I found that my research helped create my product as it opened my eyes to
different styles of magazines. I looked at fight magazine GQ and MMA sports
magazine. Looking at these magazine it helped me look at different styles
within the magazine and how different colours work with other colours. This
was beneficial as I wasn’t really sure what colours would work and how all
magazine have very similar colours to each other. This showed me how the
MMA magazines all have similarities because they all link to the same thing. It
also helped me with fonts on the magazine as I wasn’t sure how to get the
right balance of hard rough look to also modern. When I was looking through
the magazines I chose I saw they all had bold big fonts with a fresh look which
I knew that was exactly what I wanted to accomplish in my own work.
The questionaire I did helped quite a fair bit as it really helped show exactly
what the people in my class thought about the magazine I was wanting to
produce.

4. Planning
I found that the mind map stage of the planning really helped me narrow
down the ideas I had as I had a load of ideas I liked I just had to find the one I
could take the furthest and get the right images for. It was the easiest one to
collect images for as I knew I could source them quicker and easier than any
of the other option to produce. I also felt like the mood board helped me find
different styles in the images that might look good together also the colours
used for the photos were all linked so I wanted to take the bright exuberant
colours to my own work.

5. Time Management
• My product could be divided into two sections one is the written work and
the other the photography I need for my magazine. I believe I managed my
time quite well throughout my work as I kept up with all of my writing so
that when it came to making my own product I had enough time to put
enough effort into my work. I also made sure that the week where I
couldn’t collect images I got all my written work done for the magazine so
that when I got my images I could just drop them in make any last minute
adjustments to the magazine to get them finished quickly. I also made
sure that my other PowerPoints were done in the weeks we had to do
them in so that I wasn’t falling behind schedule

6. Technical Qualities
The similarities of my product and the
professional magazine cover are the bold
text of the headline and the cover lines.
It is also similar as its has one of the cover
lines through the middle of the page like
mine also does.
This is like my double page spread as it has
only a few columns of text like mine also a
main image on the right hand side like
mine.
The differences would be the coloring and
backgrounds of the magazine front page
and double page spread. One thing I didn’t
do was put the heading behind the image
as my image didn’t allow that to work
which leads to my other difference which is
that my model isn't posing like most
common magazines pose which is facing
the camera and posing but with the back
to the camera and his arms up

7. Aesthetic
Qualities
I believe my work looks good. I think the colours and fonts all
work well especially on the front cover of the magazine. I also
like the fact I left the images raw and not edited as I am a big fan
of natural looking images, in MMA it is all about been able to
fight not look good and false so I think it really worked with the
concept of the magazine and the genre. I like how I have
contrasted the images without changing the background
drastically,
its two different types of brick but is still
brick so you can see I have used a different
set up with a different costume but kept the
link. The reason I used brick was I wanted a
hard surface nothing soft or giving a soft
effect, as this is an MMA magazine I wanted
it to be something bringing the images and
the genre together and when you think of a
brick wall you think hard rough holds up
loads of weight strong and can withstand
quite a lot so it is hiding a metafor in the
image, this is why I am really happy with the
images and think they look really good

8. Audience Appeal
One of the first things I did to make it appeal
to my audience is to have the images look
hard and tough as on my survey people
answered my question to how they want
the image to look like and a high amount
said this was what they wanted.
One of the other questions I asked
was what colours would they they
expect to see linking to MMA and
the most common colours said
were red black and gold, I didn’t
use gold but I used red and black
and then added white for the fonts
of the magazine and even in
costume

• What did you like about the product?
– For the front cover I liked the main centre photo. Also the
taglines around the edge of the front cover give you a very
good idea on what the magazine about. The double page
spread has a lot of detail and has a colour scheme that
runs throughout.
• What improvements could have been made to the
product?
– The front cover image is behind text and I feel it should be
the main focus and put in front of any areas of text. The
double page spread has a lot of blank space that could be
filled by the likes of accents or more images.

• The font fits well with the topic and will be well
responded by the audience
• The layouts look very authentic
• The photoshoot looks very professional
• What improvements could have been made to the
product?
– Maybe make a website

• What did you like about the product?
– I like the colour scheme and the design of the
front cover. The layout is set out well and the use
of the red white and black compliment each other.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
• I would of used a different font for the poster
or used a black outline

13. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer
feedback? I agree with the fact I should have
filled the blank space on my double page spread,
the reason I left it was because I didn’t want to
over do the space and make it look too full
• What do you disagree with from your peer
feedback? I disagree with the website as I don’t
think I could have done much with a website also
with the text, if I had used black it would have
made the text intrude too much.

14. Peer Feedback Summary
– One of the changes or rather say other things I would have done is to do either
another double page spread or an MMA poster to go into the magazine. The
reason I would have done this is because it would have given me more products to
show my ability. The reason I couldn’t was I didn’t have a lot of time left to produce
a decent piece of work, I could have done one but I don’t believe it would have
been good enough to make a difference so I left it to my front cover and double
page spread as they were my strongest pieces of work.
– Another thing I would change would be my images, I think the ones I got were
really good and worked but if I have had more time with the model I would have
gotten a lot more images in better quality with different outfits and backgrounds
– I don’t think I would have added a black line round my writing as it would have
really darkened the image down and make it look depressing I wanted the red to
stand on it own.
– I don’t think I would have done the website as its not something I am confident in
and if I was going to do extra work the poster idea would have been a better option
if I was wanting to show my true ability.
– Overall I am proud of my work and think there might be things I could change but I
think for the time I had I did a good job of showing what I can do.
