Apologetics Definition
Apologetics In definition, Apologetics is to argue, or better said, justify your beliefs. Typically, it
follows up with religious topics that people, for whatever reason, feel the need to scuffle over what
they believe to be right or wrong. As we all know, religion has been the main topic in most fights for
eons and has yet to even falter over time. From observations, I ve noticed that individuals tend to get
rather heated over the subject, and have even been known to cause harm to one another if so inclined
to do so. Personally, I don t believe Apologetics is necessary under most circumstances. If one feels so
powerless in their faith to have to fight about it, they probably shouldn t bother having one at all. This
comes to the main question

Young Undocumented Immigrants
Living under the threat of deportation is something in which most do not struggle with. Many
undocumented immigrants are growing up in the United States that live in fear of being deported.
Legislation has been proposed in the United States to try and protect these young undocumented
immigrants and help them get an education by introducing a bipartisan bill called the Development,
Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act. Though this law helps out those individual students who
grew up in the United States by giving them a chance to contribute to our country s well being by
pursuing a higher education and providing a clear path for those young immigrants to attain
citizenship and certain main advantages; it does not automatically make anyone ... Show more content

Out of the immigrants that could be able to qualify under the DREAM Act, 68% already have a high
school diploma or a GED. 11% have a Master s degree, professional degree, or a Doctorate. Arne
Duncan Secretary of Education from 2009 through 2015 stated that passing the DREAM Act Will be
playing an important part in the nation s effects to have the highest proportion of college graduates in
the world by 2020. Legalizing our country s undocumented immigrant population and reforming our
legal immigrant system would add more than $1.5 trillion expanding the U.S Gross domestic product
over a decade. The program would also add $329 billion to the U.S economy by 2030. (Fitz) In the
article, Legalization of Unauthorized Immigrants Would Benefit the U.S Economy from Opposing
Viewpoints; Research by UCLA Professor Raul Hinojosa Ojeda found that the tax benefits alone from
legalization would be between $4.5 billion and $5.4 billion in the first three years. The Congressional
Budget Office concluded that deporting nearly 700,000 eligible participants would cost taxpayers

Ecclesiastes 1-3 Analysis
Existence of God Worksheet Ecclesiastes 1 3
Ecclesiastes is a book in the Hebrew Bible (the OT) that falls into the Wisdom literature genre. In it
the Teacher (possibly Solomon though this is far from certain and unnecessary for understanding the
book) expresses what life is like under the sun (see 1:3). Given the three storied view of the world
(heaven, earth, under the earth) that was common during this period, the expression probably refers to
life on the earth and, in particular, to life lived without reference to God.
As the Teacher contemplates this world, verses 2 11 of chapter one appear to be a depiction of what he
finds: as things change, they really just stay the same. Generations pass, but the earth remains. The sun
comes up and goes down every day. The winds blow in a continual circuit, returning again and ...

The Teacher pursued the understanding of wisdom and the madness and folly (foolishness) (1:17). The
Teacher s conclusions about seeking wisdom and the madness and folly was that when you receive
wisdom it comes at a price of sorrow (1:18).
Would pursuing this same interest as an attempt to understand the divine order of things be likely to
change these conclusions? Why or why not? How different would this be than seeking this interest just
for itself?
I think that by attempting to understand the divine order of things you still would have the same
results of sorrow, the more knowledge, the more grief. Despite what the knowledge is about (For
example: God, languages, computers, or books) knowledge is knowledge. With that knowledge comes
responsibility. The responsibly of sharing that knowledge and wisdom with others. When comparing
this to seeking for your own interest I personally believe that the same standard stands. That when you
learn something you should share your knowledge.
In light of this how does God s existence provide purpose to this

Essay on Prohibition in 20th Century America
Prohibition in 20th Century America
In the early part of the 20th century some people had had enough of liquor and its deleterious effects
on people and their behavior. Some believed that alcohol, and drunkenness were the most worrying
afflictions that our nation faced. At least on the surface this was what prohibition was about. On the
flip side, it seemed that prohibition was about a still dominant, overwhelmingly rural, white Anglo
Saxon Protestant establishment, aware that its privileges and natural right to rule were being
increasingly threatened by the massive arrival of largely despised (and feared) beer swilling, wine
drinking new American immigrants (Behr, 1996). Many of the Americans had descended from
Protestant, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many of these believers were fanatical in their beliefs and in the delivery and spread of their message.
Little by little the movements gained a stronger and stronger following of those who believed that
alcohol and its consumption were rotting away the moral integrity, health, and overall foundation of
American society. One of the largest constituents of this group was women. Women became so fixated
on this cause that they made it into the first women s mass movement in American history...[and] also
the modern world s first large scale, nonviolent protest movement (Behr, 1996). These women used
their determination and a strict sense of religious morality to spread their message and to gain a large
audience as their efforts became increasingly covered in the increasingly important newspapers.
Prohibition was enacted as the 18th amendment to the Constitution. The bill, known as the Volstead
Act, after Andrew J. Volstead, a Republican congressman from the state of Minnesota, was introduced
on the 27th of May, 1919. After three months of debate the bill was passed by a vote of 255 to 166. On
the 5th of September the Senate voted and passed the bill too. It was then made official after a final
vote in the House of 321 to 70, and so was made law on October 10th (Behr, 1996).
The law made sure that alcohol was not easy to lay hands on. All advertising was banned along with
the consumption and production of alcohol itself. Also any equipment

Extra Gum released a commercial to touch the hearts of potential gum costumers. It is set up in the
style of a music video to a touching love song. The video starts in a High School where are girl and

Hurricane Katrina Problems
Natural disasters are devastating and affect everyone where they hit, but they particularly affect racial
minorities and those who fall below the poverty line. Without resources or money to rebuild, the
impoverished and minorities are forced to figure out their own plan to recover from the natural
disaster. Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, Louisiana and caused a myriad of issues with its
residents. Some of the problems the impoverished and minorities faced were: evacuating New
Orleans, homelessness, rebuilding, and unjust treatment from the government. Natural disasters,
specifically Hurricane Katrina, cause a socioeconomic dichotomy between the lower class and the
upper and leave the population in a state of pandemonium, and trying to figure out ways to recover.
Before the Storm In 2005, Hurricane Katrina devastated the city of New Orleans in Louisiana. Most of
the city s population suffered some sort of loss whether it was a fatality, loss of property, or a lack of
resources or money to rebuild. However, each social class and race did not suffer the same losses; the
underprivileged and racial minorities suffered much greater losses than those who had the resources or
money to evacuate (Bates 5). The evacuation system set in place by the Louisiana government was
almost nonexistent. The plan was for the population of New Orleans to try evacuating the city before
Katrina hit. The upper class had the money and means of transportation to leave the city and enter

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Open Range Vs Factory Farming
Factory or Open Range Most people thinks of a farms as a place where people shove as many different
kind of livestock in a small area to make the most for the space they ve. This isn t true in most cases of
farming, and for the few factories that process to run this way makes the other farms that produces a
large amount of livestock looks as if they are using the same technicians. Factory farming and open
range farming are two completely different ways of growing and rising livestock. I have raised
livestock for 7 years now as well learned everything I know about livestock from a family who have
been farming for 6 generations. Factory farms have larger numbers in smaller space when open range
is more space per animal two different ways of raising animals yet, neither of these technically wrong
way of producing. Reputations have always caused ways of life to look worse then what really
happens. To be a factory farm is when you have a vast amount of certain type of livestock in a space
that is smaller but, not necessarily in a confine space were nothing could move. Using pigs as
examples a factory farm would use the rule of thumb of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For livestock the more room an animal has to graze longer it takes to add weight on to it. For example
with swine with more space have more room to run around burn their calories and this helps gain
mussels mass but it s a slower than, adding the weight from feeding, slopping them. Even thought this
makes a leaner, healthier hog, the consumers comely believe their isn t enough flavor in the meat
without the fat balance. The other struggle is that if the farm has the same amount of space as the
farmer who farms factory style they will have less product due to more space per head. From pluses to
negatives of farming more open range style there is more of a preference on the way someone believes
the correct way to raise

Mesothelioma Research Paper
What is Mesothelioma?
Mesothelioma is a unusual form of cancer that occurs in the mesothelium (a thin layer of tissue that
covers most of our internal organs.) In most cases, the tissue near the lungs is affected. However, cases
have been reported in which other body organs are affected with this condition. This form of cancer is
extremely aggressive and often proves deadly if it is malignant Mesothelioma.
Know the Risk Factors
Although quite a few materials can possibly cause this disease, mesothelioma is mainly attributed to
exposure to asbestos as reported by the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry of the
CDC. In addition, Asbestos has been classified by the EPA as a human carcinogen.
According to the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention), exposure to asbestos increases the
risk of developing malignant Mesothelioma. The latency period for the disease is ... Show more

This exposure affects individuals in different ways. Few factors are involved, including frequency,
concentration and duration of exposure as well as the size, shape and chemical makeup of the fibers
that determine your chances of contracting Mesothelioma.
It is normal to feel concerned about Mesothelioma if you have experienced chronic exposure to
asbestos. Doctors advise that such people should get regular chest x rays or CT scans. They should
also get lung function tests as these tests can spot problems caused by asbestos fibers. If any problems
are detected, you must obtain a professional Mesothelioma diagnosis. In the event of being diagnosed
with Mesothelioma, you have the rights for filing a lawsuit. A Mesothelioma lawsuit can help you
claim imbursement for the additional costs borne in dealing with this disease as well as for the
resulting emotional distress and

The Sniper Short Story Analysis
The Sniper
By: Liam O Flaherty
The Sniper , the author creates suspense by having an increase in pacing, through the words in the
story, decreasing/slowing down is used through words like still, and paused Finally, he creates
suspense by having back to back rapid conflicts, The suspense is created by Liam O Flaherty, who is
the author of this short story suspense.
Throughout this story you re faced with feelings of anticipation, suspense, and you may even appear
to be solicitous. Showing empathy, and being held on the edge of your seat throughout each
captivating paragraph, is common in this particular story.
The first paragraphs you are brought to have a sense of what some view as slow, and/or boring , since
it doesn t have much going on right off of the bat, you start off with a suspenseful introduction, by the
author giving you what is perceived to be as a gloomy/muggy setting. You are brought to a theme with
an increasing pace also included in the first paragraph with a small excerpt of Here and there through
the city, machine guns and rifles broke the silence of the night, spasmodically, like dogs barking on
lone farms. Republicans and Free States were waging civil war. (O Flaherty 1)
Increasing pace is shown and supported throughout this story by the sniper running into suspense and
hardships in an orderly way, which creates a feeling/emotion of what is known to be suspense. We are
able to see what he sees and feel what he has felt. We enter this psychologically thriller by the authors
ability to grab you, and hold you captive in your own mind with his words.
Decreasing pace is developed by the mood being slow and gloomy at times. It slowly yet surely leads
into conflict over and over. For example Placing a cigarette between his lips, he struck a match,
inhaled the smoke hurriedly and put out the light. Almost immediately, a bullet flattened itself against
the parapet of the roof. The sniper took another whiff and put out the cigarette. Then he swore softly
and crawled away to the left. (O Flaherty 1)
Timing in this short story makes this story suspenseful, with the words he uses and where he places
them, he keeps his readers drawn in with the lacking of dull moments. You are

Mental Health Issues Impacted By Psychological Stress
Health is an essential and important matter that the individual, collective and authorities of a country
understand is central to our well being and because of this significance a great deal of time and
finance goes into its maintenance or restored state. However degrees of discrepancy occur as
individuals, societies and governments have different views towards health that affect how we treat an
illness and who we seek help from. Now, generally, Canadians recognize that the country employs a
biomedical model of health which operates on observable and empirical approaches; these approaches
are representative of the western perception used to understand and consequently treat issues
surrounding health. Although the current model has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

both from a historical and contemporary view. Case studies provide a grasp of what it means to view
social and psychological health based on Ojibwa medicine women and the ways they have used their

Cultural variations reflect the different ways a society functions and perceive social issues and
complex concerns; these variations express a groups unique perspective of the world which tend to
influence and shape the individual worldview and behavior of a people belonging to any specific
culture/group. Robert Redfield simply defined world view as that outlook upon the universe that is
characteristic of a people (Hallowell, 1960). The significance of this quote highlights the idea that
individuals belonging to any specific group hold similar or distinctive perceptions of the world unique
to them. Perceptions and/or worldviews are fundamental thoughts and ideas that influence how one
interacts with the world; they are picked up from our respective environments and reflect core values.
Consequently this creates characteristic views of a group of people and the way they experience the
world will have

The Challenge of the Native Americans
The film selections for this assignment are as compelling as they are dramatic. Many issues are
addressed and presented in various genres varying from drama to fantasy. All these films, however,
have a single theme, which is embedded in the background; an attentive viewer may be able to
observe it. The issue is the challenge of the Native Americans to adjust to the modern post industrial
world culturally and economically, all the while remaining loyal to and preserving their traditions.
This single issue encompasses all other issues that may be perceived in the films. In fact, all other

Instead of portraying objective, factual reality, it is biased toward the plight of the Navajo Natives, and
designed to invoke sympathy for the Navajo s plight, and righteous indignation within the audience
against the corrupt, powerful corporate energy and mining business, and their cronies in Washington
D.C. Similarly to popular films, the movie appeals to the Categorical Imperative, an internal sense of
justice within the audience. The film narrates a brief history of the Navajo people, and the history of
consistent violation of treaties signed between the Navajo and the U.S government, on the part of the
government. In the center of the conflict lies the immense abundance of the natural resources that are
located on the Navajo land, and the big corporate and governmental machinations, designed to exploit
these resources at all costs. These machinations resulted in forceful removal of the Navajo people
from their land, and permanently altered their way of life. The film is filled with dramatic scenes of
powerful machinery destroying Navajo s sacred sites, and their very lives, in the name of the corporate
financial prosperity. These dramatic frames are accompanied by the angelic voice of Laura Nyro and
her song Broken Rainbow. Opposite of the cold, steel machinery, the Navajo s humble, pastoral and

Living As A Lesbian, And August Jordan s A New Politics...
The articles that stood out the most to me were Cheryl Clarke s Living As a Lesbian and June Jordan s
A New Politics of Sexuality . These articles stood out, because while given a similar topic (lesbians)
they both possessed very different, yet similar arguments. I found this interesting because it is a prime
example of societies different views on controversial topics. Cheryl and June s articles contain many
differences, similarities and information to be reflected on.
Cheryl s main arguments are that everyone who loves women (whether its romantically, sexually,
platonically, etc.) is a feminist and lesbians are all part of a rebellion. She states, No matter how a
woman lives out her lesbianism she has rebelled against becoming the slave master s concubine, viz.,
the male dependent female, the female heterosexual. This gives evidence towards her argument that
lesbians, regardless their intentions are resisting from the constructs that society wants them to adhere
to. June would disagree with this statement, arguing that lesbians aren t solely out to rebel but are just
pursuing their lives freely. Cheryl also points out that there is no one sort of lesbian and that whether
you consider yourself a full blown lesbian or bisexual it doesn t change the fact that you are resisting
against the heterosexual society. This being true, Cheryl Clarke also disagrees with the idea of
bisexuality; whereas June Jordan identifies as bisexual. Following along with this Cheryl

Viral Hemorrhagic Fever and Ebola Virus Species
What is Ebola hemorrhagic fever? Ebola hemorrhagic fever (Ebola HF) is a severe, often fatal disease
in humans and nonhuman primates (monkeys, gorillas, and chimpanzees) that has appeared
sporadically since its initial recognition in 1976. The disease is caused by infection with Ebola virus,
named after a river in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire) in Africa, where it was
first recognized. The virus is one of two members of a family of RNA viruses called the Filoviridae.
There are five identified subtypes of Ebola virus. Four of the five have caused disease in humans:
Ebola Zaire, Ebola Sudan, Ebola Ivory Coast and Ebola Bundibugyo. The fifth, Ebola Reston, has
caused disease in nonhuman primates, but not in humans. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Persons tested later in the course of the disease or after recovery can be tested for IgM and IgG
antibodies; the disease can also be diagnosed retrospectively in deceased patients by using
immunohistochemistry testing, virus isolation, or PCR.
How is Ebola hemorrhagic fever treated?
There is no standard treatment for Ebola HF. Patients receive supportive therapy. This consists of
balancing the patient s fluids and electrolytes, maintaining their oxygen status and blood pressure, and
treating them for any complicating infections.
How is Ebola hemorrhagic fever prevented?
The prevention of Ebola HF in Africa presents many challenges. Because the identity and location of
the natural reservoir of Ebola virus are unknown, there are few established primary prevention
measures.
If cases of the disease do appear, current social and economic conditions often favor the spread of an
epidemic within health care facilities. Therefore, health care providers must be able to recognize a
case of Ebola HF should one appear. They must also have the capability to perform diagnostic tests
and be ready to employ practical viral hemorrhagic fever isolation precautions, or barrier nursing
techniques. These techniques include the wearing of protective clothing, such as masks, gloves,
gowns, and goggles; the use of infection control measures, including complete equipment sterilization;
and the isolation of Ebola HF patients from contact with unprotected

Summary Of Joe Kanty s Spunk
Throughout the short story Spunk , Joe Kanty, (the husband of Lena Kanty) plays a certain role that
deals a lot with disrespect, miscommunication, and the morals of specific boundaries that need to be
set when dealing with the rights and wrong doings of your spouse. Joe is the type of character that sort
of stays in his shell, meaning that he doesn t necessarily express his feelings as much as he might want
to. He is very scrawny and quiet, and is afraid to stick up for himself. As if he allows people to run
over him because he s too shy or too trapped in himself to actually speak up about what s on his mind
or bothering him the most. Joe would be the type to probably let someone walk all over him. He could
say something to other characters in the story, and then as the reader, you might think to yourself he
doesn t seem too sure , or he might not actually mean what he s saying, he s just trying to talk big in
front of his friends, because in reality, he seems a little unsure of how he really wants to address his
situation. With this being said, Joe could be gloomy when it comes down to the fact of him seeing his
wife and knowing that everyone else is seeing his wife with another man. The way he goes about
addressing the fact though is harsh and he could ve handled the situation a little better than what he
did. For example, in the story, after Walter and Elijah were talking to Joe about seeing his wife with
another man, it said how he stood there silent for a long

very familiar to me, as I have already gone through them. What I took out of this that I felt was the
most surprising aspect of the macrocycle, was how well thought out, and how far ahead the
preparation is for the training of the university s athletes. The thing that I took out of this paper that I
will try to take with me the rest of my athletic career, is that there is a lot of preparation and effort that
goes into my training here, and these training programs are made for my benefit, so I should not waste
the strength coach s time by not giving it my all in the weight room, or not showing up at all. I will
continue to follow the macrocycle for the rest of my career here at Corcyra, and hopefully it will take

The Active Participation Of The People Regarding Political...
Arian Rahmi
Dr. David Fisk
Political Science 101
14 January 2015
Final Examination
The active participation of the people regarding their political culture is paramount to the durability
and vitality of their regime. That is, a population that fosters a positive spirit in support of their
government and ardently engages mutually within it will ultimately support a sturdy democracy.
Furthermore, a democracy standing on the virtues of trust and civic engagement within its people will
be able to stand tall and powerful because it s people will be able to cooperate to essentially get more
accomplished.
To begin, the primary element that defines a strong democracy is social capital. Social capital is
defined as, ...features of social organization, such as trust, norms, and networks, that can improve the
efficiency of society by facilitating coordinated actions, (Putnam 167). Putnam posits a very effective
example concerning social capital: ...a group whose members manifest trustworthiness and place
extensive trust in one another will be able to accomplish much more than a comparable group lacking
that trustworthiness and trust, (Putnam 167). In this example he highlights the importance of a
relationship built around trust and how it lends itself to getting more accomplished.
Through social capital, there is a spontaneous cooperation within the people. Spontaneous cooperation
emphasizes the value of trust, and the importance of being both reliable and honest as a

Bali Nine Argument Essay
1. Introduction
In 2005, nine young Australian men were arrested in Indonesia for attempting to smuggle 8.3kg of
heroin out of Indonesia. The group s two ringleaders, Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran, were
sentenced to death by the Indonesian court. With all appeals for clemency rejected, they were executed
by firing squad on the 29th April 2015 ( Bali Nine: Timeline of key events , 2015). Following the
execution, many members of the public questioned whether this decision by the Indonesian
Government was justified. Relating arguments from different perspective including the Indonesia s
sovereign right, debated the effect on the international relationship and the deterrent effect on the drug
trade in Indonesia. Although the men were already executed, it is important to understanding the
rationality of the justification behind this decision, as it determines whether to support or to prevent
similar decision, if and when the same situation happen again.
2. Historical development

Critical Analysis Of Edward Scissorhands
Edward Scissorhands, directed by Tim Burton in 1990, features Burton s distinctive style, themes and
story elements. Moreover, it is influenced stylistically by the German Expressionism; distortion of
objects and bodies, such as the trimmed hedges, Gothic elements, for instance Edward s castle or his
clothes, and the music played throughout the film, curves and crooked lines in the pathway of the
neighbourhood, and the Chiaroscuro lighting (low key lightning) in most of the scenes. Peg Boggs
(Dianne Wiest), a local Avon door to door saleswoman tries to sell her products around her
neighbourhood, until she arrives to the old, abandoned Gothic mansion in the outskirts of Spring

experiment by a mad scientist, who died just ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most relevant arguments for claiming that the film is good enough to recommend it is that
the film has authorship personality; that is, throughout the movie audience may realise that there are
lots of Burton s characteristic features: such as the visual style, contrasting the pastel colours (blue,
green, orange, and pink) in the houses of Spring Hopes, with the Gothic ones (mainly black) in
Edward s clothes and castle. It seems Edward is brought to the neighbourhood to show that there is
another valid lifestyle; the otherness has to be accepted even though it seems to be too bizarre at first.
Furthermore, the exploration of the otherness and the characters, such as Edward, who exist outside
the boundaries of normality is a topic that is highly relevant, because it may show the audience that no
matter how different a thing is, all that it is important is that is good enough for you. Edward
Scissorhands, summing up, is a good film because it has an interior meaning, that is, it makes the
audience think outside the box, and extract a useful moral from the

Column Chromatography Lab
Purpose:
The purpose of this lab is to calculate the percent recovery as well as prepare an adsorption
chromatography column and finally, separate a mixture using chromatography.
Theory:
In this lab we will be using chromatography to separate a mixture. When we hear the chromatography
we think of many different things. Chromatography is referred to as several related techniques to
separate mixtures of compounds, analyze and identify. Although there are different techniques the one
thing that they all have in common is that they have an operation that is two parts. The two parts are
known as mobile phase and stationary phase. In the mobile phase is known as the liquid or gas that the
mixture is placed in. After the sample goes through the mobile phase it is then carried into the
stationary phase which is a solid support that contains one of two things, an adsorbent or a different
liquid. Due to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This technique uses a glass column. In an experiment, the first step of the process begins with the
mixture/sample being added to the eluent or the mobile phase. The eluent is what moves through the
column. Both the mobile and stationary phases intermingle with the compounds. This causes the
compounds to have different attractions to one of the two or both of the phases. This is how we
separate the different compounds in the mixture because they go at different rates. This process is
slightly similar to gel electrophoresis in biology. In the fact that both separate at different speeds. For
gel electrophoresis the smaller fragments move faster than the large ones. In adsorption column
chromatography, the compound that is more attracted to the liquid phase, the mobile phase, will move
faster than the one attracted to the stationary phase. They come off of the column in the

The Tell Tale Eye
It s true about the eyes being the window to the soul. Your face can be etched with worry, and twisted
by ageing, but the eyes tell the true story of who you are Naomie Harris The old proverb the eyes are
the windows to the soul is expanded on by Naomie Harris in a way that exemplarities the true
meaning of this proverb. When looking into a person s eyes it is much easier to perceive what is inside
them. This is identical to how windows work. It is far easier to see what is in the window when
looking directly into it versus looking indirectly in. Similarly, when peering into a window or a person

Vultures are creatures that perch up above everything and wait so that they can prey upon them. The
narrator implies that the old man is waiting and biding his time so that he can prey on him. All the
narrator beliefs about the old man s thoughts are really what the narrator is thinking either about his

this story. Poe wanted to fill every bit of the tale with double or deeper meanings. The confession of
the storyteller is not due to him being racked by guilt. Pritchard affirms this with, The narrator not
only receives pleasure from the act of murder itself, but also from the obsessive ritual that precedes
the murder (Pritchard, p145). The narrator himself is a vulture and preys on others. He does not feel

Students At The University Of Wisconsin Madison
Students often do not take advantage of the opportunities available to them in the wider community
because of a wide variety of engagement and extra curricular opportunities offered on college

Students at the University of Wisconsin Madison can take advantage of the campus urban location to
explore and build connections with the local community, in addition to furthering skills gained from
the classroom.
At college, students are often surrounded by others who are similar to them mostly between ages of 18

make students forget what the real world is like.
You re really missing something if you just come here for school and you don t step off of campus and

It is also important to understand that community extends beyond campus to the entire city, Stephanie

make the best out of their college experience but also contribute and help their communities to better

Dostoyevsky s Crime And Punishment
Dostoyevsky s Crime and Punishment relies heavily on Raskolnikov s motivation for committing the
crime. To the casual reader, the motives are straightforward he wants to find out if he, like Napoleon,
is an extraordinary man; wants to rid society of the pawnbroker, the louse; wants simply to lift himself
from debt with the money he stole. But these explanations do not strike the heart of the matter: there is
a deeper cause. The ultimate reason behind Raskolnikov s violent murder of the pawnbroker stems
from a combination of an oppressive environment of poverty and Raskolnikov s characteristic
arrogance. Good, straightforward thesis
It is almost a given that Raskolnikov was poor, however the extent of this is easily overlooked. From

Walking down the street adjacent to his apartment at the outset of the novel, Raskolnikov s
psychology is swiftly illuminated,
The insufferable stench from the pot houses, which are particularly numerous in that part of the town,
and the drunken men whom he met continually, although it was a working day, completed the
revolting misery of the picture. An expression of the profoundest disgust gleamed for a moment in the
young man s refined face. He was, by the way, exceptionally handsome, above the average in height,

Here, Raskolnikov is disgusted by the surroundings of his home and community he certainly sees
himself above such squalor. Further elevating his opinion of himself are his exceptional good looks,
which surely cause him to develop a sense of superiority over time. Raskolnikov s behavior of
disregarding intentionally his surroundings is also indicative of deep seated egotism and arrogance,
acting as though he is the only object worthy of his own attention. A final factor contributing to
Raskolnikov s superiority complex is his intelligence. In a letter he receives from his mother, it
becomes clear that Raskolnikov is both highly intelligent and well educated, as she states, What a

Real Estate Properties Of Public Records
Property appraisers have many responsibilities including verifying legal descriptions of real estate
properties in public records, inspecting new and existing properties and recording their unique
characteristics. They take pictures of the interior and exterior of properties as well as analyze similar
properties. They then prepare written reports and maintain current data on the property. Appraisers
work in places they are familiar with so they are aware of issues that may affect the property s value.
Appraisers usually value one property at a time and they can often specialize in certain types of real
estate. (Appraisal Careers) Commercial appraisers specialize in working with income producing
property like stores, hotels and office buildings. Residential appraisers focus on appraising personal
property like single family homes and condominiums, appraising properties of one to four units. When

Effects Of Birth Control On American Women s Lives
Effects of the Birth Control Pill on American Women s Lives
Over the centuries, women have tried a number of methods to prevent unwanted pregnancies. Some of
the pregnancy control measures that existed before the invention of the pill included abstinence and
withdrawal. Unfortunately, such methods often failed to prevent unintended pregnancies. As such,
birth control advocates continued researching for effective birth control methods. Americans did not
meet the idea of birth control methods with enthusiasm. In fact, those who advocated the use of birth
control devices experienced challenges, including being jailed.
In the 1950s, birth control pills were introduced in the United States (Windsor, 2002). Over the past
seven decades, the pill has changed the American women s lives in several ways. The pills have
allowed women to delay marriages, invest in their career development, and secure well paid jobs in
areas that were previously dominated by men. The pill has also improved family relationships and
prevented abuse and marriage dissolutions. This paper explores the history of birth control methods in
the US and how the pill became available on a large scale to women. The paper further examines how
the pills has given women the freedom to advance their careers, strengthen the marriage relationships,
and participate in the workforce.

The And Its Effects On The Perception Of The External...
After washing away all prior beliefs of the external world about us, Descartes builds a system of doubt
that forces readers to question if they truly know anything about the external world around us. His
factors building this doubt include the possibility of madness, sensory deception, chance or the
continuous chain of events leading to our present state, omnipotent beings, or the idea that we may be
dreaming. Descartes claims that there is no way to indubitably know the truth of our external
environment, however it is indubitable that there is an internal being or self. Whether it is based on a
personal experience or someone else s, one can agree that all of the factors given could result in
skewed knowledge. Aristotle once said that, our senses can be trusted but they can be easily fooled.
Because our senses can be so easily deceived, trustworthiness is perhaps not the best trait to award it
with. The eyes and mind can always play tricks on you. One often comes by optical illusions in which
one line looks longer than another when they are both the same size, or circles appear to be spinning
when they are actually still, or numerous other kinds of these tests. Our eyes trick us constantly into
believing things to be happening when they are not. For example, young kids claim to see monsters or
ghosts in their rooms at night because their eyes and mind trick them into seeing these creatures. Once

  • 2. Apologetics Definition Apologetics In definition, Apologetics is to argue, or better said, justify your beliefs. Typically, it follows up with religious topics that people, for whatever reason, feel the need to scuffle over what they believe to be right or wrong. As we all know, religion has been the main topic in most fights for eons and has yet to even falter over time. From observations, I ve noticed that individuals tend to get rather heated over the subject, and have even been known to cause harm to one another if so inclined to do so. Personally, I don t believe Apologetics is necessary under most circumstances. If one feels so powerless in their faith to have to fight about it, they probably shouldn t bother having one at all. This comes to the main question ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many undocumented immigrants are growing up in the United States that live in fear of being deported. Legislation has been proposed in the United States to try and protect these young undocumented immigrants and help them get an education by introducing a bipartisan bill called the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act. Though this law helps out those individual students who grew up in the United States by giving them a chance to contribute to our country s well being by pursuing a higher education and providing a clear path for those young immigrants to attain citizenship and certain main advantages; it does not automatically make anyone ... • 4. Ecclesiastes 1-3 Analysis Existence of God Worksheet Ecclesiastes 1 3 Ecclesiastes is a book in the Hebrew Bible (the OT) that falls into the Wisdom literature genre. In it the Teacher (possibly Solomon though this is far from certain and unnecessary for understanding the book) expresses what life is like under the sun (see 1:3). Given the three storied view of the world (heaven, earth, under the earth) that was common during this period, the expression probably refers to life on the earth and, in particular, to life lived without reference to God. As the Teacher contemplates this world, verses 2 11 of chapter one appear to be a depiction of what he finds: as things change, they really just stay the same. Generations pass, but the earth remains. The sun comes up and goes down every day. The winds blow in a continual circuit, returning again and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Teacher pursued the understanding of wisdom and the madness and folly (foolishness) (1:17). The Teacher s conclusions about seeking wisdom and the madness and folly was that when you receive wisdom it comes at a price of sorrow (1:18). Would pursuing this same interest as an attempt to understand the divine order of things be likely to change these conclusions? Why or why not? How different would this be than seeking this interest just for itself? I think that by attempting to understand the divine order of things you still would have the same results of sorrow, the more knowledge, the more grief. Despite what the knowledge is about (For example: God, languages, computers, or books) knowledge is knowledge. With that knowledge comes responsibility. The responsibly of sharing that knowledge and wisdom with others. When comparing this to seeking for your own interest I personally believe that the same standard stands. That when you learn something you should share your knowledge. In light of this how does God s existence provide purpose to this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay on Prohibition in 20th Century America Prohibition in 20th Century America In the early part of the 20th century some people had had enough of liquor and its deleterious effects on people and their behavior. Some believed that alcohol, and drunkenness were the most worrying afflictions that our nation faced. At least on the surface this was what prohibition was about. On the flip side, it seemed that prohibition was about a still dominant, overwhelmingly rural, white Anglo Saxon Protestant establishment, aware that its privileges and natural right to rule were being increasingly threatened by the massive arrival of largely despised (and feared) beer swilling, wine drinking new American immigrants (Behr, 1996). Many of the Americans had descended from Protestant, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many of these believers were fanatical in their beliefs and in the delivery and spread of their message. Little by little the movements gained a stronger and stronger following of those who believed that alcohol and its consumption were rotting away the moral integrity, health, and overall foundation of American society. One of the largest constituents of this group was women. Women became so fixated on this cause that they made it into the first women s mass movement in American history...[and] also the modern world s first large scale, nonviolent protest movement (Behr, 1996). These women used their determination and a strict sense of religious morality to spread their message and to gain a large audience as their efforts became increasingly covered in the increasingly important newspapers. Prohibition was enacted as the 18th amendment to the Constitution. The bill, known as the Volstead Act, after Andrew J. Volstead, a Republican congressman from the state of Minnesota, was introduced on the 27th of May, 1919. After three months of debate the bill was passed by a vote of 255 to 166. On the 5th of September the Senate voted and passed the bill too. It was then made official after a final vote in the House of 321 to 70, and so was made law on October 10th (Behr, 1996). The law made sure that alcohol was not easy to lay hands on. All advertising was banned along with the consumption and production of alcohol itself. Also any equipment ... Without resources or money to rebuild, the impoverished and minorities are forced to figure out their own plan to recover from the natural disaster. Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, Louisiana and caused a myriad of issues with its residents. Some of the problems the impoverished and minorities faced were: evacuating New Orleans, homelessness, rebuilding, and unjust treatment from the government. Most of the city s population suffered some sort of loss whether it was a fatality, loss of property, or a lack of resources or money to rebuild. However, each social class and race did not suffer the same losses; the underprivileged and racial minorities suffered much greater losses than those who had the resources or money to evacuate (Bates 5). Advantages And Disadvantages Of Open Range Vs Factory Farming Factory or Open Range Most people thinks of a farms as a place where people shove as many different kind of livestock in a small area to make the most for the space they ve. This isn t true in most cases of farming, and for the few factories that process to run this way makes the other farms that produces a large amount of livestock looks as if they are using the same technicians. Factory farming and open range farming are two completely different ways of growing and rising livestock. I have raised livestock for 7 years now as well learned everything I know about livestock from a family who have been farming for 6 generations. Factory farms have larger numbers in smaller space when open range is more space per animal two different ways of raising animals yet, neither of these technically wrong way of producing. Reputations have always caused ways of life to look worse then what really happens. Even thought this makes a leaner, healthier hog, the consumers comely believe their isn t enough flavor in the meat without the fat balance. The Sniper Short Story Analysis The Sniper By: Liam O Flaherty The Sniper , the author creates suspense by having an increase in pacing, through the words in the story, decreasing/slowing down is used through words like still, and paused Finally, he creates suspense by having back to back rapid conflicts, The suspense is created by Liam O Flaherty, who is the author of this short story suspense. Throughout this story you re faced with feelings of anticipation, suspense, and you may even appear to be solicitous. Showing empathy, and being held on the edge of your seat throughout each captivating paragraph, is common in this particular story. The first paragraphs you are brought to have a sense of what some view as slow, and/or boring , since it doesn t have much going on right off of the bat, you start off with a suspenseful introduction, by the author giving you what is perceived to be as a gloomy/muggy setting. You are brought to a theme with an increasing pace also included in the first paragraph with a small excerpt of Here and there through the city, machine guns and rifles broke the silence of the night, spasmodically, like dogs barking on lone farms. Republicans and Free States were waging civil war. (O Flaherty 1) Increasing pace is shown and supported throughout this story by the sniper running into suspense and hardships in an orderly way, which creates a feeling/emotion of what is known to be suspense. We are able to see what he sees and feel what he has felt. We enter this psychologically thriller by the authors ability to grab you, and hold you captive in your own mind with his words. Decreasing pace is developed by the mood being slow and gloomy at times. It slowly yet surely leads into conflict over and over. For example Placing a cigarette between his lips, he struck a match, inhaled the smoke hurriedly and put out the light. Almost immediately, a bullet flattened itself against the parapet of the roof. The sniper took another whiff and put out the cigarette. Then he swore softly and crawled away to the left. (O Flaherty 1) Timing in this short story makes this story suspenseful, with the words he uses and where he places them, he keeps his readers drawn in with the lacking of dull moments. You are ... Cultural variations reflect the different ways a society functions and perceive social issues and complex concerns; these variations express a groups unique perspective of the world which tend to influence and shape the individual worldview and behavior of a people belonging to any specific culture/group. Many issues are addressed and presented in various genres varying from drama to fantasy. All these films, however, have a single theme, which is embedded in the background; an attentive viewer may be able to observe it. The issue is the challenge of the Native Americans to adjust to the modern post industrial world culturally and economically, all the while remaining loyal to and preserving their traditions. This single issue encompasses all other issues that may be perceived in the films. In fact, all other contemporary issues, while they may be rooted in the distant past, in fact are stemming from this lack of balance between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead of portraying objective, factual reality, it is biased toward the plight of the Navajo Natives, and designed to invoke sympathy for the Navajo s plight, and righteous indignation within the audience against the corrupt, powerful corporate energy and mining business, and their cronies in Washington D.C. Similarly to popular films, the movie appeals to the Categorical Imperative, an internal sense of justice within the audience. The film narrates a brief history of the Navajo people, and the history of consistent violation of treaties signed between the Navajo and the U.S government, on the part of the government. In the center of the conflict lies the immense abundance of the natural resources that are located on the Navajo land, and the big corporate and governmental machinations, designed to exploit these resources at all costs. These machinations resulted in forceful removal of the Navajo people from their land, and permanently altered their way of life. The film is filled with dramatic scenes of powerful machinery destroying Navajo s sacred sites, and their very lives, in the name of the corporate financial prosperity. These dramatic frames are accompanied by the angelic voice of Laura Nyro and her song Broken Rainbow. Opposite of the cold, steel machinery, the Navajo s humble, pastoral and traditional ... • 14. Living As A Lesbian, And August Jordan s A New Politics... The articles that stood out the most to me were Cheryl Clarke s Living As a Lesbian and June Jordan s A New Politics of Sexuality . These articles stood out, because while given a similar topic (lesbians) they both possessed very different, yet similar arguments. I found this interesting because it is a prime example of societies different views on controversial topics. Cheryl and June s articles contain many differences, similarities and information to be reflected on. Cheryl s main arguments are that everyone who loves women (whether its romantically, sexually, platonically, etc.) is a feminist and lesbians are all part of a rebellion. She states, No matter how a woman lives out her lesbianism she has rebelled against becoming the slave master s concubine, viz., the male dependent female, the female heterosexual. This gives evidence towards her argument that lesbians, regardless their intentions are resisting from the constructs that society wants them to adhere to. June would disagree with this statement, arguing that lesbians aren t solely out to rebel but are just pursuing their lives freely. Cheryl also points out that there is no one sort of lesbian and that whether you consider yourself a full blown lesbian or bisexual it doesn t change the fact that you are resisting against the heterosexual society. This being true, Cheryl Clarke also disagrees with the idea of bisexuality; whereas June Jordan identifies as bisexual. Following along with this Cheryl ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ebola hemorrhagic fever (Ebola HF) is a severe, often fatal disease in humans and nonhuman primates (monkeys, gorillas, and chimpanzees) that has appeared sporadically since its initial recognition in 1976. The disease is caused by infection with Ebola virus, named after a river in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire) in Africa, where it was first recognized. The virus is one of two members of a family of RNA viruses called the Filoviridae. There are five identified subtypes of Ebola virus. Four of the five have caused disease in humans: Ebola Zaire, Ebola Sudan, Ebola Ivory Coast and Ebola Bundibugyo. The fifth, Ebola Reston, has caused disease in nonhuman primates, but not in humans. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This consists of balancing the patient s fluids and electrolytes, maintaining their oxygen status and blood pressure, and treating them for any complicating infections. How is Ebola hemorrhagic fever prevented? The prevention of Ebola HF in Africa presents many challenges. Because the identity and location of the natural reservoir of Ebola virus are unknown, there are few established primary prevention measures. If cases of the disease do appear, current social and economic conditions often favor the spread of an epidemic within health care facilities. Therefore, health care providers must be able to recognize a case of Ebola HF should one appear. They must also have the capability to perform diagnostic tests and be ready to employ practical viral hemorrhagic fever isolation precautions, or barrier nursing techniques. These techniques include the wearing of protective clothing, such as masks, gloves, gowns, and goggles; the use of infection control measures, including complete equipment sterilization; and the isolation of Ebola HF patients from contact with unprotected ... • 20. Summary Of Joe Kanty s Spunk Throughout the short story Spunk , Joe Kanty, (the husband of Lena Kanty) plays a certain role that deals a lot with disrespect, miscommunication, and the morals of specific boundaries that need to be set when dealing with the rights and wrong doings of your spouse. Joe is the type of character that sort of stays in his shell, meaning that he doesn t necessarily express his feelings as much as he might want to. He is very scrawny and quiet, and is afraid to stick up for himself. As if he allows people to run over him because he s too shy or too trapped in himself to actually speak up about what s on his mind or bothering him the most. Joe would be the type to probably let someone walk all over him. He could say something to other characters in the story, and then as the reader, you might think to yourself he doesn t seem too sure , or he might not actually mean what he s saying, he s just trying to talk big in front of his friends, because in reality, he seems a little unsure of how he really wants to address his situation. With this being said, Joe could be gloomy when it comes down to the fact of him seeing his wife and knowing that everyone else is seeing his wife with another man. The way he goes about addressing the fact though is harsh and he could ve handled the situation a little better than what he did. • 35. Students At The University Of Wisconsin Madison Students often do not take advantage of the opportunities available to them in the wider community because of a wide variety of engagement and extra curricular opportunities offered on college campuses. Students at the University of Wisconsin Madison can take advantage of the campus urban location to explore and build connections with the local community, in addition to furthering skills gained from the classroom. At college, students are often surrounded by others who are similar to them mostly between ages of 18 and 22, pursuing a college education and beyond. The homogeneity within the campus bubble can make students forget what the real world is like. You re really missing something if you just come here for school and you don t step off of campus and explore living in a brand new place on your own, Ashley Viager, Assistant Director of Chadbourne Residential College, said. It is also important to understand that community extends beyond campus to the entire city, Stephanie Harrill, Badger Volunteers director, said. This is especially beneficial during a time of growth and development at a higher education institution. This kind of awareness allows for students to not only make the best out of their college experience but also contribute and help their communities to better the environment around them. Community engagement also gives students the opportunity to apply theoretical concepts into the real world to consolidate knowledge in a way that classroom ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Dostoyevsky s Crime And Punishment Dostoyevsky s Crime and Punishment relies heavily on Raskolnikov s motivation for committing the crime. To the casual reader, the motives are straightforward he wants to find out if he, like Napoleon, is an extraordinary man; wants to rid society of the pawnbroker, the louse; wants simply to lift himself from debt with the money he stole. But these explanations do not strike the heart of the matter: there is a deeper cause. The ultimate reason behind Raskolnikov s violent murder of the pawnbroker stems from a combination of an oppressive environment of poverty and Raskolnikov s characteristic arrogance. Good, straightforward thesis It is almost a given that Raskolnikov was poor, however the extent of this is easily overlooked. From just ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An expression of the profoundest disgust gleamed for a moment in the young man s refined face. (3). Here, Raskolnikov is disgusted by the surroundings of his home and community he certainly sees himself above such squalor. Further elevating his opinion of himself are his exceptional good looks, which surely cause him to develop a sense of superiority over time. Raskolnikov s behavior of disregarding intentionally his surroundings is also indicative of deep seated egotism and arrogance, acting as though he is the only object worthy of his own attention. A final factor contributing to Raskolnikov s superiority complex is his intelligence. In a letter he receives from his mother, it becomes clear that Raskolnikov is both highly intelligent and well educated, as she states, What a grief it was to me when I heard that you had given up the university some months ago, ... Upon Sam and Dean s arrival in the town, the audience is introduced to a scene reminiscent of X Files, where local witnesses and townspeople recount their alien abductions and their experiences. This similarity is yet another way in which Supernatural melds traditional Celtic folklore/fairylore with more contemporary narratives, thereby creating new narratives and lore about fairies that will be understood by contemporary and future generations. The leprechaun s characteristics are very human, which is a common feature of fairies: they can be either a few feet tall and look relatively like humans or appear as normal humans (see plate 3.). Dean is attacked by a fairy whilst in jail for attacking a human suffering from dwarfism. Upon my first viewing of the episode, it was assumed that the attacker was a fairy solely based on the fact that only Dean was able to see him. It was not until after studying fairy characteristics in the course did I realise the significance of the red cap on the man s head Both the colour red and red clothing being identifiers of fairies. • 42. The And Its Effects On The Perception Of The External... After washing away all prior beliefs of the external world about us, Descartes builds a system of doubt that forces readers to question if they truly know anything about the external world around us. His factors building this doubt include the possibility of madness, sensory deception, chance or the continuous chain of events leading to our present state, omnipotent beings, or the idea that we may be dreaming. Descartes claims that there is no way to indubitably know the truth of our external environment, however it is indubitable that there is an internal being or self. Whether it is based on a personal experience or someone else s, one can agree that all of the factors given could result in skewed knowledge. Aristotle once said that, our senses can be trusted but they can be easily fooled. Because our senses can be so easily deceived, trustworthiness is perhaps not the best trait to award it with. The eyes and mind can always play tricks on you. One often comes by optical illusions in which one line looks longer than another when they are both the same size, or circles appear to be spinning when they are actually still, or numerous other kinds of these tests. Our eyes trick us constantly into believing things to be happening when they are not. For example, young kids claim to see monsters or ghosts in their rooms at night because their eyes and mind trick them into seeing these creatures.
