How Did Bernard Madoff Create A Ponzi Scheme
I think Bernard Madoff engaged in creating a Ponzi scheme because of greed. His unethical behavior
was based on white collar crime (Ferrell, Fraedrich, Ferrell, 2013). Mr. Madoff met the characteristics
of a white collar criminal. The characteristics consist of people who are highly educated and
considered as reliable among their subordinates and peers. They are usually in an executive position
that would give them the power to commit their crimes to their company, employees, and investors
(Ferrell, et al, 2013). Mr. Madoff s Ponzi scheme took careful coordinating and preparation to last as
long as it did and to become the largest Ponzi scheme in history. He used his greed to entice the greed
of his investors by offering them unrealistic

Women Are Not Born But Made
Women are not born but made. Nowadays we celebrate women s day but there are many situations we
had come through to this position and space Punjabi women occupy nowadays, and comparing it to
the times 60 years ago. The age of my grandmother. When the country had just got independence.
When the women are participating in nationalist movements were being pushed into the domestic
household works.
There have been innumerable debates about gender in (Banerjee 2012) Punjab over last 60 years.
Most of them were about women s positions in society, their education, health, economic status,
gender equality. What we can conclude from these discussions is that how women have always held a
certain contradictory position in our developing country in past years. In recent years women held a
very less respectful position . they were not treated as human. On other hand, Punjab has an increased
percentage of literacy among women . now women are allowed to enter into professional fields now.
However, in the 1950s my grandmother tells women were just made to do household chores. They
were not allowed to get higher education or even go out without the permission of parents. They were
supposed to be at home . while on the other hand the practices of female foeticide, poor health
conditions and lack of education persisting still continue. Even the supportive ideology of the home
being women s real domain and marriage being her ultimate destiny has not changed much in last 60
years.

Adolescence And The Menstrual Cycle
INTRODUCTION The word adolescence is derived from a Latin Word adolescere which means to
grow into maturity 1. Adolescence is a period of transition from childhood to adulthood and a period

Portrayal Of Women In Herland
The story of Herland depicts mostly about feminism, feminism is the advocating rights of women to
gain equality to men. Herland is about a society that is made up of entire women and the need for male
counterpart is not necessary. The story is narrated through the eyes of a male narrator Von, Jeff and
Terry. Three different points of view were given about how women should be treated. During reading
the novel it was seen that Herland uses the stereotypes of females and used it to their advantages
where they depict all females willing and able to complete the task that modern society would see fit
for a male. The women in the novel clothing were not provocative however, it was built to convenient
to their daily life and also for comfort. They did not show any flirtatious tendency, and the need of
male in any shape or form was never necessary for them. They were mostly mothers, builders and,
farmers. The women lived together peacefully without caring about gender biases in the world.
The story was based on three males who was filled with boyish intention about a civilization of
women waiting for a male to come and rescue them. But in contrast to this, the women of Herland did
not need saving. This Utopia was created to show the negative flaws that society has about a female,
for example, society will always think that a female is always a damsel in distress and always need
saving. The three males Von, Terry and Jeff are such exaggerations of masculinity, they feel that it

The Role Of Religion And The Rise Of Capitalism
The weber thesis is the argument that turned Marx on his head: Instead of capitalism causing religion,
religion actually caused capitalism as stated in Collins (pg. 47). Weber goes on to stating as the
Catholic Church was broke down during the 1517 by Martin Luther, he abolished the monasteries, the
priests could get married but also the Bible could get translated from Latin to German so the people
could read it for themselves. This meant that the priests were just like ordinary people and people
could find their own way to embed their beliefs of God within their own lives. Weber then established
religion was having a major effect in producing modern capitalism. Max Weber and Karl Marx are
established as the two well known theorists of the 19th Century. Many argue that there are various
comparisons between these sociologist s theories, however although Marx and Weber both examined
similar ideas, they noticeably came to two drastically different conclusions. This essay will go on to
critically analyse what the role of religion was in the rise of capitalism and discuss how Weber s work
was criticised by numerous sociologists e.g. Marxism and Durkheim.
Weber s theory very quickly became recognised by many, this was because it had shown an
association between religious ideas and economic development. He was not arguing that capitalism in
general was caused by Protestantism. He was just drawing the connection between Calvinism and a
particular kind of capitalism. Both the

Tally, an Astonishing Character in the Book Uglies by...
Tally is an exceptional character from the book Uglies who captivates everyone s attention with her
bold personality. Dr. Cable manipulated her by making her go to Smoke all alone, which was an action
of a risk taker. In addition, she accomplished many actions that took true courage while she was
running away from Special Circumstances during the Smoke invasion. Along with these positive
qualities, Tally is a determined girl who will get what she wants when she puts her mind to it. From all
the characters from the book, Tally certainly stand outs from the rest because of her exemplary ways.
To start with, Tally was manipulated, lied to, and she did everything that she was told, and in all the
steps of the way she was a risk taker. She ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sometimes, Tally made a risk for her personal reason, like when she crashed the party to see Peris.
Other times it was to help people that she truly cared and loved about, as when she went to see Maddy
and Az s house with David to see if they were alive. Yet, in all the situations that she took a risk, she
had to have extreme courage.
Tally did many things that took great amounts of courage to do, but the things that took the most
courage happened during the Smoke s invasion. When Tally went to go and talk to Dr.Cable during the
invasion she told her that she throw the pendant on the roof (which was a lie) and when Tally went to
get it a guard came with her. When the guard was struggling on the roof she jumped on the hover
board and started running away from the hoverboards that soon started following her. This was an
action that not anyone would do, only someone with as much courage as Tally. Something else that
Tally did which took courage was, running away from Special Circumstance while they were chasing
her in hoverboards after she was the only Smoky left. While she was running away, she ran into a cave
that she had only been once. Tally didn t have food, water, proper clothing, and light, but she still ran
into the cave to save herself. Many people wouldn t have the courage to do such things, but Tally is so

Paid Family Leave Act
Brief explanation of Family and Medical Leave Act(FMLA)
The FMLA entitles eligible employees to take unpaid, job protected leave for specified family and
medical reasons with continuation of group health insurance coverage under the same terms and
conditions as if the employee had not taken leave. http://www.dol.gov/whd/fmla/
In 2002, California became the first state in the United States to create the Paid Family Leave (PFL)
program a family leave insurance program that provides income replacement to eligible workers for
family caregiving or bonding with a new child and this program went into effect on July 1, 2004.

In this case, Mr. Guinn has already exceeded the acceptable number of late days and in fact the other

Ms. Hu, knows that he is in a serious situation which is his wife has cancer and he is the primary
caregiver. However, the point is when his tardiness and absence happened, those were unexcused.
I have 4 things that I would suggest Ms. Hu and her Boss to do.
First thing is tell Mr. Guinn to apply for Family Leave as soon as possible because he does need the
leave for his wife, in addition to that, if this case is happening in California, he also can apply for Paid
Family leave.
Secondly, consider if it s possible to use his paid leave for previous absent and tardiness to make his
total number of them less than acceptable number or not. He has been working for this company for 9
years, so I think he has right to take paid leave. If they can do that, they don t need to be worried about
equality, but they need to check his wife s medical document to refer the date.
Next one is posting the FMLA notice. They have to do this and make sure every employee

The History of Iwo Jima Essay
Introduction The island of Iwo Jima is just one of the many islands in the pacific that make up the
island chain of Ogasawara. The Ogasawara chain of islands are located approximately 750 miles south
of Tokyo. In comparison to most of the other islands in the pacific Iwo Jima is relatively small, in fact
it is only four and a half miles long by two and a half miles wide. The geographic layout of Iwo Jima
consists of a dormant volcano on the northern side called Mount Suribachi and a flat stretch of land to
the south. So why is such a small island so important? After the surprise attack by the Japanese on
Pearl Harbor America needed a place to stage aircraft for conducting bombing runs on Tokyo, Iwo
Jima provided the best place to host ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though he had some buildings built to satisfy his command his primary focus was on the
construction of an elaborate system of tunnels underground that connected every part of the island.
The General learned that if he mixed the natural volcanic ash on the island with concrete it mad an
almost indestructible barrier. All together General Kuribayashi built over eleven miles of tunnels
which housed a number of rooms to accommodate all of his needs. On the south side of the island he
constructed an airfield for the Japanese fighter planes to use. When America did attack all of the
buildings were destroyed just as General Kuribayashi predicted. Deployment The American invasion
of Iwo Jima began on February 19, 1945 and continued till March 26, 1945, a battle that only lasted
36 days, yet had some of the most ferocious fighting and casualties ever seen. Execution/Action In an
effort to weaken the Japanese defenses located on Iwo Jima America began a bombing raid that started
on December 8th, 1944 and lasted for 70 days, there were over 5800 tons of bombs dropped on the
island. Three days before the Marines invasion the Navy provided a three day bombardment with
naval guns from over four hundred and fifty ships that were massed just off the island; they also
launched an additional one hundred airplanes that continued to bomb the island until the Marines
assaulted the island on foot. Unfortunately at the time military intelligence

Schizophrenia Is A Heterogeneous Illness
Schizophrenia is a heterogeneous illness that may involve several pathophysiological gender
differences. For men and women incidence risk peaks between 20 29 years of age, and women also
have a second risk peak between 30 39 years of age. Negative symptoms including low motivation
and withdrawal are more frequent in men and appear up to six years before diagnosis (Hafner, 2005;
Hafner et al., 1993; Morgan et al., 2008). Women exhibit greater levels of depression and positive
symptoms including sexual inappropriateness, impulsivity and delusions (Mendrek et al., 2015; Van
der Werf et al., 2014). Sex differences in either age of onset or prevalence of negative symptoms are
not as evident in patients that have a family history of schizophrenia (Bergen et al., 2014; Hafner et
al., 1998).
Estrogen has been proposed to have a possible protective role that may account for a later age of
disease onset in women, when levels are lowest during post response rates to antipsychotic drugs are
also higher in women menopause (Allen et al., 2013; Hafner, 2005; Leung M.D. Chue M. R. C.
Psych., 2000; Ochoa et al., 2012). Obstetric complications have also been connected with an increased
risk of developing schizophrenia, an earlier age of disease onset, poorer outcomes and ventricular
enlargement. Such complications appear to be more frequent and severe in males than females. (Allen
et al., 2013; Dalman et al., 1999; Kelly et al., 2004). Prenatal exposure to influenza 5 months before

The Liability Of Casinos And The Casino Industry

Advantage And Disadvantage Of E-Commerce
After I have gone through this article paper, my opinion would be, e commerce is becoming a major
factor in the development of business whether it is a global or a local business. This is happening
because the selection of data innovation is on the expanding pattern and hence prompts various
changes in business exercises. In any making decision situation, it has never been easy and that is the
situation that the SMEs nowadays are facing in their business. Before I go further with the advantages
of having e commerce in SMEs, I will first start with the disadvantages. First and foremost is the
organizational readiness. According to Chong (2009), the hierarchical preparation measures whether
the associations traits are sufficiently adequate in receiving the e commerce. They proposed that top
administration backing is the most critical component to figure out if the organization is prepared to

The Hunting Ground For my outside event I chose to attend the screening of The Hunting Ground
which was directed by Kirby Dick, who also directed the film, The Invisible War . In addition to the
special screening of this film, Kirby Dick made a special appearance for a post film discussion. The
event began at 5:30P.M. and went on till about 7:30P.M. or so which began with a rocky start as Kirby
Dick was scheduled to arrive in time to introduce the film to the audience, but due to an unfortunate
mishap on Highway 99, it caused him to arrive closer towards the end of the film. In the film we are
presented with two protagonists, Andrea Pino a valedictorian from her high school and Annie Clark
who graduated third in her high school class. Both ladies are alumni s at University of North Carolina
Chapel Hill, and both had been sexually assaulted before their classes at UNC had even began. Both
girls shared very similar experiences; they both knew their attacker, they were in denial about their
assaults, and when they approached their school administrators to report the assault were bombarded
with insulting questions in regards to how they were dressed the night of the attack, if they had been
drinking, and essentially boiled it down to that both girls got what was coming for them for putting
themselves into those situations. The film highlights how colleges and universities try to make their

Why Do Accountants Have Too Much Power
Ruth Hines paper discussing how we construct reality is very interesting and leads one to wonder
whether accountants have too much power. Accounting classes teach concepts of realization and
organizations as if it has always been that way. It is hard to think of why accountants do things the
way they do, because it is just the way it is supposed to be done. Accountants are considered to be the
professionals that everyday stakeholders trust to provide reliable information. As Hines said,
Everything would be a mess without us. Naturally, everyone assumes accountants always know how
to handle an issue; it is safe to say most people assume they do not have issues in the first place. But,
of course, there are always issues that need to be handled.

The Role Of Racism And Discrimination In The United States
As an individual with unique life experiences, It s easy to dismiss the societally constructed struggles
of other individuals. The popular phrase for this phenomena is Out of sight=Out of mind . It s
understandable to not immediately accept the struggles of others when they are struggles in which you
have never experienced before. Those sins can be forgiven. However, what is not forgivable is the
refusal to educate oneself to better understand those struggles and fundamentally accept that other
individuals are negatively affected by these unfamiliar experiences. Specifically, the black community
within the United States, who receive a very different experience than the white community. Racism

The political and economic consequences of racial discrimination have most certainly had an
imbalanced benefit for white communities. However, these benefits are accepted as the standard for
which these communities should be and have been in a sense of status quo. This refusal to accept the
societal discrimination had often been referred to as color blindness. Color blindness can be defined as
the refusal to acknowledge the struggle of non white s by using the success of a few no white
individuals as an example of a fading social racism. A example of this which is often used, is the
election of President Barack Obama (López, 2004). Through the national election of a categorized
black president, many have felt that this is an example of a race free society. This community who
believe this are often uneducated to contemporary societal structure of our country, or have personal
agenda s in which they feel the need to mask with bold statements. It is our duty, as a plural nation of
many ethnicities, to not only educate ourselves on the complexity and beauty of the different
American cultures, but to communicate this acceptance of diversity to the next generation. It is okay

Improving School Education System Essay
America is a blessed country in numerous ways, and its citizens reap the benefits. Free education is
one major benefit that not many other countries provide for their citizens. While it is only a privilege
to many, but in the States, people have the right to be educated. However, free education cannot be
translated to success for all. For those motivated ones who cherish the privilege to be educated are
those who climb up the success ladders later in life. For a certain majority of students in the States, our
current educational system may not seem to serve its purpose. In this paper, I will explore two
possible adjustments that could be made to improve our system to benefit our next generation.
Academic improvement and class size ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Techniques and skills need to be learnt, and cannot be replaced by the convenience of technology. In
the primary years, students ought to be grounded with the basics. Once they miss this window, it
requires them more to be trained later in life. I marvel at the speed of our technology advancement,
but how I desire to see academic advancement in our next generation.
Kindergarten teachers always earn my greatest respect. In California, the class size has increased to 22
students for kindergarten to third grade. One teacher versus 22 students, coming from different
background and educational level, really is a big challenge for another to take. Given that some
students have gone through preschool and some who have never had any group experience prior to
entering kindergarten, that creates a gigantic tap among the kids in one class. The first couple months
into the school year, teachers would spend the majority of time establishing structure, routine, and
disciplines. Without these being taken place in the beginning of the year, teaching is almost an
impossible task to accomplish. The class size needs to be limited to maximize the discipline and the
learning, or another option is to have a teacher s aid in the class to assist the lead teacher. Reduction of
class size benefits both the teachers and the students. With a small size, teachers can better control
their classrooms, and thus, able to allocate

Evaluating Nurses Norm-Referenced Tests (Crts)
Evaluators categorize tests into two major groups: norm referenced tests (NRTs) and criterion
referenced tests (CRTs). These two tests vary in planned purpose, content selection, and scoring
process, which determines how the educator construes the test outcomes. NRT interpretation defines
the performance of the test taker in relation to one another. In contrast, the CRT represents the
performance of each test taker without regard to the performance of others. The classic shape of the
NRT distribution is the normal distribution, bell curve (Billings Halstead, 2012, p. 480). Colleges use
NRT distribution to offer limited spaces to students who apply to the nursing program. When choosing
the best is imperative, NRTs are ideal for making this kind of selection decision. Unlike the NRT

A criterion is a measurable behavior, attitude, or knowledge; therefore, CRTs assess a student s
mastery of a criterion without reference to any other student. Evaluators determine each student s
performance by using a preset, or absolute standard linked to the objectives and curriculum. Many
nursing programs use CRTs to assess essential nursing skills, such as taking vital signs. Additionally,
CRTs can assess complex higher order thinking. Since critical thinking is progressive, educators
realize students will be unable to master this objective in the fundamentals course. However, students
will be required to demonstrate behaviors represented by the learning outcomes. Additionally,
educators will encourage students to strive for their personal best. The critical thinking objective will

The traditional architecture of the city is resulted in these three factors, the economy, the climate, and
the people s lifestyle.
Back in the day, the population of UAE is very unevenly distributed; there is a dense amount of people
living in Abu Dhabi due to its abundance of water and palm trees. The construction of forts and
citadels were very popular during that era. While forts were being used accommodation, citadels were
commonly used as a defensive structure used in more urban or densely populated areas and was
associated specifically with a powerful leader. The lower classes lived in houses built with perishable
materials such as palm frond and woven palm mat while the higher classes lived in stone, mud brick
and coral houses built by professional builders. [1]
Figure 1 shows a typical house in a village built using woven palm mats, mostly inhabited by lower
class families [2]
Another factor that affected the traditional architecture of Abu Dhabi was the climate. Because of its
arid climate, one of the solutions was to build wind towers, which is a concave V shape to deflect
wind down to cool the spaces below it. Buildings were also built close to each other, with narrow
alleys between them, called the sikkas. These rely on the northern winds to flow freely and into spaces
to ensure ventilation. These two systems would work together, the wind tower catching

Machiavelli s The Prince
The Renaissance represented a new era in which values such as secularism and power became
prevalent in society. Machiavelli expresses the need for politics and religion to be separated
throughout his book The Prince . Previously rulers had been restricted by Christian principals, but
Machiavelli held the idea that rulers were warranted in any action so as long as it benefited the general
public. Machiavelli believed that politics existed outside the realm of religion and morals.
Subsequently, he approved of using any means necessary to gain and keep power, including lying,
stealing, and murder. During this time Italy s city states were in political chaos and condottieri roamed
the streets. Machiavelli thought it was the ruler s duty to maintain discipline and peace in society at
any cost. Despite his intentions to help Italy, Machiavelli s ideas were often seen as immoral and
dishonest. The idea of a purely political action where morals were set aside is later referred to as the

the two sides of the painting it reflects the ideas of the Greco Romans and the development of

The process on ocean freight started with picked up the goods. Freight forwarder will picked up the
goods from shippers. In this stage, there were many documents that have to be completed such as

Was Agamemnon Is Achilles Justified In The Aeneid
Through the history of the world, man has always been driven by self gain and each man believes he
is self justified. When Agamemnon and Achilles argue over the return of Chryseis and the prize
Briseis, they both think they are right. Achilles convinces Agamemnon to return the stolen Chryseis
but King Agamemnon takes Achilles Briseis as compensation. Agamemnon is most justified in his
actions. No, he did not fight on the front lines with Achilles and his men, but as the king he has every
right to stay behind his army and lead. A king should be ready to give everything for his kingdom, but
that does not mean they should lead every charge. Many people have pointed out that if it were

Achilles claims that a King who fights no battles should get no prize, but as explained before no king
should should be expected to fight on the front lines of every war. The fight between the two grows
after Achilles throws an offside insult to Agamemnon when telling him the rest of the war spoils have
been given out. Just how, Agamemnon, great field marshal . . . most grasping man alive... After this
insult Agamemnon need to fire back, because he can t be torn down in front all of the nobles and
warriors present. The insults escalate until Agamemnon and Achilles are ready to kill each other. In
this situation they were both being childish and petty but Agamemnon is still the least wrong. Achilles
fired the first shot in this case and Agamemnon needed to protect his reputation. He could have
stepped away and showed he couldn t be brought down by insults but in the heat of the moment, he
wouldn t have been thinking the clearest. Now addressing the obvious, Briseis was rightfully Achilles

The Trial By Franz Kafka
In The Trial by Franz Kafka, the protagonist K. is going through what is often thought of as one of the
most dehumanizing aspects of society. Even in the United States many criticize the justice system for
being dehumanizing. People are forced to wear the same thing, act the same way, and are given
numbers instead of names. In The Trial Kafka emphasizes the dehumanizing aspects of this process by
exacerbating the bureaucratic steps that must be accomplished and adds more uncertainty and secrecy
to the steps. Kafka s writing shows the lack of information that K. is given, and the symbolic
dehumanization that occurs during the whipping and with K. lacking a last name. The actual steps K.
must take to clear him name is always kept secret. K. is always kept ignorant of his charges, of what
he must do, of what the outcome will be, or of what will happen next. As early as page 3 K. is kept in
the dark. When he originally asks what he is being charged with he is told We are not authorized to tell
you that, (3), he is then promised that he will be informed everything in due course, (3). K. is kept in a
total state of ignorance throughout the entire novel. He is constantly introduced to new people who say
that they can help him, but he is never given clear answers, he is just shown false hope. At no point
does he make any real progress in his case. He is always chasing information, just to find out that he
has been running in circles the whole time. The justice

Sexism In Modern Society
Sexism is the failure to give equal weight to women s interests. It is the antithesis of feminism, a
moral, political, and social movement that seeks justice for women. Sexism is important because it
undermines the welfare of one half of the human population and is a major source of women s
oppression. The concept of women as inferior to men originates from ancient civilization. Since the
beginning of time, men are gifted the titled as strong, independent, and the bread winner for the entire
households. In a sense, men are superior as they hold all the power and ability to decide for their
household and nation. On the other hand, women are limited to only reside in the home as their duties
cleaning, cooking, and nursing belongs at home. This suppression and imbalance in power is still a
constant battle for women even after the Women s Rights Movement. Women fought for equality and
desired to have the freedom to express their minds and do activities outside the home like men. They
were eventually granted this freedom as time progressed, but gender roles are still present in modern
society. One particular stereotype portrayed by the media is women s inability to fight and protect
themselves. Female characters are often depicted as a damsels in distress, always in need of protection
or rescuing from a male character. Sadly enough, this perception is not always true. Women are not
weak, fragile, or incapable of protecting themselves. If anything, females have the capability to

Why Is Jay Gatsby Great
Although some say that Jay Gatsby isn t as great as the title of the book, because of all the fraud he
has committed, Jay Gatsby can be viewed as great because he did not allow his circumstances at birth
to hold him back, he achieved incredible amounts of wealth, which he shared with others, and his
primary desire for Daisy s love was genuine. Most people born into poverty remain there because they
do not have enough faith in themselves to get out, but James Gatz was different. Gatz was determined
to forget his past, since his past was holding him back from what he wanted to pursue in the future.
Gatsby later reveals his true past to Nick and Nick tells us that his parents were shiftless and
unsuccessful farm people and his imagination had never really accepted them as his parents at all. (98)

The Legacy Of The Lauren Rogers Museum
The Lauren Rogers Museum is located in Laurel, Mississippi and was built in 1923. One unique
characteristic about this museum is that has the Georgian Revival Style, which means if you were to
cut the museum down the middle in equal halves each side would be identical. While touring the
Lauren Rodgers Museum there were two separate collections that caught my eye. These collections
consisted of the American and European collection. The American collection focuses primarily on
portraiture. In the American Collection I chose a painting by Jean MacLane called The Chintz Chair.
MacLane was born on September 14, 1878 and died on January 23, 1964 in New Canaan,
Connecticut. One of MacLane s first studies was at an Art Institute in Chicago with John Vanderpoel.
MacLane and her husband, artist John C. Johansen (1876 1964) help found the National Foundation of
Portrait Painters in 1912 (Jean 2015). The year of 1912 was considered to be MacLane s biggest year
because she was recognized for many different awards. MacLane depicted the Allied Leaders from
W.W.I., provided the only female subject, Queen Elisabeth of Belgian, and also became an associate
member of the National Academy of Design. The main items that MacLane incorporates into her
portraits are women and their children. In 1931, she was elected to the American Academy of Arts and
Letter (Jean 2015). The picture that I chose from the American Collection by Jean McLane

The Effects Of Murine Chronic Cerebral Hypoperfusion
Abstract Murine chronic cerebral hypoperfusion (CCH) results in white matter (WM) injury and
behavioral deficits. Pericytes influence blood brain barrier (BBB) integrity and cerebral blood flow.
Under hypoxic conditions, perictyes detach from perivascular locations, increasing vessel
permeability and neuronal injury. This study characterizes the time course of BBB dysfunction and
pericyte coverage following murine experimental CCH secondary to bilateral carotid artery stenosis
(BCAS). Mice underwent BCAS or sham operation. On post procedure days 1, 3, 7 and 30, corpus
callosum BBB permeability was characterized using Evans blue (EB) extravasation and IgG staining
and pericyte coverage was calculated. The BCAS cohort demonstrated increased EB extravasation on
postoperative days 1 (p=.03) and 3 (p=.01) when compared to sham mice. Further, EB extravasation
was significantly greater (p=.03) at day 3 than at day 30 in BCAS mice. Positive IgG staining was
seen at post procedure day 3 in the BCAS group. BCAS mice demonstrated a nadir in pericyte
coverage on post operative day 3 (p50%) was reported to be 7% in women and 9% in men3. Clinical
carotid endarterectomy studies of cerebral hypoperfusion, demonstrate a nearly 25% incidence of
subtle cognitive decline in the absence of overt neurologic change or radiographic evidence of stroke4.
Neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer s disease and vascular dementia have become

character everyone watching the film would want to be. It is clear that the main character in the film is

Another reason Tom Joad is the best character in Grapes of Wrath is because he is one of the hardest

What is the true definition of education? Is it the process of learning or does that term just address the
schools setting? Is education what a person learns throughout his or her lifetime or is it just what they
learn in the twelve to sixteen years they attend school? These are all questions being asked by not only
myself but the entire nation. We have seen much change to the educational atmosphere throughout its
long existence, but we who are living thorough it now, must decide whether these changes are having
a positive or negative effect. Throughout the educational history change is one word that has stayed
constant; however the most recent and most particular change amongst the educational arena is its

The best and most local example of this is within the Pittsburgh City School District. Mark Roosevelt,
superintendent of the school district, and the school board sought outside of their teachers and district
itself to Kaplan K12 Learning Services. The Pittsburgh school district paid Kaplan $8.4 million to
write standardized curricula for grades six through 12. Kaplan has created these to be geared and
based on the standardized testing, which is required with the passing of NCLB. Not only have districts
been structured around these curriculums, but teachers have too. In a somewhat recent Post Gazette
article it said, Teachers have complained that Kaplan s detailed curriculum turned them into
automatons and deprived them of time to cover material in adequate detail or help students with
individual needs. Not only have these outside companies built and structured the schools, but have
also made teachers and students machine like. Neither the teacher nor the students have the ability and

There are many benefits of doing this project. I will learn how to use the different woodwork tools and
machines used to make wooden things like a carcase table. I may also learn about marketing and how
similar things can be produced and sold. I will learn some good life skills and I will know how to
construct wooden object using the different woodwork machines and tools.
To complete the task I will design my carcase table according to the correct specifications and
measurements. Once I have designed my carcase table I will create it in the workshop by first cutting
it out and gluing the appropriate pieces together. Once it is constructed I will sand it and put a finish
on it.

Description: A very modern Carcase table. It is very square and has curved legs. It would suit someone
with a modern life style.
Positives: It is very eye catching, and appeals to the target audience. It enhances the décor and would
look great in a modern home. The rectangular top of this carcase table would be quite easy to make.
Negatives: The legs are curved and would be quite hard to make. The legs would all have to be the
exact same in size and volume which would be extremely hard to do. The knob used to pull the draw
in and out is metal, which is not aloud.

the video that displays an advertisement similar to the Google ad words advertisements that appear

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act requires the owners of content to notify websites when their
copyrights are infringed. This works for YouTube because the responsibility lies with the copyright

burden with those copyright holders. But if YouTube has to scan the vast numbers of videos uploaded
every minute on its site, the concept of YouTube would not work because users expect their videos to
be posted immediately.
3. Assume you were a manufacturer of sporting goods, and wanted to use YouTube videos as a
marketing tool to establish your brand. What concerns would you have about using YouTube?
Video advertisements have a response rate of 0.4%, which is still greater than regular web
advertisements such as banner ads, but is not an impressive number if I were a sporting goods
manufacturer looking to use YouTube video ads as a major part of my advertising budget. I can expect
that a large portion of the viewing audience would skip or block out my advertisement. The return on
investment is potentially very small. Another concern I would have would be copyright issues,
especially since 25% of the videos on YouTube contain copyrighted material and make up possibly
more than half of the total views. There could be potential risks of lawsuits from advertisements

Planning, Scheduling, Budgeting and Risk Management for the Desire2Learn (D2L) Learning
Management System
Overview
Translating the many project requirements, risks and costs into a single cohesive platform to manage
the implementation of the Desire2Learn (D2L) learning management system is the intent of this
analysis. One of the most critical success factors of any project plan is the balancing of risk, costs and
time constraints to ensure the overarching project is completed on or before schedule (Cleland, 1985).
The action definition and plan design components of the D2L Learning Management Systems are
defined and discussed in this project plan analysis with specific focus on timing and resource
allocations. In addition, this analysis has been created to serve as the framework to guide the
implementation of the D2L Learning Management System over the duration of the project. Resources
for this plan s completion include the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the district, Information
Systems and Information Technology (IT) department staff members, the superintendent, the vendor
professional services team and the vendor training and implementation staffs. All of these teams and
individuals need to be orchestrated towards a common objective and timeline in order for the project
plan to succeed. Creating and maintaining a collaborative platform is essential for the attainment of
project plan deadlines and milestones, serving as a platform for communication and knowledge

Gender Dynamics Within Iran — Offside Film
The Gender Dynamics Within Iran Throughout the various texts and films we observed this semester,
there were a multitude of underlying themes associated with each. These themes do not live in a
textual or film related vacuum, but rather offer major implications on given Middle Eastern cultures.
In the fictional film Offside, directed by Jafar Panahi, he decides to zero in on the complex culture
within Iran. He illustrates the culture within Iran by employing the 2006 World Cup qualifying soccer
match between Iran and Bahrain as a metaphor of the various social dynamics attached to this sporting

and tries to help her as he seems to be legitimately worried for her wellbeing. Also, the ticker scalper

perception of the military s enforcement of this law is extremely strict and violating it is very much
unsafe. However, the actions of the soldiers in their treatment of the girls suggests otherwise. At the
end of the movie, the girls and soldiers are celebrating with all the Iranian people in the streets after
the huge win, which provides the notion that these young women got off scot free. Perhaps Panahi is
symbolizing fear tactics practiced by the government in order to promote law abiding citizens. The

Essay on Western Movies Since 1960
A NOT SO ACCURATE prophet once wrote, quot;As recently as 1972, there were a tremendous
number of quality Westerns being made . . . and since there seems to be a ten year cycle in Western
movie making, I d say we ll see more in about 1982. quot; 1 In 1982 only two Westerns were released,
and neither was exactly a major success. Barbarosa, starring Willie Nelson, drew some respectable
reviews and some very damaging ones but nobody went to see the film. The Ballad of Gregorio
Cortez appeared first on PBS television, then later went into general release. Today the Western seems
to be deader than the California Med fly. Critics and aficionados of the form can only hear, as with

? Obviously it couldn t. For all subsequent generations, then, the Western has to be rediscovered, like
some store of ancient literature one studies in school.
Reviewing the last twenty five years of the Western, 1960 1985, is salutary for both aficionados and
novices. The sixties began with a great film done in the sparest, most austere classical manner, Budd
Boetticher s Comanche Station (1960). The last of the Renown cycle of seven films that Boetticher
made with Randolph Scott, Comanche Station reduces the elements of the journey Western to create
one of its purest expressions ever. Scott is an aging knight, a man quot;always alone in Comanche
country, quot; who, reminiscent of John Wayne s searcher, hunts endlessly for his wife, taken ten years
previously by the Comanches. He buys a woman out of captivity not his wife, of course, whom he will
never find and escorts her back to her husband. The journey pits him against a charming, evil
adversary (Claude Akins), and the trip becomes the occasion for a moral dialectic of the kind for
which the Western seems the perfect vehicle. In the end the villain adopts Scott s code, dying
honorably, and Scott delivers the wife to her husband. He turns out to be a blind man, a fact that
surprises and pleases because all through the film we have worried, along with Scott, about what kind
of man would leave such a woman to another s care. It is a great film, and anybody wanting to know

The statue would have died if not for the valiant efforts of Joseph Pulitzer, who through his magazine,
the World, helped raise the much needed funds for the pedestal. Though the French had graciously
granted us the statue free of charge, the Americans still had to pay for the pedestal upon which the
statue was to rest. He stated that the statue was to be a symbol of unity, freedom, and the ideals that so
many of them had fought for to acquire their very own independence. Pulitzer?s campaign of criticism
was just what the statue needed. His actions helped to raise funds from the rich and the middle class.
In a couple of years, the US had enough money to form the pedestal. Back in France, Bartholdi had
problems of his own. The structure of the statue located in the interior was a very formidable task due
to its intricate makeup. To circumvent this problem, a man named Alexandre Eiffel, well known due to
his composition of the architecture for the Eiffel Tower in Paris, was hired as the structural engineer.
He was able to make the skeletal framework and the iron pylons for the statue and construction
continued. The statue was completed in 1884, surpassing the deadline by a reasonable number of
years. The statue was dismantled and labeled to prevent confusion when it reached New York. It was

Research Paper On Harry Harry Harlow
Harry Harlow
Harry Frederick Harlow was probably best known for his experimentations on monkeys to discover
the effect of maternal separation, what exactly were the dependency needs on a living being, and
experiments in social isolation for the subject. His research showed the rest of society the importance
of companionship and caregiving to social as well as cognitive development. Speculators believe that
part of the reason Harlow was so obsessed with these kinds of studies was because he didn t have a
very good childhood himself. Even at an early age, he claimed to struggle with depression. His mother
and father weren t extremely involved in his life as well. This possibly led him to gain so much
interest in the study of essentially love and how it effected other people that you may be close with.
At the time, it was said that love began as a feeding bond with the mother and applied by extension to
other family members. Other theories claimed that humans and other social animals lived in organized
societies simply to help with sexual contact. Starting in 1957, Harlow worked with rhesus monkeys.
The reason behind why he chose this specific type of breed was because the monkeys that they were
utilizing were more mature at birth than humans, but like human babies show a range of emotions and
needed to be nursed. During the experimentations, he took infant monkeys away from their real
mothers and gave them instead two artificial mothers. One of the models were made

  • 2. How Did Bernard Madoff Create A Ponzi Scheme I think Bernard Madoff engaged in creating a Ponzi scheme because of greed. His unethical behavior was based on white collar crime (Ferrell, Fraedrich, Ferrell, 2013). Mr. Madoff met the characteristics of a white collar criminal. In recent years women held a very less respectful position . they were not treated as human. On other hand, Punjab has an increased percentage of literacy among women . now women are allowed to enter into professional fields now. However, in the 1950s my grandmother tells women were just made to do household chores. They were not allowed to get higher education or even go out without the permission of parents. They were supposed to be at home . while on the other hand the practices of female foeticide, poor health conditions and lack of education persisting still continue. Even the supportive ideology of the home being women s real domain and marriage being her ultimate destiny has not changed much in last 60 years. When our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Portrayal Of Women In Herland The story of Herland depicts mostly about feminism, feminism is the advocating rights of women to gain equality to men. Herland is about a society that is made up of entire women and the need for male counterpart is not necessary. The story is narrated through the eyes of a male narrator Von, Jeff and Terry. Three different points of view were given about how women should be treated. During reading the novel it was seen that Herland uses the stereotypes of females and used it to their advantages where they depict all females willing and able to complete the task that modern society would see fit for a male. The women in the novel clothing were not provocative however, it was built to convenient to their daily life and also for comfort. They did not show any flirtatious tendency, and the need of male in any shape or form was never necessary for them. They were mostly mothers, builders and, farmers. The women lived together peacefully without caring about gender biases in the world. The story was based on three males who was filled with boyish intention about a civilization of women waiting for a male to come and rescue them. But in contrast to this, the women of Herland did not need saving. • 7. The Role Of Religion And The Rise Of Capitalism The weber thesis is the argument that turned Marx on his head: Instead of capitalism causing religion, religion actually caused capitalism as stated in Collins (pg. 47). Weber goes on to stating as the Catholic Church was broke down during the 1517 by Martin Luther, he abolished the monasteries, the priests could get married but also the Bible could get translated from Latin to German so the people could read it for themselves. This meant that the priests were just like ordinary people and people could find their own way to embed their beliefs of God within their own lives. Weber then established religion was having a major effect in producing modern capitalism. Max Weber and Karl Marx are established as the two well known theorists of the 19th Century. Many argue that there are various comparisons between these sociologist s theories, however although Marx and Weber both examined similar ideas, they noticeably came to two drastically different conclusions. This essay will go on to critically analyse what the role of religion was in the rise of capitalism and discuss how Weber s work was criticised by numerous sociologists e.g. Marxism and Durkheim. Weber s theory very quickly became recognised by many, this was because it had shown an association between religious ideas and economic development. He was not arguing that capitalism in general was caused by Protestantism. He was just drawing the connection between Calvinism and a particular kind of capitalism. Both the ... Kafka s writing shows the lack of information that K. is given, and the symbolic dehumanization that occurs during the whipping and with K. lacking a last name. The actual steps K. must take to clear him name is always kept secret. K. is always kept ignorant of his charges, of what he must do, of what the outcome will be, or of what will happen next. As early as page 3 K. is kept in the dark. When he originally asks what he is being charged with he is told We are not authorized to tell you that, (3), he is then promised that he will be informed everything in due course, (3). K. is kept in a total state of ignorance throughout the entire novel. He is constantly introduced to new people who say that they can help him, but he is never given clear answers, he is just shown false hope. At no point does he make any real progress in his case. He is always chasing information, just to find out that he has been running in circles the whole time. The justice ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Sexism In Modern Society Sexism is the failure to give equal weight to women s interests. It is the antithesis of feminism, a moral, political, and social movement that seeks justice for women. Sexism is important because it undermines the welfare of one half of the human population and is a major source of women s oppression. The concept of women as inferior to men originates from ancient civilization. Since the beginning of time, men are gifted the titled as strong, independent, and the bread winner for the entire households. In a sense, men are superior as they hold all the power and ability to decide for their household and nation. On the other hand, women are limited to only reside in the home as their duties cleaning, cooking, and nursing belongs at home. This suppression and imbalance in power is still a constant battle for women even after the Women s Rights Movement. Women fought for equality and desired to have the freedom to express their minds and do activities outside the home like men. They were eventually granted this freedom as time progressed, but gender roles are still present in modern society. One particular stereotype portrayed by the media is women s inability to fight and protect themselves. Female characters are often depicted as a damsels in distress, always in need of protection or rescuing from a male character. Sadly enough, this perception is not always true. Women are not weak, fragile, or incapable of protecting themselves. If anything, females have the capability to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most people born into poverty remain there because they do not have enough faith in themselves to get out, but James Gatz was different. One unique characteristic about this museum is that has the Georgian Revival Style, which means if you were to cut the museum down the middle in equal halves each side would be identical. While touring the Lauren Rodgers Museum there were two separate collections that caught my eye. These collections consisted of the American and European collection. The American collection focuses primarily on portraiture. In the American Collection I chose a painting by Jean MacLane called The Chintz Chair. MacLane was born on September 14, 1878 and died on January 23, 1964 in New Canaan, Connecticut. One of MacLane s first studies was at an Art Institute in Chicago with John Vanderpoel. MacLane and her husband, artist John C. Johansen (1876 1964) help found the National Foundation of Portrait Painters in 1912 (Jean 2015). The year of 1912 was considered to be MacLane s biggest year because she was recognized for many different awards. MacLane depicted the Allied Leaders from W.W.I., provided the only female subject, Queen Elisabeth of Belgian, and also became an associate member of the National Academy of Design. The main items that MacLane incorporates into her portraits are women and their children. In 1931, she was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letter (Jean 2015). Pericytes influence blood brain barrier (BBB) integrity and cerebral blood flow. Under hypoxic conditions, perictyes detach from perivascular locations, increasing vessel permeability and neuronal injury. This study characterizes the time course of BBB dysfunction and pericyte coverage following murine experimental CCH secondary to bilateral carotid artery stenosis (BCAS). Mice underwent BCAS or sham operation. On post procedure days 1, 3, 7 and 30, corpus callosum BBB permeability was characterized using Evans blue (EB) extravasation and IgG staining and pericyte coverage was calculated. The BCAS cohort demonstrated increased EB extravasation on postoperative days 1 (p=.03) and 3 (p=.01) when compared to sham mice. Further, EB extravasation was significantly greater (p=.03) at day 3 than at day 30 in BCAS mice. Positive IgG staining was seen at post procedure day 3 in the BCAS group. BCAS mice demonstrated a nadir in pericyte coverage on post operative day 3 (p50%) was reported to be 7% in women and 9% in men3. Clinical carotid endarterectomy studies of cerebral hypoperfusion, demonstrate a nearly 25% incidence of subtle cognitive decline in the absence of overt neurologic change or radiographic evidence of stroke4. In the fictional film Offside, directed by Jafar Panahi, he decides to zero in on the complex culture within Iran. He illustrates the culture within Iran by employing the 2006 World Cup qualifying soccer match between Iran and Bahrain as a metaphor of the various social dynamics attached to this sporting event and the country as a whole. This implies the public perception of the military s enforcement of this law is extremely strict and violating it is very much unsafe. However, the actions of the soldiers in their treatment of the girls suggests otherwise. At the end of the movie, the girls and soldiers are celebrating with all the Iranian people in the streets after the huge win, which provides the notion that these young women got off scot free. Reviewing the last twenty five years of the Western, 1960 1985, is salutary for both aficionados and novices. The sixties began with a great film done in the sparest, most austere classical manner, Budd Boetticher s Comanche Station (1960). The last of the Renown cycle of seven films that Boetticher made with Randolph Scott, Comanche Station reduces the elements of the journey Western to create one of its purest expressions ever. Scott is an aging knight, a man quot;always alone in Comanche country, quot; who, reminiscent of John Wayne s searcher, hunts endlessly for his wife, taken ten years previously by the Comanches. He buys a woman out of captivity not his wife, of course, whom he will never find and escorts her back to her husband. The journey pits him against a charming, evil adversary (Claude Akins), and the trip becomes the occasion for a moral dialectic of the kind for which the Western seems the perfect vehicle. In the end the villain adopts Scott s code, dying honorably, and Scott delivers the wife to her husband. He turns out to be a blind man, a fact that surprises and pleases because all through the film we have worried, along with Scott, about what kind of man would leave such a woman to another s care. Research Paper On Harry Harry Harlow Harry Harlow Harry Frederick Harlow was probably best known for his experimentations on monkeys to discover the effect of maternal separation, what exactly were the dependency needs on a living being, and experiments in social isolation for the subject. His research showed the rest of society the importance of companionship and caregiving to social as well as cognitive development. Speculators believe that part of the reason Harlow was so obsessed with these kinds of studies was because he didn t have a very good childhood himself. Even at an early age, he claimed to struggle with depression. His mother and father weren t extremely involved in his life as well. This possibly led him to gain so much interest in the study of essentially love and how it effected other people that you may be close with. At the time, it was said that love began as a feeding bond with the mother and applied by extension to other family members. Other theories claimed that humans and other social animals lived in organized societies simply to help with sexual contact. Starting in 1957, Harlow worked with rhesus monkeys. The reason behind why he chose this specific type of breed was because the monkeys that they were utilizing were more mature at birth than humans, but like human babies show a range of emotions and needed to be nursed.
