HOW DOES IT WORK?
• The translation process is psychological/ mental
• We construct and deconstruct meaning
• The process involves two languages
• The source language (SL) and the target language (TL)
alternate in the meaning construction process
We perform thousands of mental operations in
order to translate a small piece of text or
information. The process occurs inside our
heads, not on the desk, the dictionary or the
word processor…
Meaning is constructed and
deconstructed as communication
occurs.
Translation and interpretation are
important forms of cross-cultural
communication
Although there are many languages, translation can
only involve two languages— a source language (SL)
and a target language (TL).
Translation does not involve three or four languages
interacting simultaneously.
As in the communication model the SL and TL
interact and alternate in the meaning construction
process, There are many parallels with
communication we have to bear in mind!
Thank you for your attention!
Please, explain in your words what the translation process is!
