The Electoral College Is If You Don t Understand It
It is difficult to completely understand and in a way appreciate what the Electoral College is if you
don t understand it. Therefore, this paper will go in depth as to how the voting process works in the
United States, with a main focus on the Electoral College. I will start by talking about the background,
what challenges and problems it was trying to solve, how it came to be and who came up with such
idea. Secondly, I would talk about the advantages the Electoral College possesses, such as it keeps
small states as viable participants, it maintains division of power and how it s beneficial to the
candidates and their campaign. But as with everything, there are also some disadvantages that come
with such, example, ignoring the will of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The function of the college electors is for the most knowledgeable and informed individuals from each
State to chose the president based solely on merit without regarding the state of orginal or political
party. The way electors are chosen varies from state to state. Usually political parties nominate
electors at their states conventions. Sometimes that process occurs by a vote of the parties central
committee. These electors are usually state elected officials, party leaders or people with a strong
affiliation with the presidential candidates. Prior to Election Day each major political party has
selected their slate of electors that will vote in December if their party wins that state. When it comes
to electing the president there are a total of 538 men and women electors who meet on one day in
December of a presidential election year. The next president will be the man or woman who receives
at least 270 electoral votes (half of 538 plus one). Prior to the 12th amendment the President and the
Vice President were both chosen on the same ballet. The one with the greater votes became the
President and the one with the second highest votes become the Vice President.
Some would prefer that we chose our president based of a popularity contest, a more democratic thing
to do. but if that was the case, then the

Definition Of Maintaining Rule Of Law
V: Morality Ought
Criterion:
Maintaining Rule of Law
The rule of law is vital to keep power with the people and prevent a government from being all
powerful and oppressive.
Specific to the actor (juror)
Jurors become part of the legal system, part of the governance, so they are particularly obligated to
society as a whole.
Contention 1
Jury nullification undermines legal stability by wrongfully distributing lawmaking powers and
destroying due process and objective application. Legal expert, Erick Haynie writes:
Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology Volume 88 Issue 1 Fall Article 8 Fall 1997 Populism, Free
Speech, and the Rule of Law: The Fully Informed Jury Movement and its Implications Erick J. Haynie

6 This reality was explained long ago in the Supreme Court s landmark decision of Sparf Hansen v.
United States,8 7 which addressed the issue of jury nullification in the federal court system. Holding
that it is the right and duty of the trial judge to instruct the jury to follow the law, the Court wrote that:
Public and private safety alike would be in peril if the principle be established that juries in criminal
cases may, of right, [be told to] disregard the law as expounded to them by the court, and become a
law unto themselves. Under such a system, the principal function of the judge would be to preside and
keep order while jurymen, untrained in the law, would determine questions affecting life, liberty, or
property according to such legal principles as, in their judgement, were applicable to the particular
case being tried.... We must hold firmly to the doctrine that in the courts of the United States it is the
duty ofjuries in criminal cases to take the law from the court, and apply that law to the facts as they
find them to be from the evidence. The Ninth Circuit has criticized nullification arguments by counsel
as violative of the rule of law in even stronger terms: If we... allow lawyers to appeal for jury
nullification

Spiritual Elements In The Film Dr. Stephen Strange
From Doctor to Protector
Imagine if you were told to forget everything you think you know. Imagine yourself knowing that you
are one of the smartest people in the world and you are the best at what you do and some stranger
comes along and makes you feel like you are the dumbest person existing. This is the fate that befell
neurosurgeon Dr. Stephen Strange in the movie Dr. Strange, directed by Scott Derrickson. In a twist of
the tale that combines both spiritual elements and the modern world, director Scott Derrickson has
managed to pull off one of the most intricate Science Fictions of all time. I chose to review this movie
as it falls in the category of movies that I watch the most and enjoy science fiction. The most

Strange. This is a 21st century movie that captivates the viewer s attention and fulfills one s
expectations of a good movie. A movie that will not look or feel like a waste of time, money and other
resources. The most interesting part is that there is hope for future production of the same movie as the
story line continues. The stunts performed are just a show of pure awesomeness of Marvel Studios.
The graphics display the complexity of computer manipulation of animated characters and the script
has made use of words that resonate with the feeling of class. This is a movie one would not want to

Gender Is A Man Of The Physically Heritable Trait, Through...
How I Learned to Drive has demonstrated that gender is a learned, in addition to the physically
heritable trait, through society. Vogel stated that this play provides an opportunity to examine the issue
at a microcosmic level at how we are taught at an extremely early age to look at female bodies
(Mansbridge 124). The play is portraying a woman from her eleven years old to her forties. It detailed
the process of how she gains her way to view her own body from her family, and especially Uncle
Peck, can be seen clearly. This implied that our sexualities are gained through the society instead of
ourselves, despite being the owner of our bodies.
In order to successfully deliver Vogel s message, she revealed the secret at the end of the play in which
Uncle Peck is a pedophile. Besides, various scenes were included before the revelation of the secret,
such as interactions among Li l Bit s family and Uncle Peck provided a clear picture of the process of
how Li l Bit became the victim of her uncle. It allowed the avoidance of the issue being preconceived
by audiences as well as developing subjective opinions towards Uncle Peck through piecemeal
information provided at each time points. In this way, the audiences are able to conceive Vogel s
message more effectively. There are a few ways to view gender as a social construction, including:
female sexuality and agency, femininity, masculinity and objectification of female.
Li l Bit as the protagonist of the play has been taught how

Vertigo and His Girl Friday
The films Vertigo and His Girl Friday, directed by Alfred Hitchcock and Howard Hawks respectively,
are good representations of classical cinema. A stigma associated with classical cinema is the film s
portrayal of women. Feminist film theorists believe that the male protagonist play a more prominent
role while women are only something to be looked at and acted upon. Both films possess a male and a
female protagonist. His Girl Friday casts Cary Grant as a cunning newspaper editor named Walter
Burns, as well as Rosalind Russell as former reporter and former wife of Walter, Hildy Johnson.
Vertigo stars James Stewart as a former detective named Scottie Ferguson, and Kim Novak as
Madeleine Ester, a woman Scottie is hired to investigate. Both films challenge the feminist s
hypothesis with powerful and intelligent women who have some control over men in the film. Yet in
both films the male protagonist ultimately has control over the female even though the stigma is tested
throughout the entirety of both films. In the film His Girl Friday, Hildy Johnson is an ex reporter
whose goal is to settle down and have a normal life with her fiancé Bruce Baldwin. She returns to tell
Walter that she is finished reporting forever but Walter s goal is to make her a reporter again and
eventually remarry her. Hildy is a beautiful woman and steals every scene she is in, other than perhaps
the scenes involving Walter. In an early scene of the film Hildy enters in on the reporters playing

New Immigration Problems
Problems of the New Immigrants
Introduction
Immigration is one of the oldest activities of the human race maybe since the first human left Africa
long time ago. It is a human nature to move from one place to another seeking food, shelter, better
living conditions, opportunities and protection from prosecution. Before the rise of the concept of
modern states in the 19th century, most of the movement of people between territories was not heavy
regulated or controlled. During the ancient civilizations time there were always some nomads who
decide to join the cities and settle which can be argued as one forms of immigration. The most other
visible forms of immigration are more related to conflicts, natural disasters, family reunification, and

From the Chinese Exclusion Act to the stripping of the Indians citizenship after the 1923 Supreme
Court case United States v. Bhagat Singh Thind. Arizona recently passed a law that made it a state
misdemeanor crime for any immigrant to be in Arizona without carrying the required immigration
documents that proof they are legally allowed to be in the United States. This law required that state
law enforcement officers attempt to determine an individual s immigration status during a lawful stop,
detention or arrest , when there is reasonable suspicion that the individual is an illegal immigrant.
Critics of the legislation say it encourages racial profiling and since it passed many legal immigrants
found themselves constantly arrested and harassed by law enforcement officers for no other reason
than their skin color or the language they speak or their accent. The harsh application of this law by
Maricopa County, in Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio, made him a popular figure locally and nationally for

Social Impact Of The Agricultural Revolution And The...
Introduction
The Industrial Revolution began in the late 18th and 19th centuries and was a period of significant
economic development marked by the introduction of power driven machinery. Much like the
Agricultural Revolution, the Industrial Revolution began to take shape in Britain and then spread to
other countries. During the Industrial Revolution, many power driven machines were invented, which
replaced hand tools.
Social impacts
The Industrial Revolution increased the material wealth of the Western world. It also ended the
dominance of agriculture and initiated significant social change. During the 17 and 18 hundreds the
Agricultural revolution took place, which was a period of significant agricultural development. New

The working class made up 80% of society. Since population was increasing in Great Britain at the
same time that landowners were enclosing common village lands. This resulted in a very high
unemployment rate for workers in the first phases of the Industrial Revolution. Desperate for work,
the working class had no bargaining power to demand higher wages, fairer work hours, or better
working conditions. Worse still, since only wealthy people in Great Britain were eligible to vote,
workers could not use the democratic political system to fight for rights and reforms.
Economic Effects
In pre industrial times skilled craftsmen would work from traditional locations in the home and small
workshops, this was known as the cottage industry. When the Industrial Revolution begun, machines,
such as the steam engines were invented, to power large scale factories, the cottage industry system
could not keep up with the demand of goods. Therefore more people were forced to seek employment
in cities. With the majority of the population on unstable jobs or on the verge of unemployment, the
working class became completely dependent on the employer. Virtually slaves to the employer or
factory owner.

Society s Media has Altered the Court Experience
Societies media as we know it has altered the reality of The United States law and its courts, causing
the real world to become more of a blur. Media has given people somewhat of a basic aspect of the
law and how it works, but little do people know what television shows such as Bones, CSI, Law and
Order, Judge Judy, and etc., has inaccurate ruling of the laws and procedures. Giving a shrouded haze
over our eyes in believing that the law system takes merely minutes to process. People need to
understand that it is not all about the drama and the intensity of the scene, but knowledge and skills it
takes for a proper court to function. Individuals need realize that our Law, which derives from our
infamous constitution, is what protects and regulates not only our lives, but also everything that is
justice around us. Within this paper I will be talking about three major points that I believe that are
important to the readers mind. First, is to announce my views of the distortion that media has created
for humanity to be less educated of the actual law and court system. Second, is to inform the readers
of how law works in the real world and significant differences between the real law and what media
has perceived law to look like. With readers both informed of the real and non real sides of the law, I
will lastly give a brief story of my own experience of going to court. The law is here to protect our
rights and freedom, yet somehow media has create a great amount profit in

In a world that is often immersed in darkness, I strive to be a beacon of hope for those who are
mentally and physically suffering. As a person who views the world in an ecological standpoint, I
believe the environment plays a significant role in the development of a person. My personal
experience in struggling with the fallout of my parents divorce, living in unfavorable conditions, and
providing consolation to my family members terrors of abuse has shaped me into a resilient and
perceptive individual. When I was six, my mother filed for divorce due to domestic violence that
resulted in my father leaving California. He refused to pay child support, bringing my family of five
into poverty. Having had few resources for an extended period of time, I began to feel powerless and
shameful for not being able to fix the situation. Thankfully, a family friend referred my mother to
Laura s House, a non profit organization that helps people who suffer from domestic violence. The
organization provided us with emotional support, adequate meals, financial and legal aid. Because of
their selfless efforts we were able to have a sustainable life again. I continue to feel blessed for the
organization s intervention and it showed me that social services impacts lives for the better. Presently,
I have an optimistic outlook on life and I want to reciprocate my experience by contributing my efforts

Leaked documents about the agreement have revealed the proposed inclusion of Investment State
Dispute Settlements (ISDS), which can be viewed as a neoliberal attack on democracy, resulting in
immeasurable effects on EU governments such as the UK s. This mechanism is designed to protect
foreign organisations investing in another country, and allows companies to claim and sue against that
country if a conflict arises that will limit their profits. The ISDS lies in the foreign corporations favour,
but not in the governments, limiting the UK and many other EU countries governmental authority,
binding them strictly to the rules of the TTIP. ISDS works like a global legal straightjacket that makes
it very, very difficult and expensive for governments to regulate corporations ... It is dangerous for
democracy, claims Pia Eberhardt, of Corporate Europe Observatory (CEO), a Brussels based

organisations in order to avoid conflict with multinational US corporations; stealthily, the neoliberal
theory underhandedly infiltrating through.

who also set a number of deadlines for compliance (SOX Law ). The Sarbanes Oxley Act is arranged

Comparison Of Apple s IOS And Android OS
Comparison of Apple s IOS and Android OS Nowadays, smartphones have been an irreplaceable and
indispensable part of people s daily life. What makes the smartphones so smart is the OS, in other
words, the operation system. The OS is the basic and soul of a smartphone, which means if the phone
is the body, then the OS is the neural network and intellectual system to control the body. Among
diverse operation systems, Apple s IOS and Android OS are the most outstanding, they have occupied
about 96 percent of the whole global smartphone market together. They are both widely used and liked
by individuals but they also have own advantages and disadvantages. The first difference is in
Customizability. Accessing and completing control over the devices is available the bootloader can
also be unlocked by Android users while that is not available for IOS users. Users of IOS are highly
limited to customize it unless jailbreak, but after jailbreak, the Apple Company will be no longer and
no need to keep its promise on the products because jailbreak is banned by the official. The OS of
Android is totally different, users can change almost everything if they want to. This difference comes
from the different source model, which is closed, with open source component in IOS and open in
Android. The iOS kernel is not an open source but is based on the open source Darwin OS while the
Kernel, UI, and some standard apps of Android are all open source. As a result, Android can be more

Analyzing The Thoughts Of Ancient Philosophers
Analyzing the Thoughts of Ancient Philosophers
3 Major Ideas from The Republic Books 1 5 The Republic is exemplary in showing the knowledge of
the philosophers of Socrates and Plato s day. Socrates argument of what justice is shows many
dynamics and layers within his mind. Socrates will never start a conversation with someone else
without being able to get a new thought completely fabricated from their own mind. He is a very
intelligent philosopher; proven by the fact that he can jump start a conversation and watch it go for
ages between many men while never giving his two cents. When the topic of what justice is comes up
between Socrates and the other men, he never once tells the men what he thinks during the first few
books of The Republic, he just has points to refute all of their suggestions. As stated in A Companion
to Socrates, Socrates impact on the world with his philosophical teaching was tremendous, and he
owes it all to the teaching habits and skills that he obtained throughout the years. (Ahbel) His
willingness to provide a topic and then watch it unfold between many other arguers was a quality that
allowed many students to learn from themselves, just through the help of Socrates. He wasn t the sort
of teacher that would talk at his students, he liked to have them scour their own brains and come up
with their own knowledge and ideas. In The Republic, Socrates demonstrates these skills specifically
toward a few major ideas. When Thrasymachus tells his idea

Against Legalization Of Marijuana Essay
There currently exists a great debate concerning Legalization of marijuana. Many people are against
the idea, but there are a number of people who fight for the idea to legalize Marijuana. The people that
try to Legalize Marijuana use two major arguments in their effort to have marijuana legalized. First,
which is by far the biggest argument is that marijuana has a significant medical use. The second is that
marijuana does not cause harm to those that smoke it. Both of these arguments can be easily
discounted by the numerous studies that have been done on the effects of marijuana both medicinal
and recreational. Many well intentioned leaders and members of the public have been misled by the

The fact is that there is not one reliable scientific study that shows smoking marijuana to be a safe and
effective drug.
The majority of the marijuana advocates evidence comes from unscientific, non scrutinized or
analysed anecdotal statements from people with a variety of illnesses. It is unknown whether these
individuals used marijuana prior to their illness or are using marijuana in combination with other
medicines. It is also unknown whether they have had recent medical examinations, are justifying their
use of marijuana, experiencing a placebo effect, or experiencing the intoxicating effect of smoking
marijuana. The main psychoactive ingredient in marijuana (THC) is already legally available in
pharmaceutical capsule form by prescription from medical doctors. This drug, Marinol, is less often
prescribed because of the potential adverse effects, and there are more effective new medicines
currently available. Marinol differs from the crude plant marijuana because it consists of one pure,
well studied, FDA approved pharmaceutical in stable known dosages. Marijuana is an unstable
mixture of over 400 chemicals including many toxic psychoactive chemicals, which are largely
unstudied and appear in uncontrolled strengths.

Rewards And Rewards For Rewarding Performance
Rewarding Performance There are several different methods for rewarding performance as well but
rewarding performance methods fall into several different categories. There are intrinsic rewards,
extrinsic rewards, financial rewards, non financial rewards, performance based rewards, membership
based rewards, and many other rewards. Intrinsic Rewards Intrinsic rewards consist of the
satisfactions one gets from the job itself or furthermore, when an employee experiences feelings of
personal growth or achievement from a job. These satisfactions are self initiated rewards, such as
having a feeling of accomplishment, having pride in one s work, or being part of a team. Techniques
such as flex time, short work weeks, job rotation, and job enrichment can offer intrinsic rewards by
allowing the employee greater freedom and providing interesting and challenging jobs. Intrinsic
rewards are non physical rewards meaning they cannot be seen or touched but they are emotionally
connected with the employees. Intrinsic rewards are directly related to job performance as successful
tasks automatically produce them. The higher the success rate, the higher the intrinsic rewards one
receives will be. There are various forms of intrinsic rewards but five common ones are sense of
achievement, words of praise from the seniors, recognition, taking pride from the job, and work
freedom or autonomy. Sense of achievement consists of the employee feeling joy seeing his or her

The Effects Of Traffic Congestion
Traffic congestion in the United States is becoming increasingly salient to citizens, private companies,
and government actors. Traffic congestion, particularly on major highways and interstates, increases
with economic development and production. First, as the economy develops, workers income rises.
Public transportation is an inferior good in that a person s demand for it decreases as their income
rises. Thus, as workers in a growing economy gain income, they begin to purchase vehicles, which
leads to more drivers on the roads (Road Congestion). A second way in which economic growth
affects traffic congestion is through business and other urban development. As a city s borders expand
with new businesses and residential areas, the amount of people increases quickly, while new
infrastructure to sustain them follows slowly behind in a dragging effect. To worsen the problem, these
new businesses have new employees who travel on the same roads at the same time of day, which
further leads to congestion during peak hours (Winaisathaporn).
It is important to understand that traffic congestions are more than an annoyance to the daily
commuter, but a huge negative externality on society. A negative externality is a cost imposed on a
person due to the productivity or actions of another person. As established, congestion is directly
caused by economic development by the government and private firms. But what does traffic
congestion cost us? An article summarizing results from the

a report found that the amount of U.S. hospitals with completely available CPOE system was

The Effect of the Scopes Trial on Education
The 1920s was a decade of significant importance in the world of science.
In 1859, Charles Darwin declared his theory of evolution humans had descended from apes. This
ideology was unpopular throughout the minds of freedom and Jesus loving Americans. Although 1920
s technology was on its way to new findings, the traditionally southern public eye didn t seem to be
fascinated with the thought of people descending from humongous and hairy beings. The American
Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) supported Darwin s theory, though. The Union was formed to protect
the rights proclaimed by the Constitution and Bill of Rights. With that mission in mind, the ACLU
paid for John Scopes defense team and promoted that he challenge the law (Leinwand 206). John
Scopes was a science teacher in Dayton, Tennessee, specializing in biology. He used a state approved
textbook to teach his students, but because the book included Darwin s theory of evolution, Scopes
was not legally able to teach that portion of the text. He was then arrested for violating the Butler Act,
which was just recently passed, and defended the ACLU (Green 164).

School boards and textbook publishers made it a point to put an end to the teaching of evolution in
schools throughout the United States entirely. The textbook used by John Scopes in Tennessee was
actually renamed as New Civic Biology to differentiate it from the previously used book explaining
evolution. George Hunter, the publisher of the biology textbook, feared that the publicity from the
Scopes Trial would cause harm to the usage of his book in classrooms. Because of this frightening
thought, Hunter eliminated the section involving evolution, as well as many other of biology textbook
publishers did at the

Relationships In The Giver
The Giver What relationships tend to be the closest in someone s live? Jonas, from The Giver by Lois
Lowry, always thought his family and friends were the closest to him but one job changed everything.
He never knew what real relationships or what love really was until he met The Giver.
Jonas was a normal kid with lots of friends and a close family. He was doing his volunteer hours
normally and waiting for the ceremony of twelves where he would find out his job. But at the
ceremony Jonas ha[d] been selected to be [the] next Receiver of Memory (76). This is [T]he most
important job in the community (84). Jonas meets The Giver during his training and understands what

The Education System Must Be Redesigned
During the first three decades of the twentieth century, the progressive era had catapulted curriculum
theory into a field of scientific inquiry. Its structure had been differentiated and the curriculum content
had been expanded. All changes were created to meet the demands of a newly industrialized and
urbanized civilization, and as a result scientific management became the guide for the development
and implementation of the new curriculum. Franklin Bobbitt, one of the 19th century front runners of
scientific curriculum, stated that if the scientific procedures utilized in factories could increase
productivity and efficiency, the same procedures could be used to improve curriculum (Flinders
Thornton, p. 8). Bobbitt believed that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dewey as a humanist, declared that education should be culturally relevant, student centered, and
prepare children to become active citizens for a changing society. Humanists believe that all children
have the ability to develop different levels of mental reasoning. Education should help them expand
the development of their reasoning power to become independent thinkers and productive beings who
could lead to the improvement of society as a whole. Despite all of these differences, Bobbitt and
Dewey both agreed that some subjects were unnecessary and subject matter must have educational
value and relevance to the student s life. The biggest difference between the theories was that Dewey
placed the focus of the curriculum on the child, while Bobbitt did not. John Dewey s curriculum
method allows children to develop a passion for learning and brings out their natural inquisitiveness.
He believed the child needed to be involved in constructing their own learning, which meant they had
the freedom to make inquiries and mistakes in the process of learning. Children s active participation
for acquiring knowledge was his philosophy and to be a critical being was his ultimate goal. Dewey s
student centered methods can still be seen in many of today s schools across the nation. Unfortunately,
because of education reforms, more schools have chosen to abandon student centered strategies,
instead teaching students testing

Animal Farm Essay on Utopia
THE UTOPIAN DREAM, WHILE NOBLE, IS SHORT SIGHTED BECAUSE IT FAILS TO
ACCOUNT FOR THE FLAWS IN HUMAN NATURE. George Orwell s allegorical novel Animal
Farm demonstrates the rapid shift from hopeful Utopian Dream, to reproachful dystopian nightmare as
a result of fundamental flaws in human nature, such as avarice, selfishness and the thirst for power
over others. In the novel, the animals are promised a better life if they revolt and institute the system
of Animalism, then they are promised a better life if they build the windmill and, if all else fails, the
raven promises a better afterlife on Sugarcandy Mountain . However, the animals ultimately never
achieve their utopia because of the avaricious and power hungry nature of Napoleon ... Show more

The resigned apathy and passivity of some of the animals allows for faster erosion of the dream of
equality and allows for the pigs to maintain the power that wasn t rightfully theirs. A typical example
of general passivity towards the pigs actions was Benjamin, the old donkey. Having knowledge of the
pig s hypocrisy, Benjamin consciously decided against actions of rebellion against the pigs, instead
resigning himself to the fact that he could not help the situation. After Boxer s death, Clover is so
emotionally destroyed by his sudden disappearance that she ceases to do anything. In accepting his
death as the pigs tell her, she is being passive and not searching for her own conclusions, even though
she had doubts about it. It these, plus many more examples of passivity towards the pig s reign, that
concludes in the animals having to forfeit any hope of the once so real, Utopian Dream. Animal Farm
is the story of the animals that rebel against their master in order to achieve their dream of a utopian
society. The book opens in an optimistic mood as Old Major in his speech describes a simple, natural
farm in which all the animals are free and equal. But gradually this energetic and positive mood
disappears, as the animals difficulties become progressively

Dismantling Stagnation Of South America
Dismantling stagnation in Mercosur
Introduction
Before the 1990s, economic integration in Latin America was overshadowed isolation mechanisms
placing barriers between neighboring countries in hopes of developing domestic growth. By the turn
of the last decade in the 20th century, more countries became increasingly interested in the potential
benefits of deeply integrating nations through cross border trading. The countries of the Southern
Cone of South America courageously took modern economic initiatives. Since then, the region has
created mix results of whether their choices have liberated the region of trade barriers or created a
fortress all on their own. In this paper I will be focusing on the customs union Mercosur by detailing
its creation, discussing the critical events which have contributed to the group s stagnation, and
assessing the group s current role in the global economy.
Background
In the 1980s, Argentina and Brazil placed their political differences aside and created a compact trade
agreement to further economic cooperation and stability for years to come. In 1985, the Declaration of
Iguaca opened up the dialogue between the two countries to pursue further integration with a
committee meeting specializing in the economic and industry sectors. The Argentina Brazil
Integration and Economic Cooperation Program (PICE) was later established in 1988 to start a more
modern approach to gradually cut out trade barriers and create a common market within the next ten

Buddhism As A Mere Alternative To Buddhism In The Fifth...
Buddhism As a mere alternative to Hinduism, Buddhism emerged in the fifth century to overcome the
empty perception in the main religion of the time. It was started by an Indian prince named Siddhartha
Gautama (later known as the Buddha ) who left his royal life to find Enlightenment. This man s
journey was the starting point of a religion that has become one of the world s biggest and most
popular. In the beginnings, Buddhism was started singlehandedly by Siddhartha Gautama, an Indian
prince who was the son of Queen Maha Maya, Mahapajapati Gotami, and King Śuddhodana. He was
born in Lumbini (present day Nepal) during the fifth century BCE. According to Buddhist tradition,
Siddhartha lived a wealthy and comfortable life as a prince until at one point, he left on a journey and
was horrified at the sight of four people suffering of old age, illness, poverty, and death. At the age of
29, after witnessing their sufferings, he decided to leave his family in an attempt to seek
enlightenment through self discipline, or asceticism, but even his most intense asceticism didn t bring
him enlightenment. He then sat under a tree for 49 days vowing not to move until he had reached
enlightenment. He came out as the Buddha, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Tea Of Tea Master
When I first entered the tea house, the aroma of many tea leaves struck me in my nose. I was deeply
welcomed by many people. The atmosphere was very lively. The first thing I realized when sitting
down at the tea gathering table was the amount of utensils there were to make a cup of tea and the
traditional clothing Tea Master Michael Fung was wearing. This made me feel like Tea Master
Michael Fung was deeply passionate and interested in the art of tea. As more students came, I realized
that it was very cramped. It reminded me of a quote when Dr. Jack said that it was best to drink tea
with only two people and the more we have the more it feels uncomfortable. During the beginning of
the ceremony, Tea Master Michael Fung, owner of The Best Tea House Co. , took many aged Pu er tea
cakes for us to experiment and observe. Many students and I, saw many differences such as how it
smells and how the colour changes over time. Tea Master Michael Fung also talked about the history
and the origins of tea and why it is drank and how it is developed. He also mentioned that the waxing
paper determines the tea s quality. Pu er tea is an aged dark tea produced in Yunnan province of China
under the process of fermentation and Tea Master Michael Fung showed us the difference between
Sheng and Shu Cha and its health benefits. Since Pu er tea can be stored to mature, I observed that
there was a year and the region of production on each packaging. There was also many shapes such as

Modern Traditionalism Vs Modernism
The period of the twentieth century, specifically the nineteen twenties, was a historically significant
event in history due to the dramatic changes politically and socially. In this time period there was
many altercations between two specific groups who had completely different outlooks on change.
Modernists, or people who tended to be in favor of new ideas, styles and social trends, embraced the
idea of change during this time period whereas traditionalist, or people who are opposed to change,
had deep respect for long held cultural and religious values that they believed should not be broken
under any circumstances. The disputes between the traditionalist and modernist over religious beliefs
made way into the woman s lives leaving pop culture to rise rapidly.
In the centuries leading up to the Jazz and the Machine Age , the nineteen twenties was in a major
dispute over religious beliefs between the traditionalist and the modernists. In 1925, a trial was held
that was known as the Scopes trial. John scopes, a high school teacher, taught the theory of evolution
in a Tennessee public high school. At the time, Tennessee had a state law they made it illegal to teach
evolution in schools. The modernists had believed that the teachings of evolution gave the public
another perspective through science but not religion. The traditionalist however, feared that the
teaching of the Bible would be lost along with religious morals if Scope had won the trial.
Traditionalist had

6 + 1 Traits Of Writing Analysis
Education Northwest created 6+1 Traits of Writing as a method for teaching and assessing writing.
This model consists of six writing qualities, ideas, voice, organization, conventions, word choice, and
fluency, and one appearance quality, presentation. The main theme and the details of the writing are
presented in the ideas of the piece. The ideas describe how clearly the writer shows his thoughts. The
internal structure of the writing is presented through the organization , which lays out the sequence of
the story, its strength and logic, and the connections in the written material. The writer expresses his
feelings trough the voice . The voice distinguishes the writer as who he is. Through the word choice ,
the writer articulates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Too often students think that they cannot write and that is because they do not know what is expected
of them. With proper modeling and guiding, the 6+1 traits of writing helps students develop their
skills. The rubrics aid students in evaluating their own writing and make improvements. These traits,
which should be taught in English classes, can and should be applied in other classes, such as math,
science, and history. For example, in math class students demonstrate sentence fluency when they
explain their reasoning while solving problems. In science class, students practice and use the
convention trait when applying formulas and assigning units of measurements, the same way they use
grammar and punctuation in English classes. Although 6+1 Traits of Writing has seven essential traits,
which should be taught and assessed by English teachers, in my opinion, content area teachers,
included myself, do not have to use all of them concurrently. In Math or Science classes, I can focus
on one or two traits, depending on the information which is being taught during a certain lesson. A
great way to implement and use this model would be writing a research paper with a theme from
history or science in collaboration with the English teachers, whose focus would be teaching the
sentence fluency and conventions. Six plus one traits of writing can be applied in core classes, but
only if it is taught in English Language Arts

Metaphors In August Wilson s Play Fences
August Wilson s play Fences utilizes strong metaphors in relaying the deeper meaning of the actual
story. The main theme that provides the key to understanding the multiply imagery in this play has to
do with how one s past affects their future, importance of family, the American Dream and
personal/cultural history. Throughout August Wilson s play Fences , it is clearly shown how much
Troy, the father of an African American family, is pulled economically by all of the characters
surrounding him. Taking on the role of the breadwinner to his wife and children reminds Troy how his
father hated doing the same thing and did so with antipathy. The influence of economics along with
past experiences in Troy s life makes him resentful towards his ... Show more content on

The play is set during the 40 s and 50 s, during this Era African Americans faced considerable
obstacles in their everyday lives due to Jim Crow laws and unwritten, racially biased social codes.
These laws and behaviors created strictly segregated barriers, and discrimination pervaded most areas
of life. Despite the ongoing hardships, the 1940s was a time of creativity, increased economic
opportunity and the beginning of the modern civil rights movement. It is as well here where Wilson
talks about how during this time, black athletes had become an integrated part of professional and
college sports. Most all white teams of the World War II and previous years began to include African
Americans by 1947, during the time Jackie Robinson became the first black to play professional
baseball since the color line was drawn in the 1890s. Needless to say, the change still didn t bring the
same opportunity and equality most African Americans had hoped for. Which is why we tend to see
where Troy s angry started, his dream of being in the Major League never came too. Black leagues
began to slowly disappear as more African Americans began to support the now integrated ball teams
Troy Maxson, who had played in the Negro Leagues, found the change to integrated leagues had come
too late; which is why he was too old to play professional

  • 2. The Electoral College Is If You Don t Understand It It is difficult to completely understand and in a way appreciate what the Electoral College is if you don t understand it. Therefore, this paper will go in depth as to how the voting process works in the United States, with a main focus on the Electoral College. I will start by talking about the background, what challenges and problems it was trying to solve, how it came to be and who came up with such idea. Secondly, I would talk about the advantages the Electoral College possesses, such as it keeps small states as viable participants, it maintains division of power and how it s beneficial to the candidates and their campaign. But as with everything, there are also some disadvantages that come with such, example, ignoring the will of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The function of the college electors is for the most knowledgeable and informed individuals from each State to chose the president based solely on merit without regarding the state of orginal or political party. The way electors are chosen varies from state to state. Usually political parties nominate electors at their states conventions. Sometimes that process occurs by a vote of the parties central committee. These electors are usually state elected officials, party leaders or people with a strong affiliation with the presidential candidates. Prior to Election Day each major political party has selected their slate of electors that will vote in December if their party wins that state. When it comes to electing the president there are a total of 538 men and women electors who meet on one day in December of a presidential election year. The next president will be the man or woman who receives at least 270 electoral votes (half of 538 plus one). Prior to the 12th amendment the President and the Vice President were both chosen on the same ballet. The one with the greater votes became the President and the one with the second highest votes become the Vice President. Some would prefer that we chose our president based of a popularity contest, a more democratic thing to do. but if that was the case, then the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Definition Of Maintaining Rule Of Law V: Morality Ought Criterion: Maintaining Rule of Law The rule of law is vital to keep power with the people and prevent a government from being all powerful and oppressive. Specific to the actor (juror) Jurors become part of the legal system, part of the governance, so they are particularly obligated to society as a whole. Contention 1 Jury nullification undermines legal stability by wrongfully distributing lawmaking powers and destroying due process and objective application. Legal expert, Erick Haynie writes: Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology Volume 88 Issue 1 Fall Article 8 Fall 1997 Populism, Free Speech, and the Rule of Law: The Fully Informed Jury Movement and its Implications Erick J. Haynie 1. Rule of Law v. Rule of Men ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 6 This reality was explained long ago in the Supreme Court s landmark decision of Sparf Hansen v. United States,8 7 which addressed the issue of jury nullification in the federal court system. Holding that it is the right and duty of the trial judge to instruct the jury to follow the law, the Court wrote that: Public and private safety alike would be in peril if the principle be established that juries in criminal cases may, of right, [be told to] disregard the law as expounded to them by the court, and become a law unto themselves. Under such a system, the principal function of the judge would be to preside and keep order while jurymen, untrained in the law, would determine questions affecting life, liberty, or property according to such legal principles as, in their judgement, were applicable to the particular case being tried.... We must hold firmly to the doctrine that in the courts of the United States it is the duty ofjuries in criminal cases to take the law from the court, and apply that law to the facts as they find them to be from the evidence. The Ninth Circuit has criticized nullification arguments by counsel as violative of the rule of law in even stronger terms: If we... allow lawyers to appeal for jury nullification ... Imagine yourself knowing that you are one of the smartest people in the world and you are the best at what you do and some stranger comes along and makes you feel like you are the dumbest person existing. This is the fate that befell neurosurgeon Dr. Stephen Strange in the movie Dr. Strange, directed by Scott Derrickson. In a twist of the tale that combines both spiritual elements and the modern world, director Scott Derrickson has managed to pull off one of the most intricate Science Fictions of all time. • 5. Gender Is A Man Of The Physically Heritable Trait, Through... How I Learned to Drive has demonstrated that gender is a learned, in addition to the physically heritable trait, through society. Vogel stated that this play provides an opportunity to examine the issue at a microcosmic level at how we are taught at an extremely early age to look at female bodies (Mansbridge 124). The play is portraying a woman from her eleven years old to her forties. It detailed the process of how she gains her way to view her own body from her family, and especially Uncle Peck, can be seen clearly. This implied that our sexualities are gained through the society instead of ourselves, despite being the owner of our bodies. In order to successfully deliver Vogel s message, she revealed the secret at the end of the play in which Uncle Peck is a pedophile. Besides, various scenes were included before the revelation of the secret, such as interactions among Li l Bit s family and Uncle Peck provided a clear picture of the process of how Li l Bit became the victim of her uncle. It allowed the avoidance of the issue being preconceived by audiences as well as developing subjective opinions towards Uncle Peck through piecemeal information provided at each time points. In this way, the audiences are able to conceive Vogel s message more effectively. There are a few ways to view gender as a social construction, including: female sexuality and agency, femininity, masculinity and objectification of female. • 6. Vertigo and His Girl Friday The films Vertigo and His Girl Friday, directed by Alfred Hitchcock and Howard Hawks respectively, are good representations of classical cinema. A stigma associated with classical cinema is the film s portrayal of women. Feminist film theorists believe that the male protagonist play a more prominent role while women are only something to be looked at and acted upon. Both films possess a male and a female protagonist. His Girl Friday casts Cary Grant as a cunning newspaper editor named Walter Burns, as well as Rosalind Russell as former reporter and former wife of Walter, Hildy Johnson. Vertigo stars James Stewart as a former detective named Scottie Ferguson, and Kim Novak as Madeleine Ester, a woman Scottie is hired to investigate. Both films challenge the feminist s hypothesis with powerful and intelligent women who have some control over men in the film. Yet in both films the male protagonist ultimately has control over the female even though the stigma is tested throughout the entirety of both films. In the film His Girl Friday, Hildy Johnson is an ex reporter whose goal is to settle down and have a normal life with her fiancé Bruce Baldwin. She returns to tell Walter that she is finished reporting forever but Walter s goal is to make her a reporter again and eventually remarry her. Hildy is a beautiful woman and steals every scene she is in, other than perhaps the scenes involving Walter. In an early scene of the film Hildy enters in on the reporters playing ... This law required that state law enforcement officers attempt to determine an individual s immigration status during a lawful stop, detention or arrest , when there is reasonable suspicion that the individual is an illegal immigrant. During the Industrial Revolution, many power driven machines were invented, which replaced hand tools. Social impacts The Industrial Revolution increased the material wealth of the Western world. Since population was increasing in Great Britain at the same time that landowners were enclosing common village lands. This resulted in a very high unemployment rate for workers in the first phases of the Industrial Revolution. Desperate for work, the working class had no bargaining power to demand higher wages, fairer work hours, or better working conditions. Worse still, since only wealthy people in Great Britain were eligible to vote, workers could not use the democratic political system to fight for rights and reforms. Economic Effects In pre industrial times skilled craftsmen would work from traditional locations in the home and small workshops, this was known as the cottage industry. When the Industrial Revolution begun, machines, such as the steam engines were invented, to power large scale factories, the cottage industry system could not keep up with the demand of goods. Therefore more people were forced to seek employment in cities. Society s Media has Altered the Court Experience Societies media as we know it has altered the reality of The United States law and its courts, causing the real world to become more of a blur. Media has given people somewhat of a basic aspect of the law and how it works, but little do people know what television shows such as Bones, CSI, Law and Order, Judge Judy, and etc., has inaccurate ruling of the laws and procedures. Giving a shrouded haze over our eyes in believing that the law system takes merely minutes to process. People need to understand that it is not all about the drama and the intensity of the scene, but knowledge and skills it takes for a proper court to function. Individuals need realize that our Law, which derives from our infamous constitution, is what protects and regulates not only our lives, but also everything that is justice around us. Within this paper I will be talking about three major points that I believe that are important to the readers mind. First, is to announce my views of the distortion that media has created for humanity to be less educated of the actual law and court system. Second, is to inform the readers of how law works in the real world and significant differences between the real law and what media has perceived law to look like. With readers both informed of the real and non real sides of the law, I will lastly give a brief story of my own experience of going to court. As a person who views the world in an ecological standpoint, I believe the environment plays a significant role in the development of a person. My personal experience in struggling with the fallout of my parents divorce, living in unfavorable conditions, and providing consolation to my family members terrors of abuse has shaped me into a resilient and perceptive individual. When I was six, my mother filed for divorce due to domestic violence that resulted in my father leaving California. He refused to pay child support, bringing my family of five into poverty. Having had few resources for an extended period of time, I began to feel powerless and shameful for not being able to fix the situation. Thankfully, a family friend referred my mother to Laura s House, a non profit organization that helps people who suffer from domestic violence. The organization provided us with emotional support, adequate meals, financial and legal aid. Because of their selfless efforts we were able to have a sustainable life again. I continue to feel blessed for the organization s intervention and it showed me that social services impacts lives for the better. Presently, I have an optimistic outlook on life and I want to reciprocate my experience by contributing my efforts in helping others as a social worker and spread awareness that receiving assistance is not a ... What makes the smartphones so smart is the OS, in other words, the operation system. The OS is the basic and soul of a smartphone, which means if the phone is the body, then the OS is the neural network and intellectual system to control the body. Among diverse operation systems, Apple s IOS and Android OS are the most outstanding, they have occupied about 96 percent of the whole global smartphone market together. They are both widely used and liked by individuals but they also have own advantages and disadvantages. The first difference is in Customizability. Accessing and completing control over the devices is available the bootloader can also be unlocked by Android users while that is not available for IOS users. Users of IOS are highly limited to customize it unless jailbreak, but after jailbreak, the Apple Company will be no longer and no need to keep its promise on the products because jailbreak is banned by the official. The OS of Android is totally different, users can change almost everything if they want to. This difference comes from the different source model, which is closed, with open source component in IOS and open in Android. Analyzing The Thoughts Of Ancient Philosophers Analyzing the Thoughts of Ancient Philosophers 3 Major Ideas from The Republic Books 1 5 The Republic is exemplary in showing the knowledge of the philosophers of Socrates and Plato s day. Socrates argument of what justice is shows many dynamics and layers within his mind. Socrates will never start a conversation with someone else without being able to get a new thought completely fabricated from their own mind. He is a very intelligent philosopher; proven by the fact that he can jump start a conversation and watch it go for ages between many men while never giving his two cents. When the topic of what justice is comes up between Socrates and the other men, he never once tells the men what he thinks during the first few books of The Republic, he just has points to refute all of their suggestions. As stated in A Companion to Socrates, Socrates impact on the world with his philosophical teaching was tremendous, and he owes it all to the teaching habits and skills that he obtained throughout the years. (Ahbel) His willingness to provide a topic and then watch it unfold between many other arguers was a quality that allowed many students to learn from themselves, just through the help of Socrates. He wasn t the sort of teacher that would talk at his students, he liked to have them scour their own brains and come up with their own knowledge and ideas. In The Republic, Socrates demonstrates these skills specifically toward a few major ideas. When Thrasymachus tells his idea ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

First, which is by far the biggest argument is that marijuana has a significant medical use. The second is that marijuana does not cause harm to those that smoke it. Rewards And Rewards For Rewarding Performance Rewarding Performance There are several different methods for rewarding performance as well but rewarding performance methods fall into several different categories. There are intrinsic rewards, extrinsic rewards, financial rewards, non financial rewards, performance based rewards, membership based rewards, and many other rewards. Intrinsic Rewards Intrinsic rewards consist of the satisfactions one gets from the job itself or furthermore, when an employee experiences feelings of personal growth or achievement from a job. These satisfactions are self initiated rewards, such as having a feeling of accomplishment, having pride in one s work, or being part of a team. Techniques such as flex time, short work weeks, job rotation, and job enrichment can offer intrinsic rewards by allowing the employee greater freedom and providing interesting and challenging jobs. Intrinsic rewards are non physical rewards meaning they cannot be seen or touched but they are emotionally connected with the employees. Intrinsic rewards are directly related to job performance as successful tasks automatically produce them. The higher the success rate, the higher the intrinsic rewards one receives will be. • 20. The Effects Of Traffic Congestion Traffic congestion in the United States is becoming increasingly salient to citizens, private companies, and government actors. Traffic congestion, particularly on major highways and interstates, increases with economic development and production. First, as the economy develops, workers income rises. Public transportation is an inferior good in that a person s demand for it decreases as their income rises. Thus, as workers in a growing economy gain income, they begin to purchase vehicles, which leads to more drivers on the roads (Road Congestion). A second way in which economic growth affects traffic congestion is through business and other urban development. As a city s borders expand with new businesses and residential areas, the amount of people increases quickly, while new infrastructure to sustain them follows slowly behind in a dragging effect. To worsen the problem, these new businesses have new employees who travel on the same roads at the same time of day, which further leads to congestion during peak hours (Winaisathaporn). It is important to understand that traffic congestions are more than an annoyance to the daily commuter, but a huge negative externality on society. A negative externality is a cost imposed on a person due to the productivity or actions of another person. As established, congestion is directly caused by economic development by the government and private firms. But what does traffic congestion cost us? An article summarizing results from the ... John Scopes Research Paper Alex Poppe Mrs. Lilley English III 14 April 2016 The Effect of the Scopes Trial on Education The 1920s was a decade of significant importance in the world of science. In 1859, Charles Darwin declared his theory of evolution humans had descended from apes. This ideology was unpopular throughout the minds of freedom and Jesus loving Americans. Although 1920 s technology was on its way to new findings, the traditionally southern public eye didn t seem to be fascinated with the thought of people descending from humongous and hairy beings. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) supported Darwin s theory, though. The Union was formed to protect the rights proclaimed by the Constitution and Bill of Rights. With that mission in mind, the ACLU paid for John Scopes defense team and promoted that he challenge the law (Leinwand 206). John Scopes was a science teacher in Dayton, Tennessee, specializing in biology. He used a state approved textbook to teach his students, but because the book included Darwin s theory of evolution, Scopes was not legally able to teach that portion of the text. He was then arrested for violating the Butler Act, which was just recently passed, and defended the ACLU (Green 164). Not only did the majority of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dewey as a humanist, declared that education should be culturally relevant, student centered, and prepare children to become active citizens for a changing society. Humanists believe that all children have the ability to develop different levels of mental reasoning. Education should help them expand the development of their reasoning power to become independent thinkers and productive beings who could lead to the improvement of society as a whole. Despite all of these differences, Bobbitt and Dewey both agreed that some subjects were unnecessary and subject matter must have educational value and relevance to the student s life. The biggest difference between the theories was that Dewey placed the focus of the curriculum on the child, while Bobbitt did not. John Dewey s curriculum method allows children to develop a passion for learning and brings out their natural inquisitiveness. He believed the child needed to be involved in constructing their own learning, which meant they had the freedom to make inquiries and mistakes in the process of learning. Children s active participation for acquiring knowledge was his philosophy and to be a critical being was his ultimate goal. Dewey s student centered methods can still be seen in many of today s schools across the nation.
