A Day At Martin High School
It was a rainy day At Martin High School. The lightning zapped and the thunder boomed. The first bell rang
it was time for homeroom. HOMEROOM, the sound echoed in my head. I hated homeroom. The biggest,
meanest, nastiest bully was there, Larry. I hated Larry. He was always after me! Stealing my lunch money

seemed as if the principal was telling Larry to do this evil stuff and Larry was a robot.
It seemed plausible. But nobody has made a robot so sophisticated yet. While these thoughts were running

Unlike store image which refers to functional properties of a retail store including value of money, selection
of product and service s quality, store personality is a mental representation of a retail store on dimensions
that generally describe personality of an individual. There are five dimensions comprised a retail store s
personality such as sophistication, solidity, genuineness, enthusiasm and unpleasantness (d Astous Levesque,
2003).
Once store image is accepted by shoppers, store personality is important in consumers buying behavior as
the buying decision made depends on their experiences of such personality factors as architecture, color
design, music, advertising, sale personnel etc (Martineu, 1958). Colors and designs of a retail store which
can capture customers eyes and attention firstly, music played in store which is highly successful in catching
people attention and the way items displayed in the store, etc, create pleasant feeling and emotion in
customers while walking in the store. Sale personnel, furthermore, play a vital role in shaping customers
mental representation of a retail store (Martineau, 1985). Through those factors, a retail store also creates its
own personality which then will be perceived by shoppers. As a result, customers might perceive store s
personality in either positive that they like store personality or they achieved unfavourable experiences in the
store. People, who

The Economic Origins of the French Revolution
The inflated opinion the French monarchy had about themselves and other nobles lent itself to how they
contributed to and handled the economic downturn in France for centuries prior to the French Revolution.
Forming the foundation of many of France s financial issues, the monarchial system granted royals and the
nobles who surrounded them the ability to feel as if they are intended to be superior to the rest of France, a
mentality that would last until the French Revolution began. With this monarchial system, each king of
France from 1610 to 1789 would contribute in both positive and negative ways, depending greatly on the
Chief Ministers they appointed. [ADD] Marking a significant beginning stage of the economic downturn

One of Richelieu s main areas of focus was with the country s military forces and wars, as he wanted to
expand and modernize the French Navy, while he is also credited with beginning the legacy of French Kings
being involved in unnecessary wars. Despite having been mentored by Richelieu, Cardinal Jules Mazarin as
Chief Minister for both Louis XIII, following the death of Richelieu, and Louis XIV was not interested in
economic or cultural development. Due to his lack of interest in such developments, Mazarin encouraged the
appointment of Nicolas Fouquet as Superintendent of Finances, however, King Louis XIV eventually
imprisoned Fouquet after eight years in the position. His imprisonment is relatively ironic, as it was a
punishment for Fouquet s overt extravagance, which would be an issue that plagued Louis XIV, Louis XV
and Louis XVI until the French Revolution. Four years following Mazarin s death and Fouquet s
imprisonment in 1661, Jean Baptiste Colbert assumed the position of Minister of Finances under Louis XIV.
Colbert s eighteen years in office were productive, as he would encourage the development of colonies
belonging to France, such as Quebec and Louisiana, realizing the potential of using them to create an
economically self sufficient unit within France. Colbert would also promote industry with the use of tariffs,
subsidies and other

The Brain Is Changing The Brain
The brain is a vulnerable organ at a young age, it s very manipulative and how it develops sets the tone of
who the child will be as an adult. How parents choose to develop their child s intelligence at a young age
will be set in stone for the rest of their life. By taking music lessons, people are choosing to physically
change their brain for the better, for the rest of their life. A closer look at how the brain develops when
taking music lessons, will reinstate that as a parent, music lessons are a must. According to Christopher

Music is capable of helping children learn lifelong skills, and can make them overall a happier, creative,
disciplined person. An article titled Why Play Music Kids by Sharon Bryant states, 4 of 5 top benefits
teachers see in the potential of music education to help students: express themselves (92%), become more
confident (90%), develop better practice habits (89%), and more self discipline (88%) (Bryant 1). Children
can sometimes struggle with social skills such as sharing, teamwork, confidence, and self esteem. Children
can learn to accomplish short term goals to work towards a long term goal through music. Becoming a
master of an instrument is a long term goal achieved over years of training. The persistence of reaching short
term goals to reach a long term goal helps teach children how to make progress towards their dreams ( 5
Reasons 1). Another important life skill children can learn, is motivation and self discipline. Students find
motivation in the music they are learning. They must practice consistently and learn the music through self
discipline ( 5 Reasons 1). Along with self discipline, a child can learn to not give up easily through lessons.
Playing an instrument teaches kids to persevere through practice (Bryant 1). Students also learn the

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Analysis
If you re a human who s ever been bored, you ve probably taken a Buzzfeed quiz. If not, you re not missing
much. Buzzfeed is well known for its strange personality quizzes that range from Which Disney princess are
you? to Will your choice of bread reveal how lonely you are? But let s be real. Do these tests actually tell
you anything? Most likely, the results are similar to a weekly horoscope just vague enough to apply to
almost anyone. However, if there was a quiz that could analyze your personality and make well researched
predictions about your future, would you take it?
The Myers Briggs Type Indicator®, MBTI®, is said to do exactly that. According to opp.com, the
questionnaire was developed by Katherine Briggs and Isabel Myers, mother and daughter respectively, and
published in 1943. They were not psychologists, but a teacher ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Today, several versions of the quiz can be taken online, the most notable website being 16personalities.com.
The test is said to take less than 12 minutes; although, thoughtfully chosen answers may result in a longer
completion time.
Students, particularly those looking to choose a career path, could benefit from taking this quiz. It can
validate what students already know about themselves or present new information from which they can
learn. The end report presents a myriad of data, such as strengths and weaknesses, what type of career
setting they would be most comfortable, habits in the workplace, relationship explanations, and a conclusion
that sums everything up in a few short paragraphs.
Although this test is interesting, what everyone must realize is that people are way more complex than any
personality test will tell them. No test can be 100% accurate for everyone and it shouldn t be taken as gospel.
This test organizes everyone into a box; learn from it, but don t let its walls limit

Bag Tax In America
To whom it may concern, Since the 1960s, polyethylene bags has been a catalyst for the American economy
and have directly effected employment opportunities in the United States. In recent years, the plastic bag
industry created over 25,000 new jobs. However, it has made headlines due to the detrimental effects it has
on the environment. With such risks, critics claim that it is crucial to control this activity through a bag tax.
In this letter I will inform you about the damage this law presents and a possible solution to this issue. The
implementation of a bag tax will put many out of work and devastate many businesses in America. For
instance, the National Center for Policy Analysis reported that the 10 cent tax on plastic bags in Los Angeles
forced a ten ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Along with the economic complications, a bag tax will make conditions for the working much more
difficult. The reason I say that is because a family who cannot afford groceries will have to pay more, thus
making their living conditions worse. The United States Department of Agriculture reported that there are
17.5 million families in the United States that are food insecure. This means that they have difficulties
finding a direct source of food. So with the implementation of a bag tax these families will have to compete
with increasing food prices and a tax that will make their next meal unaffordable. In conclusion, the
integration of a bag tax will make the accessibility to food difficult for working class Americans. The last
and final reason as to why application of a bag tax is unnecessary is because it aims to combat pollution, but
it fails to do so. The Environment Protection Agency reported that plastic bags account for only 0.03% of the
United States total waste. This means that the law will not decrease littering. This is prevalent in areas such
as Washington D.C. where the recent bag tax did not combat

The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe Analysis
The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe have many themes of religion. Most of those themes are related to
Christianity. The most important themes are that Turkish delight is like sin, the Queen of Narnia is the Devil,
and Aslan died to save Edmund from that sin just like Jesus did for us.
Turkish delight
Turkish delight is a lot like sin in the real world. The witch gave Edmund the Turkish delight and once he
had a taste he was addicted and when he was done he was left wanting more. Edmund was so addicted that
he betrayed His own family just to get more Turkish delight. This directly reflects sin. In the book is says:
that this is enchanted Turkish Delight and that anyone who had once tasted it would want more and more of
it, and would even, if they were allowed, go on eating it until they killed themselves. (Lewis, 1950)
This is found in real life in real life when people will do anything to get more and more and they will neglect
what is important in life; they may even kill themselves.
The Queen is the Devil
The Queen of Narnia has many links to the Devil of the Christian faith. The Queen is the ruler of Narnia and
has tried to block out Aslan. Comparatively the Bible says: The god of this world has blinded the minds of
those who do not believe, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should
shine on them. (Corinthians 4:4 MEV)
The Queen and the Devil both tempt and manipulate people. The Queen says It is dull, Son of Adam, to
drink without eating, what would you like to drink? (Lewis, 1950) to get Edmund to eat her food which is
cursed. In addition The queen and the Devil both disguise themselves to appear better on the outside, but on
the inside they are bad. (Wagner, 2017) Edmund betrayed his own family so he belongs to the Queen and
needed to be killed at the stone table for the crime which is the exact same thing that happens when one
betrays God one then belongs to the Devil and deserves to die. The evidence is clear that the Queen of
Narnia is a representation of the Devil
Aslan died like Jesus
Edmund betrays his family and Narnia and deserves to die, but Aslan takes his place. Jesus did the same, but
he died to save the whole world not just one person. Both

Specific Language Impairment
If a child has a language delay, then they will not develop language skills as fast as their peers. This means
that a language delay is associated with development issues. However, most are able to catch up with
everyone else by the time they get to preschool. In the article I found, from the National Institute on
Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, it describes a Specific Language Impairment as a disorder of
language in which the accomplishment of language skills is delayed in children exhibiting no hearing loss or
no other developmental delays. This means a Specific Language Impairment is not related to development.
Further, according to the article I found, a Specific Language Impairment has effects that will last through
adulthood,

How To Legalize Marijuana
Legalizing and regulating marijuana has been long sought after by many individuals. It would bring one of
the nation s largest cash crops under the rule of law, changing many things in the criminal, medicine, job/tax
world. The criminalization of marijuana used disproportionately harms young people and people of color,
sponsors massive levels of violence and corruption, and fails to curb youth access. There were 658,000
arrests for marijuana possession in 2012, according to F.B.I. figures, compared with 256,000 for cocaine,
heroin and their derivatives. With marijuana being regulated and distributed by the government, it would
also bring many job opportunities to the market. Federal and local governments would then achieve an
amass amount ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Federally legalizing marijuana would bring many new jobs and a very big new source of tax income.
Colorado s marijuana legalization is quickly turning the state into one of the most prosperous places in the
country. Not only has Colorado projected marijuana sales to be a billion dollar industry, but in January of
2014 alone, the state pulled in over $3.5 million in tax revenue from legal pot sales. If that trend continues,
the state will enjoy an additional $40 million in tax revenue in the first year of legalization. But that s not all
you know those dismal unemployment figures plaguing the nation? Not in states where pot is legal.
Colorado is reporting 10,000 new jobs, all from the legalization of both recreational and medical marijuana.
10,000 new jobs to each state in the United States would easily improve the market, less unemployment. The
state is now enjoying one of the lowest unemployment rates in the nation 6% which is the lowest it has been
since the recession started. So much for those old sayings about pot heads being lazy. That s an additional
10,000 people in a labor force out working, instead of collecting unemployment. That s good for everyone.
Marijuana tax income in Colorado and Washington have exceeded estimates made beforehand. Enforcing
thousands of new jobs, making lots of new money, helping the medical world, and reducing crime rate in the
United States it sounds as if marijuana should already be legal

Sir Thomas Mun s Theory Of Mercantilism
Sir Thomas Mun (1571 1641), a famous economic thinker from the sixteenth century, was most closely
associated with the idea of Mercantilism. This school of thought mainly focused on international trade and
the balance of trade through acquisition of silver and gold. Thomas Mun achieved many accomplishments in
his 70 years of life; most notably, his role as the Director of the East India Company, publishing books and
pamphlets on his theory of mercantilism, molding England s trade policies to maximize the nation s wealth,
and further setting a precedent for international trade that many countries thereafter followed. When Thomas
Mun first introduced his idea of foreign trade, it was during a time of an economic downfall in England.
Many people believed that the East India Company was to blame because they had financed their trade by
exporting a large amount of bullion in order to purchase spices (Walter,1). When accusations arose of his
company being at fault for the trade imbalance in England, Mun s defense strategy involved informing the
citizens of the country about the benefits of international trade to increase England s wealth. Mun wrote a
pamphlet, A Discourse of Trade, from England unto the East Indies, to explain why his company had chosen
to be a participant of trade. Mun explained that if the company had chosen to deter from the trading of
bullion for spices, England would have actually been at more of disadvantage economically. The reason for
this, is that

Icarus Metamorphosis
Oscar Wilde, in his quote that praises Icarus fearless flight, takes an opposing view to the lesson learned
from reading the Greek myth of Icarus and Daedalus. In the myth, Icarus hubris, or extreme arrogance, in
defying the Gods and ignoring his father s instructions about flying too close to the sun, is punished by his
wings melting and falling to his death. The theme is that one should respect rules and their elders and live
within their limits. However, Oscar Wilde put a different spin on the lesson to be learned from Icarus
adventure and tragedy. Wilde poetically said that Icarus success was his fearless flight and that if he didn t
take the risk of flying too close to the burning light of the sun, then that would be the greatest tragedy of
them all. He believes that the adventures and risks we take in life are what make life worth living, and that a
life lived that does not experience the thrills of risk, adventure, and possibly success, even for just a moment,
is a life not well lived. In a sense, Wilde believes that hubris is needed to do amazing things. The arrogance
to ignore the risks may result in great successes, and if you try hard and don t succeed, then even the brave
attempt is success. The only failure or tragedy is not to try at all. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Icek Ajzen Theory Of Planned Behavior
Theory of Planned Behavior Dana Hall
In today s society, we have a mental health crisis that affects everyone, especially the veteran population.
Mental health crisis range from one extreme to another being death, suicide or homicide. A goal for health
care providers is to prevent these types of those extremes from happening. The most widely used social
cognition model for predicting and explaining health behavior is the Theory of Planned Behavior (Ogden,
2003).
Icek Ajzen s Theory of Planned Behavior was used as a framework to explain the relationship between one s
attitude and behavior and whether or not it can be predicted and or prevented. What the Theory of Planned
Behavior focuses on are three kinds of views, behavioral beliefs, normative beliefs and control beliefs
(Ajzens, 1971). Atzens suggests that behavioral beliefs focus on the likelihood of the outcome of behavior
and the evaluation and whether or not they have a positive or negative attitude toward the behavior itself.
Normative belief focuses on the expectations of others and the motivation to comply with those said
expectations and if it is viewed as a result of social pressure or subjective norm (Ajzens, 1971). Control
beliefs go on to focus on factors that may positively or negatively influence performance of that behavior
and the thought power of those factors and perceived behavioral control. When you consider all of these
three views, you develop behavioral intention (1971). It is suggested

Limiting Access to Abortions Limits a Woman s Life
When we had to interview women from different decades, I decided to approach my grandma on the
opinions in regards to abortions when she was growing up. It turns out that much of the controversy that was
around back then, still exists today. According to her, accidental pregnancies resulted in going away for a
while , or back alley abortions , which no one would dare discuss. In these procedures a doctor , or some
strange person would remove or kill the baby by using a coat hanger and inserting it into the uterus. This
was back in the 50 s and while back alley abortions seem like they would be uncommon in this day in age

because a pregnancy would compromise the smooth course of their education. This same study also found
that in Togo, Educational constraints make up one of the three principal reasons given to justify abortions.
and finally, Education is mentioned by almost a third of women under 20 as a reason for abortion. From this

Behavior Reduction Exercise
My primary goal for the Follow Up Period of the Behavior Reduction Exercise was to maintain my
elimination of added (unnatural) sugars from my diet. I decided to continue the length of the reduction
exercise through Lent in the hopes that this exercise can facilitate acquiring a lifestyle change. In other
words, by continuing the length of this exercise, this behavior or restraint will establish healthier eating
habits, because added sugars had become such an unhealthy part of my diet, and this healthy habit will
hopefully assist me in establishing a permanent lifestyle change. I also continued to try to adjust my
alternative coping behaviors by adopting the practice of meditation when I am stress (instead of nail biting
or eating chocolate). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I was proud of myself for not having any lapses this period. I was also proud that my attitude was
exceptionally improved from the Reduction Period. I was less irritable about not having sugar and I was able
to manage my stress without becoming overwhelmed. This exercise reiterated to me to how much one s
environment may affect your behavior or addiction. However, despite the availablilty and prevalence of
sugary treats, I was less tempted or interested. The most intense craving I had actually lasted several days,
but it was brought about by the stress, frustration, and disappointment of preparing and taking the CPCE
exam. This craving was so intense that I began going to extreme measures to satisfy the craving (i.e. trip to
Fresh Market to get a bunch of weird ingredients to make fruit sweetened brownies). In this process, I
realized how ridiculous I was being and was able to walk away from the store. This actually made the
craving go away when I realized how desperate I was being. I think that this craving gave me a small insight
into the situations drug addiction can create. That is to say, it helped me to understand that a craving may not
be momentary, but may last for days. In addition, it helped me to understand the lengths one my go to in
order to satisfy a craving. I think this has provided me with some

Potentially, factors such as inability to identify new products and delay in obtaining intellectual property
rights may affect the company s growth (3M Corporate Headquarters, 2016). 5
Changes in credit ratings
As stated in 3M s 2015 report, it was given an Aa3 credit rating (negative rating) by Moody s Investors
Service (3M Corporate Headquarters, 2016). 3M s negative ratings have served to lower its borrowing costs
and facilitate access to a variety of lenders (3M Corporate Headquarters, 2016). Failure to maintain positive
credit ratings would affect its capital cost and access to capital markets (3M Corporate Headquarters, 2016).

Market Demand
3M s diversified range of products provides opportunities for the company growth. The medical industry is
expected to grow from increase from 17 percent to 22% in next 5 years (3M Corporate Headquarters, 2016).

Examples Of Id Ego And Superego In Lord Of The Flies
Sigmund Freud created the structural model of personality that describes the id, ego, and superego parts of a
person. Id is represented as the devil and based on the pleasure and benefiting themselves. Ego is the angel
and devil together, where there is balance of good and bad. Lastly, superego is shown as the angel with good
behavior and morals. In Golding s book Lord of the Flies, he uses Jack, Ralph, and Piggy to represent
Sigmund Freud s theory of the three personalities: id, ego, and superego.
Throughout the book, it can be noticed that Jack has the id personality. He wants to kill the pigs not for the
benefit of the group, but for himself. He can also be seen as the devil because of how he acts. When Ralph
and Jack were talking to each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the group were discussing about the fire, Piggy says, Cos the smoke s a signal and we can t be rescued
if we don t have smoke (173). Piggy is working to help out the boys by trying to inform them about their
situation, and how they can fix it together. Piggy is the voice of reason out of all the boys by telling them
how things will affect them as a group, and that is just like how the superego tells the ego on how the action
will influence society. Piggy always wants what is best for the group, and wants them all to get off the island
safely. When the group decided to move the fire from the mountain, Golding describes, Piggy was so full of
delight and expanding liberty in Jack s departure, so full of pride in his contribution to the good of society,
that he helped to fetch wood (129). Piggy wants to guide the boys on the right path of survival, and enjoys
when he is able to help. His involvement in book by helping Ralph and the other boys is based on the focus
of the superego to help the needs of society.
Golding s Lord of the Flies takes the structural model of personality and uses it to represent Jack, Ralph, and
Piggy in the novel. He uses them to show how they interact with each other in society. He wants the readers
to understand that the id makes decisions and actions that feels good for themselves, and not for others. The
superego wants to help out society, and follow good morals, but often gets overpowered and ignored by the
id. Lasty, the ego is a balance of the two, and listens to both the superego and the

Case Study :Xero and Mcdonald s Essay
Introduction
Xero and McDonald s are two objects that will be analyzed in this essay. In terms of Xero, an online
accounting software company, the essay will focus on Xero s business strategy by using Porter s five forces
model and Xero s sources of competitive advantages by using Porter s value chain model. Also, the roles and
competencies of CIO, CTO and CPO will be discussed in the case of Macdonald s Australia. Finally, based
on Macdonald s, it will analyze the importance of information system and information technology.

Furthermore, outsourcing the accounting work to accountants or accounting firms may lead to privacy risks
and developing an internal accounting system is infeasible to small enterprises in respect of costs and human
resources.
Thus, there are few outside threats to accounting software in terms of substitute products at the present.
1.5 Intensity of rivalry among competitors
Intensive rivalries are common in industries with many equally balanced companies. According to the
research of accounting software, there are at least 20 free and open source software and 60 proprietary
accounting software in worldwide, which means more firms have to compete for the same customers.
Top Ten Reviews website illustrates top rated accounting software of 2013. Xero ranks ninth overall
although its price per month is the lowest in top ten. More specifically, visible dimensions on which rivalry
is based are not only price, but also switching costs. Low switching costs (i.e. low levels of product
differentiation) is another significant factor associated with higher levels of rivalry. Buyers frequently
purchase the product or service loyally when they find a unique product that satisfies their needs. Although
Xero intends to differentiate itself from others by providing related services, focusing on small businesses
and being web based instead

Cutaneous Receptors Lab Report
A report to investigate how the densities and thresholds of two different types of cutaneous receptors vary
dependent on what part of the body tested
Abstract
The skin detects the modalities of touch and temperature through cutaneous receptors. The aim of this
experiment was to examine the nature of these receptors and their distribution across the body. The results
showed that out of the four skin areas examined, the greatest density of mechanoreceptors was on the tip of
the finger. This was because it gave the highest number of correct responses in the mapping experiment and
the lowest two point discrimination threshold. The thermoreceptor experiments demonstrated that there was
a larger quantity of thermoreceptors specialized to detect cold stimuli rather than hot stimuli however it did
not provide conclusive results on how these receptors were distributed.
Introduction
This report looks at the cutaneous system. This system detects the modalities of temperature, pain and touch.
These are detected by specialised receptors called cutaneous mechanoreceptors and thermoreceptors. This
report will explore which skin area has the highest density of these receptors and therefore the greatest
tactile and thermal acuity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The largest are Pacinian corpuscles which are sensitive to high frequency stimuli and detect rapid touch and
vibration. The second type are Ruffini s endings which, contrastingly, are slow adapting and react to stretch
of the skin. The third type, Meissner s corpuscles, are smaller in size and sense light touch and vibration.
They are also rapidly adapting receptors meaning the action potentials generated quickly decrease after the
onset of pressure. Finally, free nerve endings are formed of the termination of sensory fibres. They are
highly nonspecific and can respond to mechanical, thermal and chemical stimuli, but only at very high

Physicalism Vs Dualism
Physicalism vs. Dualism There is without a doubt that there is wonder and question into the existence of our
mind and bodies and the various aspects that they uphold. There are issues discussed that raise question as to
how our mind and body work together as a system. This issue is introduced by philosophers as the mind
body problem. This problem questions the relationship between our mental states and the physical aspects of
our bodies. Throughout debates and time, philosophers have come up with multiple solutions and ideas to
solving and answering this problem. There are two main responses to this mind body problem: dualism and
physicalism. Dualism, being that the mind and body are different things and physicalism, meaning the mind
and body are the same thing and that everything is entirely made physical. However, it seems that dualism
has a lot more explanation behind it than physicalism and is backed up to be more correct. Dualism was put
forth by Descartes, a philosopher, who had responded to this mind body problem and the account of the
relationship between our mental states and our bodies. Within this idea, there is belief that the mind and the
physical body are two separate and distinct things, meaning the mind is not a material thing like the body ...

This leads to the idea of functionalism, which we see is used to make sense of how our mental life can be
explained as an entirely physical phenomenon. Under functionalism, the mental states we have are identical
to functional states, which is what makes something a belief, desire, experience, etc. Unlike dualism, which
explains that there is a difference in kind between the mind, which is immaterial, and the body, which is
material, functionalism maintains that to talk about mental states is just to talk about ways that physical
systems function. With this idea, functionalism is a form of

Similarities Between Wordsworth And Muir
Two talented literary authors William Wordsworth and John Muir express their emotions towards through
their writing; their belletristic stories depict how their experiences with nature positively impacted their lives
while giving them constant memories that will stay with them forever. Both Wordsworth and Muir used
syntax and diction to verbalize their passionate relationship towards nature.
In I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud William Wordsworth writes of a lonely day while out for a walk; until he
stumbles across a bed of beautiful golden daffodils dancing in the breeze.
Wordsworth writes: A poet could not be but gay, in such a jocund company (stanza 3). In this passage,
Wordsworth uses words like jocund, and gay to express the joy he felt when he found the beautiful daffodils.
Wordsworth also uses the syntax in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Muir fills with excitement from his discovery; he describes the joy he felt over calypso in the following
quote: It seemed the most spiritual of all the flower people I had ever met. I sat down beside it and fairly
cried for joy . In this passage, Muir used words like spiritual to explain Calypso s beauty and used the phrase
fairly cried for joy to express what great happiness they had flower brought to him.
After reading and analyzing Wordsworth s poem and Muir s essay, I can see that both men use writing as a
creative way to express their love for nature all around them.
In Wordsworth s poem, he used syntax and diction to show how the flowers changed his once depressed
lonely mood to positive and grateful. While in Muir s essay, he also uses diction to tell his story of finding
calypso and his overwhelming sense of happiness when he finally sat by the beautiful flower.
In conclusion, both John Muir s and William Wordsworth s stories depict nature in different ways, but it s
their shared love for writing and appreciation for nature that makes them one and the same with each

Racial Disparity In Law Enforcement
Race is used by law enforcement as a determinate of one s potential criminality, therefore disregarding one s
behavior, but rather judging by ethnic or racial appearance. One s race is at constant discrimination and
without reforms to policy, minorities will remain targets for law enforcement and society around the world
and the United States. The reduction of biased law enforcement will minimize racial profiling within the
prison population, as well as at a state and local level. According to figure one a special estimation was used
to identify a racial composition of drivers and was applied to traffic stop data in ninety two Missouri
municipalities. The estimation was conducted as a navigation to better understand racial disparity in traffic

word wrong, and the Roman law term delict. It is derived from the Latin word tortum, which means twisted
or crooked. It implies conduct that is twisted or crooked. It is commonly used to mean a breach of duty
amounting to a civil wrong. Definition: a tort is defined as a civil wrong for which the remedy is a common
law action for unliquidated damages and which is not exclusively the breach of a contract or the breach of a
trust or other merely equitable obligation. A tort arises due to a person s duty to others in generally which is
created by one law or the other. A person who commits a tort is known as a tortfeaser, or a wrongdoer.

does not give rise to liability in tort. 2. Mental elements: Plaintiff may be required to show some fault on the
part of the defendant. Fault here means failure to live up to some ideal standard of conduct set by law. To
determine fault, the following may be proved: a) Malice: In the popular sense, malice means ill will or spite.
In Law, it means i) intentional doing of a wrongful act and, ii) improper motive. b) Intention: i.e. where a
person does a wrongful act knowing the possible consequences likely to arise, he is said to have intended
that act, and is therefore at fault. c) Recklessness: i.e. where a person does an act without caring what its
consequences might be, he is at fault. d) Negligence: i.e. where the circumstances are such that a person
ought to have foreseen consequences of his act and avoided it altogether, he would be at fault if he bothers
not. e) Motive: Motive is the ulterior objective or purpose of doing an act and differs from intention. 3.
Malfeasance, misfeasance and non feasance: Malfeasance‟ refers to the commission of a wrongful act which
is actionable per se and do not require proof of intention or motive. „Misfeasance‟ is applicable to improper
performance of some lawful act, for example, where there is negligence.

Parallel Support Vector Machines Is A Supervised Machine...
Parallel Support Vector Machine
Junfeng Wu Junming Chen May 6, 2016
1 INTRODUCTION
Support vector machines is a supervised machine learning alogrithom used for classification. The problem
could be written : minimize 1 |w |2 2 yi((w,xi)+b)−1≥0 where w is a linear combination of the training data:
n w = αi k(xi ) i=1 this could be further written in a dual form[5]: min 1αTQα−eTα α2
0≤αi ≤C, yTα=0,
∀i ≤n where Q is the kernel matrix.
This dual form is a quadratic programming problem with linear constraints. A solver to this problem like
SMO or IPM reuquires a time complexity of O(n3) and space complexity of O(n2), which makes SVM hard
to scale. In our final project we implemented two parallel quadratic programming solvers for SVM and
implemented a matrix factorization algorithm to improve the performance. Later we evaluated our
implementation.

2 SMO SOLVER IN PARALLEL
SMO is one of the most common ways to solve quadratic programming problem. SMO is a iterative
alogrithm. In each iteration, the alogorithm optimize one pair of Lagrange multipliers (α1,α2) that could best
accelerate the convergence util the lagrange multipliers meet the convergence condition.
2.1 SELECTING AND UPDATING α PAIR
We select alpha1 and alpha2 that make the largest progress towards the global maximum value on each side
of the hyper plane according to the heuristic function. The heuristic function is as follow: n f (i) = aj yj k(xj

Unlike store image which refers to functional properties of a retail store including value of money, selection of product and service s quality, store personality is a mental representation of a retail store on dimensions that generally describe personality of an individual. There are five dimensions comprised a retail store s personality such as sophistication, solidity, genuineness, enthusiasm and unpleasantness (d Astous Levesque, 2003). Once store image is accepted by shoppers, store personality is important in consumers buying behavior as the buying decision made depends on their experiences of such personality factors as architecture, color design, music, advertising, sale personnel etc (Martineu, 1958). Colors and designs of a retail store which can capture customers eyes and attention firstly, music played in store which is highly successful in catching people attention and the way items displayed in the store, etc, create pleasant feeling and emotion in customers while walking in the store. Sale personnel, furthermore, play a vital role in shaping customers mental representation of a retail store (Martineau, 1985). Through those factors, a retail store also creates its own personality which then will be perceived by shoppers. As a result, customers might perceive store s personality in either positive that they like store personality or they achieved unfavourable experiences in the store. People, who ... The Economic Origins of the French Revolution The inflated opinion the French monarchy had about themselves and other nobles lent itself to how they contributed to and handled the economic downturn in France for centuries prior to the French Revolution. Forming the foundation of many of France s financial issues, the monarchial system granted royals and the nobles who surrounded them the ability to feel as if they are intended to be superior to the rest of France, a mentality that would last until the French Revolution began. With this monarchial system, each king of France from 1610 to 1789 would contribute in both positive and negative ways, depending greatly on the Chief Ministers they appointed. One of Richelieu s main areas of focus was with the country s military forces and wars, as he wanted to expand and modernize the French Navy, while he is also credited with beginning the legacy of French Kings being involved in unnecessary wars. Despite having been mentored by Richelieu, Cardinal Jules Mazarin as Chief Minister for both Louis XIII, following the death of Richelieu, and Louis XIV was not interested in economic or cultural development. Due to his lack of interest in such developments, Mazarin encouraged the appointment of Nicolas Fouquet as Superintendent of Finances, however, King Louis XIV eventually imprisoned Fouquet after eight years in the position. His imprisonment is relatively ironic, as it was a punishment for Fouquet s overt extravagance, which would be an issue that plagued Louis XIV, Louis XV and Louis XVI until the French Revolution. Four years following Mazarin s death and Fouquet s imprisonment in 1661, Jean Baptiste Colbert assumed the position of Minister of Finances under Louis XIV. Colbert s eighteen years in office were productive, as he would encourage the development of colonies belonging to France, such as Quebec and Louisiana, realizing the potential of using them to create an economically self sufficient unit within France. • 7. Bag Tax In America To whom it may concern, Since the 1960s, polyethylene bags has been a catalyst for the American economy and have directly effected employment opportunities in the United States. In recent years, the plastic bag industry created over 25,000 new jobs. However, it has made headlines due to the detrimental effects it has on the environment. With such risks, critics claim that it is crucial to control this activity through a bag tax. In this letter I will inform you about the damage this law presents and a possible solution to this issue. The implementation of a bag tax will put many out of work and devastate many businesses in America. For instance, the National Center for Policy Analysis reported that the 10 cent tax on plastic bags in Los Angeles forced a ten ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Along with the economic complications, a bag tax will make conditions for the working much more difficult. The reason I say that is because a family who cannot afford groceries will have to pay more, thus making their living conditions worse. The United States Department of Agriculture reported that there are 17.5 million families in the United States that are food insecure. This means that they have difficulties finding a direct source of food. So with the implementation of a bag tax these families will have to compete with increasing food prices and a tax that will make their next meal unaffordable. In conclusion, the integration of a bag tax will make the accessibility to food difficult for working class Americans. The last and final reason as to why application of a bag tax is unnecessary is because it aims to combat pollution, but it fails to do so. The Environment Protection Agency reported that plastic bags account for only 0.03% of the United States total waste. This means that the law will not decrease littering. This is prevalent in areas such as Washington D.C. where the recent bag tax did not combat ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe Analysis The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe have many themes of religion. Most of those themes are related to Christianity. The most important themes are that Turkish delight is like sin, the Queen of Narnia is the Devil, and Aslan died to save Edmund from that sin just like Jesus did for us. Turkish delight Turkish delight is a lot like sin in the real world. The witch gave Edmund the Turkish delight and once he had a taste he was addicted and when he was done he was left wanting more. Edmund was so addicted that he betrayed His own family just to get more Turkish delight. This directly reflects sin. In the book is says: that this is enchanted Turkish Delight and that anyone who had once tasted it would want more and more of it, and would even, if they were allowed, go on eating it until they killed themselves. (Lewis, 1950) This is found in real life in real life when people will do anything to get more and more and they will neglect what is important in life; they may even kill themselves. The Queen is the Devil The Queen of Narnia has many links to the Devil of the Christian faith. The Queen is the ruler of Narnia and has tried to block out Aslan. Comparatively the Bible says: The god of this world has blinded the minds of those who do not believe, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them. (Corinthians 4:4 MEV) The Queen and the Devil both tempt and manipulate people. The Queen says It is dull, Son of Adam, to drink without eating, what would you like to drink? (Lewis, 1950) to get Edmund to eat her food which is cursed. In addition The queen and the Devil both disguise themselves to appear better on the outside, but on the inside they are bad. (Wagner, 2017) Edmund betrayed his own family so he belongs to the Queen and needed to be killed at the stone table for the crime which is the exact same thing that happens when one betrays God one then belongs to the Devil and deserves to die. The evidence is clear that the Queen of Narnia is a representation of the Devil Aslan died like Jesus Edmund betrays his family and Narnia and deserves to die, but Aslan takes his place. • 13. Sir Thomas Mun s Theory Of Mercantilism Sir Thomas Mun (1571 1641), a famous economic thinker from the sixteenth century, was most closely associated with the idea of Mercantilism. This school of thought mainly focused on international trade and the balance of trade through acquisition of silver and gold. Thomas Mun achieved many accomplishments in his 70 years of life; most notably, his role as the Director of the East India Company, publishing books and pamphlets on his theory of mercantilism, molding England s trade policies to maximize the nation s wealth, and further setting a precedent for international trade that many countries thereafter followed. When Thomas Mun first introduced his idea of foreign trade, it was during a time of an economic downfall in England. Many people believed that the East India Company was to blame because they had financed their trade by exporting a large amount of bullion in order to purchase spices (Walter,1). When accusations arose of his company being at fault for the trade imbalance in England, Mun s defense strategy involved informing the citizens of the country about the benefits of international trade to increase England s wealth. Mun wrote a pamphlet, A Discourse of Trade, from England unto the East Indies, to explain why his company had chosen to be a participant of trade. Mun explained that if the company had chosen to deter from the trading of bullion for spices, England would have actually been at more of disadvantage economically. The reason for this, is that ... • 14. Icarus Metamorphosis Oscar Wilde, in his quote that praises Icarus fearless flight, takes an opposing view to the lesson learned from reading the Greek myth of Icarus and Daedalus. In the myth, Icarus hubris, or extreme arrogance, in defying the Gods and ignoring his father s instructions about flying too close to the sun, is punished by his wings melting and falling to his death. The theme is that one should respect rules and their elders and live within their limits. However, Oscar Wilde put a different spin on the lesson to be learned from Icarus adventure and tragedy. Wilde poetically said that Icarus success was his fearless flight and that if he didn t take the risk of flying too close to the burning light of the sun, then that would be the greatest tragedy of them all. He believes that the adventures and risks we take in life are what make life worth living, and that a life lived that does not experience the thrills of risk, adventure, and possibly success, even for just a moment, is a life not well lived. In a sense, Wilde believes that hubris is needed to do amazing things. • 16. Icek Ajzen Theory Of Planned Behavior Theory of Planned Behavior Dana Hall In today s society, we have a mental health crisis that affects everyone, especially the veteran population. Mental health crisis range from one extreme to another being death, suicide or homicide. A goal for health care providers is to prevent these types of those extremes from happening. The most widely used social cognition model for predicting and explaining health behavior is the Theory of Planned Behavior (Ogden, 2003). Icek Ajzen s Theory of Planned Behavior was used as a framework to explain the relationship between one s attitude and behavior and whether or not it can be predicted and or prevented. What the Theory of Planned Behavior focuses on are three kinds of views, behavioral beliefs, normative beliefs and control beliefs (Ajzens, 1971). Atzens suggests that behavioral beliefs focus on the likelihood of the outcome of behavior and the evaluation and whether or not they have a positive or negative attitude toward the behavior itself. Normative belief focuses on the expectations of others and the motivation to comply with those said expectations and if it is viewed as a result of social pressure or subjective norm (Ajzens, 1971). Control beliefs go on to focus on factors that may positively or negatively influence performance of that behavior and the thought power of those factors and perceived behavioral control. • 21. Behavior Reduction Exercise My primary goal for the Follow Up Period of the Behavior Reduction Exercise was to maintain my elimination of added (unnatural) sugars from my diet. I decided to continue the length of the reduction exercise through Lent in the hopes that this exercise can facilitate acquiring a lifestyle change. In other words, by continuing the length of this exercise, this behavior or restraint will establish healthier eating habits, because added sugars had become such an unhealthy part of my diet, and this healthy habit will hopefully assist me in establishing a permanent lifestyle change. I also continued to try to adjust my alternative coping behaviors by adopting the practice of meditation when I am stress (instead of nail biting or eating chocolate). ... I was less irritable about not having sugar and I was able to manage my stress without becoming overwhelmed. This exercise reiterated to me to how much one s environment may affect your behavior or addiction. However, despite the availablilty and prevalence of sugary treats, I was less tempted or interested. The most intense craving I had actually lasted several days, but it was brought about by the stress, frustration, and disappointment of preparing and taking the CPCE exam. This craving was so intense that I began going to extreme measures to satisfy the craving (i.e. trip to Fresh Market to get a bunch of weird ingredients to make fruit sweetened brownies). In this process, I realized how ridiculous I was being and was able to walk away from the store. This actually made the craving go away when I realized how desperate I was being. I think that this craving gave me a small insight into the situations drug addiction can create. That is to say, it helped me to understand that a craving may not be momentary, but may last for days. In addition, it helped me to understand the lengths one my go to in order to satisfy a craving. I think this has provided me with some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Examples Of Id Ego And Superego In Lord Of The Flies Sigmund Freud created the structural model of personality that describes the id, ego, and superego parts of a person. Id is represented as the devil and based on the pleasure and benefiting themselves. Ego is the angel and devil together, where there is balance of good and bad. Lastly, superego is shown as the angel with good behavior and morals. In Golding s book Lord of the Flies, he uses Jack, Ralph, and Piggy to represent Sigmund Freud s theory of the three personalities: id, ego, and superego. Throughout the book, it can be noticed that Jack has the id personality. He wants to kill the pigs not for the benefit of the group, but for himself. He can also be seen as the devil because of how he acts. When Ralph and Jack were talking to each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Piggy is the voice of reason out of all the boys by telling them how things will affect them as a group, and that is just like how the superego tells the ego on how the action will influence society. Piggy always wants what is best for the group, and wants them all to get off the island safely. When the group decided to move the fire from the mountain, Golding describes, Piggy was so full of delight and expanding liberty in Jack s departure, so full of pride in his contribution to the good of society, that he helped to fetch wood (129). Piggy wants to guide the boys on the right path of survival, and enjoys when he is able to help. His involvement in book by helping Ralph and the other boys is based on the focus of the superego to help the needs of society. Golding s Lord of the Flies takes the structural model of personality and uses it to represent Jack, Ralph, and Piggy in the novel. He uses them to show how they interact with each other in society. He wants the readers to understand that the id makes decisions and actions that feels good for themselves, and not for others. The superego wants to help out society, and follow good morals, but often gets overpowered and ignored by the id. Lasty, the ego is a balance of the two, and listens to both the superego and the ... • 25. Cutaneous Receptors Lab Report A report to investigate how the densities and thresholds of two different types of cutaneous receptors vary dependent on what part of the body tested Abstract The skin detects the modalities of touch and temperature through cutaneous receptors. The aim of this experiment was to examine the nature of these receptors and their distribution across the body. The results showed that out of the four skin areas examined, the greatest density of mechanoreceptors was on the tip of the finger. This was because it gave the highest number of correct responses in the mapping experiment and the lowest two point discrimination threshold. The thermoreceptor experiments demonstrated that there was a larger quantity of thermoreceptors specialized to detect cold stimuli rather than hot stimuli however it did not provide conclusive results on how these receptors were distributed. Introduction This report looks at the cutaneous system. This system detects the modalities of temperature, pain and touch. These are detected by specialised receptors called cutaneous mechanoreceptors and thermoreceptors. This report will explore which skin area has the highest density of these receptors and therefore the greatest tactile and thermal acuity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 26. Physicalism Vs Dualism Physicalism vs. Dualism There is without a doubt that there is wonder and question into the existence of our mind and bodies and the various aspects that they uphold. There are issues discussed that raise question as to how our mind and body work together as a system. This issue is introduced by philosophers as the mind body problem. This problem questions the relationship between our mental states and the physical aspects of our bodies. Throughout debates and time, philosophers have come up with multiple solutions and ideas to solving and answering this problem. There are two main responses to this mind body problem: dualism and physicalism. Dualism, being that the mind and body are different things and physicalism, meaning the mind and body are the same thing and that everything is entirely made physical. However, it seems that dualism has a lot more explanation behind it than physicalism and is backed up to be more correct. Dualism was put forth by Descartes, a philosopher, who had responded to this mind body problem and the account of the relationship between our mental states and our bodies. Within this idea, there is belief that the mind and the physical body are two separate and distinct things, meaning the mind is not a material thing like the body ... Under functionalism, the mental states we have are identical to functional states, which is what makes something a belief, desire, experience, etc. Unlike dualism, which explains that there is a difference in kind between the mind, which is immaterial, and the body, which is material, functionalism maintains that to talk about mental states is just to talk about ways that physical systems function. Similarities Between Wordsworth And Muir Two talented literary authors William Wordsworth and John Muir express their emotions towards through their writing; their belletristic stories depict how their experiences with nature positively impacted their lives while giving them constant memories that will stay with them forever. Both Wordsworth and Muir used syntax and diction to verbalize their passionate relationship towards nature. In I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud William Wordsworth writes of a lonely day while out for a walk; until he stumbles across a bed of beautiful golden daffodils dancing in the breeze. Wordsworth writes: A poet could not be but gay, in such a jocund company (stanza 3). After reading and analyzing Wordsworth s poem and Muir s essay, I can see that both men use writing as a creative way to express their love for nature all around them. In Wordsworth s poem, he used syntax and diction to show how the flowers changed his once depressed lonely mood to positive and grateful. While in Muir s essay, he also uses diction to tell his story of finding calypso and his overwhelming sense of happiness when he finally sat by the beautiful flower. In conclusion, both John Muir s and William Wordsworth s stories depict nature in different ways, but it s their shared love for writing and appreciation for nature that makes them one and the same with each ... • 30. law of torts THE LAW OF TORTS INTRODUCTION The word tort is of French origin and is equivalent of the English word wrong, and the Roman law term delict. It is derived from the Latin word tortum, which means twisted or crooked. It implies conduct that is twisted or crooked. It is commonly used to mean a breach of duty amounting to a civil wrong. Definition: a tort is defined as a civil wrong for which the remedy is a common law action for unliquidated damages and which is not exclusively the breach of a contract or the breach of a trust or other merely equitable obligation. A tort arises due to a person s duty to others in generally which is created by one law or the other. A person who commits a tort is known as a tortfeaser, or a wrongdoer. Where ... To determine fault, the following may be proved: a) Malice: In the popular sense, malice means ill will or spite. In Law, it means i) intentional doing of a wrongful act and, ii) improper motive. b) Intention: i.e. where a person does a wrongful act knowing the possible consequences likely to arise, he is said to have intended that act, and is therefore at fault. c) Recklessness: i.e. where a person does an act without caring what its consequences might be, he is at fault. d) Negligence: i.e. where the circumstances are such that a person ought to have foreseen consequences of his act and avoided it altogether, he would be at fault if he bothers not. e) Motive: Motive is the ulterior objective or purpose of doing an act and differs from intention. 3. • 31. Parallel Support Vector Machines Is A Supervised Machine... Parallel Support Vector Machine Junfeng Wu Junming Chen May 6, 2016 1 INTRODUCTION Support vector machines is a supervised machine learning alogrithom used for classification. The problem could be written : minimize 1 |w |2 2 yi((w,xi)+b)−1≥0 where w is a linear combination of the training data: n w = αi k(xi ) i=1 this could be further written in a dual form[5]: min 1αTQα−eTα α2 0≤αi ≤C, yTα=0, ∀i ≤n where Q is the kernel matrix. This dual form is a quadratic programming problem with linear constraints. A solver to this problem like SMO or IPM reuquires a time complexity of O(n3) and space complexity of O(n2), which makes SVM hard to scale. In our final project we implemented two parallel quadratic programming solvers for SVM and implemented a matrix factorization algorithm to improve the performance. Later we evaluated our implementation. 1 i =1,...,l, 2 SMO SOLVER IN PARALLEL SMO is one of the most common ways to solve quadratic programming problem. SMO is a iterative alogrithm. In each iteration, the alogorithm optimize one pair of Lagrange multipliers (α1,α2) that could best accelerate the convergence util the lagrange multipliers meet the convergence condition. 2.1 SELECTING AND UPDATING α PAIR We select alpha1 and alpha2 that make the largest progress towards the global maximum value on each side of the hyper plane according to the heuristic function.
