Paolin Child Abuse In Casanova s Venice
Larry Wolff. Paolina s Innocence: Child Abuse in Casanova s Venice.
1785, in Venice, Gaetano Franceschini was arrested for having had sexual contact with an eight year
old girl whose name was Paolina. Franceschini , a sixty year old man that had moved to Venice from
Vicenza, where his family made their fortune in the manufacture of silk. His suspected victim,
Paolina, was the daughter of a poor laundress from the immigrant Friulian community in Venice.
Franceschini took on the girl to become his servant, a spent one night in the man s house sleeping in
his bed. Another servant in Franceschini s house, at which point the priest decided to take Paolina
away and denounce the libertine, told this information to a priest. The title suggests that ... Show more

The population that surrounded the environment of the coffee house and may of the characters
commented that Franceschini was a sexual man, which made his story about having Paolina in his bed
even more scandalous for the characters in the book to gossip about more. One character in particular
stood out to the reader, the coffee house owners wife, Francesca Ravasin. She was in a way the female
ringleader, and the queen of being noise and able to collect the gossip. She kept a close eye from her
balcony window of all that went on the whole building of Calle della Cortesia. The testimony that
Francesca described Franceschini as a sensual man, on page 85.The window who lived downstairs
said that he also used to bring girls home of a tender age. These testimonies portrayed Franceschini
was someone who aggravate this scandal to happen with having girls stay with him, as his servants.
Through all of the testimonies from the people that lived around the area and went to the coffee shop,
the trail really point out to the reader the adult violation of an innocence of a child. Today as in Venice
in the late 18th century, a sexually abused child is supposed to have been robbed of their childhood,
which consists of an sexless time, and no one understood what the term innocence meant, or how to
could be taken away, Wolff write the chimera of innocence with deems to childhood still in power on
page 246. In this instance, Franceschini s defense was based on the girl s virginity and the hypothesis
that adults close to her had manipulated her statement. The judges knew that Paolina was innocent by
the way she used childish language. Paolina used very simple words that proved she did not
understand sexual matters. Especially when she explained to the judges what masturbation was ,and
did not know how to put it

Magical Realism and Fantastic Sublime in Laura Esquivel s Like Water for Chocolate
The different elements of the story Like Water for Chocolate are amazing. The feelings that go
through a person upon listening, watching, and tasting events that happen during this story of the
Spanish family s lives. The customs of this family were so unorthodox. This story is fantastic sublime
and magical realism combined. Laura Esquivel wrote this novel in 1992. The nationality of the people

Love is magical any way one looks at it. However, the love Tita felt in this story would also seem to
be considered sublime. Tita s feelings were inhuman about Pedro. How could anyone love a person as
much as Tita did and say anything? Society today has never heard of such a thing. Everyone seems to
say what he or she feels or doesn t feel. It doesn t matter to him or her.
Tita turned all of her feelings into cooking. The magical way Tita s feelings went into the cake batter.
As she mixed it she cried and the tears dropped into it the bowl. The cake was baked, and people who
ate it reflected each one s feelings toward each other. The cooking had a mystical power that seemed
to have some magical realism involved because of all the strange happenings due to the cooking.
However, the cooking seemed to have the essence of the sublime which involves the inhuman image
of silence of the sublime.
The inner feeling of a person that has a boundary or threshold inside of them ready to ignite was what
happened to the shower when Tita s sister was in it. The threshold of the inner feelings of this girl was
exploding. During her shower, the inner feelings of passion exploded, and flames from the passion
that she was feeling caused the shower to catch on fire. In the excitement of the burning shower house,
the girl ran out of the shower without any clothes, not even a towel. The magical realism was all the
passion the girl had inside her that just erupted

Discourse on Method Essay example
Discourse on Method
Heuresis (or invention) comprises, as Richard Lanham notes, the first of the five traditional parts of
rhetorical theory, concerned with the finding and elaboration of arguments (1991: 91). In Aristotle s
Rhetoric the category of heuresis included the kinds of proof available to the rhetorician, lists of valid
and invalid topoi, as well as the various commonplaces the rhetorician might touch upon loci or
stereotypical themes and observations ( time flies ) appropriate to a given occasion
(Lanham 1991: 166 170). In a more contemporary sense heuretic is defined by the OED as the branch
of logic which treats of the art of discovery or invention. Both senses of this word, along with its more
familiar cognate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ulmer s book presents itself, in part, as a heuristic device for enabling such new forms of research and
text production from the inventio provided by Jacques Derrida. In The Other Heading, reflecting on
contemporary Europe,
Derrida repeats a fundamental question posed by Paul Valery in 1939 in the wake of fascism: What are
you going to do?
What are you going to do today? (1992: 18, cited in Ulmer 84). Ulmer sees his work as a response, in
1992, to this call for invention. Ulmer s text also presents itself as providing a method for the
contemporary paradigm (12) of poststructuralism comparable to the method Descartes provided for an
emergent scientific rationalism. He is quick, however, to qualify this project for any attempt at a
postmodernist method is contradictory (an impossible possibility) (25). In one of the most suggestive
sections of work, the initial chapter contends that all of the manifestos of the avant garde, belong to
the tradition of the discourse on method (8), and provides an analysis of the common elements
comprising such discourses. They are
representable for mnemonic reference by the acronym CATTt (8).
C = Contrast (opposition, inversion, differentiation) A = Analogy (figuration, displacement) T =
Theory (repetition, literalization) T = Target (application, purpose) t = Tale (secondary elaboration,
representability) (8)
Thus Descartes discourse on method

Another technique which individuals can use is autogenic training which centers a human to produce
warmth and heaviness, that can eventually leads to a state of relaxation.
Another technique that can be applied to one s life in order to help one to regulate arousal during
performance is called multimodal anxiety reduction packages. A well known form of this anxiety
reducing technique is called stress management training. SMT consists of applying relaxation and
cognitive components to one s form of coping responses to emotional arousal that may arise within.
Another example of a multidomal anxiety reduction that may fortify one s way of coping with stress is
through stress inoculation training. This particular training involves exposing a human to stressful
components, including mental images, and self statements, that fortifies a human s resistance to stress.
Therefore, as mentioned before, arousal regulation is a particular coping mechanism which athletes
can greatly benefit them in order to excel in their physical and mental performance when playing a

The Mystery Of Liars By Nancy Farmer
Ever since we were young we were shunned away from telling lies and were taught that it was wrong.
Why is it that lying was immoral, but then as we grow up we drift away from that lesson? Many can
say that we are cowards who hide behind our lies. Today there exist a white lie which states that you
are telling a lie to help someone. Why do we teach our kids that lying is bad when adults lie all the
time? In the quote Nancy Farmer compares the liars to rats who are cowards that hides and runs
around in dark places because looking at the word lying it can gives off a vibe of a dark and lonely
place. Just like rats who runs and hides in dark places, liars are basically hiding behind the shadows
and living alone in their lie. From the quote I agree and disagree with the quote, where I agreed with
the quote that liars are basically rats who hides and run from the truth, they don t care if it s unpleasant
to others and see lying as an escape route from trouble. Where I disagree is they can t be called
cowards because they might be telling a white lie and instead of being unpleasant, it can actually help
the person that is receiving the lie.
Getting told a lie is a very unpleasant feeling for some while for others. They have a stronger
mentality and can withstand being told a lie. Personally in my opinion, being told a lie makes one feel
as if they can t trust the person anymore due to the fact that they are hiding something. For the person
receiving the lie it is much more

St. Louis Arch
Great structures tell us what society values throughout history. Monuments aren t created just for
having bragging rights over another country. The importance of creating these pieces of art is to retain
the historical events that led to the creation of monuments all around the world. Reaching 630 feet
high and taller than any other structure, stands one of the most recognized monument in the United
States, the St. Louis Arch. Built by an architect named Eero Saarinen, the St. Louis Arch is more of a
commemoration. Not only was the Arch dedicated to Thomas Jefferson for the Louisiana purchase,

Louis, Missouri is the Gateway Arch. The Gateway to the West invites people to really think about
what early St. Louis would ve looked like. Coming to the region first, were the French and Spanish.
During their exploration of St. Louis, both found different groups of Native American tribes that were
local to the region. Author Tracy Campbell, who specialized in United States political and social
history at Duke University says Natives tribes included Osages, Missouri s, Iowa s, and Omaha s

Exile In Brave New World
Exile is a subject very few touch upon. Exile is never really spoken about because once you are
alienated by those you once considered friends or family, a gaping hole opens and no one really knows
how to explain it other than just that; a hole that can only be filled with the one place on earth you feel
safe; home. When exiled, a rift opens between the individual that was cast out and their home, and
family and friends. This so called rift that opens between a person and their home is evident in Brave
New World with John s life. John is a white man who is interested in the tribal customs of the Indians,
in this novel called savages , which are very different and looked down upon by the citizens of the
World State society. John s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Malpais people isolate John because he is white and this sets him apart from the Savages. John is
excluded from the rituals and tribal customs of the Malpais people. He is seen as an outcast also
because his mother is viewed as very immoral. On the Savage Reservation John tells Bernard Marx
that he feels neither welcome nor wanted, he says he is alone, always alone. (pg 91) Although John is
exiled, the experience of living on the Reservation is enlightening because he is able to step back and
see how others treat one another. This helps him to develop as a character because he comes from a
life full of hardships and troubling times so he understands what those who are treated poorly feel.
John s attitude toward his mother is extremely protective, which builds their relationship later in the
novel. John s exile came at an early age when he was born. John was born naturally rather than being
hatched at the D.H.C. Natural birth is no longer accepted in the New World so when John is born he is
shipped off to live on the Savage Reservation. Growing up on the Savage Reservation shows John just
how different he is from both the citizens of the World State and the Malpais people. His morals and
beliefs are far from the immoral values that those of the New World have, and his skin color coupled
with how his mother is viewed sets him apart from the

Symbolism In Sweat By Zora Neale Hurston
Zora Neale Hurston s short story, Sweat effectively shows an African American woman overcoming
her abusive husband. In Sweat, the antagonist, Sykes abuses his wife, Delia emotionally and
physically. The protagonist, Delia overcomes her fear of her husband by letting her anger build up
inside until she finally no longer cares about her husband s well being. By the end of the story, Delia s
pint up anger results in her watching her husband die even though she could save him. Symbolism
plays a major role in Sweat. The clothing symbolizes Delia s purity but when Sykes messes up the
clothes it symbolizes the mess that he makes of their marriage. The snake symbolizes Sykes. The

I have lived in New Harmony, Indiana since I turned three. New Harmony easily remains one of the

Indianapolis; it is scary to wonder about who I would be if I had grown up in the largest city in the
state rather than here. Here being a town with a population of around 800 and one K 12 school with an

the sales forecast accuracy . So this new commission is something really good to improve the

salesperson will forecast the minimum target in order to reach their target.
The Product Gross Margin ;
There is a new commission based on the product gross margin , but neither commission will be paid

Mao Zedong Analysis
In order for a revolution to occur, it is essential to have a leader the revolutionaries can unite under; a
leader as persistent as Mao Zedong. Mao s birth into the peasant class taught him about the rigid social
structures of China at a young age, as he recognized the strife peasants endured on a daily basis. He
knew how they thought and emphasized with their thirst for equity in China s rigid social society
(Calkins). As Mao grew older, his recognition of the oppressed class allowed him to develop an
affinity towards the principles of Marxism Leninism, which were utilized in restoring China to its
original greatness (Zedong qtd in Lynch 4). Mao believed that the peasants fury and desperation was
powerful enough to spark a communist revolution, leading to equality and justice in China (Lynch 3).
The peasants who were mistreated for so long rose to the occasion of Mao s advocating for their
rights. His popularity and influence among the masses of China was increased. Mao rose to power by
1949 through increased peasantry support, giving him the authorization to change China into a
communist country.
Prior to the Second Chinese Civil War, Mao gained the loyalty of the oppressed class through
presenting his ideology in a flattering fashion. Mao allowed his followers to know he recognized their
strife, and taught them the importance of confidence and violence in a revolution. He brainwashed
them with promises for a New China so they d believe he himself was

The Government Should Limit Advertising Aimed At Children
The Government Should Limit Advertising Aimed at Children
The government should exercise more control and limits on advertising that is aimed at children.
Children are the leaders of the future and the children watch on average two or more hours of
television a day. These are children s most formative years. When children form ideas that prove to be
substance of how they will think as adults.
There are several reasons why advertising aimed at young children should be banned. Advertisers and
marketers influence young children. Children are the future leaders of our world. Television
encourages them to become consumers and equate ownership of things with self worth. Thus, at an
early age, children are influenced to associate status and self worth with materialistic things. We are
producing young consumers rather that productive citizens who will add value to society. While the
government states its purpose for protecting children, in general terms, children are simply influenced
and cannot tell advertising agenda from the truth.
There are some specific and real problems that advertising can cause upon children (William A.
Ramsey). Fast food restaurant advertising it s influencing our children to be obese. Childhood obesity
around the world is causing worries, especially detrimental as its effect carries on into parenthood.
The ratio of children s who are overweight has approximately tripled in the same period, reaching

Democracy Vs Democracy
Many different ideologies have been practiced throughout history and many have failed to work. The
ideology that I think has created the most success for the government and its people is democracy. The
definition of democracy is a political system of mass participation, competitive elections, and human
and civil rights (Roskin 88). This is the clear definition of democracy, but there are many different
forms for example there is a representative democracy and illiberal democracy. These follow the same
guideline of democracy, but have there own individual definition. Unfortunately, there is no perfect

The winner would be determined by popular vote because it make things less complicated. After the
people vote the candidate in they would then be able to vote on certain issues they would like the
government to fix or get rid of. The voting would be direct because then the people would be voting
on exactly what they want. The indirect way of voting allows for the people in power to manipulate
the issue to the benefit of the government and that s not they it should be. The government would
control all of the international business that doesn t directly affect the people in my country. The
government would also be allowed to declare war if the people s safety is put in immediate danger.
They would have this power because if the country is being threatened there wouldn t be time to vote
on the issue. This ideology wouldn t be necessarily all right wing, but probably in between middle and
right on the spectrum. The people don t have total control over the government, but majority of the
power is with the people because the idea that government needs total control has created societies not
so favorable for the people.

Afghanistan American Culture
In this Paper my goal is to analyze the culture of Afghanistan and provide cultural awareness of the
region. But what is culture? Culture, as defined by Webster s Dictionary, is the arts and manifestations
of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively . However, is that really what defines a
culture? Or is there more depth to the matter altogether? The characteristics of culture are learned,
shared, symbols, integrated, and dynamic. Essentially, culture is learned; it is not something we are
born with. It is also shared, meaning that collectively as a society we practice social norms; which
enables us to generally predict another s behavior. Symbols have meaning and that meaning is
derivative of the culture that we are exposed to. The swastika, for instance, is an ancient symbol that is
sacred in Hinduism and Buddhism but in western culture represents Nazi Germany. Culture is
integrated, various aspects of culture are all interwoven in some way. Dynamic, culture is an ever
changing entity; through travel the media, and interaction with other nations, cultures are constantly
influencing one another.
Afghanistan is diverse with many different regions and beliefs. However, the country as a whole is
almost completely Muslim; comprising of 80% Sunni, 19% Shi, and only ... Show more content on

What Is Almond Production In California
Almond Production in California Almonds are one of the most loved nuts all over the world.
According to the National Writing Project, 70 percent of almonds are exported to other countries.
They can be used for milk, baking, or just flavoring up any dish. Almonds are produced in sunny
California. Unfortunately, California has been suffering through an atrocious drought. Almonds use a
great amount of water to grow, approximately 1 gallon. (Philpott) The drought is a bad thing for
almond production but also for water available to citizens as well as the other crops that farmers are
trying to grow.
Because almonds require so much water, it is putting other crops in a decline. (Philpott). According to
the article, How Almonds Became a Scapegoat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The almond industry is responsible for thousands of jobs and is a very big money maker for the
economy. If there aren t as many almonds produced, the income from these nuts will drastically drop.
Another factor is the nut itself changing. Water is a huge challenge, said Richard Waycott, chief
executive of the state almond board. The stingy water supplies resulted in smaller almonds this year.
(Pierson). People love almonds for their size and health benefits. Almonds are an excellent source of
Vitamin E, B Vitamins, Magnesium, Fiber, Calcium, Potassium, Monounsaturated Fat, and Protein
(Almond Growth Explained). This is a reason why the export of almonds overseas to other countries is
a big deal. The health benefits are key to the success of the almond. The expectations of farmers are
high to produce enough almonds to fulfill the growing demands. Even if the amount was the same, the
size of almonds would make a big difference in consumers buying them. Still, with almond prices
nearly doubling in the last five years to $2.58 a pound, it s little wonder that growers have been
abandoning crops such as cotton and furiously planting almond trees.

Lessons Learned from A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings
A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings is a short fiction story written by Gabriel Garcia Marquez in
1955. Magical realism plays a major part in this story by the use of fantasy of an old man being
portrayed as an angel who has come to create miracles to a family along with many other believers.
Some will believe, others will just shoo this so called angel away in a painful and heart breaking way.
I enjoyed this story very much. I was able to get very interested. Marquez starts it out with On the
third day of rain. That line right there is magical because angels are of God, and on the third day God s
son rose from the grave. It was the third day that Pelayo came upon ... Show more content on

Just like in this story, many people were throwing leftover foods to him, coming to him just for a
miracle, then having nothing more to do with him. They had only used him and did not see him for
who he really was. What would seem to be humiliating to me and was to the angel, I assume, was that
a priest, Father Gonzaga, sent away to Rome for a judgment on what they should do.
A human with wings was foreign to these people. Some did not believe because an angel is appeared
to be beautiful. This old man was just your average Joe with wings to many people. However, some
had paid money to see this supernatural creature. What was magical at this point was when Marquez
talks about the woman who disobeyed her parents and was changed into a spider. How magical can
this be? A woman, who is a spider the size of a ram! The angel and this woman were the main
attractions of the town. The realistic element here is obvious. For instance, in the town of Ironton,
when someone goes to use the bathroom everyone knows about it. Similarly, it did not take long for
this town to hear the news. Anyway, the woman spider ended up getting more attention because her
story was of the truth to the town and the angel was only of mocking fun. Anyhow, people had paid so
much money that Pelayo and his family became rich. They built a mansion. Their child played with
the angel. The angel and their son both came down with the chicken pox at the same time. An angel

Explain The Four Temperaments
 The four temperaments categorises personality into four types: sanguine, choleric, melancholic and
phlegmatic.  Four temperaments is a proto psychological theory that believes that individuals are
one of the four personality types.  In Ancient Greece, these four temperaments are linked to the four
body humors (blood, yellow bile, black bile and phlegm). These four humors are also believed to be
linked with the four elements (air, fire, earth and water).  It was theorised that an unproportioned
amount of these fluids resulted in sickness and disease. A well balanced amount of all the humors
resulted in a healthy body and mind. Disproportion of one of the four humor fluids determined the

My Mother Pieced Quilts
Culture influences people s perspectives of the world and others through their childhood and how,
when, and where they were raised. In the essay, An Indian Father s Plea, Robert Lake writes about
how his Indian child s traditional way of learning is different from those in western education systems
and that he s not a slow learner but learns in a unique way from his peers. In the personal essay, Two
Ways to Belong in America, Bharati Mukherjee describes her differing views of living in America
with her sister, despite both being raised in India. In the poem, My Mother Pieced Quilts, by Teresa
Palomo Acosta, Teresa how this quilt that her mother made for her incorporates all these pieces of her
past that are stitched together. In the short story, Everyday Use, a mother describes the effects of living
in a low income community and a certain style of parenting that shaped the way her two daughters
view their past and their heritage and how both views are completely different. In all these pieces of
writing, they all illustrate the effects of beliefs, heritage, and symbolism within a culture and how it
molds the way people interpret others and the world.
An example of beliefs is in An Indian Father s Plea, Robert Lake narrates the struggles of his child
adapting to a new way of learning through the quote, Wind Wolf was strapped in snugly with a
deliberate restriction... Although you in Western society may argue that such a method serves to hinder

Decriminalization Of Marijuana Essay
Cannabis or better known as Marijuana, is one of the oldest psychoactive elements used by man.
Marijuana is also known as weed, pot, ganja, Maryjane, and countless other nicknames. A little history
on marijuana is that it is made from the cannabis plant which can grow up to sixteen feet tall and
likely originates in Central Asia. There are hundreds of compounds in Marijuana but
tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC is believed to be the cause of it psychoactive effects. The high that
people get comes from the THC binding to brain regions responsible for pleasure, time perception and
pain. This plant was first brought to America in the 1800s used for medicinal purposes as an extract
and which was popular during that time. But it soon was discovered by Mexican who began to smoke
it and shortly after it fueled the marijuana prohibition and by the 1930s marijuana was banned in
twenty four states. By 1937 congress passed the Marijuana Tax Act, which effectively banned
marijuana except for a few medicinal purposes. Fast forward to this present day and time and we will
see how things have changed with Cannabis and this economy. To begin looking at the impact, price,
and prevalence, if it were to be decriminalized, you would need to estimate how demand would be
effected. With the legalization of marijuana and other substances like it not only changes the ... Show

would be minimal or nonexistent, and if the theory remains true the marginal social cost would not be
drastic since consumptions relatively remains constant. But marginal social cost brings about the issue

Child Murderer Personification
I chose the above paragraph to draw information from for my poem because the lead paragraph

disturbing topic it revolved around. Stories of child murderers are relatively uncommon and oppose
societal norms which is why I find them to be interesting. Moreover, I have always been curious to
learn more about child murderers as I do not understand why a child would want to murder their
family, which is also why I was drawn to this article. I did make one modification to the original idea

From Colin Kaepernick standing his ground to peaceful protests and marches in Ferguson, the Black

power, equality for African Americans, and justice for cops killing unprovoked. The salute dates back
to ancient Assyria as a symbol of resistance in the face of violence. (Factbox). The early 1960 s was
when the first call for Black Power was raised. This was the time where new civil rights laws were
passed and there was an urge for racial justice. In today s society black america is still calling for some
kind of power or equality. In the 1960s 70s the raised fist was used by black nationalists to raise
support and awareness for black america. Awareness for the unity of blacks. Two men in the 1968

The Atlantic Slave Trade
Everyone has their own understanding of what slavery is, but there are misconceptions about the
history of slavery . Not many people understand how the slave trade initially began. Originally Africa
had slaves but they were servants or serfs, sometimes these people could be part of the master s
family. They could own land, rise to positions of power, and even purchase their freedom. This
changed when white captains came to Africa and offered weapons, rum, and manufactured goods for
people. African kings and merchants gave away the criminals, debtors, and prisoner from rival tribes.
The demand for cheap labor was increasing, this resulted in the forced migration of over ten million
slaves. The Atlantic Slave Trade occurred from 1500 to 1880 CE. This large scale event changed the
economy and histories of many places. The Atlantic Slave Trade held a great amount of significance in
the development of America. Africans shaped America by building a solid foundation for the country.
The act of slavery was already happening in Africa prior to The Atlantic Slave Trade. The slave trade
provided no restrictions, this caused chaos in both Africa and America. Africans captured slaves and as
the demand grew getting slaves became a motivation for war. This lead to internal conflict in Africa
that can still be seen today. An article in The Abolition Project did a good job summing up this
statement, Forms of slavery existed in Africa before Europeans arrived. Some

Hurricane Katrina And Its Impact On The United States
Hurricane Katrina is considered as one of the worst hurricanes ever recorded in the history of the
United States. It was the sixth strongest Atlantic hurricane ever and the third strongest on record that
had reached the United States (Chambers, 2007). According to Brinkley (2006), the hurricane
occurred on August 29th, 2005, and had a massive physical impact on the land and to the residents of
New Orleans City .Before the hurricane; there was massive destruction of the wetlands besides
construction of canals which increased the erosion rates in the lands. After the floods, much of the city

Moreover, Brinkley (2006) observed that the hurricane indicated a clear defective levee system and
the Orleans City gave a true picture of American government s neglect, prejudice, inequalities and

the occurrence of the hurricane and after. There were several failures in the logistics concerning
disaster preparations and management, engineering malfunctions and failures as was revealed after
Hurricane Katrina (Galea Brewin, 2007). The paper tends to highlight the environmental crimes
committed before and after hurricane Katrina. The paper also vividly illustrates the lessons learned
from the disaster and possible ways of improving from the shortfalls. Lastly, it concludes the main
findings of the effects of the Hurricane Katrina.
Environment Crimes before the Hurricane Katrina
For a long time before the human driven developments along the Mississippi Delta, the Delta was well
maintained by the sediments that replenished the wetlands. These sediments helped clear the
accumulation of sands which were brought by erosions (Kessler Parker, 2006). These wetlands and
barrier islands protected the region along the Gulf Coast for thousands of years (Kirk, 2012). Over the
years, the population along the Delta region rose and most people had a negative perception on the
perennial flooding. Levees that were erected on the banks to act as protection soon become

Narrative Essay About A Tough Move
A Tough Move It was a bright and sunny day. All the kids from ages 2 12 were outside playing and
enjoying in the sun. The other middle schoolers and high schoolers were sitting inside their house in
their room and texting their friends or doing homework . My mom says that with this much
technology people have stopped communicating with their voices and are now always texting. I was in
my room doing my weekend homework, when my dad rang the family discussion bell and me and my
brother Logan came down and sat around the family discussion spot. No one spoke and it started to
feel awkward. However I didn t have the courage to talk and break the silence. Logan took his phone
out and started texting his friends. Mom finally broke the silence by saying, How is your weekend so
far? She usually says somethings like how s your day , how is your weekend , or how are you doing
with your life when she doesn t know how to start a conversation between people. Really good, I said
actually starting the conversation. So why did you call us here? My mom and dad sighed and looked at
eachother and my dad said, We have to ... move. My work got moved to Seattle. I was shocked, I had
to have misheard him, I m sorry dad, but could you please repeat that. We going to have to move to
Seattle, my dad repeated. Now I probably heard him right, but moving from Miami, Florida to Seattle,
Washington. Where did dad s job find a place across the world, I thought, if we re actually moving,
then my best friend, my school, my favorite ice cream shop, and my favorite library would all go
away. I really couldn t believe it. So we re moving from here to Seattle, Washington, I said almost
shouting. What about Cass, the ice cream, the warm weather, the beach, the library, and the swamps
and marshes. Where would all that go? Disappear into thin air? My mom sighed and looked at me, We
know that this would be hard for the two of you, but we need to be there by Monday. Dad and I

Descriptive Essay About Alone
Alone
Today seemed like fun, but when I walked out of the restroom it was the complete opposite. As I was
tidying up, I waited for my cousin Jessica. I couldn t help but stare outside of the enormous, clear
windows of the mall where there was a gigantic water fountain, sparkly and clear. Waiting and staring,
I realized that none of my other relatives were near me and my sister was gone. They probably wanted
only me to stay with Jessica, I pondered, feeling like the victim because thinking of Jessica made me
throw up inside. When I went into the restroom, I yelled, Jessica! Are you in there? No one replied.
Where could she be? I started to crawl on the cold as ice floor that made me feel like I was in a freezer
room, to look for my cousin s shoes and legs. Jessica, the annoying, wild, teenage rebel, was probably
just hiding from me. Every time I passed a stall, I would say to myself, She s probably in the other
stall, until there were no more stalls. I could barely breathe. Panicking and sweating, I walked out of
the restroom and tried to think of places where my family could ve gone to. When I exited the
restroom and turned the corner, the hallway looked more like an abandoned ghost town. Fortunately,
anyone who passed by me didn t bother to care that I was alone. Then when I realized something, my
heart sank. I had this hole in my heart that could never be replaced because I realized that I had
slipped from their minds, being forgotten. Even my own

As defined by Merriam Webster, Existentialism is, a chiefly 20th century philosophical movement
embracing diverse doctrines but centering on analysis of individual existence in an unfathomable
universe and the plight of the individual who must assume ultimate responsibility for acts of free will
without any certain knowledge of what is right or wrong or good or bad (Merriam Webster).
Logotherapy/existential analysis is based on the premise that within one s self there lies the 1)
Freedom to will, 2) will to meaning , and 3), meaning to life . (Batthyany, Alexander) Meaning to life
as it pertains to classic existential theory and logotherapy, is defined by the individual on a situational
basis. It can vary based on what is essential to the individual and their well being (Existentialism By
Branch/Doctrine, The Basics of Philosophy). Frankl concentrates on what it was that drives people to
live, and determined that those who survived the unspeakable circumstances of the Nazi camps had
been those who focused on the meaning of their lives. Frankl s psychological anthropological model
addresses the ability for others overcome

Essay on Educational Goals and Philosophies
Educational Goals and Philosophies
For the past seven years, I have had the same dream to someday be a high school math teacher. I am
finally on my way to turning that dream into a reality. Along the way, I am learning a lot of things and
forming a number of opinions. One of the main areas in which I am forming new beliefs is in relation
to what methods I will use in teaching my class and what aspects of what philosophies I will employ.
First of all, however, I must reach the point where I have a class to teach.
How am I going to reach my goal of becoming a teacher? I believe I am taking the most important
step right now by attending a good college where I am gaining further knowledge in many areas, ...

I believe these subjects are necessary for a well rounded education, and as a math teacher, I will be
teaching one of these basic subjects. I do not believe there should be a curriculum that excludes one
form or another of math. It is important for our students to know math and these other basic subjects if
we want to be able to compete with the rest of the world economically and technologically. Not only
must students sit in a class where these subjects are taught, but they also need to master the material
before they move on to the next grade. This is the job of the teacher. It is up to the teacher to make
sure that his students understand the material and can do it on their own before he moves on to
something else. I believe that the grade a student makes reflects the teacher. If a student makes an F,
the teacher has failed in his teaching of that student. This does not mean that the teacher should make
his class easy. I still agree with the essentialist that academic rigor is an essential component of
education. However, I do not agree that this necessitates a great amount of homework. The level of
work can be tough and stretch the minds of the students, but if the teacher is able to teach his students
well in class and they comprehend the material and can practice it during the class period, I do not
think a lot of homework

Classics Should Be Taught In Australia Essay
There is no hiding the fact, classics can be a challenge to read: however, does that mean we should
just forget about them?. A modern teenager wouldn t know one of the most iconic Australian songs
Waltzing Matilda . For those that do recognize the song would most likely only be able to recite the
chores, the remaining verses will be a endless monotone mumble of confusion. Furthermore, not all of
Australia s classics are being lost as and enhanced number of children recognize dreamtime stories
rather than western culture as they are being taught in primary school. There are many things that can
distract students such as technology, technology has changed the world and it is reaching new limits as
I write. The advancements of technology does have negative effects on active students and their
schooling life. Countless students would rather watch Tv than read, However this doesn t mean
reading is dying as their is an abundance of children that love reading novels. Nonetheless classics do
not pose much of an intrest to teenages as they would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Over all books are cherished by all ages and should be celebrated more throughout school as they can
broaden one s vocabulary and imagination. Classic are all around us however only so many of us can
see them, this number is growing dinner dramatically year by year. Australian Classics. When you
hear these what comes to mind? The Man from Snowy River perhaps, Waltzing Matilda or even Myles
Franklin? These names are getting abandon generation by generation. This fact is very alarming, we as
a nation have the option to bring the classics back into the curriculum or we could just simply watch
them get erased from our own culture. Bringing the classics back will help infuse the young minds of
Australia with the importance of the dying heritage that seems to be

Parent Training Intervention
Effects of Parent Training Interventions on Autism Spectrum Disorders Autism or autism spectrum
disorders (ASDS) refer to a group of autistic disorders. The common impairments that come with
autism are abnormal social development, impaired language and communication skills, and repetitive
behavior and restricted interest. Autism diagnosis have been on the rise in the last few decades, this is
likely contributed to the ability to diagnose children at a younger age, such as 2 or 3. Although there is
no cure for autism, it has been found that early behavioral treatment can improve their impairments
(Sigelman,____). Our focus will be on the effects of parent training interventions on autism. To

The therapist trained the parent to be more sensitive and responsive while communicating with the
child in hopes to reduce ill timed parent responses, in hopes to boost parent child interactions. The rest
of the intervention was based on the development of pre linguistic and early language skills. Common
parts of this intervention were repetitive language, pauses, and action routines. Each sessions was a 2
hour session and occurred once every two weeks for 6 months, followed by monthly booster sessions
for 6 months, all of these sessions were videotaped. Along with these sessions the families were asked

Education Reflection
Education is viewed differently for everyone, some think it is the easiest thing to accomplish, others
cannot last more than half an hour in a classroom without feeling lost. In my own experience, I bit off
more than I could chew when I decided to take AP Language. I went into my junior year thinking I
was going to be an amazing student and stay on top of my assignments and once they started stacking
my grade started falling. I thought the class wasn t going to be a challenge for me because I left my
sophomore honors class with an A. Boy was I wrong, half of the time the teacher would blow my
mind with knowledge then leave me in a what just happened mental state. I wasn t really grasping
what the teacher was saying. It was not the teacher s fault I just didn t pick up what she was putting
down it was like my mind was shutting down. I got to point where I wanted to drop the class. I would
be in my room trying to think of ways I could drop the class and still stay on track for my honors
diploma. I finally had the guts to go to my counselor to switch classes, but by that time it was too late.
My idiotic prideful self didn t want to go in and get help. until my grade dropped to a low C. Then I
had to choose between life and pride, because my mom wouldn t let me see the light of day if I
brought home a C. When I left the counselor s office, I thought all hope was lost there was no way in
hell I was going to get an A or B in the class. Until Mrs. Cannaday threw a rainbow into

Native Americans And The United States
The United States as we know it, since its beginning has been based on immigration. Native
Americans traveled during the Ice Age through the Bering Strait and English settlers sailed the
Atlantic. Due to unknown reasons, most of the Native societies except for the Aztecs collapse before
the arrival of the Europeans, which gives shine to the English settlements since their attainment set the
roots of our society today. More importantly, it should be recognized the diverse cultures of English
settlers since it has set the precedent for the tolerance and freedom of expression that is experienced in
the United States today. English migrated to the United States due to the lack of freedom of religion in
the Mother Land. This made the New World a setting with a mixture of different religions that were
persecuted in England. Each of the persecuted religious groups brought different cultures and as a
result settled in different regions of the American continent Atlantic coast. These settlers were
distributed through New England, the Carolinas, the Mid Atlantic, and Chesapeake. Their differences
in customs and terrain settled made for the success (or failure) of each colony.
The first English settlements are what defined the new colonies of America. Before the English settled
in the land, America was pursued over by the Spaniards. Of the several colonies that were established
the first was the Jamestown colony by Puritans. After much struggle they were able to conquer a large

History And Culture Of Peru
Peru is located in South America and is about the size of Alaska. It has an area of 496,226 square
miles and was first believed to be inhabited by migrants from Asia in 6000 BC. These inhabitants
relied on hunting and the collection of plants and fruits to stay alive. Small communities were
established by 5000 BC, and the farming of cotton, chili peppers, squash, maize (almost identical to
corn), and beans initiated. The early settlers populated mostly near the coast which allowed them to
utilize the wet climate to plant seeds. Peru was also one of the first places where potatoes were grown.
The Peruvian cuisine consists mostly of spicy dishes. Chili ( Aji in Spanish) is the most common spice
in Peru. It is used to give foods extra flavor.

Facilities Management in the Service Industry
This essay revolves around the critical evaluation of theories relating to management of
accommodations and facilities that can be utilised to help hotels design efficient and effective
processes. The key concepts such as process, efficiency, and effectiveness will be discussed while
justifying the methods of process analysis or design which will be highlighted in this essay. All these
topics will be critically evaluated in order to incorporate the operations management concepts of
quality, in the application of accommodation and facilities to add value and deliver efficient and
effective quality customer centric services.

Hence, service quality should be seen as an on going process (Pallet et al, 2003) and the above QFD
model helps incorporate guests view and take into account the heterogeneity and complexity of the
hospitality experience which was not evident in the previously built models.
At the operations management (OM) level, an output based model of seven key result areas (KRAs)
for the management of the service delivery system can be used as the analytical framework, derived
from Lockwood and Jones (1990) cited in Slack et al (2007). The managed KRAs are assets,
employees, capacity (or customers), productivity, service, income (or control), and quality. Within
each area of this model there are a range of alternative operational policies and procedures that might
be adopted to reflect the type of hospitality business, its size, and its technology. For instance, yield
management is an approach to managing capacity in hotels, especially large, chain properties (Jarvis et
al., 1998); quality control is applied largely in quick service restaurants, whereas total quality
management (TQM) has been applied to a few hotels, such as Ritz Carlton.
Quality is not an absolute term. A product can be of high or low standard, yet still be of quality. For
e.g. a small barely furnished guest room, with shared bathroom facilities is a quality product if it is
perceived by the customers as fulfilling their needs for clean and comfortable overnight
accommodation. However, such a

However, the love Tita felt in this story would also seem to be considered sublime. Tita s feelings were inhuman about Pedro. How could anyone love a person as much as Tita did and say anything? Society today has never heard of such a thing. Everyone seems to say what he or she feels or doesn t feel. It doesn t matter to him or her. Tita turned all of her feelings into cooking. The magical way Tita s feelings went into the cake batter. As she mixed it she cried and the tears dropped into it the bowl. The cake was baked, and people who ate it reflected each one s feelings toward each other. The cooking had a mystical power that seemed to have some magical realism involved because of all the strange happenings due to the cooking. However, the cooking seemed to have the essence of the sublime which involves the inhuman image of silence of the sublime. The inner feeling of a person that has a boundary or threshold inside of them ready to ignite was what happened to the shower when Tita s sister was in it. The threshold of the inner feelings of this girl was exploding. During her shower, the inner feelings of passion exploded, and flames from the passion that she was feeling caused the shower to catch on fire. In the excitement of the burning shower house, the girl ran out of the shower without any clothes, not even a towel. • 4. Discourse on Method Essay example Discourse on Method Heuresis (or invention) comprises, as Richard Lanham notes, the first of the five traditional parts of rhetorical theory, concerned with the finding and elaboration of arguments (1991: 91). In Aristotle s Rhetoric the category of heuresis included the kinds of proof available to the rhetorician, lists of valid and invalid topoi, as well as the various commonplaces the rhetorician might touch upon loci or stereotypical themes and observations ( time flies ) appropriate to a given occasion (Lanham 1991: 166 170). In a more contemporary sense heuretic is defined by the OED as the branch of logic which treats of the art of discovery or invention. Both senses of this word, along with its more familiar cognate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ulmer s book presents itself, in part, as a heuristic device for enabling such new forms of research and text production from the inventio provided by Jacques Derrida. In The Other Heading, reflecting on contemporary Europe, Derrida repeats a fundamental question posed by Paul Valery in 1939 in the wake of fascism: What are you going to do? What are you going to do today? (1992: 18, cited in Ulmer 84). Ulmer sees his work as a response, in 1992, to this call for invention. Ulmer s text also presents itself as providing a method for the contemporary paradigm (12) of poststructuralism comparable to the method Descartes provided for an emergent scientific rationalism. He is quick, however, to qualify this project for any attempt at a postmodernist method is contradictory (an impossible possibility) (25). In one of the most suggestive sections of work, the initial chapter contends that all of the manifestos of the avant garde, belong to the tradition of the discourse on method (8), and provides an analysis of the common elements comprising such discourses. They are representable for mnemonic reference by the acronym CATTt (8). C = Contrast (opposition, inversion, differentiation) A = Analogy (figuration, displacement) T = Theory (repetition, literalization) T = Target (application, purpose) t = Tale (secondary elaboration, representability) (8) Thus Descartes discourse on method ... • 6. The Mystery Of Liars By Nancy Farmer Ever since we were young we were shunned away from telling lies and were taught that it was wrong. Why is it that lying was immoral, but then as we grow up we drift away from that lesson? Many can say that we are cowards who hide behind our lies. Today there exist a white lie which states that you are telling a lie to help someone. Why do we teach our kids that lying is bad when adults lie all the time? In the quote Nancy Farmer compares the liars to rats who are cowards that hides and runs around in dark places because looking at the word lying it can gives off a vibe of a dark and lonely place. Just like rats who runs and hides in dark places, liars are basically hiding behind the shadows and living alone in their lie. From the quote I agree and disagree with the quote, where I agreed with the quote that liars are basically rats who hides and run from the truth, they don t care if it s unpleasant to others and see lying as an escape route from trouble. Where I disagree is they can t be called cowards because they might be telling a white lie and instead of being unpleasant, it can actually help the person that is receiving the lie. Getting told a lie is a very unpleasant feeling for some while for others. They have a stronger mentality and can withstand being told a lie. Personally in my opinion, being told a lie makes one feel as if they can t trust the person anymore due to the fact that they are hiding something. For the person receiving the lie it is much more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Exile In Brave New World Exile is a subject very few touch upon. Exile is never really spoken about because once you are alienated by those you once considered friends or family, a gaping hole opens and no one really knows how to explain it other than just that; a hole that can only be filled with the one place on earth you feel safe; home. When exiled, a rift opens between the individual that was cast out and their home, and family and friends. This so called rift that opens between a person and their home is evident in Brave New World with John s life. (pg 91) Although John is exiled, the experience of living on the Reservation is enlightening because he is able to step back and see how others treat one another. This helps him to develop as a character because he comes from a life full of hardships and troubling times so he understands what those who are treated poorly feel. John s attitude toward his mother is extremely protective, which builds their relationship later in the novel. John s exile came at an early age when he was born. John was born naturally rather than being hatched at the D.H.C. Natural birth is no longer accepted in the New World so when John is born he is shipped off to live on the Savage Reservation. • 14. Mao Zedong Analysis In order for a revolution to occur, it is essential to have a leader the revolutionaries can unite under; a leader as persistent as Mao Zedong. Mao s birth into the peasant class taught him about the rigid social structures of China at a young age, as he recognized the strife peasants endured on a daily basis. He knew how they thought and emphasized with their thirst for equity in China s rigid social society (Calkins). As Mao grew older, his recognition of the oppressed class allowed him to develop an affinity towards the principles of Marxism Leninism, which were utilized in restoring China to its original greatness (Zedong qtd in Lynch 4). Mao believed that the peasants fury and desperation was powerful enough to spark a communist revolution, leading to equality and justice in China (Lynch 3). The peasants who were mistreated for so long rose to the occasion of Mao s advocating for their rights. His popularity and influence among the masses of China was increased. Mao rose to power by 1949 through increased peasantry support, giving him the authorization to change China into a communist country. Prior to the Second Chinese Civil War, Mao gained the loyalty of the oppressed class through presenting his ideology in a flattering fashion. The Government Should Limit Advertising Aimed At Children The Government Should Limit Advertising Aimed at Children The government should exercise more control and limits on advertising that is aimed at children. Children are the leaders of the future and the children watch on average two or more hours of television a day. These are children s most formative years. When children form ideas that prove to be substance of how they will think as adults. There are several reasons why advertising aimed at young children should be banned. Advertisers and marketers influence young children. Children are the future leaders of our world. Television encourages them to become consumers and equate ownership of things with self worth. Thus, at an early age, children are influenced to associate status and self worth with materialistic things. We are producing young consumers rather that productive citizens who will add value to society. While the government states its purpose for protecting children, in general terms, children are simply influenced and cannot tell advertising agenda from the truth. • 20. Afghanistan American Culture In this Paper my goal is to analyze the culture of Afghanistan and provide cultural awareness of the region. But what is culture? Culture, as defined by Webster s Dictionary, is the arts and manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively . However, is that really what defines a culture? Or is there more depth to the matter altogether? The characteristics of culture are learned, shared, symbols, integrated, and dynamic. Essentially, culture is learned; it is not something we are born with. It is also shared, meaning that collectively as a society we practice social norms; which enables us to generally predict another s behavior. Symbols have meaning and that meaning is derivative of the culture that we are exposed to. The swastika, for instance, is an ancient symbol that is sacred in Hinduism and Buddhism but in western culture represents Nazi Germany. Culture is integrated, various aspects of culture are all interwoven in some way. Dynamic, culture is an ever changing entity; through travel the media, and interaction with other nations, cultures are constantly influencing one another. (Pierson). People love almonds for their size and health benefits. Almonds are an excellent source of Vitamin E, B Vitamins, Magnesium, Fiber, Calcium, Potassium, Monounsaturated Fat, and Protein (Almond Growth Explained). This is a reason why the export of almonds overseas to other countries is a big deal. The health benefits are key to the success of the almond. The expectations of farmers are high to produce enough almonds to fulfill the growing demands. Even if the amount was the same, the size of almonds would make a big difference in consumers buying them. Still, with almond prices nearly doubling in the last five years to $2.58 a pound, it s little wonder that growers have been abandoning crops such as cotton and furiously planting almond trees. ... Lessons Learned from A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings is a short fiction story written by Gabriel Garcia Marquez in 1955. A human with wings was foreign to these people. Some did not believe because an angel is appeared to be beautiful. This old man was just your average Joe with wings to many people. However, some had paid money to see this supernatural creature. What was magical at this point was when Marquez talks about the woman who disobeyed her parents and was changed into a spider. How magical can this be? A woman, who is a spider the size of a ram! The angel and this woman were the main attractions of the town. The realistic element here is obvious. For instance, in the town of Ironton, when someone goes to use the bathroom everyone knows about it. Similarly, it did not take long for this town to hear the news. Anyway, the woman spider ended up getting more attention because her story was of the truth to the town and the angel was only of mocking fun. A little history on marijuana is that it is made from the cannabis plant which can grow up to sixteen feet tall and likely originates in Central Asia. There are hundreds of compounds in Marijuana but tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC is believed to be the cause of it psychoactive effects. The high that people get comes from the THC binding to brain regions responsible for pleasure, time perception and pain. This plant was first brought to America in the 1800s used for medicinal purposes as an extract and which was popular during that time. But it soon was discovered by Mexican who began to smoke it and shortly after it fueled the marijuana prohibition and by the 1930s marijuana was banned in twenty four states. Not many people understand how the slave trade initially began. Originally Africa had slaves but they were servants or serfs, sometimes these people could be part of the master s family. They could own land, rise to positions of power, and even purchase their freedom. This changed when white captains came to Africa and offered weapons, rum, and manufactured goods for people. African kings and merchants gave away the criminals, debtors, and prisoner from rival tribes. The demand for cheap labor was increasing, this resulted in the forced migration of over ten million slaves. The Atlantic Slave Trade occurred from 1500 to 1880 CE. • 38. Narrative Essay About A Tough Move A Tough Move It was a bright and sunny day. All the kids from ages 2 12 were outside playing and enjoying in the sun. The other middle schoolers and high schoolers were sitting inside their house in their room and texting their friends or doing homework . My mom says that with this much technology people have stopped communicating with their voices and are now always texting. I was in my room doing my weekend homework, when my dad rang the family discussion bell and me and my brother Logan came down and sat around the family discussion spot. No one spoke and it started to feel awkward. However I didn t have the courage to talk and break the silence. Logan took his phone out and started texting his friends. Mom finally broke the silence by saying, How is your weekend so far? She usually says somethings like how s your day , how is your weekend , or how are you doing with your life when she doesn t know how to start a conversation between people. Really good, I said actually starting the conversation. So why did you call us here? My mom and dad sighed and looked at eachother and my dad said, We have to ... move. My work got moved to Seattle. I was shocked, I had to have misheard him, I m sorry dad, but could you please repeat that. We going to have to move to Seattle, my dad repeated. Now I probably heard him right, but moving from Miami, Florida to Seattle, Washington. Where did dad s job find a place across the world, I thought, if we re actually moving, then my best friend, my school, my favorite ice cream shop, and my favorite library would all go away. I really couldn t believe it. So we re moving from here to Seattle, Washington, I said almost shouting. What about Cass, the ice cream, the warm weather, the beach, the library, and the swamps and marshes. Where would all that go? Disappear into thin air? My mom sighed and looked at me, We know that this would be hard for the two of you, but we need to be there by Monday. Dad and I already booked the tickets and we re leaving on Sunday. We ve already packed our stuff and all you guys have to do is pack your stuff and say all the goodbyes today. We also got you guys out off school. WE RE ARE LEAVING ON SUNDAY, Logan shouted. ... • 39. Descriptive Essay About Alone Alone Today seemed like fun, but when I walked out of the restroom it was the complete opposite. As I was tidying up, I waited for my cousin Jessica. I couldn t help but stare outside of the enormous, clear windows of the mall where there was a gigantic water fountain, sparkly and clear. Waiting and staring, I realized that none of my other relatives were near me and my sister was gone. They probably wanted only me to stay with Jessica, I pondered, feeling like the victim because thinking of Jessica made me throw up inside. When I went into the restroom, I yelled, Jessica! Are you in there? No one replied. Where could she be? I started to crawl on the cold as ice floor that made me feel like I was in a freezer room, to look for my cousin s shoes and legs. Jessica, the annoying, wild, teenage rebel, was probably just hiding from me. Every time I passed a stall, I would say to myself, She s probably in the other stall, until there were no more stalls. I could barely breathe. Panicking and sweating, I walked out of the restroom and tried to think of places where my family could ve gone to. When I exited the restroom and turned the corner, the hallway looked more like an abandoned ghost town. Fortunately, anyone who passed by me didn t bother to care that I was alone. Then when I realized something, my heart sank. I had this hole in my heart that could never be replaced because I realized that I had slipped from their minds, being forgotten. Even my own ... As defined by Merriam Webster, Existentialism is, a chiefly 20th century philosophical movement embracing diverse doctrines but centering on analysis of individual existence in an unfathomable universe and the plight of the individual who must assume ultimate responsibility for acts of free will without any certain knowledge of what is right or wrong or good or bad (Merriam Webster). Logotherapy/existential analysis is based on the premise that within one s self there lies the 1) Freedom to will, 2) will to meaning , and 3), meaning to life . (Batthyany, Alexander) Meaning to life as it pertains to classic existential theory and logotherapy, is defined by the individual on a situational basis. It can vary based on what is essential to the individual and their well being (Existentialism By Branch/Doctrine, The Basics of Philosophy). Frankl concentrates on what it was that drives people to live, and determined that those who survived the unspeakable circumstances of the Nazi camps had been those who focused on the meaning of their lives. • 41. Essay on Educational Goals and Philosophies Educational Goals and Philosophies For the past seven years, I have had the same dream to someday be a high school math teacher. I am finally on my way to turning that dream into a reality. Along the way, I am learning a lot of things and forming a number of opinions. One of the main areas in which I am forming new beliefs is in relation to what methods I will use in teaching my class and what aspects of what philosophies I will employ. First of all, however, I must reach the point where I have a class to teach. How am I going to reach my goal of becoming a teacher? I believe I am taking the most important step right now by attending a good college where I am gaining further knowledge in many areas, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe these subjects are necessary for a well rounded education, and as a math teacher, I will be teaching one of these basic subjects. I do not believe there should be a curriculum that excludes one form or another of math. It is important for our students to know math and these other basic subjects if we want to be able to compete with the rest of the world economically and technologically. Not only must students sit in a class where these subjects are taught, but they also need to master the material before they move on to the next grade. This is the job of the teacher. It is up to the teacher to make sure that his students understand the material and can do it on their own before he moves on to something else. I believe that the grade a student makes reflects the teacher. If a student makes an F, the teacher has failed in his teaching of that student. This does not mean that the teacher should make his class easy. I still agree with the essentialist that academic rigor is an essential component of education. However, I do not agree that this necessitates a great amount of homework. The level of work can be tough and stretch the minds of the students, but if the teacher is able to teach his students well in class and they comprehend the material and can practice it during the class period, I do not think a lot of homework ... • 42. Classics Should Be Taught In Australia Essay There is no hiding the fact, classics can be a challenge to read: however, does that mean we should just forget about them?. A modern teenager wouldn t know one of the most iconic Australian songs Waltzing Matilda . For those that do recognize the song would most likely only be able to recite the chores, the remaining verses will be a endless monotone mumble of confusion. Furthermore, not all of Australia s classics are being lost as and enhanced number of children recognize dreamtime stories rather than western culture as they are being taught in primary school. There are many things that can distract students such as technology, technology has changed the world and it is reaching new limits as I write. The advancements of technology does have negative effects on active students and their schooling life. • 44. Education Reflection Education is viewed differently for everyone, some think it is the easiest thing to accomplish, others cannot last more than half an hour in a classroom without feeling lost. In my own experience, I bit off more than I could chew when I decided to take AP Language. I went into my junior year thinking I was going to be an amazing student and stay on top of my assignments and once they started stacking my grade started falling. I thought the class wasn t going to be a challenge for me because I left my sophomore honors class with an A. Boy was I wrong, half of the time the teacher would blow my mind with knowledge then leave me in a what just happened mental state. I wasn t really grasping what the teacher was saying. It was not the teacher s fault I just didn t pick up what she was putting down it was like my mind was shutting down. I got to point where I wanted to drop the class. I would be in my room trying to think of ways I could drop the class and still stay on track for my honors diploma. I finally had the guts to go to my counselor to switch classes, but by that time it was too late. My idiotic prideful self didn t want to go in and get help. until my grade dropped to a low C. Then I had to choose between life and pride, because my mom wouldn t let me see the light of day if I brought home a C. When I left the counselor s office, I thought all hope was lost there was no way in hell I was going to get an A or B in the class. Until Mrs. Cannaday threw a rainbow into ... Hence, service quality should be seen as an on going process (Pallet et al, 2003) and the above QFD model helps incorporate guests view and take into account the heterogeneity and complexity of the hospitality experience which was not evident in the previously built models. At the operations management (OM) level, an output based model of seven key result areas (KRAs) for the management of the service delivery system can be used as the analytical framework, derived from Lockwood and Jones (1990) cited in Slack et al (2007). The managed KRAs are assets, employees, capacity (or customers), productivity, service, income (or control), and quality. Within each area of this model there are a range of alternative operational policies and procedures that might be adopted to reflect the type of hospitality business, its size, and its technology. For instance, yield management is an approach to managing capacity in hotels, especially large, chain properties (Jarvis et al., 1998); quality control is applied largely in quick service restaurants, whereas total quality management (TQM) has been applied to a few hotels, such as Ritz Carlton. Quality is not an absolute term. A product can be of high or low standard, yet still be of quality.
