Creating A Safe And Inviting Classroom Environment Essay
In order to provide a safe and inviting classroom environment, students must be valued, appreciated,
and respected. Promoting diversity in the classroom allows students to explore different languages,
experiences, ethnic differences and the cultural perspectives of their classmates. Developing this type
of environment is equally as important as the classroom standard, and is often seen in schools with an
increased bilingual population. The school where I am currently working has a high Hispanic bilingual
population, and proves to me how diversity in the classroom can still breed success.
The Andrew T. Morrow Elementary School philosophy builds on a foundation promoting inclusivity
with the goal to marry cultural diversity with the classroom pragmatic. For this, each student
regardless of origin and/or language is given an equal opportunity to succeed in each academic
subject. Having observed in a classroom of eight year olds, nearly half of the class was bilingual.
Interviewing the lead teacher (quotes throughout are direct responses from the lead teacher) gave me a
better perspective on how her bilingual classroom operates. Before formally recording who these
children were, I noted how the physical classroom setting supported multiplicity. Posters, bulletin
boards, and a multi lingual library are only a few of the ways this teacher fostered cultural diversity.
Newssheets, field trip forms and school activity letters were (all) seen in both English and

Our Nation s Critical Infrastructure
In the past sixteen years the United States has seen significant changes to the national policies that
protect the population and its critical infrastructure. Two main agencies that arose from the 911
Attacks were the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Homeland Defense
(HLD). These two agencies are responsible for protecting countless potential terrorist targets, millions
of citizens, and the thousands of miles of U.S boarders. How can two government agencies protect so
many assets? This paper will explore the two agencies and identify key roles, responsibilities,
resources, and operations. It will highlight the efforts shared between the two agencies and provide the
authors own definition of the DHS. Lastly, this paper will identify our nation s critical infrastructure
and how it intertwines with the DHS and HLD, by discussing the resources needed to operate
successfully. These two agencies may be separate organizations but they have much more in common
than one might think. Let s begin by looking at the primary mission of each agency. According to
classroom text, The DHS is responsible for preparation of, prevention of, deterrence of, preemption of,
defense against, and response to threats and aggression directed towards U.S. territory, sovereignty,
domestic population, and infrastructure; as well as crisis management, and consequence management
(Week 1 Lesson). The DHS has a wide array of responsibilities that incorporates twenty nine

Boorstin On Dissent And Disagreement
Boorstin makes a profoundly wise distinction between disagreement and dissent. Right after World
war II (1945), the American Society experienced a great cultural change as minority groups started to
take a stand against discrimination. Such a stand bolsters Boorstin s statement that A liberal society
thrives on disagreement but is killed by dissension. Disagreement is the lifeblood of democracy,
dissention is its cancer. This description clearly relates to the society during the 1960s, for the
expression he uses, Dissent is the great problem of America today, is found in The Decline of
Radicalism which was published in 1969. Leading up to the 1960s, discrimination has only been a
disagreement, but in the 1960s, it became a dissension. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the Civil Rights Movement in full force, it was time the government took serious action, or the
cancer would spread. The ongoing racism at the time, made African Americans feel apart from others
more than ever. Such isolation can be visible in the complete negligence of the Brown v Board of
Education decision. Instead of following the Warren Court s decision of desegregating public schools,
in places like Little Rock Arkansas, schools were still segregated. The transfer from a disagreement to
disension marks a time in which African Americans led several protests that sparked national outrage.
The Woolworth Sit in, for example, had significant impact on the South as the sit ins successfully
desegregated lunch counters and other public places. The March on Washington which is the site of
Martin Luther King Jr. s I have a dream speech , convinced the government to take action concerning
the civil rights movement before more violence could occur. In the following years, The Voting Rights
Act of 1965 outlawed the prevention of black citizen class from voting, and seeing that they were
threatened to not vote in the south, the government provided federal oversight of elections in places of
evident discrimination. Boostin explains, that the liberal society...is killed by dissension, which was
the case during the Civil Rights Movement. If the government had not given African Americans more
rights, the cancerous side, continued widespread rebellions against prolonged unfair treatment, would
have destroyed the American

Handmaids Tale Rules In Life
Rules in Life Most people don t like following rules. Some people don t mind following rules.
Everyone can relate to the quote in The Handmaid s Tale A rat in a maze is free to go anywhere, as
long as it stays inside the maze. (165) We want to be free, but we have these walls around us that won
t let us do what we want. I believe that people are the rat and that the walls are rules. Over time people
figure that rules are walls that won t budge. This is all hard to understand right now, but in the future
people will understand what it means. People would be the rats in the maze because people are
moving around the world doing as they please inside of legal limits as if they are a rat in free to go
anywhere in a maze. Rules can be simple, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When people read the content around this quote, they will read that Ofglen and Offred are walking
around the city going in many different directions and making different routes around the city. The one
thing that they can t do, no matter how much they want to, is to leave the city all because of the laws
that the City of Gilead made. That is why I translated people as the rats, and rules as the walls in the
maze. The reason is that as people we want to have fun, do thing we never did, and go places we never
been, but because of some rules we cannot go to certain places, and do certain things. Just like the rat
in the maze. This translation of the quote has a personal aspect that most people can relate to. When
we were kids, we all want to go to a friend s house or a party, but we couldn t because our parents put
their foot down. It was their house and their rules, and we had to follow. When people were in their
teens, they just started to rebel and got in trouble for it. An example would be that if I got caught
drinking underage which most people did, I would be in serious trouble and probable couldn t go
anywhere after school till I graduated. That is why I didn t drink underage or get caught. I stayed with
the walls of the maze so that I wouldn t get in

The Help Ex De Texte Essay
I. SUBJECT The Help, by Kathryn Stockett, is story about the journey of a young woman, Skeeter,
standing up for what she believes in and following her dreams. This story is set in Jackson,
Mississippi during the 1960 s, which is the height of the Civil Rights movement period. The story is
through the viewpoint of three narrators: Skeeter Phalen, Aibileen Clark, and Minny Jackson. Skeeter
is the main narrator out of the three. She is a young white woman returning home after receiving her
journalism degree from Ole Miss. She is reuinited by her friends, Hilly Holbrook and Elizabeth
Leefolt.. After receiving a job at the Jackson Journal writing for the home cleaning section, she goes to

Because Celia grew up in Sugar Dutch, she does not have the same value influences like Elizabeth and
Hilly might have. Towards the end of Stockett s novel, Aibileen has grown older and is now caring for
two kids in the Leefolt house. Skeeter now tells Aibileen she has gotten a letter to go to New York and
work for Miss Stein. When she goes, someone will need to take over the Miss Murna columns at the
Jackson Journal. Here, Skeeter gives Aibileen the chance to take over for her. She also includes that
she will receive the same amount of pay as she did. To this, Aibileen responds, Me? Working for the
white newspaper? I go to the sofa and open thee notebook, see them letters and articles from past
times. Miss Skeeter set beside me (512) . This is Aibileen basically conquering the issue of racism.
The fact that Miss Skeeter put in such a good word about her that she got the job without an interview
says wonders. In The Help, there was also a minor theme. Skeeter demonstrated a quality most young
women do not obtain, which is sense of self or security. It s until after I mail the letter that I realize I
probably chose those ideas she would think to be impressive rather than the ones I was really
interested in (84) . Skeeter lists a variety of ideas that she would write about and mails it to Miss Stein,
part of Harper Row Publishing Company. Skeeter realized after mailing her

African Indigenous Religions Essay
Introduction
African traditional religions were the first recorded religions to grace the plains and coasts of Southern
Africa and possibly even the world. The earliest group of people living in Southern Africa has been
named the San people. It was thought that San etchings and implements found in caves dated back to
between 10 000 and 20 000 years ago (Deacon, 1999). However in 2008 the oldest art to date was
found in a cave in Still Bay in Cape Town, called the Blombos cave. It was named by Christopher
Henshilwood and dates back to 77,000 years (Wits, 2014). This rock art is the earliest depiction of
religious experience and belief.
A later group of indigenous people that existed in Southern Africa were the Bantu Speaking Farmers .

The San are polytheistic. They believe in one supreme god, who lives in the Eastern sky and one
lesser god who lives in the western sky (UNISA, 2010:138). They believe that this supreme god had

god is a trickster god called Kaggen who offers wisdom, plays tricks and plays tricks. He is believed
to come in many different guises, from an Eland (the most revered animal for the San), to a snake or a
bird, but he could also live as a San man. Traditionally a boy had to kill an Eland before he could be
considered a man.
The San had many phenomenological beliefs; they believed that their faith and offerings through song
and dance could affect the will of the gods. They often performed Trance dances to bring rain and
depicted these experiences by painting them on cave walls (Deacon, 1999).
Rock Art
This incredible art is found throughout Southern Africa in caves and rocky out crops which were
believed to hold power. The figures illustrate trance states, men in forward or backward bending

Preventing Attacks on New Network-Based Systems
Preventing Attacks on Nee Network Based Systems Introduction Recent changes in the organizational
structure of the IT system has left open needs for adjusting practices in order to address new demands
of protection. The organization has recently made the move from a standalone system to a network
based one, which facilitates greater cooperation and collaboration within the company and increasing
overall productivity. A network based system provides a more flexible structure to still function within
a diverse and multifaceted environment. It does so by the fact that within its structure, communication
between components is restricted to message passing, or the equivalent of message passing is a more
efficient mechanism can be selected at runtime based on the location of components (Fielding, 2000).
Network based systems allow communication and dissemination of information to occur seamlessly
without lag. This then further empowers individual employees of the organization with greater
technological tools. The research suggests that network based systems are those capable of operation
across a network, but not necessarily in a fashion that is transparent to the user, but rather as an
automatic process that increases the ease and productivity of each user while working on the system
(Fielding, 2000). As such, it comes with a wide variety of benefits to increase the productivity and
efficiency of the organization. Analysis However, with the implementation of a

The availability of flexible or part time secduleing if you need it, finances and student support services
and career placement services. That s the education behind a pastry chef. In this paragraph you re
going to read about salary ranges and geographic effects and how many hours required each week and
what typical day like in this career is and when you reach the career goal. For a pastry chef the salary
for a veteran pastry chef is between 30,000 dollars and 50,000 dollars it can go up to 60,000 dollars a
year but the 60,000 dollars are for experienced pastry chefs. For entry level pay it is 8.00 dollars an
hour. But the person who wants to own their own and operate his or hers own bakeries for their peers
salaries are 17,000 if successful. But for the geographic effects and how many hours required each
week are long days on your feet but those days consider getting paid. Some days you need to start
early like 3 or 4 am in the morning. But my opinion I think the longs weeks can be everyday working
even working on holidays. But to my opinion I think pastry chef s days can be hacked and very
stressful if you don t know what you are doing. But the pastry chefs that do it enjoy their job but if you
think this is easy it is no way in shape easy at all because you will have your boss looking over you to

Net Neutrality
Net neutrality is becoming a rising topic that could take the large community of internet users by
storm. Net neutrality according to Dictionary.com is: The principle that basic Internet protocols should
be non discriminatory. This definition by itself is very bland and leaves out many important details. I
agree whole heartedly with this idea of a truly open internet. Nobody questioned the free internet until
on January 14th, 2014, a federal court of appeals opposed the Federal Communications Commission
or F.C.C s Open Internet Order. This allowed for large internet companies, such as AT T or Comcast to

Ida B. Wells (1862 1931) was a newspaper editor and journalist who went on to lead the American
anti lynching crusade. Working closely with both African American community leaders and American
suffragists, Wells worked to raise gender issues within the quot;Race Question quot; and race issues
within the quot;Woman Question. quot; Wells was born the daughter of slaves in Holly Springs,
Mississippi, on July 16, 1862. During Reconstruction, she was educated at a Missouri Freedman s

Wells then moved to New York City, where she continued to write editorials and against lynching,

York Age, Wells became a very respected lecturer and organizer for anti lynching societies made up of
men and women of all races. She traveled throughout the U.S. and went to Britain twice to speak
about anti lynching activities.
In 1895 Wells married Ferdinand L. Barnett, a Chicago lawyer, public official, and publisher of the
Conservator. She settled in Chicago and adopted as her married name Ida Wells Barnett. After 1895
she limited her activities to Chicago, but she was quite active in Chicago s rapidly growing African
American community. In Chicago she wrote for the Conservator, published an expose of lynching,
The Red Record, and organized Chicago women regarding several causes, from anti lynching to

Diversity Management as a Business Strategy: A Literature Review
Emmanuel Emenike Williams
Course Name Number: GBUS 817
Instructor: Dr. Adrian Pitariu Date: December 11, 2014
Introduction
The face of business has been changing very rapidly from national to global environment over the
years through technological advancements (McFarlin Sweeney, 2013, p. 4). Emerging markets in
developing countries continue to provide tremendous business opportunities for big corporations and
multinational companies (McFarlin Sweeney, 2003, pp. 5 6). Consequently, many business
organizations have begun incorporating strategic measures in their operations to align with the
changing demands of a diverse global market. They acknowledge the fact that modern business
opportunities have grown beyond national walls. However, there is no absolute guarantee that setting
up international business ventures will automatically lead to better financial performance of a firm. It
comes with a challenge the challenge of incorporating workforce diversity and managing it efficiently
with a view to achieving steady growth in productivity, revenue and profitability. Recognizing the
enormous challenges of cultural differences and ideologies in cross national business environments,
McLauren (2009) believes that diversity management needs to be seen as the business plan, essential
to successful products and increased sales. This is essentially true in today s global

Social Actors And Organizations As One Working Unit
Blumer lastly notes that although many methodologies observe large social actors and organizations as
one working unit, this does not allow the understanding of how the organization functions.
Researchers should look at the individuals within the organization to see how those individuals fit
together and how they interact. The interactions of the people within the organization paint a picture
of how the organization functions and makes its decisions. Blumer sums up his essay perfectly by
saying respect the empirical world and organize a methodological stance to reflect that respect
(Blumer 1986, p. 60). Criticisms of Symbolic Interactionism As with any theory there are critics of
symbolic interactionism. One weakness of symbolic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His reasoning behind why he believes this is a bit confusing and does not fully explain why this data is
unreliable. He does explain that data created from a recreated world is not useable which is
understandable because it is not being taken from the real world, but he does not fully explain why
quantitative data taken from the real world is inherently wrong. He dismisses any validity it may hold.
This is also confusing for the reader because he is very vocal about testability. He sees testability as
important but throws out research types with clear testability. Many believe that Blumer s symbolic
interactionism lacks hard evidence and testability. A person interprets a symbol and acts how they
choose to act. This lacks the ability to be tested incorrect. Because this theory allows for the actor to
respond in any way they want, then the theory can never be proven wrong meaning there is no
testability (Melzer, Petros, and Reynolds 1975). Skidmore (1975) points out that Blumer s theory does
not account for why an actor will make the same choice in a given situation. This paper allows for the
assumption that every time an actor faces a situation they consciously interpret it and then make a
choice on how to respond. This does not account for the unconscious acts and feelings that go into an
action. Some actions are made without a full understanding of why

Afghanistan Today Is One Of The Most Violent And Unstable
Afghanistan today is one of the most violent and unstable countries in the world and is economically
and politically on its knees after decades of conflict. There are five main obstacles are preventing
Afghanistan from developing, which are high levels of corruption, crime, insecurity, drug trafficking,
and lawlessness (DFID, 2005). The current Afghan government is struggling to improve these issues
despite receiving billions of dollars of foreign aid. The Taliban governed Afghanistan from 1996 2001
after a devastating civil war and their rule was characterised by the wide spread human rights abuses
(Okin, 1998) and the mismanagement of the economy, education system and health care system
(Goodhand, 2000; Goodwin, 1998; Reyburn et al, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Strict laws were implemented which resulted in criminal activity drastically reducing in the country
(Rubin, 2000). Since the country had experienced years of conflict and lost its political institutions,
the Taliban felt that the population would not be as responsive to lenient and moderate laws compared
to strict laws that would reduce crime rates and act as deterrents (Hartley Blecic, 2000). The strategy
was successful in terms of reducing crime levels, but the punishments were often harsh (Goodson,
2001). When the Taliban were ousted in 2001, criminal activity increased drastically with the return of
organised crime gangs (Shaw, 2006). The Afghan government s attempts to tackle these problems
have not been as successful as the Taliban in terms of reducing crime levels (REF). This is partly
because the Afghan government has weak law enforcement and many corrupt government officials
have links to the crime gangs (Smith, 2016).
2. Corruption
Pre Taliban Afghanistan was plagued with corruption at all levels of society due to the weak rule of
law of the almost non existent central government and the power of the many corrupt warlords that
controlled most of the country (Payind, 1996; Rais, 1999). When the Taliban came into power, they set
up the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and the Eradication of Vice , which was tasked with
reducing corruption in the country (Wolfrum Philipp, 2002). The sweeping anti corruption measures

Grouping People Based on Stereotypes
Harold Evans once said, Attempting to get at truth means rejecting stereotypes and clichés . Yet at
some points stereotypes help us to gain a truth that would otherwise have to be learnt over and over
again, each time we encountered it. When trying to view the world, one must realise that by grouping
people based on stereotypes, they are allowing themselves to recognise different peoples, threats, ideas
and many other different aspects of society. Whether this grouping has any real basis or not is the
entire argument within this essay. Analysing this concept through theory of knowledge means that at
least two areas of knowledge need to be recognised. This essay will be discussing it through both a
human sciences perspective, more specifically with relation to psychology, and also the arts, through
film, something in which even recently stereotypes are very common. Extracting a knowledge issue
from this question is difficult as the topic is already so broad however for the purposes of this essay, a
few words within the title will first be defined. When defining stereotypes it needs to be spilt up to
function in both the psychological sense but also the area of film and literature. In psychology the
definition of a stereotype is a set of generalizations about a group of people or a social category. It
may be correct or incorrect. Mostly, these statements are exaggerated. However if we were to define
stereotypes in the arts then it would be different, as it would be more

Chaco Canyon is a historical site that is often forgotten but is still an amazing place to know about.
What was the history, the culture and why did the Chacoans build such immense structures that were
not occupied year round.
The Chacoans were a civilization that lasted from the 800s to the 1100s and were living across New
Mexico. They were an agricultural society that their main food source were the three sisters, corn,
beans, and squash. They also supplemented their diet with any animals they could catch.

The puzzling thing is that there is not a lot of organic waste in the refuse piles which means that the
Native Americans that we were living there we re not there all the time.

Cars And Truck Account For 20 % Of All U.s. Global Warming...
Cars and truck account for 20% of all U.S. global warming emissions, where more than 24 pounds per
gallon of carbon dioxide and other global warming gases come right out of the car s tailpipe ( Union
of Concerned scientists ). This frightening statistic is part of the reason why the federal government
has put in place many policies and incentives such as the Clean Air Act, The National Program for
greenhouse gas emissions, Catalytic Converter Federal Laws, and incentives of $12,000 in California
to get people to upgrade to more fuel efficient cars. With such programs and incentives put in places, it
is also important that car companies such as Toyota and Ford also take action to further cut pollution
rates. They have done so by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The pollutants that were controlled were carbon monoxide(CO), volatile organic compounds(VOC),
and oxides of nitrogen(NOx), where the NOx standard was 3.1 grams per mile (EPA). These three
pollutants can cause a wide variety of health issues, some of which include your brain not getting
enough oxygen, damage to the respiratory system, damage of lung function, cardiovascular problems,
and cancer ( Types of Air Pollution Caused by Cars ). Over the next couple decades car emission
control became stricter and standards tightened and evolved to .07 grams per mile of NOx in 2009
which is a 77% decrease from its previous standard of .3 in 1999. Alongside federal actions, California
has been leading the global fight against climate change.
California Governor Jerry Brown has a plan to put 1.5 million zero emission cars on the state roads in
the next decade and has signed 11 bills related to global warming. Some of these efforts include
15,000 permits for clean air cars to use car pool lanes, requirements for counties to speed up permits
for residential solar power installations, and rebates to lower income resident to buy more fuel
efficient cars. He enacted a law that requires California power companies to get at least a third of their
electricity from renewable resources by 2020. One of the largest incentives that Jerry Brown has put
into place has been rebates for upgrading to more fuel efficient cars, where the state of

Unexpectful Aspects In William Shakespeare s The Tempest
Unexpected discoveries have a profound impact on individuals, changing their perception of
themselves, others, their worlds and the current situation. As said by the scientist, Albert Szent Gyorgi,
unexpected discoveries are often made by looking at the same thing as everyone else and thinking
something different and are provoked by curiosity and wonder. Unexpected discoveries with profound
impacts are evident in William Shakespeare s tragicomic play, The Tempest (1610) where the
dethroned duke of Milan plots revenge against his enemies, but unexpectedly finds forgiveness.
Likewise, in William Golding s survival novel, Lord of the Flies (1954), features a group of British
schoolboys who crash land into an island and have to govern themselves. Unexpectedly, some of the
boys question the whole notion of civilisation.
After a period of isolation, human contact may lead to profound and unexpected discoveries.
Shakespeare s characterisation of Miranda as a naive girl creates a profound impact when Miranda
uses antithesis to describe her discovery of humankind: I might call him a divine, for nothing natural I
ever saw so noble , this discovery opens up a whole new world for Miranda as she falls in love with
Ferdinand. Prospero disapproves of Miranda s affection towards Ferdinand: What I say? My foot my
tutor? Prospero s verbal irony highlights the control that he has over Miranda and her perception of the
world as her father and tutor. However, Miranda s use of a

Social Justice B block
December 20, 2014 Before waging a war, it is always a good idea to think of what the possible
outcome could be in the situation; to look ahead before making an unalterable, life changing move. In
many cases, different people, not just religious, think of the Just War Theory as a plausible cause to
take a look at before sending troops to fight a war that deem not necessary to be fought. In the fall of
2001, September 11, it was a day in infamy, a day that will always be remembered. Terrorist members
attacked the United States through different tactics, and led to an almost never ending difference
between the nations. Just War is the theory that war must have a just cause, which means force may be
used only to correct a grave, public evil. It must also have the right intention, which means that force
may be used only for that purpose, only to correct a wrong doing. It must have legitimate authority:
only public authorities and officers have the ability to wage the war. It must have comparative justice
which means that the goods must outweigh the bads, no matter how bad the other side hurt you. The
probability of success must weigh in to it. How it will be effected overall how much destruction is
expected, how the goods are weighed out by the bads, etc. And finally, is it a last resort. That being
said, force can only be used after there have been peaceful alternatives. All of that being said, the
question of the United States being sent

Symbolism Of Danger In The Skeleton Key
Symbolisms of Danger After watching The Skeleton Key, director Iain Softley, portrays a young 25
year old female, Caroline Ellis attends nursing school that takes a job as a caregiver for a stroke
victim; living in a secluded, decrypted mansion, surrounded by a bayou in Terrebonne Parrish known
as: New Orleans. Consequently, while rummaging through the attic of the house, she comes across
some Hoodoo paraphernalia dating back to the 1920 s. Although; notwithstanding, after talking with
Violet Devereaux, the owner, Caroline still doesn t believe, decides to do some investigating of her
own on Hoodoo. Will she believe or will she still hold true to her own beliefs? Iain Softley did an
amazing job with all the specific objects, effects, sounds, and other details used to help intensify the
mood with anxiety, suspense, and horror. Until now, I ve not realized how the comparisons of these
items relate to symbolisms; how they play such a vital role in literature, lead to clues and nevertheless,
add meaning to the story. Moreover, The Lottery, Shirley Jackson, delineates a small village of 300
people on a clear, fresh summer day preparing for their traditional lottery. Anxious men and women
gather together smiling, talking about rain, crops and equipment; meanwhile, children collecting
stones had stated they broke into boisterous play (Jackson 1). All the while, waiting to hear the name
of the winner announced. Conversely, it has a twisted ending, resulting in a brutal

The Impact Of The Boston Tea Party
The colonists were angry and furious, the King was taxing everything. Every new tax made the
colonist s mad and made the King money. Son s of Liberty had the tax collectors scared, so they all
agreed to stop taxing, but that s not what the king wanted. The King made them keep taxing the tea
only. The colonist s were still very upset with the tea tax. That is what leaded to the Boston Tea party
(the tea act). The Boston Tea Party had the best impact on the colonists towards fighting for their
Independence. From my opinion Britain could have made things fair for everyone, but the King was
selfish.
The colonist s were very upset with Britain, because they won t stop taxing, but once they did stop
they only taxed the tea. That was not good for the colonist s. As the taxing of tea was still going on,
people were getting more and more furious each day. We must fight, I repeat it,sir,we must fight I
know not what course others may pursue, but as for me, give me liberty or give me death. Patrick
Henry (The Revolutionary War,15). The Son s of Liberty finally came through to help, they planned a
little plan and if all goes well we may have no tea taxes for good. ... Show more content on

Alexander Graham Bell And The Deaf People
Just as hearing people have their own culture, so do deaf people. Marriage is pretty normal for deaf
people who marry other deaf people. They would have the same challenges hearing people would
have in any relationship. According to Gallaudet University s Biology Department, at least 85% of
deaf people, marry another deaf person ( Marriages among the Deaf ). However, back in the late 1800
s, this was greatly discouraged, especially by a man named Alexander Graham Bell. He is most well
known for the invention of the telephone. However, most people do not know the story behind it. His
mother and wife were both born deaf. This led his interest into speech and hearing and encouraged
experimentation with hearing devices. He then started to teach deaf people how to speak orally
through a universal alphabet invented by his father called Visible Speech . He was one of the leaders
of the oralism movement in the deaf community. His goal was to ban sign language and remove it
from existence. He believes that if an individual was in America, they should only speak English and
participate only in American culture. Therefore, it worried him when he noticed that deaf people had
been forming such a tight knit group with their own language, clubs, social events, and through
marriage. He wanted to outlaw it all ( Signing, Alexander Graham Bell and the NAD ).
Bell was also very interest in heredity. He viewed being deaf as a major defect and wanted to correct it
through oralism and not

She was forty when SeaWorld killed her. Dawn Brancheau took blunt force trauma to the head, neck,
and torso before drowning. The SeaWorld trainer died doing what she loved, which was interacting
with orcas. The killer whale, Tilikum, attacked her.
Opening in 1964, theme park and entertainment company Seaworld has three locations: Orlando,
Florida; San Diego, California; San Antonio, Texas. SeaWorld s most popular attractions include their
orca shows, including One Ocean and Blue Horizons. Once an orca belongs to SeaWorld, it stays there
for the rest of its life.
SeaWorld should be shut down for its mistreatment of orcas.

Then, SeaWorld transports baby orcas to other parks, often too soon for it to be away from its mother.
Born September 25th, 1985 at SeaWorld Orlando, Kalina was the original baby Shamu. According to
British Divers Marine Life Rescue, Kalina was moved in 1990 to SeaWorld Ohio for 10 months,
SeaWorld San Diego for 8 months, then SeaWorld San Antonio. Kalina s mom, Katina, was never a
very vocal whale according to former SeaWorld trainer, Samantha Berg. After Kalina was taken away,
Katina stayed in the corner of a pool, shaking, screeching, and crying. There was nothing that you
could call that, watching it, besides grief, said Berg. In 1994, Kalina returned to SeaWorld Orlando.
Due to such a long absence, her mother ignored her for the rest of her life.
Captivity is detrimental to orcas health. According to PETA, less than 1% of orcas in the wild have
collapsed dorsal fins. A collapsed dorsal fin is a sign of depression, illness, injury, or dehydration. In
SeaWorld, 100% of captive male Orcas have a collapsed dorsal fin. Orcas are captured from the
oceans and thrown together in a pool. Though all have that signature black and white pattern, they are
not all the same. Neuroscientist Lori Marino discovered that orcas are highly emotional due to an extra
part of their brain that even humans do not have. An orca s sense of self is distributed among the
individuals in their

Progressive Income Tax
In America, we enjoy freedoms that we often take for granted. We have the power to decide things for
ourselves, such as our leaders, our rights, and our liberties. We have the ability to debate and evaluate
the effectiveness and the relevance of a law or bill, and we must use this power when it comes to the
methods of taxation. Currently, the US uses a progressive income tax as its means to raise revenue.
Deborah Lee and Richard A. Grant, in Counterpoint: Expanding Sales Taxes Helps the Rich, Hurts the
Poor, believe that a progressive income tax is the fairest and most constructive ways to fund the
government, and that such a tax benefits the poor more than a sales tax. Lee and Grant start their
argument with wisdom, declaring that government must have a way to tax their citizens. Political
establishments must have funds to protect, serve, and govern their people. This is the way it has been
since the beginning of time. Politicians often use tax code as a background for their campaign,
promising major changes. In order to determine the best ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They use figures to show to separate families of differing incomes. One has an income $12,000 and
another has an income $120,000. Next, they estimate a cost of living at $600 and $48 in taxes from a
state with an 8 percent sales tax. The low income family pays 4.8 percent of their income and the high
income family pays less than one half of one percent of their income. The point they are trying to
make is that a sales tax hurts the poor, and a progressive income tax does not burden the poor.
However, progressive income taxes might look like a good solution but they have hidden
consequences. Companies have to pay large amounts of money due to the income tax and they put that
hidden burden on their customers, driving prices up to cover the big business taxes. When the poverty
stricken buy something they are really paying the high business

Contribution Of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was born on February 17, 1807 in Portland, Maine (Novelist and Prose
Writers). He died at the age of 75 in 1882 after suffering from severe stomach pain. He was buried at
Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, Massachusetts along with his wives. His family was very
influential in the region. His father was a prominent lawyer. His maternal grandfather, Peleg
Wadsworth, held the position of general in the American Revolutionary War and also served as a

A Great Leader In Sophocles Oedipus The King
John Maxwell once said: A great leader s courage to fulfill his vision comes from passion, not
position. This quote explains that anyone can be a leader with or without having a highly position, as
long as he or she does it with devotion. According to Amy Rees Anderson from Forbes, a true leader
knows who they are and what they stand for. They know their values and the rules they will abide by,
regardless of the circumstances they face. Oedipus, the protagonist of Sophocles Oedipus Rex, is
clearly a good leader.
Oedipus has been a good leader to Thebes for many years even though he sometimes can be a bit
conceited. When Thebans go visit Oedipus to ask for help since they are experiencing a deadly plague,
he says: Each of you suffers in

The Things They Carried Passage Analysis
The Things They Carried
War is an ugly thing that tends to affect people in different ways and thus people cope in different
ways: Some people go insane, some become numb, some turn to drugs, and some process their
thoughts by writing. All of these responses are present in The Things They Carried. There is not
necessarily one right way to respond to the horrors of war, or life in general, but some insight can be
gained by comparing how different characters in the book coped and how they turned out. Different
responses exemplified by characters in The Things They Carried are writing, drug use, and loss of
humanity. These responses can give insight into different facets of human nature. One of the ways Tim

  • 2. Creating A Safe And Inviting Classroom Environment Essay In order to provide a safe and inviting classroom environment, students must be valued, appreciated, and respected. Promoting diversity in the classroom allows students to explore different languages, experiences, ethnic differences and the cultural perspectives of their classmates. Developing this type of environment is equally as important as the classroom standard, and is often seen in schools with an increased bilingual population. The school where I am currently working has a high Hispanic bilingual population, and proves to me how diversity in the classroom can still breed success. The Andrew T. Morrow Elementary School philosophy builds on a foundation promoting inclusivity with the goal to marry cultural diversity with the classroom pragmatic. For this, each student regardless of origin and/or language is given an equal opportunity to succeed in each academic subject. Having observed in a classroom of eight year olds, nearly half of the class was bilingual. Interviewing the lead teacher (quotes throughout are direct responses from the lead teacher) gave me a better perspective on how her bilingual classroom operates. Before formally recording who these children were, I noted how the physical classroom setting supported multiplicity. Posters, bulletin boards, and a multi lingual library are only a few of the ways this teacher fostered cultural diversity. Newssheets, field trip forms and school activity letters were (all) seen in both English and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Our Nation s Critical Infrastructure In the past sixteen years the United States has seen significant changes to the national policies that protect the population and its critical infrastructure. Two main agencies that arose from the 911 Attacks were the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Homeland Defense (HLD). These two agencies are responsible for protecting countless potential terrorist targets, millions of citizens, and the thousands of miles of U.S boarders. How can two government agencies protect so many assets? This paper will explore the two agencies and identify key roles, responsibilities, resources, and operations. It will highlight the efforts shared between the two agencies and provide the authors own definition of the DHS. Lastly, this paper will identify our nation s critical infrastructure and how it intertwines with the DHS and HLD, by discussing the resources needed to operate successfully. These two agencies may be separate organizations but they have much more in common than one might think. Let s begin by looking at the primary mission of each agency. According to classroom text, The DHS is responsible for preparation of, prevention of, deterrence of, preemption of, defense against, and response to threats and aggression directed towards U.S. territory, sovereignty, domestic population, and infrastructure; as well as crisis management, and consequence management (Week 1 Lesson). The DHS has a wide array of responsibilities that incorporates twenty nine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Boorstin On Dissent And Disagreement Boorstin makes a profoundly wise distinction between disagreement and dissent. Right after World war II (1945), the American Society experienced a great cultural change as minority groups started to take a stand against discrimination. Such a stand bolsters Boorstin s statement that A liberal society thrives on disagreement but is killed by dissension. Disagreement is the lifeblood of democracy, dissention is its cancer. This description clearly relates to the society during the 1960s, for the expression he uses, Dissent is the great problem of America today, is found in The Decline of Radicalism which was published in 1969. Leading up to the 1960s, discrimination has only been a disagreement, but in the 1960s, it became a dissension. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the Civil Rights Movement in full force, it was time the government took serious action, or the cancer would spread. The ongoing racism at the time, made African Americans feel apart from others more than ever. Such isolation can be visible in the complete negligence of the Brown v Board of Education decision. Instead of following the Warren Court s decision of desegregating public schools, in places like Little Rock Arkansas, schools were still segregated. The transfer from a disagreement to disension marks a time in which African Americans led several protests that sparked national outrage. The Woolworth Sit in, for example, had significant impact on the South as the sit ins successfully desegregated lunch counters and other public places. The March on Washington which is the site of Martin Luther King Jr. s I have a dream speech , convinced the government to take action concerning the civil rights movement before more violence could occur. In the following years, The Voting Rights Act of 1965 outlawed the prevention of black citizen class from voting, and seeing that they were threatened to not vote in the south, the government provided federal oversight of elections in places of evident discrimination. Boostin explains, that the liberal society...is killed by dissension, which was the case during the Civil Rights Movement. If the government had not given African Americans more rights, the cancerous side, continued widespread rebellions against prolonged unfair treatment, would have destroyed the American ... • 5. Handmaids Tale Rules In Life Rules in Life Most people don t like following rules. Some people don t mind following rules. Everyone can relate to the quote in The Handmaid s Tale A rat in a maze is free to go anywhere, as long as it stays inside the maze. (165) We want to be free, but we have these walls around us that won t let us do what we want. I believe that people are the rat and that the walls are rules. Over time people figure that rules are walls that won t budge. This is all hard to understand right now, but in the future people will understand what it means. People would be the rats in the maze because people are moving around the world doing as they please inside of legal limits as if they are a rat in free to go anywhere in a maze. Rules can be simple, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When people read the content around this quote, they will read that Ofglen and Offred are walking around the city going in many different directions and making different routes around the city. The one thing that they can t do, no matter how much they want to, is to leave the city all because of the laws that the City of Gilead made. That is why I translated people as the rats, and rules as the walls in the maze. The reason is that as people we want to have fun, do thing we never did, and go places we never been, but because of some rules we cannot go to certain places, and do certain things. Just like the rat in the maze. This translation of the quote has a personal aspect that most people can relate to. When we were kids, we all want to go to a friend s house or a party, but we couldn t because our parents put their foot down. It was their house and their rules, and we had to follow. When people were in their teens, they just started to rebel and got in trouble for it. An example would be that if I got caught drinking underage which most people did, I would be in serious trouble and probable couldn t go anywhere after school till I graduated. That is why I didn t drink underage or get caught. I stayed with the walls of the maze so that I wouldn t get in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Help Ex De Texte Essay I. SUBJECT The Help, by Kathryn Stockett, is story about the journey of a young woman, Skeeter, standing up for what she believes in and following her dreams. This story is set in Jackson, Mississippi during the 1960 s, which is the height of the Civil Rights movement period. Towards the end of Stockett s novel, Aibileen has grown older and is now caring for two kids in the Leefolt house. Skeeter now tells Aibileen she has gotten a letter to go to New York and work for Miss Stein. When she goes, someone will need to take over the Miss Murna columns at the Jackson Journal. Here, Skeeter gives Aibileen the chance to take over for her. She also includes that she will receive the same amount of pay as she did. To this, Aibileen responds, Me? Working for the white newspaper? I go to the sofa and open thee notebook, see them letters and articles from past times. Miss Skeeter set beside me (512) . This is Aibileen basically conquering the issue of racism. The fact that Miss Skeeter put in such a good word about her that she got the job without an interview says wonders. In The Help, there was also a minor theme. Skeeter demonstrated a quality most young women do not obtain, which is sense of self or security. It s until after I mail the letter that I realize I probably chose those ideas she would think to be impressive rather than the ones I was really interested in (84) . The earliest group of people living in Southern Africa has been named the San people. • 8. Preventing Attacks on New Network-Based Systems Preventing Attacks on Nee Network Based Systems Introduction Recent changes in the organizational structure of the IT system has left open needs for adjusting practices in order to address new demands of protection. The organization has recently made the move from a standalone system to a network based one, which facilitates greater cooperation and collaboration within the company and increasing overall productivity. A network based system provides a more flexible structure to still function within a diverse and multifaceted environment. It does so by the fact that within its structure, communication between components is restricted to message passing, or the equivalent of message passing is a more efficient mechanism can be selected at runtime based on the location of components (Fielding, 2000). Network based systems allow communication and dissemination of information to occur seamlessly without lag. This then further empowers individual employees of the organization with greater technological tools. The research suggests that network based systems are those capable of operation across a network, but not necessarily in a fashion that is transparent to the user, but rather as an automatic process that increases the ease and productivity of each user while working on the system (Fielding, 2000). As such, it comes with a wide variety of benefits to increase the productivity and efficiency of the organization. Analysis However, with the implementation of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For a pastry chef the salary for a veteran pastry chef is between 30,000 dollars and 50,000 dollars it can go up to 60,000 dollars a year but the 60,000 dollars are for experienced pastry chefs. For entry level pay it is 8.00 dollars an hour. But the person who wants to own their own and operate his or hers own bakeries for their peers salaries are 17,000 if successful. But my opinion I think the longs weeks can be everyday working even working on holidays. Net neutrality according to Dictionary.com is: The principle that basic Internet protocols should be non discriminatory. This definition by itself is very bland and leaves out many important details. I agree whole heartedly with this idea of a truly open internet. Nobody questioned the free internet until on January 14th, 2014, a federal court of appeals opposed the Federal Communications Commission or F.C.C s Open Internet Order. Consequently, many business organizations have begun incorporating strategic measures in their operations to align with the changing demands of a diverse global market. They acknowledge the fact that modern business opportunities have grown beyond national walls. However, there is no absolute guarantee that setting up international business ventures will automatically lead to better financial performance of a firm. It comes with a challenge the challenge of incorporating workforce diversity and managing it efficiently with a view to achieving steady growth in productivity, revenue and profitability. Recognizing the enormous challenges of cultural differences and ideologies in cross national business environments, McLauren (2009) believes that diversity management needs to be seen as the business plan, essential to successful products and increased sales. This is essentially true in today s global ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Social Actors And Organizations As One Working Unit Blumer lastly notes that although many methodologies observe large social actors and organizations as one working unit, this does not allow the understanding of how the organization functions. Researchers should look at the individuals within the organization to see how those individuals fit together and how they interact. The interactions of the people within the organization paint a picture of how the organization functions and makes its decisions. Blumer sums up his essay perfectly by saying respect the empirical world and organize a methodological stance to reflect that respect (Blumer 1986, p. 60). Criticisms of Symbolic Interactionism As with any theory there are critics of symbolic interactionism. One weakness of symbolic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His reasoning behind why he believes this is a bit confusing and does not fully explain why this data is unreliable. He does explain that data created from a recreated world is not useable which is understandable because it is not being taken from the real world, but he does not fully explain why quantitative data taken from the real world is inherently wrong. He dismisses any validity it may hold. This is also confusing for the reader because he is very vocal about testability. He sees testability as important but throws out research types with clear testability. Many believe that Blumer s symbolic interactionism lacks hard evidence and testability. A person interprets a symbol and acts how they choose to act. This lacks the ability to be tested incorrect. Because this theory allows for the actor to respond in any way they want, then the theory can never be proven wrong meaning there is no testability (Melzer, Petros, and Reynolds 1975). Skidmore (1975) points out that Blumer s theory does not account for why an actor will make the same choice in a given situation. This paper allows for the assumption that every time an actor faces a situation they consciously interpret it and then make a choice on how to respond. This does not account for the unconscious acts and feelings that go into an action. Some actions are made without a full understanding of why ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Afghanistan Today Is One Of The Most Violent And Unstable Afghanistan today is one of the most violent and unstable countries in the world and is economically and politically on its knees after decades of conflict. There are five main obstacles are preventing Afghanistan from developing, which are high levels of corruption, crime, insecurity, drug trafficking, and lawlessness (DFID, 2005). The current Afghan government is struggling to improve these issues despite receiving billions of dollars of foreign aid. The Taliban governed Afghanistan from 1996 2001 after a devastating civil war and their rule was characterised by the wide spread human rights abuses (Okin, 1998) and the mismanagement of the economy, education system and health care system (Goodhand, 2000; Goodwin, 1998; Reyburn et al, ... Since the country had experienced years of conflict and lost its political institutions, the Taliban felt that the population would not be as responsive to lenient and moderate laws compared to strict laws that would reduce crime rates and act as deterrents (Hartley Blecic, 2000). The strategy was successful in terms of reducing crime levels, but the punishments were often harsh (Goodson, 2001). When the Taliban were ousted in 2001, criminal activity increased drastically with the return of organised crime gangs (Shaw, 2006). The Afghan government s attempts to tackle these problems have not been as successful as the Taliban in terms of reducing crime levels (REF). This is partly because the Afghan government has weak law enforcement and many corrupt government officials have links to the crime gangs (Smith, 2016). 2. Corruption Pre Taliban Afghanistan was plagued with corruption at all levels of society due to the weak rule of law of the almost non existent central government and the power of the many corrupt warlords that controlled most of the country (Payind, 1996; Rais, 1999). • 17. Grouping People Based on Stereotypes Harold Evans once said, Attempting to get at truth means rejecting stereotypes and clichés . Yet at some points stereotypes help us to gain a truth that would otherwise have to be learnt over and over again, each time we encountered it. When trying to view the world, one must realise that by grouping people based on stereotypes, they are allowing themselves to recognise different peoples, threats, ideas and many other different aspects of society. Whether this grouping has any real basis or not is the entire argument within this essay. Analysing this concept through theory of knowledge means that at least two areas of knowledge need to be recognised. This essay will be discussing it through both a human sciences perspective, more specifically with relation to psychology, and also the arts, through film, something in which even recently stereotypes are very common. Extracting a knowledge issue from this question is difficult as the topic is already so broad however for the purposes of this essay, a few words within the title will first be defined. When defining stereotypes it needs to be spilt up to function in both the psychological sense but also the area of film and literature. In psychology the definition of a stereotype is a set of generalizations about a group of people or a social category. It may be correct or incorrect. Mostly, these statements are exaggerated. However if we were to define stereotypes in the arts then it would be different, as it would be more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unexpectful Aspects In William Shakespeare s The Tempest Unexpected discoveries have a profound impact on individuals, changing their perception of themselves, others, their worlds and the current situation. As said by the scientist, Albert Szent Gyorgi, unexpected discoveries are often made by looking at the same thing as everyone else and thinking something different and are provoked by curiosity and wonder. Unexpected discoveries with profound impacts are evident in William Shakespeare s tragicomic play, The Tempest (1610) where the dethroned duke of Milan plots revenge against his enemies, but unexpectedly finds forgiveness. Likewise, in William Golding s survival novel, Lord of the Flies (1954), features a group of British schoolboys who crash land into an island and have to govern themselves. Social Justice B Block Essay Hannah Somogie Social Justice B block December 20, 2014 Before waging a war, it is always a good idea to think of what the possible outcome could be in the situation; to look ahead before making an unalterable, life changing move. In many cases, different people, not just religious, think of the Just War Theory as a plausible cause to take a look at before sending troops to fight a war that deem not necessary to be fought. In the fall of 2001, September 11, it was a day in infamy, a day that will always be remembered. Terrorist members attacked the United States through different tactics, and led to an almost never ending difference between the nations. Just War is the theory that war must have a just cause, which means force may be used only to correct a grave, public evil. It must also have the right intention, which means that force may be used only for that purpose, only to correct a wrong doing. It must have legitimate authority: only public authorities and officers have the ability to wage the war. It must have comparative justice which means that the goods must outweigh the bads, no matter how bad the other side hurt you. The probability of success must weigh in to it. How it will be effected overall how much destruction is expected, how the goods are weighed out by the bads, etc. And finally, is it a last resort. That being said, force can only be used after there have been peaceful alternatives. All of that being said, the question of the United States being sent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
