Social Forces in to Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
Everyone in the world has their own identity; have you ever thought about what your identity is?
Identity plays a big role in the world especially in America where not all identities are good. People
might identify a wealthy person as snotty rich or a poor person as defective or maybe someone calls a
man a woman when they re really a man. Or maybe you call someone a terrorist just because they are
middle eastern. The list goes on and on and thats why social forces influence identities and can
become dangerous. Gender, race, and social class are all forms of social forces. Race is everywhere in
the world. But people need to understand that race isn t color. Anyone can have color; people can be a
Hispanic and have very dark skin and still be referred to as a black person. Race is culture and culture
is everywhere. It disgusting how we can t get along with each other and we re in the 21st century. In
the race forum at John Hersey High school (Janu, Bruce) it was said that there s still a lot of racism
going on in the world to this date. He gave the example of many lynchings in Texas. In the book To
Kill A Mockingbird Scouts dad is called a nigger lover (Lee Chapter 9) and the only reason he is
called a nigger lover is because he is a lawyer and he helps anyone out when they are in trouble.
Another example in the To Any Would Be Terrorists (Nye n.p) article says that when the word terrorist
is said, people automatically think its referring to the middle east or

The Life of Saint Anthony
The life of Saint Anthony was vividly pictured in the narration of his life by no other person than St.
Athanasius. In St. Athanasius description of St. Anthony, he explored all areas where St. Anthony was
modeled as a saint. In light of this, the thesis for this essay states that classical genres to which St.
Athanasius modelled the Life of St. Anthony is autobiography/biography, mythology and adventures.
Throughout the description of St. Anthony s life, he conformed himself to these models. To this end,
this essay explores ways in which St. Anthony s life conformed to these models. One of the first ways
St. Anthony s life conformed to St. Athanasius model was his first step into asceticism (Robert 26).
Asceticism was the first major decision St. Anthony took after the death of his parents. The death of
his parents left him with the burden of caring for his sister and taking care of the vast property that
belonged to the family.
However, while on his way to church, he was meditating a bible verse but on stepping into the church,
he was baffled when he heard the Gospel being read instructing whoever wants to serve God to go and
sell of his property and distribute the profits from the sale to the poor. He felt that the verse of the
Gospel was meant for him so he did exactly as he was instructed (Robert 26). After selling off the
property, he distributed the proceeds amongst the poor. St. Anthony went to church again and after
listening to the Gospel again, he said he

The Importance Of Freedom In Journalism And The Freedom Of...
As Americans, we are taught from childhood to internalize the importance of freedom and to sing the
praises of the land of the free. Political rallies, presidential speeches, and Internet forums light up day
after day with fierce debates over freedom of speech or religion or the right to bear arms, but one
freedom most of us fail to prioritize as we should is one unique to developed countries yet absolutely
crucial of a true democracy: freedom of the press.
Journalists expose government corruption, systemic and societal injustices, business malpractices,
human rights violations, and more truths that government and businesses would rather hide. Despite
efforts to keep certain acts under wraps, it is imperative that citizens understand all motives and
beliefs of those in power in order to be fully informed when fulfilling their civic duties of voting and
partaking in political discourse. That is the media s job, yet we are entering an era where popular
opinion of the media is ever declining and leaders encourage silencing the free press that brings to
light these pivotal issues. In my future, I hope to use a Bachelor s or Master s degrees in Journalism
and Political Science to reestablish the currently wavering honesty and integrity in some areas of
journalism that contribute to dangerous anti media ideas. We need to protect our democracy by
demanding honesty and transparency in government and big business, but this goal can never be
achieved if our society responds to

Living In A Fatherless Family
We are living in a fatherless generation. It is common knowledge that the majority of those who grow
up in single parent homes in the U.S. are raised by the mothers roughly 80% and roughly 20% are
raised by the fathers (Census Bureau, 2009). With an estimated 17 million children fatherless in the
US (Census Bureau, 2009), some say it s a psychological epidemic. For this paper, fatherless will be
defined as an absentee father who has not taken an intentional role by being physically, and/or
emotionally, mentally present in their child/ren s life. This may include but not limited to: death,
divorce, incarceration, pure abandonment, and/or other personal reasons.
While it is indeed true that not all who grow up without a father have the issues described below, the
following studies and statistics do show the effects and risk factors when a family structure lacks a
father. It is also true that those who lack a father can become very successful and turn into responsible
and healthy individuals. While some may debate the case for nature/nurture in fatherless families, we
will talk a look at specific studies and statistics that show the correlation between fatherless families
and education levels, incarceration rates, and social, mental, and emotional issues.
From even before birth, fathers have a vital role in their child/ren s life. A study of almost 1.4 million
infants in Florida assessed how a lack of father involvement impacted infant mortality (Journal of

How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents
How cultural transitioning affected the Garcia Family
Cultural shock is a common feeling a person experiences when transitioning into a completely
different environment and living situation. Throughout the world, immigrants experience many
difficulties when assimilating into a new culture.
The novel How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents, by Julia Alvarez, illustrates these challenges.
Throughout the novel, we see how different aspects of culture shock impact the Garcia family. In this
essay I will discuss how particular events change each family member s Dominican cultural values
and identity.
As the family became immersed with the traditions of contemporary American culture, they began to
forge conflicting identities and values, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result of these American problems the mother decides to move the family into boarding schools
in order to avoid these cultural conflicts.
Discrimination is a common problem foreign students face when initially transitioning into a foreign
countries school. Several aspects of educational institutions in America are much different from those
in the Dominican, and these differences create tension and conflict among foreign students and native
peers.
Several of the events that the Garcia girls experienced are common negative aspects of cultural
integration. Harassment and discrimination are common forms of cultural conflicts that occur between
two opposing cultures. Cultural values that have become forged into a person s life usually remain
with them for long periods of time. In this case, the Garcia girls were unable to completely adjust their
perspectives of Dominican values to accommodate to their Americanized living situation. They held
on to their traditional Dominican values, which conflicted with American culture. As a result, they
experienced harassment and discrimination.
The relationship between Yolanda and Rudy exemplified a negative aspect of cultural conflict.
Because this novel took place during the sexual revolution, sex was a prominent aspect of American
values. Rudy embraced the ideology that sex should be an enjoyable event that should not be taken
seriously. He continuously incorporated vulgar terminology in his

Americans DID Land on the Moon
In the later days of May in 1961, President John F. Kennedy announced before a special joint session
of Congress, his ambitious goal of sending a human to the moon before the end of the decade.
However, this enormous goal, that would appear to be a catalyst for domestic pride, has as many ties
to the Cold War, as it does to the moon itself. Regardless of this, when Apollo 11 landed on the moon
in July of 1969, the entire country rejoiced. While some doubted the motives of Kennedy s goal, a
bigger conspiracy may have lay just beneath the surface; a conspiracy that could have shaken the
entire country and enraged the world. Many well known scientists and government officials claim that
the United States of America never actually landed a man on the moon, and that the government faked
the entire event for both political and financial gain. Although much compelling evidence and
contradictions have been brought to light by the conspiracists, NASA has successfully responded to all
of these in a robust and educated manor, that fully enforces the fact that the United States of America
did in fact land a man on the moon. The United States has never been a country that shies away from a
political advantage, and that is exactly one of the many alleged motives for them to fake a moon
landing. In the height of the Cold War tensions could not have been higher between the two inter
nation superpowers: the USA, and the USSR. As seen in the so called Miracle on Ice and the World

Contradiction Between Morals in Sophocles Antigone Essay
Antigone: Contradiction Between Morals
In Ancient Greece, new ideals surfaced as answers to life s complicated questions. These new beliefs
were centered on the expanding field of science. Man was focused on more than the Gods or heavenly
concerns. A government that was ruled by the people was suggested as opposed to a monarchy that
had existed for many years. Freedom of religion was encouraged in city states. These new ideals,
though good in intentions, often conflicted with each other creating complex moral dilemmas. Such
was the case in Antigone, a play written by Sophocles during this era of change. In the play, Antigone
and Creon battle a philosophical war exemplifying the conflict existing in the Greek ideals. ... Show

An important ideal in Ancient Greece was the belief that the government was to have no control in
matters concerning religious beliefs. In Antigone s eyes, Creon betrayed that ideal by not allowing her
to properly bury her brother, Polynices. She believed that the burial was a religious ceremony, and
Creon did not have the power to deny Polynices that right.
Antigone s strong beliefs eventually led her to her death by the hand of Creon. Never, though, did she
stop defending what she thought was right. As Creon ordered her to her death, Antigone exclaimed, I
go, his prisoner, because I honored those things in which honor truly belongs (Sophocles page #). She
is directly humiliating Creon by calling his opinions and decisions weak and unjust. She also
emphasizes his prisoner, which tells us that Creon s decision to capture Antigone was his own, and
was not backed up by the majority of the people. She feels that Creon is abusing his power as king and
dealing with her task to a personal level.
Creon s actions are guided by the ideal that states man is the measure of all things. The chorus
emphasizes this point during the play by stating that There is nothing beyond (man s) power
(Sophocles page #). Creon believes that the good of man comes before the gods. Setting the example
using Polynices body left unburied is a symbol of Creon s belief. No man who is his country s enemy
shall call himself my friend (Sophocles page #).

Net Neutrality Policy Essay
the August of 2005, the F.C.C. adopted a very important policy statement regarding net neutrality. This
policy statement protects several things that are essential to anyone who frequently uses the Internet. It
gives consumers the freedom to access any content and to use any application within the law. In early
December, 2017, the F.C.C. voted to repeal it. However, just over half of the US states have made
attempts to pass legislation that reinforces net neutrality. Net Neutrality protects American internet
freedom , ensuring that the people can make full use of the internet and prevents Internet Service
Providers from having too much control. The rules set in place by the F.C.C. in 2005 protect the rights

Berners Lee questions whether America [wants] a web where cable companies determine winners and

cable companies would be able to determine which creative ideas succeed (Berners Lee 2). This
opposes the freedom that American citizens strive for. It puts a limits the equal opportunity that so
Americans find so important. Furthermore, the change would allow internet service providers to
throttle some online traffic and allow companies to pay extra for faster delivery of their content
(Martinez Hoisington). Without net neutrality, internet service providers would be able to smother
small or upcoming businesses by limiting their audience. However, the impact of the repeal of net
neutrality does not stop here. The repeal of net neutrality also eliminates several other consumer
protections, such as a requirement that ISPs be more transparent with customers about hidden fees and
the consequences of exceeding data caps (Brodkin 1). Repealing net neutrality would deregulate

Motorcycle-Car Collisions Research Paper
Motorcycles, which are a small subset of all motor vehicles, are greatly overrepresented in fatal motor
vehicle accidents. In the United States, the death rate per registered motorcycle (59 per 100,000) is
approximately three times the death rate per registered passenger car (17 per 100,000). 77 Mortality
rates calculated per vehicle, however, does not take into account the substantially lower mileage
travelled by motorcyclists. Per mile travelled, the mortality rate for motorcycles is estimated to be 22
times higher than the comparable death rate for passenger cars.77 Another study also estimated the
death rate for motorcycle riders of about 35 per 100 million miles of travel compared with an overall
vehicle death rate of 2.57 per 100 million ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To evaluate the possibility that motorcycle car collisions may occur at higher speeds than car car
collisions, researchers assessed a sample of 109 motorcycle car head on collisions (that is, the impact
speed was the same for the car and the motorcycle) from the same dataset. They found that the
motorcyclists involved were 95.4% likely to be injured while the car drivers were 0.9% more likely to
be injured. The much higher injury rate confirmed that motorcyclists are more physically vulnerable
than those drivers in cars. Overall, the casualty rate (all injury types) is 556 per 100 million vehicle
kilometre for two wheeled motor vehicle, compared to 50 for car users in Britain 2002.80
Overcrowded and unsafe modes of public transport contribute to road traffic injuries and death,
particularly in low income and middle income countries. Choice of transport mode is frequently
related to socio economic status, with those who can afford it avoiding these unregulated and
relatively less safe vehicles. A study in Kenya found that buses and matatus (privately owned mini
buses) are the vehicles most frequently involved in fatal crashes and that passengers in these vehicles

Analyzing The Neighborhoods Of The Future
What do you think the future will be like and what do you see? Your ideas might match up with other
people; other people have wondered what will change, and how different it will be in the future.
Neighborhoods of the future will be new, safer, improved, and a better place for all of humanity.
A lot of things in the future will be improved, such as: Agricultural buildings, like barns and chicken
coops; commercial buildings, like gas stations, banks, warehouses; residential buildings, like
apartments, nursing homes; etc. I happen to believe that prices will be cheaper in the future, helping
poor and middle class people; as well as making everyone relieved and not worried about running out
of money. The direction of prices today are sky high; the average gas prices of today are $2.566. If
prices keep rising, then it might become harder to advertise and get people to buy things because no
one wants to buy something that s way overprised, and where will we be then? To fix this issue, we ll
decrease the prices in the future. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Gymnastics Is A Competitive Sport
According to Oxford Dictionaries, the formal definition of gymnastics is
Exercises developing or displaying physical agility and coordination. The modern sport of gymnastics
typically involves exercises on uneven bars, balance beam, floor, and vaulting horse for women, and
horizontal and parallel bars, rings, floor, and pommel horse for men.
Gymnastics is a competitive sport in which gymnasts perform acrobatic feats such as leaps, flips,
turns, handstands and choreographed routines. These acrobatics are performed on a piece of apparatus
such as a balance beam, horizontal bars, parallel bars, floor, uneven bars, vault horse and horse with

compete both individually and as a team in six apparatuses: Floor, Pommel Horse, Rings, Vault,

performed by Male gymnasts.
Rhythmic gymnastics:
Rhythmic gymnastics is currently exclusive to women in the Olympic Games. Women compete both
individually and as a team using five different approaches including: Rope, Hoop, ball, Clubs and
Ribbon. These gymnasts often display incredible flexibility, coordination and grace.
Trampoline
Trampoline is only a very recent division of gymnastics to be added in the Olympic Games in 2000.
Both men and women are allowed to participate in the division. The routines and stunts performed on
the Trampoline use a double mini trampoline and in a synchronised event where 2 athletes perform at
the same time on 2 different trampolines. The trampoline is significantly more light and bouncy than a
standard gymnasts floor used in artistic gymnastics so the gymnasts may perform gravity defying
flips.
Power tumbling
Power tumbling is performed on a spring runway that is far more bouncier than a standard artistic
gymnastics floor which allows the gymnasts to perform complicated and difficult tricks with success.
Power tumbling has not yet been recognised as an Olympic event. Although, it is competed by

In the thirty years after the War of 1812, the United States gradually and painstakingly developed its
army from a nascent confederation of independent state militiamen, volunteers, and a
disproportionately smaller group of regular soldiers into a corporate body of professionals with

Correspondently, Martin Dugard addressed this theme in his less scholarly narrative, The Training
Ground: Grant, Lee, Sherman, and Davis in the Mexican War, 1846 1848 (2009).[footnoteRef:6]
Similar to Alfred H. Bill s Rehearsal for Conflict: The War with Mexico, 1846 1848 (1969),
Dougherty and Dugard suggested that military officers of the U.S. Civil War that cut their teeth in the
Mexican American War. While this correlation is well demonstrated, this treatment is particular useful
when examining the Second Seminole War in relation to the development of the Regular Army in the
19th century. The Second Seminole War transcended the other Indian Wars in the antebellum period in
scale, duration, and complexity. Moreover, it was the testing ground for the internal developments and
regulations of the United States Regular Army and its involvement beyond its borders. Historians
recognize the Mexican American War as a proving ground for the Regular Army on the eve of the U.S.
Civil War a prologue of sorts but overlook the significance of the Second Seminole War on the Army s
ascension. The regulations and structure developed by the Quartermaster Department during the post
War of 1812 reforms were tested during the Second Seminole War, which further guided the
development of strategies relating to supplying the United States Army during the Mexican American
War. An exploration into the correlation of the experiences of Quartermaster Department during in the
Second Seminole War and Mexican American War remains uncharted territory and is overdue for

Libertarianism And Anti-Landmines
Motorolla, a multinational telecommunication company was involved in selling electronic parts to
mine manufacturers, indirectly contributing to the deaths caused by anti personnel landmines. Back in
January 1996, the news broadcasting Motorola s semiconductor chip being found in a Chinese made
landmine in Cambodia spurred public debate over the company s ethical code of conduct (HRW,
1997). Anti personnel mines are explosive weapons built to harm and kill enemies, they are placed just

the landmines being planted on the homes of these people significantly prevents them from living a

Biography Of Photographer Art Rogers
In 1980, photographer Art Rogers was commissioned to picture Jim Scanlon s eight new German
Shepherds. Through creative thought and technical works, he photographed Scanlon, his wife, and
their dogs into the photograph Puppies. He soon licensed the image and sold it to be available as prints
and notecards. During Jeff Koons visit in Europe, he bought a Puppies notecard and gave it to Italian
artisans in the Demetz Studio to produce four copies of it as sculptures called String of Puppies. The
sculptures were placed in the 1988 Banality Show exhibition at the Sonnabend Gallery. Plaintiff
photographer Art Rogers claimed that defendant Jeff Koons copyrighted his photograph Puppies into

The Carnal Prayer Mat by Yu Li
Vesperus masculine beauty is a central theme in Li Yu s moral comedy, The Carnal Prayer Mat. What s
more, his life trajectory parallels non Mahayana Indic accounts of Siddhartha s path to enlightenment,
particularly on the emphasis placed on descriptions of both men s physical perfection and their
subsequent sexual appetite and prowess. Both Vesperus and Siddhartha s masculine beauty propels
them forward on their life paths, positioning them in the simultaneously instructive and destructive
feminine sphere of the inner quarter. The wealth of sexual experiences gives both men the necessary
insight for their critical realization of the superficiality and emptiness of a life guided by carnal desires
and sexual pursuits of women. As a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What s more, these gifts of beauty and intelligence are described as Heavenly endowed. When first
meeting Vesperus, Lone Peak muses, What a fine intelligence the man has! But the Creator is at fault
for giving him this physical form. Why match a heart that was meant for the study of Buddha with a
face that will lead to damnable deeds? (Yu 21). This sentiment of beauty as a cosmic gift from higher
beings is echoed in Vesperus narcissistic self reflection when deciding whether to take a life path of
asceticism, filial piety, or sexual debauchery: Since Heaven has given birth to someone like me, it
must also have given birth to a girl fit to be my mate....That is why at twenty I am still unmarried I
want to do full justice to my genius and my looks (Yu 25).
Vesperus wish to do justice to his intellectual brilliance and looks speaks to the degree to which
masculine beauty is an important catalyst of sexual desire and subsequent acts of seduction and moral
transgression. Lone Peak describes Buddha, the Lord of Heaven, as a doting and overly indulgent
parent who has blundered in giving a favored child, Vesperus, too many blessings:
By the time the boy grows up, he is convinced that his body and nature were given to him by Heaven
and Earth and nurtured by his father and mother so that no harm will ever befall him, and he does any
wicked thing that enters his head. Only

Summary Of The Wealth Of Nations By Adam Smith
In the passage given, Adam Smith examines the different methods that can increase the production of
land and labour. He discusses that production can be raised by using the methods of, division of labour
and capital accumulation. Smith also provides evidence throughout The Wealth of Nations, proving
that his method of labour division is the best way to develop the economy. The key behind Smith s
writing is to prove how division of labour will improve economic progress.
Initially, Smith proposes the idea of division of labour in the workplace. Division of labour is the
separation of tasks to its rawest form, broken into specializations. He believes that this is the key to
increase productivity and used the pin factory example to prove it. ... Show more content on

This allows for employees to work more efficiently since it helps them complete the task with ease.
Along with the growth model, Smith attempts to prove that a market system is self regulating. He
explains how the first step to a self regulating system is self interest. As humans, we thrive off of
profit or any method of material gain from goods and services. This self interest is what initiates the
system. The presence of competition keeps any one business from dominating the market. When there
are multiple sellers of a good or service, consumers will often purchase the one that they can get at a
more affordable price. This keeps competitors from raising their prices to gain a higher profit, since
the consumer most often opts for the lowest priced item. The last factor to the self regulating system
states that, changing desires of society lead producers to increase production of wanted goods and to
diminish the production of goods that are no longer as highly desired (Heilbroner 50). Therefore,
businesses must keep advancing their products in order to maintain relevance in the market. Society
has expectations that business must achieve, hence they must have an ongoing development in their
goods and service that adjust to the needs of the consumer. If they fail to do so, the product becomes
obsolete, which causes businesses to shut down. Smith s theories about the economy are based on the
assumption that all humans follow the rule of natural

Analysis Of Judith Butler s Performance Acts And Gender...
Judith Butler s article on Performance Acts and Gender Constitution: An Essay in Phenomenology and
Feminist Theory, denotes that gender identity represents a performative accomplishment induced by
social taboo and sanction (Butler 520). Even though Butler s theory on gender performativity has
played an influential role in cultural studies and feminist theory, certain areas of philosophy provide
significant insight into critical social theory. From the perspective of critical legal thinkers, Butler s
idea of performativity is linked with her views on gender and plays an important role in legality as
well as politics. Critical theory in gender performativity presents a social theory to critique and change
the society as opposed to the traditional theory. Similarly, critical theory has the objective to explore
beyond the surface of social life to unveil the assumptions that limit a proper understanding of how the
world functions. The concept of gender performativity instigated by Butler s book, Gender Trouble,
starts by reflecting on the female identity (Fagot 3). In other words, Butler criticizes the critical
approaches to feminism that influence the idea of identity politics and the notion of female identity.
Similarly, the various approaches seem to ignore the idea that all the various identities come from the
effects of repressive regimes and authority as well as the issues raised by the feminists. The concept of
gender performativity has a social and cultural obligation

they use a simile which is just perfect. Then on the second one, then they use many, many metaphors
which are ok, but they rhyme a little which is better for the reader and it is longer and so they make it
more interesting. They are very interesting, and they make you want to just get up and go outside. So
you can feel what they are talking about so should right now just get off the couch and go outside. Run

You Are What You Eat Food has evolved from so much more than a source of nutrition in today s

a scene where two men, Vincent and Jules, sit in a car having small talk about food in Europe. Parts of
their conversation, however, contain some very resonant discussions of food, place, and identity.

Today, however, it has become so much more. According to a research paper written by Martin
Lindstrom, Branding is all about building emotional ties between consumer and product. (pg. 85)
Emotional connections are made with the synergy of all five senses, and such those brands that are
communicating from a multi sensory brand platform have the greatest likelihood of forming emotional
connections between consumers and their product. (pg. 84); Food and Beverage companies exploit
this fact to sell their products. Consider the Kellogg s breakfast cereal that goes snap, crackle, and
pop: Rice Crispies. Researchers at a specialized Danish laboratories worked to create the particular
sound and feel of the crunch was identifiably Kellogg s. (pg. 85). The crunch, smell, and taste, of the
cereal is accompanied by the tactile feel in your mouth pairing all five senses into one bite. Without
the simultaneous stimulation of multiple sensory receptors, however, the cereal would not be as
memorable. Take watching a scary movie for example. Visuals paired with audio make for a very
scary movie, but if you turn the audio off, suddenly the movie isn t so scary anymore. What we have
learned from Kellogg s is that their success lies in mastering the synergy of all five senses. Food can
stimulate all five senses at the same time to bring back past memories. In Carlos Eire starts his book

Yus Tree Symbolism
The symbolism of the Christmas tree aka the Yule tree , has been around for many centuries. Many
can relate to being a kid and decorating the Christmas tree at home. Those kind of memories are
priceless. But would you believe, the tradition was viewed as a pagan before it became a Christmas
tradition.
The origins of the Christmas tree actually can be attributed to ancient people such as the Egyptians
and early Romans. The tree goes back to Prophet Jeremiah in the Old Testament, (Jeremiah 10:2 4),
but it was viewed as a pagan practice during this time. The ancient Egyptians, Hebrews and Chinese
used evergreen trees, wreaths, and garlands to show symbolism of eternal life.
The traditions were considered heathen and pagan symbols by some like William Bradford. In 1659

How Social Media And The Internet Effect Language
How Social Media and the Internet effect Language
Did you know that the size of a dictionary is one of the deciding factors on if a word should be added
into it? Adding words into an official dictionary such as Webster s is a multistep process. The word
must first be found within the same context across multiple texts. After a word is chosen by that
process it is turned into a citation. According the Merriam Webster s dictionary website; this citation
process started in the 1800 s. There are now 15.7 million citation files stored in a searchable database

different speech patterns. Society uses language as one way to distinguish which people belong to
what groups. With the internet as popular as it is today, it was only a matter of time before different
sites developed different dialects. All websites with a chat feature have dialects specific to them. This
is most commonly found on social media. Popular websites like Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr and
Twitter are easiest to find examples of this. Looking at a young person on Facebook and comparing
their speech patterns to those of someone not much older; their online speech patterns differ greatly.
When profiles of the same age group are compared, it becomes obvious who s who. The distinction
grows as the user gets older. A similar formula applies to Instagram Twitter and Tumblr, although it is
more difficult to spot. A younger person will post silly things and use a plethora of emoticons.
Whereas someone older would post more serious images with serious captions. Both age groups tend
to use an excessive amount of hashtags that relate to the media that they posted. For example, a
younger person would post a picture of their favorite character or pop star and tag it with the show that

In today s world, vengeance is still in existence, bubbling below our calm facade, waiting for the

well being. Orestes feigned death cleared up any misconceptions readers might have had as to what
Clytmaenestra s true sentiments were, and gives more definition unto the rationale behind Electra and
Orestes conduct.
In Frankenstein, the Dionysian principle is found twice. It exists for the monster and for Victor in an
opposing manner. For the monster, it is a little more complicated to uncover due to its backwards
pattern and the strange relationships. Victor s monster is left alone to fend for himself and discovers
that he is hideous and grotesquely frightening to all human beings he comes in contact with. With the
basis of these experiences, he deems himself unworthy of love and curses his creator for bringing him
into such a cruel world. He is determined to get even with Victor and kills his younger brother, and
when Victor refuses to create a monster companion, the monster destroys more of Victor s beloved.
Victor, as the monster s creator, is in essence, his mother, making Victor s family the monster s family
as well. The monster forsakes these family members who were ignorant of his existence. Had they

Fortunately, gastric emptying resumes and symptoms improve when food intake and eating schedules
normalize. Symptoms of gastroparesis include bloating, nausea, and early fullness while eating meals,
heartburn, and epigastric pain. The most common symptom is early satiety, or the sensation of feeling
full shortly after starting a meal. Nausea and vomiting are also common. A person with gastroparesis
may vomit undigested food many hours after their last meal. Weight loss can occur due to poor
absorption of nutrients, or taking in too few calories.
The diagnosis of gastroparesis starts with the medical history where the physician may suspect the
diagnosis based on the symptoms. A gastric or stomach emptying test is presently the best method of
making the diagnosis. In this test, a food, such as scrambled eggs, is labeled with a marker, which can
be seen by a scanner. Following ingestion, the scanner tracks the time it takes for the food to leave the
stomach. In general, half the stomach contents should leave within about 90 minutes. A final test is the
electrogastrogram (EGG). This test, like the EKG on the heart, measures the electrical waves that
normally sweep over the stomach and precede each contraction.
Diet is one of the foundations of treatment for those who suffer from gastroparesis. Some foods are
more difficult than others for the stomach to digest. Fatty foods take a longer time to digest, so do
foods that

The Boundary Of The Yakama Nation Reservation
Problems
The boundary of the Yakama Nation Reservation is considered home to different culturally diverse
populations. Parenting skills and teaching can vary dramatically from each of those unique
households. The diverse populations come with varying levels of what is considered appropriate child
rearing practices. Child abuse intakes are increasing due to families from Mexico coming here to the
US and the standards are different (Ruiz, 2015). Pilar Ruiz is a Social Worker at Children s
Administration assigned to the Child Protective Services. Families migrate to the area and they carry
different perspectives on parenting and may not understand the expectations of Washington State and
Child Abuse Laws. It is not only migrant families that need additional support. Families that have
been here for many years have traditional practices that may cross the line when it comes to child
abuse and neglect. These families that are located in this area need the additional support of increasing
family bonds, healthy parenting, life skills, bonding, and reducing violence and substance abuse.
Macro Personal Reality
Establishing positive parenting skills within the community will assist the parents in gaining new
alternatives to their current practices. Often we get the same families that are repeat offenders or they
never really learn their ways of parenting are not acceptable (Ruiz, 2015). Providing the Strong

Determining the Water Potential of Potato Cells
EXERCISE 1C: Determining the Water Potential of Potato Cells
Introduction: Water potential was defined above as an expression of the tendency of water to diffuse
from one region to another. Water potential is a numerical value that must be determined for a given
temperature and pressure. In this exercise you will determine the water potential of potato cells at
room temperature and ambient pressure by placing cores of potato tissue in sucrose solutions of
different concentrations and measuring the net movement of water in each case. In animal cells,
movement of H2O into and out of a cell is influenced by the relative concentration of solute on either
side of the cell membrane. If water moves out of the cell, the cell will shrink or ... Show more content

We will assume, for purposes of explanation, that the solute is not diffusing (Figure 1 .2a). The
movement of water into the cell causes the cell to swell, and the cell membrane pushes against the cell
wall to produce an increase in pressure (turgor).
Figure 1.2a
Before
Pure Water
(p= 0; ((= 0; ( = 0
(p= 0; ((= 3; ( = 3
Figure 1.2b
After
Pure Water
(p= 0; ((= 0; ( = 0
(p= +3; ((= 3; ( = 0
As water continues to diffuse into the cell, the rising positive turgor pressure begins to cancel out the
negative osmotic potential of the cell. This process will continue until the positive turgor pressure is so
large it completely cancels the negative osmotic potential, and the water potential of the cell = 0 = ( of
pure water. At this point, a dynamic equilibrium is reached, and net water movement will cease
(Figure 1.2b). Now imagine starting over with a fresh piece of potato in a beaker of distilled water.
The potato has a water potential of 2.3 bars, as in the above example. If you add solute to the water
outside the potato cells, the water potential of the solution surrounding the cells will decrease. It is
possible to add just enough solute to the water so that the water potential outside the cell is the same
as the water

Tax Guilty Pleasures Research Paper
Vincent St Martin
English Composition
Classical Argument
Should we tax our guilty pleasures? We all have that cheat day where we skip out on our workouts to
continue watching television shows, or eat that last scoop of ice cream even though you know you
probably shouldn t. Sometimes we even have great days that we worked extra hard to deserve that
decadent chocolate bar or a French Silk Pie Blizzard from Dairy Queen. Then there are people that eat

Taxes on Flamin Hot Cheetos are not going to take a toll on my savings account. An extra 10 to 20
cents per bag is not going to stop me from having a splurge day, but if there was a tax of 20% making
bags of chips an extra dollar or two more to purchase, I would start to reconsider purchasing bags of
chips to save money and lean towards a cheaper and possible healthier option, then save my special
bag of chips for a special

  • 2. Social Forces in to Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee Everyone in the world has their own identity; have you ever thought about what your identity is? Identity plays a big role in the world especially in America where not all identities are good. People might identify a wealthy person as snotty rich or a poor person as defective or maybe someone calls a man a woman when they re really a man. Or maybe you call someone a terrorist just because they are middle eastern. The list goes on and on and thats why social forces influence identities and can become dangerous. Gender, race, and social class are all forms of social forces. Race is everywhere in the world. But people need to understand that race isn t color. Anyone can have color; people can be a Hispanic and have very dark skin and still be referred to as a black person. Race is culture and culture is everywhere. It disgusting how we can t get along with each other and we re in the 21st century. In the race forum at John Hersey High school (Janu, Bruce) it was said that there s still a lot of racism going on in the world to this date. He gave the example of many lynchings in Texas. In the book To Kill A Mockingbird Scouts dad is called a nigger lover (Lee Chapter 9) and the only reason he is called a nigger lover is because he is a lawyer and he helps anyone out when they are in trouble. Another example in the To Any Would Be Terrorists (Nye n.p) article says that when the word terrorist is said, people automatically think its referring to the middle east or ... • 3. The Life of Saint Anthony The life of Saint Anthony was vividly pictured in the narration of his life by no other person than St. Athanasius. In St. Athanasius description of St. Anthony, he explored all areas where St. Anthony was modeled as a saint. In light of this, the thesis for this essay states that classical genres to which St. Athanasius modelled the Life of St. Anthony is autobiography/biography, mythology and adventures. Throughout the description of St. Anthony s life, he conformed himself to these models. To this end, this essay explores ways in which St. Anthony s life conformed to these models. One of the first ways St. Anthony s life conformed to St. Athanasius model was his first step into asceticism (Robert 26). Asceticism was the first major decision St. Anthony took after the death of his parents. The death of his parents left him with the burden of caring for his sister and taking care of the vast property that belonged to the family. However, while on his way to church, he was meditating a bible verse but on stepping into the church, he was baffled when he heard the Gospel being read instructing whoever wants to serve God to go and sell of his property and distribute the profits from the sale to the poor. He felt that the verse of the Gospel was meant for him so he did exactly as he was instructed (Robert 26). After selling off the property, he distributed the proceeds amongst the poor. St. Anthony went to church again and after listening to the Gospel again, he said he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Importance Of Freedom In Journalism And The Freedom Of... As Americans, we are taught from childhood to internalize the importance of freedom and to sing the praises of the land of the free. Political rallies, presidential speeches, and Internet forums light up day after day with fierce debates over freedom of speech or religion or the right to bear arms, but one freedom most of us fail to prioritize as we should is one unique to developed countries yet absolutely crucial of a true democracy: freedom of the press. Journalists expose government corruption, systemic and societal injustices, business malpractices, human rights violations, and more truths that government and businesses would rather hide. Despite efforts to keep certain acts under wraps, it is imperative that citizens understand all motives and beliefs of those in power in order to be fully informed when fulfilling their civic duties of voting and partaking in political discourse. That is the media s job, yet we are entering an era where popular opinion of the media is ever declining and leaders encourage silencing the free press that brings to light these pivotal issues. In my future, I hope to use a Bachelor s or Master s degrees in Journalism and Political Science to reestablish the currently wavering honesty and integrity in some areas of journalism that contribute to dangerous anti media ideas. We need to protect our democracy by demanding honesty and transparency in government and big business, but this goal can never be achieved if our society responds to ... • 5. Living In A Fatherless Family We are living in a fatherless generation. It is common knowledge that the majority of those who grow up in single parent homes in the U.S. are raised by the mothers roughly 80% and roughly 20% are raised by the fathers (Census Bureau, 2009). With an estimated 17 million children fatherless in the US (Census Bureau, 2009), some say it s a psychological epidemic. For this paper, fatherless will be defined as an absentee father who has not taken an intentional role by being physically, and/or emotionally, mentally present in their child/ren s life. This may include but not limited to: death, divorce, incarceration, pure abandonment, and/or other personal reasons. While it is indeed true that not all who grow up without a father have the issues described below, the following studies and statistics do show the effects and risk factors when a family structure lacks a father. It is also true that those who lack a father can become very successful and turn into responsible and healthy individuals. While some may debate the case for nature/nurture in fatherless families, we will talk a look at specific studies and statistics that show the correlation between fatherless families and education levels, incarceration rates, and social, mental, and emotional issues. From even before birth, fathers have a vital role in their child/ren s life. Throughout the world, immigrants experience many difficulties when assimilating into a new culture. The novel How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents, by Julia Alvarez, illustrates these challenges. As a result of these American problems the mother decides to move the family into boarding schools in order to avoid these cultural conflicts. Discrimination is a common problem foreign students face when initially transitioning into a foreign countries school. Several aspects of educational institutions in America are much different from those in the Dominican, and these differences create tension and conflict among foreign students and native peers. Several of the events that the Garcia girls experienced are common negative aspects of cultural integration. Harassment and discrimination are common forms of cultural conflicts that occur between two opposing cultures. Cultural values that have become forged into a person s life usually remain with them for long periods of time. In this case, the Garcia girls were unable to completely adjust their perspectives of Dominican values to accommodate to their Americanized living situation. They held on to their traditional Dominican values, which conflicted with American culture. As a result, they experienced harassment and discrimination. • 7. Americans DID Land on the Moon In the later days of May in 1961, President John F. Kennedy announced before a special joint session of Congress, his ambitious goal of sending a human to the moon before the end of the decade. However, this enormous goal, that would appear to be a catalyst for domestic pride, has as many ties to the Cold War, as it does to the moon itself. Regardless of this, when Apollo 11 landed on the moon in July of 1969, the entire country rejoiced. While some doubted the motives of Kennedy s goal, a bigger conspiracy may have lay just beneath the surface; a conspiracy that could have shaken the entire country and enraged the world. Many well known scientists and government officials claim that the United States of America never actually landed a man on the moon, and that the government faked the entire event for both political and financial gain. Although much compelling evidence and contradictions have been brought to light by the conspiracists, NASA has successfully responded to all of these in a robust and educated manor, that fully enforces the fact that the United States of America did in fact land a man on the moon. The United States has never been a country that shies away from a political advantage, and that is exactly one of the many alleged motives for them to fake a moon landing. • 8. Contradiction Between Morals in Sophocles Antigone Essay Antigone: Contradiction Between Morals In Ancient Greece, new ideals surfaced as answers to life s complicated questions. These new beliefs were centered on the expanding field of science. Man was focused on more than the Gods or heavenly concerns. A government that was ruled by the people was suggested as opposed to a monarchy that had existed for many years. Freedom of religion was encouraged in city states. These new ideals, though good in intentions, often conflicted with each other creating complex moral dilemmas. Such was the case in Antigone, a play written by Sophocles during this era of change. In the play, Antigone and Creon battle a philosophical war exemplifying the conflict existing in the Greek ideals. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An important ideal in Ancient Greece was the belief that the government was to have no control in matters concerning religious beliefs. In Antigone s eyes, Creon betrayed that ideal by not allowing her to properly bury her brother, Polynices. She believed that the burial was a religious ceremony, and Creon did not have the power to deny Polynices that right. Antigone s strong beliefs eventually led her to her death by the hand of Creon. Never, though, did she stop defending what she thought was right. As Creon ordered her to her death, Antigone exclaimed, I go, his prisoner, because I honored those things in which honor truly belongs (Sophocles page #). She is directly humiliating Creon by calling his opinions and decisions weak and unjust. She also emphasizes his prisoner, which tells us that Creon s decision to capture Antigone was his own, and was not backed up by the majority of the people. She feels that Creon is abusing his power as king and dealing with her task to a personal level. Creon s actions are guided by the ideal that states man is the measure of all things. The chorus emphasizes this point during the play by stating that There is nothing beyond (man s) power (Sophocles page #). Creon believes that the good of man comes before the gods. Setting the example using Polynices body left unburied is a symbol of Creon s belief. No man who is his country s enemy shall call himself my friend (Sophocles page #). ... The key behind Smith s writing is to prove how division of labour will improve economic progress. Initially, Smith proposes the idea of division of labour in the workplace. This allows for employees to work more efficiently since it helps them complete the task with ease. Along with the growth model, Smith attempts to prove that a market system is self regulating. He explains how the first step to a self regulating system is self interest. As humans, we thrive off of profit or any method of material gain from goods and services. This self interest is what initiates the system. The presence of competition keeps any one business from dominating the market. When there are multiple sellers of a good or service, consumers will often purchase the one that they can get at a more affordable price. This keeps competitors from raising their prices to gain a higher profit, since the consumer most often opts for the lowest priced item. The last factor to the self regulating system states that, changing desires of society lead producers to increase production of wanted goods and to diminish the production of goods that are no longer as highly desired (Heilbroner 50). Therefore, businesses must keep advancing their products in order to maintain relevance in the market. Society has expectations that business must achieve, hence they must have an ongoing development in their goods and service that adjust to the needs of the consumer. If they fail to do so, the product becomes obsolete, which causes businesses to shut down. Critical theory in gender performativity presents a social theory to critique and change the society as opposed to the traditional theory. I slept as never before, a stone on the riverbed, nothing between me and the white fire of the stars but my thoughts, and they floated light as moths among the branches of the perfect trees. According to a research paper written by Martin Lindstrom, Branding is all about building emotional ties between consumer and product. (pg. 85) Emotional connections are made with the synergy of all five senses, and such those brands that are communicating from a multi sensory brand platform have the greatest likelihood of forming emotional connections between consumers and their product. (pg. 84); Food and Beverage companies exploit this fact to sell their products. Consider the Kellogg s breakfast cereal that goes snap, crackle, and pop: Rice Crispies. Researchers at a specialized Danish laboratories worked to create the particular sound and feel of the crunch was identifiably Kellogg s. (pg. 85). The crunch, smell, and taste, of the cereal is accompanied by the tactile feel in your mouth pairing all five senses into one bite. Without the simultaneous stimulation of multiple sensory receptors, however, the cereal would not be as memorable. Take watching a scary movie for example. Visuals paired with audio make for a very scary movie, but if you turn the audio off, suddenly the movie isn t so scary anymore. Determining the Water Potential of Potato Cells EXERCISE 1C: Determining the Water Potential of Potato Cells Introduction: Water potential was defined above as an expression of the tendency of water to diffuse from one region to another. Water potential is a numerical value that must be determined for a given temperature and pressure. In this exercise you will determine the water potential of potato cells at room temperature and ambient pressure by placing cores of potato tissue in sucrose solutions of different concentrations and measuring the net movement of water in each case. In animal cells, movement of H2O into and out of a cell is influenced by the relative concentration of solute on either side of the cell membrane. If water moves out of the cell, the cell will shrink or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We will assume, for purposes of explanation, that the solute is not diffusing (Figure 1 .2a). The movement of water into the cell causes the cell to swell, and the cell membrane pushes against the cell wall to produce an increase in pressure (turgor). Figure 1.2a Before Pure Water (p= 0; ((= 0; ( = 0 (p= 0; ((= 3; ( = 3 Figure 1.2b After Pure Water (p= 0; ((= 0; ( = 0 (p= +3; ((= 3; ( = 0 As water continues to diffuse into the cell, the rising positive turgor pressure begins to cancel out the negative osmotic potential of the cell. This process will continue until the positive turgor pressure is so large it completely cancels the negative osmotic potential, and the water potential of the cell = 0 = ( of pure water. At this point, a dynamic equilibrium is reached, and net water movement will cease (Figure 1.2b). Now imagine starting over with a fresh piece of potato in a beaker of distilled water. The potato has a water potential of 2.3 bars, as in the above example. If you add solute to the water outside the potato cells, the water potential of the solution surrounding the cells will decrease. It is
