Technology In The Veldt And Marionettes
We live in a world where technology has impacted our daily lives and how we communicate with
friends and families around the world. Technology is improving and changing how we live our lives.!
In the short stories The Veldt, and Marionettes,. Inc, and in our everyday lives, I came to believe that
technology has a dangerous impact on our overall life. This is because in The Veldt, technology made
the house more of a mother, and in Marionettes,. Inc, technology took over his life and in our
everyday lives, we are consumed by what s on our screens.
In the short story, The Veldt , we come to believe that the main characters lives are all consumed by
technology because the house does everything. The impact of technology on the kid s lives began to
change how the kids looked towards their parents and what they meant to them. As I read the short
story The Veldt, the mother Lydia told us that: I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We have adapted to technology that we cannot live without it. As we continue to grow up, technology
is still improving, which means that we are more likely than ever to be attached to our devices. In the

their cars, which has caused a big impact of deaths and crashes all around Ontario. It is stated that,:
texting and driving makes an accident 23 times more likely. Also stated, smartphones are the most
common form of distraction for the driver. This is important to know because we live in a world that
revolves around technology, and it is important to know that technology is harmful to use. The impact
of texting and driver caused the Canadian government to make it illegal to use our phones while
driving because it was a major safety hazard on our roads and could cost someone s life. That is why I

Gender Roles And The Medias Influence On Gender

Thought Paper #1
Gender roles, sex roles and the medias influence on gender have always seemed to play a key role in
society. They define the outcomes for the men and woman that are growing up in today s age. men are
taught to be strong, willing and show no emotion. Meanwhile woman are taught to be beautiful, kind
and delicate. These concepts show that the over powering force of society and that the media have
immense control of how boys and girls grow up with a heavy burden to bare.
Gender roles are very strong chains to break, they define what is and isn t allowed. During the 2008
campaign trail senator Hillary Clinton was bombarded with various forms of verbal abuse. When
speaking to a crowd of her supporters a couple of men in the crowd began to chant a variety of
demeaning phrases at the former secretary of state. This form of actions shows that people aren t
accepting of different genders. The idea of gender roles being able to decide whether or not a
candidate is suitable ultimately based on what he/she identify as is a devastating blow to any feminist
movement in the world. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Benefits Of Dissecting A Cat
1. Introduction: What is dissection? Dissection is the process of disassembling and observing
something to determine its internal structure and as an aid to discerning the functions and relationships
of its components (Dissection). The term is most often used concerning the dissection of plants and
animals, including humans. Comparative anatomy is the investigation of similitudes and contrasts in
the life structures of various species. It is firmly identified with transformative science and phylogeny.
Comparative anatomy has gradually and long been utilized as evidence for evolution; it indicates that
various organisms share a common ancestor. Dissection of cats in an anatomy class is a common
occurrence and believed to be a great learning mechanism for students. Schools and education systems
utilize the availability of a cat because they are vertebrates and include a great amount of similarity in
structures as humans, as students learn the anatomy and physiology of the human body. Advantages of
dissecting a cat include a sensory factor that a visual study is unable to provide. A fact of being a
human is that a great many people recall things they can touch or work on accomplishing more than
they recollect data that they examined. By analyzing a creature in individual and touching it, the
material encounters can give a general, better learning background that may help them in future
classes if science or medical sciences will be examined. I hold the belief that the

The Rise of Islamic Fundamentalism in Iran Essay
The Rise of Islamic Fundamentalism in Iran
Over the course of the last century, the Islamic Republic of Iran (formerly known as Persia) has seen
colonialism, the end of a dynasty, the installation of a government by a foreign power, and just over
three decades ago, the popular uprising and a cleric led revolution. These events preceded what could
be considered the world s first Islamic state, as politics and fundamentalist religion are inextricably
linked in contemporary Iran. Looking at Iran from the mid 1940 s until the present day, one can trace
the path that led to the rise of fundamental Islam in Iran in three distinct periods. The first is that
which began with the rise of secular nationalism and the decline of Islam. In ... Show more content on

In a classic case of western countries meddling in the foreign affairs of a sovereign nation for their
own national interests, the American CIA and British intelligence conspired to topple the
democratically elected government in 1953. They succeeded in restoring the exiled Pahlavi dynasty to
power by installing Reza Shah Pahlavi s son, Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi as the Shah of Iran. After
taking office, Muhammad Reza Shah Pahlavi continued and expanded upon a policy of westernization
begun by his father and aggressively repressed Iran s fundamental Islamists to consolidate his power.
The Pahlavi dynasty s restoration fostered anger among the citizens, as Muhammad Reza Shah
Pahlavi was seen as a western puppet and therefore a more contemporary extension of the humiliating
colonialism endured at the hands of the west. Fostering women s rights, western dress, toleration of
alcohol and the suppression of Islamic customs, traditions and clothing all served to earn him the ire
of the general population and Islamic clerics. Milton Edwards (2006) referred to this accelerated
secularism (p. 37) as being part of the erosion of religious elements in Iran. Muhammad Reza Shah
Pahlavi thought himself loved by the people, but popular sentiment was against him; and completely

Huckleberry Finn Racist
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was viewed as a racist novel, however, it was not. Mark Twain
was criticized for the book, although it was a learning experience for the meaning behind it. The novel
was created to raise attention for slavery and racism, it was also a great novel. Since it was first
published, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn had attracted much controversy due to the use of
racial slurs in his writing which caused accusations that the author himself was racist, unfortunately
due to multiple issues, the novel was banned for a period of time. Samuel Clemens had made the story

called loyalty. The reward must ve crossed his mind and made him think twice about hiding a slave,
but instead he thought that Jim was more important. Jim really captured Huck s emotion in a way
where it would ve been hard for Jim to be the narrator and carry the same effect. It was weird to Jim
that Huck was willing to help him because Huck had a good life. He was brought up, educated, fed,
and dressed. These were what most kids back then didn t get. Jim was also Miss Watson s slave so he
worked for and around Huck. Furthermore, we can see that Huck wanted to turn in Jim on multiple
occasions. He was educated that every black person was at a lower level than him and that their
purpose was to make the white peoples lives easier. Pap also helped make the story much more
interesting, he helped Huck decide to run away and bump into Jim. It was a coincidence that they met
together, but we can easily see that Samuel Clemens has an eye for detail and made sure that
everything in the book had a purpose for

The Adoration Of Saints
The Adoration of Saints
Baroque is important in regards of European philosophical art history, generating identifiable and
stylistic changes in: painting, sculpture and architecture throughout the periods of the late sixteenth
century to the early eighteenth. Dominant particularly in the regions of southern Europe such as: Italy,
Spain, Portugal, Austria and southern Germany. Baroque is a stylistic movement that often
exaggerated motion to: illustrate drama, tension and grandeur features such as exaggerated lighting,
intense emotions, release from restraint, and even a kind of artistic sensationalism through various art
forms.
Baroque art did not really depict the life style of the people at that time; the era was rather intimately
integrated along the religious philosophies of the Catholic Counter Reformation: instituting a program
of restoration and a new way of living, in Europe and its colonies. Its popularity and success was
highly encouraged by the Catholic Church and was made as a responsive movement made by the
Council of Trent towards the Protestant Reformation the two differed: Protestant reformers wanted to
reassess doctrines such as justification and sweep away medieval practices such as the adoration of
saints.

After watching the video and witnessing some of the actions of the individuals I honestly was not

questions them and obey them completely. When the bounty hunter had pressured the individuals to
help him detain the woman in the blue jacket for her crime, they were reassured that he was an actual
bounty hunter by his fake badge. The pressure that bounty hunter had placed upon the individuals is a
clear example of social pressure. According to the textbook, many individuals tend to experience

Advantages Of Computer Invented Animation
Walt Disney animation
Hand drawn vs. Computerised
Walt Disney, a household name for kids and adults alike, the power house of kid s animation!
This was up till its last drawn animation of The Lion King in 1994, when other animators like Pixar
and DreamWorks came up with more modern computerised 3D films, such as Toy Story in 1995; Ants
in 1998 and Shrek in 2001. All these animations had box office success and all were computer
generated.
While Disney was producing hand drawn animation like Hercules, Brother Bear and Fantasia they
were falling behind and losing vast amounts of money. The fact that not one of these movies made it
into the top of the charts fuelled rumours that they might close down the animation section.

Poverty Of The United States Essay
More than 800 million people in the world are malnourished, 777 million of them are from the
developing world (Raphel, S., 2014). Poverty is an issue that must be addressed to the population loud
and clear or everyone will end up suffering. There are many families trying to survive and live from
paycheck to paycheck. Unfortunately, there are some families that are unable to support himself or
herself or any family member. One important key issue of poverty in the United States is inequality.
Many Americans blame the poor people for their own fate but you should never judge a book by its
cover. There can be many reasons why an individual or families end up in poverty. For example, low
wage jobs, discrimination and social inequality, vulnerability to natural disasters, war and political
instability. Another big issue we face today is child poverty. This is a very critical issue because these
young children are our future. If we let these children live in poverty, there is a higher chance they will
drop out of school, look for work in order to support their family, or give up in life. Children in
poverty are becoming the poorest age group in the United Sates. According to the National Center for
Children in Poverty (NCCP), a U.S. family of three living in deep poverty survives on an annual
income below $9,276, or less than $9.00 a day per family member. Unfortunately, children face many
difficulties in the United States living in deep poverty because they are not able to

Jean Pierre Corteggiani From The French Institute Of...
Jean Pierre Corteggiani from the French Institute of Oriental Archeology states that the Nile is
therefore life itself to Egypt. He said that the eastern part of the desert of Sahara would be nothing
without the water supplied by the Nile river. Water was life at the time of the ancient Egyptian
civilization. The source of life of this river comes from the mountains of Ethiopia, 2,000 kilometers
from the Delta. However, between the months of June to September when is storm season, the Nile
river overflows becoming a sea converting nearby cities into islands. Therefore, Egyptians tried to
keep a record of the Nile s first signs of overflow by building Nilometers to measure increases in the
water level. It took 10 years to control the annual overflowing. A thought of that time was that gods
spread blessings all over the river, since the banks of this river gave the pass to agriculture. As new
techniques were developed, so the ancient Egyptian civilization production increased as well.
Nonetheless, the Nile river became the natural route for traders. On the golden age of ancient
Egyptians, pharaohs ruled over those lands. Pharaohs were seen as a god. Touching a pharaoh could
have been punished with the death, since they were sacred. Under their commands, gigantic pyramids
were constructed. However, the logic of the edification of those pyramids and their builders are still a
mystery. All that is known is that the construction of the mausoleum required high technical

The Classic Treatise Evolution By Jay Gould
The late Stephen Jay Gould, a noted paleontologist who once described himself as an agnostic leaning
towards atheism, wrote the classic treatise Evolution as Fact and Theory for Discover magazine back
in 1981. His distinguished career and scientific achievements did earn him respect amongst his peers,
but to the general public he is best known for his popular science writings and, to smaller circles, as a
champion of evolution. As his treatise was written for a non academic, science themed magazine, a
basic understanding of science, and specifically evolutionary mechanics, was assumed of his audience.
The treatise itself is on the often overlapping distinction between theory and fact ; two words, he
asserts, that creationists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And, as colorful exchanges are far more entertaining than dry discourse, it also remains a source of his
popular appeal.
As for addressing fact versus theory, the two keywords in the titular treatise, he is slow to get to the
point. Over the next paragraph he asserts creationists, as a sweeping generalization, have presented not
a single new fact, and they have ...arguments that seemed kooky just a decade ago. This, with the
accusation that creationist s true motivations are political, along with the improper comparison of
scientific creationism to the Orwellian term newspeak, bears no relevance to the denotive differences
between fact and theory in any context. Also, his attacking an opposing stance, and failing to point out
any contradictions or fallacies therein, could be an indication that his own position lacks substance.
Of course Professor Gould s writings were rarely without substance. He does go on to point out two
creationist s argumentative fallacies and then, finally, he addresses the issue of fact versus theory. His
distinction, summed up both imperfectly and incompletely: a theory is comprised as a rigid, codified
series of explanations of the facts; therefore, the theory of evolution, a consistent explanation of the
recurring trends found in the fossil record, is in line with said facts. It is a

Dubliners By James Joyce s Dubliners
In James Joyce s Dubliners, the reader experiences the different lives of Dublin s inhabitants. Each
Dubliner has different problems, fears, hopes, and dreams, which allows culminates into many
different perspectives. Joyce masterfully writes the daily lives of these people without any
romanticism. The Dubliners stories are a small snippet into their full lives, while the reader does not
get the full story, he does not need to. Not much may seem to happen in the stories, but profound
themes and messages are hidden beneath the words. In the story An Encounter, a group of boys
imagine they are in the Wild West, while staging mock battles of cowboys vs. Indians. The story
includes many encounters that present themselves as ordinary; however this is far from true. In fact,
the story is largely commentating on often mocking Irish religious life and escapism. In the beginning
of the story one of the boys, Leo Dillon, is scolded by Father Butler for reading The Half Penny
Marvel. Father Butler considers the comic as nonsense and tells Leo that his Roman History is far
more cultured and important (Joyce 12). A religious figure like Father Butler is common among Joyce
s works, as he has always shown contempt for religion. In a sense, Father Butler creates structure for
the boys, but it is monotonous and rigid. Clearly Father Butler does not approve of Leo s fascinations
for the Wild West so he condemns him. The lack of support for imagination or freedom is snuffed out

To escape income tax returns these are famous as they are not susceptible to high tax rates on ordinary

What is a Foundation?
It can be said as a pool of money with a group of employees to invest that money and also give a part
of the pool to organizations with a set of objectives. Donated money is tax exemplary. To get tax free

Six Women Of Salem Book Review

K. Roach Marilynne K. Roach is a resident of Watertown, Massachusetts. She went on to graduate
with a BFA from MCA (Massachusetts College of Art) but she uniquely gives credit to the public
library systems for the rest of her education. This is very interesting to me because she says that
libraries are what she owes to her education to. Because of all the books she reads she later turns out
to be a great book writer herself. The library system really did impact Marilynne s life drastically. But
besides illustrating other writers work in history she also has written and illustrated many books of her
own, this including Six Women of Salem . Before I read this book, heard, or even much less
understood the history behind the Salem witch trails in my History or English classes, I really didn t

book extraordinary. First, her interesting style of writing skillfully strengthens the envelope of time in
the book. Second, Roach masterfully answers any questions the reader or I may have or had about
these Witch Trails. Third, K. Roach successfully illustrates to her readers the story of these horrid
trials. In the stories of the six women, Roach helps us grasp events of the trials in the conditions

Describe And Comparing The Chemical Functions Of DNAAnd DNA
DNA: Structure and Replication
1. Describe and compare the chemical compositions of DNA and RNA.
DNA and RNA are nucleic acids; they are characterized by being long chains that are called polymers,
from other units called nucleotides. With the DNA and RNA, it is expected to have a variety of
polynucleotide chains. The nucleotides are intertwined by means of covalent bonds between sugar of a
nucleotide and the phosphate of the next. This results in an ordered backbone pattern. As well as the
DNA as the RNA have purine nitrogenous bases adenine and guanine and the pyrimidine cytosine.
2. Describe the key features of the overall shape of a DNA molecule.
The main activities of the DNA are thymine, cytosine, adenine, guanine, and uracil. Thymine is like an
individual ring structure, it is an organic compound that descends from the pyrimidine family which is
one of the main constituents of deoxyribonucleic acid, thymine is replaced by the uracil nucleus base.
A cytosine is a fundamental unit of nucleic acids; it is the main nucleotide of leukemia and cancer.
Adenine is a purine base found in DNA and RNA. Adenine is a fundamental compound of adenine
nucleotides, adenosine form which is a nucleoside when the ribosome is filled. Guanine consists of a
pyrimidine imidazole fused ring system with double bonds. The uracil found in RNA is paired with
adenine and can also be replaced by thymine in DNA. In the body, the uracil helps to carry out the
synthesis of many enzymes that are

Health Care For The United States
Health care costs in the United States account for a large portion of the national expenditure.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), per capita national health
expenditures totaled $9,255 and total national health care expenditures totaled $2.9 trillion in 2013
(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2013).
Despite the substantial amount of money spent on health care in the United States, gaps existed in the
health insurance system that failed to provide adequate coverage to a significant proportion of the
population. The primary avenue for accessing health care is through health insurance; therefore, those
who lacked health insurance lacked access to health care. In an attempt to expand coverage to the ...

In 2013, annual premiums for individual coverage averaged $5,884 and $16,351 for family coverage.
This equated to workers spending $83/month for individual coverage and $380/month for family
coverage (Majerol et al., 2015). Despite the significant cost of health insurance for individuals and
their families, the cost of coverage offered was not linked to favorable health outcomes. This begs the
question: was it worth it for workers to spend their limited financial resources on health care
coverage?
Adults less than 65 years of age from low or moderate income families comprise the majority of
uninsured Americans because Medicare covers health insurance for elderly adults greater than age 65.
Furthermore, adults were more likely to lack health insurance than children because Medicaid and the

Are You John Jones Propaganda Analysis
The ability to influence a single person is something that almost all people are exposed to within their
life time. To influence someone through status of power can be easy. To influence someone through
persuasion is a skill. To persuade, most people would appeal to a logical, or emotional argument.
While the past two examples are on a personal level, it is possible to influence large groups of people
through status of power, or persuasion. Ultimately, persuasion is the best when a person has no direct
authority over a diverse group. An efficient and widely used tool of persuasion is propaganda. A
simple way to connect with propaganda is to think of commercials on TV. Propaganda and
commercials follow the same format for their creation and share many different ways of appealing to
large and diverse groups of people. Governments are also large producers of propaganda. You, John

War 2. This film uses multiple propaganda techniques to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

appealing to nationalism or patriotism (Nichols). This second form was shown through the daughter
whom was practicing her recitation of the Emancipation Proclamation when John arrived home from
work and again when he returned home from his watch. The initial recitation helped to establish
patriotic mood, while the end helped to reinforce the feeling of freedom Americans enjoy so much.

Analysis Of The Poem The Angel Of The House
The Angel in the House
During the Victorian Era in 1837 the period that was ruled by Queen Victoria I, women endured many
social disadvantages by living in a world entirely dominated by men. Around that time most women
had to be innocent, virtuous, dutiful and be ignorant of intellectual opinion. It was also a time
associated with prudishness and repression. Their sole window on the world would, of course, be her
husband. During this important era, the idea of the Angel in the House was developed by Coventry
Patmore and used to describe the ideal women who men longed. Throughout this period, women were
treated inferior to men and were destined to be the husbands Angel in the House .
The poem Coventry Patmore is written from the husband s point of view; Patmore even praises
women throughout the poem. His praise for women only relates to his ability to benefit men. Women
are part of the poem but she is not there to be heard. The reader is meant to see her through her
husband s eyes. Patmore considers women inferior to men and stated that their only purpose is to aid
their husbands. Yet, Patmore holds his angel wife up as a model for all women. Their objectification of
women was customary for extraordinarily complex age and is a consistent theme in Victorian poetry.
Education was not equal between the sexes and neither between the classes. Gentlemen were educated
at home until they were old enough to attend well known or lesser schools. A lady s schooling was

vision and artistic ability, making us understand and feel empathy toward his main character, Gregor.
Kafka uses a tremendous amount of symbolism and metaphors to get us to feel the mood in the story

Once Gregor is turned into this cockroach, his family is tested and fails to show the love and loyalty a
family should indeed give each other no matter what. That s when the empathy is at full throttle.
Gregor is completely rejected and abandoned by his family, not even a word spoken to him from the
people that pretended to love him and Kafka shows this truth that there is no such thing as
unconditional love. Gregor s family does not try to help him but instead they feel ashamed and try to
hide him. They do not think of his feelings or how much he has done for them, instead they want to
get rid of him, We must try to get rid of it (500) said the sister, She s right a thousand times over (500)

seemed like the perfect brother and son, supporting them financially and physically. Which gave me
this notion, Everything happens for a reason ; even though Gregor ends up dying he was killing
himself in the story as a human to feed, pay and give to his parents and his sister when they did not
even deserve it. His family could not function without him and when Gregor is turned they finally
have to shift to supporting themselves. Kafka shows such vulnerability to events way beyond our
control. The fact that Gregor becomes alienated from his family, isolated in this dark room and with
such mistreatment from the people who are

Advantage Of Using Computer Essay
Advantages of Using Computers
Computers obviously wouldn t be as popular as they are now if they did not offer advantages over
doing tasks manually. Some of these advantages are: Computers can perform calculations much more
quickly and accurately than humans. For example, modern computers can perform hundreds of
millions of calculations per second. Large amounts of data can be stored in a small amount of space.
For example, hundreds of pages worth of text can be stored on a 31⁄2inch floppy disk. Computers can
work continuously and perform repetitive tasks well. Unlike their human counterparts, computers do
not get bored or tired.

Computers have revolutionized businesses, relieving workers from the burden of calculating and
record keeping with pen and paper. While there are a few holdouts and computers in certain
businesses collect dust, the majority of businesses throughout the world use a computer in some
capacity.
Organization
The organizational skills of companies have improved substantially since the 1970s and 1980s due to
the use of computers. Years ago, most contact information between clients, including phone numbers
and addresses for mailing lists, were kept in files or a Rolodex, which made searching for information
time consuming.
Today, customer information is easily accessible and updatable and this is far from the only
organizational area that s been transformed by computers. Product information, inventory, and
descriptions for sales companies are uploaded to computers and placed into databases or on the
internet for easy access by customers. Business accounts and invoices are also kept on computers so
that a customer service representative is only a few clicks away from aiding clients.
Production
The all important area of production has also been greatly impacted by computer technology. The
viability of most businesses is linked to the ability to produce products quickly and effectively.
Computers aid in this process in a number of ways: * They allow for companies to make models of
products, such as cars,

Art And Acceptance Stemming From Adversity
Drag queens demand attention, from their over the top makeup, to the towering wigs they wear, when
they enter on stage, they have all the attention in the room. That attention has changed from horror, to
disgust, to appreciation in the past 200 years but the culture of drag queens has always stayed true to
being a community for men who do not fit into the mold of what is deemed normal. It has been a safe
haven and a family for those who do not have anywhere else. Through this culture we see strength, art
and acceptance stemming from adversity. Some key aspects of this culture, that help us understand it,
are the role drag queens play in the LGBTQ community, the language they use, their history, the
reason why gay men are attracted to this community and what they gain from it.
At its core, the culture of drag queens, as it is today, is centred around the performative act of their
shows. Their shows include men, usually gay, impersonating woman while lip synching and dancing .
Confusion may arise over the difference between crossdressing, transvestites and drag queens. The
important separation, as Jessica Strübel Scheiner describes, is that, The drag queen is a self identified
man who has no desire to live as a woman, nor become a woman , she explains that all drag queens
share, unquestionably strong emphasis on mocking hyperfemininity and ridiculing female gender
stereotypes . The way they impersonate woman is what makes them unique. They are not trying to
pass as a woman,

The Mission Statement And Core Values
While physical environment is crucial, the facility s origin, mission statement and core values are
equally as important. According to Ms. Andrew, Superior Residence was formed by a man named
Dennis Taylor in 1999. Ironically, Mr. Taylor s mother discovered she had dementia when she left
eggs on the stove and forgot about them eventually burning them. However no assisted living facility
met his standard of care and as a result, he decided to establish a decentralized company that focuses
on superior care and a quality lifestyle for seniors (Andrew, J., personal communication, October 28th,
2016). The company s mission statement is Building trust so that residents, families, and our team
have peace, and its four core values are integrity, service, efficiency, and the most important, fun
(Superior Residences , 2016). The mission statement shows was designed to provide comfort to
families because although they might not be able to cure or prevent the progression of their loved one
s dementia, they can provide them with peace and warmth in a comfortable environment. Moreover, in
regards to the core values, while the first three are somewhat basic, the last value, fun provides
patients and their families with a sense of hope. In Jill s words, they have fun morning, afternoon, and
night through lots of music and exercise. A truly heartfelt experience during the tour was when Jill

US MARKET REACTION
US Stocks took their deepest plunge in more than a year as fears grew that Europe s debt crisis could
spread around the world and undermine the U.S. economic recovery. The possibility has been brewing
for weeks, but analysts said some investors are just waking up to it.
The Dow Jones industrial average fell 376 points, its biggest point drop since February 2009. All the
major indexes were down well over 3 percent and are now showing losses for 2010. Interest rates fell
sharply in the Treasury market as investors once again sought the safety of U.S. government debt.
The number of people applying for unemployment benefits last week rose unexpectedly and the Greek
government s response to its debt crisis sparked new protests in Athens, but analysts said neither event
appeared to set off Thursday s selling.
They said more insvestors seemed to be grasping the possibility that the U.S. recovery could be in
jeopardy, and that many were realizing that the stock market s big rebound since March 2009

Essay about The Alternative Energy Source to Oil
The Alternative Energy Source to Oil
Introduction
1.0 Renewable Energy is the term used to describe those energy flows that occur naturally and
repeatedly in the environment, e.g. from the sun, wind and the oceans, and from plants and the fall of
water. It also refers to the energy available from wastes and to the emerging clean technology of fuel
cells.
There are wide ranges of renewable energy sources/technologies, varying in technical and commercial
viability. These include:
Solar Power (Photovoltaic)
Hydro electric Power
Hydrogen Fuel Cells
Geothermal
Wind Power
Nuclear Power

The exceptions are geothermal energy, and nuclear fission and fusion. Much of the world s required
energy can be supplied by solar power.
2.1 The first practical solar cell was developed at Bell Laboratories in 1954. With the advent of the
space program, Photovoltaic cells made from semi conductor grade silicon quickly became the power
source of choice for use on satellites. The systems were very reliable, and cost was of little concern. In
the early 1970s, the disruption of oil supplies to the industrialized world led to serious consideration of
Photovoltaic as a terrestrial power source. This application focused research attention on improving
performance, lowering costs and increasing reliability.
Due to the nature of solar energy, two components are required to have a functional solar energy
generator. These two components are a collector and a storage unit. The collector simply collects the
radiation that falls on it and converts a fraction of it to other forms of energy (either electricity and
heat or heat alone). The storage unit is required because of the non constant nature of solar energy; at
certain times only a very small amount of radiation will be received. The storage unit can hold the
excess energy produced during the periods of maximum productivity, and release it when the
productivity drops. In practice, a backup power supply is added, too,

The Importance Of Journalism
Journalism plays a major role in aiding democracy and helping it function. It can shape the way we
view policies or how we view a particular candidate. Unfortunately, this can be sometimes forgotten
or overlooked in the midst of partisan debate, government shutdowns and the new insurgence of fake
news . If we were able to put the absurdity of these issues to the side and focus on the real impact of
true raw journalism, we can open our eyes and mind to the impact news has on all our political views.

The case was also similar when an investigative reporter revealed the conditions at a factory in China
producing the lovely Apple products we all seem to not be able to function without or live. An
investigative report revealed the harsh, at times deadly conditions under which Chinese workers
assembling iPhones and iPads live and work; the low pay and high turnover at Apple s retail stores;
the lengths to which Apple went to reduce its tax bill, and the shortsightedness of its conclusion that
Apples couldn t be manufactured in America (Duhigg) The finds by this investigative report caused
outrage and backlash on the Chinese and Apple from its loyal customers. This would eventually cause
an increase in wages for factory workers and better working conditions. Workers within these factories

dollar investment in the US jobs was years later, the real winner was the Chinese workers who now

aerodynamic, phonatory, and resonatory/articulatory adjustments. Singers are often trained to onset

by a voice teacher to approach an ideal voice quality for a specific genre (e.g. opera, belt, etc.). We

According to the Bear Flag Museum, the design and creation of the original Bear used in the Bear
Flag Revolt are often credited to William L. Todd. He was the cousin or nephew of Mary Todd
Lincoln, wife of future American president Abraham Lincoln. Todd has acknowledged the
contributions of other painters to the flag, including Peter Storm and Granville P. Swift. He was
painted the flag on domestic cotton cloth, roughly a yard and a half in length. The flag featured a red
star based on the California Lone Star Flag that was flown during California s 1836 revolt. In addition,
the flag that was created was a white field with a red stripe at the bottom edge, with a star in the upper
left corner and a grizzly bear. The flag soon came to be called the Bear Flag and the insurgency came
to be called the Bear Flag Revolt. The men of the Revolt were named the Bear Flaggers. In 1909, the
Native Sons adopted a resolution at their annual convention to promote the State of California
adopting the Bear Flag as the first State Flag. Two years later, these events came to fruition and on
February 3, 1911 the Bear Flag became California s State flag at the signing of State Senate Bill 291
by Governor Hiram Johnson. As you can see, the Bear Flag has remained the California Flag since

  • 3. Gender Roles And The Medias Influence On Gender Jared Magnone CDFS 112 September 2017 Professor Schiber Thought Paper #1 Gender roles, sex roles and the medias influence on gender have always seemed to play a key role in society. They define the outcomes for the men and woman that are growing up in today s age. men are taught to be strong, willing and show no emotion. Meanwhile woman are taught to be beautiful, kind and delicate. These concepts show that the over powering force of society and that the media have immense control of how boys and girls grow up with a heavy burden to bare. Gender roles are very strong chains to break, they define what is and isn t allowed. During the 2008 campaign trail senator Hillary Clinton was bombarded with various forms of verbal abuse. When speaking to a crowd of her supporters a couple of men in the crowd began to chant a variety of demeaning phrases at the former secretary of state. This form of actions shows that people aren t accepting of different genders. The idea of gender roles being able to decide whether or not a candidate is suitable ultimately based on what he/she identify as is a devastating blow to any feminist movement in the world. ... • 4. Benefits Of Dissecting A Cat 1. Introduction: What is dissection? Dissection is the process of disassembling and observing something to determine its internal structure and as an aid to discerning the functions and relationships of its components (Dissection). The term is most often used concerning the dissection of plants and animals, including humans. Comparative anatomy is the investigation of similitudes and contrasts in the life structures of various species. It is firmly identified with transformative science and phylogeny. Comparative anatomy has gradually and long been utilized as evidence for evolution; it indicates that various organisms share a common ancestor. Dissection of cats in an anatomy class is a common occurrence and believed to be a great learning mechanism for students. Schools and education systems utilize the availability of a cat because they are vertebrates and include a great amount of similarity in structures as humans, as students learn the anatomy and physiology of the human body. Advantages of dissecting a cat include a sensory factor that a visual study is unable to provide. A fact of being a human is that a great many people recall things they can touch or work on accomplishing more than they recollect data that they examined. By analyzing a creature in individual and touching it, the material encounters can give a general, better learning background that may help them in future classes if science or medical sciences will be examined. • 5. The Rise of Islamic Fundamentalism in Iran Essay The Rise of Islamic Fundamentalism in Iran Over the course of the last century, the Islamic Republic of Iran (formerly known as Persia) has seen colonialism, the end of a dynasty, the installation of a government by a foreign power, and just over three decades ago, the popular uprising and a cleric led revolution. These events preceded what could be considered the world s first Islamic state, as politics and fundamentalist religion are inextricably linked in contemporary Iran. Looking at Iran from the mid 1940 s until the present day, one can trace the path that led to the rise of fundamental Islam in Iran in three distinct periods. The first is that which began with the rise of secular nationalism and the decline of Islam. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a classic case of western countries meddling in the foreign affairs of a sovereign nation for their own national interests, the American CIA and British intelligence conspired to topple the democratically elected government in 1953. They succeeded in restoring the exiled Pahlavi dynasty to power by installing Reza Shah Pahlavi s son, Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi as the Shah of Iran. After taking office, Muhammad Reza Shah Pahlavi continued and expanded upon a policy of westernization begun by his father and aggressively repressed Iran s fundamental Islamists to consolidate his power. The Pahlavi dynasty s restoration fostered anger among the citizens, as Muhammad Reza Shah Pahlavi was seen as a western puppet and therefore a more contemporary extension of the humiliating colonialism endured at the hands of the west. Fostering women s rights, western dress, toleration of alcohol and the suppression of Islamic customs, traditions and clothing all served to earn him the ire of the general population and Islamic clerics. Milton Edwards (2006) referred to this accelerated secularism (p. 37) as being part of the erosion of religious elements in Iran. Muhammad Reza Shah Pahlavi thought himself loved by the people, but popular sentiment was against him; and completely behind an exiled Iranian cleric living in Paris named Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. Mark Twain was criticized for the book, although it was a learning experience for the meaning behind it. The novel was created to raise attention for slavery and racism, it was also a great novel. Since it was first published, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn had attracted much controversy due to the use of racial slurs in his writing which caused accusations that the author himself was racist, unfortunately due to multiple issues, the novel was banned for a period of time. The reward must ve crossed his mind and made him think twice about hiding a slave, but instead he thought that Jim was more important. Jim really captured Huck s emotion in a way where it would ve been hard for Jim to be the narrator and carry the same effect. It was weird to Jim that Huck was willing to help him because Huck had a good life. He was brought up, educated, fed, and dressed. These were what most kids back then didn t get. Jim was also Miss Watson s slave so he worked for and around Huck. Furthermore, we can see that Huck wanted to turn in Jim on multiple occasions. He was educated that every black person was at a lower level than him and that their purpose was to make the white peoples lives easier. Pap also helped make the story much more interesting, he helped Huck decide to run away and bump into Jim. • 12. Poverty Of The United States Essay More than 800 million people in the world are malnourished, 777 million of them are from the developing world (Raphel, S., 2014). Poverty is an issue that must be addressed to the population loud and clear or everyone will end up suffering. There are many families trying to survive and live from paycheck to paycheck. Unfortunately, there are some families that are unable to support himself or herself or any family member. One important key issue of poverty in the United States is inequality. Many Americans blame the poor people for their own fate but you should never judge a book by its cover. There can be many reasons why an individual or families end up in poverty. For example, low wage jobs, discrimination and social inequality, vulnerability to natural disasters, war and political instability. Another big issue we face today is child poverty. This is a very critical issue because these young children are our future. • 13. Jean Pierre Corteggiani From The French Institute Of... Jean Pierre Corteggiani from the French Institute of Oriental Archeology states that the Nile is therefore life itself to Egypt. He said that the eastern part of the desert of Sahara would be nothing without the water supplied by the Nile river. Water was life at the time of the ancient Egyptian civilization. The source of life of this river comes from the mountains of Ethiopia, 2,000 kilometers from the Delta. However, between the months of June to September when is storm season, the Nile river overflows becoming a sea converting nearby cities into islands. Therefore, Egyptians tried to keep a record of the Nile s first signs of overflow by building Nilometers to measure increases in the water level. It took 10 years to control the annual overflowing. A thought of that time was that gods spread blessings all over the river, since the banks of this river gave the pass to agriculture. As new techniques were developed, so the ancient Egyptian civilization production increased as well. Nonetheless, the Nile river became the natural route for traders. On the golden age of ancient Egyptians, pharaohs ruled over those lands. Pharaohs were seen as a god. Touching a pharaoh could have been punished with the death, since they were sacred. Under their commands, gigantic pyramids were constructed. However, the logic of the edification of those pyramids and their builders are still a mystery. All that is known is that the construction of the mausoleum required high technical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. The Classic Treatise Evolution By Jay Gould The late Stephen Jay Gould, a noted paleontologist who once described himself as an agnostic leaning towards atheism, wrote the classic treatise Evolution as Fact and Theory for Discover magazine back in 1981. His distinguished career and scientific achievements did earn him respect amongst his peers, but to the general public he is best known for his popular science writings and, to smaller circles, as a champion of evolution. As his treatise was written for a non academic, science themed magazine, a basic understanding of science, and specifically evolutionary mechanics, was assumed of his audience. And, as colorful exchanges are far more entertaining than dry discourse, it also remains a source of his popular appeal. As for addressing fact versus theory, the two keywords in the titular treatise, he is slow to get to the point. Over the next paragraph he asserts creationists, as a sweeping generalization, have presented not a single new fact, and they have ...arguments that seemed kooky just a decade ago. This, with the accusation that creationist s true motivations are political, along with the improper comparison of scientific creationism to the Orwellian term newspeak, bears no relevance to the denotive differences between fact and theory in any context. Also, his attacking an opposing stance, and failing to point out any contradictions or fallacies therein, could be an indication that his own position lacks substance. Of course Professor Gould s writings were rarely without substance. He does go on to point out two creationist s argumentative fallacies and then, finally, he addresses the issue of fact versus theory. His distinction, summed up both imperfectly and incompletely: a theory is comprised as a rigid, codified series of explanations of the facts; therefore, the theory of evolution, a consistent explanation of the recurring trends found in the fossil record, is in line with said facts. Joyce masterfully writes the daily lives of these people without any romanticism. The Dubliners stories are a small snippet into their full lives, while the reader does not get the full story, he does not need to. Not much may seem to happen in the stories, but profound themes and messages are hidden beneath the words. In the story An Encounter, a group of boys imagine they are in the Wild West, while staging mock battles of cowboys vs. Indians. The story includes many encounters that present themselves as ordinary; however this is far from true. In fact, the story is largely commentating on often mocking Irish religious life and escapism. In the beginning of the story one of the boys, Leo Dillon, is scolded by Father Butler for reading The Half Penny Marvel. Father Butler considers the comic as nonsense and tells Leo that his Roman History is far more cultured and important (Joyce 12). A religious figure like Father Butler is common among Joyce s works, as he has always shown contempt for religion. In a sense, Father Butler creates structure for the boys, but it is monotonous and rigid. Clearly Father Butler does not approve of Leo s fascinations for the Wild West so he condemns him. DNA and RNA are nucleic acids; they are characterized by being long chains that are called polymers, from other units called nucleotides. With the DNA and RNA, it is expected to have a variety of polynucleotide chains. The nucleotides are intertwined by means of covalent bonds between sugar of a nucleotide and the phosphate of the next. This results in an ordered backbone pattern. As well as the DNA as the RNA have purine nitrogenous bases adenine and guanine and the pyrimidine cytosine. 2. Describe the key features of the overall shape of a DNA molecule. Fitch Ratings said investors are deeply skeptical about the ability of governments to get a handle on their huge debt burdens. ``While the package of measures announced will moderate euro area governments vulnerability to confidence shocks and extreme market volatility, investor confidence will remain fragile until European governments, including the UK, are seen to be delivering on fiscal consolidation and the economic recovery is secured, US MARKET REACTION US Stocks took their deepest plunge in more than a year as fears grew that Europe s debt crisis could spread around the world and undermine the U.S. economic recovery. The possibility has been brewing for weeks, but analysts said some investors are just waking up to it. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 376 points, its biggest point drop since February 2009. All the major indexes were down well over 3 percent and are now showing losses for 2010. Interest rates fell sharply in the Treasury market as investors once again sought the safety of U.S. government debt. The number of people applying for unemployment benefits last week rose unexpectedly and the Greek government s response to its debt crisis sparked new protests in Athens, but analysts said neither event appeared to set off Thursday s selling. They said more insvestors seemed to be grasping the possibility that the U.S. recovery could be in jeopardy, and that many were realizing that the stock market s big rebound since March 2009 ... • 35. Essay about The Alternative Energy Source to Oil The Alternative Energy Source to Oil Introduction 1.0 Renewable Energy is the term used to describe those energy flows that occur naturally and repeatedly in the environment, e.g. from the sun, wind and the oceans, and from plants and the fall of water. It also refers to the energy available from wastes and to the emerging clean technology of fuel cells. There are wide ranges of renewable energy sources/technologies, varying in technical and commercial viability. These include: Solar Power (Photovoltaic) Hydro electric Power Hydrogen Fuel Cells Geothermal Wind Power Nuclear Power 1.1 The modern drive to harness renewable energy began in the 1970 s. It was promoted by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The exceptions are geothermal energy, and nuclear fission and fusion. Much of the world s required energy can be supplied by solar power. 2.1 The first practical solar cell was developed at Bell Laboratories in 1954. With the advent of the space program, Photovoltaic cells made from semi conductor grade silicon quickly became the power source of choice for use on satellites. The systems were very reliable, and cost was of little concern. In the early 1970s, the disruption of oil supplies to the industrialized world led to serious consideration of Photovoltaic as a terrestrial power source. This application focused research attention on improving performance, lowering costs and increasing reliability. Due to the nature of solar energy, two components are required to have a functional solar energy generator. These two components are a collector and a storage unit. The collector simply collects the radiation that falls on it and converts a fraction of it to other forms of energy (either electricity and heat or heat alone). The storage unit is required because of the non constant nature of solar energy; at certain times only a very small amount of radiation will be received. The storage unit can hold the excess energy produced during the periods of maximum productivity, and release it when the productivity drops. In practice, a backup power supply is added, too,

  • 37. The Importance Of Journalism Journalism plays a major role in aiding democracy and helping it function. It can shape the way we view policies or how we view a particular candidate. Unfortunately, this can be sometimes forgotten or overlooked in the midst of partisan debate, government shutdowns and the new insurgence of fake news . If we were able to put the absurdity of these issues to the side and focus on the real impact of true raw journalism, we can open our eyes and mind to the impact news has on all our political views. Let us look at the impact and effects that journalism is currently having on last year s election and the political climate around the world. One could say that journalism provides the public with governmental transparency and provides checks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So, without the help of an investigative journalist this would have never been known to the public and would have never caused chance in school policies. The case was also similar when an investigative reporter revealed the conditions at a factory in China producing the lovely Apple products we all seem to not be able to function without or live. An investigative report revealed the harsh, at times deadly conditions under which Chinese workers assembling iPhones and iPads live and work; the low pay and high turnover at Apple s retail stores; the lengths to which Apple went to reduce its tax bill, and the shortsightedness of its conclusion that Apples couldn t be manufactured in America (Duhigg) The finds by this investigative report caused outrage and backlash on the Chinese and Apple from its loyal customers. This would eventually cause an increase in wages for factory workers and better working conditions. Workers within these factories begin to have rights and were no longer being treated as cheap labor. , asked competitors to help curb excessive overtime in China, and reached out to advocacy groups it once rebuffed. It publicly identified its suppliers for the first time. Apple also announced after the scandal that it would invest $100 million to manufacture some computers in the United States (Spaeth). Although the $100 million dollar investment in the US jobs was years later, the real winner was the Chinese workers who now were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Professional Singers Enhanced Voice Quality As a result of training, professional singers enhanced voice quality may be related to respiratory, aerodynamic, phonatory, and resonatory/articulatory adjustments. Singers are often trained to onset voicing at varying lung volumes (LVs) to produce voice qualities that are both perceptually pleasing and aerodynamically efficient. The goal of most professional vocal training is determined perceptually by a voice teacher to approach an ideal voice quality for a specific genre (e.g. opera, belt, etc.). We examined the effects of training and task difficulty on physiological vocal behaviors and cortical activation patterns in untrained singers and freshman vocal performance and vocal education students (vocal students) before and after their ... We tested the hypothesis that as initial LV increases, integrated airflow, PI, VOT, and AMCI will increase in pre trained vocal students and untrained singers. In the second manuscript we examined the effects of vocal performance training on voice onset coordination at different LVs in vocal students. We tested the hypotheses that aerodynamic and temporal measurements will be less variable and show decreased change between high and low LVs in the initial voice onset after the first semester of training in first year vocal students as compared to untrained ... • 39. California Grizzly Bear Meaning As a Californian, perhaps we are biased, but California really has one of the best state symbols the grizzly bear, yes? The California grizzly bear is our state animal and forever trudging along. And that is the subject of my public art assignment. In my opinion, it is the most symbolic public art located at the state fair in Sacramento region. When we take a look on the state flag, the grizzly bear also is the image of our state flag. But why a bear? Why the state would choose a bear? What is the meaning behind this public art of bear? What was the purpose? Where did it come from? Does it have a name? For California, everyone has a bear story and here is a brief history of the California Grizzly through the story of the state flag and its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the Bear Flag Museum, the design and creation of the original Bear used in the Bear Flag Revolt are often credited to William L. Todd. He was the cousin or nephew of Mary Todd Lincoln, wife of future American president Abraham Lincoln. Todd has acknowledged the contributions of other painters to the flag, including Peter Storm and Granville P. Swift. He was painted the flag on domestic cotton cloth, roughly a yard and a half in length. The flag featured a red star based on the California Lone Star Flag that was flown during California s 1836 revolt. In addition, the flag that was created was a white field with a red stripe at the bottom edge, with a star in the upper left corner and a grizzly bear. The flag soon came to be called the Bear Flag and the insurgency came to be called the Bear Flag Revolt. The men of the Revolt were named the Bear Flaggers. In 1909, the Native Sons adopted a resolution at their annual convention to promote the State of California adopting the Bear Flag as the first State Flag. Two years later, these events came to fruition and on February 3, 1911 the Bear Flag became California s State flag at the signing of State Senate Bill 291 by Governor Hiram Johnson. As you can see, the Bear Flag has remained the California Flag since that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
