Growing Up Digital By John Seely Brown
Along with the advancement of technology and increasing access to the Internet, distance learning ,
especially web based learning has gained popularity and reached an unprecedented level in terms of
the number of students enrolled in a single course. These online courses, MOOC (Massive Open
Online Course) , threaten to overthrow the traditional mode of teaching and learning by offering free
and accessible higher level education to the general public regardless of the students background or
financial circumstances. However, MOOC has accumulated criticisms questioning its ability to deliver
quality education that can be compared to its counterpart in classrooms. In Growing Up Digital , John
Seely Brown offers many ways to examine the effectiveness of MOOC in relation to its comparability
to the traditional teaching in classrooms, and evaluate the possibility of replacing traditional teaching
with full online courses.
Today s kids are always multiprocessing and often using multiple digital devices in lectures. Studies
have shown that digital technologies were creating an easily distracted generation with short attention
spans . Although their short attention spans parallel that of top managers , this often causes students to
miss instructions by the speaker . With the lack of attention paid to the speaker, students would not
gain a deep and thorough understanding of the lectures, much less gaining necessary knowledge and
skills needed to be in a top manager s

Argumentative Essay On The Causes Of Autism
There have been many institutes questioned, such as the Institute of Medicine, the Centers for Disease
Control, and the Food and Drug Administration. These agencies have found no linkage between
vaccines and autism. These agencies have conducted thousands of studies and have found no proof
that autism can be blamed on a child s immunizations. Opponents of these studies would like parents
of autistic children to believe that the results have been influenced. Some groups would like the rest of
us to believe that the government and the drug companies are influencing the outcome of the reports.
The Measles Mumps and Rubella vaccine receives the most study, this is because the link between the
vaccine and the onset of many children having autistic symptoms. This link may be just a coincidence.
The time most children receive their measles mumps and rubella shot is around three or four years of
age the same time many parents suggest that their child starts

having autistic symptoms or behaviors. People on both sides of the autism and vaccine debate want a
clear answer to the question WHAT Causes Autism? Many parents think that medical studies are not
asking the correct questions about autism. In a study, done by phone in 2007, parents were contacted if
they had children between the ages of four and 17. The survey done by Generation Rescue they

Sadly, there is NO cure for autism. It requires structure, routine, and patience s. Each child that

autism is very different from one person to the next. No two people with autism will act, look, or react
in the same way. Just like their treatment will differ from person to person. (Ezine

The Fight For Women s Rights
In pre civil war America women were thought of as subordinate to men and thus had less rights than
free black men. African American and White women had similar political positions and rights besides
the fact that white women could own slaves with their family. They even performed the same jobs
when it came to house work. Black slaves were thought of to have 3/5s a vote in the senate while
women had none. Abolitionist and anti slavery movements arose along with the thought that people
should rally to abolish slavery and give free slaves rights. It was never before a movement to fight for
women s rights and thus educated women began to realize they must fight for their own rights.

The first convention dedicated to women s rights was in Seneca Falls, New York in 1848. It spanned
both the 19th and 20th of July. This convention was run by two women, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and
Lucretia Mott and organized by Mary M Clintock. This event attracted approximately one three
hundred people, the majority being women. At this convention a modified draft of the Preamble to the
Declaration of Independence was drawn and stated, We hold these truths to be self evident: that all
men and women are created equal. The title of this modification is known to be Declaration of
Sentiments, Grievances, and Resolutions , written by Elizabeth Stanton. Thirteen resolutions were
made including that a man should not withhold a woman s rights, take her property or refuse to allow
her to vote, and sacred right of franchise. The revision of the Declaration of Independence received
signatures from female and male supporters. Sixty eight of the signers were women and 32 were men,
including Frederick Douglass. Although the Seneca Falls Convention was the first women s rights
convention in America, it was inspired by the World Anti Slavery Convention in 1840 in London. This
convention invited women but did not allow them to speak their opinions. Lucretia Mott expressed the
hypocrisy of this in her diary and thus sparked the beginning of the fight for

Different Approaches For Managing Information System
8.2 COMBINED DEVELOPMENT AND MAINTENANCE: Basically there are two approaches to
manage Information System (IS) Personnel. They are:  Combining the development and
maintenance into one part and is sub divided by functional areas.  Advancement and Maintenance
individually. Combining the development and maintenance of system: In this approach both
development and maintenance are combined to organize Information System Personnel (ISP).
Generally, functional area sub divides an area into teams. Each team is assigned to a system to
complete the requests of new development and maintenance. This approach appears to be logical as
the division between new development and adaptive maintenance is arbitrary. The advantages in this
approach includes:  Specialized and specific knowledge of functional areas.  Management of
systems is easy as each system is assigned to a team.  The system developers and maintainers are
same in this approach.  The development and maintenance continuity is a major advantage to
manage the ISP.  The experience of maintainers with actual development increases hence there is a
decrease in maintenance expenditure. Besides the advantages there are some disadvantages also for
this approach. The main disadvantage is the maintenance requests tends to be bottleneck to the
development cycle. This is because that maintenance is process of solving or omission of errors and
defects which is considered as urgent situation. At this point the development stage acts as

How Does The Amount Of Chewing Affect The Mass Of The Gum...
Analysis Intro and background info: For this lab, we tried to find out whether 10 minutes of chewing
bubblegum would increase or decrease the mass of the bubble gum. The mass of the bubblegum might
increase, because we are adding saliva to it, or decrease, because we are breaking the ingredients in
the gum down. Problem question: Our problem question was, How does the amount of time chewing
affect the mass of the bubblegum? Research: When we chew something, we break down the piece we
are chewing into smaller pieces, making what we are chewing easier to digest. The longer we chew,
the more enzymes in our saliva breaks down our food. Chewing is an important part of digestion, and
it s important to chew your food thoroughly. According ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Chewer B (Brallan) 8.4 grams 5.9 grams 4 grams 3.4 grams 3.1 grams 2.9 grams 5.3 grams Sources of
Error One source of error could have been that we didn t stop chewing when the timer/stopwatch
stopped. This could have affected our data because the bubblegum could have lost more mass than it
would ve if we only chewed for 2 minutes. For example, on our data table, at the 2 minute mark,
instead of 6.5 grams, if we didn t stop chewing, the mass could be 6 grams, making our data
inaccurate. Another source of error could have been that we didn t suck out all of our saliva from the
gum before removing it from our mouths and measuring the mass of the chewed gum. This could ve
affected the data because the saliva adds mass to the bubblegum, making our data inaccurate. Instead
of 6.5 grams at the 2 minute mark, it could have been 7

Video Consultations As Tools Of Clinical Evaluation
The current study analyses the potential of shorter video consultations as tools of clinical evaluation. It
also provides evidence in the later parts of the report of short video consultations being used to
accurately diagnose clinical disorders; discusses the scenarios where shorter consultations can be
profitably used and also explores the future implications of reducing clinical evaluation time. In the
current study, short video consultations are being studied as tools of asynchronous telepsychiatry. Ever
since the advent of telemedicine, telepsychiatry has taken great strides in embracing this useful and
efficient way of consulting patients. Synchronous Telepsychiatry (STP) has been used for more than
thirty years to make psychiatric experts available in areas with provider shortages. 1 It was in the year
2010, that a new study by researchers at University of California, Davis School of Medicine
established that psychiatrists could accurately assess patient s mental health by viewing stored
videotaped interviews. This method known as asynchronous telepsychiatry has now been adopted
worldwide as a convenient and economical alternative to face to face consultations.2 Contemporary
literature reflects the growing need to reinvent the traditional ways of practicing medicine.3 Accurate
clinical judgement is the goal of every physician s practice. Decision making deals with the processing
of information. Technological advances have allowed the current physicians to control

Children Of Single Parents Essay
Okay, Leo. My dad said as he pulled up to the building in his car. This is a safe place for you to stay.
Just. . . Don t do anything that would get you kicked out. Promise?
I ignored my dad in favor of staring at my new home. No matter how much Hephaestus would deny it,
he couldn t take care of me and was dumping me here. The sign on the ground read Children of Single
Parents. I got out of the car and analyzed the building. It was three stories high, yet it was pretty wide.
Kind of ugly looking. The American flag was whipping through the wind, its stripes curving in and
out.
My dad set my two bags on the ground before getting back into the car. He rolled down the window
and waved. Well, son. Enjoy your stay. Once I get settled down, ... Show more content on

I m sorry, ma am. She said. I am not allowed to give you permission to speak with your son. . . You
could send a letter. . . No, he would receive it. . .Good day ma am.
The lady put the phone back onto the receiver and typed something into her computer before she
turned her attention to me. She smiled, her pearly white teeth shining. Hello! You must be new here;
how can I help.
I nodded and cleared my throat before speaking. I m Leo Valdez. I m staying here, I think.
The lady nodded and typed some things into a computer before giving me a key and a map. You are
here, she said, highlighting our current position. Your dorm is over here. This is the library, cafeteria,

I nodded and collected my bags before heading to the direction I hoped my dorm was. It was about ten
minutes later when I realized I was lost. Great. My arms were tired, I was hungry, and I wanted to

Characters In The Breakfast Club
The Breakfast Club brings many types of peoples, and many types of personalities together. I
personally think I relate to all of them, not completely because they all have characteristics that I think
I also have. John is this bad kid who does and says whatever he wants to do. Claire is the pristine
goodie goodie. Allison is this strange girl who is considered to be a basket case. Andrew is the jock
whose main concern is westing. Brian is a depressed brainiac. Firstly, I relate to John because he
doesn t care what people think of him, and I typically don t try to listen to what people say about me.
John does whatever he wants and says whatever he wants to, and most of the time it gets him in
trouble. I sort of relate to that in a way because I do what I want to most of the time, but usually I
make sure what I say and do keeps me out of trouble. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I don t consider myself a goodie goodie, but I am not know to stay out of trouble. Another character
that I relate to is Allison. Allison is a strange high school student who is always on the outside and is

school, because I think I would be to afraid to be made fun of. The fourth character I relate to is
Andrew, the jock. Andrew is a wrestler and is always getting into fights with people at school. I
personally love volleyball and basketball. I do not relate to him in the fact that I do not get into fights.
I feel if I did get into fight I would relate to him more. The final character person I relate to is Brian,
the depressed brainiac. One reason I relate to Brian is that I consider myself smart. I do good in all my
classes and I find myself enjoying school. The part were I don t relate to Brian is with his depression. I
consider myself a happy person who wouldn t consider suicide, which in the movie Brian

The CSG has been shown to relieve women s care burdens to some extent in households (Patel

Job Experience In High School Job
A significant educational opportunity that was offered to me during my High School career is a job

alone get a job. My job experience, however, made me think differently. Being able to witness people
at work, who were not as smart as I am, who were making more money than me, really opened my
eyes. I realized that if I put my mind to it, I could be successful and earn a lot of money. The job
experience influenced me to finish high school, as well as provided me the inspiration to continue on

Define White Collar Crime
White Collar crime is not a crime unto it self, but instead a criteria that has to be met in order for a
crime to be considered as White Collar Crime; (Blount, 2002) hence the reason why Corporate Crime
is also considered as White Collar Crime. At the same time, White Collar Crime and Corporate Crime
can be seen as distinct criminological categories, however, in order to reveal this, this essay will firstly
be exploring Sutherland s definition of white collar crime and the perplexity with this definition of
white collar crime. It will then be looking at the modification which had to take place with Sutherland
s definition of white collar crime in order to established a distinction between white collar and
corporate crime. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, criminal behaviour is learned, and when this behaviour is been taught, it entails
techniques of committing the crime which at times can be complicated and other times quite simple;
the specific direction of the motives, drives, rationalisation and attitudes. (Newburn, 2013, pp. 394).
Although this theory is rarely used when theorising white collar crime, it is nonetheless an important
factor in many offending. For example, a study carried out by Geis of an electrical equipment
company found that a lot of manufacture encouraged price fixing by their employee as a way of
coping with market pressure. Geis pointed out that these activities was an established way of life
where those that are involved learns attitudes and rationalisation that favour and support such
misconduct. (Newburn, 2013). A second theory was given by Hirschi and Gottfredson, which is called
the Self Control Theory. This theory focus on human nature and the significance of gratification. The
central idea of this theory is that individuals peruse self interest and self gratification and the
avoidance of pain. In regards to this theory crime is seen as a way in which individuals maximise
pleasure and minimise pain. Furthermore, they argued that the differences that there are between those
that chooses not to be involved in criminal activities and those that choose to

Essay The Boys Versus Corporate
1. Describe the culture for race car drives. Race car drivers of course accept a lot of risk when they
compete in a race, and believe that in order to succeed they must take risks. Some risks include
crashes with other vehicles and possible loss of life, either from crashing their cars into into the other
vehicles, inanimate objects, or other people, as with the death of Kevin Ward Jr. (Daft / People.com)
At the same time, race car drivers receive an adrenaline rush from racing. They receive this rush from
the super fast speeds, and pushing themselves and their cars to the edge. (Daft)

4. How can the NASCAR organization, team, and sponsors work through issues of ethics and values
to create a unified culture? Often those who aren t at the front lines don t understand the issues being
faced. The corporation must first understand the safety concerns the drivers face, and validate those
concerns as legitimate. That would go a very long way to helping the drivers feel better about the
corporation. Next, the corporation should scale back its qualifying all cars against the clock decision.
While exciting for the fans, the same action can be felt with fewer cars. The corporation should also
find a way to work with the drivers so they know they are more than just assets to the company; they
are actual people and are risking their lives for the corporation s profit. I think once the relationship is
mended between the corporation and the drivers, many of the other issues will fix themselves.

more of their resources to developing web based software applications.
Web based applications provide a platform for better project communication and collaboration without

The United States Progress and Henry Ford Automobile Industry
What made the United States the great and successful nation that it has grown to be? Well there are
multiple events, innovations, and ideas that were contributing factors to the growth of this country.
Making it out on top of World War One, World War Two, and beating the great depression definitely
made the nation stronger in the long run, or as the famous quote would put it; what doesn t kill you
makes you stronger. But those events aren t what this paper is about, the genius inventions and ideas
from great Americans such as Henry Ford are what really allowed the country to become what it has.
At the start of the 20th century Henry Ford sought after a way to quickly and affordably assemble a
motor vehicle that would be viable and feasible to the working middle class of America. By
constructing and designing the Ford Model T, he was able to change the way American s commute
from 1908 to present day. The production of the affordable Model T changed the face of American
travel evermore.
Tin Lizzie, T Model Ford, Model T Ford are all different nicknames for one of the most important
productions of the 20th century, the Ford Model T. Vehicular transportation is the most common
means of transportation in our society. Automobiles are everywhere today in the United States; not
just the most common, but we have evolved to make automobiles our most reliable means of
transportation. The Ford Model T changed the life of his employees for he paid them a wage to

My Career Of Nursing
As a child, there were many professions that I wanted to be, and the one I found the most captivating
was nursing. Although I knew that nursing would be a challenge, I knew that I had to pursue that
specific career. Mainly because when I was in 5th grade, my father was always in and out of the
hospital, due to multiple conditions. Throughout the past 6 years, it has been motivating and
encouraging me to have the capability to help those who are in need. Also growing up, I found that
helping others fulfills my heart gives me gratification. Along the way, I have picked up a few tricks
about healthcare and my well being. Aside from nursing, some other personal goals of mine s is to
have my own family, and to move to my dream city of San Diego. Mid way through my high school
years, I started to volunteer at the Sutter Health CMPC California Campus, as an assistant nurse. In
my assigned unit, my job was to facilitate and help assist the elderly with a condition called Alzheimer
s. For my first couple of months, I help feed the elderly and play learning activities that stimulates the
brain. Soon after that, I was assigned to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, which was the nursery. I
enjoyed it delightfully as every week, I would go in and prepare rooms for Vaginal or C sections, aid
mothers and prepare families for their newborn child while providing useful information for new
parents.. I continued to volunteer for a little over a year and took a short program at school. At school I
learned how to do CPR which was a long process but now i m CPR certified by The Red Cross. This
volunteer experience was a stepping stone for me to explore my career path and will allow me to
experience what I want to do in life. Becoming a nurse is one of the three goals I have. The other goal
I would like to accomplish in life is to have a family of my own. Growing up, I never had the perfect
family or the typical family that my friends had. My parents were together up until this year, it was a
rocky ride but it didn t work out between them over the years. My high school experience was already
tough, before they separated but after that, I did not have much hope. I did not think I could continue

The Issue Of Team Self Management Essay
Literature Review: Self Management
The issue of team self management is one of great interest in today s complex environment, it seems
many businesses are restructuring themselves in an attempt to modernize and stay relevant. Some of
the most successful organizations in modern times were nothing more than an idea a decade or two
ago, with names like Facebook and Zappos. Part of this successful startup culture includes
decentralization of decision making, often leading to a more flexible and employee friendly work
environment. More traditional organizations are taking note of this trend and studying it or
implementing it themselves.
Other common terms for the idea of organizational decentralization include: team self management,
self management, shared control, distributed leadership (Lambe, Webb, Ishida, 2009) and holacracy
(Robertson, 2007). While these terms may have small differences they all describe the common theme
of distributing power across organizations. Several concepts help to explain why decentralization and
the encouragement of teamwork throughout an organization are often superior to traditional
management structure.
Many types of studies have been conducted and share the common outcome that performance is often
better within the workplace when outcomes are judged as a team rather than specific individuals.
Additional studies have been shown than teams are more likely to come up with effective and
necessary management tactics than appointing a

A Brief History of The Soviet Union Essay
The Soviet Union; regarded as the evil empire by United States President Ronald Reagan was one of
the most controversial country in the world. It operates as a single party state with the Communist
Party as the central government. From 1922 to 1991, Russia was enrich with the Marxist theory,
attempting to promote social equality by resolving it through a series of practical and theoretical
measures. The idea eliminated the social hierarchy and yearn towards a government that guaranteed
low prices and fair wages which was impossible to adopt under capitalism. To achieve the ideas of the

Social development in the Soviet Union was primarily based on propaganda such as education, arts,
science and feminism where people consciously believed that the Soviet Union had made adequate
reforms to promote a better quality of life.
Education in the Soviet Union was the foundation for future generations of communist. The transition
from a monarchy to a socialist state was a bitter change for the people and made it hard for the
Bolsheviks to keep under control. Thus, education was crucial to raise younger generations with
communist ideologies and to preserve a long lasting communist regime in Russia. The after effects of
the world war and Soviet invasion of neighboring countries forced millions of children to be self
raised and wander aimlessly to strive for a living. The Soviet Union invested millions of dollars for
educational programs that would limit the number of illiterate children, at the same time, educating
them about the socialist ideology and soviet reforms.
The arts were used as a form of propaganda to lure people to the greatness of the communist ideology.
Theaters were infiltrated by performing the new Soviet society where everyone lived in harmony.
Theater productions focused on contemporary life in the Soviet Union using symbolism such as the
industrialization of public life to achieve a modern prosperous lifestyle.
Motion picture in the Soviet Union was not equipped with the same level of modern filmmaking

You re impossibly fast and strong. Your skin is pale whit and ice cold. Your eyes change color and

putting pieces together that Edward Cullen is a vampire, but can vampires actually be real in real life?

Griffin and his wife had just arrived back home after grocery shopping that night. They were
unloading the groceries out of the vehicle and when Griffin was on his way back out to the vehicle,
that s when Chase drove by and shot and killed Ambrose Griffin with the same .22 caliber gun he used
to shoot into the Sacramento women s house. It was later found out the Chase decided to commit a
drive by shooting as a practice round before his killing got worse.
After the first murder, Chase went through a phase of being an intruder. His theory was if someone s
house was unlocked then it was their way of saying he was welcome, but if the house was locked then
he took it as he was not welcome. This intruder phase lead up to his second murder of Teressa Wallin,
22 years old and 3 months pregnant. Her husband was not home at the time of the murder. Teressa was
taking out the garbage and left the door open, so Chase then went into her house and surprised her
when she came back in. The police found her with several gunshot wounds, stab wounds from a
butcher knife, many of her internal organs were taken out, and dog feces were packed into the victim s
mouth. It was also found out the Chase had raped the victim post mortem. After Chase committed
these actions, he then bathed in the blood of the victim and drank some of her blood out of a yogurt
container.
Chase s next murder case was what would be considered a mass murder. On January 27th, 38

Character Analysis Of Eleanor Catton s The Luminaries
In 1866, many people had dreams to make fortunes from the gold rushes around the world. The main
character in The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton follows this same dream. The story follows Walter
Moody on his adventure at a place called Hokitika with a common dream; to become a rich gold
miner. Upon his arrival, he is immediately introduced to an investigation of a mysterious crime. With
this knowledge, Moody has to follow the speculated ideas of the town members to try to piece
together and put apart the dream and the reality. Throughout the novel, Moody becomes more trusting
and gets an ambition to help the people. Walter Moody advances in the community of Hokitika
through accepting the reality making him more trusting and ambitious with his goals of helping the
town while letting go of the dream he previously held.
During the beginning of the novel, Walter Moody has a dream to make a fortune through digging gold
out of the mines in the town Hokitika. Upon his arrival he finds himself in the middle of a group of
people trying to piece together the incident that had occurred on the night of the 14th of January.
Moody does not trust this room of people. This is seen as he holds simple information from them, like
he did with a man named Balfour who was trying to find out what issues he was facing. He would
hide information constantly by saying things like The particulars are delicate (Catton 24). Moody, who
is still skeptical of the people, keeps to himself throughout

Dalai Lama Beliefs
Tibet is located to the south west of China, bordering India, Nepal, Burma and Bhutan. Originally,
Tibet was made up of 3 provinces: U Tsang, Kham and Amdo. The mainstream religion in Tibet is
Tibetan Buddhism, different than regular Buddhism. Tibet was ruled by the Dalai Lama, a political
and spiritual leader for the Tibetans. The practices of Tibetan Buddhism are part of the Tibetan people
s culture and are incorporated into their everyday life. This way of life is one that values all beings on
Earth and is followed by very few people around the globe. Today, Tibet is not governed by the Dalai
Lama, and the practice of Tibetan Buddhism is diminishing. On October 9, 1950, China invaded the
country of Tibet. The Chinese, under communist rule, overthrew the Dalai Lama as a political leader.
Since then, the Tibetan people have set up a government in exile that still helps with some Tibetan
problems. The Chinese, however, are the ones who own Tibet s borders and control the government.

Human Trafficking Policy Summary
This policy was monumental in the fight of human trafficking because it formalized the overall U.S.
policies through an emphasis on prevention of severe forms of human trafficking, prosecution of
traffickers, and protection of victims both domestically and internationally. The Trafficking Victims
Protection Reauthorization Act of 2003 amended the TVPA of 2000, which directed the President to
launch programs of border interdiction outside the United States by providing grants to foreign NGOs
that provide for transit shelters functioning at key border crossings. Border guards, officials, and other
law enforcement officials are educated and trained to (1) identify traffickers and victims of severe
forms of trafficking; (2) treat victims appropriately; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

among U.S. government employees and contractors. (Wyler) Lastly, on September 2012, President
Obama issued Executive Order 13627 strengthening the protection against persons in federal courts.
This basically enforces that the FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulatory) reviews existing contractor
procedures for preventing human trafficking to include prohibitions on misleading or fraudulent
recruitment practices. Throughout the years the United States have committed to combating various

Grace Paley Father
Grace Paley is an American writer and poet that is best known for her short stories that portray the
everyday life of ordinary people. The short stories that are to be analyzed are Samuel, Mother, and A
Conversation with my Father. The common component shared between these three stories is the
history of everyday life and how individuals deal with it. Grace Paley lived through some of the world
s most historic events, and watched society and the people around her gradually change as she got
older. Paley has been able to study and observe the everyday lives of men and woman for many years
and successfully exemplifies this in her writing. The purpose of this author study is to understand what
influenced Grace Paley to write these stories and what message she wanted to get across to all of her
readers. The purpose is also to fully comprehend her stories and to see how they could be related to

writing when she was in her teens and was heavily influenced by W. H. Auden, who she also studied
poetry with. After college she then became an outspoken activist that supported feminism, anti war,
and anti nuclear demonstrations and became very involved with her local politics. It would be a world
without militarism and racism and greed and where women don t have to fight for their place in the
world (Paley). Paley believed in world peace and wanted everyone to be treated equally. Paley had a

Characteristics Of Machiavelli
To be an efficient ruler they must possess the ability to project beast like attitude, with this correlated
with this is the justification of a ruler for breaking his word, this idea only applies if doing otherwise
will place a ruler at a disadvantage within his society. These two characteristics are inevitable and
imperative to rulers if they hope to be successful. For a ruler, presentation is key to leading a
successful society. They must learn to be Half man, half beast. Machiavelli points this out in The
Prince through an allegory, Chiron is a centaur who was a teacher to other princes. He demonstrated
the need for rulers to develop both characteristics, that of a man and beast. This idea is essential
because Machiavelli thought of men by nature as deceptive liars, who would take advantage of a ruler
and his power if they sensed a submissive attitude (P.54). This could be a consequence of not
exhibiting that beast like quality, which could later place not only the ruler, but society as a whole at a
disadvantage.
Isaiah Berlin, author of the article A Special Supplement: The Question of Machiavelli , further
justifies this concept by explaining: The pagan world that Machiavelli prefers is built on recognition
of the need for systematic guile and force by rulers, and he seems to think it natural and not at all
exceptional or morally agonizing that they should employ these weapons wherever they are needed
(P.35). Because the book was written in the 16th century when

The Effects Of Hormones On The Body
Especially in this present time and an increase in technology, people are unknowingly exposing
themselves to harmful mutagens and agents that can cause a variety of health problems. This has
become an increasing problem regarding reproductive health in men and women. Xenoestrogens are
synthetic chemicals that mimic estrogen in the body. (Fertility Health.com, 2008 2015). What is
interesting about estrogen in the body is that it is present in the male and female body, but usually only
associated with female hormones. Xenoestrogens disrupt hormone regulation causing a variety of
health problems. It is even starting to be found in babies at birth, proving that there are outside sources
of this agent getting into our bodies and causing harm (Fertility Health.com, 2008 2015). In men, an
overload of estrogen, produced in excess because of the presence of xenoestrogens, can cause
infertility by a low sperm count and erectile dysfunction. Not only can it cause infertility, but it can
also cause an enlargement of the prostate and even prostate cancer. The extra hormone production can
also cause female like breast growth (Fertility Health.com, 2008 2015). Xenoestrogens are especially
dangerous for men because it is not expected and causes completely unnatural effects, but that also
makes for easier detection. In women, xenoestrogen causes ovulation disorders, ovarian cysts, breast
cancer, polycystic ovary syndrome and endometriosis (Fertility Health.com, 2008 2015). Breast

The Day of Judgment According to Islam, Christianity and...
Everything that exists today such as life on earth is known to eventually come to an end. Most
religions believe in the day of judgment and it is generally defined to be the day that God judges the
moral worth of the individual humans or the whole human race. Judaism, Islam, and Christianity are
three of the worlds largest religions that have created controversy between many countries over how
they view some aspects of religion such as the day of judgement.
In Islam, the day of judgement is broken down in many stages and is known as Qiyama . Muslims
believe that one day they will all be standing in front of Allah (swt) and will be judged for the way
they live their lives on earth. It is learned from Muslim scholars that all around the world people will
hear loud trumpets. When the first blowing of the trumpet takes place every life such as humans,
animals, and even plants, will taste its death. All of existence will cease to exist except for Allah (swt).
During the second stage, all souls will come back to life by returning to their bodies. During this stage
all life is being prepared to stand in front of the Lord of the universe. Every living thing will be
confronted of the deeds they commit in throughout their life on earth in Allah s (swt) court of justice.
The all mighty Allah (swt) will be the sole judge on this day of reckoning. Whoever believes in the
Allah (swt) and did righteous good deeds within their lives according to Allah s (swt) guidance, will

Researching right kind of market into which to expand is important for a number of reasons.
Papadopoulos and Denis (1988) explain: Firstly, it can determine the relative success or failure of the
new business venture, particularly if this is the first time a firm is expanding internationally. Secondly,
target market selection can influence the development and the type of external marketing done. Third,
the geography and local environment of the new markets may affect the firm s potential to further
expand and co ordinate its foreign operations; and, (d) establishing bases at appropriate foreign
markets can be a key ingredient in the firm s global competitive positioning strategy
Although undertaking such vital research seems almost like basic common sense, examples of firms
making embarrassing and costly mistakes in international business are so numerous that one Professor
has written several books detailing them all. He explains,
The foreign environment has been especially difficultfor some to analyze. Many mistakes, for
example, havebeen made because managers have failed to rememberthat consumers differ from
country to country. Buyers, influenced by local economic constraints and by local values, attitudes, and
tastes, differ in what they buy, why they buy, how they buy, when they buy, and wherethey buy.
Managers who have failed to recognize thesedifferences

Italian Unification Italy 1930 s
Italians have been an intragyral part of American history since the founding of the country and its
exploration of the New World. Italian immigration surged from the 1870 s to the 1930 s due to few
economic opportunities and political suppression in Italy. Italy officially became a country in 1861 but
before unification Italy consisted of small city states that were governed by small clans.
Nationalization created a disproportion of wealth from the industrialized north to the rural
overcrowded agricultural areas in the south. Over taxation by the Italian government made it hard for
rural southern Italians to own land or get ahead. Since the Civil war in the United States left a need for
cheap labor, this was a perfect opportunity to many southern

Seismic imaging technology: Seismic imaging is a tool that bounces sound waves off underground

The American Justice System Is Corrupt
Do you believe that everyone should be free? Well the thing is that America is really taking that away
from people who have done something wrong even when it s for petty stuff like writing a bad check.
Some stuff is understandable like murder or other stuff, but some is outrageous. The American prison
population has been absolutely ridiculous; it s crazy for the U.S. To have such high prison rates. The
more you know about it the more frustrating it gets, and if you ask almost anyone you would think so
too. The only people who might agree are big business s owners like American Express and Bank of
American. The American justice system is corrupt.
In the 80 s, the rising number of people locked up as a result of the War on Drugs and the wave of
privatization that occurred under the Reagan Administration saw the rise of the for profit industry.
Prior to the 80 s, private prisons did not exist is the US. In a 2011 report by the ACLU, it is claimed
that the rise of profit prison industry is a major contributor to mass incarceration, along with the
stuffed state budgets. Louisiana, for example, has the highest rate of incarceration I in the world with
the majority of its prisoners being privatized prisons, profit facilities. Such institutions could face
economic failure without a steady influx of prisoners. A 2013 Bloomberg report states that in the past
decade the number of inmates in for profit prisons through the U.S. Rose 44 percent. Corporations
who operate prisons,

  • 2. Growing Up Digital By John Seely Brown Along with the advancement of technology and increasing access to the Internet, distance learning , especially web based learning has gained popularity and reached an unprecedented level in terms of the number of students enrolled in a single course. These online courses, MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) , threaten to overthrow the traditional mode of teaching and learning by offering free and accessible higher level education to the general public regardless of the students background or financial circumstances. However, MOOC has accumulated criticisms questioning its ability to deliver quality education that can be compared to its counterpart in classrooms. In Growing Up Digital , John Seely Brown offers many ways to examine the effectiveness of MOOC in relation to its comparability to the traditional teaching in classrooms, and evaluate the possibility of replacing traditional teaching with full online courses. Today s kids are always multiprocessing and often using multiple digital devices in lectures. Studies have shown that digital technologies were creating an easily distracted generation with short attention spans . Although their short attention spans parallel that of top managers , this often causes students to miss instructions by the speaker . With the lack of attention paid to the speaker, students would not gain a deep and thorough understanding of the lectures, much less gaining necessary knowledge and skills needed to be in a top manager s ... • 3. Argumentative Essay On The Causes Of Autism There have been many institutes questioned, such as the Institute of Medicine, the Centers for Disease Control, and the Food and Drug Administration. These agencies have found no linkage between vaccines and autism. These agencies have conducted thousands of studies and have found no proof that autism can be blamed on a child s immunizations. Opponents of these studies would like parents of autistic children to believe that the results have been influenced. Some groups would like the rest of us to believe that the government and the drug companies are influencing the outcome of the reports. The Measles Mumps and Rubella vaccine receives the most study, this is because the link between the vaccine and the onset of many children having autistic symptoms. This link may be just a coincidence. The time most children receive their measles mumps and rubella shot is around three or four years of age the same time many parents suggest that their child starts 6 having autistic symptoms or behaviors. People on both sides of the autism and vaccine debate want a clear answer to the question WHAT Causes Autism? Many parents think that medical studies are not asking the correct questions about autism. The survey done by Generation Rescue they compared rates of autism and other neurological disorder in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sadly, there is NO cure for autism. • 4. The Fight For Women s Rights In pre civil war America women were thought of as subordinate to men and thus had less rights than free black men. African American and White women had similar political positions and rights besides the fact that white women could own slaves with their family. They even performed the same jobs when it came to house work. Black slaves were thought of to have 3/5s a vote in the senate while women had none. Abolitionist and anti slavery movements arose along with the thought that people should rally to abolish slavery and give free slaves rights. It was never before a movement to fight for women s rights and thus educated women began to realize they must fight for their own rights. The fight for women s rights and suffrage is an ongoing ... The first convention dedicated to women s rights was in Seneca Falls, New York in 1848. It spanned both the 19th and 20th of July. This convention was run by two women, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott and organized by Mary M Clintock. This event attracted approximately one three hundred people, the majority being women. At this convention a modified draft of the Preamble to the Declaration of Independence was drawn and stated, We hold these truths to be self evident: that all men and women are created equal. The title of this modification is known to be Declaration of Sentiments, Grievances, and Resolutions , written by Elizabeth Stanton. Thirteen resolutions were made including that a man should not withhold a woman s rights, take her property or refuse to allow her to vote, and sacred right of franchise. The revision of the Declaration of Independence received signatures from female and male supporters. Sixty eight of the signers were women and 32 were men, including Frederick Douglass. Although the Seneca Falls Convention was the first women s rights convention in America, it was inspired by the World Anti Slavery Convention in 1840 in London. This convention invited women but did not allow them to speak their opinions. Lucretia Mott expressed the hypocrisy of this in her diary and thus sparked the beginning of the fight for ... • 8. Different Approaches For Managing Information System 8.2 COMBINED DEVELOPMENT AND MAINTENANCE: Basically there are two approaches to manage Information System (IS) Personnel. They are:  Combining the development and maintenance into one part and is sub divided by functional areas.  Advancement and Maintenance individually. Combining the development and maintenance of system: In this approach both development and maintenance are combined to organize Information System Personnel (ISP). Generally, functional area sub divides an area into teams. Each team is assigned to a system to complete the requests of new development and maintenance. This approach appears to be logical as the division between new development and adaptive maintenance is arbitrary. The advantages in this approach includes:  Specialized and specific knowledge of functional areas.  Management of systems is easy as each system is assigned to a team.  The system developers and maintainers are same in this approach.  The development and maintenance continuity is a major advantage to manage the ISP.  The experience of maintainers with actual development increases hence there is a decrease in maintenance expenditure. Besides the advantages there are some disadvantages also for this approach. The main disadvantage is the maintenance requests tends to be bottleneck to the development cycle. This is because that maintenance is process of solving or omission of errors and defects which is considered as urgent situation. At this point the development stage acts as ... • 9. How Does The Amount Of Chewing Affect The Mass Of The Gum... Analysis Intro and background info: For this lab, we tried to find out whether 10 minutes of chewing bubblegum would increase or decrease the mass of the bubble gum. The mass of the bubblegum might increase, because we are adding saliva to it, or decrease, because we are breaking the ingredients in the gum down. Problem question: Our problem question was, How does the amount of time chewing affect the mass of the bubblegum? Research: When we chew something, we break down the piece we are chewing into smaller pieces, making what we are chewing easier to digest. The longer we chew, the more enzymes in our saliva breaks down our food. Chewing is an important part of digestion, and it s important to chew your food thoroughly. According ... This could have affected our data because the bubblegum could have lost more mass than it would ve if we only chewed for 2 minutes. For example, on our data table, at the 2 minute mark, instead of 6.5 grams, if we didn t stop chewing, the mass could be 6 grams, making our data inaccurate. Another source of error could have been that we didn t suck out all of our saliva from the gum before removing it from our mouths and measuring the mass of the chewed gum. This could ve affected the data because the saliva adds mass to the bubblegum, making our data inaccurate. Instead of 6.5 grams at the 2 minute mark, it could have been 7 ... • 10. Video Consultations As Tools Of Clinical Evaluation The current study analyses the potential of shorter video consultations as tools of clinical evaluation. It also provides evidence in the later parts of the report of short video consultations being used to accurately diagnose clinical disorders; discusses the scenarios where shorter consultations can be profitably used and also explores the future implications of reducing clinical evaluation time. In the current study, short video consultations are being studied as tools of asynchronous telepsychiatry. Ever since the advent of telemedicine, telepsychiatry has taken great strides in embracing this useful and efficient way of consulting patients. Synchronous Telepsychiatry (STP) has been used for more than thirty years to make psychiatric experts available in areas with provider shortages. 1 It was in the year 2010, that a new study by researchers at University of California, Davis School of Medicine established that psychiatrists could accurately assess patient s mental health by viewing stored videotaped interviews. This method known as asynchronous telepsychiatry has now been adopted worldwide as a convenient and economical alternative to face to face consultations.2 Contemporary literature reflects the growing need to reinvent the traditional ways of practicing medicine.3 Accurate clinical judgement is the goal of every physician s practice. At the same time, White Collar Crime and Corporate Crime can be seen as distinct criminological categories, however, in order to reveal this, this essay will firstly be exploring Sutherland s definition of white collar crime and the perplexity with this definition of white collar crime. (Newburn, 2013, pp. 394). Although this theory is rarely used when theorising white collar crime, it is nonetheless an important factor in many offending. For example, a study carried out by Geis of an electrical equipment company found that a lot of manufacture encouraged price fixing by their employee as a way of coping with market pressure. Geis pointed out that these activities was an established way of life where those that are involved learns attitudes and rationalisation that favour and support such misconduct. (Newburn, 2013). A second theory was given by Hirschi and Gottfredson, which is called the Self Control Theory. This theory focus on human nature and the significance of gratification. The central idea of this theory is that individuals peruse self interest and self gratification and the avoidance of pain. In regards to this theory crime is seen as a way in which individuals maximise pleasure and minimise pain. Some risks include crashes with other vehicles and possible loss of life, either from crashing their cars into into the other vehicles, inanimate objects, or other people, as with the death of Kevin Ward Jr. (Daft / People.com) At the same time, race car drivers receive an adrenaline rush from racing. How can the NASCAR organization, team, and sponsors work through issues of ethics and values to create a unified culture? Often those who aren t at the front lines don t understand the issues being faced. The corporation must first understand the safety concerns the drivers face, and validate those concerns as legitimate. That would go a very long way to helping the drivers feel better about the corporation. Next, the corporation should scale back its qualifying all cars against the clock decision. While exciting for the fans, the same action can be felt with fewer cars. The corporation should also find a way to work with the drivers so they know they are more than just assets to the company; they are actual people and are risking their lives for the corporation s profit. I think once the relationship is mended between the corporation and the drivers, many of the other issues will fix themselves. ( Bibliography ( Daft, Richard L. • 20. The Issue Of Team Self Management Essay Literature Review: Self Management The issue of team self management is one of great interest in today s complex environment, it seems many businesses are restructuring themselves in an attempt to modernize and stay relevant. Some of the most successful organizations in modern times were nothing more than an idea a decade or two ago, with names like Facebook and Zappos. Part of this successful startup culture includes decentralization of decision making, often leading to a more flexible and employee friendly work environment. More traditional organizations are taking note of this trend and studying it or implementing it themselves. Other common terms for the idea of organizational decentralization include: team self management, self management, shared control, distributed leadership (Lambe, Webb, Ishida, 2009) and holacracy (Robertson, 2007). While these terms may have small differences they all describe the common theme of distributing power across organizations. Several concepts help to explain why decentralization and the encouragement of teamwork throughout an organization are often superior to traditional management structure. Many types of studies have been conducted and share the common outcome that performance is often better within the workplace when outcomes are judged as a team rather than specific individuals. Additional studies have been shown than teams are more likely to come up with effective and necessary management tactics than appointing a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These two characteristics are inevitable and imperative to rulers if they hope to be successful. For a ruler, presentation is key to leading a successful society. They must learn to be Half man, half beast. Machiavelli points this out in The Prince through an allegory, Chiron is a centaur who was a teacher to other princes.
