For the computer the employees will need something that is easy to edit the
magazines on and has the software that best suits the job role they will be carrying
out for this I have chosen an ‘IMAC’ this is because they are easy to use and have
everything they will need in order to carry out their jobs. The cost of one IMAC will
be £1,049.00 I will need 9 of these for all the employees so it will cost £9,441

For the office space I have selected an office in central London that is reasonably cheap
for the location. It will cost £495 per month for one person. I will only be renting the
office for a couple months (only for the duration of making the magazine. This means it
will cost £8910 for the 2 months for everyone.

3. project The denotation of the masthead Beat connotes that the
information in the magazine is going to inform the user
about music and the artists that produce them. If a
magazine is up beat it means it will be a positive magazine
to read for people who enjoy listening to music.
Project description For the project I will be analyzing my magazines of
inspirations double page spreads and front covers. I will
also be looking into how they advertise these magazines
and the techniques they use to do this.
Photographer For the photos I had another class member named
‘Jonathan carter’
Reference images and ideas The idea to take the photos came from the images
displayed below.
casting The cast I used for this was myself and Jonathan (the
photographer)
4. model requirements The model has no specific requirements
however whoever the the person is being
interviewed has to be the photo on the
front cover
Wardrobe requirements For the wardrobe requirements the clothes
have to be relevant to the genre of
magazine. For the clothing it was ‘puma X
trapstar’ which is well known in the
grime/trap scene
Appearance in the photo Along with the correct clothing the pose
used for the photo needs to look relevant to
the type of music in the magazine
Hair and makeup The was no hair and makeup in the photos
because I was wearing a hat and it was at
night.
Where and when The location for the photograph has to be an
urban place because it is a representation of
where grime originated from. It also would help if
it was dark so it adds effects to the photo.

7. The tools that I used in InDesign was tools like
the eye dropper tool to keep a consistent color. I
also used tools like the quick selection tool so I
could crop the background out of the image and
insert a different background. i used the text
tool to get my masthead and I also used the
bucket tool and gradient tool so I could get an
interesting looking background.
8. Step by step for the front covers
• The first thing that I did was select the background color of the magazine and the size of the
page. This would be the base of the whole front cover so I needed the color to be dark so the
lighter colors would stand out more
• The next thing I did after this was made the masthead, I used a font style of my choice off of
the website DAFONT. I downloaded the font and used the text tool in order to insert it onto
the front cover. I used to font style for the cover lines also so it looked professional and
consistent.
• I used the ruler tool to make everything in line and to make it look professional and neat.
• After I selected the image I wanted to use for the font cover I used the quick selection tool in
order to cut around my silhouette, this helped me to completely get rid of the background in
the image and use the background that I selected in the first step of making the front cover.
• In order to resize the image so it looks better on the page, I dragged the ouse to the top
right/left of the image, held down shift and resized it, holding down shift made sure that the
image would not get warped whilst im resizing it and therefore making it look stretched or low
quality.
• After I added in the photo and the cover lines and I was happy with it, I added in the barcode
that I found offline. I added in social media logos that I resized in order to fit into the box that I
made for the barcode at the bottom left of the page.
• In addition I also added in a date of issue to make it look more professional and to inform the
reader of when the magazine was issued.
9. Step by step for the double page
spreads.
• The first thing that I did was select the correct dimensions for the double page spread and
make sure that the page was the correct size.
• Secondly I typed up the interview into word and organized it how I wanted it on the
double page spread.
• After that I made text boxes on the double page spread ready for the interview and then I
inserted the interview into them and made sure everything was correctly spelt and it
looked professional.
• I then added in the photograph that I had taken and edited ready for the doable page
spread. I used the resizing tool in order to make it fit neatly onto the page.
• I added social media logos and links onto the bottom of the page so people are reminded
that they can find the magazine on the social media platforms displayed.
• On top of the interview I added the pull quote from the front cover so the reader knows
the article is related to the front cover
• Finally I added in drop capitals so the reader knows where to start reading and then I
added in the page numbers and a web adress so the reader knows what page they are on
and they are also shown how to access the website of the magazine.
10. Conclusion
In this unit I have illustrated the essensials to
making the magazines like the cost of the
equipment in order to make the magazine and
the cost of running it for a small business. I have
also included a production plan to highlight the
plan of production and the timeline from start
to finish . Finally I have shown a step by step
guide on how I made the front cover and double
page spreads.
