Small Town Essay

This Small Town Means Business: Improving Local Economy When you grow up in a small town
the one thing that is the most difficult to withstand is boredom. At least, that s how it is for the
youth of the area. However, when you look at it from an older and more mature perspective you
might realize that the main issue with some small towns is job availability, as well as the town s
revenue for different projects, etc. Recently my hometown has been undertaking a few different
projects that will really benefit the area and it s economy. The youth league softball program has
grown tremendously within the past few years. Due to that improvement, Sallisaw was chosen to
host a state tournament. Which was wonderful until we realized that our softball complex was not
best suited for a tournament of this magnitude. This is when talk began on building an entirely new
sports complex for all of the youth league sports in the area. One other issue arose through hosting
this tournament. Out of sixty three teams who were in the tournament last summer, only one team
stayed in Sallisaw. The rest of the teams were sent to stay in hotels here in Fort Smith, all because
the hotels that are located in Sallisaw did not have an indoor swimming pool. The teams would
rather make a thirty minute commute than stay in a hotel that does not have a swimming pool. The
next project Sallisaw is undertaking is bringing in a well known hotel

A Look at the Final Chapter of Timothy Glander’s Book,...
The final chapter of Timothy Glander s book, Origins of Mass Communications Research During
the American Cold War: Educational Effects and Contemporary Implications (2000) stands as a
disappointing example of academic research becoming hijacked by the author s personal opinion.
Focusing on the hidden nature of propaganda in American life, his concluding chapter presents a
very drastic view of the individuals who crafted the academic subject now known as mass
communications. I see the need for investigating the status quo, for digging into the motivations
behind the images and data churned out in the mass media, and for questioning the trivia facts that
become common knowledge. For that reason, I am wary of completely discrediting the... Show

Circling any solid thesis, he claims that generations of Americans have been brainwashed by mass
communications, ruining any genuine community life (2000, p. 214), a vague picture of the pre
Cold War era that never becomes defined. The Cold War era may have featured significant changes
in the way American communities functioned, but summoning up a sitcom image instead of
genuine examples to support one of his key arguments simply weakens his case. His one clearly
stated goal is to revive the association of the phrase mass communications with the word
propaganda a word that appears thirty times in these fourteen pages.
Making the unfortunate choice of attempting to eliminate detractors of his claim without
addressing their concerns, Glander frames them as being lost in the propaganda of their time. His
claim, people still remain largely unable to...understand the powerful ways in which [television] is
used to shape and control their thinking (2000, p. 207) means every generation since the Cold War
is so permeated by mass communications that they are now incapable of external analysis. Using
this logic, critics of his argument are brainwashed by this new establishment, a victim of social
control that they cannot see or change, leaving us in a vicious circle at the mercy of the media.
Two accompanying book reviews echo my concerns with this logic. Found in History of Education
Quarterly (2001) and

equity market not abruptly, at once, but slowly at different times and at different levels. This has
the effect of averaging out the risks associated with the equity market, thus reducing the overall
risk you face. In this option some proportion of the fund value is automatically switched from
debt dominated fund to equity dominated fund on regular basis. Automatic Asset Allocation
(AAA): This option helps the customer to automatically decrease the exposure to equity and
increase the exposure to dept, as policy holder grow older. This option relies on the fact that an
individual s risk appetite reduces with age and he tends to be more conservative with his
investment. This option provides you the flexibility of leveraging the returns from equity s market

Write An Essay On Pleural Effusion
In layman s terms, pleural effusion is simply fluid in the pleural space. However, pleural
effusion is so much more than that. It is caused by a variety of mechanisms, has two different
classifications, and can cause varying degrees of symptoms and complications. Patients with
pleural effusion are ripe for diagnostic radiography, as it is often the best source of information
about their condition and it s severity. Pleural effusion is defined by Liz Allibone as an abnormal
collection of fluid in the pleural space caused by a variety of mechanisms. The pleural space is a
cavity between the chest wall and the lung that consists of two layers, the parietal pleura and the
visceral pleura. These two layers normally have pleural fluid within them to reduce friction during
respiration. Allibone quotes about normal pleural fluid levels that ...it is suggested that there is

Pleural effusion has two major classifications: transudates and exudates. Transudate pleural
effusions usually present bilaterally and are caused by a larger, systemic condition that does not
effect the porousness of the pleural capillaries. An example of a systemic condition that would
cause a transudate pleural effusion would be left ventricular failure. Exudate pleural effusions
normally present unilaterally and occur when there is a change in porousness of the pleural
capillaries. These types of pleural effusions are much more common and can range in cause from a
side effect to certain medicines to a respiratory infection such as pneumonia. They can also be
caused by trauma, which produces a hemothorax, or blood in the pleural

Equality In Early Generations In The United States
Earlier generations who migrated from other countries that came to start a new life had many
things to accomplish. At the start of the migration, people and settlers came for a new beginning
and also a fresh start at life itself. With that tough task at hand, it also came with a price, such as
equality, fighting for rights, the constant need for change and following a movement. During
this essay I will be able to shed some light and point of views on equality on generations, political
pressure, engaging in strikes and the division in social classes. In earlier generations, equality
was not a topic that was very popular. If you were born into a poor family, chances are that you
yourself were going to fall into that blood life for decades... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

If the bosses are corrupt and control the majority of how things operate, then there is no voice
among the poor and middle class people. If they are employing me 80 90 percent of my day and
not letting me or my people utilize the public subways or common things that everyone else is,
they are essentially trying to contain us, so that we are so unprivileged and exhausted we
wouldn t put up a fight. They are also limiting us in giving us access to what was once
considered public . The social classes are divided in this perspective, if you knew or know
someone of power them you belonged and if you didn t, then in turn you were looked down upon
as someone with no rights. In conclusion the equality of earlier generations was really never
established until people began to rebel and make it noticeable. A strike would only be necessary if
the bosses where not corrupt and not control the public uses of everything that was once common.
Finally, with the division of social classes would have change if at the beginning of time there

Project #2
Project #2 Conic Sections Conic sections are the various gemetric figures created by the
interection of a plane. They are among the oldest curves in history and is one of the oldest area
of study for mathmaticians. conics were discovered by Menaechmus (c. 375 325 BC), a Greek
pupil of Plato and Exodus. He was trying to solve the famous problem duplicating a cube. Euclid
studied them and Appollonius reinforced and expanded previous results of conics into a book he
named Conic Sections. It is a series of eight books with 487 propositions. He applied his findings
to the study of planetary motion and it was used to advance the development of Greek astronomy. It

In some cases, the circle is listed as a fourth conic. A circle is really a unique ellipse. Conics have
very unique features. For instance curves can also be defined using a straight line, the directrix,
and a point called the focus. If you measure the distance from the focus to a point on the curve,
and perpendicularly from the directrix to that point. The two distances will always be the same
ratio for an ellipse the ratio is less than 1, for a parabola the ratio is 1, and for a hyperbola the ratio
is greater than 1. These ratios are known as the eccentricity, so we can say that any conic sectionis
all points whose distance to the focus is equal to the eccentricity times the distance to the
directrix. A circle has an eccentricity of zero, an ellipse has an eccentricity between 0 and 1, a
parabola has an eccentricity of 1, and a hyperbola has an eccentricity greater than 1.
Ellipse is known by its focal definition: it s a locus of all points P in the plane the sum of whose
distances from two fixed points F1 and F2, the foci, has a constant value. The Belgian
mathematician G. P. Dandelin in 1822 gave a beautiful proof of a conic section is a finite shape
then it is always an ellipse. First imagine a huge sphere S1 inside a cone. Let the sphere be so big
as to not touch the cutting plane. Assume it touches the cone over the circle k1. Shrink the sphere
S1 (suck it into the cone) until it touches the plane at point F1.

Persuasive Essay On Head Start
Head Start Programs:
All Children Deserve the Same Chance at an Education Head Start programs came about in
1964; when President Johnson declared a war on poverty. His idea was you must break the
cycle of poverty to win the war. The program s idea was to help break the cycle of poverty by,
providing the children of low income families the ability to meet the emotional, social, health,
nutrition, and mental needs. The Parents also are offered resources in higher education, paying
utilities, and other needs that are essential to succeed. According to The Basic Head Start Facts
Sheet 2011, Head Start is the nation s first national early education and early childcare program.
Since then over thirty two million children have had assistance with the program; therefore, has
caused an increase of twenty eight percent in High School Graduations (Smith 8). Head Starts main
goal is to lower the achievement gap between lower class and middle class children.
Being born in poverty and the disadvantages Smith states that children who are born into poverty
already have a disadvantage. The journal Why Investments in Early Childhood work, 2011,
shows that these children are twenty five percent more likely to drop out of school, forty percent
more likely to become a teen parent, and seventy percent more likely to commit a violent crime in
their life. Therefore, the cycle needs to end. We need to educate ourselves so our children can
succeed, and live a better life than we had. Abbott Shim

promising to increase lean muscle mass and strength. Further down, he finds energy pills,
chews, and drinks purporting to deliver the most intense and hardcore workout of his life. He
even finds supplements promising to increase his sexual performance (wink, ExtenZe). The
supplements give him a glimpse into his future: arms the size of 22 inch Escalade rims, a
barreling chest, legs so enormous that his friends call him quadzilla, and bodacious babes lots of
them. He grasps as many supplements that his two string bean (soon to be gigantic python) arms
can carry. He is on his way to Arnold Schwarzenegger status. Who is this young, dashing teen?

Case Study Analysis Paper 1: A Tale of Two Coaches
Based on our learning from week one of our class, the purpose of this paper is to discuss the
leadership perspectives manifested in both Bobby Knight and Mike Krzyzewski, coaches who have
made significant marks in their field in college basketball. I hope to be able to identify the power
bases both coaches rely upon, as well as whether their actions are more aligned with either a
managerial role or leadership role. In addition, I hope to identify how significant the leadership
traits have influenced their leadership, based on the five factor ... Show more content on

Coach K clearly shows all the traits of agreeableness, which is the extent to which a person is
generous, kind, appreciative, sympathetic, forgiving, and trusting. Also both coaches can be said
to be conscientiousness, as they are efficient, organized, reliable, responsible, and thorough in
their pursuit of excellence. Coach Knight clearly displays neuroticism and his unstable, self
pitying, touchy, anxious, tense, and worrisome attitude comes clearly through as displayed
through rants and berating of his players. I can also agree that both coaches are open to
experience, as their coaching skills although one hundred and eighty degrees apart, do show signs
of introspective, imaginative, insightful, and originality, and both have a wide range of interests
outside of basketball. In conclusion, Although Coach K was originally mentored by Coach
Knight as both a player and as an assistant coach; they both have adopted different styles of
leadership. They appear to be almost polar opposites, yet have both managed to have done well in
their respective field. As the late Emanuel Rohn once said, The challenge of leadership is to be
strong but not rude; be kind, but not weak; be bold, but not a bully; be humble, but not timid; be
proud, but not arrogant; have humor, but without folly . If only Coach Knight had followed this
simple statement, how much further would he have gone?

Similarities Between Fast Food Nation And The Jungle
Both chapter eight of Fast Food Nation and the excerpt from The Jungle depict gruesome images
of the reality of a meat factory. These passages were written by muckrakers who felt it was their
duty to expose the truth of the food industry to the American people. The authors tried to express
the same messages in these pieces; through the use of diction and characterization, Upton Sinclair
and Eric Schlosser are able to convey to the public the horrors of the meatpacking industry and the
treatment of its employees. The use of language is an adequate manner of showing the reader
the author s point of view on a situation or topic without declaring it outright. Upton Sinclair and
Eric Schlosser use effective diction to give the reader a sense of the horror that goes on within
the industries and their emotions while being witness to it. When reading closely, it is obvious
that the word choices of the authors are pushing the reader to also view these scenarios as
horrific and inhumane. In Fast Food Nation, Schlosser writes, On the kill floor, what I see no
longer unfolds in a logical manner. It s one strange image after another. A worker with a power
saw slices cattle into halves as though they were two by fours, and then the halves swing by me
into the cooler. There are many keywords in this excerpt that paint an awful scene in the reader s
mind. Firstly and perhaps most importantly, using the term kill floor to describe the setting
automatically gives a negative connotation. Kill floor is extremely cacophonous, and Schlosser
purposefully did not choose to find a euphemistic counterpart to use instead; the reader can
easily imagine what goes on at a kill floor . He also writes that the events unfolded in an illogical
manner . This denotes that there is chaos and disorder within the factory, thus forcing the reader
to conclude that the events occurring are doing so with no supervision and are possibly
hazardous. Finally, Schlosser describes the employee s work as slicing with a power saw and
cutting the cattle in halves, which then swing by the cooler. Reading of something being sliced
with a power saw gives the reader an instant image of a reckless cut through something with a
mighty tool, which shows the

Double Standards In Our Justice System The Judicial System has always been something that
interests me, because there are always two sides to a story but you can only support one side
and do your best to make sure it is the one that wins. One reason why I have always had a passion
for the law is because living in Egypt you get to see how corrupt things can get, and I believe this
is part of why I am who I am today, since experiencing this made me become a very confident
person knowing when and how to stand up for myself and not stop until I achieve what I have
aimed for. That being said, I have always believed that the richer you are the more lenient the
judicial system will be with you, in other words if you come from a wealthy family your chances of
getting sentenced to prison are much slimmer than if you are from a poor family. I just recently
started reading a book called The Rich Get Richer and The Poor Get Prison which inspired me to
persuade you why I believe that the way we incarcerate people must change; we need to look
beyond the background they come from, and start sentencing people based on their crimes. Ethan
Couch a Texas teen was sentenced to 10 years of probation by Judge Jean Boyd a State District
Judge after killing four innocent people while driving under the influence of alcohol. His lawyer

Starch, Dextran, And Cellulose
Starch, dextran, and cellulose are all made up of glucose but differ in the arrangement the glucose
molecules. Starch is made of large polysaccharide chains that are arranged in a semi crystalline
form. The glucose in dextran is composed in a linear pattern, the chains are very straight. Lastly in
cellulose, glucoseis packed tightly together in a parallel formation.
Glycogen is a branched polymer consisting of multiple side chains. The glucose is linked together
using a (1 4) glyosidic bonds. The branches of the polysaccharide is linked via a (1 6) glyosidic

Nino Vs The Jewel Exchange Summary
Nino vs The Jewelry Exchange The legal agenda in the case of Nino vs The Jewelry Exchange was
that the defendant, Rajae Nino made allegations to his employer that he was being discriminated on
the account of his gender and nationality. The primary stipulation to this case was that Nino had
signed a contract that was unconscionable. The primary function of this agreement gave most of the
power to The Jewelry Exchange. The Court of Appeals decided that the arbitration agreements did
not favor their employee. The definition of unconscionable from Webster s Dictionary states,
excessive, unreasonable . What is means for a contract to be unconscionable is that contractually,
the contract is very one sided and extremely favors one party over another. Procedural
unconscionability is the conditions and the procedures that are within the contract results in various
inequalities such as age, intelligence, and relative bargaining power. When a contract is
substantively unconscionable it means that that actual terms of the contract are unfair, oppressive
or harsh. Cases such as Nino vs The Jewelry Exchange showed that the terms if the contract were
ambiguous and suspect, this was one of the primary reasons that the Court of Appeals ruled in Nino
s favor. One example that the contract that Nino signed that the agreement was procedurally
unconscionable can be accessed in Article IV of the contract. Article IV was described as the sole,

are many different themes but i do believe that this is a major and important theme. This proves
that The Veldt shows that obsession can turn into madness. One reason that The Veldt shows
obsession and madness is because of the way the kids only spend time in the Veldt. Therefore, the
kids need more family time. They are so obsessed with the African Savanna they d

Why Boys Don t Play With Dolls By Katha Pollitt And Silko...
In our society today, there are many ways identity plays a role in how people live their lives, as
well as how people are viewed or treated by others. A big part of a person s identity comes from
their gender. Men and women are raised differently, whether it be their beliefs and ways of
thinking, how they view their future, or the actions they choose to take throughout their lifetime.
In both Katha Pollitt and Silko s essays, they discuss the differences in the lives of men and
women and how these differences result from society s expectations by using metaphors and life
examples to explain their message to the reader, as well as allow the reader to connect to this
message.
In Why Boys Don t Play With Dolls, Pollitt writes about the differences between growing up as a
boy growing up as a girl. She brings up the stereotypes that society naturally creates between
genders in early ages, which leads to the lifestyle and path that boys and girls are raised in.
Parents and feminist alike play a big part in establishing these sex roles. They raise their kids
wanting them to be successful at what they are expected to be good at based on their gender and the
trend that has been set before them.
In an excerpt from Pollitt s essay, she references a metaphor of the lives of boys and girls through a
doll and a truck, as well as Mars and Venus when she says, A girl with a doll and a boy with a truck
explain why men are from Mars and women are from Venus, why wives do housework and

Exploring Anti-Semitism in the Gospel of Matthew Essay
The issue between the Gospel of Matthew and Judaism is a convoluted one. The picture that
emerges when talking about whether Jesus s teaching is anti Semitic or not becomes ambivalent
and it is not easy to interpret, as Coogan has pointed out, Matthew functions as a bridge between the
two Testaments . . . (Coogan, 1746). In the context of Jewish Christian dialogue, the fundamental
question is how much of Judaisms principles and practices ascribed to Jesusare preserved from
traditional Judaism? As much as Matthew s Gospel has been considered to be an extremely anti
Semitic, especially in the Christian realm, there remains substantial evidence indicating how Jesus,
as presented by Matthew, had preserved the quintessence of Judaism.... Show more content on

When his mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was
found to be with child from the Holy Spirit (Matthew 1:18). Lastly, to complete the prophecy of
Jesus s birth, Matthew reaffirms that . . . Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea . . . (Matthew
2.1). Matthew inserts these assertions to emphasize the credulity of Jesus tie with traditional
Judaism. After exhibiting the interconnecting story of Jesus birth to the prophecy, Matthew
continues to portray how Jesus theology and teachings are founded on the commandments. As
Professor Smarr asserted, Jesus is seen more of a moral religious teacher (Smarr 18 January
2012) rather than a warrior king who will vanquish the Romans (Smarr 18 January 2012) as
demonstrated in Mark s Gospel. After accumulating a small group of Jewish followers, he begins
to preach what is known as the Sermon on the Mount. In one of the descriptions, he stated that
other should not think . . . that [I] have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have not to
abolish but to fulfill (Matthew 5:17). He unquestionably declares that he grounds his teachings on
the established Jewish laws. On top of that, he reinforces it by telling the crowd that whoever
breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, will be called
least in the kingdom of heaven . . . (Matthew 5:19). These laws are in no way replacements for the

Zora Neale Hurston Accomplishments
Considered one of the most important writers of the twentieth century African American literature,
Zora Neale Hurston successfully paved the way for future prominent writers. Through dedication
and hardships in her life, she is famously recognized as an important person during the 1920s for
her writing and role in the Harlem Renaissance. (Zora.com)
Zora Neale Hurston was born January 7, 1891 in Notasulga, Alabama and later moved to
Eatonville, Florida. She lived a happy childhood in her 8 room house and 7 siblings. As a child,
she was raised in an all black community, therefore was never exposed to discrimination. Black
achievement flourished in her town, including her father and mother. Zora s father, John Hurston,
formulated laws. Zora s mother Lucy Ann Hurston aided in churches as a director of the christian
curricula. However, following the death of her mother in 1904, Zora s life shifted. Her father
quickly remarried, resulting in a difficult relationship in which he no longer had the time or money
for his children. (Gradesaver)

The 1952 And 1986 Adaptation Of Oscar Wilde s Play
Is your reaction to the reenacted scenes different than to the written one? My reaction to the
2001 film is not much different from how I read the play myself. That is until I reached the end
of the film. Things became seemingly different from what I would have expected. The 1952 and
1986 interpretations of Oscar Wilde s play were more elegant than the 2001 film. My reaction to
this version was much different from my initial perspective. This interpretation of the play
seems to be presented in a more serious and dramatic manner. In what ways did both
interpretations change the original? Was it a change for the better or worse in your opinion?
The 2001 interpretation of Oscar Wilde s play seemed to be portrayed similarly to how I
originally perceived. However, there are a few comedic scenes added for the enjoyment of the
audience. The film portrays Miss Prism running away and fainting due to a shock of grief endured
so unexpectedly. The scene makes for an exaggerated yet amusing scene. In my opinion, this scene
made the interpretation better. In fact, her running away build excitement and curiosity up. I also
enjoyed the scene of John and Algernon serenading the girls, in hopes that they would come down
and forgive the two of them. This light hearted scene helped make their dilemma more enjoyable
and less upsetting. The 1952 and 1986 version of The Importance of Being Earnest were not as
funny as the other interpretation. The scene of Lady Augusta on her way to find

There are unquestionable sections of offences taken into consideration when determining the facts
and giving orders in court. These can be an action of wrong doing or a crime which an individual
did up to his/her choice without a conscious thought. Diminished responsibility can minimise a
crime from a maximum sentence of murder to a lower sentence of manslaughter. Diminished
responsibility involves a person murdering another person and the person who committed the
crime will not be declared guilty of murder, but will be declared mentally unstable. For example, a
less advanced state of mind or someone who might have been involved in an accident and his or

The Ethics Of Environmental Ethics
Environmental Ethics This research will be based on two types of theories. These theories will
be the guiding approaches that will be used in order to come up with the real issue at hand and
also be able to provide a solution for the same. The first of the two approaches will be
deontological approach and the other will be utilitarianism approach. Therefore, to better
understand how to use these two approaches, it is better to first discuss them briefly and have a
better understanding of what they are. Deontological Approach Deontological comes from two
Greek word. The first word is deon which when interpreted means duty or responsibility. This
word is used to mean what one ought to do or is obligated to do. The other word is logos which
when interpreted means study. Therefore, this may be literally be interpreted as the duty of study
or the responsibility to study. Deontological is a normative theory which examines the choices we
make and regards which one are morally required or permitted or which one are forbidden
(Cohen,1997). Deontological theorists are those theorists who judge our actions on what we are
supposed or should do and not what we may do. They judge these actions of what we ought to do
regardless of the consequences of the action. These means that the actions are not justified by the
consequences but rather by themselves. One ought not to examine what they are obligated to do on
the basis of the results the action will bring but rather on the actions

Negative Effects Of Animal Cruelty
Animals are the second most wonderful creature on the earth by God after the birth of humans.
They are not just a part of our food circle while they are also good as a friend like dogs or cats for

Student Debt Crisis And The Housing Crisis
There is a critical financial trend in the United States: student debt is at an all time high. For the
first time in mid 2013, student debt rose to 830 billion, surpassing the credit card debt (Clemmitt).
Many economists and scholars compare the student debt crisis to the housing bubble, which
resulted in a nationwide recession 2008. In a senate hearing regarding the current student debt
crisis, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan said, The warning signs are there, just like they were
before the housing crisis, and congress needs to act before it is too late (Bidwell). After graduation,
many students find it difficult to repay their debt, due to the bleak job market. According to a report
published on the financial website Smart money, ten percent student loans borrowers defaulted in
2010 (Clemmitt). The percent was larger for students that attended a for profit educational
institution, like a career college; fifteen percent of these students defaulted (Clemmitt). Although
the default rates do not contribute to the increasing student debt, one can compare it to the
mortgage crisis when people stopped paying their mortgages and the American economy crashed.
This exemplifies the critical problem that the student debt bubble if burst; it can have devastating
impacts on the vulnerable American economy. Three causes for the increase in student debt are due
to recent trends in college attendance, the increase of for profit colleges and the rise of tuition due
to spending

Analysis Of The Book Win Friends And Influence People
How to Win Friends and Influence People delivers an in depth and holistic perspective on human
relationships. The premise of the novel is essentially building relationships and its aim is to help
the reader accomplish exactly what is stated in the title; win friends and influence people. Written
by Dale Carnegieand first published in 1937, the novel was a product of the Dale Carnegie
Course in Effective Speaking. His courses were so popular, publishers realized that people skills
are a prized commodity to people from all walks of life and there would be a huge market for a
manual in developing this skillset. Credited as one of the first best selling self help books ever
published, this novel has served as an exceptional resource to generations of people around the
world. The longevity and relevance of the novel is a testament to the consistency of human
relations. The book was slightly revised for its later publications so some original features have
been omitted, I will be reviewing its recent 2005 publication.
What is so unique and impressive about the book is that it s written in a manner that effectively
breaks down exactly how the reader should behave and the characteristics the reader should

Guilds Of Saint Luke Guild
Introduction
Guilds of Saint Luke were one of the common guilds in the history of the art market in Early
Modern Europe especially in the Low Countries, which played a significant role in the history of
art. To understand the social and economic effects on art we come across with guilds especially in
the art field, St. Luke guild, which was established in many Dutch cities to protect the right of
painters by making regulations.
By 1829 nothing was left from prior mid 18th century (1750), possibly as a result of destroying
documents in the Weighing House the chamber of the Guild of Saint Luke (the Waag , in

The Dutch economic boom provided a demand for luxury items like paintings. (Price, 2012, pp104)
A vast number of paintings in Holland were painted in the 17th century. (Price, 2012). In 1609,
after the Twelve Years Truce, borders were opened to imported products from the south including
paintings which sometimes were poor quality and high volume. Therefore new guilds of St Luke
or similar organisations were established in Gouda and Rotterdam in 1609 and in Delft and Utrecht
in 1611. These four guilds aimed first and foremost to protect indigenous painters against imports
from the South. (Stephen, 2008, pp152 153). Craft guilds helped improving production and
productivity by more complex products and applying new technology . (Epstein and Prak, 2008,

How Can Hybrid Cars Have Affected The Automobile Industry
Hybrid and electric cars have affected the automobile industry by using alternative energies other
than fuel and reducing the amount of carbon dioxide that is emitted into the atmosphere. Like
everything, there are many advantages and disadvantages to having a hybrid or an electric car.
The first electric car was built in Scotland by Robert Anderson in 1839. (Berman, 2011) Over the

Nowadays, most modern electric cars contain a lithium ion battery. Some electric cars do still
use the lead acid battery and gas powered cars also use the lead acid battery to help start the
engines. (Shahan, 2014) Like the hybrid car, the electric car has a lot of advantages to owning
one as well. One of the huge advantages to owning an electric car is that zero gas if required for
the car to run. (Rinkesh, 2016) So instead of potentially spending thousands of dollars on gas
each year, you could end up spending as less as five hundred forty dollars a year to charge your
vehicle. It is also possible to get money back from the government for going green and using an
electric car. (Campbell, 2014) The electric car is also a great advantage for the environment.
Since the electric car doesn t use gas and runs on a fully electric powered engine, they are very
eco friendly. They don t emit any toxic gases, smoke, or any other fumes into the atmosphere.
(Rinkesh, 2016) This makes the electric car even better than the hybrid car because the hybrid car

Examples Of Machiavellian Characters In The Governor
Machiavellian Character Essay: The Governor Brian Blake, also known as The Governor,
presented a terror far greater than cannibalistic zombies throughout seasons two and three of the
hit show, The Walking Dead. He was psychotic; driven mad by the death of his daughter. Using
his position as governor within a small group of survivors and refugees of the zombie
apocalypse, he manipulated, terrorized, lied, cheated, many people in order to secure and
maintain his position of power. Out of the list given in the prompt for this paper, The Governor
matches at least seven of the twelve Machiavellian characteristics. The concepts exhibited most
strongly in The Governor, however, are the concepts of the end justifies the means and the use of
force to avoid danger. In the midst of a zombie apocalypse, the prioritization of self preservation
above all else is understandable. However, even when he had the resources to help himself and
nearly 100 other people, The Governor still slaughtered people who posed even the slightest threat
to his position of power. Machiavelli writes for although the act condemn the doer, the end may
justify him. This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Description Of Key Theories And Ideas Essay
Description of Key Theories and Ideas Motivation During his lifetime, Abraham Maslow s work
revolved around studying motivation and needs. He was the creator of the theory of
motivation. This theory was originated off of the idea of having self actualizing needs that have
to be fulfilled. There is a difference in classification of these needs, with there being lower and
higher needs. This difference created what is known as the hierarchy of needs (Sheehy,
Chapman, Conroy, 1997; Wilson, 1972). These include physiological, safety, belongingness and
love, esteem, self actualization holistic dynamic theory (Dobbert Mackey, 2015; Maslow, 1971;
Sheehy, Chapman, Conroy, 1997). The lowest needs have to be satisfied to reach the higher
needs (Sheehy, Chapman, Conroy, 1997). These lower needs are known as basic needs, and
they are what drive humans to self actualize (Dobbert Mackey, 2015; Wilson, 1972). The first of
these lower needs is physiological needs, such as hunger and thirst. Next is safety needs, or
desire to feel secure and free from harm. After comes love needs, which are also known as
belongingness needs. These needs are met when one feels as though they have people who need
them. Next, esteem needs are fulfilled when they are able to gain a satisfying image of themselves.
Finally, the last need is self actualization, or the desire to reach one s fullest capacity in life
(Sheehy, Chapman, Conroy, 1997; Taormina Gao, 2013; Wilson, 1972). Satisfying the

Personal Narrative-Co-Capitalist
As I walked (stumbled is a more apt term) from the front door of my startup s office building to
the waiting group of equally stunned co workers, my thoughts were why did this happen? Just
fifteen minutes earlier, our CEO unceremoniously relieved us of our duties and a team of hired
security. Shock, dismay, fear, and a little anger coursed through my body. After all, this was my
baby. I had started and grown this biotech company with a close friend, three years prior, from
nothing. We were its founders. A feeling akin to being a parent. It was our idea brought to life in
the form of hardware and software. At that moment, staring blankly into the distant hills of
Whiting Ranch and running past events through my mind on fast forward, I knew I had to be
smarter. Furthermore, each past event melded together into a single narrative in my mind and a
focused picture began to emerge from the blurriness. My partner and I made a deal with the devil
of Venture Capitalists. Naive and unaware, we were easy prey for a silicon valley shark.
I have always had a creative side despite my rigid, small town upbringing on the prairies in Western
Canada. Notwithstanding this creativity, I chose the safe path of getting an Industrial Systems

Financial Crisis And Its Effect On The Stock Crisis
BACKGROUND:
The Global Financial crisis started with the burst of US housing bubble, which peaked in 2006. The
main reason for this was the subprime lending, deregulation of the financial sector, off book
financing and underwriting practices. Loans were issued to the customers with poor credit rating
thinking that the price of houses will rise in the future and due to overvaluation. This resulted in
decline in credit availability, damaged investor faith, and reduced international trade and an impact
on the stock market. As European Union has high trade ties and financial ties with US, the
European Union suffered the effects of this financial crisis as well resulting in the Global Financial
crisis of 2008 or the Great depression of 2008. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Due to the Global Financial crisis the exports from Greece reduced as it affected other Euro
countries as well. The financial assistance from other countries was reduced. (Rady, D.M. 2012)
Greece s GDP growth rate came to 2.0%.
Due to European integration, Greece was unable to devalue the Euro and reduce the amount of
foreign debt and consequently lead to accumulation of debt. (Krajewska, A. 2014)
The involvement of the troika i.e European Commission, European Central Bank and International
Monetary Fund has helped Greece for two major bailout loan programs but in exchange has been
dictating their domestic policies. Policies ranging from tax reforms, they have controlled wage
cuts to the changes in regulations of even small domestic products. Failure to comply with Troika
members may lead Greece to face a major default and may also lead to Euro exit but on the other
hand upholding their policies is crushing the economic growth

The Demand For Steel Mill Products
Macro Environment
Nucor Corporation is the largest manufacturer of steel and steel products in North America. The
worldwide industry in which Nucor competes had record years of crude steel production in 2010
and 2011. Steel making capacity worldwide was approximately 2,090 million tons in 2011,
resulting in a 2011 capacity utilization rate of 80 percent versus just 75 percent in 2010. The
demand for steel mill products had grown 5.5 percent annually since 2000, but between 2000 and
2011 there have been periods of both strong and weak demand. Weak demand caused over supplied
conditions in the steel industry worldwide and allowed Nucor to expand via acquisition. Steel

Competitive Forces Rivalry in the steel industry is intense and price is the main factor for
differentiation among competitors. Steel products are considered commodities and quality can be
inconsistent on occasion, for the most part, steel plants turn out products of comparable
metallurgical quality. The threat of new entry into the market is moderate. There are several
entry barriers to overcome, product differentiation being one of them; however, costs would be
the main barrier. The cost of raw materials can be very high since they are usually purchased in
large quantities. Minimizing fixed costs can also be very challenging. Competition from
substitutes is considered low. There are few substitutes for steel at this time. Steel is used for its
strength and durability in auto manufacturing and in construction. As technology advances there
are possibilities for alternative materials in the future. Supplier bargaining power is a high to
moderate threat. Raw materials can be one of the largest costs for a company so suppliers often
have the upper hand. Having a cost effective strategy for the supply of raw materials can have a
huge effect on a company s bottom line. Many firms choose to establish a joint venture with

The Respect of Soldier s Rank
In the U.S. Military services, rank determines who gets to tell whom what to do. The higher one s
rank the more authority (and responsibility) they have. U.S. Military personnel fall into one of three
categories: (1) enlisted members, (2) warrant officers, and (3) commissioned officers. Warrant
officers outrank all enlisted members, and commissioned officers outrank all warrant officers and
enlisted members.
Rank and pay grade are closely associated terms, but not quite the same. Pay grade is an
administrative classification, associated with a member s pay. Rank is a title and denotes the
member s level of authority and responsibility. An E 1 is the lowest enlisted pay grade. That

Corps enlisted personnel switched to the present points up configuration.Navy and Coast Guard
petty officers trace their insignia heritage to the British. Petty officers were assistants to the
officers aboard ship. The title wasn t a permanent rank and the men served at the captain s
pleasure. Petty officers lost their rank when the crew was paid off at the end of a voyage. In
1841, Navy petty officers received their first rank insignia an eagle perched on an anchor. Ratings
job skills were incorporated into the insignia in 1866. In 1885, the Navy designated three classes
of petty officers first, second and third. They added chevrons to designate the new ranks. The rank
of chief petty officer was established in 1894.During World War II, the Army adopted technician
grades. Technicians of a given grade earned the same pay and wore the same insignia as equivalent
noncommissioned officers except for a small T centered under the chevrons. Technicians, despite
the stripes, had no command authority over troops. This evolved into the specialist ranks, pay
grades E 4 to E 7.

James Bay Project Pros And Cons
April 30, 1971, Quebec Premier Robert Bourassa proposed plans to create the idea of Hydro
Quebec. This would be a state run electric company, taking a hydro electric strategy that would dam
many Northern Quebec rivers and in turn open the opportunity for thousands of jobs. It would also
open the opportunity for Quebec to get a new trade base for Quebec to surplus power for export and
would attract investment in exposed industries. In 1973, the James Bay Project was initiated, which
indicated the damming of many rivers and flooding the surrounding areas. Since then, it became

has, per unit of surface area, more flowing water than almost anywhere else on the globe. Due to
the numerous rivers that flow into the James Bay and Hudson Bay, this can potentially increase
economic growth. Since 1963, the plans of this project were started. The mission was to
reconstruct the natural waterways into the dams and reservoirs to produce electric power for
Canada and New England. When Europeans were first established to Northern America, the Cree
and the Inuit were compelled to relocate further North every time a marketable resource discovery
was detected. In 1975, the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement between Hydro Quebec and
the Indians was reasoned to solve the issue between the two concerns. Nonetheless, the Cree and the
Inuit believe the agreement was violated. They did not execute the environmental effects
assessment. On the other side, Hydro Quebec says otherwise. They believe that it was implied in

The Roles of Greek Heroism and the Gods in the Persian Wars
The Persian Wars (499 479 BC) put the Greeks in the difficult position of having to defend their
country against a vast empire with an army that greatly outnumbered their own. Many city states
united in battle, although others found ways to avoid participation in the wars. The Greeks also
relied on the words of Apollo to guide them, but the oracle did not always act encouragingly. The
Greeks defeated the Persians in the Persian Wars due to heroic actions performed by Athens and
Sparta and occasional assistance from the gods, but cowardice shown by other poleis nearly ended
the Greeks chances of success.

The Athenians superior attitude would continue throughout the wars against Persia.
The Greeks showed more unity during the Second Persian War. Xerxes assembled a Persian army
including soldiers from all parts of the Eastern world in order to retaliate against the Greeks for
their victory at Marathon, and this caused the Greeks to worry. Thirty one Greek poleis met at
Corinth to discuss the situation, and appointed Sparta to the position of commanding polis due to
its vast hoplite army. Greeks who were loyal to the Greek cause... reconcile[d] enmities and put a
stop to existing wars between each other (Hdt. VII.145.1) in order to fight against Persia. However,
only one Peloponnesian state (Sparta) offered help throughout the wars.
Argos received an excuse from the Delphic oracle to keep it from battle (Hdt. VII.148 152), and
Messene was so corrupted that [it] even tried to prevent Sparta s attempts to come to Greece s
aid (Plato, 692d). Other city states avoided participation in the wars as well. The oracle also
excused Crete from fighting (Hdt. VII.169), and the tyrant Gelon of Syracuse refused to let his
state help Greece s cause (Brunt 158 162). If these poleis had chosen to fight, the Persians may
have been intimidated by the large Greek forces and avoided war. The Greeks instead presented an
image of a nation torn by cowardice, thereby making the Persians more confident in attacking
Greece. This lack of unity among the city states created some

The Era Of Music During Beethoven And Dido And Aeneas By...
Music is a crucial part of life. Conducting, composing, or listening to music are things most
people do everyday. Music exposes feelings and portrays a part of history. Listeners enjoy
different genres. They may like music of different tempos or dynamics. Many composers may only
focus on one instrument to perfect. Regardless of taste or need for music, it is all important. Two of
the important pieces learned in the beginning music class are SymphonyNo. 5 in C minor by
Beethoven and Dido and Aeneas by Henry Purcell. A major historical event was well underway
when Beethoven was born. The Age of Enlightenment was upon the world. The peak of the period
was happening right as Beethoven was born. Philosophy, science, and politics were changed.
Many believe this helped the Romantic period also (Enlightenment). During Beethoven s early
life, music was mainly classical. However, Beethoven was the main ingredient on changing his era
of music. Beethoven studied under Haydn and Mozart, but they were not valuable relationships to
him. Beethoven was mostly known for his great piano work. After branching out from more than
the piano, Beethoven s work took on a more Romantic feel. He put more emotion and expression
in his work than he, or most artists, did previously. This grasp between stages was very productive
for Beethoven; most of his best work was completed during this time (Brief). Ludwig van
Beethovenwas assumed to be born in Bonn, Germany, on December 16, 1770. He died in

Social Media Issues In America
The United States of America is widely known as the greatest country in the world. But is it really
just that? Different researchers and their studies have proved this statement wrong. The obsession
over social media, lack of individuality, and the dating culture within America is simply morbid.
While many of these issues particularly pertain to millennials, they all can be applied to every age
of life. Society needs to fix and change these issues before they turn astronomical and irreversible.
Social media has corrupted the lives of the newer generation. It is no secret that technology has

Societal standards that are held within social media possesses the idea that you have to be like a
celebrity or someone who is widely known. Lip injections, liposuctions, and expensive brands
are on the rise now more than ever. It seems as if no one wants to be themselves any more, and it
is seemingly appalling. The lack of individuality begins at a very young age in this generation.
Otherwise known as peer pressure , children are expected to choose to either be like everyone
else, or make their own decisions and be a loner. In a scholarly article, Blöte, Miers, and
Westenburg came to the conclusion that The link between social anxiety and substance us in
adolescence may be partly explained by susceptibility to peer pressure (Blöte, Miers,
Westenburg 2016, p.6). Peer pressure and lack of individuality starts at a young age, yet does not
stop for what seems like forever. Pop culture today has a fixation with being just like everyone
else. But why does everyone want to be like everyone else? Why is it so fascinating and enticing
to be just like person next door? A researcher, Alex Pentland, came up with a conclusion as to why
people think this way. He

  • 2. Small Town Essay Gabrielle Bolin Dr. Lindsy Lawrence English 1213 0D4 23 April 2015 This Small Town Means Business: Improving Local Economy When you grow up in a small town the one thing that is the most difficult to withstand is boredom. At least, that s how it is for the youth of the area. However, when you look at it from an older and more mature perspective you might realize that the main issue with some small towns is job availability, as well as the town s revenue for different projects, etc. Recently my hometown has been undertaking a few different projects that will really benefit the area and it s economy. The youth league softball program has grown tremendously within the past few years. Due to that improvement, Sallisaw was chosen to host a state tournament. Which was wonderful until we realized that our softball complex was not best suited for a tournament of this magnitude. This is when talk began on building an entirely new sports complex for all of the youth league sports in the area. One other issue arose through hosting this tournament. Out of sixty three teams who were in the tournament last summer, only one team stayed in Sallisaw. The rest of the teams were sent to stay in hotels here in Fort Smith, all because the hotels that are located in Sallisaw did not have an indoor swimming pool. The teams would rather make a thirty minute commute than stay in a hotel that does not have a swimming pool. The next project Sallisaw is undertaking is bringing in a well known hotel ... • 3. A Look at the Final Chapter of Timothy Glander’s Book,... The final chapter of Timothy Glander s book, Origins of Mass Communications Research During the American Cold War: Educational Effects and Contemporary Implications (2000) stands as a disappointing example of academic research becoming hijacked by the author s personal opinion. Focusing on the hidden nature of propaganda in American life, his concluding chapter presents a very drastic view of the individuals who crafted the academic subject now known as mass communications. I see the need for investigating the status quo, for digging into the motivations behind the images and data churned out in the mass media, and for questioning the trivia facts that become common knowledge. For that reason, I am wary of completely discrediting the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Circling any solid thesis, he claims that generations of Americans have been brainwashed by mass communications, ruining any genuine community life (2000, p. 214), a vague picture of the pre Cold War era that never becomes defined. The Cold War era may have featured significant changes in the way American communities functioned, but summoning up a sitcom image instead of genuine examples to support one of his key arguments simply weakens his case. His one clearly stated goal is to revive the association of the phrase mass communications with the word propaganda a word that appears thirty times in these fourteen pages. Making the unfortunate choice of attempting to eliminate detractors of his claim without addressing their concerns, Glander frames them as being lost in the propaganda of their time. His claim, people still remain largely unable to...understand the powerful ways in which [television] is used to shape and control their thinking (2000, p. 207) means every generation since the Cold War is so permeated by mass communications that they are now incapable of external analysis. Using this logic, critics of his argument are brainwashed by this new establishment, a victim of social control that they cannot see or change, leaving us in a vicious circle at the mercy of the media. Two accompanying book reviews echo my concerns with this logic. Found in History of Education Quarterly (2001) and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This has the effect of averaging out the risks associated with the equity market, thus reducing the overall risk you face. In this option some proportion of the fund value is automatically switched from debt dominated fund to equity dominated fund on regular basis. Automatic Asset Allocation (AAA): This option helps the customer to automatically decrease the exposure to equity and increase the exposure to dept, as policy holder grow older. This option relies on the fact that an individual s risk appetite reduces with age and he tends to be more conservative with his investment. • 5. Write An Essay On Pleural Effusion In layman s terms, pleural effusion is simply fluid in the pleural space. However, pleural effusion is so much more than that. It is caused by a variety of mechanisms, has two different classifications, and can cause varying degrees of symptoms and complications. Patients with pleural effusion are ripe for diagnostic radiography, as it is often the best source of information about their condition and it s severity. Pleural effusion is defined by Liz Allibone as an abnormal collection of fluid in the pleural space caused by a variety of mechanisms. The pleural space is a cavity between the chest wall and the lung that consists of two layers, the parietal pleura and the visceral pleura. These two layers normally have pleural fluid within them to reduce friction during respiration. Allibone quotes about normal pleural fluid levels that ...it is suggested that there is around 0.2 0.4 ml/kg in a healthy adult. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pleural effusion has two major classifications: transudates and exudates. Transudate pleural effusions usually present bilaterally and are caused by a larger, systemic condition that does not effect the porousness of the pleural capillaries. An example of a systemic condition that would cause a transudate pleural effusion would be left ventricular failure. Exudate pleural effusions normally present unilaterally and occur when there is a change in porousness of the pleural capillaries. These types of pleural effusions are much more common and can range in cause from a side effect to certain medicines to a respiratory infection such as pneumonia. They can also be caused by trauma, which produces a hemothorax, or blood in the pleural ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I struggle with High Functioning depression and both General and social anxiety, so life is a struggle for me. • 7. Equality In Early Generations In The United States Earlier generations who migrated from other countries that came to start a new life had many things to accomplish. At the start of the migration, people and settlers came for a new beginning and also a fresh start at life itself. With that tough task at hand, it also came with a price, such as equality, fighting for rights, the constant need for change and following a movement. During this essay I will be able to shed some light and point of views on equality on generations, political pressure, engaging in strikes and the division in social classes. In earlier generations, equality was not a topic that was very popular. If you were born into a poor family, chances are that you yourself were going to fall into that blood life for decades... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the bosses are corrupt and control the majority of how things operate, then there is no voice among the poor and middle class people. If they are employing me 80 90 percent of my day and not letting me or my people utilize the public subways or common things that everyone else is, they are essentially trying to contain us, so that we are so unprivileged and exhausted we wouldn t put up a fight. They are also limiting us in giving us access to what was once considered public . The social classes are divided in this perspective, if you knew or know someone of power them you belonged and if you didn t, then in turn you were looked down upon as someone with no rights. In conclusion the equality of earlier generations was really never established until people began to rebel and make it noticeable. A strike would only be necessary if the bosses where not corrupt and not control the public uses of everything that was once common. Finally, with the division of social classes would have change if at the beginning of time there wasn t any one person in control and corrupt, using their power in their ... They are among the oldest curves in history and is one of the oldest area of study for mathmaticians. conics were discovered by Menaechmus (c. 375 325 BC), a Greek pupil of Plato and Exodus. He was trying to solve the famous problem duplicating a cube. Euclid studied them and Appollonius reinforced and expanded previous results of conics into a book he named Conic Sections. It is a series of eight books with 487 propositions. He applied his findings to the study of planetary motion and it was used to advance the development of Greek astronomy. It is because of Appollonius that the name ellipse, parabola, and hyperbole were... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In some cases, the circle is listed as a fourth conic. A circle is really a unique ellipse. Conics have very unique features. For instance curves can also be defined using a straight line, the directrix, and a point called the focus. If you measure the distance from the focus to a point on the curve, and perpendicularly from the directrix to that point. The two distances will always be the same ratio for an ellipse the ratio is less than 1, for a parabola the ratio is 1, and for a hyperbola the ratio is greater than 1. These ratios are known as the eccentricity, so we can say that any conic sectionis all points whose distance to the focus is equal to the eccentricity times the distance to the directrix. A circle has an eccentricity of zero, an ellipse has an eccentricity between 0 and 1, a parabola has an eccentricity of 1, and a hyperbola has an eccentricity greater than 1. Ellipse is known by its focal definition: it s a locus of all points P in the plane the sum of whose distances from two fixed points F1 and F2, the foci, has a constant value. The Belgian mathematician G. P. Dandelin in 1822 gave a beautiful proof of a conic section is a finite shape then it is always an ellipse. First imagine a huge sphere S1 inside a cone. Let the sphere be so big as to not touch the cutting plane. Assume it touches the cone over the circle k1. Shrink the sphere S1 (suck it into the cone) until it touches the plane at point F1. ... Persuasive Essay On Head Start Head Start Programs: All Children Deserve the Same Chance at an Education Head Start programs came about in 1964; when President Johnson declared a war on poverty. His idea was you must break the cycle of poverty to win the war. The program s idea was to help break the cycle of poverty by, providing the children of low income families the ability to meet the emotional, social, health, nutrition, and mental needs. The Parents also are offered resources in higher education, paying utilities, and other needs that are essential to succeed. According to The Basic Head Start Facts Sheet 2011, Head Start is the nation s first national early education and early childcare program. Since then over thirty two million children have had assistance with the program; therefore, has caused an increase of twenty eight percent in High School Graduations (Smith 8). Head Starts main goal is to lower the achievement gap between lower class and middle class children. Being born in poverty and the disadvantages Smith states that children who are born into poverty already have a disadvantage. The journal Why Investments in Early Childhood work, 2011, shows that these children are twenty five percent more likely to drop out of school, forty percent more likely to become a teen parent, and seventy percent more likely to commit a violent crime in their life. Are you feeling overwhelmed by the myriad of nutrition supplements on the market? Unsure if you need whey protein, fish oil capsules, vitamin pills, creatine, caffeine pills, test boosters, L carnitine, or branched chain amino acids? I feel your angst. I too was once a young stud pulling my hair out in frustration over the sheer number of nutritional supplement at my disposal. The naГЇve teen: A young, baby faced, lanky teen with an afro (Ludacris would be jealous) walks into a nutritional supplement store for the first time. His eyes bulge out of their sockets in excitement as he walks down the aisle. He comes across protein powders, natural test boosters, nitric oxide, and creatine supplements promising to increase lean muscle mass and strength. Further down, he finds energy pills, chews, and drinks purporting to deliver the most intense and hardcore workout of his life. He even finds supplements promising to increase his sexual performance (wink, ExtenZe). The supplements give him a glimpse into his future: arms the size of 22 inch Escalade rims, a barreling chest, legs so enormous that his friends call him quadzilla, and bodacious babes lots of them. He grasps as many supplements that his two string bean (soon to be gigantic python) arms can carry. He is on his way to Arnold Schwarzenegger status. Who is this young, dashing teen? Coach Knight clearly displays neuroticism and his unstable, self pitying, touchy, anxious, tense, and worrisome attitude comes clearly through as displayed through rants and berating of his players. • 14. Similarities Between Fast Food Nation And The Jungle Both chapter eight of Fast Food Nation and the excerpt from The Jungle depict gruesome images of the reality of a meat factory. These passages were written by muckrakers who felt it was their duty to expose the truth of the food industry to the American people. The authors tried to express the same messages in these pieces; through the use of diction and characterization, Upton Sinclair and Eric Schlosser are able to convey to the public the horrors of the meatpacking industry and the treatment of its employees. The use of language is an adequate manner of showing the reader the author s point of view on a situation or topic without declaring it outright. Upton Sinclair and Eric Schlosser use effective diction to give the reader a sense of the horror that goes on within the industries and their emotions while being witness to it. When reading closely, it is obvious that the word choices of the authors are pushing the reader to also view these scenarios as horrific and inhumane. In Fast Food Nation, Schlosser writes, On the kill floor, what I see no longer unfolds in a logical manner. It s one strange image after another. A worker with a power saw slices cattle into halves as though they were two by fours, and then the halves swing by me into the cooler. There are many keywords in this excerpt that paint an awful scene in the reader s mind. Firstly and perhaps most importantly, using the term kill floor to describe the setting automatically gives a negative connotation. Kill floor is extremely cacophonous, and Schlosser purposefully did not choose to find a euphemistic counterpart to use instead; the reader can easily imagine what goes on at a kill floor . He also writes that the events unfolded in an illogical manner . This denotes that there is chaos and disorder within the factory, thus forcing the reader to conclude that the events occurring are doing so with no supervision and are possibly hazardous. Finally, Schlosser describes the employee s work as slicing with a power saw and cutting the cattle in halves, which then swing by the cooler. Reading of something being sliced with a power saw gives the reader an instant image of a reckless cut through something with a mighty tool, which shows the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One reason why I have always had a passion for the law is because living in Egypt you get to see how corrupt things can get, and I believe this is part of why I am who I am today, since experiencing this made me become a very confident person knowing when and how to stand up for myself and not stop until I achieve what I have aimed for. That being said, I have always believed that the richer you are the more lenient the judicial system will be with you, in other words if you come from a wealthy family your chances of getting sentenced to prison are much slimmer than if you are from a poor family. I just recently started reading a book called The Rich Get Richer and The Poor Get Prison which inspired me to persuade you why I believe that the way we incarcerate people must change; we need to look beyond the background they come from, and start sentencing people based on their crimes. Nino Vs The Jewel Exchange Summary Nino vs The Jewelry Exchange The legal agenda in the case of Nino vs The Jewelry Exchange was that the defendant, Rajae Nino made allegations to his employer that he was being discriminated on the account of his gender and nationality. The primary stipulation to this case was that Nino had signed a contract that was unconscionable. The primary function of this agreement gave most of the power to The Jewelry Exchange. The Court of Appeals decided that the arbitration agreements did not favor their employee. The definition of unconscionable from Webster s Dictionary states, excessive, unreasonable . What is means for a contract to be unconscionable is that contractually, the contract is very one sided and extremely favors one party over another. Procedural unconscionability is the conditions and the procedures that are within the contract results in various inequalities such as age, intelligence, and relative bargaining power. When a contract is substantively unconscionable it means that that actual terms of the contract are unfair, oppressive or harsh. Cases such as Nino vs The Jewelry Exchange showed that the terms if the contract were ambiguous and suspect, this was one of the primary reasons that the Court of Appeals ruled in Nino s favor. In our society today, there are many ways identity plays a role in how people live their lives, as well as how people are viewed or treated by others. A big part of a person s identity comes from their gender. Men and women are raised differently, whether it be their beliefs and ways of thinking, how they view their future, or the actions they choose to take throughout their lifetime. In both Katha Pollitt and Silko s essays, they discuss the differences in the lives of men and women and how these differences result from society s expectations by using metaphors and life examples to explain their message to the reader, as well as allow the reader to connect to this message. In Why Boys Don t Play With Dolls, Pollitt writes about the differences between growing up as a boy growing up as a girl. She brings up the stereotypes that society naturally creates between genders in early ages, which leads to the lifestyle and path that boys and girls are raised in. Parents and feminist alike play a big part in establishing these sex roles. They raise their kids wanting them to be successful at what they are expected to be good at based on their gender and the trend that has been set before them. In an excerpt from Pollitt s essay, she references a metaphor of the lives of boys and girls through a doll and a truck, as well as Mars and Venus when she says, A girl with a doll and a boy with a truck explain why men are from Mars and women are from Venus, why wives do housework and ... The 1952 and 1986 interpretations of Oscar Wilde s play were more elegant than the 2001 film. My reaction to this version was much different from my initial perspective. • 31. The Ethics Of Environmental Ethics Environmental Ethics This research will be based on two types of theories. These theories will be the guiding approaches that will be used in order to come up with the real issue at hand and also be able to provide a solution for the same. The first of the two approaches will be deontological approach and the other will be utilitarianism approach. Therefore, to better understand how to use these two approaches, it is better to first discuss them briefly and have a better understanding of what they are. Deontological Approach Deontological comes from two Greek word. The first word is deon which when interpreted means duty or responsibility. This word is used to mean what one ought to do or is obligated to do. The other word is logos which when interpreted means study. Therefore, this may be literally be interpreted as the duty of study or the responsibility to study. Deontological is a normative theory which examines the choices we make and regards which one are morally required or permitted or which one are forbidden (Cohen,1997). Deontological theorists are those theorists who judge our actions on what we are supposed or should do and not what we may do. They judge these actions of what we ought to do regardless of the consequences of the action. These means that the actions are not justified by the consequences but rather by themselves. One ought not to examine what they are obligated to do on the basis of the results the action will bring but rather on the actions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Student Debt Crisis And The Housing Crisis There is a critical financial trend in the United States: student debt is at an all time high. For the first time in mid 2013, student debt rose to 830 billion, surpassing the credit card debt (Clemmitt). Many economists and scholars compare the student debt crisis to the housing bubble, which resulted in a nationwide recession 2008. In a senate hearing regarding the current student debt crisis, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan said, The warning signs are there, just like they were before the housing crisis, and congress needs to act before it is too late (Bidwell). After graduation, many students find it difficult to repay their debt, due to the bleak job market. According to a report published on the financial website Smart money, ten percent student loans borrowers defaulted in 2010 (Clemmitt). The percent was larger for students that attended a for profit educational institution, like a career college; fifteen percent of these students defaulted (Clemmitt). Although the default rates do not contribute to the increasing student debt, one can compare it to the mortgage crisis when people stopped paying their mortgages and the American economy crashed. This exemplifies the critical problem that the student debt bubble if burst; it can have devastating impacts on the vulnerable American economy. Three causes for the increase in student debt are due to recent trends in college attendance, the increase of for profit colleges and the rise of tuition due to spending ... He was the creator of the theory of motivation. This theory was originated off of the idea of having self actualizing needs that have to be fulfilled. There is a difference in classification of these needs, with there being lower and higher needs. This difference created what is known as the hierarchy of needs (Sheehy, Chapman, Conroy, 1997; Wilson, 1972). These include physiological, safety, belongingness and love, esteem, self actualization holistic dynamic theory (Dobbert Mackey, 2015; Maslow, 1971; Sheehy, Chapman, Conroy, 1997). The lowest needs have to be satisfied to reach the higher needs (Sheehy, Chapman, Conroy, 1997). These lower needs are known as basic needs, and they are what drive humans to self actualize (Dobbert Mackey, 2015; Wilson, 1972). The first of these lower needs is physiological needs, such as hunger and thirst. Next is safety needs, or desire to feel secure and free from harm. After comes love needs, which are also known as belongingness needs. These needs are met when one feels as though they have people who need them. Next, esteem needs are fulfilled when they are able to gain a satisfying image of themselves. Finally, the last need is self actualization, or the desire to reach one s fullest capacity in life (Sheehy, Chapman, Conroy, 1997; Taormina Gao, 2013; Wilson, 1972). Satisfying the ...
