The World Is Becoming More And More Transparent Day By Day...
The world is becoming more and more transparent day by day through globalization since people have
begun to shift their perspective, and change their way of thinking and behave accordingly. Everyone is
spectating different types of cultures and the religions that other people follow across the globe, along
with the mix technological advancements which will ultimately shape what people believe it to be
normal or abnormal. Therefore, with the integration of what seems to be normal in today s world can
be in fact abnormal a 100 years from now, and vice versa. Michael Warner illustrates in his writing,
The Trouble with Normal that, People didn t sweat much over being normal until the spread of
statistics in the nineteenth century. Now they are surrounded by numbers that tell them what normal is:
census figures, market demographics, opinion polls, social science studies, psychological surveys,
clinical tests, sales figures, trends, the mainstream, the current generation, the common man, the man
on the street, the heartland of America etcetera. (Warner, p.53). These are many of the few statistical
perspectives that have taken great leaps through technological advancements and globalization.
Similarly, we get to learn more about the human behavior through cultural and evolutionary
perspectives. These methods can help guide the behavior of normality and abnormality throughout
time. It seems pretty obvious from today s world that the mass migration towards the urban areas

Baseball Problems
There s a problem coursing through baseball, and it goes well beyond Philadelphia Phillies manager
Gabe Kapler choosing which reliever to use by throwing a dart.
Attendance for Major League Baseball games is down 6.6 percent from this time last year, forecasting
the third straight season of decline. While the popular excuse is to blame the downturn on early season
washouts, Commissioner Rob Manfred recently told The Wall Street Journal he is concerned that there
s something to it more than weather.
In Philadelphia, attendance is actually up about three percent from 2017 to 24,855 per game. But
considering the Phils are currently 15 games improved over their 22 47 record a year ago, this is no
cause for smug satisfaction.
Manfred is correct, of course. The national pastime has systemic ... Show more content on

Three problems that I see, actually:
1. The sport has become too expensive While attending a Major League Baseball game remains
cheaper than watching other sports, it has moved out of the range where heading to the park can be an
impulse buy.
The average Phillies ticket this season costs $36, according to the data tracking company Statista.
While this is actually cheaper than last year, it still means that including parking, a few snacks, and a
souvenir a family of four s visit to the ballpark will be a $250 hit.
2. Baseball lacks identifiable superstars The NBA has LeBron James, Steph Curry, and many others
recognized just by their first name. The NFL has at least six quarterbacks famous to the world.
Baseball has . . . uhh.
Yes, Mike Trout is an amazing player. Clayton Kershaw and Max Scherzer may be all time greats.
But, alas, none has any kind of national or international standing. A recent ESPN study of the 100
most famous athletes in the world included zero baseball players.
We can fairly blame poor marketing, but the sport sorely needs players with the magnetic personalities
of Ken Griffey, Jr., Randy Johnson, and Big

Small Complex Financial Institutions Found Themselves Of...

Mark Sniderman, Ph.D.

8th Nov 2014
Short Paper #3
Many large complex financial institutions found themselves of liquidity at the beginning of the crisis
and as it progressed. I think they were surprised. The trigger for the liquidity crisis was an increase in
subprime mortgage defaults, which was first noted in February 2007. The bank centered nature of the
crisis made it harder than in the past for banks to attract deposits and provide liquidity to borrowers
shut out of securities markets.
Banks may not be able to provide liquidity in a financial crisis. The reason for this is that a bank
centered crisis may lead investors to concern about the safety of bank deposits, even with deposit
insurance. Therefore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, AIG has been increasingly active in the credit derivatives business, including credit
default swaps. AIG s stock price fell more than 90 percent, capping off a large decline from the
previous days in September 16, 2008. The AIG bailout was extended by a further 37 million in
October and another 40 billion in November.
An originate to distribute model of lending, where the originator of a loan sells it to various third
parties, was a popular method of mortgage lending before the onset of the subprime mortgage crisis.
This originate to distribute model had advantages over the old originate to hold model, where a bank
originated a loan to the borrower and retained the credit risk. People believe that originate to distribute
model of banking played a key role in the development of the financial crisis because instead of
holding loans on banks balance sheets, banks moved to an originate and distribute model. Banks
repackaged loans and passed them on to various other financial investors, thereby off loading risk.
Next, banks increasingly financed their asset holdings with shorter maturity instruments. This change
left banks particularly exposed to a dry up in funding liquidity.
However, Gary Gorton has a different perspective. He believes that originate to distribute model
claims that securitizations should not end up on bank balance sheets. There is no basis for his idea. In
fact, there is an important

Euthanasia And Physician Assisted Suicide Essay
Euthanasia and physician assisted suicide are both types of medical assistance aiding in ending a
suffering patient s life. This pain may be due to a terminal illness and suffering as well as those in an
irreversible coma. This practice of doctor assisted suicide is illegal in many countries, but is increasing
in popularity as people start to recognize the positive aspects that euthanasia has to offer for those that
fit the criteria. Euthanasia is essential for those, placed in such life diminishing situations, and whom
no longer want to experience suffering. This is where the issue gets complicated, and many religious
groups argue that individuals should not have the legal right to choose whether they get to die or not,
but that it is simply in God s hands. Suffering patients argue that they should be given the right to
choose whether or not they have to experience this suffering, to end their life with the dignity they still
have, and to alleviate the stress that their deteriorating life conditions have on their families,
themselves and the entire healthcare system. Therefore, despite the many arguments, euthanasia can
have a very positive impact on the lives and families of suffering individuals, as well as the Canadian
healthcare system.
To kill an individual or simply let someone die who meets the criteria of a sick patient are deemed
very two different things. Killing someone who does not wish to die goes against our basic human law
of life. Killing of intent defies

Essay on The Evolution of the Image of Women in Sports
The Evolution of the Image of Women in Sports
1. Through the readings, films, and discussions, we have looked at the image of women in sport.
Discuss the images of women in sport and how they are affected by today s cultural ideal of women.
All of the films that we watched provided different perspectives on how the image of women is
situated in our culture. From the first movie, Dare to Compete, which highlighted the development of
women s participation in sports, to Love and Basketball, which fully accepts women s participation in
sports, we examined a range of views and opinions on the proper role of women in sports.
Dare to Compete presented images of women in sports over many years, highlighting the evolution of

The women in Bend it Like Beckham had to deal with cultural stereotypes against women in sport.
Jess mother had strictly confined ideas of how a woman should look. She did not approve of Jess
playing soccer, but if she did it was important for her to keep her legs covered. The issue that comes
up repeatedly in this movie is the popular notion that women will not be perceived as women if they
are sporty . Jess mother is afraid that men will not be interested in her because of her athleticism and
Jules mother blames her daughter s lack of a boyfriend on her participation in the soccer team.
Although the two mothers represent different cultures, both of their cultures state that female athletes
are not feminine or desirable. They are certainly not normal. I think one of the important distinctions
in this film is that, while there are certainly many who uphold that belief, there are many others who
see and appreciate female athletes. Even Jess father come to appreciate her athleticism by the end of
the film.
An important moment in the film occurs when Jules mother mistakenly believes that Jules is a lesbian.
Although this is humorous in the film, it shows that the image of female athletes is still equated with
the image of homosexuals. I think this once again is rooted in the misguided belief that no one in
mainstream society would find a female athlete desirable.
In Girlfight, the protagonist, Diana, seems to be determined to fight

The Character Analysis Of Shameless As A Dramatic Comedy
Have you ever wanted to watch a dramatic comedy, but could never find the one ? I would highly
recommend Shameless for anyone one who is having trouble finding the one . There are many
television shows that can keep anyone entertained, but Shameless has all the right factors that are
needed to be a great dramatic comedy. Shameless is a good dramatic comedy because the characters
and situations are relatable to real life, the TV show has moral teachings, and it s very suspenseful.
One of the things that makes Shameless such a great dramatic comedy is how the characters and
situations are so relatable to real life. It s important for a TV show to make the audience feel like they
re connected to the characters as they deal with their situations in each episode. There is evidence in
every season that shows the relativity between the characters and real life situations. For example, in
season 6, episode 1; Frank is currently dealing with losing a loved one, while both daughters, Fiona
and Debbie are making decisions about their pregnancy. Fiona begs for her little sister to do adoption
or abortion. Debbie doesn t quite understand how Knue 2 having a child while being fourteen, can ruin
a lot of great opportunities later. Fiona chooses to have an abortion since she cannot make enough
money to support herself or all her siblings. In addition to relatable characters and situations,
Shameless also offers moral teachings. How does a dramatic comedy offer moral teachings?
Shameless provides many examples on how drug and alcohol abuse affects a family home. There is
also evidence on how Shameless provides that. In season 4, episode 5; Fiona celebrates something
good that has happened, but not in a correct way. She decides to buy drugs, and leave them out where
her little brother, Liam, can get his hands on causing him to overdose. Fiona then faces the
consequences on the abuse of drugs, and the toll it can have on a family. Another prime example
would be in season 3, episode 7; Fiona fights for her rights to become legal guardian over her younger
siblings after being taken away from

What Is The Theme Of The Bra Boys Movie
1. In the documentary Bra Boys the Abberton borthers, Sunny, Koby and Jai were the main laders of
the brotherhood. Sunny in particular, was the head leader of the brotherhood and was the fimlamker of
the documentary. The Bra Boys were portrayed as misunderstood heros, show as both the protagonist
and the antagonist. Abberton wanted to show the audience that they helped the community and did
good things for them. They were portrayed as the protagonist by the surfing community as they looked
up to the Abberton brothers. To the broader community they were presented as the antagonist, this is
because the they believed that they were a risk to the community as they were involved in crimes,
murders and they were seen in the newspaper for fighting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Music was akey technique used by Sonny Abberton to show that the group members were tough and
that nothing could separate them. They did this by using heavy metal music when the surfing scenes
were intense. In one particular scene, Jai s court case, they used sad music (piano and violin) during
the verdict to make us feel sad as we thought it was a negative outcome and to lead us to believe that
the verdict was going to be negative. They then used happy music to inform us that the verdict was a
positive outcome and made us feel cheerful. An other scene where they used the technique of sad
music (1:07:54, La Mar, Beautiful Girls) was Ma s funeral, it was used to make the audience feel sorry
for the Abberton borthers and upset. An additional film technique is how Sunny Abberton decided to
film the documentary. The shots included close ups for example, in the car on the way to Koby s court
hearing they used this technique to make us feel as though we were there in the car too, and we were
feeling the emotions he was feeling. Hand held shots were also used quite frequently. The hand held
shots were there to provide us with primary sources of information. Abberton wanted the audience to
see fisrt hand the facts of the court case and for the audience to make up their own

Rukmani s Nectar In A Sieve Entry
Nectar in a Sieve Entry One night, Rukmani heard soft footsteps, and thought it was Kunthi coming to
rob them of what little they had, unashamed of her previous actions. Rukmani went outside, and threw
herself at the figure she saw. She beat it to the ground, overcome with rage, as the figure struggled
weakly. Then Rukmani was pulled off the figure, and Nathan scolded her for beating her own
daughter. I think Kunthi s previous actions had angered Rukmani so much, that she was blinded by
rage at the very suspicion of the figure being Kunthi stealthily walking to their house to steal whatever
food they had left. She did not consider for a moment that the figure could have been someone else.
The figure had been Ira, who was cut badly, with wounds

Limu Kohu Research Paper
Asparagopsis taxiformis or limu kohu is a highly valued m¬¬arine red alga found in Hawaiʻi; it
normally grows on reef edges in areas of constant water motion. It was so prized by the Hawaiians for
its peppery flavor that only ali`i (Hawaiian royalty) were allowed to eat it (Abbott 1984; Bolton et al.
2011). It is still considered a favorite and can fetch up to $30 a pound at some markets. The economic
value of limu kohu has made it vulnerable to overharvesting in Hawaii s coastlines. However, the alga
is found throughout the world in tropical marine environments and is regarded as an invasive species
in the Mediterranean and South Africa (Andreakis et al. 2007; Zanolla et al. 2018). The chemistry of

Pompey the Great
While it is clear that Pompey the Great was a successful general, how he came to be so is a more
complicated matter. To analyse Pompey s career this essay will first examine his background,
highlighting the advantages and difficulties that arose from being from a fairly new noble family.
Additionally key events in Pompey s career will be explored chronologically, focusing on his most
important military successes as well as his political career. This will attempt to determine how much
his success relied on his personal characteristics or because of his he was able achieve his successes
due to his personal attributes or because of his political relations with noblemen such as Sulla, Caesar
and Cicero.

military success, which he took full advantage of, gaining a good reputation from the start of his
career.
Sulla reinforced this reputation for Pompey, giving him the cognomen ‘magnus meaning ‘the Great .
By this time the young Pompey was wildly popular in Rome and asked for a triumph in 81BC. Sulla
told Pompey he did not qualify, as he had not even held office in Rome. Pompey is famed for telling
Sulla that more people worshipped the rising than the setting sun, to which Sulla was surprised at his
boldness. Sulla eventually allowed him a triumph. Pompey s career was able to advance prematurely
and this triumph allowed him to increase his image as a young conqueror, much like Alexander the

A Comparison Of Patrice Lumumba s Assassination
Despite what some people may believe, assassination is not synonymous with murder. Sure, both are
similar, but they are also very different. For instance, assassination is the act of killing an important
person for political reasons while murder is the killing of an average person for any reason. Also,
assassination has only happened to important political figures, such as Abraham Lincoln, Martin
Luther King Jr, and John F. Kennedy. Another important person who was assassinated was Patrice
Lumumba. He was an important historical figure who was possibly either killed by troops who were
loyal to Colonel Mobutu or the CIA. Born in the small village of Onalua in Kasai province on July 2,
1925, Patrice Hemery Lumumba was a great man who accomplished great things. He fought for ...

Because Lumumba made the decision to raise the pay of all government employees except for the

nationwide panic. For political reasons, Lumumba had to seek help from the Soviet, which alarmed
several countries and made them think that he was a communist. Because of this, he was in deep
trouble. Around September, 1961, Lumumba was dismissed from the government by President Kasa
Vubu. Furious, he retaliated by declaring the president deposed. As to be expected, this did not go well
with Colonel Joseph Mobutu, and so on the 14th of September, the colonel incapacitated both
Lumumba and Kasa Vubu. Despite being put under house arrest, Lumumba snuck out to Stanleyville
but was caught by Colonel Joseph Mobutu s troops. Then, around January, after being beaten

authorities that killed him because of his involvements with the Soviet

The Issue About The Connection And Complications Of A...
The controversy issue about the connection and complications of a relationship has been in circulation
for ages. The formula for a good marriage is highly in demand, and the failure of a marriage begins to
point fingers at either side. The 50% divorce rate in America is all too high, which begins to raise
questions, who and what is at fault to the failure of these marriages. Is it the neglect between a
husband and wife, the miscommunication, or ones high expectation of their significant other? Many
problems arise in a marriage, women tend to complain men do not fulfill their duty as a husband by
not communicating, and men feel as if they truly do undertake this need. This thus creates problems
and miscommunication of expectations of either husband or wife. Nevertheless of the complications
that ascend, the fundamental aspect of a marriage is corporative communication between two partners
and understanding each other s needs and establishing a compromise. Although in Sex, Lies, and
Conversation, Tannen declares there is a pervasive imbalance of expectations of communications
between men and women, which leads to many causalities of marriage, Brady, in I Want a Wife,
implies men outrages expectation of women are the foremost motive for the failure of relationships.

My Best Friend Essay
I was always scared. My heart would pound and I never prepared for the worse, yet it always came to
that. I was only a little girl, and I didn t deserve this at all, but I still let her walk all over me.
Everytime she said or did something that hurt me, I tried even harder to impress her with different and
exciting ways, instead of standing up for myself. This was my life around my best friend, until
recently. I m getting ahead of myself, so let me rewind a little bit. Around age three I met this amazing
girl. She was someone who I instantly became best friends with. Someone who I didn t have to try
around because we didn t judge each other. Let s call this girl Erica. Erica and I never separated for
anything. We would hang out everyday after school and even danced together at the same studio. I
thought she was someone who would stick with me forever growing up, but unfortunately I was
wrong. First of all, Erica and I grew up together and hung out ninety percent of the time. I was so
attached to this girl, that I couldn t see the true person she really was. And I didn t realize till now that
I didn t even love hanging out with her, I loved the fact that I had such a cool and popular best friend.
I was mostly unhappy hanging out with Erica, and I never knew what kind of mood she would be in.
Unfortunately, she would almost brainwash me into thinking that I needed her, no matter what she did
to me. After a while, I believed her and set aside my feelings to help with hers.

The Murder And Robbery Of A Shoe Factory
In 1920, during the height of the Red Scare, a shoemaker, Nicola Sacco (1891 1927), and a fish
peddler, Bartolomeo Vanzetti (1888 1927), were accused of robbing and murdering the paymaster and
guard of a shoe company in South Braintree, Massachusetts. Known as anarchists and draft evaders,
the accused men faced a hostile judge and a public convinced of their guilt. Despite Sacco s
corroborated testimony that he was at the Italian consulate in Boston at the time of the murder, the two
were found guilty on the basis of witness identification and their suspicious behavior after the murder,
and were sentenced to death by Judge Webster Thayer. The trial of two Italian immigrants, Nicola
Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti, grasped the entire nation. Both men were accused of murder and
robbery of a shoe factory in Braintree, Massachusetts. They were both sentenced to death for the
robbery and murder even though there was insufficient evidence. Many people strongly disagreed with
the verdict as they believed the men were innocent and were prosecuted because of their politics.
On April 15th, 1920, in South Braintree, Massachusetts after a paymaster and a security guard who
were carrying $15,000 for a shoe company were shot and killed in cold blood by two men in a car.

To The Memory Of Some I Knew Who Are Dead And Who Loved...
The Easter Rising of 1916 occurred in Ireland in the midst of World War One, and the two events are
closely entwined. Many Irish people initially struggled to reconcile the politics of Irish nationalism
with Irish contributions to World War One. George Russell was one of the first to attempt to offer an
equal commemoration of both events. In 1917, Russell published his poem To the Memory of Some I
Knew Who are Dead and Who Loved Ireland in the Irish Times. This poem was a revised version of
Salutation, which Russell had written to commemorate the rebels of the Easter Rebellion. In the
revised version, Russell interspersed each stanza about the rebels with stanzas about Irish soldiers.
Russell unites these two great losses and their ideologies. He reveals the shared struggle in the trauma
of both events, forming the foundation for a collective memory and shared Irish identity. To the

Heat Wave Environments
Increased temperature has become one of the most visible environmental concerns of the 21st Century.
Recent research shows that the overall risk of heat related illness or death has climbed steadily since
1980, with around 30% of the world s population now living in climatic conditions that deliver
extreme hot temperatures persisting several days to weeks a year (Mora et al. 2017). Between 2000
and 2016, the number of vulnerable people exposed to heat wave events has increased by
approximately 125 million (Watts et al. 2017). In Africa, the average annual temperature has been
rising steadily. During the 20th century, the continent has appeared with increasing of temperature by
about 0.50C (Eriksen et al., 2008). IPCC (2007) reported that ... Show more content on

Outdoor workers are exposed to two forms of heat stress, which includes internal metabol¬ic (body)
heat generated by exertion (hard physical labour) and environ¬mental heat arising from work¬ing
conditions. When the body becomes overheated, a condition of heat stress exists. Heat stress can lead
to a number of heat related illness such as heat exhaustion, heat stroke, heat cramps, fainting, or heat
rash ( CDC, 2017 OSHA , 2017). When working condition is extremely hot the body temperature
regulation system breaks down and body temperature rises rapidly causing heat stroke and death
(Jennifer et al., 2009). Occupational heat stress risk is projected to become particularly high in middle
and low income tropical and subtropical regions, where optimal controls may not be readily available
(June and Perry, 2014). With a warming climate and more frequent extreme weather events predicted,
heat exposure and heat stress are becoming a prominent employee safety issue. According to
Occupational Health and Safety Act, 2000 the employer has a legal obligation to ensure the health,
safety, and welfare at work of all employees including preventing or decreasing heat stress. The
combined heat stress, physical exertion, and recurrent dehydration seem the most plausible origins of
the chronic kidney disease (CKD) etiology. A CKD epidemic in Central America (Mesoamerican
nephropathy) has killed over 20,000 people since 1990. Outdoor workers, in

Analysis Of Theseus And The Minotaur
A hero is universally seen as a selfless individual who puts the needs of other before themselves.
Heroes usually hold the same values; honor, nobility, integrity, and strength. Now what happens when
a person does not hold those heroic values? What if their motivations did not have good intentions?
These are the questions that will be answered using the deconstruction critical lenses. The Greek myth
of Theseus and the Minotaur has evolved into the modern trilogy of Batman which, when
deconstructed, reveals how the selfish motivations of these supposed heroes can be perceived as
heroic under the right circumstances.
In the Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur the young Athenian prince Theseus sets out on a hero
s journey to conquer the minotaur and gain fame. On Theseus s journey he encounters multiple
obstacles, which he overcomes with the help of different companions he meets along the way. The
young Theseus beings his journey emanating the values of a hero which during the Greek era were:
honor, nobility, integrity, and strength but as time passes he slowly begins to lose those values until
finally these qualities are replaced with arrogance. Before Theseus made his trek to slay the minotaur
he was already known as a hero, as he had made the trip to Athens from his mother s home in southern
Greece on foot. The journey on foot itself is not too harsh, what is harsh are the obstacles one faces
along the way. One such obstacle were bandits, the young Theseus had no qualms

Security Guards are Overworked and Underpaid.
Security Guards are Overworked and Underpaid. Security guards are essential in almost every
business; but in government facilities they provide a crucial service. Their presence not only deters
crime coming from outside a facility, it also prevents criminal activity from happening within
establishments. They are the first responders to incidents that require law enforcement assistance
within a facility. Whether a situation is simple or dangerous, they respond and are responsible for the
safety of the people and property that they are protecting. Security guards should be highly rewarded

It can be assessed that security guards indirectly affect the economy, because their protection allows
people to work and spend money, which helps to restore the economy. Having security guards in any
facility makes people feel safe and protected; and such a responsibility of public trust should entitle
them to a higher salary. Moreover, they deserve more pay because protecting people is a difficult task,
and a high percentage of people do not cooperate with authority. Some people object to having
security guards in facilities and around them; which makes the job of a security officer more complex.
The challenge of having to protect a facility is a tough job, but protecting a facility on a 24 hour basis
and protecting hundreds or thousands of people at the same time is a job that definitely should entitle
more pay. When performing their duties, pay is the last thing on the minds of security guards. The
protection of both the people and property, remain their priorities and they remain vigilant in doing so.
People should consider the purpose of security guards, and acknowledge them accordingly.
Considering the responsibities, risks, and long hours associated with their job, it can be conclude that
security guards are over worked. According to the Work Time Directive the average security officer is

Lieutenant Roberts says Trinidadian Carnival is known world Wide and isn t only a party, but a lot of

the recently introduced j ouvert which has been a part of the Trinidadian Carnival from the onset.
There was many notable differences that were noted such as the judiciary body where colonial style
courtrooms were replaced with modern infrastructures. In Relation to Dimension 2, Lieutenant
Roberts said that Trinidad citizens would demonstrate more Individualism than Communitarianism.
This was mainly because of the rise in crime people would be focused on safety, personal gain and
career opportunities. However, he noted that during many of these national events people would be

Video Games and Sociological Theory Essay
Video Games and Sociological Theory
July 22, 2012
Video games have become as pervasive an aspect of our society as television, with many people
spending more time playing video games than watching television. There are many perspectives with
which to gauge videos games effect on society, from a functionalist, conflict or interactionist
perspective. (Schaefer, 2011) Each of these sociological theories can provide a different view of video
games, how they affect society and the subcultures that develop around them.
The functionalist perspective would emphasize the way in which the parts of a society are structured
to maintain its stability. (Schaefer, 2011) A functionalist may point out the manifest functions of video
games as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A more in depth study may look at video games from a Marxist point of view, characterizing the
games as a modern day opiate of the masses with multi billion dollar corporations publishing the
games to keep the proletariat occupied and oblivious to their plights. A feminist may cite the standard
role of female video game characters as being the damsel in distress and even strong female characters
usually being relegated to sex symbol status.
An interactionist would study the effect of videos games on individuals, rather than on society as a
whole. (Schaefer, 2011) Some things they may study would be any influence the games have on a
behavior of a person. Another interactionist aspect would be the effect on families, where, like many
things, video games can bring a family together or alienate members. Online multiplayer games now
can also allow people to interact with other players from all over the world, being exposed to people
and aspects of culture they may never have encountered otherwise. The interactionist may also look at
gaming clans, and how the interaction of members affects daily life outside of video games.
The sociological interpretations of video games are almost as numerous as the games themselves, and
like many aspects of our society can be harmful or beneficial depending on how they are utilized by

Research Paper On Luminol
How does it work and what is the science behind it?
Luminol is a chemical that helps crime investigator and detectives find blood or traces of blood not
visible in a crime scene. The way it works is, after you spray the reagent in the suspected area, it
illuminates a bright blue that can be seen in the dark. The science behind this blood detection
technique is that luminol reacts with iron found in hemoglobin, thus making invisible or suspected
bloodshed visible to the crime investigator (How Does...).
The main part of this reaction and also the way light is produced is when the iron in the blood oxidizes
with luminol, resulting in an electronically charged particle, known as 3 amino phthalate, which then
produces the blue light that we see (Micheal Seery).
Is luminol successful in detecting blood compared to other chemicals that do the same thing? What are
its limitations?
Luminol: Strengths
a) Since it comes in a spray bottle, you can quickly spray over large areas effortlessly.
b) The surfaces or articles that have been sprayed with Luminol are not corroded or stained in any
way. This is especially important when investigators want to keep the article or photograph the surface
as proof of evidence.

When considering the facts of the Margolin s lawsuit with the rules of jurisdiction, first one must
understand when personal jurisdiction and subject matter jurisdiction would be applicable. As stated in
the textbook, Personal Jurisdiction is a court s power to render a decision affecting the rights of the
specific persons before the court. Generally, a court s power to exercise in personam jurisdiction
extends only over a specific geographic region. (Kubasek, pg.42, 2009). Before a court can decide to
implement control over a person, they require a minimum contact within the district in which the court
is over. In this case, the minimum contact was established over the internet when Margolin inputted
information over the internet that completed the business transaction. Since the contact is through the
internet, and not within boundaries of the state of California or Florida, the court can exercise personal
jurisdiction Margolin s lawsuit over Funny Face and Novelty Now (Kubasek, 2009).
The subject matter jurisdiction is the courts authority to judge particular lawsuits in federal or state
courts. As discussed in the textbook, Subject matter jurisdiction determines which court system may
hear a particular case (Kubasek, pg.44, 2009). Novelty One s website states that all complaints must
be settled with the state of Florida when filed against Funny Face or Novelty One. Therefore, the

Themes Of Survival In Apollo 13
The movie Apollo 13 by Ron Howard and The Martian by Ridley Scott, both discuss the similar ideas

present the idea and shape the audience response.
Apollo 13 directed by Ron Howard is a movie based on a true story following the events of the

on their mission to the moon where a faulty in the equipment trigger an explosion in the oxygen tank,
they find themselves struggling for survival with the limited fuel and resources. Quite like the story,
The Martian directed by Ridley Scott focuses on the protagonist, Mark Watney, survival on Mars set

behind on Mars while the other crew fled. Mark Watney struggle for his survival on Mars with limited
resources, where he has to try and survive until NASA sends their next manned mission to Mars in
around four years.
In both movies, they share the same theme of survival in an unconventional setting of extra terrestrial
location. Although they share the same ideas, Howard shows the struggle of survival with a group;
whereas Scott shows the struggle for survival in isolation.

On Emotion and Value in David Hume and Max Scheler
ABSTRACT: While some philosophers tend to exclude any significance of emotion for the moral life,
others place them in the center of both the moral life and the theory of value judgment. This paper
presents a confrontation of two classic positions of the second type, namely the position of Hume and
Scheler. The ultimate goal of this confrontation is metatheoretical particularly as it concerns the
analysis of the relations between the idea of emotion and the idea of value in this kind of theory of
value judgment. In conclusion, I point to some important theoretical assumptions which underlie the
positions of both thinkers despite all the other differences between them. In at least ... Show more

Hume on Passion and Value
The relation between passion and value in Hume s philosophy has been repeatedly discussed. (3) In
contrast to some contemporary writers, Hume devoted a lot of effort and space to the theory of passion
before presenting his, based on emotion moral theory, in Book III of the Treatise. (4)
However, as I believe, Hume s philosophy on the whole, contains not one, but two theories of passion.
One of them is a theory of the genesis of passions from pains and pleasures. The second theory, on the
other hand, refers to the group of passions which are after N. Kemp Smith called primary passions;
and I will call it the descriptive theory of passion. The Treatise is dominated almost exclusively by the
theory of genesis but the role of the descriptive theory in Enquiries is more important, and particularly
in those places where Hume argues against hedonism and egoism in his theory of motivation. On the
theory of genesis, passions are produced from pains and pleasures either directly or indirectly which,
as it is well known, leads to Hume s distinction between direct and indirect passions. According to the
descriptive theory, however, the situation is quite different. In their existence, the primary passions do
not depend on pleasures and pains, on the contrary, pains and pleasures are produced by them. There is
an interesting tension between these two theories in Hume s philosophy but this problem cannot be
discussed here.

Heroic Statements In Beowulf
The Anglo Saxon story of Beowulf shows considerable heroic statements. Beowulf was an admirable
hero that everyone looked up to, much like modern heroes today like, Spiderman and Batman.
Beowulf was thought of as a strong character that was virtually flawless. Everyone that went up
against him failed. There are many things that separate him from an everyday hero, and there is much
that is alike between the two. Beowulf, prince of the Geats, and their strongest warrior, was called
upon by the Dane s to help them stop a raging beast from eating their own (Snell). This caused him to
leave his country to aid the Dane s in defeating a monster named Grendel. In the battle between
Grendel and himself, Beowulf decided against using weapons besides his bare hands. This showed
both strength and determination to prove himself as the greatest warrior in the lands. After beating
Grendel by ripping his arm off, Grendel s mother sought revenge for the loss of her ... Show more

Everybody has one, and one person s hero could be another s everyday person. Thomas A. Barron has
this to say, If heroes show us anything, it s how to become our best selves. But when we ask why
people become heroic, nobody has an answer. In short, heroic and egotistical impulses can arrive at
the same moment. But can we choose between them? (Cloud). It is very hard to know when something
is egotistical or when something is supposed to be heroic. Everybody has different reasons for doing
different things. Whether or not a man saving a cat from a tree is a form of heroism or a form of
manipulation for money, is only something they would know. Being a hero is about more than helping
someone out, being a hero is going above and beyond for someone you might not even know. If
heroes show us anything, it s how to become our best selves. They may do great things for the world,
but to many of my readers the true mark of a hero is someone who inspires and motivates others to do
their best.

Genetic Engineering. Factor X in human beings

Alex Rodriguez

Genetic Engineering
Were Factor X absent from human beings, all would be deprived of the essential quality underneath
that is worthy of a certain minimal level of respect (Fukuyama 149). Factor X is the key factor in
human beings that justify our equality. Francis Fukuyama categorizes accidental characteristics by
skin color, social class and wealth, gender, cultural background, and even one s natural talents as
nonessential, yet he states we make decisions on whom to befriend, whom to marry or do business
with, or whom to shun at social events based on these secondary characteristics (Fukuyama 150).
During earlier periods in history, people believed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Geneticist Lee Silver strongly encourages genetic engineering, arguing that we should seize this power
and not leave anything to chance as it has in the past. On what basis can we reject positive genetic
influences on a person s essence when we accept the rights of parents to benefit their children in every
other way? (Fukuyama 153). He bases this on the fact that parents control their children s lives
whether it is socially or environmentally influential, and in some cases, with the use of powerful drugs
like Ritalin and Prozac (Fukuyama 153). He believes we would not require a need for that if genetic
engineering were in play. On the other hand, he is also nonetheless horrified at the possibility that it
could be used to create a class of genetically superior people. He paints a scenario in which a class
called the GenRich steadily improve the cognitive abilities of their children to the point that they
break off from the rest of the human race to form a separate species (Fukuyama 154).
It is likely that a form of hierarchy would arise, should genetic engineering become part of our society.
Many of the grounds on which certain groups were historically denied their share of human dignity
were proven to be simply a matter of prejudice, or else based on cultural and environmental conditions
that could be changed (Fukuyama 156). Fukuyama relates this idea to the apprehension that women
were too illogical or impetuous to engage in

Jack s Transformation In Lord Of The Flies Essay
As time progresses on the island without a real system of order, human nature takes over in many of
the boys, starting with Jack. Although it does not last, at the beginning of the novel even Jack agrees
with Ralph saying that they need to have rules and obey them (Golding 42). This helps display the
dramatic transformation the boys go through to eventually become full fledged savages. Golding
allows this transformation to happen in what seems like an unsettlingly fast amount of time. It shows
how quick humans can go from being functioning parts of society to savages that act like animals
without any regard for right and wrong. This makes one think about civilization in general. It raises
the question of how close society as a whole is to falling apart. Most would say that it comes down to

and his group abandon the fire and go hunting for pigs (Golding #). This is quite alarming as he has
already lost sight of getting off the island. Roger kills Piggy with a boulder that simultaneously
destroys the conch, leaving Ralph as the only representation of civilization in any form (Golding 180
181). Ralph is one of the few alive that cares and understands that civilization and order are important.
He strives to save the group, but he cannot save the group unless they help themselves. Instead of
being productive and unable to get their priorities straight, the remaining boys are more worried about
killing Ralph than getting off the

Ed Fletcher s Response To The Message
Ed Fletcher was one of the creators of the song The Message by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious
Five, which was released in 1982. This song depicted a horrible scene of blacks living in the ghettos,
which was relevant socially because of the issue of racism that was being addressed, and had been an
issue for a long time. Although the book didn t mention much about his personal life, as a black man it
is obvious why he would want to create a song that addresses racism towards blacks. The Message
takes the approach of describing the awful treatment that people living in the ghettos were receiving,
which was particularly relevant to the artists who created the song, like Ed Fletcher as I just
mentioned, because they were all blacks who had likely experienced this situation. The lyrics used in
the song, such as Got no money to move out, I guess I got no choice, Rats in the front room, roaches
in the back, Junkies in the alley with a baseball bat aid in connecting with the listener s sympathy for
those who experience this, in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This song talks about someone coming home from the war who wasn t treated very well. They lyrics
are very straightforward, depicting a story through words such as, Got in a little hometown jam, so
they put a rifle in my hand; Sent me off to a foreign land to go and kill the yellow man (Google). What
s particularly ironic about this is that a lot of people thought that the song was very patriotic, even
though it s lyrics clearly state the opposite. One reason the book suggested this might have been so
was because people might not have even been listening to the lyrics, hence weakening the impact of
his message. One reason why Springsteen might have created this song was because although he didn
t have this experience himself, a lot of people his age had come home from the war not long before
and received this rough

Film, Born Into Brothels
In the film, Born into Brothels (2004), British filmmakers Zana Briski and Ross Kauffman setout to
present a perspective from the children of sex workers living in Red Light District of Sonagachi,
Calcutta. This film, however incidental, demonstrate single narratives on the basis of morality,
sexuality, and preconceived notions about the third world. Their attempt at filming an impartial
ethnographic film that spoke of the true nature of life as a child in the Red Light District of Calcutta
failed from their Western gaze and lack of insight about the community of Sonagachi to contextualize
how the Red Light District and the poverty surrounding are a result of globalization. Acknowledging
the before that Briski and Kauffman could never understand about the Red Light District because of
their limited Western understanding about the third world, would ve resulted in a more inclusive look
into the subjective perspectives of the children. Instead, using footage and still pictures of the dirty
allies, children covered in what seems to be oil, naked children chained like animals in a zoo, etc, as
an aesthetic (lens) used to reproduce hegemonic narratives about the third world and objectively
reflect reality. Additionally, these shots separate the people of the Red Light District from Westerners
and establishes and us and a them , them being objects and not full established subjects. Starting from
the film s cover, one can already know what the film entails. The cover has

A low fat diet would consist of little to no fats, that including healthy fats. Low fat diets are intended
to help reduce disease, such as would be eaten in generously proportioned amounts during a low fat
diet. Vegetables and fruits would also be eaten often, and foods rich in fat would be eaten not at all or
very sparingly. Foods with added sugar and saturated fat are a no no during this diet. In contrast to
how healthy these diets are made up to be, three massive studies by WHI, MRFIT, and Action For
Health in Diabetes have shown that low fat diets illustrate no drastic change in weight or prevention in

Data Analysis On Identifying Key Analysis Skills, Student...
Results of Data Analysis Data Analysis Techniques Used When analyzing the data the focus was on
identifying key analysis skills, student performance and the amount of instruction given. The survey
data was compiled and organized into those three categories for further analysis. The 4 step analysis
was graded according to a rubric (see Table 1). The scores were tallied and categorized and placed into
four performance groups, 0 2 points demonstrate beginning analysis skills, 3 4 basic, 5 6 proficient
and 7 8 mastery level. The analysis shows student performance and mastery of analysis skills. Results
of Analysis Teachers were asked which skills were needed for map analysis on a numerical scale 1 5,
with 5 being critical for mastery. According to Table 2, educators value map and graph analysis skills.
When doing a map or graph analysis it is important for students to have foundation skills to build
upon. Students must be able to correctly identify the map type and title, and in order to answer
questions they must also know how to identify and read a key. Educators also ranked higher order
thinking skills just as critical for analysis skills. Educators believe that being able to independently
discus the data with no outside prompts, being able to recognize what factors influence and caused the
data and what effects the data will have are all crucial for students to master. Table 2 Skills needed for

Patrick Lencioni s Three Signs Of A Miserable Job
THREE SIGNS OF A MISERABLE JOB DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1. Is a miserable job different
than a bad job? If so, in what ways? A miserable job is not the same as a bad job. According to Patrick
Lencioni, what is considered a bad job varies from person to person. Lencioni states, Some people
consider a job bad because it is physically demanding or exhausting, involving long hours in the hot
sun. Others see it as one that doesn t pay well. Still others call a job bad because it requires a long
commute or a great deal of time sitting behind a desk. It really depends on who you are and what you
value and enjoy. A miserable job differs from a bad job because instead of disliking parts of your job
you job is physically and emotionally draining you. Lencioni states that, [A miserable job is] the one
you dread going to and can t wait to leave. It s the one that saps your energy even when you re not
busy. It s the one that makes you go home at the end of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Do you understand how your performance will be measured and assessed in your current job? If so,
how do you know this? What about in your classes this semester? What did Brian do in Three Signs of
a Miserable Job to help his employees understand how they would be measured? Give several very
specific examples. I did not understand how my performance was being measured and assessed at my
job. I would assume that I am performing well well I did not get feedback from my mangers saying
others wise. At my job no feedback was good feedback. My classes are another story. This semester,
all but one of my classes post grades regularly so I know exactly how I am performing and what I
need to change or keep doing in each class to remain successful. In Three Signs of a Miserable Job,
Brian asked his employee Carl to ask him self what measurement should be used to determine if Carl
did a good job at work or not. Brian and Carl came up with a placement sheet that Carl would keep
with him to measure his performance at his

How Does Julius Caesar Change
The past actions and experiences of political leaders greatly impact their election and their acceptance
into the community that the role over. Mistakes of people in the public eye are frequently
acknowledged. However, sometime those impacted by the person that has their flaws disclosed accept
them because of more recent behaviors. Yet, some people do not believe that people can or will
change. In William Shakespeare s Julius Caesar, the power to rule the Roman Empire eventually
transfers to Mark Antony, who was a well known politician who has a background of partying, after
Caesar dies. Rome is in good hands with Antony having power that he can responsibly and

Cassius adds in his opinions into the conversation by saying that he thinks it is not meet Mark Antony,
so well beloved of Caesar, Should outlive Caesar. We shall find of him A shrewd contriver. And, you

Antony and Caesar fall together(2.1.167 173) To the other politicians at this time, he is considered to
be different because of his strong mutual bond and respect for Caesar. Antony was not part of the
conspiracy so he is kept in oblivion. This causes him to find out from others what sort of planning had
taken place to end his friend, and leader s, life. Without hearing the news directly from the conspiracy
with an explanation from the beginning, he is more likely to be in shock and act more drastically. As a
result Antony is a concern to Cassius because of the connections that Antony has and could possibly
use against the conspiracy in retaliation toward those stab Caesar. He is not trusted to avoid any
violence in relation to the conspirators because of his strong loyalty to Caesar. Additionally, Antony s
dedication to Caesar allows him to offer a monarchy role to Caesar, which causes the conspirators to
have enough evidence of a monarchy starting to kill Caesar before it could happen.

An Abused Child s Reality
An abused child s reality is different from the imagination; in the mind one can create happiness in a
make believe universe. The concept of fusion between a dreamland of vision and reality could never
occur in concert; two separate worlds controlled by violence; upon a whim a moment of fear could
escalate, therefore, the restriction in place will, in prison one s soul to suffocate in due time. This
restricts the personality from developing and the mind from believing it possesses the power to create
those dreams in reality. Several unpleasant disorders, poor choices, death, even murder, ends up
happening. Every mind is different, that means every choice is different, one person will handle
horrible experiences more appropriate than another,

  • 3. The World Is Becoming More And More Transparent Day By Day... The world is becoming more and more transparent day by day through globalization since people have begun to shift their perspective, and change their way of thinking and behave accordingly. Everyone is spectating different types of cultures and the religions that other people follow across the globe, along with the mix technological advancements which will ultimately shape what people believe it to be normal or abnormal. Therefore, with the integration of what seems to be normal in today s world can be in fact abnormal a 100 years from now, and vice versa. Michael Warner illustrates in his writing, The Trouble with Normal that, People didn t sweat much over being normal until the spread of statistics in the nineteenth century. Now they are surrounded by numbers that tell them what normal is: census figures, market demographics, opinion polls, social science studies, psychological surveys, clinical tests, sales figures, trends, the mainstream, the current generation, the common man, the man on the street, the heartland of America etcetera. (Warner, p.53). These are many of the few statistical perspectives that have taken great leaps through technological advancements and globalization. Similarly, we get to learn more about the human behavior through cultural and evolutionary perspectives. These methods can help guide the behavior of normality and abnormality throughout time. It seems pretty obvious from today s world that the mass migration towards the urban areas ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Baseball Problems There s a problem coursing through baseball, and it goes well beyond Philadelphia Phillies manager Gabe Kapler choosing which reliever to use by throwing a dart. Attendance for Major League Baseball games is down 6.6 percent from this time last year, forecasting the third straight season of decline. While the popular excuse is to blame the downturn on early season washouts, Commissioner Rob Manfred recently told The Wall Street Journal he is concerned that there s something to it more than weather. In Philadelphia, attendance is actually up about three percent from 2017 to 24,855 per game. But considering the Phils are currently 15 games improved over their 22 47 record a year ago, this is no cause for smug satisfaction. Manfred is correct, of course. The national pastime has systemic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Three problems that I see, actually: 1. The sport has become too expensive While attending a Major League Baseball game remains cheaper than watching other sports, it has moved out of the range where heading to the park can be an impulse buy. The average Phillies ticket this season costs $36, according to the data tracking company Statista. While this is actually cheaper than last year, it still means that including parking, a few snacks, and a souvenir a family of four s visit to the ballpark will be a $250 hit. 2. Baseball lacks identifiable superstars The NBA has LeBron James, Steph Curry, and many others recognized just by their first name. The NFL has at least six quarterbacks famous to the world. Baseball has . . . uhh. Yes, Mike Trout is an amazing player. Clayton Kershaw and Max Scherzer may be all time greats. But, alas, none has any kind of national or international standing. A recent ESPN study of the 100 most famous athletes in the world included zero baseball players. We can fairly blame poor marketing, but the sport sorely needs players with the magnetic personalities of Ken Griffey, Jr., Randy Johnson, and Big ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Small Complex Financial Institutions Found Themselves Of... Zhong Zheng Mark Sniderman, Ph.D. Econ 376 8th Nov 2014 Short Paper #3 Many large complex financial institutions found themselves of liquidity at the beginning of the crisis and as it progressed. I think they were surprised. The trigger for the liquidity crisis was an increase in subprime mortgage defaults, which was first noted in February 2007. The bank centered nature of the crisis made it harder than in the past for banks to attract deposits and provide liquidity to borrowers shut out of securities markets. Banks may not be able to provide liquidity in a financial crisis. The reason for this is that a bank centered crisis may lead investors to concern about the safety of bank deposits, even with deposit insurance. Therefore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other hand, AIG has been increasingly active in the credit derivatives business, including credit default swaps. AIG s stock price fell more than 90 percent, capping off a large decline from the previous days in September 16, 2008. The AIG bailout was extended by a further 37 million in October and another 40 billion in November. An originate to distribute model of lending, where the originator of a loan sells it to various third parties, was a popular method of mortgage lending before the onset of the subprime mortgage crisis. This originate to distribute model had advantages over the old originate to hold model, where a bank originated a loan to the borrower and retained the credit risk. People believe that originate to distribute model of banking played a key role in the development of the financial crisis because instead of holding loans on banks balance sheets, banks moved to an originate and distribute model. Banks repackaged loans and passed them on to various other financial investors, thereby off loading risk. Next, banks increasingly financed their asset holdings with shorter maturity instruments. This change left banks particularly exposed to a dry up in funding liquidity. However, Gary Gorton has a different perspective. He believes that originate to distribute model claims that securitizations should not end up on bank balance sheets. There is no basis for his idea. In fact, there is an important ... A book of a sad suicide turns into a brutal murder but for what? A beautiful lie or did little girls really die? Lynn Weingarten wrote a New York bestseller, suicide notes from beautiful girls, it was a hit in New York but due to all the disregard for the law, lack of respect for authority, and all the talk of sinful lives this won t make the Top Salem Seller. • 7. Euthanasia And Physician Assisted Suicide Essay Euthanasia and physician assisted suicide are both types of medical assistance aiding in ending a suffering patient s life. This pain may be due to a terminal illness and suffering as well as those in an irreversible coma. This practice of doctor assisted suicide is illegal in many countries, but is increasing in popularity as people start to recognize the positive aspects that euthanasia has to offer for those that fit the criteria. Euthanasia is essential for those, placed in such life diminishing situations, and whom no longer want to experience suffering. This is where the issue gets complicated, and many religious groups argue that individuals should not have the legal right to choose whether they get to die or not, but that it is simply in God s hands. Suffering patients argue that they should be given the right to choose whether or not they have to experience this suffering, to end their life with the dignity they still have, and to alleviate the stress that their deteriorating life conditions have on their families, themselves and the entire healthcare system. Therefore, despite the many arguments, euthanasia can have a very positive impact on the lives and families of suffering individuals, as well as the Canadian healthcare system. To kill an individual or simply let someone die who meets the criteria of a sick patient are deemed very two different things. Killing someone who does not wish to die goes against our basic human law of life. Killing of intent defies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Essay on The Evolution of the Image of Women in Sports The Evolution of the Image of Women in Sports 1. Through the readings, films, and discussions, we have looked at the image of women in sport. Discuss the images of women in sport and how they are affected by today s cultural ideal of women. All of the films that we watched provided different perspectives on how the image of women is situated in our culture. From the first movie, Dare to Compete, which highlighted the development of women s participation in sports, to Love and Basketball, which fully accepts women s participation in sports, we examined a range of views and opinions on the proper role of women in sports. Dare to Compete presented images of women in sports over many years, highlighting the evolution of female ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The women in Bend it Like Beckham had to deal with cultural stereotypes against women in sport. Jess mother had strictly confined ideas of how a woman should look. She did not approve of Jess playing soccer, but if she did it was important for her to keep her legs covered. The issue that comes up repeatedly in this movie is the popular notion that women will not be perceived as women if they are sporty . Jess mother is afraid that men will not be interested in her because of her athleticism and Jules mother blames her daughter s lack of a boyfriend on her participation in the soccer team. Although the two mothers represent different cultures, both of their cultures state that female athletes are not feminine or desirable. They are certainly not normal. I think one of the important distinctions in this film is that, while there are certainly many who uphold that belief, there are many others who see and appreciate female athletes. Even Jess father come to appreciate her athleticism by the end of the film. An important moment in the film occurs when Jules mother mistakenly believes that Jules is a lesbian. Although this is humorous in the film, it shows that the image of female athletes is still equated with the image of homosexuals. I think this once again is rooted in the misguided belief that no one in mainstream society would find a female athlete desirable. In Girlfight, the protagonist, Diana, seems to be determined to fight ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Character Analysis Of Shameless As A Dramatic Comedy Have you ever wanted to watch a dramatic comedy, but could never find the one ? I would highly recommend Shameless for anyone one who is having trouble finding the one . There are many television shows that can keep anyone entertained, but Shameless has all the right factors that are needed to be a great dramatic comedy. Shameless is a good dramatic comedy because the characters and situations are relatable to real life, the TV show has moral teachings, and it s very suspenseful. One of the things that makes Shameless such a great dramatic comedy is how the characters and situations are so relatable to real life. It s important for a TV show to make the audience feel like they re connected to the characters as they deal with their situations in each episode. There is evidence in every season that shows the relativity between the characters and real life situations. For example, in season 6, episode 1; Frank is currently dealing with losing a loved one, while both daughters, Fiona and Debbie are making decisions about their pregnancy. Fiona begs for her little sister to do adoption or abortion. Debbie doesn t quite understand how Knue 2 having a child while being fourteen, can ruin a lot of great opportunities later. Fiona chooses to have an abortion since she cannot make enough money to support herself or all her siblings. In addition to relatable characters and situations, Shameless also offers moral teachings. How does a dramatic comedy offer moral teachings? Shameless provides many examples on how drug and alcohol abuse affects a family home. There is also evidence on how Shameless provides that. In season 4, episode 5; Fiona celebrates something good that has happened, but not in a correct way. She decides to buy drugs, and leave them out where her little brother, Liam, can get his hands on causing him to overdose. Fiona then faces the consequences on the abuse of drugs, and the toll it can have on a family. Another prime example would be in season 3, episode 7; Fiona fights for her rights to become legal guardian over her younger siblings after being taken away from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sunny in particular, was the head leader of the brotherhood and was the fimlamker of the documentary. The Bra Boys were portrayed as misunderstood heros, show as both the protagonist and the antagonist. Abberton wanted to show the audience that they helped the community and did good things for them. They were portrayed as the protagonist by the surfing community as they looked up to the Abberton brothers. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Music was akey technique used by Sonny Abberton to show that the group members were tough and that nothing could separate them. They did this by using heavy metal music when the surfing scenes were intense. In one particular scene, Jai s court case, they used sad music (piano and violin) during the verdict to make us feel sad as we thought it was a negative outcome and to lead us to believe that the verdict was going to be negative. They then used happy music to inform us that the verdict was a positive outcome and made us feel cheerful. An other scene where they used the technique of sad music (1:07:54, La Mar, Beautiful Girls) was Ma s funeral, it was used to make the audience feel sorry for the Abberton borthers and upset. An additional film technique is how Sunny Abberton decided to film the documentary. The shots included close ups for example, in the car on the way to Koby s court hearing they used this technique to make us feel as though we were there in the car too, and we were feeling the emotions he was feeling. Hand held shots were also used quite frequently. The hand held shots were there to provide us with primary sources of information. Rukmani s Nectar In A Sieve Entry Nectar in a Sieve Entry One night, Rukmani heard soft footsteps, and thought it was Kunthi coming to rob them of what little they had, unashamed of her previous actions. Rukmani went outside, and threw herself at the figure she saw. She beat it to the ground, overcome with rage, as the figure struggled weakly. Then Rukmani was pulled off the figure, and Nathan scolded her for beating her own daughter. For instance, assassination is the act of killing an important person for political reasons while murder is the killing of an average person for any reason. Also, assassination has only happened to important political figures, such as Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr, and John F. Kennedy. Another important person who was assassinated was Patrice Lumumba. He was an important historical figure who was possibly either killed by troops who were loyal to Colonel Mobutu or the CIA. Around September, 1961, Lumumba was dismissed from the government by President Kasa Vubu. Furious, he retaliated by declaring the president deposed. As to be expected, this did not go well with Colonel Joseph Mobutu, and so on the 14th of September, the colonel incapacitated both Lumumba and Kasa Vubu. The formula for a good marriage is highly in demand, and the failure of a marriage begins to point fingers at either side. The 50% divorce rate in America is all too high, which begins to raise questions, who and what is at fault to the failure of these marriages. Is it the neglect between a husband and wife, the miscommunication, or ones high expectation of their significant other? Many problems arise in a marriage, women tend to complain men do not fulfill their duty as a husband by not communicating, and men feel as if they truly do undertake this need. This thus creates problems and miscommunication of expectations of either husband or wife. Nevertheless of the complications that ascend, the fundamental aspect of a marriage is corporative communication between two partners and understanding each other s needs and establishing a compromise. Although in Sex, Lies, and Conversation, Tannen declares there is a pervasive imbalance of expectations of communications between men and women, which leads to many causalities of marriage, Brady, in I Want a Wife, implies men outrages expectation of women are the foremost motive for the failure of relationships. Known as anarchists and draft evaders, the accused men faced a hostile judge and a public convinced of their guilt. Despite Sacco s corroborated testimony that he was at the Italian consulate in Boston at the time of the murder, the two were found guilty on the basis of witness identification and their suspicious behavior after the murder, and were sentenced to death by Judge Webster Thayer. Many Irish people initially struggled to reconcile the politics of Irish nationalism with Irish contributions to World War One. George Russell was one of the first to attempt to offer an equal commemoration of both events. In 1917, Russell published his poem To the Memory of Some I Knew Who are Dead and Who Loved Ireland in the Irish Times. This poem was a revised version of Salutation, which Russell had written to commemorate the rebels of the Easter Rebellion. In the revised version, Russell interspersed each stanza about the rebels with stanzas about Irish soldiers. Russell unites these two great losses and their ideologies. Heat stress can lead to a number of heat related illness such as heat exhaustion, heat stroke, heat cramps, fainting, or heat rash ( CDC, 2017 OSHA , 2017). When working condition is extremely hot the body temperature regulation system breaks down and body temperature rises rapidly causing heat stroke and death (Jennifer et al., 2009). Heroes usually hold the same values; honor, nobility, integrity, and strength. Now what happens when a person does not hold those heroic values? What if their motivations did not have good intentions? These are the questions that will be answered using the deconstruction critical lenses. The Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur has evolved into the modern trilogy of Batman which, when deconstructed, reveals how the selfish motivations of these supposed heroes can be perceived as heroic under the right circumstances. In the Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur the young Athenian prince Theseus sets out on a hero s journey to conquer the minotaur and gain fame. On Theseus s journey he encounters multiple obstacles, which he overcomes with the help of different companions he meets along the way. The young Theseus beings his journey emanating the values of a hero which during the Greek era were: honor, nobility, integrity, and strength but as time passes he slowly begins to lose those values until finally these qualities are replaced with arrogance. Luminol is a chemical that helps crime investigator and detectives find blood or traces of blood not visible in a crime scene. The way it works is, after you spray the reagent in the suspected area, it illuminates a bright blue that can be seen in the dark. The science behind this blood detection technique is that luminol reacts with iron found in hemoglobin, thus making invisible or suspected bloodshed visible to the crime investigator (How Does...). The main part of this reaction and also the way light is produced is when the iron in the blood oxidizes with luminol, resulting in an electronically charged particle, known as 3 amino phthalate, which then produces the blue light that we see (Micheal Seery). Is luminol successful in detecting blood compared to other chemicals that do the same thing? What are its limitations? There are five living species of rhino (black, white, Indian, Javan and Sumatran) and only two of the elephant (African and the Asian). All are in jeopardy of extinction with their slow rate of breeding, poaching and in the rhinoceroses, their territorial behavior. Both of these beasts belong to the same kingdom (Animalia), phylum (Chordata), sub phylum (Vertebrata) and class (Mammalia). Meaning they are both back boned mammalian, animals. Discuss the ways the directors have used language and stylistics features to present the idea and shape the audience response. Apollo 13 directed by Ron Howard is a movie based on a true story following the events of the successful failure of NASA s third lunar landing mission in 1970. Apollo 13 follows three astronauts on their mission to the moon where a faulty in the equipment trigger an explosion in the oxygen tank, they find themselves struggling for survival with the limited fuel and resources. • 36. Essay about On Emotion and Value in David Hume and Max... On Emotion and Value in David Hume and Max Scheler ABSTRACT: While some philosophers tend to exclude any significance of emotion for the moral life, others place them in the center of both the moral life and the theory of value judgment. This paper presents a confrontation of two classic positions of the second type, namely the position of Hume and Scheler. The ultimate goal of this confrontation is metatheoretical particularly as it concerns the analysis of the relations between the idea of emotion and the idea of value in this kind of theory of value judgment. In conclusion, I point to some important theoretical assumptions which underlie the positions of both thinkers despite all the other differences between them. In at least ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hume on Passion and Value The relation between passion and value in Hume s philosophy has been repeatedly discussed. (3) In contrast to some contemporary writers, Hume devoted a lot of effort and space to the theory of passion before presenting his, based on emotion moral theory, in Book III of the Treatise. (4) However, as I believe, Hume s philosophy on the whole, contains not one, but two theories of passion. One of them is a theory of the genesis of passions from pains and pleasures. The second theory, on the other hand, refers to the group of passions which are after N. Kemp Smith called primary passions; and I will call it the descriptive theory of passion. The Treatise is dominated almost exclusively by the theory of genesis but the role of the descriptive theory in Enquiries is more important, and particularly in those places where Hume argues against hedonism and egoism in his theory of motivation. On the theory of genesis, passions are produced from pains and pleasures either directly or indirectly which, as it is well known, leads to Hume s distinction between direct and indirect passions. According to the descriptive theory, however, the situation is quite different. In their existence, the primary passions do not depend on pleasures and pains, on the contrary, pains and pleasures are produced by them. There is an interesting tension between these two theories in Hume s philosophy but this problem cannot be discussed here. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Heroic Statements In Beowulf The Anglo Saxon story of Beowulf shows considerable heroic statements. Beowulf was an admirable hero that everyone looked up to, much like modern heroes today like, Spiderman and Batman. Beowulf was thought of as a strong character that was virtually flawless. Everyone that went up against him failed. There are many things that separate him from an everyday hero, and there is much that is alike between the two. Beowulf, prince of the Geats, and their strongest warrior, was called upon by the Dane s to help them stop a raging beast from eating their own (Snell). This caused him to leave his country to aid the Dane s in defeating a monster named Grendel. In the battle between Grendel and himself, Beowulf decided against using weapons besides his bare hands. This showed both strength and determination to prove himself as the greatest warrior in the lands. After beating Grendel by ripping his arm off, Grendel s mother sought revenge for the loss of her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Everybody has one, and one person s hero could be another s everyday person. Thomas A. Barron has this to say, If heroes show us anything, it s how to become our best selves. But when we ask why people become heroic, nobody has an answer. In short, heroic and egotistical impulses can arrive at the same moment. But can we choose between them? (Cloud). It is very hard to know when something is egotistical or when something is supposed to be heroic. Everybody has different reasons for doing different things. Whether or not a man saving a cat from a tree is a form of heroism or a form of manipulation for money, is only something they would know. Being a hero is about more than helping someone out, being a hero is going above and beyond for someone you might not even know. If heroes show us anything, it s how to become our best selves. Factor X is the key factor in human beings that justify our equality. Francis Fukuyama categorizes accidental characteristics by skin color, social class and wealth, gender, cultural background, and even one s natural talents as nonessential, yet he states we make decisions on whom to befriend, whom to marry or do business with, or whom to shun at social events based on these secondary characteristics (Fukuyama 150). Geneticist Lee Silver strongly encourages genetic engineering, arguing that we should seize this power and not leave anything to chance as it has in the past. On what basis can we reject positive genetic influences on a person s essence when we accept the rights of parents to benefit their children in every other way? (Fukuyama 153). He bases this on the fact that parents control their children s lives whether it is socially or environmentally influential, and in some cases, with the use of powerful drugs like Ritalin and Prozac (Fukuyama 153). He believes we would not require a need for that if genetic engineering were in play. On the other hand, he is also nonetheless horrified at the possibility that it could be used to create a class of genetically superior people. He paints a scenario in which a class called the GenRich steadily improve the cognitive abilities of their children to the point that they break off from the rest of the human race to form a separate species (Fukuyama 154). It is likely that a form of hierarchy would arise, should genetic engineering become part of our society. Many of the grounds on which certain groups were historically denied their share of human dignity were proven to be simply a matter of prejudice, or else based on cultural and environmental conditions that could be changed (Fukuyama 156). Although it does not last, at the beginning of the novel even Jack agrees with Ralph saying that they need to have rules and obey them (Golding 42). This helps display the dramatic transformation the boys go through to eventually become full fledged savages. Golding allows this transformation to happen in what seems like an unsettlingly fast amount of time. It shows how quick humans can go from being functioning parts of society to savages that act like animals without any regard for right and wrong. This makes one think about civilization in general. This song depicted a horrible scene of blacks living in the ghettos, which was relevant socially because of the issue of racism that was being addressed, and had been an issue for a long time. Although the book didn t mention much about his personal life, as a black man it is obvious why he would want to create a song that addresses racism towards blacks. The Message takes the approach of describing the awful treatment that people living in the ghettos were receiving, which was particularly relevant to the artists who created the song, like Ed Fletcher as I just mentioned, because they were all blacks who had likely experienced this situation. What s particularly ironic about this is that a lot of people thought that the song was very patriotic, even though it s lyrics clearly state the opposite. One reason the book suggested this might have been so was because people might not have even been listening to the lyrics, hence weakening the impact of his message.
