How Can Plot Machines Uplift A Nation
Can Slot Machines Uplift a Nation? When the subject of Native Americans or Indian reservations is
brought up most people bring casino gambling to mind. Approximately five hundred and sixty tribes
are recognized by the federal government, and only about one third conduct casino style gambling.
(Light and Rand 9) Reservations are sovereign nations, meaning tribes are Dependent on and
subordinate to, only the federal government, not the states. (Light and Rand 36) This has been the
tribes Ace in the hole that has allowed many reservations to prosper through the operation of casinos.
Politics, crime, addiction, even suicide can all be tied to casinos on Indian reservations, as can better
living conditions, basic health care, higher ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From an moral standpoint the IGRA was created to keep in check the ethics of gambling in casinos but
we find that the IGRA does not create the greatest amount of utility for tribes, but restricts their rights
and gives an unfair advantage to state government. The IGRA is unethical in regards to tribes
operating casinos on reservations. Since the settlement of America, Native Americans have received
the short end of the stick. Settlers continuously encroached upon Native American land, completely
disregarding the fact the Indians were there first. After years of displacing the Indians and fighting
with them, the government allotted reservations for the Indians to call their own. Now that tribes have
been finally given a chance at economic development, many reservations have taken advantage of
casinos to provide a better life for tribal members. Moral issues have been brought up, from
government to non Native Americans. Even tribal members argue the moral issues. People who are
fighting this are fighting it for a variety of reasons. It s just how it would change the whole
community, the flavor. Having a 24 7 bright lights, honky tonk feel, it s just not what people want.
Says Susie Dewberry, a Suislaw tribal member. (Pittenger) One of the great benefits the casinos have
created is employment for many Native Americans.

Environmental Management System and Business Efficiency
Environmental Management System and Business Efficiency
A printing company has various environmental and environmental management issues to deal with.
For Marks Printing Company, the main environmental and business concern is the volume of business
and printed paper from the five year contract. The contract is awarded to the company on condition it
has a proven commitment to environmental management. The expectation is the company has an
operational environmental management system (EMS). Key concern for the contractor is the ability
for Marks Company to manage and dispose the huge amounts of waste generated inform of paper, the
recycling and use of recycled paper. This also includes the management and proper disposal of waste
high in ink, since printing ink has heavy metals or oil products like the petroleum based printing ink.
The third environmental concern is the management and disposal of sludge from pulp paper with de
inked paper. This is with the removal of unused ink, waste paper, and contaminated waste, the storage
of damping alcohol, solvents, liquid waste, and blanket wash at the car park, creating health, and
safety concerns.
Fourthly, the contractor expects the EMS plan to handle energy consumption, since printing
companies are huge consumers of power. This is especially from the use of a 12 year old press,
computer monitors using traditional CRT, and the installation of the conditioning and extraction
system. This goes along with the efficient management

Compare And Contrast Lenin And Stalin
Lenin s search for obedient followers and hard workers would eventually lead him to Joseph Stalin.
Stalin was courageous, rambunctious, bold, fierce, and determined. Stalin knew that in order to secure
his place within the Bolsheviks, and move up the ranks, he needed to prove himself worthy to their
cause. Stalin used these traits and put them to work gaining Lenin s admiration. What Stalin really
excelled in was organization, something that the early Bolshevik party desperately needed. While
Stalin may not have been the most intelligent or the most the most typical candidate for acceleration,
accelerate he did. In this time, had this been a normal government Stalin would not have risen
amongst the ranks due to his lower class ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Stalin s power began to grow, there was one person who dared speak out against it, Vladimir
Lenin. After suffering a stroke in 1922, Lenin went into semi retirement. Stalin and Trotsky both
became concerned with who would become his successor. Stalin and Lenin had a strong political
relationship and Stalin would visit Lenin often to discuss the direction of Russia and the Soviet Union.
However, one day Stalin cursed at Lenin s wife and Lenin was understandably very upset. This began
the breaking down of their relationship. Lenin began heeding the warnings from Trotsky about Stalin s
power hungry ways and he began keeping detailed notes of disapproval about Joseph Stalin. Although
Lenin s Testament was meant to be a public account of Lenin s fears in terms of the Soviet Union
under Stalin, Stalin had allied with Lev Kamanev, the acting Premier during Lenin s last year, and
Grigori Zionoviev, head of the Comintern, and through their combined influence, they had suppressed
the document from being revealed to the Twelfth Party Congress. Although these men did not truly
agree with his policies, they did not want Trotsky to take over so they sided with Stalin to prevent that
from happening. On January 21, 1924, Lenin died. Thanks to Kamanev and Zionoviev s influence,
Lenin s Testament was again not made public but instead only read to the Thirteenth Party Congress.
Although people were shocked to hear Lenin s thoughts of Stalin,

The Ieee On Indoor Li Fi Systems
White Paper to the IEEE on Indoor Li Fi Systems
Matthew Fultz
ENGH 302
Due: 12/8/2016
Introduction
In 2011, Herald Haas gave a Ted talk on light fidelity (Li Fi) and demonstrated a functional Li Fi
system and spoke of the future of telecommunications (Haas, Harald). His lecture sparked a wave of
research on bidirectional Li Fi that has given renewed hope for the internet of things (IoT). Kevin
Ashton, an MIT graduate, first introduced the IoT when he gave a presentation on the goal in 1999
(Davenport, Thomas). Herald Haas, who is now owns a Li Fi company called pureLiFi, asserts that
every luminaire in a trafficked area will serve as an access point (AP) for user devices (UD)(Haas,
Harald). Since 2011, we have done a research on how to best implement Li Fi, but there is still much
research to be done. With the tight congestion in the RF spectrum, we are forced to look for other
wireless solutions. There are a few solutions, such as WiGig, but Li Fi has emerged as the fastest
means of bidirectionally wirelessly transmitting information. There are many advantages and many
drawbacks, but the more research we conduct, the closer we get to making Li Fi a widespread
technology.
The implementation of light fidelity (Li Fi) is the next step towards a world characterized by the
Internet of Things (IoT) because it will enable faster communication, release pressure off of the RF
spectrum, and increase network security. Li Fi, like WiFi,

What is your definition of aging? Maxine thought this question was quite basic. However, after much
thought she stated that aging is simply advancing in age. Upon further questioning she explained that
her definition is a view of the total process of aging. She does not define aging in a biological,
functional, psychological, sociologic or spiritual domain. #61623; What are you key accomplishments
(e.g., active in specific areas, social contributions, volunteer activities, and unique or adventurous
activities)? Maxine explained that what she considers her key accomplishments are not actions which
society typically views as dramatic. Her most notable accomplishment is living to be seventy two
years old. Once we acknowledged her age, she began to detail her almost life long connection with her
church and subsequent Christian community. She stressed that she has been an active, almost lifelong
member of this Christian community for the last fifty four years. During a humorous moment she

Thinking During The Renaissance
The disciplines of thinking among the studies of art and science intertwine to form an understanding
from our truths. During the Renaissance, artists such as Leonardo da Vinci were students of
physiology, anatomy, and mathematics. The Baroque era furthered the study of art and science with
the influences of Galileo Galilei, Nicolaus Copernicus, and Isaac Newton to elevate humanism as
observed by the paintings of Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio and others. Later in history, the
Rococo period embellished the Baroque style for a more lavish expression of playfulness among
aristocracy during an age of Enlightenment. The Renaissance, Baroque, and Rococo ages advanced
disciplines of thinking in the scope of art and science by intertwining these

A Place On The Page Essay
A Place on the Page Just north of Chillicothe, Ohio, the land changes from flat, black soil farmland to
rolling, coal filled hills. The place becomes increasingly familiar to me the green sign for Jesus In the
Hills Camp, the brown sign for Leo Petroglyph, friends and relative s homes and as I navigate the
slopes and curves that lead me back to my childhood home in Jackson, a pleasant nostalgia begins to
take some of the tension out of the muscles around my neck and shoulders. After a decade of twisting
and contorting myself into an unsuitable life in Christian ministry, I began to write and my attention
turned back to my home, to that familiar landscape. I found the beauty in the cultural distinctiveness
once taken for granted, even held in contempt. I had been fed, clothed and educated by money made
from mining coal, and I am the product of a family that valued work and the love of the written word
as a conduit for understanding and contextualizing our place in the world. And so, this is what I write
about, the place and the people I know. Although I am not a Southern writer, I am drawn to writers
from the South because of their distinctive voices and desire never to divorce characters from place.
Their stories and characters struggle with the human condition generational poverty, extractive
economies, and familial dysfunction in the same way that I witnessed people going about their lives in
Jackson. My hour long bus ride to school each day included a stop on the

Figurative Language In Prophetic Literature
1)
The figurative language in prophetic literature, wisdom literature, and Lamentations all depict
feminine figures and characteristics. The prophetic literature consists of Amos, Hosea, Isiah, Jeremiah,
and Ezekiel. In these scriptures, the people of Israel are depicted as pitiless and loveless by naming the
Children of Hosea and Gomer Lo ruhamah and Lo ammi explaining them as children of whoredom .
This imagery is seen as Israel (Gomer) as a woman who has betrayed God (Hosea) through infidelity,
worshiping other Gods and procreating with other people in those religions. We see Israel as an
exposed woman for her iniquity (Hosea 2:3 9) a shaming for her transgressions as a bride. God casts
Israel out of the home for her disloyalty (Hosea ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Two metanarratives are seen in the Chronicles; the importance and redemption of repentance, and the
reoccurring theme throughout the old testament, exile and return. David is the model for repentance
but there is a new story of repentance not seen in the book of Kings, Manasseh. In 2 Chronicles 33:10
13 Manasseh repents for his foreign worship and more, by building an outer wall to protect the city of
David and removed false idols to restore the altars of YHWH. The repentance of Manasseh is
completely missing in the book of Kings. Exile and return are experienced in 2 Chronicles 36:11 21,
although kings may have repented (David, Solomon, and Manasseh) it is not implied that the people
of Israel have also (2 Chronicles 34:23 24) and therefore God lets His people return to exile. The holy
places are destroyed and desecrated while the Israelites are forced again into exile. Thankfully, exile is
always followed with return and restoration. King Cyrus acknowledges the Hebrew God and rebuilds
the temple and the Israelites are free from exile once

Peter Paul Rubens Essay
In 1600, Peter Paul Rubens left his home in Antwerp, and he set off to Italy. Soon after arriving in
Italy, Ruben entered the service of the Duke of Mantua, Vincenzo Gonzaga.
The duke s palace had a great art collection, and Ruben found time to visit various other cities in Italy
since he wasn t expected to be at the household all of the time.
Rubens completed his education in Rome.
During Rubens first visit to Rome, he painted 3 altarpieces for the Church of Sta Croce.
In 1603, Peter s duke sent Peter on a diplomatic mission to Spain where he made an equestrian portrait
of the Duke of Lerma.

His mother s sickness and death would change Rubens career forever. When Rubens heard that his

In Antwerp, the sovereigns, or rulers, of Spanish Netherlands appointed Ruben as court painter.

The Choice of Medea
The Choice of Media Medea and her lack of control The story of Medea is a story of heartache, loss
and death. A reader may portray Medea as a strong woman and then again portrayed as a crazy
murderer. The question that arises often in conversation of this play is the question of Medea s choice
and lack of control. The play of Medea is delivered with obsessions and the love for Jason then
turning to death, revenge and dishonor. The answer is very clear that Medea is a woman in total
control of the actions done, and is willing to kill family and children for vengeance and satisfaction of
a pay back. Medea s root of anger and choices come from the love inside for Jason who causes the
ultimate betrayal. Medea was truly in love with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Nurse s words and the Chorus s words were brushed aside as Medea s actions continued. Medea
was given a choice just as any young women or man is given a choice at the time of heartache,
betrayal or humility. The choice for anyone is to choose to show strength in walking away or fold to
the feelings of vengeance and revenge. Medea made a clear minded choice to follow the hurt and the
want of revenge to justify what happened to the life she once knew. Medea made the choice to poison
the new wife and the children. The actions were thought of and acted upon and only a woman strong,
clear minded and out for pure revenge could ever do these things. Medea spoke clearly of each detail
as the dirty dead was set up No let me have my way. They say the Gods themselves are moved by
gifts, and gold does more with men than words. ( Euripides 710) Jason falls for this begging and
convincing act of gifts by Medea. Medea pouting and reeling Jason in with kind words yet deceiving
results is the ultimate mind game. Jason could be considered a fool to fall for the gift of children,
clothes and a blessing from the heart that Medea offers. Jason doesn t believe that Medea could do the
unthinkable. Medea s words soft and convincing thought out and bold. Jason wanting nothing more

Goodfellas Analysis Essay
GoodFellas
Intro
At the beginning of the 1970s, two men, by the names of Martin Scorcese and Robert De Niro, met
and started an extremely successful and world renowned string of movie director/actor collaborations.
Over the course of 22 years, spawning from 1973, with their first film Mean Streets, to 1995, with their
most recent work Casino, the duo paired up for 8 movies, most of which are considered some of the
greatest films of all time. The most notable, however, would have to be their 1990 movie Goodfellas, a
classic film which was nominated for 6 oscars, winning one, and named the greatest film of all time
by British film magazine Total Film, an organized crime movie which is one of my favorite movies.

The character becomes in conflict with himself when he meets and marries a girl by the name of
Karen Friedman, which makes him reconsider his life as a gangster. However, he realizes that he is too
deep into it and can not walk away. Despite this, for most of the film, he remains his calm, composed
and likeable self, as he is shown as the only sane person of the crew. The catalyst to his character
change is drugs. Once he starts dealing and using heroine and cocaine, he immediately becomes a
jumpy and paranoid man, who is unable to keep his cool. His drug activities and incarceration lose
him the respect of Jimmy Conway and made man Paul Cicero, who he becomes in conflict with,
which makes him a marked man.
Setting
The film starts out in a predominantly Italian American neighbourhood in Brooklyn, New York in the
mid 1950s. The values that were held the highest at that time in place were family and money. The
film s other major setting is John F Kennedy Airport, which is the scene of many of the hijackings and
robberies that occur in the movie.
Themes
The two major themes in this movie is friendship and greed, and the two themes often come in conflict
with each other. The mafia is made up of a very select few individuals, who are together all the time
and don t affiliate with outsiders. This makes them grow strong bonds and develop friendships with
each other. According to Jimmy Conway, the two most important things to remember is to never rat on
your friends,

George W Bush Speech Summary
Speech Analysis: George W. Bush Address to the Nation. The morning of September 11th, 2001, four
attacks within the United States left our nation in complete shock. According to the Final Report of the
National Commission, More than 2,600 people died at the World Trade Center; 125 died at the
Pentagon; 256 died on the four planes. The death toll surpassed that at Pearl Harbor in December
1941. Although, I was only two years old, 9/11 had a huge impact on my childhood and is a defining
moment of my generation. President during this time was George W. Bush. As his duty, President
Bush had to give a speech to a nation that was terrified. That speech was dedicated to every American
suffering loss, fear, and despair. Rhetoric used in a speech gives the speaker logical, ethical, or
emotional appeal. President Bush does a great job grasping all the uses of rhetoric in his speech.
Readers, or in this case, viewers like to have a little more than just emotion and ethical point of views.
President Bush used this distinct example of logos in his speech:
Our military is powerful, and it s prepared. Our emergency teams are working in New York City and
Washington D.C. to help with local rescue efforts. Our first priority is to get help to those who have
been injured, and to take every precaution to protect our citizens at home and around the world from
further attacks. He used these examples to bring to attention that as a nation they were acting on the

Relationship Between Students And Academic Performance Of...
INTRODUCTION
The primary goal of the current research study was to investigate the relationship between students
participation in an online discussion forum and students overall academic performance in a hybrid
format graduate level science course. More specifically, our primary research question was: Does
students participation in an online discussion forum integrated into an open source course
management system improve students academic performance in a hybrid format graduate level
science course? In addition, our secondary research question was: How consistently can the results of
the current investigation be extrapolated to academic courses in other disciplines (i.e. arts, humanities,
law) and to academic courses at other academic levels (i.e. undergraduate, high school, middle
school)? To the best of our knowledge, the aforementioned are academically significant and, thus far
unanswered, research questions because previous research studies have yielded equivocal and, often
contradictory, results regarding this subject. To be specific, in their 2005 research article published in
the British Journal of Educational Technology, Davies and Graff investigated the relationship between
frequency of participation in an online discussion forum and academic performance, quantified via
final grades, of a sample of 122 undergraduate students at the University of Glamorgan, United
Kingdom. In conclusion, these researchers reported that underachieving students, the students

The Theory Of Science And Technology
Alan Gonzalez
5/6A
College Algebra
Science and technology is important to society and is often used in our everyday lives. We often have
no idea how science and technology really affect us. We work and live in a world driven by
technology and science. Science is crucial because it has helped form the world that we live in today.
Charles Robert Darwin was an English geologist and naturalist, best known for his significant addition
to the science of evolution. He had a theory that all species have inherited traits over time from
common ancestors, and in a partnership with Alfred Russel Wallace introduced his scientific theory
that this pattern of evolution resulted from an action that he called natural selection, in which the

The purpose of the trip was to take a five year survey trip around the world Commanded by Captain
Robert FitzRoy. The voyage would prove the opportunity of a lifetime for the Charles Robert Darwin.
The HMS Beagle set out on its voyage far and wide with Darwin on board on December 27, 1813.
Over the course of the excursion, Darwin recovered an assortment of characteristic examples,
including fossils, birds, and plants. Through extreme research, he had an exceptional opportunity to
watch the standards of topography, zoology, and natural science nearly. South America, The
Galapagos Archipelago, and The Pacific Island were of sure enthusiasm to Darwin. Charles Darwin
started to review his discoveries in the Diary of Examines, distributed as a component of Chief
FitzRoy s bigger report and later altered into the Zoology of the Voyage of the Beagle, once Darwin
came back to Britain in 1836. The voyage enormously affected Darwin s perspective of common
history. He started to grow a significant hypothesis about the start of living creatures that was inverse
to the famous perspective of different naturalists at once.
Darwin s involvement with examples across the world brought up vital issues. Different researchers
trusted that all species either appeared toward the beginning of the world, or were made after some
time in natural history. In either case, the species were accepted to stay much the same all through
time.

A Day At The Crocker Art Museum
A Day at the Crocker Art Museum
Having lived in the Sacramento area for the last 10 years, last weekend was my first trip to the
Crocker Art Museum. The museum was slow when we first got there around 10:00 am, but within an
hour it started to pick up. I did not expect much from a museum in Sacramento, I was thinking more
like gold rush memorabilia or Sutter household items. In short, I love the place. It is so much bigger
and with more art than I imagined. My favorite part of the museum was the old part and not the
modern side. I did not get the meaning of quite a few of the modern paintings, ok, all of them. One of
the modern Art s was just a shoe that was painted, my friend and I tried to figure out why this was
considered art and all we could come up with, is that it was an expensive shoe. I don t even know what
to say about a single Apple computer box, it had to represent something expensive because it was in a
glass lock box.

Endometrial Cancer Essay
Uterine cancer is an important women health problem developing rapidly, killing over 200,000 women
each year. No one has discovered the actual cause, but there is a leading factor that has great
suspicions to what is causing this cancer to grow rapidly.
The history of endometrial cancer is very vague, but there are a lot of factors and facts from previous
patients that need to be concerned. From the sources that I have research, there was not a definite
name that individuals could say discovered the cancer. Many scientists and doctors really do not talk
about the cancer. This cancer basically has the supported information of how it happens, where it
happens in the body, how can it be treated, and who to turn to when you need help. ... Show more

A woman who goes through menopause after the age of fifty two, which is called late menopause,
actually increases the number of years that the endometrium is exposed to estrogen. To all cancers
there are symptoms that may be long term or short term. In endometrial cancer, the most common
symptoms are abnormal bleeding from the vagina. Abnormal bleeding does happen in menopause,
which makes it harder to determine if something is wrong. During menopause the menstrual period
should become shorter and the frequency should become farther apart. If there were to be any
uncommon bleeding, it should be reported to a physician. Pelvic pain, swelling or lumps in the pelvic
area, and weight loss are symptoms that are less common and would indicate advanced cancer. The
staging system that is used for endometrial cancer was developed by international Federation of
Gynecology and Obstetrics. Staging is used to classify the cancer based on how extent the disease is.
In endometrial cancer, staging is mostly based on how far the main tumor has spread. There are four
stages as follows:
Stage I: The tumor is limited to the upper part of the uterus and has not spread to the surround lymph
nodes or other organs.
Stage IA: Tumor limited to the endometrium or less than one half of the myometrium.
Stage IB: Invasion equal to or more than one half the myometrium (middle layer of the uterine wall)
Stage II: Invasion

Parker s Back by Flannery O Connor
To the uninitiated, the significance of Flannery O Connor s Parker s Back can seem at once cold and
dispassionate, as well as almost absurdly stark and violent. Her short stories routinely end in
horrendous, freak fatalities or, at the very least, a character s emotional devastation. Flannery O
Connor is a Christian writer, and her work is message oriented, yet she is far too brilliant a stylist to
tip her hand; like all good writers, crass didacticism is abhorrent to her. Unlike some more cryptic
writers, O Connor was happy to discuss the conceptual and philosophical underpinnings of her stories,
and this candor is a godsend for the researcher that seeks to know what makes the writer tick.

For me, the most chilling aspect of the story is the description of a prophetic water stain above Asbury

Thematic Elements
This concept of displacement runs throughout O Connor s work, and it is essentially a displacement
from the world of the one true God, a theological displacement, although within the context of the
story it is more social, based on the nature of the freak s position in the society. Very often, the
grotesque elements of O Connor s stories are balanced out by anagogical ones. Again, the latter are not
specifically symbols, for symbols work contextually to represent interactive story elements, whereas
O Connor s anagogical elements are just there, they wander in and out of the action; they may have
symbolic significance, but it never comes directly into play as a plot element. Facing death is another
thematic element that recurs often in O Connor, for obvious reasons, both personal and religious. 23 O
Connor admits as much herself, in an essay in which she discusses A Good Man is Hard to Find : The
heroine of the story, the Grandmother, is in the most significant position life offers the Christian.
She is facing death. 24 This last quote speaks volumes; it is probably the single most significant and
telling remark the student of Flannery O Connor can have in his attempt to understand her work.
Clearly facing death as a Christian was the motivational engine that

The Theme Of Fear In The Garden Of Beast
Fear is so deeply embedded in the human genome, as a defense mechanism. It is so old it is coded into
the oldest part of the human nervous system. Throughout history, fear has been used to manipulate
whole populations into starting wars, revolts, genocides, and discrimination. Never has that been more
true than in Adolf Hitler s Germany, his rise led to the deadliest conflict in human history, World War
II. His consolidation of power and control over the people of Germany, can be attributed to using fear
as a weapon of manipulation. In the Garden of Beasts by Erik Larson, follows the first American

Imagine, that because of one decision that they make or not, determines if they are truly citizens, it
causes a fear that someone doesn t belong and it is a scary thought. This vote rigging is Larson taking
time to develop the setting of Germany, by showing the vice like grip that Hitler is developing on the
German people only about ten months after his ascension to chancellor. As Germany spirals into a
secret police state, people begin to worry about the omnipotent and all hearing ear of the Gestapo.
Larson shifts focus off of the Dodd s to give the reader insight into the atmosphere of Germany:
Germans grew reluctant to stay in communal ski lodges, fearing they might talk in their sleep (Larson
223). Larson makes this very plain, GErmans fear that whatever they say is being watched and
scrutinized by the government. This fear is so consuming, that Germans put off not only vacation to
ski lodges, but medical operations, as they fear they might speak negatively of Hitler while under
anesthesia. This paranoia of being caught for speaking and subsequently shot, is Larson deliberately
involving the reader in the affairs of Germany on the whole, and making the reader feel as if they too
are stuck in this dystopia. Later on Larson further develops the atmosphere of Berlin to further his
theme of fear. After a putsch of all of Germany of Nazi enemies, Dodd remarks on the tense
atmosphere in Germany, At a time when hundreds of men

Margaret Thatcher s achievements as Prime Minister in the years 1979 1990 were limited. Assess the
validity of the statement. Margaret Thatcher s political career has been one of the most remarkable of
modern times she served as British Prime Minister for more than eleven years (1979 90), a record
unmatched in the twentieth century. During her term of office she reshaped almost every aspect of
British politics, reviving the economy, reforming outdated institutions, and reinvigorating the nation s

Her economic policies were another success for Thatcher s regime. Thatcher s policies were
monumental changes for Britain. Privatisation and deregulation were famous changes implemented by
Thatcher. The policy of Privatisation has been called a crucial ingredient of Thatcherism . After the
1983 election the sale of state utilities accelerated; more than £29 billion was raised from the sale of
nationalised industries, and another £18 billion from the sale of council houses. The process of
privatisation, especially the preparation of nationalised industries for privatisation, was associated
with marked improvements in performance, particularly in terms of labour productivity. Some of the
privatised industries including gas, water, and electricity, were natural monopolies for which
privatisation involved little increase in competition. The privatisation allowed people to become more
involved in the buying of shares in companies. Although this did not work as well as Thatcher would
have hoped as many of the richer part of society bought as many shares at they could. Many people
denounced this policy as an Elitist policy. The privatisation of public companies was combined with
financial deregulation in an attempt to encourage economic growth. Geoffrey Howe Thatcher s

Microeconomics And Macroeconomics Of Microeconomics
Abstract
Economics is an enormous field. The term economics is the broader term, however within this, there
are additional fields such as microeconomics and macroeconomics. The difference between
microeconomics and macroeconomics is analogous to the human body and the individual cell that
makes up the human body. Macroeconomics is involved with the wide lens aspect of society. In other
words, macroeconomics focuses on the broader large scale economy of a society. Macroeconomics
focuses on larger economic issues such as national employment rates, gross domestic product, interest
rates, as well as currency exchange rates just to name a few examples. On the other hand,
microeconomics focuses more on the narrower lens of an economy. This approach focuses on the
individual businesses and customers as far as economic decisions are concerned. Specifically,
microeconomics studies the decision making process of the consumer. Microeconomics ask the
question, how do consumers spend their money? According to Investopedia (find source),
microeconomics is at the heart of consumer purchasing.
The Use of Utility in Microeconomics
The Impact of Key Economic Principles
Economics is a fascinating topic within our world. Pause and take a minute to look around. Assuming
you are not on a deserted island, everything you see is influenced by economics. The clothes you

The Effects Of Exercise On Body s Physical Condition
Exercise has been proven to have a positive effect on our body s physical condition, but what about
our minds? Mental exercise, too, is influential on our bodies to decrease our stress levels. Though, we
know how important it is to do physical exercise and manage stress, yet still 42% of adults say they
are not doing enough to manage their stress mentally
(http://www.apa.org/news/press/releases/stress/2014/highlights.aspx ). Research has shown stress puts
detrimental effects to our bodies and well being. The simple motivation to exercise, especially under
stress, can be difficult, but the ignorance to not exercise, can ultimately cost you your life.
How does stress affect us?
Stress negatively affects our bodies in a variety ways. Stress is a response our bodies have to a
stimulant. When you watch a scary movie, the reaction to the startling moment is an act of stress.
Though, stress is a normal bodily response, and Americans expect to have a little stress in their lives,
according to APA (define). Though, too much stress is not good for the human body.
When stress is experienced, a hormone called cortisol is released in the body. Cortisol is a stress
hormone that has a great impact on physical and mental health. Researchers have studied cortisol and
found that cortisol is responsible for making our body s cells stay young . If stressed, cortisol is used,
therefore stressing the immune system, weakening/aging our cells

It was a great experience to watch vice presidential debates as it was different from presidential

watched vice president debates after third presidential debate, I can say that topics were same. They
were discussing topics about immigration, Syria, Russia, economy and education. I did not like that
vice presidents interrupted each other a lot of times, but overall, it was a very cognitive and open
debate.
The first topic was about economic issues and vice president s views about our economy. The reporter
has asked the first question about their explanation of a fact that non partisan committees said neither
of their economic plans will reduce the national debt. Pence started by stating that he has done an
excellent job as a governor with balanced budget. Republicans plan is to cut taxes and improve the
education. They believe cutting taxes will help US economy to move again. Also, he has stated the
willingness of repealing Obama Care since it does not work as it is right now. According to Pence,
when they will get the economy growing, only after they can deal with the national debt. Kiane

manufacturing, investing in work force, making colleges debt free, promoting fairness, promoting
small business growth, and raising taxes. In my opinion, democrats already have a clear plan, on the

Marketing Planning Models
Assess the practical value of strategic marketing planning models to today s marketing managers.
The four P s are essential for any company wanting to implement the marketing concept, unfortunately
these tools only concern the operational side of an organisation (they identify the wants and needs of a
customer and then present them as a product). If a company wants to succeed and survive in the future
they must focus on marketing planning, this concept concentrates on where the company currently is
both internally and externally and the best way for long term progression.
Its purpose has been described by McDonald,(1989) as to find a systematic way of identifying a range

At this point the product starts to make some of the profit back, it becomes more established and ales

This leads onto the growth stage, profits rise considerably and the product becomes established, the
competition become aware and analyse the threat posed to them (the new Xbox). Competitors will try
to divert attention away which could effect the rate of the growth curve (Brassington, F S Pettitt, 2007,

emerged the supplier must now look at keeping them interested. If a product begins to date or tire a

profits will fall and the marketing or management will be to blame (the digital free view box).

Truth about Autonomous Cars Vehicles that drive themselves is a concept that is often thought about
in futuristic movies or science fiction novels. Throughout, history mankind has been fascinated with
robots and cars that could work without humans. Advanced technology is getting closer to making
these futuristic ideas the real thing. Living in an advanced technological time would society be ready

driverless car has become a very opinionated and sensitive topic. People often ask questions like What
if Google s car hit someone? Who would be at fault for the accident Google or the owner of the car?
These questions are currently being debated at the state and federal levels. As of right now states are
actively seeking to regulate autonomous cars much more than the federal government is. Currently

The invention of the Diesel engine changed the way people lived in the industrial revolution. It had
countless long term consequences both positive and negative. Firstly, the Diesel engine helped
businesses, and people selling goods flourish in their businesses. The engine not only helped the
selling and accessibility of goods in the short term, it also aided the economy in the long term. The
invention of the Diesel engine meant that goods were more accessible and money could be gained
quicker. The Diesel engine has some very terrible long term effects. Still today the diesel engine is one
of the biggest producers of pollution. Studies have shown that a Diesel engine emits four times more

Hip Hop, A Popular Genre Of Music
Hip Hop is a subcultural movement that formed in the early 1970s by African American, Caribbean
and Latino youths. It wasn t until the late 1980s that it became popular outside of the African
American community and by the 2000s it became the most popular genre of music. However, the
subculture has evolved through out the years and the comparison between then and now is growing
increasingly big. Hip Hop in the 80s consisted of music, dance, creativity and artistry. It also allowed
people an avenue to express themselves and deliver a sense of their surroundings and backgrounds
whether that was positive or negative. As well as this bringing communities together, it also drove
them apart as expressing yourself got competitive and with hip hop being a music form. People would
start to offend each other through lyrics, by pointing out disadvantages. This culture was now so
competitive that violence started to outbreak due to people taking it to serious and this brought so
much bad attention towards it, to be a rapper was basically classing yourself as a criminal.
Unfortunately, how most people remember hip hop may be distorted through the prevalence of
violence in the hip hop culture, whether heard in lyrics, seen from artists or in the media s
representation of artist beef. (Janeé, L. 2015) The fashion statement within this subculture was heavily
frowned upon due to its strong relation to gangs and how they dressed. It consisted of over sized

Role Of Pharmacy In Pharmacy
Pharmacy as a profession plays a very important part in the overall wellbeing of a patient. This is an
occupation that deals with the administration and pharmacology of medications. A pharmacist is part
of the team that ensures that a patient is nursed to full health, thereby improving the quality of life. I

impacting the health of people. I made this decision one summer after school just let out when I got

practice in Nigeria for people to self medicate with drugs like Paracetamol and Panadol. This is
because hospital bills are very expensive and treatment doesn t begin until payment is made.
Therefore, my mom administered these painkillers to me for the first couple of days although my
condition continued to worsen. Finally, we went to the hospital where I was diagnosed with typhoid
and directed to a pharmacist. A few days after taking the medications given to me by the pharmacist, I
started feeling better. This just goes to show that a doctor s job is incomplete without a pharmacist.

The Discovery Of The California Gold Rush
The discovery of the California Gold Rush took place by chance. Mainly the amount of the world s
gold is deep underground and embedded in hard rock. Unlike anywhere else in the world at that time
the gold in California was simple to dig up, free for the taking and required little tools to acquire any
gold. Only things required: a pick or shovel and a pan to shift out the gold from the rock, sand and
debris. The Gold Rush affected not only California, but the outcome of the nation. Creating the
expansion of our nation into Western America and California. Hundreds of thousand Americans and
foreigners moved toward the Sierra Nevada s, with the hopes of sticking it rich. Which impacted the
social life and the economy, while effected the rest of the country. Producing a number of diverse
people seeking to make a fortune, influenced California and the American life.

Antioxidant and Anti-Inflammatory Properties of Lunasin
Antioxidant and Anti inflammatory Properties of Lunasin:
Experimental, clinical and epidemiological studies have revealed that chronic inflammation is
involved in the development of approximately 15 20% of malignancies worldwide52, being clearly
associated with increased risk of cancer and cancer progression53. It is believed that persistent
inflammatory cells recruitment, repeated generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), pro
inflammatory mediators and continued proliferation of genomically unstable cells contribute to
neoplasic transformation which ultimately result in tumor invasion and metastasis54. Determination of
anti inflammatory and/or antioxidative properties has been proposed as a good indicator for screening
any anticancerous agents55,56. Oxidative stress and inflammation are two of the most critical factors
implicated in carcinogenesis and other degenerative disorders such as colon cancer and inflammatory
bowel diseases respectively. Hernandez Ledesma and co worker investigated how lunasin, affect these
factors. Lunasin inhibits linoleic acid oxidation and acts as 2, 20 azino bis (3 ethylbenzothiazoline 6

Many of the statistics shocked me and made me wonder about the future for our generation. As I
continued reading, I realized how much of the surveys and statistics that he used were deceptive and
manipulated my way of thinking. Bauerlein uses and abuses statistics to sway his readers thoughts to
what he believes is correct. Statistics are not as reliable as they may seem but the author did use valid
and trustworthy resources and organizations such as The National Board of Science. The argument
was very convincing and did make me wonder about the future for our generation and made me even
more worried about the next generation after mine. Overall, the argument was strong and well

1. In chapter two of The Dumbest Generation, Mark Bauerlein expands upon his stated conclusion
from the first chapter. He proclaims that one of the main reasons for the knowledge deficits of the
under thirty generation is a nationwide bibliophobia , which is a fear of books or rather the lack of
willingness to read.
2. The main evidence that Bauerlein gives us to support his theory is statistics that are found in a
survey that show the falling reading rates for people of all ages in the last 30 years. The most popular
survey was held by the National Endowment of the Arts Association entitled Survey of Public
Participation in the Arts.

Ptsd And Posttraumatic Stress Disorder
PTSD or Posttraumatic Stress Disorder is a growing concern with our returning soldiers. As
technology is advancing, battles are becoming more and more gruesome. The scars from defending
your country are not only physical. Some scars may not be visible, but are even more dangerous. The
trauma imbedded in these men and women s heads will cause pain for them and their entire family.
The dictionary definition of PTSD is a serious condition that can develop after a person has
experienced or witnessed a traumatic or terrifying event in which serious physical harm occurred or
was threatened. It has also been called battle fatigue or shell shock. It may be everlasting and it is
devastating to the person s mental health. Some of the more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The events seen by these brave people are what cause the terrible side effects. PTSD can be directly
correlated to what is viewed during battle. Fellow soldiers and friends are being brutally killed. It is
expected with war, but it takes a toll on the fighters. Constantly seeing death and serious injury can
leave one scared. The everyday sights for people who serve over seas in places like Iraq and
Afghanistan greatly improve the chances of them having PTSD effects after returning home. A study
was performed on Iraq/Afghanistan soldiers to see the effects of PTSD and how common it was in
these certain employments. The three following questions were looked at as the main focal points in
the research:
(1) How do the rates of PTSD among all active duty enlisted personnel differ by service and
deployment location?
(2) How do deployment location and length of deployment affect the probability of being diagnosed
with PTSD?
(3) Is there an interactive effect between a deployment s length and location? (Shen, Arkes, Kwan,
Tan, Williams, 2010). Previous studies have failed to see the comparison between PTSD rates and the
different services of employment. The research focused on active solders and the duration of their
specific enlistments. Two wars were the focal points of studies, which include Iraq and Afghanistan.
Said by Shen et al. (2010) Recent research suggests that the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, also

Describe The Relationship Between Eros And Philia
A fine line runs between a healthy, loving relationship, and a menial fling lacking the same respect and
commitment crucial to a meaningful partnership that fulfills the needs of the soul. While all human
desires are important aspect to address in a relationship, if the Greek ideals of Eros and Philia are at
war with one another rather than integrated together in a balanced manner. A relationship described,
without the balance between Eros and Philia, would not be one of romance, but instead one of either
unadulterated lust in the case of the focus being set on Eros, or simply platonic, without any passion if
the relationship is solely one of Philia (Moseley). Different kinds of love can also be defined by how

commitment combined are the components of the ideal relationship, however this model creates a total

The 1996 song released by the band Neutral Milk Hotel, Song Against Sex expresses the frustrated
sentiments experienced when the balance of a relationship lies almost solely in the intimacy vertex of
Sternberg s model, and is expressed predominantly through the passionate strifes of Eros and a neglect
of the compassion of Philia. The poet, Jeff Magnum, writes near the end of the song, when all the
pleasure points attacking all the looks of love were staged , which describes how a couple can appear
to be happy due to their physical needs being met. However when the emotional needs of a couple are
lacking, the relationship feels like a lie that you ve been given that just hurts you everyday , or in other
words the lack of love in a purely physical liason can leave members feeling hurt, used, and empty, a
very emotionally unhealthy situation for one to be

Staging Photojournalism In Believing Is Seeing
Staging Photojournalism Mostly the reason for staging a journalism photo is to get an idea across to
the person viewing it. The main reason for photojournalism is be able to capture a picture that can tell
the audience a story, and photographers have to figure out how to make their photos more interesting
to the viewer´s eye. Some may argue that the staging of the photo can change the meaning of it, which
is true. However, this depends on how a photographer decides to stages a photo. There are two ways
of staging that I see most often; moving an object that was already supposed to be in the photo around,
and adding or removing that object from the photo. Moving objects around to stage photojournalism
does not change the meaning of the photo as well as adding or removing the object. The meaning of
the photo means what the viewer sees and makes out of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The photographer, Ben Curtis, in chapter five of, Believing Is Seeing , makes it clear that he did not
create that scene himself, but rather he stumbled upon the Mickey Mouse toy lying on the ground and
decided to take photos of it (Morris p. 190). However, in a way, Curtis was staging the photo because
he had decided to snap a photo of not just the Mouse toy by itself, but also with the destruction of the
buildings in the background. During class, it was brought to our attention that the photo s meaning
would have been different if the Mickey Mouse had not been included in the photo. The Mouse brings
a sense of humanity to the photo. It gets the viewer to realize that there are humans in that area,
something that wouldn t have been accomplished if the Mouse would have been left out. The staging
technique that Curtis used to take the photo was the adding or removing the object technique. He
decided to have the toy take a part in his photography, and therefore giving the photo a bigger
meaning than if it did not have the

Pros And Cons Of Rational Choice Theory
Rational choice theory is a criminology theory designed by Derek Cornish and Ronald Clark which
states that before people commit a crime they think about what they are going to do (Snook, Dhami,
Kavanagh, 2011). They consider the pros and cons before performing the criminal action. The entire
premise of the rational choice theory is that each individual, regardless of whether rich, poor,
educated, or uneducated, all utilize rationality when making the decision to commit a crime (Taylor,
2013). The rational choice theory postulates that when a person weighs the costs and benefits of a
crime, that person decides whether or not the benefits are worth the risk. It is about maximizing his or
her own self interest (Jacques Wright, 2010). The

The Effect Of Cooling Capacity At Different Air Velocity...
5. Results and discussion
5.1 Cooling tower data
Figure 5.1 shows the plot of cooling capacity at different air velocity for a constant water flow rate.
Fig. 5.1: Cooling capacity at different air velocity for a constant water flow rate
From the graph, it is clear that the cooling capacity increases with increase in the air velocity. Also, at
higher water flow rate the cooling capacity is higher. This trend can be attributed to the fact that at
higher flow conditions, the convective heat transfer flux is higher resulting in a higher heat transfer
rate. The mass transfer is higher as the humid air is removed from the column at a much faster rate
owing to the high flow rates; this helps in stripping of water from the liquid phase. Higher mass
transfer would result in more energy being gained by air in the form on latent heat. The curve for
lowest water flow rate (28.9L/hr) shows the largest slope between the 2nd and 3rd data points. This
can be explained by the fact that the slow water flow rate results in a high residence time in the
column that provides air sufficient time to strip.
Figure 5.2 shows the plot of cooling coefficient at different air velocity for a constant water flow rate.
Fig. 5.2: Cooling coefficient at different air velocity for a constant water flow rate
From the graph, it is clear that the cooling coefficient increases with increase in the air velocity. The
reason behind this phenomenon can be attributed to the fact that at higher air velocity,

From an moral standpoint the IGRA was created to keep in check the ethics of gambling in casinos but we find that the IGRA does not create the greatest amount of utility for tribes, but restricts their rights and gives an unfair advantage to state government. The IGRA is unethical in regards to tribes operating casinos on reservations. Since the settlement of America, Native Americans have received the short end of the stick. Settlers continuously encroached upon Native American land, completely disregarding the fact the Indians were there first. After years of displacing the Indians and fighting with them, the government allotted reservations for the Indians to call their own. Now that tribes have been finally given a chance at economic development, many reservations have taken advantage of casinos to provide a better life for tribal members. Moral issues have been brought up, from government to non Native Americans. Even tribal members argue the moral issues. People who are fighting this are fighting it for a variety of reasons. It s just how it would change the whole community, the flavor. Having a 24 7 bright lights, honky tonk feel, it s just not what people want. Says Susie Dewberry, a Suislaw tribal member. Environmental Management System and Business Efficiency Environmental Management System and Business Efficiency A printing company has various environmental and environmental management issues to deal with. For Marks Printing Company, the main environmental and business concern is the volume of business and printed paper from the five year contract. The contract is awarded to the company on condition it has a proven commitment to environmental management. The expectation is the company has an operational environmental management system (EMS). Key concern for the contractor is the ability for Marks Company to manage and dispose the huge amounts of waste generated inform of paper, the recycling and use of recycled paper. This also includes the management and proper disposal of waste high in ink, since printing ink has heavy metals or oil products like the petroleum based printing ink. The third environmental concern is the management and disposal of sludge from pulp paper with de inked paper. This is with the removal of unused ink, waste paper, and contaminated waste, the storage of damping alcohol, solvents, liquid waste, and blanket wash at the car park, creating health, and safety concerns. Fourthly, the contractor expects the EMS plan to handle energy consumption, since printing companies are huge consumers of power. This is especially from the use of a 12 year old press, computer monitors using traditional CRT, and the installation of the conditioning and extraction system. • 4. Compare And Contrast Lenin And Stalin Lenin s search for obedient followers and hard workers would eventually lead him to Joseph Stalin. Stalin was courageous, rambunctious, bold, fierce, and determined. Stalin knew that in order to secure his place within the Bolsheviks, and move up the ranks, he needed to prove himself worthy to their cause. Stalin used these traits and put them to work gaining Lenin s admiration. What Stalin really excelled in was organization, something that the early Bolshevik party desperately needed. As Stalin s power began to grow, there was one person who dared speak out against it, Vladimir Lenin. After suffering a stroke in 1922, Lenin went into semi retirement. Stalin and Trotsky both became concerned with who would become his successor. Stalin and Lenin had a strong political relationship and Stalin would visit Lenin often to discuss the direction of Russia and the Soviet Union. However, one day Stalin cursed at Lenin s wife and Lenin was understandably very upset. This began the breaking down of their relationship. Lenin began heeding the warnings from Trotsky about Stalin s power hungry ways and he began keeping detailed notes of disapproval about Joseph Stalin. Although Lenin s Testament was meant to be a public account of Lenin s fears in terms of the Soviet Union under Stalin, Stalin had allied with Lev Kamanev, the acting Premier during Lenin s last year, and Grigori Zionoviev, head of the Comintern, and through their combined influence, they had suppressed the document from being revealed to the Twelfth Party Congress. Although these men did not truly agree with his policies, they did not want Trotsky to take over so they sided with Stalin to prevent that from happening. On January 21, 1924, Lenin died. Thanks to Kamanev and Zionoviev s influence, Lenin s Testament was again not made public but instead only read to the Thirteenth Party Congress. The Ieee On Indoor Li Fi Systems White Paper to the IEEE on Indoor Li Fi Systems Matthew Fultz ENGH 302 Due: 12/8/2016 Introduction In 2011, Herald Haas gave a Ted talk on light fidelity (Li Fi) and demonstrated a functional Li Fi system and spoke of the future of telecommunications (Haas, Harald). His lecture sparked a wave of research on bidirectional Li Fi that has given renewed hope for the internet of things (IoT). Kevin Ashton, an MIT graduate, first introduced the IoT when he gave a presentation on the goal in 1999 (Davenport, Thomas). Herald Haas, who is now owns a Li Fi company called pureLiFi, asserts that every luminaire in a trafficked area will serve as an access point (AP) for user devices (UD)(Haas, Harald). Since 2011, we have done a research on how to best implement Li Fi, but there is still much research to be done. With the tight congestion in the RF spectrum, we are forced to look for other wireless solutions. There are a few solutions, such as WiGig, but Li Fi has emerged as the fastest means of bidirectionally wirelessly transmitting information. There are many advantages and many drawbacks, but the more research we conduct, the closer we get to making Li Fi a widespread technology. The implementation of light fidelity (Li Fi) is the next step towards a world characterized by the Internet of Things (IoT) because it will enable faster communication, release pressure off of the RF spectrum, and increase network security. The place becomes increasingly familiar to me the green sign for Jesus In the Hills Camp, the brown sign for Leo Petroglyph, friends and relative s homes and as I navigate the slopes and curves that lead me back to my childhood home in Jackson, a pleasant nostalgia begins to take some of the tension out of the muscles around my neck and shoulders. After a decade of twisting and contorting myself into an unsuitable life in Christian ministry, I began to write and my attention turned back to my home, to that familiar landscape. I found the beauty in the cultural distinctiveness once taken for granted, even held in contempt. I had been fed, clothed and educated by money made from mining coal, and I am the product of a family that valued work and the love of the written word as a conduit for understanding and contextualizing our place in the world. And so, this is what I write about, the place and the people I know. Although I am not a Southern writer, I am drawn to writers from the South because of their distinctive voices and desire never to divorce characters from place. Their stories and characters struggle with the human condition generational poverty, extractive economies, and familial dysfunction in the same way that I witnessed people going about their lives in Jackson. Over the course of 22 years, spawning from 1973, with their first film Mean Streets, to 1995, with their most recent work Casino, the duo paired up for 8 movies, most of which are considered some of the greatest films of all time. The most notable, however, would have to be their 1990 movie Goodfellas, a classic film which was nominated for 6 oscars, winning one, and named the greatest film of all time by British film magazine Total Film, an organized crime movie which is one of my favorite movies. However, he realizes that he is too deep into it and can not walk away. Once he starts dealing and using heroine and cocaine, he immediately becomes a jumpy and paranoid man, who is unable to keep his cool. His drug activities and incarceration lose him the respect of Jimmy Conway and made man Paul Cicero, who he becomes in conflict with, which makes him a marked man. Setting The film starts out in a predominantly Italian American neighbourhood in Brooklyn, New York in the mid 1950s. The values that were held the highest at that time in place were family and money. The film s other major setting is John F Kennedy Airport, which is the scene of many of the hijackings and robberies that occur in the movie. Themes The two major themes in this movie is friendship and greed, and the two themes often come in conflict with each other. The morning of September 11th, 2001, four attacks within the United States left our nation in complete shock. According to the Final Report of the National Commission, More than 2,600 people died at the World Trade Center; 125 died at the Pentagon; 256 died on the four planes. The death toll surpassed that at Pearl Harbor in December 1941. Although, I was only two years old, 9/11 had a huge impact on my childhood and is a defining moment of my generation. President during this time was George W. Bush. As his duty, President Bush had to give a speech to a nation that was terrified. That speech was dedicated to every American suffering loss, fear, and despair. Rhetoric used in a speech gives the speaker logical, ethical, or emotional appeal. President Bush does a great job grasping all the uses of rhetoric in his speech. Readers, or in this case, viewers like to have a little more than just emotion and ethical point of views. President Bush used this distinct example of logos in his speech: Our military is powerful, and it s prepared. Our emergency teams are working in New York City and Washington D.C. to help with local rescue efforts. INTRODUCTION The primary goal of the current research study was to investigate the relationship between students participation in an online discussion forum and students overall academic performance in a hybrid format graduate level science course. More specifically, our primary research question was: Does students participation in an online discussion forum integrated into an open source course management system improve students academic performance in a hybrid format graduate level science course? In addition, our secondary research question was: How consistently can the results of the current investigation be extrapolated to academic courses in other disciplines (i.e. arts, humanities, law) and to academic courses at other academic levels (i.e. undergraduate, high school, middle school)? To the best of our knowledge, the aforementioned are academically significant and, thus far unanswered, research questions because previous research studies have yielded equivocal and, often contradictory, results regarding this subject. To be specific, in their 2005 research article published in the British Journal of Educational Technology, Davies and Graff investigated the relationship between frequency of participation in an online discussion forum and academic performance, quantified via final grades, of a sample of 122 undergraduate students at the University of Glamorgan, United Kingdom. In conclusion, these researchers reported that underachieving students, the students ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We often have no idea how science and technology really affect us. We work and live in a world driven by technology and science. Science is crucial because it has helped form the world that we live in today. Charles Robert Darwin was an English geologist and naturalist, best known for his significant addition to the science of evolution. He had a theory that all species have inherited traits over time from common ancestors, and in a partnership with Alfred Russel Wallace introduced his scientific theory that this pattern of evolution resulted from an action that he called natural selection, in which the struggle for ... Charles Darwin started to review his discoveries in the Diary of Examines, distributed as a component of Chief FitzRoy s bigger report and later altered into the Zoology of the Voyage of the Beagle, once Darwin came back to Britain in 1836. The voyage enormously affected Darwin s perspective of common history. He started to grow a significant hypothesis about the start of living creatures that was inverse to the famous perspective of different naturalists at once. Darwin s involvement with examples across the world brought up vital issues. Different researchers trusted that all species either appeared toward the beginning of the world, or were made after some time in natural history. • 20. A Day At The Crocker Art Museum A Day at the Crocker Art Museum Having lived in the Sacramento area for the last 10 years, last weekend was my first trip to the Crocker Art Museum. The museum was slow when we first got there around 10:00 am, but within an hour it started to pick up. I did not expect much from a museum in Sacramento, I was thinking more like gold rush memorabilia or Sutter household items. In short, I love the place. It is so much bigger and with more art than I imagined. My favorite part of the museum was the old part and not the modern side. I did not get the meaning of quite a few of the modern paintings, ok, all of them. One of the modern Art s was just a shoe that was painted, my friend and I tried to figure out why this was considered art and all we could come up with, is that it was an expensive shoe. I don t even know what to say about a single Apple computer box, it had to represent something expensive because it was in a glass lock box. I wanted to hear more about the story of the family, Judge, and Mrs. E. B. Crocker and how and why they were so generous with their artwork. We first started in the new part of the house, where the modern art is displayed, and then we proceeded to go to the older part, which is inside two old houses, so I loved seeing all the old architecture and walking through all the rooms imagine what it was like when people lived there. My favorite part of this whole visit was when, I was trying to find out how the museum acquired all this artwork and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

No one has discovered the actual cause, but there is a leading factor that has great suspicions to what is causing this cancer to grow rapidly. The history of endometrial cancer is very vague, but there are a lot of factors and facts from previous patients that need to be concerned. From the sources that I have research, there was not a definite name that individuals could say discovered the cancer. Many scientists and doctors really do not talk about the cancer. A woman who goes through menopause after the age of fifty two, which is called late menopause, actually increases the number of years that the endometrium is exposed to estrogen. To all cancers there are symptoms that may be long term or short term. In endometrial cancer, the most common symptoms are abnormal bleeding from the vagina. Abnormal bleeding does happen in menopause, which makes it harder to determine if something is wrong. During menopause the menstrual period should become shorter and the frequency should become farther apart. If there were to be any uncommon bleeding, it should be reported to a physician. Pelvic pain, swelling or lumps in the pelvic area, and weight loss are symptoms that are less common and would indicate advanced cancer. The staging system that is used for endometrial cancer was developed by international Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics. Staging is used to classify the cancer based on how extent the disease is. In endometrial cancer, staging is mostly based on how far the main tumor has spread. There are four stages as follows: Stage I: The tumor is limited to the upper part of the uterus and has not spread to the surround lymph nodes or other organs. Stage IA: Tumor limited to the endometrium or less than one half of the myometrium. Parker s Back by Flannery O Connor To the uninitiated, the significance of Flannery O Connor s Parker s Back can seem at once cold and dispassionate, as well as almost absurdly stark and violent. Her short stories routinely end in horrendous, freak fatalities or, at the very least, a character s emotional devastation. Flannery O Connor is a Christian writer, and her work is message oriented, yet she is far too brilliant a stylist to tip her hand; like all good writers, crass didacticism is abhorrent to her. Unlike some more cryptic writers, O Connor was happy to discuss the conceptual and philosophical underpinnings of her stories, and this candor is a godsend for the researcher that seeks to know what makes the writer tick. For me, the most chilling aspect of the story is the description of a prophetic water stain above Asbury s bed: Thematic Elements This concept of displacement runs throughout O Connor s work, and it is essentially a displacement from the world of the one true God, a theological displacement, although within the context of the story it is more social, based on the nature of the freak s position in the society. Very often, the grotesque elements of O Connor s stories are balanced out by anagogical ones. Again, the latter are not specifically symbols, for symbols work contextually to represent interactive story elements, whereas O Connor s anagogical elements are just there, they wander in and out of the action; they may have symbolic significance, but it never comes directly into play as a plot element. Facing death is another thematic element that recurs often in O Connor, for obvious reasons, both personal and religious. 23 O Connor admits as much herself, in an essay in which she discusses A Good Man is Hard to Find : The heroine of the story, the Grandmother, is in the most significant position life offers the Christian. The process of privatisation, especially the preparation of nationalised industries for privatisation, was associated with marked improvements in performance, particularly in terms of labour productivity. Some of the privatised industries including gas, water, and electricity, were natural monopolies for which privatisation involved little increase in competition. The term economics is the broader term, however within this, there are additional fields such as microeconomics and macroeconomics. The difference between microeconomics and macroeconomics is analogous to the human body and the individual cell that makes up the human body. Macroeconomics is involved with the wide lens aspect of society. In other words, macroeconomics focuses on the broader large scale economy of a society. Macroeconomics focuses on larger economic issues such as national employment rates, gross domestic product, interest rates, as well as currency exchange rates just to name a few examples. On the other hand, microeconomics focuses more on the narrower lens of an economy. This approach focuses on the individual businesses and customers as far as economic decisions are concerned. Specifically, microeconomics studies the decision making process of the consumer. Microeconomics ask the question, how do consumers spend their money? It wasn t until the late 1980s that it became popular outside of the African American community and by the 2000s it became the most popular genre of music. However, the subculture has evolved through out the years and the comparison between then and now is growing increasingly big. Hip Hop in the 80s consisted of music, dance, creativity and artistry. It also allowed people an avenue to express themselves and deliver a sense of their surroundings and backgrounds whether that was positive or negative. As well as this bringing communities together, it also drove them apart as expressing yourself got competitive and with hip hop being a music form. The act ends with all the Amazons gathered as a group, strike a pose that one would do in tae kwon do, and once again chase away the suitors (Josue201066, 2012). This act uses lighting that is red in color. Like their costumes, I believe that red symbolizes fierceness and strength. This act also uses rock music that is performed by the band to compliment this fast paced, high energy act. Personally, I love this act. Not only is it very intense, but all the skills performed by the acrobats are absolutely amazing. For instance, one of my favorite moments in the act is where Melanie does a flip from a bar while she stands on top of it and grabs back onto the bar, which sends the rest of her Amazon troupe into a their signature battle cry (Josue201066, 2012) . Another interesting act in the show is an act called Manipulation. Manipulation is a slow paced, yet intriguing act that is done ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Antioxidant and Anti-Inflammatory Properties of Lunasin Antioxidant and Anti inflammatory Properties of Lunasin: Experimental, clinical and epidemiological studies have revealed that chronic inflammation is involved in the development of approximately 15 20% of malignancies worldwide52, being clearly associated with increased risk of cancer and cancer progression53. It is believed that persistent inflammatory cells recruitment, repeated generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), pro inflammatory mediators and continued proliferation of genomically unstable cells contribute to neoplasic transformation which ultimately result in tumor invasion and metastasis54. Determination of anti inflammatory and/or antioxidative properties has been proposed as a good indicator for screening any anticancerous agents55,56. Oxidative stress and inflammation are two of the most critical factors implicated in carcinogenesis and other degenerative disorders such as colon cancer and inflammatory bowel diseases respectively. Hernandez Ledesma and co worker investigated how lunasin, affect these factors. Lunasin inhibits linoleic acid oxidation and acts as 2, 20 azino bis (3 ethylbenzothiazoline 6 sulfonic acid) (ABTS) diammonium salt radical scavenger. Furthermore, using Lipopolysaccharides (LPS) stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophages, lunasin reduced the production of ROS by LPS induced macrophages in a significant dose dependent manner. In chapter one of The Dumbest Generation, Mike Bauerlein makes several statements about our generation and comes to a conclusion that helps set the groundwork for the entire book. His analysis of today s youth states that the current generation is lacking when it comes to intellectual knowledge. He provides evidence that states that today s under thirty population in the United States does not have adequate knowledge, and their lack of knowledge with affect them greatly in their adulthood years. 2. As with most of this book, the main supports that Bauerlein uses for his conclusion come in the form of statistics. As chapter 1 progresses, he cites more and more surveys, polls, and studies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many of the statistics shocked me and made me wonder about the future for our generation. As I continued reading, I realized how much of the surveys and statistics that he used were deceptive and manipulated my way of thinking. Bauerlein uses and abuses statistics to sway his readers thoughts to what he believes is correct. Statistics are not as reliable as they may seem but the author did use valid and trustworthy resources and organizations such as The National Board of Science. The argument was very convincing and did make me wonder about the future for our generation and made me even more worried about the next generation after mine. Overall, the argument was strong and well planned. Chapter 2: 1. In chapter two of The Dumbest Generation, Mark Bauerlein expands upon his stated conclusion from the first chapter. He proclaims that one of the main reasons for the knowledge deficits of the under thirty generation is a nationwide bibliophobia , which is a fear of books or rather the lack of willingness to read. 2. The main evidence that Bauerlein gives us to support his theory is statistics that are found in a survey that show the falling reading rates for people of all ages in the last 30 years. The most popular survey was held by the National Endowment of the Arts Association entitled Survey of Public Participation in the Arts. A. As technology is advancing, battles are becoming more and more gruesome. The scars from defending your country are not only physical. Some scars may not be visible, but are even more dangerous. The trauma imbedded in these men and women s heads will cause pain for them and their entire family. The dictionary definition of PTSD is a serious condition that can develop after a person has experienced or witnessed a traumatic or terrifying event in which serious physical harm occurred or was threatened. The events seen by these brave people are what cause the terrible side effects. PTSD can be directly correlated to what is viewed during battle. Fellow soldiers and friends are being brutally killed. It is expected with war, but it takes a toll on the fighters. Constantly seeing death and serious injury can leave one scared. The everyday sights for people who serve over seas in places like Iraq and Afghanistan greatly improve the chances of them having PTSD effects after returning home. A study was performed on Iraq/Afghanistan soldiers to see the effects of PTSD and how common it was in these certain employments. The three following questions were looked at as the main focal points in the research: (1) How do the rates of PTSD among all active duty enlisted personnel differ by service and deployment location? (2) How do deployment location and length of deployment affect the probability of being diagnosed with PTSD? (3) Is there an interactive effect between a deployment s length and location? (Shen, Arkes, Kwan, Tan, Williams, 2010). Previous studies have failed to see the comparison between PTSD rates and the different services of employment. The research focused on active solders and the duration of their specific enlistments. Two wars were the focal points of studies, which include Iraq and Afghanistan. Said by Shen et al. • 47. Staging Photojournalism In Believing Is Seeing Staging Photojournalism Mostly the reason for staging a journalism photo is to get an idea across to the person viewing it. The main reason for photojournalism is be able to capture a picture that can tell the audience a story, and photographers have to figure out how to make their photos more interesting to the viewer´s eye. Some may argue that the staging of the photo can change the meaning of it, which is true. However, this depends on how a photographer decides to stages a photo. There are two ways of staging that I see most often; moving an object that was already supposed to be in the photo around, and adding or removing that object from the photo. Moving objects around to stage photojournalism does not change the meaning of the photo as well as adding or removing the object. However, in a way, Curtis was staging the photo because he had decided to snap a photo of not just the Mouse toy by itself, but also with the destruction of the buildings in the background. During class, it was brought to our attention that the photo s meaning would have been different if the Mickey Mouse had not been included in the photo. The Mouse brings a sense of humanity to the photo. It gets the viewer to realize that there are humans in that area, something that wouldn t have been accomplished if the Mouse would have been left out. • 48. Pros And Cons Of Rational Choice Theory Rational choice theory is a criminology theory designed by Derek Cornish and Ronald Clark which states that before people commit a crime they think about what they are going to do (Snook, Dhami, Kavanagh, 2011). They consider the pros and cons before performing the criminal action. The entire premise of the rational choice theory is that each individual, regardless of whether rich, poor, educated, or uneducated, all utilize rationality when making the decision to commit a crime (Taylor, 2013). The rational choice theory postulates that when a person weighs the costs and benefits of a crime, that person decides whether or not the benefits are worth the risk. It is about maximizing his or her own self interest (Jacques Wright, 2010). The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. The Effect Of Cooling Capacity At Different Air Velocity... 5. Results and discussion 5.1 Cooling tower data Figure 5.1 shows the plot of cooling capacity at different air velocity for a constant water flow rate. Fig. 5.1: Cooling capacity at different air velocity for a constant water flow rate From the graph, it is clear that the cooling capacity increases with increase in the air velocity. Also, at higher water flow rate the cooling capacity is higher. This trend can be attributed to the fact that at higher flow conditions, the convective heat transfer flux is higher resulting in a higher heat transfer rate. The mass transfer is higher as the humid air is removed from the column at a much faster rate owing to the high flow rates; this helps in stripping of water from the liquid phase. Higher mass transfer would result in more energy being gained by air in the form on latent heat. The curve for lowest water flow rate (28.9L/hr) shows the largest slope between the 2nd and 3rd data points. This can be explained by the fact that the slow water flow rate results in a high residence time in the column that provides air sufficient time to strip. Figure 5.2 shows the plot of cooling coefficient at different air velocity for a constant water flow rate. Fig. 5.2: Cooling coefficient at different air velocity for a constant water flow rate From the graph, it is clear that the cooling coefficient increases with increase in the air velocity.
