The Namesake Chapter Summaries
As I stated earlier the Namesake focuses mainly on the upcoming of Gogol Ganguli. However, the
story changes hands and is told from multiple peoples point of view as the book continues. The main
people who narrate the story are Gogol, Mrs. Ganguli, Mr. Ganguli, and Moushumi. The book which
covers a significant time gap or about thirty years starts off with Mrs. Ganguli pregnant with Gogol.
Gogol was names so after the Russian author Nikolai Gogol. He is named so because his father
Ashoke had been reading a book written by Gogol years prior while on a train ride that we find out
ended up crashing. Ashoke had survived the train accident by dropping the page of the book he had
been reading which rescue workers had found. Per traditional values their family believes ... Show

Shortly after that Gogol find out from a voicemail his mother leaves, that Ashoke has dies of a
massive heart attack. It s not too long afterwards that Gogol ends his relationship with Maxine. In the
recent time after this Gogol starts to accompany him mother and sister more often that he had done
prior to the death of his father. It is during this time frame that Ashima mentions a girl, Moushumi
Mazumdaar to Gogol and suggests that he call her. Moushumi was the daughter of past family friends,
and had been one of Gogol s friends as a kid. Gogol contacts Moushumi and after a few dates the two
enter a relationship, a relationship that leads into them being married. The couple visit Paris not to
long after being married, and meet up with some of Moushumi s friends Astrid and Donald. Gogol is
not to fond of her friends, and is usually uncomfortable being around them. About a year after the two
are married Moushumi learn that a past acquaintance Dimitri Desjardins had applied for the university.

The Findings After Testing Quantized Inertia On The Emdrive
The purpose of this article was to report the findings after testing quantized inertia on the EmDrive.
The authors predicted that the thrust produced by the EmDrive can be explained assuming that the
inertial mass of the photons is caused by unruh radiation. Multiple experiments took place in several
independent labs, and produced results that were similar to the predicted values for thrust. The
computations of the results did not sufficiently model wave oscillations in 3D, thus the authors
recommend further testing in order to produce more accurate findings.
The text is formatted as a journal article and has been peer reviewed. It was published on August 31,
2015, in Europhyiscs Letters, a journal founded in 1986 by the European Physical Society. The article
references multiple sources that are also academically reliable.
This source will be used to introduce one of the current theories attempting to explain how the
EmDrive produces thrust. The article also addresses the lack of scientific explanation which will help
to prove my own credibility in the report as I address a multitude of theories. Because the article was
published recently I will likely introduce this source last.
Standard physics has no explanation for this and an error has not yet been found... There is no
explanation for this behavior in standard physics because it violates the conservation of momentum,

Ancient Greek Theatre Analysis
Theatre History Ancient Greece In ancient Greece the Theatres were split in 3 major parts. The
Orchestra, The Skene or stage, and then the main theatre segment which was called the Koilon. The
Orchestra was placed in the middle of the theatre in a circular pattern. They had a Thymeli placed in
the middle of the Orchestra, the Thymeli was used as an altar and later was were the chorus stood. The
side of the Skene faced the audience serving as a background. The Skene had as many as three
entrances for actors. Ib between the Skene and the seats, there are two entrances, one on the right and
left which was called the Parodoi. The roof of these ancient greek theatres was flat and it was called
the Theologian. The auditorium of the theatre was shaped in a semi circle which was divided in two
Diazoma, upper and lower. The indoor theatres were called Odeia. The Athenian Theatre plays were
focused on the god Dionysus the god of wine, fertility, and agriculture. The Greek theatre had loud
music, bright colors, and extensive dancing. These plays showed violence and daily life, social and
ethical plays, war, murder, lust, and betrayal. Many playwrights were Sophocles who was born in
Athens the year of 496 B.C. and he wrote over hundred plays for Athenian theatre and only seven
have survived to this day. Another man who wrote plays was a man named Aeschylus, he was born in
the city of Eleuis and was born in 525 B.C. and wrote about 90 plays, and once again he too

Corporate Average Fuel Economy ( Cafe ) Standards Proposed...
Introduction
Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFÉ) standards proposed for vehicles produced between 2017
and 2025 were promulgated through the joint efforts of the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration (NHTSA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) utilizing regulatory powers
granted in their charters allowing them to regulate carbon dioxide emissions from vehicles and other
greenhouse gas producing sources. (Nichols, 2012) The essence of the proposal was that by 2025
vehicle manufactures would be offering for sale cars and light trucks that averaged almost 50mpg.
This level of fuel economy would result in a projected reduction in national dependencies on almost 4
billion barrels of oil and close to 2 billion tons of greenhouse gases namely carbon dioxide over the
life of the new more efficient vehicles. (Nichols, 2012) Cost analysis of the proposal focused on fuel
savings to the consumer and moderate environmental benefits offsetting the industries technologic
costs of meeting the standards at an overwhelming 4:1 ratio netting over 323 billion dollars of
consumer savings over the life of the regulated vehicles.
Economic Analysis
The variables in this analysis include the consumers with their demand for vehicles and their demand
elasticity when it comes to both the cost of fuel and the cost of vehicles shaping their demand, the
suppliers and their ability to navigate the legislation to maximize their investor returns, the oil
producer s ability to maintain

Economic, Technological, and Social Aspects of Ocean Acidification
Natasha Pirani
November 29, 2014
ENVP 500 Developing a Sustainability Perspective
Dr. Liza Ireland
Ocean acidification is the decrease in the acidity levels of the Earth s oceans, caused by the intake of
carbon dioxide emitted in to the environment and atmosphere. Since the industrial revolution, fossil
fuel powered machines have increased human technology and advancement. However, this has caused
the emissions, large amounts of carbon dioxide, deforestation, and other greenhouse gases into the
atmosphere. Ocean acidification, in turn, has created a benefit to us by slowing down climate change
by absorbing the emissions in the water that have remained in the air. However, studies are now
starting to show that the massive amounts of carbon dioxide in the water bodies are altering the water
chemistry and affecting the biodiversity and life cycles of many marine organisms, especially those at
the lower end of the food chain. Other organisms living off the food chain would be part of a
symbiotic relationship involving nutrient cycling: where all other organisms are feeding off of the
larger one, yet are providing some benefit to the overall host.
Washington State is sensitive to the impacts of ocean acidification because of its location and
oceanography. Some regional factors include, upwelling, hypoxia, nitrogen oxides /sulfur oxides, and
watershed inputs of nutrients, (Blue Ribbon Panel,

The Conflict Of The Congo
In the year 1876, King Leopold II of Belgium began to display an interest in the civilization mission in
Africa. The documents on European Imperialism provide evidence for how the individuals in the
Congo are being exploited for European benefit, under the profit making aim of King Leopold II.
European brutality in the Congo was the logical result of the European desire to implement proper
civilization in the Congo, albeit through a lack of cultural understanding and compassion towards the
people of Congo. First, the document Selections from the 1885 Berlin Act (Treaty) was an outline to
the European people that King Leopold II had good intentions for his mission in the Congo. However,
it depicted the contradiction of what his true intentions were and what had actually occurred. King
Leopold outlined six Declarations for what he desired to change for the Congo. Leopold stated, for
instance, his desire to create a change in the freedom of trade for the people of the Congo, as well the
creation of a Declaration relative to the slave trade, and the operations by sea or land which furnish
slaves to that trade. These Declarations relate to the thesis of how the Europeans were directed in a
way to think it was logical to create a change in the significant issues in the Congo. The Europeans
were lead to believe these six Declarations would benefit the civilization of the Congo, by doing no
harm. In actual fact. Leopold fails to point out how he intends to follow

Impact Of Economic Liberalisation On Livelihoods
The Impact Of Economic Liberalisation On Livelihoods In Nigeria
Economic liberalization on livelihoods in Nigeria refers to how the decrease in government control,
through deregulation and lesser restrictions in the economy to promote greater participation of private
entities, serves as a means of securing the basic necessities of life i.e. food, water, shelter and clothing.
This is done in an effort to encourage economic development through the doctrine is associated with
classical liberalism. Following in the pattern of major economic reforms of emerging markets such as
Brazil, China and India, Nigeria has followed the same path of economic liberalisation to ameliorate
itself in the global competition, in order to achieve a higher standard of living.
In Nigeria, economic liberalization through deregulation and privatization, has been implemented for
various reasons, such as the demand for efficient and effective Public Enterprises, reduction in
external borrowing, stronger capital markets, and improve accountability, but most important of all,
for generation of employment and sustainable livelihoods for the betterment of Nigerian welfare
(World Bank, 2013).
SAP and NEEDS.
Economic reform through liberalization was first introduced in Nigeria in 1986 through the IMF s
Structural Adjustment Programme (SAP), which was introduced to many sub Saharan African
countries as a result of the economic downturn of the 1980s. This liberalization programme resulted in

Discovery Essay on Away Michael Gow
To discover is to gain sight or knowledge of something. How have ideas about discovery been shown
in Away and The Book Thief Discovery allows main characters to gain sight or knowledge into
themselves and others. This is evident in Michael Gow s Away, as seen through the characters of
Gwen, Coral and Tom. The three gain sight and knowledge into their lives through the different
perceptions and ideas of discovery. Similarly, in The Book Thief, Liesel gains sight and knowledge
into the world around her, with the help of books which allow her to become educated about the
immoral acts that are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result of Gwen s upbringing in the depression, she consequently places a false value upon
materialistic goods. At the night of the play, Gwen asks Meg Why did you have to do Shakespeare
for? We couldn t see a blessed thing . Through her dialogue in relation to the Shakespearean allusion,
this displays that Gwen resists the emotional depth that Shakespeare represents, and that she is
metaphorically blind. Once Gwen discovers the knowledge about Tom s condition, she gains sight,
and is no longer metaphorically blind to reality. Through her sight, she realizes that family is more
important than placing a false value on materialistic goods. This idea of discovery has been explored
through relationships and events which significantly impacted on her new found knowledge and sight.
Tom, the agent for change gains sight and knowledge into the acceptance of his impending death. The
opening of the play starts with the ending of A Midsummer Night s Dream where Tom as Puck says
Gentles, do not reprehend. If you pardon, we will mend. This foreshadows Tom s healing role in the
play. Although Tom seems to be the character in the least need of a discovery, he still gains sight into
the reality of his condition and knowledge that he needs to accept this. This is evident through reading
King Lear. The scene is set outside, as instructed by

Vygotsky´s Zone Proximal Development Essay
Vygotsky has had a profound impact on developmental psychology. One of his main contributions was
the idea of zone proximal development. He places emphasis the shaping of cognitive development. He
is one of the first in children development that emphasized on cultural context. I have chosen his
theory and what it entails for this paper because its very interesting and some certain parts of his
theory like scaffolding and the zone proximal development were relatable to my experience at my
field site. This theorist believed that our minds, cognition, and psychological abilities could be
development with mental tools as much our physical tools expand our physical abilities. This concept

They get a chance to interact with other students and children. Children make friends and can start to
develop social relationships. Students can get the attention they need that they don t get at home or
maybe from teachers at afterschool programs. The programs provide a positive surrounding for
students to be. Social environments do have an effect on them. It can be positive or negative, so it s
important that where they decide to be is going to have an optimistic and profound effect on children.
As a service learner, I learned that by just being around and being there with them weekly is giving
them a positive social environment that they might not get at home or the neighborhood they reside.
Also the afterschool program allows them to keep friendships and permit them to flourish. The Zone
of Proximal Development (ZPD) another part of Vygotsky theory is applied a lot in classrooms by
teachers. By definition it is the difference between what a learner can do without help and what he or
she can do with help. Apart of that is a concept called scaffolding, which helps us understand how
aiming coaching within a students/child s ZPD can stimulate and increase knowledge and
development. Although this theory is practiced predominantly in the classroom, us service learners can
attempt to use it as well. For example a student at my field site asked me for help with an assignment
she was given by her teacher. She

Martha Washington s Role As Lady Washington
The role as First lady is often seen as being pristine and luxurious. However, Martha Washington, the
first Mrs. President, never seemed to resemble this depiction. A wife should have a good sense, a good
disposition, a good reputation, and financial means, George Washington once stated. It is apparent that
he must have seen all of these things in his wife, Martha, or he would not have married her.
Apparently, others agreed with him, and before she even became first lady, she was known to many as
Lady Washington. Martha Custis Washington received this name due to the vital role she played in the
success of our nation as our country s first lady by partaking in the war effort, setting the basic

about aiding American soldiers during the war, setting a precedent for the women to follow in her
footsteps as First Lady, and by assisting her husband whenever necessary. Truly, it would be difficult

Abstract I will discuss the basis of an organizational theory as it applies to the criminal justice system.
I am discussing and giving a clear understanding of the criminal justice system as an organization of a
bureaucratic management system with hierarchies and processes of inputs, processes, and outputs
within one aspect of the criminal justice system i.e. police, within one city. I will also discuss how
New Orleans Police Department was created throughout history and what organizational theory has
been implemented. This is a brief history of the New Orleans Police Department and why a

After being admitted into the Union, New Orleans created a police force organization that resembled a
small army. The main reason for this type of policing was to control the slave populations that
outnumbered the white population.
Throughout the years the police force evolved and the New Orleans Police Department was created in
1852. This allowed for a consolidation of independent police jurisdiction and was apart of a reform of
all city government levels. To create an atmosphere of internal honesty a hierarchy was put in place to
hold employees accountable and to crack down on local offenders of the law. This organizational
structure added to the control of employees and held the hierarchy accountable. With the control, clear
policy and procedures and consistency in organizing rules it helped the police department to fashion a
bureaucracy in action.
Conclusion
The Organizational theory of Bureaucracy management as explained by Webber, creates controls of
internal accountability that has levels of supervisory control. This is one aspect that to aid in the
processes of inputs and outputs that streamline the process from one criminal justice sector to another.
The New Orleans Police Department is an example of bureaucracy as an organizational theory. As the

Monetary Development And The Federal Reserve System
Monetary development is something that everybody around the globe battles with ordinary. A great
many people are unmindful in respect to what s genuinely happens in the economy as to expansion,
unemployment, and loan costs; these things are all directed by a national bank called the Federal
Reserve System. The arrangement that I will talk about in this paper chooses if unemployment, hobby,
and swelling declines or increment is fiscal strategy. Money related arrangement chooses what value a
man pays for a thing at the store, the amount of premium a man will get charged on an advance for an
auto. These are all things that no one genuinely asks themselves, a great many people simply search

The Federal Reserve System (called the Fed, for short) is the country s national bank. It was set up by
an Act of Congress in 1913 and comprises of the Board of Governors in Washington, D.C., and 12
Federal Reserve District Banks. Congress organized the Fed to be autonomous inside of the
administration that is, in spite of the fact that the Fed is responsible to the Congress and its objectives
are set by law, its behavior of money related approach is protected from everyday political weights.
This mirrors the conviction that the general population who control the nation s cash supply ought to
be free of the general population who outline the administration s spending choices (Investor Words,
2008). The obligation regarding controlling the country s cash supply requires the Federal Reserve to
impact the measure of store assets accessible to banks and in this way the level and bearing of
transient loan fees. Whether banks and other budgetary foundations will make advances relies on upon
the net revenue the distinction in the rate of premium they must pay to draw in stores or acquire assets
and the loan cost they can charge clients for credit. The more noteworthy the net revenue that banks
can understand on new advances, the more they will need to loan. To impact loan fees on stores and
financing costs that banks pay to obtain reserves, the Fed utilizes its congressionally in truth, power to
make cash (Johnson, 2002).

Johnny Appleseed Essay
The legend of Johnny Appleseed developed from the historical account of John Chapman because the
two characters have many similarities in their traits and their journey. Basically, Johnny Appleseed and
Jonathan Chapman are the same people, but the legend exaggerates his character traits, and the
historical accounts state the facts about him. In both accounts, he is very religious because he has his
Bible, which shows Christian belief, with him. The two people also plant apple trees throughout the
frontiers of America. Johnny Appleseed/John Chapman endured many hardships, but Johnny
Appleseed endured more difficulties than John Chapman. Therefore, the legend of Johnny Appleseed
is an exaggeration of the historical account of John Chapman.

Each year, he traveled hundreds of miles on foot wearing a coffee sack with holes cut out for arms and
carrying a cooking pot, which he is said to have worn like a cap over his flowing hair. This quote is
from the historical account of John Chapman. He encountered many hardships in his journey to the
frontiers of America. Summer and winter he wore only a burlap sack cut with armholes and a cooking
pot as a hat... He slept outdoors and ate only meals of bread and milk so as not to harm any creature in
the pursuit of food. Even those nights when a frontier family took him in, he refused a bed in favor of
the floor and requested only porridge to eat. He carried no weapons and he wore no shoes. Folks
marveled at his ability to walk barefoot through snow and brambles without pain. Once, they say, a
venomous snake failed to bite Johnny s foot because his skin was tough as leather. This quote is from
the legend of Johnny Appleseed, and it shows all of the hardships John Chapman faced, and much
more. This shows that the makers of the legend of Johnny Appleseed used the real John Chapman s
hardship and endurance as well as adding more hardships to make the legend more entertaining. John
Chapman also wore a burlap sack and a cooking pot as a hat, as described in the historical text, but he
didn t do the other things listed above. Therefore, people like to hear Johnny Appleseed more than

Beethoven s Major Accomplishments
Ludwig van Beethoven was a famous composer between the Classical and Romantic eras. He was
born in December of 1770, in Bonn, Germany. Ludwig had a terrible childhood, because of his dad
who was an alcoholic most of his life, who was also a musician himself, and with that his father would
make him play the piano and practice every day and would smack him if he made a mistake. This is
how he developed such a talent for music, because of his father. Although he was deaf, he made most
of his famous and important works during that time. He still remains to be the most famous and
influential composers of all time. At the age of seventeen, his teacher and mentor sent him to Vienna,
to study more in depth of the art of music. There in Vienna, he was able to meet great musicians and
composers, such as Mozart. Ludwig would continue to grow in his knowledge of music and writing
great symphonies. From his time in Vienna, he began to excel and people began to notice him. This all
started his impact on music. From Beethoven s famous works, moonlight sonata to the 3rd symphony,
Beethoven is considered as the most well known composer between the transitions of classical music
to the romantic era. (Biography Par. 3) In 1798 when he was 26 years old, he noticed that ... Show

Physics Speed of Sound Lab Report
Samantha Mackey 13. 2nd hour
PHYSICS LAB REPORT: SPEED OF SOUND
Purpose:
In this lab, we will be doing 3 major things: 1) Collecting and organizing data to obtain resonant
points in a closed pipe, 2) measure the length of a closed pipe resonator, and 3) analyze the data to
determine the speed of sound.
Procedure:
1. Fill the graduated cylinder nearly to the top with water, with a tall glass tube open at both ends (the
water level with act as the closed end). 2. Determine the room s air temperature, and also measure the
diameter of the glass tube. Record the data. 3. Select a tuning fork and record the frequency (in Hz) in
the data table. Record the data. 4. Strike the tuning fork against a rubber ... Show more content on

Riversleigh Fossil Site
The Riversleigh fossil site is a part of the Boodjamulla National Park. The site was World Heritage
listed in 1994. The fossil record of Riversleigh s habitats have greatly strengthened our understanding
of evolution, origins, and the history of organisms. Many of the most abnormal and phenomenal
organisms in the Australian fossil record have been discovered at the site. The sight contained about
30,000 footprints from a stampede involving nearly 200 dinosaurs. It sits on the south western
boundary of the Territory of the Waanyi Aboriginal clan. Riversleigh contains a collection of many
fossils from around ten to thirty million years ago. Its record of mammal evolution spans of twenty

Much proof of the evolution of organisms and change in the environment overall is shown through
fossils. Some of the most unusual fossils found in Australia were disovered at Riversleigh. Animals
such as the Lungfish show a strong development in animals as adaptations are cleary seen through, for
example, the fact the the lungfish has developed, working lungs that it can us to breathe with on land
unlike any other fish. The lungfish shows the tranformation of fish swimming only being ablt to live
in water to fish adapting and being able to live on land whilst their body has become dry in the dry
season. It shows the evolution from sealife to land life and shows inbetweens for the evolution of the
creatures. There are also records of many ancestors of animals that walk the earth today. examples
include primative koalas and wombats, a range of ancestral thylacines and platypus, aswe as rodents
whch show the evolution of placental mammals. Many of these organisms evolved from what they
were and adapted as the climate changed to suit more and became the animals we see today. many

Orderly Departure Study
Australia has been involve in many wars such as the Sudan war or World War 2. Australia has one of
the most diverse cultures concentrated in a small region, this is due to many factors, such as wars. The
first generation of the ethinic groups have most likely fled their home land to Australia for safety,
oppurtunity or resources.
During the Vietnam war, many civilians have migrated around the world, including Australia. Before
the war, Vietnamese and other non european migrants found it incredibly hard to gain permission to
migrate to Australia due to the White Austrlia policy. However, the aftermath of the Vietnam war
forced Australia to take refugees in, such as the Vietnamese and Indo Chinese. Note that there was

Many of the Iraq culture originated as refugees from the Iraq first gulf war. Similar situation to the
Vietnam war, Australia had obligation to take in refugees.
Many other wars, such as the Mayalsian, Korean, Japenese, Chinese boxer rebellion and South
African, happening prior to the Vietnam war has attracted refugees, not many came due to the White
Australian policy and the fact that the Orderly Departure program did not influence the refugees,
which is why there is a lower percentage of these cultures (excluding the Chinese due to their
migration after the Vietnam War).
Finally, the Aboriginal culture has been dwindled, where certain clans have died out. This is mainly
due to the White Australian Policy and the Stolen

Theme Of Death In King Lear
Of the deaths in Shakespeare s King Lear, the death of Cordelia and King Lear at the end of Act V are
most significant in revealing the development of Lear and how his development contributes to the
theme surrounding it. The dynamic King Lear is a tragic hero whose fatal flaw, arrogance, prompts his
removal from power and eventually the death of both himself and Cordelia. However, by the time of
King Lear s death, his arrogance has been replaced with a compassion which allows him to mourn the
death of Cordelia and die from his own grief. Besides redeeming himself for his flawed judgement,
the compassionate King Lear of Act V recognizes the loyalty in characters like Kent and Cordelia,
while also seeing through the dishonesty of Regan and Goneril which fools the King Lear of Act I.
King Lear s transition from disowning Cordelia because of his arrogance to recognizing her as his
only faithful daughter is demonstrated through Lear s death, which serves as the culmination of his
development and a reversal of his character. Furthermore, his death elaborates the theme of how
someone s arrogance may blind them from the reality of others intentions, which can be seen through
a more compassionate and humble lens. In King Lear, Lear s conflict of power with his daughters is
brought about by his own arrogance, which flaws his judgement and propels his change of heart.
When Lear parcels out his kingdom to his daughters, he finds the honesty of Cordelia s praise to be
ungrateful and

How Ketchum Is A Small Town Of Northeast Oklahoma That Has...
Ketchum is a small town in northeast Oklahoma that has a present day population of 450 residents.
Ketchum first became a town in 1899 and was named after a Delaware tribe member named James
Ketchum. The town was originally located in the northeast part of Mayes County, close to James and
his wife Elisabeth s home. However, in 1912 once the Kansas, Oklahoma Gulf Railroad was expanded
from Kansas to Texas the town was relocated. Residents moved the town site to the southeastern part
of Craig County sandwiched between Mayes County and Delaware County to be near the railroad.
In 1803 part of the land that would someday become Ketchum was a small portion of the land that was
acquired through the Louisiana Purchase. This land was unsettled and deemed only suitable for Indian
relocation. In 1830 President Andrew Jackson signed The Indian Removal Act and all Indians West of
the Mississippi were forced to move to the Indian Territory. Once the tribes arrived in Indian Territory
they began to rebuild. The struggles to rebuild lasted many years and some tribes never flourish as
they once did. Many of the effects of the forced relocation are still felt today. Because of the forced
removal the Indians did not trust the federal government. When the civil war began in 1861 many of
the Indians sided with the confederates due to the lack of trust they had with the federal government
and many of the tribes fought alongside with the Confederate army. Old Military Road was a road

The Significance Of Character Names In The Lottery By...
In a short story that was written by Shirley Jackson, The Lottery, is a short literature that discussed an
annual lottery draw that took place in a small New England town. In the literature, Jackson presented
the event that took place in the small town very summer time of the year, in which one random
villager get chosen and to be stoned to death by the people in the village. As Jackson stated in her
short literature, the lottery has been practiced in the small village for over seventy years by its town
people (Citation). In this research paper, the project will present the symbolism that Jackson indicated
in the story, the usage of each character s name, objects, the literature location setting and the intention

Another example, the citizens of the town who participates in an annual lottery drawing each year got
no consequences from participating in it. For instance, the irony of Tessie Hutchinson life when in the
beginning of the story, she presents herself with a nonchalant attitude toward the result from the
lottery. However, Tessie Hutchinson becomes dismayed and distraught when she realizes that she will
the one who sacrificed herself. Her final words in the story are the evidence of her own hypocrites, not
just for her nonchalant attitude, but also for her willingness to sacrifice her own daughter life
(Yarmove, 1994). Secondly, the objects that are presented in Jackson literature not only represent the
symbolized meaning to the annual lottery but also the religious perspective to the event. Jackson
stated in the literature, the children in the small town have already started collecting rocks before the
lottery took place. Each of these children picked the smoothest and roundest rocks; the reason behind
this rock picking is because the jagged and knife like rocks would likely kill the lottery winner faster
than the smooth one. Also, the smooth rocks would grant the lottery winner a slower and painful death
during the murderous event, and that the children of the village would easily follow their elderly
footsteps. Another object that presented in the literature is the black box that the old man Warner and
his assistant, Mr. Graves drew the lottery from.

The Perception Of The Human Sciences
Each of us are different in many ways and that fact cannot possible be disputed by anyone who has
any back ground in the human sciences, as it has been scientifically proven that we all have unique
finger prints, DNA, hair, looks, behavior and facial expressions and the combination of these things
make us unique personality types so to speak. We also function from two different perspectives and
we need to understand how each one of us functions. We each like to think that we are special (which
we are) and in that portrayal system, we mostly portray what we perceive we want people to think
about us. On the other side of the coin we have a reality in what we truly believe about ourselves and
the way we feel inwardly. Many of us become disillusioned with our true inner picture, simple
because of a misunderstanding of our personal purpose in life. The fact that we allow this
dissatisfaction to creep into our lives, we create an inner insecurity within ourselves and we then start
looking at others or alternatively we start behaving like others, which is completely outside our true
personality, thereby attempting to look different, behave different, think different, dress different and
when looking at our big picture, become dissatisfied with our true personality, allowing society to
name us as a personality type which is definitely going to influence our level to be successful in life.
Society has made us believe that we need to conform to a standard of behavior, which then

Disadvantages Of Gonorrhoea
Gonorrhoea are fastidious gram negative, facultative, intracellular and typically appear in pairs
(diplococci), in the shape of coffee beans. Among various species of Neisseria that colonize humans,
only N. gonorrhoeae is clinically important responsible for transmission through sexual contact (Elias
J et al., 2011).They are non motile, aerobic, capnophilic, non sporulating, possess pilli to adhere the
surfaces of mucous membrane of warm blooded hosts (Janda Wet et al., 2007). The type IV pili (Biais
N et al., 2008) operate mechanically similar to a grappling hook, which extend and attach to a
substrate that signals the pilus to retract, dragging the cell forward. N. gonorrhoeae are able to pull
100,000 times their own weight, and it has been claimed that the pili used to do so is the strongest

Samsung also increased the investments in their R amp;D centers. After doing the trend analysis for
the Exhibit 3 which shows the Samsung R amp;D budget and percentage sales, We arrive at the
conclusion that the Samsung s R amp;D budget increased till the year 2007 linearly. But there is
decline in the percentage of sales in the year 2007, which suggests that the Samsung will need to
rethink this strategy. There is an urgent need to optimize the cost related to Samsung s R amp;D
expenditure to prevent the decline of sales in future. Samsung globalized their R amp;D network
worldwide to develop technologies which can be commercialized in the future. Basically the main
idea behind the globalization of R amp;D network is to: * Focus on innovation and generating new
products for global market. * There is a huge scope of product improvement. * This provides an
access to the emerging markets. * Leverages the market opportunity for the firm. User Centric Design
Philosophy Samsung s philosophy was to strike the balance between the reasons and feelings. This

Conserving Water For The Future
Conserving Water for the Future Agriculture must mediate between nature and human community,
with ties and obligations in both directions. To farm well requires an elaborate courtesy toward all
creatures, animate and inanimate (Wendell Berry). Farming is a delicate balance between producing
the most possible from the land without destroying the land. In order for farming to be sustainable
more has to be grown with less. Water conservation can be addressed in developing countries by
simply embracing modern farming methods. In developed countries more money will have to be
invested into water saving irrigation methods. There was a time when you didn t shut the water off
when you brushed your teeth and now it is habit to shut the water off to save that little bit of water.
The same spirit will have to implemented in farming simple methods can be used to save water. In
order for farming to be sustainable in an ever changing world, more time and effort needs to be
dedicated to water conservation because the population is growing, water is a finite resource, and
using less water allows farmers to irrigate more land with the same amount of water.
Farmers across the world will have to embrace modern irrigation techniques. Africa is a prime
example of a continent heavily invested in water conservation. In a continent where 23.2% of its
inhabitants are starving they still have farms without irrigation (World Hunger). Well it would require
significant changes switching

Symbolism in Lord of the Flies by William Golding
Gonzalo Barril Merino 3EMC Lord of the Flies Essay Describe the use of symbolism in Lord of the
Flies By understanding symbols, you get a better picture of the novel Lord of the Flies and the hidden
messages and references to human nature and a criticism of society. The author, William Golding, uses
a huge amount of symbolism to reflect society of the outer world with the island. Symbols of fire, the
conch and water are described all throughout the novel. Fire represents hope, strength and knowledge,
but it also represents disorder and destruction, switching from good and useful to evil and
uncontrollable. The conch, a precious shining pink shell, found by Piggy, rescued by Ralph, and later

Rain generates tension and also influences the kids to take bad decisions and act by their instincts.
Ralph dislikes rain; he stated he didn t like clouds, because it reminded him of the day the landed on
the island. Rain is a symbol of tension and discomfort, because kids feel strange when the rain falls of
they re reminded of it, for example, in the second chapter, when Piggy shouts to the kids because they
ran straight to make the fire instead of thinking in shelters. Finally, during Simon s death scene,
waterfalls of rain descended from the clouds, generating even more tension. This tension generated
Simon s death, and the kids negating they participated. Symbols are necessary to understand Lord of
the Flies, because the author makes a complex description of society and human nature, reflecting it in
symbols and characters. The conch represents democracy, and the civilized part of human nature; the
fire represents power and destruction, and the savage part of human nature; and finally water, that
represents an intermediate state. Personally, Lord of the flies is a novel I wouldn t have understood
completely if it weren t for the classes dedicated to analyze the book and it secret meanings and
messages. I would just have read it as a common book, without analyzing how society is

Cultural Discrimination In Pecola By Toni Morrison
There is also the lack of healthy interpersonal relationship between the parents and child. Cholly
Breedlove twice rapes his biological daughter in a fit of drunkenness and impregnates her. Pecola does
not receive the parental love and care which she was supposed to get from her parents. Cholly is an
absent and uncaring father. Whereas, Paulin does not believe her daughter when she gets to know that
Cholly, her husband, has raped their daughter Pecola. She beats Pecola instead and makes her
unconscious. Cholly s blackness infuriates him and compels him to believe that he is ugly and so he
does not deserve a better life. He is a sadist character who only loves to inflict pain on others.
This novel also demonstrates how centuries of cultural mutilation of Black people in America leads to
a psychological oppression and subjugation. Self proclaimed inferiority operated in the Blacks of
America and they could not break their minds free from the shackles of racial inferiority. It became a
culturally imposed racism for them. Their blackness implied their inferiority to the Whites in America.
Similarly, the Breedlove family also accepts the hollow notion of whiteness and consequently
experiences its damaging outcomes. In Pecola, there operates a growing self loathing. Through her
character, Morrison attempts to paint a more complicated and deeper portrayal of the effects of racism
via how self loathing eclipses the minds of Black people. Breedlove family was said to be ugly

challenge of managing diverse strategies, tactics, techniques and tools, while most of our training is

skills that lead to a reduced ability to deal with different styles of attack, eventually the essential
fundamentals were fused in cohesive core. The same conundrum faces the armed citizen. Developing
the fundamental skills of communicating, moving, hands in a defensive position, and presenting the

Compression is the length of the arms of both the attacker and defender, or a distance that allows the
gun to be grabbed. The compressed position allows us greater control over the firearm. Extension is
the end of the draw, arms extended in our final firing position. This the best position to use our sights
and control the firearm, if there is adequate space. Beyond contact range we find several positions that
occur needing practice to solve the timing issue of maintaining trigger finger and muzzle discipline.
One of these is the hand on the gun and the support hand extended to the threat, possibly emphasizing
the command of stay back, or handing valuables to the attacker. Practice bringing the support hand
back rapidly to the chest , moving to the side, thus ensuring we don t shoot ourselves when we draw.
The concealed, or surreptitious draw using our body to conceal our draw with a distracted adversary,
is an area of concern. Muzzle and trigger discipline needs to be strictly followed. There is a tendency
to sweep the firearm to the target, muzzling ourselves and others, conversely slowing the presentation

If the terrorists are successful, one of the Middle East s most terrible dictators will tilt the balance of
power in his favor. It looks like no one has the skill or capacity to stop the remorseless leader except
for ace covert operator Jake Grafton. An ace pilot, Jake pilots an F 14 Tomcat, which is quite a
spectacular plane. But the odds are not stacked in his favor as he has lost most of his crewmates, and
suspects a woman onboard the ship to be a spy. Faced with difficult choices his instinct tells him to

Why Schools Are Not to Blame for Cyber Bullying Essay
A young boy was once sitting on his computer when he saw an email from one of his peers. He
opened the email, and soon enough realized he was being bullied. However, the young boy let the
cyber bullying get out of control. His parents told the school about it, but there was nothing they could
do. The boy had to go to a new school where he wouldn t be bullied. There are many problems like
this that get out of hand, so much that the school can do nothing to help. Many people blame the
school for not helping, when there is nothing they can do about it. Therefore, schools do not have the
responsibility to respond to and protect students from the challenge of cyber bullying, even if it s off
campus.

They said that students must learn themselves that they should not say something online that they
wouldn t say in person. For example, if a student calls someone ugly online, they probably wouldn t
say that in person. However, the school cannot do anything to stop this because they did it at
home. The school systems cannot be held responsible for things that students do at home, and they
should therefore, not be responsible to take action against cyber bullying.
Others would say that schools do have the responsibility to prevent bullying when the schools helping
to prevent bullying empowers students to face up to their bullies. However, this is not the
case.Students would not be empowered to stand up to their bullies if schools took responsibility for
the students. Instead of standing up to the bullies themselves, the students would probably try to make
the school take care of it. This goes to show that having the school take care of bullying for the
students, would not help the students learn how to take care of things on their own. For example, if the
students figured out that the school would take care of something for them, they would not want to do
things themselves. Most students would probably get lazy. Therefore, schools should not be bound by
law to take care of bullying because students would become lazy.
Lastly, schools do not have the responsibility to respond to the cyber bullying of their students is
because sometimes, students do not tell

Rhetoric On Divorce
Public rhetoric suggests that society as entered a new era of divorce and marriage (Adams, Coltrane,
2006). Post divorce reform efforts were projected on making divorce easier and fair. However,
changing these reform into marriage promotion was encouraged because of the effect divorce has on
multiples areas of the society. That is why the White House administration with the organized
Marriage Movement enthusiastically promotes marriage for the welfare of our society. This
organization has the assumption that healthy marriage will makes divorce go away and stated that as
part of the process of making more happy successful marriage, marriage education, premarital
counseling, reduction of marriage fees, is needed (Adams, Coltrane, 2006). It is important to clarify
that our White House spirit in promoting marriage does not wants to stigmatize single and/or fathers
mothers neither divorced individuals and rather, they wanted to promote politics that works at baseline
levels to prevent divorce and encourage the solid ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hispanics may also experience difficulties tolerating the new social environment and U.S.
idiosyncrasy (e.g., economic independence of the women and equality of roles). That is why; pre
marital counseling and psychoeducation may be beneficial building resilience among Hispanics, and
providing them social resources that help to adjust the new perspectives of the couples dynamics.
Counseling and psychoeducation should address concepts such as machismo and familism. Our
community design is not only destined to work with Hispanic individuals, however, considering the
community in Miami Dade and the influences of the Latino population in the culture and dynamics of
our city, traditions and values within Hispanics are

HOSA Personal Statement
Everyone has a dream or something they want to follow in life. Some want material gain while others
want to help as many people as they can. I m not saying wanting material gain is a bad thing, but what
I am saying is that for me, money is not the number one concern when my dream is to help others. My
hunger to help others only grows by the day. Because of what s going on in the world we live in today,
I believe that it is important that those who are less fortunate than others have the assistance they need
to get to an even playing field, health wise, with others.
Throughout my life, I always enjoyed to help everyone. When I was little, I actually loved being the
teacher s pet. My naive child mind thought I was the bomb by helping my teachers. I probably made
my poor teacher s life harder but my heart was in the right place. More times or not I was always
helping someone. I would be the kid that my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To be the caring person I say I am, I learned to be very observant of others around me. At my school I
earned the position of president of our Future Health Professionals chapter (HOSA). HOSA is a peer
led club brought together with a common interest in a future medical profession. My first year of
being in HOSA, my president started to show me all the paths in the medical world. Later in my high
school career, I knew I could do the same for others. So I became president after my former said
president left for college. For me, being president isn t a title. It is a responsibility to do everything in
the best interest of everyone in HOSA. By becoming president, I am able to set projects in place that
provide everyone with hands on experience. This way I can help students get a finer understanding of
the medical world. I observe to make sure that everybody is getting the best experience I can provide.
If I can help one person find their path in life, then I believe I did the best job as president I could

  • 3. The Findings After Testing Quantized Inertia On The Emdrive The purpose of this article was to report the findings after testing quantized inertia on the EmDrive. The authors predicted that the thrust produced by the EmDrive can be explained assuming that the inertial mass of the photons is caused by unruh radiation. Multiple experiments took place in several independent labs, and produced results that were similar to the predicted values for thrust. The computations of the results did not sufficiently model wave oscillations in 3D, thus the authors recommend further testing in order to produce more accurate findings. The text is formatted as a journal article and has been peer reviewed. It was published on August 31, 2015, in Europhyiscs Letters, a journal founded in 1986 by the European Physical Society. The article references multiple sources that are also academically reliable. This source will be used to introduce one of the current theories attempting to explain how the EmDrive produces thrust. The article also addresses the lack of scientific explanation which will help to prove my own credibility in the report as I address a multitude of theories. Because the article was published recently I will likely introduce this source last. Standard physics has no explanation for this and an error has not yet been found... Economic, Technological, and Social Aspects of Ocean Acidification Natasha Pirani November 29, 2014 ENVP 500 Developing a Sustainability Perspective Dr. Liza Ireland Ocean acidification is the decrease in the acidity levels of the Earth s oceans, caused by the intake of carbon dioxide emitted in to the environment and atmosphere. Since the industrial revolution, fossil fuel powered machines have increased human technology and advancement. However, this has caused the emissions, large amounts of carbon dioxide, deforestation, and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Ocean acidification, in turn, has created a benefit to us by slowing down climate change by absorbing the emissions in the water that have remained in the air. However, studies are now starting to show that the massive amounts of carbon dioxide in the water bodies are altering the water chemistry and affecting the biodiversity and life cycles of many marine organisms, especially those at the lower end of the food chain. Other organisms living off the food chain would be part of a symbiotic relationship involving nutrient cycling: where all other organisms are feeding off of the larger one, yet are providing some benefit to the overall host. Washington State is sensitive to the impacts of ocean acidification because of its location and oceanography. Some regional factors include, upwelling, hypoxia, nitrogen oxides /sulfur oxides, and watershed inputs of nutrients, (Blue Ribbon Panel, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The documents on European Imperialism provide evidence for how the individuals in the Congo are being exploited for European benefit, under the profit making aim of King Leopold II. European brutality in the Congo was the logical result of the European desire to implement proper civilization in the Congo, albeit through a lack of cultural understanding and compassion towards the people of Congo. First, the document Selections from the 1885 Berlin Act (Treaty) was an outline to the European people that King Leopold II had good intentions for his mission in the Congo. However, it depicted the contradiction of what his true intentions were and what had actually occurred. King Leopold outlined six Declarations for what he desired to change for the Congo. Leopold stated, for instance, his desire to create a change in the freedom of trade for the people of the Congo, as well the creation of a Declaration relative to the slave trade, and the operations by sea or land which furnish slaves to that trade. These Declarations relate to the thesis of how the Europeans were directed in a way to think it was logical to create a change in the significant issues in the Congo. The Europeans were lead to believe these six Declarations would benefit the civilization of the Congo, by doing no harm. In actual fact. Leopold fails to point out how he intends to follow ... The main reason for this type of policing was to control the slave populations that outnumbered the white population. Throughout the years the police force evolved and the New Orleans Police Department was created in 1852. This allowed for a consolidation of independent police jurisdiction and was apart of a reform of all city government levels. To create an atmosphere of internal honesty a hierarchy was put in place to hold employees accountable and to crack down on local offenders of the law. This organizational structure added to the control of employees and held the hierarchy accountable. With the control, clear policy and procedures and consistency in organizing rules it helped the police department to fashion a bureaucracy in action. Theme Of Death In King Lear Of the deaths in Shakespeare s King Lear, the death of Cordelia and King Lear at the end of Act V are most significant in revealing the development of Lear and how his development contributes to the theme surrounding it. The dynamic King Lear is a tragic hero whose fatal flaw, arrogance, prompts his removal from power and eventually the death of both himself and Cordelia. However, by the time of King Lear s death, his arrogance has been replaced with a compassion which allows him to mourn the death of Cordelia and die from his own grief. Besides redeeming himself for his flawed judgement, the compassionate King Lear of Act V recognizes the loyalty in characters like Kent and Cordelia, while also seeing through the dishonesty of Regan and Goneril which fools the King Lear of Act I. King Lear s transition from disowning Cordelia because of his arrogance to recognizing her as his only faithful daughter is demonstrated through Lear s death, which serves as the culmination of his development and a reversal of his character. Furthermore, his death elaborates the theme of how someone s arrogance may blind them from the reality of others intentions, which can be seen through a more compassionate and humble lens. In King Lear, Lear s conflict of power with his daughters is brought about by his own arrogance, which flaws his judgement and propels his change of heart. We also function from two different perspectives and we need to understand how each one of us functions. Many of us become disillusioned with our true inner picture, simple because of a misunderstanding of our personal purpose in life. The fact that we allow this dissatisfaction to creep into our lives, we create an inner insecurity within ourselves and we then start looking at others or alternatively we start behaving like others, which is completely outside our true personality, thereby attempting to look different, behave different, think different, dress different and when looking at our big picture, become dissatisfied with our true personality, allowing society to name us as a personality type which is definitely going to influence our level to be successful in life. However, this is not the case.Students would not be empowered to stand up to their bullies if schools took responsibility for the students. Instead of standing up to the bullies themselves, the students would probably try to make the school take care of it. This goes to show that having the school take care of bullying for the students, would not help the students learn how to take care of things on their own. For example, if the students figured out that the school would take care of something for them, they would not want to do things themselves. Most students would probably get lazy. Therefore, schools should not be bound by law to take care of bullying because students would become lazy. Lastly, schools do not have the responsibility to respond to the cyber bullying of their students is because sometimes, students do not tell ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Rhetoric On Divorce Public rhetoric suggests that society as entered a new era of divorce and marriage (Adams, Coltrane, 2006). Post divorce reform efforts were projected on making divorce easier and fair. However, changing these reform into marriage promotion was encouraged because of the effect divorce has on multiples areas of the society. That is why the White House administration with the organized Marriage Movement enthusiastically promotes marriage for the welfare of our society. This organization has the assumption that healthy marriage will makes divorce go away and stated that as part of the process of making more happy successful marriage, marriage education, premarital counseling, reduction of marriage fees, is needed (Adams, Coltrane, 2006). It is important to clarify that our White House spirit in promoting marriage does not wants to stigmatize single and/or fathers mothers neither divorced individuals and rather, they wanted to promote politics that works at baseline levels to prevent divorce and encourage the solid ... • 45. HOSA Personal Statement Everyone has a dream or something they want to follow in life. Some want material gain while others want to help as many people as they can. I m not saying wanting material gain is a bad thing, but what I am saying is that for me, money is not the number one concern when my dream is to help others. My hunger to help others only grows by the day. Because of what s going on in the world we live in today, I believe that it is important that those who are less fortunate than others have the assistance they need to get to an even playing field, health wise, with others. Throughout my life, I always enjoyed to help everyone. When I was little, I actually loved being the teacher s pet. My naive child mind thought I was the bomb by helping my teachers. I probably made my poor teacher s life harder but my heart was in the right place. More times or not I was always helping someone. I would be the kid that my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To be the caring person I say I am, I learned to be very observant of others around me. At my school I earned the position of president of our Future Health Professionals chapter (HOSA). HOSA is a peer led club brought together with a common interest in a future medical profession. My first year of being in HOSA, my president started to show me all the paths in the medical world. Later in my high school career, I knew I could do the same for others. So I became president after my former said president left for college. For me, being president isn t a title. It is a responsibility to do everything in the best interest of everyone in HOSA. By becoming president, I am able to set projects in place that provide everyone with hands on experience. This way I can help students get a finer understanding of the medical world. I observe to make sure that everybody is getting the best experience I can provide. If I can help one person find their path in life, then I believe I did the best job as president I could ...
