2. Access Of Contraception And Abortion Within The Latina...
Access to contraceptives and abortion within the Latina community in Los Angeles, California has
been influenced culturally, socially, and economically. Cultural beliefs, economic disparities, social
environment, and language barriers have all prevented Latina s access to proper pregnancy
termination services, which is causing in the detrition of Latina s sexual and reproductive care.
Ultimately in order to promote better reproductive/sexual health and provide better access to
contraceptives and abortion within the Latina community in Los Angeles, policy makers should
promote safe sex practices within families, communities, and schools and also should educate Latinas
of all options they have. In addition to education, sexual and reproductive health services such as
contraceptives and abortion should be able to be accessible to Latinas, in order to reduce the amount
of Latinas going through traumatic experiences that are indeed preventative.

have been overlooked and ignored especially for Latina women in Los Angeles, California. Hispanic

3. The Space Of Space Exploration Essay
Introduction
One of the greatest unknowns within our human existence is life outside of our known universe;
decades of research, teamwork and funding have manifested phenomenal scientific triumphs in the
fields of space exploration and aeronautics. The forefront of this Space Race arguably began with the
Sputnik, a Russian artificial satellite launched in the late 1950 s. Following the launch of Sputnik 1,
the genesis of American competitive space exploration built roots in the formation of NASA under the
Presidency of Dwight D. Eisenhower. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration was
founded in 1958 under a premise of competitive space exploration and continued discovery of truths
residing outside of our existence on planet Earth. NASA externally competes with other teams of
space explorers, which primarily includes Russia s Federal Space Agency, commonly called
Roscosmos. However, moving away from Cold War competitiveness and the race to build the biggest
and best rockets, NASA has fostered over fifty years worth of the most fortified and cohesive
teamwork in the fields of science and aerospace engineering.
The unwavering cohesion of NASA engineers, scientists and explorers has exclusively demanded the
best and brightest to work on their teams. External pressures both on and off of the deployed NASA
spacecraft render their employees to work with the strongest teamwork achievable between their
highly diverse team members. NASA continues to recruit

4. New Science Vocabulary Analysis
Effective vocabulary instruction is multidimensional and intentional (Sweeny Mason, 2011). It is
important for teachers to find helpful strategies when teaching new science vocabulary to their
students. Technology today has opened a whole new world of strategies for teaching science
vocabulary such as, word games, scavenger hunts, graphic organizers, etc. instead of the old way of
just having students write the words in a notebook and find the definitions in a dictionary or glossary.
In order to keep students engaged in learning teachers need to make sure that their instruction is
interactive and fun. To help with learning academic vocabulary teachers need to incorporate the
following; helpful strategies and activities, provide students with instruction and development, and
ways to differentiate in order to meet the needs of ELLs and students with learning disabilities. In
learning about science it is the teachers job to teach ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Teachers need to organize the vocabulary words into three categories, such as, Tier I words include
words that are almost universally known (tree, leaf); Tier II words include almost all of the words we
need to teach students; and Tier III words are infrequent and technical (photosynthesis) that are best
learned at their point of need (Flood Lapp, 2016). Providing students with learning disabilities
assistance (one on one) and modifying their assignments will help them to feel more comfortable in
the learning of the vocabulary content. A teacher s aid can be useful in a classroom when it has
students with disabilities. Using scaffolding and graphic organizers are other ways to help students
with the concepts of learning science vocabulary words. For example, Venn Diagrams, Semantic Map

5. The Contract Agreement Is Enforceable And Binds The Parties
Having concluded that the July 7, 2009 settlement agreement is enforceable and binds the parties, we
must then interpret the terms of that agreement. Settlement agreements are enforceable as independent
contracts, subject to the same general rules of construction that apply to other contracts. Maslow v.
Vanguri, 168 Md. App. 298, 316 (2006). We begin by observing that the interpretation of a contract is
a question of law subject to de novo review. Spacesaver Sys., Inc. v. Adam, 440 Md. 1, 7 (2014).
Moreover, in Maryland, we employ the objective theory of contracts, under which: [A court is to]

The agreement in this case was an accord aimed to resolve a dispute that arose resulting from Kaye s
representation of Wilson Gaskins in her dispute against GEICO. Wilson Gaskins was contemplating
pursuing a professional negligence claim against Kaye. In consideration for a reduction in what Kaye
would otherwise have been entitled to under [the parties ] retainer agreement, Wilson Gaskins agreed
to: [R]elease and forever discharge Kaye . . . of and from any and all action, claims and demands
including claims or actions for contribution or indemnity of whatever nature now existing or which
may hereafter arise out of the legal representation of Wilson[ Gaskins] in regard to Lawsuit including
any consequences thereof now existing or which may develop, whether or not such consequences are
known or anticipated. In Wilson Gaskins s prior appeal we held that this agreement operates as a
release that discharged any amount to which Kaye may have been liable to Wilson Gaskins. The
question in this case, however, is whether the language in this agreement expresses an affirmative
promise by Wilson Gaskins not to sue on claims within its scope. Kaye contends that the release given
by Wilson Gaskins contains

6. Divine Law In Antigone
The play Antigone is written by Sophocles, one of the three ancient Greek writers whose plays have
survived till this modern time. Antigone mainly focuses on the events taking place due to a past
tragedy which took place in the city of Thebes , where the current king is the play s Antagonist and
Antigone is the Protagonist. The play revolves around the central theme of Human law vs Divine law,
According to the current king Creon, the crime committed by Polyneices accounted him as a traitor
and therefore he does not deserve a proper burial, even though the divine law of the gods clearly states
the every person deserves a proper burial.

He also opposed the irrational law of the gods and favored his own rational law. With Creon s first law
anyone who attempted to bury Polyneices will be sentenced to death . Clearly Creon was offended by
Polyneices and his emotions were brought out when he said, No man shall bury, none should wail for
him; unsepulchred, shamed in the eyes of men . This line has a profound impact on the audience, as it
gives them a good look at Creon s overall disposition, and it also instills a feeling of resentment
towards Creon, as he is misusing the power he has been given. In addition to this, Creon also brings
himself closer to the wrath of the gods by killing anyone who attempts to bury Polyneices. This is
basically killing an innocen person who has done nothing wrong, and this crates further dislike
towards Creon from the audience. Creon s egoistic nature prevented him from seeing the true
repercussions of his actions, and because he was blinded by his power, he did not think that anyone
would stand up to his changing of laws and rules. His disbelief in everyone and everything gave him a
very hard time to think whom to trust and whom not to, he also did not believe the old prophet
Teiresias , whose prophecies were right. Teiresias predicted that Creon s harsh actions, unthoughtful
laws and a steady course of his actions would result in the death of his entire family and

8. Mandatory Non Medical Funding For Children Entering Public...
Choosing to vaccinate or not vaccinate children has become a large topic of contention between
parents and medical personnel. Rates of non medical vaccine exemptions for children entering public
school continue to increase across the country. This increase has coincided with a resurgence in
outbreaks of vaccine preventable diseases, or VPDs (Lynfield, 2014, p.1). There are a variety of
reasons why a family might apply for a non medical exemption and the validity of these exemptions
varies from state to state. Regardless of the justifiability of an exemption, growing numbers of non
vaccinated children entering school will increase the prevalence and mortality from VPDs (Lynfield,
2014, p.2). The recommended vaccinations for children entering kindergarten are 4 doses of
diphtheria, tetanus toxoid, and acellular pertussis (DTaP), 2 doses of the measles, mumps, and rubella
(MMR) vaccine, and 2 doses of the varicella vaccine. The national Healthy People 2020 goal for
kindergarten vaccination rates is 95%. Although the majority of states report vaccination rates at or
near the goal, clusters of non vaccinated groups can develop in some communities (Seither, 2014, p.1).
Anthropological studies showed that the higher rates of non vaccination correlated with outbreaks of
diseases for which children typically receive vaccines. In reaction to numerous outbreaks related to
higher rates of non vaccinated children, California and other states introduced legislation to make it

minister will have to thoroughly plan out his/her actions as a misstep might cost them the support of

The reserve powers they are constitutionally able to wield and the grasp they have on their party gives
them little formidable opposition. The prime minister having too much power is a genuine concern
and to help ease the conscious of the public and political figures in the Canadian government, checks
should be instituted to prevent these powers from being abused (Kuzniak, 2010). Leadership reviews
are one possible method to help limit party leader and prime ministerial power. Not one method of
governing an entire country like Canada will be perfect, responsible government is no exception, so
making it work as best as possible is the most practical solution. Clark, Klein, and Horwath, are three
party leaders in which a leadership review has proven to be effective in ensuring that the most suitable
party leader is in power and that the party leader will always remain accountable to the party (Morrow,
2014; Chase, 2013; Harrison, 2013). Although cases involving ruling prime ministers were not
examined, these cases can be easily paralleled because the party leader that commands the majority of
confidence within the House will become prime minister. There are several other instances in which a
leadership review has proven effective in political parties, though these examples detail its capability
quite clearly. The necessary approval from the party ensures that the party leader will never stray too

A customarily symbolic creature used was the peacock, another sign of immortality, because of the
myth that a peacock s flesh doesn t rot. This is displayed on the Sarcophagus of Saint Theodore (6th
century A.D.), where two peacocks are placed on either side of an emblem containing the symbols chi
and rho, the first two letters of Christ, in a circle signifying completion (Soltes, 11, 21:20). Near the
end of the 11th century, we see the style of Romanesque architecture transfigure into what is known as
the Gothic era, introduced by Abbot Suger during his rebuilding of the Abbey of St. Denis. Looking at
the basilica of St. Sernin de Toulouse (1080 1120), named after the bishop who was apprehended by
the former Pagan priest when Christianity was illegal, we can see the basilica is itself in shape of the
cross. There are also five aisles, to suggest the five wounds of Christ, five entryways (Soltes, 12,
3:25). The most notable difference between a Romanesque church and a Gothic one can be seen in the
arches. Gothic arches, ogives they re named, are pointed instead of rounded, giving a new criss cross
pattern, as exampled in the Chartres Cathedral (12th century) (Soltes, 12, 10:40). New patterns can
also be found in the buttressing, where instead of holding the framework directly through the walls,
the Gothic structure works from the roof and down as if flying away, coining the term the flying
buttresses (Soltes, 12, 11:15). This sort of buttressing is competent for

14. The Operational Safety Management System
INTRODUCTION Any well designed safety program or system is only as effective as the day to day
ability of everyone in the organisation to rigorously follow procedures correctly and safely every time.
(Angiullo in Hopkins, 2009: p.147) This statement is based on organisational discipline or each
worker as having the self restraint to perform every task required.
Angiullo supports the statement by discussing the operational safety management system in three core
areas: leadership characteristics; well defined and followed management processes; and maintenance
of high standards. Organisations only fully conform to organisational discipline when these three areas
are effectively implemented within the organisation. (Angiullo in Hopkins, 2009). This essay will
discuss why it is believed to be an utopian statement by comparing the core areas against the AS/NZ
4801:2001 Occupational health and safety management systems specification with guidance for use
and supporting literature.
LEADERSHIP CHARACTERISTICS
An organisation s managerial leadership and commitment is defined from the top levels and filters
through to the front line worker. Leadership inspires and motivates only when it is consistent. What
management do or do not do including providing resources, their personal actions or the method of
communication can motivate or demotivate workers (Cutchfield, Roughton 2014). It has been
identified that leadership language, behaviour and trustworthiness shapes the beliefs and

The Neuman Systems Model Ginger Weber University of South Carolina Upstate Abstract The
purpose of this paper is to discuss the impact of the Nueman Systems Model on the world of
healthcare through the use of research done in two studies by Giggliotti (2007) and Bourdeanu, Dee
(2013) and the affect the NSM has had on nursing education as shown by Clark in the Neuman
Systems Model Trustee Group records. This paper uses these examples to represent a large body of
research and educational programs based on the comprehensiveness, validity, and soundness of the
NSM philosophies and concepts. The Neuman Systems Model Fundamentals of Nursing defines
nursing theory as that which differentiates nursing from other disciplines and activities by serving the
purpose of describing, explaining, predicting, and controlling desired outcomes of nursing practices.
(Taylor, Lillis, LeMone, Lynn, 2011,G 14). The focus of this paper will be the Neuman Systems
Model and its impact on the world of nursing. Neuman believed that health was living energy that is

thrown away under a railway overpass. The search for Jack the Ripper lasted for one hundred twenty
years including theories and augmented debates.
The modern day forensics now and then were a lot different. Crime Scene Investigation,
Fingerprinting, and even crime scene photography were not used in the police investigations at the
time of the murders. There was also no social media then to spread the word around about him and

In Robin Lakoff s Language and Woman s Place the author Robin tells us her side of the inequity that
women face. She wants to see what she can conclude from her experiences. In this article she tells us
about her first hand accounts of this through introspection (Lakoff 46). Robin tells us about what
language use can tell us about the nature of inequality (Lakoff 45). The author also talks about the
subservient functions of women and the roles that sexes play in society (Lakoff 45). Robin wants to

This appeals to the rhetorical strategy ethos. This helps pull the reader s attention in and makes them

credibility through this making it more believable. Showing us her side of the story lets us know that
these problems are real. Explaining to the audience examples of this in everyday life and language
makes the audience feel like something must be done. The author explains to us that many women are
subject to subservient functions (Lakoff 46). The roles the sexes play in society have a determination
in how they are treated Robin states (Lakoff 46). She tells us about her first hand experiences of this,
which cause the reader to sympathize for her (Lakoff 46). The author thinks that we will find two
different ways of discrimination women face in language. The author explains the way that women are
taught to use language and the way that general language treats them (Lakoff 46). This is where the
reader starts to see the problems that women may face. The rhetorical strategy ethos used helps the
reader feel for her cause as if it were happening to them first hand. This makes the reader aware of

18. Malcolm Gladwell s Theory Of The Tipping Point
Typically ranging from 100 to 400 square feet, tiny houses could easily be mistaken for a small shed
or plentiful sized walk in closet (Corson). Tiny houses are an alternative to modern housing that can
be taken on the go, similar to the transportable capabilities of an RV or mobile home. In order to
understand why tiny houses boomed in popularity since 2014, Malcolm Gladwell s theory of the
Tipping Point can be used to analyze how the movement sparked. The rise in interest of the tiny house
is accredited to the context in which it develops, the salesmen and connectors that spread the tiny
house movement, and the many aspects that allow tiny houses to stick with their audience.

One of the three, known as the Connector, acts as a living wire who connects themselves to many
different worlds and subcultures and niches (Gladwell). In the tiny house epidemic, many connectors
in the form of bigger companies help project the tiny house lifestyle. Two different television
networks, HGTV and FYI, produced popular shows that informed the public what tiny houses looked
like and what accommodations they came with, of those being Tiny House Big Living, Tiny House
Hunters, Tiny House Nation, and Tiny House World. Each of the shows first aired in late 2014, except
for Tiny House World which came in late 2015 (Tiny House, Big living, Tiny House Hunters, Tiny
House Nation, Tiny House World). By producing a tv show about tiny houses, whether the show
follows contractors, people who build the house themselves, or real estate agents that sell to a
prospective buyers, HGTV and FYI easily allow every household with a television set to explore a
growing movement that encourages finding freedom by thinking big on living small (St. Louis
Sanchez). In addition to bringing the tiny movement into the house of their audience, the show
producers also aim to be salesmen. According to Malcolm Gladwell, the salesmen work to convince
others that they need something they never knew about before (Gladwell). These shows make money
off of every episode they put out, and they do so in hopes that the same audience will return with more
numbers in order to watch their show. HGTV and FYI produce these shows that highlight the price,
process, and advantages of being apart of the movement. Similar tactics are shown outside of the
weekly television shows in community events, such as the Tiny House Jamboree. The jamboree is an

Tim Burton Analysis
Tim Burton is a very skilled director. His first job was with Disney but he was more into the dark
stories, his first project was Vincent(1982) . He likes to combine child friendly stories and
dark/mysterious stories/movies. He had many influences like Dr.Suess, Edgar Allan Poe, Vincent
Price, Grimm s fairy tales, and Roald Dahl. Burton is great at using Cinematic Techniques. He makes
the movies pull at the viewer s emotions, either in a happy, sad, or scary way by using framing,
lighting, camera angles, music/sound, and editing. Tim Burton uses framing a lot to either show the
detailed features of a person s face or to show their expression. During Charlie and the Chocolate
Factory, he did a close up on Willy Wonka s face during one of his flashbacks to show that he was
pained to think of his bad childhood. He also uses a close up shot on Willy Wonka at the beginning to
show how WILLY wonka looks. In the beginning of Edward Scissorhands, Burton used a close up

21. Essay On Cavalry In World War One
When focusing on cavalry, infantry, and artillery in the Franco Prussian war and World War One as
three aspects to compare, the following information came out. I have put each aspects in one
paragraph each. For each paragraph, Franco Prussian War comes first and then World War One
follows. For cavalry in Franco Prussian war, the style of cavalry were reorganized: six regiments
assigned to a Prussian army corps, only two were left in reserve for heavy service; four were
permanently assigned to the infantry for light tasks . This was a great change made in Franco Prussian
War, thought by Colmar von der Goltz. For cavalry in World War One, there was a connection with
the results of Franco Prussian War. Since previous war, the ineffectiveness of cavalry was spoken, and
those ineffectiveness was unable to follow foot soldiers into underground shelters . Cavalry soldiers
are soldiers who are riding on the horse to fight, so it is proved that horse cannot go underground.
Also, horses are big so that it can be the good target for the opponent soldiers to shoot. Therefore, the

22. Fringe Benefit Tax Assessment Act 1986
Mary is a marketing consultant at Elite Retail and has been offered various fringe benefits by her
employer. Mary and her employer were worried about the tax consequences of the respective benefits
and how it could be addressed in income tax return.
(a) Tax Implications on Relocation Cost
The employer of Mary paid her $4,000 for the transfer of furniture for her recent relocation at
Brisbane. The amount is an exempt benefit for Mary because section 61B, Div 13 of Fringe Benefit
Tax Assessment Act 1986 concludes relocation expense as an exempt benefit provided relocation is
important for the performance of her job responsibilities (ATO, 2004).

(e) Tax implications on Loan
The employer of Mary has also provided her a loan of $500,000 at a reduced rate of only 4%. When
an employer grants a loan to an employee at a rate lower than market rate then section 16, Division 4
of Fringe Benefit Tax Assessment Act 1986 requires to pay tax on loan fringe benefit at the difference
of benchmark rate and payment rate. In accordance with Australian Tax Office (ATO), the current
benchmark rate is 5.45% (Deloitte, 2016). The taxable value will be gross up by Type 2 benefit rate of
1.9608 because we assume that the employer is not obliged to get a refund on this amount. It will give
a taxable value of $14,216 ($7,250 x 1.9608) and when this amount is charged by current tax rate of
49% then it will give FBT Liability of $6,966 ($14,216 x 49%).

24. Investigating The Friction Of A Sliding Block With And...
Introduction
Friction is a force that is directed against the direction of motion. It usually acts to slow down the
moving object. In some occasions, this force can be useful such as in the case where vehicles are
making turns. In these cases, the frictional forces provide the needed force to stay on the track. In this
experiment, we used a force sensor and a computer to determine the friction of a sliding block with
and without different masses on it.
Procedure
Description of setup
We connected the force sensor to the labquest, and from the latter to the computer. A string was then
tied to the hook on the woodblock and the other end to the force sensor s hook. Photo below. The
range switch on the force sensor was set to 10N. After this, the logger pro was launched and the setup
was zeroed. To zero the setup, there had to be no tension in the string; then we hit the Ф looking
button to zero.
Outline of technique
It was necessary to know the mass of the woodblock throughout this experiment. So, its mass was
weighed and recorded in the table below. A 1 kg mass was then, placed on the top of the woodblock.
From here, we were ready to pull the force sensor and see what results we get on the graphs. A small
force was applied to the force sensor and then pulled hard enough to set the system in motion. The
pulling was continued for some time and it was done steadily and at the same pace. Various other
massed were tested and the resulting frictions that they produced are recorded

25. First Amendment and Right to Privacy
The First Amendment of the United States Constitution, and the first right guaranteed by the Bill of
Rights, declares that there will be no law made respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting
the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people
peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances (First Amendment,
n.d.). An individual s right to privacy is not guaranteed in the United States Constitution or the Bill of
Rights, however, there have been amendments created that seek to protect specific and private rights
individuals. Even so, there are limitations to what type of freedoms are protected under the First
Amendment and to what extent an individual s privacy is protected. To begin with, there are three
types of speech that are not protected by the First Amendment: obscenity, libel, and slander. Obscenity
is anything which depraves or corrupts minds open to immoral influence (Freedom of Speech, 2003).
Despite the fact that the definition of obscenity has changed throughout the years, Congress, in
general, has reached a consensus in determining that obscenity covers anything that is directed
towards or involves youths, including child pornography. For example, in 1949, the Supreme Court
upheld, in Rosenberg v. Board of Education of City of New York, that the Board of Education did not
have the right to ban schools from carrying books such as Oliver Twist and The

how the role of gender affects the characters, how cultural differences interfere as the film progress,
and how sexism is an issue. By the end, it shows approval of the oppositional gaze. In U.S. media,
women are underrepresented regardless of the form (238). In the first scene, Jess dreams about playing

In this scene, Chadha forces the silenced to develop and to allow critical judgments and assessments.
It does not discipline the gaze; instead, it praises the oppositional gaze as essential because it can
transform the norm into what it can and should be. The director Chadha reflects Jess because Punjabi
women are portrayed as housewives and not soccer women; furthermore, women of color are allowed

On the formation of the Social Contract Theory has a long history, many people have formed Social
Contract Theory has made a great contribution. Thomas Hobbes as one of the representatives of
Modern Social Contract Theory, his departure from the theory of human nature, to a fictional state of
nature as a starting point, put forward the basic principles of natural law, natural rights, and then
through the Social Contract Theory, the establishment of his country theory. Thomas Hobbes certain
extent, played a significant role, for people to bring enlightenment. But his theory does not apply in all
cases; we need to analyze different aspects of different problems. In this essay, I will describe the
Social Contract Theory, and explain the problem of how do we get out of the State of Nature raised by
Hobbes Game. I explain the idea of cooperation that Thomas Hobbes can give to this problem, and
then argue that this is not a satisfactory response to the problem for three reasons.
The main expression of the Social Contract Theory is to explore whether there is a legitimate political
authority, Man is born free, but everywhere he is in chains no. He said political authority in our natural
state does not exist, so we need a social contract in a social contract, everyone abandon natural
freedom, and obtain freedom of contract; in the process of political participation, only everyone

Realism has been very effective in helping scholars understand the international system through the
concepts of altruism, survival, and self help. Realists believed that there are no codes of conduct in
which all states may guide their own actions. They believed that a state must be cognizant of the
events of the states evolved and that one must use a pragmatic approach to solve imminent issues.
They desired states to have supreme power over themselves in order to actively engage in the use and
expansion of military preeminence. George Evans and Jeffrey Newnham (Graham Evans and

is appropriate, lucid, and is a highly anticipated ambition of foreign policy. Realism is branded a
pessimistic view in that they argue that states will amass alliances to guarantee equal power giving no
state dictatorship (Rosenberg, Justin, 1990). The moral outlook of Realists was established by parodies
subsequently identifying their morality as a denunciation of polite mannerisms in fictional stories; for

finally I will end with the concept of change.
Today many countries fight for land and have been for a long time. Land is a very important thing

organization. This is a good example because since they have a lot of power they easily look down on
people. Many people look down on another because of their flaws. This happens everywhere not only
reality but in books as well. Finally onto my third point change in a person s character. In today s
society many people s characteristic change throughout the their lifetimes. In the Good Earth Wang
Lung s characteristic changed from being a loving poor man to a rich lonely man. Characteristics
change in everyone and everything. An example is Demi Lovato because she at first was a shy young

What were Eugene McCarthy s motives for going against the Vietnam War? From the early 1960s up
until the year 1973, America was going through the Anti War Movement. The movement had many
leaders, supporters, and followers, including Martin Luther King Jr., Eugene McCarthy, and Robert F.
Kennedy. The Anti War Movement took place in order to demand the government put an end to U.S.
involvement in Southeast Asia and to stop the escalation of the Vietnam War. On December 2 of 1967,
Eugene McCarthy gave his Denouncing the Vietnam War speech in the state of Chicago, in front of
the Democratic Party. He speaks out against the war in order to point out what an immoral and
pointless battle that the United States were fighting. In Eugene ... Show more content on

The speech was meant to inspire the intended audience in order to for them to give their support to the
antiwar movement by pointing out that the government s efforts to handle the war was ineffective and
unreliable. In Hall s The Vietnam Era Movement from the Magazine of History, it is stated that the
public opinion polls indicated an increase in the lack of confidence that the people had on the
president s handling of the war. Even before McCarthy gave this speech, the audience had already
given lots of strong support for the Antiwar Movement. The government had promised over and over
that the United States was winning and handling the war; as well as ending the war as soon as possible
in order to bring the troops back home. Antiwar activists were unimpressed with Nixon s efforts, and
after a brief interval escalated their protests. The idea of a Moratorium, a suspension of normal
activities, appealed to the moderates by building local actions around a one day protest, with actions
expanding one additional day each month until the war ended (Hall). After McCarthy clearly pointed
out how unreliable the government s efforts were, the audience and supporters of the Antiwar
Movement began escalating their protests and demonstrations in order to put much more pressure.
What is the spirit of 1967? What is the mood of America and of the world toward America today? It is
a joyless spirit a mood

41. Horror In Stephen King s Why We Crave Horror Movies
The first time I watched a horror movie, I was nine years old. While all of my cousins shrieked and
closed their eyes, I felt totally engaged. Will we become more violent if we watch these movies? Will
we become a gore loving, emotionally insensitive society? What is it about scary movies that we love
so much? It all comes back to the Human Condition. Facing our fears, establishing our sense of
normalcy, and experiencing a weird sort of fun are all solid claims that Stephen King states in his
essay Why We Crave Horror Movies.
Horror is an opportunity for us humans to face our fears. Reading Stephen King s short story
Strawberry Spring is a perfect example that we use horror to show that...we are not afraid (King, Why
We Crave 1). We go to prove ourselves as brave. In comparison, watching horror movies is alike
daring the nightmare (King, Why We Crave 1). In this case, the nightmare is facing our fears,
considering horror films are equivalent to going through a literal nightmare. To point out, the narrator
in Strawberry Spring is enchanted by that dark and mist blown strawberry spring, and by the shadow
of violent death that walked through it... (King, Strawberry Spring 1). As a matter of fact, we are all
enchanted by the darkness in the story just as the narrator is. Additionally, King describes this process
as riding a roller coaster by reason of a really good horror movie may... surprise a scream out of us...
the way we may scream when the roller coaster
