Use of Violence in Beloved by Toni Morrison Essay
As much as society does not want to admit, violence serves as a form of entertainment. In media
today, violence typically has no meaning. Literature, movies, and music, saturated with violence, enter
the homes of millions everyday. On the other hand, in Beloved, a novel by Toni Morrison, violence
contributes greatly to the overall work. The story takes place during the age of the enslavement of
African Americans for rural labor in plantations. Sethe, the proud and noble protagonist, has suffered a
great deal at the hand of schoolteacher. The unfortunate and seemingly inevitable events that occur in
her life, fraught with violence and heartache, tug at the reader s heart strings. The wrongdoings Sethe
endures are significant to the meaning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One may argue that she does not display much emotion while killing her children, she unquestionably
resembles a lunatic. Without this vital scene, Beloved would lack the utterly shocking element that
such violence provides. People want to immerse themselves into stories about lunatics, emerge in the
drama, and sympathize with the dire pain Sethe feels. Violent scenes, among other elements, allow for
this to occur in a novel.
Destruction of identity, another theme of the novel, relates to the violent scenes. In the second part of
Beloved, Sethe takes a stand and expresses her feeling on the violent acts being performed on her.
Nobody will ever get my milk no more except my own children. I never had to give it to nobody else
and the one time I did it was took from me they held me down and took it. Milk that belonged to my
baby (Morrison 200). Sethe finally comes to terms with her past and vows to never let such a
horrendous act happen to her again. Beloved s reincarnation occurs because Sethe needs to face her
dark past head on and free herself from living in shame. It took time, but, Sethe eventually overcomes
the odds and begins to live freely and peacefully in her house.
Morrison bases Sethe s character off of real life murderer, Margaret Garner. Morrison leaves few of
the important elements of the story the same and alters others. Why did Morrison go through the
trouble of writing Beloved? She did not write it for

The Rise of Cult Activity Essay
The Rise of Cult Activity
Cult activity has been on the rise over the past few decades. With it there has been an increase in the
fear surrounding it. From this fear, society has learned much about cults, how they get members and
what to look out for as far as cult recruiters go. Society as a whole has also learned what can be done
to deal with cults. Cult activity and the fear that surrounds it
Throughout the last couple of decades more and more stories of illegal cult activity or murders by
satanic cults appear on the news each night. This surge of reported cult activity has caused a spark in
public interest. There has been a large increase in the fear that surrounds cults over the past couple of
years. A cult is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was in February of 1970 that the motive of these murders was discovered (Bugliosi, 1974, 283).
Through police investigation, it was discovered that the murders were cult related. Charles Manson
and members of his cult, known as The Family, were to blame. Manson and family lived on a ranch in
California. Manson was an avid fan of The Beatles and believed that this rock band spoke to him
though their lyrics. He particularly liked The Beatles White Album which included the song Helter
Skelter. Manson interpreted this song s lyrics as a prophecy of a race war that would take place
between the blacks and the whites. In this war, he believed the black man would rise up and slaughter
all of the whites. So Manson s plan was to take his family out into the desert and hide in a bottomless
pit until the war was over. After the war, he believed the blacks would realize all they ever knew was
taught to them by the white man, and if they wanted to survive, they would need a white person to tell
them what to do. That is when Manson and his Family would surface from the bottomless pit, and be
the rulers of the world as the master race (Bugliosi, 1974, 284 290).
The only problem with Manson s prophecy was that Helter Skelter never came. So he sent Family
members out to kill Sharon Tate and friends and instructed them to make it appear as if the blacks

My Experience In College Life
As a student, I can tell why some of the frustrations occur when the conscientious seldom does not pay
off adequate. No wonder thirty percent of first year college students drop out. Every second of college
life feels intimated since the future of student mostly rely on how they manipulate the time. I wonder
if I can keep myself into college, or will I be counted as one in those thirty percent of first year college
students. I don t want to be that statistic; I won t be. The present that I hold highlights my past, where
life granted me one last chance to change my destiny.
When I was eleven years old, my family and I lived in Nepal as refugees. Also, our house, as well as
others, was constructed from bamboo and thatch. It wasn t robust enough to sustain heavy wind, fire,
or rain. United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, also known as UNHCR, helped by
contributing rations such as rice, beans, oil, salt, and sugar. Every month, the provision was allocated
equally among the people in the camp warehouse. One day, on the way back from school, I noticed
my grandmother waving her hand at me from far away. I ran straight to her leaving friends behind to
play soccer. Eventually, I sat beside her as she continued her conversation with a neighbor aunt.
I heard my grandmother consider that our ancestors had a better life, and we weren t meant to be in a
refugee camp. In Bhutan where I spent half of my life, she said, we regularly farm and raise cows for

Rear Window Mise En Scene
The film Rear Window addresses cinematic themes throughout the entire film, specifically throughout
the last fifteen minutes. The movie ultimately uses cinematography to heavily describe the dramatic
plot regarding Jeff, Mr. Thorwald, and the intense discoveries found when eavesdropping from the
rear window. Film making techniques such as cinematography, mise en scene, sound, and more are all
cinematic elements included in the film that influence aspects of the films stylistic system. The last
fifteen minutes of Rear Window are heavily focused on the cinematic elements, specifically the
movement, angles and shot duration of the camera during the suspenseful moments during Jeff s plan
to prove Mr. Throwald is a murderer. Mise en scene plays an important role in the entire film,
Hitchcock uses mise en scene to symbolize many things; and is also heavily included in the last fifteen
minutes of the film regarding lighting, props and more. Rear Window is a tremendously suspenseful
film and uses both diegetic and non diegetic sounds throughout; Hitchcock used more diegetic sounds

Sound is another element in mise en scene, but plays a major role in Rear Window. Hitchcock uses

Argumentative Essay On Forensic Evidence
In 1984, a British geneticist named Alec Jeffreys stumbled upon one of our most important forensic
tools: DNA fingerprinting. Since his eureka moment, the scientific technique has been used
successfully to identify perpetrators of a crime, clarify paternity and exonerate people wrongly
convicted (Jones). DNA evidence, specifically simple mixture, is the most accurate type of forensic
evidence we currently have at our disposal, but even it is not infallible. Other types of forensic
evidence are much less accurate, but unfortunately their use is still permitted in U.S courtrooms.
Jurors may be misled by experts within the courtroom as well. These misconceptions about the
accuracy of forensic science and the field in general lead to many problems in the courtroom. The
most reliable type of forensic evidence is DNA, but it is still not perfect, and the results should be
portrayed that way in court. The reason DNA evidence is so accurate is because it is highly objective.
This objectivity makes it far less likely that an error will be made during the analysis of the DNA
sample. However, errors are still possible. For example, samples may be switched or contaminated
which could give a false result. There are two different kinds of DNA evidence, simple mixture/single
source samples and complex mixture samples. The vast majority of DNA analysis currently involves
samples from a single individual or from a simple mixture of two individuals (such as from a rape kit)

Data Warehouses and Data Marts: A Dynamic View

Data Warehouses and Data Marts: A Dynamic View By Joseph M. Firestone, Ph.D. White Paper No.
Three March 27, 1997
Patterns of Data Mart Development In the beginning, there were only the islands of information: the
operational data stores and legacy systems that needed enterprise wide integration; and the data
warehouse: the solution to the problem of integration of diverse and often redundant corporate
information assets. Data marts were not a part of the vision. Soon though, it was clear that the vision
was too sweeping. It is too difficult, too costly, too impolitic, and requires too long a development
period, for many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, its relation to the data warehouse turns the first pattern of development on its head. Here
multiple data marts are parents to the data warehouse, which evolves from them organically. The third
pattern of development attempts to synthesize and remove the conflict inherent in the first two. Here
data marts are seen as developing in parallel with the data warehouse. Both develop from islands of
information, but data marts don t have to wait for the data warehouse to be implemented. It is enough
that each data mart is guided by the enterprise data model developed for the data warehouse, and is
developed in a manner consistent with this data model. Then the data marts can be finished quickly,
and can be modified later when the enterprise data warehouse is finished. These three patterns of data
mart development have in common a viewpoint that does not explicitly consider the role of user
feedback in the development process. Each view assumes that the relationship between data
warehouses and data marts is relatively static. The data mart is a subset of the data warehouse, or the
data warehouse is an outgrowth of the data marts, or there is parallel development, with the data marts
guided by the data warehouse data model, and ultimately superseded by the data warehouse, which
provides a final answer to the islands of information problem. Whatever view is taken, the role of
users in the dynamics of data warehouse/data

The Medicine Bag, AndApache Girl s Rite Of Passage,
What are the steps to maturity? In the short story, The Medicine Bag , Martin, the main character, and
in the video, Apache Girl s Rite of Passage , Dachina, both have similarities and differences in their
traditions teaching them the significance of maturity. In addition, there are advantages and
disadvantages to either reading the text or watching the video. Initially, there are many similarities that
are valued in Martin s and Dachina s Native American traditions. Mainly, both traditions are about the
topic of life and how Martin and Dachina have to go through a process in order to enter adulthood.
Martin and Dachina learn how to become mature by accepting to keep their cultures alive and willing
to do the responsibilities that each of their traditions provide. For example, the author in The Medicine
Bag states, Thank you, Grandpa, I said softly and left with the bag in my hands. That night Mom and
Dad took Grandpa to the hospital. Two weeks later I stood alone on the lonely prairie of the
reservation and put the sacred sage in my bag. This shows how Martin agreed to complete his duty of
putting the sacred sage into his medicine bag, making him responsible. Besides, Great Grandpa had a
difficult journey, which made Martin respect him and not put down the medicine bag. Similarly,
Dachina didn t reject her family s beliefs, since she completed the ritual and also didn t seem careless.
Moreover, both traditions are alike because they provided Martin and Dachina with

Hills Like White Elephants, By Ernest Hemmingway
In the story Hills Like White Elephants, Ernest Hemmingway allows a superficial plot to symbolically
display a conflict between choice of destination as a couple s discussion between train rides. The
layers of description and dialog manipulate a small moment of time and demonstrate that a human
choice can range while perspective shifts the understood potential of the landscape. By crafting an
intricate story that is filled with symbolism and overlapping complexities, Hemmingway provides a
sophisticated short story that exposes the feelings behind controversial life choices. The story begins
by introducing the side of the valley with no shade and no trees, a forty minute wait time, and the
couple in Spain. The two are described at first as an American and a ... Show more content on

carries the two bags as if anything more would be too much and looks out for a train that hasn t
arrived yet. When asked if she felt better, the girl replies and states that nothing is wrong with her; she
feels fine because pregnancy isn t some problem that needs an abortion to remedy it. Through the
numerous details, Hemmingway creates a short story that reflects the opinions of two very different
opinions. In one case, change is something that is desired, yet in the same relationship, change can be
too consequential to readily accept. The differing nature scenes and the descriptions of characters
created a duality while the setting facilitated symbolism. Overall, the implementation of many factors
and devices created a detailed piece of literature that could explore the different mindsets of the

Mindy And Lenore Script
PART ONE 1 1981 Most really pretty girls have pretty ugly feet, and so does Mindy Metalman,
Lenore notices, all of a sudden. They re long and thin and splay toed, with buttons of yellow callus on
the little toes and a thick stair step of it on the back of the heel, and a few long black hairs are curling
out of the skin at the tops of the feet, and the red nail polish is cracking and peeling in curls and candy
striped with decay. Lenore only notices because Mindy s bent over in the chair by the fridge picking at
some of the polish on her toes; her bathrobe s opening a little, so there s some cleavage visible and
everything, a lot more than Lenore s got, and the thick white towel wrapped around Mindy s wet
washed shampooed head is coming undone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the way people talk without breathing, holding on to the smoke. I know, but it s track season at school
and I m on the team and I don t smoke during the season, I can t, it kills me, Lenore says. So Mindy
shrugs and finally lets out a big breath of pale used up smoke and coughs a deep little cough and gets
up with the bird and takes it over across the room to Clarice and Sue Shaw, who are by a big wooden
stereo speaker listening to this song, again, by Cat Stevens, for like the tenth time tonight. Mindy s
robe s more or less open, now, and Lenore can see some pretty amazing stuff, but Mindy just walks
across the room. Lenore can at this point divide all the girls she s known neatly into girls who think
deep down they re pretty and girls who deep down think they re really not. Girls who think they re

Both Of The Articles I Choose Link Very Closely With One
Both of the articles I choose link very closely with one of the themes we covered in class. Sustainable
planning and green cities. This is a topic I found especially interesting, being from the Portland area it
s something I have been exposed too, but also sustainable development is a career path I have become
interested in. The first article is about the Pearl District in Portland. Although we watched a quick clip
about it I wanted to learn more about how and why the planning and implementation is so
contemporary. According to chapter 11 of Yin, Portland s Pearl District has taken many of the right
steps toward planning for a sustainable city. It has followed the 3 pillars of sustainability which are
Environment, Economy and Equity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These open spaces have natural wildlife habits and show respect to the ecologic responsibility. Lastly
is housing, this I tended to disagree with for the most part. Although the Pearl did develop mostly
mixed use, and multifamily housing the price range is pretty ridiculous. In the PBS video we watching
in class, Rick Gustafson says that 22% of the housing is for low income tenants, if this is true those
apartments must be almost impossible to find. I know personally that the Pearl District is one of the
most expensive places to live in Portland. I don t necessarily think this is wrong or immoral or that
there is social injustice, but the idea that the Pearl District is affordable for many young people is far
fetched. This would be one of the very few ways that the Pearl District does not match Yin s
guidelines for a sustainable city.
The second article is about a town in Sweden that decided to go all out for a eco friendly sustainable
town. Much like the Pearl District, Hammarby Sjöstad was built in an old unused industrial area of
Stockholm. This city, which is home to about 20,000 residents used many of the same techniques that
Yin pointed out, just as the Pearl did. One major highlight of Hammarby Sjostad is its waste recycling
and sorting process. The city uses underground shoots to take waste from each building and sends it to
a main location where the waste is sorted. Some can be recycled and reused, while other bits are
burned and used to heat homes

Pros And Cons Of Human Cloning
The birth of the first cloned mammal, lamb Dolly, shocked the world on 23 February 1997.Soon after
the announcement, the media attention was diverted by the possibility of cloning a human. Although
the scientists from the Roslin Institute who had made the significant breakthrough with Dolly denied
the possibility of creating human clones, the idea was still wide debated about the risks and benefits of
human cloning. So, what is cloning? Cloning is a process of generating a new organism by an
identical genetic copy of the original donor. The DNA of the two organisms will be identical
(Laurențiu, 2012).With the development stage of science, human has been already manufacturing
embryonic stem cells, which is beneficial to medical science such as inventing a new therapy for
serious diseases. In the future, the human would take advantages of the development of reproductive
cloning technology to reproduce the next generation. However, whether human cloning project should
be prohibited or not arouses intense debate among the public because it is unethical and the clone
technology is not perfect yet. In my opinion, human cloning would benefit the humanity, thus, the
research of cloning should be carried out with strict legal protection, and limited to the category of
medical research currently.
Improving the technology of human cloning could bring numerous benefits to human beings. The
most exciting achievement is the success of isolating human embryonic stem cells which inspired

Attitude Towards Love in Valentine and The Flea Essay
Through Close Analysis of Language, Structure and Theme, Compare and
Contrast the Poet s Attitude Towards Love in Valentine and The Flea.
The two poems Valentine and The Flea are about the two different ways in which the poets portray
their views about love, however the poems are still linked in a few ways. The Flea was published in
the seventeenth century and was written by John Donne . Valentine was published in 1983 and was
written by Carol Ann Duffy . Both poems are addressed to an unknown lover.
The poem Valentine is written in free verse form. Carol Ann Duffy could have used this irregular
pattern because of the irregular present that she is giving to her lover.

This could be the link between the onion and love that is being developed in the poem. This is also
one of only four cases of enjambment in this poem. The writer obviously wants the lines to flow into
each other here maybe so it is like when tears are flowing down your face.
Duffy then explores the idea of truth behind the relationship, quite the opposite of what John Donne
believes of in his relationship.
I am trying to be truthful.
The writer obviously wants her lover to know the real meaning of love, not his stereotypical view.
Duffy also wants to emphasise the fact of how irregular her present is and it should be thought of.
Not a cute card or kissogram.
She doesn t want him to receive the normal presents off her; she knows that he would just be
expecting that and he wouldn t even think about the meaning of the normal presents. She wants to
shock her lover with her present to make sure that the he understands the meaning of why she is
giving him a present for Valentine s Day to offer a gift to your true love and emphasise how much you
care about them.
Duffy then repeats the first line of her poem again in the middle of the poem. I give you an onion.
She is repeating the line to emphasise the meaning of the present, or it could be to start a different part
of the poem, a different attitude towards love. Then there is a contrast with a line in the first stanza.

Lab Report On Pglo Transformation
Genetic transformation is a process that occurs when the DNA of a cell is altered by the introduction
of genetic material from a different source, like from another cell or a virus. This process was
discovered in 1928 by Fred Griffith while he was performing an experiment where he injected
different combinations of live and dead strains of Pneumococcus bacteria that was either virulent or
non virulent into mice. When only the dead virulent strain was injected, the mice were unaffected, but
when both the dead virulent and the live non virulent strains were injected, the mice died. This
occurred because an instructional agent passed between the living and dead bacteria, causing the DNA

coli) with a pGLO plasmid, which will cause it to take in and express the Green Fluorescent Protein
(GFP) gene. This gene, which has been encoded into the pGLO plasmid, is found in jellyfish and
causes them to produce the protein that makes them fluorescent green. A plasmid is a circular piece of
DNA found within a prokaryotic that contains certain genes for a trait that can help the prokaryote to
survive. They can also be extracted from prokaryotes and modified to express a desired gene. Bacteria
naturally exchange plasmids, causing them to gain traits from the other and increase their chance of
survival. To integrate plasmids into DNA, restriction enzymes cut the DNA at certain points, creating
sticky ends . Sticky ends are areas of unmatched nucleotide bases that can be attached to
corresponding nucleotide bases. Once the DNA and plasmid have been cut, the sticky ends from both
are attached together so that their nucleotide bases match and are sealed with the enzyme ligase. After
this, the cell can express the gene that the plasmid contains. If the E. coli bacteria successfully take in
the plasmid containing the GFP gene, they will express the protein and become fluorescent green. The
pGLO plasmid also contains a gene called beta lactamase that causes resistance towards the antibiotic
ampicillin. Therefore, if the E. coli bacteria successfully take in the plasmid, they will

God s Message Of Redemption For Mankind
The creation waits eagerly for the sons of God to be revealed; for the creation was made subject to
frustration not willingly, but because of the one who subjected it. But it was given a reliable hope that
it too would be set free from its bondage to decay and would enjoy the freedom accompanying the
glory that God s children will have. We know that until now, the whole creation has been groaning as
with the pains of childbirth; Romans 8:21 22
I ve heard various preachers say that animals cannot go to heaven because they do not have souls.
They further push this thought by pointing out that Jesus died only to save the sinful souls of human
beings. This reveals both a lack of familiarity with the Scriptures and a failure to understand God s
plan.
The Bible is God s message of redemption for mankind, not animal kind. So its pages only hint at His
intention toward animals. It s an easy matter to show that the ultimate destiny of created things,
including the animals, is included in God s eternal purpose and is linked to the redemption of sinful
mankind. Animals are in no need of redemption
While they are effected by the curse of man they are not fallen as man is. When God s judgment
comes down on mankind, animals suffer along with them for their sins. This can be seen not only in
the Flood story of Noah, but foremost in the story of God sending the ten plagues upon the Egyptians
to free the Israelite slaves.

policies. Hidden underneath the manufactured depiction of Reaganomics policies by mass media lies a
controversial observation: these policies may have created a permanent shift in American society

income wage gap between races (primarily white and black) and the wage gap between social classes
(middle class and wealthy) as the number of Americans below the poverty line increased by more than
2 million. Despite its successes on the American economical structure and more significantly, its
benefits for the rich, Reaganomics jeopardized the welfare of Americans of the lower class as Reagan
s administration cut 60% of funding towards social programs that primarily assisted mothers, children,
and minorities like Social Security, Medicaid, Food Stamps, and federal education programs. The
administration also proved to be detrimental to the citizens in the urban area with budget cuts to
federal legal services for the poor as well as decreased funding for public transportation and the
eliminated anti poverty programs such as the Community Development Block program. When Reagan
first came into office, city budgets used over 20 percent of federal funding but towards 1988, it
decreased to 6 percent. The results of these cuts were so destructive that many inner city schools,
public libraries, hospital/clinics, police and fire departments were forced to close down indefinitely.

Construction Machinery Manufacturing ( http://www.census.gov/cgi bin/sssd/naics/naicsrch?

vii. Summary of industry opportunities and threats
John Deere s size and financial strength make new industry entrants and existing competitors not as
much of a factor as you might find with other entities focused on one market. The biggest threats to
them are the weakened global economy and their own ability to continue to produce high quality and
competitively priced equipment.
viii. Implication of strategy development
Again, the key for John Deere is to stick by their code of integrity, and to maintain a supplier network
that follows the same model. The strategy on the production side has to continuously monitor the
various client bases for feedback and to then adjust the product mix and pricing accordingly. This
should keep John Deere in the lead market position for the foreseeable

The Right Influence
Film is a powerful medium to communicate through. Film can also be easily exploited. In the
beginning, the first inventors were not interested in film being a largely entertainment and cultural
phenomena but as a scientific breakthrough. Due to the introduction of film in the nineteenth century,
nationalism recently has been intensified by the increasing globalization of international film and
consequently resulting in totalitarian cinema which later directly reflects international cultures and

As film was introduced to China in the 1920s, China wanted to transform film into an indigenous art
form in the hope of finding a sense of cultural security (Hu 35). China constantly was being

Further analysis in the various Chinese styles of nationalism demonstrates how political parties
affected filmmaking in the 1930s. The Chinese Communist Party and the Kuomintang Part, also called
the Nationalist Party, initiated the Left Wing Film Movement and the Nationalist Film Movement
presented two competing discourses of nationalism. The CCP rendered the class struggle with its
advocacy of nationalism through films while the KMT endorsed the idea of national survival by
advocating Confucian values to maintain Chinese tradition. In both situations, each party claimed that
they represented the interests of the entire nation through filmmaking (Hu 26). With these two parties

Mobile For Youth Legal Services
An interview was conducted with Miss Kessler a legal advocate who has worked at Mobile for Youth
Legal Services for over five years. Mobile for Youth (MFY) legal services is an independent non for
profit organization that provides free legal and advocacy services to the underserved population in
New York City who cannot afford an attorney. MFY maintains a robust practice on a wide range of
civil legal issues such as housing, disability rights, employment and health care benefits, among
others. MFY envisions a society where everyone provides equal opportunity and work towards ending
the causes of inequality. During the interview Miss Kessler has shared that before becoming a lawyer,
she was a caseworker for individuals with mental health issues and a community organizer working
with adults with disability. Ms. Kessler decided to be a legal advocate to help destitute individuals and
resolve their legal issues. In addition, she was inspired to work towards change instead of trying to

citizens critically interrupt the success story narrative about environmental activism in Warren County.
Throughout the course of this reading, we see the residents of Warren County try to come up with a
new conclusion to those narratives, one of which would include environmental cleanup. Additionally,

The Three Witches Are Responsible For Macbeth s Downfall
Naturalist and essayist John Burroughs once said, A man can fail many times, but he isn t a failure
until he begins to blame someone else. Blaming somebody else other than the person who made a
mistake does no good for anybody. If somebody makes a mistake, they should only blame themselves.
Readers of Shakespeare s Macbeth might believe the three witches are responsible for Macbeth s
downfall even though they are not guilty. They only implant the idea of being a king in Macbeth s
head. When Macbeth visits the witches for a second time, they show him visions pushing him along
the fate he already chose. The witches do not advise him to kill his king Duncan, his fellow soldier

Religion And The Civil Rights Movement
The struggle to obtain gay and civil rights has been directly influenced by religion, either in a positive
or negative way. More specifically, religion has served as a disadvantage to achieving gay rights and
an advantage to those that participated in the civil rights movement. Contrary to the recent successes
of the gay rights movement, there have been a lot of obstacles along the way and most of them have
been due to religious beliefs and practices. Religion opposes gay rights, especially gay marriage on the
basis that it immoral and unnatural, it is against the word of God and it is incompatible with religious
beliefs, sacred texts, and traditions of many religious groups(Eskridge,15). On the other hand, religion
more directly influences the outcome of the civil rights movement by providing a basis for unity
among African Americans. The concepts and strategies of the civil rights movement alluded to
Biblical stories and admonitions. The church provided a physical shelter for African Americans to
congregate and organize marches, sit ins and protests, but also a spiritual overlook that guided them to
the freedom that they always deserved. In the 65 year history of LGBTQ activism in the United States,
the present moment stands out on the basis of gay marriage being legalized. At no other time would an
observer have imagined that the LGBTQ movement was likely to succeed in such a manner that any
gender can marry any other gender with the permission by the law (Stewart winter

Egypt Complex Civilization
Ancient Egypt was a complex civilization because it had all of the important society indicators. In the
earlier years the Egyptians spent most of their time as being hunters and gathers. Then once they
settled by the Nile River, they started farming. Once even more people settled in, the population
continued to grow. This is how Egypt became a complex civilization and the seven indicators became
a big part of Egypt.
One way Ancient Egypt was a complex civilization is by having methods of keeping records. The
ancient Egyptians used a writing called hieroglyphs for this indicator. Ancient Egypt had a language

The Benefits Of Renter s Insurance
The Benefits of Renter s Insurance
If you are currently renting a home or apartment, one of the benefits you ve probably noticed is having
the peace of mind that if something breaks, it will be fixed by the landlord or property owner. It can
definitely save you money if something expensive needs to be replaced like a dishwasher or air
conditioner. But what would happen in the event of a fire or break in? If your personal property is
damaged or stolen, the one that is often responsible is the renter. Don t be left holding the bag, here are
four important benefits of Renter s Insurance.
Protect your Property
Obviously, the most apparent benefit of Renter s Insurance is coverage for your property. Many people
who are renting assume that they are covered under their landlord or property owner s insurance. That
is not the case. Their insurance covers their property, not yours. Renter s Insurance covers things like
your clothes, collectables, furniture and electronics. So if these items are damaged in a fire, flood,
tornado, blizzard, etc., you are protected. You are also protected in the unfortunate event that your
property is stolen, and we all know how quickly items like computers, televisions and other expensive
electronics can add up. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Problem Of Gender Discrimination In The Workplace
Discrimination in the Workplace
And each of us can practice rights ourselves, treating each other without discrimination, respecting
each other s rights or dignities (Carol Bellamy). In today s economy, being bias in the workplace is
more than a distraction, it is costly. It is hurting people of different race, ethnicity, age, sex, religion,
and more. Working to stop inequality is something that needs to happen. While some may say that
unfairness helps the economy and puts everyone in the right place, discrimination is prevalent in
world history, and definitely affects the workplaces in the economy and their workers.
Because of what has happened in world history, it is affecting workplace discrimination today.
According to an article written by Donald Mayer called Gender Discrimination, Gender or sex
discrimination in the United States has a long tradition, partaking of a much wider phenomenon of
discrimination against women that is both ancient and global. In many countries, women are still
regarded as the property of men, are denied access to birth control information, are not allowed to
vote, and are prohibited from working with men (Mayer Gender Discrimination ). The U.S. and other
countries have been continuing the act of inequality for a while now. Not only is racial discrimination
an issue in the workplace, but so is gender biases. The female gender is less likely to get a job at a
place they want compared to a male. Workplaces be prejudice against hiring

Analysis Of The Book My Lie
Your Lie in April (四月は君の嘘 Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso) is an anime series based on the manga by
Naoshi Arakawa. The plot follows Kōsei Arima, Kaori Miyazono and Tsubaki Sawabe as they face
teenage problems in love, music, and health.
This anime is by far the most depressing series I have ever watched. It s not just sad, it s depressing. It
s like watching a group of cursed kids going through traumatic events that will likely make them the
most miserable adults possible. The series started with the potential of being one of the great tear
jerkers, but they forgot how to give something resembling happiness to keep the story in the light. At
times, it feels like the story, and the characters, are about to emerge from the shadows, only to be
pulled back deeper, like a swimmer caught in the ocean desperately trying to reach shore as it s swept
further away by each crashing wave. Due to the constant dark nature of the story, I found the scenes
that should have been emotional just blended into the rest of the story, resulting in a story with very
little emotional impact. Although, the final two episodes were so emotional that they cut right through
all that sadness, which should tell you how fantastic they were. But two unforgettable episodes does
make an unforgettable series.
Much of the problem in Your Lie in April stems from the repeated content. Sometimes the beginning
of one episode is the same as the final minutes of the previous episode, with a few alterations. This

Kyoto Protocol And The Protocol
As a basic description the Kyoto Protocol is a document, which legally binds all member countries
that are classified as developed to meet specific emission reduction targets. The protocol brings with it
several Commitment periods , which as the name suggests are periods of time by which member states
are bound to the protocol. The initial commitment period began in 2008 and ceased in 2012. The next
began in 2013 and will end in 2020. Currently there are 192 member states to the protocol. It has been
determined that developed countries are primarily responsible for the current elevated levels of
Greenhouse gases (GHG). The Kyoto Protocol puts heavier goals on the developed countries based on
the idea of differentiated but common responsibilities. The Protocol dictates that there are six primary
Greenhouse gases identified as contributing the most harm to the natural environment, these being:
Methane, Carbon Dioxide, Nitrous Oxide, Hydro fluorocarbons, Per fluorocarbons and Sulfur
Hexafluoride (U.S. EPA, N.D.)
Each nation has their own individual targets. The average target was a cut of roughly 5%, in
comparison to the levels in the atmosphere in 1990 and 2012 (The Guardian, 2012). Some countries
have a different approach to the protocol than others. An example of this is the United States, which is
yet to ratify the protocol and also happens to be the second largest total emitter (second to China) and
largest emitter per capita of greenhouse gases in the world (M.

Comparing The Shaper, Hrothgar, And Beowulf
Oscar Wilde once said, To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all. For some
people, this is true, whereas others squander their time and contribute nothing to society. As for the
three characters in Grendel, The Shaper, Hrothgar, and Beowulf, their lives do have a meaning. The
Shaper provides a solidification between ideas and man; Hrothgar offers a sense of leadership and
ambition to his fellow men and Beowulf proves his is merely a mindless killing machine. The Shaper
and his songs give men a reason to believe their systems such as religion and their history. The first
instance of The Shaper using his songs is when he goes to Hrothgar s mead hall for the first time. He

When Grendel watches Hrothgar first start out, he proves himself to be a great warlord. This happens
after the tree incident where Grendel first encounters human beings. Hrothgar showed what he could
do and how strong his men were. He then sent men to his neighbors every three months or so to gather
tribute from them. He worked out a theory about what fighting was for, and now he no longer fought
with his six closest neighbors (37). This is a necessity of a quality of a good king. He knows how to
gain power quickly. Hrothgar is smart to play to his advantages and bully his neighbors and create an
even bigger army to proclaim himself king eventually. Hrothgar proves to be ambitious. He decides
that as a testament to his greatness and everything he and his men have accomplished, they will build
a meadhall. He would build a magnificent meadhall high on a hill... to stand forever as a sign of the
glory and justice of Hrothgar s Danes (47). Hrothgar s ambition shows to the men that he will cement
a place to remember the great history of the Danes and all they have accomplished. He also possesses
the quality of an excellent negotiator. When his power starts to fade, a king by the name of Hygmod
begins to rise up against Hrothgar. Hrothgar takes his army and goes to Hygmod s hall and confronts
him. Hygmod offers his sister as a peace offering to which Hrothgar accepts. Come,

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Politeness
Politeness Politeness is the practice of good manners or etiquette in communication or behaviour. In

John Steinbeck s Cannery Row
Cannery Row: Living Heaven on Earth
Cannery Row (1945), a novel written by John Steinbeck, Nobel Prize winner for Literature, is a book
without much of a plot. Instead, it s a novel where setting, atmosphere and most importantly character,
take precedence. Steinbeck creates a colorful array of characters struggling to understand their own
unique places in the world.
The story is set in the early 20th century, immediately following the Depression and World War II. The
characters live in Monterey, California amid the jumble of the sardine fisheries, the Palace Flophouses
, Lee Chong s grocery, Dora s whorehouse, and Doc s Biological Lab. Throughout the book, Steinbeck
has the uncanny ability to combine his characters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Steinbeck frequently interrupts the flow of what could be considered the main story line, by throwing
short segments into the writing thus introducing a new character (usually not directly connected to the
primary story) or referencing some sort of cruel occurrence of real life. For example, in chapter twelve
Steinbeck writes about the death of Josh Billings, an author who had come to Monterey. After Billings
death, the doctor dumps his remains into a gulch, where a little boy and his dog later find them. The
little boy, not knowing any better, takes the author s remains to use them for fishing. Upon hearing
this, the town quickly collects all his insides and puts them in a leaden box, which was placed in Josh
Billings coffin.
The purpose of inserting this anecdote was to show the camaraderie and respect of the people in
Cannery Row. At one point in the story, Steinbeck writes, Josh Billings was a great man, a great
writer. He had honored Monterey by dying there and he had been degraded (64 65). Steinbeck
demonstrates that by creating an atmosphere of noble intentions and good feelings for one another,
everyone is able to live in a world of peace even when there are bad times.
Steinbeck spends the greater part of the book writing about a party that Mac and the boys plan to
throw for Doc. The boys believe that since Doc has always been such a nice guy that

Racial Slurs, Words of Hate
Words of Hate Sticks and stones may brake my bones, but words will never hurt me , goes one old
playground rhyme. We are usually taught to ignore a person who uses foul language, but everyone
knows that words can really hurt a person. When someone uses hateful words against us, it can hurt
just as much as a slap or a punch. When people start to use obscenities with ethnic or racial slurs, it
can push some sensitive buttons. Racial slurs used in a joking manner leads to others using it in a
condescending manner, which ultimately leads to violence and feelings of hatred. From my

Romeo And Juliet Character Analysis
A foil is a character that is used to enhance the characteristics of another character (most likely the
story s protagonist) by a clear contrast between the two characters. To help bring the characters in
Romeo and Juliet to life, William Shakespeare creates foils to compare his main characters to and
show why they are better or a better couple in the case of Romeo and Juliet. While some of the foil
characters are obvious, like in the case of Romeo and Paris, or Juliet and Rosaline, in other cases it s
harder to see the contrast and the significance, as in the case of Romeo and Mercutio. The role of the
foil characters in Romeo and Juliet is also to show what could have happened if the protagonists had
made different choices. Throughout Romeo and Juliet it is made clear that Romeo and Paris are foils
as the both are in love Juliet and wish to marry her. However this often leads people to forgetting
about Mercutio and his clear contrast with Romeo. We see their differing opinions clearly in Act 1,
Scene 4, in which Mercutio tries to persuade Romeo to join them in crashing the Capulet s feast.
Romeo takes love very seriously, pining and yearning for Rosaline, while Mercutio treats love as a
joke and something to be wary of. When Romeo says he cannot join them because he feels too heavy

Australia is one of the 146 signatory countries to the United Nations 1951 Convention and or/ 1967
Protocol relating to the status of refugees . (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, 2009)

(Human Rights Law Centre, 2011). It is stated that immigration detention is not used to punish people,
but instead it is administrative function whereby those people do not have a valid visa were detained
and assessed and if proven to be legal they have a rights to stay and if not they will be immediately
removed from the country. The concern is to reconcile what the requirements of the UN and those of
the Migration Act. As at 30 of April 2012 a total of 6716 people were detained in Immigration
detaining centres and 1019 of them are children that are parentless. An individual can be detained for a
few days, months or even longer. (Department of Immigration and Citizenship, 2011)
In May 2004 the then immigration spokesperson, now Prime Minster Julia Gillard, said that Labor
will end the so called Pacific Solution the processing and detaining of Asylum seekers on Pacific
islands because it is costly, unsustainable and wrong as a matter of principle . Back then Labor party
closed down the Nauru centre and processed all asylum seekers onshore and at Christmas Island. And
now the Labor Party is implementing the pacific solution again and it is also known that
unaccompanied children and minors are being sent offshore to process their papers. With the new

Descriptive Essay About Oro Restaurant
Oro Beach Houses and Restaurant: Bungalows In A Secluded Heaven
Are you an adventurer and like to travel to remote and mysterious places on earth like Sumba island in
Indonesia? Located in the far south of Indonesian archipelago (400 km southeast of Bali), the island is
known for its beautiful waterfalls and beaches with very few human visitors. It is also known for the
unique traditions of the island s tribe (simply called Sumba tribe) like Pasola festival where some men
try to win the contest by throwing a blunt pole to one another from some distance on a horse. Despite
its remoteness, surprisingly you can find several decent accommodations on the island, and Oro Beach
Houses and Restaurant is among them.
Oro beach
Oro Beach Houses and Restaurant is located at a beach named Oro. This beach is one of the most
beautiful but rarely visited beaches, located in the southwestern part of the island. It has whiter sand
than beaches in Bali. However, there is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You can swim, jog or collect seashells. However, snorkeling is the activity you can not miss as the
underwater life here is beautiful. You will see one of the most untouched coral lives on earth. All
corals here dance in the water, meaning they are alive! See beautiful colorful small fishes swimming
in and out of the corals.
A lodging in the middle of nowhere
Oro beach is truly a remote beach away from modernity. The closest town, Tambolaka, where the
airport is located and where you can find simple shops and modest dining places is 45 minute drive
from the beach (it s only 20 km away, but you reach the town in 45 minutes due to the mud road along
the way). No hand phone and TV signal and internet connection can be accessed from here. So, if you
dream of a secluded and empty beach in the middle of nowhere, but want someone to cook for you
and stay in a decent lodging, Oro Beach Houses and Restaurant is definitely the place to

The Blind Side Similarities Between Of Mice And Men
The Blind Side vs. Of Mice and Men The Blind Side and Of Mice and Men are very similar and
different. Some main themes in the movie and story are friendship, loneliness, and contrasted by
powerlessness. In both pieces friendship is shown through their actions and dialog. In The Blind Side
Michael, S.J., and his family are best friends. In Of Mice and Men George and Lennie are best friends.
One quote that proves George and Lennie are best friends is We travel together. We are friends (pg.6).
This quote proves multiple things like they travel together and in the book George and Lennie travel a
lot and do everything together, just like best friends. The quote that proves S.J, his family and Michael
are all friends are If you

My Experience With My Family Trips
Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better was an outlook I found within
my research for this trip (Einstein). Family trips are always an interesting experience and sometimes
hard to understand. Between the arguing and stress of packing, my family finds a way to get on the
road quite often. However, the next trip planned arose a new level of anxiety. Until this trip, I have
never traveled to a place far from society and slept within the pure darkness of the night. The
adrenaline rush of hunting to find a safe space for shelter, hanging a bear bag, and climbing the cliffs
of Red River Gorge was an experience I did not expect; however, my father, brother, two other family
friends, and I conquered this expedition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Spring break came faster than I imagined, and we were soon on the road to nowhere. The trip became
more nerve racking as we made our last stop with civilization at the park ranger s office. The ranger
was very hopeful that we would not run into too many issues within our trip, however, I was not. He
made it clear that we must take all bear precautions, even though he attempted to convince us there
were no bears in the area. He also made it clear we must find high ground for camp due to weather
concerns. Listening to his safety speech made me regret committing to this adventure.
After gathering our packs and a map from the office, we approached the first trail. My shoes were tied,
my pack was on securely, and I realized what we were actually about to do. The first couple of miles
seemed easy because the trail was wide and the elevation was only increasing slowly. By the fourth
mile, the trip began to change. My ten year old brother and his friend became tired and the elevation
was dramatically increasing. The small wide hills became steep, narrow rocks. Scott took the lead to
find safe footwork. This is when I regretted the forty pound backpack. Using Scott s hand and a tree
limb I pulled myself up an almost four foot tall rock and then another. I turned around to look back at
the rest of the group and realized I was only a couple inches away from falling off an eighteen foot
drop.

Jennifer Grotz s Medium
In the poem Medium, Jennifer Grotz utilizes various examples of selective memory, phallic symbols,
and yonic symbols to demonstrate a man raping a girl and ultimately leading to the realization of his
mistake and evidently his suicide. She describes the situation in which she is being contacted by the
man who raped her, and uses hidden language to compare her unwilling experience with him and his
attempt at suicide. It is obvious that Grotz belittles the intruder s suicide by speaking in an ironic,
nonchalant tone due to the fact that she does not care if he dies because of what he did to her. The
word medium has multiple definitions including a clairvoyant and the plural of media. The
significance of the word clairvoyant, someone who speaks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

She tells the story in a nonchalant type of manner which is very ironic because it is often a serious and
saddening topic to discuss. Due to the fact that Grotz is speaking in a casual manner, it can be
interpreted that she does not care that much about his loss. The only way she knows about his first
attempt at suicide because she found it written in his journal (21). This can really mean he actually had
a journal and she read it but pertaining to the subject of medium , the plural of media, it can also be a
symbol for the newspaper. The reason he might have thrown himself off a bridge, into the cold dirty
Willamette might be because he finally realized the mistake he made by emailing her that night and
having sexual relations with her disregarding her choice

  • 2. Use of Violence in Beloved by Toni Morrison Essay As much as society does not want to admit, violence serves as a form of entertainment. In media today, violence typically has no meaning. Literature, movies, and music, saturated with violence, enter the homes of millions everyday. On the other hand, in Beloved, a novel by Toni Morrison, violence contributes greatly to the overall work. The story takes place during the age of the enslavement of African Americans for rural labor in plantations. Sethe, the proud and noble protagonist, has suffered a great deal at the hand of schoolteacher. The unfortunate and seemingly inevitable events that occur in her life, fraught with violence and heartache, tug at the reader s heart strings. The wrongdoings Sethe endures are significant to the meaning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One may argue that she does not display much emotion while killing her children, she unquestionably resembles a lunatic. Without this vital scene, Beloved would lack the utterly shocking element that such violence provides. People want to immerse themselves into stories about lunatics, emerge in the drama, and sympathize with the dire pain Sethe feels. Violent scenes, among other elements, allow for this to occur in a novel. Destruction of identity, another theme of the novel, relates to the violent scenes. In the second part of Beloved, Sethe takes a stand and expresses her feeling on the violent acts being performed on her. Nobody will ever get my milk no more except my own children. I never had to give it to nobody else and the one time I did it was took from me they held me down and took it. Milk that belonged to my baby (Morrison 200). Sethe finally comes to terms with her past and vows to never let such a horrendous act happen to her again. Beloved s reincarnation occurs because Sethe needs to face her dark past head on and free herself from living in shame. It took time, but, Sethe eventually overcomes the odds and begins to live freely and peacefully in her house. Morrison bases Sethe s character off of real life murderer, Margaret Garner. Morrison leaves few of the important elements of the story the same and alters others. Why did Morrison go through the trouble of writing Beloved? She did not write it for ... From this fear, society has learned much about cults, how they get members and what to look out for as far as cult recruiters go. Society as a whole has also learned what can be done to deal with cults. Through police investigation, it was discovered that the murders were cult related. Charles Manson and members of his cult, known as The Family, were to blame. Manson and family lived on a ranch in California. Manson was an avid fan of The Beatles and believed that this rock band spoke to him though their lyrics. He particularly liked The Beatles White Album which included the song Helter Skelter. Manson interpreted this song s lyrics as a prophecy of a race war that would take place between the blacks and the whites. In this war, he believed the black man would rise up and slaughter all of the whites. So Manson s plan was to take his family out into the desert and hide in a bottomless pit until the war was over. After the war, he believed the blacks would realize all they ever knew was taught to them by the white man, and if they wanted to survive, they would need a white person to tell them what to do. That is when Manson and his Family would surface from the bottomless pit, and be the rulers of the world as the master race (Bugliosi, 1974, 284 290). The only problem with Manson s prophecy was that Helter Skelter never came. So he sent Family members out to kill Sharon Tate and friends and instructed them to make it appear as if the blacks ... • 7. Argumentative Essay On Forensic Evidence In 1984, a British geneticist named Alec Jeffreys stumbled upon one of our most important forensic tools: DNA fingerprinting. Since his eureka moment, the scientific technique has been used successfully to identify perpetrators of a crime, clarify paternity and exonerate people wrongly convicted (Jones). DNA evidence, specifically simple mixture, is the most accurate type of forensic evidence we currently have at our disposal, but even it is not infallible. Other types of forensic evidence are much less accurate, but unfortunately their use is still permitted in U.S courtrooms. Jurors may be misled by experts within the courtroom as well. These misconceptions about the accuracy of forensic science and the field in general lead to many problems in the courtroom. The most reliable type of forensic evidence is DNA, but it is still not perfect, and the results should be portrayed that way in court. The reason DNA evidence is so accurate is because it is highly objective. This objectivity makes it far less likely that an error will be made during the analysis of the DNA sample. However, errors are still possible. For example, samples may be switched or contaminated which could give a false result. There are two different kinds of DNA evidence, simple mixture/single source samples and complex mixture samples. The vast majority of DNA analysis currently involves samples from a single individual or from a simple mixture of two individuals (such as from a rape kit) . . . the ... Moreover, its relation to the data warehouse turns the first pattern of development on its head. Here multiple data marts are parents to the data warehouse, which evolves from them organically. The third pattern of development attempts to synthesize and remove the conflict inherent in the first two. Here data marts are seen as developing in parallel with the data warehouse. Both develop from islands of information, but data marts don t have to wait for the data warehouse to be implemented. It is enough that each data mart is guided by the enterprise data model developed for the data warehouse, and is developed in a manner consistent with this data model. Then the data marts can be finished quickly, and can be modified later when the enterprise data warehouse is finished. These three patterns of data mart development have in common a viewpoint that does not explicitly consider the role of user feedback in the development process. Each view assumes that the relationship between data warehouses and data marts is relatively static. The data mart is a subset of the data warehouse, or the data warehouse is an outgrowth of the data marts, or there is parallel development, with the data marts guided by the data warehouse data model, and ultimately superseded by the data warehouse, which provides a final answer to the islands of information problem. In addition, there are advantages and disadvantages to either reading the text or watching the video. Initially, there are many similarities that are valued in Martin s and Dachina s Native American traditions. Mainly, both traditions are about the topic of life and how Martin and Dachina have to go through a process in order to enter adulthood. Martin and Dachina learn how to become mature by accepting to keep their cultures alive and willing to do the responsibilities that each of their traditions provide. For example, the author in The Medicine Bag states, Thank you, Grandpa, I said softly and left with the bag in my hands. That night Mom and Dad took Grandpa to the hospital. Two weeks later I stood alone on the lonely prairie of the reservation and put the sacred sage in my bag. This shows how Martin agreed to complete his duty of putting the sacred sage into his medicine bag, making him responsible. Besides, Great Grandpa had a difficult journey, which made Martin respect him and not put down the medicine bag. By crafting an intricate story that is filled with symbolism and overlapping complexities, Hemmingway provides a sophisticated short story that exposes the feelings behind controversial life choices. This is a topic I found especially interesting, being from the Portland area it s something I have been exposed too, but also sustainable development is a career path I have become interested in. The first article is about the Pearl District in Portland. Although we watched a quick clip about it I wanted to learn more about how and why the planning and implementation is so contemporary. According to chapter 11 of Yin, Portland s Pearl District has taken many of the right steps toward planning for a sustainable city. It has followed the 3 pillars of sustainability which are Environment, Economy and Equity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the Pearl did develop mostly mixed use, and multifamily housing the price range is pretty ridiculous. In the PBS video we watching in class, Rick Gustafson says that 22% of the housing is for low income tenants, if this is true those apartments must be almost impossible to find. I know personally that the Pearl District is one of the most expensive places to live in Portland. I don t necessarily think this is wrong or immoral or that there is social injustice, but the idea that the Pearl District is affordable for many young people is far fetched. The second article is about a town in Sweden that decided to go all out for a eco friendly sustainable town. Much like the Pearl District, Hammarby Sjöstad was built in an old unused industrial area of Stockholm. This city, which is home to about 20,000 residents used many of the same techniques that Yin pointed out, just as the Pearl did. In the future, the human would take advantages of the development of reproductive cloning technology to reproduce the next generation. However, whether human cloning project should be prohibited or not arouses intense debate among the public because it is unethical and the clone technology is not perfect yet. In my opinion, human cloning would benefit the humanity, thus, the research of cloning should be carried out with strict legal protection, and limited to the category of medical research currently. Improving the technology of human cloning could bring numerous benefits to human beings. The most exciting achievement is the success of isolating human embryonic stem cells which inspired ... This gene, which has been encoded into the pGLO plasmid, is found in jellyfish and causes them to produce the protein that makes them fluorescent green. A plasmid is a circular piece of DNA found within a prokaryotic that contains certain genes for a trait that can help the prokaryote to survive. They can also be extracted from prokaryotes and modified to express a desired gene. Bacteria naturally exchange plasmids, causing them to gain traits from the other and increase their chance of survival. To integrate plasmids into DNA, restriction enzymes cut the DNA at certain points, creating sticky ends . Sticky ends are areas of unmatched nucleotide bases that can be attached to corresponding nucleotide bases. Once the DNA and plasmid have been cut, the sticky ends from both are attached together so that their nucleotide bases match and are sealed with the enzyme ligase. After this, the cell can express the gene that the plasmid contains. If the E. coli bacteria successfully take in the plasmid containing the GFP gene, they will express the protein and become fluorescent green. God s Message Of Redemption For Mankind The creation waits eagerly for the sons of God to be revealed; for the creation was made subject to frustration not willingly, but because of the one who subjected it. But it was given a reliable hope that it too would be set free from its bondage to decay and would enjoy the freedom accompanying the glory that God s children will have. We know that until now, the whole creation has been groaning as with the pains of childbirth; Romans 8:21 22 I ve heard various preachers say that animals cannot go to heaven because they do not have souls. They further push this thought by pointing out that Jesus died only to save the sinful souls of human beings. This reveals both a lack of familiarity with the Scriptures and a failure to understand God s plan. The Bible is God s message of redemption for mankind, not animal kind. So its pages only hint at His intention toward animals. It s an easy matter to show that the ultimate destiny of created things, including the animals, is included in God s eternal purpose and is linked to the redemption of sinful mankind. Animals are in no need of redemption While they are effected by the curse of man they are not fallen as man is. When God s judgment comes down on mankind, animals suffer along with them for their sins. The rhetorical efforts shown by these advocates vigorously urged the state of North Carolina to clean up a local toxic landfill caused by a truck illegally dumping oil contaminated with PCBs in the middle of the night. 2.) To start with, Pezzullo successfully demonstrates how citizens critically interrupt the success story narrative about environmental activism in Warren County. Throughout the course of this reading, we see the residents of Warren County try to come up with a new conclusion to those narratives, one of which would include environmental cleanup. Readers of Shakespeare s Macbeth might believe the three witches are responsible for Macbeth s downfall even though they are not guilty. They only implant the idea of being a king in Macbeth s head. • 27. Religion And The Civil Rights Movement The struggle to obtain gay and civil rights has been directly influenced by religion, either in a positive or negative way. More specifically, religion has served as a disadvantage to achieving gay rights and an advantage to those that participated in the civil rights movement. Contrary to the recent successes of the gay rights movement, there have been a lot of obstacles along the way and most of them have been due to religious beliefs and practices. Religion opposes gay rights, especially gay marriage on the basis that it immoral and unnatural, it is against the word of God and it is incompatible with religious beliefs, sacred texts, and traditions of many religious groups(Eskridge,15). On the other hand, religion more directly influences the outcome of the civil rights movement by providing a basis for unity among African Americans. The concepts and strategies of the civil rights movement alluded to Biblical stories and admonitions. The church provided a physical shelter for African Americans to congregate and organize marches, sit ins and protests, but also a spiritual overlook that guided them to the freedom that they always deserved. In the 65 year history of LGBTQ activism in the United States, the present moment stands out on the basis of gay marriage being legalized. The plot follows Kōsei Arima, Kaori Miyazono and Tsubaki Sawabe as they face teenage problems in love, music, and health. This anime is by far the most depressing series I have ever watched. It s not just sad, it s depressing. It s like watching a group of cursed kids going through traumatic events that will likely make them the most miserable adults possible. The series started with the potential of being one of the great tear jerkers, but they forgot how to give something resembling happiness to keep the story in the light. At times, it feels like the story, and the characters, are about to emerge from the shadows, only to be pulled back deeper, like a swimmer caught in the ocean desperately trying to reach shore as it s swept further away by each crashing wave. Due to the constant dark nature of the story, I found the scenes that should have been emotional just blended into the rest of the story, resulting in a story with very little emotional impact. Although, the final two episodes were so emotional that they cut right through all that sadness, which should tell you how fantastic they were. But two unforgettable episodes does make an unforgettable series. Much of the problem in Your Lie in April stems from the repeated content. Kyoto Protocol And The Protocol As a basic description the Kyoto Protocol is a document, which legally binds all member countries that are classified as developed to meet specific emission reduction targets. The initial commitment period began in 2008 and ceased in 2012. The next began in 2013 and will end in 2020. Currently there are 192 member states to the protocol. It has been determined that developed countries are primarily responsible for the current elevated levels of Greenhouse gases (GHG). The Kyoto Protocol puts heavier goals on the developed countries based on the idea of differentiated but common responsibilities. The Protocol dictates that there are six primary Greenhouse gases identified as contributing the most harm to the natural environment, these being: Methane, Carbon Dioxide, Nitrous Oxide, Hydro fluorocarbons, Per fluorocarbons and Sulfur Hexafluoride (U.S. EPA, N.D.) Each nation has their own individual targets. The average target was a cut of roughly 5%, in comparison to the levels in the atmosphere in 1990 and 2012 (The Guardian, 2012). Steinbeck frequently interrupts the flow of what could be considered the main story line, by throwing short segments into the writing thus introducing a new character (usually not directly connected to the primary story) or referencing some sort of cruel occurrence of real life. For example, in chapter twelve Steinbeck writes about the death of Josh Billings, an author who had come to Monterey. After Billings death, the doctor dumps his remains into a gulch, where a little boy and his dog later find them. The little boy, not knowing any better, takes the author s remains to use them for fishing. Upon hearing this, the town quickly collects all his insides and puts them in a leaden box, which was placed in Josh Billings coffin. The purpose of inserting this anecdote was to show the camaraderie and respect of the people in Cannery Row. At one point in the story, Steinbeck writes, Josh Billings was a great man, a great writer. He had honored Monterey by dying there and he had been degraded (64 65). Steinbeck demonstrates that by creating an atmosphere of noble intentions and good feelings for one another, everyone is able to live in a world of peace even when there are bad times. Romeo And Juliet Character Analysis A foil is a character that is used to enhance the characteristics of another character (most likely the story s protagonist) by a clear contrast between the two characters. To help bring the characters in Romeo and Juliet to life, William Shakespeare creates foils to compare his main characters to and show why they are better or a better couple in the case of Romeo and Juliet. While some of the foil characters are obvious, like in the case of Romeo and Paris, or Juliet and Rosaline, in other cases it s harder to see the contrast and the significance, as in the case of Romeo and Mercutio. The role of the foil characters in Romeo and Juliet is also to show what could have happened if the protagonists had made different choices. Throughout Romeo and Juliet it is made clear that Romeo and Paris are foils as the both are in love Juliet and wish to marry her. However this often leads people to forgetting about Mercutio and his clear contrast with Romeo. We see their differing opinions clearly in Act 1, Scene 4, in which Mercutio tries to persuade Romeo to join them in crashing the Capulet s feast. • 47. My Experience With My Family Trips Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better was an outlook I found within my research for this trip (Einstein). Family trips are always an interesting experience and sometimes hard to understand. Between the arguing and stress of packing, my family finds a way to get on the road quite often. However, the next trip planned arose a new level of anxiety. Until this trip, I have never traveled to a place far from society and slept within the pure darkness of the night. The adrenaline rush of hunting to find a safe space for shelter, hanging a bear bag, and climbing the cliffs of Red River Gorge was an experience I did not expect; however, my father, brother, two other family friends, and I conquered this expedition ... The trip became more nerve racking as we made our last stop with civilization at the park ranger s office. The ranger was very hopeful that we would not run into too many issues within our trip, however, I was not. My ten year old brother and his friend became tired and the elevation was dramatically increasing. The small wide hills became steep, narrow rocks. Scott took the lead to find safe footwork. This is when I regretted the forty pound backpack. Using Scott s hand and a tree limb I pulled myself up an almost four foot tall rock and then another. I turned around to look back at the rest of the group and realized I was only a couple inches away from falling off an eighteen foot drop. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Jennifer Grotz s Medium In the poem Medium, Jennifer Grotz utilizes various examples of selective memory, phallic symbols, and yonic symbols to demonstrate a man raping a girl and ultimately leading to the realization of his mistake and evidently his suicide. She describes the situation in which she is being contacted by the man who raped her, and uses hidden language to compare her unwilling experience with him and his attempt at suicide. It is obvious that Grotz belittles the intruder s suicide by speaking in an ironic, nonchalant tone due to the fact that she does not care if he dies because of what he did to her. The word medium has multiple definitions including a clairvoyant and the plural of media. The significance of the word clairvoyant, someone who speaks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She tells the story in a nonchalant type of manner which is very ironic because it is often a serious and saddening topic to discuss. Due to the fact that Grotz is speaking in a casual manner, it can be interpreted that she does not care that much about his loss. The only way she knows about his first attempt at suicide because she found it written in his journal (21). This can really mean he actually had a journal and she read it but pertaining to the subject of medium , the plural of media, it can also be a symbol for the newspaper. The reason he might have thrown himself off a bridge, into the cold dirty Willamette might be because he finally realized the mistake he made by emailing her that night and having sexual relations with her disregarding her choice ...
