Theme Of Petruchio In The Taming Of The Shrew
The Secret To Wed A Shrew Lust, wealth, and pride are undoubtedly insatiable. They are an impetus
that drives one to embark on a challenging quest. However, when individuals become obsessed with
them, they may even turn them into a villain. In William Shakespeare s The Taming Of The Shrew,
Petruchio is the villain that has all these insatiable curiosities. A male chauvinist, he is a boisterous
nobleman from Verona who pursues Katherine even though he knows that she is fiery and obnoxious.
Despite her notoriety, he is not deterred by her egregious disposition because what he wants is her
dowry. By being manipulative, corrupt, and audacious, Petruchio is able to win Katherine s heart as
well as her wealth. Petruchio is able to get closer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
ii. 53 62). By analyzing this dialogue, it becomes apparent that Petruchio only cares about wealth and
power, no matter how shrewish and unattractive his future wife may be. Further evidence that proves
that Petruchio only cares about Katherine s dowry is during the wedding feast, Petruchio announces:
Gentlemen and friends, I thank you for you I know you think to dine with me today And have
prepared great store of wedding cheer, But so it is, my haste doth call me hence, And therefore here I
mean to take my leave (III ii 157 161). This seals the fact that Petruchio does not love Katherine at all,
as clearly, there are seemingly more important things to him than celebrating his own marriage.
Hence, Petruchio s corruption for wealth is the only factor that drives him to marrying Katherine, as
he doesn t actually care about Katherine herself. Finally, the reason why Petruchio is able to complete
his plans is because of his audacious nature. His unrefined personality allows him to speak freely and
ask disrespectful questions in order to deceive people and grasp the situation in hand. This is evident
when Petruchio bluntly asks Baptista: Then tell me, if I get your daughter s love,

What Is Demand Model Of Supply And Demand
Supply and demand is a model for understanding the determination of the price of quantity of a good
sold on the market. The explanation works by looking at two different groups buyers and sellers and
asking how they interrelate. The supply and demand model relies on a high level of competition,
meaning that bidding can only take place if there is a high amount of buyers and sellers in the market.
Buyers bid against each other and thus raise the price, while sellers bid against each other and thus
lower the price. The equilibrium is a point at which all the bidding has been done; nobody has a
reason to offer higher prices or accept lower prices. In this essay I will be critically analysing the
supply/demand model in understanding actual world supply, demand and market behaviour. I will
highlight this through the aid of diagrams and examples. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This model will work most accurately when there is perfect competition. Perfect competition arises
when consumers and producers of a product are price takers. This means they have no power to
influence the market price. However, this is not a realistic proposal because no market is going to be
perfectly competitive. Although the supply demand framework still gives a good estimate for what is
happening in the market most of the time.
To an economists demand refers to both the willingness and ability to pay for a good. When the price
of a good falls, the quantity demanded will fall. This applies to both individuals and whole market
demand. This is known as the law of demand. The relationship between Quantity Demanded (Qd) and
price can be shown in a table (curve). Price is located on the vertical axis and demand is located on the
horizontal. The demand curve will have a negative

The Service System At The Local Tim Hortons Branch
This project involves the study and analysis of the service system at the local Tim Hortons branch.
The goal of the project is to optimize the service process with the purpose of minimizing the service
time. There has been an ever growing emphasis on service speed and work efficiency in the last
century and people have come to expect fast service. It is therefore, paramount that Tim Hortons meet
and perhaps exceed the expectations of its customers by providing them with the fastest service
possible. The Tim Hortons site being studied is located in downtown Toronto which is a very busy
area and therefore the branch experiences very high activity most of the day. To account for the high
arrival rate, the site has provided 4 cashiers to take ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The initial issue that was noticed after many hours of observing the systems operations were that the
service times for the customers were too lengthy. Especially during the peak times of 9am 12pm.
Customers were observed to be in the system for an average of 11.82 minutes. Although there were
four servers at this location only two of them were actively in use. This is due to the fact that the
customers would only line up in front of the two middle servers leaving the other two servers empty.
Causing the servers to constantly have to ask the customers to move over to the other queues, causing
the overall time in the system to be much greater than it should be.
This project aims to demonstrate how the service of the facility is capable of providing fast service if
all four servers were actively in use, to investigate the reason why the customers are not lining up with
the other servers and finally how to improve the design of the facility in order to allow the customers
to actually make use of the other two servers at the facility.
Queueing models will be set up comparing the service time results when 4 servers are actively in use
as opposed to the service time when only 2 of the servers are being used.
The following table shows the data collected for 57 customers from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. From the
table, the total queueing time is 460 minutes and the average queueing time is 8.07 minutes. The total
service time is 214

Schumann and the Kinderszenen
Schumann and the Kinderszenen Robert Schumann, composer throughout the early to mid nineteenth
century, is probably best known for his songs and piano works. Before injuring his finger most likely
through the use of a chiroplast (an instrument that guides the hands while playing; highly
controversial), Schumann was an avid piano player, if not a proper concert pianist and virtuoso[1]. But
due to this ailing finger, Schumann had to eventually find other means to support his life. Thankfully
for us, he eventually turned to composition, and furthermore, to piano composition. His affinity for
piano led to some of the best character pieces for piano ever created, including the piano cycles
Papillon, Carnaval, and Kreisleriana. But these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Koßmaly continues by saying that through the truth of description, [and] the naturalness of the
coloration Kinderszenen achieves cohesiveness.[7] But also, it is worth noting that the repetition of
certain themes, including the melody in the opening line of the cycle from Von fremden Landern und
Menschen (Figure 2), also play a role in connecting individual movements despite the stylistic
differences between them.[8] [pic] It is this cohesiveness that plays a vital role in the immersion of the
listener into the music, and therefore ultimately determined the public success of the piece. Unlike
many of Schumann s earlier piano cycles, Kinderszenen received quite a favorable public reception. In
fact, it was Schumann s most financially successful collection to date, which was especially important
since at that time he was attempting to prove himself both professionally and financially to Friedrich
Wieck, Clara s father, so he could marry Clara. This success may have been a result of the differences
made between the Kinderszenen and his previous works as outlined above, but perhaps also the
favorable reception may have been a result of Schumann s return to simplistic forms and ideas instead
of over complicating his

Maximum Phonational Frequency Range Case Studies
Maximum Phonational Frequency Range (MPFR) is described as the maximum range of phonation
between a client s lowest modal/chest register tone and highest loft tone/falsetto register. The MPFR is
typically determined by using a pitch matching procedure. Ms. Noid will be instructed to sustain a
vowel (i.e. /a/) matching the pitch of a presented tone (i.e. sine wave). She will start phonation at a
comfortable frequency level, and will incrementally increase her frequency range production, until she
can no longer sustain phonation. Then, Ms. Noid will be instructed to incrementally decrease her
frequency range until her modal phonation can no longer be sustained.
The rationale for using an MPFR measure is to explore the physical condition of the phonatory
mechanism. Furthermore, it is a way to quantify the client s frequency variability, measured through
an entire range of frequencies (i.e. highest to lowest), which are produced with maximal effort.
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ms. Noid will have a constrained phonational frequency range of approximately 1 2 octaves,
reflecting a physiological limitation and impaired vocal mechanism, due to a unilateral vocal fold
paralysis. She will be unable to transition between low to high frequency ranges, and exhibit a vocal
quality characterized as breathy and hoarse.
3. Frequency Perturbation (jitter) is an indicator of the stability of phonation. It is a measurement of
cycle to cycle variability in fundamental frequency. Typically, results are acquired from a three second
mid segment sample of a sustained phonation task, avoiding phonatory onset and offset. Fundamental
frequency and intensity values should be specified since they vary, affecting the Frequency
Perturbation (jitter) values.
The rationale for measuring jitter is that it provides objective measures for distinguishing a normal
from a disordered voice, and estimates vocal

Of Mice And Men Book Report Essay
The fiction book that I chose for my summer reading was Of Mice and Men . When I was given the
list of fiction books, I went on good reads dot com and looked up all the books on the fiction list. Of
Mice and Men really caught my eye because it was a book about two friends going through tough
times, which always has a deeper meaning of friendship. Once I chose Of Mice and Men I picked it up
at my local library. The book was exceptionally simple to read and my understanding of every page
was straightforward. It only took me a week to read. Prior to reading the book I knew it would be
about two migrant workers that were struggling with making ends meet in hard times
(Goodread.com). The only preconceived notion I thought was going to happen was when Lennie and
George were chased out of a town named Weed because of Lennie s actions, when ... Show more

The story takes place in rural California with the two main characters Lennie and George (Steinbeck).
George is a tiny, lean and sharp featured man who takes care of his friend Lennie (Steinbeck). Lennie
is enormous and awkward with a mental disability that stirs the duo in all sorts of trouble (Steinbeck).
To keep things simple this book is about two friends that need each other to survive in a time where no
one cares about anybody. They flee a town because of Lennie s actions and end up finding work on a
ranch, where they are introduced to many new characters (Steinbeck). Time gets suspenseful at the
ranch and in the end Lennie s gets into more trouble and ultimately dies in the end (Steinbeck). My
favorite character in Of Mice and Men was George because he is a genuine character who is smart and
takes care of Lennie with his mental disability. The beginning, middle and end of the book were very
different. In the beginning, it started of subtle and showed off the heartwarming relationship of George
and Lennie. In the middle it

This paper explains the importance of having a new approach towards competitive strategies due to
the changes in the elements that determine the industry competition in agribusiness sector.
Most of the research on the usage of Information Systems in Agribusiness doesn t focus on the
coordination issues. Take Porter s Value Chain concept as an example for this. It doesn t focus on the
role that technology plays in improving coordination among market players. Rather, it focuses on how
information technologies can be made use of to lower the costs, differentiating the products and/or
increasing the barriers for entering. Konsynski and McFarlan are researching on competitiveness to
link coordination and Information Technology issues. The explored different information partnerships
among market players, by focusing on the non food sector, which allows efficient and productive
coordination. In this paper, Streeter and Hudson applied this Konsynski McFarlan framework to the
agribusiness and food sector to identify various partnerships.
As noted by Ed McMillan, CEO of Purina Mills, for the first time in the history of American
agriculture, the end consumer is driving the entire food chain. Not the packers or producers . In other
words, today s Agribusiness sector is considered as a Consumer Oriented sector. Not a Commodity

Introduction
Allow me to introduce to you the next Governor of the great state of Texas, Jane Bitzi Johnson Miller.
Bitzi is a proud native Texan born in Odessa, Texas and is the granddaughter of former Governor of
Texas Joe Big Daddy Johnson. She grew up on her family s cattle ranch near Pecos, Texas. There she
learned the value of a hard days work, that family comes first, a man is only as good as his word, and
a firm handshake still goes a long way. After graduating from Pecos High School as Valedictorian

Specifically the Panhandle, North Central, the Hill Country, East and, in particular, her home region of
West Texas much like Rick Perry did back in 2010. (Stiles, 2010) All areas are Republican heavy
albeit with a few outposts of Democratic heavy counties scattered about. Also like Perry her weakness
will be the areas along the border, major metropolitan centers of San Antonio, Houston, Dallas and
traditionally Travis County. (Stiles, 2010) Studies have been done that show Texas falls somewhere in
the middle of traditionalistic and individualistic political cultures. Historically, as Texas was a slave
holding state and a member of the Confederacy, it s political culture was planted firmly in
traditionalism. However, Texas with it s strong pro business orientation getting larger every year tends
to blend individualism with it s original culture of traditionalism. (Newell, Prindle, Riddlesperger,

as a business woman, and her stand on not raising existing or creating new taxes.. She will appeal to

Women in Sports 19th and 20th Century
Jen Pearlstein December 2, 2010 Kin 305 Women in Sports 19th and 20th Century Women s
participation in sports has changed over the centuries. In ancient times, men dominated societies.
Women were viewed as the caretaker, a provider for life. Women who did participate were criticized
and were thought of as threatening. In 18th century America, women were considered inferior to men
because of the belief that women are the weaker sex. A woman s purpose in life was to take care of the
house, children, and husband. When they did want to participate in recreational sport, they need to be
able to negotiate with men and with other women because societies did not make it easy for women to
participate. For example, there was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This led to the formation of organizations like the national committee on Women s Sports, to provide
rules and standards for athletic participation for women and girls. The AAU, Amateur Athletic Union,
which was under the control of men, took control over women s athletics. This stirred up conflict
amongst physical educators and other leaders like, Lou Henry Hoover, Blanche Thrilling, and Agnes
Wayman who opposed the AAU control and wanted women to govern the organization not men. They
were against it because only women could understand the psychological, motivational, and
physiological need for women. (Costa Guthrie, 91) Lou Henry Hoover was the leader of the National
Amateur Athletic Federation, which was an organization that supported sport for everyone. She
wanted to have a separate Women s division because of the different ideal standards of women s sport;
and so was formed the women s division of the NAAF. This organization set standards for women s
competition and encouraged them to participate in both school and non school events. There still was
a belief that women were too frail physically and mentally to participate in intense competition like
Olympics. However, in 1932, Mildred Babe Didrikson disproved this belief by winning two Olympic
gold medals and one silver medal in track and field. She had also won every golf tournament she
competed in. Her great victories influenced the acceptance of

after the Pearl Harbor attack and he lost 4 crucial carriers including his old command ship the Akagi.
The Japanese were still facing a very dangerous enemy. The Japanese thought less of the American

Isaiah Vs Jeremiah
The prophets Jeremiah and Isaiah are both prophets of the Lord. While both of them preached the true
word of God to Gods people they both did it in different ways.
The first verse of the Book of Isaiah states that Isaiah prophesied during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham,
Ahaz and Hezekiah, the kings of Judah. Uzziah s reign was 52, and Isaiah must have begun his
ministry a few years before Uzziah s death. Isaiah lived until the fourteenth year of Hezekiah s reign,
and may have been contemporary for some years with Manasseh. Thus Isaiah may have prophesied
for as long as 64 years. Isaiah had two sons She ar Ya shuv, meaning A remnant shall return and Maher
Shalal Hash Baz, meaning, Spoil quickly, plunder speedily.
Jeremiah was the son of Hilkiah, a Jewish priest from the Benjamite village of Anathoth. Jeremiah s
ministry was started in the thirteenth year of Josiah, king of Judah and lasted until after the fall of
Jerusalem and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is mainly due to the time period that Isaiah preached in. During Isaiah s ministry it was a time of
reformation. A large portion of the time he spent preaching Hezekiah was the king and he feared God
and maintained the temple. This meant that when the people and king heard the word of Isaiah they
were happy and praised God. Even when Isaiah told Hezekiah that because of his pride and showing
off his armory to the ambassadors of Babylon that the nation of Judah would be taken into captivity
and made their servants he rejoiced and praised God for this humbling.
During Jeramiah s preach he encountered false prophets. Jeramiah brought the truth saying that the
people of Israel would be destroyed if they did not repent. The false prophets where telling them that
the kingdom of Judah would not be taken captive. Jeramiah then made a picture. He was to take a
yoke this yoke represented the bondage that the people of Judah would be put into under the control of

My Leadership Style Aligns Closely With Servant Leadership
My leadership style aligns closely to servant leadership. I lead with others in mind. I value everyone s
contributions and regularly seek out opinions. Cultivating a culture of trust is incredibly important to
me. A culture of trust creates a harmonious environment where each person can be appreciated for
their contribution and can feel a sense of personal accomplishment. I do not mind people making
mistakes but I prefer them to learn from their mistakes. I seek to unite all parties in a controversy and
can readily see the validity of alternative points of views. I m exceptionally open minded to untested
or unconventional ideas and have a high tolerance for differences. However, I have enormously low
tolerance for individuals putting their own egos or desires for self promotion ahead of the team. When
I see evidence of people acting in such a manner, I like to address the problem immediately with the
individuals. If the behavior continues after a couple of warnings, these individuals will not continue to
be part of my organization. When my loyalties and values are threatened, I can become very stubborn,
rigid, and demanding. The development of leaders is another key principle for me. I like to teach
others to lead by providing opportunities for learning and growing through example and experience.
The development of leaders requires surrendering power and delegating others to lead. In some
situations, where time is of the essence and the task is not being completed to the

On William Wordsworth s Preface to Lyrical Ballads
On William Wordsworth s Preface to Lyrical Ballads The late 18th century saw a fundamental change
in the historically rigid structure of poetry, as witnessed by the collection of poems entitled Lyrical
Ballads, penned by William Wordsworth and Samuel Coleridge. At first deemed an experiment,
Lyrical Ballads garnered enough interest and favor to warrant Wordsworth s Preface to Lyrical Ballads
in 1802, as an introduction to the second edition of the collection. This revolutionary preface became a
manifesto of sorts, ushering in a period of poetry defined by descriptions of raw emotion, while
straying away from the hierarchy of past poetry. More specifically, Wordsworth advocated a break
from poetic diction and a divergence from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By weaving all of these elements together, Wordsworth creates a powerful collection of poems, where
he attempts to achieve his goal of creating an overflow of powerful feelings (Wordsworth 265).
Lyrical Ballads revolutionized the field of poetry, and Wordsworth s manifesto helped lay the
groundwork for many poets throughout the romantic period. He managed this feat by using common
language to describe the joys and struggles of the average family. This heightened the emotional
response of the reader, along with the reader s ability to relate to the themes and imagery drawn from
nature. In this endeavor, Wordsworth believed that a species of poetry would be produced, which is
genuine poetry (Wordsworth 274).

Hannibal Lecter Animal Roles
The distinction between human and animal has always been blurred in NBC s Hannibal. The TV
show, written and produced by Bryan Fuller, acts as a modern day prequel to the events that take place
in Thomas Harris s series about the fictional serial killer Hannibal Lecter. In this TV series, Hannibal
the cannibal Lecter has not been caught yet though Will Graham, an FBI consultant, knows he is a
dangerous man who must be stopped.
In episodes nine ( Shiizakana ) and ten ( Naka Choko ) from the second season, the story of Randall
Tier, a former patient of Doctor Lecter now turned serial killer, takes the main focus. His murders are
just as over the top and grotesque as the show has previously done; in past episodes, there have been
women impaled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Randall Tier s vicious mauling of his victims almost seems tame in comparison except that in order to
kill, Tier must become an animal through the use of his exoskeleton suit. Tier s character, whose last
name already categorizes him as an animal in a playful yet blunt reference, questions the very
limitations of the categories human and animal. He asks, through the donning of his animal suit, how
exactly we perform our humanity and how we perceive the animals around us. Like Franz Kafka s ape
in the short story, Report to An Academy, Randall Tier is a liminal figure, trapped inside his body and
inside other s perceptions of what being an animal means. Borrowing from old tropes in Thomas
Harris s early work on the character Buffalo Bill, Randall Tier also represents the stasis of the
psychiatric discourse which seeks to pathologize his need for transcendence by placing him on a
spectrum of Sane/insane and quantifying his condition in science, which eventually leads to his
downfall and death. In the same way that Red Peter addresses a fictitious academy in the Kafka story

Narrative Essay On High School
The last bell rang, and all the kids at Southport County High School bombarded the door of the
classroom. It was Friday and all the kids attempted to jam through the door at once. Jane, who sat at
the back of the class, waited quietly for her peers to leave. When all the kids clogging the door had
left, she rose from her desk, told her language teacher, Mrs. Phyllis, Goodbye, and sauntered into a
stream of shouting kids.
Jane was a petite tenth grader. Her hair was naturally brown and her eyes blue, she was quiet,
reserved, and only spoke to her close friends and family. Her mother worked seven days a week at the
local diner, Fry Cakes, and her dad left her mother when Jane was merely a baby. Sometimes she
missed her dad, even though she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, the stirring of one of the people on the ground helped wake her up. Jane started rifling through
the supplies. There were three water bottles and purifying drops. Four sleeping bags, countless cans of
chicken noodle soup and three backpacks with one knife, a rain poncho, jacket, and freeze dried food
packets.
The other teenagers lying on the ground stirred and awoke. The first one to stand was the boy. He had
golden brown hair, it was almost blonde, his eyes were a startling shade of green. His features were
soft and round, like a child s.
Finally, the girl stood, she had long blonde hair and blue eyes. She was also tall and thin. The two
could pass for brother and sister, or at least cousins. They stared, shocked, at Jane and the supplies that
she stood in front of. Hey, Jane said quietly.
So what are we here for? the girl inquired. Jane had figured out that the girl s name was Sammy and
the boy s name was Tom, and they were, in fact, first cousins.
I don t know, Jane replied, this note was the only thing I saw around this mound of supplies.
There s no time for this! We should get out of the clearing, said Tom. it looks like there are some kind

A. Figure 1: Standard curve of the phosphate concentrations and the absorbance values. This curve
shows the amount of light that is absorbed by the reaction of water with 1 mM phosphate in six
different test tubes, containing different volumes of water and phosphate in each tube. Tube 1
contained 1 mL of water with 0 mL of phosphate, tube 2 had 0.8 mL of water with 0.2 mL of
phosphate, tube 3 consisted of 0.6 mL of water with 0.4 mL of phosphate, tube 4 had 0.4 mL of water
with 0.6 mL of phosphate, tube 5 had 0.2 mL of water with 0.8 mL of phosphate, and tube 6 had 1 mL
of phosphate with no water present. After all of the solution was added to the test tubes, 2.5 mL of
stopping reagent was added to each test tube in order to denature the enzyme and stop the reaction.
After 10 minutes, the absorbance was measured at 620 nm; which are the values used to create this
curve based on phosphate concentration.

Defleur s Open-Systems Model
Since Canada and the United States share a border sometimes the advertisements from America are
viewed on Canadian television. Canadian heavy viewers of U.S. produced television seemed
particularly unconscious of Canadian culture and of television s potential harm to inter personal
relations. These viewers may be either consciously attempting to become more American through their
viewing habits; or, they may be exhibiting the subconscious acculturating effects of U.S. television
viewing. From the perspective of an open systems model (DeFleur Ball Rokeach, 1982) and the
implications from the literature, U.S. media domination may be one of the acculturating agents, along
with similar social forces; social contacts and other interpersonal

Characteristics Of Identical Twins
In our opinion, twins reared in different conditions will display some of the same traits. However, it
depends on certain aspects as well. To start off, Twin studies are a significant tool to investigate the
nature versus nurture argument. Identical twins, or monozygotic twins, are siblings that have the exact
same genotypes whereas fraternal twins are dizygotic twins that only share half of their genes
together. Fraternal twins are similar to siblings, except they have of the exact age. As Plomin, DeFries,
McClearn, and Rutter (1997) stated that if one twin has dark hair, then the other twin has dark hair as
well; where the concept of identical genes would ideally distribute itself towards the phenotypes of
behavior and personality of identical twins .
Twins reared in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Parents who dress their twins up in the same outfits or get them the same set of toys does not
contribute to twins who have the same traits. It shows that a common environment does not give much
impact in developing personalities. Mischel (1981) has also attested to this issue saying that genes and
glands are different, but social learning plays a dramatic role. People develop vast differences through
the stimuli they face in their daily life. Despite being reared in the same environment (their home),
both twins could have had different sets of friends. Thus, going through their school years having
different experiences and facing different challenges. As a whole they will have completely different
hobbies and interests.
Hence, we think that twins will display the same trait even though they were brought up in different
environments because traits have more to do with genetics rather than environment. Which is why
identical twins are more similar when compared to fraternal twins despite both being reared apart.
This is due to the higher similarity in genetic makeup for identical twins when compared to fraternal

Gender, Ethnicity And Socio Economic Status
Stakeholders
The participants from the community were between 16 and 80 years old. The researcher ensured to
include a balanced group that covered gender, ethnicity and socio economic status. Employment status
was not a variable used in this study. The researcher used ten jurisdictions nationwide to help ensure
coverage of the majority of subcultures within the U.S. population. There were three large police
departments, four medium police departments, and three small police departments. The community
population corresponded to the size of the department. Each jurisdiction included poor, lower class,
middle class and upper class respondents. Other found research studies have only focused on
individual jurisdictions and communities or country compared to country (Schuck Rosenbaum, 2005).
Those were either too narrow or too broad for the intent of this research project.
Research Methods
The research involved self completion questionnaires covering the experiences of police officers and
community members within the ten jurisdictions researched. Furthermore, it included rural and urban
locations and the target population were those people who had any type of interaction with the police.
It was a cost effective way to obtain a large sample base in a reasonable amount of time. In order to
appeal to the entire population, city officials would have to agree to place the questionnaires on the
city and police department websites with electronic submission as an option. This

Turn Taking Management for Multimodal Dialogue Systems
Introduction
Natural dialogue involves the management of many communicative resources in a complex activity.
Participants in a conversation transmit information, agree and disagree between each other, monitor
the communicative status of their messages, make decisions about non linguistic actions and, among
other things, they deal with social conventions about who is to talk and when. Conversations are joint
actions in which participants individually perform coordinated activities (Clark, 1996). It is quite
illustrative the metaphor proposed by Clark about dialoguing as dancing waltz. Each individual action
is coordinated in a choreographic way with the actions of the other person. How and when to talk is
learned since childhood, it is known that face to face conversation is the matrix of language
acquisition. It is common to listen parents telling to kids when is expected from them to talk (for
instance, they motivate responses if a question, an order or a hello was expressed, they show when is
expected to say thank you or you are welcome ). For the last twenty years, various efforts have sprung
from the interest to develop annotation models that reflect the diverse ways in which participants
behaviors contribute to conversation (Ahrenberg, et al., 1995; HCRC, Carletta, et al., 1996; DAMSL,
Allen Core, 1997). These tagging schemes are based on dialogue act annotation. They differ from each

The Neo Traditional Family Structure Essay
The neo traditional family structure is subsiding and is being replaced by the now more popular
egalitarian family structure. Before the neo traditional family structure was considered ideal, with one
sole financial provider for the family (usually the male), but this family structure is more difficult to
maintain because t is difficult for one person o be the breadwinner; also, the unfinished revolution has
also led to viewing this family structure as unappealing because it can be limiting for one spouse
(usually the woman). Thus, egalitarian family structures are now becoming more popular, as:
household work, childcare, and financial contribution is more equally divided between the two
partners. However, I learned that many still hold some neo traditional values, more so the males in my
sample than did the females. Initially, I thought that culture would be the largest determining in a
persons desired family structure, but the data showed otherwise. For instance, I thought that
underrepresented minorities, such as, Latinos and African Americans would hold more neo traditional
views simply because of culture. Interestingly, I learned from my analysis that this was not necessarily
the case; instead, I found that many of the participants had intermixed components of both neo
traditional family structure and an egalitarian family structure. Many of their responses contradicted
with their desired family structure. I think that this mentality is leading to new hybrid family

The Atrocities of World War II
The only recognized atrocity of World War II was the Holocaust, but the real truth hides much deeper
within. There were thousands of atrocities that occurred leading up to the war, within the years of
World War II, and after the war. Many were unrecognized and undocumented and the stories of the
dead still remain unknown. My purpose here is to tell the story of the men, women, and children that
no one remember, or never even knew existed. The Holocaust was perhaps the most dramatic and well
known atrocity of World War II because of the sheer number of deaths and crimes that had to be put
on trial in Nuremburg. Millions upon millions of Jewish men, women, and children were executed and
experimented on in dozens of ways. The Russians ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The German civilians had to deal with many tragedies such as being invaded or having the women
raped by Allied troops. The economy of World War II had a major impact on the world today. The
German economy during the war crashed so much that their money had no value and was just used as
paper. There is picture of German children making castles out of thousands of German dollars because
they were worthless. The American economy is still affected today by the results of World War II.
Thousands of war bonds were sold to the public in efforts to raise money for the war, build weapons,
build ships, build tanks, and pay soldiers. An enormous sum of the money that we owe to other
countries dates back to World War II. The amount of federal spending during World War II increased
nearly 300% from 1941 to 1945. The money that was spent in World War II increased 72 Billion
dollars from 1940 to 1945. Many boards and committees were set in place to monitor the growth in
spending and the money spent on the war, so we could spend our money wisely and get more bang for
our buck . One important topic when talking about World War II is the effect it had on human emotion.
Human emotion carried an enormous role throughout the war and probably could have changed the
ways and lives of millions of civilians and soldiers for the benefit of the world. For instance,

The Burj Khalifa And The Tallest Building
The Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world, and has been since 2009. It is a work place and a
home to many people in Dubai. It was formally known as the Burj Dubai but was changed in
recognition to Sheik Khalifa who paid for the majority of the building s construction. The Burj Khalifa
is located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The building cost 1.5 billion dollars to build. Construction
started on January 6th, 2004 and ended on December 31st, 2009. But 1,325 days after construction
started it was already the tallest freestanding structure in the world. At the peak of construction,
12,000 workers worked on the building per day. Only three workers died in the process. The building
then opened on January 4th, 2010.
The first skyscrapers were built between 1884 1939. Chicago s Home Insurance Building which
opened in 1884 was considered the world s first skyscraper. It was 138 feet tall. In 1892 Chicago
stopped building skyscrapers taller than 150 feet tall. This allowed New York to start developing taller
buildings. The economic boom of the 1920 s led to the building of the Chrysler Building and the
Empire State Building. As the Great Depression hit, the building of skyscrapers stopped. Since the end
of the Great Depression buildings have become taller and taller until we get to the Burj Khalifa at

Superego In Lord Of The Flies Essay
Frued s theory of the human psyche is that it is made up of three parts: the id, ego, and superego.
These three parts are represented in the realistic novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding. Set on a
tropical island during World War II, the novel begins when schools boys from Great Britain are being
flown to safety and their plane is shot down. No adults survive, and the boys are left to govern
themselves and get rescued. In the novel Jack represents the id, Piggy and Simon the superego, and
Ralph the ego.
In Lord of the Flies Jack represents the id. The id is the primitive and instinctive part of the
personality. Jack can most often time be seen making decisions based in on these two. One such

after he is chosen. He also is influenced by Simon, Piggy, and Jack. He listens to the superego when
Piggy tells him to blow the conch in the beginning and listens to the id when he Ralph feasts with Jack
and takes part in killing Simon. The reader is able to see that Ralph relied on the superego when, at the
end of the book, both Simon and Piggy are dead and he is being chased, he asks himself What was the
sensible thing to do? There was no Piggy to talk sense (196). Ralph relies on others to help him make
decisions and is influenced by what other people say and do. He is also the one in control of the boys
for most of the book. These are both traits of the ego. These characters in the book all help represent

The de emphasis of the returning 3 as a passing tone from 4 to 2 lends importance to the incomplete
upper neighbor A, supported by IV. This self contained tonal area stretches over half of the Preludio. A
reprise of an opening passage at the initiation of the A prolongation gestures its independence from its
surrounding, indeed a smaller organism enveloped within the larger animal. This is evident through
the internal auxiliary cadence to A that accompanies the tonal area IV. In retrospect, the IV is already a
long term goal from the beginning. The first 58 measures properly set the stage for the emergence of
IV. The first step on the path to IV is the movement to VI as a short term goal. This is done by first
moving to G# (m.39) through F# (m.37), creating a third progression E F# G# in the process. The G#
is employed first in the top voice as primary tone and then in the bass as pedal point, also the fifth to
the incoming C# (m.51) [FIG 4. EX. 1]. The C#, in a sense, is a midway stopping point from E major
on its way to A major. A# in measure 53 leads to B, creating yet another third progression G# A# B.
The B is to be read not as V of E but as II of A, unfolding to tonic through two consecutive fifths B E
A [EX.2]. As we shall see, the contour of the bass forecasts what is to come; additionally this prelude
within the Preludio presents the material for further elaboration and development.

Rotator Cuff Injury Research Paper
Millions of people across the United States suffer from either Bursitis or a rotator cuff injury every
year. Although sometimes the two can be misconceived, they are very different in all actuality. Bursitis
is the inflammation or irritation of the bursa. A bursa is a fluid filled sac used as a bumper near the
joints to reduce friction. There are many bursae located in your body, some of which being in the hip,
shoulder, wrist, and elbow. However, a rotator cuff injury only affects the shoulder area of the body.
The rotator cuff is composed of the supraspinatus, infraspinatus, subscapularis, and teres minor
muscles. There is only one main way to be diagnosed with Bursitis and it happens when you overuse a
joint in sports or on the job. You can put the bursa under pressure for a long time, thus causing the
bursa to become inflamed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, scientists have found three main activities that can cause a rotator cuff tear.
Repetitive stress is when you repeat a certain action or movement constantly and cause the muscles to
tear. Sports like baseball and tennis can cause this. Another way of disruption is by a lack of blood
supply in the rotator cuff. As people age blood supply to our tendons and muscles can deplete, causing
an impairment in our body s natural repair of tendons. The final way that can cause a tear in the rotator
cuff is bone spurs. Bone spurs can develop on the underside of the acromion bone. When we lift our
arms, the spurs rub on the rotator cuff tendons. This condition is called shoulder impingement, and
over time will weaken the tendon and make it more likely to tear. The first sign of trouble with
Bursitis is pain. Along with this pain will come swelling, redness, and tenderness of the affected area.
In some cases, it will cause stiffness in the

ABSTRACT
The decision support tool viz. SDSM (Statistical Downscaling Model) was used to downscale climate
data of future years for Kashmir province of Jammu Kashmir state. The 21st century projected data for
the A1B scenario was adjusted by using observed climatic data recorded during the period 1985 2015
for the region. The data from the same period was taken as the baseline for the analysis. This data was
thereon analyzed for monthly, seasonal, cropping season and annual periods to enumerate the variation
of maximum temperature, minimum temperature and precipitation in Kashmir valley of Jammu
Kashmir state in the 21st century. The modelled data obtained exhibited no significant change in
maximum and minimum temperature for the period 2021 2050 but for the same period increase in
annual precipitation was exhibited. For the period 2051 2100, decreasing trend of annual temperature
was exhibited whereas for annual precipitation, an increasing trend was exhibited.

Pros And Cons Of The Snail Darter
Did you know that many big rivers and lakes have dams to control the water flow? I grew up in a
place that did not have many big bodies of water which made it hard to really appreciate what dams do
to help the environment. However, the Tellico Dam is a controversial issue. The Tellico Dam was a
planned to be built by the Tennessee Valley Authority, but got delayed once they discovered a
endangered species. Where the government was allowing the Tennesseans to build the dam, in Lenoir
City, Tennessee, there was a small population of a rare species of fish, the Snail Darter. The Snail
Darter is a very small species of fish found in Eastern Tennessee freshwater. A little bit larger than the
average paperclip, this animal is part of the perch family and primarily feeds on aquatic snails. The
females can lay about 600 eggs a year. Found in shallow water, the darters, in captivity, only live up to
about four years and even less in the wild. Completing the dam would likely wipe out the Snail
Darters in that area, and the Darter could become an extinct species. I believe that we should keep the
Endangered Species Act strong to protect animal and plant species such as the Darter. My reasons for
this are that the act protects our native species, animal/plant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

completed, I have found my strengths and weaknesses within my writing and have examined methods
on how to improve them efficiently. Along with that, I have used writing a tool to develop my
thoughts and process new ideas rather than just brimming the surface of the topic. Instead, I dug deep
into the readings and analyzed them in depth. Lastly, when I was stuck in any piece of work, I sought
help and used feedback that was given to me from my classmates, teacher, and the writing center.
Without my peers, I wouldn t have accomplished as much as I did this semester.
After I was done writing an assignment, that wasn t the end of my work, I still had to edit it over and
over until I found it to be acceptable. With doing this, I examined my own writing to find strengths
and weaknesses in order to push me to become a stronger writer. When looking for my strengths, I
found that I have a passion for writing and it is something that I truly enjoy doing. This has helped me
in my writing class, because it has made the assignments more fun and easier for me to accomplish.
However, I still have many weaknesses within my writing that requires room for improvement. For
example, a main

Comparing The Hierarchy Of Salem In The Crucible By Arthur...
It was an insane time in Salem in the 1600 s, and the Hierarchy of the town could be changed
overnight. This could be due to an accusation of being a witch or even doing something bad in
colonial Massachusetts. Nowadays when the Hierarchy is set there is no changing it no matter what,
and if it is changed either they did something really bad or a contract is up. Unlike now it didn t take
much for an entire level of hierarchy to change so quickly. In the Crucible by Arthur Miller the
hierarchy of salem in the 1600 could be changed by simply a powerless woman saying she knows
someone is a witch will suddenly be heard by all. Also a respected man with some power in the town
can be put down to the bottom because of mistakes.

Malvolio Character Analysis
Malvolio
Malvolio is a minor character in twelfth night as he plays the role of Olivia s head servant and
steward. His humiliation makes his role in the play quite amusing with the Olivia, Viola (Cesario), and
Orsino love triangle, which as the play goes on, becomes more and more amusing and after a while,
you cannot help but feel bad for the poor person. His arrogant and selfish personality makes him an
amenity of sir toby, Sir Andrew and Maria who play a cruel trick on him, making him believe Olivia is
in love with him. He has a poor opinion of drinking, adding humor to this 1500 s comedy.
A delusional fool. When reading act two scene 5 Malvolio makes his love for Olivia clear when
reading the faked letter made by Maria, Sir Toby, and Sir Andrew made him. When reading it he
seems like more and more of an idiot. The first reason for this is M.O.A.I. For all these letters are in
my name however if he thought about this a bit more he could realize, if Olivia (the person he loves)
was sending a love later she would use his real name (Malvolio) instead of M.O.A.I. the second thing
is. Yes, the letters moai are in his name but there is zero evidence the letter was for him. Possibly
Olivia was actually sending a letter to moai, he is too full of himself to realize such a simple thing.
Sure the letter was meant for him but he should have sat down to re read it and really think about it, he
didn t have to know Maria wrote it but he should have talked to Maria instead of going to

Early Entrance Of The National Football League Draft
Early Entrance: The Road to the National Football League Draft A recent article in the Wall Street
Journal written in March 2014 discusses why underclassmen were suddenly leaving in droves for the
NFL draft. A picture on the front depicts Johnny Manziel who decided to leave Texas A M after his
redshirt sophomore season. The article states, Throughout the offices and film rooms of NFL teams,
the whispers are building: This may be the deepest NFL draft ever. It also may be the one that ruins
college football (Clark, 2014). A modification in the NFL s collective bargaining agreement with its
players, which was signed in 2011, is being accused for a shift so dramatic, some within the game
worry that the talent and recruiting of college football could possibly never be the same. The point
Clark (2014) is trying to get across is that players are rushing to drop out of college early to start their
professional careers. According to the article, in the 2014 NFL draft there were 98 underclassmen, a
34% increase from 2013 and an 85% increase from 2010, the year before the latest collective
bargaining agreement. The average age of an NFL player last season was 26 years 308 days, the
youngest since 1987 (Clark, 2014). Since the late 1980s, players who are three years out of high
school have been eligible to enter the draft. For the first few decades when underclassmen were
permitted in the draft, teams paid massive amounts of money on the top pick players who were then

History of The Mustang II Essay
More than 22,000 Mustangs were ordered on April 17, 1964 when it was first released by Ford. Show
rooms were visited by more than four million people and there were over 2,600 ads in newspapers. In
1974, the Mustang II began. Buyers loved it since it was smaller and had a weaker engine. This would
use less fuel during the fuel crisis. Sales had tripled since the year before. It also was easier to drive
because of its rack and pinion steering. In 1978 Mustang added many fashion features that would
appeal to female buyers. The rear seat was divided into two seats even though it had been a single seat
in the years before. Along with many new colors there were also pockets in the door handles,
illuminated driver vanity mirrors, and Fresno ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the best selling small engine cars was a Ford Mustang. The way a muscle car engine sounds is
also a big part of what people like about it. A classic muscle car has that rumbling sound that tells
other drivers to watch out. If the engine isn t making a steady sound there is something wrong with it.
The 2012 Dodge Charger was a big improvement since the previous year. With a new Hemi engine
that produces 45 more horsepower than the year before, this was the most powerful Charger ever
made. When the roof of each cylenders combustion chamber in an engine is hemispherical, it is a hemi
engine. On the other hand, the 2012 Chevrolet Camero did not change as much as the Dodge Charger
did, but it did improve a little. In 2011 the engine had 312 horsepower, in 2012 the Camero had 323
horsepower.
The 1960 s was a big time for muscle cars, and the Plymouth Road Runner was one of the best. It was
great on the street and even better on the race track. In 1976, Plymouth made a big mistake, they made
a new Volare Road Runner that wasn t even as close to as good as the others. Its engine only had 160
horsepower and it rusted so much that Plymouth had to recall it. Another car that didn t do so well was
the Delorean. Even though it was a big hit in Back to the Future, the actual car didn t meet standards.
The 1980 to 1981 Delorean DMC 12 might have had gull wing doors and the body panels might have
been stainless steel, but compared to five other sports cars it was the slowest

Nucleotide Groupings
Inside each phone of every living thing (plant or creature) are sets of directions called qualities. The
qualities give the guidelines on what is the plant or creature, what it would appear that, how it is to
survive, and how it will associate with its encompassing surroundings. The qualities are hung together
in long stands of material called deoxyribonucleic corrosive (DNA) and these long strands are called
chromosomes. Most living things have sets of chromosomes (one from every guardian), however they
might have an alternate number of chromosomes from another living thing. For instance, people have
23 sets of chromosomes and the organic product fly has 4 sets.
Every quality is comprised of long blends of four distinctive nucleotide bases. It is the different mixes
of the nucleotide bases that decide everything around a living animal.
The four nucleotides are called:
adenine(A),
cytosine (C),
guanine (G), and
thymine (T).
The quality for green eyes may have this nucleotide arrangement.

The quality for blue eyes may have this nucleotide grouping.

Analysis Of Parkinson s Disease ( Pd )
Although the salient characteristics associated with Parkinson s disease (PD) are most commonly
linked to motor deficits, including tremor and rigidity, a majority of individuals with PD also
experience a variety of sensorimotor speech deficits. While listeners often describe the speech of
individuals with PD as unnatural or unintelligible, reflecting many of the phonatory, articulatory, and
prosodic deficits linked to the disorder, individuals with PD tend to minimize or even deny their
speech differences. Because of this discrepancy between listeners perceptions of the speech of
individuals with PD and the PD patients perceptions of their own speech, researchers have recently
begun to shift their focus from the speech production deficits associated with PD to a potential speech
perception deficit within this population. This paper seeks to explore some of the current research and
perspectives surrounding the possible speech perception deficits associated with PD, as well as further
examine and compare the effects of listener perception and self perception on the overall speech
naturalness and intelligibility of individuals with PD. A Comparison of the Effects of Self Perception
and Listener Perception on the Speech Naturalness and Intelligibility of Individuals with Parkinson s
Disease According to Fahn (2003), Parkinson s disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative
disease of unknown etiology that can occur at any age, though most commonly develops in

Naval Aviation Is It s Dangerous, Unpredictable,...
Sadly, there are a few downsides to naval aviation. The career takes a longer time to train than most
other jobs, due to the high responsibilities that a naval aviator has to take. In order to be successful and
enjoy the job, a naval aviator must have charismatic and ideal qualities to endure the hardships. One of
the disadvantages to naval aviation is that it s dangerous, unpredictable, and requires a lot of time
commitment. Naval pilots have unstable futures they can be deployed to war anytime anywhere, leave
their family, or even die in battle. Thus, these unpredictable paths cause naval aviators to make a lot of
sacrifices, whether it be moving a lot, working strange and irregular hours, being oversea for lengthy
durations of time, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many personal qualities and talents that can help the young and aspired naval aviators.
According to Careers in Focus: Government, personality traits include being athletic, conventional,
and organized (Ferguson). One of the most important characteristics is being motivated, inspired, and
determined. Motivation is what drives naval aviators to do their best, to force them to wake up every
morning and work hard. Curiosity is also a very important quality, as naval aviators spend a lot of time
in the sky looking over the world and travel a lot, so having a curious mindset keeps them from
getting bored. Naval aviation often involves a counterphobic urge as one must learn to enjoy an
innately terrifying activity (Mittauer 4). Also, being responsible and honest is an important part of the
career. Naval aviators need to be extremely careful when flying; if they forget anything in the
slightest, it may result in severe injury for them and others. Moreover, naval aviators must love their
job: protecting the country and representing the nation with their flying skills. One must accept
implications of combat flying (e.g., being killed, killing enemy and civilians) (Mittauer 6). This is
what sets naval aviators apart from typical careers in the modern world today. To start off in the career
of a Navy pilot, one must get a bachelor s

  • 2. Theme Of Petruchio In The Taming Of The Shrew The Secret To Wed A Shrew Lust, wealth, and pride are undoubtedly insatiable. They are an impetus that drives one to embark on a challenging quest. However, when individuals become obsessed with them, they may even turn them into a villain. In William Shakespeare s The Taming Of The Shrew, Petruchio is the villain that has all these insatiable curiosities. A male chauvinist, he is a boisterous nobleman from Verona who pursues Katherine even though he knows that she is fiery and obnoxious. Despite her notoriety, he is not deterred by her egregious disposition because what he wants is her dowry. By being manipulative, corrupt, and audacious, Petruchio is able to win Katherine s heart as well as her wealth. Petruchio is able to get closer ... By analyzing this dialogue, it becomes apparent that Petruchio only cares about wealth and power, no matter how shrewish and unattractive his future wife may be. Further evidence that proves that Petruchio only cares about Katherine s dowry is during the wedding feast, Petruchio announces: Gentlemen and friends, I thank you for you I know you think to dine with me today And have prepared great store of wedding cheer, But so it is, my haste doth call me hence, And therefore here I mean to take my leave (III ii 157 161). This seals the fact that Petruchio does not love Katherine at all, as clearly, there are seemingly more important things to him than celebrating his own marriage. Hence, Petruchio s corruption for wealth is the only factor that drives him to marrying Katherine, as he doesn t actually care about Katherine herself. Finally, the reason why Petruchio is able to complete his plans is because of his audacious nature. His unrefined personality allows him to speak freely and ask disrespectful questions in order to deceive people and grasp the situation in hand. This is evident when Petruchio bluntly asks Baptista: Then tell me, if I get your daughter s love, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. What Is Demand Model Of Supply And Demand Supply and demand is a model for understanding the determination of the price of quantity of a good sold on the market. The explanation works by looking at two different groups buyers and sellers and asking how they interrelate. The supply and demand model relies on a high level of competition, meaning that bidding can only take place if there is a high amount of buyers and sellers in the market. Buyers bid against each other and thus raise the price, while sellers bid against each other and thus lower the price. The equilibrium is a point at which all the bidding has been done; nobody has a reason to offer higher prices or accept lower prices. In this essay I will be critically analysing the supply/demand model in understanding actual world supply, demand and market behaviour. I will highlight this through the aid of diagrams and examples. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This model will work most accurately when there is perfect competition. Perfect competition arises when consumers and producers of a product are price takers. This means they have no power to influence the market price. However, this is not a realistic proposal because no market is going to be perfectly competitive. Although the supply demand framework still gives a good estimate for what is happening in the market most of the time. To an economists demand refers to both the willingness and ability to pay for a good. When the price of a good falls, the quantity demanded will fall. This applies to both individuals and whole market demand. This is known as the law of demand. The relationship between Quantity Demanded (Qd) and price can be shown in a table (curve). Price is located on the vertical axis and demand is located on the horizontal. The demand curve will have a negative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The goal of the project is to optimize the service process with the purpose of minimizing the service time. There has been an ever growing emphasis on service speed and work efficiency in the last century and people have come to expect fast service. It is therefore, paramount that Tim Hortons meet and perhaps exceed the expectations of its customers by providing them with the fastest service possible. The Tim Hortons site being studied is located in downtown Toronto which is a very busy area and therefore the branch experiences very high activity most of the day. To account for the high arrival rate, the site has provided 4 cashiers to take ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The initial issue that was noticed after many hours of observing the systems operations were that the service times for the customers were too lengthy. Especially during the peak times of 9am 12pm. Customers were observed to be in the system for an average of 11.82 minutes. Although there were four servers at this location only two of them were actively in use. This is due to the fact that the customers would only line up in front of the two middle servers leaving the other two servers empty. Causing the servers to constantly have to ask the customers to move over to the other queues, causing the overall time in the system to be much greater than it should be. This project aims to demonstrate how the service of the facility is capable of providing fast service if all four servers were actively in use, to investigate the reason why the customers are not lining up with the other servers and finally how to improve the design of the facility in order to allow the customers to actually make use of the other two servers at the facility. Queueing models will be set up comparing the service time results when 4 servers are actively in use as opposed to the service time when only 2 of the servers are being used. The following table shows the data collected for 57 customers from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. From the table, the total queueing time is 460 minutes and the average queueing time is 8.07 minutes. • 5. Schumann and the Kinderszenen Schumann and the Kinderszenen Robert Schumann, composer throughout the early to mid nineteenth century, is probably best known for his songs and piano works. Before injuring his finger most likely through the use of a chiroplast (an instrument that guides the hands while playing; highly controversial), Schumann was an avid piano player, if not a proper concert pianist and virtuoso[1]. But due to this ailing finger, Schumann had to eventually find other means to support his life. Thankfully for us, he eventually turned to composition, and furthermore, to piano composition. His affinity for piano led to some of the best character pieces for piano ever created, including the piano cycles Papillon, Carnaval, and Kreisleriana. But these ... Koßmaly continues by saying that through the truth of description, [and] the naturalness of the coloration Kinderszenen achieves cohesiveness.[7] But also, it is worth noting that the repetition of certain themes, including the melody in the opening line of the cycle from Von fremden Landern und Menschen (Figure 2), also play a role in connecting individual movements despite the stylistic differences between them.[8] [pic] It is this cohesiveness that plays a vital role in the immersion of the listener into the music, and therefore ultimately determined the public success of the piece. Unlike many of Schumann s earlier piano cycles, Kinderszenen received quite a favorable public reception. In fact, it was Schumann s most financially successful collection to date, which was especially important since at that time he was attempting to prove himself both professionally and financially to Friedrich Wieck, Clara s father, so he could marry Clara. This success may have been a result of the differences made between the Kinderszenen and his previous works as outlined above, but perhaps also the favorable reception may have been a result of Schumann s return to simplistic forms and ideas instead of over complicating his ... • 6. Maximum Phonational Frequency Range Case Studies Maximum Phonational Frequency Range (MPFR) is described as the maximum range of phonation between a client s lowest modal/chest register tone and highest loft tone/falsetto register. The MPFR is typically determined by using a pitch matching procedure. Ms. Noid will be instructed to sustain a vowel (i.e. /a/) matching the pitch of a presented tone (i.e. sine wave). She will start phonation at a comfortable frequency level, and will incrementally increase her frequency range production, until she can no longer sustain phonation. Then, Ms. Noid will be instructed to incrementally decrease her frequency range until her modal phonation can no longer be sustained. The rationale for using an MPFR measure is to explore the physical condition of the phonatory mechanism. Furthermore, it is a way to quantify the client s frequency variability, measured through an entire range of frequencies (i.e. highest to lowest), which are produced with maximal effort. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ms. Noid will have a constrained phonational frequency range of approximately 1 2 octaves, reflecting a physiological limitation and impaired vocal mechanism, due to a unilateral vocal fold paralysis. Frequency Perturbation (jitter) is an indicator of the stability of phonation. It is a measurement of cycle to cycle variability in fundamental frequency. Typically, results are acquired from a three second mid segment sample of a sustained phonation task, avoiding phonatory onset and offset. Fundamental frequency and intensity values should be specified since they vary, affecting the Frequency Perturbation (jitter) values. The rationale for measuring jitter is that it provides objective measures for distinguishing a normal from a disordered voice, and estimates vocal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It doesn t focus on the role that technology plays in improving coordination among market players. In ancient times, men dominated societies. Women were viewed as the caretaker, a provider for life. Women who did participate were criticized and were thought of as threatening. In 18th century America, women were considered inferior to men because of the belief that women are the weaker sex. A woman s purpose in life was to take care of the house, children, and husband. When they did want to participate in recreational sport, they need to be able to negotiate with men and with other women because societies did not make it easy for women to participate. This led to the formation of organizations like the national committee on Women s Sports, to provide rules and standards for athletic participation for women and girls. The AAU, Amateur Athletic Union, which was under the control of men, took control over women s athletics. This stirred up conflict amongst physical educators and other leaders like, Lou Henry Hoover, Blanche Thrilling, and Agnes Wayman who opposed the AAU control and wanted women to govern the organization not men. They were against it because only women could understand the psychological, motivational, and physiological need for women. (Costa Guthrie, 91) Lou Henry Hoover was the leader of the National Amateur Athletic Federation, which was an organization that supported sport for everyone. She wanted to have a separate Women s division because of the different ideal standards of women s sport; and so was formed the women s division of the NAAF. This organization set standards for women s competition and encouraged them to participate in both school and non school events. There still was a belief that women were too frail physically and mentally to participate in intense competition like Olympics. The first verse of the Book of Isaiah states that Isaiah prophesied during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, the kings of Judah. Uzziah s reign was 52, and Isaiah must have begun his ministry a few years before Uzziah s death. Isaiah lived until the fourteenth year of Hezekiah s reign, and may have been contemporary for some years with Manasseh. Thus Isaiah may have prophesied for as long as 64 years. Isaiah had two sons She ar Ya shuv, meaning A remnant shall return and Maher Shalal Hash Baz, meaning, Spoil quickly, plunder speedily. • 17. My Leadership Style Aligns Closely With Servant Leadership My leadership style aligns closely to servant leadership. I lead with others in mind. I value everyone s contributions and regularly seek out opinions. Cultivating a culture of trust is incredibly important to me. A culture of trust creates a harmonious environment where each person can be appreciated for their contribution and can feel a sense of personal accomplishment. I do not mind people making mistakes but I prefer them to learn from their mistakes. I seek to unite all parties in a controversy and can readily see the validity of alternative points of views. I m exceptionally open minded to untested or unconventional ideas and have a high tolerance for differences. However, I have enormously low tolerance for individuals putting their own egos or desires for self promotion ahead of the team. When I see evidence of people acting in such a manner, I like to address the problem immediately with the individuals. If the behavior continues after a couple of warnings, these individuals will not continue to be part of my organization. When my loyalties and values are threatened, I can become very stubborn, rigid, and demanding. The development of leaders is another key principle for me. • 19. On William Wordsworth s Preface to Lyrical Ballads On William Wordsworth s Preface to Lyrical Ballads The late 18th century saw a fundamental change in the historically rigid structure of poetry, as witnessed by the collection of poems entitled Lyrical Ballads, penned by William Wordsworth and Samuel Coleridge. At first deemed an experiment, Lyrical Ballads garnered enough interest and favor to warrant Wordsworth s Preface to Lyrical Ballads in 1802, as an introduction to the second edition of the collection. This revolutionary preface became a manifesto of sorts, ushering in a period of poetry defined by descriptions of raw emotion, while straying away from the hierarchy of past poetry. More specifically, Wordsworth advocated a break from poetic diction and a divergence from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lyrical Ballads revolutionized the field of poetry, and Wordsworth s manifesto helped lay the groundwork for many poets throughout the romantic period. He managed this feat by using common language to describe the joys and struggles of the average family. This heightened the emotional response of the reader, along with the reader s ability to relate to the themes and imagery drawn from nature. The TV show, written and produced by Bryan Fuller, acts as a modern day prequel to the events that take place in Thomas Harris s series about the fictional serial killer Hannibal Lecter. In this TV series, Hannibal the cannibal Lecter has not been caught yet though Will Graham, an FBI consultant, knows he is a dangerous man who must be stopped. In episodes nine ( Shiizakana ) and ten ( Naka Choko ) from the second season, the story of Randall Tier, a former patient of Doctor Lecter now turned serial killer, takes the main focus. Randall Tier s vicious mauling of his victims almost seems tame in comparison except that in order to kill, Tier must become an animal through the use of his exoskeleton suit. Tier s character, whose last name already categorizes him as an animal in a playful yet blunt reference, questions the very limitations of the categories human and animal. He asks, through the donning of his animal suit, how exactly we perform our humanity and how we perceive the animals around us. Like Franz Kafka s ape in the short story, Report to An Academy, Randall Tier is a liminal figure, trapped inside his body and inside other s perceptions of what being an animal means. Borrowing from old tropes in Thomas Harris s early work on the character Buffalo Bill, Randall Tier also represents the stasis of the psychiatric discourse which seeks to pathologize his need for transcendence by placing him on a spectrum of Sane/insane and quantifying his condition in science, which eventually leads to his downfall and death. When all the kids clogging the door had left, she rose from her desk, told her language teacher, Mrs. Phyllis, Goodbye, and sauntered into a stream of shouting kids. Jane was a petite tenth grader. To start off, Twin studies are a significant tool to investigate the nature versus nurture argument. Identical twins, or monozygotic twins, are siblings that have the exact same genotypes whereas fraternal twins are dizygotic twins that only share half of their genes together. Fraternal twins are similar to siblings, except they have of the exact age. As Plomin, DeFries, McClearn, and Rutter (1997) stated that if one twin has dark hair, then the other twin has dark hair as well; where the concept of identical genes would ideally distribute itself towards the phenotypes of behavior and personality of identical twins . People develop vast differences through the stimuli they face in their daily life. Despite being reared in the same environment (their home), both twins could have had different sets of friends. Thus, going through their school years having different experiences and facing different challenges. As a whole they will have completely different hobbies and interests. • 27. Presentation of Research Proposal Turn Taking Management for Multimodal Dialogue Systems Introduction Natural dialogue involves the management of many communicative resources in a complex activity. Participants in a conversation transmit information, agree and disagree between each other, monitor the communicative status of their messages, make decisions about non linguistic actions and, among other things, they deal with social conventions about who is to talk and when. Conversations are joint actions in which participants individually perform coordinated activities (Clark, 1996). It is quite illustrative the metaphor proposed by Clark about dialoguing as dancing waltz. Each individual action is coordinated in a choreographic way with the actions of the other person. How and when to talk is learned since childhood, it is known that face to face conversation is the matrix of language acquisition. It is common to listen parents telling to kids when is expected from them to talk (for instance, they motivate responses if a question, an order or a hello was expressed, they show when is expected to say thank you or you are welcome ). For the last twenty years, various efforts have sprung from the interest to develop annotation models that reflect the diverse ways in which participants behaviors contribute to conversation (Ahrenberg, et al., 1995; HCRC, Carletta, et al., 1996; DAMSL, Allen Core, 1997). Before the neo traditional family structure was considered ideal, with one sole financial provider for the family (usually the male), but this family structure is more difficult to maintain because t is difficult for one person o be the breadwinner; also, the unfinished revolution has also led to viewing this family structure as unappealing because it can be limiting for one spouse (usually the woman). Thus, egalitarian family structures are now becoming more popular, as: household work, childcare, and financial contribution is more equally divided between the two partners. However, I learned that many still hold some neo traditional values, more so the males in my sample than did the females. Initially, I thought that culture would be the largest determining in a persons desired family structure, but the data showed otherwise. For instance, I thought that underrepresented minorities, such as, Latinos and African Americans would hold more neo traditional views simply because of culture. Interestingly, I learned from my analysis that this was not necessarily the case; instead, I found that many of the participants had intermixed components of both neo traditional family structure and an egalitarian family structure. Many of their responses contradicted with their desired family structure. I think that this mentality is leading to new hybrid family ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is evident through the internal auxiliary cadence to A that accompanies the tonal area IV. In retrospect, the IV is already a long term goal from the beginning. The first 58 measures properly set the stage for the emergence of IV. The first step on the path to IV is the movement to VI as a short term goal. This is done by first moving to G# (m.39) through F# (m.37), creating a third progression E F# G# in the process. The G# is employed first in the top voice as primary tone and then in the bass as pedal point, also the fifth to the incoming C# (m.51) [FIG 4. EX. 1]. I grew up in a place that did not have many big bodies of water which made it hard to really appreciate what dams do to help the environment. However, the Tellico Dam is a controversial issue. The Tellico Dam was a planned to be built by the Tennessee Valley Authority, but got delayed once they discovered a endangered species. Where the government was allowing the Tennesseans to build the dam, in Lenoir City, Tennessee, there was a small population of a rare species of fish, the Snail Darter. The Snail Darter is a very small species of fish found in Eastern Tennessee freshwater. A little bit larger than the average paperclip, this animal is part of the perch family and primarily feeds on aquatic snails. The females can lay about 600 eggs a year. Found in shallow water, the darters, in captivity, only live up to about four years and even less in the wild. Completing the dam would likely wipe out the Snail Darters in that area, and the Darter could become an extinct species. I believe that we should keep the Endangered Species Act strong to protect animal and plant species such as the Darter. My reasons for this are that the act protects our native species, animal/plant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 40. Strengths And Weaknesses Of My Writing Class This semester of my writing class, I have grown a new perspective on the word freedom. When starting off, I only believed there to be one basic definition of this word. Now, I have learned that there are two descriptive definitions and they are used in different ways. With all of the assignments I have completed, I have found my strengths and weaknesses within my writing and have examined methods on how to improve them efficiently. Along with that, I have used writing a tool to develop my thoughts and process new ideas rather than just brimming the surface of the topic. Instead, I dug deep into the readings and analyzed them in depth. Lastly, when I was stuck in any piece of work, I sought help and used feedback that was given to me from my classmates, teacher, and the writing center. Without my peers, I wouldn t have accomplished as much as I did this semester. After I was done writing an assignment, that wasn t the end of my work, I still had to edit it over and over until I found it to be acceptable. With doing this, I examined my own writing to find strengths and weaknesses in order to push me to become a stronger writer. When looking for my strengths, I found that I have a passion for writing and it is something that I truly enjoy doing. This has helped me in my writing class, because it has made the assignments more fun and easier for me to accomplish. However, I still have many weaknesses within my writing that requires room for improvement. For example, a main ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Comparing The Hierarchy Of Salem In The Crucible By Arthur... It was an insane time in Salem in the 1600 s, and the Hierarchy of the town could be changed overnight. This could be due to an accusation of being a witch or even doing something bad in colonial Massachusetts. Nowadays when the Hierarchy is set there is no changing it no matter what, and if it is changed either they did something really bad or a contract is up. Unlike now it didn t take much for an entire level of hierarchy to change so quickly. In the Crucible by Arthur Miller the hierarchy of salem in the 1600 could be changed by simply a powerless woman saying she knows someone is a witch will suddenly be heard by all. Also a respected man with some power in the town can be put down to the bottom because of mistakes. In this book Abagale ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Malvolio Character Analysis Malvolio Malvolio is a minor character in twelfth night as he plays the role of Olivia s head servant and steward. His humiliation makes his role in the play quite amusing with the Olivia, Viola (Cesario), and Orsino love triangle, which as the play goes on, becomes more and more amusing and after a while, you cannot help but feel bad for the poor person. His arrogant and selfish personality makes him an amenity of sir toby, Sir Andrew and Maria who play a cruel trick on him, making him believe Olivia is in love with him. He has a poor opinion of drinking, adding humor to this 1500 s comedy. A delusional fool. When reading act two scene 5 Malvolio makes his love for Olivia clear when reading the faked letter made by Maria, Sir Toby, and Sir Andrew made him. When reading it he seems like more and more of an idiot. The first reason for this is M.O.A.I. For all these letters are in my name however if he thought about this a bit more he could realize, if Olivia (the person he loves) was sending a love later she would use his real name (Malvolio) instead of M.O.A.I. the second thing is. Yes, the letters moai are in his name but there is zero evidence the letter was for him. Possibly Olivia was actually sending a letter to moai, he is too full of himself to realize such a simple thing. Sure the letter was meant for him but he should have sat down to re read it and really think about it, he didn t have to know Maria wrote it but he should have talked to Maria instead of going to ... Early Entrance Of The National Football League Draft Early Entrance: The Road to the National Football League Draft A recent article in the Wall Street Journal written in March 2014 discusses why underclassmen were suddenly leaving in droves for the NFL draft. A picture on the front depicts Johnny Manziel who decided to leave Texas A M after his redshirt sophomore season. The article states, Throughout the offices and film rooms of NFL teams, the whispers are building: This may be the deepest NFL draft ever. It also may be the one that ruins college football (Clark, 2014). A modification in the NFL s collective bargaining agreement with its players, which was signed in 2011, is being accused for a shift so dramatic, some within the game worry that the talent and recruiting of college football could possibly never be the same. The point Clark (2014) is trying to get across is that players are rushing to drop out of college early to start their professional careers. • 44. History of The Mustang II Essay More than 22,000 Mustangs were ordered on April 17, 1964 when it was first released by Ford. Show rooms were visited by more than four million people and there were over 2,600 ads in newspapers. In 1974, the Mustang II began. Buyers loved it since it was smaller and had a weaker engine. This would use less fuel during the fuel crisis. Sales had tripled since the year before. It also was easier to drive because of its rack and pinion steering. In 1978 Mustang added many fashion features that would appeal to female buyers. The rear seat was divided into two seats even though it had been a single seat in the years before. One of the best selling small engine cars was a Ford Mustang. The way a muscle car engine sounds is also a big part of what people like about it. A classic muscle car has that rumbling sound that tells other drivers to watch out. If the engine isn t making a steady sound there is something wrong with it. The 2012 Dodge Charger was a big improvement since the previous year. With a new Hemi engine that produces 45 more horsepower than the year before, this was the most powerful Charger ever made. When the roof of each cylenders combustion chamber in an engine is hemispherical, it is a hemi engine. On the other hand, the 2012 Chevrolet Camero did not change as much as the Dodge Charger did, but it did improve a little. In 2011 the engine had 312 horsepower, in 2012 the Camero had 323 horsepower. The 1960 s was a big time for muscle cars, and the Plymouth Road Runner was one of the best. It was great on the street and even better on the race track. In 1976, Plymouth made a big mistake, they made a new Volare Road Runner that wasn t even as close to as good as the others. Its engine only had 160 horsepower and it rusted so much that Plymouth had to recall it. Another car that didn t do so well was the Delorean. Even though it was a big hit in Back to the Future, the actual car didn t meet standards. The 1980 to 1981 Delorean DMC 12 might have had gull wing doors and the body panels might have been stainless steel, but compared to five other sports cars it was the slowest ... The qualities give the guidelines on what is the plant or creature, what it would appear that, how it is to survive, and how it will associate with its encompassing surroundings. The qualities are hung together in long stands of material called deoxyribonucleic corrosive (DNA) and these long strands are called chromosomes. Most living things have sets of chromosomes (one from every guardian), however they might have an alternate number of chromosomes from another living thing. For instance, people have 23 sets of chromosomes and the organic product fly has 4 sets. Every quality is comprised of long blends of four distinctive nucleotide bases. It is the different mixes of the nucleotide bases that decide everything around a living animal. The four nucleotides are called: adenine(A), cytosine (C), guanine (G), and thymine (T). • 47. Analysis Of Parkinson s Disease ( Pd ) Although the salient characteristics associated with Parkinson s disease (PD) are most commonly linked to motor deficits, including tremor and rigidity, a majority of individuals with PD also experience a variety of sensorimotor speech deficits. While listeners often describe the speech of individuals with PD as unnatural or unintelligible, reflecting many of the phonatory, articulatory, and prosodic deficits linked to the disorder, individuals with PD tend to minimize or even deny their speech differences. Because of this discrepancy between listeners perceptions of the speech of individuals with PD and the PD patients perceptions of their own speech, researchers have recently begun to shift their focus from the speech production deficits associated with PD to a potential speech perception deficit within this population. This paper seeks to explore some of the current research and perspectives surrounding the possible speech perception deficits associated with PD, as well as further examine and compare the effects of listener perception and self perception on the overall speech naturalness and intelligibility of individuals with PD. A Comparison of the Effects of Self Perception and Listener Perception on the Speech Naturalness and Intelligibility of Individuals with Parkinson s Disease According to Fahn (2003), Parkinson s disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease of unknown etiology that can occur at any age, though most commonly develops in ... • 48. Naval Aviation Is It s Dangerous, Unpredictable,... Sadly, there are a few downsides to naval aviation. The career takes a longer time to train than most other jobs, due to the high responsibilities that a naval aviator has to take. In order to be successful and enjoy the job, a naval aviator must have charismatic and ideal qualities to endure the hardships. One of the disadvantages to naval aviation is that it s dangerous, unpredictable, and requires a lot of time commitment. Naval pilots have unstable futures they can be deployed to war anytime anywhere, leave their family, or even die in battle. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many personal qualities and talents that can help the young and aspired naval aviators. According to Careers in Focus: Government, personality traits include being athletic, conventional, and organized (Ferguson). One of the most important characteristics is being motivated, inspired, and determined. Motivation is what drives naval aviators to do their best, to force them to wake up every morning and work hard. Curiosity is also a very important quality, as naval aviators spend a lot of time in the sky looking over the world and travel a lot, so having a curious mindset keeps them from getting bored. Naval aviation often involves a counterphobic urge as one must learn to enjoy an innately terrifying activity (Mittauer 4). Also, being responsible and honest is an important part of the career. Naval aviators need to be extremely careful when flying; if they forget anything in the slightest, it may result in severe injury for them and others. Moreover, naval aviators must love their job: protecting the country and representing the nation with their flying skills. One must accept implications of combat flying (e.g., being killed, killing enemy and civilians) (Mittauer 6). This is what sets naval aviators apart from typical careers in the modern world today.
