A 12-year-old female presented with dysphagia and was found to have a round red mass of 2-3 cm at the base of her tongue. Ultrasound of the neck showed a well-defined, round, 31x31 mm heterogeneous and vascular mass at the base of the tongue, with the thyroid gland absent from its normal position. CT imaging further characterized the mass and confirmed the absent thyroid gland. Based on the imaging and clinical findings, the mass was identified as a lingual thyroid, a rare congenital condition caused by failure of the thyroid gland to descend from the base of the tongue during development.

Imaging revealed a 10cm heterogeneous mass in her right lower abdomen consistent with a gossypiboma (retained surgical sponge). During a mini-laparotomy, a surgical sponge was discovered and removed from her abdomen. Gossypibomas are a known complication of surgery where a sponge or laparotomy pad is accidentally left in the patient's body during a procedure and gets walled off. They should be considered when a patient has postoperative pain, infection, or mass to avoid any delays in diagnosis.

An ultrasound revealed well-defined, anechoic, asymmetric, multiseptate, thin-walled cystic masses on the fetal head and neck, consistent with cystic hygroma. Cystic hygroma is a lymphatic anomaly characterized by cysts containing clear fluid, usually involving the posterior neck region. It often occurs with chromosomal abnormalities and generally has a poor prognosis, possibly leading to oligohydramnios, fetal demise, or developmental issues if the baby survives.

A 14-year-old female presented with fever and night sweats for 2 months. Ultrasound showed multiple enlarged lymph nodes along the mesentery and vessels within a conglomerated lymph node mass, known as the "sandwich sign", suggestive of mesenteric lymphoma. Further tests found an enlarged liver and spleen, and low blood cell counts. Biopsy results were most consistent with lymphoblastic lymphoma. The sandwich sign seen on ultrasound has high specificity for mesenteric lymphoma.

Ultrasound found the gestational sac located in the lower uterine segment within the region of the previous caesarean scar. 3D imaging confirmed these findings. The differential diagnosis considered cervical ectopic pregnancy and missed abortion but color Doppler showed peripheral flow around the sac, confirming a caesarean scar ectopic pregnancy. Early detection of caesarean scar ectopic pregnancies by ultrasound is important to reduce risks of complications like hemorrhage which can require emergency hysterectomy.

This case report describes a 22-year-old pregnant woman whose sister's child had bilateral anophthalmia. At her 21-week ultrasound, the fetus was found to have absent eye globes and lenses. Termination was performed at 23 weeks. Post-termination examination found sealed eyelids and no eyeballs. Anophthalmia is the absence of the eye globe in the orbit and has a rare birth prevalence. It can be associated with genetic syndromes or environmental factors like infections and toxic exposures. The classification and causes of anophthalmia are discussed.
A case of yolk sac tumour with normal
A 25-year-old male presented with a slow-growing abdominal and testicular swelling for 3 months without pain or other symptoms. Ultrasound showed a heterogeneous right testicular mass and large abdominal mass. Differential diagnoses included a testicular abscess with bowel mass or testicular tumor with abdominal metastasis. Surgery found a thick-walled necrotic abdominal mass, thought to be a pseudocyst. Histopathology confirmed a yolk sac tumor of the testis with abdominal metastasis. Notably, the patient's serum AFP levels were normal, at 28.1 ng/ml. The final diagnosis was a testicular yolk sac tumor with abdominal metastasis and normal AFP values.

The cyst showed anechoic fluid content with echogenic debris sediment. This finding was consistent with a fetal ovarian dermoid cyst or twisted ovarian cyst. Dermoid cysts are the most common ovarian neoplasms that typically appear in the late second to third trimester, range in size, and contain fatty, sebaceous, and other tissue. Continuous ultrasound monitoring of the cyst is recommended, with potential early induction of labor if lung maturity is established.
