3] Introduction :- Nonverbal Communication = Communication without words *Nonverbal Communication was started in the year 1872 by Charles Darwin in his publication "The Expressions of the Emotions in Man and Animals”. *Nonverbal Communication is a process of communication through sending and receiving wordless messages.
4] Meaning :- * It refers to transfer of meaning by body language, space, time and paralanguage. * It is said that “Non Verbal Communication speaks louder than words”. * Non-verbal methods can be created and used with both written and oral communication.
5] Difference Between Verbal & Nonverbal Communication :- (i) Meaning> *The communication in which the sender uses words to transmit the message to the receiver is known as verbal communication. *The communication that takes place between sender and receiver with the use of signs is known as non-verbal communication.
(ii) Types> *Formal and Informal. *Chronemics, Vocalics, Haptics, Kinesics, Proxemics, Artifacts.
(iii) Time Consuming> *No. *Yes
(iv) Chances of transmission of wrong message> *Rarely happens. *Happens most of the time.
(v)Documentary Evidence> *Yes, in case of written communication. *No.
(vi) Advantage> *The message can be clearly understood and immediate feedback is possible. *Helpful in understanding emotions, status, lifestyle and feelings of the sender.
(vii) Presence> *The message can be transmitted through letters, phone calls, etc. so the personal presence of the parties, doesn’t make any change. *The personal presence of both the parties to communication is a must.

• It occurs through the medium of spoken or

• A combination of several words is used & each
words conveys a specific meaning.

comprehension, brevity, timing & relevance.
9. Spoken/Oral communication
In oral communication, Spoken words are used.
It includes face-to-face conversations, speech, telephonic
conversation, video, radio, television, voice over internet.
Communication is influence by pitch, volume, speed and
clarity of speaking.
Advantages –
It brings quick feedback.
In a face-to-face conversation, by reading facial expression
and body language one can guess whether he/she should
trust what’s being said or not.
Disadvantages –
In face-to-face discussion, user is unable to deeply think
about what he is delivering, so this can be counted as a

In written communication, written signs or symbols are used to
communicate.
In written communication message can be transmitted via email, letter,
report, memo etc.
Written Communication is most common form of communication being
used in business.
Advantages –
Messages can be edited and revised
Written communication provide record and backup.
A written message enables receiver to fully understand it and send
appropriate feedback.
Disadvantages –
Written communication doesn’t bring instant feedback. It take more time
in composing a written message as compared to word-of-mouth and
number of people struggles for writing ability.

• This communication occurs without words;
where the five senses & whole range of body
movements, posture, gesture, facial
expressions & silence are used for sending &
receiving the message.
