Compare And Contrast Lincoln And Jefferson Davis
In 1861, ideological divisions between the north and the south exploded with the inauguration of
Abraham Lincoln dividing the county into the Union and Confederation. Jefferson Davis became the
President of the Confederation, while Abraham Lincoln continued to represent the United States. Both
men led during the bloodiest war of American history with fatalities claiming approximately 2.385%
of the total population (Wikipedia). Both presidents influenced the path of the Civil War with
intelligence developed by extensive educations, Jefferson Davis obtained his education through formal
academic methods, while Abraham Lincoln educated himself through books and on the job training.

Social Impact Of Ww1 Essay
What impact did WW1 have on the Australian home front? World War I was a global war based in
Europe that began on 28 July 1914 and lasted until 11 November 1918. The Australian Imperial Force
(AIF) had great involvement in the war, serving as part of the British Empire. In Australia, or the
Australian home front the war had major impact, in many aspects of the Australian society.
Conscription was a social impact of WWI, The Enemy Within was a social impact of WWI and
women were a social impact of WWI. Conscription was a social impact of WWI on the Australian
home front, as it heavily divided the Australian community. Unlike other countries such as England
and Germany, Australia did not have conscription at the outbreak of WWI in 1914. The Australian

Desperate to get men to list, in December 1915 Labor Prime Minister William Hughes issued a Call to
Arms to all men aged 18 to 45: ..if you love your country, if you love your freedom, the take your
place alongside your fellow Australians as the front . Intense recruiting campaigns were also used to
entice enough men to enlist. Many urged the government to introduce conscription, but Australia had a
federal Labor government in power at the time, whose platform disapproved of conscription. Labor
supporters thought it unfair that there be conscription of working men when there was no conscription
of the wealth and privileged. In 1916, after returning from seeing the devastation on the Western
Front, Hughes was convinced that Australia should introduce conscription, blatantly going against
Labor policy. On the 28 October 1916 Hughes decided to hold a referendum on the issue Are you in
favor of the government having, in this grave emergency...compulsory power over citizens in regard to
requiring their military service . The proposal was narrowly defeated. Conscription split the Labor
Government. Hughes, with twenty three of his Labor supporters left the Labor party

Social Media is used to provide information about a particular disaster and in turn receive feedback,
messages, comments and posts from users. The use of social media as an emergency weapon for
communication is increasing and readily available to post emergency information in turn receiving
assistance requests from affected people, using images uploaded to estimate the damage caused and
how to come to aid with these conditions.
But is social media actually capable of helping those affected in disasters through the Internet forum?
The use of social media during natural calamities at all levels local or international has successfully
widened and expressed interest concerning how social media very soon will be used to come in terms
with recovery of affected regions and cultural monuments because of disaster.
Taking the recent natural disaster, an earthquake with massive magnitude that affected Nepal as an
example we examine the benefits of using social media as a platform with its implication in context to
natural disasters.
Introduction:
The use of social media is not restricted by geographical boundaries; it is used to interact with anyone
in the world who is sharing the same media application (Boyd and Ellison, 2008).

The constant buzzing of dogs barking sounds like mosquitoes in my ears. The worried and sad looks

needed a fourth member. They had a little girl. She had long blonde hair, just like mine. The man
shows them around, and then the little girl comes towards me. Her hazel eyes staring into mine like if
she was looking straight into my soul. She whispered You are mine. I tilt my head in confusion asking
myself Did she just say that I belonged to her? Is this all a dream? She quickly runs over to her parents

Immigration Laws And The United States
Immigration laws have resulted in a situation where many illegal immigrants live and work in the
United States. Yet, it is an important issue that has been blown out of proportion by the media and
politicians. Here in the United States, Syrian refugees have enriched our cultural growth into a more
diverse and positive outcome and have enhanced our influence in the World. However, Americans
have responded to their arrival with violence and hate towards them.
In the late 19th century, the Arab world was under the Ottoman Empire. The United States chose to
classify this certain group as Arab immigrants along with others that were under this empire including
Turks, Greeks, and Armenians. Despite that the ruling Ottoman authority was Islamic, they were seen
as Turks and the vast majority were Christians. At the turn of the twentieth century, Arabs became
more associated with being Muslim and Syrians were labeled as Christians, which is why Syrians
were seen as more favorable. In the 1900s, the Chinese Exclusion Act identified those who were
considered white or not. This was important because once stated that a person is White , they can
become a naturalized citizen. According to Encyclopedia of Race, Ethnicity, and Society, Richard T.
Schaefer says, In 1914 George Dow was denied U.S. citizenship by a judge on the grounds that he
could not satisfy the prerequisite of being a free White person. The decision was reversed based on the
argument that Syrians were in fact members

forwards the username to a key distribution center (KDC). The KDC issues a ticket granting ticket
(TGT), which is time stamped and encrypts the secret key and returns the encrypted result to the user s
workstation. This is done infrequently, typically at user logon; the TGT expires at some point although
it may be transparently renewed by the user s session manager while they are logged in.
When the client wants to communicate with another node, then it needs to send the TGT to the ticket
granting service (TGS), which usually shares the same host as the KDC. The Service must be
registered at TGT with a Service Principal Name (SPN). The client uses the SPN to request access to
this service. After verifying that the TGT is valid and that the user is permitted to access the requested
service, the TGS issues ticket and session keys to the client. The client then sends the ticket to the

Dollree Mapp s Execlusionary Rule
On May 23, 1957, Cleveland police officers attempted to search Dollree Mapp s house under the
assumption that she had in her custody a suspected bomber and illegal gambling items. The police
were turned away after Mapp requested that they first acquire a search warrant. Three hours later, the
police returned to her home and forcibly raided Mapp s house without a warrant, and found their
search to be futile. Instead of the evidence they expected to find, the officers discovered pornographic
materials in Mapp s possession. To own such salacious pictures and books is an encroachment of Ohio
s state code, so Mapp was arrested and convicted for this violation. Dollree Mapp appealed her case to
the Ohio Supreme Court on the basis that it was an intrusion on her rights defined in the Fourth
Amendment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mapp complained that her Fourth Amendment rights were being violated because she was convicted
based on evidence procured from an illegal warrantless search of her home. When the Ohio Supreme
Court rejected her case, she brought it forth to the United States Supreme Court. In 1961, the U.S.
Supreme Court rescinded Dollree Mapp s conviction and extended the exclusionary rule to all state
criminal prosecutions. The exclusionary rule dictates that any evidence obtained by police or other
government agents through an illegal search in violation of the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution
is inadmissible in court during a criminal trial (5). Before Mapp v. Ohio, the exclusionary rule was
created due to Weeks v. United States, another Supreme Court case in 1914, when it was only

A Comparison of Homeric Formalism in The Iliad and The...
Homeric Formalism in The Iliad and The Odyssey
Much that is terrible takes place in the Homeric poems, but it seldom takes place wordlessly... no
speech is so filled with anger or scorn that the particles which express logical and grammatical
connections are lacking or out of place. (from Odysseus Scar by Erich Auerbach)
In his immaculately detailed study comparing the narrative styles of Homer to those of the Bible,
Erich Auerbach hits upon one of the most notable intrigues of reading Homer, namely his unrelenting
sense of epic form and rhythm. The stories that unfold in the works of Homer are filled with passion
and fury, but this never effects the meticulous regulation of his narrative. One of the chief ... Show

To take the death of Phereklos as an illustration: first, we are told Meriones in turn killed Phereklos...
(Bk V. ln. 59). Then we are given a description of his death:
... Meriones pursued [Phereklos] and overtaking him struck in the right buttock, and the spearhead
drove straight on and passing under the bone went into the bladder. He dropped, screaming, to his
knees, and death was a mist about him. (Book V, lns. 65 68)
Although the deaths of major characters are more elaborate and detailed, the basic structural pattern
remains the same. The death of Patroklos for example is much embellished, but the basic formula
approach, attack, wound, and finally the mist of death remains recognizable. The use of what is
essentially a template for the description of death in battle could serve one of two purposes. The fact
that the deaths in The Iliad and the final battle scene of The Odyssey become so many carbon copies
of one another, predictable almost to the point of absurdity, perhaps reflects a poet s judgment of war.
Homer goes to such elaborate lengths to depict the immensity of the enterprise and the sweat and
hardship of battle, that one can t help but sense, hidden within this repeated formulaic expression of
dying, a commentary upon death as the ultimate equalizer. Conversely, the methodical treatment of
death could simply be an indication of Homer s

Objectivity And Journalism
Every journalist student will tell you that the most important aspect of being a journalist is to be
impartial, objective, and to always report the facts not your opinion. Everyone knows what objectivity
means, yet do they all follow the rules? Is it even possible for journalists to be objective? Most
importantly, is objectivity a concept that even exists? I m going to examine the evidence.
We live in a word where most journalists and news corporations are labeled as being corrupt , biased
and deliberately misinforming. Corporations such as FOX news in the US is constantly criticised as
being propaganda for right wing bias, and in the UK we have similar situations with the BBC, Sky
News, and newspapers such as The Sun and the Daily Mail. In truth, pretty much every news outlet on
the planet shows a certain degree of bias and non objectivity.
Objectivity is the main ethos of journalism, being one of the first things a journalism student is taught.
It gives journalists a set of rules to report news accurately and without bias in favour of a particular
party. Though certain aspects of this can differ should you be a columnist or feature writer, this tends
to be the general consensus. A quick skim through the dictionary tells us that objectivity is The quality
or character of being objective; (in later use) esp. the ability to consider or represent facts,
information, etc., without being influenced by personal feelings or opinions; impartiality; detachment.

Software Patent/Copyright Laws
What is Patent and Copyright Laws ?
In effort to save/protect the innovators and rewards them all the countries around the world has some
or other form of patent. Some places the law gives one the ability to patent anything he/she wants or
other have imposed a restriction what the innovation means when we think or talk about the software
program and the algorithm. To reward the innovator the lawmakers has took a step further and added a
term (time) for which one can own the patent and different country has different regulations about
this.
To copyright and patent laws are really two different thing that cannot be mixed together. The basic
differences between copyrights and patents: a copyright deals with a particular work, usually a written
work and it has to do with the details of that work. Ideas are completely excluded from it. Patents, by

Essay about The Woman in Black
The woman in black: how does Arthur s character change during the course of the story?
At the beginning of the story Arthur is a proud and striving townsman, who enjoys life. This satisfying
state deteriorates by the dreadful experiences he encounters during his stay at Eel marsh house. This
affects him for the rest of his life.
Arthur was an ambitious man, who was interested in building his future; we learn this in the first
chapter:
This house was one day to be my own home. (p13)
To finance these ambitions he hopes to take more responsibility in the business so that he can ask for a
pay rise from Mr Bentley his employer. (p41)
On the train journey to Crythin Gifford Arthur expresses his pride in his job by saying: ... Show more

Whatever little Arthur hears about it he classifies it as tales that had grown out of proportion.
When Arthur sees the woman in black for the second time near Eel marsh at the burial ground, he has
a slight suspicion that she is not a human being:
Who she was or what and how she had vanished, such questions I did not ask myself...I did not
believe in ghosts.
but what other explanations was there?(p66 and 68)
This creates a little bit of curiosity in Arthur s mind and soon or later he finds out what she really is.
It was Arthur s experiences at Eel Marsh house which damaged his mental and physical life.
For how long I sat there, in extremes of despair and fear fullness, I do not know. (p76)
When a person like Arthur who adopts such high grades of fearlessness and resiliency expresses his
fear in such a manner he must have been terribly scared. Surely such levels of fear must affect a
person.
A key point in the story is when Arthur visits Eel Marsh house he explains his experiences as follows:
I had been as badly frightened as a man could be (p85).
Arthur was such a brave and resilient man, the same man who dismissed all the stories that he had
heard as tales that had grown out of proportion, must have experienced intense levels of fear to be so
terrified. These experiences change Arthur himself into a completely different man who now lacks in
physical activity and

Annotated Bibliography On Animal Poaching
Jorge Ramirez
Professor Andrew Franz Esq.
CJL 4115

Elephant Poaching When one imagines what elephants are like in the wild, they imagine giant animals
roaming the land eating plenty of food and drinking plenty of water. The average person may not
know, or understand, that there are people that practice the illegal killing of elephants, or poaching, in
order to obtain and then sell or trade that ivory for whatever is valuable to the poacher. Poaching is
illegal because it has led to the significant decline in the elephant population in recent years and can
very well lead to severe endangerment or worse, extinction. Elephants are more than just animals that
graze on the land, but they are animals that can spread the seeds of the plants they eat. Elephants roam
a large area of land, and therefore, spread seeds via their dung. This is great for plants that have no
ways of transportation, except for falling next to their parent plant. Along with the vast spreading of
seeds, the seeds that are in elephant stomachs are softened, which means the seeds are able to
germinate faster than seeds that have not been softened (Scientificamerican). Due to this there must be
lots of plants that have been dependent on elephants because of co evolution. The poaching of
elephants is an issue that must be looked into not only because of reasons stated above, but also
because the extinction of a certain species can only cause a domino effect of cataclysms. The matter of
poaching

The Rise Of The Chinese Economy
Throughout the world, there are many nations and regions that have undergone immense changes to
reach their modern positions in the international economy. One such location is China, which
experienced a major shift from a society revolved around independent sustenance in the agricultural
industry into a society revolved around socialism, direct funding for the Chinese government through
the Chinese people, and the mass production of goods with high demand in the global market by co
operatives. Of course, the changes in the workings of the Chinese economy developed from the
changes in the politics of China. On the 1st of October 1949, The People s Republic of China was
founded in Beijing. The founding of the party both marked the end of what is today considered by
historians the most profound revolutionary upheaval in modern history, in which the Guomindang
Party rose to power in China, issued many different currencies, and was unable to control inflation,
food shortages, and exponentially occurring price fixations; as well as the beginning of the tides of
socialism in China in the 20th century, which caused the contemporary Chinese economic
transformation. The Chinese economic transition from a centrally planned economy and agrarian
society to a market economy and unified, socialist society was ultimately caused by the three Five
Year Plans adopted by the growing Chinese Communist Party, which were stable and beneficial
outlines for the Chinese regime because they developed

Ethical Dilemmas Of Attorney Client Privilege
Merriam Webster dictionary defines an ethical dilemma as a problem where a person has to choose
between a moral and an immoral act. Attorneys come into contact daily which involves the attorney
client relationships. The attorney client privilege is a legal privilege that works to keep

doctrine that protects confidential information, the contents and actions related to the privileged
communication must preserve the integrity of the attorney client privilege. This paper presents the
ethical dilemmas of the attorney client privileges, trust and the importance of adequate closure in
attorney client relationships. Ethical Dilemmas Between Attorney Client Attorneys are to represent
their clients as members of a legal profession. As long as there has been an attorney client case, there
has been disputes regarding the attorney s loyalty to their clients. Ethically, the adverse action
implicates important professional values which include the obligations of legal professionals to
provide services to those that need them, to become fully informed regarding legal matters to ensure
competence, and to hold confidential clients communication. The attorney should always be truthful

Creating An Information Management System
Management Summary Summary of requirements Club IT recognizes the pitfalls of their antiquated
system. Creating an information management system will advance their business protocols and
provide a cohesiveness between inventory control, wait staff monitoring, and data security. Adding an
additional focus on WiFi availability is an advantage to Club IT and their customers. Inventory control
is a primary concern to prevent overstock and out of stock dilemmas. Overstocking products effects
the budget negatively. Out of stock products essentially effects revenue negatively and hinders
customer satisfactions. A business intelligence model that encompasses database functionality and a
point of sale (POS) system features would remedy many of the inventory control downfalls. The
automation provided by an information management system would allow ?critical? products to be
automatically ordered when a designated remaining stock percentage is reached. For non critical
products, a notification would be sent to the owners to determine if the product should be ordered now
or at a later date. Sale figure reports from the POS system would provide valuable information on sale
quotas for all products. Critical product ordering will be fully automated with confirmation supplied to
owners after product is ordered from vendor. Non critical products simply need the owner?s approval
for the automation process to complete the order. A POS system, combined with an accounting and

The Impact Of Public Figures As A Role Models On Children
Do we want young teen girls living in a world where it s normal for boys to call them a fat piglet ?
Many famous celebrities act inappropriately in the public eye. Since they re so famous, if they do
anything that should be considered wrong, no one really thinks of it as a mistake. For example, if
someone at school hit, called someone an inappropriate name, everyone would make a big deal out of
it. However, if a popular basketball player hit his wife, it isn t published in news sources and showed
to the public as much as it should be. Furthermore, public figures being perceived as a role model
affects children in negative ways because they act inappropriately in the public eye, are violent, and
break laws. Many celebrities think it s okay to act improper in public because they re famous. Look at
the president of the United States, Donald Trump, he has social media and some of the things he says
and puts for everyone to see is a little much sometimes. There is a video of Trump in an interview a
couple years back calling Khloe Kardashian a fat piglet . If a teen girl saw that video one day and she
was insecure about her looks, that video isn t going to make her feel better about herself. Statistics
show in 2011 2013 there was 10.9 per 100,000 teens who committed suicide. A lot of those teens were
assumably insecure, feeling unaccepted in the world, dealing with depression, and felt like they were

The Global Warming Debate On Our World
Pollution is poisoning our air, destroying our world, killing our species and plants; Human activity is
to blame. However, since 2012 Fox news has been reporting that global warming is fake and that it is
not caused by human activity but rather by natural causes. Further, this global warming debate has
been an ongoing battle between the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. In 2012 during
Obamas second run for presidency, the global warming debate went on full blast. That year Obama
had announced a series of executive actions to reduce carbon pollution, prepare the U.S. for the
impacted of climate change, and lead international efforts to address global climate change. This
announcement made many republicans angry and lead them to try to debunk global warming. Further,
conservative news channels particularly fox news started reporting that climate change was fake. Fox
News reported in an interview with John Coleman weather channel co founder, there is no scientific
proof that supports man made climate change (John Coleman). Saying otherwise climate change is
fake. However, ninety seven percent of climate scientists will disagree with that statement. According
to NASA Global Climate Change vital signs of the planet , ninety seven percent of climate scientists
agree that climate warming trends over the past century are very likely due to human activities (vital
signs of the planet). Nevertheless, Fox news has been reporting that climate change is natural, wind

The Economic Policies Of Supply Side Economics
Ever wondered why you have to pay those extra couple of cents at the grocery store? Or why gas
prices seem to be constantly fluctuating? The answer lies within a nation s economic policy. Economic
policy is the actions taken by a government to influence its economy. Types of economic policy
actions can include setting interest rates through a federal reserve, regulating the level of government
expenditures, creating private property rights, and setting tax rates. Economic policy hopes to
accomplish economic growth and a stable economy. More specifically, the federal government hopes
to accomplish stable prices, economic growth, and full employment by its economic policy.
Economists debate over three economic policies: supply side ... Show more content on

The methods that supply side economics uses to improve economic growth are to lower marginal
taxes and less government regulation. Under President Ronald Reagan, Congress passed a plan that
would slash taxes by $749 billion over five years. As a result, Reagan was called a great advocate for
supply side economics and was praised for his great leadership. Although supply side economics is
based on the idea of encouraging people to work harder, it also seems to not always work. For
example, Congress passed the cut in tax rates after Reagan was elected, but tax revenues did not rise.
This goes to show that other economic policies need to be examined in order for the economy to be
successful.
Demand side economics is based on the belief that the most important thing affecting economic
activity and thus resulting in the most stable economy is consumer demand for goods and services.
Also called Keynesian economics, demand side economics was developed after the Great Depression
when supply side economics fell through. Demand side economics was founded by John Maynard
Keynes and is based on aggregate demand. Aggregate demand is the total level of demand for desired
goods and services, which is made up of the sum of consumption expenditure, investment expenditure,
government expenditure, and net exports. Demand side economics utilizes methods such as increasing
the buying power of the lower and middle classes, which increases the demand for more goods

Higher Power In George Orwell s 1984
What would happen if the government or another form of power could decide what is real and what is
not? What if one day you woke up and your favorite fun fact or best known memory of the war had
been vaporized overnight? Within George Orwell s dystopian novel titled 1984 there is a perfect
example of a higher power that controls the reality of the population. In this story the higher power,
known as Big Brother, has the power to manipulate facts, the history, and even the thoughts of the
population. The majority of citizens in this book follow Big Brother and whole heartedly believe in all
that The Party has to say, but not Winston. The main character of this story, Winston, knows of many
alterations made to history. Maybe the entire population knows the real truth, but if Big Brother has
the ability to vaporize people, places, or events in history; where is the proof? It has been made clear
all throughout this novel that, yes, Big Brother definitely has the ability to decide what is real and
what is not. The Party does this by making certain people, items, or events completely disappear and
making it clear to the population who is in charge. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

waiting for you to mess up instills fear in each individual which can cause an entire population to
believe anything that Big Brother says. O Brian also knows that Big Brother has ultimate control, But

Should Huckleberry Finn Be Taught In Schools
The novel Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain is one of the most controversial novels
written in American literature. Multiple different people have disagreed about this novel and whether
it should be allowed to be taught in school or banned since the late 1980s. The Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn is a valuable novel and should be included in high school curriculum because it
teaches students about the history of American society, it demonstrates Twain s style of writing, and it
addresses the topic of race. The novel was written when slavery still existed in America, and people s
lifestyles were incredibly different from modern day. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn takes place
in multiple southern towns where the people aren t highly educated. Beginning with Huck and his

Most say it should not be used in any form in today, although it is very prominent in schools. A parent
of a high school student in Virginia says that the books are telling the kids it is okay to speak in this
way. She states, This is great literature. But there (are so many) racial slurs in there and offensive
wording that you can t get past that. said the parent of the student (Beck). The slurs make the whole
room uncomfortable and the students shouldn t feel that way in the classroom. The teachers of the
classes do not know how to teach it correctly which disturbs the students. The question is not whether
or not to teach this book, but how to teach this book, and it is an incredible opportunity to get students
talking about our racial history and our racial present, (Beck) If teachers are not comfortable teaching
it, the correct message will not be received from the novel. Some individuals feel that it s not fair to

The Pros And Cons Of Fast Food Restaurants
The three friends Steben, Derrick, and Gunther Blackwell all knew that they were in trouble. They
prank called all of the fast food restaurants in town. The three acquaintances called Arby s McDonald
s and every other fast food place they could think of. Can I get uhhhhh boneless ice cube with a side
of salt and a two liter Coke. said Steben holding in all of the laughter.
Sir, we do not serve boneless ice, but you can order from the Mc Pick 2 menu for only $5! explained
Jeff, the McDonald s worker.
No thank you, but my friend would like to have an order of Two chicken sandwiches and a fidget
spinner for the toy on the side. he chuckled.
Sir, we also do not serve chicken sandwiches and we do not have fidget spinners! he grumbled with a
deep sigh afterwards.
Ok, I will have two number nines and a number nine large with a chilli dog on the side and a hog rider
toy at the end. said Steben with a red face just barely holding in all of his laughter.
You know what, I quit this job! ,he squealed, I am also going to track this number down and get the
police on you immature and childish kids!
Jeff could hear them all burst out laughing and he was outraged. He went ballistic after hearing them
all laugh. He felt as if he was in the African savannah with a Cackle of hyenas.
The three friends quickly hung up the phone letting out all of the laughter they had built up from the
prank call. Steben could not believe what they had just done. He was dying of laughter

Arab American Culture
Many countries in the 21st Century became multicultural with the increase in global movement. The
purpose of this study is to explore perceptions, experiences, and patterns of health care practices
among Arab Americans and then to discover perceptions and experiences of health care providers
associated to culturally competent care. I selected this cultural as we are caring lot of patients from
this background especially in the pediatric oncology unit where I am working at MD Anderson. They
are the main income source for my hospital as they pay out of pocket. The goal of the study is to find
answers that would provide the basis for implementing system wide changes to include culturally

Transcultural nursing approach is to identify patient s cultural needs, respect for cultural beliefs and
practices, equal access to treatment and communication needs. From this article its clear that language
barrier affected all aspects of care to this group. It s crucial to learn about the background of a
particular culture to deliver culturally sensitive care. The first step in overcoming cultural diversity is
the awareness of stereotypes and prejudice s and the next step is learning how other people
communicate. The rapport between patient and health care team is often strained by mutual cultural
misunderstanding as well as communicative and linguistic hardship. What could be accepted to some
cultures may be odd to others.
The key points illustrated in the Journal of Transcultural Nursing, are the Faith of Islam and Health,
the Value of Health in Islam, health Promotion Practices in Islam which includes general hygiene,
diet, and exercise. Cultural factors can have a deep impact on health which ascends from religious
beliefs and practices. They believe that God is the creator of human beings and he has authority on our

Analysis Of The Film Unforgiven
In 1905 the film The Little Train Robbery was released. It was a parody of The Great Train Robbery,
and it had the same plot except an all child cast. It was the first movie to critique or make fun of
another movie. The director had a point to get across to the audience and he did that through the use of
children actors. Almost ninety years later the biggest western actor at the time did the same thing,
except without the humor. He directed the film Unforgiven, and through it he was able to critique
certain aspects of a traditional western genre. In the film Unforgiven, the director, Clint Eastwood,
uses the characters Little Bill, the Schofield Kid, and W.W. Beauchamp to critique and attack common
conventions of the western genre. Clint ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second type of character that Eastwood is critiquing is the western hero and the Schofield Kid. In
traditional movies the western hero or the outlaw figure has no remorse for his actions and, in a way,
likes to kill. He gets a rush from it and feels no guilt. The Schofield Kid on the other hand is the
opposite of that. He talks big and says that he has killed people before, but in fact this is his first hit.
After he murders the second man he is terrified. He gives his gun to Will and says he will never kill
again because of the pain it has caused him. Also, the western hero typically is an outstanding shot
with a rifle and pistol. The Schofield Kid is not at all. He is almost blind which cause him to not be
able to shoot a rifle with any sort of accuracy, and for this reason he can only kill at close range. These
flaws that the Schofield Kid has is what Clint Eastwood is showing through this movie. The western
heroes are not super humans, they are people who have problems like poor vision and do feel remorse
for their actions. This is also shown through Will Munny who talks about how his past actions make
him feel regretful. This is the new age of westerns and the heroes in it are not infallible. Finally, the
last character that Eastwood uses to attack old western conventions is W.W. Beauchamp. Through this
character Eastwood is showing how naive the old audiences where when watching the old western
genre s films. The viewers believed what they saw and believed

Literary Devices In Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening
Winds, snow, and darkness oh my! A traveler and his noble steed find themselves on a quest deep in
the woods on the darkest snow filled night and thus stopping to take it all in. An analysis on the Poem
by Robert Frost, called Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening . What was the desire of the
exhausted traveler to stop and appreciate the woods that seemed so irresistible? Although his horse
questions his judgment, and the traveler s hidden promise to keep at the end of his destination, he
stops to take in the scenery. With the output given the traveler s journey is not over when stated that he
has miles to go before he sleeps even though he s tired he takes this moment to reboot his energy in
the night air, making his quest about the journey and then about his previous engagement. The rest of
this essay will express the literary devices and themes featured in this poem.
This poem grabbed my attention because I was engaged while reading it the whole time, with the
imagery helping to make a perfect scene in my head. Every line gave another piece to the overall
scene and perspective. Each time I have re read this poem I find something different and a new
meaning to each line or a new literary device used. While reading how dark, cold and big the woods
are I never felt like they were dangerous, maybe a little foreboding at times, but instead the feeling of
the traveler and his horse were welcomed there by the similarities to the place and that the blanket of
snow wrapping

History and Moral Development of Mental Health Treatment...
History and Moral Development of Mental Health Treatment and Involuntary Commitment The
history of involuntary commitment has been developed and created through the history of mental
illness and the constructs of society. Government policy has been created to treat mental illness and
this philosophy of mental illness and its treatment goes as far back as Greek Mythology. The belief
about mental illness has changed throughout history and at times thought to be due to, possession of
demons, reversion to an animalistic level of consciousness, a sinful state of the soul, a chemical
imbalance, and as reported recently in the medical journal Nature and Genetics, a defect in
chromosome number six (at least as far as schizophrenia is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Hamilton, 1971). Hippocrates believed that mental illness had a physical and a rational explanation
and rejected the views of his time that considered illness to be caused by superstitions and by
possession of evil spirits. Additionally, he recommended that the treatment of mental illness should be
conducted in an asylum, a secure and safe retreat from the chaos and pressures of the environment,
rather than having persons with mental illness whipped in public, or incarcerated in dungeons
(Stevens, D. 1997). Soranus of Ephesus lived in the century 98 A.D. in Rome, and was a physician of
women and childbirth. Soranus believed that the human body is composed of atoms constantly in
motion. He theorized that disease was caused by a disturbance in these atoms. In light of the recent
discovery that schizophrenia might be caused by a defective chromosome number six, Soranus view
coincide with the latest findings on the possible causes of some mental illness (Darton, K. 2000).
Although, Soranus described mental illness as an organic disturbance, he treated it by psychological
methods, minimizing the use of drugs and other physical treatments. Treatments included encouraging
reading, entertainment, sea voyagers, etc. Soranus thought that the patient should be engaged in
intellectual activities not only for therapeutic purposes but to detect

Ironman Research Paper
It s easy to identify with the physically strenuous side of an ironman competition. But, many athletes
fail to realize the mental intensity of the sport and how powerful the psychological effects can be both
before and after a race.
Understanding how to deal with, and prepare psychologically for an ironman competition, is
imperative. Ironmen need to address their race day mindset, but also must appreciate how important
psychologically, the period is immediately following a race. Here we ll discuss getting mentally
prepared for race day, plus how to get handle the psychological strain after the race is over.

There are number of relaxing celebratory types of activities that do not require food, or drink. Alcohol
especially puts a damper on physical recovery time, plus sugary treats and foods high in fat will set off
a physical crash that will immediately slow, if not freeze physical recovery.
Rest You Must Rest
There seems to be an inherent genetic trait inside competitive athletes, ironmen alike. As soon as the
competition is over, there is an insatiable urge to get right back to the training table to improve
performance. This can be an especially troublesome thing to avoid if the race results did not meet
expectations.
Immediately the physiological mind wants to overlook the condition of the physiological body. It s a
mental sense that more now will produce better results later. Fact of the matter is if we want to
improve on this race, a period of rest before resuming our training is advantageous, both mentally and
physically.
Even if athletes feel they are taking enough time to rest after an event, they may not be incorporating
sufficient rest periods during the training season. Over training and insufficient rest periods are two of
the reasons many ironmen burn out, both physically and eventually

The Australian Imperial Force (AIF) had great involvement in the war, serving as part of the British Empire. In Australia, or the Australian home front the war had major impact, in many aspects of the Australian society. Conscription was a social impact of WWI, The Enemy Within was a social impact of WWI and women were a social impact of WWI. Desperate to get men to list, in December 1915 Labor Prime Minister William Hughes issued a Call to Arms to all men aged 18 to 45: ..if you love your country, if you love your freedom, the take your place alongside your fellow Australians as the front . Intense recruiting campaigns were also used to entice enough men to enlist. Many urged the government to introduce conscription, but Australia had a federal Labor government in power at the time, whose platform disapproved of conscription. Labor supporters thought it unfair that there be conscription of working men when there was no conscription of the wealth and privileged. In 1916, after returning from seeing the devastation on the Western Front, Hughes was convinced that Australia should introduce conscription, blatantly going against Labor policy. On the 28 October 1916 Hughes decided to hold a referendum on the issue Are you in favor of the government having, in this grave emergency...compulsory power over citizens in regard to requiring their military service . The proposal was narrowly defeated. Conscription split the Labor Government. Hughes, with twenty three of his Labor supporters left the Labor party ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The use of social media as an emergency weapon for communication is increasing and readily available to post emergency information in turn receiving assistance requests from affected people, using images uploaded to estimate the damage caused and how to come to aid with these conditions. But is social media actually capable of helping those affected in disasters through the Internet forum? • 7. Immigration Laws And The United States Immigration laws have resulted in a situation where many illegal immigrants live and work in the United States. Yet, it is an important issue that has been blown out of proportion by the media and politicians. Here in the United States, Syrian refugees have enriched our cultural growth into a more diverse and positive outcome and have enhanced our influence in the World. However, Americans have responded to their arrival with violence and hate towards them. In the late 19th century, the Arab world was under the Ottoman Empire. The United States chose to classify this certain group as Arab immigrants along with others that were under this empire including Turks, Greeks, and Armenians. Despite that the ruling Ottoman authority was Islamic, they were seen as Turks and the vast majority were Christians. At the turn of the twentieth century, Arabs became more associated with being Muslim and Syrians were labeled as Christians, which is why Syrians were seen as more favorable. In the 1900s, the Chinese Exclusion Act identified those who were considered white or not. This was important because once stated that a person is White , they can become a naturalized citizen. According to Encyclopedia of Race, Ethnicity, and Society, Richard T. Schaefer says, In 1914 George Dow was denied U.S. citizenship by a judge on the grounds that he could not satisfy the prerequisite of being a free White person. This is done infrequently, typically at user logon; the TGT expires at some point although it may be transparently renewed by the user s session manager while they are logged in. When the client wants to communicate with another node, then it needs to send the TGT to the ticket granting service (TGS), which usually shares the same host as the KDC. The Service must be registered at TGT with a Service Principal Name (SPN). The client uses the SPN to request access to this service. Dollree Mapp s Execlusionary Rule On May 23, 1957, Cleveland police officers attempted to search Dollree Mapp s house under the assumption that she had in her custody a suspected bomber and illegal gambling items. The police were turned away after Mapp requested that they first acquire a search warrant. Three hours later, the police returned to her home and forcibly raided Mapp s house without a warrant, and found their search to be futile. Instead of the evidence they expected to find, the officers discovered pornographic materials in Mapp s possession. The exclusionary rule dictates that any evidence obtained by police or other government agents through an illegal search in violation of the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution is inadmissible in court during a criminal trial (5). Homeric Formalism in The Iliad and The Odyssey Much that is terrible takes place in the Homeric poems, but it seldom takes place wordlessly... no speech is so filled with anger or scorn that the particles which express logical and grammatical connections are lacking or out of place. (from Odysseus Scar by Erich Auerbach) In his immaculately detailed study comparing the narrative styles of Homer to those of the Bible, Erich Auerbach hits upon one of the most notable intrigues of reading Homer, namely his unrelenting sense of epic form and rhythm. The stories that unfold in the works of Homer are filled with passion and fury, but this never effects the meticulous regulation of his narrative. One of the chief ... Meriones pursued [Phereklos] and overtaking him struck in the right buttock, and the spearhead drove straight on and passing under the bone went into the bladder. He dropped, screaming, to his knees, and death was a mist about him. (Book V, lns. 65 68) Although the deaths of major characters are more elaborate and detailed, the basic structural pattern remains the same. The death of Patroklos for example is much embellished, but the basic formula approach, attack, wound, and finally the mist of death remains recognizable. The use of what is essentially a template for the description of death in battle could serve one of two purposes. The fact that the deaths in The Iliad and the final battle scene of The Odyssey become so many carbon copies of one another, predictable almost to the point of absurdity, perhaps reflects a poet s judgment of war. Homer goes to such elaborate lengths to depict the immensity of the enterprise and the sweat and hardship of battle, that one can t help but sense, hidden within this repeated formulaic expression of dying, a commentary upon death as the ultimate equalizer. Conversely, the methodical treatment of death could simply be an indication of Homer s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Objectivity And Journalism Every journalist student will tell you that the most important aspect of being a journalist is to be impartial, objective, and to always report the facts not your opinion. Everyone knows what objectivity means, yet do they all follow the rules? Is it even possible for journalists to be objective? Most importantly, is objectivity a concept that even exists? I m going to examine the evidence. We live in a word where most journalists and news corporations are labeled as being corrupt , biased and deliberately misinforming. Corporations such as FOX news in the US is constantly criticised as being propaganda for right wing bias, and in the UK we have similar situations with the BBC, Sky News, and newspapers such as The Sun and the Daily Mail. In truth, pretty much every news outlet on the planet shows a certain degree of bias and non objectivity. Objectivity is the main ethos of journalism, being one of the first things a journalism student is taught. It gives journalists a set of rules to report news accurately and without bias in favour of a particular party. • 18. Annotated Bibliography On Animal Poaching Jorge Ramirez Professor Andrew Franz Esq. CJL 4115 April 15, 2015 Elephant Poaching When one imagines what elephants are like in the wild, they imagine giant animals roaming the land eating plenty of food and drinking plenty of water. The average person may not know, or understand, that there are people that practice the illegal killing of elephants, or poaching, in order to obtain and then sell or trade that ivory for whatever is valuable to the poacher. Poaching is illegal because it has led to the significant decline in the elephant population in recent years and can very well lead to severe endangerment or worse, extinction. Elephants are more than just animals that graze on the land, but they are animals that can spread the seeds of the plants they eat. Elephants roam a large area of land, and therefore, spread seeds via their dung. This is great for plants that have no ways of transportation, except for falling next to their parent plant. Along with the vast spreading of seeds, the seeds that are in elephant stomachs are softened, which means the seeds are able to germinate faster than seeds that have not been softened (Scientificamerican). Due to this there must be lots of plants that have been dependent on elephants because of co evolution. The poaching of elephants is an issue that must be looked into not only because of reasons stated above, but also because the extinction of a certain species can only cause a domino effect of cataclysms. In traditional movies the western hero or the outlaw figure has no remorse for his actions and, in a way, likes to kill. He gets a rush from it and feels no guilt. The Schofield Kid on the other hand is the opposite of that. He talks big and says that he has killed people before, but in fact this is his first hit. After he murders the second man he is terrified. He gives his gun to Will and says he will never kill again because of the pain it has caused him. Also, the western hero typically is an outstanding shot with a rifle and pistol. The Schofield Kid is not at all. He is almost blind which cause him to not be able to shoot a rifle with any sort of accuracy, and for this reason he can only kill at close range. These flaws that the Schofield Kid has is what Clint Eastwood is showing through this movie. The western heroes are not super humans, they are people who have problems like poor vision and do feel remorse for their actions.
