The Benefits of Social Collaboration in the EnterpriseIntergen
According to Forrester, growth in software investment is shifting to people centric and collaborative software with 37% of IT decision-makers planning to implement or expand the use of collaboration tools, compared with 25% or less who are planning investments in traditional software such as enterprise resource planning, human capital management or product life-cycle management.
The drivers for this change include:
• A greater desire for organisations to capture and re-use knowledge.
• The need to maintain connections throughout a distributed workforce.
• The need to align software systems to meet new workforce demands.

The document discusses collaboration in the enterprise and how new technologies can help "unzip" collaboration. It provides examples of how collaboration is natural and has been key to many achievements. While collaboration tools have grown, challenges remain in adoption within companies due to cultural and process barriers. The document recommends that companies examine collaboration needs, identify gaps, select the right tools to enable natural collaboration across teams, and create a plan to promote adoption.
6 benefits of implementing Enterprise 2.0 collaboration software for businessesCynapse
Enterprise 2.0 refers to the use of social software platforms within companies to interconnect teams and their collective knowledge. It aims to harness the advantages of Web 2.0 technologies like social media behind company firewalls. Some key benefits include overcoming geographic and cultural barriers between diverse teams, fostering innovation by enabling free flow of ideas, creating a central knowledge base from communication, capturing tacit knowledge, and identifying experts within the organization.
Social collaboration tools are becoming increasingly important for internal employee collaboration. While some managers are skeptical of social tools, they can improve knowledge sharing and boost team productivity by facilitating employee-built networks rather than restricting collaboration through organizational hierarchies. A holistic collaboration strategy pairs both traditional collaboration tools with newer social tools to maximize their combined benefits for enabling effective employee interactions.

2. It provides examples of companies like Swiss Re, Wachovia, Cisco, and Nokia that have realized benefits like breaking down silos, increasing collaboration and productivity, and driving innovation by implementing these solutions.
3. The key benefits highlighted include improved knowledge sharing, customer service, innovation, cost reductions, and growth opportunities.
The average workday has become disjointed. While workers enjoy the “freedom” that comes from being able to do their jobs without being chained to their desks, it is not without its obstacles. There is certainly no shortage of mobile apps for employees, yet each app only does one thing well, and it is becoming clear that work information is spread out between too many apps. As employees rely more on mobile access, the elusive single-screen, unified mobile experience could be the answer to enterprise information discovery woes. The presentation discusses ways to overcome the information overload challenge using contextual capabilities now provided by mobile devices, a consolidated user experience, and activity streams.

Microsoft SQL Server is one of the most widely deployed “apps” in the market today and is used as the database layer for a myriad of applications, ranging from departmental content repositories to large enterprise OLTP systems. Typical SQL Server workloads are somewhat trivial to virtualize; however, business critical SQL Servers require careful planning to satisfy performance, high availability, and disaster recovery requirements. It is the design of these business critical databases that will be the focus of this breakout session. You will learn how build high-performance SQL Server virtual machines through proper resource allocation, database file management, and use of all-flash storage like XtremIO. You will also learn how to protect these critical systems using a combination of SQL Server and vSphere high availability features. For example, did you know you can vMotion shared-disk Windows Failover Cluster nodes? You can in vSphere 6! Finally, you will learn techniques for rapid deployment, backup, and recovery of SQL Server virtual machines using an all-flash array.

Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.
What to expect
For the upcoming meetup we are organizing, we have an exciting lineup of activities planned:
-Insightful presentations covering two practical applications of the Power Grid Model.
-An update on the latest advancements in Power Grid -Model technology during the first and second quarters of 2024.
-An interactive brainstorming session to discuss and propose new feature requests.
-An opportunity to connect with fellow Power Grid Model enthusiasts and users.

Webinar: Designing a schema for a Data WarehouseFederico Razzoli
Are you new to data warehouses (DWH)? Do you need to check whether your data warehouse follows the best practices for a good design? In both cases, this webinar is for you.
A data warehouse is a central relational database that contains all measurements about a business or an organisation. This data comes from a variety of heterogeneous data sources, which includes databases of any type that back the applications used by the company, data files exported by some applications, or APIs provided by internal or external services.
But designing a data warehouse correctly is a hard task, which requires gathering information about the business processes that need to be analysed in the first place. These processes must be translated into so-called star schemas, which means, denormalised databases where each table represents a dimension or facts.
We will discuss these topics:
- How to gather information about a business;
- Understanding dictionaries and how to identify business entities;
- Dimensions and facts;
- Setting a table granularity;
- Types of facts;
- Types of dimensions;
- Snowflakes and how to avoid them;
- Expanding existing dimensions and facts.
