Trust in the Workplace
• The employees feelings for employers such as
knowing that leaders are on their side and they
will be treated fairly and there will be no
partiality
• When people trust you, they have confidence in
your decisions and they will do as per your said
things.
• Our words and actions must be same because it
is a key pillar for building trust in the
workplace and ultimately it leads to
organization’s success.
• When there is a difference between a leader’s
words and actions, employees trust will be less
and they are less likely to become engaged and
committed to the organization.

Deserving confidence
- Leader’s self confidence
- Leader’s ability to motivate to build confidence
in team members

Doing what you say you will do
(being dependable)
- Leaders depend on their team members for its
successful completion. Hence its necessary
that the words and actions of the leader
should be same.

Being approachable and friendly
(people trust leaders they like)
- employees works dedicatedly in friendly
workplace or environment and dedication in
work increases the chances of success.

Showing support for your team
members, even when they
make mistakes.
- As leader, many things have to neglect e.g.
mistakes if small. In case of big mistakes
discussion and finding solution of the
problem, so that it will not be repeated again.

- discussion, sharing of thoughts and ideas,
feelings makes strong bonding among team
members and taken decision will be definitely

1. Recognize that building trust takes hard work
Trust is a thing of earning. It comes from huge
effort, act as per the promises and aligning of
behavior with values.
Once trust is lost, it can be very difficult to
recover.
2. Be honest and supportive
In difficult situations also, tell the truth and not
just that thing which people want to hear.
Understand and communicate facts what
employees need to know sensitively
considering their feelings.
Showing support and understanding for team
members even when mistakes are made.
Neglect small mistakes.
It goes a long way in building trust as a leader.
3. Be quiet sometimes
Actively listen and check for understanding is
necessary by paraphrasing what you’ve heard.
Using feedback tools to ensure everyone has the
chance for their voice to be heard.
You must engage in dialogue with employees,
making communication two way by giving
them the opportunity to ask questions, get
answers and voice concerns.
Then, apply what your internal stakeholders
share for future actions.
4. Be consistent
Consistently doing what you say you’ll do builds
trust over time – it can’t be something you do
only occasionally, it should be consistent.
Keeping commitments must be the essence of
your behavior, in all relationships, day after
day and year after year.
5. Model the behavior you seek
Teamwork is important, for that give credit and
appreciation when people do great work and
you’ll set the an appreciative culture.
6. Build in accountability
When you and other leaders acknowledge both
your mistakes and successes, employees
observe you as credible and will follow your
lead.
You can encourage build processes that become
part of the organizational culture such as
i. Evaluation of every project (positives,
negatives, things to change)
ii. Status report and next steps in each meeting
agenda (tracking deadlines and milestones)
