Verbal communication can be either oral or written. Oral communication involves spoken words while written communication uses written symbols. Both have advantages and disadvantages depending on the context. Nonverbal communication also plays an important role by conveying wordless messages through appearance, body language, and sounds. Communication can also be classified based on whether it is formal or informal, with formal following strict rules and informal being more casual. Both formal and informal styles have purposes in different settings.

Voice and Tone: Creating content for humans (Kate Kiefer Lee)Kate Kiefer Lee
A brand’s voice stays the same from day to day, but its tone has to change all the time, depending on both the situation and the reader’s feelings. This talk focuses on articulating your brand’s personality and writing for emotional humans.
I use MailChimp as a case study to explain how we created VoiceandTone.com, an interactive voice and tone guide, and how it improved the company’s content and processes across departments.
I also share a few of my favorite voice and tone guides, as well as some examples of empathetic (and not so empathetic) content in action.
Explains author's tone as it compares to "mood" and provides examples from young adult literature. Jane Henderson created the slideshow and I adapted this version.
Communication is an integral part of daily life. It is also very important in health care setting. This presentation will explain the basic concepts related to communication in health care setting.
The process of using wordless messages to generate is called Non-verbal Communication. A good communicator must be able to augment his/her verbal communication with the right non-verbal communication.
Effective CommunicationSituationTim Smith the IT manager co.docxSALU18
Effective Communication
Situation:
Tim Smith the IT manager comes to you and says "My project coordinators are in a slump; they just are not producing their usual caliber of work. I need to find out what the problem is. No one on the project team knows what is going on. The communications from my project coordinators are coming across as rude, which in turn keeps morale low. The teams are not doing the work. I was hoping you would be able to put together an Effective Communication training for them to help get everyone back on the right track." There are 10 project coordinators in the IT department. Two of the project coordinators are in the organization's Bangkok office. Tim wants the training to last no longer than 4 hours and wants it to be face to face in a class room with you, the trainer. He does not want to fly the Bangkok associates in and would like you to set up a Skype session with them during your training. He also wants you to set up weekly coaching sessions with each project manager and himself for a month after the training is completed.
Training Purchased from USA Training: Effective Communication
You are to use this information, but are not limited to it. Tim wants to make sure this information is covered in the training as he went online and bought it from USA Training, however he is open to what research you find. He wants the training to be interactive and requests that you include at least one activity around communication in the training.
Effective Communication:
Introduction
People in organizations typically spend over 75% of their time in an interpersonal situation; thus it is no surprise to find that at the root of a large number of organizational problems is poor communication. Effective communication is an essential component of organizational success whether it is at the interpersonal, inter-group, intra-group, organizational, or external levels.
In this chapter we will cover the basic process of communication and then we will cover some of the most difficult communication issues managers’ face-providing constructive and effective feedback and performance appraisal.
The Communication Process
Although all of us have been communicating with others since our infancy, the process of transmitting information from an individual (or group) to another is a very complex process with many sources of potential error.
In any communication at least some of the "meaning" lost in simple transmission of a message from the sender to the receiver. In many situations a lot of the true message is lost and the message that is heard is often far different than the one intended. This is most obvious in cross-cultural situations where language is an issue. But it is also common among people of the same culture.
Communications is so difficult because at each step in the process there major potential for error. By the time a message gets from a sender to a receiver there are four basic places where transmission errors can take place and ...

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
2. TYPES OF
COMMUNICATION
Based on
Purpose & Style
Based on
Communication
Channels Used
3.
4. » Verbal Communication Refers To The Form Of
Communication In Which Message Is
Transmitted Verbally.
» Communication Is Done By Word Of Mouth And
A Piece Of Writing. Objective Of Every
Communication Is To Have People Understand
What We Are Trying To Convey. In Verbal
Communication Remember
The Acronym Kiss(keep It Short And Simple).
6. » In oral communication, Spoken words are
used. It includes face-to-face
conversations, speech, telephonic
conversation, video, radio, television,
voice over internet.
» In oral communication, communication is
influence by pitch, volume, speed and
clarity of speaking.
7. » In written communication, written signs or symbols are
used to communicate. A written message may be
printed or hand written.
» In written communication message can be transmitted
via email, letter, report, memo etc. Message, in written
communication, is influenced by the vocabulary &
grammar used, writing style, precision and clarity of the
language used.
» Written Communication is most common form of
communication being used in business. So, it is
considered core among business skills.
9. » In a world flooded with E-mail and other text-
based communication, verbal communication
has several advantages over other forms of
communication.
» For example, we can slow down and present
points one-by-one and make sure that each
point is clearly communicated and understood
before moving on to the next point. This can
greatly increase both the speed and accuracy of
communication.
10. » Verbal communication is far more precise than
non-verbal cues. No matter how clear we believe
we are being, different gestures have different
interpretations between different cultures and
even between two members of the same culture.
» One famous example is Richard Nixon’s use of the
victory finger salute in Australia, as he was unaware
that the gesture was a vulgarity there.
» However, verbal communication is most effective
when combined with other forms of
communication like body language and gestures to
help cue the intensity of the verbiage.
11. » Verbal communication is also the most
effective way of explaining intangible
concepts, as problem areas can be readily
addressed and explained.
» Verbal communication also does not use
natural resources in the way that
technological methods or printing can.
12. » Of course, this does not mean that verbal
communication is the best option in every
circumstance. From a legal point of view, verbal
communication is sometimes problematic because
there is a much smaller chance of an objective
record.
» Verbal communication can also be quickly
forgotten, especially if there are multiple points to
consider. Additionally, there is always the possibility
of miscommunications leading to angry responses
or quick escalation of a situation that could be less
intense in written form.
13.
14. » Nonverbal communication is the sending or receiving of
wordless messages. We can say that communication
other than oral and written, such as gesture, body
language, posture, tone of voice or facial expressions,
is called nonverbal communication.
» Nonverbal communication is all about the body
language of speaker.
» Nonverbal communication helps receiver in interpreting
the message received. Often, nonverbal signals reflects
the situation more accurately than verbal messages.
Sometimes nonverbal response contradicts verbal
communication and hence affect the effectiveness of
message.
16. » Our choice of colour, clothing, hairstyles and other
factors affecting appearance are also considered a
means of nonverbal communication. Research
on colour psychology has demonstrated that
different colours can evoke different moods.
» Appearance can also alter physiological reactions,
judgments and interpretations. Just think of all the
subtle judgements you quickly make about
someone based on his or her appearance.
» These first impressions are important, which is why
experts suggest that job seekers dress
appropriately for interviews with potential
employers.
17. » Posture and movement can also convey a great
deal on information. Research on body
language has grown significantly since the
1970's, but popular media have focused on the
over-interpretation of defensive postures, arm-
crossing, and leg-crossing, especially after the
publication of Julius Fast's book Body Language.
» While these nonverbal behaviours can indicate
feelings and attitudes, research suggests that
body language is far more subtle and less
definitive that previously believed.
18. » “Sounds” here refers to vocal communication that
is separate from actual language. This includes
factors such as tone of voice, loudness, inflection
and pitch.
» Consider the powerful effect that tone of voice can
have on the meaning of a sentence. When said in a
strong tone of voice, listeners might interpret
approval and enthusiasm. The same words said in a
hesitant tone of voice might convey disapproval
and a lack of interest.
19. TYPES OF
COMMUNICATION
Based on
Purpose & Style
Based on
Communication
Channels Used
21. » In formal communication, certain rules,
conventions and principles are followed while
communicating message.
» Formal communication occurs in formal and
official style. Usually professional settings,
corporate meetings, conferences undergoes in
formal pattern.
» In formal communication, use of slang and foul
language is avoided and correct pronunciation is
required. Authority lines are needed to be followed
in formal communication
22. » Informal communication is done using channels that are
in contrast with formal communication channels. It’s
just a casual talk. It is established for societal affiliations
of members in an organization and face-to-face
discussions.
» It happens among friends and family. In informal
communication use of slang words, foul language is not
restricted. Usually. informal communication is done
orally and using gestures.
» Informal communication, Unlike formal communication,
doesn’t follow authority lines. In an organization, it
helps in finding out staff grievances as people express
more when talking informally. Informal communication
helps in building relationships.
