The Lake Of The Woods And The Vietnam
Important Aspects in the Novel In the Lake of The Woods and The Vietnam in Me by Tim O Brien
As most of the people in American spent time thinking about clothing and feeding themselves and
their families, the rarely spend time thinking about philosophical issues. Tim O Brien says that he
jars people to look into important things, meaning that he makes people look into the deeper
meaning of the issues reflected in his novels instead of focusing on the basic issues alone. This
paper will analyze the important aspects that are reflected in the Novel In the Lake of the Woods
and the article The Vietnamin Me by Tim O Brien.
Important Aspects In the Lake of The Woods by Tim O Brien
One of the vital things in this novel is its setting. The major conflict in the story occurs at the
northern west angle of Minnesota. The major characters in the novel, John and Kathy chose this
location because of its isolation. This setting helps in shaping the story because that is where Kathy
disappears, and the rest of the novel shifts attention to her search. Another important element in the
setting of this story is the American political environment. When John enters the race for the Senate
seat, the conflict between him and Kathy emerge as it reduces the interaction of the two. In
addition, his involvement in politics unearths his involvement with Charlie Company which leads
to his dismal failure in politics. As the two continue to relax in the woods, many past events begin
to resurface, and

The Importance Of Hate Speech
Revolutions have been fought and won thanks to enraged people who have gathered together to
contest injustice. To illustrate, when the debate over Jim Crow laws ruled the south, college
students (black and white) resorted to civil disobedience by sitting in dinners reserved for whites
only and held protests on college campuses. Such demonstrations served in solidarity for the cause
of civil rights amount the races. Historically, students have been at the forefront of fighting
injustices in the United States; therefore, the fight against hate speechis not the exception. This duty
has been handed down over generations. Consequently, students will continue to stand in solidarity
to denounce what they think is unjust and hold demonstrations to protest hate.
Although the radical left should denounce injustice, they tend to forget the historical importance of
freedom of speech. It is important to realize that, abolitionists, labor activists; religious group
minorities, communists and socialists, cultural critics, gays, and lesbians... all were victims of
limited free speech.(We Must Help College Students Understand the Importance of Free Speech Pg.
2) Perhaps the lack of historical understanding of free speech from the radical left is fathomable.
However, a lack of historical knowledge on such an important right remains unacceptable. Although,
the events that shaped our forefathers unbreakable respect for our first amendment were of high
importance, such as the civil rights

A Midwife’s Tale by Martha Ballard Essay
When Thomas Jefferson wrote the second paragraph of the Declaration of Independence, it
became one of his greatest legacies. In the first line he wrote, We hold these truths to be self
evident, that all men are created equal (U.S. Constitution, paragraph 2). Jefferson wrote these
words to give inspiration to future generations in the hopes that they would be able to change what
he either would or could not. The word men in the Declaration in the early 1700 and 1800 s meant
exactly that, but even then it only was true for some men, not all. Women, children, and other
segments of the population such as slaves and Native Americans were clearly not included.
Jefferson himself was a slave owner and held the belief that women were... Show more content on

Similarities Between China And America
The United States of America and China have a rough relationship, but it is clear to anyone that
they are the two biggest superpowers in the world. These two countries have the highest GDP
(gross domestic product) out of any other country, and they are both very influential over other
countries, making them the two largest powers in the world. Being two major powerhouses, the
two countries have many similarities, and after taking a closer look at the geography, people, and
history of the two countries, it becomes evident that there are many differences as well. The
geography of the United Statesvaries in many ways. Being the third largest country in the world, at

China has a population more than four times the size of the U.S., and is the most populated
country in the world with a staggering 1,403,500,365 people. That is almost one seventh of the
entire population of the world. China has had to implement laws that make it so families get taxed
more on every child that they have after their first, to try and get their population down. The
population may be much higher than the U.S., however, the median house income is much lower
at just over $10,000. About half of the population works in manufacturing, and the other half
works in the service industry. The majority of people are some Chinese, although there are many
ethnic groups that would all be considered Chinese, the most common being Han. The next most
common race is Mongol, followed by Korean, Russian, and Uzbek. Unlike the United States, there
are two official languages in China, Mandarin Chinese and Standard Mandarin. Mandarin Chinese
is mostly spoken in the north and southwest parts of the country and Standard Mandarin is mainly
spoken everywhere else. The two most followed religions in China are Buddhism and Taoism.
There is also a very large amount of unaffiliated people in China. China is one of the last remaining
communist countries, which plays a big role as to the reason that China has a poor relationship with
the United States. China also has a legislative, executive, and judicial branch, however they have

Dante s Hell In The Inferno
It is very interesting to me how so many individuals are able to have such extensive and varied
definitions of what they believe is right verse wrong. It is obvious that society throughout the
years has had a wide spectrum of what we believe is sin and what is not. These different lenses
can be altered by several factors such as how a person was raised, their culture, and also their
personal religious beliefs. It is essential that we learn to not understand others perspective but to
also respect their perspectives as well. The structure of Dante s Hellin the Infernois very complex
and detailed. There six different circles, the sixth through ninth circles are then broken down into
different divisions within the circle. Each

Facts And Facts About An Expert Based On Their Experience
Facts are facts; they are irrefutable. Therefore, how can two people in the same field disagree
when they are able to view the same facts? This brings to mind two questions. If two people
disagree over the facts, then what are facts? If facts are blameless, then to what extent is one an
expert based on their knowledge in contrast to their experience? This year I realized that facts and
experts may be ambiguous terms as the country prepared for an election. Specifically, I entered
into domestic discussions with my own parents. Though I had learned many of my values from
them, we disagreed politically. I decided that though my parents and I could see the same facts, we
had different experiences and emotions that allowed us to be on different... Show more content on

More specifically, it showed that facts are ambiguous, sometimes because morals or religious
beliefs can alter their meanings. In this scenario, the knowledge that stem cells from human
embryos offer the chance to cure many diseases is an idea that is pleasing to countries where
disease is rampant, but is disturbing to those whose religious beliefs indicate that life begins
before birth. As a result it is possible for two experts to disagree because of how they define life,
often caused by their own experiences and emotions. Disagreements may even come when two
experts share knowledge of the same subject, even though they use it in different fields. On
March 4, 1986, The Times published an article titled Two Experts Disagree on Skull Findings.
Louise Robbins, a forensic anthropologist at the University of North Carolina; and John B. Butts,
associate chief medical examiner for North Carolina both agreed that a skull found in Guilford
Creek belonged to a young, white female. However, Robbins insisted that the girl was most likely
shot in the head while Butts insists that the girl likely underwent a surgery, a surgeon s drill being
the cause of the hole. In the article, Robbins made clear that she and Butts come from different

Greg Chamber s Improvisation Essay

Anamneses , whose title means recollections from the past, slightly crosses world music frontiers.
The mystique comes from percussive rattles and cymbal introspection, in addition to guitar

Pros And Cons Of False Confessions
People know that false confessions are possible, however, most do not understand the severity.
66% of people said that if a person signed a confession, they were most likely guilty (Henkel,
Coffman, Dailey, 2008). Only 11% disagreed that a person might confess to a crime they did not
commit. Furthermore, only 42% of participants said that the police might lie about the police
having evidence. Henkel, Coffman, and Dailey report an overwhelming majority of the participants
claimed that they would never confess during an interrogation. What may lead to a false confession
? One major factor is not understanding Miranda rights. Adults may have some difficulty
understanding and appreciating their Miranda rights, but have a general idea of their rights.
Conversely, juveniles have a much more difficult time comprehending their rights. The current
standard for competency is a having a basic understanding of Miranda rights (Grisso et al.,
2003). However, Viljoen, Zapf, and Roesch (2007) found that 58% of defendants ages 11 13,
33.3% of defendants ages 14 15, and 7.8% of defendants ages 16 17 did not meet this standard.
Moreover, if the defendant must also appreciate the rights, 78% of defendants ages 11 13, 62.7%
of defendants ages 14 15, and 35.3% of defendants ages 16 17 did not meet these standards.
Comprehension of Miranda rights is critical, as one may falsely confess if they do not understand
and utilize their rights. Age also changes how the juvenile responds to the

It also stands out that this year the company deducted from its Gross Profit less interest than in the
anterior years, from $361 in 2008 to $90 in 2009.
The result of all the reductions of expenses on the revenues, takes us to the Net Earnings. This
account reflects $12,266, $683 less than in 2008, but $1,690 more than 2007.
Regarding Johnson Johnson s earnings per share, we can see that from the total net earnings, each
share of the company s common stock is valued in $4.40 which has significantly decreased from
its value in 2008, but once again is over the value of year 2007, probably due to the economic crisis.
III. Balance Sheet

Analysis
As we can see in J J s balance sheet, the total assets (total liabilities + total stockholders equity) for
2009 was $94,682.
Liquidity Ratios
The liquidity ratios are a group of ratios that show the relationship of a firm s cash and other
current assets to its current liabilities. This basically means that the ratios measure how well the
company is able to pay its short term obligations and how well they can confront unexpected needs
for cash.
Working capital is the excess of a company s current assets over its current liabilities. Financially
healthy firms have positive working capitals.

Objectivity In Autophenonmenology And Heterophenomenology.
Objectivity in Autophenonmenology and Heterophenomenology
In the journal How to Study Human Consciousness Empirically, Daniel Dennett claims that people
are often just wrong about what they are doing and how they are doing it. Rather than having an
objective and complete understanding of our own intentions and processes, we tend to use
assumptions as knowledge, alter facts to align with our beliefs, and theorize about causes and
effects. As a result, studies of traditional phenomenology (referred to in this situation as
autophenomenology) are often clouded by personal biases and misinterpretations. The evidence of
this confabulation is very similar to a curious child it reveals itself through one repeated question:
why? For example, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This intrinsic subjectivity is important to keep in mind when studying consciousness from a
heterophenomenological perspective. The only true basis we have to determine the individual
experience of another person is what they communicate to us. If this communication is inherently
jumbled with misunderstandings and theories of one s qualia, the data on which
heterophenomenology is based is flawed and, consequently, so is heterophenomenology itself.
Rather than providing a scientific third person view of consciousness, it creates more of a
collective fictional narrative that describes the average experiences of others. In analogous terms,
heterophenomenology aims to create a textbook, but can only produce a pop culture magazine.
This view may be debated by analyzing the validity of personal experience. The fact that an
individual s view of their own internal processes is flawed could be seen as irrelevant; in the end,
what truly matters to the study of consciousness is what one is experiencing. If what one believes
differs from the truth, does this incongruity not reveal key factors of consciousness? Furthermore,
these subjective claims can be cross referenced with scientific facts to neutralize human error. This
can be seen in one of the examples above, in which an individual claims that they went to a
restaurant because they were hungry because they had not eaten in

Epoch Of Helen
Helen of Troy is regarded as the most beautiful woman in the world. She is desired by every man,
and she essentially started The Trojan War, which lasted 10 years. Helen is a central figure in
various Greek mythological stories for her beauty as well as for her decisions and actions. Despite
these main similarities, in various stories Helenis depicted totally differently. The way in which
Helen is portrayed is different from epoch to epoch, and from culture to culture. The three main
epochs that contain stories of Helen are the ancient Greek era, the medieval Christian era, and the
contemporary era. The two main Greek stories including Helen are Homer s Iliadand Odyssey. The
main medieval Christian story including Helen is Dante s Inferno.... Show more content on

Every man desired her, yet she was stuck with an ugly King Menelaus, the ruler of the Spartans.
Helen, however, did know her sheer beauty and because of this she was very frivolous, and that
led to her being unfaithful to Menelaus, and she ran off with Paris, son of Priam, the ruler of
Troy. Troy was a rival city state of the Spartans, and thus a war begun over Helen. Homer
describes Helen s beauty to that of a goddess. He writes, Helen came out of her scented chamber,
a moving grace like Artemis, straight as a shaft of gold (The Odyssey, Book IV). This shows
how elegant Helen was due to the many rich and beautiful comparisons. Homer further goes on
the describe the scene using more and more extravagant comparisons. The words that Homer
uses to describe Helen and the characterization of her really gives the reader a full understanding
of her influence on a man s desires. All men desired her. She was essentially the Aphrodite of the
real world, and Homer carefully worded his writings to depict that. Furthermore, the fact that
men were willing to risk their lives in battle over her significantly shows how influential Helen s
beauty is to the ancient Greeks. The mood of the Odyssey and the Iliad also helps to understand
the desires of the ancient Greeks. The moods of both stories shift greatly from book to book, but
the overall mood is excitement and action. Ultimately, at the end of the action the winner will
get their desires, which in this case is Helen, since she is the desire of the Spartans and Trojans.
The Iliad is mainly about strength and how that can lead to one s desires. The Odyssey is about
wit and how intelligence can also lead one to his/her desires. Helen is essentially set up as the
prize or each competitors desire, and the excitement and action is the mood that leads up to this.
Homer s depiction of Helen is very conventional. She is the most

all marriages today, who enter into a lifelong commitment, will end in divorce. In search of a
solution and an explanation researchers have turned to look at couples who are happy and those
who are not, through all stages of a relationship. They have found that many of the traits that begin

In comparison, conflict that is handled with a more positive tone is associated with greater
happiness in marriage. There is greater marital success and satisfaction when the active listening
model is used, and the message that was sent by the sender is perceived by the receiver the same
way it was intended. It must be noted as well that there are gender differences when it comes to
communication, when a couple is able to realize that men and women process and respond
differently to incoming messages there are less expectations in conflict for a partner to respond in
a certain way. Relational satisfaction is greatly determined by how successful a couple is in
responding to situations which threaten the relationship. When jealousy strikes in a relationship it
can be detrimental to the overall happiness for both the one who is jealous and the significant other.
Jealousy is a threat to any relationship dating, or married. However, when handled with the correct

I Had A Good Friend
Recently I had a good friend ask me about important prerequisites she needed to take next
semester. One of the classes was communications. She was really nervous and concerned because
she is very shy and uncomfortable doing public presentations. I couldn t have be more excited to
explain my experience in the Introduction to Communications course and how this class can not
only benefit her in the future but also help her feel more comfortable presenting in front of
fellow classmates. I first explained to her that I am in the same boat with being shy. I literally
cannot speak in front of the class without screwing something up because how awkwardly
uncomfortable I am speaking in front of the class. I was so nervous to take any communications
classes but I know it has to be done, it s a prerequisite needed to get the degree I want. I wouldn t
let one class that I am scared to take get in the way of getting my degree. The first day of class I
made sure I was super early. I was probably about 45 minutes early because I had been so nervous
to take this course. I wanted to make sure I was prompt and ready. I will never forget the first
day of class. I Met two girls named Asia and Dae. All three of us had been the earliest waiting for
the teacher. They were both so nice and just as nervous as I was to take the course. As the teacher
unlocked the door to the classroom I got kind of got more nervous because our teacher looked

Kanye West 808 s And Heartbreak Interpretation
Kanye West s 808 s and Heartbreak (2008) was a very significant album in the hip hop industry
for many different reasons. The title of the album itself is significant because it is actually named
for a type of automatic drumming machine that is commonly used throughout the hip hop industry
today. It was created for rock bands that didn t have a drummer for monetary or other reasons, and
it was just easier than having a drummer, but was very unpopular at first because of its fake sound.
To many, the sounds it produced just wasn t the same in comparison to actual drum sets, which
caused it to fall off the scene. Kanye West, however, uses the machine to create distorted, unique
sounds instead of trying to get the sound of an authentic drum as... Show more content on

It actually discusses many of the same things as Paranoid (another song on the album) does, and
again shows Kanye as frustrated with his ex. Specifically, Kanye discusses how his ex, Alexis
Phifer, tried to control his life by making him her robot. He also talks about how she tried to dig up
things from his past and how this led to the end of their relationship. Examples of lyrics that display
this include Up late night like she on patrol, Checking everything like I m on parole, I told her there
s some things she don t need to know, She never let it go, oh. This track again features the 808
drum machine in the background along with string instruments and other electronically produced
sounds. The most interesting section of this song occurs from the three minute mark of the song
until the end. In this section Kanye strips the autotune, 808, and other electronically produced
sounds found throughout the rest of the album. Kanye continues to sing, but his voice has a much
more natural sound to it and he is only accompanied by string instruments. It s an interesting twist
from the rest of, not just this song, but the rest of 808s Heartbreak

Mechanical Turk s Target Market
Executive Summary
1.Analysis on Crowdfunding
1.1 Mechanical Turk
Mechanical Turk s provides human intelligence task services, referring to tasks computer AI find
difficult where humans find simple. Mechanical Turk s target market is innately unique it
provides a large market of low skill solvers and seekers needing a large volume of low skill workers.
With it s large employee reach and freedom for what employers charge, Mechanical Turk is
optimal for microwork . Mechanical Turk s value is thus in its ability to source low skill, short
term tasks which require a large volume of workers to complete, with little to no interaction with
the solver. This also makes it valuable as a simple source of income for low skill solvers. The
seeker gains value from Mechanical Turk as it greatly saves on time, costs and is convenient. The
solver gains value from Mechanical Turk from the monetary incentive, freedom and ease of the
work, and the convenience of working online.
1.2 Spoonflower
Spoonflower provides a platform to design, or purchase prints and fabric. As they have allowed
users to sell their designs, their target market has expanded to include clothing and graphic
designers, and the common people as both the seekers and the solvers.
As the textiles industry has been traditionally dominated by large firms, Spoonflower provides the
value of sourcing designs and fabrics at an affordable price, with a greater variety of patterns.
Seekers gain value from the increased

Is Ridley Scott Achieved A Meaningful Ending Of Thelma And...
Has Ridley Scott achieved a meaningful ending in Thelma and Louise?
What makes a meaningful film ending? Firstly characters in the film need to be taken into
consideration. The easiest way to assess this is to look at the protagonists. Did he or she get to
overcome their personal issues, or are they still bothered by them? Ridley Scott, the director of
Thelma and Louise creates a meaningful ending which features the suicide of the two
protagonists Thelma and Louise. They are fugitives on the run from the U.S law after Louise shot
a man who tried to rape Thelma. In the end, these two women were cornered by police, as a result,
they drive off the Grand Canyon to their deaths over the choice of surrendering. Also, the ending is
more meaningful as their fate led them to the Grand Canyon abolishing Thelma and Louise s plan
of escaping to Mexico. As these two protagonists are taken into consideration, in the end, Scott
suggests that their suicide is more meaningful because at the end they overcome their personal
issues. In the same degree, Scott illustrates that if Thelma and Louise were to escape to Mexico or
Surrender their personal struggles could have paralysed their lives.
The director creates a meaningful ending by suggesting that escaping to Mexico is not a solution
for Thelma and Louise to overcome their personal struggles. This is achieved by getting the
audience to question what good could result from escaping. In the beginning of the final scene, they
are driving

What Is The Theme Of The Decameron
Set in Florence during the Black Death (late 1340 s), Giovanni Boccaccio s Decameron started
his reputation as a writer. The story revolves around ten young Florentines who escape the
plague by leaving the city for the clean country air. However, time seems to go by slowly when
nothing is happening, so to pass the time they agree to each tell one story every day. And each
day one person is chosen to decide the topic for the day s set of tales. This brings in multiple
genres of stories, ranging from romantic tales of true love to adventures and trickery. Incidentally, at
the time Boccaccio begins to write the Decameron the Black Deathstarts coming to an end in
Europe. And in fact, much like the characters of his story, many left the dirtiest of cities, in the
beginning, for clean country air in an attempt to escape the plague. These escapees left behind
them the crowded, filthy streets where disease was easily contracted for clean, spacious
countryside. However the plague infected the animals as well, meaning as they moved, it did too.
But for those who chose to stay in the cities, avoiding the disease meant avoiding people. Many
shops closed down and some priests even refused to give people their last rites.... Show more

However, the major difference in his portrayal of each gender, is that the stories seem to favor
females. During the Middle Ages, women would work at home and tend to the children. In society,
they had a lower status than men and usually had little influence over their own lives. But, in the
Decameron, the women often come out victorious through their own cunning ways or extreme
patience and flexibility due to the hardships they must deal with every day. Boccaccio s
representation of women reveals the somewhat hidden aspects of women (from his time) and how
they can often outdo

Theme Of Flowers For Weddings And Funerals
In Flowers for Weddings and Funerals, we view the surroundings of an unnamed narrator. The
people closest to the narrator are her grandmother, Omah, and her friend named Laurence.
The story continuously changes between taking place in the company of the grandmother, and
Laurence.
There is only one obvious jump in time throughout the story; this is when the narrator clarifies that
they have not been with Laurence for a while, despite seeing him.
It also fits the Hollywood model, often used in short stories. The teaser is the first paragraph, where
we meet the Omah and hear about the flowers for wedding and funerals . The elaboration covers
the next two pages; here we meet Laurence and start understanding the narrator relationships. The
point of no return happens on page 121 when the narrator lies to her Omah in ... Show more content

The Secrets Of Becoming A Successful Business
In this book the author has discussed the secrets of becoming a successful business owner and the
differences between working to earn money and having your money work for you. In the first few
chapters the author talks about how money works, the art of negotiation, communication, and
importance of having connections, and knowing the right people. The next few chapters of the
book are about the operation of any business; the process, human resources, marketing, sales, and
finance. The last part of the book is about strategy, seeing the big picture, and planning.
Most Harvard Business School students do not care about getting a job after graduation according
to the author. Because having a regular job is a means, not an end. It is true that great education
and having a great career are important in life, but that all depends on one s goal in life. Having a
good stable job would put you in a middle class or maybe in an upper middle class, however if one
s goal is to maximize their wealth and fortune, working for someone else is not logical.
The book discusses two types of income: linear and investment. Linear income is when one works
for someone else and gets paid based on how many hours they put in which has a limit depending
on his or her level of education and experience. Once the person stops working, they will no longer
have that income. On the other hand, investment, is when your money works for your and does not
depend on how much time one puts in other than maybe in

Background (Milde, R., 2001)
Common wisdom tells us that there are, in general, two kinds of writing: creative and expository.
Creative writing tells about feelings, opinions, points of view, things that originate inside the writer.
Expository essays tell about facts, things outside of the writer. Essays on literature examine a
literary text, a thing outside the writer. Lab reports describe experiments with chemicals and other
stuff that really exists and can be measured. Research is factual; fiction, poetry, and the personal
story are emotional.

Angell s Belief in Functionalism and John Watson s Belief...
It was also suggested by Angell(1913) that consciousness was best if forgotten and there should be
a objective method of describing animal and human behavior but also believed that if it were to
exist , it should definitely be of some use for an organism .
The statement also suggests that it was not only John Watson the founder of behaviorism who
proposed the idea rather it was thought about before him. His rise and influence was probably
because of introducing the idea at a time when it could be accepted by the time and tide of that
period.
Psychology had been the study of mind from a very long time and was represented by the method of
introspection defined as studying the mind by analyzing the thoughts.
Angell s functionalism aimed to apply psychology and its methods to real life problems however
the problem with both structuralism and functionalism was that the methods were not reliable and
introspection was considered to be a problem rather than a solution.
Psychology could not convince people of its usefulness and practical problem and the founder of
behaviorism John Watson believed that both structuralism and functionalism were subjective and
introduced behaviorism as objective. (Moore ,2011) which was considered to be a transformation
from one phase of science to another . (Gardner ,1985)
Behaviorism has been believed to influence everyday life from parenting and learning to employee
perks in organizations. It aims to study behavior and how it can be changed, it

The Pros And Cons Of Federalism, Unitary And Confederal...

POS 2041: American National Government
Fall 2017
Instructor: Douglas Rivero
Analyze the pros and cons of federalism, unitary and confederal systems. Explain to me whether
you believe that we should keep our federal system or whether we should abandon it in favor of a
different one.
Before discussing the pros and cons of different governmental systems, let s know about the federal,
unitary, and confederal systems? There are three systems of governmentexist today: federal, unitary,
and confederal. Federal system is a medium centralized, Unitary system is highly centralized, and
confederal system has a low level centralization. Furthermore, federal system believes in the strong
national government which shares power with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The biggest advantage of federal system is check and balances a political system where each
branch of government have authority to keep checks on other branches and to influence the
decisions of other branches; the political power is not concentrated in the hands of individuals or
groups. Now, let s see the cons of the federal system. Cons of the federal system are: prevention of
the creation of a national policy, lack of accountability, and potential for corruption. Federalismalso
causes confusion between the local governments and the national government as well.
(Federalism Pros and Cons List, 2015) For an example, the United State doesn t have a single
policy on issues, which often leads to the confusion. Also, power of authority can create a possible
atmosphere for corruption at local and national level. For an example, if majority of the congress
wants to pass a law on something and local states do not agree on it, then the local government can
agree on the law to get something in return in form of money or favors!
Second, advantages of unitary system are simplicity, less corruption, simplified economic policies,
and high level of national pride. Unitary government is simple. Fewer people are involved in the
decision making process so that decisions are made faster and more efficiently. (apecsecadmin,
2015) In a unitary system, only few self motivated people have direct access to the decision makers,

Thesis Statement Of No Greater Love By Danielle Steel
CONCLUSION
No Greater Love by Danielle Steel is about bearing burden of life. The dissertation work based
on No Greater Love contained the main facts, the everyday life of today s society. Danielle Steel
as the author of the novel put herself at the center of the story, thus guaranteed the work s being so
real, the work mirrors the real world.
Speaking of this work we tried to put our opinion of the hard life writing this dissertation work.
Generally, the thesis contained No Greater Love , its author, major problems, plot, analyzing of
characters and mysteries concerning Titanic. It s obvious that the work is historical fiction, this is
Steel s one of her two novels about Titanic where life becomes heavy burden for heroines caused
by Titanic disaster. As it was mentioned No Greater Love is a historical fiction and we proved it
in the dissertation work, as the part of history is depicted there. Also we got Danielle Steel s letters
concerning this theme, where we again are sure that this novel is the genre of above mentioned.
Historical fiction is always popular in every period of time. The genre itself is very attracting, the

Government assistance is needed to help low income women out of their current situations.
Research has found that while stress contributes to alcoholism, a positive social support can prevent
alcohol abuse from taking place (Mulia, Schmidt, Bond, Jacobs, Korcha, 2008). African Americans
represent 12 percent of the U.S. population, and more than half are women, and about 35 percent of
those women live in poverty (U.S. Census Bureau, 2000). There are various patterns when it comes
to drinking and alcohol addiction. Trends in alcohol use among African American women show four
percent of women aging from 19 to 29 years of age consume alcohol daily, while women ages 40 to
49 have the highest intake of alcohol consumption for women. Even though admissions to substance

Most people use lie to cover more lies but Peter was a character who didn t care about lying. He
symbolizes false because he was one to lie with no problem or remorse. Peter preferred to lie
other than facing the consequences. If someone knew Ivan Ilych it was Peter although most of
the time he put himself before everyone else, he actually knew Ivan really well. Peter is not the
kind of best friend people want because he would be backstabbing everyone all the time. He
would make himself look in front of people and say what people want to hear in front of
everyone. A quote from the novella that explains how fake peter was is when the narrator says,
Praskovya Fedorovna recognizing Peter Ivanovich, sighed, went close up to him, took his hand, and
said: I know you were a true friend to Ivan Ilych . . . and looked at him awaiting some suitable
response. This quote explains how people were starting to realize how fake of a friend Peter was to
Ivan. This concludes that people are not always who others may think they are. As in for Peter
Ivanovich he is one of the worst traders a person could have as a friend. His last name Ivanovich
stands for Ivan s son. That is why maybe he was relieved when Ivan Ilych dies because he is truly
tired of living under his shadow. Peter was a false person because when his best friend dies he feels
like more doors open. That is why people might say don t judge a book

The University Of Alabama And University At Birmingham
Deciding on a four year university to transfer to can be a very stressful decision. Talking to
recruiters from many different schools has revealed one thing; they all believe their school is the
best. Recruiters are not going to disclose the problem areas of their programs, nor highlight areas
where other schools are stronger. Therefore, leaving students to compare and contrast, everything
the schools offer, and attempt to make an informed decision. When comparing the different
electrical engineeringprograms, it seemed that every school claimed to be the most innovative, and
had the ability to offer the most opportunities to their students. When looking specifically at the
Universityof Alabama and the University of Alabama at Birmingham it became evident that their
programs were very similar. Both schools require the same computer and engineering seminar
classes and both require that their students achieve a C or higher in their math and science courses.
Where they truly stood out from one another is in their transfer requirements, the organizations
available on campus, and the cost of attendance. As a transfer student, one of the most important
aspects of choosing any college is making sure that all of the requirements can be met. The
University of Alabama requires that to transfer in, the student must have maintained a 2.0 GPA on
a 4.0 scale, which is a C average. They also require that to be classified as a transfer student versus
a freshman student,

Snap Reflection Journal
Journal Wednesday, Today was a slow but productive day. My supervisor Jim Hornsby
scheduled me for a class in order to be a certified field navigator within the practicum. A field
navigator is another word for case manager. The class was held about a few hundred yards from
CTLC. The class started at eight o clock, I was the first to arrive. When I sat down in the empty
classroom I found myself reflecting on how much I have accomplish in just this year alone. In
the middle of my reflection, I heard a loud bang at the door, so I went to investigate and there
were the rest of the students. They all came in a pack, everyone knew everyone except me. The
pack of student were smiling from ear to ear and talking about their weekend plans,... Show more

I arrived at my practicum energetic and motivated around nine o clock as I always do with most
things in life. I had two prisoners from the organization CENTEX that arrive. They were very
nice people. Both prisoners denied therapy, so that made my job a little easier but not as fun for
me. The two individuals just wanted clothing and some food. I wrote them a voucher for both of
their needs and they left with the supervising officer. I really wanted to get to know more about
the program CENTEX, because I know if I was a prisoner I would enjoy as much time away
from the prison as possible I would say yes to everything that was offered to me. But I have to
remind myself not to make attribution errors. Just because I think of something a certain way
does not mean that s how others are supposed to react. Since the two prisoners did not want
therapy I decided to go the education room at Feed My Sheep because I know that they would
have clients down there. I walked to the faculty through the hot burning Texas sun, and when I
arrived I went inside of the double door building and went straight to work there was about four
people in line who wanted to get assistance for food stamps which is now called SNAP. The four
clients were all older females, I think that they all knew each other because they were Latina and
talking to each other in their native

Children With Developmental Disabilities During The 1960s...
During the 1950s, people who had a disability had two options of housing which included living
with their families or living in an institution. However, families did not receive much support
since most public welfare services were used towards institutional care, such as mental hospitals
and orphanages. Throughout the 1960s there were movements to deinstitutionalize, which at that
time basically led to smaller institutions. The 1970s allowed for even smaller community based
residential services that were typically designed for not more than 12 people that were similar in
terms of age, independence, or ability. Even though different funding was available, many
standards were violated in most of the institutions. Throughout the 70s there were movements to
close state institutions and provide more community residential services as well as family
support. During the 1980s groundwork for families was laid to expand their control of the nature
of the support they received and more options were available to help out with living outside an
institution. People with developmental disabilities began to gain increased support to having
homes of their own during the 1990s and funded had dramatically increased to over $735 for
family support programs in 1998. In 2001 the federal government began a new freedom initiative
to remove barriers to community living for people of all ages with disabilities and long term
illness. In 2011 the decision that the isolation of people with

  • 2. The Lake Of The Woods And The Vietnam Important Aspects in the Novel In the Lake of The Woods and The Vietnam in Me by Tim O Brien As most of the people in American spent time thinking about clothing and feeding themselves and their families, the rarely spend time thinking about philosophical issues. Tim O Brien says that he jars people to look into important things, meaning that he makes people look into the deeper meaning of the issues reflected in his novels instead of focusing on the basic issues alone. This paper will analyze the important aspects that are reflected in the Novel In the Lake of the Woods and the article The Vietnamin Me by Tim O Brien. Important Aspects In the Lake of The Woods by Tim O Brien One of the vital things in this novel is its setting. The major conflict in the story occurs at the northern west angle of Minnesota. The major characters in the novel, John and Kathy chose this location because of its isolation. This setting helps in shaping the story because that is where Kathy disappears, and the rest of the novel shifts attention to her search. Another important element in the setting of this story is the American political environment. When John enters the race for the Senate seat, the conflict between him and Kathy emerge as it reduces the interaction of the two. In addition, his involvement in politics unearths his involvement with Charlie Company which leads to his dismal failure in politics. As the two continue to relax in the woods, many past events begin to resurface, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Importance Of Hate Speech Revolutions have been fought and won thanks to enraged people who have gathered together to contest injustice. To illustrate, when the debate over Jim Crow laws ruled the south, college students (black and white) resorted to civil disobedience by sitting in dinners reserved for whites only and held protests on college campuses. Such demonstrations served in solidarity for the cause of civil rights amount the races. Historically, students have been at the forefront of fighting injustices in the United States; therefore, the fight against hate speechis not the exception. This duty has been handed down over generations. Consequently, students will continue to stand in solidarity to denounce what they think is unjust and hold demonstrations to protest hate. Although the radical left should denounce injustice, they tend to forget the historical importance of freedom of speech. It is important to realize that, abolitionists, labor activists; religious group minorities, communists and socialists, cultural critics, gays, and lesbians... all were victims of limited free speech.(We Must Help College Students Understand the Importance of Free Speech Pg. 2) Perhaps the lack of historical understanding of free speech from the radical left is fathomable. However, a lack of historical knowledge on such an important right remains unacceptable. • 4. A Midwife’s Tale by Martha Ballard Essay When Thomas Jefferson wrote the second paragraph of the Declaration of Independence, it became one of his greatest legacies. In the first line he wrote, We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal (U.S. Constitution, paragraph 2). Jefferson wrote these words to give inspiration to future generations in the hopes that they would be able to change what he either would or could not. The word men in the Declaration in the early 1700 and 1800 s meant exactly that, but even then it only was true for some men, not all. These two countries have the highest GDP (gross domestic product) out of any other country, and they are both very influential over other countries, making them the two largest powers in the world. Being two major powerhouses, the two countries have many similarities, and after taking a closer look at the geography, people, and history of the two countries, it becomes evident that there are many differences as well. Therefore, how can two people in the same field disagree when they are able to view the same facts? This brings to mind two questions. If two people disagree over the facts, then what are facts? If facts are blameless, then to what extent is one an expert based on their knowledge in contrast to their experience? This year I realized that facts and experts may be ambiguous terms as the country prepared for an election. Specifically, I entered into domestic discussions with my own parents. More specifically, it showed that facts are ambiguous, sometimes because morals or religious beliefs can alter their meanings. In this scenario, the knowledge that stem cells from human embryos offer the chance to cure many diseases is an idea that is pleasing to countries where disease is rampant, but is disturbing to those whose religious beliefs indicate that life begins before birth. As a result it is possible for two experts to disagree because of how they define life, often caused by their own experiences and emotions. Disagreements may even come when two experts share knowledge of the same subject, even though they use it in different fields. On March 4, 1986, The Times published an article titled Two Experts Disagree on Skull Findings. Louise Robbins, a forensic anthropologist at the University of North Carolina; and John B. Pros And Cons Of False Confessions People know that false confessions are possible, however, most do not understand the severity. 66% of people said that if a person signed a confession, they were most likely guilty (Henkel, Coffman, Dailey, 2008). Only 11% disagreed that a person might confess to a crime they did not commit. Furthermore, only 42% of participants said that the police might lie about the police having evidence. Henkel, Coffman, and Dailey report an overwhelming majority of the participants claimed that they would never confess during an interrogation. What may lead to a false confession ? One major factor is not understanding Miranda rights. Adults may have some difficulty understanding and appreciating their Miranda rights, but have a general idea of their rights. Conversely, juveniles have a much more difficult time comprehending their rights. The current standard for competency is a having a basic understanding of Miranda rights (Grisso et al., 2003). Objectivity in Autophenonmenology and Heterophenomenology In the journal How to Study Human Consciousness Empirically, Daniel Dennett claims that people are often just wrong about what they are doing and how they are doing it. Rather than having an objective and complete understanding of our own intentions and processes, we tend to use assumptions as knowledge, alter facts to align with our beliefs, and theorize about causes and effects. As a result, studies of traditional phenomenology (referred to in this situation as autophenomenology) are often clouded by personal biases and misinterpretations. The evidence of this confabulation is very similar to a curious child it reveals itself through one repeated question: why? For example, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This intrinsic subjectivity is important to keep in mind when studying consciousness from a heterophenomenological perspective. The only true basis we have to determine the individual experience of another person is what they communicate to us. If this communication is inherently jumbled with misunderstandings and theories of one s qualia, the data on which heterophenomenology is based is flawed and, consequently, so is heterophenomenology itself. Rather than providing a scientific third person view of consciousness, it creates more of a collective fictional narrative that describes the average experiences of others. In analogous terms, heterophenomenology aims to create a textbook, but can only produce a pop culture magazine. This view may be debated by analyzing the validity of personal experience. The fact that an individual s view of their own internal processes is flawed could be seen as irrelevant; in the end, what truly matters to the study of consciousness is what one is experiencing. If what one believes differs from the truth, does this incongruity not reveal key factors of consciousness? Furthermore, these subjective claims can be cross referenced with scientific facts to neutralize human error. This can be seen in one of the examples above, in which an individual claims that they went to a restaurant because they were hungry because they had not eaten in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Helen is a central figure in various Greek mythological stories for her beauty as well as for her decisions and actions. Despite these main similarities, in various stories Helenis depicted totally differently. The way in which Helen is portrayed is different from epoch to epoch, and from culture to culture. The three main epochs that contain stories of Helen are the ancient Greek era, the medieval Christian era, and the contemporary era. Every man desired her, yet she was stuck with an ugly King Menelaus, the ruler of the Spartans. Helen, however, did know her sheer beauty and because of this she was very frivolous, and that led to her being unfaithful to Menelaus, and she ran off with Paris, son of Priam, the ruler of Troy. Troy was a rival city state of the Spartans, and thus a war begun over Helen. Homer describes Helen s beauty to that of a goddess. He writes, Helen came out of her scented chamber, a moving grace like Artemis, straight as a shaft of gold (The Odyssey, Book IV). This shows how elegant Helen was due to the many rich and beautiful comparisons. Homer further goes on the describe the scene using more and more extravagant comparisons. The words that Homer uses to describe Helen and the characterization of her really gives the reader a full understanding of her influence on a man s desires. All men desired her. She was essentially the Aphrodite of the real world, and Homer carefully worded his writings to depict that. Furthermore, the fact that men were willing to risk their lives in battle over her significantly shows how influential Helen s beauty is to the ancient Greeks. The mood of the Odyssey and the Iliad also helps to understand the desires of the ancient Greeks. The moods of both stories shift greatly from book to book, but the overall mood is excitement and action. Ultimately, at the end of the action the winner will get their desires, which in this case is Helen, since she is the desire of the Spartans and Trojans. The Iliad is mainly about strength and how that can lead to one s desires. The Odyssey is about wit and how intelligence can also lead one to his/her desires. Helen is essentially set up as the prize or each competitors desire, and the excitement and action is the mood that leads up to this. Homer s depiction of Helen is very conventional. This project aims to investigate the role of EGFR (L858R/+/+) as a biomarker for AZD 9291 (Osimertinib) treatment, using SW48 cell line with a wild type mutation of EGFR and Heterozygous knockin of EGFR activating mutation (L858R/+/+), to investigate the mechanism of resistances if cells developed resistance and to test the overlap between Osimertinib and AZD5363, palbocidib and selumetinib. She was really nervous and concerned because she is very shy and uncomfortable doing public presentations. I couldn t have be more excited to explain my experience in the Introduction to Communications course and how this class can not only benefit her in the future but also help her feel more comfortable presenting in front of fellow classmates. I first explained to her that I am in the same boat with being shy. • 22. Kanye West 808 s And Heartbreak Interpretation Kanye West s 808 s and Heartbreak (2008) was a very significant album in the hip hop industry for many different reasons. The title of the album itself is significant because it is actually named for a type of automatic drumming machine that is commonly used throughout the hip hop industry today. It was created for rock bands that didn t have a drummer for monetary or other reasons, and it was just easier than having a drummer, but was very unpopular at first because of its fake sound. To many, the sounds it produced just wasn t the same in comparison to actual drum sets, which caused it to fall off the scene. Kanye West, however, uses the machine to create distorted, unique sounds instead of trying to get the sound of an authentic drum as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It actually discusses many of the same things as Paranoid (another song on the album) does, and again shows Kanye as frustrated with his ex. Specifically, Kanye discusses how his ex, Alexis Phifer, tried to control his life by making him her robot. He also talks about how she tried to dig up things from his past and how this led to the end of their relationship. Examples of lyrics that display this include Up late night like she on patrol, Checking everything like I m on parole, I told her there s some things she don t need to know, She never let it go, oh. This track again features the 808 drum machine in the background along with string instruments and other electronically produced sounds. The most interesting section of this song occurs from the three minute mark of the song until the end. In this section Kanye strips the autotune, 808, and other electronically produced sounds found throughout the rest of the album. • 24. Is Ridley Scott Achieved A Meaningful Ending Of Thelma And... Has Ridley Scott achieved a meaningful ending in Thelma and Louise? What makes a meaningful film ending? Firstly characters in the film need to be taken into consideration. The easiest way to assess this is to look at the protagonists. Did he or she get to overcome their personal issues, or are they still bothered by them? Ridley Scott, the director of Thelma and Louise creates a meaningful ending which features the suicide of the two protagonists Thelma and Louise. They are fugitives on the run from the U.S law after Louise shot a man who tried to rape Thelma. In the end, these two women were cornered by police, as a result, they drive off the Grand Canyon to their deaths over the choice of surrendering. Also, the ending is more meaningful as their fate led them to the Grand Canyon abolishing Thelma and Louise s plan of escaping to Mexico. As these two protagonists are taken into consideration, in the end, Scott suggests that their suicide is more meaningful because at the end they overcome their personal issues. In the same degree, Scott illustrates that if Thelma and Louise were to escape to Mexico or Surrender their personal struggles could have paralysed their lives. The director creates a meaningful ending by suggesting that escaping to Mexico is not a solution for Thelma and Louise to overcome their personal struggles. This is achieved by getting the audience to question what good could result from escaping. In the beginning of the final scene, they are driving ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The next few chapters of the book are about the operation of any business; the process, human resources, marketing, sales, and finance. The last part of the book is about strategy, seeing the big picture, and planning. Most Harvard Business School students do not care about getting a job after graduation according to the author. The statement also suggests that it was not only John Watson the founder of behaviorism who proposed the idea rather it was thought about before him. His rise and influence was probably because of introducing the idea at a time when it could be accepted by the time and tide of that period. Psychology had been the study of mind from a very long time and was represented by the method of introspection defined as studying the mind by analyzing the thoughts. Angell s functionalism aimed to apply psychology and its methods to real life problems however the problem with both structuralism and functionalism was that the methods were not reliable and introspection was considered to be a problem rather than a solution. If someone knew Ivan Ilych it was Peter although most of the time he put himself before everyone else, he actually knew Ivan really well. Peter is not the kind of best friend people want because he would be backstabbing everyone all the time. He would make himself look in front of people and say what people want to hear in front of everyone. A quote from the novella that explains how fake peter was is when the narrator says, Praskovya Fedorovna recognizing Peter Ivanovich, sighed, went close up to him, took his hand, and said: I know you were a true friend to Ivan Ilych . . . and looked at him awaiting some suitable response. This quote explains how people were starting to realize how fake of a friend Peter was to Ivan. This concludes that people are not always who others may think they are. As in for Peter Ivanovich he is one of the worst traders a person could have as a friend. His last name Ivanovich stands for Ivan s son. That is why maybe he was relieved when Ivan Ilych dies because he is truly tired of living under his shadow. Peter was a false person because when his best friend dies he feels like more doors open. That is why people might say don t judge a book ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The University Of Alabama And University At Birmingham Deciding on a four year university to transfer to can be a very stressful decision. Talking to recruiters from many different schools has revealed one thing; they all believe their school is the best. Recruiters are not going to disclose the problem areas of their programs, nor highlight areas where other schools are stronger. Therefore, leaving students to compare and contrast, everything the schools offer, and attempt to make an informed decision. When comparing the different electrical engineeringprograms, it seemed that every school claimed to be the most innovative, and had the ability to offer the most opportunities to their students. When looking specifically at the Universityof Alabama and the University of Alabama at Birmingham it became evident that their programs were very similar. Both schools require the same computer and engineering seminar classes and both require that their students achieve a C or higher in their math and science courses. Where they truly stood out from one another is in their transfer requirements, the organizations available on campus, and the cost of attendance. As a transfer student, one of the most important aspects of choosing any college is making sure that all of the requirements can be met. The University of Alabama requires that to transfer in, the student must have maintained a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, which is a C average. They also require that to be classified as a transfer student versus a freshman student, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Snap Reflection Journal Journal Wednesday, Today was a slow but productive day. My supervisor Jim Hornsby scheduled me for a class in order to be a certified field navigator within the practicum. A field navigator is another word for case manager. The class was held about a few hundred yards from CTLC. The class started at eight o clock, I was the first to arrive. When I sat down in the empty classroom I found myself reflecting on how much I have accomplish in just this year alone. In the middle of my reflection, I heard a loud bang at the door, so I went to investigate and there were the rest of the students. They all came in a pack, everyone knew everyone except me. The pack of student were smiling from ear to ear and talking about their weekend plans,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I arrived at my practicum energetic and motivated around nine o clock as I always do with most things in life. I had two prisoners from the organization CENTEX that arrive. They were very nice people. Both prisoners denied therapy, so that made my job a little easier but not as fun for me. The two individuals just wanted clothing and some food. I wrote them a voucher for both of their needs and they left with the supervising officer. I really wanted to get to know more about the program CENTEX, because I know if I was a prisoner I would enjoy as much time away from the prison as possible I would say yes to everything that was offered to me. But I have to remind myself not to make attribution errors. Just because I think of something a certain way does not mean that s how others are supposed to react. Since the two prisoners did not want therapy I decided to go the education room at Feed My Sheep because I know that they would have clients down there. I walked to the faculty through the hot burning Texas sun, and when I arrived I went inside of the double door building and went straight to work there was about four people in line who wanted to get assistance for food stamps which is now called SNAP. The four clients were all older females, I think that they all knew each other because they were Latina and talking to each other in their native ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Children With Developmental Disabilities During The 1960s... During the 1950s, people who had a disability had two options of housing which included living with their families or living in an institution. However, families did not receive much support since most public welfare services were used towards institutional care, such as mental hospitals and orphanages. Throughout the 1960s there were movements to deinstitutionalize, which at that time basically led to smaller institutions. The 1970s allowed for even smaller community based residential services that were typically designed for not more than 12 people that were similar in terms of age, independence, or ability. Even though different funding was available, many standards were violated in most of the institutions. Throughout the 70s there were movements to close state institutions and provide more community residential services as well as family support. During the 1980s groundwork for families was laid to expand their control of the nature of the support they received and more options were available to help out with living outside an institution. People with developmental disabilities began to gain increased support to having homes of their own during the 1990s and funded had dramatically increased to over $735 for family support programs in 1998. In 2001 the federal government began a new freedom initiative to remove barriers to community living for people of all ages with disabilities and long term illness. In 2011 the decision that the isolation of people with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
