Video Game Proposal
- 1. Proposal 1 Working Title: City Scramble Audience: My audience is teenagers/young adults aged 16-21. The game isn’t gender specific, although it may likely adhere more towards the male demographic. Rationale (approx. 100 words) Through both college work and projects that I have worked on in my spare time, my animation skills have increased greatly over the course of the year. This allows me to add more detail to my drawings whilst still maintaining a good quality of animation. I have also improved in my editing skills with Premiere Pro, allowing me to overlap different animations to create a full scene with fluid action. In previous projects I have had experience in creating 8-bit music as well as my own sound effects whether they be done using software or simply by recording real life audio. This experience will help me with developing audio that fits the 8-bit style that my game will have. Project Concept (approx. 200 words) I am going to create a 2D metroidvania esq platformer with an 8-bit art style accompanied by audio of a fitting tone and sound effects created by myself. It will include different enemies, including a boss, with different animations for different attacks and movements. To ensure that the game has an authentic feel to it, I will include a title screen, character selection screen and HUD. My gameplay mechanics will be largely inspired by Hollow Knight with an aesthetic and character designs influenced from my own work as well as either Hollow Knight or Shantae depending on what kind of feel I want the game to have. I will conduct research on various platformers to investigate their aesthetic choices, music, sound effects and gameplay mechanics. This will allow me to not only design a game with features that fit well together, but will also give me real games that I can compare my final product to. I will need to decide between my first two researched game aesthetic (gothic) and my latter two (colourful). Depending on which I decide on, the game’s atmosphere will be greatly different. I will most likely use a gothic style as I feel this will fit the setting of the game better and will also be more enticing for my target audience. Evaluation (approx. 50 words) I plan to evaluate my work by comparing it to the games I researched as well as the experiments I created in my first week. By keeping a record of all my work, even the attempts that I decided to not use, I can reflect on the gradual growth of my project. This will help with my development as I will be able to look back on earlier work to compare it with what I am currently creating. Furthermore, this will help me see that progress is indeed being made, so it will definitely help with morale in the future.
