The document discusses how technology and social media have influenced human behavior and social interactions. It explores how people have moved from consuming to producing media and sharing their ideas openly. This has led to people building their personal brands and expanding their social circles beyond intimacy to include ambient intimacy. Networks now act as human filters that can sort useful information from noise. Overall, the document examines the micro-level sociological effects of social networks on individuals and society.

Social Networks, Mobile Devices, Email and Direct Mail: Is This the Future of...Jeffrey Stewart
This paper is based on a presentation given by Jeffrey Stewart, Trekk’s Chief Technology Officer, at the 2009 PODi AppForum in Las Vegas. In it, he challenges print manufacturers and distributors to understand new and emerging channels and to pay attention to where marketing priorities and investment dollars are going.
Customers with complaints have vastly greater options for making their case today. Social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube and Twitter, combined with community organization services like Change.org, make it possible for one customer with a problem to start a campaign that leads to change across an entire industry. The incidence of these attacks is growing, and large companies a learning to respect and fear the growing power of activist customers.
This presentation, which was prepared for SugarCRM's SugarCon 2012 conference in San Francisco, previews a forthcoming book by the same name by Paul Gillin and Greg Gianforte.

Second screen strategy: Digital, social & mobile best practices for conferenc...Jack Morton Worldwide
Today, 90% of media consumption is screen based. In 2014, the number of mobile devices in the world will exceed the global population. By 2018, there will be 1.4 connected mobile devices per person. That means that, as people move through the world, they will increasingly move with at least one other screen in hand (and even more devices on hand).
While the Second Screen revolution may have started with distracted television viewers, today, the multi-screen world demands marketers who know how to plan for it. This presentation breaks down second screen strategy into actionable advice specifically for event marketers. Yet the trends in consumer behavior apply to all brands that seek to connect with the people who matter most to them in an increasingly screen-based world.

Using Social Media In Cross Media Direct Influence MarketingJeffrey Stewart
Social media is becoming the way that people communicate with their friends, family and the world in general. Marketers are finding that all these social networks provide new and exciting ways to communicate with customer communities and target like-minded prospects. In this session, Stewart explores how social media channels are providing new opportunities to directly influence customer behavior. He will explain how social media can be harnessed and integrated into 'traditional' cross-media campaigns. Attendees will leave this workshop with a much better understanding of where the future of direct marketing is headed and how the rules are changing.
Social Media + Community Planning is a presentation originally given to the Midwest Section of the American Planning Association meeting on June 11, 2010
As social media tools reach greater levels of ubiquity, technology and conversations are meshing in new and interesting ways.
Planning professionals can leverage the tools of the social web to better engage communities in meaningful conversations, strategically listen, and help make informed decisions for programs and procedures.
From social networking, photo and video sharing, blogging, and more, planners have new tools to understand.

The Evolution of Marketing and CommunicationTara Mahady
Social media didn't just happen. We've evolved into a culture that demands immediate, transparent, and authentic communication. We desire this not only with each other, but with the companies and brands with which we affiliate. Understanding how we arrived at this place, and how marketing and communication has evolved helps us understand the context as we move forward.
In less than 20 years the Internet has evolved from an academic exercise of interconnected computers, to communication systems that redefine corporate communication. From a few thousand static web pages, to always-on on-demand multimedia news and entertainment channels. From providing simple discussion forums and chat rooms to a hugely popular web of experiences for real-time social interaction. So what comes next? Social media will infiltrate and enhance all of our personal and commercial, private and public endeavors faster than you think.

Responsive Marketing in a Real Time World David Armano
It used to be easy. Plan, test and launch marketing campaigns over an ample amount of time. But marketers need to think more like developers who deal in rapidly changing and fast moving environments where technology constantly evolves. Today, brands are both built and preserved in real time and content is the currency of the Web. The modern day imperative for organizations is evolving their marketing machines to operate both at scale and with agility.
Edelman's Social Intelligence Command Center or "SICC" is the industry's most unique command center approach offered by a professional services firm. The room, process, staffing and model is designed to not only monitor and engage based on social intelligence, but to function as a "social newsroom" creating content in real time.
Effective communication is everyone’s job—whether you are trying to sell in a concept or convince a client. Visual Thinking can help us take in complex information and synthesize it into something meaningful. In an increasingly fragmented and cluttered world, simple imagery, metaphors and mindmaps can get people to understand the abstract and make your ideas tangible. Find out why why thinking visually may be one of the most sought after abilities of the 21st century.
"The hallmark of any great brand is authenticity -- just ask Harley-Davidson, Coke or Apple, especially when all of these brands lost their way and learned from it. Same thing applies to Brand You. In every tweak of a template, upload and keystroke, you have an opportunity to be authentic or disingenuous. Know what makes you special and unique, and tap into those qualities as you build your personal brand online. Most people can spot a fake when they see one, so remember that being genuine is more important that presenting yourself in an artificially glossy manner. It used to be important for bloggers to "find their voice" -- now it's relevant to all of us."
Micro-Interactions in a 2.0 World (v2)David Armano
“We live in a world where the little things really do matter. Each encounter no matter how brief is a micro interaction which makes a deposit or withdrawal from our rational and emotional subconscious. The sum of these interactions and encounters adds up to how we feel about a particular product, brand or service. Little things. Feelings. They influence our everyday behaviors more than we realize.”
The Fuzzy Tail is a play on Chris Anderson's Long Tail—but that's where the similarities end. Being "fuzzy" means unlearning the way we've always done things and moving away from rigidity toward adaptability. The first draft of this presentation will be presented to employees of Critical Mass, a digital experience consultancy based out of Calgary, Canada.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.

Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
