Breastfeeding Anthropology
Breastfeeding is an action that is bio cultural and biosocial in nature. Breastfeeding is a biological
process that involves a woman providing milk for an infant. Culturally speaking, breastfeeding is not
always an action by the biological mother. In some cases, the mother needs to return to work not long
after birth. Other times, it is just the cultural norm that other women and children help in the care of a
new baby. Stereotypes and norms surrounding breastfeeding vary cross culturally as well. Socially
speaking, there is an expectation that mothers will breastfeed their offspring. Some people biologically
cannot breastfeed, others cannot breastfeed due to medications, and some women just choose not to
breastfeed.

There is no formal screening associated with being a milk donor, therefore, transmission of disease
and exposure to harmful toxins is possible. The American Academy of Pediatrics only endorses the
used of BDM that have been processed through the Human Milk Banking Association of North
America. 77% of women are aware of the possibility of milk sharing and 25% considered the
possibility of sharing their milk. Only 4% actually shared milk with a friend, family member, or
donated to a milk bank. Milk sharing is growing in popularity due to the medical benefits associated
with breastmilk over formula, but the amount of people who actually participate in milk sharing is
unclear. There is much room for improvement for the process of milk sharing through regulation of
donors and how the breastmilk is

Analysis Of American Pie
Modernism was a 20th century literary movement that depicted a period of uncertainty and disillusion
in the United States. The literary movement was marked by various culture shock caused by events
such as both World Wars and the Vietnam War. Because of such shock, American culture and societal
values changed as society began to focus more on the self and forgo the traditional Victorian values
and virtues of the preceding Romantic era. During this movement, writer sought to write in a way that
better suited the modern world and thus chose to focus on the decay of values and growing alienation
of the individual. Writers and poets began using techniques such as streams of consciousness and
writing with a sense of ambiguity. There was also the poetic movement, imagism during the
Modernism era where poets became increasingly concerned with presenting a simple, clear image to
their readers. Due to his use of modernist techniques and poetic devices such as the adoption of the
stream of consciousness writing style, the use imagery, allusions, and symbolism, Don McLean s
song, American Pie, can be considered a work of modernist poetry. By way of his literary techniques
and poetic devices, McLean is able to take his listeners through a pivotal decade in American history
in just eight and a half minutes; however, it is what makes his lyrics a song that helps build American
Pie s tone and further develop the theme of a generation s early loss of innocence, culture, and values

Langston Hughes Obstacles
Despite the childhood and early life that Langston Hughes faced, he became one of the world s
greatest authors, poets, activists, and Harlem Renaissance leaders. His works reached such a prestige
as to give him awards from institutions such as the NAACP for African American Achievements and a
doctorate from Howard university. Facing oppression and problems as an early child, Langston
Hughes was born into world that was unlikely to set him on the bright path he created for his life. He
began his life on a unique path as he was multi racial being composed of African American, Native
American, and French. Born in 1902 in Joplin, Missouri, Hughes had a rare ethic background living in

extreme poverty and cried out through the form of the Harlem Renaissance. At this time, the Harlem
Renaissance was providing global influence and had spread across the world no longer through just
literature but music, storytelling, and art. The global spotlight in the city of Harlem allowed Hughes to
gain a following and expand his audience across the United States and the globe. The poem Mother to

Hughes book The Weary Blues which was published in 1926 and became one of the spearheads in the

The Origins And Reasons For Transnational Adoption
Transnational Adoption
Transnational adoption the legal transfer of parental rights and responsibilities from a child s birth
parent(s) or other guardian to a new parent (Bureau of Consular Affairs 2017) across national borders
is a widely disputed, yet prevalent practice of the past half century. Statistics indicate that throughout
the past two decades, between five and twenty three thousand children are adopted from foreign
countries by U.S. citizens each year (Bureau of Consular Affairs 2017). Such data should suggest that
this phenomenon produces benefits to parties involved in the transnational adoption process.
To investigate these benefits, it is important to note the origins and reasons for transnational adoption
and their evolvement throughout history. Global conflict in the 20th century resulted in rampant
famine, destitution, and devastation, which naturally increased the number of abandoned and
parentless children. The connection between infertile or childless partners who yearned to be parents
and homeless, abandoned, or institutionalized children was soon established as the practice of
transnational adoption became an increasingly prominent and feasible process. The availability of
prospective adoptees has depended on various developing countries responses to ever changing
political, social, and economic conditions. The establishment of China s one child policy in 1979
partnered with national stigma surrounding female children, increased the number of

What Affects The Rate Of Respiration In Yeast
Background research
All living organisms need to respire in order to stay alive. The process of respiration converts oxygen
and glucose into energy that is required to carry out the cellular biochemical reaction required to
sustain life.
Respiration: 6O2 + C6H12O6 → energy + 6CO2 + 6H2O
Oxygen is one of the reactants necessary for respiration therefore it is essential for all living
organisms. Oxygen is produced through the process of photosynthesis where energy from the sun is
converted into chemical energy in the form of glucose.
Photosynthesis: 6CO2 + 6H2O + sunlight → C6H12O6 + 6O2
All plants photosynthesize to produce glucose, which is stored chemical energy as the plants food can
be converted into energy through respiration for life processes. The rate of photosynthesis has three
main limiting factors carbon dioxide concentration, light intensity ... Show more content on

One example is aquatic life. Animals use up dissolved oxygen to carry out respiration for cellular
processes and bacteria use up oxygen to decompose and break down organic wastes removing oxygen
from the water to breathe. Therefore dissolved oxygen levels are lower when a body of water contains
a lot of decomposing material. Plants also affect dissolved oxygen content as they release oxygen as a
bi product of photosynthesis.
Temperature also affects oxygen content. Warmer water contains less dissolved oxygen than colder
water and therefore oxygen concentration will change throughout the year as the weather and
temperature changes. Another factor affecting oxygen concentration in the turbulence or movement of
a body of water. In a fast moving body of water where the water is constantly moving, bubbles aerate
the water and the dissolved oxygen content is often higher than a still body of water. Dissolved
oxygen concentration is also affected by altitude. At higher altitudes oxygen is not dissolved as easily
due to the higher

Hospitality can be defined as the act of being hospitable to visitors, guests and even strangers. The
industry offers Relaxation, comfort, freedom and entertainment Wagen and Goonetilleke (2011 p9)
note that (Dittmer 2002) defines a hospitable person as a host who receives, welcomes, and caters for
the needs of people temporarily outside the home .
The following case study of Weymouth and Portland looks at the different impacts on the city due to
the development of the hospitality industry. It will look at how the Olympics of 2012 and the world

Private Military Contractors In Vietnam War
In his 1960 Farewell Address, former President Dwight D. Eisenhower brought attention to the
military industrial complex , a term that is used to describe how the government uses private industry
to meet its various demands during war or peace. Since World War I and World War II, the United
States has witnessed a greater connection between the public and private sectors as private industry
pumped out the goods to keep the government and country going. Similarly, there were changes on the
battlefield as now private contractors became common sights. Eventually, the government would call
on private contractors to provide aid on the military battlefield and even fight in some instances. The

Art Therapy And The Creative Process
What is art therapy and does it really work? When one thinks of a therapist and an artist you think of
two vastly different people. With therapy being a scientific, analytical study and art a very free and
creative one, but when the two are combined they create a strong outlet for a lot of youth. Physical and
mental health are very serious matters and are both subjects that children may find hard to talk about.
Traditional therapy in some cases can have good outcomes, but for children it is easier to visualize
their feelings rather that verbally speaking upon them. Children are considered to be visual learners
and traditional therapy does not communicate the same way art therapy can. Many studies have shown
that introducing art therapy into classrooms and hospitals can improve a child s physical and mental
well being. One may still be wondering what is art therapy? to answer that question, here is a
definition Art therapy is the application of the visual arts and the creative process within a therapeutic
relationship, to support, maintain, and improve the psycho social, physical, cognitive and spiritual
health of individuals of all ages. (Malchiodi, C. (2013).). With all this in mind it is hard to believe that
many still do not look at this form of therapy to be taken seriously.
To conduct therapy through art you must have an education behind it considering it is a profession in
mental health . Some think that art therapy can be done by any art

Stereotypes In King Kong
The character of Kong, according to the race reading, independently acts as a semiotic representation
of the white man s perception of black men. The film s narrative takes us to Africa, asks the audience
to embark on an adventure to a land so lost to the modern world that its inhabitants exist side by side
with dinosaurs, which Brian McKay argues to be the most obvious symbol for the perceived primitive
nature of Africa and Blacks (McKay, 2005) The gorilla that they bring back from that island may now
be an icon of popular culture in himself, but before King Kong was released there was another image
of popular social consciousness that he was associated with, which were the disturbingly
dehumanizing cartoons of black people as monkeys popularized ... Show more content on

O Rourke comments that this is one of the primary challenges of the remake of King Kong stating that
the film must offer up a more plausible sexual politics an update to Cooper s archetypal damsel in
distress menaced by a powerful, chest beating simian. (O Rourke, 2005) The initial way in which this
is done is by modernizing the gender role of the Ann Darrow character. While Fay Wray s portrayal
may have been the archetypal damsel in distress in early 20th century cinema, Watts Darrow is more
faithful to the image the post World War II, post Women s Liberation woman. Edelstein applauds this
change, stating that the filmmakers astutely [...] de bimboify Ann Darrow, who s now a vaudeville
performer with a tender regard for an old duffer on the edge of losing what livelihood she has. She s
tempted, but she won t debase herself by doing striptease. She s inspired by the work of Jack Driscoll,
a social dramatist in the Clifford Odets mode. (Edelstein, 2005) When she comes face to face with
Kong she is obviously initially terrified, but in a later scene where he entertains himself by pushing
her to the ground she angrily tells him to stop, which he reluctantly obeys. Watts Ann is a strong,
independent, and intelligent character far more likely to generate empathy amongst a modern female
audience than

Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales
The Canterbury Tales serves as a moral manual in the Middle Ages. In the tales, Geoffrey Chaucer
portrays the problems of the society. For instance, Chaucer uses the monk and the friar in comparison
to the parson to show what the ecclesiastical class are doing versus what they are supposed to be
doing. In other words, it is to make people be aware of these problems. It can be inferred that the
author s main goal is for this literary work to serve as a message to the people along with changing the
society in relation to these problems. The author mentions several issues of the society including how
women are treated. Pertaining to women s role in the society, the Middle Ages was also considered a
patriarchal society which is why in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In other words, women in the Middle Ages wanted independence. In the end, John ends up as a
cuckold, and this is Chaucer s representation of the punishment and consequences of taking away a
woman s rights.
Allison is in the tale itself, but Chaucer also mentions two women in the pilgrims. One of these
women is the Prioress or the Nun. The Prioress is described as a woman who was modest...and coy ,
but despite that, Chaucer uses satire in her description in the prologue. The Prioress is a woman with
sophistication who spoke her French...fluently who also had table manners with never a driblet fell
upon her breast (Chaucer 4 5). Along with those characteristics, she is also charitable and piteous
caring for mouse that is caught in a trap, and she feeds dogs too (Chaucer 5). The Prioress can be
analyzed in two ways: one with the society s perception of women and one as an issue of the church
class. In the society s viewpoint, she can be seen as a woman who cared for things that are not worth
caring about. This is also another example of Chaucer s use of his literary work to show the issues of
society pertaining women. The Prioress might be high in society who went to a school in Stratford at
the Bow , but she is also a woman affected by the gender stereotypes of the Middle Ages (Chaucer 5).
Besides the Prioress, another woman that is also in the pilgrim is the Wife of Bath.

Camp Glen Arden Ethnography Analysis
Summer camp is a tradition that the women in my family have participated in since my mom was a
little girl. In the mountains of North Carolina lies a very special place to me, my mom and my little
sister. This place is called Camp Glen Arden and it is my home away from home. There are many
special traditions within Camp Glen Arden, so that is why I chose it to be the topic of my ethnography.
To start, for the nine years I ve attended camp there hasn t been any change, maybe the food but that s
it. Since I m on the topic of food, every camper and staff member wears navy collared shirts and navy
shorts to dinner. The collared shirts are worn so that we can wear our ties that represent what clan

This tradition has gone on since camp was founded in 1951. Some examples of these competitions are;

clan wins one of the events they get points. At the end of camp, the winner is announced when the
camp director unrolls a banner with the colors of the clan who won. My camp has a special way of
demonstrating reciprocity. We celebrate Christmas in July by drawing names out of a bowl that
includes anyone that is part of camp, including the directors and kitchen staff. Once you get the name,
you make them a very special and personal gift to give to them Christmas morning . The type of
reciprocity demonstrated is generalized because once the gift is given, the giver doesn t expect
anything back except for a hug and a thank you. These moments are so full of kindness and are really
great to watch because they demonstrate the caring mentality that everyone at camp

Inequality In Plato s Phaedo
Reconstruction
Importantly, one needs to recall that Plato holds the human is a union of two distinct entities body and
soul he considers death to be their separation. In Phaedo, he expressly uses our notion of equality to
illustrate the way in which humans recollect knowledge (as Socrates recollection theory of knowledge
holds). His his argument from recollection posits that the soul immortal.
When we (humans) perceive sensible things that are equal in the world, we see these as deficient in
their equality. (74d 74e)
Equal things (which we perceive) and Equality itself are not the same. (74b 74c)
When we see the deficiency in perceived equality, it prompts us to recollect Equality itself. (74c 74d)
Knowledge of Equality itself ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He says these perceptions are deficient, as sensible things suffer from the compresence of opposites
being both F and not F (e.g., equal and unequal) in different respects, or compared to different things.
Plato refers to a stick as an example of a sensible thing. For premise 1, imagine we have three sticks,
the first two are the same length and the third is shorter in length. So, we can say the first two are
equal to one another (in length) and both are not equal to the third stick. Therefore, sticks cannot be
equal full stop, but are equal to one stick and unequal to the other stick. This is the case for all things,
they are both F and not F when compared to different things or objects. Just as Helen of Troy will be
more beautiful compared to some women and less beautiful compared to other women. So, this
deficiency shows there is a distinction between F and F ness, (e.g., equal sticks and Equality itself). In
essence, our perceived knowledge of equal things and objects are distinct from Equality itself, in
premise 2. He says, We say that there is something that is equal. I do not mean a stick equal to a stick
or stone equal to a stone...but something else beyond all of these, the Equal itself.

Concord Hymn Analysis
The Battles of Lexington and Concord were the initial battles of the Revolutionary War. Events
leading up to the first battles of the Revolutionary War such as the Tea Act, The Boston Tea Party, and
the Intolerable Acts all played a significant role in setting the scene for the Revolutionary War. In the
battles of Lexington and Concord Britain discovered that the tenacity of the Americans would not so
easily be silenced. Hundreds of British troops, estimated to be around seven hundred, marched from
Boston to Lexington on the evening of April 18, 1775, with secret orders to capture any weapons
available to the American militia. Thanks to the efforts of Paul Revere and William Dawes, who rode
from Boston to Lexington in the middle of the night, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ralph Waldo Emerson s poem, Concord Hymn supports that the first shot was fired at the North
bridge in Concord, Massachusetts. The first stanza of the Concord Hymn is, By the rude bridge that
arched the flood, Their flag to April s breeze unfurled, Here once the embattled farmers stood, And
fired the shot heard round the world (Emerson). Although Emerson suggests that it was in Concord
where the shot heard around the world was fired, descendants of the towns Lexington and Concord
still debate this fact today. Tensions had been building for many years between residents of the 13
American colonies and the British authorities, particularly in Massachusetts (History). On Wednesday,
April 19, 1775 at the village green in the village of Lexington in Middlesex County, Province of
Massachusetts Bay, Captain John Parker and around 60 militia men many of the men being related to
Parker faced off against 240 Redcoats under General Gage s command. John Parker was a farmer and
had previously fought alongside the British. The militia men were not near as well trained or well
equipped as the British regulars. There were over one hundred onlookers at the battle of Lexington.
Both John Parker s militia men and Gage s Redcoats were under orders to hold their fire. Nobody is
exactly sure who fired the first shot at Lexington; some people believe that it could have been a
spectator. Regardless of who fired the first shot, shots were exchanged by Captain Parker and General
Gage s men, and the Revolutionary War had begun. After the musket smoke cleared, 8 Americans lay
dead with little to no casualties to the British. The American militia retreated to the town of Concord
where the second battle of the Revolutionary War would soon take

Piccasso s Life
In regard to his artistic gift, Piccasso s early life was both promising and disheartening. It was
promising because Picasso was a son of an artist, though not as talented, he was an important facet in
developing Picasso s gift by providing the necessary tools to harness it. Additionally,
His sister Lola, three years younger, challenged him to create drawings, requesting, for example, that
he draw a dog or a donkey, beginning from any body part such as an ear or a paw (Blum 268).
The drawing challenges the sister gave enabled Picasso to have better mastery of the canvas and to
draw from different angles. The author suggests that his sister was key to developing his versatility of
spatial repositioning of his art. However, in a negative twist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

One can hardly understand the mystery in painting drawings that imply blindness in matters presented
in the artwork bearing in mind that Picasso was an artist who had the sense of sight (Blum 275).
However, The blind figures tend to evoke compassion, pity, and sadness, and perhaps reassure the
spectators that they do not share in this misfortune. Yet all art has elements of ambiguity, and each
spectator has a personal perception and response that may change with each exposure to the work of
art (Blum 275). Blindness symbolizes desperation and misfortune since it is not a standard feature for
everyone hence Picasso finds it fascinating to deliver his message of self pity and sadness in a manner
that captures the attention of the spectator. However, the author presumes that Picasso may have
unconsciously developed a failure attitude, which led him to use the theme of blindness to evoke the
compassion of his spectators enabling him to triumph the period of limited appreciation. Consistently,
The old Guitarist is bent over his instrument, immersed in the auditory sphere of music, a rhapsody in
blue , so important for the blind (Blum 281). Picasso precociously outlines the importance of other
sensory perceptions, such as hearing, to complement blindness and that is why the old Guitarists bends
to make out the audio tune of his music.

The slaters, like other animals have specific requirements that need to meet for optimal biological
functioning. The slaters behavioural and physiological response is to its condition of the environment
it is in. The slaters are very easy animals to find. Slaters can be found in dark, damp, sheltered places
in almost any kind of environment. They can be also found in places like compost bins, forest
grounds, leaf litter, in rotting wood, under tree bark, under animal carcasses, under brick and rocks.
During the day they spend their time under shelters, and at night they come out and search for food. If
the slaters were exposed to light, when they were under their shelter, they would try to escape the
light, but they aren t fast runners. Slaters are very sensitive to light exposure, as they can desiccate.
Slaters are not harmful, nor do they bite.
Temperature and pH of their environment is very important, as because it determines their rate of
growth and reproductive potential, if the factors are outside their optimum range it can limit the slaters
survival rate. They tend to reproduce, as well as grow faster when there is food accessibility and
temperatures are optimal. The slaters endurance is also highly linked to levels of soil bacteria, nitrogen
to carbon ration of soil, and also leaf toughness.
Slaters have a very important role in the ecosystem, especially of the soils; because they help

The Record Of Praxis Experience
Record Of Praxis Experience:
Introduction$
It is my belief that no matter how arduous a problem there always exists a solution to that problem and
it is the essence of great engineering design to keep on striving for more efficient and effective
solution no matter how great the present design may be as there is no limit on the number of ways
current engineering design can be improved. Throughout this RoPE is a reflection of my numerous
engineering design endeavors and how each experience contributed to my current definition of
engineering design.

Our design brief was about developing a product, which would promote autonomous play outdoors, a
key factor in a child s social, emotional and physical. It layed out parameters for the design of a
product to assuage parental fears and encourage outdoor play. I played a major part in the iterative
process and the stages of brainstorming involving diverging and finally the selection of the product
alongside my teammates. This experience enhanced my ability to examine any situation and reframe it
by concentrating on the problem from the viewpoint of the major stake holders, which is a vital step in
the engineering design process. Reframing can be deployed as a means to restrain designers or guide
them to focus on particular attributes by providing them with criteria and constraints.

Vanity In Pride And Prejudice
Solomon was known as the smartest and wisest man in the world. He became a king of Israel, and
decided that he was going to figure out where happiness is found. He thought that money might be
able to make him happy, so he became the richest man in the world, but he was unsuccessful in his
pursuit of happiness. He then tried alcohol and women, but he was still unsuccessful. By the end of his
pursuit, he eventually determined that happiness could not be found in possessions and money, or any
earthly pleasure. For people in modern times, possessions and wealth are often what guide
relationships the modern life in general. People who put value in material wealth will struggle and
struggle all their lives, but will never be able to find true happiness. Literature and entertainment
provides countless examples of the truth of this statement. For much of their lives, Fitzwilliam Darcy
and Charlie Babbitt show only pride and love for their money and possessions, and until they met the
people who eventually be the most important to them, they weren t able to truly experience love and
redemption from their vain lifestyles.
In both Pride and Prejudice and Rain Man, Charlie and Mr. Darcy show traits of excessive pride and
vanity when they find self worth in their money and social status. When Charlie originally decides he
is going to take Raymond back to Los Angeles from Cincinnati, he is trying to use Ray as leverage so
that he can get his share of his recently passed father s

Nanking Massacre
In the chapter of Allies and Enemies In the Asia Pacific War (1937 45) in the book Making of the
Rape of Nanking by Yoshida Tadashi, Yoshida illustrated the change of attitude of Chinese
government toward the Nanking Massacre in 1938 during the League of Nations in Geneva. He
argued Because China s principal appeal at the League of Nations was to European powers that could
recall gas and air attacks from World War I, it made sense to emphasize similar current assaults by the
Japanese military (36), that the Chinese government condemned the usage of gas weapons and air

Wellington Koo, the delegate of Republic of China put Nanking Massacre at the central evidence of
his speech, depicting the miserable state of Chinese civilians to condemn Japan and to call for the aid
of other countries. However his argument was not rewarded with the attention of other countries,
which made him and the government to give up using Nanking Massacre as the example of Japanese
atrocity.
The second one is the Europe having enduring the calamity of chemical weapons during World War I

The power of one has gone too far Many presidents have abused their power to do non helpful things

President have a minimum amount of power to run our country.
Those who disagree claim that the president should have all the power to make decision that are hard

These last few years we ve seen an unacceptable abuse of power at home, Obama said in an October

By the time the Watergate scandal forced Nixon to resign, the office was being weakened. Congress
passed the War Powers Act of 1973 to control the president s military powers; a year later, the
Congressional Budget and Impoundment Control Act rejected the president s authority to withhold
spending. And the Supreme Court s decision in United States v. Nixon (1974) requiring him to turn
over the Watergate tapes to a special prosecutor put judicial teeth behind the truism that whatever his
powers the president was not above the law (Jost).
Also, many presidents have abused their presidential power when they serve their terms.
Congress and the supreme court think that the president and his followers have too much power. With
the power that they have they can hide anything that they do. They can hide things that they have done

The way which the actions resulting from Upton Sinclair Jungle believable and authentic human
responses to a conflict are its exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution.
1) The exposition information the writer had to get into the story at the outset in order to set out a
dramatic situation that solicits the audience s empathetic involvement in chapter 2 was the background
information regarding the setting, characters, and plots. Readers get a glimpse of the life Jurgis and
Ona left behind in Lithuania and of their difficult journey to Chicago. To illustrate, Jurgis a young big
man in demand have live in the states for four months. He has never been in a city as he set out to
make a living for him and his future bride. Juries wanted to buy his future bride from her father but
refused because her daughter was not to be bargain. Only when Ona the future bride father died would
Jurgis and Ona along with her relatives move to the states. Thus, Jurgis had the American dream in his

The Ethics And Legal Implications Of The Internal Revenue...
The complexity of the Internal Revenue Code has been the source of genuine concern, standup jokes,
and political theater for years, but its greatest effect on practitioners of tax is to create a myriad of
complicated gray areas and thorny questions that are not quickly resolved to a neat yes or no answer.
This ambiguity has resulted in a situation where the ethical and legal implications of tax practice are
serious considerations for any professional who is engaging in this line of work.
Since 1881, U.S.C. 31 has regulated who can represent other people to the Treasury Department,
which encompasses the IRS. This representation, called practice before the IRS, includes not just
representation in court, but also all forms of communication on behalf of the taxpayer, including
written documentation, phone calls, and interviews. From the beginning, the qualities required to
practice before the IRS were good character, good reputation, competence and qualifications ( Beyond
the Basics. ) Today, those practicing tax or intending to do so need to be aware of a long list of
standards and requirements in order to be compliant with both the IRS, as outlined in Circular 230,
and the standards of the profession as outlined by the AICPA in Statements of Standards for Tax
Services.
Circular 230 covers an extensive list of the requirements, laid out in multiple sections of the Internal
Revenue Code, of being in compliance as a tax preparer and representative before the IRS, from

Nurse Ratched Character Analysis
Individuals are being emasculated and mistreated by woman throughout their journey. Emasculation is
intertwined with societal expectation throughout the novel such as when men arrive at the ward. Why
then, I ll just explain it to you. McMurphy raises his voice; though he doesn t look at the other Acutes
listening behind him, it s them he s talking to. The flock gets sight of a spot of blood on some chicken
and they all go to peckin at it, see... (Kesey 51). In this quote, McMurphy distinguishes the key factors
and clues that the nurse is controlling the men in their institution by forcing them to turn upon each
other. She services them to reveal things that shame them to one another. Nurse Ratched is using the
men s secrets to turn them against each other, showing she is mistreating the men and this action really
strips the men on their masculine rights. Many of the men got threatening by Nurse Ratched, and some
where more extreme than others, leading to terrible outcomes. Billy and the girl had climbed around to
the bow and were talking and looking down in the water (Kesey 213) . Billy Ribbit feels emasculated
because of Nurse Ratched is threatening him into telling his mother about the situation with Candy.

Protein In Sports
Proteins are organic and complex compounds made of several amino acids that are linked and cross
linked by the chains of peptide; hydrogen, van der Waals and the sulfhydryl forces respectively.
Among the biologically active compounds, proteins are made of varied chemical compounds. Proteins
can be grouped as simple proteins, conjugated proteins, and the derived proteins (Rodriguez, 2009).
Simple proteins yield amino acids and fewer carbohydrates when hydrolyzed. Examples of these
proteins include albuminoids, histones, albumins, glutelins, histones, globulins, and protamines.
Conjugated proteins are the simpler proteins that are combined to non protein compounds in the body.

Branched chain amino acids helps in maintaining the flow of the protein to the muscles. This will help
in reducing the loss of the muscles during the training and improve the synthesis of protein. Branched

Importance of protein anabolism and catabolism in muscle building activities Anabolism is the
successive chemical reactions that synthesize smaller molecules into larger compounds through the
energy absorption. Catabolism is the chemical breakdown of complex molecules to smaller molecules
through the release of energy (Ramsey, 2002). The growth of the muscle depends on the continuous
balance of catabolism and anabolism. The synthesis of the muscles is made possible through
production of cortisol, a catabolic hormone from endocrine system. The process of catabolism assist in
the provision of energy required for the exercises that helps in the building of the body (Ramsey,

A Jazz Concert Review
First off the performance was amazing. It was held at the auditorium in building six, and it was called

they played six songs; they started off with Latin Dance which was a very upbeat song really started
off the concert right. After that we had Misty , a song were they introduced are first vocalist(Valeria
Vargas) which was the main star along side a alto sax(Kevin Forte). Then came Lady Bird which was
pure instrumental. In continuation we have my old flame which introduces a new vocalist (Jenna
Gunter). After that we get the look of love which is another vocal jazz piece with another vocalist

But I was astonished on how captivating the performance was. Starting off with Latin Dance I was sad
at first that they didn t have any Latin dancers dancing. Furthermore Latin Dance had an amazing
upbeat tempo to it throughout the whole song, in addition to being very catchy and I found it hard not
to tap my foot with the beat. This song had a lot of soloist, from all the saxophones to the drummer
(Bryan Ocampo) and even the percussion (Josh Nunez). I was fascinated when I heard Bryan Ocampo
(drummer) hitting the ride cymbal creating a ride rhythm and felt that I could appreciate that since I
have learned it in Jazz Pop. What I really enjoyed about this song is that most of the band members
had a turn to solo, giving them a chance to show what they got. The first solo was tenor sax solo
(William Perez) which was good and had pauses between notes and then increased to a faster pace.
Next solo was by Kevin Forte (Alto Sax) which was my favorite solo and the longest solo out of all
the saxophones. Kevin Forte really took the audients by storm with his fast pace catchy and overall
great solo. The last soloist was an older gentleman (which I can t seem to find the name of in the
directory) which was also great but in my opinion, but didn t bring that fresh sound that the younger
kids brought. After that we had another amazing solo that blow me away by the drummer (Bryan
Occampo) which had a seemingly flawless transition. In the solo the drummer had a good beat and
seemed to be improving. This was my second favorite solo after the alto sax since my favorite genre
of music is rock I always appreciate a good drummer solo. Also after the concert I went up to the
drummer and was surprised on how nice everyone actually was. Last solo was from the percussion
Congas (Josh Nunez) that I usually don t see in jazz bands but

How To Raise The Red Lantern
Zhang Yimou s Raise the Red Lantern was released in 1991 to immediate critical acclaim, despite
being banned in China until mid 1992. Set in China in the 1920s, the film tells the story of Songlian,
played by Gong Li, a young woman who has become the fourth concubine of the Chen clan master. In
constructing the trailer for his film, Zhang uses six sequences to establish three main genres:
melodrama, the spy film, and horror. This essay will discuss how the formal elements within each
sequence relate to a specific genre and why this helps to advertise the film to a wide audience base,
whilst reflecting on the connection between the trailer and the film as a whole.

In the sequences Conspiracy and Murder , Songlian witnesses the abduction and death of Meishan,
leaving the audience with a hunger to find out how the film led up to this dramatic moment.
Conspiracy begins with a close up of Songlian as she examines the padlock which secures the door of
a windowless room, depicting her as a spy like figure who is looking to unearth the secrets of the
house. As she pushes the door slightly ajar the camera tilts downwards, revealing a rope and strange
debris which lie on the floor of the room. In terms of the film as a whole, the props revealed in this
shot aptly foreshadow Meishan s hanging, yet this is done in a subtle manner which maintains the
viewer s curiosity. The sequence then cuts to a shot showing Meishan, as the male servants seize her
during the night. This shot establishes the concept of good versus evil which is a vital element of the
spy film, as we see a good character being captured by the enemy. To enhance the viewer s perception
of this idea, costume and props are given symbolic power, which reveals the film s elaborate handling
of mise en scène. Meishan s white clothes, signifying her innocence, are contrasted with the black
clothes of the servants, which characterises them as an oppressive force. Furthermore, we begin to
view the lanterns as a symbol of inherent evil, as they surround Meishan whilst she struggles to escape

Personal Narrative about Skiing Essay
The coat of armor I adorned, made of down feathers and a nylon shell, yielded no protection against
the daggers of that cold winter air. As I peered out toward the horizon, I saw nothing but tree tops, and
some snow capped mountain tops in the distance. With my feet bound to freshly waxed skis, the only
thing stronger than my ski poles was my determination to get down the mountain.
I turned to my right, only to see the immediate drop off of the ski slope. As I crept up a little closer to
the edge, I noticed an incline that before now was only known to me through pictures of cliff diving,
or an exaggerated road runner and coyote cartoon.
With a deep breath of that icy cold air that seemed endless at the time, I pushed myself off the ... Show

confusion that I can only describe as the look of a deer in the headlights, I twisted my body to the right
in hopes to avoid the oncoming danger, that devil dressed in the needles of a blue spruce.
As my upper body shifted to the right, everything from my waist and below stayed true to the course,
including the ski poles. I ran over the handle of my ski pole, with my stomach. The pole was pushed
up into my lower abdomen, propelling me off of the slope entirely, I was airborne. I landed on my
back, completely out breath, and dazed to the point I had no recollection of where I was. The next
moment was particularly scary for me, all I can recall was the ringing of a whistle in my ear, and the
red lights flashing from the ski patrols snowmobiles. Unsure of any injuries, the ski patrol had braced
my back and neck, strapped me to a board, and began to tow me down the mountain.
I spent the next three hours in the lodge under the watchful eye of a very pleasant paramedic, who

Al-Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden
Osama bin Laden founded al Qaeda in 1988 with the goal to rid Muslims countries of western
influences and replace their governments with Islamic regimes. Born in an extraordinarily wealthy
family, Osama bin Laden used his family s money to found the terroristic organization. Abdullah
Yusus Azzam was an influential Palestinian Sunni Islamic scholar who mentored bin Laden and
persuaded him to come to Afghanistan. The main goals of al Qaeda are to: spread Islam through the
world with or without the consent of the occupants, destroy Israel and it s affiliates, terrorize the
United States of America, financially bleed the United States, and fight to defend the rights of
Muslims. The organization s numerous attacks against the United States, and all of humanity (except
the Muslims) have changed the world s perception of terrorism. There are numerous religious
affiliates of al Qaeda, some of which include, Sunni Islamism, Takfirism, and Qutbism. There are very
few supporters of al Qaeda s beliefs and actions. Osama bin Laden issued a fatwa, a ruling point of
Islamic law given by a recognized authority, which eventually amounted to a public declaration of war
against the United States and its allies. There is a tremendous amount of confusion about the
connections between the Taliban and al Qaeda. Although the two have ties, they are completely
separate and distinct groups who have different goals. Starting in the late 1980s, an international

The Importance Of Interracial Relationships
Over the years, interracial relationships and marriages have become more common. In fact, the United
States Supreme Court legalized interracial marriages in 1967. New polls show that high numbers of
whites are marrying the blacks. These marriages have become more popular among the recent
generations. It is your granddaughter, ReAnna Reynolds, and I am writing this because it is an issue
that affects me personally. You do not accept interracial relationships. That is troubling to me because
my boyfriend of four years is a black man. You both should accept non blacks marrying blacks
because it is becoming more common, I am in a biracial relationship, and I long for your approval.
Interracial relationships/marriages have increased substantially in America over the past few years.
While black families tend to be more accepting of the interracial relationships and white partner, white
families are more reluctant to accept the mix of white and black races. In 2010, there were a total of
390,000 couples that consisted of a black husband and white wife. One large reason why people tend
to not agree with interracial relationships is because of the mental abuse and bullying towards biracial
children. However, the majority of people who ever speak their opinions on mixed children are ones
from the older generation. This is alarming to me due to my future children being biracial. I am a

time in a teen s life. It s all focused on preparing you for the outside world and if we didn t have
people like Mr. Campbell, students wouldn t have as much motivation as they do to do well and
graduate. I also chose to interview him simply because I knew he would tell me everything I would
need to know and more! The first couple of questions that were asked was just the simple stuff, such
as; what degree(s) were obtained, how and why this field was chosen and to describe his current job.
He started off by explaining what he does as a whole. We already know that he s a school counselor,
however, he s so much more than just that. He shared that there are three different branches of
counseling he works with. Academic, which is just making sure students pick the right classes. Career,
which is helping students pick a career showing what they need in order to make that dream happen.
Also, he helps individuals socially and personally, like many counselors do. Mr. Campbell has a B.S.
degree in psychology and also a Masters in school counseling. He also informed me that he is a

Harley-Davidson a Fortune 500 Company
Harley Davidson: Fortune 500 Company The Hogs, Inc. David Deubner Yvonne James Sandra Jones
Giovanni Legaspi Julie Orton Florida State College at Jacksonville MAN3240 October 21, 2009 The
history of Harley Davidson is an incredible story of four young men in Milwaukee, who experimented
with internal combustion in a 10x15 little shed with the words Harley Davidson Motor Company
inscribed on the front. Not only did they not burn down the shed but they created a business that
thrives strong even today. William S. Harley, age 21, completed his first blueprint drawing of an
engine designed to fit into a bicycle in the year 1901. By 1903 William Harley and Arthur Davidson
developed a one cylinder motorcycle that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Harley could survive and prosper only if every employee took responsibility for leading the company.
Harley Davidson thought that too often, corporations attempt to take solutions to their employees,
rather than work with employees to solve a problem. Harley Davidson is an action oriented,
international company; A leader in its commitment to continuously improve the quality of profitable
relationships with all of its stakeholders, Harley Davidson believes the key to its success is to balance
stakeholder interest through the empowerment of its employees to focus on value added activities. (_
More__ Than a Motorcycle: The Leadership Journey at Harley Davidson)_. Harley decided that if
they wanted to provide people with greater responsibility and authority they had to reduce the
hierarchy. The philosophy behind the circle organization was to get the right people together at the
right time to do the work right. They wanted teamwork without the teams and the idea of natural work
groups emerged. This circle organization is based around the core processes at Harley to create
demand, produce products, and provide support which are depicted by three interlocking circles. This
is a more accurate representation of the shared leadership and cross functionality at work in Harley
Davidson. People who had historically taken their ideas, work products, problems, and complaints up
the organization were now encouraged to work with the right people to

Bartleby the Autistic Scrivener Essay
Herman Melville s short story Bartleby the Scrivener is about a lawyer who hires a copyist, named
Bartleby, who politely refuses to not work. While most employers would not tolerate an employee
who continually prefers to do less work, this lawyer finds it hard to dismiss or discipline his scrivener
and allows his insubordination to go on for an extended period of time. Bartleby shows great
acquisition at copying documents and works diligently all day and night. The lawyer soon discovers
that Bartleby has begun to reside in his office and never leaves. After only a few days of working
there, he expresses his preference to not aid in group read outs of the papers copied, a common
scrivener duty. When asked to do simple tasks he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bartleby exhibits strong similarities with patients diagnosed as autistic in today s medical community.
Bartleby demonstrates the ability to work well when given strict structural guidelines. A main job of
the scrivener is to copy documents. Upon hiring Bartleby, the lawyer states he did an extraordinary
quantity of writing but it was done silently, palely, mechanically (Melville 2368). Studies have shown
that adults with autism possess the ability to be self sufficient members of society given certain
circumstances. Even though they may lack street smarts, they are capable of attaining their
independence by choosing highly structured and regimented life routines (Klin 345). Copying
documents is a highly structured occupation and requires no need for logical or interpretative skills,
which is why he can do this job so well. Not much is known about Bartleby s previous employment,
except that it is rumored that he worked for the dead letter office for the United States Postal Service.
The dead letter office is where the undeliverable and nonreturnable mail is sent to either be destroyed
or sold at auction. Again, this form of employment would appear to be highly structural and would not
require dianoetic or analytical skills. However, when asked to do other things around the office, even
though it is a common job requirement, he responds that he prefer not to (Melville 2369). Even after

  • 2. Breastfeeding Anthropology Breastfeeding is an action that is bio cultural and biosocial in nature. Breastfeeding is a biological process that involves a woman providing milk for an infant. Culturally speaking, breastfeeding is not always an action by the biological mother. In some cases, the mother needs to return to work not long after birth. Other times, it is just the cultural norm that other women and children help in the care of a new baby. Stereotypes and norms surrounding breastfeeding vary cross culturally as well. • 4. Analysis Of American Pie Modernism was a 20th century literary movement that depicted a period of uncertainty and disillusion in the United States. The literary movement was marked by various culture shock caused by events such as both World Wars and the Vietnam War. Because of such shock, American culture and societal values changed as society began to focus more on the self and forgo the traditional Victorian values and virtues of the preceding Romantic era. During this movement, writer sought to write in a way that better suited the modern world and thus chose to focus on the decay of values and growing alienation of the individual. Writers and poets began using techniques such as streams of consciousness and writing with a sense of ambiguity. There was also the poetic movement, imagism during the Modernism era where poets became increasingly concerned with presenting a simple, clear image to their readers. Due to his use of modernist techniques and poetic devices such as the adoption of the stream of consciousness writing style, the use imagery, allusions, and symbolism, Don McLean s song, American Pie, can be considered a work of modernist poetry. By way of his literary techniques and poetic devices, McLean is able to take his listeners through a pivotal decade in American history in just eight and a half minutes; however, it is what makes his lyrics a song that helps build American Pie s tone and further develop the theme of a generation s early loss of innocence, culture, and values that ... The Origins And Reasons For Transnational Adoption Transnational Adoption Transnational adoption the legal transfer of parental rights and responsibilities from a child s birth parent(s) or other guardian to a new parent (Bureau of Consular Affairs 2017) across national borders is a widely disputed, yet prevalent practice of the past half century. Statistics indicate that throughout the past two decades, between five and twenty three thousand children are adopted from foreign countries by U.S. citizens each year (Bureau of Consular Affairs 2017). Such data should suggest that this phenomenon produces benefits to parties involved in the transnational adoption process. To investigate these benefits, it is important to note the origins and reasons for transnational adoption and their evolvement throughout history. Global conflict in the 20th century resulted in rampant famine, destitution, and devastation, which naturally increased the number of abandoned and parentless children. The connection between infertile or childless partners who yearned to be parents and homeless, abandoned, or institutionalized children was soon established as the practice of transnational adoption became an increasingly prominent and feasible process. The availability of prospective adoptees has depended on various developing countries responses to ever changing political, social, and economic conditions. • 9. What Affects The Rate Of Respiration In Yeast Background research All living organisms need to respire in order to stay alive. The process of respiration converts oxygen and glucose into energy that is required to carry out the cellular biochemical reaction required to sustain life. Respiration: 6O2 + C6H12O6 → energy + 6CO2 + 6H2O Oxygen is one of the reactants necessary for respiration therefore it is essential for all living organisms. Oxygen is produced through the process of photosynthesis where energy from the sun is converted into chemical energy in the form of glucose. Photosynthesis: 6CO2 + 6H2O + sunlight → C6H12O6 + 6O2 All plants photosynthesize to produce glucose, which is stored chemical energy as the plants food can be converted into energy through respiration for life processes. The rate of photosynthesis has three main limiting factors carbon dioxide concentration, light intensity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One example is aquatic life. Animals use up dissolved oxygen to carry out respiration for cellular processes and bacteria use up oxygen to decompose and break down organic wastes removing oxygen from the water to breathe. Therefore dissolved oxygen levels are lower when a body of water contains a lot of decomposing material. Plants also affect dissolved oxygen content as they release oxygen as a bi product of photosynthesis. Temperature also affects oxygen content. Warmer water contains less dissolved oxygen than colder water and therefore oxygen concentration will change throughout the year as the weather and temperature changes. Another factor affecting oxygen concentration in the turbulence or movement of a body of water. In a fast moving body of water where the water is constantly moving, bubbles aerate the water and the dissolved oxygen content is often higher than a still body of water. Dissolved oxygen concentration is also affected by altitude. At higher altitudes oxygen is not dissolved as easily due to the higher ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With therapy being a scientific, analytical study and art a very free and creative one, but when the two are combined they create a strong outlet for a lot of youth. Physical and mental health are very serious matters and are both subjects that children may find hard to talk about. Traditional therapy in some cases can have good outcomes, but for children it is easier to visualize their feelings rather that verbally speaking upon them. Children are considered to be visual learners and traditional therapy does not communicate the same way art therapy can. Many studies have shown that introducing art therapy into classrooms and hospitals can improve a child s physical and mental well being. One may still be wondering what is art therapy? to answer that question, here is a definition Art therapy is the application of the visual arts and the creative process within a therapeutic relationship, to support, maintain, and improve the psycho social, physical, cognitive and spiritual health of individuals of all ages. In Phaedo, he expressly uses our notion of equality to illustrate the way in which humans recollect knowledge (as Socrates recollection theory of knowledge holds). His his argument from recollection posits that the soul immortal. When we (humans) perceive sensible things that are equal in the world, we see these as deficient in their equality. (74d 74e) Equal things (which we perceive) and Equality itself are not the same. (74b 74c) When we see the deficiency in perceived equality, it prompts us to recollect Equality itself. He says these perceptions are deficient, as sensible things suffer from the compresence of opposites being both F and not F (e.g., equal and unequal) in different respects, or compared to different things. Plato refers to a stick as an example of a sensible thing. For premise 1, imagine we have three sticks, the first two are the same length and the third is shorter in length. So, we can say the first two are equal to one another (in length) and both are not equal to the third stick. Therefore, sticks cannot be equal full stop, but are equal to one stick and unequal to the other stick. This is the case for all things, they are both F and not F when compared to different things or objects. Just as Helen of Troy will be more beautiful compared to some women and less beautiful compared to other women. So, this deficiency shows there is a distinction between F and F ness, (e.g., equal sticks and Equality itself). In essence, our perceived knowledge of equal things and objects are distinct from Equality itself, in premise 2. He says, We say that there is something that is equal. Although Emerson suggests that it was in Concord where the shot heard around the world was fired, descendants of the towns Lexington and Concord still debate this fact today. Tensions had been building for many years between residents of the 13 American colonies and the British authorities, particularly in Massachusetts (History). On Wednesday, April 19, 1775 at the village green in the village of Lexington in Middlesex County, Province of Massachusetts Bay, Captain John Parker and around 60 militia men many of the men being related to Parker faced off against 240 Redcoats under General Gage s command. Yet all art has elements of ambiguity, and each spectator has a personal perception and response that may change with each exposure to the work of art (Blum 275). Blindness symbolizes desperation and misfortune since it is not a standard feature for everyone hence Picasso finds it fascinating to deliver his message of self pity and sadness in a manner that captures the attention of the spectator. However, the author presumes that Picasso may have unconsciously developed a failure attitude, which led him to use the theme of blindness to evoke the compassion of his spectators enabling him to triumph the period of limited appreciation. Consistently, The old Guitarist is bent over his instrument, immersed in the auditory sphere of music, a rhapsody in blue , so important for the blind (Blum 281). • 23. Vanity In Pride And Prejudice Solomon was known as the smartest and wisest man in the world. He became a king of Israel, and decided that he was going to figure out where happiness is found. He thought that money might be able to make him happy, so he became the richest man in the world, but he was unsuccessful in his pursuit of happiness. He then tried alcohol and women, but he was still unsuccessful. By the end of his pursuit, he eventually determined that happiness could not be found in possessions and money, or any earthly pleasure. For people in modern times, possessions and wealth are often what guide relationships the modern life in general. People who put value in material wealth will struggle and struggle all their lives, but will never be able to find true happiness. Literature and entertainment provides countless examples of the truth of this statement. For much of their lives, Fitzwilliam Darcy and Charlie Babbitt show only pride and love for their money and possessions, and until they met the people who eventually be the most important to them, they weren t able to truly experience love and redemption from their vain lifestyles. In both Pride and Prejudice and Rain Man, Charlie and Mr. Darcy show traits of excessive pride and vanity when they find self worth in their money and social status. The complexity of the Internal Revenue Code has been the source of genuine concern, standup jokes, and political theater for years, but its greatest effect on practitioners of tax is to create a myriad of complicated gray areas and thorny questions that are not quickly resolved to a neat yes or no answer. This ambiguity has resulted in a situation where the ethical and legal implications of tax practice are serious considerations for any professional who is engaging in this line of work. Since 1881, U.S.C. 31 has regulated who can represent other people to the Treasury Department, which encompasses the IRS. This representation, called practice before the IRS, includes not just representation in court, but also all forms of communication on behalf of the taxpayer, including written documentation, phone calls, and interviews. From the beginning, the qualities required to practice before the IRS were good character, good reputation, competence and qualifications ( Beyond the Basics. ) Today, those practicing tax or intending to do so need to be aware of a long list of standards and requirements in order to be compliant with both the IRS, as outlined in Circular 230, and the standards of the profession as outlined by the AICPA in Statements of Standards for Tax Services. This song had a lot of soloist, from all the saxophones to the drummer (Bryan Ocampo) and even the percussion (Josh Nunez). I was fascinated when I heard Bryan Ocampo (drummer) hitting the ride cymbal creating a ride rhythm and felt that I could appreciate that since I have learned it in Jazz Pop. What I really enjoyed about this song is that most of the band members had a turn to solo, giving them a chance to show what they got. The first solo was tenor sax solo (William Perez) which was good and had pauses between notes and then increased to a faster pace. Next solo was by Kevin Forte (Alto Sax) which was my favorite solo and the longest solo out of all the saxophones. Kevin Forte really took the audients by storm with his fast pace catchy and overall great solo. The last soloist was an older gentleman (which I can t seem to find the name of in the directory) which was also great but in my opinion, but didn t bring that fresh sound that the younger kids brought. After that we had another amazing solo that blow me away by the drummer (Bryan Occampo) which had a seemingly flawless transition. In the solo the drummer had a good beat and seemed to be improving. This was my second favorite solo after the alto sax since my favorite genre of music is rock I always appreciate a good drummer solo. In constructing the trailer for his film, Zhang uses six sequences to establish three main genres: melodrama, the spy film, and horror. As she pushes the door slightly ajar the camera tilts downwards, revealing a rope and strange debris which lie on the floor of the room. The sequence then cuts to a shot showing Meishan, as the male servants seize her during the night. This shot establishes the concept of good versus evil which is a vital element of the spy film, as we see a good character being captured by the enemy. To enhance the viewer s perception of this idea, costume and props are given symbolic power, which reveals the film s elaborate handling of mise en scène.
