left people in disgust of the portions people have
been getting. The best example of this is the #thanksMichelleObama where students across the
country showcase what this program has done to schools. Lawmakers from both sides say that these ...

The federal program does reimburse schools for free and reduced lunches, which means that both
schools and low income families do benifit, though this has been in place long before Michelle.
Another is that this will help to curve early childhood obesity and promote healthy eating for a new
generation, which is why everything has become low fat in schools and could be a factor in us not
being the most obese country anymore. The last is that the lunches aren t harming students and the
meals haven t changed much. I can tell you from experience that that is dead

Jesus In The Book Of Judges
We all know that Jesus is not able to be replicated by anything from mankind. Keeping this in mind,
we still strive to be like him. I the book of Judges there are great examples of men trying to be like
Jesus, and follow in his footsteps. WE also know that we have sin in our lives so there is no way to be
perfect like Jesus was. In the book of Judges there are also many examples of people falling into sin
and being much different than Jesus. Samson was a strong warrior. Later in his life he was captured
and was put on a stage as what seems like nothing but a freak show for the rich to look at and be
entertained. At this point in times he pulls the pillars killing more people then he did when he lived.

Gideon knew that if you put your hope in the place then your numbers don t matter as much.(Judges
7) He narrowed down his men from 10,000 to 300 (as God had commanded.) With all this trust he put
in God he was able to defeat all the Midianites and prove that God can use small numbers. Jesus also
worked with very small numbers. Jesus knew that God could work though small numbers and that He
didn t need the advantage of a big crowd to win. Jesus had many followers but narrowed his core
group of followers to 12. God was able to carry on his message through these men and show his love
to the world. Samson also contrasted from Jesus and showed weakness. Samson knew his purpose and
how to fulfill it (by following the Nazarite vows) but he fell into sin many times and broke the
promise with Christ. One example of Samson breaking the Nazarite vow is touching the dead carcass
of a lion in Judges 14:9. Jesus on the other hand fulfilled his prophecy in full. He not only stayed clean
but also lived a perfect life. This ultimately ending with his main purpose of dying for all of us
through crucifixion. (Luke

The Last Days Of Summer
The last few days of summer are always unforgettable. As the school year draws near I find myself
cherishing every moment of summer fun. Everyone is staying up late and sleeping all day, except for
me. On this particular August morning, I was struggling to get up for my team s daily soccer practice.
Once dressed I was actually feeling pretty excited about the day. The twenty minute car ride flew by

Not only was sweat dripping from my brow, it was dripping all over my weak body. I sat down and

used great force and my laces to send the ball in. It flew up towards the very top right corner of the
goal frame but my effort my not enough. The team goal keeper leaped with all her might, knocking the
ball out of play and diving onto the ground making an unpleasant thud. Although it was a good shot, I
felt defeated and as I got back in line, the frustration set in. I stepped up for my next shot brimming

one on one basis.
The topics that SGT. Walsh should discuss with each officer on a one on one with each officer is what

The Manufacturing Component Of The International...
Section C
Manufacturing The manufacturing component of the International Feasibility Study can be argued as
the most important element in the decision making process for expansion. The four decision criteria
Legacy Homes saw as the best fit to our expansion efforts include available skilled workers that
demand a low wage in the market, a prime manufacturing location with a developed infrastructure
close to suppliers and consumers, the attractiveness the area presents in terms of growth potential and
incentives for new business, and the ease of transitioning current patents, capital, and culture into
Croatia. First, we will discuss our most important criterion when considering our business level
strategy of focused low cost, which is an abundance of skilled workers that demand a low wage in the
market. As Croatia focuses its efforts on economic development and a thriving business climate, they
have segmented some of their less dense regions into business zones. Many of these business zones
are near major business centers or have a fully developed infrastructure that have allowed business in
the region to grow and, as a result, towns have populated and labor pools have enlarged. The downside
is that Croatia is also introducing competitiveness clusters to foster competition amongst businesses in
similar geographic regions, which can push the price of labor up. An effect of the recent economic
downturn is a staggering 370,000 people are unemployed, so

theories on dreaming and my conclusion will be my own theory on dreaming with the research that i
have gathered throughout this project. I want to help people understand that dreaming is deeper than
just a scientific answer and they have a real meaning and guidance. Sigmund Freud s theory of dreams
suggested that dreams represented unconscious desires, thoughts, and motivations. According to Freud
s psychoanalytic view of personality, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also i learned that working memory is the part of our memory system allows us to keep information
in consciousness either because you are learning something for the first time or trying to recall
something you learned in the past. With all the information so far that i have gained from these
theories ad from my expert i came up with my own theory. I believe that our dreams are something
very personal. Eventho we have very similar dreams they mean different things. Personally i have had
dreams and have actually learned from them in the past, or they give me a sign. For an example a
dream of a plane crash would more likely to affect travel plans than either thinking about a crash, and
the dream of a plane crash produced a similar level of anxiety as did an actual crash. Or for an
example of how a dream has taught me something would be this dream I frequently dream of my
Nana who passed away a few years ago. In one of these , we are at our old house where we are talking
and suddenly that part of my brain which knows that she is no more here try s to tell me the same. I
wait for her to disappear or something but she doesn t. She is still there with me.When you know
something is supposed to happen and it will soon;then maybe you should spend the present in
enjoying the now as it is; instead of waiting for that something to happen. Once the time passes , you
won t be able to get back to that time. Spending every moment happily is better than waiting for the
happy moments to come. This is how dreams teach you lesson and also can give you signs. Dreaming
can help understand a past experience better and it can resolve problems. Dreams are whatever YOU
personally make them out to be but they do have meaning. Our brains are very powerful,

St. Ambrose Research Paper
When he was 33, Saint Ambrose was living a rich life. He was a successful lawyer and governor.
However, when the bishop of Milan died, Ambrose went to go calm the people. The people started
chanting, Ambrose for bishop! Ambrose did not want to give up his career for the life threatening
occupation (St. Ambrose par. 5) of being bishop, so he fled. He went to the emperor, but the emperor
said that he was right for the job. Once he took up the position, Ambrose gave away his property and
learned Scripture and theology. Ambrose used his skills as a lawyer and orator to fight the Arians in
church, court, senate, and even the emperor s own family. (St. Ambrose par. 7) Although his
stubbornness originally made him deny the job. It was his stubbornness that also made him a strong
bishop. (St. Ambrose par.1 7)
One of Saint Ambrose s famous quotes is A kindness received should be returned with a freer hand.
He said this because he was living in a time when people were not treated kindly. Saint Ambrose
believed in human kindness and equality. These are some qualities that make Saint Ambrose a saint.
Saint Ambrose was a good man who calmed the people and settled arguments. Saint Ambrose is a

The Workplace Conditions And Safety Climate Related...
The workplace conditions and safety climate related programmes, especially in emerging industrial
countries, are remained poorly neglected (Bosak, Coetsee, Cullinane, 2013) . For instance, Indonesia
as an emerging country has three major issues regarding safety climate, including labour market,
security and quality of the working environment issues, such as poorly paid salary and wages, long
working hours, accidents, etc. (OECD, 2014). In fact, Jamsostek (2013) reports that work accidents in
Indonesia has been increasing to one point seventy six percent per year (p.82). For example, in 2013
there were 103.285 accidents or 283 accidents per day with a total claim of 563.44b rupiah or
equivalent to US$ 56.344m (Jamsostek, 2013, p. 110). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Accordingly, employee s safety issue is not only related to physical factor but also psychological
factors. Hence, it may argue that working environments may relate to psychological safety of the
employees (Law, Dollard, Tuckey, Dormann, 2011). Furthermore, several authors have argued that
psychological safety of the employees may have an impact on other factors, such as employee s
efficacy (Al Refaie, 2013; Chen Chen, 2014; Christian, Bradley, Wallace, Burke, 2009) and
performance (Baer Frese, 2003; A. Carmeli Gittell, 2009; Edmondson, 1999). For example, when an
employee has got unsafe condition at work psychologically, it will affect his/her self confidence to
perform the job effectively and indeed, it may affect the performance of the company. Hence, it may
argue that these three factors (i.e. psychological safety, self efficacy and performance) are related.
Although there has been increasing focus on studying Psychological safety (Amponsah Tawiah et al.,
2013; Brown Leigh, 1996; Edmondson, 1999; Kahn, 1990; May, Gilson, Harter, 2004; Tynan, 2005),
self efficacy (Bandura, 1982; Elias, Barney, Bishop, 2013; Jones, 1986; Riggs Knight, 1994; Wang,

The Ancient Roman Empire
Rome, the first long and lasting empire that swept through other nations like wildfire. Rome broke the
barriers of politics and government. Rome also stood for something that citizens of today look at as
grotesque and savage. The fact that citizens would come together and cheer for another man while he
plunged his sword through his chest, with no understanding of life or family. The building that
represented this evil act is the Roman Coliseum. Although inside the coliseum death was glorified and
wished for the idea and meaning demonstrated politics and power. Rome was powerful in all meaning
of the power. Power is defined as the capability or the ability to direct or influence the behaviors of
others or the course of events. (sited by Dictornary.com). Rome certainly did this in a lot of ways.
Rome has both influenced culture and many other things. Rome itself stood over the world like a
shining example of an empire. Also, one of the most important people in this colossal empire, was the
emperor himself. One man that almost every dictator looks to as a shining example is Julius Caesar.
Julius Caesar traveled a lot as kid. And when he was young he was kidnapped by pirates. He also
traveled around the world to study and became a great war general (sited by vroma.org). Statues of
him still are in a lot of museums and public places. He has made an impact to the old world so big that
it moved cultures and united ideas. Caesar, who won the hearts and popularity of so

King Richard II And Henry V
Many English monarchs believed in the divine right to rule. This right was given to them by God,
therefore they believed that no one could take their crown or it would destroy the rightful line of
succession. However, this was not always the case and some kings such as Richard II had their crown
forced from them. If a king believed in the divine right he often had a close relationship with God. In
William Shakespeare s comedies, the divine right to rule a kingdom is present in the ways in which
Richard II, Henry IV, and Henry V are come to rule England. Both Richard II and Henry V were
powerful rulers, whose ruling was heavily dictated by their divine right to rule and their relationship
with God. Through exploring the King s relationship to God in Shakespeare s tragedies Richard II, 1
Henry IV, 2 Henry IV, and Henry V, one can see that Henry V is the ideal Christian King. In
Shakespeare s history play Richard II, King Richard II s relationship with God can be explored
throughout the play as he gives up his crown. Richard II is easily seen as weak, making some think
that he is not fit for the role of king. He does not listen to his advisors and takes money from the
nobles. These actions lead Henry Bolingbroke to take the crown. Richard II does not put up much of a
fight as he willingly hands the crown over to Bolingbroke, but he does prolong the process as he
dramatically hands his crown and scepter over. Richard II even speaks out about his power that was
given to him:

Attention Deficit Essay
In the early 70s, the main focus started to shift towards attention deficit rather than the concept of
hyperactivity (Lange et al., 2010). In fact, 4 years after the implementation of the DSM II, Douglas
(1972) argued that deficits such as sustained attention and impulse control deserved more notability.
Also, these symptoms responded better to stimulants treatment than hyperactivity (Douglas, 1972).
For this reason coupled with the influence of the scientific community, a complete reconceptualization
of Hyperkinetic Reaction of Childhood was considered. In 1980, the DSM III was published and
renamed the disorder Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) (Barkley, 2006). The disorder could now be
diagnosed with or without hyperactivity. Attention deficits and impulse control were considered more
important than hyperactivity as determinants for diagnosis (Lange et al., 2010). Moreover, the DSM
III contained an explicit numerical cutoff score for symptoms, specific guidelines for age of onset and
duration of symptoms, and the requirement of exclusion of other childhood psychiatric conditions
(Barkley, 2006, p.19). A lot of controversy emerged from these changes, as little empirical evidence
existed to support the concept of Attention Deficit disorder (Barkley, 2006). Confusion arose
concerning the similarities of both types of ADD and it was not clear if they should be considered as
the same disorder or two different psychiatric entities. Seven years later, a revision of the DSM III
(DSM III R) was published based on empirical validation. The subtype component was removed and
the disorder was renamed Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) (APA, 1987). ... Show

The american victory was because of a variety of reasons. They were hard fighters and wanted
freedom, they knew the most of their geography, they got aid from france and spain who provided

spain and the french to win their freedom from britain as well as their courageous patriotic fighting

geography of the colonies and they could use hills and other geographic features that the british didn t

Rumination, Hope and Depression
Depression is one of the most common mental health problems encountered by adult men and women
(Kessler, Chiu, Demler, Walters, 2005; World Health Organisation [WHO], 2009). Affecting
approximately 121 million individuals worldwide, depression is within the top five leading causes of
disease and disability (WHO, 2009). Andrade et al. (2003) indicated that the prevalence of depression
among adults worldwide ranged between 1.2% and 10% among 10 different countries, with seven of
the ten countries clustered between the ranges of 3.5% to 5.9%. Within Australia, 12 month prevalence
rates for adults (16 85 years) for a depressive episode was 4.4% and for dysthymia was 1.3%, with

Those that do not meet diagnostic criteria for depressive disorders but have subthreshold depression
can still experience considerable psychological suffering (Cuijpers, de Graaf, van Dorsselaer, 2004;
Rapaport et al., 2002), and harmful implications for quality of life (Goldney, Fisher, Grande, Taylor
2004; Gotlib, Lewinsohn, Seeley, 1995).
Subthreshold depression has been characterised as the presence of depressive symptoms occurring in
individuals who do not meet diagnostic criteria for Major Depressive Disorder or Dysthymic Disorder
(APA, 2000; Cuijpers Smit, 2004; Kessler, Zhao, Blazer, Swartz, 1997; Judd, Rapaport, Paulus,
Brown, 1994). Subthreshold depression can be defined as scoring above cut off scores on self rating
depression scales or meeting DSM IV TR criteria for Minor Depression (Cuijpers Smit, 2004).
Symptoms of subthreshold depression can impact on an individual s emotions (dysphoria and guilt),
cognitions (worry, self criticism, self blame), behaviours (withdrawal from social functioning,
anhedonia) and physical wellbeing (lethargy, changes in weight) (APA, 2000).

(Don t be afraid to use supply and demand diagrams in your explain and examples.)
Usury Laws can lead to a black market in money lending. These regulations set by the government are
intended to protect the citizens from greedy lenders by setting a maximum rate of interest, above
which it is illegal to lend money. Lenders charge higher rates of interest to compensate for the amount
of risk that can be associated with the transaction, risk being the likely hood of not getting paid in full.
Once a usury law is put in effect there becomes a maximum rate at which the lender can lend money.
With this maximum rate of interest some potential borrowers will be assumed too risky because it is
not legal to charge the rate of interest to compensate the risk associated with lending. This leads to a
smaller amount of money available to borrow from legitimate lenders, so often a borrower will turn to
a black market lender who will illegally lend them money at a higher rate of interest. Often times the
black market lender will use forms of persuasion such as bodily harm to the borrower and their family
to ensure repayment. This clearly is more dangerous than high interest rates. Below is a supply and
demand curve that demonstrates the government interest rate and the black market correlation.

With this in mind I will aim to use the movement as an Instrumental Case study. Theorist Stake offers
the following definition of this form of research explaining that an instrumental case study presents
the case as a subject of secondary interest, and one that plays a supportive role to assist the
understanding of something else. (2) Ultimately with the aid of my case study I can focus on the
characteristics that defined the Grrrl movement and extract the key information from that era in
relation to my question. Finally I must explain that I do not solely believe Riot Grrrl to thoroughly
represent third wave feminism, but rather a smaller part of a much greater collective.
With regards to researcher Fredrick Erickson, the most distinctive feature of case studies and other
methods of qualitative enquiry are there emphasis upon critical personal interpretation.(3) With this in
mind I aim to be able to not only record data objectively but to simultaneously examine its meaning
and draw upon my own conclusions. This can be of crucial importance when studying works that may

The Effects Of Technology On The Environment
While it may be evident that technology is altering many aspects of life, increasing amounts of
evidence declare that technology benefits us. While the author s argument makes excellent points, they
believe technology is negatively effecting people s lives. The author demonstrates competence but
lacks rigid evidence defending his opinionated reasoning. The written article therefore provides little

individual who has done countless studies on how learning and technology coexist. However, the
research stated is offered little background. It leads the reader to believe that the studies
unquestionably proved negative effects of technology effecting learning behavior. The author declares
that the studies were on individual classrooms, this leads to many questions on how accurate and

abundance of benefits technology invokes on the environment. In the article the author states, Multiple

of that quote, there has been an over abundance of evidence proving how incorrect it is. Since

  • 2. # 39 ; S Use Of The Allegory In Dante s Inferno The Italian poet, Dante Alighieri, takes the audience on a journey through the stories of hell, purgatory, and heaven in Dante s Inferno. Starting in hell, Dante tells the story of his journey and his experiences, under the guidance of the classical Roman poet Virgil, as he travels through the nine circles of hell to reach heaven. Through his very detailed descriptions of punishments, settings and characters, the poem serves an allegorical purpose by showing one man s desperate journey from confusion and depression to salvation. An allegory is a story with both a literal and symbolic meaning. Dante uses an allegory in Canto I and he describes his internal struggle through the dark forest which represents his mid life crisis. Canto I s allegory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He often has great fun tormenting sinners, while being surrounded by flames. People often picture him as attractive, a proud rebel, one who has refused to spend his life serving God, and many have identified with him. Even those who have portrayed him in a way that emphasizes his evil nature have portrayed him as powerful and dangerous. But nobody pictures Satan the same way Dante does. Dante depicts Satan as almost completely passive. Dante shows Satan being stuck in the ice in the depths of Hell, and his only actions are to flap his wings, and thus freeze the ice in which he s stuck, to gnaw on the sinners in his three mouths, and to weep tears and blood. Dante describes Satan as huge, and at first Dante cannot help but be terrified of him, but his size is the only reminder of his stature when he was Lucifer and the fairest angel in Heaven. Dante depicts him as horribly ugly with his three faces of different colors. His former beauty was of course given to him by his Creator, so the mention of that beauty makes it appalling that he could have rebelled against God, who made him out of nothing and made him so beautiful. And Dante sees that he should not fear him, since he has no real power. He cannot even stop Dante and Virgil from escaping from Hell by climbing down his body to the center of the earth and then turning around and climbing up. The last sight Dante and Virgil ... • 3. Unteaching The Five Paragraph Essay By Marie Foley Analysis Unteaching The Five Paragraph essay by Marie Foley is a light hearted but argumentive piece focusing on the way most school aged children are taught to write. Foley s main point comes down to the very first words in the essay; The five paragraph formula confuses and alienates students and undermines our most basic goals as writing instructors. Foley believes that by teaching children to write in a formulated manner we are not letting them explore and learn through their own writing. We are instead giving them the freedom to discontinue the thought process once they feel that the essay they have produced meets the formula standards they have been kept to, and refuse to part with. Marie Foley then brings up a critique by William Coles on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Donzoko High Socioeconomic Perspective Oppression is a prologue of unjust and cruel control. It is closely associated with low socioeconomic statuses making the desire to escape it very scarce. In Donzoko, by Akira Kurosawa and The Lower Depths, by Maxim Gorky, characters are presented with low socioeconomic statuses. The absurdity and cruelness of having a low socioeconomic status is displayed as well as the characters persistent fight to escape it. The Lower Depths, by Maxim Gorky and the cinematic adaptation, Donzoko, by Akira Kurosawa portray the inescapable oppressed socioeconomic status of characters, however, the mean ways in which this is displayed vary as Gorky relies on dramatic conventions and Kurosawa relies on cinematic conventions. In Donzoko, Akira Kurosawa utilizes the cinematic convention of varying camera angles as it exemplifies the inescapable oppression and socioeconomic statuses by expressing a multitude of perspectives. Throughout the movie, a reoccurring angle was shot from below. The low angles intend for the audience to feel a sense of entrapment since only little sky and high walls are seen in the background. In one scene Sutekichi whom is given a low socioeconomic status walks outside. As a result of the low angle, the character is viewed from below and the audience perceive a sense of entrapment. This sensation is justified by the seldom appearances of sky and frequency of walls which expresses the impossibility of escaping this status. Additionally, the low angle provides the ... • 6. The Discovery Of The Space Station Someday, somehow, Clarke knew that she would witness the beauty of Earth. She would be able to feel the sun warm her skin, and have the wind kiss her cheeks as she walked through a forest. Maybe she would watch a rabbit hop out of a bush, or follow butterflies as she wandered carelessly around the ground if those creatures were still alive from all the radiation. Her father had always told her stories about Earth, visualizing it as a heaven for the living. It had been nearly ninety seven years since the last humans touched the Earth s surface, and only a couple hundred thousand had survived long enough to make it to the Ark the space station where the last human beings have been living in since the nuclear bombings. Had the humans not been at conflict with one another, then maybe they would still be inhabitants of Earth. But war brought distrust, and distrust in the other countries led to nuclear warfare. While watching the old documentaries of the last surviving humans retelling their stories of Earth, Clarke realized how different the Ark was, and how she would never live to her fullest until she was on the ground. The Ark was always cold, and empty, and the oxygen she breathed felt, if she could describe it in a word, fake. Surely, Clarke had never before breathed oxygen from the ground, but its as almost as if her mind knew the oxygen she breathed wasn t right. As she sat against the stone wall of her small cell, she stared at her drawings of Earth. With only a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Shortly after arriving, conflict stirs up. A so called fire begins. Paul and his mother quickly got nervous and called the fire department. The fire truck came over to their home, 20 minutes late, casually cruising up the street. Once they begin talking, the firefighter explains that it s a unstoppable muck fire. Mr. Costello, the president of the homeowners association came to the Fisher home to help explain the muck fires a little bit more in depth. Mr. Costello decided to bring his son along, Mike, who would be holding footballs for Erik to kick this season. The next afternoon, Mrs. Fisher and Paul take route 89 ... After Paul recollected himself from the rough couple weeks and the carnival the night before, he entered school as if everything was okay. The tables quickly turned and he was sent to the office along with the group of boys that he went to the carnival with. Mrs. Gates explained that the Police Department had alerted Lake Windsor of vandalism of a carnival exhibit by a team of soccer players. Paul spoke up and explained that he had seen a team walk into the exhibit, and walk out. Mrs. Gates and all the rest of the teachers recognised the school that the boys attended and thanked Paul for his honesty. That same day, another misfortune occurred. A sinkhole swallowed up multiple portables, teachers, and children. Strangely, Paul s father was affected more from the sinkhole more than Paul was, even thought Paul was on the scene. Mr. Fisher received a great deal of phone calls from angry parents. A meeting was held soon after, Mrs. Gates delivered the news that students could either run a split shift at the middle school or relocate for the rest of the term to Tangerine Middle School. As time had come to pass,so had a sunrise, however there was no light, for all that was left was the darkness of man s heart 8.This novel is based upon the workings of the heart because it describes a story where a group of innocent twelve year old boys from England who couldn t do any harm back home split into two distinct groups on the island, which were those who attempted to maintain an order and the others who followed their more primal instincts such as bloodlust and violence. It s All About the Literature It s all about the Literature Heather Henegar Grand Canyon University: RDG 514 July 2, 2015 It s All About the Literature As with any area in curriculum and instruction, teachers should not be fully dependent on one source, but rather use a variety of resources to help students understand content. The same can be said with the use of textbooks. Teachers should supplement core curriculum with quality trade books (GCU, 2012). Trade books can offer a wealth of information such as a means to expand vocabulary, clarify concepts, explore real world situations, and entertain (GCU, 2012). • 12. Eye Reflection Paper On June 11, 2012 at almost 10 pm, I slipped while running in flip flops trying to reach my boyfriend before his Jeep pulled out of the driveway. As I fell, my ankle bent back snapping, making a loud crack, and causing my leg to be trapped underneath my back. Crying out in pain, I managed to flip myself face down in the wet grass, relieving the pressure on my leg. I screamed for help for what felt like hours before someone inside the house realized I was hurt. My friend s whole family came outside to try to help, while someone called my boyfriend to come back and take me to the hospital. With the help of 3 people, I managed to stand up and my way to hop to the Jeep as my broken ankle flopped back and forth. Upon arriving at the hospital, I was rushed to the X ray room to access the damage that had been done. I remember the comment the technician made to my boyfriend after I was sent to a room to wait, We still need to take her for a CT scan to know the full extent of the damage, but from the looks of the X ray s, there is no way those bones are going back together without surgery. The ankle is shattered. Those words were burned into my head as I was taken for a CT scan and then finally returned to my bed. I remember finally feeling calmer as they put the IV in my arm and injected me full of drugs to help with the immense pain. The doctor came in to tell me that I had a bimalleolar fracture and explained that I multiple fractures on my fibula and my tibia. The only fix would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was orgininally designed to provide low cost, healthy lunches at a reduced cost and was relatively effective. Lately however, since first lady Michelle Obama fueled a massive overhaul of the program shortly after her husband took office stripping the meals of so called unhealthy content and started to require the School Lunch act to meet minimum nutritional standards... This federal program has become too much about controlling what students eat vs. its content and it needs to be changed. Ever since first lady Obama rolled out the new guidelines in 2010, there has been a severe backlash from not just students, but from parents and lawmakers alike. For the past few years, the program has been stripping food of its appeal, flavor, and quantity for a healthier option to curve obesity. This has caused the amount of food that growing students, who need anywhere from 2,000 to 3,200 calories a day to less than 2,000. It has also left people in disgust of the portions people have been getting. I the book of Judges there are great examples of men trying to be like Jesus, and follow in his footsteps. WE also know that we have sin in our lives so there is no way to be perfect like Jesus was. In the book of Judges there are also many examples of people falling into sin and being much different than Jesus. Samson was a strong warrior. Later in his life he was captured and was put on a stage as what seems like nothing but a freak show for the rich to look at and be entertained. At this point in times he pulls the pillars killing more people then he did when he lived. (Judges 16) Now, this doesn t compare to Jesus at all. The point that compares to Jesus is the fact ... Gideon knew that if you put your hope in the place then your numbers don t matter as much.(Judges 7) He narrowed down his men from 10,000 to 300 (as God had commanded.) Jesus knew that God could work though small numbers and that He didn t need the advantage of a big crowd to win. Jesus had many followers but narrowed his core group of followers to 12. God was able to carry on his message through these men and show his love to the world. Samson also contrasted from Jesus and showed weakness. Samson knew his purpose and how to fulfill it (by following the Nazarite vows) but he fell into sin many times and broke the promise with Christ. One example of Samson breaking the Nazarite vow is touching the dead carcass of a lion in Judges 14:9. Jesus on the other hand fulfilled his prophecy in full. • 18. The Manufacturing Component Of The International... Section C Manufacturing The manufacturing component of the International Feasibility Study can be argued as the most important element in the decision making process for expansion. The four decision criteria Legacy Homes saw as the best fit to our expansion efforts include available skilled workers that demand a low wage in the market, a prime manufacturing location with a developed infrastructure close to suppliers and consumers, the attractiveness the area presents in terms of growth potential and incentives for new business, and the ease of transitioning current patents, capital, and culture into Croatia. First, we will discuss our most important criterion when considering our business level strategy of focused low cost, which is an abundance of skilled workers that demand a low wage in the market. As Croatia focuses its efforts on economic development and a thriving business climate, they have segmented some of their less dense regions into business zones. Many of these business zones are near major business centers or have a fully developed infrastructure that have allowed business in the region to grow and, as a result, towns have populated and labor pools have enlarged. The downside is that Croatia is also introducing competitiveness clusters to foster competition amongst businesses in similar geographic regions, which can push the price of labor up. Eventho we have very similar dreams they mean different things. Personally i have had dreams and have actually learned from them in the past, or they give me a sign. For an example a dream of a plane crash would more likely to affect travel plans than either thinking about a crash, and the dream of a plane crash produced a similar level of anxiety as did an actual crash. Or for an example of how a dream has taught me something would be this dream I frequently dream of my Nana who passed away a few years ago. In one of these , we are at our old house where we are talking and suddenly that part of my brain which knows that she is no more here try s to tell me the same. I wait for her to disappear or something but she doesn t. She is still there with me.When you know something is supposed to happen and it will soon;then maybe you should spend the present in enjoying the now as it is; instead of waiting for that something to happen. Once the time passes , you won t be able to get back to that time. Spending every moment happily is better than waiting for the happy moments to come. This is how dreams teach you lesson and also can give you signs. Dreaming can help understand a past experience better and it can resolve problems. Hence, it may argue that working environments may relate to psychological safety of the employees (Law, Dollard, Tuckey, Dormann, 2011). • 23. King Richard II And Henry V Many English monarchs believed in the divine right to rule. This right was given to them by God, therefore they believed that no one could take their crown or it would destroy the rightful line of succession. However, this was not always the case and some kings such as Richard II had their crown forced from them. If a king believed in the divine right he often had a close relationship with God. In William Shakespeare s comedies, the divine right to rule a kingdom is present in the ways in which Richard II, Henry IV, and Henry V are come to rule England. Both Richard II and Henry V were powerful rulers, whose ruling was heavily dictated by their divine right to rule and their relationship with God. Through exploring the King s relationship to God in Shakespeare s tragedies Richard II, 1 Henry IV, 2 Henry IV, and Henry V, one can see that Henry V is the ideal Christian King. In Shakespeare s history play Richard II, King Richard II s relationship with God can be explored throughout the play as he gives up his crown. Richard II is easily seen as weak, making some think that he is not fit for the role of king. He does not listen to his advisors and takes money from the nobles. These actions lead Henry Bolingbroke to take the crown. Richard II does not put up much of a fight as he willingly hands the crown over to Bolingbroke, but he does prolong the process as he dramatically hands his crown and scepter over. • 28. Attention Deficit Essay In the early 70s, the main focus started to shift towards attention deficit rather than the concept of hyperactivity (Lange et al., 2010). In fact, 4 years after the implementation of the DSM II, Douglas (1972) argued that deficits such as sustained attention and impulse control deserved more notability. Also, these symptoms responded better to stimulants treatment than hyperactivity (Douglas, 1972). For this reason coupled with the influence of the scientific community, a complete reconceptualization of Hyperkinetic Reaction of Childhood was considered. In 1980, the DSM III was published and renamed the disorder Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) (Barkley, 2006). The disorder could now be diagnosed with or without hyperactivity. Attention deficits and impulse control were considered more important than hyperactivity as determinants for diagnosis (Lange et al., 2010). Moreover, the DSM III contained an explicit numerical cutoff score for symptoms, specific guidelines for age of onset and duration of symptoms, and the requirement of exclusion of other childhood psychiatric conditions (Barkley, 2006, p.19). A lot of controversy emerged from these changes, as little empirical evidence existed to support the concept of Attention Deficit disorder (Barkley, 2006). Confusion arose concerning the similarities of both types of ADD and it was not clear if they should be considered as the same disorder or two different psychiatric entities. Seven years later, a revision of the DSM III (DSM III R) was published based on empirical validation. The subtype component was removed and the disorder was renamed Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) (APA, 1987). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She found her letters from Lio, a more than deserving friend of hers, and immediately felt anger towards her father. She reacted by crashing both their cars outside of his other family s house, which she paid for with a slap. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Don t be afraid to use supply and demand diagrams in your explain and examples.) Usury Laws can lead to a black market in money lending. These regulations set by the government are intended to protect the citizens from greedy lenders by setting a maximum rate of interest, above which it is illegal to lend money. Lenders charge higher rates of interest to compensate for the amount of risk that can be associated with the transaction, risk being the likely hood of not getting paid in full. Once a usury law is put in effect there becomes a maximum rate at which the lender can lend money. With this maximum rate of interest some potential borrowers will be assumed too risky because it is not legal to charge the rate of interest to compensate the risk associated with lending. This leads to a smaller amount of money available to borrow from legitimate lenders, so often a borrower will turn to a black market lender who will illegally lend them money at a higher rate of interest. Often times the black market lender will use forms of persuasion such as bodily harm to the borrower and their family to ensure repayment. This clearly is more dangerous than high interest rates. Below is a supply and demand curve that demonstrates the government interest rate and the black market correlation. 5. • 34. Essay about Research Methodology Report Research Methodology Report My themed research project will centre its focus upon the link between Riot Grrrl and its relation to Third Wave Feminism. Primarily I aim to analyse Riot Grrrl s music scene, but also its subculture mentioning its DIY punk ethic, political activism and most importantly its influential Zine network. However the purpose of this report is to demonstrate a grounded understanding in three research methodologies and how I will apply each one in regards to my own project. Firstly I ll investigate the advantages of an Instrumental Case Study, looking at how it proliferates, rather than narrows a given field of study. Secondly I will delve into Symbolic Interactionism referring to some influential figures involved ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With this in mind I will aim to use the movement as an Instrumental Case study. Theorist Stake offers the following definition of this form of research explaining that an instrumental case study presents the case as a subject of secondary interest, and one that plays a supportive role to assist the understanding of something else. (2) Ultimately with the aid of my case study I can focus on the characteristics that defined the Grrrl movement and extract the key information from that era in relation to my question. Finally I must explain that I do not solely believe Riot Grrrl to thoroughly represent third wave feminism, but rather a smaller part of a much greater collective. With regards to researcher Fredrick Erickson, the most distinctive feature of case studies and other methods of qualitative enquiry are there emphasis upon critical personal interpretation.(3) With this in mind I aim to be able to not only record data objectively but to simultaneously examine its meaning and draw upon my own conclusions. This can be of crucial importance when studying works that may have a biased edge to them. In my case, this primarily refers to information that I will extract from the influential Riot Grrrl Zine* network. Due to the very nature of Zine writing and manufacturing (in bedrooms and in secret at work) having the ability to take an autonomous view on the subject will prove vital in allowing me to ... • 35. Yellow Shawl Research Paper Girl in the Yellow Shawl When I wake up, the first thing I feel is an aching pain in my feet. The pain moves on to my stomach, filling my belly with an unpleasantly hollow sensation. Then the ache proceeds to my head, pounding against the back of my skull. Pain is not an unusual or foreign sensation to me; we two are as familiar as a pair of twins in the womb. As I grow more aware, the ache of my body becomes more persistent. My feet are mostly numb except for the occasional sting of the cold snow on my bare toes. I pull myself up from the frozen ground and wrap my tattered, yellow shawl closer to my frigid body. I sigh as I examine the frayed ends and the disgusting mustard color the fabric has assumed. I ought to get a new one, but I barely have enough money for food, much less a nice shawl. This winter has been a particularly bad one. I am always hungry, always searching for something more satisfying. The city has been cold ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I carefully push my way through the crowd until I reach the source of the music. Behind a thick pane of glass into an electronics shop, I can see an old, boxy television. A man is on the screen now, well dressed with slicked back hair and a clean business suit. He holds a stack of papers in his hands, occasionally tapping them against the desk or looking down so he can read his news reports. My interest in the man quickly wanes. I do not care much for the weather report (cold), the status of the local government (poor), or updates on the homelessness rates in the city (high). I am starting to turn away from the dirty window pane and walk towards a street corner that is good for begging when the newscaster s face changes abruptly. Startled, I lean in even ... • 36. The Effects Of Technology On The Environment While it may be evident that technology is altering many aspects of life, increasing amounts of evidence declare that technology benefits us. While the author s argument makes excellent points, they believe technology is negatively effecting people s lives. The author demonstrates competence but lacks rigid evidence defending his opinionated reasoning. The written article therefore provides little effect to believing their cause. The author begins their argument by stating information about an individual who has done countless studies on how learning and technology coexist. However, the research stated is offered little background. It leads the reader to believe that the studies unquestionably proved negative effects of technology effecting learning behavior. The author declares that the studies were on individual classrooms, this leads to many questions on how accurate and reliable the results were, when looking at a widespread audience. The author fails to consider the abundance of benefits technology invokes on the environment. In the article the author states, Multiple studies of violent media games have shown that they can produce many negative effects, including aggressive behavior (Greenfield 3). While at first glance the reader might not question the authenticity of that quote, there has been an over abundance of evidence proving how incorrect it is. Since technology started becoming a keen part of everyday lives, there has been countless studies determining ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
