Gonzales Vs Carhart Summary
Gonzales v. Carhart was a supreme court case that was arguing on whether there should be partial
birth abortion. I do not agree with abortion anyway, let alone partial birth. The two main people
involved in the case, were Alberto R. Gonzales and Leroy Carhart. Gonzales was the petitioner who
brought the case to the court and Carhart was the respondent. Gonzales wanted to overturn the Partial
Birth Abortion Act, which was basically an act saying partial birth abortion is not allowed. Gonzales
proposed a ruling of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit in favor of LeRoy
Carhart that was attempting to tackle the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act. On the other side was
Carhart, who was against partial birth abortion and wanted the act to stand. Carharts perspective in my
opinion is the right one. I do understand that there are, some cases that abortion might be necessary
and that might protect someone s own health. If it is protecting the mother s health and it is the last
choice the mother has then I will support her decision. But for the most part it is just teen getting
pregnant from unprotected sex then not being able to care for the child. In the USA alone there are 2
million couples waiting to adopt. In 2011 1.06 million abortions took place. In just two years we could
give children to all of the couples ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Android Phones versus iPhones
There is a running joke in the geeky realm of our society that says there are two types of people in the
world, those who use iPhones and those who use Androids. Most of the time, people either love or
hate either gadget, there isn t much room to have mediocre feelings towards these devices. They are
both amazing handheld devices, which perform a multitude of tasks. They guide us, entertain us, teach
us, organize us, the list can go on and on. The Android and iPhone are two very comparative devices
that many of us use on a daily basis. Although they have very similar functions and features, the two
are quite different in how they operate, and what permissions they allow the user to have. First, I
would like to explain to you what an operating system is. I will be using the term, operating system,
throughout this essay and many people do not have a clear understanding of what it is. Simply put, an
operating system is the brain of any computer or electronic device. The operating system is a bundle
of information that directs all the operations that a computer does in order to function properly. The
operating system sends information to and from communication resources of applications that you use
or your device uses. When the geniuses of Silicon Valley were discovering how to create a system that
would allow for multiple applications to be used, they gave birth to the operating system. This very
basic system was called Linux. Linux is the most fundamental base of an

Symbolism In Revelations
... In the days of their prophecy: [they will] have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite
the earth with all plagues, as often as they will. (Rev. 11:6). This connection between blood and the
beginning of the plague are a key theme throughout Revelations, and have continued in modern
literature through zombieism and AIDS. Although the End is usually spoken about within the idea of
naturalistic destruction on Earth, the End may be more human than that and come unexpectedly from
humanity itself: They are frightening for the very reason that they do not look like our enemies at all...
they look disturbingly like our co workers, neighbours, friends and families (Dendle 50); they being
the key term. The idea of this they , this other ness in Revelations, gives us an insight of what is to

Otherness within zombieism can be represented through the Haitian zombie; the zombie symbol of
otherness, of blackness , of the savage in both the offensive and zombie context. Dendle discusses
blackness and the blood of the Haitian zombie within the context of a 1935 film called Ouanga; ...
even though her skin appeared fully white, she still has black blood in her veins... your white skin
doesn t change what s inside you (47). This directly connects to AIDS and the idea of the general
population , which can be explained as not just whites but heterosexuals (Sontag 67). Long goes into
detail of why this is, explaining that homosexuality itself [had already been made out to be] a
contagious disease; an apocalyptic signifier, a sign of end times , (2) so when the epidemic of AIDS
hit, the general population believed that it was punishment for not living God s way , and further
emphasized their other ness by mentioning its spread in South Africa. (Sontag

Puberty Rites Of Passage
In many cultures around the world, ceremonies are held or rituals are undergone to mark the passage
of adolescents into adulthood. These are known as rites of passage. Rites of passage, is a term first
coined by Arnold Van Gennep in 1909 to describe the universal transition of adolescents by
maturational progression, a phenomenon that is cross cultural (Gibson, 2007). Indeed, the term
puberty rites and rite of passage can be used interchangeably. Because puberty is an experience all
humans have, the rite of passage may reflect cultural evolution as co occurring with bodily changes
(Weisfeld ,1997, as cited by Gibson, 2007). Rites of passage can also signify changes of status in other
stages of life, and these transitions seem to be demarcated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is theorized that the adolescent rite of passage has lost its importance because of a change in focus
from communal concerns to individuality, or exposure to varied belief systems (Gibson, 2007). Some
youth, who lack the completion of these semblances of rites, create their own through activities such
as the use of substances, body modification, or gang initiation (Sande, 2002; Vigil, 1996; Wall, n.d., as
cited by Gibson, 2007). A possible reason for the fading of formal rites, is a societal move away from
the importance of sexual maturity for reproduction reasons to a society that instead imbues status for
financial and vocational gains (Gibson,

The United States General Election Essay
While the 2016 United States general election has been in itself special with regards to the deep
division among the electorate and lack of favorability of the two frontrunners for the presidency, it still
has the unique American system of being dominated by two major political parties; Republicans and
Democrats. Over time these political parties have experienced massive changes but in modern
America they have crafted very unique identities. With regards to social issues such as abortion rights
and treatment of minority groups and economic issues such as fiscal spending, income taxes and
welfare, Republicans in general have been characterized as mainly conservative, tax averse and
against government entitlements while Democrats have been generally characterized as mainly liberal
on these same issues. Altogether political affiliations to either the right or the left can be categorized
based on their preference for stability. Liberals are generally seen as being more adaptable to a
changing environment for example in the case for LGBTQ rights where the changing environment has
generally led them to be more acceptable while conservatives are more likely to be less open, sticking
to what they consider traditional values. These attributes have for a long time been seen to be largely
determined by the political atmosphere in an individuals environment but growing research has shown
that these characteristics have a significant association with human genetics. In this paper I

Sigmund Freud And Erikson s Theory Of Human Development
Introduction
The issue of human development has been a related one within the human society. In this respect,
there are several developmental theories that have been forwarded by some of the world s most well
known psychologists. The two main psychoanalytic theories are Sigmund Freud s psychosexual theory
and Erik Erikson s psychosocial theory. They are the two names that one cannot miss while talking
about psychology. Sigmund Freud is called the father of psychology while Erik Erikson s ideas have
become the best known.

Their theories were unique in their own way. Freud s psychosexual theory was focused almost entirely
on male development with little mention of female psychosexual development. When Fisher
Greenberg (1996) evaluated psychosexual hypotheses specifically on female they found nothing.
According to McLeod, S. (2013) Freud based his theory on the recollections of his childhood and his
adult patients, not on actual observation and study of children. On the other hand Erikson s studies
were based on children, college students and most importantly he observed his own children

The Shaping of American Society: The Moon Landing
The Moon Landing signified a moment in time that would never be forgotten. Even though it
happened decades ago, the world still feels the effect it had on the world. John F. Kennedy had a
dream to land a man on the moon, but many people in the nation believed it to be foolish.
(Linkinholder) Yet after it happened, it became one of the highest accomplishments in the history of
mankind . When the three men landed on the moon it was a change for the nation, but it was a more of
a change for the people that were on the mission.

Bro Policy Assignment
Using the policy scripts/analysers, ASCII text logs, which relate to the applications, are generated
(http.log for HTTP traffic, ftp.log for FTP traffic, and so on). These logs tell an operator that
problematic events have occurred, such as potential attempts to exploit a vulnerable service,
malformed but not necessarily malicious traffic, new services starting that should not be running, or
users violating a corporate policy, for example, by using instant messaging (IM). Bro has two different
types of event handlers for information notification that might interest the operator/analyst. The notice
function handles everything from errors to engine messages to notification of potentially bad
information. By default, a notice is stored in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The major drawback of this approach, however, is that scanning network traffic running on all ports
dramatically increases the processing load on the IDS, which easily leads to an underpowered system
dropping packets and missing potential attacks. This approach will not be viable on a low powered
single board computer as we intend to use. However, both IDS approaches do some form of protocol
parsing to give to the analysts the ability to finely control what they want to search for when
examining a given protocol. Bro IDS includes a facility to perform signature based detection and a
tool called snort2bro that converts Snort signatures to Bro IDS signatures. Same, Snort IDS signatures
can be written to search for anomalous traffic on a given network. However, this capability is limited
by which stream based interpreter the signature system can understand when finding anomalous
traffic. Both Snort and Bro also contain mechanisms to deal with multistage attacks. Snort s detection
in this area is primarily stream oriented: through the use of its flow bits keyword, Snort can tag a
given TCP stream or even a UDP pseudo stream (an active UDP conversation as having had part of
the components necessary for a successful attack without actually generating an alert). In such a case,
a second or third rule then becomes active on the stream in question, which generates an alert only

Compromised Parenting Research Paper
Parenting is a key factor in the advancement of society. It is used to train up the new generation to take
over. Parenting has been tainted over the years. Parents have opted for a more compromising style of
parenting which leads to compromised children, and compromised children are no good to the world.
Compromised parenting is the idea that we should accomodate to children s feelings and cater to their
preferences. This encourages narcissism, self entitlement, and victim thinking in children. Children
now learn to expect to be respected, not the other way around. You raise a generation of lazy, cocky,
disrespectful fools.

Justice In The Oresteia
In Aeschylus tragic trilogy The Oresteia, Aeschylus writes about a fundamental question in
philosophy. What is the nature of justice? In his plays, starting with Agamemnon, the Achaeans slowly
emerge and evolve from an older, more primitive autocratic form of justice, to a new concept of
justice devised by Athena. The trilogy culminates in hung jury trial, and eventually Orestes absolution.
The jury trial at the end of The Furies implies that justice is arbitrary, must include deliberation, and is
more than an eye for an eye.
In ancient Greece law of retaliation was similar to the eye for an eye concept. Because Clytemnestra
killed their father, it was only fair for Orestes to kill her. This is idea is imposed in the final play of the
trilogy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problem with revenge is that it never ends. Instead, revenge leads to more revenge, and it is
mentioned, towards the end of The Furies, as especially dangerous for civic order. The Furies
represent a more primordial sense of justice, which Athena is intent on changing. Aeschylus is
asserting that the cycle of violence and vindictive acts of justice is characteristic of a primitive society
and that some other way must be found to resolve the conflict of moral questions. The establishment
of the courts at the end of the trilogy directly concept of justice.
The establishment of the courts provides a place for the citizens to decide about what is moral and to
debate the details of specific cases. The emergence of the jury trial also suggests that justice is not just
unless it involves deliberation. In the earlier plays Orestes and Clytemnestra took justice into their
own hands by acting impulsively and Aeschylus implies in his tragedy that When a person seeks
justice they must be careful not to pursue it in a vindictive way because revenge will inevitably
transgress into suffering for the person seeking reprisal. the law needs to be concerned with definitions
justice itself. In other words, justice without judgment is too rash and impulsive. A jury is necessary so
that questions can be deliberated. Was Orestes matricide justified? Circumstances, motives and
consequences must be taken into account at trial. These are complicated moral

Computer Vs. Personal Computers
Smart phones and computer have been around for quite a while, but the only difference is that the
personal computers have been around way longer than smart phones. Before computers were a big
deal, but now it s all about smart phones and new ones that are launching soon. People may not think
so much about personal computers because today s generation is all about smart phones now. I
understand that people can have their own personal opinion and may disagree with what I m saying,
but my opinion is that personal computers are better. Personal computers is a better, electronic than
smart phones because personal computers are not a distraction, and are a lot more helpful. First,
personal computers are less distracting. Computer actually need access to Wi Fi in order to do
anything. I believe computer are better because if you have no Wi Fi then you can t access your social
media and wouldn t be distracted. You also won t be distracting while driving because you won t have
Wi Fi and it is actually safer because you can pay more attention to driving than being on social
media. Computers also don t receive text messages nor phone calls, which is a good thing. This
electronic is also good for when doing homework because you can listen to music, type better, and
faster on the keyboard. In contrary, smartphones are very distracting. Smartphones can be helpful
when you can t access Wi Fi for google maps or just looking up a store for hours, email and other
notifications. Smart phones

The Origins Of Yoga And The Second School Being Hatha Yoga
In 1893, a man by the name of Vivekananda came to speak at the Parliament of Religions in Chicago.

the United States while capturing the minds of brilliant Americans such as Gertrude Stein.
Vivekananda as well as the Doctrine of Yoga were a sensation, but what has become of the mystical

The young monk made a profound impression on the people who attended the speech. His speech left
people spellbound and enchanted. He was able to simplify Vedanta thought in such way that it was
more digestible for westerners and more importantly he conveyed the idea that all souls were
inherently divine. His mantra was relatable to American, work and worship. Vivekananda became a
star overnight. He proceeded to tour the country to further the doctrine of yoga across the nation. Yet
the yoga we see across our country is very different from the yogic tradition Vivekananda was
teaching. In fact Vivekananda had an absolute lack of interest in the physical aspect of yoga we see
today in our society. His goal in America was to help Americans realize God. He was considered the
first missionary from the east to the west and it was his goal to help Americans rid themselves of this
American individualism. He wanted to rise above the western perception of the east being this exotic

was quoted saying, I have a message to the West as Buddha had a message to the East. That being said
Vivekananda was a man of this world. He had reportedly been seen smoking and eating meat, so this
man was far from perfect. Yet nevertheless this man had quite the following. In fact Leo Tolstoy was

The ability to live alone is a power very few people possess. Grendel, by John Gardner, is a novel
based on the epic poem, Beowulf and narrated by Grendel, a grotesque monster who lives with his
mute mother in a desolate cave. He is in a 12 year war King Hrothgar and his people. Constantly
seeking and yet avoiding the human population, Grendel observes the Scyldings as their civilization
progresses with increasing curiosity. Grendel spends his days isolated from society, searching for a
purpose to his life in what to him seems like a meaningless universe. On his journey he encounters a
clairvoyant dragon who mentors him on the nature of the universe, and sees the rise and fall of
different empires. Seeing humanities cruelty and senseless violence frustrates him. His hatred
ultimately leads to his downfall as he meets Beowulf and is killed. In the novel Grendel, by John
Gardner, Grendel is portrayed as a lonely and miserable creature who craves companionship and
ponders deep questions about the universe. This is observed by Grendel s conversation with the
dragon and his inner thoughts about the living world around him. The Danes paranoia of Grendel
isolates him from society. He lives in solitude with his mother who he cannot connect with on
anymore than a physical level. As the novel progresses, Grendel becomes attached to humanity and

Democracy And The United States Government
The United States Government is defined in many different ways. The most common that we hear are
the forms of democracy and republic. Although very similar, these are very loose terms when it comes
to categorizing our government. The respect for human rights and involvement of the nation s people
have been a main priority in the running of the government since the beginning. Unfortunately, over
time, we are seeing our freedoms and individual participation in the governments decisions slowly
declining in many aspects. This makes us question the government and our ultimates rights as citizens
that we currently have. The support we have for democracy is our support towards religious freedom,
worker rights, and also helps create a more stable and affluent system that manages our nation s
control and gives us the ability to have a bigger voices around the world.
In general, a democracy is a form of government that gives power to the people. There are various
forms that specify the amount of power and to whom it is admitted. A direct democracy is a form of
government in which the people decide policy matters directly (Mott 1), for example voting on ballot
referendums or attending town hall meetings. The people make the policies and complete decisions
based on majority rule. The nation s vast geography makes a direst democracy difficult. This term
often gets confused with a representative democracy, which is the United States form of government.

Analysis of The Pilgrim s Progress by John Bunyan
John Bunyan s The Pilgrim s Progress is an allegorical story about the Christian religion. It allegorizes
the journey of a Christian into the Celestial City, which represents heaven. Although Pilgrim s
Progress may seem simple and straightforward, there are many deeper meanings throughout the whole
story. Bunyan uses the names of his characters to signify whom the character represents in the story,
for example, the character Hopeful represents hopefulness, Help represents people who are willing to
help others in need of assistance, Faithful represents people who are faithful to whatever they are

Christian cries out for Faithful to stop and wait so they can be companions along their travel, but
Faithful replies, No, I am upon my life, and the avenger of blood is behind me (60). In the story, the
life he is trying to save is his real, tangible life. But his running away from the avenger of blood to
save his life actually symbolizes saving Faithful s spiritual life. Because he has sinned and broken the
Ten Commandment, You shall not kill, he is now being chased by death and if caught, he will kill
Faithful; this death characterizes the death of eternal life and therefore not being able to enter heaven
(Deuteronomy 5:17). In the bible there is a passage that talks about the avenger of blood and who is
he. This is the provision for the manslayer, who by fleeing there may save his life. If anyone kills his
neighbor unintentionally without having been at enmity with him in time past #8230;he may flee to
one of these cities and save his life; lest the avenger of blood in hot anger pursue the manslayer and
overtake him (Deuteronomy 19:4 6). Jesus Christ was born without sin, and never sinned throughout
his lifetime. Faithful, however, who although did not try to kill his neighbor, killed him
unintentionally and therefore, sinned. Jesus would never have caused pain to any living creatures,
neither accidentally nor deliberately. This is one example of how Faithful differs from Christ.

Dbq Robber Barons
From 1865 to 1900, a surge in industry and business began to come into effect. Railroads, oil, steel,
and various inventions enabled the rise of these businesses. As time went on, the leaders of the
businesses would become more eager to achieve wealth. Some historians have described these people
as robber barons or people who use extreme methods to control and maintain their wealth and power.
Others would chastise that belief, declaring that it is an unjust conclusion to draw. Despite the
oppositions fervent belief, the undeniable evidence supports the belief that many of the businessmen
in the late 19th century were robber barons . These men had a blatant disregard for human lives and an
unquenchable urge to assume control over citizens lives that instilled corruption and greed in them.
One of the most prominent bodies of proof is the lack of care for the worker s and the public s well
being. A businessman, William H. Vanderbilt, revealed his own morality when asked about his
motives for laying his railroads. A reporter from the Chicago Daily News asked Vanderbilt if he was
motivated by the benefit to the public. To which, Vanderbilt candidly responded, The public be
damned (...) I don t take any stock in this silly nonsense about working for anybody s good but our
own (Doc 1). Vanderbilt inadvertently revealed a significant truth about himself and his fellow
businessmen. Vanderbilt did not care about how his business (railroads) would affect the public. The

These relationships allow us to love and be loved. They bring a sense of security and lessen loneliness.
Without intimacy there is emotional isolation, and emotional isolation increases the risk of physical
and emotional disorder. Is the world a safe place or is it full of unpredictable events and accidents
waiting to happen? Erikson s first psychosocial crisis occurs during the first year or so of life (like
Freud s oral stage of psychosexual development). The crisis is one of trust vs. mistrust. During this
stage, the infant is uncertain about the world in which they live. To resolve these feelings of
uncertainty, the infant looks towards their primary caregiver for stability and consistency of care. If
the care the infant receives is consistent, predictable and reliable, they will develop a sense of trust
which will carry with them to other relationships, and they will be able to feel secure even when
threatened. Success in this stage will lead to the virtue of hope. By developing a sense of trust, the
infant can have hope that as new crises arise, there is a real possibility that other people will be there
as a source of support. Failing to acquire the virtue of hope will lead to the development of fear. For
example, if the care has been harsh or inconsistent, unpredictable and unreliable, then the infant will

Steve Jobs And The History Of Apple
Everyone knows about Steve Jobs and the history of Apple. Apple is a worldwide known business that
is arguably one of the most popular in the technology industry today. Things like the IPhone, IPod,

was one of the entrepreneurs that started apple and is the most widely known. Things did not always
look so pretty however. Steve Jobs was a good friend of Steve Wozniak. They joined together to create
a computer. They were inspired to build something all people could afford. In the article, History of

with what he had produced, although Jobs saw otherwise. The Woz we know now has a larger than life

the ability to what we see Apple is today. Although Apple does make many profits, it has succeeded in

Similarities Between Chris Mccandless And Thoreauer
Where I Lived, and Why I Chose the Wild
As a society, we all have obstacles that we face in our lives. A plethora of these headaches and
inconveniences result in a longing to flee to a deserted island. These issues leave us aching to indulge
in a mental getaway, be alone and forget about the mass amount of uncertainties in our life. Characters
Chris McCandless from Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer and Henry David Thoreau author of Where I
Lived and What I Lived for escape into the wilderness to be liberated from the irrelevant and
humdrum events taking place in their lives. Although both characters are similar in countless aspects,
they are specifically similar through their beliefs of idealism and transcendentalism. Even though the
two share common similarities, McCandless and Thoreau possess multiple distinct outlooks as well.
They two men left distinct legacies due to their beliefs and how they chose to carry out and fulfill their
beliefs.
First, let us familiarize ourselves with the term idealism . According to Merriam Webster Dictionary,
the term idealism is defined as: the practice of forming or pursuing ideals, especially unrealistically.
Considering the definition of idealism, it is apparent how the term corresponds with McCandless and
Thoreau. McCandless and Thoreau equally represent pursuing their ideals and explicitly in
McCandless case unrealistically.
Though McCandless was an educated man, McCandless was overtaken by the callings of nature. In

Pros And Cons Of The Middle Colonies
Although The Northern Colonies had a huge expansion of trade, parks, paved streets, diverse crops
and many more, The Middle Colonies are considered the best to live in because it had major
ports/trade, had religious diversity by 1775 and fertile land. Americans have often prided themselves
on their rich diversity and there was a lot. The middle colonies contained Native American tribes of
the Algonquian and Iroquoian language groups. The Middle Colonies had also a sizable percentage of
African slaves during the early years and unlike the New England Colonies, the middle colonies had
an assortment of religions. With Quakers, Presbyterians, Lutherans and Dutch Calvinists had made the
superiority of one faith close to impossible. English, Catholics and Enslaved Africans shared land and
some of the proprietors there believed in religious tolerance although some didn t care as long the
people paid for their land so there wasn t a problem. The Middle Colonies contained Pennsylvania,
New Jersey, Delaware and New York. Since they were between the Northern and Southern colonies,
the middle colonies were important and served as distribution centers in the English mercantile system
at that time. Some people were wealthy and worked in the city but most of the colonists were farmers.

The Impact Of Genes On A Person
The impact of genes on a person is a well known assumption among people who study genetics. When
you think about it, who we are and how we act is based off of our genetic makeup. Behavioral
genetics studies the inheritance of behavioral traits. There are some people who are just nice and
easygoing people while others behave in an unmoral way or are considered anti social. Behavior
genetics is that branch that is trying to figure out what factors play a part in how people act and what
genes lead to diverse array of behavior. Not only could genetic information be inherited by a person s
parent but how much of their behavior is also determined by the environment, such as their living
conditions, the people they surround themselves with, and other influences that may surround them.
Behavior genetics environmental factors can be separated into two categories, shared and nonshared.
Shared environment can be considered the environment that is shared by members in the same family,
which can include the same parents or socioeconomic class. Nonshared environment is the one that is
exclusive to an individual and incorporates their own peer group or hobbies not shared with family
members. When you read a lot about behavioral genetics there is a lot of talk about Nature vs.
Nurture, with genetics being the nature and the environment being nurture. Since I feel that a person s
behavior can be affected by both I can understand why this theory goes along with this topic. In order

Capital Punishment Essay
Getting Rid of the Death Penalty
Capital punishment was a corrective measure that was widely used all over the world. It is difficult to
pin point the exact date of it s origin but it is a fact that it was practiced intensely during medieval
times. Crimes have occurred probably since the beginning of time and therefore there was a need for a
counter attack to minimize if not eradicate it completely. Laws were created for this purpose, but like
everything man creates they have proved imperfect and in some cases entirely unacceptable.
In Britain, as James B Christoph[1] points out, the major cause for this trend was the social and
economic chaos brought about by the Industrial Revolution. The spread of poverty as well as child ...

Several variations occurred in different countries, for example in Denmark, it was more honorable to
be executed by the sword than by the axe. In Sweden, beheading was carried out by axe, and in the
case of a woman, after the execution, her body was cremated.
The guillotine, is thought to have been created shortly before the French Revolution.2[3] It consisted
of two huge uprights between which a hatchet was placed, and erected on a platform reached by
taking 24 steps up. The doomed was tied to a plank, kneeling down, exposing his head. A cord
attached to the huge hatchet suspended it and when the time came, all the executioner had to do was
cut the cord. Due to its impressive nature, the Constituent Assembly in France decreed that everyone
condemned to death would be executed by this method. Once again, these forms of punishment prove
too severe for any conceivable crime.
In present day society, with the introduction of human right for all, such a form of punishment is
considered disturbing and so it should. This chapter in human history should not be forgotten though,
because many people are still emotionally scarred for life be it friends or family of the unfortunate
sufferers of this act. Instead, it should be known by all and past on to future generations so that even in
the worst of times, such an act should never manifest itself in anyone who has the power to introduce
it back into

Strand At Lough Beg And Mametz Wood
Poets are the record keepers and moral consciences of their times. In response to this view, explore
connections between the ways in which Heaney and Sheers write about memories.
As poets are known to be record keepers memories are a key theme that poets often write about due to
it being a theme with such a wide range. Heaney and Sheers have both written poems about memories.
The two poems that i have chosen to focus on for this essay are Mametz Wood by Owen Sheers and
The Strand at Lough Beg by Seamus Heaney. Both of these poems talk about the memories of death
so they will no doubt share the same themes and ideas throughout. In the poem Mametz Wood by
Owen Sheers we can see that the title of the poem is the name of a place. Mametz Wood is known as
the place where the Battle of the Somme took place in July 1916. This gives us the connotation that
the poem will have themes of war and death throughout. The use of the place name makes people see
that this was a real event that took place. The use of the place name also ... Show more content on

These suggest to me again the idea that death and the fear of death slow everything down and heighten
things around you. These are all things that Colum would have been experiencing in that moment, the
terrifying imagery and sound paint us a picture of the fear that would have coursed through his veins
at that moment. However there is a difference between Sheers and Heaney s poems here, as the
soldiers were together and although they were going into something horrific they were set out to do
that and had a team with them. Colum on the other hand was isolated and had no expectations of being
shot at let alone killed. A key link between these two poems is that both Colum and the soldiers were

Common Themes in Speeches by Passionate Leaders
An effective and enthralling speech does not only relate to the content or context, but to the
appropriate utilisation of rhetorical techniques and structure that contest universal requisite ideas, past,
present and future that captivate and engage audiences. Since the beginning of time, society has been
presented with inspirational and passionate leaders who deliver speeches that remain invaluable due to
their themes regarding peace, security, prejudice, equality and basic human rights. These themes are
explored in Anwar Sadat s, Aung San Suu Kyi and Faith Bandlers unique speeches Statement to the
Knesset (1977), Keynote Address at the Beijing World Conference on Women (1995) and Hope, Faith
and Reconciliation (1999) which allow the memory of the past and a reminder of who we are today.
Continuous battles and terrorism between Israel and Egypt had been occurring four years preceding to
Anwar Sadat s Statement to the Knesset (1977). Anwar Sadat, the Prime Minister of Egypt, address to
the Israeli Knesset was presented to an audience which involved both parties and persons who
supported and resented him. Sadat draws upon religious, political and personal values to motivate and
propose to the Israeli Knesset a solution for peace to the extremity of an age long conflict between the
Egypt and Israel.
Beginning his speech, Sadat employs the use of religious allusions and pathos in order to set the
foundations of his argument to bring unity to both countries through the

  • 2. Gonzales Vs Carhart Summary Gonzales v. Carhart was a supreme court case that was arguing on whether there should be partial birth abortion. I do not agree with abortion anyway, let alone partial birth. The two main people involved in the case, were Alberto R. Gonzales and Leroy Carhart. Gonzales was the petitioner who brought the case to the court and Carhart was the respondent. Gonzales wanted to overturn the Partial Birth Abortion Act, which was basically an act saying partial birth abortion is not allowed. Gonzales proposed a ruling of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit in favor of LeRoy Carhart that was attempting to tackle the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act. On the other side was Carhart, who was against partial birth abortion and wanted the act to stand. Carharts perspective in my opinion is the right one. I do understand that there are, some cases that abortion might be necessary and that might protect someone s own health. If it is protecting the mother s health and it is the last choice the mother has then I will support her decision. But for the most part it is just teen getting pregnant from unprotected sex then not being able to care for the child. In the USA alone there are 2 million couples waiting to adopt. In 2011 1.06 million abortions took place. In just two years we could give children to all of the couples ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Android Phones versus iPhones There is a running joke in the geeky realm of our society that says there are two types of people in the world, those who use iPhones and those who use Androids. Most of the time, people either love or hate either gadget, there isn t much room to have mediocre feelings towards these devices. They are both amazing handheld devices, which perform a multitude of tasks. They guide us, entertain us, teach us, organize us, the list can go on and on. The Android and iPhone are two very comparative devices that many of us use on a daily basis. Although they have very similar functions and features, the two are quite different in how they operate, and what permissions they allow the user to have. First, I would like to explain to you what an operating system is. I will be using the term, operating system, throughout this essay and many people do not have a clear understanding of what it is. Simply put, an operating system is the brain of any computer or electronic device. The operating system is a bundle of information that directs all the operations that a computer does in order to function properly. The operating system sends information to and from communication resources of applications that you use or your device uses. When the geniuses of Silicon Valley were discovering how to create a system that would allow for multiple applications to be used, they gave birth to the operating system. This very basic system was called Linux. Linux is the most fundamental base of an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Symbolism In Revelations ... In the days of their prophecy: [they will] have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will. (Rev. 11:6). This connection between blood and the beginning of the plague are a key theme throughout Revelations, and have continued in modern literature through zombieism and AIDS. Although the End is usually spoken about within the idea of naturalistic destruction on Earth, the End may be more human than that and come unexpectedly from humanity itself: They are frightening for the very reason that they do not look like our enemies at all... they look disturbingly like our co workers, neighbours, friends and families (Dendle 50); they being the key term. This directly connects to AIDS and the idea of the general population , which can be explained as not just whites but heterosexuals (Sontag 67). Long goes into detail of why this is, explaining that homosexuality itself [had already been made out to be] a contagious disease; an apocalyptic signifier, a sign of end times , (2) so when the epidemic of AIDS hit, the general population believed that it was punishment for not living God s way , and further emphasized their other ness by mentioning its spread in South Africa. • 5. Puberty Rites Of Passage In many cultures around the world, ceremonies are held or rituals are undergone to mark the passage of adolescents into adulthood. These are known as rites of passage. Rites of passage, is a term first coined by Arnold Van Gennep in 1909 to describe the universal transition of adolescents by maturational progression, a phenomenon that is cross cultural (Gibson, 2007). Indeed, the term puberty rites and rite of passage can be used interchangeably. Because puberty is an experience all humans have, the rite of passage may reflect cultural evolution as co occurring with bodily changes (Weisfeld ,1997, as cited by Gibson, 2007). Rites of passage can also signify changes of status in other stages of life, and these transitions seem to be demarcated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is theorized that the adolescent rite of passage has lost its importance because of a change in focus from communal concerns to individuality, or exposure to varied belief systems (Gibson, 2007). Some youth, who lack the completion of these semblances of rites, create their own through activities such as the use of substances, body modification, or gang initiation (Sande, 2002; Vigil, 1996; Wall, n.d., as cited by Gibson, 2007). A possible reason for the fading of formal rites, is a societal move away from the importance of sexual maturity for reproduction reasons to a society that instead imbues status for financial and vocational gains (Gibson, ... • 6. The United States General Election Essay While the 2016 United States general election has been in itself special with regards to the deep division among the electorate and lack of favorability of the two frontrunners for the presidency, it still has the unique American system of being dominated by two major political parties; Republicans and Democrats. Over time these political parties have experienced massive changes but in modern America they have crafted very unique identities. With regards to social issues such as abortion rights and treatment of minority groups and economic issues such as fiscal spending, income taxes and welfare, Republicans in general have been characterized as mainly conservative, tax averse and against government entitlements while Democrats have been generally characterized as mainly liberal on these same issues. Altogether political affiliations to either the right or the left can be categorized based on their preference for stability. Liberals are generally seen as being more adaptable to a changing environment for example in the case for LGBTQ rights where the changing environment has generally led them to be more acceptable while conservatives are more likely to be less open, sticking to what they consider traditional values. These attributes have for a long time been seen to be largely determined by the political atmosphere in an individuals environment but growing research has shown that these characteristics have a significant association with human genetics. The major drawback of this approach, however, is that scanning network traffic running on all ports dramatically increases the processing load on the IDS, which easily leads to an underpowered system dropping packets and missing potential attacks. This approach will not be viable on a low powered single board computer as we intend to use. However, both IDS approaches do some form of protocol parsing to give to the analysts the ability to finely control what they want to search for when examining a given protocol. Bro IDS includes a facility to perform signature based detection and a tool called snort2bro that converts Snort signatures to Bro IDS signatures. Same, Snort IDS signatures can be written to search for anomalous traffic on a given network. However, this capability is limited by which stream based interpreter the signature system can understand when finding anomalous traffic. Both Snort and Bro also contain mechanisms to deal with multistage attacks. Snort s detection in this area is primarily stream oriented: through the use of its flow bits keyword, Snort can tag a given TCP stream or even a UDP pseudo stream (an active UDP conversation as having had part of the components necessary for a successful attack without actually generating an alert). In such a case, a second or third rule then becomes active on the stream in question, which generates an alert only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In his plays, starting with Agamemnon, the Achaeans slowly emerge and evolve from an older, more primitive autocratic form of justice, to a new concept of justice devised by Athena. The trilogy culminates in hung jury trial, and eventually Orestes absolution. The jury trial at the end of The Furies implies that justice is arbitrary, must include deliberation, and is more than an eye for an eye. People may not think so much about personal computers because today s generation is all about smart phones now. I understand that people can have their own personal opinion and may disagree with what I m saying, but my opinion is that personal computers are better. Computer actually need access to Wi Fi in order to do anything. I believe computer are better because if you have no Wi Fi then you can t access your social media and wouldn t be distracted. You also won t be distracting while driving because you won t have Wi Fi and it is actually safer because you can pay more attention to driving than being on social media. Computers also don t receive text messages nor phone calls, which is a good thing. Although very similar, these are very loose terms when it comes to categorizing our government. The respect for human rights and involvement of the nation s people have been a main priority in the running of the government since the beginning. Unfortunately, over time, we are seeing our freedoms and individual participation in the governments decisions slowly declining in many aspects. Analysis of The Pilgrim s Progress by John Bunyan Essay Analysis of The Pilgrim s Progress by John Bunyan John Bunyan s The Pilgrim s Progress is an allegorical story about the Christian religion. It allegorizes the journey of a Christian into the Celestial City, which represents heaven. Although Pilgrim s Progress may seem simple and straightforward, there are many deeper meanings throughout the whole story. Bunyan uses the names of his characters to signify whom the character represents in the story, for example, the character Hopeful represents hopefulness, Help represents people who are willing to help others in need of assistance, Faithful represents people who are faithful to whatever they are associated with, and the main character, Christian, represents all young ... Christian cries out for Faithful to stop and wait so they can be companions along their travel, but Faithful replies, No, I am upon my life, and the avenger of blood is behind me (60). In the story, the life he is trying to save is his real, tangible life. But his running away from the avenger of blood to save his life actually symbolizes saving Faithful s spiritual life. Because he has sinned and broken the Ten Commandment, You shall not kill, he is now being chased by death and if caught, he will kill Faithful; this death characterizes the death of eternal life and therefore not being able to enter heaven (Deuteronomy 5:17). In the bible there is a passage that talks about the avenger of blood and who is he. This is the provision for the manslayer, who by fleeing there may save his life. If anyone kills his neighbor unintentionally without having been at enmity with him in time past #8230;he may flee to one of these cities and save his life; lest the avenger of blood in hot anger pursue the manslayer and overtake him (Deuteronomy 19:4 6). Jesus Christ was born without sin, and never sinned throughout his lifetime. Faithful, however, who although did not try to kill his neighbor, killed him unintentionally and therefore, sinned. Jesus would never have caused pain to any living creatures, neither accidentally nor deliberately. This is one example of how Faithful differs from Christ. Faith is a large part in a ... Junior s Caucasian identity overpowers his Indian identity because Caucasians in general are more privileged and are smarter than the kids at Junior s old school, Welpinit. Based off many aspects of Junior s conditions and ethnic background, other people and Junior have expectations of what his future will look like. An internal expectation that Junior has of himself is that he will follow the continuing cycle of his family. As time went on, the leaders of the businesses would become more eager to achieve wealth. Some historians have described these people as robber barons or people who use extreme methods to control and maintain their wealth and power. Others would chastise that belief, declaring that it is an unjust conclusion to draw. Despite the oppositions fervent belief, the undeniable evidence supports the belief that many of the businessmen in the late 19th century were robber barons . These men had a blatant disregard for human lives and an unquenchable urge to assume control over citizens lives that instilled corruption and greed in them. One of the most prominent bodies of proof is the lack of care for the worker s and the public s well being. A businessman, William H. Vanderbilt, revealed his own morality when asked about his motives for laying his railroads. A reporter from the Chicago Daily News asked Vanderbilt if he was motivated by the benefit to the public. To which, Vanderbilt candidly responded, The public be damned (...) I don t take any stock in this silly nonsense about working for anybody s good but our own (Doc 1). If the care the infant receives is consistent, predictable and reliable, they will develop a sense of trust which will carry with them to other relationships, and they will be able to feel secure even when threatened. When you think about it, who we are and how we act is based off of our genetic makeup. Behavioral genetics studies the inheritance of behavioral traits. There are some people who are just nice and easygoing people while others behave in an unmoral way or are considered anti social. Behavior genetics is that branch that is trying to figure out what factors play a part in how people act and what genes lead to diverse array of behavior. Not only could genetic information be inherited by a person s parent but how much of their behavior is also determined by the environment, such as their living conditions, the people they surround themselves with, and other influences that may surround them. Behavior genetics environmental factors can be separated into two categories, shared and nonshared. Shared environment can be considered the environment that is shared by members in the same family, which can include the same parents or socioeconomic class. Laws were created for this purpose, but like everything man creates they have proved imperfect and in some cases entirely unacceptable. In Sweden, beheading was carried out by axe, and in the case of a woman, after the execution, her body was cremated. The guillotine, is thought to have been created shortly before the French Revolution.2[3] It consisted of two huge uprights between which a hatchet was placed, and erected on a platform reached by taking 24 steps up. The doomed was tied to a plank, kneeling down, exposing his head. A cord attached to the huge hatchet suspended it and when the time came, all the executioner had to do was cut the cord. Due to its impressive nature, the Constituent Assembly in France decreed that everyone condemned to death would be executed by this method. Once again, these forms of punishment prove too severe for any conceivable crime. In present day society, with the introduction of human right for all, such a form of punishment is considered disturbing and so it should. The two poems that i have chosen to focus on for this essay are Mametz Wood by Owen Sheers and The Strand at Lough Beg by Seamus Heaney. Both of these poems talk about the memories of death so they will no doubt share the same themes and ideas throughout. In the poem Mametz Wood by Owen Sheers we can see that the title of the poem is the name of a place. Mametz Wood is known as the place where the Battle of the Somme took place in July 1916.
