The Importance Of Granting Protection And Other Rights
The importance of granting protection and other rights to children in general and vulnerable or at
risk children in particular needs not to be overemphasized (Council of Australian Governments,
2012). Indeed from time to time, all people in Australia including children have been reminded that
they have certain rights which are enshrined in the country s supreme laws (AIHW, 2009). These
rights include the right to a safe, happy, and health childhood. Unfortunately for many children in
Australia, some of these rights are never or hardly enjoyed. This is especially because many
children living in Australia can be said to be living under unsafe conditions (Scott Swain, 2002).
Other than safety, a significantly large number of children are known to lead unhappy and
unhealthy rights (AIHW, 2011). Essentially, therefore, not all children are actually as protected as
they should be. An even larger number of children are at risk of social problems such as neglect,
abuse, and foster care. Others are at risk of living with vulnerable families and being deprived of
important needs in life. This raises questions regarding the welfare of children and especially how
children at risk are being protected. Protecting vulnerable and at risk children is extremely
important given the significantly high proportion of such children among the rest of the population
(Scott Swain, 2002). It is for this very reason that this essay examines the issue of child protection
and children at risk

Factors Affecting The Environment Of A Watershed
Introduction: Environmental issues caused by such human activities as farming, agriculture and
infrastructural development can negatively affect the abiotic factors of the local environment. This
can disturb water equilibrium and pose implications on the biodiversity of a watershed. Various
forms of pollution, including runoff and erosion, can interfere with the health of its aquatic
habitats. The purpose of this lab report is to observe to what extent the abiotic factors of Yellow
Creek correspond with the health status of its ecosystem. This will be done by comparing the
levels of turbidity and acidity and the corresponding level of impairment to four other water streams
in the greater Toronto area.
Research Question: How can the abiotic factors of a watershed such as acidity and turbidity
indicate the health of Yellow Creek?
Background information: Abiotic factors are nonliving, physical and chemical aspects of the
environment. (Rutherford, 2015) The pH level is a quantitative measure of the hydrogen ions
representing the acidity or alkalinity of a water solution. Aquatic life prefer water that has an
acidic level of around 6.5 8.5 pH. pH levels higher than 8.5 become highly basic, while pH levels
below 6.5 become highly acidic for water quality. This does not allow the species to regulate basic
life sustaining processes, primarily the exchanges of respiratory gases and salts within the water in
which they live.

The Life of Britney Spears Essay
I have selected Britney Spears as my subject for the reason that I realize that she has been
through so much in her life and has a tendency to convey her emotions radically and live life on
the edge most of the times. Moreover, I find it simply fascinating to scrutinize Britney Spears
personality by means of the Psychoanalysis so as to offer deeper comprehension in investigating
her personality. Even though this process of personality analysis is hardly ever employed today
due to a deficiency of empirical verification and a disappointment to deal with any adulthood impact
on personality, the approach s stress on childhood development is a long way from without
foundation. It permits for a fascinating and vibrant examination of... Show more content on

Nonetheless, Britney failed to notice a ton of things for example, not being consented to
accomplish the psychosexual stages as she thereon had attained a fear of being judged as
peculiar in the public eye, for the reason that she was so alert on her job and albeit she didn t
recognize at the moment, it had affected her in ways and that s where her regression and sexual
needs burst out akin to a balloon over flooded with water. Britney s starting off point was only just
the beginning of her future tribulations. As she began to get older, Disney, as they at all times did,
dropped her from the show, only giving her a chance to move on to bigger and better things.
Britney s Number one billboard topper, Oops I Did It Again went international rapidly, permitting
her to become a public phenomenon. At the naГЇve age of seventeen, not only did she turn into a
renowned pop singer, but an enormous sex symbol as she wore very tight, bare clothing and was
advertising her sexuality, constantly. It wasn t pending a bit after in her career did the press
commence in noticing the unsteadiness behind the pop princess. During the years, Britney has
showed signs of a great deal of impulsive behavior, which would provide evidence for this
allegation. In January 2004, for example Britney married Jason Alexander, a childhood

Summary Of Doug Mcadams Freedom Summer
Freedom Summer by Doug McAdams, is a riveting book that captures the story of the 1964
Freedom Summer. In which over a thousand volunteers went to Mississippi, to register blacks to
vote, and to staff freedom schools, something that view people realize was also a part of freedom
summer. In his book, McAdams discusses, the events that occurred during Freedom Summer, from
murder to harassment. He discusses the reasons why young white, affluent, northerners, who it
would seem would not care about the plight of African Americans, decided to take part in Freedom
Summer. McAdams chronicles the events of Freedom Summer using interviews and surveys from
people who took part in Freedom Summer, or people who applied for freedom summer but did not
take part. During the book, McAdams discusses the effect that freedom... Show more content on

In class we have discussed the reasons why people form groups, and who tends to be a part of a
group. People form groups so that, specifically interest groups. Our definition of an interest
group id it has to be an organized group, seek to influence public policy, and they don t seek
public office. Freedom Summer does not meet this definition alone, because it was a campaign,
and not an organization, however SNCC (Student Non Violent Coordinating Committee) does.
SNCC was an organized group. People had to apply to be a part of this group, there was
leadership and they had a plan of who they were going to accomplish their goals. During Freedom
summer they wanted to influence public policy, by the volunteers going out to register people to
vote, they were causing attention on the issue of disenfranchisement of African Americans in the
country, but more specifically Mississippi. These individuals were not trying to gain political
office. These were college students who wanted to create a change in the world. At least at this
time, they had no ambition to gain any political

Human Sacrifice vs. Ritual Murder in The Lottery, by...
Imagine this; it is 9am, the sun is out and even though the children are playing , but before the day
is done, someone will find themselves the winner of the lottery. However, it is not the lottery that
most are familiar with. In 1988 author Judy Oppenheimer conducted an interview with author
Shirley Jackson, the author of The Lottery. In this interview Shirley explained why she wrote the
short storyin the following excerpt ; I hoped, by setting a particularly brutal ancient rite in the
present and in my own village to shock the story s readers with a graphic dramatization of the
pointless violence and general inhumanity in their own lives (Oppenheimer 1988 ). In order to

something of that matter or perhaps even enough money to pay for all the souvenirs that they
would be sending to their families and friend while on their summer vacation. It is possible, that the
thought of someone winning a brand new shiny car could have crossed the mind of some other
reader of the short story. Was this the case? Author Shirley Jacksonmakes a daunting effort to give
the impression of everything in this small town being normal. She writes about some of the
children of the story. Her efforts to depict the children doing what children do best, playing,
added a simple twist to the story, and that same twist would soon shock the readers once they
realize the purpose of the stones the young boys were playing with were actually going to be used
to stone someone to death, but not just yet. One of the main characters of the story, Tessie
Hutchinson, made her way to the lottery a little bit late, flustered and out of breath. She even
admits to forgetting what day it was. However, despite all odds, she still made it on time
(SparkNotes Editors ). At this point the author makes a humungous step in the story that is intended
to confuse the reader. Most readers would probably think , this must really be an important event ;
Tessie must have been running or at least walking very fast, trying to make it to this

Distance Education Essay
Distance Education
Distance education is a process that creates and provides access to learning when time and distance
separate the source of information and the learners (Zhang, 1998, p.1). Distance education defies
time and space and can help create a virtual schoolhouse, or a classroom without walls (Wheat,
1998, p.1). The need to take the distance out of education has not been driven largely by sheer
need to bridge physical separations. It has been based mainly on providing access as open as
possible to those who are willing to avail themselves of the opportunities education affords them
(Tam, 1998, p.3). Education needs to reach those who are disadvantaged by location, finance, time,
and resources (Tam, 1998, p.3). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Flexibility is one advantage Web based learning has over the traditional classroom...and you can go
as fast or slow as you need to learn the course materials (Clarker, 1999, p.2). Technology is
opening up many new options for students. Students who wish to continue their education are no
longer limited to a traditional classroom setting (Sonner, 1999, p.1). According to Arlene Krebs of
New Orbit Communications, we have the third wave [of distance learning], where distance
learning is a combination of video and Internet (Hancock, 1999, p.2). However, creators of
distance learning tend to worry about how it looks more than being sensitive to what the learner
really needs (Hancock, 1999, p.2).
What Does the Distance Education Learner Really Need (and where does the instructional
technologist come into play)?
Distance learning, which is a form of multimedia, depends on a rich interactive environment to
foster learning (Hancock, 1999, p.1). The challenge for distance educators is to set up a cognitively
rich learning environment to facilitate the distant students construction processes (Zhang, 1998,
p.4). Modern distance education is student centered, not teacher centered...distance educators are
facilitators of their students education (Markel, 1999, p.3). Learner centric theories focus on the
importance of the learner over the instructor to the instructional activity (Leonard, 1999, p.3). The
new paradigm [for distance learning] is a more

The Importance Of Being Earnest Value

The Importance of Value In the drama The Importance of Being Earnest, by Oscar Wilde, Lady
Bracknell is right to say that We live, I regret to say, in an age of surfaces (Wilde 1604). This play
emphasizes that the Victorian eradid not value sympathy for the underprivileged, responsibility, or
even true honesty. Only wealthiness, class status, and style were what the Victorians cared about.
An example of this would be when neither Lady Bracknell nor Algernon exhibited much
compassion when Bunbury had died. The drama offers the idea that Earnest and Bunbury are very
similar in this play, because they are both completely made up and that they also symbolize the

The handbag that Jack was found in was described as being normal, but a little ragged from
overuse. The handbag Jack was placed in as a baby was found in a cloakroom, which is no
coincidence considering that this ordinary handbag was found in a common place where
garments such as coats, scarves, and cloaks are hung. Those pieces of clothing could all be worn
to disguise an identity or a face. The fact that Jack is found at the intersection of two lines of
trains heading two different places really puts him in an identity crisis. Even though Lady
Bracknell has no idea of Jack s original origin, she still tends to look at the negatives and judges
him based on his past. But what she does not take into consideration, is that since he was found
at Victoria Station, the reader could interpret that his social life would be very successful and
eventually hold a very reputable position. Although this idea is foreshadowed by the fact that Jack
was found on Brighton Lane, which happens to be the road that leads straight to the richer parts
of town. The story of Earnest focuses mainly on Jack s social advancements. At the end of the play
it is actually divulged that he is a true member of the aristocracy, being a part of the

In the year of 1909, Henry Matisse was in the receipt of order from rich Russian industrialist
Segey Shukin. Three large canvases for Shukin s staircase in the Trubetskoy mansion of
Moscow were to be painted. H. Matisse, Dance I, of 1909, oil on canvas, was supposed to be a

to the Fauve art piece. No recognition aspects are visible and figures are drawn slightly and
effortlessly. Their movements are unrestricted and they have been associated with bean bag dolls.

The new date for the apocalypse: 2048!!! Why? Because that s when the oceans will be empty of
fish. The cause is disappearance of species due to overfishing, pollution, habitat loss and climate
change. This presentation will only focus on overfishing. This report will explain what overfishing
is, what the causes and consequences are and what you as a person can do to stop this.
Overfishing means that we catch too much of the same type of fish or we let certain species extinct
because we catched too much of them and there aren t enough of that species left in the oceans.
Because of this, the complete marine system can collapse since we destroy a lot of coral reefs

It is the result of growing demand for fish around the world, combined with bad management of
fisheries and the development of new, more effective fishing techniques.
The cause of overfishing can be placed into three categories:
Overcapacity: All over the world, many fishing industries have special equipment and technology
that they can use deep in the oceans so that they can catch fish. They can stay at the ocean for
months and try to sell the fish as fast as possible once they are back on shore.
Unsustainable Fishing: this category involves using nets, fishing methods and other sorts of
equipment that catch far too much fish. They catch in such a large number that the fish become
endangered. It also involves catching sea animals other than fish during the same process, These
are called the by catch. A lot of the time, the by catch is destroyed and thrown back into the ocean.
This method also catches very young fish and that eventually will cause the extinction of the entire
species.
Economic and food needs: the number of fish which the big fishing industries bring to land depends
on the fishmarket and the needs of the customers. Humans have multiplied in the past century
which results in a multiplied need for

Citizens Carry Concealed Weapons Essay
Citizens Carry Concealed Weapons
In our society carrying concealed weapons seem to be a major issue. Authorities should allow
anyone to carrying weapons after they pass a background check and complete training classes.
In his essay Letting Teachers Pack Guns will make America s School Safer Lott, argues that
citizens have the right to protect themselves. I agree with him because accepting this law people
can defend themselves from criminals before police arrive. Also legalizing hidden weapons will
help to decrease violence in the streets and citizens can stop any dangerous incident from
escalating. In the United State s violence is increasing day by day and many horrible crimes
occurring daily and I am sure that someone who is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many people feel afraid to go on the streets, not matters the time criminals are looking for their
victims. I know a man that was killed when the robber was trying to take his car and it was just at
3:00p.m. If this victim were carrying a gun he would probably defend himself. I strongly support
carrying concealed weapons will help to drop violence in our streets. Citizens who have the permit
to carrying concealed weapons will help to stop any incident from escalating. For example, I
remember one incident last year when I was working in a supermarket, where someone enter and
tried to assault us at 8:00p.m. There were 20 people including three children in the supermarket
when suddenly this man with a gun was arguing about getting money. He shot my boss and he
almost harmed other person when finally someone killed him. This person saved many people
including myself. This person has the permit to carry guns. I am very grateful to him. He stopped
that criminal from harming more people that night. According to Lott, for multiple victim shootings
the biggest factor determining the amount of harm in the length of time between when an attack
starts and when someone with a gun can stop the attack, the longer the delay, the more are harmed .

Performance enhancement drugs also promote cheating in sports to be allowed. The violation of

The Role Of Abuse In Alice Walker s The Color Purple
All of the abuse that Celie experiences from the men in her life rather than aggravating her and

believed that her situation although not ideal, was normal and therefore needed to remain the
same. She even goes so far as to tell Harpo after he begins complaining about how rebellus his

Natural Law Theory, Positivism, And The Fugitive Slave Law
Since the spoken word, hundreds of philosophers have defined law in different ways. Philosophy
allows people to study the nature of people s beliefs which can differ over time. Not even the
law is exempt from the opinions of philosophers. Seeing law in different ways allows people to
come to different conclusions about legal cases. The Fugitive Slave Law was a controversial
law in American history, which allowed slave owners to capture their slaves who have fled north
to free states. Once, jurors tried a group of emancipators in Boston for helping an escaped slave
flee to Canada. These emancipators challenged the Fugitive Slave Law in United States v Morris.

If a law is not moral, thus it is not a law. Aquinas thinks this for there must be a moral reason to
follow a law. Thus, if a law does not have any moral reason for a person to follow the law, the law
is unjust. According to Aquinas, a sanction (a punishment) would not be a good enough reason to
follow an unjust law. The Fugitive Slave Law goes against the laws of nature. Humans have their
own free will and the law of nature never permits one human to claim another human. People are
not property and have their own free will. Obviously, morality says people are not possessions. One
cannot approach a person and say, I own you. It is not morally justifiable. To Aquinas the
Fugitive Slave Law is not a real law for the sake that the law does not follow morality. At the time
of the Fugitive Slave Law, people knew slavery was wrong; so, the jurors in Morris did conduct
appropriately. As stated before, natural law theory states a law requires morality. The jurors let the
emancipators free since the Fugitive Slave Law was against morality and natural law. The jurors
did the morally suitable thing through the lens of natural law theory since they were doing what
morality said.
Positivism, another attempt to answer what the law is, leads to a similar
outcome as the Natural Law theory which was that the jurors in Morris did the right thing. John
Austin discusses positivism in his book The Province of Jurisprudence Determined. First, Austin

Dropout Argument Essay
Every year, around a million of high schoolers dropout due to many different reasons. Not to
mention the failure rate of teens for their driving test slowly going higher after every passing
year. So would putting up a bill requiring a person to earn a high school diploma before he or she
could receive a driver s license is just asking for more trouble. Having up a law that requires this
type of accomplishment would just make living in a poor household even harder, especially when
the teen in question needs to dropoutto help his family survive on what little they have. Plus, what
would happen to those that have their license now, but have not graduated high school. The bill
must be resented at all costs to keep everything flowing well. Families

Essay On Macy s Department Store
In this paper, I will discuss the use of research within Macy s department store and some of the
different ways and, they might be, able to use research to help with the problems their having, if
the company is effective or ineffective in the use of research to help the organization, are they
might be using secondary and primary research, and what the company might do in the future to
expand research.
Macy and Problems
I picked Macy s for my company it was founded in 1843 and 1855 the original Macy s store is in
Haverhill, Massachusetts, by Rowland Hussey Macy, Sr. They deal in high quality Clothing,
footwear, accessories, bedding, furniture, jewelry, beauty products, and housewares. Macy s has
a couple issues, but the biggest one is the dependence on the US economy for its revenue
generation, while a few of their competitors, such as The Gap and Wal Mart Stores get a lot of
their revenue from other countries, also a lot of customers are not really buying a lot of items in
the malls and are doing a lot of internet shopping for Christmas. The use of research would really
help Macy s if they researched better ways to attract people through the web by either using
surveys, or researching about how some of their competitors can stay ahead in the industry. Also,
another good thing would be to research some different countries to see if they can ... Show more

The Gap Between Blacks and Whites Test Scores
The Gap Between Blacks and Whites Test Scores
The gap as referred to in the title, is the distribution of the scores on achievement tests that differ
between black and white students in the United States. The purpose of this study was to record
the degree of the gap in achievement scores, decide how much of the racial gap is due to social
class, how the gap differed in the 30 year period, and how that which is credited to the social
class has changed over the years. Differences in social class, family structure, and discrimination
against blacks as a disgraced group are all proposed causes for the black white gap in test scores. If
the gap is caused by a difference in social class or family structure, then when the ... Show more

Answer: The authors compared the degree of the gaps before and after they adjusted for social
class. 3. How have the gaps changed over time? Answer: The authors calculated the gaps from
data in cross sections over a 30 year period and studied the trend over time. 4. Is the portion of each
gap that is independent of social class changing over time? Answer: Yes, the authors contrasted the
rate of change over time in the social class adjusted gaps. These surveys give convincing evidence
that the gaps have decreased over time, but are still widely spread. The authors conclude that it
would take over 50 years to close the gap in reading achievement scores and over a century to
close the gap in mathematics and science achievement scores. The adjusted gaps for social class,
family structure, and community variables were closing from 1965 1992. At this rate of change
over the entire period, they would close in the same amount of time as the unadjusted gaps. The
rate of change for the unadjusted gaps seem to have reversed after 1972. These results do not give
a lot of support to the theory that the gaps in average test scores are caused by the differences in
social class and family structure. Thus, it supports the theory that the gaps in test scores are an
outcome of other factors, such as discrimination.

History of the Evolution of Women s Rights Essay
Until the mid 19th century, women were considered possessions of their husbands, and had no
control over their money or property. Thanks to the women s right movement, this has all changed
and things run a little differently now. Spouses are now equal under the law and property is shared
between them.
In the common law, all women s property except land and improvements went to her husband and it
became under his control. She pretty much had no say in what happened to any of her things.
Women were slowly losing all of their rights. If the husband wrote in his will that everything was
his and none of it would be given to his wife, then the wife pretty much had no property if the
husband died before her. If they had a kid when they were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The argument for passing it was that it protected married women and their children from
irresponsible husbands.Later on in 1860, 14 states had passed the same version of the statute.
29 states had passed the same version of the Married Women s Property act by the end of the
civil war. The act didn t take much to pass considering the women had just got their rights. But
they were still going through fights and time. They had to get these laws passed because they
had things to worry about loosing. For example the main thing they were worried about was not
being able to write their own will. Without it they had to worry about not being able to keep the
things they owned if their husbands had died or if they were just ignorant and left their wives. If
they had children the women had to worry about loosing their kids in the middle of it. Their
kids could be sent to somebody that wouldn t be a very good guardian for them. Not only was it
messing up the women s lives it was messing up their kids too. The fight for married womens
property acts was not as bad as the fight for womens rights. They did not have to go through the
danger of their lives. One couple that did protest was Lucy Stone and Henry Blackwell. They
protested for the custody of the wives person. They also were fighting for the custody of their
children. Which they thought the guardianship should not just be under the

The Union Policy Of The European Union
What most people don t realise is just how deeply being a member of the European Union affects
us in our everyday lives. It doesn t just affect our law and big political issues but also our culture,
the NHS and job prospects. In this essay I will only be focusing on a tiny amount of the issues
raised out of the enormous range including how being a member of the European Unionaffects our
laws, jobs and immigration. I will try to weigh up all of the arguments for each side and, hopefully,
come to a conclusion.
Immigration
Whether being a member of the European Union is the best thing for the United Kingdom is a very
complex issue with many different layers, therefore, making it hard to reach a definite and final
verdict without spending ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This policy evidently has many benefits however most people are seemingly only concerned with
the fact that it allows anybody within the EU to immigrate to the UK and we can t refuse them.
There has been a huge increase of the number of people coming to live in the UK over the past
few years with the UK population reaching 64,596,800 in June of 2015 almost half a million more
than the previous year .
However you have to remember that this influx of immigrants isn t just happening in the United
Kingdom, it is happening throughout the world on a major scale. For example it was reported
that by the 7th June 2015 that over 50,000 migrants had already arrived in Italy after crossing the
Mediterranean Sea from Libya in treacherous conditions and this is deemed to be only the
beginning. There has been a 750% increase in the amount of migrants going to Greece this year,
63% of which are from Syria .
The main issue that arises is over who should take these immigrants into their countries within the
EU as there are many plans being drawn up to relocate some of them through a quota system,
however not everyone wants this. The British Prime Minister David Cameron is one example of
people who want to reject the proposal about enforcing quotas of immigrants in EU countries (due
to public opinion) and he is not alone in this as many others are of the same view; these include

Slavery In The Southern States
As United States citizens take a jump back into reasonably recent history, it is guaranteed that one
will find elements of slavery in the southern states. Slavery, something many people frown on in
this day an age, looked a little different back some 150 years ago. This was a major part of the
southern colonies government and wasn t the sure cause of the American Civil War. Moreover,
slavery is how their entire economy ran, with black people working on mega plantations, picking
cotton, making clothing, and even watching children of young ages. The aspect of slavery wasn t
something that southerners looked upon with a disapproving eye; it was something that people
needed to survive and make money off of. Slavery made their world go around,... Show more

Cancer Practitioner Personal Statement
For many years now, Scientists have struggled to help medical practitioners treat their patients
according to their symptoms and provided customized healthcare on a personal basis. However,
how personal can medicine get? In 2003, researchers obtained a complete human genome from
which the sequence and map of all genes in the human body can be used as a reference. With this
development we are a step closer to treating cancer and other diseases.
Most cancer treatments engage in trial and error basis of treatment which puts so much of pain,

project funded by the NIH XYZ Clinical Translational Research Center. It was on the use of
metabonomics for the early detection of ovarian cancer. We worked on the development of various

materials used were cardboard and scrap metal, which we used to build a majority of the robot. To
make the robotfunction we used the Hummingbird Robotics Kit. We used duct tape to make the

few problems we faced with the robot was how big of a piece of tape to use to pick up the penny

the string to move and how much to make it turn. With the website we had to use to program the

The Impact Of Rap Music On Today s Society
The impact of rap music in today s society is extremely substantial. Many Americans listen to rap
music, even though different rap artist discuss various issues in their songs, it may influences
their fans to do the same. A large amount of rap music contains explicit lyrics that describe illegal
activities, aggression, and sexual content. Researchers from Iowa State University and the Texas
Department of Human Services found that aggressive music lyrics increase aggressive thought
and feelings, might perpetuate aggressive behavior and have long term effects (American
Psychological Association). Therefore, when Americans listen to rap music with that type of
perspective it promotes misogyny, illegal activities and sexual content. Rap music not only
describes violence but it exploits females. For example, the song entitled Gold Digger by Kanye
West says She take my money when I m in need ,Yea she s a trifling friend indeed ,Oh she s a
gold digger way over town, That digs on me not including that the music video shows women
dancing provocatively in lingerie as well as posing in sexual positions (Pittsburgh Post Gazette).
According to Dr. West, rap music identifies young black women in five sexual different personas.
Those five different personas are a diva, gold digger, freak, gangster b**** and baby mama
(Pittsburgh Post Gazette). The WebMD article states that after one year of studying 522 African
Americanfemales between the ages of 14 18 from lower socioeconomics

Comparison Between Cats And Dogs
Cats and dogs are considered to be the top pets in the world. Cats and dogs are both furry, four
legged animals that can make good pets. Cats and dogs like to be played with and are affectionate
animals. They both require shots and frequent visits to the vet when needed. Although both animals
can add more love to a family they are both very different animals. Some people are considered cat
people while others are dogpeople. When choosing which pet is best there are many things to
consider.
The main difference between cats and dogs is their history and background. Before dogs
became pets, they hunted in packs which means dogs now love company. Cats are considered
more of as loners and love to spend time alone. Dogs are known to be as one of the smartest pets
because they are capable of understanding humans and their commands. On the other hand, cats
aren t as social as dogs, it s harder to get them to interact with their owners. Dogs are more likely
to be obedient and ready to be trained, dogs are so smart you can teach them tricks such as to
shake your hand, play frisbee, or even to stand on their hind legs. Cats want no part in learning
anything taught by a human for example: Dogs will come when called whereas cats will stare
because they do not want to respond to directives.. Dogs are also social and enjoy interacting with
people, they can also become very loyal to their owners but cats enjoy being alone and would
rather lay around than learn to do anything. Dogs are

This in my opinion was a very interesting account of American Indian rituals. Lame Deer did a
great job on comparing and contrasting the white folks way of life with his own. He told us how
Indian children are typically never left alone which gives us a better understanding on why he
was so afraid of being alone on the hilltop. I feel like in this story I really got a better
understanding of the Indian way of life. They seem to be very tight knit group who value tradition
above everything. Family seems to be the most important theme as demonstrated by his
grandmothers willingness to cut forty pieces of her own flesh in order to make the rattle. This
whole aspect about them is admirable but at the same time I feel like they don t really take any
actual logic into account. The whole vision determines your life labor seem really fallible in my

these things as im not a Sioux. I do think though that this story can be related into our modern
world in the sense that many kids are pushed into choosing a life career at a relatively young age.

some extent I found admirable that he at such a young age had already known what his life s

fashion was not too different from how it was before, this being a single breasted suit for day

First wind, according to the America Wind Energy Association,
Wind power generated more electricity in 2015 than the combined generation from all sources in
Georgia and Colorado.
Wind power supports 73,000 well paying jobs across all 50 states. Nearly 20,000 American workers
at over 500 factories across 43 states now build wind turbine parts and materials. The DOE s Wind

support 380,000 jobs.
How astounding that by creating turbines, we are able to harness that much electricity. Creating

The Influence Of The Monster In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
What indeed makes one a monster? Is it our physical appearance, our direct or indirect actions,
our secrets? In Frankenstein, Mary Shelley portrays Victor s creation as a monster but
throughout the novel we begin to realize the real monster is Victor, due to his self centered
personality, his abnormal view on life, and the abandonment of his creation to show us society s
perspective on what a monster is, is inaccurate because the social norm can be just as monstrous.
Victor s selfishness is one of the several characteristics that makes him a monster in this novel.
Many casualties in the book were due to Victor even if he was not the actual killer. When the
creature murdered William, Victor still kept his creation a secret. Justine was blamed for the
murder and even when she falsely confessed to being guilty he still did not speak a word about
his invention. The reason that was holding him back from revealing what he had made was he
did not want to look like a fool. This is shown when he says A thousand times rather would I
have confessed myself guilty of the of the crime ascribed to Justine, but I was absent when it was
committed, and such a declaration would have been as the ravings of a madman... (Shelley 83).
Another example of Victor s narcissistic personality is how he used Elizabeth and their wedding
just to lure in the creature. Victor s plan was to give the creature what he wanted which was a
wedding, and when he was close enough, he would shoot him. We

Myelination Essay
Demyelination Areas of high neuroplasticity also tend to be areas of scarce myelination. As
mentioned earlier in this paper, these areas both tend to reside within the evolutionarily new
neocortex. Neocortical areas exhibit an early and brief myelination cycle as compared to older and
deeper brain areas, which exhibit later and extensive myelination. The axons of the neocortex are
long, thin, and sparingly myelinated compared to other regions of the brain, as observed through
Nissl staining. These Nissl stains verify a pattern of myelination in which the highest cortical areas
are the most sparsely myelinated. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the pattern of neural damage, such as
neurofibrillary tangles associated with AD, follows the pattern of myelination. In other words, these
tangles develop in the areas that are most sparsely myelinated. In contrast, areas of heavy
myelination are much more resistant to stressors that cause neuronal degeneration5. It is believed
that areas of decreased myelination are characteristic of cells retained in their juvenile state. Without
the structural encasing of myelin, these cells are more flexible to changes, and thus have higher
plasticity than cells that are heavily myelinated. Therefore, neurons of the neocortex are likely
highly plastic largely because of their lower degree of myelination. In addition to increasing
neuroplasticity, demyelination may provide... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the human brain evolved to encompass higher order functions, this increased cortical activity
lead to increased metabolic demands. Broadly speaking, these heightened metabolic demands
created energetic stressors in the brain, thereby amplifying the negative consequences of synaptic
plasticity and demyelination in the human brain and making it more susceptible to

Broken Windows Theory Research Paper
When a cop wants to illegally enter and search a residence he breaks the window. This gives him
probable cause to investigate and any evidence he turns up becomes miraculously legal.
The idea is that the state has a vested interest in keeping an area attractive because if it has too
many broken windows, it will attract crime. The argument has been used to shut down porn shops
and strip clubs, among other things. It s not a bad idea, but it is open to some pretty loose
interpretation, and the police will push it. Can the police, for example, stop young black or hispanic
men from hanging out on street corners because it might encourage gang attacks? It s tricky.
In short, the broken windows theory says that in a rundown area, such as one with trash, graffiti,
broken windows, etc., there will be more crime because of how it looks. This is in comparison to
an upbeat, clean neighborhood. This relates to policing because more crime may happen in
rundown neighborhoods because criminals may believe the area is cared for or patrolled because
of the looks. The crime rate may be higher. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay on Phantom of the Opera
Phantom of the Opera
In the novel, Phantom of the Opera, by Gaston Leroux, we are introduced to a character known to
everyone as the mysterious Opera Ghost. His character in this book is very complex.
Although the Opera Ghost is very ugly physically and mentally, through his actions, we can find
much beauty.
During the masked ball we are given, what the reader believes at the time, a very good physical
description of the Opera Ghost. At the masked ball the Opera Ghost does a perfect job imitating
death. The Grim Reaper himself must have posed for it, the on looking crowd would comment. But
the hideous thing that he wears upon his head is, in fact, only a mask. ... Show more content on

Erik truly was ugly, not only physically, but mentally.
We are given our first example of Erik s beauty when Raoul is spying on Christine in her dressing
room. He starts to hear a beautiful sound that seems to coming all around him. He sees no one in
the room, but the music starts to get louder and more definite. A voice that unites all extremes at
once, (103), Raoul tells, without knowing of the ugliness of the character from which it comes.
Raoul continues to praise the voice as, heroically sweet..., so delicate in strength, so strong in
delicacy, and so irresistibly triumphant,(103). This clearly shows that, without knowing the physical
ugliness of the Opera Ghost, a body could enjoy his beautiful voice.
Another example of Erik s beauty comes through his love of Christine. At the end of the novel
the Opera Ghost is talking to the Persian. The Persians asks Erik why he decided to spare the live
of himself, as well as the life of his enemy, Viscount Raoul de Chagny. I(Opera Ghost), felt her
tears dropping on my forehead..., I took off my mask and she didn t die..., I then heard her say,
poor, unhappy Erik and from then on I was only a poor dog, (263). I (Erik), told her that she could
marry her young man..., it was like cutting my own heart into little pieces, (264).
Through Erik s selfless

Developing a Performance Appraisal System Essay
Developing a Performance Appraisal System
Michelle D. Howard
The Human Services Administrator
Instructor: Mandy Sargeant
Axia College of University of Phoenix
February 12, 2009
Introduction A performance appraisal is a key element in organization and can be one of the
greatest tools used to record employee production. Organizations can establish their goals and
objectivities, while involving the employees in the process. Conducting a performance appraisal
increases productivity and morale and can prove to be effective in performance production.
Appraisals are a positive way for an employee to know how well they are performing the duties
assigned to them, and an appraisal is a good indicator of how an employee needs to improve ...

The outcome of this appraisal can have a strong impact on the employees self esteem. This
appraisal should in no way demoralize the employee, which would cause an increase of higher
employee turnovers for the organization. Encouraging employees to conduct self performance
appraisals would be great for the employee as well as for the organization. By promoting self
appraisals for the employees, builds a good rapport between the employees and the supervisor or
manager. The employee becomes more familiar with their standards of performance, and will
more often than not work harder to exceed their own standards. When a manger provides
feedback to the employee about the appraisal in a timely manner, the employee can quickly view
his or her shortcomings and begin to improve in the needed areas of work. Feedback must be
timely enough to allow the employee to make the necessary adjustments. Another key element
for a good appraisal system is for the organization to set objectivities to decide what the
organization wants from the employees and have the employee agree with them and also to set
timelines for these objectivities to be met. A good appraisal system will also include ways to
reward the employee for work performed effectively and productively. Pay awards or extra
vacation days are good incentivizes for employees to produce excellent work, but this must not be
overdone

If A Person Gains Personal Enhancement Through Prominence
If a person gains personal enhancement through prominence as an expert in a public controversy,
such prominence may transfer him into a limited purpose public figure. In Gilbert, a well known
plastic surgeon sued one of his patients for establishing a website criticizing unsuccessful surgeries
performed by the surgeon. The court held the surgeon voluntarily thrust himself into the
controversy of plastic surgeryby appearing on local television shows as well as writing articles in
medical journals and beauty magazine, promoting the virtues of plastic surgery. Additionally, the
court held that the surgeon s sought after prominence as an expert in and advocate for plastic
surgery as means of personal enhancement transferred him into a limited... Show more content on

The court held that the president had injected himself into the controversy, and he was a limited
purpose public figure. Moreover, the court held that even though there was a period of time when
the controversy was not discussed publicly, the president s public figure status did not end
spontaneously with the stopping of the publicity. Rather, the public figure status continued as long
as the particular controversy continued.
A company s publication on a public forum with the purpose of influencing a controversy may be
voluntary injection. In Ampex, a former employee posted negative comments about a company on
an Internet message board, accusing his former employer of incompetence and the company s
management of being defective. The company issued press releases in response to the defamation,
and made them available on the company Web site. The court found the company had voluntarily
injected itself into the public controversy, because the Web site was a public forum that the
company frequently made public announcements on it for people to view. Publishing the issued
press releases on a public forum to influence the public opinion and counter the negative comments,
such actions was sufficient to prove the injection, because these actions had inserted the company
into the public s eye about the controversy.

Indian Caste System
The Indian caste system describes the system of social stratification and social restrictions in India
in which social classes are defined by thousands of endogamous hereditary groups, often termed
jДЃtis or castes. Within a jДЃti, there exist exogamous groups known as gotras, the lineage or clan
of an individual. In a handful of sub castes such as Shakadvipi, endogamy within a gotra is
permitted and alternative mechanisms of restricting endogamy are used (e.g. banning endogamy
within a surname).
The Indian caste system involves four castes and outcasted social groups. Although generally
identified with Hinduism, the caste system was also observed among followers of other religions in
the Indian subcontinent, including some groups of Muslims ... Show more content on

Hart stated that the earliest Tamil texts show the existence of what seems definitely to be caste, but
which antedates the Brahmins and the Hindu orthodoxy . He believes that the origins of the caste
system can be seen in the belief system that developed with the agricultural civilization , and was
later profoundly influenced by the Brahmins and the Brahmanical religion . These early Tamil texts
also outline the concept of equality. Saint Valluvar has stated pirapokkum ella uyirkkum , which
means all are equal at birth . Likewise, Saint Auvaiyaar has stated that there are only two castes in
the world: those who contribute negatively and those who contribute positively. From these
statements, it can be inferred that the caste system is a socio economic class system.
[edit] Caste and social status
Traditionally, although the political power lay with the Kshatriyas, historians portrayed the
Brahmins as custodians and interpreters of Dharma, who enjoyed much prestige and many
advantages.[17]
Fa Hien, a Buddhist pilgrim from China, visited India around 400 AD. Only the lot of the Chandals
he found unenviable; outcastes by reason of their degrading work as disposers of dead, they were
universally shunned... But no other section of the population were notably disadvantaged, no other
caste distinctions attracted comment from the Chinese pilgrim, and no oppressive caste

Reasons For Australia s Involvement In The Vietnam War
After World War II in the 20th century, the United States and the Soviet Union were the new
Superpowers . These two major nations had two conflicting political ideologies which were stated
as Capitalism and Communism, and this had Australia right in the middle of the story. Since
Australia has very strong ties with the US, making it even stronger after involving in the Vietnam
War and also grew strong with the SEATO and ANZUS with the fear of the so called domino
theory and the foreign policies which including the Forward Defence Policy. This, however,
allowed Australia to gain a closer chance to go to war in Vietnam. Australia having really strong
ties with the US makes it a nation ruled by Capitalism which made it a huge target... Show more

Vietnam was the first time Australian conscripts were sent abroad in peace time. Many protest
groups, like Save Our Sons, started off as anti conscription, but became anti war as the conflict
dragged on. Many men started to object to national service refusing to register or attend when
called to serve. After 1968, men could be imprisoned for refusing to comply with the National
Service Scheme. By 1969 the anti conscription movement was no longer composed of just mothers
groups and university students. It had widespread support across all sections of Australian society.
Major battles had many people wondering if the Vietnam War was, in fact, winnable and for how
long Australian soldiers were going to be involved. One of the major factors in a growing anti war
movement was the reporting of the Vietnam War; it was a war fought on TV. No one could escape
the horrors of what was happening there. To set a conclusion, this essay shows that Australia feared
the threats of Communist attacks to gain power but since Australia and its allies, US and Britain,
negotiated throughout the conflict and played smart while thinking of the domino theory so they
worked on preventing the enemies troops from gaining access to Australia s Shores, so they fought
in Vietnam to stop the threat having help from South Vietnam and wanted to free the North from
Communist ruling as it already was a Communist

How Media Affects Self Image
Teenage and college women are overly obsessing about their body images and constantly think
that they need to be much skinnier, when they are not even fat. Many women today have the
wrong idea of what the perfect body is, since there is no such thing as a perfect body. Every
person is different and there can be no perfect . Being skinny is not the thing to strive for, but
rather being healthy is. In this decade, women are constantly looking at models, T.V. shows and
Instagram photos of girls that are stick thin, or just very skinny, and they think that this is the way
we as women in society must look. The problem is by excessively looking at these photos or T.V.
shows, women become self conscious, obsessive, unhealthy and simply unhappy.... Show more

Lopez Guimera states, Media are among the principal social agents in many societies around the
world. Television, magazines, newspapers, radio, cinema, advertising, the Internet, and other so
called new media or new technologies occupy if not invade much of our leisure time, and indeed
our working time (Lopez Guimera, 4). If you really think about it, on most occasions, when
Americans have some down time, or a couple of minutes to rest, they quickly turn to the Internet
or television. As for teenage girls, this is what aids in the issue of unhappiness with the body. If
a girl spends up to ten minutes a day on a social media, or networking site, that can lead up to the
viewing of an estimate twenty pictures. Yes, twenty pictures, in only ten minutes. No wonder
why girls have so many things to compare themselves to. One of the worst social media sites for
this issue would be Tumblr, a domain where any user can share and post hundreds of pictures on
to their own page for everyone to view. When searching the words skinny Tumblr on Google,
hundreds of Tumblr pages come up with disturbing names such as, thin to fit in, some day I will
be skinny, skinny size zero, soso skinny, along with many more. The idea of girls

  • 2. The Importance Of Granting Protection And Other Rights The importance of granting protection and other rights to children in general and vulnerable or at risk children in particular needs not to be overemphasized (Council of Australian Governments, 2012). Indeed from time to time, all people in Australia including children have been reminded that they have certain rights which are enshrined in the country s supreme laws (AIHW, 2009). These rights include the right to a safe, happy, and health childhood. Unfortunately for many children in Australia, some of these rights are never or hardly enjoyed. This is especially because many children living in Australia can be said to be living under unsafe conditions (Scott Swain, 2002). Other than safety, a significantly large number of children are known to lead unhappy and unhealthy rights (AIHW, 2011). Essentially, therefore, not all children are actually as protected as they should be. An even larger number of children are at risk of social problems such as neglect, abuse, and foster care. Others are at risk of living with vulnerable families and being deprived of important needs in life. This raises questions regarding the welfare of children and especially how children at risk are being protected. Protecting vulnerable and at risk children is extremely important given the significantly high proportion of such children among the rest of the population (Scott Swain, 2002). It is for this very reason that this essay examines the issue of child protection and children at risk ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Factors Affecting The Environment Of A Watershed Introduction: Environmental issues caused by such human activities as farming, agriculture and infrastructural development can negatively affect the abiotic factors of the local environment. This can disturb water equilibrium and pose implications on the biodiversity of a watershed. Various forms of pollution, including runoff and erosion, can interfere with the health of its aquatic habitats. The purpose of this lab report is to observe to what extent the abiotic factors of Yellow Creek correspond with the health status of its ecosystem. This will be done by comparing the levels of turbidity and acidity and the corresponding level of impairment to four other water streams in the greater Toronto area. Research Question: How can the abiotic factors of a watershed such as acidity and turbidity indicate the health of Yellow Creek? Background information: Abiotic factors are nonliving, physical and chemical aspects of the environment. (Rutherford, 2015) The pH level is a quantitative measure of the hydrogen ions representing the acidity or alkalinity of a water solution. Aquatic life prefer water that has an acidic level of around 6.5 8.5 pH. pH levels higher than 8.5 become highly basic, while pH levels below 6.5 become highly acidic for water quality. This does not allow the species to regulate basic life sustaining processes, primarily the exchanges of respiratory gases and salts within the water in which they live. In his book, McAdams discusses, the events that occurred during Freedom Summer, from murder to harassment. Imagine this; it is 9am, the sun is out and even though the children are playing , but before the day is done, someone will find themselves the winner of the lottery. However, it is not the lottery that most are familiar with. In 1988 author Judy Oppenheimer conducted an interview with author Shirley Jackson, the author of The Lottery. In this interview Shirley explained why she wrote the short storyin the following excerpt ; I hoped, by setting a particularly brutal ancient rite in the present and in my own village to shock the story s readers with a graphic dramatization of the pointless violence and general inhumanity in their own lives (Oppenheimer 1988 ). Author Shirley Jacksonmakes a daunting effort to give the impression of everything in this small town being normal. She writes about some of the children of the story. Her efforts to depict the children doing what children do best, playing, added a simple twist to the story, and that same twist would soon shock the readers once they realize the purpose of the stones the young boys were playing with were actually going to be used to stone someone to death, but not just yet. • 7. Distance Education Essay Distance Education Distance education is a process that creates and provides access to learning when time and distance separate the source of information and the learners (Zhang, 1998, p.1). Distance education defies time and space and can help create a virtual schoolhouse, or a classroom without walls (Wheat, 1998, p.1). The need to take the distance out of education has not been driven largely by sheer need to bridge physical separations. It has been based mainly on providing access as open as possible to those who are willing to avail themselves of the opportunities education affords them (Tam, 1998, p.3). Education needs to reach those who are disadvantaged by location, finance, time, and resources (Tam, 1998, p.3). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Arlene Krebs of New Orbit Communications, we have the third wave [of distance learning], where distance learning is a combination of video and Internet (Hancock, 1999, p.2). However, creators of distance learning tend to worry about how it looks more than being sensitive to what the learner really needs (Hancock, 1999, p.2). What Does the Distance Education Learner Really Need (and where does the instructional technologist come into play)? Distance learning, which is a form of multimedia, depends on a rich interactive environment to foster learning (Hancock, 1999, p.1). The challenge for distance educators is to set up a cognitively rich learning environment to facilitate the distant students construction processes (Zhang, 1998, p.4). Modern distance education is student centered, not teacher centered...distance educators are facilitators of their students education (Markel, 1999, p.3). Learner centric theories focus on the importance of the learner over the instructor to the instructional activity (Leonard, 1999, p.3). The new paradigm [for distance learning] is a more ... This play emphasizes that the Victorian eradid not value sympathy for the underprivileged, responsibility, or even true honesty. Only wealthiness, class status, and style were what the Victorians cared about. An example of this would be when neither Lady Bracknell nor Algernon exhibited much compassion when Bunbury had died. Those pieces of clothing could all be worn to disguise an identity or a face. The fact that Jack is found at the intersection of two lines of trains heading two different places really puts him in an identity crisis. Even though Lady Bracknell has no idea of Jack s original origin, she still tends to look at the negatives and judges him based on his past. But what she does not take into consideration, is that since he was found at Victoria Station, the reader could interpret that his social life would be very successful and eventually hold a very reputable position. Although this idea is foreshadowed by the fact that Jack was found on Brighton Lane, which happens to be the road that leads straight to the richer parts of town. They can stay at the ocean for months and try to sell the fish as fast as possible once they are back on shore. Unsustainable Fishing: this category involves using nets, fishing methods and other sorts of equipment that catch far too much fish. They catch in such a large number that the fish become endangered. Aquinas thinks this for there must be a moral reason to follow a law. Thus, if a law does not have any moral reason for a person to follow the law, the law is unjust. According to Aquinas, a sanction (a punishment) would not be a good enough reason to follow an unjust law. The Fugitive Slave Law goes against the laws of nature. Humans have their own free will and the law of nature never permits one human to claim another human. People are not property and have their own free will. Obviously, morality says people are not possessions. One cannot approach a person and say, I own you. It is not morally justifiable. To Aquinas the Fugitive Slave Law is not a real law for the sake that the law does not follow morality. At the time of the Fugitive Slave Law, people knew slavery was wrong; so, the jurors in Morris did conduct appropriately. As stated before, natural law theory states a law requires morality. The jurors let the emancipators free since the Fugitive Slave Law was against morality and natural law. The jurors did the morally suitable thing through the lens of natural law theory since they were doing what morality said.

Macy and Problems I picked Macy s for my company it was founded in 1843 and 1855 the original Macy s store is in Haverhill, Massachusetts, by Rowland Hussey Macy, Sr. They deal in high quality Clothing, footwear, accessories, bedding, furniture, jewelry, beauty products, and housewares. Macy s has a couple issues, but the biggest one is the dependence on the US economy for its revenue generation, while a few of their competitors, such as The Gap and Wal Mart Stores get a lot of their revenue from other countries, also a lot of customers are not really buying a lot of items in the malls and are doing a lot of internet shopping for Christmas. The use of research would really help Macy s if they researched better ways to attract people through the web by either using surveys, or researching about how some of their competitors can stay ahead in the industry. • 24. The Gap Between Blacks and Whites Test Scores The Gap Between Blacks and Whites Test Scores The gap as referred to in the title, is the distribution of the scores on achievement tests that differ between black and white students in the United States. The purpose of this study was to record the degree of the gap in achievement scores, decide how much of the racial gap is due to social class, how the gap differed in the 30 year period, and how that which is credited to the social class has changed over the years. Differences in social class, family structure, and discrimination against blacks as a disgraced group are all proposed causes for the black white gap in test scores. Answer: The authors compared the degree of the gaps before and after they adjusted for social class. 3. How have the gaps changed over time? Answer: The authors calculated the gaps from data in cross sections over a 30 year period and studied the trend over time. 4. Is the portion of each gap that is independent of social class changing over time? Answer: Yes, the authors contrasted the rate of change over time in the social class adjusted gaps. These surveys give convincing evidence that the gaps have decreased over time, but are still widely spread. The authors conclude that it would take over 50 years to close the gap in reading achievement scores and over a century to close the gap in mathematics and science achievement scores. The adjusted gaps for social class, family structure, and community variables were closing from 1965 1992. At this rate of change over the entire period, they would close in the same amount of time as the unadjusted gaps. The rate of change for the unadjusted gaps seem to have reversed after 1972. These results do not give a lot of support to the theory that the gaps in average test scores are caused by the differences in social class and family structure. Thus, it supports the theory that the gaps in test scores are an outcome of other factors, such as discrimination. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. History of the Evolution of Women s Rights Essay Until the mid 19th century, women were considered possessions of their husbands, and had no control over their money or property. Thanks to the women s right movement, this has all changed and things run a little differently now. Spouses are now equal under the law and property is shared between them. In the common law, all women s property except land and improvements went to her husband and it became under his control. She pretty much had no say in what happened to any of her things. Women were slowly losing all of their rights. If the husband wrote in his will that everything was his and none of it would be given to his wife, then the wife pretty much had no property if the husband died before her. The act didn t take much to pass considering the women had just got their rights. But they were still going through fights and time. They had to get these laws passed because they had things to worry about loosing. For example the main thing they were worried about was not being able to write their own will. Without it they had to worry about not being able to keep the things they owned if their husbands had died or if they were just ignorant and left their wives. If they had children the women had to worry about loosing their kids in the middle of it. Their kids could be sent to somebody that wouldn t be a very good guardian for them. Not only was it messing up the women s lives it was messing up their kids too. The fight for married womens property acts was not as bad as the fight for womens rights. There has been a 750% increase in the amount of migrants going to Greece this year, 63% of which are from Syria . The main issue that arises is over who should take these immigrants into their countries within the EU as there are many plans being drawn up to relocate some of them through a quota system, however not everyone wants this. • 30. The Impact Of Rap Music On Today s Society The impact of rap music in today s society is extremely substantial. Many Americans listen to rap music, even though different rap artist discuss various issues in their songs, it may influences their fans to do the same. A large amount of rap music contains explicit lyrics that describe illegal activities, aggression, and sexual content. Researchers from Iowa State University and the Texas Department of Human Services found that aggressive music lyrics increase aggressive thought and feelings, might perpetuate aggressive behavior and have long term effects (American Psychological Association). Therefore, when Americans listen to rap music with that type of perspective it promotes misogyny, illegal activities and sexual content. Rap music not only describes violence but it exploits females. For example, the song entitled Gold Digger by Kanye West says She take my money when I m in need ,Yea she s a trifling friend indeed ,Oh she s a gold digger way over town, That digs on me not including that the music video shows women dancing provocatively in lingerie as well as posing in sexual positions (Pittsburgh Post Gazette). In Frankenstein, Mary Shelley portrays Victor s creation as a monster but throughout the novel we begin to realize the real monster is Victor, due to his self centered personality, his abnormal view on life, and the abandonment of his creation to show us society s perspective on what a monster is, is inaccurate because the social norm can be just as monstrous. Victor s selfishness is one of the several characteristics that makes him a monster in this novel. Many casualties in the book were due to Victor even if he was not the actual killer. When the creature murdered William, Victor still kept his creation a secret. Justine was blamed for the murder and even when she falsely confessed to being guilty he still did not speak a word about his invention. The reason that was holding him back from revealing what he had made was he did not want to look like a fool. • 42. Myelination Essay Demyelination Areas of high neuroplasticity also tend to be areas of scarce myelination. As mentioned earlier in this paper, these areas both tend to reside within the evolutionarily new neocortex. Neocortical areas exhibit an early and brief myelination cycle as compared to older and deeper brain areas, which exhibit later and extensive myelination. The axons of the neocortex are long, thin, and sparingly myelinated compared to other regions of the brain, as observed through Nissl staining. These Nissl stains verify a pattern of myelination in which the highest cortical areas are the most sparsely myelinated. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the pattern of neural damage, such as neurofibrillary tangles associated with AD, follows the pattern of myelination. In other words, these tangles develop in the areas that are most sparsely myelinated. In contrast, areas of heavy myelination are much more resistant to stressors that cause neuronal degeneration5. It is believed that areas of decreased myelination are characteristic of cells retained in their juvenile state. Without the structural encasing of myelin, these cells are more flexible to changes, and thus have higher plasticity than cells that are heavily myelinated. Therefore, neurons of the neocortex are likely highly plastic largely because of their lower degree of myelination. In addition to increasing neuroplasticity, demyelination may provide... • 45. Broken Windows Theory Research Paper When a cop wants to illegally enter and search a residence he breaks the window. This gives him probable cause to investigate and any evidence he turns up becomes miraculously legal. The idea is that the state has a vested interest in keeping an area attractive because if it has too many broken windows, it will attract crime. The argument has been used to shut down porn shops and strip clubs, among other things. It s not a bad idea, but it is open to some pretty loose interpretation, and the police will push it. Can the police, for example, stop young black or hispanic men from hanging out on street corners because it might encourage gang attacks? It s tricky. In short, the broken windows theory says that in a rundown area, such as one with trash, graffiti, broken windows, etc., there will be more crime because of how it looks. This is in comparison to an upbeat, clean neighborhood. This relates to policing because more crime may happen in rundown neighborhoods because criminals may believe the area is cared for or patrolled because of the looks. The crime rate may be higher. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 46. Essay on Phantom of the Opera Phantom of the Opera In the novel, Phantom of the Opera, by Gaston Leroux, we are introduced to a character known to everyone as the mysterious Opera Ghost. His character in this book is very complex. Although the Opera Ghost is very ugly physically and mentally, through his actions, we can find much beauty. During the masked ball we are given, what the reader believes at the time, a very good physical description of the Opera Ghost. At the masked ball the Opera Ghost does a perfect job imitating death. The Grim Reaper himself must have posed for it, the on looking crowd would comment. But the hideous thing that he wears upon his head is, in fact, only a mask. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Erik truly was ugly, not only physically, but mentally. We are given our first example of Erik s beauty when Raoul is spying on Christine in her dressing room. He starts to hear a beautiful sound that seems to coming all around him. He sees no one in the room, but the music starts to get louder and more definite. A voice that unites all extremes at once, (103), Raoul tells, without knowing of the ugliness of the character from which it comes. Raoul continues to praise the voice as, heroically sweet..., so delicate in strength, so strong in delicacy, and so irresistibly triumphant,(103). This clearly shows that, without knowing the physical ugliness of the Opera Ghost, a body could enjoy his beautiful voice. Another example of Erik s beauty comes through his love of Christine. At the end of the novel the Opera Ghost is talking to the Persian. The Persians asks Erik why he decided to spare the live of himself, as well as the life of his enemy, Viscount Raoul de Chagny. I(Opera Ghost), felt her tears dropping on my forehead..., I took off my mask and she didn t die..., I then heard her say, poor, unhappy Erik and from then on I was only a poor dog, (263). I (Erik), told her that she could marry her young man..., it was like cutting my own heart into little pieces, (264). Through Erik s selfless ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Developing a Performance Appraisal System Essay Developing a Performance Appraisal System Michelle D. Howard The Human Services Administrator Instructor: Mandy Sargeant Axia College of University of Phoenix February 12, 2009 Introduction A performance appraisal is a key element in organization and can be one of the greatest tools used to record employee production. Organizations can establish their goals and objectivities, while involving the employees in the process. Conducting a performance appraisal increases productivity and morale and can prove to be effective in performance production. Appraisals are a positive way for an employee to know how well they are performing the duties assigned to them, and an appraisal is a good indicator of how an employee needs to improve ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The outcome of this appraisal can have a strong impact on the employees self esteem. This appraisal should in no way demoralize the employee, which would cause an increase of higher employee turnovers for the organization. Encouraging employees to conduct self performance appraisals would be great for the employee as well as for the organization. By promoting self appraisals for the employees, builds a good rapport between the employees and the supervisor or manager. The employee becomes more familiar with their standards of performance, and will more often than not work harder to exceed their own standards. When a manger provides feedback to the employee about the appraisal in a timely manner, the employee can quickly view his or her shortcomings and begin to improve in the needed areas of work. Feedback must be timely enough to allow the employee to make the necessary adjustments. Another key element for a good appraisal system is for the organization to set objectivities to decide what the organization wants from the employees and have the employee agree with them and also to set timelines for these objectivities to be met. A good appraisal system will also include ways to reward the employee for work performed effectively and productively. Pay awards or extra vacation days are good incentivizes for employees to produce excellent work, but this must not be overdone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. If A Person Gains Personal Enhancement Through Prominence If a person gains personal enhancement through prominence as an expert in a public controversy, such prominence may transfer him into a limited purpose public figure. In Gilbert, a well known plastic surgeon sued one of his patients for establishing a website criticizing unsuccessful surgeries performed by the surgeon. The court held the surgeon voluntarily thrust himself into the controversy of plastic surgeryby appearing on local television shows as well as writing articles in medical journals and beauty magazine, promoting the virtues of plastic surgery. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The court held that the president had injected himself into the controversy, and he was a limited purpose public figure. Moreover, the court held that even though there was a period of time when the controversy was not discussed publicly, the president s public figure status did not end spontaneously with the stopping of the publicity. Rather, the public figure status continued as long as the particular controversy continued. A company s publication on a public forum with the purpose of influencing a controversy may be voluntary injection. In Ampex, a former employee posted negative comments about a company on an Internet message board, accusing his former employer of incompetence and the company s management of being defective. The company issued press releases in response to the defamation, and made them available on the company Web site. The court found the company had voluntarily injected itself into the public controversy, because the Web site was a public forum that the company frequently made public announcements on it for people to view. Publishing the issued press releases on a public forum to influence the public opinion and counter the negative comments, such actions was sufficient to prove the injection, because these actions had inserted the company into the public s eye about the controversy. • 49. Indian Caste System The Indian caste system describes the system of social stratification and social restrictions in India in which social classes are defined by thousands of endogamous hereditary groups, often termed jДЃtis or castes. Within a jДЃti, there exist exogamous groups known as gotras, the lineage or clan of an individual. In a handful of sub castes such as Shakadvipi, endogamy within a gotra is permitted and alternative mechanisms of restricting endogamy are used (e.g. banning endogamy within a surname). The Indian caste system involves four castes and outcasted social groups. Although generally identified with Hinduism, the caste system was also observed among followers of other religions in the Indian subcontinent, including some groups of Muslims ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hart stated that the earliest Tamil texts show the existence of what seems definitely to be caste, but which antedates the Brahmins and the Hindu orthodoxy . He believes that the origins of the caste system can be seen in the belief system that developed with the agricultural civilization , and was later profoundly influenced by the Brahmins and the Brahmanical religion . These early Tamil texts also outline the concept of equality. Saint Valluvar has stated pirapokkum ella uyirkkum , which means all are equal at birth . Likewise, Saint Auvaiyaar has stated that there are only two castes in the world: those who contribute negatively and those who contribute positively. From these statements, it can be inferred that the caste system is a socio economic class system. [edit] Caste and social status Traditionally, although the political power lay with the Kshatriyas, historians portrayed the Brahmins as custodians and interpreters of Dharma, who enjoyed much prestige and many advantages.[17] Fa Hien, a Buddhist pilgrim from China, visited India around 400 AD. Only the lot of the Chandals he found unenviable; outcastes by reason of their degrading work as disposers of dead, they were universally shunned... But no other section of the population were notably disadvantaged, no other caste distinctions attracted comment from the Chinese pilgrim, and no oppressive caste ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many protest groups, like Save Our Sons, started off as anti conscription, but became anti war as the conflict dragged on. Many men started to object to national service refusing to register or attend when called to serve. After 1968, men could be imprisoned for refusing to comply with the National Service Scheme. By 1969 the anti conscription movement was no longer composed of just mothers groups and university students. It had widespread support across all sections of Australian society. Major battles had many people wondering if the Vietnam War was, in fact, winnable and for how long Australian soldiers were going to be involved. One of the major factors in a growing anti war movement was the reporting of the Vietnam War; it was a war fought on TV. No one could escape the horrors of what was happening there. To set a conclusion, this essay shows that Australia feared the threats of Communist attacks to gain power but since Australia and its allies, US and Britain, negotiated throughout the conflict and played smart while thinking of the domino theory so they worked on preventing the enemies troops from gaining access to Australia s Shores, so they fought in Vietnam to stop the threat having help from South Vietnam and wanted to free the North from Communist ruling as it already was a Communist ...
