This document defines and compares different types of bodies of water. It states that a body of water is any significant accumulation of water on a planet's surface, including oceans, seas, lakes, rivers, and streams. Oceans compose much of a planet's hydrosphere. Lakes are large bodies of water within land that are larger and deeper than ponds. Ponds are bodies of water smaller than lakes, and can be natural or artificial.
