Child Sexual Abuse In Adulthood
Child sexual abuse is a big social problem. We know about sexual abuse, but do we know the different
effects sexual abuse causes? Volunteering at Change Agents Network and being around the troubled
youth can teach someone a lot. Sexual abuse can drastically change someone s life. Just imagine how
it can effect a child s mind mentally and then think about how not addressing the issues at hand can
affect them in adulthood. Through much research and practice it was stated that childhood sexual
abuse makes people vulnerable to both mental and physical ill health (NELSON, S., BALDWIN, N.

When people mention Washington heights, it goes hand in hand with a Dominican community. A

As mainstream newspapers accounts of Dominicans involved in violent crime or drug trafficking
became commonplace, some white started to react with anger and blamed the new immigrants for the
city s decline (p. 117, 2011). Most Dominicans are based in Washington heights. According to an
article Published by Brennan Ortiz, This neighborhood is bordered to the south by Harlem at 155th

neighborhood is cut off by both the Harlem and the Hudson Rivers. Both the A, the C and 1 subway

Dominican Republic anywhere from the windows in the buildings, to the windows in the cars. Even
though, throughout the history of the United States, the country has fought to integrate all immigrants
to a point of forgetting their own culture and become Americanize, Dominicans have never been able
to completely adapt to this beliefs because of their love to their country, traditions and culture. Even

Marjane Satrapi s Persepolis Essay
Western culture has often misperceived the east and the way that their society functions. In Marjane
Satrapi s Persepolis, Satrapi uses graphic novels as a way to demonstrate to the western culture how
the east has been misrepresented. The use of media helps to depict to the west how their views of the
east may have been unfairly formed in the past. The media has only revealed limited knowledge that
only shows partial perspectives because it is difficult to get perspectives of the minorities although
they are the ones who hold the most truth. In other words the use of graphic novels and a child s
perspective give the west a new idea on how it is that society in the east functions. This style of
writing brings the connection between the two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

[of the] so called other by giving the reader the freedom to perceive the events of the revolution as
they wish and not reconsider the way that they once understood the people of the east to be (Darda

she does not claim at any point to be telling the entire story of the revolution she is merely introducing
a new perspective which up until that point had not been seen in the western countries. The concept of
making the hidden visible allows the reader to understand the Israeli revolution in a way that is has not
been viewed before (Chute 106). Through the strategic use of graphic novels it demonstrates the way
that she experienced it first hand without the interruption of western style media. Graphic novels take
away any assumptions that you may make about the revolution while reading it because you have the
image right in front of you and there is no way for it to be misinterpreted. Due to the large impact that
media has on the viewpoints and ideas of western citizens the westerns perspective of what is true and

Women s Contribution to the War Effort and Their Gain in Voting Rights
Women over 30 gained the vote in 1918. There were a number of reasons for this but mainly because
of women s contribution to the war effort. I will be looking at these different reasons and writing
about how everything came together for the vote for women. I will start by looking at what the women
did in the war.
Women were pleased by the outbreak of the war because this meant they could prove themselves and
even get suffrage at the end of it all. Women thought this was a patriotic duty and wanted to prove
they were indispensable. So many men had been called away to fight that women were needed to do
their jobs. As a result, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thanks to this there were major effects on the way men thought about women.
There were many effects that were caused by the war. Politicians like Asquith and Lloyd George
changed their mind about women because of the way women handled affairs while men were giving
women the vote in 1918. Old arguments about women being weak had been disproved by women
during the war. Parliament had to change the voting system so that all soldiers could vote. In 1913
nearly half of all men still could not vote. There were other factors of why women over 30 gained the
vote in 1918.
Women over 30 gained the vote in 1918 not only because of women s contribution to the war; there
were a few other reasons for women over 30 gaining the vote in 1918. After the war all men were
getting the vote so it was more difficult to ignore the women. The government thought that the women
s suffrage organisation would cease this opportunity to cause a revolution and unsettle Britain, but this
wasn t the case and it impressed the government at how co operative women were being. In 1915 the
government realised it had a problem. The old voting system demanded that voters live on the same
place for the twelve months before an election. So if there were to be an election during the war, most

The Firebird It was dark at the castle; Not a soul was awake. As the wind blew, the castle itself was
snoring. Nothing moved but a dark form on the fortress wall. It was a boy. Climbing over the wall, the
prince sneaked to the open attic window. With the guards sleeping at their posts, it was child s play.
Agile as a squirrel, he darted into the attic. Inside the room, beheld the Firebird, a majestic sun eagle
of gold. Withdrawing the Firebird, the boy stared at the pure golde cage, coveting it. A name was
engraved on the handle, genommen*. Though the prince was warned against stealing it, his hand

BUSN WK6 Assignment Analysis
BUSN WK6 ASSIGNMENT The main approach would be for the board to provide a strategic plan set
in place for the nonprofit organization and its mission. Once the funds have been allocated, it is the
responsibility of the CEO/Executive Director to see that those funds are applied as assigned. All funds
disbursed for day to day operations, weekly and monthly are tallied. If the forecast for a certain
program was over estimated, the CEO/Executive Director can inform the board and suggest other
avenues for unassigned funds. It also presents itself in the form of first hand knowledge, like being on
the front line and reporting back to headquarters of the current positions. CEO/Executive Directors in
the nonprofit sector are focused and balanced at the same time for maximum success. Lacking
knowledge on finances, most executive directors need to know what financial information is essential.
Having that information or financial statements in an understandable format and knowing how to
analyze those reports to assess the financial health of the organization is crucial for making
programming decisions and financial goals. (Brickman, P. 2005). This information of analysis is

Federated Department Stores Case Study
Federated Department Stores made a decision in 2005 to reposition and consolidate 15 of its regional
department store chains under just one national brand Macys. This decision was in response to the
decline in sales and profits that had hit the traditional department store industry, which was in a
maturing stage and moving towards a downward trend for some time. Just three years later, in 2008,
U.S. economy was hit by a recession that threatened the livelihood of many successful retail giants.
While Macy s did experience a significant drop in revenue in 2008 with a net loss of $4,803 million,
compared to other department stores such as Mervyn s that went bankrupt when the recession hit,
Macy s managed to stay in the game. Macy s ability to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, once again Macy s did not have to put any efforts into establishing new relationships but would
simply have to maintain the existing ones. On the other hand, as a consequence of a declining retail
industry, less and fewer customers were flocking towards department stores as well, thus making
competition aggressive for the existing companies competing for a sliver of the limited profits that
were still available. Yet competition within existing companies was not the only threat, discount stores
like Walmart, Target, and Marshalls were beginning to build momentum in the market, gaining more
sales. Moreover, with the presence of Internet, online shopping was beginning to rise in popularity,
which also brought in more retailers to the already heavily competitive retail environment. Thus, due
to these challenges, Macy s repositioning and consolidating efforts was a good strategic move to
restore its vitality. In fact, the offshoot of the consolidation tactics enabled Macy s to provide
moderately priced products. Thus, by remaining in the middle of a bell shaped curve, Macy s was able
to gain a large part of the market share and by identifying a new position as affordable luxury, Macy s
would be able to broaden its consumer base. In addition, Macy s national brand coupled with its
unique product price point at the

The Development And Testing Of An Intermediate Concept...
Ability of Children to
Identify Bad Choices and Justifications
Kent S. Michael
The University of Alabama
Introduction Stephen Thoma, W. Pitt Derryberry, and H. Michael Crowson published an article (2013)
outlining the development and testing of an intermediate concept measure (ICM) of moral reasoning
on an adolescent population, and one of the unexpected findings was the difficulty of research
participants to accurately identify bad choices and justifications (Thoma et al., 2013). It is important to
note that an analogous pattern was found in a previous study utilizing the ICM with young adults in
their last year of dental school (Bebeau Thoma, 1999). To the author s knowledge, a similar study has
not been conducted on a younger segment of the population. The purpose of this proposal is to assess
whether children aged 9 11 also struggle when identifying bad choices and justifications.
Literature Review
Moral Reasoning A brief overview of the history of moral psychology in the Kohlbergian tradition is
necessary to understand the significance and need for the current proposal. Jean Piaget presented his
construct of moral reasoning in his theory of development, and he found there were two stages of
moral reasoning heterenomous and autonomous. The former is associated with Piaget s concrete
operational stage as moral reasoning is dependent upon the relational context of the child and
authority figures (parents, God, etc.) and is inductive by nature. The latter is

The Pros And Cons Of Heart Transplants
The Problem that we have nowadays is that 29.1 million people have diabetes and 2.1 billion people

your body will have no way of transporting oxygen, blood clots will occur and in a short period of
time you will die. Being over weight makes you prone to get heart problems taking into account such
variables as age, physical activity, sex and smoking habits, the researchers found that people that are
moderately overweight have a 32% higher risk of heart disease compared to people who have a good

Estimates of the cost of the artificial heart include charges for the surgical procedure, device and

of $300,000 per patient in the initial year. The stress and lack of exercise will restrict the patients from
doing regular exercise because the new heart wouldn t be able to pump fast enough so it could lower
the patients moral. Economical influences consist of the amount of money that is available to the

Social Media Marketing Communication Marketing
Social Media Marketing Communication
Overview
As seen in product marketing, successful marketing requires organizations to think outside of the box
and find new ways to communicate to their consumers. The majority of consumers utilize social
media such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube; organizations must exploit their marketing
techniques on these sites in order to maximize their advertising range (Adis, Ing, Osman, Razli, Pang,
Sondoh, Majid, 2015). Not to mention, social media marketing has become more popular because of
its cost effectiveness and efficiency in reaching and engaging with consumers (Castronovo Huang,
2012). For this reason, social networking is becoming a necessity, according to St. Clergy (2012),
Nearly four in five active Internet users visit social networks and blogs...Americans spend more time
on Facebook than they do on any other U.S. website, and Internet users over 55 are driving the growth
of social networking through the mobile Internet. (St. Clergy, 2012, para. 2)
Known as the horizontal revolution, information no longer flows vertically from big companies to the
rest of the world, consumers have become marketing tools as well. Unfortunately, organizations are
unable to control the message that consumers are communicating (Bruce Solomon, 2013); however,
they can use social media to assure their audiences of the company s commitment to the consumer s
satisfaction.
Purpose
There are two types of marking communication used on

The Role of a Journalist
Role of Journalist Australian writer/journalist Karl Karus said it best when he said, corruption is worse
than prostitution. The latter might endanger the morals of an individual, the former invariably
endangers the morals of the entire country. For decades, the United States has been one the most
notable countries to come under fire with reports of government corruption. During the dawn of the
new millennium the Transparency Corruption began to publish their Corruption Perceptions Index
(CPI), a culmination of assessments and opinion surveys by experts which rank countries based on
their perceived corruption. In 2012, the U.S ranked 19 out of 174 countries. Its often questioned how
this report would vary had it been published decades before when whistle blowers and journalist were
striving to shed light onto government corruption in the 50s , 60s, and 70s. Throughout the history of
the United States its been the responsibility of journalist and whistle blowers to report dishonesty and
injustice created by those in power. In a letter to Virginia statesman Edward Carrington, President
Thomas Jefferson shared his views on the press and government. The basis of our governments being
the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to
decide whether we should have a government without newspapers or newspapers without a
government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter. Its been this

Analysis Of Digging By Seamus Heaney
Seamus Heaney, one of the most world renowned poets in Ireland, takes pride in his past memories as
a kid, implementing literacy strategies in majority of his poems to share his background. Memories
ultimately builds the foundation of an individual, developmenting both negative and positive
experiences that define a person. Heaney expresses these experiences by utilizing numerous devices,
such as diction, imagery, and tone, to highlight the sensation of physical interactions that he feels. In
one of his poems, Digging , Heaney starts the first stanza with a rhyme scheme, The squat pen rests;
snug as a gun. (Heaney 2) This quote provides a description of the shovel and pinpoints as certain
burden that Heaney feels about the shovel. The words snug as a gun conveys that the shovel gives a
sense of violence and force. However, Heaney must accept the fact that digging is a tradition inherited
from his father and doesn t want to disappoint him. As a result, this thought sets a respectful tone
towards his father in the first stanza and continues on with imagery, describing the action of digging,
Under my window, a clean rasping sound, When the spade sinks into gravelly ground. (Heaney 3)
This reference is defined through Heaney s perspective of his father digging outside. This childhood
memory sparks deep descriptions of actions held within the poem, concentrating on sound, smell, and
sight to feature the response that digging has on Heaney. The hearing of the digging outside the
window proposes that Heaney is writing exactly what he remembers, connecting to the thematic theme
of memories and how it shapes the understanding of an individual. The memory signifies an important
experience in Heaney s life, exemplifying the control that comes in digging and connects this to the
control he has over his life. In addition, in stanzas 8 to 12, Heaney s focal point rests on his rustic Irish
past and the introduction of Heaney s family tradition. This past memory frames the roots and basis in
which he grew up on and expands his perception of digging through the linkage of his father and
grandfather, By God, the old man could handle a spade. Just like his old man. (Heaney 15) From this
sentiment, digging

Measurable
to become a successful marketing man can definitely be calibrated and measured thru the holding of

Freedman And Lolita
Before sexuality was liberated by contemporary studies and social change, fantasy was what an
abstaining person had to define their sexuality in an era of chastity. Fantasies can take many forms and
continually the theme of older men with young women remains which is reminiscent of the days when
men married older and women married younger. The theme tends to bring up images of rejuvenation,
youth, and a raging sexuality. Historically, young female sexuality was used as a tool to define a man s
own value in his eyes and the eyes of others. This conclusion becomes clear when using the scholarly
works of John D Emilio and Estelle Freedman along with the films Lolita and American Beauty, two
movies regarding an older man s sexual fixation on a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

However, they still affect his emotional stability, as did Humbert s affair with Lolita. Lester transfers
his new found sexual fantasy and freedom into an external drive to remove himself from the listless
existence in suburbia. He was missing the shared experience of the post liberation period because his
wife was isolated from him every sexual aspect of Lester is displayed either in a fantasy or as only
existing within himself. Lester began to completely change when Angela reshaped him, personally and
mentally, as a sexual being. Hearing her say things such as if he just worked out a little, he d be hot
validate him as a member of the post liberated era in a way that his wife never did. Lester took control
of his own worth as a person and as a man. He began to act in ways that personified youthfulness and
fulfilled his own life, which fits well into the post liberation era. Angela plays an interesting role in the
post liberated context as personifying a rising expectation within society. D Emilio and Freedman had
broached the topic of a demographic shift of late marriage and increase in pre marital intercourse that
were influenced by such innovations as birth control (D Emilio and Freedman, 333). Angela, with her
explicit conversations about sex, sexuality, and Lester represents what society may see the teenage girl
as in this new era: provocative, single, and experienced. However, her admission of inexperience in
private is a sharp contrast to that expectation that exists in a new society and reduces her role back to
that of a simple child. The film is critical of the act of hiding behind fronts of sexuality and
superficiality. It acknowledges that sexuality is complex and that society is affected deeply by

Assessing The Damage Of Mountain Pine Beetle Infestation
Introduction
The objective of this study is to utilize Local indicator of spatial association (LISA), in particular the
bivariate local Moran s I, as a procedure for evaluating the damage of mountain pine beetle infestation
over vast lodgepole pine forest with GIS and coarse scale multi temporal Aerial overview survey
(AOS) data. The authors point out beetle infestation results in commercial timber loss, increase fire
risk, habitat loss. They also point out, a growing concern of spreading beyond its historical range. And
traditional mitigation methods have been expensive and time consuming. Therefore this study sets out
to help forest managers address beetle infestation epidemics in a cost effective and timelier manner
using Moran s I risk analysis model.
The study site was located in British Columbia, Canada. The site was selected base on its abundance
of lodgepole pine; a favoured tree of the mountain pine beetle. The area covered approximately 30
million hectares of the province 95 million hectare land mass. The pine distribution data collected
from the AOS which was 1 km resolution raster cells where each cell is represented by the estimated
percentage of pine at the location from the years 2002 to 2006. The method was carried out in three
parts (i.e. organising data, predicting risk classes, risk rating evaluation). Firstly, the authors prepared
the data in ArcGIS where they overlaid AOS data onto basemaps then classified the data into risk

Similarities Between College And University
The terms college and university originally had very similar meanings. Only with the passing of
centuries did university come to signify an educational institution composed of more than one college.
The word college means literally union formed by law, or a group of people associated in some
common function. The ancient Roman craft guilds were called collegia. The closest parallel today is
the corporation, a business organization chartered by a government.
 During the Middle Ages students at the universities of Paris, Oxford, and Cambridge found it
convenient to rent houses and share expenses instead of living in private apartments. By the 13th
century these houses of scholars were becoming legally recognized corporate institutions. ... Show

When used in its modern sense as a place for advanced learning, it usually required the addition of
other words such as masters and scholars. The term that was normally used to describe a legally
chartered school of teachers and students was studium generale, meaning a place of study open to
students from all parts. The universitas was a group of teachers or students (or perhaps both) within
the studium. A studium was quite similar to a guild in both origin and composition. The beginners
were essentially apprentices, called bachelors, while the teachers were the masters.
 The studium probably emerged when the bishop of a diocese gave a teacher permission to operate a
school other than the local cathedral or monastery school. It is likely that a license to teach was
granted to a master after a formal examination. The studium itself became a school that granted a
teaching license to its scholars after they completed a prescribed course of study and passed

Narrative Essay On Nfl Season
On the eve of what should be a national holiday, I ponder my predictions on the upcoming NFL

Uniforms Should Not Wear School Uniforms
During every school year, the issue on if school officials should or should not entail students to wear
uniforms in school is a constant debate among the parents and staff members in school districts. Just
like any other controversial issues, there are two sides to the argument representing both the good and
bad points that exist behind student being required to wear uniforms in school. Although it can take
students time to adjust to transitioning into the policy of being required to wear uniforms in school
when it is first enforced, the benefits that come from them makes it all worth the hassle. Individuals
against the idea of students being required to wear uniforms in school, often fail to see the bigger
picture at hand. Uniforms help with removing negative situations in schools, along with helping
parents save time and money. For over a decade now school districts in the United States have
enforced dress codes on students, that has led up to students being required to wear uniforms in
school. It all started in the 1950 s when girls were not allowed to wear pants in school, leaving them to
only be allowed to wear skirts or dresses (McVeigh, pg.85). The 1950 s was not the only period in
history leading up to the beginning of school uniforms. In 1960 s it was unacceptable for the boy to
wear blue jeans, black leather jackets, and other accessories associated with gangs in school
(McVeigh, pg.85). It wasn t until the late 1980 s that dress code policy really began to spread,

Theories Of Personality Theory
Theories of Personality Dispositional and Evolutionary or Biological Personality Your Name
Institution Theories of Personality Dispositional and Evolutionary or Biological Personality Scientists
believe that personality is often a huge factor that determines the choices that we make in daily lives.
Personality is not unique to humans, animals also have distinct personalities; any pet owner will agree.
The question that we are first inclined to ask is what is personality? Why do we need it? The answer to
the first question is fairly simple; according to Feist Rosenberg (2009), personality is a pattern of
relatively permanent traits and unique characteristics that give both consistency and individuality to a
person s behaviour . There are two approaches as far as personality theories are concerned, viz.
dispositional theory and biological or trait based theories. These theories are constitute of many other
smaller theories. The primary theorists discussed in the following sections are Eysenck, Alloport,
Tupes, Goldberg and Christal. Dispositional Personality theory Dispositional personality theory is a
combination of theories with a central theme; all of them attribute personality to innate attributes of an
individual. According to the dispositional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

important as an individual s main life choices are determined by these traits. The Central traits
determine the rules for daily interactions and most people have five to ten central traits. Finally, the
secondary traits are occasional attributes that are displayed only under special

Mini Ice Age Research Paper
According to a study performed by the University of Northumbria (https://www.northumbria.ac.uk/)
of the United Kingdom, Earth s northern hemisphere should be experiencing a mini ice age in the next
15 years. However, new research shows that this may not be the case after all. This could just be a
case of confusing causation with correlation, but that doesn t forgive the phenomenal news being
released without confirmation and having the claim be refuted mere days later.
The Original Claim
The claim of the new mini ice age first came about after the UK s National Astronomy Meeting
(https://www.ras.org.uk/component/gem/?id=338) suggested that the sun may have a period of
significantly lowered output. This is not a new claim. Solar activity fluctuations ... Show more content

On the other hand, even basic science classes teach us that correlation does not equal causation.
Why This is Wrong
The lowered amount of solar activity in the 1600 s is referred to as the Maunder Minimum
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maunder_Minimum). The Maunder Minimum was a period of time
where the sunspots were at their lowest in number, appearing as only around 50 as opposed to their
current average of 40,000 to 50,000 over a course of 30 years. This decrease in sunspots happened
approximately the same time as the Little Ice Age, however, the ice age started nearly a century before
the Maunder Minimum occurred and lasted long after it ended.
Solar Change and the Effects on Earth
That s not to say that links between solar activity and Earth s climate don t exist, however; they clearly
do. There are just other factors that may be more influential. For example, the amount of power the
sun produces, or solar irradiance, is reduced by only 0.1% during this time of less frequent sunspots.
However, the amount of ultraviolet output over a solar cycle can deposit energy in our stratosphere
that is a direct causation of colder winters in Europe at

As per the Uniform Evidence Act, there are two aspects of the test for admissibility under the uniform
evidence legislation. The first is the requirement of notice which applies to all tendency and
coincidence evidence. The second aspect of the test for admissibility is a test for probative value. In
general, the legislation requires that tendency and coincidence evidence must have significant
probative value : ss 97(1)(b) and 98(1)(b). If the tendency or coincidence evidence is evidence about

Comparison Of Nonviolent Uprising And The Mau Uprising

Outline: Comparison of the Resistance against British Rule in India and Kenya
My two cases for comparison are the Indian Independence movement led by Mahatma Gandhi against
British rule, and the Mau Mau Uprising in Kenya, also against rule by the British Commonwealth. The
two uprisings occurred in the mid 1900s, with the Indian Independence movement taking place before
and during World War II, and the Mau Mau uprising occurring after the war. The predominantly
nonviolent Indian Independence Movement resulted in success and Indian self rule, whereas the
violent uprising in Kenya failed in its immediate goal of the removal of British authorities. The
principal actors in both movements were citizens subjected to suppressive policies enacted by British
rule, as well as economic exploitation and social degradation. Gandhi led the people of India through
nonviolent movements aimed at dispelling the British government, whereas the Kikuyu group in
Kenya had little to no center of authority. The two cases offer a useful comparison of the overall
effectiveness of violent and nonviolent conflicts. The type of uprising (violent of nonviolent) is a key
factor in determining a movement s success or failure, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Comparing Mulatto And A Raisin In The Sun
When looking at the origins of African American Dramas specifically in Mulatto, Native Son, A

these characters created the sense that everyone in this time were still searching for their identity. Each
character in the plays had to overcome difficulties relating to their skin color, thus causing either
confusion or confidence in their search for what defines them as their self. It created internal conflicts
and they often blamed society for specific expectations and stereotypes. How the characters decided to

Patents And Its Impact On The World
For hundreds of years inventors have been able to obtain monopolies through patents for their
innovations. A patent is a set of exclusive rights granted by the government to an inventor for their
privately owned innovation with an expiration of 20 years. This gives the patentee the right to legally
withhold other human resources from the production, consumption, distribution and vending of their
invention. In order to receive a patent, its application must include claims which define the invention
as innovative, original and useful or otherwise applicable to industry. Patents were initiated for many
reasons including providing property rights for accomplishments of people along with preventing

While inventors of different innovative technologies may experiment on each other s inventions, those
with ownership of patents are the legal vendors to rights to go ahead in the step process of placing
their product on the market. On behalf of the world s economy and technological stance the WTO
developed an agreement for Trade Related Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS). Through this
agreement the WTO attempted to create balance between long term and short term objectives for
future innovations, which helps progress technology through dissemination. Basically rights over
production and sale of new technology are protected while new inventions are allowed to be studied.

The protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights should contribute to the promotion of
technological innovation and to the transfer and dissemination of technology, to the mutual advantage
of producers and users for the technological knowledge and in a manner conducive to social and
economic welfare, and to a balance of right and obligations.

incentive to create new drugs increased due to the contracted availability of patented information for
research along with the possible future benefits from the creativity of the inventors. A patent

Symbolism In Bless Me Ultima
Rudolfo Anaya s novel, Bless Me, Ultima, depicts the struggle of a young boy, Antonio, to find his
path in life. As he tries to understand events of his waking hours, his dreams haunt his
unconsciousness. Through the interpretation of the symbolism of Antonio s dreams, the reader
develops a deeper understanding of Antonio s struggles. Throughout the novel, Antonio is learning
that Ultima s owl is also his protector. Its song seemed to say that it had come to watch over us, (13).
The song, Ultima s owl sings throughout each night, symbolizes Ultima s comforting presence in
Antonio s life and the protective power of her magic. Also, like Ultima, the owl is like a healer to
Antonio, when it sings through the night. The owl had always been there. It sang to me the night my
brothers came home from the war, and in my dreams I sometimes saw it guiding their footsteps as
they stumbled through the dark streets of their distant cities, (272). Throughout the novel, the owl of
Ultima is not only Ultima s protector, but it is also Antonio s protector. Also, in Antonio s mind as
well, he could see it as a guiding spirit, because it provided a sense of hope and longing. All in all,
Antonio sees Ultima s owl as a protector and comforting presence throughout the novel.

these effects so better policy decisions can be made.
Rice is one of the major crops grown in flooded fields, it absorbs arsenic from soil or water much
more effectively than most plants. Improved irrigation and agricultural practices can help reduce
arsenic contamination of rice and other crops, for example growing crops in raised beds instead in
water flooded conditions.
Since, arsenic in our environment is not only due to arsenic containing minerals in the earth, it is
important to say that most of the arsenic problems we have today are result of human activity, such as
the use of arsenic based products for industrial and agricultural purposes like use of arsenic containing

Sigmund Freud s Psychodynamic Approach
The Psychodynamic Model, developed by Sigmund Freud, views the cause of mental disorders as the
result of childhood trauma, anxieties, and unconscious conflicts. According to Freud, human behavior
tends to express instinctual drives that function at the unconscious level. These instinctual drives can

viewed as the realistic and rational part of the mind. The superego is part of the conscience, therefore,
it discourages people from engaging in immoral and unethical behaviors. Fred also suggested that the
development of human personality is drastically affected by early childhood experiences which can be
found in five psychosexual stages: the oral, anal, phallic, latency and genital. Another approach that
the psychodynamic model uses is defense mechanisms which help ... Show more content on

Therefore, it is difficult to pinpoint what event impacted the individual unless they undergo
psychoanalysis. Psychoanalysis helps individuals to uncover repressed material and resolve any
conflicts that affect their current

In 1913 nearly half of all men still could not vote. There were other factors of why women over 30 gained the vote in 1918. Women over 30 gained the vote in 1918 not only because of women s contribution to the war; there were a few other reasons for women over 30 gaining the vote in 1918. After the war all men were getting the vote so it was more difficult to ignore the women. The government thought that the women s suffrage organisation would cease this opportunity to cause a revolution and unsettle Britain, but this wasn t the case and it impressed the government at how co operative women were being. In 1915 the government realised it had a problem. The old voting system demanded that voters live on the same place for the twelve months before an election. Federated Department Stores Case Study Federated Department Stores made a decision in 2005 to reposition and consolidate 15 of its regional department store chains under just one national brand Macys. This decision was in response to the decline in sales and profits that had hit the traditional department store industry, which was in a maturing stage and moving towards a downward trend for some time. Just three years later, in 2008, U.S. economy was hit by a recession that threatened the livelihood of many successful retail giants. On the other hand, as a consequence of a declining retail industry, less and fewer customers were flocking towards department stores as well, thus making competition aggressive for the existing companies competing for a sliver of the limited profits that were still available. Yet competition within existing companies was not the only threat, discount stores like Walmart, Target, and Marshalls were beginning to build momentum in the market, gaining more sales. Moreover, with the presence of Internet, online shopping was beginning to rise in popularity, which also brought in more retailers to the already heavily competitive retail environment. Thus, due to these challenges, Macy s repositioning and consolidating efforts was a good strategic move to restore its vitality. In fact, the offshoot of the consolidation tactics enabled Macy s to provide moderately priced products. Thus, by remaining in the middle of a bell shaped curve, Macy s was able to gain a large part of the market share and by identifying a new position as affordable luxury, Macy s would be able to broaden its consumer base. Michael The University of Alabama Introduction Stephen Thoma, W. Pitt Derryberry, and H. Michael Crowson published an article (2013) outlining the development and testing of an intermediate concept measure (ICM) of moral reasoning on an adolescent population, and one of the unexpected findings was the difficulty of research participants to accurately identify bad choices and justifications (Thoma et al., 2013). It is important to note that an analogous pattern was found in a previous study utilizing the ICM with young adults in their last year of dental school (Bebeau Thoma, 1999). To the author s knowledge, a similar study has not been conducted on a younger segment of the population. The purpose of this proposal is to assess whether children aged 9 11 also struggle when identifying bad choices and justifications. Literature Review Moral Reasoning A brief overview of the history of moral psychology in the Kohlbergian tradition is necessary to understand the significance and need for the current proposal. Jean Piaget presented his construct of moral reasoning in his theory of development, and he found there were two stages of moral reasoning heterenomous and autonomous. The former is associated with Piaget s concrete operational stage as moral reasoning is dependent upon the relational context of the child and authority figures (parents, God, etc.) and is inductive by nature. Social Media Marketing Communication Marketing Social Media Marketing Communication Overview As seen in product marketing, successful marketing requires organizations to think outside of the box and find new ways to communicate to their consumers. The majority of consumers utilize social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube; organizations must exploit their marketing techniques on these sites in order to maximize their advertising range (Adis, Ing, Osman, Razli, Pang, Sondoh, Majid, 2015). Not to mention, social media marketing has become more popular because of its cost effectiveness and efficiency in reaching and engaging with consumers (Castronovo Huang, 2012). For this reason, social networking is becoming a necessity, according to St. Clergy (2012), Nearly four in five active Internet users visit social networks and blogs...Americans spend more time on Facebook than they do on any other U.S. website, and Internet users over 55 are driving the growth of social networking through the mobile Internet. (St. Clergy, 2012, para. 2) Known as the horizontal revolution, information no longer flows vertically from big companies to the rest of the world, consumers have become marketing tools as well. The latter might endanger the morals of an individual, the former invariably endangers the morals of the entire country. During the dawn of the new millennium the Transparency Corruption began to publish their Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), a culmination of assessments and opinion surveys by experts which rank countries based on their perceived corruption. • 17. Analysis Of Digging By Seamus Heaney Seamus Heaney, one of the most world renowned poets in Ireland, takes pride in his past memories as a kid, implementing literacy strategies in majority of his poems to share his background. Memories ultimately builds the foundation of an individual, developmenting both negative and positive experiences that define a person. Heaney expresses these experiences by utilizing numerous devices, such as diction, imagery, and tone, to highlight the sensation of physical interactions that he feels. In one of his poems, Digging , Heaney starts the first stanza with a rhyme scheme, The squat pen rests; snug as a gun. (Heaney 2) This quote provides a description of the shovel and pinpoints as certain burden that Heaney feels about the shovel. The words snug as a gun conveys that the shovel gives a sense of violence and force. However, Heaney must accept the fact that digging is a tradition inherited from his father and doesn t want to disappoint him. As a result, this thought sets a respectful tone towards his father in the first stanza and continues on with imagery, describing the action of digging, Under my window, a clean rasping sound, When the spade sinks into gravelly ground. (Heaney 3) This reference is defined through Heaney s perspective of his father digging outside. This childhood memory sparks deep descriptions of actions held within the poem, concentrating on sound, smell, and sight to feature the response that digging has on Heaney. The hearing of the digging outside the window proposes that Heaney is writing exactly what he remembers, connecting to the thematic theme of memories and how it shapes the understanding of an individual. The memory signifies an important experience in Heaney s life, exemplifying the control that comes in digging and connects this to the control he has over his life. In addition, in stanzas 8 to 12, Heaney s focal point rests on his rustic Irish past and the introduction of Heaney s family tradition. This past memory frames the roots and basis in which he grew up on and expands his perception of digging through the linkage of his father and grandfather, By God, the old man could handle a spade. Just like his old man. (Heaney 15) From this sentiment, digging ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Angela, with her explicit conversations about sex, sexuality, and Lester represents what society may see the teenage girl as in this new era: provocative, single, and experienced. However, her admission of inexperience in private is a sharp contrast to that expectation that exists in a new society and reduces her role back to that of a simple child. The Maunder Minimum was a period of time where the sunspots were at their lowest in number, appearing as only around 50 as opposed to their current average of 40,000 to 50,000 over a course of 30 years. This decrease in sunspots happened approximately the same time as the Little Ice Age, however, the ice age started nearly a century before the Maunder Minimum occurred and lasted long after it ended. Solar Change and the Effects on Earth That s not to say that links between solar activity and Earth s climate don t exist, however; they clearly do. There are just other factors that may be more influential. For example, the amount of power the sun produces, or solar irradiance, is reduced by only 0.1% during this time of less frequent sunspots. Comparison Of Nonviolent Uprising And The Mau Uprising Max Johnson PLSC 315 11/4/14 Outline: Comparison of the Resistance against British Rule in India and Kenya My two cases for comparison are the Indian Independence movement led by Mahatma Gandhi against British rule, and the Mau Mau Uprising in Kenya, also against rule by the British Commonwealth. The two uprisings occurred in the mid 1900s, with the Indian Independence movement taking place before and during World War II, and the Mau Mau uprising occurring after the war. The predominantly nonviolent Indian Independence Movement resulted in success and Indian self rule, whereas the violent uprising in Kenya failed in its immediate goal of the removal of British authorities. The principal actors in both movements were citizens subjected to suppressive policies enacted by British rule, as well as economic exploitation and social degradation. Gandhi led the people of India through nonviolent movements aimed at dispelling the British government, whereas the Kikuyu group in Kenya had little to no center of authority. Sigmund Freud s Psychodynamic Approach The Psychodynamic Model, developed by Sigmund Freud, views the cause of mental disorders as the result of childhood trauma, anxieties, and unconscious conflicts. According to Freud, human behavior tends to express instinctual drives that function at the unconscious level. These instinctual drives can be afflicted with sexual or aggressive impulses and any threatening experiences that we block from our consciousness which results in emotional symptoms. The psychodynamic model consists of several different aspects to help explain human personality and why people engage with instinctual drives. One aspect of the model is the three personality components, the id, the ego and the superego, conveying that all behavior is a product of interaction. The id is found at the unconscious level and influenced by the pleasure principle while the ego is viewed as the realistic and rational part of the mind. The superego is part of the conscience, therefore, it discourages people from engaging in immoral and unethical behaviors. Fred also suggested that the development of human personality is drastically affected by early childhood experiences which can be found in five psychosexual stages: the oral, anal, phallic, latency and genital.
