A team is defined as two or more individuals who interact and are interdependent while working together to achieve a common objective. Teams progress through various stages of development including forming, storming, norming, performing, and adjourning. A work team is a group whose combined performance and results are greater than the sum of individual efforts due to synergy, shared goals, cooperation, flexibility, and serving a single customer or boss. For a team to be successful, it must clarify goals, identify inhibitors, and address issues to enable goal achievement. Potential problems for team building include personal agendas, lack of role clarity, social loafing, groupthink, and dysfunctional group dynamics.
