The Impact Of Divorce On Family
Introduction
The words from the Bible, therefore, what God has joined together, let no man separate have been
habitually used during weddings throughout history. Stepping into the 21st century, those words have
not been faithfully lived up to, evident through the numerous counts of divorces in society. Divorce
can be defined as the legal dissolution of a marriage by a court order and in this generation, is seen as
the norm. Apart from race, other major predictors of divorce include age at marriage, education,
premarital births and religion. (Bartolic, Martin, White, 2013). Divorce often tends to be thought of in
a monolithic way, as if everyone who gets a divorce goes through the same process. The impact of
divorce on the well being of children have been notoriously viewed with a negative lens for many
years due to possible risk factors that may affect children and their upbringing as they navigate
through life as their parents separate. However, families have the ability to strengthen and bounce
back even stronger with more knowledge through these experiences. This paper thoroughly discusses
the impacts of divorce and its effects on family structure and the ways in which families can
collectively work together to overcome crises and be resilient. This includes the many protective
factors that help families overcome their challenges and adversities such as positive social
interactions, personal protective factors, and belief systems in which all of these aspects encompass

The Theory Of Knowledge Is Power
Adonis Perez Professor Anderson Sociology 1 April 30, 2015 Sociology Paper Knowledge will
forever govern ignorance and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with
the power which knowledge gives James Madison In layman s terms, the quote above means to say
that knowledge is power. That whoever knows the most will be in control. This concept of power is
seen in all aspects of society worldwide. In every nation, the man that knows how to work the law to
his benefit will basically get away with anything, which is seen in the courts on a daily basis.
Someone with a higher degree of knowledge, and strong enough tenure, manages the way individuals
get educated. It is part of our reality, and in order for things to change; there must be a change in the
already instilled system. The solutions to the ongoing problem are through Ethnomethodology, which
relates to Mehans Five Features of Reality: reflexive activity, a coherent body of knowledge,
interactional activity, fragility of reality, and the permeability of reality, or through Conflict Theory.
However, even with these two methods of possible change, the possibility of change actually
occurring is slim to none. Society has complete and utter control on the individual. This can be seen in
any group of individuals ranging from the youngest to the oldest. When society has been shaped
through the mass mainstream media it forces the individual to follow in the same steps as everyone
else. If society

Similarities Between King Jr And Malcolm X
The King Stands Tall The black civil rights movement struggle of the 1960s was a long and sometimes
bloody battle for the rights of African Americans to be recognized as equal to their white counterparts.
The civil rights movement had many organizations that were led by prominent figures whose methods
in fighting for their rights differed. Amongst the most famous and successful contributors are Martin
Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. This paper will examine these two individuals methods and determine
which of their approaches was the most effective towards gaining equality.
Malcolm X was a civil rights leader who advocated for the use of violence when it came to fighting
for equal rights of his people. His most famous quote was whatever means necessary which meant that
a person could do whatever he wanted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Martin grew up in a middle class family which upheld Christian values. The fairly peaceful
environment and Christian values which advocate for turning the other cheek meant that King had the
mind of a nonviolent person, and this was demonstrated throughout his life. For example, when his
house was bombed he did not react violently but instead called for empathy and understanding for the
perpetrators of these actions towards him and other people from the African American community.[1]
Occasionally, one develops a conviction so precious and meaningful that he will stand on it till the
end[2].
So which of the above leaders and methods had the greatest impact in the push for equal rights for
African Americans? Although Malcolm X had a great influence on the outcome of the civil rights
movement, he later renounced his violent ways after a visit to the Middle East and started advocating
for nonviolent activism. Even though he had argued against King s nonviolent methods, he was finally

Lexical And Axical Analysis Of Interpreter Of Maladies
Interpreter of Maladies is a collection of nine short stories. The stories are about the Indians, caught
between the culture they have inherited and the one, they have to adapt. All the stories almost remain
the same in themes yet ideas differ in their perspectives. They present Indian immigrant people in
different and variant roles and situations. Being herself the child of immigrant parents, living in the
United States, Lahiri s characters are also portraiture of such people, torn between two different
national identities.
All the works of Lahiri have been appraised through many doctoral thesis, dissertations and research

Personal Narrative On San Francisco
During the summer of 7th grade my mom and I went on a trip to san Francisco that showed me how
real untreated mental health issues, homelessness, and drugs are. I always knew that bad communities
existed and they re not safe but I never knew what they really looked like. That was until my mom and
I accidentally walked through the tenderloin. The Tenderloin is one of the most infamous parts of San
Francisco. The whole city of San Francisco is a crazy and beautiful place that I learned how many
people suffer from drugs, crime, poverty and homelessness. It was about 70 degrees outside and fog
engulfed the city. As my mom and I were walking back from the Fishermen s Wharf. I turned to my
right and heard dubstep playing so I looked to my right and saw a gorgeous trans man in pumps
dancing gorgeously. That was before we took a wrong turn into what was one of ... Show more content

It was just out in the open. My mom s eyes were wide open. I could feel the tension between her and I.
I ve never been so shocked by the sight and smell of something before. My nostrils stung with the
smell of urine and feces. At the time I didn t know we walked through the Tenderloin and that it was
the most infamous neighborhood in San Francisco until my mom said so. My mom laughed nervously
Ha! We just walked through the Tenderloin... Let s just pretend that never happened. After that
encounter I saw the underbelly of society as a more fascinating and serious issue. I couldn t help but
want to hear these people s stories and want to know what brought them here but in a non judgemental
way. The more I walked around San Francisco, the more I saw the homeless. Some of them it was
clear that they were so mentally ill they couldn t get a job. There were others who didn t have the
money or resources to get into rehab. I thoroughly enjoyed our trip but it opened my eyes to the reality
of society and that I should be grateful for the things I

Arranged Marriages In Sixteenth Century England
In sixteenth century England, marriages were usually arranged. This seemed like a great idea at the
time because both families would benefit from the marriages, often with increasing wealth or property.
Even though most people already knew their spouse before they were married, it must have been
tough for them not to have any choice in who would become their husband or wife. Divorces were a
foreign concept to these ancient people, though occasionally marriages would be annulled, or declared
they had never been valid. We are no less careful in our marriages than people in the sixteenth centre,
yet annulling a marriage was way less common back then. That says a lot about us. In spite of the fact
that a wide range of people had no say in their spouse, kings were an exception. Since kings could
marry whoever they wanted whenever they wanted, a lot of them probably had a large amount of
wives. Arranged marriages were about as normal in the sixteenth century as iPhones are in the twenty
first. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Lady Jane Grey, while being young in the novel, was later married to Lord Guildford
Dudley. Many girls in the royal family married as young as twelve years old! This could be a huge
downside to being a princess or queen. Edward s sister Mary, more famously known as Bloody Mary,
was also married, to Philip II of Spain. Royal queens are an exception to the behind the scenes, meek
and submissive woman that was not uncommon during this time period. Edward s father, King Henry
VIII, was known for his many wives. This is an example of how a king can marry whoever he desires.
In this time, wives were considered to be a man s property, which is why some of his wives had such
horrible fates. That, and the fact that he WAS the king, so he could do whatever he wanted. Mark
Twain included lots of arranged marriages in his novel, The Prince and the

Why did moral reform movements gather strength in the...
In the mid to late 1800s, a great moral reform movement swept the nation of America. Men, Women,
Slaves, people who had never been admitted to influence the religious sector of the Nation were now
standing up, and making their voices heard. A patriots History says, There were transformations of
attitudes about social relationships, health, prisons, education, and the status of women and African
American slaves.... [This] grew into a substantial Jacksonian reform movement. This moral reform
movement was driven by three main beliefs, or Isms. These were Communal ism, Feminism, and
Abolitionism, all leading us up directly to the Civil War Without the dissent caused by these new
movements, it is quite possible that the Civil War would have ... Show more content on

This rejection of traditionally held values in regard to women, led to the very next Ism, Feminism.
Feminism was a Utopians dream because it advocated greatly expanded roles for women. By the time
of the precedent setting New York State court case Mercein v. People in 1842, women had gained
many other rights. In Mercein vs. People a woman was awarded custody of children for the first time
in history. Up till this point women had gained property rights within marriage in several Ohio and
Mississippi Valley states, and the trend was spreading, fast, and divorce became slightly more
prevalent, with the legal grounds increased. With the growth of the Industrial Revolution, women were
given work opportunities, and with a rising demand for teachers more and more women were
becoming educated in institutions. Nursing jobs also became popular. In1849, Elizabeth Blackwell
received her M.D. degree from the Medical Institution of Geneva, N.Y., becoming the first woman in
the U.S. with a medical degree. All these causes lead women, inevitably, towards feminism, a socio
religious and socio political philosophy born at the end of the Age of Jackson. Feminism was affecting
moral reform, and was right there at the heart. These women activists pushed and shoved till they got
their way. The final force was the Declaration of Sentiments at Seneca Falls, New York on 1848.

open Snort rule set. However, the group produces ruleset that is compatible with both Snort and
Suricata currently. The ET rulesets have the capability of producing a professional ruleset (ET Pro). In
professional ruleset, each item contains a rule portion that is enhanced for Snort, a rule portion that is
enhanced for Suricata and an aware portion that is shared by both engines. The certified rule set for
Snort is created by the Sourcefire Vulnerability Research Team (VRT) (Sikorski Honig, 2012). The

For instance, Mat Olney reflected on the benefit of multi thread and argued based on internal testing of
Snort against Suricata with rules loaded. Suricata runs at 200 MB/Sec while Snort with rules hit 894
MB/Sec with no drops.
Studies
Reflecting on several previous studies that have been carried out to compare the performance of the
two NIDS, indicated Snort to be efficient in various issues. For instance, the comparison of Snort
version 2.8.5.2 to Suricata version 1.0.2 was a clear indication of the strength of each system engine
when subjected to the protection of the network. Their testbed incorporated the Ubuntu 10.04 which is
a Virtual device accommodated on a VMWare Terminal 6.5 virtual setting operating on a 2.8GHz
Quad Core Intel Xeon CPU that had a 3GB RAM. The research was examining the quickness of
detection and the accurateness of under changing rates of network and CPU usage (Albin, 2011). The
control of the CPU used the Cpulimit with Tepreplay controlling the network bandwidth. The alert
signals was accomplished by introducing six unknown malware that was created using the Metaspoilt
framework. The results characterized Snort being efficient with system properties as compared to
Suricata, but when functioning in a multi CPU setting Suricata was extra efficient as a result of fewer

Dulce Et Decorum Est Figurative Language
Wilfred Owen s Dulce et Decorum Est (1917) is one of the most famous poems to appear from the
ranks of the soldier poets who fought during the WWI. He reacts to the war, showing that reality is
contaminated and dishonored, changing conventional poetic techniques into something that appears to
be rather ordinary on the outside. In the poem, Owen shows the critical versions of reality by using
figurative language, imagery, and irony.
First of all, the author uses simile, which is one form of figurative languages, to support the idea of
exhaust and pain during the war which contradicts the belief that it is sweet and honorable to die for
your country. Bent double, like old beggars under sacks, knock kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed
through sludge. (Owen, 1917, stanza 1, line 1 2) From this quote, it is able to infer that participating
war is wearing since the soldiers walk countless miles, which Owen himself compares the them as
beggars and hags. But someone still was yelling out and stumbling. And flound ring like a man in fire
or lime. (Owen, 1917, stanza 2, line 3 4) This quote describes the soldier that could not wear ... Show

tell them that war is glorious. The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est Pro patria mori. (Owen 1917, stanza
4, line 11 12) This is the true reality that Owen wanted to reveal. He is stating that it is not sweet and
admirable to die for their country. This also is sarcastic what people believed was like to die in a war

On Dumpster Diving Lars Eighner
Lars Eighner s On Dumpster Diving describes the lifestyle of living out of a dumpster.
Eighner makes use of a tone and presents an usually unseemly topic in a compelling and comical light.
His general claim is that it is possible to survive well outside the housed community of the average
citizens. Eighner brings a perspective on scavenging for food and goods that differs from the typical
knee jerk reaction to dumpster diving. In his essay, Eighner discusses American waste as well as the
true art of scavenging and the lessons he learned through this experience. Eighner attempts to explain
and rationalize the reasons for dumpster diving. As he explains the art of scavenging, he exposes the

The Future Of Us China Relations Essay
China Rising is a non arguable fact and the one of the most important subject in the twenty first
century. The rise of China is a relative threat to the neighbor regions or other great powers. Further,
some scholars also comment that China either will replace or has already superseded the United State
as the world s only superpower. China s growth is too rapid and massive that other nations have
limited or no opportunity to compete with it. By using international relations theories to analyze US
China relations, there are three main stream theories commonly using to explain this case: Realism,
Liberalism, and Constructivism. In addition, in the article The Future of US China Relations
composed by Aaron L. Friedberg, professor of politics and international affairs, he comments that
people predict US China relations with two different views optimistic or pessimistic. However, which
international relation theory applies this political phenomenon the best is still debatable. This paper
will argue that the conflicts between the two nations are normal while China is growing, because the
conflicts are derived from different perspectives. Pessimistic realism and optimistic liberalism are two
main points that will be addressing when approach to this critical issue. Finally, the main argument in
this paper is to show why pessimistic realism will eventually prove to be accurate and true to explain
the future of US China relationships. When encounter the issue of US China

Descriptive Essay On The San Juan Mountains
Every place has a taste. My highschool tastes bland, and a little bit like a cracker beginning to go stale.
My home tastes like sunlight on autumn leaves. Every place has a taste, but I will never forget the
taste of the majesty of the San Juan Mountains.
The first time I laid eyes upon the San Juan Mountains, I couldn t believe that I was only a few miles
away from the cold desert that is Colorado. The further into the rugged mountain range the highway
led me, the more awe and disbelief fell upon me. I felt small, and as if I was the first person to ever
discover those hidden valleys that support entire ecosystems of plants and animals. The scattered puffs
of cloud above me painted shadows along the razor edged peaks, giving an appearance of a mural,
rather than massive chunks of rock carved away by the centuries. I could hear nothing except for the
pounding of far off waterfalls and the whispering of the pines, who shared secrets that nobody but
they would ever know. I felt like an intruder, and yet welcomed. I was lost, but at home.
Around a bend, and out of the blue, there came a town. Even so far from the nearest city, the town was
butsling. Main Street was lined with colorful buildings restored from the Victorian era. A two floor
hotel, elegant even in it s old age, announced its presence at the corner of an intersection. The stout
brick walls stood fortified, defying the valley winds. The occasional house could be seen through the
tightly packed boutiques, shops, and art galleries. One was baby blue and white, another, the color of
dried saffron. Further on down Main Street, natural hot springs revealed themselves. People of every
age packed into the heated pools. A vicious game of volleyball had commenced, and more people
were flocking to the net even in the second it took to drive past. Eventually, the quaint Main Street
ended, and the highway led the car through several switchbacks that twisted up the side of the valley.
At the top, a weather worn sign named the town Ouray , and the sight below was one to behold. Ouray
spread through the bowl formed when rivers and mountains collide, spreading to the edges until not a
shed more could ve been built. But the highway kept leading, and the car kept

My Sister Letter
It is difficult to even begin this letter, little sister, because I simply don t know where to start. We have

that I have done in my attempts to shield you, you have seen them upset. You have seen them weep.
You have seen them scream. You have watched our mother starving herself, disappear for hours at a
time after haphazardly throwing about words of death. You have watched our father shut down, sleep
for days, become frustrated at himself and at the world. You have sat with your brother and I in a
police car as our father was taken to prison, cried without understanding as our mother wept, hidden as
we have hidden. You were pulled into this world without wanting any of this, without knowing it, and
only with our brother and I to guide your confusion as you came into the middle of the crisis. The
problem is well, the problem is that since our parents are

The Moral Attributes Of Friendship
Friendship is a type of love called philia that is fundamentally grounded in both a common interest
and a desire for each other s well being. The moral attributes of both individuals that are involved are
significant in their friendship. According to Aristotle in Nicomachean Ethics, it is because of these
moral attributes that we were friends (149). Morality is a set of ideals that should be strived for
because they are helpful to humanity. Moral changes occur when people begin to or stop doing these
ideals. Is it ethical to depart from a genuine friend due to a change in morality, for better or worse, by
either party? In most other situations, it is immoral to depart a friendship because philia is a patient,
but still conditional, form of love. In necessary situations, Aristotle argues that ending a relationship is
reasonable. If the members of a genuine friendship change morally, it should lead to departure. This
conclusion assumes that people can change themselves ethically and that people who are a part of a
genuine friendship can end their relationship.
A reasonable problem with this thesis is the possibility that any declared friendship, which is not
necessarily genuine, that ends with departure must have never been a genuine friendship to begin with.
If it is true that legitimate friendships cannot be broken, then it follows that even a change in morality
that alters the friendship itself cannot lead to departure unless it was never a friendship after all.
However,

Charles Dew s Apostles Of Disunion
The central thesis of this book is that the secession commissioners that were sent Deep South to other
slave states in the winter of 1860 1861 played a major role in defending as well as urging people to
subscribe to their ideology and follow them out of the Union. This thesis helps in giving insights in the
South s real intention, which can be argued out that it was to defend its slave trade culture that the
North was totally against hence the use of secession as a means of convincing people. Even though the
historians mostly ignore these men that were involved in the secession, these men played a vital role
in the creation of the beautiful country ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is very vital as it helps one to understand their real intention prior to going to the war and if it had
any impact on their perception of things. The nature of the text also makes it easy for the target
audience to grasp what they are being told. To begin with most of the students do not really like very
long and detailed books, for this reason the author that is Dew makes the text to be just eight pages
this makes it very easy for majority of the target audience to read it clearly as well as it evokes their
real intention to clearly interact with the content this is explained the fewer number of pages. The style
of writing is another key thing that makes it very easy for anyone to understand the text used in this
particular case. It is very easy and jargon free. This makes it very easy for both scholars and members
of the general public to interact with it without challenges. The representative documents are well
chosen in that they can start off conversations among people. There are various themes that are well
outline in this book, some of these themes include the one on secession and its impact, another one is
the theme of slavery and slave trade and finally the theme of war is also much highlighted. Depending
on one s level technicality as well as understanding, the three themes may be able to be viewed in
various aspects. The existence of appendix and a minimum of notes make it appealing to the students

symposium Bellows and the Body , event that saw an evening lecture on Thursday November 3rd
presented by Professor David Peters Corbett, and the main symposium on the following day (Friday
4th November). The two days focused on the new Bellows collection acquired in 2014 by the Barber
Institute, which also created a microsite within their own website for Bellows exhibition named
Bellows and the Body on their own website (see weblink for more info: http://barber.org.uk/bellows
and the body/).
Dr John Fagg, Director of the School of American and Canadian Studies at the University of
Birmingham, has been a crucial figure in organising this event as curator of the exhibition and British
expert of American art, together with the director of the Barber Institute Nicola Kaminsky, who made
possible the realisation of the exhibition and the event related.
The evening lecture held by Prof. Corbett gave an excellent introduction to the topic with his evening
lecture by presenting Bellows mutual themes with the Ashcan School, due of them being the
relationship between the artists and New York City. The lecture opened with Bellows Stag of
Sharkeys; the incredible visual impact of this painting is enough for the viewers to engage Bellows art,
and their eyes are drawn to the two men colliding in the middle of the painting who represent both the
thrill and the horror of violence. The visual

Essay on Civilization Versus Savagery in Golding s Lord of...
Man has demonstrated that he is master of everything except his own nature. This quote from Henry
Miller demonstrates that even the best of people can be tempted and twisted by their own nature. Like
the symbolic pig’s head stuck in the calm forests clearing, all beauty and innocence can be mutated
when order is overthrown by impulse actions. In William Golding’s novel, Lord of the Flies, a central
theme exists demonstrating the deterioration of civilization, and the overpowering of savagery, leading
to the abandonment of moral thoughts and actions within a person. The beauty of the island is burned
away slowly as the fiery demon of savagery attempts to overwhelm the boys. The beauty of the island
symbolizes the charm of law and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Piggy acts as a conscience when rumors of ghost and monsters are spread, and he ends the gossip by
explaining ghosts are not logical or scientific, meaning they do not exist. Piggy uses his smarts to
make sundials for the boys to keep track of the time, and with Ralph’s combination of leadership, the
two boys begin to form what looks like the beginnings of a civilized camp. Civilization exists in the
children, as they follow Ralph’s initial commands and help build the first shelter. They don not fully
understand why they act civil, but their morals passed on by parents or self growth guide them during
the first portion of the book. Golding uses the combination of Ralph and Piggy to show the roots of
civilization, and the peace that morals bring, and the other boys to show the balance factor of feeling
obligated to act civil. They use law as a protective companion, making rules for only speaking when
holding the conch, to prevent yelling and fights. Jack even shows a civil side to his mind, when first
establishing their camp, crying out, We’ll have rules! Lot’s of rules! (33) The fact that Golding
would show that Jack, the symbol of savagery, has some civil thoughts, indicates that he is conveying
the idea that civilization exists in even the most immoral people. Jack retains a sense of moral
propriety and behavior that society leaves impressed on a person. Rodger, the

Management vs Leadership
Management Leadership
Management and leadership are two of the most important positions to have for anyone in an
organization. Both of these positions come with a great deal of responsibilities; however, they both
serve two different purposes and responsibilities in an organization, along with a different sent of
guidelines.
Leadership
Leadership is a wonderful quality for anyone to have because not everyone possesses leadership
qualities and skills; however, a person can learn to have leadership qualities if he or she has the desire.
A good leader has many excellent qualities such as; a leader has followers, knows how to encourage
the workers, can get results by implementing strategies, can create a vision for the company, and ...

Leadership, in contrast, focuses on challenging and inspiring people. Management and leadership have
to work together to make sure the goal is achieved.
According to Stephen R. Covey, Management is problem oriented and leadership is opportunity
oriented .
A successful organization cannot exist without both strong leadership and great management. It is
important to remember that most people are not born with natural leadership skills and qualities, but
leadership can be learned and developed.
Conclusion
Management is clearly different from leadership. S. R. Covey, but I think it does not mean one is less
important, than the other. Covey wants us to understand, that leader is not only a position. However, it
takes an excellent leader and manager to be able to fulfill the leadership and management role
successfully for the benefit of the company and his or her people in all aspects of the business fields.
Therefore, every company, big or small, must have people, whom they can depend on, whole
heartedly, who can fulfill the leadership and management

Effects Of Colonization On The Africana Continent
Effects of colonization on the Africana continent are undisputed. Valuable natural resources were
exploited from the countries by the native people for profit in Europe leaving many with minimum
means to survive. Lands and families that had torn apart at the hands of the colonists were trying to be
rebuilt. Peoples culture and traditions, viewed as barbaric and backward by the powerful Europeans,
were once again weaving itself into daily lives. Pride was once again among the people. Jomo
Kenyatta, known as the Father of the Kenyan Nation, was a man who came from the land he was
fighting to reclaim for himself and his people. Land that was simply taken from them, regardless that
generations of their family had lived there. Kenyatta ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Around 1922, Jomo Kenyatta left for the urban life of Nairobi and worked as a clerk in the Public

released only after agreeing to cooperate with the colonials, a decision that cost him the leadership of

The Definition of Cyber Attack
The Definition of Cyber Attack
The most important thing that needs to be done before taking the debate on the status of cyber attacks
under international laws of war any forward is to specifically define a cyber attack . Scholars generally
use the terms such as information warfare , cyber warfare , cyber threats , computer network attacks ,
etc as alternatives for cyber attacks without a reference to any particular definition or limitation of
scope. Perhaps this is done on a supposition that a standard definition of this term is already prevalent.
This unfortunately is not true. Speaking specifically about the literature on cyber attacks, the term is
comprehended primarily in two ways: while some talk about technology and computer networks as
instruments of the attack, others use computers and information technology networks as the objects of
the attack.
The difference in the perceptions of cyber attack is rather complicating because it makes the nature of
the operative term cyber all the more ambiguous, causing serious vagueness in any use of force or
armed attack analysis. This becomes particularly problematic when applying any leading models on
the assessment of use of force because these models employ instrumentality, target and effects as the
basis for analysis. Moreover, there must be an understanding of what exactly is a cyber attack before
discussing whether it falls under the use of force notion or not because it will not only affect the value

The Five People You Meet In Heaven Analysis
The Five People You Meet In Heaven
The Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom is a heartfelt story of a war veteran named
Eddie who works at the Ruby Pier. On his 83rd birthday, Eddie is killed trying to save a little girl from
the falling cart of a ride that malfunctioned. When Eddie goes to heaven, he meets five people that tell
him different things about his life and teach him lessons. Within the book, there are many important
symbols. The Ferris wheel and the ocean are two of these symbols that help contribute to a deeper
meaning of the story.
The ocean is a beautiful yet dangerous thing that represents not only destruction but new beginnings.
When Eddie met Ruby, the woman Ruby Pier was named after, she told Eddie the story of how the
pier came to be. Her husband, Emile, was captivated by the ocean and enjoyed seaside resorts. He
...loved the attractions, the salty food, the gypsies and fortune tellers... (115). and once they got
married, Emile promised to build a resort park just for Ruby. When the pier burned down after a
firework incident on the Fourth Of July, Emile was devastated after all the work he put into the pier
and his spirit was as broken as his body (122). The couples love for the ocean was the initial reason
the pier was built and it led to destruction. Apart from the demolition of Ruby Pier, the ocean also led
to another event of destruction. One night, Eddie saw a man named Mickey Shea sexually harassing
his mother in his own house. Mickey was a friend of Eddie s father, and when Eddie s father came
home, he chased Mickey out the house with a hammer. They ran in the middle of a storm to the pier,
and Mickey ended up rolling under a wood railing into the ocean below. Eddie s dad jumped into the
water after him and dragged him to shore, where they both collapsed on the sand (134 136). Eddie s
father ended up catching pneumonia and his condition went from fair to stable and from stable to
serious (124 25). Eddie s father ended up dying and Eddie s life was never the same afterward. A new
beginning did sprout for Eddie out of his father s sickness, though. Eddie started his work at the pier:
greasing the tracks, repairing broken parts in the shop, and testing levers. Eddie

Moses Journey
In the Bible many characters overcame problems while playing a big role in history, one of them was
Moses. He was an important person who had many feats, but also suffered in the Bible. While being
the man who led the Israelites out of slavery, he was hurt and disliked by many people for a purpose;
to spread his religion.
Moses s suffering started the day he was born. His mother had to hide him for three months so he
would not be killed by the Egyptians, but because his mother did this, he ended up becoming the man
who, with god by his side, saves his people from slavery. Moses s life was full of ups and downs, and
while it seemed like everything would be fine, his struggles had just began.
Moses grew up in royalty, but was disliked by the Pharaoh, the egyptians, and even his own people.
While he tried to be nice, his people were bitter and had once even said Who made you a price and a
judge over us? (110) His people may have hated him, but they had no idea his intentions. So the hatred
from the Israelites pushed him to leave Egypt and meet God. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

who was in trouble, not his people who did not have the courage to do so. Though while he was trying
to save them, his people did not realize he was not the cause of their death, but their hero. So when the
Egyptians charged towards them he stayed calm, and knew that he had god by his side and that no
matter what doubts anyone had, he they would be okay. So he told the Israelites, Fear not, stand firm,

hyperlipidemia, cellulitis, and insomnia. He has been in the facility for 3 years. My patient s weight is
156 lbs. and there were no major weight changes for the time he has been in the facility. My patient
needs assistance with either wheelchair or a walker, is able to ambulate with or without a device. He is
not allergic to anything, therefore, no modification to the medication is needed. The primary the
patient is in the facility is because of a foot ulcer. The foot ulcer is unable to heal at a normal pace
because he has diabetes. My patient did not take any medication prior to admission to the facility. One
of the diagnosis included hypertension also known as high blood pressure. If not treated over time
hypertension can cause heart disease and stroke. In order, to lower blood pressure a person can
consume a healthy diet with less salt, exercise daily and take their medication. Usually, if a person s
blood pressure is above 140/90 mmHg they are considered to have high blood pressure. My patient

cognitive heart failure. The only use for this is when a person has mild to moderate hypertension.

Sisterhood Is Powerful Summary
The life of a woman was limited and restricted in every aspect of her life. A woman had only one
option and one road to follow: to marry young, bare their husband s children, and devote their lives to
homemaking. Woman did not have a life outside the home and had to conform to the life society had
created for them. However, even though society painted this picture of what the average/typical
women should act and look like, they fought against it. We see a shift in the 1920 s with the creation
of flappers, in the 1940 s women joining into the industrial force, and in the 1960 s and 1970 s women
coming together creating movements and striking against the misogynist society and demanding for

During 1870, the Unites States went under a financial depression, which grew concerns over job
availability, working conditions, and income. As the nation was facing issues, California was having
some of their own that intersected with the nation social structures, economy and policies. One of the
major national issues in the United States and in California, in particular, was the discrimination
against minorities such as African Americans, Asians, and Mexicans. When large numbers of
immigrants migrated to California, there were laws which tried to regulate and enforce deportation.

This caused California to start feeling threatened and attempted to regulate immigration in order to
discourage the Chinese from continuing to come into the state. Almost every law introduced by
California to restrict Chinese immigration went against federal laws or treaties. For example, the
Burlingame Treaty of 1868 , gave China most favored nation status for trading with the United States
but also established mutual respect for Chinese immigrants in the U.S and U.S. immigrants in China.
California s plan to stop immigration and favor white labor over Chinese went against this treaty. Even
though the Supreme Court did not let California pass laws which would be discriminating, there were
Anti Chinese Union clubs who had support for some U.S. senators, congressmen, and other
politicians, which encouraged business to employ white citizens rather than Chinese. At the same
time, Anti Chinese sentiment was also being used by politicians during election time as a campaign
strategy. California s argument against Chinese immigration was that it endangered white labor by

Political Risks Of A Country And Micro Analysis
One of the first steps in managing political risks is to analyze the political environment for risks to the
business. According to Luthans, the analysis of risk can be done with two types of political risk
analysis, Macro and Micro Analysis. Macro Analysis is an analysis of political ideas and decisions that
will impact all businesses in a country and Micro Analysis is an analysis of governmental regulations
and policies that affect a specific sector of on economy or market such as the auto industry (Luthans,
2015). However, there are other risks that can be more difficult to analyze such as terrorism especially
in today s political unrest. Some major corporations have spent thousands of dollars on macro and
micro analyses just to have a world event disrupt or completely destroy operations. Tata motors dealt
with political battles as well as a terrorist event. In a USA Today article titled India s Nano goes on

The Major Causes Of The Agricultural Revolution
The Agricultural Revolution began as an idea of how to organize fields known as the enclosure system
to substantially produce food. Because of their colonies in the Americas, the British thrived on new
types of food brought from across the Pacific. Additionally, new technologies such as the ****
furthered the productivity of food production. After the influx of new machinery, food types, and the
enclosure system, Great Britain was able to provide more food for its people which both increased the
population while the amount of labor decreased and lowered the cost of food.
A major effect of the Agricultural Revolution was the cultivation of more food and how the cost of
food lowered. This is due to the way in which the cost of food went down. After this increase of
spending money, people of all classes in Europe were able to afford finer things, such as clothing
which is particularly accentuated in document 7. The statistics in Document 2 depict an increase of the
amount of food and productivity of fields in Britain particularly from 1650 1850. The Agricultural
Revolution lasted from the mid sixteenth to late eighteenth century, supporting the statistics. Clearly,
the amount of money acquired from producing food increased significantly and for a longer period of
time, proving that there was a larger amount of food. In document 3, and author named Arthur Young
described in detail the number of potatoes and other types of food being grown in Ireland. Not only

Examples Of Alice In Wonderland Identity
In the beginning half of the novel, identity is a crucial theme. Through Alice s experiences in
Wonderland, she gradually gains empowering intuition and self appreciation in order to embrace her
own identity. Throughout Alice adventures, she is asked to identify herself by several of the characters
in Wonderland, and often she is impotent to respond. Alice usually feels that she is too tall, or too
small to be herself, or that she is another person altogether, I must have been changed for Mabel!
(Carroll 20). Since Alice s Adventures in Wonderland is a book meant for children and that has been
popular among children, there seems to be some evidence that children can relate to Alice s character
since they are facing the same challenges and issues regarding developing a rational view of the
macrocosm and establishing their own identity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

present a theme that as children s physical body changes during the puberty stage, they become upset.
When they become adolescents, they become childish, as if they want to return to childhood. The
theme presents an irony where children want to grow but when their physical body changes, they are
not comfortable, and when they grow to puberty, they act like a child. For instance, she was worried

Auggie to take pride of his many wonderful traits and wants the Padawan braid to truly be a part of
him instead of how Auggie is usually depicted among others the kid with a birth defect (pg. 91).
Furthermore, Via was enraged when she found out that her brother, Auggie, cut off his Padawan braid
because she wants Auggie to not allow anyone to distract his self confidence. Whenever Via witnesses
an ungenerous remark from a passerby, she demonstrates her own confidence by exclaiming her fury
back at them.

Determining the Relationship between Postnatal Depression...
CHAPTER 4
4.1 Search Strategy
The main purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between postnatal depression and
peer support by way of reviewing primary research articles. The search strategy adopted for this study
can be broken down into several steps. The key concepts and terminologies for the study were
identified. The synonyms of the terms were then determined which were also included within the
search terms. Boolean operators were the chosen search features. Databases from which the literature
search would be conducted were chosen. Using Boolean operators, different search expression were
created and the search conducted. The results were evaluated and the inclusion exclusion criteria
applied to get the articles that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Ground On Which I Stand Analysis
August Wilson, a great playwright, was born on April 27, 1945 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The way
Wilson was mistreated and bullied in school because he was the only black student in his class caused
him to drop out of school at the age of 15 and continued his own education at the public library. While
Wilson went to the library everyday he obtain knowledge and discover new words that helped him
become a young activist poet and a symbolic playwright. Likewise, he wrote ten plays each decade of
the black experience in the 20th century. Each of his plays emphases on what he perceived about the
biggest issue to confront African Americans in that decade. The Ground on Which I Stand is a
significant play which represent the greatness of Wilson

Goodman Brown Innocence
From Ignorant Innocence to Enlightened Corruption
Nathaniel Hawthorne was born in 1804, in the city of Salem in Massachusetts. His familial ancestors
were amongst the earliest settlers of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. One of Nathaniel s grandfathers
served as a judge in the 1692 Salem witch trials and had condemned twenty five women to death.
Nathaniel Hawthorn incorporates both his fascination and his horror at his family s involvement in the
witch trials and focuses much of his literature on the social history of New England and the Puritans.
In Nathaniel Hawthorne s short story Young Goodman Brown, Hawthorne expresses his true feelings
about the negative beliefs of the puritan religion through a coming of age story, showing the loss of
innocence that every Puritan goes through to reach maturity. In the story, Hawthorn utilizes duplicity
in his naming of the characters. The main character s name is Young Goodman Brown, and is
representative of the archetypal Puritan. In the beginning of the story, Goodman Brown seems content

beliefs, upon seeing that others are content to do the same. When Goodman Brown meets up with the
old man, he is surprised to also encounter the spiritual advisor Goody Cloyse, the Minister, and
Deacon Gookin. Upon arrival at the ritual clearing, he is horrified to see all of the village s upstanding
citizens participating in a ritual of the Devil. In the aftermath of Goodman Brown s dream, he is no
longer able to function in the Puritan society as he sees sins in every villager and feels betrayed and

Argumentative Essay On The 13th Amendment
By the time the sun barely peeks over the horizon, several others and I have been working the fields
for hours. We pick cotton until our fingers bleed. If my first strip isn t done before noon, the whip will
come slashing. If I complete my strip and take a break before moving on to the next section, the whip
will come slashing. If my legs give out and can no longer support my weight, the whip will come
slashing. When I was informed about the new amendment to the constitution tears welled up in my
eyes as I took a step towards freedom, or what I thought was freedom. The thirteenth amendment
brought forth the idea that slavery would be abolished. However, the congressmen left a loophole in
the amendment, allowing slavery to continue, but under another name. The thirteenth amendment was
the first to abolish slavery, or so people say. The thirteenth amendment reads, Neither slavery nor
involuntary servitude except as punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly
convicted shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction, the
constitution. This amendment could easily fool people into believing that all was right within the
world. However, soon after this amendment was added to the constitution unjust laws started to pop
up within the states, When slavery was legally abolished. A new set of laws called Black Codes
emerged to criminalize legal activity for African Americans. Through the enforcement of these laws,
acts such as

Differences Between Flora and Mother Essay example
There is an infinite number of personalities and the best art works portray them vividly and truthfully.
Some people are practical, while others are more abstract. In the comedic novels about family life,
Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons (1932) and Chicken Every Sunday: My Life with Mother s
Boarders by Rosemary Taylor (1943), the practical characters are in the forefront. While representing
different life phases due to their age difference, Gibbons s main character Flora Poste is quite similar
in her life views and actions to Taylor s Mother. The central theme is the conflict between notions of
practicality and romance, reflected by the actions of the heroines, which happen to be heavily affected
by their unconventional upbringings. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both heroines personalities are heavily affected by their rather unconventional childhoods. Since
Mother was born right after the Civil War and had gone through the hard and poverty stricken times in
the South, [t]here was something Spartan in her nature and her seizing any possibility for making
money (57). Flora s childhood was marked by her hardly knowing her parents and attending various
schools, where she could hardly fit in. Overall, the theme of unconventional childhoods is one of the
major themes of both novels. Most of the characters of Cold Comfort Farm seem to have
psychological issues, which they developed from their childhoods. Ada Doom s seeing something
nasty in the woodshed made a dominating and miserable being out of her (171). She brought up her
daughter, Judit Starkadder, as an emotionally unstable. It resulted in Judith s obsession with her son,
Seth Starkadder. The inferred Seth s molestation by his mother had resulted in him developing
psychological issues of his own, including hate towards women and sexual promiscuity. On the
contrary, Mother s and Flora s stern upbringing molded them into practical and realistic people, as
well as allowed them to manipulate their surrounding characters. The novels are insightful to one of
the human nature s desires of changing others. Both heroines change the lives of the whole cast of
different characters, instead of allowing the environments to change them. They introduce other
female characters to

Ventilator Associated Pneumonia Essay
This paper will discuss the prevention of ventilator associated pneumonia utilizing the ventilator
associated pneumonia care bundle and the impact it has on clinical practice. Topics that will also be
discussed include potential barriers that may arise during the implementation of the bundle strategies,
how they can be overcome and finally educational strategies for families.
According to Safer healthcare now (2012), Ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP) is defined as a
pneumonia occurring in patients requiring a device intermittently or continuously to assist respiration
through a tracheostomy or endotracheal tube p11.The development of VAP has many potential causes
some of which included aspiration, intubation procedure, biofilm formation, ... Show more content on

Research has shown that leading factor in the development of VAP is aspiration of oropharyngeal,
nasopharyngeal secretions and stomach content that contains pathogenic bacteria (Klompas, 2010). A
review completed Sedwick, Smith, Reeder Nardi studying the effects of HOB elevation, demonstrated
a direct correlation between back rest elevation of 30 and the incidence of aspiration. Furthermore,
clinical trials established that there was a substantial decrease in the development of aspiration and
subsequent pneumonia when patients were placed in a semi recumbent position (2012). Elevation of
the head of the bed is not without its potential complications. The greatest concerning complication is
related to impaired skin integrity, specifically the development of decubitus ulcers. Nursing staff must
be vigilant frequent skin assessment and patient repositioning to ensure that skin integrity is not
compromised. Educating families of the importance of HOB elevation is also critical, as patients may
potentially be very uncomfortable and desire to have the HOB lowered. Utilization of head of the bed
alarms, signs and intervention documentation will provide as a continual reminder to ensure nurses are
compliant in adhering to this aspect of the care

The Federalists And Democratic Republicans
From 1789 to 1816, the Federalists and Democratic Republicans approached many problems
differently, sometimes however, they had the same solutions to problems which were posed by
England and the Native Americans. The Federalists and Democratic Republicans both had different
and sometimes similar viewpoints on how to solve the problems they faced during this particular time
period. Federalists supported a strong, huge government that had a loose constriction of the
constitution. They also supported the National Bank, exercise tax. Also, they thought tariffs should be
high, and they believed in an industrial world filled with huge businesses and mass production of
goods. However, the Democratic Republicans wanted a more agrarian culture. They did not want a
huge government, National bank, excise taxes, and they wanted the tariffs to be low. Some difficulties
that the two parties faced were that the British created were impressments of sailors, assisting the
Native Americans in war against the United States, and the Orders in Council of 1805. The Native
Americans also generated problems for America because they resisted land expansion. Because of
their standards and beliefs, this shows how the two parties faced these particular problems that were
caused by Britain and the Native Americans. Therefore, the Federalists and Democratic Republicans
solved problems differently, but sometimes they had the same idea to work together in order to
effectively fix both of the parties

Genocide In The Armenian Genocide
At the beginning of the fourth century Armenia transitioned from being an independent country, to a
part of the Ottoman Empire. The Armenians were Christian, unlike the Turks, who were Muslim. This
led to unequal treatment of Armenians. For example, they had to pay higher taxes, yet had fewer
political and legal rights. However, Armenians were very successful in the Ottoman Empire, which is
another reason they were treated badly. They also were thought of as traitors because they might join
the Russians in the war since they are also Christians. These were some of the reasons why the
massacres began. Other reasons include the start of WW1 which allowed them to hide the massacres
from the outside word, and made Turk suspicious of Armenians loyalty. Also the new government
called the Young Turks saw the Armenians as a threat to the new state. The massacres that took place
in the Ottoman Empire between 1914 1918 exhibited the ninth and tenth Stages of Genocide;
Extermination and Denial. They also violated the human rights, Right to Equality and Freedom From
Torture and Degrading Treatment.
The massacres that took place in the Ottoman Empire between 1914 1918 exhibited the 9th stage
Extermination, and 10th stage Denial, of the Stages of Genocide. For example, according to CBS 60
Minutes a US Ambassador in Turkey reported, It appears that a campaign of race extermination is in
progress ( CBS 60 Minutes ). In other words, during the massacres a US Ambassador (a

  • 2. The Impact Of Divorce On Family Introduction The words from the Bible, therefore, what God has joined together, let no man separate have been habitually used during weddings throughout history. Stepping into the 21st century, those words have not been faithfully lived up to, evident through the numerous counts of divorces in society. Divorce can be defined as the legal dissolution of a marriage by a court order and in this generation, is seen as the norm. Apart from race, other major predictors of divorce include age at marriage, education, premarital births and religion. (Bartolic, Martin, White, 2013). Divorce often tends to be thought of in a monolithic way, as if everyone who gets a divorce goes through the same process. The impact of divorce on the well being of children have been notoriously viewed with a negative lens for many years due to possible risk factors that may affect children and their upbringing as they navigate through life as their parents separate. However, families have the ability to strengthen and bounce back even stronger with more knowledge through these experiences. This paper thoroughly discusses the impacts of divorce and its effects on family structure and the ways in which families can collectively work together to overcome crises and be resilient. This includes the many protective factors that help families overcome their challenges and adversities such as positive social interactions, personal protective factors, and belief systems in which all of these aspects encompass ... • 3. The Theory Of Knowledge Is Power Adonis Perez Professor Anderson Sociology 1 April 30, 2015 Sociology Paper Knowledge will forever govern ignorance and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives James Madison In layman s terms, the quote above means to say that knowledge is power. That whoever knows the most will be in control. This concept of power is seen in all aspects of society worldwide. In every nation, the man that knows how to work the law to his benefit will basically get away with anything, which is seen in the courts on a daily basis. Someone with a higher degree of knowledge, and strong enough tenure, manages the way individuals get educated. It is part of our reality, and in order for things to change; there must be a change in the already instilled system. The solutions to the ongoing problem are through Ethnomethodology, which relates to Mehans Five Features of Reality: reflexive activity, a coherent body of knowledge, interactional activity, fragility of reality, and the permeability of reality, or through Conflict Theory. However, even with these two methods of possible change, the possibility of change actually occurring is slim to none. Society has complete and utter control on the individual. This can be seen in any group of individuals ranging from the youngest to the oldest. When society has been shaped through the mass mainstream media it forces the individual to follow in the same steps as everyone else. If society ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Similarities Between King Jr And Malcolm X The King Stands Tall The black civil rights movement struggle of the 1960s was a long and sometimes bloody battle for the rights of African Americans to be recognized as equal to their white counterparts. The civil rights movement had many organizations that were led by prominent figures whose methods in fighting for their rights differed. Amongst the most famous and successful contributors are Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. This paper will examine these two individuals methods and determine which of their approaches was the most effective towards gaining equality. Malcolm X was a civil rights leader who advocated for the use of violence when it came to fighting for equal rights of his people. His most famous quote was whatever means necessary which meant that a person could do whatever he wanted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Martin grew up in a middle class family which upheld Christian values. The fairly peaceful environment and Christian values which advocate for turning the other cheek meant that King had the mind of a nonviolent person, and this was demonstrated throughout his life. For example, when his house was bombed he did not react violently but instead called for empathy and understanding for the perpetrators of these actions towards him and other people from the African American community.[1] Occasionally, one develops a conviction so precious and meaningful that he will stand on it till the end[2]. So which of the above leaders and methods had the greatest impact in the push for equal rights for African Americans? Although Malcolm X had a great influence on the outcome of the civil rights movement, he later renounced his violent ways after a visit to the Middle East and started advocating for nonviolent activism. Even though he had argued against King s nonviolent methods, he was finally ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Personal Narrative On San Francisco During the summer of 7th grade my mom and I went on a trip to san Francisco that showed me how real untreated mental health issues, homelessness, and drugs are. I always knew that bad communities existed and they re not safe but I never knew what they really looked like. That was until my mom and I accidentally walked through the tenderloin. The Tenderloin is one of the most infamous parts of San Francisco. The whole city of San Francisco is a crazy and beautiful place that I learned how many people suffer from drugs, crime, poverty and homelessness. It was about 70 degrees outside and fog engulfed the city. As my mom and I were walking back from the Fishermen s Wharf. I couldn t help but want to hear these people s stories and want to know what brought them here but in a non judgemental way. The more I walked around San Francisco, the more I saw the homeless. Some of them it was clear that they were so mentally ill they couldn t get a job. There were others who didn t have the money or resources to get into rehab. • 7. Arranged Marriages In Sixteenth Century England In sixteenth century England, marriages were usually arranged. This seemed like a great idea at the time because both families would benefit from the marriages, often with increasing wealth or property. Even though most people already knew their spouse before they were married, it must have been tough for them not to have any choice in who would become their husband or wife. Divorces were a foreign concept to these ancient people, though occasionally marriages would be annulled, or declared they had never been valid. We are no less careful in our marriages than people in the sixteenth centre, yet annulling a marriage was way less common back then. That says a lot about us. In spite of the fact that a wide range of people had no say in their spouse, kings were an exception. Since kings could marry whoever they wanted whenever they wanted, a lot of them probably had a large amount of wives. Arranged marriages were about as normal in the sixteenth century as iPhones are in the twenty first. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Royal queens are an exception to the behind the scenes, meek and submissive woman that was not uncommon during this time period. Edward s father, King Henry VIII, was known for his many wives. This is an example of how a king can marry whoever he desires. In this time, wives were considered to be a man s property, which is why some of his wives had such horrible fates. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This rejection of traditionally held values in regard to women, led to the very next Ism, Feminism. Feminism was a Utopians dream because it advocated greatly expanded roles for women. By the time of the precedent setting New York State court case Mercein v. People in 1842, women had gained many other rights. In Mercein vs. People a woman was awarded custody of children for the first time in history. Up till this point women had gained property rights within marriage in several Ohio and Mississippi Valley states, and the trend was spreading, fast, and divorce became slightly more prevalent, with the legal grounds increased. With the growth of the Industrial Revolution, women were given work opportunities, and with a rising demand for teachers more and more women were becoming educated in institutions. Nursing jobs also became popular. In1849, Elizabeth Blackwell received her M.D. degree from the Medical Institution of Geneva, N.Y., becoming the first woman in the U.S. with a medical degree. All these causes lead women, inevitably, towards feminism, a socio religious and socio political philosophy born at the end of the Age of Jackson. • 10. Dulce Et Decorum Est Figurative Language Wilfred Owen s Dulce et Decorum Est (1917) is one of the most famous poems to appear from the ranks of the soldier poets who fought during the WWI. He reacts to the war, showing that reality is contaminated and dishonored, changing conventional poetic techniques into something that appears to be rather ordinary on the outside. In the poem, Owen shows the critical versions of reality by using figurative language, imagery, and irony. First of all, the author uses simile, which is one form of figurative languages, to support the idea of exhaust and pain during the war which contradicts the belief that it is sweet and honorable to die for your country. Bent double, like old beggars under sacks, knock kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge. (Owen, 1917, stanza 1, line 1 2) From this quote, it is able to infer that participating war is wearing since the soldiers walk countless miles, which Owen himself compares the them as beggars and hags. The rise of China is a relative threat to the neighbor regions or other great powers. Further, some scholars also comment that China either will replace or has already superseded the United State as the world s only superpower. China s growth is too rapid and massive that other nations have limited or no opportunity to compete with it. By using international relations theories to analyze US China relations, there are three main stream theories commonly using to explain this case: Realism, Liberalism, and Constructivism. In addition, in the article The Future of US China Relations composed by Aaron L. Friedberg, professor of politics and international affairs, he comments that people predict US China relations with two different views optimistic or pessimistic. However, which international relation theory applies this political phenomenon the best is still debatable. This paper will argue that the conflicts between the two nations are normal while China is growing, because the conflicts are derived from different perspectives. Pessimistic realism and optimistic liberalism are two main points that will be addressing when approach to this critical issue. My home tastes like sunlight on autumn leaves. Every place has a taste, but I will never forget the taste of the majesty of the San Juan Mountains. The first time I laid eyes upon the San Juan Mountains, I couldn t believe that I was only a few miles away from the cold desert that is Colorado. The further into the rugged mountain range the highway led me, the more awe and disbelief fell upon me. I felt small, and as if I was the first person to ever discover those hidden valleys that support entire ecosystems of plants and animals. The scattered puffs of cloud above me painted shadows along the razor edged peaks, giving an appearance of a mural, rather than massive chunks of rock carved away by the centuries. I could hear nothing except for the pounding of far off waterfalls and the whispering of the pines, who shared secrets that nobody but they would ever know. I felt like an intruder, and yet welcomed. I was lost, but at home. Around a bend, and out of the blue, there came a town. Even so far from the nearest city, the town was butsling. Main Street was lined with colorful buildings restored from the Victorian era. A two floor hotel, elegant even in it s old age, announced its presence at the corner of an intersection. The stout brick walls stood fortified, defying the valley winds. The occasional house could be seen through the tightly packed boutiques, shops, and art galleries. One was baby blue and white, another, the color of dried saffron. Further on down Main Street, natural hot springs revealed themselves. People of every age packed into the heated pools. A vicious game of volleyball had commenced, and more people were flocking to the net even in the second it took to drive past. Eventually, the quaint Main Street ended, and the highway led the car through several switchbacks that twisted up the side of the valley. At the top, a weather worn sign named the town Ouray , and the sight below was one to behold. The moral attributes of both individuals that are involved are significant in their friendship. According to Aristotle in Nicomachean Ethics, it is because of these moral attributes that we were friends (149). Morality is a set of ideals that should be strived for because they are helpful to humanity. Moral changes occur when people begin to or stop doing these ideals. Is it ethical to depart from a genuine friend due to a change in morality, for better or worse, by either party? In most other situations, it is immoral to depart a friendship because philia is a patient, but still conditional, form of love. In necessary situations, Aristotle argues that ending a relationship is reasonable. If the members of a genuine friendship change morally, it should lead to departure. This conclusion assumes that people can change themselves ethically and that people who are a part of a genuine friendship can end their relationship. A reasonable problem with this thesis is the possibility that any declared friendship, which is not necessarily genuine, that ends with departure must have never been a genuine friendship to begin with. If it is true that legitimate friendships cannot be broken, then it follows that even a change in morality that alters the friendship itself cannot lead to departure unless it was never a friendship after all. Apostles Of Disunion Analysis Ivan Ramirez Professor Sandy History 2300 20 November 2016 Charles Dew s Apostles Of Disunion The central thesis of this book is that the secession commissioners that were sent Deep South to other slave states in the winter of 1860 1861 played a major role in defending as well as urging people to subscribe to their ideology and follow them out of the Union. This thesis helps in giving insights in the South s real intention, which can be argued out that it was to defend its slave trade culture that the North was totally against hence the use of secession as a means of convincing people. This quote from Henry Miller demonstrates that even the best of people can be tempted and twisted by their own nature. Like the symbolic pig’s head stuck in the calm forests clearing, all beauty and innocence can be mutated when order is overthrown by impulse actions. In William Golding’s novel, Lord of the Flies, a central theme exists demonstrating the deterioration of civilization, and the overpowering of savagery, leading to the abandonment of moral thoughts and actions within a person. The beauty of the island is burned away slowly as the fiery demon of savagery attempts to overwhelm the boys. The beauty of the island symbolizes the charm of law and ... Piggy acts as a conscience when rumors of ghost and monsters are spread, and he ends the gossip by explaining ghosts are not logical or scientific, meaning they do not exist. Piggy uses his smarts to make sundials for the boys to keep track of the time, and with Ralph’s combination of leadership, the two boys begin to form what looks like the beginnings of a civilized camp. Civilization exists in the children, as they follow Ralph’s initial commands and help build the first shelter. They don not fully understand why they act civil, but their morals passed on by parents or self growth guide them during the first portion of the book. Golding uses the combination of Ralph and Piggy to show the roots of civilization, and the peace that morals bring, and the other boys to show the balance factor of feeling obligated to act civil. They use law as a protective companion, making rules for only speaking when holding the conch, to prevent yelling and fights. Jack even shows a civil side to his mind, when first establishing their camp, crying out, We’ll have rules! Lot’s of rules! (33) The fact that Golding would show that Jack, the symbol of savagery, has some civil thoughts, indicates that he is conveying the idea that civilization exists in even the most immoral people. • 24. The Definition of Cyber Attack The Definition of Cyber Attack The most important thing that needs to be done before taking the debate on the status of cyber attacks under international laws of war any forward is to specifically define a cyber attack . Scholars generally use the terms such as information warfare , cyber warfare , cyber threats , computer network attacks , etc as alternatives for cyber attacks without a reference to any particular definition or limitation of scope. Perhaps this is done on a supposition that a standard definition of this term is already prevalent. This unfortunately is not true. Speaking specifically about the literature on cyber attacks, the term is comprehended primarily in two ways: while some talk about technology and computer networks as instruments of the attack, others use computers and information technology networks as the objects of the attack. The difference in the perceptions of cyber attack is rather complicating because it makes the nature of the operative term cyber all the more ambiguous, causing serious vagueness in any use of force or armed attack analysis. This becomes particularly problematic when applying any leading models on the assessment of use of force because these models employ instrumentality, target and effects as the basis for analysis. Moreover, there must be an understanding of what exactly is a cyber attack before discussing whether it falls under the use of force notion or not because it will not only affect the value and ... • 25. The Five People You Meet In Heaven Analysis The Five People You Meet In Heaven The Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom is a heartfelt story of a war veteran named Eddie who works at the Ruby Pier. On his 83rd birthday, Eddie is killed trying to save a little girl from the falling cart of a ride that malfunctioned. When Eddie goes to heaven, he meets five people that tell him different things about his life and teach him lessons. Within the book, there are many important symbols. The Ferris wheel and the ocean are two of these symbols that help contribute to a deeper meaning of the story. The ocean is a beautiful yet dangerous thing that represents not only destruction but new beginnings. When Eddie met Ruby, the woman Ruby Pier was named after, she told Eddie the story of how the pier came to be. Her husband, Emile, was captivated by the ocean and enjoyed seaside resorts. He ...loved the attractions, the salty food, the gypsies and fortune tellers... (115). and once they got married, Emile promised to build a resort park just for Ruby. When the pier burned down after a firework incident on the Fourth Of July, Emile was devastated after all the work he put into the pier and his spirit was as broken as his body (122). The couples love for the ocean was the initial reason the pier was built and it led to destruction. Apart from the demolition of Ruby Pier, the ocean also led to another event of destruction. One night, Eddie saw a man named Mickey Shea sexually harassing his mother in his own house. Mickey was a friend of Eddie s father, and when Eddie s father came home, he chased Mickey out the house with a hammer. They ran in the middle of a storm to the pier, and Mickey ended up rolling under a wood railing into the ocean below. Eddie s dad jumped into the water after him and dragged him to shore, where they both collapsed on the sand (134 136). Eddie s father ended up catching pneumonia and his condition went from fair to stable and from stable to serious (124 25). Eddie s father ended up dying and Eddie s life was never the same afterward. A new beginning did sprout for Eddie out of his father s sickness, though. Eddie started his work at the pier: greasing the tracks, repairing broken parts in the shop, and testing levers. Eddie ... In the hall, she drank from a bottle and it made her grow small. Then, she ate a cake which made her grow bigger so she cried until her tears formed a sizable pool. The events in these chapters present a theme that as children s physical body changes during the puberty stage, they become upset. When they become adolescents, they become childish, as if they want to return to childhood. The theme presents an irony where children want to grow but when their physical body changes, they are not comfortable, and when they grow to puberty, they act like a child. For instance, she was worried about her feet and how she could put her stockings and shoes, Oh, my poor little feet, I wonder who will put on your shoes and stockings for you now, dears? I m sure I shan t be able! (Carroll 16). Just like other children, she worried herself about her physical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

First of all, when Via first discovers that her brother, Auggie, removes his Padawan braid as a result of a small remark of a classmate at his new school, she becomes angry at Auggie since she knew it was one of many of Auggie s characteristics that represented who he was. Ever since Auggie was a young child, he had an obsession over Star Wars along with his somewhat friend, Christopher, and he continued to have an interest in Star Wars when Via discovered that Auggie had removed the Padawan braid, she was upset because that was a true part of Auggie s identity. Since Via is very protective and supportive of her brother, Auggie, and as she is struggling with her own identity herself, she wants Auggie to take pride of his many wonderful traits and wants the Padawan braid to truly be a part of him instead of how Auggie is usually depicted among others the kid with a birth defect (pg. 91). Furthermore, Via was enraged when she found out that her brother, Auggie, cut off his Padawan braid because she wants Auggie to not allow anyone to distract his self confidence. His familial ancestors were amongst the earliest settlers of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. One of Nathaniel s grandfathers served as a judge in the 1692 Salem witch trials and had condemned twenty five women to death. Nathaniel Hawthorn incorporates both his fascination and his horror at his family s involvement in the witch trials and focuses much of his literature on the social history of New England and the Puritans. In Nathaniel Hawthorne s short story Young Goodman Brown, Hawthorne expresses his true feelings about the negative beliefs of the puritan religion through a coming of age story, showing the loss of innocence that every Puritan goes through to reach maturity. In the story, Hawthorn utilizes duplicity in his naming of the characters. The main character s name is Young Goodman Brown, and is representative of the archetypal Puritan. • 44. Argumentative Essay On The 13th Amendment By the time the sun barely peeks over the horizon, several others and I have been working the fields for hours. We pick cotton until our fingers bleed. If my first strip isn t done before noon, the whip will come slashing. If I complete my strip and take a break before moving on to the next section, the whip will come slashing. If my legs give out and can no longer support my weight, the whip will come slashing. When I was informed about the new amendment to the constitution tears welled up in my eyes as I took a step towards freedom, or what I thought was freedom. The thirteenth amendment brought forth the idea that slavery would be abolished. However, the congressmen left a loophole in the amendment, allowing slavery to continue, but under another name. The thirteenth amendment was the first to abolish slavery, or so people say. The thirteenth amendment reads, Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude except as punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction, the constitution. This amendment could easily fool people into believing that all was right within the world. However, soon after this amendment was added to the constitution unjust laws started to pop up within the states, When slavery was legally abolished. A new set of laws called Black Codes emerged to criminalize legal activity for African Americans. Through the enforcement of these laws, acts such as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Differences Between Flora and Mother Essay example There is an infinite number of personalities and the best art works portray them vividly and truthfully. Some people are practical, while others are more abstract. In the comedic novels about family life, Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons (1932) and Chicken Every Sunday: My Life with Mother s Boarders by Rosemary Taylor (1943), the practical characters are in the forefront. While representing different life phases due to their age difference, Gibbons s main character Flora Poste is quite similar in her life views and actions to Taylor s Mother. The central theme is the conflict between notions of practicality and romance, reflected by the actions of the heroines, which happen to be heavily affected by their unconventional upbringings. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both heroines personalities are heavily affected by their rather unconventional childhoods. Since Mother was born right after the Civil War and had gone through the hard and poverty stricken times in the South, [t]here was something Spartan in her nature and her seizing any possibility for making money (57). Flora s childhood was marked by her hardly knowing her parents and attending various schools, where she could hardly fit in. Overall, the theme of unconventional childhoods is one of the major themes of both novels. Most of the characters of Cold Comfort Farm seem to have psychological issues, which they developed from their childhoods. Ada Doom s seeing something nasty in the woodshed made a dominating and miserable being out of her (171). She brought up her daughter, Judit Starkadder, as an emotionally unstable. It resulted in Judith s obsession with her son, Seth Starkadder. The inferred Seth s molestation by his mother had resulted in him developing psychological issues of his own, including hate towards women and sexual promiscuity. On the contrary, Mother s and Flora s stern upbringing molded them into practical and realistic people, as well as allowed them to manipulate their surrounding characters. The novels are insightful to one of the human nature s desires of changing others. Both heroines change the lives of the whole cast of different characters, instead of allowing the environments to change them. They introduce other female characters to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Research has shown that leading factor in the development of VAP is aspiration of oropharyngeal, nasopharyngeal secretions and stomach content that contains pathogenic bacteria (Klompas, 2010). A review completed Sedwick, Smith, Reeder Nardi studying the effects of HOB elevation, demonstrated a direct correlation between back rest elevation of 30 and the incidence of aspiration. Furthermore, clinical trials established that there was a substantial decrease in the development of aspiration and subsequent pneumonia when patients were placed in a semi recumbent position (2012). Elevation of the head of the bed is not without its potential complications. The greatest concerning complication is related to impaired skin integrity, specifically the development of decubitus ulcers. Nursing staff must be vigilant frequent skin assessment and patient repositioning to ensure that skin integrity is not compromised. Educating families of the importance of HOB elevation is also critical, as patients may potentially be very uncomfortable and desire to have the HOB lowered. Utilization of head of the bed alarms, signs and intervention documentation will provide as a continual reminder to ensure nurses are compliant in adhering to this aspect of the care ... • 47. The Federalists And Democratic Republicans From 1789 to 1816, the Federalists and Democratic Republicans approached many problems differently, sometimes however, they had the same solutions to problems which were posed by England and the Native Americans. The Federalists and Democratic Republicans both had different and sometimes similar viewpoints on how to solve the problems they faced during this particular time period. Federalists supported a strong, huge government that had a loose constriction of the constitution. They also supported the National Bank, exercise tax. Also, they thought tariffs should be high, and they believed in an industrial world filled with huge businesses and mass production of goods. However, the Democratic Republicans wanted a more agrarian culture. They did not want a huge government, National bank, excise taxes, and they wanted the tariffs to be low. Some difficulties that the two parties faced were that the British created were impressments of sailors, assisting the Native Americans in war against the United States, and the Orders in Council of 1805. The Native Americans also generated problems for America because they resisted land expansion. Because of their standards and beliefs, this shows how the two parties faced these particular problems that were caused by Britain and the Native Americans. Therefore, the Federalists and Democratic Republicans solved problems differently, but sometimes they had the same idea to work together in order to effectively fix both of the parties ... • 48. Genocide In The Armenian Genocide At the beginning of the fourth century Armenia transitioned from being an independent country, to a part of the Ottoman Empire. The Armenians were Christian, unlike the Turks, who were Muslim. This led to unequal treatment of Armenians. For example, they had to pay higher taxes, yet had fewer political and legal rights. However, Armenians were very successful in the Ottoman Empire, which is another reason they were treated badly. They also were thought of as traitors because they might join the Russians in the war since they are also Christians. These were some of the reasons why the massacres began. Other reasons include the start of WW1 which allowed them to hide the massacres from the outside word, and made Turk suspicious of Armenians loyalty. Also the new government called the Young Turks saw the Armenians as a threat to the new state. The massacres that took place in the Ottoman Empire between 1914 1918 exhibited the ninth and tenth Stages of Genocide; Extermination and Denial.
